A lot depends on the style you're looking for. I'll also say that security in a bag is a myth. There are things to discourage certain behavior, but ultimately a bag should never be seen as a secure container. (after all it can always be cut)

What I chose.

I traveled for about a month in Europe staying in hostels. Even though it was only a month I could have traveled for about a year (adding only a tablet) with the bag/things I brought.

Osprey Farpoint 40 Travel Backpack - $150 (Discontinued)

[Osprey Farpoint 40 Travel Backpack

  • $160 (New Version)](https://smile.amazon.com/Osprey-Farpoint-40-Travel-Backpack/dp/B014EBM3KA/)

I love this bag but it might not be the single best option for you. It's low profile, turns into a duffle bag (more about that later) and although it doesn't look like a school backpack, it doesn't standout like this either.

The reason I love that it turns into a duffle bag is because theres a semi hidden velcro pocket in the bottom where the cover rolls into. This is a great place to sew or velcro a small zippered wallet or bag to store extra money or valuables. It's not secure as much as its hidden. This won't help you if they steal the whole bag, but it will help you if they just ransack the place and steal from the open compartments.

    Other Options

There are a ton of other options. I suggest watching the VagaBrothers Video - How to Choose the BEST Travel BACKPACK | Pros & Cons Minimalist Backpack Review and Travel Tips: Packing Hacks, Tips & Essentials

The F Stop bags look great, but are pretty pricy. Depending on what lenses you're bringing (18-55mm kit lens VS 70-200mm VR f2.8) it may or may not be worth it for size and configurability. I personally bought a Sony a6000 and left my big DSLR at home. That was actually a really good choice for the type of trip I did, but if I was going for a year (like you are) I understand needing the big camera. You might want to get camera/lens inserts like this (but not necessarily that one, I just clicked on the first one I saw on amazon) to store and protect those other lenses.

    Hope that helps.

The following is copy and pasted from an email I sent to family friends traveling abroad. It gives links and ideas for things that help when traveling minimally.

    ----------

  • 2 Mini cologne bottles - Well worth it if you are doing carry on only, or if you like to bring more than one scent with you. Depending on how much you use I find that a bottle filled up lasts about 1.5-2 weeks if you are using 2-3 sprays a day. http://smile.amazon.com/MagnaKoys%C2%AE-Perfume-Cologne-Sprayers-Overcaps/dp/B00UKHLBEW

  • World power adapter - http://smile.amazon.com/elago%C2%AE-Tripshell-TRAVEL-ADAPTER-Built/dp/B005AF0C2G Awesome adapter. A lot nicer than the 50 mini adapters you have to piece together like legos.

  • Power strip - https://smile.amazon.com/Monster-MP-OTG400-BK-Outlets/dp/B000F9YN2M I never used this. I wouldn't get it unless you knew you needed it. They are good ways to make friends at airports though, as plugs are always in high demand and few people will say no to letting you free up a plug or two.

  • Battery pack - (updated version) https://smile.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-20100-Capacity-Technology/dp/B00X5RV14Y/ OR https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00Z9QVE4Q While there are cheaper and smaller ones, this is the perfect size and capacity if you are bringing a couple or more devices. This will charge a phone many times over. It's especially handy if you want to leave it charging in the hotel then bring it with you during the day after it's charged.

  • Compressed charcoal deodorizers - http://smile.amazon.com/Moso-Natural-Purifying-Deodorizer-Eliminator/dp/B0099K6OVQ Great to throw in shoes or bags that start to get smelly. Useful in hostels.

  • Microfiber towel - http://smile.amazon.com/Sunland-Microfiber-Compact-Sports-Towels/dp/B00MGGYZVG Very useful for hostels as most will charge you to use towels

  • Tripod - http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00D76RNLS/ paired with a phone mount (https://smile.amazon.com/AUKEY-Samsung-Smartphones-Adapter-Monopod/dp/B01LYN73TQ) this can be used to hold the phone on long flights. Really nice for watching movies on the plane or waiting for a train.

  • Roll up 1L water bottles - http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00BI9AM3C/ Great for airplanes (no longer need to buy water after TSA).

  • I packed all of my clothes into cubes and a flat packer. http://smile.amazon.com/Eagle-Creek-Pack-It-Starter-Set/dp/B00F9S84D8

    Security:

Since I was traveling alone, and in hostels, security was a slightly bigger deal for me. I carried my passport on my person or locked in my hostel (many had lockers or metal lock boxes).

At all times I had a photo copy of my passport and everything in my wallet, some local currency, and a print out of all the embassies in the area. (Attached to this email.) I printed this double sided and had multiple copies with me.
I told my mom, "At any time I want to be able to have everything stolen, but still have a way back home.” My credit card will do cash transfers internationally and also includes a continuous travel insurance package.

I would highly suggest making three copies of your passport and all credit cards and other ID you are taking. One lives on your person when your passport is stored elsewhere (hotel, for example), one lives in your luggage (preferably hidden/tucked away), and one stays with a trusted friend or family member that will be in the States for the duration of your trip. If anything happens they will be able to assist with proving your identity to the State Department, thus speeding the process along. I suggest keeping some cash tucked in your passport (along with that embassy list), your copy of the passport in the luggage, and then the copy of the passport and embassy list in your wallet. At this point you have three possibilities of things to grab to prove your identity/pay for a cab/tell you where to go.

While this may seem a little overboard, I find it doesn't take that long to set up and helps greatly should anything bad happen. Also consider registering with the State Department. This helps them track Americans abroad should anything happen, and also gives you alerts, should anything happen. https://step.state.gov/step/

    Tech Tips

I also used a service called Line2 to give me a US phone number to call from and receive calls to while I was away. I have T-Mobile that gives me included unlimited international data. As long as I had a 4g signal, I also had a phone I could make and receive calls on. Google Voice and Skype would also do this. Do be aware of how much international data costs. Wifi is easy to find, but I suggest using a VPN on your phone or laptop for any web surfing. And even with the VPN I would not suggest logging into any financial (bank, etc) while abroad unless you are on a trusted wifi network (aka, friends).

For maps you can download parts of Google Maps by searching the city and clicking “Download." This should work on Android and iOS versions of Google Maps.

You can get a Pelican 1600 for half the price which is about the same size, equally durable, but doesn't come with the fancy innards, just foam you can shape yourself.

I have the Kata 467i

I just want a nice little zipper clamshell case. the kind you see for gopros and other little things like that. i think that would be perfecct for the switch.

maybe with a few compartments so you can take off the joycons and all that. Like this:

I connected my T3i camera body to a T-ring adapter. That connects to an orion universal 1.25" adapter. That goes into the 2x Barlow lens, which goes into the telescope.

They should be getting her a t3i. Or a t2i.

The difference between SDXC and SDHC cards, from what I know, is mainly how much data storage they support. SDHC, or Secure Digital Extended Capacity, can support up to 2 TB, 2.0 limits this to about 32 GB. The new 4.0 format will fix this.

SDHC, or Secure Digital High Capacity, are rated up to 32 GB, run on 2.0, and are known for their compatibility.

Is one BETTER than the other? I don't think I am qualified to say that, but I think SDHC will be a better bet for now. I am not even sure if the t3/t2i/t3i support 32 GB. But you don't have to take my word for it.

If you can afford it, buy this lens for her. Tell her to use that with her kit lens for awhile until she gets the hang of her camera.

I would also look at Kata Bags

If you be stackin' benjamins like a real pimp yo (sorry I'm really white) then get her Lightroom 3

Also.

DSLR. I just say SLR, but some people have sticks in their buttholes about terminology. (I mean shit, I corrected you, right?)

This is what I use, Manfrotto MB BP-D1 DJI Professional Video Equipment Cases Drone Backpack (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017AED18Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_mqb1xbHDRMPV6

It's pricey but definitely worth it. Great craftsmanship and I can leave my props on while I go to my shooting locations. Highly recommended. 👍

So, I just got a Canon 650D and I'm using a Celestron T-Adapter on my Celestron Nexstar Evolution 8 as my setup shows in this picture. However, I've noticed that my smartphone, yes, my SMARTPHONE is producing better quality photos.

Here is a picture of a photo through my Samsung Galaxy S9+ looking down through my 40mm Plossl lens and here is the latest Photo of the moon through my current setup with the Canon 650D.. Now, ignoring that less of the moon can be seen, the actual focus of the moon looks comparable, if not slightly less focused than my smartphone. All I want to do here is capture that amazing view that I get when looking at the moon with my 40mm Plossl with my eyeball. That's it.

I was expecting a dedicated DSLR to absolutely smash the camera of a smartphone. What gives? What is the best way to do this? Should I use a camera adapter for my 40mm lens like this one shown here? I kinda' need it to improve the FOV, but will increasing tube distance make this worse? I'm so, so confused here.

u/NotTimHeidecker · 3 pointsr/astrophotography

I went ahead and looked up the adapters you would need to hook up to an Orion telescope, the t-ring and the camera adapter. However, this looks like it can total to over $60 for adapters. Apparently the Orion T-ring and a Celestron camera adapter are most frequently bought together. I'm not sure of how the two different brands will work together.

u/Uli_The_Nihilist · 3 pointsr/photography

Depending on how much room you need, I just bought an Amazon Essentials sling bag for $29.99. Not big enough for my long wildlife lens, but a great take-anywhere bag with a DSLR and a couple moderate to small lenses.

EDIT: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FRDSAYW/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B01FRDSAYW&pd_rd_wg=8kvB2&pd_rd_r=6RAZJBW49Q7D1B0B4DXK&pd_rd_w=juNS7

Not an affiliate link. The only problem I find with this bag is it won't hold all my gear, but that's not what it's for.

u/kuhcd · 3 pointsr/dji

I just snagged this a few weeks ago, taking it to Mexico next week: https://www.amazon.com/Lowepro-ViewPoint-BP250-Multi-Purpose-Backpack/dp/B014CKVZWU/ref=sr_1_3

It is pretty fuckin awesome. Mavic fits great in the smaller bag, with two batteries and controller in there. Can also take my laptop and kindle, and random other work stuff. I now have my Mavic with me at all times!

+1 for padded backpack instead of dedicated cases for radio, goggles, etc. Dedicated small cases end up taking too many hands, of which I only have 2.

I use a Case Logic KSB-102. Designed for cameras and drones. The top compartment is a perfect fit for my Taranis. The orange interior makes it easy to find things.

It's a bit on the pricey side but it feels very secure. I am able to store my P3A, all my phantom accessories, with a DSLR with a medium size lens attached (24-105mm), and a spare lens comfortably.

I kept my dslr in my backpack (camera friendly) with no issue. Other days I would keep it in a small dslr shoulder bag. I had no issues with either and we took it on a variety of rides.

u/thinkscotty · 2 pointsr/photography

You rocking DSLRs? You'll probably want something bigger in that case. I'm always surprised by how much space my D750, a couple lenses, and a speed light take up!

I'm an Amazon top 1000 reviewer I tested this bag as part of their reviewer programs. I liked it pretty well, especially for the price. It seemed pretty rugged and padded. At $50 it's obviously not a premium product and it looks a little weird in my opinion, but it will get the job done!

u/michaelkrieger · 2 pointsr/k12sysadmin

If it’s not too taboo, there are plenty of cases with foam squares that they remove such as camera/firearm/tool cases (just find something that doesn’t look like a firearm case )

Things like this:

Condition 1 22" LG #300 Black Airtight/Watertight Rolling Travel Hard Case with DIY Customizable Foam https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B06XGC9GGH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_bs9iDbXGW3ZNW

AmazonBasics Hard Camera Case - Large https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01L0LVLLY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Pt9iDbK2SHERB (which has removable foam squares to make the areas)

Then take out squares/columns of foam for each device. You might have to experiment with this one to find your ideal dimensions that fit what you need snugly.

If your purchase is large enough call up Samsonite or a local or similar luggage/case company and ask them for a case that meets your overall dimensions with appropriate foam slots.

Haven't traveled with it yet but seems like it'll work well. Theres a picture in one of the reviews how someone laid it out. I basically followed his plan.

u/travellingmonk · 2 pointsr/CampingGear

I carry my kit near the top of my pack, padded only by my puffy or fleece; mostly in the front since that's the way the pack will tip... since the body and lens weigh close to 8lbs, it's very tippy.

If you're worried the fleece/puffy aren't enough, you can get a padded insert like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Ape-Case-Cubeze-Interior-Cameras/dp/B009GA6CS4

If I expect to be doing some water crossings I'll have my kit in a big dry bag. Other than , I don't worry too much about the camera getting damaged in my pack.

I don't like using my phone, since I use my phone for work and it's a real PITA if it gets lost or damaged. And since I like to photograph wildlife, I need the big zoom.

Good luck.

u/ryanj91 · 2 pointsr/photography

Yeah wasn't willing to spend $300+ for a camera bag when I have so many backpacks already so I used one of these . It's a generic one but it does the job and way cheaper

Are you close to an Ikea? Their little Expedit unit will hold 200 - 250 records. And you can put your turntable on top of it :)

If you were searching for something more like a box, that you can transport, how about a couple of flight cases. They come in handy when you have to move.

u/hydraulx · 2 pointsr/EDC

I usually either use a Pelican 1650 or 1500 case with foam inserts and a TSA lock depending on how much gear I'm bringing.

u/calipilot227 · 2 pointsr/vinyl

A Eurolite LP case would be a good option. Just make sure that you lock it with a TSA-approved lock (so the retards at Airport Security don't cut it off), and you should be good to go.

u/mkalvas · 2 pointsr/photography

I like this one (though I can't remember which size it is off hand). It fits in this small backpack I have. For reference, I have an a6000 and it can fit the body, the 4 lenses I own (one of which is a pancake), and a whole bunch of small junk like batteries, sd cards, release cable, microfiber cloth, rocket blower, cpl, nd, step up rings, etc.

All that said, I use it mainly for transporting things. It's not super quick to get things in and out of because I usually put things on top of it in my bag, but I usually just pick a lens for a situation and don't change it. It's quick enough for me but I'm not a pro who needs to be quick on the draw or anything. Just an ordinary dude who likes taking pictures.

u/sa7abi · 2 pointsr/photography

Hello folx,

I bought a couple of new lenses, and my old camera bag is now suddenly too small to accommodate everything. So I've been looking around and trying out some camera bags option. Many of the purpose-built camera bags are very boxy and rigid, and also expensive. While doing research, I read some people said to use a camera bag insert in a regular bag. So I tried this, and it works really, really well. I thought I'd share what bag/insert combo I used in the end -- I'm able to fit 2 camera bodies and 4 lenses with this setup. Can probably also fit 1 camera body and 4-6 lenses depending on size. About $100 all in, and the best part is I can also re-use the insert in my backpack, and flat-pack the messenger bag during travel. I used a small sized timbuk2 classic messenger bag. The insert also fits in the "extra small" sized timbuk2 classic messenger bag, for those wondering.

I use two Pelican 1510 with padded dividers for my A-CAM kit and my B-CAM kit. The size is a great balance of 'not too big' and 'not too small.' It can be used as carry-on.

I then use these lid organizers paired with the case for media, batteries, mounts, tools, etc.

I have it set up so if I hire a second camera operator, I can just give him my B-Cam case and he has everything he needs. Or, I put my slider/mobile tripod in the secondary case when I solo shoot and want the extra equipment.

I then have a two Pelican 1600 cases which I use to store additional lights, reflectors, and my gimbal. It works well, but I do regret not getting the 1650. The wheels alone makes it worth it, along with the size.

I do also have the monoprice equivalent of the 1510 with foam which I use for my lenses. I regret buying it to be honest, it works well but for a few more dollars I just prefer Pelican (it has a much better design in the handle extension, which is my only reason. It works well otherwise).

u/jimbolla · 2 pointsr/photography

Besides the camera and main lens, how much additional gear are you planning to carry?

I went with this Case Logic Kilowatt KSB-102 for $127 because it can be used as either sling or backpack. It's got quite a bit of room for extra lenses, flashes, laptop, etc. I also like the orange interior because it makes it easier to see all the black components, especially when rummaging around in low light. More pictures here where you can see all the compartments. There's also another vendor on the Amazon listing that has it for $97 + $8 shipping.

u/SCheeseman · 2 pointsr/OculusQuest
u/Chahk · 2 pointsr/drones

It was quite easy.

I did some prior research into drone laws in Jamaica, and they are allowed with your basic common sense rules. I had the drone in a backpack along with batteries (in LiPo safety bags.) It went through the X-Ray machine without any issues, with no questions asked by the agents.

In Jamaica itself I had no issues flying. Keep in mind that some resorts don't allow flying from their property, but most public areas are fine.

The trip back was uneventful as well - not even a raised eyebrow from airport security as the drone went through their scanner.

MONSOON PROTECTION QUESTION

I've got a Fuji X100T, and I'm looking at an upcoming trip that looks like days and days of solid, heavy rain. This is good, because it makes for more dramatic and interesting shots, particularly at night. This is bad because I don't want to brick my poor camera.

I'm looking at two different options, and wanted to get some input:

  • The CamDive Underwater Housing - It's intended for the S but apparently fits the T perfectly fine. Some of the buttons aren't accessible, but in the spirit of full disclosure, I usually shoot in Auto mode as it is. Might be overkill.

  • The DiCAPac High End Mirrorless Underwater Case - Ratings aren't that high, may have quality control issues.

  • Use an umbrella...

Any other product suggestions you may have are also greatly appreciated.

u/tanstaafl90 · 1 pointr/AskPhotography

How much equipment are we talking, and what kind of use would you need? Is it going to on a hiking trip, or just walking around? I have one of these, it's a nice bag for walk around and limited equipment. I have this for hikes, and it does me well. This is something I'm looking at for both flying and general travel. Though I think in long term I may end up with several.

u/BWeidlichPhoto · 1 pointr/AskPhotography

I've loved my lowpro flipside 200. It won't hold a 1D body but it holds a gripped rebel body with lens attached + 2/3 additional lenses/flash. Also has a pouch that's perfect for storing cleaning kits, batteries, or memory cards. You could probably throw that in a frame pack but it will take up some space.

A full sized bag like my Dakine has a removable insert that can be carried separate over the shoulder or strapped to the outside of a larger pack. It holds a lot more gear than the little flipside can.

Wanted to add that having a rain cover is always nice the flipside 200 does not it's big brother the 300 might but I know other lowpros do. Kata's also got some cool bags. I'm partial to backpacks since you can strap them on and be active without having to adjust them. They also spread the weight out over more of your body than a shoulder/messenger bag can but since you want to put this bag in a bag a more rectangular shaped bag might serve you better.

I recommend this, has a waterproof bottom, and has a hammock system to hold your camera. Only I would be worried is the size of your lens camera combo fitting it. I fit a 20d gripped with 18-55 plus 50f1.8 in that case. So I think it might fit your kit also.

I just bought a tripod and my thinking was that the frequency I would use the tripod would be directly proportional to how easy it was to carry. Initially I didn't think that I could afford carbon but I found this:
http://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-732CY-Carbon-Tripod-Black/dp/B002WTB81C/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1318800133&sr=1-5

with this:
http://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-494RC2-Release-Replaces-484RC2/dp/B002WN211Y/ref=pd_sim_p1

to best combination of cheap, light, and quality. This past weekend I biked around town with the tripod strapped into the tripod clip of my camera bag:
http://www.amazon.com/Case-Logic-DCB-308-Camera-Sling/dp/B004JMZPJQ/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1318800246&sr=1-3

I doubt a tripod even 1 lb heavier would have been manageable. A heavy duty tripod is fine if you drive everywhere or do indoor shots but if you want to have your tripod with you often, go light...

I recently bought this bag for my DSLR with my upcoming trip in mind.

There's a side access (since it's a sling bag) for the actual DSLR that's generous for even two cameras so lots of space for extra lenses and whatnot. There's also a top compartment that's ideal I think for sunscreen, a wallet, even an extra pair of pants for my daughter (who is 3 and barely potty trained). So I think it's going to work well for me this next trip.

Taking pictures and making small videos is a hobby of mine, I don't have any expensive equipment. But in my car I've always got my manfrodo backpack which fits my phantom 3 advanced, 3 batteries, controller, canon t5i with an 18-35mm wide angle on it, then the kit lens and a 55-250mm telephoto. Its got everything else too. chargers, iPad and laptop, a small and regular sized manfrodo tripod, and one of those gorilla pods. As well as memory cards and adapters and things like that. I also use a clip on my belt sometimes, since camera straps annoy the shit out of me.

Heres the backpack:

Been picking up the hobby with my dad's old SLR and a 28mm, 50mm and 135mm lens. Looking forward to traveling for the first time and I need to upgrade my dad's old camera bag, which is a chunky leather cub with a shoulder strap, not very ergonomic at all and no padding inside. The $30 AmazonBasics one-strap sling seems the way to go since it should hold 2-3 lenses and the camera and has a rain cover; any other recs? Poking around everything in the price range is pretty similar. This one is the same thing with a couple more pockets.

I have one of these Kata DR-467i bags. It has served me very well for over a year until last week when I purchased a 70-200 lens and now I don't have enough room in there anymore. I can squeeze the beast lens in the top compartment however I have to take out my laptop power chord, mouse, camera battery charger, headphones etc. Everything fit fine with wiggle room too until I expanded my lens collection.

The bag served my needs very, very well, really sturdy design, I have carried it about daily and recommend it if your gear will fit in there.

u/m4xdc · 1 pointr/videography

I mean, if all you have is the body and 35 prime, then you don’t really need an entire backpack dedicated to it. Search amazon for “camera backpack insert”. Things like this will suit your needs just fine.

Having a hard time tracking down a real world review for this particular case: https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-Hard-Camera-Case-Large/dp/B01L0LVLLY/

Just wondering if anyone has it and if they can supply some pics/ info.

The dimensions would suggest I'd fit both a 300mm f/2.8 and a 70-200 f/2.8 alongside two pro bodies. Too good to be true?

If it's going in a carry-on bag, I would use a camera divider bag like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017H01JVE/
Maybe not that exact one, I didn't compare all the dimensions.

If you want to protect it super well, and take it on as your smaller, under-seat, 'personal item', choose an appropriate Pelican case: https://www.pelicancasesforless.com/t-pelican-case-sizes.aspx

Hi guys, I am not sure whether this is a good place to post this, so please feel free to delete if it violates the rules.

I am looking to upgrade from a Canon T3 to a smaller, potentially mirrorless, camera. I would like to sell my T3 + gear and use that cash toward the new camera.

It depends. I have two main ones I use, this one and this one.

The 1510 easily holds 4 or 5 bottles, the 1650 is about double. It's hard for me to say exactly because I'm usually hauling beer as well. I've never had a bottle break on me but I do put each individual bottle in a sealed gallon ziplock. The pull a part foam that comes with the case works ok to pack them with, but I usually end up adding some bubble wrap.

One other thing if you go the pelican route - don't just buy it straight from Amazon. They go on sale a fair amount, check Camel Camel Camel and setup an alert. I got my 1510 for $80 and the 1650 for about 30% off if I remember correctly.

I much prefer carrying my camera (usually a 5D or 7D) in a messenger bag. Timbuk2 makes a really nice insert that is practical in a variety of bags.

Having a messenger bag/insert setup let's me take as little or as much as I need. And if I'm off the bike, now I have something to carry the camera in.

u/BassNotBombs · 1 pointr/oculus

Rift, Touch, and three sensors should all fit nicely in this case. Pelican is expensive, but it's quality. Not sure if this is the kind of money you are willing to spend, but it's probably worth the investment to keep the $800+ amount of hardware your transporting safe.

Thank you and congrats on the Telescope! You're going to love it.

My wife picked up a T-Ring that connects the camera to the telescope. It's not using any telescope eyepiece, just the telescope itself, but I'm curious to know if that's possible... I'd really like to get shots closer to the moon. Looks like you can grab an adapter to fit your 1.25" eyepieces. If you have a larger eyepiece (which I grabbed a couple that have pretty big bodies) you can buy an adapter that fits a much larger body.

Depending on the telescope you may need a T-Adapter.

From there I experimented with camera settings and took a bunch of shots.

u/sampsans-ape-spray · 1 pointr/vinyl

for that number of records, pick up one or two of these: https://www.amazon.com/Eurolite-LP-70-LP-Case-Black/dp/B003UEZKIK

u/evwark · 1 pointr/Astronomy

Most Orion telescopes have T-threading directly on the ends of their drawtubes. I'm not too familiar with Barska telescopes, but from the look of things you've got an 1.25" eyepiece holder (typically connected to your prism/diagonal), and that's about it.

So what you'll want to get is a 1.25" t-threaded nosepiece. I found one for about $20 here.

But I'd recommend getting this instead. It's a little bit more money, but it includes the nosepiece you'll need and allows an eyepiece into your imaging train for projection photography. Even without the eyepiece, I'm almost certain you'll need the extension-tube included here to come into focus.

Good luck!

I came across the same problem when I got my nice DSLR and realized that camera bags are either too ugly or waaaay out of my budget. My solution was to get something similar to this and use an old bag that i have. That way, I'm still carrying around one of my own bags and my camera is nice and safe :)

The only time I really use a bag insert is when I need a more professional^read:dressy look than hauling around a backpack and need minimal gear. For those occasions I will put an insert into a nice purse.

I just bought a run of the mill insert on Amazon, nothing fancy.

I apologize for being too lazy to learn how to hyperlink but this $20 camera case works wonders for me (as well as others on this sub). You should be careful with your Quest, stuffing it in a backpack may cause unnecessary damage but if you have a lens protector or keep the cardboard one it comes with, you should be fine as long as you are careful. u/3agl · 1 pointr/DSLR

I got the T3i for under 600$, new, with a few semi-useful accessories. Amazon has a few deals that allow for some acc. equip. that can be useful, but is really just another selling point. These deals are usually from vendors like Photo4Less (who I got mine from, great shipping, got it within 4 days), but Canon has a good price too. This is a good DSLR, compared to many other video cameras you may have (eg- gopro, other small video-only cameras).

Image Quality

The quality of the video and photos I was able to get after a few days was fantastic. Here are some pics I took with the T3i on day 2. DAY 2!!!!!( I was still recovering from Wisdom teeth surgery. This thing shoots in about 4K+ still images, so you won't be wanting for pixels, only for less noise. Keep your ISO down to 100 or so, and you'll usually be fine. Some of my pics have lots of noise, that's because I was still learning about what makes exposure work for the first few weeks.

Video

This playlist shows the versatility of this camera, from low-light (car light) situations to good lighting (slender video) to having a friend who doesn't shoot DSLR control it (ALS video) [I should also mention that there was a bit of post-production stabilization, but that Image stabilizer is really powerful all the same], and the flip out screen speaks for itself.

Screen, Youtube use, and other camera choices

The flip-out screen is immensely single-user friendly, and allows for a great range of artistic control and frame control, when used as a facecam.

Keep in mind that it doesn't really shoot long videos too well, it stops at about 11 minutes on 1080p, but I doubt that it really should be used for that. If you need a camera to sit in one place for a long time, invest in a gopro or just use your notebook's webcam.

If you are looking to shoot something artistic, this 11 minute video limit won't be a problem, your shots shouldn't be that long.

Audio

The audio is good. Audition picked up a few persistent high-range whines, but it's not too noticeable, provided you fade it out well or don't use it's audio interchanged between a dedicated microphone (say, a blue snowball). If you've got the budget, get a RODE mic or a decent lavalier mic.

WARNINGS

Learn about ISO, Exposure, Aperture, etc. Knowing is half the battle

No build quality issues as of yet, but keep it out of the rain just in case. Not waterproof, so I hear

BUY 2 MORE BATTERIES AND A CHARGER if you plan on doing video shoots. I have a total of 3 batteries, and 2 chargers, for only 20$ above the normal cost (third party, can't think of brand) of the camera.

Buy a nice case. Here is the one I got, and it's smexy as hell.

a 64GB Memory card can't hurt, and I've got one left over from Gopro usage (microSD+adaptor will work)

I hope this review was helpful. If you want to see more informed or otherwise content (and eventually a review of the t3i then please check out my youtube channel if you wish. I post a bunch of stuff, and have about 7000 views. Leave some feedback, i'm still finding my niche.

The biggest criticism I've heard from a friend who owns the Peak Design Everyday is that the shoulder strap is narrow, and quite slippy (that is, slips off the shoulder easily if you don't wrap it over your head on the opposite shoulder). The Tenba bags have a strap cover that has silicone dots on it for excellent grippiness. Hope that helps!

I just purchased a Tenba Cooper 15, after a TON of research. My needs are to carry at least:

  • Canon 6D
  • 70-200mm f2.8/L USM
  • 24-105mm f4/L IS USM
  • 50mm
  • Adorama Flashpoint flash unit (size of a Speedlite)
  • Macbook Pro 15" laptop
  • Macbook Pro power supply
  • iPad mini 4
  • Spare SSD drive
  • Battery chargers for 6D and Flashpoint
  • Chargers for iPhone & iPad
  • Monoprice battery pack
  • BlackRapid Sport strap
  • USB cables for iPhone, micro USB
  • 77mm filters
  • Spare gels for Flashpoint
  • Pens, business cards

I've owned the Tenba large messenger, but it almost but not quite large enough to haul all of that. Looks like the Cooper 15 will manage it all. I'll post back once it's in my hands. Just curious, what did you finally settle on, /u/mrwiggly_wiggly ?

Case Logic SLRC-201 is a great holster for SLR w/zoom that both the wife and I use for carrying cameras with walk around zoom lenses for travel protection. I have several of the SLRC holsters, bags and back packs that we use for all different travel situations. We have the 201, 202, 203, 205 and 206 versions. Only the 206 is currently without a camera in it, but I carried it for two weeks on the Big Island of Hawaii and it was great. The 203 has a 1000D and 4 lenses, batteries and chargers in it in the truck at all times. We each have a 201 for a 60D and 7D either sporting a canon 18-200 or a tamron 28-300 and a filter stack dropped in the bottom of the pouch. These are great small cases.

u/_olopops_ · 1 pointr/hiking

Depends on your gear. When taking my DSLR I will just take a minimal case (like this), and throw it in my pack. I'll use a sling strap if I want to have my DSLR at the ready while hiking.

It may be time to review your gear selection. Do you NEED an additional lens? Are you trying to go longer? wider? faster? DO you NEED your dslr?

I take my Canon EOS-M (mirrorless) APS-C sensor camera when I go hiking. My EOS-M kit - with a table top tripod, two lenses, carrying case, extra batteries, wireless shutter release - weighed half of what my DSLR/lens weighed.

u/yaranaika_megaman2 · 1 pointr/PanasonicG7

It has generally good reviews which apparently aren't fake but the few bad reviews say it leaked and destroyed the camera or the camera did not fit or using the camera was very difficult. I wouldn't buy it. I bought an action camera with an underwater casing for that kind of thing.

Also, please don't make duplicate posts.

u/Latentius · 1 pointr/Cameras

I've been using this one from Case Logic. Easy access to stuff from all sides, and I love the big, deep pocket up top. On many occasions now, I've loaded up with ~20 lbs of gear and hiked around all day without issue.

u/mikeysweet · 0 pointsr/AskPhotography

Here's the bag I use. I spent 2 hours in B&H testing bags out, seeing what can fit my gear and have room for other stuff and you're right. It's usually all camera gear or nothing. With this bag the bottom half is customizable dividers with a side zipper easy access to your camera. The front lower flap has two shallow velcro pockets perfect for cables and adapters. The top section is just an open container for whatever you want. The top flap has a zipper mesh pocket. The material is stong nylon. I reinforced the shoulder straps by sewing nylon straps from the shoulder harness to the bag since I have a tendency to rip every bag at those spots no matter how expensive it may be. It also has a waist strap to help when hiking. The bag also comes with a rain cover to protect whatever is inside. All for $50 it's worth just buying, testing out, and if it's not for this trip, keep it for other excursions. Have a fun trip!

The handy side pocket for quick camera access is pretty neat since you don't have to take the bag completely off. It also has configurable straps and can be worn like a bag pack or messenger bag.

My DSLR is always with me when I travel. I may not take millions of photos with it but I always have it on me when I come across a good shot. I use this camera bag. I love it since it has a hard body and actually suspends the camera with a lens already attached. That way I can quickly whip it out and start shooting. It also has pockets on either side for different lenses. I've always been interested in using mirrorless cameras but I think I'll stick with my current one since I've invested so much in the gear.

I should have been more specific on the travel side. Just this past weekend I went on a little trip out of town. In my 5.11 backpack I packed all my clothes, toiletries bag, phone chargers, etc. No room for my camera case, no room for drinks, no room for my other electronics. So whenever I go on a weekend trip I bring my backpack along with another bag. Doesn't bother me too much since I can put everything away in my car. But later this year I'm going to be flying around the country and I would like to have everything in just one bag that's easy to carry.
