A lot of answers saying “this is why we don’t use metal cubes”. Basically none saying “they exist and people do use them”:

https://www.amazon.com/Franmara-Stainless-Steel-Cubes-Deluxe/dp/B0083RBXOY

Yes they don’t stay as cold as long as other commenters have noted but also as OP says, they’re re-usable. It’s an option and people use them. 🤷🏻‍♂️

u/JamesAGreen · 34 pointsr/BuyItForLife

They make them out of metal. My grandmother had one like this forever...

rubber trays would be the better alternative

Not sure why you got downvoted, but this is important to know. As mentioned, slowing them down is important; what works great is putting this in the bowl and then food into it: https://www.amazon.com/Elbee-Coolest-15-Cube-Silicone-Tray/dp/B00KC3R5H6/ref=sr_1_4?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1498771586&sr=1-4&keywords=silicone+ice+tray

Y-er here. Try a Whiskey Ball instead. Works like a charm if you like your whiskey chilled without weakening it as fast as ice cubes do.

This already exists. It works pretty well.

They do! They also have the figurine molds as well if you scroll down and look under "Customers also bought....".

Or you could just buy one of these for a fraction of the cost.

I was into ice cube trays before they were cool. Got a 1978 aluminum tray with lever operated rotating ejectors.

I like ice sheets. They will keep it cold and won't turn into a watery mess. Link below.

The cube in that glass was made using this basic Tovolo King Cube mold, so it was not very clear. However, I only used that cube because the clear ones I make using this Tovolo King Cube Clear Ice System were just a smidge too big to fit in the glass.

u/_angman · 3 pointsr/seriouseats
u/BunnyPlease · 3 pointsr/Rabbits

Thanks! I've heard that before, but I live in an apartment with a really really small freezer. So instead, I bought these ice sheets:

http://www.amazon.com/Flexi-Freeze-Refreezable-Sheets-pack/dp/B001PTGO5A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406166358&sr=8-1&keywords=ice+sheets

They are much easier to fit in my tiny freezer. Then I put them in a garbage bag so the buns don't chew through the sheets :)

u/wetmosaic · 3 pointsr/beyondthebump

I just want to second using the immersion blender! My cuisinart stick blender came with a chopper bowl attachment and it's absolutely perfect for blending up homemade baby food. I stick the blender right into the pot when I cook up large batches of baby food, and use the chopper cup when I'm blending up individual meals or smaller batches. I freeze everything in silicone ice cube trays in 1oz portions, and then store them in labeled zipper bags. Then just thaw as I go. It's super easy, and the homemade food looks and tastes SO much better than the jarred stuff. Like, actual vibrant colors and flavors, not overcooked and bland. You can also season things however you like (vanilla, cinnamon, cumin, ginger, fresh herbs, etc.) and it's way less expensive.

Not to mention that you'll get a ton of use out of a stick blender if you're any kind of a home cook. Homemade mayo, soups, sauces, fast whipped cream, etc.

EDIT: These are the trays I use, if you're interested!

Damnit, now I want that gun ice mold for my scotch/bourbon/whiskey/whisky....

Hey I found one

u/woojay · 2 pointsr/AskCulinary

A few things I could suggest;

  1. As already mentioned, the alginate bath is too weak. I shoot for 1%/wt alginate, meaning every 100g of water I add 1% sodium alginate.
1.1. Similarly, the amount of calcium is not enough. I also shoot for 1%/wt on calcium on my flavor base. This has to be blended in, not whisked in.

  2. Once alginate is blended in w/ water, leave it alone as long as reasonable. I refrigerate mine overnight if I can. I hate to drop anything unless my alginate bath is at least 2 hours old. If not, there will be lots of tiny bubbles that will interfere w/ consistent reaction.

  3. If you can pre-make the flavor base, the easiest way to make big orbs is to freeze them before. I use these; http://www.amazon.com/BNYD-round-Flexible-Silicone-Bottom/dp/B00IOW4LME/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1450760491&sr=8-14&keywords=round+ice+tray (there are others but this is my recent favorite for price). But w/ fatty ingredients they may separate upon fully thawing, inside the membrane. They look cool when they do that, but the taste/mouthfeel would have to be judged subjectively.

    3.1. If freezing beforehand, a few things to try;

3.1.1. Try to make the 'gnocchi' as thick' as possible to help them stay together

3.1.2. Try to make the alginate bath a bit stronger, say 1.5%/wt to make it thicker as well.

3.1.3. You can also leave them in the bath a bit longer, for thicker skin. Part of the challenge w/ this recipe is that there are quite a few fatty ingredients that will inhibit proper reaction. Letting them stay longer in the bath help to bridge over those fatty gap and develop stronger membrane.

  4. If dropping frozen orbs, I microwave the bath until they are about 110F. At this temperature it takes about 1 minutes to develop thick enough skin. You do have to watch out and make sure it doesn't freeze to the bottom of the bath. If this happens, you have to very gently nudge them off the bottom.

How about some sweet ass ice cubes?

They light up and are ice cubes. That's pretty awesome in my book.

Congrats on both the weightloss and the GPA gain! Good job! :)

u/anonymoushenry · 2 pointsr/ketorecipes

Will report back. They're in the fridge now. I have these silicone bottomed ice cube trays. The batch was just a bit more than one tray would hold. I tasted the spoon and it was just like a creamsicle! =)

u/D_Lilly · 2 pointsr/SexToys

Coconut oil melts easily so it's not surprising you're dealing with a pot of liquid right now. My suggestion is to get a small ice cube tray like this style and just put enough liquid coconut oil to cover the colored silicone bottom. That's what I did when I made my own DIY Foria Relief suppositories and honestly for a sex/masturbation session you could use even less than I did in each well because it was too much for me. Then you stick the tray in the fridge and pop one out when you need some lube. It will only take a minute or less for that little nugget to warm to your body and melt when you're ready for it.

u/SirAlcohol · 2 pointsr/cocktails

I would honestly just buy ice if you are using enough that this is even an issue. Alternatively, if you just need 2 or three trays with covers, you can't find them at Bed Bath and Beyond? It only needs to be silicone and have some sort of plastic. Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Good-Grips-Covered-Cube/dp/B00004OCLA

u/Evtide · 2 pointsr/whiskey

I’ve been using this one with great results.

https://www.amazon.com/Crystal-Clear-Ice-Ball-Maker/dp/B0713SZD2Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1541278994&sr=1-1&keywords=Crystal+Clear+Ice+Ball+Maker+-+Ice+Ball+Spheres+Whiskey+Tray+Mold+Maker

(I hope that link came through)

It’s important that clear ice is achieved, otherwise there’s no real benefit over regular freezer ice. Clear melts much slower.

u/Sirwootalot · 2 pointsr/vodka

Vodka is best chilled; stones would definitely be pretty useless for it.

It's the base for a LOT of great cocktails though, and I absolutely love using ice ball molds in mine. They melt a lot slower than ice cubes, so it doesn't water my drinks down nearly as much.

Mine are something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Original-Whiskey-Ball-Bartending-Essential/dp/B00B4PYUEC/ref=asc_df_B00B4PYUEC/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198094063648&hvpos=1o5&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15917863178350069453&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9019656&hvtargid=pla-318930088479&psc=1

u/vrpat88 · 2 pointsr/Mixology

These have been the best thing I've found. They take a bit of work to get a lot made, but they are clear and they keep shape well.

The one thing I suggest is to fill them most of the way then get them to the freezer and top them off using a funnel once you get them in. Otherwise you have to be perfectly still to move them and that never happens.

u/sallybangs · 2 pointsr/sexover30

Get these. Fill them with melted oil and then pop them in the fridge. If your bedroom stays cool enough, you can keep some nearby. When it comes time to play, pop one out. I’ve just directly inserted them into holes and let them melt during foreplay. Or you can melt them in your hands and spread them wherever necessary.

u/cloudsnapper · 2 pointsr/breakingmom

I have this stuff that's like big bubble wrap thats filed with water. I freeze it and put it in the seat a minute before I leave the house. Then once I get there I put a towel on the seat then the ice thing.

Like this: https://www.amazon.com/FlexiFreeze-FF3FS02-3FSRT-Ice-Sheet-3-Pack/dp/B001PTGO5A

Just a towel helps a lot too though.

u/NotUrAverageGiraffe · 2 pointsr/MealPrepSunday

I’m so impressed you made such a large portion. I’m not sure if this would help you because it freezes four cups at a time (two pack freezes 8) but I use these (amazon link ) so that I can defrost/ heat up just a cup or two of soup at a time.

u/0six0four · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I like the little ice cube tray Those silicone trays work pretty well. Plus who wants huge cubes of ice! Little ones are better to chew and stuff

u/JaneHurtin · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Totally unrelated - I was looking at your wishlist and wanted to tell you we have the ice cube trays and they are AWESOME! Amazon used to sell them in 6 packs and I used them for storing all the baby food I used to make. I honestly never thought I would give a crap about ice cube trays, but they really are the best we've ever had. :-D

Ice guns and ice bullets obviously.

u/toppp · 1 pointr/AskReddit

If you'e going to buy an ice cube tray, the ice cube tray on toppppp.com is $2.50 with 4.8 stars instead of $10.50 with 3.6 stars.

Another toppppp.com favorite is the steak knives (actually all three knives: steak knives, chef's knife, and bread knife).

But I believe the most popular item on toppppp with the reddit crowd is the Rice Krispies Treats cereal.

Disclaimer: toppppp.com is my site, if you couldn't tell from the username. But it's pretty popular with Reddit.

Edit: ice cube tray price I linked to just went up to $3.99 + $3.50 shipping. But it's literally one of the highest-rated products on all of Amazon.

If you used a mini brain ice tray as a mold then suspended them in a different colour you could make jello shots

u/recluce · 1 pointr/Cooking

I got the same one from Amazon. Great for making mini chocolate cubes, too.

u/awkwardlittleturtle · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I prefer one with a lid like this. Helps keep out odors and food crumbs. (Plus I always manage to spill water everywhere going from the sink to the freezer >.<)

If you use water bottles a lot, these are quite handy as well.

As for me and my greediness, I would love this shirt for my friend. We're super psyched for Despicable Me 2 (July 3rd) and I'd love to give this to him to wear when we go see it. I also very much like this belt and need it to keep my pants up since I lost weight!

Molecular Gastronomy Spherirication is really fun and sciency. I made little balsamic vinegar spears when I did it for a project but you can do it with fruit juice and then put them on ice cream. They are kinda like boba but much smaller. I used these pipettes to make the spheres (if you decide to do this, I still have a bunch and totally willing to send you some if you would like) It was pretty fun and I'm an adult. Also I have a simpler recipe but mine is specifically for vinegar...not sure if that matters...

These brain ice cube trays would make ice or you could make mini brain jello jigglers.

It only makes two which is unfortunate but they are much bigger and last way long than the other molds. All the other molds are smaller. Message me back after you use it love to hear the results. Just make sure to read the instructions and the ice will come out clear. I’ve read all reviews and this seems to be the best functioning one.

You're so sweet to think of getting your student a gift! I had a couple patients give me gifts and a couple give me cards when I completed their work. As a student treated like scum most of the time, those gestures meant more than they realized.

A few of my friends have these and my dental school advisor gave me a set right before graduation. They're super cute and they always get comments when they're used.
