It’s real rare that disc golf makes it on the front page, so I have to take this opportunity to try and grow the sport.

First of all disc golf is amazing. While you have to buy your own discs, you can get a starter pack for cheap. Courses are almost always free, and you can search your area to find a course that is close to you very easily. Its an awesome way to get outside and be active for the day, while having a little healthy competition with your friends. If you want to learn this guy’s YouTube channel has a TON of amazing tips and techniques. If you’re interested in watching the pros play (they are fucking incredible) check out Jomez Productions.

It’s an amazing game, and truly my favorite way to spend a day. If anyone has any questions feel free to pm me!

These are probably a better investment than the Innova one based on the heavier weights they tend to come in. You'll still want to throw them if you get Into the game where you'll probably shelf the Innova ones for being too light.

This is the best disc I've found. Holds the flight pattern of a Discraft while still being soft enough to not hurt my pup and it's also fairly indestructable.

For a more traditional disc that is durable, but flies relatively well compared to Hero Discs, I would go with a [Hyperflite Jawz] (https://www.amazon.com/Hyperflite-Jawz-Disc-4-Inch-Blueberry/dp/B002CM3O6G) disc. They are puncture resistant and can fly a lot further than the soft rubber or foam discs. They are also softer than Hero Discs, which makes them a little safer. They are more expensive than other discs, but I have had mine for over a year without any punctures holes. They are heavier than Hero Discs so they don't float quite as well, but they can carry some distance, especially compared to the Kong flyers.

Your pouch mechanism is appropriate for a trebuchet, but probably not for a catapult. Maybe you should consider something like this rigidly fixed to the end? That would at least give you a more consistent release.

If you want to go kinda crazy with your torsion, you could also consider a ballista.

bestdiscgolfdiscs.com suggests a Valkyrie, Roc, and Aviar for 3 discs. They do use Amazon Pay but you can't use a gift card for that, which is why I assume you specify Amazon.

The problem with buying a set is they're just going to give you what ever they have but it will be cheaper than buying individually.

This Innova Set is decent, The TeeBird is my favorite Innova fairway drive and one of the best all around discs and it has a recommended Roc. I can't say anything about the Rhino but I think when you're starting out putters don't matter much. A similar Innoa Set This one is Leopard, Roc, and Aviar. So maybe this is a little safer as most players will agree that Roc and Aviar are solid discs. Then maybe throw in a GStar Valkyrie and you're just over $40 but you've got some solid discs.

This set of 4 Discraft goes right up to your budget but there's no listing of discs so it's a gamble. In the photo you see a Nuke which is a horrible disc for beginners.

This DGA set Is notable because they're all 150 class discs. Lighter discs can be good for absolute beginners but if you did play a little and can throw then light discs might be more of a burden. It all depends on your arm speed, I'd probably suggest this more for women and children. The Squall is a great beginner mid and the Reef is a solid putter. In normal plastic I'd say the Rogue is not good for beginners but being so light it might work.

NTA - if someone expects that it's an actual gambling operation with actual payout from an antique slot machine in someone's home, I don't know what to say.

The fact that you never fully emptied it proves you weren't running it to scam money out of anyone.

Edit: if you want to avoid it in the future, though, get fake quarters/slot tokens like these. That's what my grandparents did.

If you are not sure if playing games with a stick is something you are going to like, an okay choice for a starter stick would be the WWE Brawl Stick. If you decide to become more serious about fighting games these sticks are fully compatible to swap in Sanwa brand stick and buttons no soldering required, which are what most players prefer and the same parts most expensive sticks use.

The arcade stick on the left is custom made and is compatible with 360, PS3, and PC. I got that one used on eBay for $80 shipped. So it is possible to get a good stick with full Sanwa parts used. These parts were designed for use in arcades and they can take some real abuse.

The second one is limited out of 300 and I got that for $150 with a book bag carrying case. It looks like Amazon has this model for $137 right now. Usually when there is a major fighting game tournament going on these sticks get discounted even more on the official Madcatz store.

Amazon, Walmart, and some of the other big box stores sell them online.

In-person purchases are trickier. I've had luck with internet searching local disc golf stores but there are definitely areas where they really don't exist. Party stores, gas stations, media stores - it's weird who sells them and who doesn't.

Premium discs run about $15 a pop. Base discs around $8. There is a very real difference in the quality of the plastics here. A lot of people recommend DX plastic to start with because it's cheaper and easier to throw. Personally I found they went to crap waaaaay too quickly - big gouges and scrapes pretty much from the start.

This is the gold standard for starting:

https://www.amazon.com/Innova-Disc-Golf-3-Disc-Colors/dp/B000Q838XW/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1506561217&sr=8-6&keywords=disc+golf+starter+set

Personally I like this set more from a mold stand-point (although the Escape is probably fast for a beginner).

https://www.amazon.com/Dynamic-Discs-Prime-Disc-Starter/dp/B00T6TBNX4/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1506561217&sr=8-16&keywords=disc+golf+starter+set

This set is pricier, but you'll use it forever. Plastic is darn near indestructible and they are useful discs at several play levels - you'll need an arm for the volt though.

https://www.amazon.com/MVP-Disc-Golf-Neutron-Straight/dp/B00OS9ZN4C/ref=pd_sbs_200_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=KC5V01K22CEXT3DVJ35M

Personally though, I'd probably piecemeal one together for a starter kit. A 175g Judge Classic, 170+ E-Mac Truth, 170+ Neutron Switch or Lucid River, and then a light 150g driver like an Opto Air Diamond maybe.

My university gym can only use liquid chalk so I've bought a bottle for when we run out sometimes and found the best use of it for outdoors. Use liquid chalk as a base layer, and then continue using my regular chalk when needed.

This is what my gym uses, and I find it better than Mammut brand, http://www.amazon.com/Edelweiss-Liquid-Chalk/dp/B000MWC9IM

I think that there should be a manufactured version that is really rare (but comes with a bunch of ammo) because, lets be honest, how many people actually have blow dart guns laying around? If they were rare then they could also be really silent and have the options for making poison darts and whatnot... just for the sake of balancing. I think it would be really cool to coat a dart with rotten kiwi juice and shoot a player with it and slowly, over time, they would become sick just like if they had eaten one.

There should also be an option to make one... I'm not really sure how that should work... but they should be less accurate and less effective than the manufactured version.

Manufactured version (option to be spray painted like the mosin):

Thankfully we've never been a victim of this, and I honestly have no idea what I would do if it ever happened to me. However, to try and lighten the mood a little, I will say I thought it happened back in high school. Apparently when I left for the bus one morning, I didn't close the door all the way and it sprung open about half an inch. I noticed it when I got home, peeked inside and didn't see anything missing, but I still felt nervous so I walked across the street to the house of /u/xaffinityx. Her dad is kind of scary when you first meet him, but he's super nice. Anyway, whoever "broke into" the house doesn't know that, so he went over with one of these and scoped the house for us. It was awesome.

Any specific starter kits you recomend? I have been thinking about picking up the 3 disc starter pack on amazon, but the 5 and 8 disc have two of the discs you mentioned ( Valkyrie and Shark).

Money is a little tight right now, but I can put off getting a set if saving for the 5 or 8 disc is worth it. What would you recommend?

Also looking to hopefully get some friends into this. They prob won't have their own discs to start. Would I be better off getting 5 or 8 discs to play with 2-3 people?

Well you get what you pay for when it comes to arcade sticks. When I was doing research to get mine I found that the qanba q1 doesn't have quality parts. If you are new to fighting games and want to try a stick out then this may be a good one since it is cheap, but it is really easy to upgrade the buttons and sticks to higher quality ones.

I also read on srk that pcb failures have been reported, but the person said that it happened to his stick, but not his friends. so idk about that

That being said madcatz sticks are quality. If you get a tournament ediciont (TE) then they will come out of the box with good parts and they are known for lasting several years. They are more expensive though. As for pc support the x box ones do have official pc support but the ps3 ones do not. The ps3 ones may still work with your computer if you get lucky with the chipset you have in your computer. I got a madcatz SFxT ps3 arcade stick when it was on sale and it does work with my computer so you may want to do some research on your specific computer.

If you could spare the extra 40 sollars and don't mind that it is a ps3 stick I highly reccomend this stick, but if you just want a beginner arcade stick that you can upgrade later if you like it then the qanba q1 would be ok

You can cover the plywood with cork or felt, or padding and cloth... be creative - if you drink lots of wine then you already have the cork. :)

I purchased one of these - yeah it was $50 and I could have made one cheaper, but for me it was worth it to just buy the damn thing and forget about it.

It's chalk in liquid form that dries really quickly. It's perfect for gyms where they ban regular chalk (like mine) http://www.amazon.com/Edelweiss-Liquid-Chalk/dp/B000MWC9IM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370651741&sr=8-1&keywords=edelweiss+liquid+chalk Edelweiss is the stuff I use and it works like a charm for all my lifts. I've used others but I like how thick this particular brand is and how much chalk it coats your hands in. Warning all liquid chalks look like semen of different viscosity before you apply them and they dry. You've been warned.

I started a DIY electronic project where I moved this https://www.amazon.com/Arcade-Machine-Handheld-Gaming-System-electronic/dp/B00S4HI1NY into an altoids tin. The ribbon cable was very brittle and snapped, so now I want to make it a plug and play. I'm wondering if anyone can figure out if I can, or how to attach AV cables to the board so it can be hooped up to a TV, or if that is even a wise idea. Thank you for helping, I don't know much yet but I hope to learn more soon.

(PS I'm aware that most of the games on that aren't good, and it probably isn't worth the trouble, but I want to do a project and this was cheap, and offered learning experience.)

u/SamaelMorningstar · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

I understand that. In most European countries you get no stick under 300$ with shipping an all 350~400$, that's a damn whole lot of money, specially for your first one where you are still unsure to what extend it fulfils your expectations. I bothered the guy on the madcatz twitter to no end before buying mine. :P

I got myself the one of the SFxT Pro (they are like dirt cheap right now, very sturdy and heavy, I like that) and the T.E.2 (with a different artwork). The later one was considered the best (at least in the madcatz product line) back then.

However, at least by the 2nd beta^^1 none of 'em worked out of the box with SFV. I downloaded "joytokey" (maps any pad/stick inputs to keyboard), run it, and used these settings. Worked like a charm, didn't feel no input lag nor did I need to restart the game.

To my knowledge, only the xbox360 sticks worked out of the box, at least by the 2nd beta round. This has to do with the input type the game recognizes. Now, I strongly assume this will be fixed by official release (partnership with madcatz and all), but I saw no official statement from capcom on this yet.

----

^^1 Sadly I missed the 3rd beta due to some circumstances. If anyone could update us if this changed during the 3rd beta it would be very much appreciated.

They are showing pictures of two different baskets. As each basket has different chain configurations. One just has 24 outer chains, while the other has a set of inner chains.

The one with inner chains, has heavier/beefier chains. Looks identical to an MVP Black Hole Pro. They retail for about $140.

The basket with just the outer chains look like the baskets sold under the name Yaheetech. They retail at Amazon for about $100 each.

I'm not sure I'd order 10 or more of these baskets directly from China. For 10 baskets, I'd expect shipping to cost $300 to $500, more than what the baskets are worth. Maybe if I owned an import business, where I had my own shipping containers being shipped regularly. Maybe then it would be worth the hassle and the wait.

Anyways, you could probably get the Yaheetech on sale for about $85. Black Hole Pros are sometimes on sale for about $120. These aren't very heavy duty baskets though, and probably won't do well, if you keep them outside in the elements. Guess that's why they are considered portable.

If you search and asked around locally, maybe you could find some good USED baskets. It just matters where you are located. If it's a popular disc golf area, you may be in luck, as some courses get new baskets every 10 years or so, and they sell the old used ones for a nice discount.

I use a disc Gator, but even folded up, it's really a pain to carry around.

It's easily saved over a dozen discs so far, from water, from trees; once from on top of a dugout.

I can see where your 3-foot pole could be useful in certain situations, though. And easier to carry.

What do?

As an absolute beginner, should I bother sending them back and getting 20gs?

I also ordered the Red Dragon Voyager Rainbow 4 20gs, and they arrived as ordered. Should I be trying a variety of darts, or getting particularly comfortable with one weight?

No cabinet for me! I'm currently using a backboard, similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Viper-Framed-Dartboard-Backboard-Mahogany/dp/B002LF8TPU/ref=sr_1_4?s=leisure-sports-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1523773261&sr=1-4&keywords=dartboards. It took me more tries than I want to admit to to get it right, but it's fine. What I'll do next is get a 4 X 8 ft piece of fiberboard, mount my new board (I have a new One80 Gladiator II waiting), and build a raised oche that's mounted to the fiberboard with hinges, and make my own surround with foam from a local store. Sounds like a lot of work, but it is easier than you'd think.
