It's actually pretty good - you should try it. Only $29 now, too!

Bomb list link Studio Ghibli movies would be most appreciated. I've been wanting to build a collection of them for a long time :)

Howl's Moving Castle $22.94

Spirited Away $21.01

Kiki's Delivery Service $19.99

Cat toy $6.48

Ebook $4.39

Total is $74.81 :)

Amazon sells a copy of the whole series for ~$65

Other than that I couldn't find any place that was streaming the 97 anime.

The 97 Anime covers the golden age arc and while it has its flaws its overall a pretty good adaptation. Fun fact: the production studio that made it has only ever worked on two IP... Berserk and literally every pokemon anime.

In 2012 they produced a movie triligy that also covered the golden age arc. The animation is CG, though decent despite this, and the story more closely follows the manga... but the pacing suffers as they essentially crammed more content than the 97 anime into 1/3rd the time. Some prefer the latter, some dont.

Then in 2016 they took a dump.

>Torrent, Go!!!!

:( It's a mere $10, and every extra purchase goes to making the sequel that much better!

u/Foxtrot434 · 10 pointsr/moviescirclejerk

That fucking fascist, not letting us steal others work that they put an incredible amount of time and effort into. I mean, if it's good maybe i'll buy the Blu-Ray, but if it's something I deem to be lesser? Nah, bro. I'm not paying you $50 just to see your stupid movie in theatres, BECAUSE THAT'S TOTAL HOW THIS WORKS.

At least for the UK, the home release was announced ages ago, and will include dubbed and subbed versions.

This collector's edition which can already be pre ordered on Amazon is just 20£ ! So I think it won't be that costly :)

(And then I won't feel bad buying it cuz I don't even have a Blu-ray player 😂)

They look crazy good. So much better than what you are most likely expecting. But more importantly, they sound great too. If you've ever watched these back in the day on TV or DVD or Netflix, etc. they have a very heavy hiss in the audio track. There is very little hiss on these. To me that makes the world of difference, more so than the video.

I feel like I'm over selling it, keep expectations in check for 1930's movies, but given the age of these they look and sound great. Some look better than others, but well worth the upgrade over DVD imo. It's like $23 or something shipped to the US. Do it, Halloween is approaching.

u/oneofthesevendwarves · 7 pointsr/dvdcollection

https://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B008RLD1VY This is the best set, specifically the UK version because it's often FAR cheaper than the American set. Also, it's region free so you should have no issues. It's missing North By Northwest, but even buying this set and North By Northwest at full price would save you money.

u/I_R_RILEY · 6 pointsr/BritishTV

I really liked the DVD Collection that included the "Homage-O-meter" subtitles that showed what each reference was.

u/acefuddyduddy · 6 pointsr/Berserk

Just taking a look for a second, I found this box of war on ebay for $125, which is about what i paid for mine. Seller has 100% positive feedback and includes photos.

I’m guessing you might’ve seen this one if you’ve already checked amazon, but again its sold by a highly rated third party so it’s probably legit. And it seems they use amazon’s return policy so that shouldn’t be an issue either. As far as the price goes, I can’t say if it’s cheap or not but it seems reasonable to me.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

u/graffiksguru · 6 pointsr/dvdcollection

I highly recommend this set. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alfred-Hitchcock-Masterpiece-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B008RLD1VY/ The only difference from the US version, is it's missing North by Northwest, which I just bought separately. It's also significantly cheaper, temporarily out of stock now, but you can still get it at the sale price. US set for comparison: http://www.amazon.com/Alfred-Hitchcock-Masterpiece-Collection-Limited/dp/B008DCAG9M/

I mean, you aren't wrong about the correct word, but they actually call it the "Quadrilogy"

u/BoozeMonster · 5 pointsr/venturebros

It'd be cool if the DVDs had a special feature like they have on the Spaced discs called an Homage-o-meter. Every time they reference something from pop/nerd culture there's a subtitle that tells you what it's referencing.

u/ShakeNBakey · 5 pointsr/Dodgers

This no scoring bore fest made me go browse Amazon (skydiving was pretty intense though) and now I'm contemplating buying this beauty

u/themanbat · 5 pointsr/dvdcollection

I've already done it. So I say do it.

Buy the UK edition that has 8 films. It's less than 40 bucks.
https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Monsters-Essential-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B008H45YSO
Strangely cheaper than the 6 film edition

Remember the set might go out of print eventually. If it does, and if you're unlucky, the used prices on these things can get ridiculous. Like right now the Friday the 13th Series set on blu ray goes for over 300 used on amazon. I'm a classic and modern horror nut so this makes me want to rise from the dead to take vengeance on my enemies.

You can buy the additional more complete series as they come out, and if they all are announced with release dates, you might be able to sell it used for more than you originally bought it.

>This would be horribly disproportionate if it were "resized" to fit a case spine, you idiot.

Not a case spine. The spine of a box used to hold the full collection of DVDs (and likely a separate DVD of bonus material). See the Lord of the Rings Box Set. The Batman image that we're discussing would fit effortlessly on such a box.

That's unfortunately not a fan edit. That's on the widescreen DVD collection... I have it and haven't watched it since.

I'm not bothered too much by the CGI celebration. It's sad they cut out the original music though.
What irrationally annoyed me was that it made no sense for Anakin as a force ghost to go back to young Anakin mode when neither Yoda nor Obi Wan went back to younger forms.

I also feel bad for the guy who was there originally because it seems like they just cut him out to give a shout out to the prequels which were fairly new at the time.

At least back when Demonoid was a thing I was able to download that Despecialized edition that someone made of the original trilogy.

u/umich2005 · 3 pointsr/weekendgunnit
u/DrDoak · 3 pointsr/dvdcollection

Well, I detailed what's in the Blu ray set here I know that there are other versions where Lucas has altered parts of the original trilogy about 3 times now... I guess it depends on which one you might want. I have this version which adds some changes that were made on a third VHS release about 11 or 12 years ago. There's also this version but I honestly don't know much about it.

EDIT: formatting

1.) I'm linking this simply because what I need/want, for work, currently is pretty expensive. I could never expect someone to buy it outright, so money towards that would be the best option for me.

2.) This is an option if you're dead set on not doing gift cards. I'd really like to replace my box set. Lost it while moving.

C'mon...gimme.

There are a lot of one, two and three star comments stating that the discs are low-quality.

u/accaris · 3 pointsr/dvdcollection

If you don't have The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Special Extended Edition, I would recommend it.

When these box sets came out, the DVD industry was nearing its height, and LOTR was the biggest and hottest franchise in the fantasy genre. Nowadays, you can usually find the individual boxes dirt cheap. Amazon has them as low as $5 each.

(You can get it on Blu-Ray too.)

u/southern_boy · 3 pointsr/gifs

If you haven't seen it Spaced is one of the funniest, shortest, sweetest, most poignant television series ever produced.

If you liked Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz or Big Train you'll love Spaced...

u/Nbaysingar · 3 pointsr/Berserk

That's actually not terrible for the Box of War set considering that it's a limited edition box that has been out of print for ages. I would definitely make sure of the condition it's in before considering buying it though. Some of the ones I've seen listed for "cheap" in the past were in pretty rough condition since it's such an old set. But all of that aside, the one drawback of that set is that it's an older release. There was a remastered release that came out later on, and you can buy it on Amazon for $68 brand new.

That's pretty much the only practical way to own the 1997 series in North America at the moment. There was a Bluray re-release in Japan and the UK, but the Japanese release doesn't have English audio (the dub is actually really good), and the UK release went out of print and is region locked to boot. The UK publisher is doing a steel case version soon, so if you have some means of bypassing region lock and want to own the series on Bluray, then that's your best bet.

u/ThaBEN · 3 pointsr/PSVR

As far as i know, there are no streaming services that support 3D. The only way to watch 3D movies is to buy the actual 3D Blu-ray disc. You can find some under $10,- like:

- DREDD 3D (2012 remake)

New from $3,99 on Amazon

Dredd is filmed nativly in 3D. Movie is about drugs which lets you experience time in slow motion in which these scenes were shot using a high speed framerate camera at 3000 fps. These shots look fantastic in 3D!

- Need for Speed 3D (2014)

New from $7,47 on Amazon

Need for Speed is based on the video game, which biggest advantage is that while racing, there are a lot of long camera shots from first person view inside the car. Also verry cool to watch in 3D.

Both movies can be found dirt cheap while still having some of the best 3D effects available. Just don't expect a top notch story xD

They're ideal if you just want to check out 3D Blu-ray movies on PSVR without spending much money.

Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2 are my personal top picks for best 3D effect.

Time to talk some Bond. Ian and Ray are right. The 80s are Roger Moore territory. Never say Never again is not considered official by some Bond fans as it was not produced by the same group as the rest of the Bond films. The movie was released the same year as an "official" Bond movie staring Moore. The title, is a reference to Connery saying he'd never play Bond again.

These are some of the highlights that made this Bond film unique (aside from a cool video game). Read more here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Never_Say_Never_Again

Edit, I was going highlight this by taking a picture of the box set I own, but forgot to take the picture. So instead check out the Amazon Listing for the 50th Anniversary collection. Notice in the Customer's Also bought section is Never Say Never Again because it's not included. (the top review also lists out what's included and notes that NSNA is omitted for the reasons I mentioned above.

If you mean the US Amazon no, there's no listing. Funimation hasn't even provided a release date yet for the movie on disk, even Japan we only have some flyers that list a July 26 date, no official announcement yet. It's not likely you'll see site start putting up listings until the license holder for that region officially announces the release date.

Amazon UK has a tentative listing date of Oct 31, but that may be incorrect or a placeholder, if you'd like to see their listing https://www.amazon.co.uk/Your-Name-Collectors-Blu-ray-DVD/dp/B01MXXEEIM

My choices would have to be Spirited Away. This is the first anime movie that I convinced my girlfriend to watch, and she enjoyed it although she isn't an anime watcher. The second would have to be Titanic because it is the first classic emotional movie that I shared with my girlfriend, and she cried like a baby :p. I love movies because they bring people together to share a common interest or even make new ones.

long time fan of the alien series here.

This documentary came out with the Alien Quadrilogy Box Set back in 2003.

Here is the link to what I'm talking about.

https://www.amazon.com/Alien-Quadrilogy-Aliens-Resurrection/dp/B0000VCZK2

My point is that if you want to watch this documentary then download it asap because fox just looooves to put out copyright take downs on youtube.

u/3Scorpion · 2 pointsr/movies

Alien Quadrilogy

4 movies (2 versions each), plus bonus material for a total of 9 discs.

I'm not really a fan of Alien Resurrection (though I like Jean-Pierre Jeunet's directing style), Alien & Aliens are two of my favorite movies. Alien 3 is still fun, and I feel handles the property far better than any other Alien related movie since.

u/Solo_Virtus · 2 pointsr/AdviceAnimals

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat

Of course you should. If you don't have the full LOTR extended edition trilogy, you automatically relinquish your claim to huge nerd-dom.

The extended editions also have about 6 hours of behind the scenes documentary for each movie....a total of 18 hours for the whole trilogy. Definitely worth a watch at least once, to appreciate all that went into the films and the charming people who were behind it.

Also, there is 4 different audio commentaries from different groups (cast, directors, art team, producers) for each movie. That's about 40 total hours of audio right there. I love to listen to these sometimes when I'm doing other stuff, never really ceases to be entertaining.

u/EyeceEyeceBaby · 2 pointsr/lotr

The Extended Edition Blu-Rays and DVDs both contain cast and crew audio commentary. I highly doubt you'll find legal copies online that contain the commentary. You're going to have to purchase physical copies.

  1. This movie is so special to me. When I was going through a hard time a few years back, Howls Moving Castle was just about all that would lull me to sleep. I watched it every single night for months to occupy my brain from bad thoughts about someone who had broken my heart. The movie is so beautifully executed with breathtaking back drops and perfect voices. Since then, Netflix has removed the movie and now I am finding myself in need of the constant stream of the movie again. It would come in handy now!

  2. I love movies because... they have the ability to take us away, even for a moment, from the reality in our actual lives.

  3. I don't have an 3D movies on my list but please just refer back to my number one...

I know I was out of order up there but I don't want to change it. <3

u/LiesandBalderdash · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Here goes! It looks like I got all but 1 item from my current wishlist. Yah!

1.) Something that is grey.

2.) Something reminiscent of rain. Why not a raincoat?

3.) Something food related that is unusual. These are from Japan and Matcha flavor is hard to find in the US!

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!) For my son! He's a nugget.

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it! Guy Gavriel Kay is an amazing writer and I think everyone should read his books. They evoke so many emotions!

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! How about free? Read the classics!

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...) NO.

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. I think by definition art is not useful, but very beautiful!

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? Because Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion are amazing.

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain. For stabbing. It's a silent weapon, which is best. You don't want to attract more of the undead.

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. My current goal is to be more active as I try to lose weight, but foot pain is a big barrier to walking/exercising more. I have heard awesome things about this foot wrap and it would be a huge help and keep me from being in pain as I exercise!

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. It's hard to find in stores now, weirdly. And it's all I wear daily!

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why? PS4!

14.) Something bigger than a bread box. EDIT A bread box is typically similar in size to a microwave. Home. Made. Cappucino. It can go right next to the breadbox.

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball. This is pocket sized!

16.) Something that smells wonderful. Apples!!

17.) A (SFW) toy. She-Ra is pretty safe for work

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school. If you're in college, you're gonna need one of these.

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be. Adventure Time! Come on, grab your friends!

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand. What's mrore amazing than being INSANELY comfortable? Just look at it! Get inspired to sleep. It looks so comfy, I can't handle it.

It was first released as web original on hulu during the writer's strike. Now there's also a DVD (with musical commentary) for $10 on amazon.

I'm not sure I'd call it SciFi (it has a little bit of incidental comic book villain science), but it's really excellent. <3 Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day and Nathan Fillion.

u/ravikus · 2 pointsr/harrypotter
u/watsoned · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I was just talking about this movie, so I will carry that conversation on over to here.

What movie? Why, the 2012 movie Dredd, of course. It's set in a future world where of course things suck and people live in horrible conditions. And we all know that small spaces with lots of people equals crime! Enter the Judges. They are, as they say 'judge, jury, and executioner' all in one. Their job? Find bad guys, judge them guilty or innocent and issue sentences. The main character in this movie? Why, Judge Dredd. Who you will never see much more than the bottom half of his face because of his helmet, but that's actually pretty cool. It's a movie with a lot of action, a lot of explosions, and yes, some violence. It's an action movie through and through and it doesn't try to pretend to be anything more serious than that or to have some cheesy 'message'. No, they just want to shoot shit and blow shit up. And it is awesome.

MISCHIEF MANAGED, eh?

I've added way too many Hitchcock pieces this past year to justify this, especially considering this releases the same day:

Bond 50: The Complete 22 Film Collection (with Limited Edition Hardcover Book) Blu-ray

But hopefully this means Vertigo will finally be available on Blu-ray!

The 15 films are:

Saboteur / Shadow Of A Doubt / Rope / Rear Window / The Trouble With Harry / The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) / Vertigo / North By Northwest / Psycho / The Birds / Marnie / Torn Curtain / Topaz / Frenzy / Family Plot.

Edit: Of these I only have Rear Window (DVD) and North By Northwest (Blu-ray), so .....

u/AidenRyan · 2 pointsr/pics

If this is not sarcasm, you are a very bad man or woman(though looking at your name I would say man) and as others have said you need to watch Spaceballs. You should feel bad even though there is an increasing chance that this film may actually be older than you are, it was 1987.

So many great sequences.

In fact, Amazon has this for less than $40, Blu-Ray even. I have seen 6 of the 9 movies on there, 1 of which I can't really remember and should pop it in with the other 3 some time, and the other 5 are great.

Is it okay to enter more than one and let you pick? I like so many movies its hard to choose!

I love movies because...

So, the reason i want these is because me and my sisters used to watch them all the time and it was one of the only times we got along and had a lot of fun. It brings such good memories and we always have fun when we watch them!

Phantom opera

Robin hood men in tights

The Princess Bride

Monty python and the holy grail

(note: Regular DVD of any of those are fine, i just saw the blueray first)

Me and my mom LOVE godzilla so this would be perfect!

And these are som of my favorite movies of all time!
Moulin Rouge

Lord of the rings box set (Im looking at the used version)

And this because i havent seen it and people say its great!

Again, feel free to choose which come in bluray and which you want to get DVD, im not picky!

Thanks again and sorry if me posting a lot of them causes a problem :D

Then get this set as a companion, it has 3 important films missing from the set

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alfred-Hitchcock-Collection-Northwest-Strangers/dp/B006LMILRK/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=hitchcock+blu+ray&qid=1566590569&s=gateway&sr=8-5

That should give you a good chunk of his films! You’ll just need to pick up To Catch a Thief.

If you want his earlier stuff, look into Criterion Kino’s releases (theyre pricier tho)

u/Dorutta · 2 pointsr/criterion

Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection [Blu Ray] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008RLD1VY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_NewCDbVW4DN7X

This one is 5 bucks more and comes with a lot more movies. It doesn’t have NXNW so to get that plus two more grab this as well

Alfred Hitchcock Collection: Dial M for Murder / North By Northwest / Strangers on a Train [Blu-ray] [1951] [Region Free] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006LMILRK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0fwCDb667WFYH

So $65 total for 17 movies. Or at the very least $45 for 14

u/BlueVelvetUndrground · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

Even if you get the standard version without all the bells and whistles, the artwork is a lot better on the region free version than the Region 1 version, even if it does come out a week later. I want this a lot.

u/SmilesUndSunshine · 2 pointsr/classicfilms

Slightly off topic, but Notorious isn't on the nicely priced Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection, $44 for 14 films. It is on the more expensive 3-film set with Rebecca and Spellbound, $50 for 3 films, used.

Anyone know why that 3-film set is so pricy?

Amazon Canada is the only Canadian "retailor" I can find them listed through - HOWEVER the release has been pushed to August 8th. :,(
As per /u/dragonclaw417 's comment below, the censoring isn't actually all that bad in parts 3 and 4.

u/J-Talking · 2 pointsr/StardustCrusaders

I believe that when I watched it on Crunchyroll, Parts 1, 2, and the first half of Part 3 were the uncensored versions. (If I'm remembering wrong, feel free to downvote this comment and tell our bro what's really up.)

But if that won't work, English blu-rays for Parts 1 and 2 are coming on the 25th (which will include the Japanese dub as well). I assume they'll also be available in Canada, but I guess I don't really know for sure.

u/Nightvayne283 · 2 pointsr/StardustCrusaders

Your best bet is with this, although quite a few retailers are seemingly selling it if you have a preferred one. The only other legal physical release for the show in english was just a mess. There's no dvd/bluray for the rest of the series yet.

u/jjsparx · 2 pointsr/Midsommar

If you want a physical copy on blu-ray it's available from Amazon UK - both versions, each on its own disc. There is also an exclusive DVD release with 2 discs of both versions, but that's only available from Sainsbury's supermarket.

The link below only mentions director's cut, but this is a 2 disc release with both versions. Not sure how long it will take to ship to Oz, but it's your only option right now.

It's a workprint. Essentially, Fincher washed his hands of Alien3 during editing, and the theatrical cut is a studio cut. Later, some of Fincher's people put together a rough cut of the film as Fincher wanted it. There are some unfinished special effects, and the sound is poor in a couple of scenes, but it's a better movie, with better fleshed out characters. It's available in certain issues of the DVD, e.g. the quadrilogy set.

That said, it's still not a great movie, at least by comparison with the first two Aliens. Fincher's hands were tied throughout filming. For example, the sets he had to film on were created for an earlier version of the script.

  • Since answer number one is wine, and that sounds the same as whine, here is my related item. Many friends and family can attest to the fact that when I am whiny and grumpy, I am nearly always grumbling and pouting over a cup of tea. And what does tea go into? Mugs! Since I am a a Slytherin, I do believe these green and black mugs are quite befitting of me.

  • Riddle number two is broom, of course. What is a frequent (at least in the movies) activity done when using a broom? Why pretending it is a microphone of course, while you sing and dance (cough I mean clean cough)! How can you listen to someone singing without going to their concert? By buying their music! But wait, you would probably need headphones to listen to the music you bought, right? Well, I have you covered!

  • The answer to the third is a hat! Hats are quite lovely, very stylish, you know. Who is stylish? Why royalty, silly! (Well, sometimes). What does royalty like? Pocket watches! And what a fabulous watch this is.

  • The fourth riddle is a book. Books are like being another person. Conmen pretend to be other people. That is a crime. Committing crimes makes you go to jail. Jail makes you buff. When you gain a lot of muscle, you have to buy new clothes. Clothes like this.

  • The final official riddle is a trunk. Trunks fit everything, and take them to different places. What other household items can fit a lot of things and transport them? Wardrobes, particularly wardrobes that lead to Narnia! Narnia has evil witches, and fauns. Fauns are magical creatures, just like dragons and phoenixes. What do those have in common? Fire! Fire is hot. Do you know what else is hot? Sauces made out of peppers, like these.

  • The answer to the bonus riddle is capes. Villains wear capes. Lady Macbeth is a villain. Lady Macbeth had a weak husband. Babies are weak. Kids are baby goats. Goats will eat anything. Fat Albert liked to eat. He is a cartoon, you know what is also a cartoon? Anime, like this.

You can get the extended editions bundled in with the hobbit trilogy for a reasonable price, but I really didn't like those hobbit films at all, so I'm holding out for finding a boxset like yours that isn't insanely expensive.

You can get the UK version here. Its a much better set, just preordered myself, reddit thread on it here

u/watermelonbob · 1 pointr/harrypotter

Oh man, this scared me for a second. I had pre-ordered this from amazon already and I thought I missed out. Turns out the set I ordered and the one posted here are exactly the same with respect to content. The only difference is that the one posted here comes in a nicer box and has the DVDs for the 8 films. If you don't need the DVDs and don't care about a fancy box or a pre-order number, I'd stick with the cheaper one that I had already ordered.

A little OT, but are you in the US or the UK (or elsewhere)? Amazon UK has some spectacular deals on blu-ray sets. (I picked up the full Harry Potter series (fantastic on BD) for about $50 US (now about $45 and the complete Battlestar GALACTICA series (another stunner on BD) for around the same cost a year or so back (it's now about $66 US).

They also had word changes in the books and movies:

I actually ordered the UK version of the Blu-Ray collection to have the original dialog. And it was cheaper to have it shipped to the USA than buying it here, somehow. :p

Why on earth would you pay $60 for an electronic copy when you can have all 8 movies on physical Blu-ray region free for £27.14 ($41.90)?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00543RC0Y/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought this set in 2011 for £30.00. They shipped it out Royal Mail, cleared customs just fine and it arrived in mint condition! There was minor labeling differences on the disks and jackets and one movie was called the philosophers stone instead of the sorcerers stone. The same thing at Amazon US was $99 at the time.

Now, think about this, the same set here in the states is $61.75 at Amazon, so why buy an electronic copy of only the movie when you get the whole set with all the extras which you can keep forever for only $1.75 more?

If you want to save $20, you can get it out of England.

One thing I've learned is that Amazon UK usually sells the same movies cheaper, simply look at the technical specs section to see if it is region A (US) or region free. Your Amazon.com credentials work at Amazon.co.uk, they already have your credit card number and shipping address and they'll do the currency conversion for you.

On August 31st of last year, I bought the region free BTTF trilogy on Blu-ray for £10.00 along with The Ultimate Bourne Collection on Blu-ray (Region Free) for £10.00. Shipping was £4.07 and it came up to only $39.59 delivered.

That same year, I bought The Pacific and Band of Brothers on blu in the collectors tin's, across the Atlantic and across this country, delivered for around $49 when just one of those was selling at Amazon US for $55.

As of this posting, the BTTF trilogy on Blu-ray is going for £11.80 ($18.22).

Normally I agree with you, but that little "3D" on a movie killed a great movie which deserved a sequel. When I saw "Dredd 3D" advertised I thought it was going to be another shit show like "The Punisher: War Zone" and completely skipped it until I pirated Dredd. When I saw how good Dredd was I immediately bought the DVD.

The Princess Bride. I've loved this movie ever since the first time I saw it. It is able to do romance, comedy, and action all very well, which is really rare.

The Netflick.

u/Mechakoopa · 1 pointr/technology

Limited shelf life applies with media as well though. There's a limited window in which a product will sell for it's maximum price, after which many people will no longer expect to pay the full price. Unless you argue that a copy of The Princess Bride (1987) should cost the same today as a copy of Frozen (2014). ('All you can consume' subscription services do not apply here as the individual performance cost paid to the licencer is amortized for the consumer across all subscriptions and viewings by the licencee/provider, i.e. Netflix)

u/TheCheshireCody · 1 pointr/movies

This is, AFAIK, the newest version, although I seem to remember a few different ones coming out in quick succession. Again, it's never going to look like a brand new movie, but I doubt there'll be a better version unless it gets remastered for 4K someday.

There is a great boxset that includes all the essential films from the Universal Horror cycle which includes a lot of special features with each film and great packaging with lobby cards and neat booklet explaining history and the players including actors, directors, makeup men

https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Monsters-Essential-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B008H45YSO/ref=sr_1_4?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1498338729&sr=1-4&keywords=universal+monsters+collection

Also last year Universal started putting out seperate collections of each film which also includes the lesser known sequels as well as the Abbot and Costello films with the Universal Monsters called Complete Legacy Collections.

Most of the universal horror films have good blu-ray releases

u/bookchaser · 1 pointr/amazon

FYI, Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection on Blu-ray is $39 if bought from Amazon.uk and shipped to America. That's $45 cheaper than buying it from Amazon.com. The UK version is billed as being region-free.

The American version has a number of 1-star complaints about defective discs. The UK version, with different packaging (presumably a different print) has no 1-star complaints.

The price might be going up though. I put it in my cart at £20.42 and 5 minutes later the public page is £24.50.

u/crapusername47 · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

I believe many of the films in this boxed set have been made available separately:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008RLD1VY/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_ifFitb0P1RTN3

Not included in that set is North By Northwest which looks glorious.

If someone complains that a Blu-Ray is 'grainy' you can go ahead and dismiss their opinion and tell them to go watch the Predator Ultimate Hunter edition.

The one that's currently out is region locked to Region A; the USA and other non-Australian countries. The one that was recently delayed from this month to April is region locked to Region B; which includes the UK, Australia, and other miscellaneous countries.

Blu-ray regions are different to DVD regions, and most Blu-ray players are not region free. The ones that claim to be 'region free' usually need to be toggled between regions (which can be fine if you're willing to put in the effort). This also goes for most Blu-ray players that you'd buy/find in a PC, since the region locking is baked into the player, not the software.

So, it's possible to play a Region A disc in Australia with the right player, but chances are it won't work with what you have already, and it definitely won't be as easy as just having the Region B disc.

The Lord of The Rings Collectors/Special Edition is a great investment.
Here it is. It's a bit expensive, so you might want to choose a cheaper version. In my opinion the countless hours of extended content, cut scenes, and insight into the physical props, actors, and huge scale is all worth the money.
