I survived a pretty bad bedbug infestation last year and here are some tips..

Do you have a vacuum that uses a bag? If so, vacuum up all those bitches that you can find, then place the bag in a plastic bag and toss it in the dumpster. Repeat daily.

Get bedbug mattress covers, stat. You can seal those bitches in and they will die eventually. Don't just toss your mattress, just seal it and the box spring. Pillows too.

Go buy some giant Ziploc bags (the massive ones). Wash all your clothes, dry on the hottest setting for an hour, store all your shit in plastic bags.

If you can meet me in West Loop tomorrow I can give you these http://www.amazon.com/Nuvan-ProStrips-Package-Strips-Cages/dp/B0073ZOOQ6 which we found to help

Unfortunately you'll have to be patient with pest control. Our dude had to come every other week for six weeks. We never saw another bug after the 4th week.

Also, r/bedbugs

Get yourself a bug-a-salt!

SKELL INC. Bug-A-Salt Camofly 2.0 Insect Eradication Gun https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TXQQDW6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_OH1QCbPCGMW7W

It’s seriously so awesome and works very, very well.
I even got a laser site attachment for mine. Every day during the summer I go out to my back porch after work and spend 20 minutes killing flies. It’s cathartic.

You're going to have a lot of fun! When I started out I wanted to try out every component I could get my hands on and ended up spending "hundreds of dollars" (LOL: As if that's a lot of money compared to most other hobbies).

So it sounds like you've got everything you "need" so I'm going to tell you what you definitely don't need... But could have a lot of fun with:

  • You definitely don't need a 5-pack of "frickin' LASERS" for $2.
  • You definitely don't need a MQ-4 methane sensor for building a stink detector for $5.
  • You definitely don't need a 6-axis accelerometer/gyro for $3.
  • You definitely don't need a 2-pack of tiny Arduino Pro Micros (which can emulate a mouse/keyboard) for $15.
  • You definitely don't need a 4-pack of small servos for $15.
  • You definitely don't need a 300-pack assortment of superbright LEDs for $12.
  • You definitely don't need a 10-pack of 5v buzzers that add beeps and boops to all your projects for $1.50.
  • You definitely don't need a package of copper tape to make a capacitive touch-sensitive user interface for $8.
  • You definitely don't need 4x brushless motors, 4x electronic speed controllers (ESCs), a flight controller, a transmitter & receiver, silicone wire, barrel connectors, LiPo batteries & charger, and loads of propellers to build your own quadcopter out of PVC.

    Have fun!

Edit: I almost forgot one of my favorite toys: The 8x8 LED matrix! You definitely don't need a 10-pack of red 8x8 LED matrices for $10. Nope!

It's an ultrasonic pest repeller. When it detects motion, it emits a very high pitch sound, which in theory humans can't hear but will drive animals away. Here's another brand. I like that this one is solar powered.

You'll need to use a gel bait. Best applied in commonly found harborage areas like around warm, moist areas, (the mechanical workings of refrigerator, behind stoves, in cabinets, under sinks, any other areas you commonly see them) place the bait in pea sized drops, and use more then you think you'll need. The idea is if they eat the bait, come back looking for more, wwr want it to be the for them to find

A good dust for void applications is alpine or delta dust. Applied with a bulb duster.

These products are great for areas you can't reach or see like inside walls. You'd remove outlet covers, lights switch covers etc. Place tip of duster inside the wall, and "blow" the dust inside the wall.

A few things to look for after applying, firstly, dead cockroaches show they're getting in the product. Also, the growth regulator will mutate the females appearance, curling the wings on their backs. Seeing these will also give you a clue you're applying the product in the correct place. All of these products are expensive, but when applied correctly will be very effective at solving your problem. Good luck to you

u/kur1j · 5 pointsr/lawncare

Prodiamine is great. Use it.

Here is a pump one for < 75$ https://www.amazon.com/Professional-190328-Backpack-Sprayer-Killing/dp/B000AYHKUO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1549731952&sr=8-3&keywords=backpack+sprayer

If your yard is very large (>10-15k sqft) probably get a battery powered one instead.

u/dh42com · 5 pointsr/nashville

Liquid sprays do no work for brown recluses generally, you have to directly spray the spider itself to maybe kill it. You need a dust. Something like this works well, https://www.amazon.com/Delta-Dust-Multi-Control-Insecticide/dp/B002Y6B4A8 but you have to use it right. Take switch plates off dust in there, under and in cabinets, be hind appliances, basically any dark places that they can hide.

u/juanitospeppers · 3 pointsr/HotPeppers

pyrethrin is good for aphids and most any other pest.

It's good to have it around for any gardener. It's organic and degrades after a few days so no worries about it being that toxic. the little 8 oz concentrate will give you ~5 gallons of solution.. which is a lot should last you a long while.

i too messed around with soaps, neem, and other stuff before getting this, it's great.

u/IAMANOGRE · 3 pointsr/howto
u/virginiacdevries · 3 pointsr/houseplants

I had a HUGE problem with fungus gnats - same with a friend who has 40+ plants (she's nuts), these things are life savers and will take care of the problem in a few weeks. In terms of mites, those are a bit tougher to get rid of because you have to treat the soil, but you can use this stuff for them! Hope this helps :)

u/user865865 · 3 pointsr/microgrowery

Like others said, yellow sticky paper to catch the flying adult, DE on the soil helps to kill the larvae as does a fan and letting the top of the soil dry, but if you want to kill the larvae immediately try something like this with pyrethrins. This is concentrated so you'll need a spray bottle, but it's much cheaper than buying diluted. I had a bad infestation and that sprayed onto the soil did a fantastic job of killing the larvae.

With the traps and spray, in a couple days most flying ones were gone and it took about 1.5 weeks for the last one to be gone. I sprayed the soil a second time after 1 week just to be safe, but it's been 3 weeks now with no bugs. When I sprayed I used about 3-4 oz per plant, I definitely soaked the top of the soil

u/charlie_double_deuce · 3 pointsr/bicycling

Need a chain link breaker tool as well. I carry this Crank Brothers Multi Bicycle Tool: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000S6HZCC and I have used it several times including the chain breaker attachment (not on the road but at home) I recommend it.

u/Borderline769 · 3 pointsr/Tucson

Got home last night and my walkway looked like a furry moving carpet. I've been spraying a 1:1 water vinegar mix, plus a few squirts of dish soap on them. Kills them, but does nothing to prevent new ones from coming inside. I'm on amazon right now looking at pesticides and sprayers. I'm considering this: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ARKSC4E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

u/yguy52 · 2 pointsr/dogs

For your sake, do NOT delay treatment at all. Fleas can make your life and your dog's a living hell. They reproduce so fast. Your pets should be on flea medication year round.

Give them the meds, start vacuuming daily and buy a can of alpine. Trust me when I say you really want to nip this in the bud.

u/Jxcintron · 2 pointsr/IWantToLearn

So I'll start this by saying this is not a sponsored advertisement of any kind..

I hate bugs. Anything with more than four legs just creeps me out. So when I moved to Arizona, and saw some of the creepy crawlies we get here, I knew I needed an answer.

Enter the "Bug-A-Salt" salt shotgun.

This thing has been so handy at expelling the multipede miscreants from my home. Load it up with normal table salt, rack your salt gun, flip the safety off and fire. (Always practice safe firearm etiquette, even with this item!) The salt disperses and is cleaned up easy enough. I have two pups at home myself and I know if I'm just putting salt around then it won't harm them.

Now when bugs enter my Home I give them the ol' what's what. Like the other posters said, get mad at the bugs. But after you get mad, get even. Show them who's the boss with the Bug-A-Salt.

u/CHESTER_C0PPERP0T · 2 pointsr/whatsthisbug

Oriental roaches are all about moisture control. Moisture, moisture, moisture. A combination of a pyrethroid liquid barrier around all rooms, along with a "dust" (Delta dust should work just fine) injected into wall voids, esp. around pipe chases and down rarely used drains (esp. floor drains in unfinished basements). Buy yourself a hand duster to inject the dust. Oriental roaches are not that difficult to control. Again, IT'S ALL ABOUT MOISTURE CONTROL.

u/Reputed · 2 pointsr/cycling

Just to add, in addition to the chain tool, make sure you bring compatible link replacements.

I have one of these which should cover pretty much any allen you would need and a chain tool in a small compact package. I got mine from a local bike shop and it has held up pretty well for my past couple bikes. I have a recumbent currently, which takes 2 1/2 bikes worth of chains... you can imagine how much potential trouble there is there!

u/Tplatypus · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

What you want is pyrethrum concentrate. It's made from Chrysanthemum seeds and is cheap and available everywhere.

The synthetic pyrethrins are more effective but also toxic and harder to flush from a plant in my humble opinion. Rather I should say that while they are both considered some of the least toxic insecticides available. But not everyone agrees.

u/woodythebiologist · 2 pointsr/pestcontrol

You can.

Read the label twice and follow the directions.

u/teenMom86 · 2 pointsr/gardening

I've tried rubber snakes. They were not effective. Something reflective and moving seems to work better. They make reflective ribbon you can hang, and also little mirrors to hang around like christmas ornaments. You can also get a decoy hawk.

u/lakellers · 2 pointsr/breakingmom

I have no advice or help for you. I'm so sorry your family is going through this!

u/RadSpaceWizard · 2 pointsr/batty

It sounds like from the other comments if you put lights up somewhere else to attract insects, the bats will go there instead. Or maybe build a screen porch, or put up nets or something.

Or sonic insect repellers, because bats use sonar and would probably stay away from them even if they didn't repel bugs.

After vaccumung and trying everything for months, the only thing that worked was using alpine flea chemical. All the natural bullshit never worked. Gotta use the shit exterminators use.

PT Alpine Flea & Bed Bug Pressurized Insecticide - 20 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005YP8BTS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_tMe3Cb8F6BZRY

Basically you give your pets capstar to kill all the fleas on them, vacuum to wake up the eggs and get the fleas hoppin, spray this and evacuate for a few hours. Then vacuum again every day. It should work.

u/Seascan · 2 pointsr/Bedbugs

If you do need to purify the beds, Nuvan ProStrips seem like a well-regarded product that might be good for that use case.

u/MikeyToo · 2 pointsr/Whatcouldgowrong

Nuvan Prostrips are what you want for infested electronics. It’s what the pros use. Bedbugs, roaches, etc. Seal the console in a air tight trash bag with one of these fora length of time and it will kill any bugs. For bedbugs, you can also seal the stuff in a large black trash bag and place it indirect sunlight for several hours. Step one, you’re using terrible pots, switch to smart pots: Smart Pots 3-Gallon Smart Pot Soft-Sided Container, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002JUY9I8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Ciy0Db905Y6GB

These allow the roots to breath AND air prune instead of death spiral, they let the soil dry more quickly, they drain easily and evenly. Your roots are suffocating right now, get them out of that asphyxiation death trap.

Step two, you need to eradicate with a foliage spray and root drench, Green Cleaner is your best bet for initial eradication every time: Green Cleaner CCGC1002 2oz Mite and Egg Killer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B55SKAK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9ly0Db7SF4Y80

Follow instructions for making a foliage spray and a root drench and do both immediately, then follow up again in 10 days, then again if necessary. Make it a regular part of your integrated pest management plan.

Step three, you probably need a lighter, better draining soil. When you repot into the smart pots you need to heavily amend the soil with perlite, especially the bottom layer: xGarden 8 Quarts Horticultural Grade Premium Perlite - Coarse and Chunky https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZDOLRI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Fry0DbTX67DB0

Step four, get a proper plant food routine going. Nectar For The Gods is a great nutrient line and you can get an amazing free sample kit if you pay postage, really an amazing deal: https://www.oregonsonly.com/samples/

I have used these nutrients on many chili grows with amazing success. Another great one is Emerald Harvest but expect to shell out a lot of money for it.

Step five, get an oscillating fan in there for airflow and increase your lighting.

Let me know if you have any questions, be sure to posy pictures of your unbelievable improvements.

u/Queef_Sludge · 2 pointsr/FixedGearBicycle

I wanted one of these originally but decided against it. I don't find myself needing a lockring tool except with new instillation. I don't plan on mounting it on my bike because I have no bottle cage mounts on my bike, plus there is the worry of theft, or aiding to theft. The additional socket sizes and the box 15 were the main things I was after. After some careful consideration I opted for these two tools. I like the grip on the park tools 15 much better.

The trixie is a pretty tool, and I love Pedro's selections of lubricants (wink) but I prefer to have two tools that cover almost every section of my bike.

I'd like to let you know first that when you're replying to comments, you're actually posting it as a parent comment. :)

Second, there are deterrents for birds such as reflective tape like this: and also sonic deterrents that emit a noise that birds don't enjoy at all, but might also keep the cat away depending on his hearing. You could also get a decoy owl, which will keep most birds off your property.

u/cleverascanbe · 2 pointsr/Android

Ya, np. I can tell you, I got all my materials from Amazon. The guide will mention copper conductive tape, most commonly associated with guitar repair. However, if you order this "guitar repair" tape it's marked up. I used Slug Tape and it works just fine for a lot less money.

In fact here's the rest of the mats:

Pre Back

Touchstone

Wall adapter -- though any should work fine I just didn't have spares and it's <$5

Soldering Iron -- I didn't have one

Guitar Picks if you lack enough -- I used about 6-8 popping the bezel

If you don't already have extended battery and cover

The only thing I didn't buy off Amazon were the magnets. I picked mine up from K&J Magnetics. Go for any of the disc type that are 1/32" thick. I think I got a pack of ten for a little over a dollar, and I believe each is rated for about 0.4lbs of force, more than enough.

It took me about 2 hours to finish the project, but read through the whole thing first, don't just wing it, and make sure you're comortable with popping the glass out of the bezel and soldering on your device. For what's it's worth this was the first time I've ever soldered, and it went better than expected. I practiced making little weld dolops for about 5 minutes before I trusted myself on the back of the device. Good luck!

u/ebmoney · 2 pointsr/interestingasfuck

sound generators to stop dog barking 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 6 If you read reviews at Amazon you will see that those type of people are known as "inconsiderate assholes" My neighbors plunked a dog in their backyard on Feb. 7th this year. Obviously purchased the dog based on his barking abilities. Great Dane. Wiki says a lifespan of 6-8 years. Fuck if I'm am going to spend the remainder of my life(old person) listening to a dog barking nonstop for hours on end. Our city has a law that says > 30 min illegal. I started calling the cops after I saw nothing was being done to shut the dog up. After the forth time the cops showed up I think a cop that had been there before showed up and was pissed. That and the legal paperwork the city sent the "inconsiderate assholes" nipped the problem in the bud, at least temporarily. The type of people that allow their dog to bark nonstop feel entitled. I expect the barking to start back up one of these days. Then it will be lawsuit time.

If I end up getting a lawyer. Security system, DVR, with 4 cameras and 85 foot infrared range. Additional infrared illuminators. Microphone. Graphic equalizer software. Aim 3 cameras and illuminators into neighbors backyard. Aim 4th camera at graphic equalizer software display running on computer. It is against the law to record conversations here so the owners are in the backyard with just a microphone could end up being illegal. Got some of this being delivered Wednesday. I think I am still going to go get some captain jacks at home depot tomorrow so I can knock a bunch out tomorrow. I'll do subsequent sprays with the pyrethrins when I get it.

Aye, I'm thinking sonic pest repelling device like these.

Oh and get a back pack pump sprayer not the little hand pump ones. something simmilar to this https://www.amazon.com/Professional-190328-Backpack-Sprayer-Killing/dp/B000AYHKUO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1540846698&sr=8-3&keywords=backpack+pump+sprayer i think you can find cheaper around 50bucks at walmart or lowes or something

That's an awesome setup. Just a suggestion for something simpler, though maybe not as effective, is using copper tape. https://www.amazon.com/Corrys-Slug-Snail-Copper-Barrier/dp/B000QD3BPW

Could at least be a helpful backup for when the battery dies.

u/Unabomber007 · 1 pointr/lawncare

https://www.amazon.com/Bifenthrin-Concentrate-Insect-Control-8-ounce/dp/B00ARKSC4E/ is what is in Talstar, but cheapAr. Get dis. Spray all the things. House. Car. Windows. Sidewalk. Grass. Trees. Just nothing in a garden you'd eat. Repeat every 2 months.

u/WhatsThatPlant · 1 pointr/gardening

Copper banding on the stem might fix it - or the cheaper option of Garlic Tea.

Don't panic - Botrytis have far smaller mouths and don't leave big chunks missing. ;-)

Well, it is a hassle, sort of, but covering up also prevents skin issues from the sun. I allow some sun to get vitamin D but both of my parents have had several skin cancers and I am high risk.

If you work outdoors you can get acclimated to the weather if you are healthy, although I see people doing construction work and riding motorcycles wearing shorts. Nope, not me, clothes are protection. 90° weather is not that bad if you are used to it.

As for the bug zappers, they attract with light and can get moths, which are not a pest. They do make CO2 bug catchers which may attract mammal biting bugs (the theory is that is how they find you, through exhalations and also scents) such as [this monstrosity] (https://www.amazon.com/Mega-Catch-MCU-900-ULTRA-Mosquito-Trap/dp/B0051C0J7G/ref=cm_rdp_product) as well as [hand held repellers] (https://www.amazon.com/Thermacell-MR-LJ-Portable-Mosquito-Repeller-Black/dp/B01BGHU7R6/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1501416022&sr=8-3-fkmr2&keywords=handheld+butane+insect+repellent#customerReviews) which I recently learned about.

There was a time when it seemed everybody had a bug zapper, years ago, but apparently they are no longer the thing to have.

I'm on Long Island and also have had a fungal issue this year. I used some fancy insect and fungal thing. Blue and black container that I got at the home depot in coram. Stuff works pretty well but needs to be applied pretty liberally.

This is a great fungicide. Only reason I used the other stuff was cause I had some other insect issues also.

This is still super expensive.

Just get some plastic contractor bags and DDVP strips. Make sure it's AIR TIGHT, leave a strip in each bag.

Don't open the bags for as long as humanly possible, preferably 2 months. At 2 weeks it should be good, but the longer the better.

Trifecta Crop control. It's a fucking miracle AND it can be used during flowering.

I used this to fight off spider mites:
https://www.amazon.com/Green-Cleaner-Mite-Egg-Killer/dp/B01B55SKAK

But its not magic, you'll be fighting them every couple of days until you harvest. Then once you harvest you'll want to bleach your entire grow room.

Edit: In response to your edit about bird mites, most of my bed bug bites were on my legs. My gf got bit everywhere. So don't use that as a determining factor in figuring out what you're dealing with.

Assuming they ARE bed bugs, then let me share some experience with you. We had them for probably half a year. Caused my gf and I an absolutely huge amount of stress. It's an embarrassing affliction which can make having company over or visiting others an absolute nightmare.

We did all of this to no avail:

  • Washed and extended dried all of our clothes/sheets/blankets
  • Put down diatomaceous earth
  • Sprayed neem oil all over
  • Had a professional come and spray our house twice
  • Bought bed-bug-proof covers for our mattress and all pillows.
  • GF tried putting down tea tree oil.

None of that seemed to make any difference. It may have helped though. Hard to say. At that point, we were still being bitten.
The only thing that seemed to work was PT Alpine Flea & Bed Bug spray. It was recommended to us by a family friend who, as a professional exterminator, had attended seminars specifically for bed bugs. We bought a few cans and sprayed everything down including around our bed and inside our recliners. The poison stays in place for a long time on the surfaces you spray it on so even if you miss some eggs or whatnot, as long as they have to crawl through it to get anywhere near you, they will die. So spray the bed frame and areas around where you stay quite thoroughly. We also changed our sheets every night (ugh).

They slowly started to disappear after that.

One thing that can help confirm is to get the cardboard sticky traps and put them near your bed. We found a couple big ones in it after a couple days which helps confirm them.

Can also get interceptors for your bed so they can't climb the bed posts.

    Other tips:

  • Spray out drawers/dressers and luggage bags.
  • If you stay at a seedy hotel/motel, put your luggage bags in the bathroom on the tile. This was recommended to me by an exterminator. We're pretty sure a shitty hotel was how we got ours in the first place.
  • They tend to congregate/live only where you spend a good amount of time. They look for CO2 from your breathing so typically they will hang out near your bed, recliners or couch in the living room, or anywhere a pet stays a lot of the time like a dog bed or similar.
  • If you have pets, make sure to keep them up-to-date on flea medication.
  • If you have gaps in your baseboard on the floor near your bed, I recommend spraying diatomaceous earth down into it just for extra help.

Might want to take more of a tool set? The Crank brothers multitool is the best compromise between tools you will likely need and weight in my opinion. Being able to tighten a loose spoke or fix the chain if it breaks is pretty damn useful. I nailed a curb pretty good on a tour and had to tighten a couple spokes, didn't have a spoke tool and was screwed for a while.

All are planted in 5gal buckets using 6in net pots. Using this airpump (one pump per two buckets) and these airstones.

The only plant with roots coming out of the bottom of the net pod is the Sweet n Sour.

Test PH at 6.5 after adding in all the nutrients into each reservoir individually, holding approximately 4 gallons of water, which is the following:

  • 4ml FloraGrow
  • 4ml FloraBloom
  • 4ml FloraMicro
  • 3ml Southern Ag Fungicide (Hydroguard replacement) Edit: after more research, it seems I should have only used .5ml per 4 gallon reservoir
  • 6ml CalMag

I try to keep the water between 67F and 73F with frozen water bottles, changing them out every 8 hours. The current lights I am using are two KingBrite 240w 3500k QB at 50% dimmness currently running 24/7 about 2 feet above buckets.

If you need anymore information, please ask!

Yep, first time ever! Zone 6.

I have all my plants in a small pop-up greenhouse and I've gotten pretty lucky with pests I guess. I just spray with neem oil and this stuff about once a week.

Mosquitos are the worst! I really feel for you: I have tried everything I've ever heard of to keep them away, because bites swell up on me like crazy. I don't know if there is such a thing as being "allergic" to mosquito bites, but I am one of those individuals that reacts noticeably worse than most.

It's so bad that when my husband and I were on our honeymoon, we stayed on a tropical island and I got absolutely covered in bites including one on my eyelid!! When we went scuba diving, apparently the bites covering my legs looked even creepier underwater and fellow divers were asking me if I bumped into coral or had contracted some strange island disease.

The best I have come up with is to rub lavender essential oil on my body (literally slather it on exposed skin) at least it is the least objectionable of all the mosquito repellent "scents" and it's the most effective for keeping them off anytime I need to go outdoors for a dog walk/errand, anytime I'll be moving around but sharing mosquito airspace. Additionally, if I'm gonna be sitting out in their world, the Thermacell Mosquito Repellent device actually does work. I was given one as a gift, thought it was a gag; tried it for giggles, and: I bought refills and always bring that thing when I know I'll be hanging out in mosquito territory.

One last piece of advice: apply rubbing alcohol to heal your bites- instant relief!! Purell hand gel does the same thing: aaaaahhhhhh. Apply early and often and you'll ease the discomfort and swelling.

Proper mixture rate for Tenacity (generic...Meso 4 SC)

I am trying to figure out the best way to determine how much Tenacity to add to my tank sprayer for my yard. Between mixture ratio of tenacity per acre, my specific size yard, and my specific sprayer, I am not sure the ratio to use and how heavy to spray...i.e. how much should my sprayer cover?

The sprayer I am using is the Field King Professional...which holds 4 gallons, and sprays .25gpm.
