OK, most of what you are describing, no one can help you with because, well, you just have to deliver, unfortunately. However:

  • You may not be on bed rest officially, but both you and your husband know that you don't need to even come close to attempting to "pull your weight." Sit on your butt and just move around enough to avoid those blood clots.

  • Look for a grocery delivery service. One by me is called Peapod. I'm not sure what is offered by you, but with Peapod, you can get delivery within a day or two, so you don't need to rely on people to "offer" to grab you things from the store. Just go ahead and order online and it will be delivered to your door.

  • Get a pick-up tool. Here is one on amazon you can get delivered to your door in 2 days for 7 bucks. Pay an extra $3 for one day shipping and you can have it in 1 day.

  • Your husband doesn't resent you, he resents the situation, just like you do. You're so close to being done though. Pretty soon the babies will be on the OUTSIDE and your body will be able to heal and while you'll both still be utterly exhausted with two newborns, at least one adult won't be so incapacitated.

  • You're in crisis mode. Forget about dishes. Your husband should stop at the store and get a jumbo pack of plastic/paper plates, cutlery, and cups. Ain't nobody got time for dishes right now. If that's one less thing that your husband has to deal with everyday, AWESOME.

  • You mention friends. As I said before, you're in crisis mode. You have to get over the "feeling guilty." If you had a friend who was in your position, you would WANT them to reach out and ask for help, wouldn't you? You would feel awful to find out that they were so miserable and needed help, and you didn't know and didn't offer up enough help? Your friends want to help, but they probably just don't know how. If you have someone you are close to, ask if they could help set up a "meal train" amongst your friends. Basically, people will bring you dinners at specified intervals (every night, every few nights, etc) in order to help lessen the stress your husband is under. Again, this is just one less thing he has to do when he comes home from work.

  • If you can at all afford it, call in a cleaning service. You can usually get these people to help with laundry as well as regular cleaning. Sure, its not going to cover 100% of the laundry for a family, but they can help a lot. Again, this will help your husband out immensely.

  • Another suggestion would be if you know any neighborhood teens who might come over after school a few days each week and entertain your son for a few hours. Ideally, they would come over as your son wakes up from his nap, they would give him a snack, entertain him, give him a bath, and then tidy up some of his toys so that when your husband gets home, he can focus on things other than bathing your toddler.

Just remember, no, you're not on bedrest right now, but you're clearly not functioning either. You need help, and honestly, much of the help you need right now, you'll need within the first few weeks of your twin's birth as well, so why not set it up right now?

Suggestions: get a grabber and use that to pull the bag toward you. You can get cheaper versions.

Use a selfie stick and poke the bag until it’s open and you can photograph the contents.

u/9inety9 · 11 pointsr/DumpsterDiving

I dumpster pick retail stores for tools, electronics, software, pet supplies, etc. My primary dumpster picking tool is the 36" unger nifty nabber grabbers. They're best ones I've found so far. I've used these grabbers for years. They're made in 36", 48" and 96" lengths.
Heom depot sells the 2 in this linked picture. They're also available on Amazon.

I've pulled heavy vises straight up and out from Harbor Fr8 dumpsters without breaking the grabber.
I also use a long pole with a hook, separate long pole with a strong magnet and occasionally used a long pole with a thin stainless steel cable lasso fastened to the end.

I don't crawl or jump into dumpsters anymore due to having balance issues. I don't want to fall and break my arm, leg, rib or hit my head on the pavement. I also don't want to get poked by a used needle, cut by broken glass or stuck by a rusty nail(s) sticking out from broken pallet lumber or any other sharp objects that could result in injury.

u/FaeryLynne · 10 pointsr/disability

I have trouble standing and walking, but am fine when sitting, so most of my advice is from that viewpoint.

Swiffers for everything! Mop/sweeper, duster, dusting cloths, etc. They're really efficient and disposable so I don't have to deal with things like mop buckets, dirty mop heads, cleaning feather dusters, anything like that.

One of those extendable pincher things to help pick stuff up off the floor.

An extendable scrubber for the bathroom. The shape makes it really easy to get into corners.

A clothes folder makes it really easy to fold your clothes, and I can use this on my lap while sitting down in bed.

A walker with a seat makes it really easy to get around to do things and has a seat for when I need to sit down. The basket that most come with helps to carry supplies from one room to the next.

Stick vaccums are super lightweight and easy to maneuver even from a couch or bed.

A scrubbing attachment that goes on a power drill is so helpful when you don't have the strength or stamina to scrub by hand.

I swear by all of the Kaboom products. All of them are no-effort cleaning supplies. They have toilet cleaner, mold and mildew cleaner, and, of course, the famous shower foam.

An automatic vacuum like a roomba is great for most people, but I've never had one so I can't comment myself.

Soak your dishes. There are special products that help get dried on food off your dishes, but I've found that just soaking them in hot water for 20-30 minutes before trying to wash them gets most stuck on food off. For really tough, baked on gunk, add a dryer sheet to the water. Sounds weird, but it helps soften up the crusty blackened burnt on food and it comes off easily.

For food that's stuck on the inside of the microwave, take a cup of water, add some lemon juice, and microwave it on full power for 6 minutes. The food will wipe right off.

I might think of more things later. If I do I'll come back and edit this post.

u/roadkill336 · 9 pointsr/migraine

I agree... something might be messing with the vestibular system. Sinus problems could do it. Or might be a blood pressure issue instead.
You probably need to see a doctor.

also, if you dont mind, I've got a few ideas on making those chores more tolerable. you could get a plastic tub to set on the counter and keep dirty dishes in. When you're ready to load the dish washer, grab a step stool, set your tub on the ground, and sit by the dishwasher. (same could be done in reverse with clean dishes. load, move to counter, sort.)
as for picking stuff up, one of those grabber sticks could probably cut down on a fair amount of bending. Getting a basket and sitting down to pick up localized messes might also work. (if you want to get your older kids to clean up after themselves better, you could always do something like 'what goes in the basket goes a way for a week')

u/yblame · 9 pointsr/Showerthoughts

At a certain age you have to ask yourself which would be worse. Bending over to pick something up? Or crouching down to pick something up and then having to stand back up from a crouch?

Eh...it's a toss-up, and you make the same noises either way. At some point, you just give in and get one of those grabber-stick thingies.

Disclaimer: Do not attempt to lift small children or pets with the grabber stick thingie. Sit down and let them come to you!

I pray you're not talking about the Gopher II they sell at Target. I bought one recently as my fiancee and I made a commitment to walk more at night and decided to pick up trash around the neighborhood. The lock on that piece of shit Gopher gave out on the first night, so the clamps can no longer be locked shut. Additionally, the lock keeping the arm open broke on the second night, so the arm constantly tries to collapse itself. Paid 9.99 cash in store plus tax, lost the receipt, can't return that bitch.

What a piece of shit.

u/SnazzWaddock · 5 pointsr/needadvice

A footstool + cushion to keep the leg raised while sat down.

Compression socks (she might be given these by the hospital) to reduce the chance of blood clots.

She’ll also likely be given crutches but you can buy more comfortable ones online.

Also she’ll need help if she has stairs.

There’s a kind of frame you can get to place around the toilet. It’s a bit like a Zimmer frame - handles designed to help take their weight when sitting down/standing up.

A long handled grabber https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0076VM39W/

Heat/cool gel pack to help reduce initial swelling.

Kindle/iPad/phone and chargers and plug socket nearby. Basically, something to keep her mind off her knee as much as possible.

Make sure she starts the exercises as soon as possible after the op - and sticks to them. The people who have the best outcomes after a knee replacement are the ones who make the effort to keep it up. This is important. Failing to do the exercises can put the recovery at risk.

Good luck to her. I’m sure she will be just fine. It’s such a common procedure these days.

Mage hand is just a cantrip -- it has no agency beyond the caster of the spell. It's like if she used this thing to take the sword. I would still curse the dwarf, as the warning said "Anyone who steals from Mother Night is cursed" not "Anyone who touches the treasures of Mother Night is cursed."

u/Ranchette_Geezer · 4 pointsr/NoStupidQuestions

Some of them use this:

https://www.amazon.com/Toilet-Paper-Reacher-Wiping-Tool/dp/B003WM6U1Q

It's also handy for old people whose joints are stiff.

(If you don't want to click on the link, it's a 16-inch long plastic wand. You wrap toilet paper or a wet wipe around one end and wipe yourself, then push a button on the handle, which releases the paper/wipe.)

u/erokk88 · 4 pointsr/pics

I bought an extra long grabber stick to do this around my neighborhood. Honestly I really enjoy it, it occupies my mind while I walk around. The dog likes it too because I don't get bored as fast so the walks are eeeeextra long.

u/jxcb345 · 4 pointsr/oakland

I use this one to pick up trash - it's a little shorter than others, but it feels (and acts) well-made.

u/Sqwirl · 3 pointsr/newhampshire

Me again. I'll move this to DM, but I also want to address the "hazardous materials" concern here. Most of what we're talking about from my experience at the commons is loose trash, but of course there is the possibility of finding something more substantial and concerning. That's why I'll bring one of these:

https://smile.amazon.com/Reacher-Foldable-Lightweight-Reaching-Extension/dp/B078RMCFWQ/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=grabber&qid=1565793902&s=gateway&sr=8-3

I have monkey toes, so picking up small things wasn't a problem and larger ones weren't as far away.

You can get one of these fairly cheap and they come in handy plenty even when not pregnant, when you have to reach in a space to get something but your arm is too big to fit or too short to reacg or when you need to grab something that is too high up for you and taking a ladder to it is a lot more work (such as a ball sitting on the edge of a first story roof)

I had spd with my last two so bad gettng around was hard as early as 12 weeks. Sweeping, mopping and vacuuming were excruciating. So I sat in a desk chair with wheels and pushed myself around the room as I swept/mopped.

My second pregnancy (first I wasnt allowed to do much because I was on bedrest) i was able to continue working my job in a grocery store/deli where I was provided a stool to sit when necessary but otherwise expected (and managed) to work as much as everyone else right up until 36 weeks when I quit. I could have managed the 2 more weeks until she came but had wanted a bit of time with just my son before she joined our family.

I wouldn't have even remotely been able to do that much work with my last two pregnancies.

In short: different people handle things differently. Listen to your body (if it hurts or wears you out too much, lower it down to a point you can handle.) and don't try to base what you can do off someone elses body.

Sometimes it's a combo of mental and physical reasons that people have trouble

u/onemegamanfan · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

well speed is key ;) I go almost every day so I know what day the truck comes to take it all. I use a grabber and a stepladder. I usually try not to climb in unless its something i just can pass up. The grabber does most the reaching.

I can tell you that finding games is RARE (this is my first game find in 5+ months of diving). You will probably get a lot of empty cases (the DS ones are what seems to be popping up a lot due to saving space in the store).

There is a bunch of great info over at /r/DumpsterDiving

u/ravia · 2 pointsr/videos

This is the actual one. I had to glue one of the "suction cup" type grabber end thingies. I may eventually glue the other. I used several applications of Shoe Goo (the magical and amazing glue). It is very cheap, and the rubbery suction cup thingy is good for pieces of paper and most things. Cigarette butts remain a challenge. I'd like a little "hand pump, non-motorized vacuum" for hitting them sometimes, if one were made.

Hell, I want one of these and I'm fully ambulatory.

u/dorky2 · 2 pointsr/disability

I am not a wheelchair user, but my brother is. You might invest in one of these reacher/grabbers to help you get things from high up or off the floor. Are you only using the chair when you're at work?

As a teacher, my main concern would be maintaining a visual on each student in the room, which is much harder to do when you're sitting down. I also would think you'd want to make aisles between desks wide enough for you to navigate so your students can't take advantage of your not being able to get to them. My best suggestion, if you have enough space for this, would be to arrange your classroom so that all desks face inward, either in a circle, semi-circle, or square. This way you could teach from the middle of the room and maintain line-of-sight as well as easy access to each student. You will probably also need to rearrange your storage around the room so that you can reach everything you need.

As for gloves, you may want to find a pair designed specifically for use with a wheelchair, like these. Whereas the padding on bicycling gloves will be at the base of your fingers, the wheelchair gloves have padding in the space between your thumb and forefinger.

My advice for dealing with people who are offended by this (and I know a lot of disability rights advocates who would be) is to be respectful of their position and recognize that they're looking at this from a different perspective. In my opinion, they have a valid point and I see where they're coming from. But you have a legitimate point of view too, and it's obvious you're not doing this to make fun of disabilities or to cheapen the reality of disabled people's struggles, but rather to learn more about it and to spread awareness.

What kind of chair are you going to use? If you use a generic sling-seat version you can get at a drug store, you will find it absolutely necessary to get a better seat cushion for yourself, and probably better back support as well. I would not want to sit in one of those for 7 hours of teaching.

Good luck to you!

Whoa! With multiple ERCPs, why did it take so long for the surgery?

My suggestions:

  1. Don't wear tight jeans or other tight pants to the surgery. You want to leave wearing something nice and loose.

  2. Get a grabby stick (something like this) as bending over can painful for a few days or more.

  3. Move around a little to avoid the pain from anesthesia gas, I'd get up and walk a bit every couple of hours, and then when feeling better would go for (very short, as I am lazy and was tired) walks outside. Just like a block or two.

This is pretty nifty, and within your budget.

u/Maezriel_ · 2 pointsr/rpg

Like this?

u/flipflopped_plans · 2 pointsr/AskWomenOver30

I'm in my late 20's, I hope it's ok that I post here. I had a fibroid removed during surgery for endometriosis.

If you're having a laparoscopy, the doc will knock you out and then cut 3 holes in your stomach. One of them will pump gas in so the docs have more room to move around. Through another hole s/he will put a camera on the end of a long thin tube. Through the third hole they'll put the instrument to cut (or burn) the fibroid and remove it. they make another cut if they have to use another instrument.

After surgery you'll feel however you feel after anesthesia. Pro-tip if you're prone to puking let the anethesia team know and ask about a scoplamine patch. You'll have some trouble using your ab muscles for a few days. You should ask someone to stay with you and hand you things on shelves and things you'd have to bend to pick up. If you have a friend who has a grabbing stick ask if you can borrow it. Your doc will give info about if/when you can shower and how to clean your scars. Another pro-tip, don't use waterproof band-aids, sweat got trapped in mine and one of the cuts got infected.

After a few weeks at your check-up from the doctor you'll get a piece of paper from the pathologist telling you how big the fibroid was and if there was anything odd about it. If you really want to know you can call the office after a day or two and ask. If your' really lucky, they might even have a picture of it. I'm sure you'll much better with that intrusive tissue out of you and gone.

u/never_hits_pan · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Definitely can vouch for them.

I have used their shadows for about three years now, and really love the vast majority of them; they have online ordering as well as shops here in Finland, though we don't have quite as large a palette selection as some of the other countries (in terms of palette layout).

In almost every case I've found them to be true-to-pan, smooth, long-lasting. While I'm not sure I'd say their mattes beat out, say, Lorac Pro for texture - they hold their own for the most part, and the formulas in general are really quite good for pigment/pricepoint/variety.

The magnetised palettes are definitely heavy-duty, though, and not necessarily the lightest thing to throw into bags, and I like to keep a couple of sizes onhand, and swap shadows around as needed.

A couple of tips for saving space/weight, particuarly for travel:

1)If you have several magnetic 5 or 10-pans, remember you can stack them and just remove the tops except for one to serve as a protective "lid" for the whole group. Takes away a small amount of space and weight if needed, at least.

2)If you're concerned about depotting and damaging shadows, a simple but obvious thing you can do is just buy a small magnet - I had a slim retractable pen magnet (very inexpensive usually, few euros or dollars), you can EASILY lift them out without risking damage to the shadows this way. Simple as that. (I just don't keep this in my bag, lest it mess with magnetic strips on cards, etc.!)

Similar to what I had onhand:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-151211-Magnetic-Telescopic-Pick-Up/dp/B001C7NN86/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1421096111&sr=8-7&keywords=magnet

Hope this is useful in some way.

Ok here's something easy that'll cost you about $35. Wait until he opens his window. Or break it if he ever leaves i don't care. Drop a pregnant cat or rat in there. The rat will hide and do its thing. The cat will kinda do the same, but it'll fuck you up if you come near it. Then just wait. He's either gonna have a rat problem and chewed wires eventually. Or he'll have a cat.

Sent you a message! I am willing to donate a “reacher” looks like this!

Yay the way I put it wasn't so clear, more like a light weight fiberglass pole suspending claw/grabber (carbon or plastic) just to reach out around the edge of the track to pluck larger items like wings, bodywork, etc. LIKE THIS

It pretty much is. Current PC mods just hack the layered armor system to display item IDs that aren't natively supported. A true transmog system would unlock an appearance for an item once you had owned it at any point in time for use with the layered armor system.

That's why it's so infuriating to a lot of people. There'd probably be a lot less fuss over it if it wasn't even there. The technology is right there and it works! But they still haven't implemented any sort of system in the game without modding.

It's like having a delicious dish sat right in front of you, and then you're told you can only have specific condiments and side dishes despite the rest of them being across the table in plain view. But with tools from an outside source like a grabber you can magically get any and all extras you desire.

Definitely look into them! This is the one I got, but there are a lot of great options out there!

Walk to where senior citizen supplies are kept. Pick up a grabber claw, walk back and grab that Thermacare right off the floor.
