I used to use a cajon bag, but it ripped at the seam over time. Probably because I didn’t always completely fill it, putting additional strain on stitches that weren’t designed for that weight. Now I use a parachute bag. Fits larger games like Gloomhaven and Mechs vs Minions and without putting them on their side, and the canvas makes some more oddly shaped games easier to fit inside it.

Buy a Copper Basin takedown bag. Slap a small inconspicuous lock on the zipper. Remove the Velcro patch on the front pocket. Looks like a cross between a hiking pack and a regular backpack.

This bag is incredible. Well constructed and large enough to carry tons of games by itself.
Necessary? No. You can do 'MMA' with no protective gear in the buff. I wouldn't, but you can.
Useful? Sure.
Here's my take on gear:
Grappling gloves: Definitely should have a pair.
Head Guard: Unless you like getting concussions, this is useful.
Ear Guards: I don't own this currently, but it's a useful thing to have if you want to avoid looking like a fighter (cauliflower ear can affect employment similarly to facial tattoos in some situations). You can get cheap wrestling headgear though, no need for special mma earguards.
MMA Shorts: grappling shorts? yeah, you should have some shorts. Do they need to cost $50+ a pair? No. Cheap $20 shorts are fine.
Kneepads:Not necessary, but if your knees are getting busted up, wear some. Again, you can get cheap ones, so it's not a big deal.
Mouthguards: A necessary item. You don't need to spend $100 on a custom fitted one (though people claim those are very comfortable), but you do need to have one. Use it all the time. It's the little accidents while rolling, or the accidental hit when drilling that can cut off your tongue or knock out teeth-not just the big fights. A cheap boil and bite is fine when you're beginning.
Shinguard: Necessary. I don't care if you plan on kicking trees until your shin becomes made of adamantium. This allows you and your partner to spar a few rounds and still be able to walk tomorrow.
Other necessary items:
Compression shorts: Unless you're going with vale tudo style shorts, have something that won't get pulled down even if your shorts do.
Cup: A lot of guys like the muay thai steel ones, I like my nutty buddy, find one that works for you. Some people say to not wear one. If you're done having kids, maybe. Really it won't be useful most of the time. That one time every couple months that it will catch something is well worth wearing it every day.
Sparring gloves: 16oz usually, depending on the school.
Rashguard: I don't care if you're doing gi or no gi, you should have this, IMO. A cheap walmart one works fine though, no need to spend for an MMA one. Just make sure it's heat dispersing not heat retaining.
Personally, I also own some thai pads, focus mits, kick shield, tombstone pad, and I'm planning on buying some mats in the next month or so.
That said, talk to your trainers. Don't buy any gear immediately. Any gym will have loaners of all the basics. Go in there, get your ass kicked for a while, and then figure out what you want to do. A gym may specifically want you to have this or that that's slightly different from the norm.

A good bag makes a world of difference. I have a great duffel that has a separate compartment for clothes so they don't get mixed in with my sweaty gear. I love that. Military Parachute Bag
I’m overly cautious so I got this bad boy from Amazon for my Planck.
Why not take a 127 of your 500 dollars and buy yourself a 5.11 72 hour bag. if that is a too much then I suggest hitting the local military surplus store and buying/building an alice "hellcat"(google it).
You seem to have everything but I get the feeling your lacking in having tried these items out. May I make a suggestion. On your off day, say it's saturday from sun up to sun down live out of your bag. And I'll tell you the things your going to see right away.
Your lacking a more solid and durable utensil and mess kit. Find something metal for your fork or spoon and add a squishy bowl or folding platic plate too.
You need a second mode of holding water, add a water bladder to your bag (wait till you get a new bag before you buy it) your itemization is a bit off. I suggest making a small holding bag for every catagory. Your lacking in the ability to carry anything extra with your bag. I'd look up furoshiki to help you with that. Your food choice is really bad, the weight of your soup is a bad choice your bars are not a meal replacement and they'll hurt your moral over time. Think dry, think moral when it comes to your food. Here's my plan for you, take 250 dollars and buy a good rush 72 bag and a food thermos the biggest most solid one you can find then add a nice solid kabar while your at it. If you shop around all three will set you back about 250 bucks.
From there go out to your local grocery store and pick up some lipton chicken noodle soup, the dry packs that just need hot water. Pick up some uncle bens boil in bags rice. Then add in some grains that are easy to cook. Switch up your bars for those beefy weight lifter kinds.
If your not going the mountain house or MRE route then at least get the best over the counter food you can.
After you look into furoshiki buy a measure of cloth and practice wrapping shit.
While your at the grocery store buy some thick straws, cotton balls, petroleum jelly, and a square altoids tin. Then look up how to make some fire straws.
You're better prepared then 80% of the population but lets boost you to 90%.
If your really really cheap start at the 99¢ store and thrift stores to get all the things I suggested. But the three things you should spend money on are your knife your bag and your cooking set.
If you're in a sporting store perhaps, but there's a range of solid bags you can find on amazon that are much better value, e.g: this one

FWIW, I'm a huge fan of the 5.11 AMP 12. It's a 25L bag and you can replace the hexgrid on the front with something less tactical looking if you want. I keep an admin gear set on mine for more organization and less tactical. It seems like you prefer a more discrete bag but I figured I'd throw that one out there too.

My personal advice for 1.
First focus on cardio, and build up your cardiovascular fitness. Later on once you're in decent shape, incorporate a ruck regiment.
The following is only my opinion,

Buy yourself backpack with triple military style straps so you dont hurt your back, make sure you're properly strapped.
I wouldn't ruck with more than 10-20 pounds for your backs sake and safety, UNTIL you get closer to ship date and you starting to practice your 9 mil, 44 pounds.
Many guys say not to practice rucking at all to preserve your back.
I would first start just regular rucking, every two weeks.
First week take a small timed, non paced 2 mile ruck. You have a lot of time till you go in 1.5 years. So no need to push yourself very hard till you get closer to the date.
Two weeks later take another hike, 2 mile hike but this time try to push yourself for a better pace at least 20% faster.
Two weeks after that do another 2 miler, but 40% faster.
After that start your 3 mile regular timed, non paced ruck.
And so on and so forth, the whole point of it is to progressively get your body to increase distance, and then increase your pace.
It will take you 27 weeks to complete this, out of the 72 weeks weeks that are in 1.5 years.
To time yourself, and see your pace, you might need one of dem fancy watches.

I bought a backpack from Fieldline on Amazon quite a while ago. Skeptical at the sub bargain basement price but it had great reviews and pictures of people actually in the bush and hiking with it, so I figured what the hell.

Has everything you need and has never let me down for the price, and i've worn it a lot.
Besides, the bag is nowhere near as important as what you put in it. The bag you need to just have not fail at being a bag.
The bag is Gawara Gear. I’ve never used it, so I can’t attest to its durability, but it has a 4.4 rating out of 80 reviews, and the only 1-stars are from people complaining the bag is too small when they were too stupid to read that it clearly states the measurements. As for the other products, honestly, I bought a mixture of brand name products and Walmart-brand products. Some of the items I have from my time in the Army, so I don’t know if those items can be bought offline or not.
But keep in mind that for any medical products such as antibiotic creams/gels, burn gels, sprays, etc - the FDA requires that generic products (such as Walmart brand stuff) be just as effective as brand name. So you can save some money going that route by buying Equate antibiotic cream over Neosporin, for example. When it comes to bandaids and medical tape, I always opt for the fabric type and brand name. They just seem to stick on better.
One important aspect people overlook, is if you keep a med kit in your vehicle, take it out with you if possible and you’re doing to be gone longer than a short stop at a store (going into work, for example, or home at the end of the day). A lot of people don’t think about how the heat inside a car melts the glue on bandages and medical tape, and when you go to use it, it’s worthless.
You can get bags similar to that one all day long on Amazon for roughly that price. $39.95 is about what it's worth. If a $39.95 backpack is what you need, it's probably fine.

Hope that helps a little. If you go the bag inside your backpack route head to a local Target and get one of the bags (I think they are neoprene) from there. Pretty cheap and they work alright.
For my current daypack/overnight pack I picked up the 3V Velox
I think the biggest thing to remember is that knowing where everything is located is determined by your ability to pack and organize. With the 3V I know exactly where everything I want is - because of how I organized it and how I like it. I know exactly where my hand saw is, where my cookset is, where my hammock is. Organization makes the difference more then the pack itself will. Although, the 3V and similar bags have compartments built in that can help you.
Before this pack, I utilized a surplus ACU assault pack that I picked up from a local surplus dealer. I really, really like this pack (still have it) but wanted to treat myself to a newer pack so I grabbed the 3V.
Depending on your budget and tastes, there are many packs out there that are perfect for bushcraft. I like the MOLLE style packs as they provide me with the simple ability to add pouches and, since I also own a surplus rucksack, I can move the pouches back and forth.
This. I picked up this Orca Tactical MOLLE bag that goes in the storage compartment under the rear seat of my truck with a pretty stocked first aid kit and I just attach that to my rifle case when I go shooting. It's red with a huge cross on it so it's conspicuous for anyone who would need it.
Do it man you're gonna love it. BUT there is one thing I will warn you about. Scuf doesnt offer a case for that bad boy and if you're like me you don't wanna rebuy another $200 controller. I got this

Yeah this is the way to go for me. I had some military time so this is a little biased but I still haven't found a better bag for me. It does seem pricey, yet I'm considering the same one. It seems like the most flexible option for carrying bottles. I initially bought a Condor bottle pouch and it's well-built but a little loose for my 20z insulated Klean Kanteen (probably very comparable to your Hydroflask) yet not tall enough for my 40oz Camelbak.

After seeing how expensive the Cerberus one was I decided I am going to try to make my own. I don't have it in any upcoming comps but thought it might be a cool event to try and on the outside chance that I qualify and go to USS nats I thought it'd be good to have something to practice with. I ordered a small canvas cargo bag, sand bag liners, and rubber bike handlebar grip. I plan on double bagging 30 lbs of sand in the liners, stuffing it in the canvas bag, putting the handle grip on the straps, and duct taping the shit out of it. The canvas bag is close to the same dimensions as the rogue or Cerberus bags. I should be getting the things in the next day or two and will probably toss it around this weekend. I can give you an update on how it holds up if you'd like to try rigging up something similar.

I have that bag. It's pretty decent quality for the money and works well except for the obvious size/space restraints. I carried a subcompact 9mm, two clips, a 9 inch tablet, first aid kit, phone travel charger battery and cables, glasses case, and misc. pens, notepad, multi tool.
I like to carry a raincoat folded up and that wouldn't fit in there. Also, if I wanted to throw in anything like extra socks or thermal underwear, there was absolutely no extra room left with my normal kit in there.
The strap is great if you're going to be wearing it for awhile, but if you're going to take it off frequently, I didn't find it very comfortable to remove. The clip is easier to undo rather than moving it over your head because I liked wearing it tight so it wouldn't bounce around.
I ended up getting a larger one that I had plenty of room to work with. I use the sling pack for when I go to the firing range now. Works great for that!

It's cheap. It can hold 2 gis, shower kit, belt, towel, mouth guard, tape, protein shaker, 2 water bottles, and probably a bit more.
The only problem that I have with it is that the shoulder straps are able to snap on/off, so sometimes they snap off when the backpack is heavy and I'm putting it on. This isn't a huge problem and I'm much happier than with a shoulder strap gym bag.
Did you ever find a good bag you plan on using? I haven’t gotten one yet but was looking at this one as a cheaper option. Not sure how great it is but just thought I would share as all other options I have seen have been very expensive.

I use this. got it from a friend and repurposed it. tons of elastic loops, one zippered pocket and a deep open pocket. I carry a spool of kanthal, multiple juice bottles (probably close to 200 mils), cotton, an extra 18650, set of precision screwdrivers, plus my MVP. it gets a little crowded but keeps shit straight.
edit: I also keep a pair of small craft wire cutters in there, also. and a Tugboat.

Personally, I use a Seahorse for my portables. Way less money than a Pelican, but still has pick and pluck foam, rated for the same pressures, etc. Cheaper than the Amazon ones too.

Fellow IT guy here: I use the Condor Compact Assault Pack and some Eagle Creek pouches to keep everything organized. I also added a MOLLE water bottle pouch for hydration.
I also have to carry a bunch of tools since I work in ag, I could be working in a manufacturing plant the size of an NFL stadium - trips out to the car aren't really an option.

Effective, and compact so I don’t kick it while it’s under my desk at work.
That looks like a great bag. I might have to look into one. If I'm not carrying a plain boring duffel bag I usually have this. It has a ton of pockets and you can pack the shoulder straps entirely inside the bag (useful when gate checking). It has carry straps on both sides so you can lug it like a suitcase if necessary. I also really appreciate the extra chest strap that connects the two shoulder straps as it makes the bag much more stable on your back. I wouldn't use it as a hiking bag but I've used it on my motorcycle plenty and it's been great for airports. I've also never gotten a strange look from security for carrying a military style pack. I actually once went through security with a .22 round stuck in one of the folds of the bag (I take it to the range on occasion) and didn't notice it until the hotel.

The thing I'm trying to do is not make it look completly like a known batsuit for all the parts, but the final part will be something simple like a Batman morphsuit over the armor. The one part I am excited for is when I can get the belt. Thanks for the info, got any pouches you recommend for the inner top molle? What do you normally look for in a pouch? I have this admin pouch and this utility pouch. Would you say these are useful as an ifak?

Another decent cheapie is this one though I'd add a piece of padding at least to the bottom.
I've had people talk to me (while I was flying) about their discomfort with and suspicion of drones, but it was always in kind of broad terms, not that they specifically objected to what I was doing at the time (and they usually came away with a greater appreciation for them).
This was the first time I've had someone approach with clearly hostile intent, and I feel like I could probably have handled it better.
I can't believe how small the Mavic folds down to. I'm keeping it in my backpack in one of these.

Although it is huge compared to my laptop (T450s), the combination provides a tremendous amount of protection for my laptop and gives me a lot of extra storage for stuff I bring to school/work. It may be overkill, but I've had a lot of misfortune in the past when it comes to damaging my portable devices.
I did something similar, although I got the 3V Gear bag. If you do go this route, I recommend getting a Condor T&T pouch for it. It's great for cables and tools.

I carry my DSLR and gear often and especially when traveling. I always use a bag for this. I adopted some recent wisdom I found somewhere on Reddit. Use an inconspicuous bag. I bought a tan Jansport full size school bag and took some eggshell padding from packaging I had lying around for the days I haul a bulk load. I use a 3-day pack, which I've used since I deployed. I beat that thing like it owes me money and it still holds strong. I unfortunately can't find the exact model I use, but if I do I'll edit this post.

5.11 Rush Backpack. It has a bit of a tactical feel to it but if that's your taste, it's awesome. I have the Rush 12 but can imagine that a 24 would be more suitable for your usage.

I have one of these and so does my cousin for his insulin. I use it if i'm going to the fair or zoo or something where I'm going to be mobile all day. It'll hold a couple water bottles, phones, wallets, and basic shit like that.
I have a Vertx Gamut bag. It doesn't look overly tactical because the molle webbing it does have is hidden under the beaver tail or whatever they call it. I've been carrying in it for a year and a half no problems for days I feel like just wearing gym shorts and a tshirt. Has pockets for your pens and a laptop compartment inside the main bag as well.
The key to backpack carry is to never leave your bag in the room unattended. This was something I was doing anyway because I've always got my laptop on me and college kids have sticky fingers. If anyone questions why you're taking your backpack to the bathroom with you, just tell them you've got your laptop/ipad in there.
As far as mounting goes, I've got an Ohai holster from CrossBreed coming for christmas, but for the past year and a half I've just stuck a velcro patch on the side of a kydex holster I didn't like for AIWB.
