I prefer this simpler explaination

go fix it dust gets on the lens and you can clean it out with this
Wii classic controller. here
Yes, it is backwards compatible. You DO need a Wiimote however, and probably a nunchuck (thats the name of the joystick attachment) but i'm sure that can be fixed.
Nintendo had official ones from club nintendo that plugged into the wii remote but they're almost as much as an snes classic now :(. Here's a link if you're still interested.
My favorite mod for the gamecube controller
Can vouch for these. I have all 3 games on Wii with these with a few other light gun games. HotD 2 and 3 are hard as hell.
Really satisfies the light gun itch when I get it.
Is it really the naming schemes though? The Wii and WiiU Both had equivalent "Pro" controllers. I think for a lot of people when nintendo says "pro controller" it is assumed to be the non-gimmick controller.
Yep. Totally abandoned on Wii.
Here Nintendo Wii Remote Plus - White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0094X227I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_2rBDAbGCQG41Z
This is an update to a robot I posted previously. Since that post I integrated the motor encoders for use in the control loop, changed from the Arduino motor shield to Pololu's motor shield (it's MUCH better, at least in my application), and added a wireless Wii Nunchuck to control it.
I'm playing Skyward Sword on a launch Wii, so the one you bought 2 years ago will be fine. The black ones are newer models, but the difference is pretty much just the color. The only thing you'll need to do is make sure he either has a wii motion plus adapter or a Wiimote Plus. Skyward Sword requires the use of this controller because it utilizes more advanced motion controls than the original wii remotes. The nunchuck hasn't changed.
If you bought Wii Sports Resort, it should've come with a motion plus adapter, so he might already have one, in which case, you just need the game. That might even be what you're referring to when you say "motion adapter." I'm not really sure what that is from the context of your post, or the "hard mat thing," either, for that matter (balance board, maybe?).
The original Playstation controller is the most innovative controller in recent history. It was essentially an upgraded SNES controller, notice the d-pad opposite four multi-purpose buttons. The triangle, circle, square, cross are just Sony's answer to Nintendo's A,B,X,Y.
But it was innovative for 2-3 reasons. One, it added handles for your hands. The NES and SNES controllers, while epic, aren't exactly the most comfortable things to hold.
Secondly, it added two more triggers and, later, two analog sticks.
Today, every console has its own brand of the PS1 controller. The 360 controller, while admittedly more comfortable than the PS3 controller, is identical in button layout, just switch the d-pad and left analog stick.
Even the Wii has its own version in the classic controller PRO.
tl;dr Cock Spider
There are classic controllers for the wii though.
https://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-Pro-Black-Nintendo/dp/B002TLTBN0?th=1
Price of this one is absurd but that may be because of how old the wii is.
It's not, it's a PS2 controller. I can see why you'd think it's a Wii Classic Pro controller, but the shoulder buttons on the Classic pro are rounded, whereas the PS2's are much squarer, like these are.
You can also see the telltale slopes along the vertical axis that the PS2 controller has on it's back side, the Classic pro has more of a wave/dip along the horizontal axis.
Do you mean you bought the Wii U Pro Controller? Those aren't compatible with Wii Mode. The Classic Controller, and the Classic Controller Pro are what the games are referring to.
Wii Classic Controller (or the Classic Controller Pro, which I haven't used, but it looks more comfortable.) with one of these adapters. It plugs the classic controller directly in to USB, so no wiimote, bluetooth, glovePIE, etc is required. It even supports 2 controllers at once so you can co-op some Battletoads without having 2 adapters.
Grip handles? There were two models of the classic controller: the Classic Controller and the Classic Controller Pro. Those grips aren't detachable.
For Skyward Sword the original Wii controller is mandatory, swordplay in that game follows your own movement like sideslash, slashing up etc. As for the rest of these games, get a Classic controller. And yeah, try to find Xenoblade Chronicles first ;) It's spectacular.
Other games I would suggest (playable with a Pro controller):
You can get MH Tri on the Wii, but MH 3 Ultimate is a bit nicer to look at. Equally great though imo.
Awesome game, also for the Wii. Great to play with your daughter, if she likes that kind of games.
Very nice RPG's, very story-driven.
There are more of which I've heard good things like Tales of Syphonia, Arc Rise Fantasia and Muramasa, but I'm not in a position to recommend those cause I haven't played them :)
As for the Wii U, there are only a few big games out at the moment but they're all pretty great (so I hear). A must buy (as was for me at least, alongside MH3U) is Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. Colorful, atmospheric, awesome overall.
Edit: Of course I meant the Classic controller, not the Pro. Pro is for Wii U only. I have both and switched them up.
The official Nintendo ones can be pretty costly. It seems to be going for over $40 on Amazon.
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B002TLTBN0.01.lg.jpg
like this one?
You're not confusing the Wii U's Pro Controller that only works with specified Wii U games with a Wii Classic Controller Pro that works with the Wii and some Wii U games, are you?
that was just to browse the dev environment. they used a classic wii controller for that. perhaps it might be possible if there's ever homebrew, otherwise it's not officially supported from what we've heard.
Wii Remote Plus Available in all colors. 31.99 Save $8.
Same price at Best Buy if you have any reward certificates waiting to be used.
There's a number of them on the Wii that would tickle your fancy; House of the Dead: Overkill; Deadspace:extraction; There's Link's Crossbow Training (not sure how good it is, never managed to pick it up, it's universally trashed for not being a Zelda game but I've never heard a gameplay review). Sin and Punishment: Star Successor is kind of a hybrid lightgun shooter (you control the movement of your character with a nunchuck and can perform melee attacks). This is the gun I use ($60 Amazon LOL, you can find these in clearanece bins of used videogame stores), I really like it and hope it does me well for duckhunt. I just hope you can turn the cursor off.
>Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Smash bros with online, some people complain about the floatiness, doesn't bother me
Floating and tripping were the main two issues you'll hear any fan of Melee bring up. I agree entirely, to be honest. Tripping especially is a point of contention, as it's the one random element you can't remove (unlike stage selection, or items.)
As for my suggestions-
Ghost Squad- I play with this gun attachment because I am awesome. The game is 20 bucks pretty much everywhere, and it's a good enough shooter to warrant it.
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core- Absolutely fantastic 2d fighter
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom- See above, but add in characters you actually recognize.
Trauma Center (New Blood or Second Opinion, I recommend New Blood due to multiplayer.)- IS IT WATER ON THE KNEE? OPERATION. No, seriously, it's a surgery game played with the wiimote that can get real challenging real fast. Definitely recommended for you and a friend to tackle.
Wiiware
Contra Rebirth- ITS GOD DAMNED CONTRA
Megaman 9/10- Classic blue.
Try this one from amazon. Reviews say it's original.
This is the one I bought on german Amazon (Original Nintendo - it's a set of four, they are blue, green, white and pink).
As I have 4 controllers, this was a good deal (you have to pay shipping fees around 5€).
The Amazon picture is misleading btw. This is what you get if you order
Buy the Wii Cleaning Kit, or go to a videogame shop that has a disc polish machine, and ask them to polish the MK disc.
It sounds like the Wii Motion Plus isn't working right in your controller. There's an old accessory that adds it to a controller - but honestly your safest bet is to get an official Nintendo controller. You can get them refurbished from Nintendo's own store on the cheap.
Wii Sports Club is $40 for all 5 sports - two of them (Baseball and Boxing?) come bundled together. There's also a retail version, which should also MSRP for $40, but may be cheaper used. You could always try picking up the older Wii titles, Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, for less money. If you're looking specifically for moving-around games, WarioWare: Smooth Moves (also for Wii) or any of the Just Dance titles may be worth looking into.
EDIT: OH DUH, also Wii Fit/Wii Fit U. But those'll be extra pricey what with the balance board.
1.) Neither, You need to use either Wiimote (normal or plus), Wiimote+Nunchuk, or Wii Classic Controller (or CCPro). I recommend the Wii Classic Controller Pro. However, you can use the Gamepad as a screen for your Wii games.
2.) Seeing as you haven't played a game since the Gamecube era, and having no idea of what type of games you enjoy except SSB, I can barely recommend games, but: Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Sonic: Lost World, The Wonderful 101, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, New Super Mario Bros. U (and Luigi U), maybe Lego City: Undercover or Zombi U, and eventually Mario Kart 8.
3.) Injustice is a good game, though I believe the Wii U version doesn't have all the DLC/doesn't have the 'Ultimate Edition). Black Ops 2 is good if you enjoy Call of Duty post Modern Warfare 4. Neither games are 'elite/hardcore' in their respective genres (Fighting/FPS).
4.) I'd recommend the Wii U Pro Controller for most Wii U games that support it. There are some good Virtual Console titles on the Wii U eshop, like Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Megaman X, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Earthbound for SNES, and more recently Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Metroid Fusion, and Kirby & the Amazing Mirror for GBA, with Golden Sun, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Yoshi's Island coming in the next week.
The game pad turns off when you switch to Wii mode.
You will need the Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuck to play the classic Wii games but, the classic Wii remote will work as well if you already own that. In addition, I'd also recommend grabbing a classic controller if you plan on playing Wii games like Super Smash Bros Brawl as the Wii U Pro Controller will not work.
There is an official forum list here of compatible external hard drives, but I haven't put much of a dent in mine yet so, you may want to hold off.
Typical file sizes for older SNES games seem to be in the 20-30 MB range.
You should look into emulating it and playing it with a controller.
The Wii classic pro controller is great for those purposes:
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-Pro-Black-Nintendo/dp/B002TLTBN0
You'll need one of these to use it with a PC:
http://www.amazon.com/WII-CLASSIC-CONTROLLER-TO-USB-Nintendo/dp/B003711698
Nope! They're official. The [Classic Controller Pro] is basically classic controller 2.0 and was once produced by Nintendo.
You may be thinking of something like [This].
However, if I could find a CCP that plugs directly into the Wii console like a GCC, I would buy It in a heartbeat. o3o
A Wii Classic Pro controller, to be more precise
Switch pro controller question:
I wasnt the biggest fan of the Wii u pro controller, it always felt a bit big for me. I could use it no problem, but I would much prefer use the Wii pro classic controller.
Image : https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B002TLTBN0.01.lg.jpg
Do you think the switch pro controller will please me? Should I get it? Thanks
I love the controls however I have never used the normal Wii controls. I'm not sure if any of you have ever used it but I've used the classic controller from the very beginning.
I personally love the classic controls but have no opinion on the normal wii remote controls. What do you guys think?
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-Pro-White-Nintendo/dp/B0037US4IA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1407185292&sr=8-2&keywords=wii+classic+controller+pro

You'll have to get a brooks converter as well if you want to use this.
Dualshock 3 (With better DS3) is a good choice.
XBox One and XBox 360 Wired controllers work through USB with appropriate drivers straight from Microsoft.
This adapter with a Wii Classic Pro controller works well too (although Wii classics have gotten expensive.) Also works with this GC controller replica (and this one too.) Both of those are from reputable companies (Hori and PDP respectively.) There is a lot of demand for this stuff since Smash came out, so if this is your choice, I'd wait until after the holidays.
The XBox or DS3 controllers are better for modern games, but I absolutely stand by the Classic/Gamecube controllers for classic games and emulation.
The GamePad comes with the console and you must have one. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. The Pro Controller is optional. In multiplatform games it's generally really helpful because it's more comfortable than the GamePad. So, for example, the game Darksiders: Warmastered Edition - The GamePad has no added functionality. The screen just shows what the TV shows. The Pro Controller works just as well. However in games like ZombiU, the GamePad is used for inventory management and other things. The GamePad is the way to go in that case. The Pro Controller is really good but not useful in every case. For playing Wii games, you will need a Wii Remote and Nunchuk. The Wii U Pro Controller will not work for Wii Games. However, the Wii has its own Pro Controller. It works for many games. You can buy it here. The list of Wii games that support the Pro Controller can be found here.. (The Wikipedia page says Classic Controller, but the Classic Controller and the Pro Controller are the same. The Pro Controller is a more comfortable version of the Classic Controller.)
How does your computer run dolphin? If you haven't tried to run anything yet then you should do that to make sure that your computer is up to snuff for gamecube emulation.
The controller you want to use is this one right? If it is, all you need to do is connect the wiimote to your computer using something like glovepie, and then plug in and set it up that way. I dont use a mac, but this program looks like it would work.
yes. wii shop channel is fully functional on the wii mode. maybe you are unaware, but you can transfer any vc and wiiware titles from a wii console you may have. but if you mention buying a wiimote, then i would assume you dont have a wii.
just remeber a classic controller or a classic controller pro (NOT a pro controller) is needed to play n64 games in wii mode.
Nintendo absolutely has not always put the A to the far right.
The N64 controller looked like this (with the A button where it is on the Xbox, surprisingly!), the Gamecube looked like this while the Xbox was out, and the Wii looked like this while the Xbox 360 hit it big.
Xbox has kept the same controller layout across three generations, right up to the modern one. Nintendo went back to a layout they haven't had on home consoles since the SNES. Who's gonna have the muscle memory for a system from four generations and over 20 years ago?
Amazon has them new $59.99
Hoping it's legit - They were a limited release a while a go
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B004TL1K0A/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
All WiiU games and any Virtual Console games that are in the WiiU's eShop can be default be played 100% with the gamepad. If you want to play old Wii games you will most likely (99% of games) need a Wiimote and nunchuck. Based on personal preferences you can then opt for a Pro Controller to use with certain games if you want. For example, I played Hyrule Warriors exclusively with the Pro Controller even though I didn't have to, just 'cause.
This is not a very good deal. The wii remote it comes with is used, and after you subtract the cost of the fightpad and the ammibo they are charging you $32 for it.
You can get a new wii plus remote for $28 on Amazon
Let me give you a total rundown, to help you to make an informed decision. I'm in the UK, so I'm using UK links and GBP - if you're somewhere else, keep that in mind.
Option 1 - Wii:
Wii console with sensor bar and necessary cables etc.

You will be able to play Wii games. If you buy an original model with GameCube compatability, you will be able to play GameCube games as well (for which you will require GameCube controllers).
You can tell if any given Wii console is one such model by the presence of black GameCube controller ports on the top, like this one has https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nintendo-Wii-Console-Bundle-4-Games-Wires-Controller-and-Nunchuck/153243375233?hash=item23ae045681:g:vtIAAOSwhzhb3C7p:rk:27:pf:0
This one, on the other hand, does not: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nintendo-Wii-Console-Wii-Sports-Resort-Bundle-Free-Delivery-Batteries/132841925894?hash=item1eedfeed06:g:nuEAAOSwzHNb3DQb:rk:26:pf:0

The Wii no longer has an online shop, and for most intents and purposes, there is no online play anymore.

A Wii console, including sensor bar, cables, and one Wii Remote and Nunchuck, along with some games, looks like it will cost you around £20-70 on Ebay.

Option 2 - Wii U:
Wii U console (with Wii U Gamepad controller), sensor bar and necessary cables etc.

You will be able to play Wii U games as well as Wii games.
Most Wii U games still have online play, including Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon.
There is also an online eShop where you can purchase Wii U games digitally, although you can also still use physical discs. There's also a selection of Wii games available for digital purchase, as well as a variety of games from older retro consoles. Of course, discs are still an option.

A Wii U console, gamepad, sensor bar and cables, along with some games, looks like it will cost you around £100-£250 on Ebay.

Whichever of those you buy, you will still need those additional Wii Remotes and Nunchucks.
There are two types of Wii Remotes, as the other guy mentioned - original Wii Remotes and Wii Remotes with Wii Motion Plus. If a Wii Remote has Wii Motion Plus built-in, it will say "Wii Motion Plus" around the bottom of the front of the remote. These remotes are supposedly more accurate. There are some games, including The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Wii Sports Resort, that will not work if you do not have Wii Motion Plus remotes.
There are also Wii Remotes that take AA batteries, and Wii Remotes that do not take AA batteries, but have to be charged in a charging dock, which can be purchased for a further £10-15. Make sure you get the correct type - you can tell by looking at the back of the remote, if there is a detachable cover, it takes AA batteries, and if there are metal conductors and no detachable cover, it needs to be charged in a dock.
Note that there are knock-off, fake Wii Remotes. From what I've read, most of them work, but are lower quality in terms of feel, reliability and function, so I would recommend avoiding these if possible.
A legitimate Wii Motion Plus remote looks like this. It says "Wii Motion Plus INSIDE" in a semicircular shape around the bottom of the front of the remote.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Wii-Remote-Plus-Controller/dp/B009ACAK8G
Most fakes I've seen have that text look different, like this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACK-REMOTE-CONTROLLER-NUNCHUCK-FOR-NINTENDO-WII-WITH-BUILT-IN-MOTION-PLUS/162268894693?hash=item25c7fad5e5:g:YTIAAOSwKOJYHGov:rk:26:pf:0

Wii Motion Plus remotes will cost you around £20-45 each. Normal, non Motion-Plus remotes will cost around £5-15 each. You can use a combination of Motion Plus and normal remotes if you so please.
A nunchuck will cost you around £5-15 each too, but often come bundled more cheaply with remotes.

In short, an old Wii will be considerably cheaper, and depending on the model you can get, you may be able to play GameCube games too. However, the old Wii does not have online functionality and cannot play Wii U games, unlike the more expensive Wii U.
All in all, a Wii U with accessories including 4 official Wii Motion Plus remotes and nunchucks might cost around £270. That's assuming £150 for the Wii U console, gamepad, sensor bar, chargers and display cable, £90 for 4 Wii Motion Plus remotes and £30 for 4 nunchucks.
A Wii with accessories including 4 official Wii Motion Plus remotes and nunchucks might cost around £130. That's assuming £50 for the Wii console, display cable, charger, sensor bar, Wii Remote and a Nunchuck, and then £60 for 3 Wii Motion Plus remotes and £20 for 3 nunchucks.
Those prices and the value of a purchase may vary widely, however, depending on what's for sale at the time, and what games are bundled in.

If you find anything and you're not sure if it's what you wanted, chuck me a link and I'll take a look.

I hope this helps :)

Lots of wireless controllers work on the Steam Link, even some third party controllers. The Steam Link supports all kinds of Bluetooth controllers and even controllers with USB dongles. The Xbox 360 wired controller works right out of the box. The wireless controllers work too, but you need the USB wireless receiver. The same is true with Xbox One controllers. The Bluetooth XB1 controllers work right out of the box. I tested my Afterglow AP.2 PS3 controller (USB dongle, has rechargeable battery built in) on it and it works brilliantly once you map the buttons.
I couldn't get my PowerA Mini Pro Elite Wii U controller to work, but that thing refuses to sync to ANYTHING except the Wii U. I could never figure out why.
https://www.amazon.com/Remote-Controller-Nunchuk-Bundle-Nintendo/dp/B00MXS4X2I/ref=mp_s_a_1_16?crid=ZZB4WV0FWX25&keywords=wii+controller&qid=1550927630&s=gateway&sprefix=wii&sr=8-16
Controller and nunchuck for $12 free shipping!
There's the attachment from Link's Crossbow Training.
http://www.amazon.com/Official-Wii-Zapper-Crossbow-Training-Nintendo/dp/B000W5Y49G/
I don't remember getting them from one place in particular, although I would recommend the Nyko wireless kama as being both cheaper and better than a nunchuck
Lets see here:
I think those are all the components not including miscellaneous electronics, and 3d printed parts
http://frank-zhao.com/cache/nunchuk_mouse_joystick.php + http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Wireless-Kama-Wii-Nintendo/dp/B0012R58LG should do the trick, I have the code for the USnooBie platform, I can do it with the Teensy too but I don't have the code
This price isn't terrible.
It's because your wii's disk reader is old, probably dusty or something. I had the same problem which was fixed by replacing the boot.elf file with an older project m version's boot.elf. This works because in the older versions, it didn't take you back to the wii menu, it just lets you try again. You could do that or fix the wii by buying this but it's sort of expensive.
Edit: Where you can download older versions of project m: https://sites.google.com/site/sapphiredragon77/SapphireDragon/projectm-mirror
Wii Remote plus (with motion plus built in) is $35. A nunchuck is $12.
I don't know a single game that requires a classic controller.
> Some soft-ass Millennials are gonna get arthritis for Christmas.
Fortunately they used the same plugs as the [Wii Classic controller] (https://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-nintendo/dp/B000IN0BSU/ref=pd_sim_63_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=41SKjuShldL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL320_SR268%2C320_&psc=1&refRID=ZXT8DZ4F1ZSZFRVGJR4X) or Wii Classic controller Pro so you can use that instead of gouging your hands.
I usually just play on my Wii U, but I bought an adapter for the wii classic pro controller, it's my favorite controller for all my games. http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-Pro-Black-Nintendo/dp/B002TLTBN0/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1397574145&sr=1-1&keywords=wii+classic+pro+controller
This is the adapter I bought http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0089O4EB0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Most other people prefer the gamecube controller for smash though. See /u/baldbutt 's comment for that though c:
The classic controller can be used for every Wii VC title, so you can use the classic controller for OOT and Majora's Mask and all of the NES, SNES, and N64 titles on the Wii VC.
(I prefer the [classic controller pro] (http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-Pro-Black-Nintendo/dp/B002TLTBN0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398710109&sr=8-1&keywords=classic+controller+pro).)
Best bet for playing TP without motion control is playing it on Gamecube.
Have you tried SS? The motion control is beautiful, best use of it on the system, 1:1 movement of the sword. Could be wrong, but I don't think there is any way to play it without the motion control.
Keep in mind that everything lacking a "Wii" logo in the top center of the controller is a knockoff and is probably garbage.
If you want a Classic Controller, you want to buy one of these two:
Black
White
They're just referring to these:
Classic Controller
Classic Controller Pro
They're just controllers made for the Wii's Virtual Console, but they plugged into the Wii remote itself to make it wireless.
The ones that plug into the wiimotes are called wii classic controller pro. The ones that are wireless/usb are pro controllers
I use this & this for all my gaming needs, both retro and non....
...and the only issue i've ever had with it is that the driver can cause a BSOD if you constantly plug and unplug the device. Also, you have to have the controller plugged in before you plug in the device itself...
...maybe that's just issues with this device, but it's something to keep in mind...
Most people probably won't agree (or didn't even know it was possible), but Wii Classic Controller/Classic Controller Pro with the Mayflash converter is another option. If you get the Classic Controller Pro with Mayflash, it actually comes out a little cheaper than the 360 controller.
That being said, there are some conversion issues which require some other programs to work with. Still, it's a nice controller.
I like the Classic Pro controller.

> Is there a good controller with the layout of a pro but the joystick of a GC?
The Wii Classic Pro controller is the best controller design ever IMO. It has GC joysticks on the bottom, a good D-pad, and the face buttons feel great.
Unfortunately, it's one of the ones that awkwardly plugs into the Wii remote. If it was a standalone like the Wii U Pro controller it would be amazing.
what was said about being interpreted literally, but for the shape as well.
What I think a more realistic version of this would look like is a cell phone, in the shape of a classic controller pro, with 2 thumb pads similar to the 3ds's. I personally think it's an awesome idea.
Add these together then put the zelda pic on it.:

Definitely get that one, it's perfect for MH
I would argue Nintendo made an even better controller than the gamecube that gets overlooked far too often.
Wii Classic Controller Pro
I played XBC1 on the Wii using one of these controllers. It was a pleasant experience.
Buying XBC1 on the WiiU eShop and playing it with the GamePad would be a less expensive option.
Nope it's a bit more complex than that.
List of "Classic" controllers:
You have to either emulate, buy a GameCube controller or buy a Wii Classic Controller.
You can, but in my experience it's a bit of a hassle. I tried it on two computers, and the one that previously had motioninjoy installed on it just refused to work with the Toshiba bluetooth stack as explained here. The other one worked fine and I tried out some emulators. The controller GUI is very barebones, and I suspect the OP of the gbatemp thread has jumped ship as the current version has remained at 1.6 for some time now.
For me personally, I find the Wii Classic Controller Pro and PC adapter to be more comfortable and much more easily configured. No wireless, but I don't mind.
well, it's not COMPLETELY nonmotion but this is as close as I think you'll get.
EDIT: there are some things you cannot do with this remote (like browse wii store, message boards etc) and I really shouldn't have mentioned it not having 'all the facts' I just know it's worked for me and it might work for you.

Wii controller classic.
why does everyone always forget this has existed since Brawl and is a pretty damn good controller too
Make sure you have both a wiimote AND a Wii Classic Controller (this or this)
You're Welcome
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0037US4IA
You do realise you can get an actual controller got the Wii right?
That already exists officially from Nintendo if you're interested.

This new version of a wiimote would really help encourage me to wii dance more (and be less frustrated when it lies about whether I did a move) as well as we would have two wiimotes so I could play with my BF! =D
Sorry, if I wasn't clear. The console itself comes with the tablet, the gamepad is completely optional, and most games want you to have one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Wii-Remote-Plus-Black/dp/B0094X28J0/ref=sr_1_4?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1396401930&sr=1-4&keywords=wii+remote
I don't remember if it came with any, or how many, because I bought it at launch. But really, Wiimotes are all you need for multiplayer. Those and games.
edit: Oh and for the ps4 and xbone games that aren't available for the Wii U, Ubisoft is avoiding it and said that Watch Dogs may be the last one, you can only have a cinematic experience in Assassins Creed Unity with other consoles. We also won't have Call of Duty any more.No minecraft and something that I actually miss is the last FIFA we had is 13. So a bunch of games are available for ps4 and xbone but not for the Wii U, I would go even further and say most of these consoles games aren't on the Wii U. But hey almost all of the best games of the Wii U are exclusives too.
The Wiimote Plus Luigi controller will be available for purchase tomorrow. http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Remote-Plus-Luigi-Nintendo/dp/B00FLYZIM0/

Here's my setup
Yes, yes, I know, I have a CRT instead of a flat screen TV. If you'd also notice, I play more old consoles than new and CRT is superior to flat screen for them (and much cheaper). Ideally I'll be upgrading to a small (~20") Sony Trinitron. The 32" ones are free and widely available but they're sooooo big and heavy.

Just got a Wii motion sensor bar so I can play light gun games on my PC and use the WiiMote as a remote control. Also thinking about racing games with the steering wheel attachment. Monitors are from Craigslist ($35 and $10 respectively). CRT was a gift from a friend. It's dying though (discoloration). Pre-amp and speakers were also gifts from friends. PC and consoles I bought myself.
Smash, Kart, and Rayman legends support the widest range of controllers.
If you think your co-workers would fair better with more traditional controllers --- the Pro Controllers are the closest fit. They are a fairly expensive but also have a nearly 80 hour battery life. In games that support it, pro controllers can usually be used interchangeably with the gamepad (screen controller).
On the other end of the spectrum, the wii mote is cheaper, has less buttons (primarily used for simple games), includes pointer / motion controls, and requires batteries.
Some games will require the nunchuck addon; alternatively, a classic controller addon provides support similar to the pro above.
All games will list controller compatibility on the back of the box (or info page on sale sites).
It'll get mixed up with the Wii drool. Maybe we can heat it up with some ham and make Hot Ham Water.
the Wii Zapper is the default one. personally, i'd get this bundle that comes with a zelda training game cuz it looks like it could kill some hours

I apologize but I can't take the picture right now because I am not at home. I can definitely get it to you with a couple days though. How much in addition to the wii were you thinking? Ill list the accessories I have:
-2 Wii controllers
-All wires (power, tv cable, sensor bar)
-Two guns like this
-Wii sports
-Wii Play
-Mario Kart
-Some hunting game
-Pikmin 2 (for gamecube, honestly an amazing game)
I picked up two Perfect Shots for those arcade-style games. They were incredibly worth it, especially since they were $20 or less for quite some time.
Is this it?
This is the one I had
Yup. This and this are the ones I have. Don't have to worry about it coming out etc...do need a wiimote that's got motion plus built in, or have to mod your motion plus to let the base clip in.
It's a good suggestion, but I went already in all game stores where I live, I can't find a single strap without need to buy the whole Wiimote. JanS19 find a link in Amazon.de with original Nintendo straps, 4 pcs set.
I read somewhere than there are three version of the Nintendo wrist strap (first is the weaker, last the stronger). So I prefer bet on the better strap I can find, for the Vive.
Amazon has them as prime eligible.
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Remote-Wrist-Strap-Nintendo/dp/B001EX1MWC/ref=sr_1_5?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1462378344&sr=1-5&keywords=nintendo+wii+straps
This looks like it may be the genuine article. The manufacturer is listed as Nintendo which is promising. I've just ordered two which means there are probably only 10 left:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-2111666-Remote-Wrist-Strap/dp/B001EX1MWC
http://www.amazon.de/gp/B001EX1MWC
The straps for 4,65€ are not original (as stated in the details) but you can try the one for 5.62€+3€ postage. I paid 7€ with postage and got genuine straps.
If you don't mind the colors, I can send you the white and pink ones from my package. Send me a pm if interested.

Your Wii's lens is dirty. Try a Wii lens cleaning kit. Not sure how good these work because i made a homemade one but your problem is definitely a dirty lens.
This is what I have. It's not a homemade solution, but it works well.
you could try this or this
Unfortunately not. That one kept coming up when I've been searching for it. The shape is more like a Nintendo Wii nunchuk.
Nintendo Nunchuk Controller - Black (Wii) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00293IKQC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_UucODbB5MNN5K
The motion plus adapters appear to be slightly cheaper in the long run, but I would just buy refurb from Nintendo.
Official adapters from Nintendo on amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Motion-Plus-Black-Packaging-Nintendo/dp/B002OL1KEI/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1404279418&sr=8-6&keywords=wii+motion+plus+adapter

The wii-motes will work just fine in every game that doesnt require motion plus. A game that shows this well is nintendoland, 2 of the games require motion plus, but all the others work fine without it. Motion plus is also available as an accessory so you wont have to buy completely new controllers, it usually costs about 5-10 bucks.

thx for the answer tho forgot to say pro controller my bad
The pro controller doesn't use sockets -- unless you mean USB in which case it is a different socket. The classic controller pro does use the Wiimote socket.
hahaa So confusing. Wow.
So would this be the right combination?

The Wiimote and Nunchuk say WiiU on the box, but the controller says Wii. Is this right?
Ahhh, I see. What you're referring to as the classic controller others are saying is the pro controller.
Apparently, this is the classic controller and the one you are showing is called the classic controller pro.
Ah, for a second I thought it worked without the Wiimote. If it still has to be plugged in, how is it any different than the Wii Classic Controller Pro? Amazon has them for $15.
Edit: In retrospect, I see you have the Wii Wireless Retro Controller, which does work like I thought, but you linked to the wired version, presumably because the wireless version is out of stock.
This looks like all the fan mock-ups of the controllers....
So either the fans just guessed right, or it's faked... It seems hard to believe they would make it look that way.
Then again, same shape as the Pro, huh? http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-Pro-Black-Nintendo/dp/B002TLTBN0/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1303679077&sr=8-7
Yeah. It's even advertised that way

My friend has that and loves it. Personally though, a GC controller feels much more awkward to use than a PS2 controller. When I'm emulating an N64 on my computer, I usually use a 360 controller or a Logitech Gamepad (which is styled after the PS2 controller). So on the physical system, the PS2->N64 adapter here seems like it would be much nicer (and more familiar) for me than using a GC controller...
That said, the original Wii Pro controller is a fantastic middle-ground between GC and PS2, better than either one really; I'd love to find an adapter for using one of those instead!
These are the ones I found (theyre german but its just for the pics)

I actually just borrowed melee from a friend! And I've been playing smash bros since the n64 version, but I've never actually owned a nintendo console until now. Now my problem is that I don't have any gamecube controllers. Is the Classic Controller Pro any good for smash bros? I also see some used gamecube controllers for $14, so I might just go with that.
You can use the Wii Classic Controller (https://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-Pro-Nintendo-Standard/dp/B002TLTBN0/?th=1), but that's all I know about the VWii. Even with the adapter, GCN controllers won't work on the VWii. If you want more controller options, see if the game is available on the Wii U EShop. Good luck.
This
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B002TLTBN0.01.lg.jpg
It's a "Wii Classic Controller Pro".
Sorry for not being specific enough xD
Do you think it will work?
Go to target and/or gamestop etc and buy the Classic Wiimote Controller. It plugs into the standard wiimote, but give you all that same buttons as the PS3 remote. This is what I use
When you have it, just plug it up to the wiimote, then turn on the Wii Remote control app. It should find it no problem, it will say "Classic Controller detected!" Hit a couple of button and you should see that it's registering.
Edit: Make sure its the official Nintendo Wii Classic controller, it will have the Wii logo on the front. I bought a cheap one off of Amazon and it didn't work at all.
My controller of choice is the Wii Classic Controller Pro. The face buttons can take a bit of getting used to, but the sticks are really nice and have the same octagon gates, it feels good to hold, and the shoulder buttons are worlds better than the GC's shoulder buttons. The GC's shoulder buttons are the sole reason I can never use that controller
edit: this thing https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B002TLTBN0.01.lg.jpg Not the wii u pro controller
The "Classic Controller Pro", right? Not the WiiU "Pro Controller"?
Wii U Pro Controller,
Wii Classic Pro Controller, or the
Wii U Smash Wireless GC Controllers
I highly recommend these three if you can't find the adapter and if you want to be comfortable to play SSB then the three that I mention will do but if you want to use the controllers with other games then I highly recommend the Wii U Pro since the controller is mostly compatible with other games.
They may be referring to the Classic Controller Pro-
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B002TLTBN0.01.lg.jpg
Unless I'm mistaken, my all-time favourite controller isn't pictured: The Wii Classic Pro
I honestly would have thought it impossible to improve on the SNES controller for playing SNES games, but they managed it.
If you want a good aftermarket controller, get the generic brand Classic Pro Controller. If you want to make sure you get the official Nintendo version, that one's Here..
The Classic Pro is fantastic for what you want to do, since GC controllers are not yet compatible. Personally, at this stage I'd rather just wait two months so I can play using a GC controller, but keep in mind that it has not been announced whether the GC adapter will work in the Wii menu through the Wii U.
There are a number of controller made by Nintendo for both systems.
Wii:
Wiimote + Nunchuk
Wii Classic Controller
Wii Classic Controller Pro
Wii U:
Wii U Gamepad
Wii U Pro Controller
All are made by Nintendo. Just what I could think of off the top of my head, I may be missing some for either system.
On Amazon you can get a Wii Remote and a Wii Classic Controller Pro for about $35. It's a little clunky to have two things connected together, but it works well and the controller is nice.
I'm guessing they wanted to draw the Wii with the Classic Controller.
8bitdo bluetooth controller adapter + Wii Classic Controller Pro
The only way to play. best d-pad I've used out of any controller.
It really depends on how much quality you demand. I for myself was never happy with knockoffs and always bought (and still buy) original controllers, no matter for which platform. Especially for the Wii there are sometimes promotions in local stores, i.e. I got a Wii Classic Controller Pro for 18 € in a local store. That’s pretty decent and I also use it to play games in DeSmuME.
You'll need the Wii Remote anyway (the Wii U's Pro controller doesn't work for Wii games either). This is the controller I was talking about that you'd need for the VC games.
Personally, I'd recommend you get all 3 (Wiimote, Nunchuck, and Classic Controller), but if you can't then the one you get will depend on which games you'd rather play.
How about this? Unless you meant the actual gamecube controller, in which case best bet would be to try off ebay, or go to Amazon and get them used. You could try this used, but idk if it's guaranteed to be a Nintendo brand and not off brand. Regardless, the chance is only about $15.
Careful, those are probably knock-off, and might be bad quality. For the best experience, I'd stick with Nintendo (though used should be fine too, as long as it's first party).
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-nintendo/dp/B000IN0BSU
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-Pro-White-Nintendo/dp/B0037US4IA/ref=pd_sim_vg_2
I tried using the Wii classic controller to play brawl the other day so I could get used to the feel of what a 3DS would be like. I was just using the default controls, so X was jump, A was attack and B was special. I need to rebind I think because I just couldn't get my head around jump, I would move my thumb right and just press A to jump.
So someone hits me off a platform and then my guy just goes punch as he glides to his doom. So the tiniest change of keys messed up my play pretty bad.
That same day I tried Super smash flash for the first time, with the awkward as heck U I O P keys. I picked it up almost instantly. What the heck brain. I guess muscle memory was really screwing me over xD
I know this is over $13 but its only by .20 more because there's a sale on the item.

This newer model of the classic controller is a lot easier on the hands. I know my Smash Bros.-playing friends love it to death.
If you were a virgin on both consoles, I would say 3DS just for simplicity sake; but since you already own a 3DS, I think the wii is a good choice.
Just like Dominic4523 said, make sure it is one of the backwards compatible models if you plan to play gamecube games.
Also, you need to know that you will need a lot of stuff to fully enjoy what the wii has to offer.
You need a wiimote + nunchuck for most wii games. Some will only need the wiimote, but most will need you to have both, for every player too.
If you plan to play gamecube games, you'll need a gamecube controller and a gamecube memory card to save your progress. Those games are not playable with the wiimote.
Last, if you plan to get virtual console games, you'll need a classic controller model 1 or model 2; and also, the wii shop channel will not be selling points starting next Monday March 26th, so you'll have to check the store asap for potential purchases.
If after knowing all that you still want a wii, go for it, but it is definitely way easier to just got a new 3DS.
Are you talking about the Wiimote + nunchuk, specifically?
Wii also supported Gamecube controllers and the Classic Controllers
I'd love to see this integrated with other forms of controllers.
Imagine an archery sim where the strain you put on your bowstring directly translates into the game.
Some sort of a wii controller where pulling the controller "halves" apart translates into something like transforming from vehicle to mech, bringing up a pda menu.
Well it does
You are gonna want to get wii motes with wii motion plus (you can see the writing on the bottom, this controller contains a 2nd accelerometer making the controller more accurate for games like Skyward Sword. Also there might be new re-branded controllers that say Wii U)
Next we got the Pro-controller which is a next-gen like controller. It is similar to an x-box controller except for the buttons are configured nintendo style(SNES, 3DS, ect.) while having both analog sticks on the upper parts of the controller. I plan on grabbing 1 or 2 of these.
Then there is the gampad which you already have because it comes with the system.

I use this one to play mario maker on my wiiu and I love it, I have never had a problem with it.
It's going to be cool using the SNES controllers on the NES Classic. I do feel bad for the people who dropped $70+ on the Club Nintendo Super Famicom controller.
https://www.amazon.com/Club-Nintendo-Super-Famicom-Classic-Controller/dp/B004TL1K0A/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1498919727&sr=8-8&keywords=nintendo+club+controller
Looks like they're using similar (slightly smaller) packaging as the Japanese exclusive Nintendo Club controller.
There was even an official SNES controller that was available as part of club nintendo: https://www.amazon.com/Club-Nintendo-Super-Famicom-Classic-Controller/dp/B004TL1K0A/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1503322075&sr=1-1&keywords=snes+wii It's kind of expensive now, but it certainly was possible to use real controllers.
And right now on my WiiU I'm able to play NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, and WiiU games with homebrew. You can also head to eBay to pick up a SNES controller that plugs into Wii remotes (or Amazon, apparently... wow) to play SNES games the way they were meant to be played. It's a golden age.
It fits the controllers fine. I have the club nintendo super famicom wii controller (https://www.amazon.com/Club-Nintendo-Super-Famicom-Classic-Controller/dp/B004TL1K0A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505507544&sr=8-1&keywords=club+nintendo+snes+controller) and use it as a second controller for my nes classic and it fits in the case. The foam sort of molds around the sides of the controller since it is slightly wider than an nes controller. I would imagine the snes would fit as well though the cutout may not be exactly perfect. That foam kind of molds around stuff though so it would probably work fine if they don't release a new one and the snes classic is the same size or slightly larger. If it was smaller it might flop around but I doubt it is smaller.

It depends on what games you want to play.
The old school Wii Remote and Nunchuck will work on many multiplayer games and are also necessary for playing any Wii games
However, if you want to play Wii U games, you can also choose the Wii U Pro Controller. (which can NOT be used when playing original Wii games. Only for Wii U titles)
I have found that owning one of these isnt necessary, I have been able to get by with 4 players on my Wii U using only the supplied gamepad and 4 old Wii motes (nintendo land, mario kart, mario bros can all work with the old wii motes).
It's also probably worth mentioning that this is a Wii subreddit, and your question relates to a Wii U.
I don't mind one bit...but you know what people can be like :)
the old Wii remotes were upgraded towards the end of the life of the original Wii, so if you plan on getting Wii remotes, make sure you get the Wii Remote Plus models, to ensure you can use them on everything (some games require the added "Plus" functionality to work)
The 2 remotes and nunchuks are most likely the launch models and are fine for almost all games. They will definitely work with Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros for Wii U.
For Wii Sports Club and Nintendo Land though you'll want to buy either a Wii Motion Plus which will plug into your normal remote or a Wii Remote Plus which would serve as another controller.
$40 in my country
Cheapest I can find is for $35 on Amazon or Target
I would refrain from buying 3rd party controllers. They're usually much worse in quality. If they work with a wii then they should work work with Dolphin and the Dolphinbar aswell.
But you can get original used wiimotes on amazon for like 25 bucks.
Also: Wiimotes use AA batteries not AAA. That was a mistake on my part.
You don't get 2 gamepads, you get a different controller for 2 players! You can use a wiimote (which you may already have), or a Pro controller for this.

No, it doesn't. The Motion Plus adds a gyroscope for finer control in games. If your IR is sketchy, and the accelerometer is breaking, it would be best to just replace the wii remote.

This is one of the cheaper options I've found. The first party options made by Nintendo go for around 30 USD at Gamestop.
Will I be able to pair this to my PC?
I want to do some Wii emulation and I know you can pair a regular Wiimote but dunno about a "Wii U" branded Wiimote

Wasn't too bad... until the wii remotes. If your stand is going to be worth ~$80 (source), why not get something a little more durable than cardboard?
Zak's Videogame Shack on Amazon is legit. His is the first used listing for Wii Remotes with Motion Plus here: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/offer-listing/B00N4OAELY
I've personally bought one of them from him as well as a Pro Classic controller, Wii U Pro controller, Nunchuk controller, and Gamecube Wavebird, and all were in great cosmetic shape and 100% working order. His prices are also very solid.
looks like a "gamestop brand" version of the wii's classic controller pro

Hey so i just bought this one https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Wii-Remote-Plus-Black-U/dp/B0094X28J0 and it's not rvl-CNT-01 it's rvl-CNT-01-TR. Do you have a link to a rvl-CNT-01 one because I've been having trouble finding one.
Do yourself a favor and pick up one of these:

You'll thank me later: it's the only controller properly suited for playing Xenoblade 1
I'm pretty sure that's what it does when the controller is unsupported. I'm almost certain the n64 games only work with the classic controller pro , not the plain classic controller. But the pro seems to be quite hard to find, at least around where I live.
When I saw it at GS, it was clear to me that it wasn't a Wii U Pro Controller, but an all-in-one Classic Controller that didn't require you to tether to a Wiimote.
I upvoted you because I guess a lot of people must be confused by this, but I never for a moment thought this was supposed to be a Wii U Pro Controller.

It's been a "Pro" controller for the Wii much longer than it has for the Wii U.
I don't think it's misleading at all. Look at the box. It clearly states:
And it also has bluetooth and works with Android.
It also clearly states on their website:

>The Controller Pro U does not function as a Nintendo Pro Controller.
to expensive if i dont have a wii.. i need

Pfft hardly. Get a real controller.
