Looks like it's bugging out and applying the 20% off Twice. Discount applies at checkout!

YMMV as it may not apply twice to everything.

This is already posted on Slickdeals so you better look fast if you want to get anything good before they clean everything out.

Because I'm bored and do this for a living I'm going to put together an alt build for you:

Nice entry level Skylake gaming Mobo (I've used this, it's nice, has USB 3.1 which will be very helpful in the coming years for data transfers)

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Gaming-Skylake-Motherboard-H110M/dp/B01B4U47E4/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486579857&sr=1-2&keywords=lga+1151

Processor: G440

https://www.amazon.com/Intel-BX80662G4400-Pentium-Processor-FCLGA1151/dp/B015VPX05A

RAM (only 8GB but get 16 if you can afford another $40 or so)

https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-HyperX-2133MHz-Non-ECC-HX421C14FBK2/dp/B00TY6A1P0/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486579959&sr=1-5&keywords=DDR4

Video card:

RX 470 OC edition, I like this card great bang for the buck:

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Radeon-RX-470-ARMOR/dp/B01N3TCNNW/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486580034&sr=1-1&keywords=RX+470+4gb

SSD: budget one, but way better than a spinning drive:

https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-240GB-Internal-SP240GBSS3S55S25AE/dp/B01M61OWRI/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486580111&sr=1-1&keywords=240gb+ssd

Power supply:

no reason to spend more with this build:

https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Warranty-Power-Supply-100-N1-0400-L1/dp/B00LV8TZAG/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486580138&sr=1-1&keywords=400+watt+power+supply

Case:

https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-VERSA-Micro-Gaming-Computer/dp/B01CLIZ698/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486580162&sr=1-5&keywords=micro+atx+case

total cost of build is roughly:

Mobo ($70)

CPU ($60)

GPU ($170)

RAM ($70)

SSD ($60)

PSU ($30)

Case ($40)

So total is roughly $500 and with this build you have a great upgrade path, which you won't have at all with the one you proposed.

u/BigisDickus · 7 pointsr/gaming

CPU

Mother Board

GPU

8GB of RAM

1TB HDD for way more storage space then a console. You could drop the storage space to match a console and save a bit of money, but we won't do that.

PSU Cheaper/lower wattage for this build is possible, but it's better not to skimp

Disk drives are dying out and everything is going digital. Even consoles are showing massive growth in direct game purchases and downloads from PSN/XBL. But here it is if you want one.

Here's a few cases 1 2 3 4. Pick your case based on style, USB ports, whatever. All of those are 30 dollars or less and are mATX, meaning smaller form factor.

So now peripherals. Need a monitor? No you don't, plug it in to your TV. HDMI just like a console and consoles don't come with displays. You might have a monitor already.
Controller/input devices? PCs can use the old controllers you have laying around. Here's a keyboard and mouse recommendation anyway if you want one or don't already own them since most people own a computer for stuff outside gaming. That costs around half the price of an OEM console controller and KB+M is a more accurate input method. Controllers are a comfort thing and are best suited for driving games, but point and click with a high DPI sensor is much more intuitive and accurate than a controller with bad input filtering and clunky auto aim. Microsoft tried cross platform and keyboard and mouse destroyed gamepad/controller players. The only real cross platform right now is Rocket League because controllers are the better input method for driving so it's equal footing. But if you're playing Rocket League on PC, you load in faster. You'll be sitting on an empty field while you wait for other players to connect before the countdown and stuff starts, kinda neat. Also, that one I recommended has a button to change DPI/sensitivity on the fly, no need to bother with settings menus. Seamlessly go from sniping to roaming to driving. The keyboard is back lit and has a few color options.

Operating system? GNU/Linux is free and is getting more and more gaming support every day. It's not as hard as people make it out to be. Get a basic/user friendly distro like Ubuntu and all you really have to do is install. If you're a masochist, a developer, or a masochistic developer get a tougher distro like Gentoo. Funny thing as well, games with Linux support run better on Linux since it's such a great operating system on the software level. SteamOS is also free. Want Windows? Download the OS and put it on a disk or flash drive, install it on the new computer and enter the product key. Where do you get a product key? Don't buy it from a big box retail store for 100 bucks or likely more, you're getting gypped. You can buy 100% legit product keys online. r/microsoftsoftwareswap sells them for 20-25$ and the keys are straight from Microsoft

Also, all of those listings are from Amazon and are Amazon Prime eligible (for the other guy that replied to you that wants to complain about rebates/shipping/living next to a MicroCenter). You can find a lot of those parts cheaper and/or with free shipping. I recommend NewEgg. So you can do even better than the price I'm about to give you (which also means you can get better hardware for better performance):

Here's the itemized list with the prices: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/QBVRNG

$448.51 total for a PC that is massively better than current gen consoles. Drop the unnecessary DVD drive and the keyboard+mouse combo and the PC itself comes in at $402.93.

So... brand new parts from a large online retailer with a great support system. You can get even better deals on the parts if you checked other great online retailers like NewEgg. Ten years ago consoles absolutely made sense, but now leaps in hardware design have made better hardware cheaper and the tables have turned.

Does that "come close without cheating"?

Here's a few more kickers now that we have the hard price set:

AMD and Nvidia are about to launch a new line of GPUs, meaning current prices will drop (better performance at lower cost on that build I just gave you) and AMD is specifically focusing on lower/mid range market with higher performance and efficiency. It's going to be great for mainstream gaming rigs.

PC gaming is usually cheaper over time because Intel/Nvida/AMD don't charge development fees (they can't), neither can EVGA/ASUS or whoever makes the parts, neither can Microsoft. Steam takes a cut, but so do stores like GameStop. Stuff like that is why Steam can have massive sales consoles can only dream of and the developers can still profit from a sale. The only reason PC games are 60 dollars like their console equivalents is because it's the standard and they can "get away with it" (especially if you're Microsoft trying to expand Windows 10 and not alienate XBox), but they can make the same or more per sale at a lower cost.

PCs also have the largest game library of any platform and the massive free to play library that comes with it as well. And it's really free, not 'pay 50 a year for a subscription and get to play a game for a month' free

PC is, in theory, forever backwards compatible. Want to play CoD4? Don't shell out the money for Infinite Warfare, just install CoD4 and play on the servers PC still hosts. Games that came out upwards of 10 years ago can still be installed and run with no issue.

You don't have to double spend. No buying a console and a computer for work/school. Put your 300 dollar home computer and 400 dollar console prices together and you made a huge leap in budget to built a killer PC. You also get a much more versatile platform capable of running much more stuff and you get so much more control over your experience.

These last few days I've put together a couple more Ryzen hackintoshes after having done this post last year, with those computers (after being run almost 24/7/365) going stable and strong. Went with budget options this time around and figured to make a short followup.

Pictures lol, with water bottle for scale

Technically I made two of them (and split The RAM in two -- it came 2x8, maybe if RAM gets cheap I'll reunite them and buy another 2x8 kit).

I did this mostly to be able to process my inefficient, shitty scripts in less time -- beside the two older computers, I have intermittent access to a bunch of dual xeon Mac Pros, but wanted something a bit more for exclusive use. I probably could have gone even cheaper but wanted to get (essential) hardware identical to the old builds so that I might be more familiar with everything during installation, as it was an already solved problem (and took me a few hours the first go around). As such, hardware assembly only took me maybe an hour thirty, with another hour of getting the OS up and running (and kexts installed, etc.).

The case was chosen for its small size -- while it was a bit more of a hassle to work in than the 'Define C's, it has a much smaller height and footprint. Unfortunately, this means I can't fit a bigger cooler in -- after briefly considering a 120mm AIO, I decided to just use the stock Wraith Spire and give it a less aggressive overclock (I also haven't figured out yet how to monitor temps from inside the OS -- following a guide I found online gave me kernel panic on boot, and I had to boot from a thumb drive and manually remove the offending files... I also accidentally rm -R'd all my kexts on one of them, requiring an OS reinstall. May try to push something more aggressive once I get that working, or else just toss Windows/Linux on a USB and work from there. Temps atm are in the low 30s in bios).

Other alternatives I considered included a 32-core threadripper build (discounted because of expense and relative lack of hackintosh support), buying a bunch of old workstations (discounted because of power and space inefficiency -- I'm storing these in lab -- and b/c with more components probability of failure climbs), and doing all my work on the cloud (which I've been too lazy/busy to learn, and I also hear can be obnoxious compared to having physical access to the machines, esp. for iterative problem solving. I think I even have e.g. substantial xsede allocation through a fellowship but otherwise this seemed cheap enough). Mostly I just wanted a bit more computational power with a minimum of work lol. Probably one of those options would have been better but I'm incompetent enough at computer stuff that I figured to stay with something tried and true.

GPU in the build is just for screen output during installation -- otherwise I'll be accessing the computers remotely via stuff like VNC viewer and PPSS. I haven't yet figured out GPU computing for my workloads so for now I don't need anything GPU-based there.

Overall, it was pretty fun getting everything working!

u/rauelius · 7 pointsr/buildapc

Well, in terms of CPU, get what you can afford. Right now the smart bets are the i3-6100 and the i5-6500. I've seen the i3 as low as $120 and I picked up my i5-6500 for $155.

Pick up a Cheap Z170 board with the processor, and stick some DDR4-2800 RAM to get the most out of it. Lower speed RAM and it's a little savings for a bit slower performance, while faster memory is very little more performance, but a jump in price.

In terms of GPU, I suggest either waiting for AMD's upcoming R9-480 and R9-480x or GTX1060/GTX1060-Ti cards. Both will be about that price-range, while at least giving the performance of an R9-390x or GTX980 respectively. However if you NEED a GPU right now, and the GTX970 is too much, just go with the R9-380x for around that price. AMD's cards have shown to be better prepared for future titles, and in general both the 380 and 380x are faster cards than the GTX960. If you have to stick with nVidia for some odd reason, the GTX950 would be a better choice in terms of value. I have my OC'd to the point that it performs about on par with a GTX960 and that card only cost me $120. I've seen GTX950's hover around that price as of late. Also, with the GTX1070 being $380, you might start seeing GTX970's drop to about $250 or so. In fact, EVGA B-Stock usually has GTX970's for $240-$260.

In fact here's a GTX970 for only $30 more than that GTX960.

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/4iq30t/video_card_evga_970_ssc_22999_25499_30mir/

So between the GTX950 and GTX970, the GTX960 is kinda pointless.

For PSU's check out the EVGA 600B. I got one myself, and it supplies good power, is a trusted brand and was $35 when I bought it. Again, if you look and are patient, you should see them show up at that price.

If you wanna save money on the case, for half the price of that Bitfenix you can get the somewhat similarly styled Thermaltake V1.

http://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-CORE-Extreme-Chassis-CA-1B8-00S6WN-01/dp/B015UDUAKG/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1463021241&sr=1-2&keywords=Thermaltake+V1

NZXT Source 210 is currently $55 on Amazon with 8 drive bays. Not hotswap, but the Node 804 that was already suggested and also doesn't have hotswap costs $115 (on Amazon, $100 on Newegg)

u/YourBeaner · 6 pointsr/buildapcsales

Yes, a lot of the good cases are even cheaper than those giant towers.

Core V1 Snow Edition Also available in black.

Cougar QBX More ventilated "Kaze" version also available.

Raijintek Metis

Core 500 This is the one that I am currently using, and I have an i7-8700, GTX 1070, 4 drives, good temps and fan noise is lower than whispers. You can't tell it's on unless you look at it on the ground. I bought this case when it was $55.

I've built in all but the Cougar QBX, which is a Hardware Canucks Damn Good Award winner. There is a limit to how much power you can squeeze into it, but guess what? Newer generation processors and GPU's are so energy-efficient and run so cool that the ceiling is always quite high. These cases are all ~$50. People who are downvoting me, people who are Mini ITX "denialers" are running on old and outdated information.

So like I was saying, most people have absolutely no need to not build mini ITX if they aren't going a K processor. The majority of people buying K processors don't even need it, and are wasting money by "futureproofing".

If you really do want led strip for your pc but don’t wanna pay much, I got these from amazon and prolly better than branded ones. It’s got a remote and the modes are really nice as well. My tower case is tinted on the sides but I still see everything perfectly. Worth it every $

Yes! It is the LEDs from Amazon, HERE!
They change colors and fade in and out, all rainbow colors. Or you can set it to just a solid color. And they are awesome because they click in magnetic, not glue or something. So it's easy to get them in the right spot and not mess up. And it comes with a little remote to control it with.

Was looking at this for my case first computer, but ended up on Cooler Master HAF 912 because it was a third the price.

I highly recommend all Cooler Master cases, my wife is using this one for her Mini-ITX build.

Not sure at this point, as it's been upgraded and done piecemeal intermittently over the years. I suppose the sum parts in it today would probably be around $800 if I had to guess.

The parts I have aren't available now since they're previous gen (LGA1150 board, i5 4690k, GTX 970 Mini), and people like to gouge online for older parts for some reason unless you're working eBay. But I spec'd out an equivalent, slightly better build with current parts and it comes out to $728:

  • https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rgJ3XH (partial, doesn't include mobo, CPU, cooler, or case).
  • Mobo
  • CPU (Microcenter will do $30-$40 off the mobo with the Mobo+CPU combo together)
  • Arctic Freezer 7 Pro cooler (because stock coolers suck)
  • Thermaltake Core v1 Mini-ITX case ($50 there, but I paid $35 for it, as Amazon regularly has discounts and instant savings on it).

Partpicker build there includes Windows 8.1, which I'm using. Win10 could be had for the same price, but I'm on 8.1 and trying to keep the list relatively equivalent where possible. The build includes a HDD for general storage and a SSD to install the OS on. I actually have two SSDs (one for games, one for OS) and a HDD (general storage and video), but it's mostly overkill I think. I just hate load times. :P

Idk what you want but for a case that looks super sexy the NZXT S340 would be a good start, cheap and nice.

Note: $140

TOTAL: $554

Edit 2: As your budget is $600 and I don't know how lenient you are with going over or what, but an Asus RX 470 would be a better graphics card and would increase the total to around $650.

Edit 3:
AFTERMARKET CPU COOLER:Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120mm PWM Fan (RR-212E-20PK-R2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_E-12xbR7ZCHBK
Note: $28

Edit 4: If you want peripherals that's gonna be around $1000 in total for decent crap. I would suggest a 1080p 60hz monitor, a mechanical keyboard ( I use a G. Skillz KM780 RGB and it is fabulous), a nice pair of headphones HyperX cloud 2, and a nice set of speakers Logitech Z506. Also idk what you have but get a wifi adapter as well unless you can hook up to Ethernet which is highly recommended.

Edit 5: If any other questions just PM me glad to help you out more.

Edit 6: shit I forgot drives and OS. I'm too tired to link things anymore so I suggest getting a 128gb Samsung PRO SSD for your OS and main shit then get a Seagate 1TB HDD and you're good to go. Hopefully I covered everything.

Honestly 500-600 wouldn't make a very decent computer for a first rig. You can make one and well I made one just right now but that doesn't take into account peripherals. If you wanted 500-600 WITH peripherals that would have been the hardest budget build of my life. To maintain quality and performance, I'm cringing just thinking of it.

Fractal and Corsair are pretty much the top dogs when it comes to pc cooling. Lots of room for fans and they are open enough to provide ample airflow to cool all your components.

NZXT would be the runners up. Their cases are very attractive and they have the PSU and HDD on the bottom so its not obstructing the Mobo/CPU/GPU up top. the only thing is their cases are not as open, so your airflow isn't as good as it would be in a corsair. However, that is a minor gripe, I use a NZXT case and my temperatures at idle are 25c-28c (CPU) and 25c-30c(GPU).

Style, color, and size all come into play when getting your case. I'd argue getting the right case is the most crucial part of any PC build. It has to look good, it has to have enough room without looking like a barely furnished house, and it has to have the right type of airflow going through it.

Those cases you listed are all very good ones though. Can't go wrong with any of them. ;)

edit: I'll go ahead and recommend the case that I personally use, the NZXT s340 It's a decent size and I managed to fit everything nicely and the airflow rate is superb.

Here it is up and running. (I like showing it off, don't judge)

Thanks! As for the lights, the ones behind the monitors is a 4 strip RGB LED kit from IKEA. However, I would just recommend going on Amazon and getting a kit similar to the ones I post below. The only reason I got the IKEA ones is because I worked there at the time and it was a little cheaper, otherwise I would have gotten the ones on Amazon since they are a much better option.

For inside the desktop, I bought a kit that is essentially the same LEDs I was talking about before, but instead they are adapted so that it plugs into a 4-Pin molex.

Computer Tower RGB Light Kit:* https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AZ4XX0E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Monitor/Desk/Room Lighting: https://www.amazon.com/SUPERNIGHT-Waterproof-300LEDs-Flexible-Controller/dp/B00B2F3KDQ/ref=sr_1_7?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1465874461&sr=1-7&keywords=rgb+led+strip+with+controller

On a side note, these LED strips are great because they can be cut to size, and if you have extra left over you can just get another controller and remote to have multiple lighting locations. And if your'e handy enough, you can technically just make the lights for inside your case on your own. As long as you know how to solder that is.

Sory about the essay. Hope this helped!

Sweden? It's a $40 USD case my friend. If you want to pay the shipping, you're welcome to it but it's probably not worth it.

Its also a micro ATX. I was going small and stealthy.

Do these $20 RGB LED kits on Amazon work ok:

  1. Gaming mice tend to be quite pricey if you get a branded one. Unless you're a pro (like super precise fps stuff) I highly recommend Perixx. Its literally half the price, mine's been working great for the past 4 years and its on amazon.
    https://www.amazon.com/Perixx-MX-2000-Programmable-Gaming-Laser/dp/B0083H4NG4/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1479459405&sr=8-1&keywords=Perrix

  2. As for LED lighting, again HUE+ is quite expensive for the functionality. Go for https://www.amazon.com/Tingkam-RGB-Attached-Controller-Generation/dp/B01HXPPUR2/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1479459584&sr=1-5&keywords=led+pc+lighting
If you want something that just works.

  3. I got myself a drone last year but ended up playing with it like 3-4 times. There's a very high chance that it'll just end up in storage

it's a NZXT 210 with a 5 bay hot swap module - that isn't the exact one I got, but I couldn't find mine within 3 minutes of looking and that was really all I wanted to commit to.

AFAIK, the case will make a logistical nightmare if designed poorly. From the guides/reviews I read and watched, most said to spend a little more to get one that's designed with an ounce of logic.

I spent roughly 72£ and got a case that has logical access holes, removable drive bays (allowing for more room/making install easier), three built-in fans, etc. It's very roomy and was easy to install my first build ever. I wouldn't spend mroe than 80£, but I also wouldn't spend only 27£.

I'm currently building a gaming PC for my nephew using mostly pre-owned parts from some of my friends that were upgrading their PCs. I bought a Cooler Master Case that was on sale at the time for approx $75, and bought a refurbished GIGABYTE GA-AB350-Gaming 3 motherboard for $40. I got a Ryzon 5 CPU from a friend that was upgrading his own to a Ryzon 7, I had a NVIDIA GTX 960 from when I upgraded mine to a GTX 1080 TI. I had a 800 watt power supply salvaged out of another PC. Currently the only things that it is missing is RAM and a harddrive which will cost around $300 if bought new, but I'm actively looking around for refurbished or a decent sale to lower the cost.

My remarks:

  • The V300 is a scam, don't buy it. It is absolutely okay to go with cheaper and slower SSDs, but there are better and honest options. I'd also keep the amount of drives down, a single 1TB SSD can easily replace the smaller drive.
  • I'm not sure what is needed for digital drawing, but for gaming you do not need a i7 6700K nor to overclock your processor
  • Thermal paste is included with those coolers
  • the PSU is overdimensioned
  • Given the budget, I'd go with a Fury over the R9 390 if 1440p is the goal. For 1080p the R9 390 is enough.

My modifications would result in this:

Same price on Amazon

That’s in case for people like me who prefer Amazon over NewEgg

u/a_park_bench · 3 pointsr/pcgaming

Surprised they also didn't mention the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M TG as an alternative to the Enthoo Evolv TG. It doesn't have glass on both sides (a pro as far as I'm concerned), no RGB and it has a slightly different design that likely contributes to better airflow in the Pro (I own the Pro M but think the Evolv looks slightly better). It's also about $100 cheaper, roughly half the price.

I realize they can't realistically add every case, but this seems like a perfect addition since their con for the Evolv is price.

u/itsDjFLiP · 3 pointsr/sffpc

Cooler Master Q300L.

They also have Q300P if you wanna RGB it up, but I prefer the Q300L mostly because it'll have better airflow

It just released the other day, and backorder on newegg.

Someone on Amazon is selling it as well

u/wishful_cynic · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I'm very pleased with them. They were under $20 and include two strips that mount magnetically inside the tower. They connect to the PSU via molex connector. There is some adhesive on the small power brick for the strips, but I didn't need to mount this. Instead, I hid the small power brick inside an unused drive bay and have the tiny receiver slightly exposed through a small gap in the bay so that the remote control has a clear path for changing the color, brightness, and lighting mode. Here's an Amazon link.

u/relevant_pet_bug · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Ok, Now, looking at your questions more in depth:

  1. RGB air coolers are pretty hard to find. The high end companies seem to disdain them really hard. Which basically means either custom adding an aftermarket RGB fan later, or buying an AIO, unless you want to go full custom loop.

  2. PSU, your best bet would be to grab a 750 watt from the PSU tier list's high end here, Anything over A- on that list will be fine.

  3. Storage: This is complex. You shouldn't be using a NAS drive like a Iron wolf for storing or playing games. Those are mainly more for media back up. Hell, at your price range, you should be considering all SSD unless you are storing lots of video and mp3s and flac and stuff. Modern games shouldn't be on hard drives anymore. You can get RGB SSDs like the Team Delta RGB SSD and the Team Delta Max SSD, but stay away from kingston RGB ssds, they are really bad.

  4. Case Mods: Besides the dummy ram I mentioned in my post, RGB Motherboard Adapter.

  5. You case might be compatible, but it is old as hell, and as VERY dated aesthetic. Case nowadays have a lot of quality of life features. My old case from 2013 was considered an excellent case back then, and now I think it's garbage compared to modern cases. The other detail is that Full tower designs are not at all popular, smaller cases are the trend now.

    Here are some modern cases:

The Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL Note that if you use a standard fan setup, you couldn't show off RGB SSDs, they would be hidden. This case is mainly a liquid cooling case, but does ok on air. It also has much glass some people worry about damage.

Corsair Crystal 570x maybe too small for you, and the corsair fans aren't the same and are a bit worse then you aftermarket ones. The glass thing from above applies

Cooler Master H500 mesh This is a killer case. You could use it to show off 2 RGB SSDs next to each other. The specs say it can only hand 2 ssd, and 2 HDDs, but you can buy extra SSD panels, and put them in 3 more spaces. However, this case doesn't have minimalist aesthetic that is popular right now.
u/DarkCodedDragon · 2 pointsr/buildmeapc

I have 525 being the boot drive with all of my games and programs and then keep like my personal files on the 1tb drive. You could spend more and get 1080 or buy a different case like https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Crystal-570X-RGB-CC-9011098-WW/dp/B01LE0ZKR2.

people on the sub really like the fractal design meshify c which is less than $100, and I'm pretty partial to phanteks cases, such as the eclipse p400s or pro m. NZXT's also got a new compact ATX case that goes for $100, i think it's the H500i? But all of these cases have differing aesthetics so it is really down to how much you like the look of the case since you'll be looking at it, yknow, a lot. cooler master H500p is a beautiful case so go for it.

This should acceptable i think. Upgraded graphics card and better CPU. I was looking onto getting more new game title since right now im only capable on playing these two low requirement games. I was thinking about games like GTA V or Witcher 3. I also want some higher graphics in WoW even in intensive Raids.
Maybe change the graphics card since i think its kinda overkill ( is it?)

Story Time

Initially, I started with this case ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Q2Z11QE ) as I was thinking of throwing something together like what you're talking about. Then my "project" began to grow.

That's when I ended up ordering this case instead ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005KQ66ZC ). That said, my server consists of a Threadripper 2990WX with an AIO water cooler. Well...this case wasn't made for that. So my father in law machined a hole in the top to mount the radiator on the top of the case like a blower on a car. This worked VERY well for a couple of weeks, but I just wasn't happy with it.

Finally, I ordered this case ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0091IZ1ZG ), to which I was able to fit everything inside of with a few extra bolts that still need to be trimmed. Here's a pic of the inside of mine and the temp 32 cores runs at ( https://imgur.com/tek9ID0 - https://imgur.com/vEPFLv5 ), do excuse the dust.

As far as SSD's go, just do something like this ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GMGZBP0 ). Saves space and doesn't hurt them as they only take a single HDD slot. Taping them to the side of the case doesn't hurt either if you don't care about the looks. Also, I want to boast about these fans for a min ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KFCRF1A ). Move a lot of air and aren't as loud as you'd think. The 120mm variant is a good bit louder, but still well worth it.

u/FacialH · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I was going to recommend that you try to switch some things up to bump up from 1050 to the 1050 Ti but not sure that's possible now since it looks like all the reasonably priced Tis are sold out. I'd suggest going with this H110 motherboard instead of the B250. The H110 also has a $10 rebate. Not sure where else you could trim a few bucks.... maybe going with something like this micro ATX case.

I actually had my server built in one for about 18 months because of all the 3.5" bays, but I switched to a rackmount recently because I ran out of 3.5" bays hah. Awesome case, especially for the money though!

u/xDreamzZx · 2 pointsr/buildapc

The NZXT Source 340 is popular (also found in white).

Also the more expensive Fractal Design Define R5 (also found in Titanium Grey and white).

Many enjoy the cheaper NZXT Source 210 (also found in white) and the bit more expensive NZXT Source 210 Elite (also found in white).

And of course NZXT H440 (also found in other colors and the Razer edition).

Also Corsair have made some nice cases. Especially their Obsidian series.

In the end it depends on your budget and I have just linked some of the most popular which should be for every budget!

u/notliansong · 2 pointsr/buildapc

For 8 GB of 1600 RAM, it's harder to get any lower than that. However, I'd recommend a case upgrade to a case that allows for cable management through the rear of the motherboard tray, like the NZXT Source 210.

Yeah, I'd recommend a 7870 XT/LE edition. Here's one for cheap. Make sure to use the mail in rebate!

u/ExCerealKiller · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Alright so I decided to just go with a large enough PSU for one video card, went a little higher than you needed for a 6950 but it can't hurt. :) There is a little extra money to spend on other things, if you want to get a CPU cooler for overclocking, or change parts around. I went with a cheap keyboard since you didn't specify if you wanted something better, but again you can use the money for that. Also the case is somewhat generic, so you could put the money towards something that looks more badass, I'd look into the NZXT Phantom (linked).

Before you seriously consider purchasing this I would create a [Build Ready] thread just in case I made any errors in the build. :) Let me know if you have any questions.

>How hard is it to set up RAID? Is it just using multiple drives or is it splitting up data and storing them on all drives?

In this scenario, you'd be using RAID to mirror data across two drives. The computer would see two 1TB drives as a single 1TB drive. These days, the process is pretty straightforward.

>I also see the tower being really expensive. Is there a real upside to that case I don't know about?

It's a popular choice for custom water-cooling systems, which need a lot of room to route the hoses. But for a closed-loop cooler like the H100, it would be pretty extravagant. For full towers, you'd be fine with something like a HAF 932 Advanced, or a Switch 810 (definitely recommend buying that one from Amazon, because the other sellers are asking at least $20 more to ship it). For mid-towers, there's the 600T, or the 500R, and NZXT also has a mid-tower Phantom. Just to name a few.

Use that savings to get a better power supply, like this rebadged Seasonic, or this other rebadged Seasonic, or an Antec Truepower New. The 850w versions of those Seasonics are not much more, if you want even more headroom.

NZXT Phantom 410 Computer Case

Yes, I’d like to keep it. As I don’t do much with it.

u/infernalpeach · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

[It's the NZXT Phantom 410] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006I2H04I/)

I have the same case, so here is a quick review. Overall the case is solid and really easy to build in. Cable management is a breeze. The case has a lot of room for storage. However, mounting the hard drives in their individual brackets is kind of a pain thanks to this weird pin system NZXT uses. It should also be noted that the fans NZXT supplied with the case are pretty noisy and not of the best quality.

All in all this is a solid case, but I would definitely look at replacing the fans shortly after purchase.

u/unlap · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Build Question:

I'm going for an ITX Build. Just a small multimedia PC for the living room and a small emulation box.

So far I have:

Cooler Master Elite 130

Be Quiet Pure Power L8 430W

Intel Pentium 2 x 3,2GHz, Socket 1150, 3MB Cache

Geforce GTX 750Ti

HyperX Savage HX316C9SRK2 DDR3 2x8gb

Asrock B85M ITX

Western Digital Black 1TB, 7200 U/min SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5

Crucial SSD 120 gb, 2,5 ZollSATA III

LG DVD Drive

The things I am most concerned about are loudness, as this PC will be in the living room next to the TV, and temperature.

Can someone recommend a CPU-Cooler with great performance and a suitable size for this ITX build?
Is there anything else I can do/add/buy, to reduce temperature and loudness in this build?

First thing that comes to my mind for a short, wide case:
https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Computer-Radiator-RC-902XB-KKN2/dp/B00FFJ0H3Q, but not sure if that's too big for what you're planning. It's only got 4 front accessible drive bays though, and I don't recall seeing many cases nowadays that have 6 up front. Are you looking for SFF sized cases or something that can accommodate a full sized atx board?

u/Comrade_Kitten · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Cooler Master HAF XB II EVO

Either he got it in white or he painted it.

No matter what it's a sexy beast.

u/Richard_MF_Nixon · 2 pointsr/pcgamingtechsupport

> I came to the realization that the PCI slots don't all have the same bandwidth (so I'm hoping this discovery may be a good thing)

It is! You'll now be able to use your SLI more efficiently. Just make sure there's no other damage to the board, but from what you said it seems ok now.

>Now, the big question for me: are these video cards too close together?.

Yeah, the top one is blowing hot air directly onto the PCB of the other one, hindering the top one's cooling and cooking the other. Look into getting them watercooled. I would stop using SLI until then if I were you.

>And a follow-up question: does anyone know of a better CPU fan than this.

Yes.

BONUS

This case is pretty much wife-proof especially if you swap out it's mesh top panel for a plexiglass one. Those are kinda hard to find but not impossible. Coolermaster may sell them directly.

u/InEnduringGrowStrong · 2 pointsr/worldnews

39 different Cooler Master cases sharing the same reviews.
It's annoying.
Also makes the questions/answers mostly impossible to use because you have to click each one to see the actual model the question talks about.

u/DaNooba · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

Something like the Thermaltake Core G3 Slim or the Cooler Master HAF XB II EVO (the latter of which has handles) might be a good call.

The Cooler Master is slightly larger, but still quite mobile while also relatively cheap (Amazon link)

u/Kerolyte · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Since I love my Air 540 so much, I can't help but suggest the Air 240, it's a cube case with really good airflow, I hate my components running hot and I like giving them fresh air, so this is one of the reason I bought mine. Also, there is a lot of room for cable management, the case is cut into two halves, one for the Active Cooling components (GPU, CPU) and the other half for the passive cooling components (PSU) so it's a breeze, really, you shouldn't spend too much time with cable management since it's basically route and plug. It will support your GTX 950 FTW but I don't know what kind of CPU cooler you have; you didn't include it in the build page, but the maximum CPU cooler height for the Air 240 is 120mm only. For you it might lose out on "sexy" points but for me I like symmetrical and clean cases. Overall I think you'll love it. Oh, and.. 80$ :S sorry.

u/Hyppy · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I love my white Corsair Air 240, it's around $90.

Full sized cases with microATX motherboards just give you more room. Airflow isn't necessarily going to be better unless you load it up with enough fans to sound like a leaf blower.

The only video card that is really 4k ready right now is the 1080 and it can't even do 60 FPS max settings consistently. An RX 480 is a 1080p gaming card. I love my RX 480, but I just don't want you thinking it will do 4k very well. For the case, the Fractal Design Define R5 or Define S should fit the bill. You can go look at reviews or Fractal Design's website to see the differences as there are a few, but they both are capable of holding 3 HDDs, have noise cancelling padding, and the R5 has rubber stands for HDDs to mitigate vibration.

u/ClamatoChutney · 2 pointsr/unRAID

https://www.amazon.com/Fractal-Design-Define-Gaming-FDCADEFR5BK/dp/B00Q2Z11QE

unRAID OS is installed and always running from the USB drive. It will never be removed and cannot be installed on a hard drive. Just make sure it is a trustworthy brand name and you can very easily see the serial number etched on the metal.

u/mercenary_sysadmin · 2 pointsr/zfs

> I must reconsider my decision then, as I couldn't sleep while transferring files next room. It's really that annoying.

A quieter case is probably the more sensible reaction. Something along the lines of an Antec Sonata or Fractal Design R5. Chassis design makes a huge impact on how much hard drive noise makes it out into the room.

Might be a dumb question but I'd just like to confirm. Would a Sapphire Fury Nitro fit in my case here?

It says

>VGA Clearance Maximum 230mm w/ hard drive, 330mm w/o hard drive

so I'll most likely have to move my hard drives, but the 330 mm translates to almost exactly 13 inches. Is that enough for the Fury Nitro (including cabling)?

cheaper case, matx to match motherboard. The Elite 430 is overpriced for what you get, at the least you could get something nicer for the same price like the Source 210 or Corsair 200R(if you go with the 200R you'll want to change the motherboard to something with USB 3.0 front panel like this)

u/effngee · 1 pointr/buildapc

Well, the new power supply you mentioned will cost you $70 before the mail-in rebate arrives someday, but you can get a CX430 for $39 and a Source 210 case for $29, for a total of $68 right now. That will give you plenty of legroom for a 7850.

All are high quality cases for mid-level builds and have great cable management options.

Logisys is just as bad. Check out this review of a Logisys power supply which has a falsely-labeled "600W" power supply which can't even push 375W without burning out. Also, they put fake 80 Plus logos on it, which amounts to fraudulent accreditation.

  • Excellent processor. The games you're talking about strongly favor Intel, and this is close to the best CPU you can get for them.
  • Excellent graphics card. The 770 can hold its own at 1440p in most games, only struggling to put out 30FPS in the most demanding games. Just as importantly, it has Shadowplay, which, unlike AMD cards, will let you capture gameplay without a significant hit to performance.
  • No-frills motherboard. You could spend about $100 more on this, and not see a single difference unless you're trying to overclock or use dual graphics cards. If you are, let me know!
  • Case: This is totally aesthetic. The Phantom looks awesome, and costs about triple what it would if it were a boring black box. What kind of 'cool' are you looking for? I can try to dig up more modestly priced receptacles.

> Its night time for me, but if you'll hold on buying till at least tomorrow I'll try to give you a couple of other options. Look into mITX gaming rigs and see if they peak your interest. If they don't we will probably go mATX.

> If you have a particular case in mind (really the most personal part) let me know and we will just pick the innards from there!

Continuing this here. Are these the small cases mentioned? Because they are freaking adorable! So small, it's so cute! Hell it looks like my first CD player, almost. Is there a downside to these? Do they overheat easy or anything? They're so cute, and I can't really tell, but they look like they might be small enough to take with me to league tourneys, instead of having to switch to my laptop a week before the tourny to take it. Anyway, here's a link list of cases I have perused in the last 45 minutes and like from a pure aesthetic look. 1-3 I think are the baby ones. I included other sizes too just in case.

  1. (Baby) This red brick with handle
  2. (Baby) The white version of it
  3. (Baby) The see through radio
  4. (Mid) This ridiculously girly and over the top pink case.. roflwtf
  5. (Mid) This white one that reminds me of a classy car
  6. (Full) A big red hulk
  7. I don't know the size but the things are on the top! How cool is that!

Bed time for me too, I'll be around on my phone tomorrow. I crossed out #3 because after looking back at them, it was least impressive, and I was too lazy to take out the text and redo my list numbers.

Edit: On second thought I just can't do the ridiculously girly one either. I'd love to, but at the same time I would also loathe myself. I refuse to be one of those people. ^^^no ^^^offense ^^^meant

In terms of cases that are wider than they are tall, look good in a home theatre, but can also equip components fit for gaming the pickings are a bit slim. A lot of HTPC cases are designed for pretty low intensity components because they usually are built just for streaming. If you want to game on it, you probably have to make some compromises, but I am not entirely in the loop with all HTPC cases. Options I can think of are:

  1. Silverstone Sugo SG08 $200 inc 600W PSU.
The Sugo SG08 comes pretty close to fitting the bill. It is the larger brother of the SG05 and just a tiny tad smaller than the Node 304. It has a very clean, minimalistic look. It has a disc drive slot and ships with a custom small form factor PSU of 600W. It will take an ITX board and otherwise most standard components. Lots of high end gaming builds around, just google your parts to see that everything fits. Quite expensive.

  2. The Node 304 + An external Blue Ray player $90 for case, PSU not included . This means you have the looks, form factor and power that you want, plus the media capability. Other than requiring a mini ITX motherboard it can pretty much fit "standard" components. An external USB Blue Ray drive can be had for as low as $30. Plug it in whenever you need to, or just leave it resting on top.

  3. Silverstone Sugo SG05 $125 inc 450W PSU - This mini ITX case comes in white or black and looks similar to the Node 304, is a good bit smaller and has a slot for a disc drive. Small cases means that things become a little more fiddley. Things like cable management and good quality fans are more important to improve air flow to silence any noise in the living room. The case ships with a small form factor PSU with either 300W or 450W. You would want the 450W one for gaming. Alternatively you can buy a "naked" case and buy your own small form factor PSU. The smaller the case, the more research you have to do to make sure all the parts fit (i.e. water coolers etc), but SG05 builds are quite common, so just google away.

  4. Bitfenix Prodigy $90 - I feel like a mini ITX discussion these days isn't complete without mentioning the Prodigy. Out of all the cases, the Prodigy is the easiest to work with because it is quite a bit larger than the other cases we have listed so far. That means it can be treated more like a regular PC. It will fit a mini ITX board and all regular components ... and then some. That means airflow is excellent and noise a minimum. The finish of the case is just a bit cheaper than the others here, and it has less of an HTPC look, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Many people swear by it. I have read that you can easily remove the 2 handles, to give it a smaller profile and a more "square" look.
u/fatalmovementv1 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

If you haven't already considered a bitfenix prodigy i would look into one. It looks nice, is portable and is relatively small http://www.amazon.com/BitFenix-Mini-ITX-Without-Midnight-BFC-PRO-300-KKXSK-RP/dp/B008RJQ0LE

u/Jmaglioo · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I have both, and a laptop is nice if you are constantly going over a friend's house to play games or you just have to move it a lot. For my specific situation, I used to move my entire rig -PC, monitor, keyboard, everything- every Friday. That shit was really annoying.

That being said, moving an entire PC around isn't that hard, I had mine packed up in maybe 5 mins and set back up in 10. If you want the power of a PC and want to be mobile, get the case I got. http://www.amazon.com/BitFenix-Mini-ITX-Without-Midnight-BFC-PRO-300-KKXSK-RP/dp/B008RJQ0LE/ref=sr_1_15?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1416180516&sr=1-15&keywords=mini+itx+case

Them handles are glorious.

Also if you've done any research so far, you'll know that laptops are WAY more expensive that a desktop (if you're building it yourself.)

I'd say if you have the money, but a laptop with a 860M or higher. I have a 850M and it works fine for now, but not long. Only get a laptop if you're willing to go big. If you plan on staying in the same spot for most of the time, get a PC with the Mini ITX case.

u/Shlappz · 1 pointr/buildapc

Maybe take the GPU out of the other pc and put it in the new one for college. You can save a few hundred bucks and put the money toward other components. Another thing I would do is get an mitx case because they are smaller and easier to transport. Then again, you could just take your other pc - I wouldn't worry about theft as long as you keep it in your dorm. Maybe get a case with a handle on top and use a bike lock to chain it to your desk for extra insurance. It's a little ghetto but it would probably work just fine.

EDIT: here's a nice case with handles

u/ERIFNOMI · 1 pointr/buildapc

Hell you could do a NUC-class computer (like NUC, BRIX, ZBOX, etc.). That sounds like it might be enough for you and they're pretty tiny.

I'm on highschool wifi so i can't take a look at the build in your current case yet, but I'm in the process of moving my build into a small format, I went with the coolermaster elite 130, because its cheap and should have the space to fit all of the components, including gpu's up to at least 12 inches(and then a bit from a review I watched) https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Elite-130-Mini-ITX/dp/B00DJ6A88G

That case looks swish, I was thinking about the Cooler Master Elite but that one looks a little nicer, which is kind of a big thing for me 'cause it's going to be sat under the TV in the living room for what I hope will be a long time.

Is there no need for a graphics card at all with the home streaming? Any idea how much power it takes to decode the signal from the other pc? If so, this could be cheaper than I thought!

u/_chidaruma · 1 pointr/buildapc

Hey there everyone, right now I've got a completed build which started as a Cyberpower prebuild, which I've slowly upgraded over time and right now all that remains from that is the RAM and case.
I'm looking to upgrade both, but right now I'm looking for a new case. I've got a few in mind, I'm just wondering if my parts would fit inside? I LOVE the look of a smaller cube-ish case, but if my parts won't fit then obviously it won't work out.

I'm looking at the Cooler Master Elite 130 and Corsair Carbide Series Air 240. Alternatively if those don't work, I'd like to get the Rosewill NIGHTHAWK117. I got a NZXT Hue lighting system the other day and have it in my current case. Can I transfer that to my new one? I'm hoping the 3m will still be sticky enough. I appreciate ANY help.

Here is my current part list, IK that it's missing stuff, but rest assured I've got everything I need and a working build. I couldn't find my HD or RAM on the old listing I bought the computer from, its just a generic 1tb HD and two sticks of 4gb RAM.

Regarding the monitor, you could get one of those tiny, portable ones like this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Computer-Monitors/Loncevon-Portable-Computer-Raspberry-Headphone/B06XQJVXHL/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1542905456&sr=8-12&keywords=tiny+monitor

That would let you configure things and run the software, at least, though it's not a very good solution for actual coding.

When I got my VR rig, I took a serious look at the ASUS gaming laptops. The specs look nice, and I'd put more trust in ASUS than DELL (I've been screwed over by DELL all too many times). In the end I put together a mini-ITX in a very small, but not tiny case:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-Computer-Mini-ITX-RC-130-KKN1/dp/B00DJ6A88G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1542905779&sr=8-2&keywords=cooler+master+elite

It's big enough for a full-size graphics card and liquid cooling on the CPU. Cooling (and price) is the main reason I went for the mini-ITX form factor. It's still reasonably portable, but you can add fans and coolers into it if your CPU runs hot.

u/Nowaker · 1 pointr/Amd

Cooler Master Elite 130, if you use pliers to make space for a third row. I fit 4 HDDs and 2 SSDs in there, as well as Radeon 7. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DJ6A88G/

u/dc880610 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Just going to add some more thoughts here...

I was concerned that my power supply might not fit in the case, but pcpartpicker lists my current power supply and says there's no compatibility issues with the Cooler Master Elite 130 case I selected.

According to the Amazon spec table, the Cooler Master Elite 130 case only supports one 5.25" device, so I will only be able to use either the DVD drive or the Blu-ray drive -- not both. Probably not a deal-breaker; I rarely use the Blu-ray drive.

The specs are a little confusing to interpret, but it sounds like I should be able to fit both my SSD (a 2.5" drive) and my HD (a 3.5" drive).

u/XII_Gravity · 1 pointr/buildapc

Here you go. note i did get the moniter on a going out a buisness sale at office depot for $120 rather than $250 https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HDBfBP

Also the case is not on that list but it is a mini ITX: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DJ6A88G/?tag=pcpapi-20

I guess that puts it closer to $700, my bad

u/ChoiceD · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yea, I would like to roll my own. I had a stick of RAM die on me last week and it occurred to me that my pc is going on eight years old (although the ram is closer to seven). Still considering whether I should bother with the warranty on it. My current build is a mid-tower and I would like to go smaller. I was thinking of going down to micro atx, but the cases really aren't that much smaller, so I've started looking at mini itx. I've barely even started looking, but I kinda like this case. And I'm also waiting for that ram price gouging to subside a bit.

Question: Is its reasonable to stack radiators?

Specifically for the 1070 seahawk (aka, h60), on top of an h80i. The computer is stuck inside of an elite 130, so room and cooling is rather uncomfortable. My 770 Windforce thats in it now gets thermal limited.

My alternative was thinking about moving it back into an elite 110 and sticking Gigabyte's itx version in it. Just to make a high end, but cute gaming PC. I have no clue how the thermals will end up on that card though. Likely to be a nightmare.

I've done a fair amount of reading on plex servers and file sharing, but I still have a pretty elementary understanding so I'm hoping for some critique/constructive criticism on my plans. I plan on supporting up to 4 plex streams all through Wifi to TVs, tablets, laptops, phones. No remote access at this point. I plan on using a NAS device as storage for tv shows/movies/music and it will also be a torrenting machine. Then have another computer serve as the plex media server. This is probably overkill, but here's what I was planning:

File Storage/Torrenting server

Synology 2 Bay NAS

WD 4TB Hard Drive (x2)

Plex Media Server

Micro ATX Case

Gigabyte Motherboard

Ryzen 5 2600 CPU - 13000 passmark

8 GB Ram

Graphics Card

Still trying to figure out the power supply for the PMS. I think 550w should be ample. I also have a 1TB hard drive from years ago that I think I can use with this. If not I'll just get another one. My understanding is PMS transcoding isn't burdensome on RAM, but more processors cores/threads so I made sure I have ample room there.

The one caveat is this will be in the living room right underneath the main TV, so I wanted to try and keep noise level down. Or is this all just unnecessry overkill and I should just look at a T710/T310 dell server as the PMS?

For a case that'll leave a smaller footprint, I really want to recommend the Air 240 but because you have the NH-D14 (ayyy Noctua. High five) you will most definitely have a clearance issue. It can definitely house your 780ti though since the Air 240 has no problem housing the 970 G1 even with a rad at the front.

While filling different needs, both cases offer great cable management, good aesthetics, stellar interior arrangements, and good quality. If you check out the accessories section of the corsair website, some cases have back plane updates, widowed side panels, or just well priced replacement parts. Not something every manufacturer offers.

Honestly, the tutorials you find will be fine. Like they've said, you'll need a CPU cooler. A couple first-time builder tips I'd recommend, though:

  • Make sure you're conscious of static while you build, and ground yourself by touching your case. It'd be easy for a new builder to not account for that, but there are horror stories of pieces being fried.

  • I'd connect everything you can on the mobo outside the case. Seat the processor, put in the RAM. If you go with a cooler that uses a backplate (liquid AIO,) install that too.

  • Micro ATX will be fine in a mid-size case, it's just odd really. You could take advantage of your smaller mobo and get a smaller case if you'd like. I just completed a microATX build in the Corsair Air 240 and love it, for example.

  • Be conscious of your cable management. It'll probably look awful when you're done, because most peoples first build or two always do. Zipties or the little twist ties can go a long way to alleviate that.

  • If you don't have a tiny screwdriver, get one.

You'll be able to manage, no sweat. :) Good luck with your build!

Overall smaller shape than my current case, which is the Corsair Carbide 88R. Need room for standard pc sized parts, and decent cable management. I think you are thinking of it's big brother the 740 which is $120.

u/purtymouth · 1 pointr/PcMasterRaceBuilds

I considered an open case design like this, but it's gonna be hard to do liquid cooling without a custom loop. Also, I was concerned about portability. I'm gonna need to move a few times in the next 5 years, and that thing seems like a nightmare to move.

Now I'm leaning towards a smaller cube design with plenty of room for cable management. This corsair case looks great. It's also compatible with this liquid cooling system, so that's what I'm leaning towards now.

I'm gonna wait until the 1080 drops at the end of the month before I buy a GPU.

u/ak474000 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Air 240 if you want a smaller M-ATX case with a bunch of features. Nice and small light weight which if you have the concern for M-ATX cases are a good way to go.

u/boneybob · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yes just the tower.

With this you wont need a 4k monitor, just 1080p so depends on how much you want to spend and how big you want. [I had this one for a while and loved it.] (https://www.amazon.com/23-inch-Wide-Screen-VX238H-Response-Speakers/dp/B00ANKMNXO/ref=nav_ya_signin?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1522551594&sr=1-8&keywords=1080p+monitor&)

As for a mouse, i would go to best buy or frys and put your hand on one and see which one feels the best. But I really like the [Razer Mamba] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013HSWF40/ref=twister_B071WFY14D?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1).

Just FYI, the motherboard i picked is a mATX which is micro ATX so its smaller and i picked a case that supports mATX. Its more expensive than ATX by around $25 so you can get a regular ATX motherboard cheaper but you will need larger case than the one i picked. I actually ended up using [this case.] (https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Carbide-Airflow-MicroATX-Mini-ITX/dp/B00LA6Y5XQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1522552372&sr=8-2&keywords=corsair+240)

u/RageCrezz · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Nope, since on the most microATX cases the power button and the whole Panel of it is built on the side, where the Window might be.

Though, if you're looking for a case with a window, white case, microATX and fans, here are some:

BitFenix Aegis White Edition Contains 3x 120mm fans in front and 1x 120mm on the back
AeroCool Strike X Cube White Edition Contains 2x 120mm fans in front and 1x 200mm or 2x 140mm on the top
Corsair Carbide Series Air 240 White Edition Contains 1x 120mm fans on the right side, 1-2x 120mm on the top and 2x 120mm on the bottom

u/Sluggable · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

its a corsair air 240 I love the dual chamber design and how compact the whole system is

u/CptJesus · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm sort of feeling a random build, and I decided since I have an Asus Dual 1070, I'm going for a cool white build, but in micro-ATX. I've already highlighted the Air 240 case (https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Carbide-Airflow-MicroATX-Mini-ITX/dp/B00LA6Y5XQ) as a great option for the case (unless someone can suggest one better)

I'm looking for a mobo and ram/cooler to match the white theme, but having trouble finding the motherboard in particular in mATX size. Anyone have any suggestions or tips? I'm definitely looking for Z170 since I'm either going with a 6600k or a 6700k

u/ObamaIzHitla · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

Its pretty roomy for a mATX case. Youve also got a modular PSU so it wont get cluttered. If you want something bigger its gonna cost you a bit more.

350D - Very roomy for mATX, i own this case... its almost as big as a mid tower. Very nice though.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139021

Define Mini - Very nice case... probably just as nice as the corsair but costs a little bit less. Not quite as big either.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352011

Newer version of the case in the build - Most affordable of the bunch, only slightly larger however.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163247

Corsair Air - Probably the largest of the mATX cases; its box shaped rather than rectangular and there is no optical drive slot.

u/PetiePal · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm looking to:

  • Upgrade my mobo
  • Switch cases to a MiniCube of some sort

I've used a lot of Asus mobos in the past, i'd probably stick with them. Mine is probably several years old at this point, and USB 3.0 is a big draw for me.

    Questions

  1. Which of these 3 cases do you recommend?

Cooler Master Elite 130 - Mini-ITX Computer Case

Thermaltake Core V1 Mini ITX Computer Chassis
Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case

  2. Will I have to do a full windows reinstall (The fake full reinstall method etc) because Windows will think it's a whole new brand new PC? Can I simply pull my Windows Serial with an app/utility? I've got so many of those install OEM disks laying around I'm not sure if it's going to be easy to find.

  3. I'm only really looking at having 1 video card, an SSD and maybe a 1TB drive in there, plus the 16GB RAM I already have. Are there any disadvantages to the cube case form factor these days?

  4. What Asus motherboard would you recommend? My processor is the Intel Core i7 920

u/israphial · 1 pointr/buildapc

Thank you for caring enough to stick with me in terms of responses. I really appreciate it. :)

I guess I'd like to be able to have a bit of both. Like, I want to be able to turn my graphics up and not have to deal with, like, 20 FPS. I know that, because I'm not putting like $1000 into this, I won't be able to run everything at 60 FPS ultra settings (or even high, in the case of games like Witcher 3) but I would still like to have a solid and strong computer that I can tweak over time. I am also willing to sacrifice graphical quality for FPS, as well. For example, I play Team Fortress 2 at basically the lowest settings on my laptop so that I'll have the highest FPS possible for my computer.

Also, I did some research on case sizes and what fits what, and I saw this case link that fits exactly what I'd like to use/have. I don't want a big tower because I want to be able to take it with me somewhat easily. I want something that's at least somewhat portable.

EDIT: I'm not sure if I said this earlier, but I have a hard drive and a SDD that I can put into it already, so you can subtract/not include that. I also have a valid Windows key, a mouse, and a keyboard. I don't have a monitor but don't include that either because I think I can find one of those pretty easily used.

For something drawing such little power you could go with a PicoPSU:

http://www.mini-box.com/picoPSU-80-60W-power-kit

They're super efficient and no fan, I've got one in my HTPC with a Celeron G1610. Then you could pick pretty much any small case that fits your needs without worrying what PSU it comes with. Some nice little ITX cube cases:

https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Black-Computer-Chassis-CA-1B8-00S1WN-00/dp/B00M2UKGSM

I am all about it. The only real loss is dual video cards but that doesn't seem like it ever works out economically anyway.

As everyone else has said, the I7 and 16gb Ram is a bit overkill for gaming. But I will say I went with the 1060 for my friends and it is doing very well. I think it is plenty good for the near future

Though I have thought of going smaller. This works for now.

u/Dominyck · 1 pointr/buildapc

A few things to consider:

  1. If you get one 8 GB stick of RAM instead of 2 x 4GB you won't have to sell/discard your RAM if you decide to upgrade (using the current Motherboard you could eventually upgrade the processor/GPU/RAM to about twice the current specs just fyi).

  2. Just fyi your bottleneck right now is your video card. You could bump it up to a GTX 970 or R9 390 and it would better match your processor's capability.

  3. Not sure if you are trying to minimize costs, but if you want a really solid ITX case (full disclosure it's on the larger side as ITX cases go) for half the price, I own this and it's great: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M2UKGSM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

By liquid cooling do you mean custom loop liquid cooling or All in one liquid coolers like the NZXT Kraken X62?

Also what are your needs for the case? Do you need optical drives for things like a Blu-ray player? Does it need to be small and compact like an ITX case or do you want a full size case where you put more stuff in it? Do you want it to have a transparent side panel where you can see all your stuff or you don't care? RGB? Also what's your budget like?

Here some examples of cases that I like alot personally but they might not fit your needs.

You alright built the build at the top right? Or have you not purchased yet.

I'm assuming you already built.

There are way cooler RGB cases. I also wouldn't bother replacing the motherboard too much $$$ and hassle when you could just like, add some RGB light strips off of amazon for cheap.

u/KayoticSully · 1 pointr/buildapc

How about Corsair - Crystal 570X RGB

I'm looking for something very similar for my next build in a few months. I'd love to know what you end up going with and how you like it. The thing I don't like about this corsair case is I don't think you can turn the RGB lights off.... which is something I want to be able to do.

u/Metaldrake · 1 pointr/buildapc
u/Freshsqueezedpaint · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Yea that’s one of the reasons why I asked. I work with glass so I was wondering how a case like this could work.

u/CoachSpo · 1 pointr/buildapc

Looking for some guidance on a cooling setup for my new build:

Here are the components:

Board: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T2FWCYG/

Case: Corsair Crystal X570
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LE0ZKR2/

GPU: EVGA 2080TI FTW3 Ultra (air-cooled)
https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-rtx-2080-ti-11g-p4-2487-kr/p/1FT-001K-003E4

CPU: Ryzen 9 3900X
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SXMZLP9/

What cooling setup would you recommend? Do I need to get a fan controller?

The case comes with 3 x 120mm fans, but I'd like to replace them with Corsair 120mm RGB fans for added control over the lighting.

I was considering a 6 x 120mm setup (3 fans up front, 2 top, 1 rear) but not sure if the motherboard can support that many fans (does the fan from the included CPU-cooler count toward the total?)... or if that's even an ideal setup.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you!

EDIT: Here are the possible fan configurations for the case, but I'm not sure what's the optimal configuration and what parts I'd need to wire them to the mobo

If you need to put in a DVD player, I recommend this one. It’s the one I use and I am pretty happy with it

Coming from a world of laptops and Macs I have a followup, though: How big of a case would I need? Would something like this one be enough or do I need a big tower?

u/osprey87 · 1 pointr/buildapc
u/schlooge · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Don't know your budget but the Enthoo Pro M is a beauty.

u/VikkyH · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Perhaps the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M?

Another contender might be the Thermaltake Suppressor F31, it seems to open up on the front like a door to reveal the 5.25" bay.

u/tmalik616 · 1 pointr/buildapc
  1. You could consider an air cooler like the NH-D14 or NH-D15 which has the same or better cooling capabilities as the h100i, but is cheaper and much quieter.

  2. That case is nice, but a tad expensive. You could look at the Fractal Design Define R5 or the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M

  3. You should spend an extra 10$ and get the EVGA 650W G2 Gold Certified Fully Modular PSU. Your build doesn't need more watts than 650. Also with fully modular PSU, it will help a lot during cable management.

  4. The MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X is cheaper and runs cooler.
u/Surferbobgolf · 1 pointr/buildapc

Is that the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M, which is mentioned below?

Link

u/HaroldSax · 1 pointr/buildapc

I stan Phanteks cases something fierce. I've built in the P350 and P400 multiple times for friends and they're great cases for their price range.

If you're adding 4 fans to it though, I might recommend going to the Enthoo Pro M. It's a bit more expensive, but has a larger interior that makes having several fans a lot easier to work with. It also has a rack of sorts for a radiator, although you can just put fans on it. Slides in and out, really dope. I have the smaller window version rather than the full tempered one like my link that was less expensive but I haven't been able to find that one for ages now. I think they may have discontinued it. If you can find it somehow, it'll probably be about $10 more than the P350X (if the prices are similar to when I purchased) and it's just a smidge better internally.

However, if you want that RGB, then you go with that RGB big dog.

u/SlayerGM · 1 pointr/buildapc

I am either going to get this Tempered Glass case or this Acrylic case and they both seem plenty big enough for that card, but I will make sure.

or

Those would be my picks here. Both have a 5.25in slot for a fan controller, and both can be fitted with tempered glass. The CM model is modular, so you can fit it out more to your liking. Would cost more to fit with glass, since you'd have to order it from them. The Phanteks Pro M TG model is VERY nice though. I guess this all boils down to how much cash you want to spend.

Phanteks P300 just in case the link doesn’t work and also my room tends to be hotter than other parts of the house could these two factors have a role in the temps?

u/ConqueefStador · 1 pointr/Amd

I know MSI has some sort of offer going on with that MOBO right now for a free AIO with it so I'd look into that.

Overall though that board has not received great reviews, though I think it's mostly for it's VRM so if you're not planning to overclock you might be ok.

Also I'd consider upgrading the GPU. Many RX 580s are selling at $200 or below right now which at max would be $70 more than you're current choice, so still with in your budget.

For instance the Sapphire Pulse RX 580 8gb is $170 and also comes with 3 months of Xbox Game pass and Devil May Cry 5. You can either use those or sell them on something like /r/SteamGameSwap (note, these are redeemed through AMD rewards which does a hardware check for AMD cards so they can only be redeemed by people with the right card in their system.)

Also that case seems really overpriced. If you really want an overpriced pretty looking case I'd suggest the NZXT H510 Elite, $170, but it's free shipping and no taxes if you order directly from their site. That case is all about the looks though and really doesn't have the feature set to justify the price tag, it's for people who don't care about the premium and want that front panel tempered glass look.

Otherwise there are plenty of solid cases that look nice with glass side panels for less than $100.

The Fractal Design Meshify C has decent thermals and looks pretty nice for around $85-$100 (depending on the color.)

Phanteks has a case similar to the one you listed for just $60

NZXT Also has some nice cases under $100. There are the "I" (intelligent variants) that come with a smart controller and some RGB strips for usually $30 more if you're into lighting.

Unless you really want the case you listed though I definitely suggest something else.

You're definitely going to need a 1070ti at least to be playing at 4k with any hopes of getting to 60FPS. I have a 1080 I bought on r/hardwareswap for $340. It's worth taking a look on there, because most of the cards in the upper tier of the 1000 series still have warranties. However, a 1070 can do 1440P with pretty decent frames, depending on the game. The games you have listed should be fine. I recommend the Phanteks P300, it's only $60 and has decent cable management. I recently used it in my Ryzen build. Also, ditch the CPU cooler, the Wraith cooler comes stock with the 2600 and is very serviceable. The bump down to 550W is smart also. Hope this helps!

yes it is! is it this one?

u/dmvpcbuilder · 1 pointr/GamingPCBuildHelp

I think it’s a solid build. My only suggestions would be:

1- if you shop around you might find for maybe $20 more you can upgrade your ram to 16GB
2- if you haven’t built a pc before then I highly recommend getting a semi-modular or modular psu. It may cost you $50 extra but it’s excellent for cable management and will help you a great deal if you’re building a microATX pc
3- lastly- I actually just made a build with that pc case and I absolutely hate it. I hate such a hard time navigating the case (my massive cooler didn’t help either). I don’t even put the plastic siding on it bc it gets so hot. I would highly recommend spending the extra money on this one instead - https://www.amazon.com/MasterBox-Magnetic-Transparent-Acrylic-Performance/dp/B0785GRMPG/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1563966213&refinements=p_89%3ACooler+Master&s=pc&sr=1-2

u/Grandmastersexsay69 · 1 pointr/virtualreality

The only way you could get a vr capable pc for under $700 would be to build one with buying the main components used off Ebay. Let me see if I can put together something:

Used Parts
GPU - $95
CPU, motherboard, and memory - $233

New Parts
Power Supply - $50
Hard Drive - $110
Case - $45

Total - $533

You'll still need a mouse and keyboard, which you can spend as little or as much as you want on. If you have a TV with an hdmi input, which you probably do, you can use that as a monitor. This will satisfy the minimum requirements for most headsets, but just barely. You would be better off getting a gtx 1070 over a 970.

GTX 1070 - $260

New Total - $698

That would give you a better experience, but is obviously more expensive. If you haven't built your own pc yet, don't feel intimidated. There are plenty of guides on youtube and it is very simple. It is also a right of passage. Putting it together yourself will also allow you to upgrade one component at a time later on. Used pc parts are usually pretty good. All the stuff I listed should be able to work for another 8 years or so, well beyond the time they will be obsolete. Feel free to ask any questions.

Not necessarily. I don't want to go to ITX. I liked that it had plenty of ventilation, had windows, was white, and had an SD slot, eliminating the need for an external dongle (provided the board supports it).

Thernaltake Core was pretty cool too. Same with the Master Box from Cooler Master

I would not recommend the 600B a better PSU is the SuperNova 550 which unlike the 600B has high quality components and a 7 year warranty and for your case forget the Deepcool, for 39$ USD you can get a MasterBox Q300L, for your graphics card you can get a RX 570 brand new for 100$ USD and will kick the 1050ti and you will also need a 1TB drive later on because just 240GB won't cut it.

u/penagwin · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

Thanks for the reminder! I have a few cards laying around I'll use. The case I'm just buying is this one on amazon for 30$ Unless something else catches my eye, I figure with shipping costs used would be a hard route to go for the case.

u/John0nly · 1 pointr/pcmods

Then your choices for a case are only limited to itx, nearly every tower case you come across will support mATX and ATX, then you have Full Tower cases that would make that little motherboard seem out of place. Tons and tons of good options from $60 and up.

As others have touched on, a good modular power supply unit will not only be more efficient/reliable (especially if you want to OC anything!), it will help take care of cable management. I have always went for "full modular", semi modular will have a 'pony tail' with the motherboard, cpu, and gpu connectors rolled into one. It's nice to be able to route each PSU cable where you want imo.

So then there are your two main issues, cable management and airflow. You have a decision to make regarding the case, I understand liking how a prebuilt case looks because some do look nice. If you want to stick with that case you need to figure out how to mod it to increase airflow. Generally speaking, switching to a aftermarket case will be simple and increase your cooling performance twice over without having to mod a thing.

I use and always recommend EVGA PSU's because they generally perform great in benchmarks and come with a 10yr warranty: 550w Gold

If it were me I'd build in this case just for the hell of it for $40: CM Masterbox

Here's another case that would be good in your situation: Corsair Air 240

All depends on your budget.

u/sn0wbreeze · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

Thank you! One quick question, would everything fit in this case? And also, what mobo with wifi would you recommend (Since the one you suggested doesn't come with wifi)

Most genuine mini cases are expensive, so I would recommend 3 brands: coolermaster, thermaltake, and Rose will. Best looking IMO: MasterBox Q300L mATX Case w/Magnetic Design Dust Filter, Transparent Acrylic Side Panel, Air Flow Performance by Cooler Master https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0785GRMPG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_DoS2Cb278CFYF

Comes with usb 3.0 and provides lots of airflow space. Only downside I see is that the clear panel is acrylic.

I bought this and it fits my long card plus the mesh is magnetic.

Master Cooler Q300L

u/spicedpumpkins · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

I've built only once in this case. There is NO ledge to hold the tempered glass in place. Instead it's supported on 4 rubber grommets that you screw the TG to the case.

At $40 it's a good deal.

Fit and finish on the particular one I built was a tiny bit spotty such as the paint on the interior was slightly uneven. The front panel didn't match perfectly flush the case itself which is minor. It only has a single column of tie downs on the back.

It's got plenty of room on the back side for cable management. The case can support 5 fans. Front mesh for really easy and good airflow.

I think it's main competition is the Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L which gets a lot of hate in this sub.

Bottom line is it's $40 (after MIR) and gets the job done. The pros outweighs the cons and the cons are minor.

I would get this and this but everything else looks pretty solid. Also some more fans and maybe an rx580. With all of that it’ll be like $50-$100 more I believe, but it’s all worth it.

u/Evolievolution · 1 pointr/buildapc

Buying parts for my first PC today and i'm still a bit on the fence about the case. This one was recommended to me, but it's a bit too pricey for me, so i was wondering if either of these two would work aswell:

Option 1 or Option 2

I like both more visually and they're both cheaper, but i'm not sure if they would work for my build. Not sure what i need to look out for, so would appreciate some help.

(I'm also open to suggestions for Cases, haven't done much digging)

Gonna paste the build here, so see for yourselves.

Hi.

I'm in the process of moving soon so I don't currently have the case of my final build (I want one less thing to pack when moving out) so I would be testing that everything works before I move in my current ATX tower, but once that's done I plan to buy something like this case so that's a good starting point.

As to the monitor I don't have a freesync one at the moment.

u/CrippledAnatomy · 1 pointr/buildapc

Sweet thanks for all the info think I'll go with the 2700, definitely cheaper and I think itll do fine with what I need it for.

While I got you here I dont suppose you can recommend a good small case for an matx motherboard. The smaller and cheaper the better but not at a cost of cooling

When I do the upgrade I'm gonna take the asrock ab350m and the 2400g and put it in a build for my friend. I'm probably gonna use the wraith cooler that comes with the 2700 in it since I already have a 240 aio that will handle the 2700 just fine.

So it has to fit:
Asrock ab350m
The wraith cooler(unless you can recommend a better one)
1ssd
Msi rx570 armor 8gb oc
Power supply unknown, idk if the extra one I have fits this board

So far this one is the best most affordable I've found I would like to find one with at least one drive bay even if it's one of the slim ones and the clear side it best but unnecessary for him

I personally adore my Fractal R5 Define case -- it is close to £100 but my computer has been whisper-quiet with it.

Specs: states can fit cards up to 310mm with drive cages, and 440mm without. But if I recall it blocks 2-3 bays at >310mm, and the computer has 8 bays in total so...

u/judge_ned · 1 pointr/dayz

I'd be dubious, the accepted wisdom is that the game runs much better on Intel CPUs. It seems to me all your buying is a rig where all the parts are in need of upgrading.

I started playing on a crappy system and then built a decent one - there's no comparison, it's like having a different game altogether.
Crappy system - you're at a major disadvantage in nearly every PvP situation, can't see thru windows, FPS plummets as soon as you go into a built up area etc. etc.

If you've got the budget for something better don't buy it, Spend the $200 on something that you'll never need too upgrade like this and this add whatever else you can afford and if you can't complete inn one go save for the rest.

The only reason I'd buy that computer is if I knew it would take me a year or so to get the money together for something better and I wanted to learn the map in the meantime. That's not necessarily a bad option - there's a lot of map to learn and the game won't hold you hand too much.

u/hse97 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I personally think the Corsair Carbide is the best all around case that's designed to be silent.

Fractal Design's Define R5 is also a really good choice. I'm actually going with their Mini-Define for my microATX build I'm trying to build right now.

I can vouch for the NZXT S340 case. It's a $60 case that looks pretty high-end and sleek. I've had mine for the past year or so and my only complaint is that the paint scratches off kind of easily, so watch out for that if you have young kids or pets.

Phanteks Eclipse P400

Just two examples from the top of my head. Improved internal layout for better airflow/cooling and cleaner cable management. The Phanteks P400 also comes in a silent edition with noise dampening materials. Also RGB lighting.

As the for the PSU: The model is okay, just the smaller version with 550 watts would be enough.

I was thinking of this bundle from Microcenter: http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx (4th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-4790K 4.0GHz LGA 1150 Processor with Z97-Gaming 5 LGA 1150 ATX). However, would a quad-core be good enough? I really don't want to go over $1200.

Since you said Nvidia, I was thinking of getting this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127832.

For the case I was thinking about the NZXT S340: http://www.amazon.com/NZXT-Tower-CA-S340MB-GR-Matte-Black/dp/B00T4BWUUY

Not sure what to get for the other components. I know I want at least a 750W power supply that's modular.

Thanks!

Hi, I'm looking for the smallest MicroATX case under $~40 that still fits a 10.7 inch graphics card (ASUS R9 380) and doesn't look terrible. Right now I'm looking at the Rosewill SRM-01. Thanks!

u/iiDropShotz10601 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Hmm... but when I was doing my research, the Rosewill Inc. themselves said that the gtx 1050 is compatibale with their case. The case came with a bag of screws as well but there were 3 different types of screws but at least 10 to 15 screws in all.

Geez that's a lot of HDD, I would of suggested a more conventional ATX case with no optical/hdd cage and powersupply cover such as a Phantek P400S.

If you're using a couple of these purely for storage you could leave them outside of the case and use a HDD dock to use the extra ones.

xD Ill just throw some cases that look flashy (they all have different color options) you'll probably need to look around your self and find what you like.

/u/Jonathinater i realise that pci-e is better , but i would prefer to use the m.2 as the case im planning to use is the thermaltake core p5and as you can see everything, i would far prefer it if i didnt go the pci-e route.
Update: whilst waiting for a response i came across this wifi antenna set im pretty sure that it would be compatible with my motherboard , but i would still need a m.2 wif/bluetooth card (the bluetooth part is actually more important to me).

Got a few noob questions incoming!

I am currently building my water cooled PC Here's the PCPartpicker Link

I am currently deciding between the Lian Li case in the part list or the Thermaltake case you use

Would the Lian Li case be doable for a water cooling setup like yours?

Still doing my research on water cooling, but how did you get the coolant to be green? I was thinking of doing orange or blue for mine.

And I guess in general, how difficult is it to set up water cooling? My old rig was just fan cooled but since I have more disposable income I can do water cooling for the aesthetics.

Quick note, my PCParpicker list is short hard drives cause I'm just moving my old hard drives over.

u/Mancakee · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm not familiar with water cooling components but just as an FYI Thermaltake makes a wall mounted case that I don't think many people know about. It's meant meant for water cooling setups and is a great option if you are wary about building a custom mount for your wall.

Hokay, so your budget is actually quite huge, but I thought of this case (which kinda screams "Lan box" IMO) and just had to get it in there. If you don't like it, here are some others that came to mind:

Would you like wifi? I would have much preferred to put this mobo in instead, but wasn't sure if I should since the Amazon version was so much more expensive.

The PSU selection was a bit limited due to the case as well, and I had to get pretty far up in price to find a fully modular unit that I liked. I feel kinda bad about going over on such an easy budget!

All I have is Ryzen 3 2200g and RX 580 and it'll do 1080 60 all day apart from AC Odyssey and Origins. Can still play a ton of games at 1440p 60.

You may want to post this to the newly created /r/LinuxHardware, It'll likely get much more attention than this subreddit :)

As for your build and questions, lemme take a crack at it...

  • While the i3 is a good processor, you may find yourself being quite limited in the near future due to it being only a dual-core CPU. An i5 would be a significant, and worthwhile investment. However I would personally recommend you hold off on purchasing the parts for this build (if possible) until January of next year, as that is when AMD will be releasing their new Zen CPUs, which look to be extremely competitive with Intel (unlike their current line-up, which is terrible). This will likely cause a significant price drop on all CPU's, meaning you will be able to get something far superior to what you currently have planned for the same price.

  • If you don't foresee yourself ever needing a PCI-E slot for some other component, you may want to consider an ITX motherboard, as that would allow you to get an even smaller case, which is always nice :)

  • As /u/Stealer0517 mentioned, Crossfire or SLI is virtually never worth it. It may become worthwhile if Vulkan or DX12 really catch on, and the Multi-GPU aspect is integrated into the game well, but until then, I would recommend a single card.

    >Will I be able to boot off a USB-drive when all my components are brand new and 'blank'?

Yes, a USB drive with a distro .ISO written to it should boot straight up into a Live environment for you to install, though you may have to select the USB drive to boot from in the BIOS.

    >Do I safely assume here that the preloaded BIOS (or UEFI, not sure what it is nowadays) on my mobo will drive my monitor and keyboard for the pre-installation process of Linux?

Absolutely. As long as the Motherboard isn't faulty, it will be able to display to your monitor either through your GPU, or the integrated GPU in your CPU, and any normal USB mouse & keyboard will be automatically detected and usable.

    >would I be wise to get 16GiB of RAM?

More RAM is always a good thing, especially for VM's. However RAM is kinda expensive right now due to a shortage, so I would recommend getting 8GB for now, and upgrading to 16 of the same type/speed later. r/VFIO will be able to give you a better answer than I can, as I haven't dabbled with VMs much.

    >Do motherboards support or lack support for Linux?

In general, most motherboard manufacturers support Linux pretty well, however some specific boards can have issues. You'll have to check on a case by case basis to found out if there is some incompatibility problems with Linux. (searching the model of the board + Linux in a search engine should be adequate).

I've personally had bad luck with ASUS boards, not specifically with Linux, but in other ways (2 different boards made years apart that simply cannot reset without manually holding down the power button every time). But that may have just been a fluke.

    >Will an i3-6100 be able to handle 2-way CrossFire of a couple RX 460s "without bottlenecking"?

It would largely depend on the game, but it is possible for an i3 to bottleneck in heavily threaded games. In games that don't use more than 2 cores (Skyrim), it would not bottleneck much if at all. But considering the appeal of these new API's (Vulkan & DX12) is how good they are at spreading the load across multiple threads, I would wager an i3 becoming obsolete rather quickly.

    >If I get an i5 can I forgo overclocking?

Yes. I would actually recommend you don't get an overclockable K series CPU, as not only do these newer generation chips overclock badly and cost far more, I believe the K series do not have the required instruction sets for GPU-Passthrough in a VM.

The K series simply isn't worth it. I would recommend getting the cheapest i5 possible, if waiting for Zen is not in the cards.

    >Would I get performance improvements from CrossFire connecting 2 entry level GPUs anyway?

Yes, though crossfire currently only works in titles that explicitly support it, and even then often introduces a perceptible stutter in games, even if the FPS is high. I also believe Crossfire has much less support under Linux compared to Windows.

In benchmarks, the 460 is generally 40 to 50% weaker than a stock RX 470, which would mean even in a best case scenario, crossfired 460's would get you to stock 470 levels of power. And it more than likely would be even less than that, as Crossfire tends to not scale linearly.

So in conclusion, 2 460's would cost the same as a single 470, while giving less performance, and using more power :P

  • Do be aware that AMD drivers on Linux still under-perform compared the Windows drivers, or Nvidia Linux drivers. AMD recently killed off their old buggy proprietary driver, and went whole hog into helping develop the open-source driver with the community. Because of this, the open-source drivers have come leaps and bounds in the last year, already surpassing the performance of the old drivers, while being very stable. They are slowly improving with every kernel update. :)

Here is a recent benchmarking article comparing AMD and Nvida cards on Linux, which show the current disparity between the 2 drivers.

Saying that, I personally switched from an Nvidia GTX 760 to an RX 480 due in part to Nvidia's business practices, as described in this video, as well as to support AMD's open-source efforts.

  • Lastly, whichever card you end up going with, I would recommend that you buy it from Jet.com, but through the Ibotta app. The reasoning for this is to utilize multiple discounts, allowing you to pick up an RX 470 (or GTX 1060) for around the price of a single 460.

How this is done: Signing up to Ibotta will give you $10 for your first rebate redemption (which you can achieve by using the 50 cents off coupon for any grocery store receipt), on top of this you will get 5% back on any purchases on Jet.com, as long as it is done via the ibotta app.

On top of those, Jet.com itself gives 15% off up to $30 on your first 3 purchases. Combined with the ibotta thing, that results in roughly $52 off any card on their store. :)

While this does at first look shady as all getout, I can personally attest to it being legit, as it's how I got my RX 480 for such a good deal :P

And no, I'm not a payed shill, as Jet.com normally has pretty terrible prices were it not for this coupon deal, and the ibotta app is only marginally useful after using it for this. I learned of this method from r/AMD and r/BuildAPC.

Anywho, hopefully that was all of some help. I wish you the best of luck in your future Linux build! :D

Oh, and uh...If you do sign up to Ibotta, you can put in the referral code: cdccwpc

    during sign-up, which'll send $5 my way. :3

So for $10 of led strip and $25 of controllers you'd be able to make 10 sets of strip kits for $35. Selling at $20 each would net $200 and then $165 after materials and probably $130 profit after shipping and magnets. You can probably get an even better deal on the rgb led strip as well to increase profits.

Overall I'd say it is a pretty good deal but I wouldn't buy it for only 1 foot of led strip. Especially not $8 for another foot. Great for people who don't want to solder and/or just want an easy kit. This however, also exists and is only $17 with prime shipping.

For $50 bucks, you cant go wrong with the Deepcool DUKASE V2. It comes with 2 color variants, black and white. For LEDs, I suggest you to get these DIY RGB LEDs. Cheaper and serve the same purpose.

However, looking at your rig setup, I guess you are not a gamer? RX460 isn't a very strong GPU for modern AAA gaming.

u/thecolonelofk · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Here's one.

It's worth noting that depending on how you have them set, the cheaper ones won't look perfect. They work by having a red, a green, and a blue dimmable LED next to each other in the strip, so you might get some kind of rainbowing effects., where you can see the light from each LED. They still work perfectly fine, but if you have anything too close to them you'll get more of one of the 3 LEDs hitting that more directly.

u/Redditenmo · 1 pointr/buildapc
  1. If you're buying an AIO, don't get a 2700x, just get the 2700. The 2700x's advantages are a better stock cooler and better stock clocks. Both CPU's overclock the same, and your mobo supports automatic overclocking, so with an aftermarket cooler they're effectively going to be the same CPU, but at different prices.
  2. If you're just gaming (eg. not streaming or doing mutli threaded productivity tasks) you could get an R5 2600 and it would offer the same performance as 99.9% of games don't utilise the extra cpu cores / threads that a 2700 offers.
  3. Given your case has a window, I'd suggest swapping to an m.2 based sata SSD (it's just a form factor change, prices and speeds are about the same)
  4. Spending $80 on the 2 extra RGB Fans for the AIO is kinda dumb, eg. you could get this AIO that includes RGB fans, saving yourself $50. You won't really see those fans though anyway, as you've got a solid front cover.
  5. I feel similarly about $120 on 3x RGB fans, seems like it'd be a lot cheaper to get 3 plain fans and a seperate RGB kit
  6. The money saved on RGB fans would likely be sufficient to upgrade to a 1440p/144hz monitor.
  7. Your PSU is fairly low quality too, I'd suggest getting something better given the overall price of the system.

    Build with changes: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/dwsGCb

    >Also please excuse how stupid this sounds (Like I said this is my first PC build) but do the AIO fans push or pull? and what should my Fan setup be?

Depends on how you set them up.

Imo, in your case, you should use 4 fans on the AIO, 2 on each side with the AIO in the middle (this would be a push/pull setup)

Pair that with 1 exhaust fan at the top -rear of the case and one exhaust fan at the rear of the case.

u/brentguthrie1996, I'm replying here because it's impossible to keep track of conversations in reddit's inbox.

Regarding Reviews:

  • Motherboard has no reviews because it is technically brand new, but it is just a slightly modified version of the non-max model. It has plenty of reviews on Amazon and on Newegg.
  • Memory is memory, and there's no need to look at reviews. They're all the same as long they have the same specs and come from a well-known brand.
  • Case: has 1000+ reviews on Amazon.
  • If you have any other questions about a specific part let me know.

    Motherboard Compatibility

MSI's MAX series motherboards were specifically released to be compatible with Ryzen 3000 series cpus. PCPartpicker gives you that warning because all it knows is that it is a B450 motherboard, and most B450 motherboards require a BIOS update to be compatible. However, at this point most B450 motherboards have been updated to be compatible with Ryzen 3000. The problem is if you order online instead of going into the store, you don't know if you'll get an older version that hasn't yet been updated. That's why I'm recommending the MAX motherboard which is guaranteed to be compatible.

    Note on Memory

3600mhz CL16 memory is now available at a good price. $85 G. Skill Ripjaws. You should get this instead of the 3400mhz memory in the original build.

Good thread. I don't want glass either. It gets prints on it, costs a premium, has to be cleaned, can be shattered, is bad for the environment and sentient beings and is highly unlikely to be recycled. Although if you are a conscious person you can smash it up wtih a metal pipe, bricks or a 2x4 until it becomes sand like.

Glass is a backwards gimmick to indebt people more.

I was given an even cheaper case - will this work with my build?

u/ZombieOfun · 1 pointr/buildapc

Will do! I'll be off work in about an hour so I'll start working on it then. Case is this.

It's not a fancy case but I hope it will get the job done

u/LordofKleenex · 1 pointr/buildapc

If you plan on going micro-ATX, the Thermaltake Versa H-15 is a fantastic deal for $28. It has great airflow, just no bells and whistles.

u/transam617 · 1 pointr/CabaloftheBuildsmiths

>I know at this point I am pretty much just being nitpicky, but will the yellow color of the RAM be apparent when inside the case? It'd be better if the colors matched a bit better. Would something like the G.Skill Ripjaws V in this 2x4GB alignment perform well with this setup of speeds at either DDR4-3733, 3200, or 3000?

Spending that much extra just so you don't have to paint ram is silly IMHO. Paint wont hurt cooling much and you can make them whatever color you like.

>Any suggestions for a case around that price that is microATX with a window (and if possible a PSU shroud)? This is the list of cases under $65 and to be honest not a lot of the cases on there are great, and those that stand out are more around $60.

Understood, but if we are being efficient, a mid ATX case is going to save money, and fit the PSU (referring to your post below). Going with the carbide 88R, define c mini or masterbox 3 would just be spending more money to be smaller, compromise part fitment and likely cool worse. If it has to be smaller, the masterbox would be best - comes with two 140mm fans and is widest for CPU cooler clearance. Fractal runs second coming with two 120mm fans and being a bit narrower. Carbide only comes with one fan, I wouldn't waste time with it.

>I did some research and found that the Thermaltake H15 case that you linked earlier is not sold in NA, but is sold in Aus, UK, LatAm, and more.

Strange, amazon seems to think its available. But no matter we're on to windows anyway.

Price is creeping up with this smaller case configuration, and we've already sacrificed 8G of ram in the name of looks and size...

Something like this, or this if you like cube cases. Case choice is definitely personal choice though, so whatever looks good and has good reviews

u/GintyOttoV · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

fair enough. You wont be able to get the RGB's to sync with your GPU as far as I can tell ( I am researching this now) without an Aura capable controller (even with a Hue) so you may as well get something with 4+ stars on amazon and call it a day.

Maybe this?

u/Pliable_Patriot · 1 pointr/buildmeapc

case comes with 1 120mm RGB fan, but is only available in black.

one easy way to add RGB is a [RGB strip] (https://www.amazon.com/Tingkam-RGB-Attached-Controller-Generation/dp/B01HXPPUR2/ref=sr_1_4?crid=CKXYITWCVZY5&keywords=pc+rgb+strip&qid=1567206275&s=pc&sprefix=pc+rgb%2Celectronics%2C879&sr=1-4), or [RGB fans] (https://www.amazon.com/upHere-Wireless-Airflow-Adjustable-Radiators/dp/B07DHM6SW9/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=)

So for a white case, here is one option

I could also make some other recommendations for a white case if you want to order from Best Buy online from another retailer.

u/TheDreadfulSagittary · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

I've seen RGB strips on Amazon for 15, 20 dollars. Stuff like these. Haven't used them myself however.

u/kaylaXkitten · 1 pointr/buildapc

What's your budget? Here's an LED strip on amazon for $20
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HXPPUR2/?tag=pcpapi-20

u/upular1 · 1 pointr/buildapc

For the case I would recommend a NZXT S340 or a Inwin 303. It would make a great case for a white/black build. As for lighting there is this https://www.amazon.com/Tingkam-RGB-Attached-Controller-Generation/dp/B01HXPPUR2/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1502491808&sr=8-13&keywords=rgb+led+strip+for+pc

or if you need a longer one they have those on amazon.

u/Lepord829371 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Ok, well if no Ultrawide, then your build looks awesome. I wouldn't change anything.

As far as color scheme goes you should have gone with the MSI gaming 770 for the red, but otherwise looks nice. If you had purchased some things from places other than newegg you could have saved yourself 75 bucks or so

Cheaper PSU perhaps?

    OK so whats in here.

3570k: what why? well it runs cooler will OC higher(with the h60) and is more than enough for gaming

H60: because a big bulky cpu cooler looks dumb and i dont know how well it would fair in a system always getting moved around. i never trusted strapping one of those things onto a MOBO. h60 block is low profile and secure.

MOBO: its a z77 have a nice day

Memory: 16GB because people think ,more memory is more better, so when you tell people about your computer they will be impressed. 8GB is good enough though

storage: you didn't say a use case. but if your going on the rigs you may want to load up some movies or tvshows 1tb is lots but again its easy to add more. also boot SSD because its cool

GPU: 780. reference blower design is good for small form factor cases and the 780 is the best card for gaming right now

case: is up to you but i think the prodogy looks nice

PSU: 80plus gold= good, seasonic = good, modular = good

OS: again up to you. i dont like 8.

budget in another $150 for the monitor, $100 for key bored and mouse.

provide feedback or more information for your use case and i will make a better build

The Bitfenix Prodigy is an old but reliable case that's very small. If you want something newer and more slick, I'd get the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX. It's an easy case build in for an ITX and it looks great. This is the smallest case I've ever seen. It doesn't accommodate a GPU though.

u/AwesomeSuperZ · 0 pointsr/buildapcforme

This will play any games hands down 4k 120FPS High. The only other thing you could add is a 2nd graphics card.

CPU: Ryzen 9 3900X

u/Lampropeltis77 · 0 pointsr/pcmasterrace

The Phanteks Pro M (mid-tower) costs a bit more than your current budget (it's $94), but it has great airflow and critical acclaim, unlike the case someone else linked here. It's the one I personally use for my system; I would recommend adding an extra fan or two to it, though (Noctuas are great).

Here's an Amazon link to it:

Phanteks Pro M Series (PH-ES515PTG_BK) Tempered Glass ATX Mid Tower Case, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LRVHH6K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_P2VQDb9KG51SD

Yes, it's black, but I really don't see why white vs black would be a game changer.

u/Russian_Doctor · 0 pointsr/buildapc

CPU - $278.45 (Newegg)
Mobo - $180` (Ebay - Approx) Asus P8P67
RAM - $140 (Amazon)
GPU - $430~ $410 Approx (Newegg)
SSD - $50 (Amazon)
HDD - $45 (Amazon)
Case - $60 (Amazon)
Cooler - $26 (Newegg)

Total will be approx $1200. I could be a good deal if all parts are purchased within 1 year. Otherwise go for new one, you can build a solid rig with intel 8th gen and 1070 in almost same price.
