I worked at a theaterpub and got to work on developing the popcorn process for the theater. The best theater popcorn uses a coconut oil base as the popping fat. You want to use pure coconut oil or get a product like this or this. These products are primarily coconut oil with annatto for coloring, and they are solid at room temperature. They are better than regular oils or butter flavored liquid popping oil because the coconut oil tastes richer and more unctuous.

You also want to get Flavacol popcorn salt. This is a commercial product, and I've never seen it offered in retail, but you can get it from Amazon. Flavacol is a superfine powdered salt with butter flavoring and annatto. It's a finer grind than the popcorn salt sold in grocery stores. When you make popcorn, you add the coconut oil to the pot, heat it up, then add the popcorn and the Flavacol. It sticks to the kernels as they pop, and the popcorn doesn't need to be salted after popping.

Finally, the butter. You can't use just straight melted butter, because the water fraction of the butter will soak into the popcorn and make it soggy. You need to use clarified butter. Melt a pound or so of butter in a pot on the stove, and let it simmer for awhile. You want to let the water underneath the butterfat reduce and boil away, but you don't want to let all of it boil away or the butter will burn. You want to allow the milk sugar in the water to begin to caramelize. This will flavor the butterfat with a wonderful, nutty aroma. Once that happens, let the butter cool, then pour off the fat. Use this clarified butter to butter your popcorn. It won't make the kernels soggy. You can refrigerate any leftover butter tightly sealed for next time.

Once you have butter on the popcorn, you can add flavorings. But anything you use needs to be very finely pulverized. That's why Kraft-style powdered cheese is so popular. Even powdered parmesan cheese like you get in the green can is too coarse to really stick, but you can pulverize it finer in a food processor.

One of my favorite seasonings is bacon, cheese and chive. The bacon needs to be fried crisp and drained well, then frozen before processing. You can't get it quite as fine as parmesan before it balls up, but you can get it close enough. Then pulverize some good parmesan, Reggiano or Grana Padana. Mix together the bacon and parmesan with some Kraft-style powdered cheese, dehydrated chives, black pepper, cayenne and a hint of garlic powder to taste. You can add a little cornstarch to this mixture to keep it from clumping.

---

If you like popcorn, you should try mushroom popcorn which pops up rounder. It's not my personal favorite, but it's used by lots of kettle corn companies, and the shape is distinctive.

Here's a good recipe for butter toffee popcorn. It's better than caramel corn, because butter, and the candy coating is more crispy. This recipe includes peanuts, so it's like Cracker Jack, only better. I've made this with alder smoked salt and toasted chopped almonds/pecans instead of peanuts, and it's a big hit. Sort of like smokehouse almonds with caramel corn.

That's more like it. If you can find it, use cane vinegar for best results. I'm a big fan of this brand. You should be able to find a vinegar/soy sauce bundle from them, too. Also, I would use more than one bay leaf.

Edit: here's the bundle.

Since nobody is truly answering you: olive oil has the highest amount of monounsaturated fat content out of all dietary lipids. Monounsaturated fats are linked to lower risk of heart and cardiovascular disease.

On top of that, virgin (unfiltered) olive oil contains a high ammount of polyphenols, an anti-oxidant that is linked to 'prevention of cardiovascular diseases, cancers, and osteoporosis and suggests a role in the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases and diabetes mellitus'.

Vegetable oil, on the other hand, contains Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are harmful in excess. Olive oil does not contain these. In small portions, vegetable oil might be quite fine for you, but if you are planning on consuming at least 500 Kcals worth a day, you might harm yourself over time.

The truth about all nutrition is that there simply is a lot we don't know. However, there are things that we can be pretty sure about, and one of those is that olive oil is healthier than vegetable oil.

Be careful though: a lot of olive oil out there is mixed with other oils, or just entirely fake. Around 75-80% of virgin olive oils sold around the world, are in fact not actually virgin olive oil.
Surprisingly, costco's kirkland brand has been found to be entirely real, and is quite affordable and available on amazon. I put a shot in my protein shake every day.

At the end of the day it's up to you, but in my opinion a longer, healthier life is worth a little extra money.

For all the people here wanting to know about ramen, I'd recommend also investing in some fried garlic in chili oil and sesame chili oil, along with always having some green onions on hand to toss in.

You might not want the chili oil products in your Shin Ramyun, but they go well in pretty much any non-spicy ramen.

Sure! I personally use [trader joes] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007UWNBYS/ref=mp_s_a_1_1/176-3360111-0316351?qid=1412091807&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40) coconut oil, but you can also get it cosmetic grade. You'll probably get a number of results if you just search it.

I use it for a great number of things, the main ones being

  • a mask for my hair. This usually consists of me microwaving it until it's warm and liquidy, and massaging it into my scalp and bringing it down to the ends. It doesn't need to be soaked in the stuff, just damp. This works best on my hair right from a warm shower, because it will be slightly damp and the hair shaft soaks up the oils better. Try to leave it in for a few hours, or better yet, sleep in it.

  • a moisturizer. My skin is very acne prone, and gets irritated very easily. The oil surprisingly never breaks me out, and leaves my skin baby soft. It's best to do this as a nigh time thing though, because it takes a while to soak in and applying makeup over it is problematic at best.

  • a substitute for shaving cream. The shave is soo close and my legs are like 10x smoother. Seriously you have to try this, softest legs ever.

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time! Learning about eating well can be really overwhelming. I've struggled with gaining weight at times too, so I can relate. I agree with some of the recommendations that have been posted so far (more frequent small meals, grains, bars, multivitamins).

My suggestions:

  • Try to consume high-calorie foods. IMO, the most convenient sources of calories are foods like bananas (a fast way to get 100 kcal), avocados (if you can afford them, lol), dried fruit, dark chocolate - 250 kcal per serving, 225 kcal per serving, granola, rice, quinoa, potatoes, and sweet potatoes. If you can find a trail mix with nuts, dried fruit, and dark chocolate, that’s a great way to get in some calories!

  • Eat healthy fats! Good sources of calories include nuts (especially almonds, macadamia nuts, and walnuts), nut butters (peanut butter, almond butter, etc.), and oils (olive oil, coconut oil). Honestly, one thing I've done before is to buy some coconut oil and eat a spoonful at a time (15ml has 123 kcal!). It doesn't taste like anything, so it's easy to eat, and it's a super-fast way to get calories.

  • You mentioned trying but not being able to tolerate Ensure. I highly recommend other forms of liquid calories, such as protein shakes or pre-made smoothies. These are some I like:
    • Naked Juice smoothies - these contain good-for-you ingredients, and some of them are good sources of protein, too. They're high in sugar, but all of the sugar comes from the fruit (plus it sounds like you need sugar).
    • Innocent smoothies
    • Orgain protein shakes: These are pre-made (ready to drink) and have 140 kcal + 20g of protein. You can also get Orgain in powder form, which is probably more cost-effective, but less convenient.
    • Sunwarrior rice protein powder is dairy-free and vegan. It has less calories than the Orgain (80 kcal + 16g of protein per serving), but it's less expensive.
    • If you decide to try a protein powder, I recommend getting a shaker bottle like this one - they make it so much easier to mix up protein shakes.

  • Definitely try some protein/snack bars, as /u/allycat-alison mentioned. I like Larabars, Luna/Clif bars, and Kind bars.

  • Your energy is probably low for many reasons (not sleeping because of stress, feeling depressed, not eating enough/low blood sugar) - another reason may be having low iron. You could try an iron supplement and see if that helps. Another potential source of low energy is depleted B vitamins, so a B-complex supplement could also be beneficial. This is a multivitamin I found that’s a good source of B vitamins, vitamin D (also related to energy), AND iron. It also contains vitamin C, which helps your body absorb the iron.

  • I know you said you didn’t want your family to find out (and unfortunately, keeping all of this to yourself is even more stressful!). I'm not going to advise you to talk to them, because I don’t know your situation. BUT, your family shouldn't get suspicious if they were to find out you had a physical - a physical is a standard thing that everyone should have regularly, IMO. I think it would be really helpful for you to have one, because your doctor can order bloodwork (again, totally standard/understandable/nothing that should raise eyebrows) and find out if there's anything contributing to your situation, like anemia or low thyroid function.

  • Does your uni have a student health center/offer counseling? I'm in the U.S., and many here do. It's usually included in your tuition, and it's anonymous, so no one would have to know. I would go by your health center and see if they have any nutrition and/or counseling services, because it sounds like you don’t have anyone to talk to, and you should!!

  • Lastly, remember that tobacco is proven to reduce appetite, so if you can, please try to take your friends' help with quitting tobacco. You could also try cessation products like nicotine gum, lozenges, or the patch. Did marijuana not help your appetite? I almost always get the munchies!

This is not exactly the same thing, but this should be worth trying, and closest one you can get on US (US Amazon)

If you were interested: as others mentioned, this reads
"京 らー油 ふりかけ(Kyo Raa-yu Furikake)", meaning 1)Kyoto-style 2)Raa-yu flavored 3)rice seasoning.
Raa-Yu is Chinese Chili oil used for hot Chinese dishes in Japan, like dumpling, ramen etc. (idk how it used in China)

Meanwhile what I put on the link above is "食べるラー油(Taberu Raa-yu)" which is not dried seasoning instead still oily and soaked in Raa-yu oil, but this also supposed to go on top of cooked rice.
As a matter of fact, what you have is made from the concept of these oily seasoning. So it should taste 90% same.

edit: the product from the link says "Layu" and that's the "Raa-yu" I've put. It doesn't matter whether it's L/R so I left the way it is..

Sure! Here is what I personally do for that picture:

  1. Weigh your Nutribullet cup & blade (or whatever blender you have). For example, the Nutribullet Rx 45 oz blender cup and the blade together weigh 720.5 grams.

  2. Pour 375 grams of cold water in Nutribullet Rx 45 oz blender cup.

  3. Add 5 packets of Splenda (Only because I’m using the Base Powder, which means I have to add my own sweetener) (And yes, I made the mistake of not knowing I needed to add sweetener a few times; my god that tasted awful.)

  4. Add 70 grams of Keto Chow Base Powder (5 servings)

  5. Add 150 grams of MyProtein Salted Caramel Together with the peanut butter, it will be roughly 25g protein for each of the 5 KC servings. (If you're using the pre-flavored Keto Chow, of course replace all of these 3 steps with just a single step of adding KC powder. Then re-calculate calories accordingly for how much avocado oil is needed.)

  6. Add 104 grams of Chosen Foods Avocado Oil (Adjust this up or down depending on how many calories you want.)

  7. Add 60 grams of Peter Pan Peanut Butter (200 calories per 32g serving) (Any peanut butter will do; this one is just cheap.) Note that this is less than 2 servings for 5 meals of Keto Chow. This helps to a) keep the net carbs and sugar down but b) still taste amazing!

  8. Add another 375 grams of water on top of all the ingredients. Water on the bottom AND the top helps to blend really well. Blend it all up for a smooooooth silky texture.

  9. I calculated everything so it would be exactly 2000 calories for 5 meals. So therefore, each meal is 400 calories. The macros per meal are 28.72g fat | 3.9g net carb | 25.85g protein | $2.60. Not bad for $2.60, right?

  10. Now, as to how to pour it out so each serving is the same, as in the picture with all the nalgene bottles: Weigh the full blender and subtract the weight of the cup & blade alone (from step 1). For example, if my entire blender pitcher weighs 1870.5 grams, and the empty cup & blade weigh 720.5g, that means there is 1870.5 - 720.5 = 1150 grams of liquid. 2000 calories divided by 1150 grams of liquid = 1.74 calories per gram. If I want to measure out 400 calories, then that is just 400/1.74 = 230g liquid. So I measure 230g blended liquid into 4 containers. For the last one, I have to pour, add a little water to blender, close it, shake, pour it back in, repeat once more. I do this just to get every last calorie out! I also add 50-100g water to each nalgene bottle because I blend it a little thicker than I like just so that it fits in the Nutribullet. Then of course put the bottles in the fridge overnight like normal for easy grab and go in the morning.

  11. Adjust the avocado oil (or any of the ingredients) however you like to match whatever calorie target you want. I want 400 calories per meal, but you might 450 or 500 or 600, etc.

  12. [Edit]: To clarify, I only have 2 of these 5 meals per work-day Monday through Friday. I have one 400 calorie meal for breakfast, and one 400 calorie meal for lunch, Monday through Friday at work. I make 5 meals on Sunday (2000 calories) and that lasts me for Monday’s breakfast & lunch, Tuesday’s breakfast & lunch, and 1 leftover for Wednesday’s breakfast. I then blend 5 more KC meals on Tuesday night so that I have 1 more meal for Wednesday’s lunch, Thursday’s breakfast & lunch, and Friday’s breakfast & lunch. So then I have a total of 800 calories (actually 830 because of 2 fish oil capsules) before a normal physical keto food dinner each weeknight with my girlfriend since she likes to actually eat with me for dinner! (She DOES do KC for breakfast and lunch during the work-week too though, just like me, but she likes actually eating dinner!)

Anyway, that's how I make my Keto Chow! It might seem like a lot of work. HOWEVER, doing it this way, I only have to do it twice per week, since that makes 10 meals and I only have it for breakfast/lunch during the work-week Monday through Friday. And once you make your Keto Chow in bulk in a blender, you won't go back. It's so silky smooth, and blended together with the peanut butter, mind-blowingly delicious! Pretty freaking amazing for $2.60 per meal! I have lost about 45 lb doing this and have almost 8% body fat. And I have the abs to prove it, thanks to Keto Chow! (NSFW!) ;)

My MiL just uses white vinegar, but her Mom told me to use this:

I have since she told me. Always trust a Lola :P

It's important to understand that every human body is different, because every microbiome is different. Foods others can't tolerate you may be able to eat and vice versa. It took me several years to key in on a diet that works for me, and I still have difficulties sometimes.

Also when you first go paleo or low carb you may initially feel worse for a while as your body adjusts to using protein for fuel as opposed to carbs. It's called the "low carb flu" or "keto flu" and it impacts Lyme and non-Lyme folks alike. It does eventually get better, but there's some things that can be done to mitigate it:

Also make sure you're getting the "right" fats: Olive, coconut oil work the best for me. And you probably will need more fat than you actually think you do in order to feel good, so keep that in mind. I buy a big tub of this coconut oil in particular and it works for me:

There may still be something in your diet you're not doing well with. Or you're stressed out, which doesn't help. It takes some time to figure this out. In my case I can eat eggs and avocados, but I have severe panic and cold sweats in the morning if I eat too much fiber the night before. Hope some of this helps a little. Hang in there.

Datu Puti vinegar is the key to great adobo. With this vinegar, you don't need sugar in the marinade.

I have been doing only avocado oil for more than a year after doing only HWC for nearly a year. Other than it not quite being as thick, I love it and for me its easier to track my macros. I also know I am not adding additional carbs, where with HWC, despite it showing 0 carbs, actually has carbs. I buy my avocado oil through amazon and never noticed a difference in taste.

Make sure you find refined avocado oil. There is a lot of "virgin" avocado oil out there that has a significantly lower smoke point - around 375F. That stuff is great for your salad dressing, but not what you want for searing.

Example: Salad Sear

I don't endorse these particular brands, just the first examples I saw on Amazon

Can't speak to the bar, however a square or 2 of 90% choco w/ almond butter handles the cravings for me. Also a spoonful of coconut manna is amazing.

(Part 1/2)

Fitness wise: Along with r/Fitness, I would definitely recommend trying out "Sweat: Kayla Itsines Fitness" app. She has a bunch of workout routines/programs on the app. The best part is that you can slowly build up from your own fitness level and get to your goal essentially. Her workouts are amazing and I personally love it. Also, Jillian Michaels has some bomb workout videos out there and they show amazing results as well (though it is a little harder!)... 30 Day Shred is one of the best ones out there for sculpting your body!

Hair: I definitely like what notfitperson recommended. I like leave coconut oil on my hair/scalp for at least 1 hour before washing my hair... and on weekends, to take care of my split ends, dehydration and encourage hair growth, I generously apply a homemade hair serum overnight and wash in the morning/later in the afternoon. If I used a lot of hot tools/styling products during the week, I'll keep on the hair serum for 1-2 days to repair the damages. For the hair serum, I like to make it with: rosemary oil, castor oil, peppermint oil, and organic coconut oil. Also, I apply Lush hair masks every 2-3 weeks. I love those ones because they are made from natural ingredients and I store them in the fridge. I even use the castor oil and coconut oil that I linked on my lashes every night before bed... if you do it religiously on both top and bottom lashes every night, you will have longer, fuller and healthier lashes! Castor oil is amazing for hair growth/repair, but it has a really thick consistency ... you gotta mix it with a light oil like coconut oil or olive oil!!!

Makeup:

If you have a limited budget, I would honestly hold off on getting luxury makeup right away and practice with drugstore brands first. Then upgrade!

Eyes/Brows:

I would get one neutral palette for everyday looks.

Brow pencils/gel/pomade ...ABH is the best out there, but the most expensive

Mascara: Better Than Sex by Too Faced is one of the best out there. A dupe that is comparable to that mascara that is cheaper and also a really good quality is the L'Oreal Paris mascara. It is amazing!

Lips:

Nude/pinkish lipstick for everyday looks - Dulce Vita by Nars is a popular one and it has a blue-ish undertone which helps your teeth appear whiter (bonus!)

Classic, matte red lipstick that is good for everyday, date night or special occasion looks - Cruella by Nars is bomb!!! It looks good on everyone! I have yet to meet someone who doesn't look good in it! Totally worth the investment!

Pencil lip liner - Definitely get this (in a color closely matching your lipstick color)... because it helps reduce the lipstick from bleeding onto somewhere around your lips and helps keep your lipstick stay put!

Lip gloss - Buxom, Milani L'Oreal and L.A. Colors have really great, high shine ones!

*Exfoliate your lips using sugar and Vaseline OR sugar and olive oil to remove the dead skin before applying any lipstick... especially matte lipsticks! It hydrates your lips and makes a huge difference + prevents the cracked lips with lipstick look ...cannot emphasize this enough! Also, before starting your makeup... apply Vaseline/chapstick on your lips and do your lips last.*

Hi there! Whilst my hair is currently doing okay moisture-wise, I also struggle with a dry scalp/dandruff and flakiness. My scalp is also sensitive and and gets itchy when overloaded with products so I have to be careful of that. At the moment, my way of managing it is to low-poo (not CG-friendly) once a week and co-wash (also not CG-friendly) every 3 or so days. I always focus the low-poo on my scalp and roots. This eliminates 98%~ of my flakiness at the moment, and until I can afford a proper CG-friendly medicated shampoo, this is what I'm going to stick with.

I've also seen that Cantu has a couple of products that show potential, namely the Refresh Root Relief with Apple Cider Vinegar and Peppermint Oil and the Refresh Root Rinse With Apple Cider Vinegar and Tea Tree Oil, but I haven't had chance to try either out.

I have used the Cantu Shea Butter Tea Tree & Jojoba Hair & Scalp Oil, but I haven't used it directly on my scalp enough to definitively say whether it helped with my dandruff. However, I do occasionally mix it in either with my hair mask or my leave-in conditioner when I feel my hair is extra-dry and it does make a difference. If you aren't currently using any hair oils, perhaps looking for one would be a good place to start to help your dry curls?

If you want to look for a CG-friendly medicated shampoo, I would start with this list from the Science-y Hair Blog.

I'm sorry I cannot be more helpful but I hope this has at least given you a few ideas on where to start.

Adding to your great comment for Whirley-Pop no fail amounts:

  • 1/3 cup unpopped kernels
  • 2 tbls coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp Flavacol or fine salt

Heat the Whirley-Pop and oil until hot. Add popcorn and flavacol. Stir occasionally with the handle and remove when popping nearly stops. Add to a large container and and if needed, add a hint more Flavacol to the popcorn.

Bonus: Add ODell's Supur-Kist topping or Snappy Butter Burst for butter flavor.

I don't follow CG method but I use certain products to come up with my own routine.

Hair Wash Day-

Step 1: I comb through and massage my scalp and hair with Avocado Oil and use the Vanity Planet Scalp Massage and let it soak in for an hour. I specially use more oil on the ends.

Step 2: I use a hot towel to steam my hair a few times by the end of the hour

Step 3: Use OGX Biotin and Collagen Shampoo to wash off the oil.

Step 4:Condition with Cantu Hydrating Cream Conditioner

Step 5: Use a microfiber head wrap or a tshirt to remove excess water

Step 6: I then use a couple of dollops of Miss. Jessie's Pillow Soft Curl Cream and scrunch my hair .

Step 7, for the top of my head hair I use Frizz Ease serum and comb through and make it sit in place with Bobby pins(This makes the top part straight without me having to use heat at all)

Step 8: I let it dry naturally

Days following the wash:

--Post-Workout Care: I workout a lot and sweat in the scalp like cray-cray so I always wet my hair completely after the workout and use the already existing products in the hair to set it back, letting it dry naturally.

--Days after wash morning routine: I braid my hair at night and when I wake up the curls are almost always intact. But I do use a spray bottle already mixed with a few drops of Curl cream and re-scrunch the curls and let dry naturally.

--Next wash Schedule? -- I usually wash on day 3 with just Cantu's scalp rinse and use the conditioner. But like today if I don't have the time, I wet my hair completely by spraying water all over in sections and follow Step 6,7 and 8.

I do the deep oil conditioning atleast once a week. That is the only time I use the shampoo. For every following wash after the oil conditioning I use Palmer's Coconut Oil Formula Conditioner instead of regular conditioners.

You have all the basics covered, so might as well stick to that?

Other than that I would maybe consider (this is gonna be weird) getting these orange glasses to wear at night at least an hour before you sleep and this for the morning time (you can attach it to one of those timer things to turn on 15 minutes before you alarm clock).

Those are the only things I've ever bought from amazon that weren't cheaper somewhere else.

Or you could go with a gallon of coconut oil? Expeller pressed has very little flavour of it's own but contains less antioxidants and the like (although it's slightly cheaper too). Virgin has quite a bit of flavour and is healthier, but you might have trouble cooking some foods with it because of the flavour.

u/PJKimmie · 2 pointsr/Healthyhooha

I usually purchase it at Costco, but they do happen to have it on Amazon here!

I get colavita brand off amazon, it's not a bad price for that much olive oil even if it weren't infused. The garlic taste is like BAM, but in a good way.

Good luck to A whole new you! I've been working on myself since last September and only lost 17-18 pounds, but that's really close to my first goal of 20 pounds. I'd like to lose 30 more. I really think losing weight will help us conceive.

I've always had very fine and dry hair, so my regimen would not work for most girls.

I was horrified when I discovered that my hair was falling out an inch after the root due to straightening my hair twice a week. I was very upset because I've never failed to use heat protectant on my hair and always used the lowest heat setting. Clumps of hair were falling into the sink after every styling session.

My old method was to wash my hair every 3 days and straighten it. At the end of the day I would put my hair up in a braid to avoid having the styling fall out over night. I used a lot of hairspray, shampoo, and conditioner. In retrospect this was way too many products.

I work from Monday until Friday every week, and have weekends off. Therefore, Friday night my hair is kind of oily but it looks and smells clean. After my last client is finished I put some coconut oil in my hair for one or two hours and spend some time brushing the natural oils to the ends of my hair. It looks terrible at this point. When the time is up I wash the coconut oil out of my hair with my shampoo and conditioner. I normally never have to do this more than once. After this my hair is so soft, shiny, and beautiful.

The rest of the weekend I spend putting it up in a French Braid and washing with water twice a day. After it is dry again on Sunday night, I put it in three inch hair rollers and spray lightly with water. This sets my hair to give it Hollywood waves. Most of the time I'll have to lightly heat style the front strands of my hair. I also finish it off with two drops of coconut oil to give it some extra shine. After this my hair is ready to be put in pin curls for the night and I never spend more than 5 minutes in the morning.

For me, 5 days never gets my hair greasy because I never go to the gym to work out and rarely sweat. My apartment is always cool. I think this contributes to why I can last two days longer than most girls. My individual strands of hair are very fine, but my hair per square inch is quite thick. This is a terrible combination to control, so the above method works best for me.

My products:

Redken Extreme Shampoo

Redken Extreme Conditioner

Barlean's Coconut Oil
(I have the giant versions of all of these. I bought the salon container of Redken and haven't had to buy new shampoo or conditioner in 7 months because it's so huge. They must weight 5 pounds each!)

In all seriousness, washing your hair every day sounds nice, but it's extremely excessive. People with really thick strands and oily hair can get away with it, but I've never really heard of people actually washing their hair with shampoo every day unless they work out at the gym every morning and sweat a lot. I think most girl wash their hair with conditioner for three days, and then shampoo it. I have a friend who started balding because she washed her hair with a lot of shampoo once or twice a day since she heard that's what she should be doing. It wasn't. Please don't do this.

Please make sure you bath every night at least. I know I shouldn't have to say this, but someone may read this and think they only have to shower twice a week. I bathe once in the morning and once at night, but put my hair up so it doesn't get wet. You don't want to stink, you just want to keep yourself healthy. Plus, a nice bath really helps you relax. A lot of girls mention that 'swimming in your own sweat and grime' is disgusting. I don't really know how much dirt you can get on you within six to eight hours, but doing it twice a day should be more than enough, especially if you are using soap and washing it off.

I use coconut oil too! Just bought this stuff. It works great, and a small jar seems to last forever. Keep exfoliating!

Walnut oil not walrus oil. Though walrus oil sounds interesting

Only use oils that are made for high smoking points. Also, check for expeller pressed oils (hexane is not used in this process). I use Avocado oil for high heat cooking. Here is the amazon link.

PUT OIL IN IT.

I love the SkinFood Argan Oil Silk Hair Mask Pack, but a jar of Trader Joe's Organic Virgin Coconut Oil can be bought locally, does just as good of a job, and is more cost-efficient. I soak my hair in coconut oil and leave it overnight once a week now, and will continue to do so forevermore. It's better than any conditioner I've ever used and makes my hair very soft and shiny. I think the SkinFood mask feels a little more luxurious and is easier to wash off in the morning, but in terms of the long-term condition of my hair, both products do the same thing for me - plus, coconut oil can be used for a lot of other things, too: as a shaving gel, as a skin conditioner, and eating 2tbsp./day is so very, very good for you.

My favorites are:

Mahoney's walnut oil: https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Walnut-Oil-Mahoneys-Finishes/dp/B001F7JUDK

Tried and True Danish oil: https://www.amazon.com/Tried-True-Wood-Finish-Danish/dp/B0155AUTG4

The Mahoney's is the quicker of the two- slop on as much as the wood will take and wipe off. My production items like my cherry plates get a coat of it followed by beeswax.

The Tried and True is a little fussier but not much- it just needs to be applied a lot thinner than you're used to applying and ideally in three coats each a day apart, but damn does it ever look nice and it just gets better with age and stands up to lots of washing (moreso than the Mahoney oil).

I tried the General Wood Bowl/Salad Bowl finish once and hated it- it left a film finish, but not enough of one to be impressive, started to give the work that tacky fake plastic sheen I don't like. And, it's not truly food safe (unless you subscribe to the "all wood finishes are food safe" hypothesis). It has solvents and driers. The two that I linked are so non-toxic you could eat them in their liquid form.

Selson blue helped me a lot. It's better than head and shoulders the only issue with it is that it started drying my hair out. I would suggest using it every other wash.

I wouldn't suggest coconut oil for dandruff. Imo its more for adding moisture to your hair, if you apply it to your scalp you'll most likely end up with oily hair.

I love using apple cider vinegar mixed with purified water. Acv cleanses your scalp from product build up/ bacteria. A lot of people use it to fight dandruff. You shower like you normally would and then rinse your hair using the mixture. Make sure it really coats your hair, rub it into your scalp. You can leave it on or rinse it out after a few minutes. I personally leave it in but if you can't stand the smell then i recommend this

https://www.amazon.com/Cantu-Refresh-Rinse-Apple-Vinegar/dp/B01LTIAU5Q

It's got everything you need. The acv and tea tree oil to battle the dandruff and the shea butter to restore moisture to your hair. I recently started using this and i love it so much. My hair feels so soft and clean afterwards plus its inexpensive :-)

I hope these suggestions help. Dandruff sucks, i used to have it pretty bad too but these products completley took it away. I dont remember the last time i had flakes in my hair!

It's really a hit or miss depending on your skin. For some people its god sent, others totally hate it. I really Love this one It smells great! You can really tell the difference in quality compared to some you may just pick up at the store. If you didn't like it, it works great for cooking, lube etc lol

I use the Chosen Foods brand avocado oil. I'm still on my first bottle and never tried anything else, but I will say that this bottle never gave off any odd smells or flavors. https://www.amazon.com/Chosen-Foods-100-Pure-Avocado/dp/B00K4QF4HO/ref=pd_sbs_325_4/142-5358289-7768753?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00K4QF4HO&pd_rd_r=0059f3e7-ab5d-49da-aafd-afd04aa1bccb&pd_rd_w=gFfzl&pd_rd_wg=hPhQI&pf_rd_p=d66372fe-68a6-48a3-90ec-41d7f64212be&pf_rd_r=14ZNRCAJ3XHJ2B3E3Q25&psc=1&refRID=14ZNRCAJ3XHJ2B3E3Q25

Here's what I do (indoors mind you). I put the steak (still in the bag) in the freezer for 10-15 mins. I take my cast iron pan and put a little bit of avocado oil in the pan and wipe it around with a paper napkin. That's it. Put the stove on High and wait until the pan registers 500F using a laser thermometer (the cheap ones off amazon). Remove steak from bag and dry thoroughly with paper napkins and place directly on the pan with no additional oil. Heat one side for 1 minute, flip, and add a 1/4 stick of KerryGold butter along with some rosemary and garlic cloves and spoon it on the steak once the butter melts (fast!). After 1 minute, I'll flip one more time to spoon the butter on the other side of the steak and remove. For additional steaks, I do not put any more avocado oil in the pan.

> What can I eat that is cheap but has massive calories and fat to put on weight aside from jars of peanut butter?

LOL I was going to recommend peanut butter before I got to that. It's a super common, cheap, easy food I use when I'm bulking. Why not peanut butter? It's cheap, calorically dense, and goes with a lot of things. If I want to gain a few pounds, I just eat a few pieces of toast with PB a day on top of my normal diet.

Generally speaking, things that are high in fat will help you gain a little weight. Fat as a macronutrient has 9kcal/g, where carbs and protein only have 4kcal/g. The more calories you consume, the more weight you'll gain. Some fatty alternatives might be avocado, other nuts (almonds, brazil, walnuts, pecans), dark chocolate/cacao, coconut butter, or anything with a good amount of fat. Coconut manna tastes like heaven and has a ton of calories. I don't even buy the stuff anymore or I'll eat the whole jar in a single sitting.

> What are good grocery store options that don't require to you to shop everyday

Oats, rice, beans (lentils, black, kidney, garbanzo), nuts, seeds (flax, chia, hemp), pasta, quinoa.

This stuff is the best:

https://www.amazon.com/Cantu-Refresh-Rinse-Apple-Vinegar/dp/B01LTIAU5Q/ref=sr_1_53?keywords=cantu&qid=1549786667&s=gateway&sr=8-53

I add some tea tree oil (like 8 drops) to it and it really helps. Works well without additions too. Plus the applicator top is just right for getting to your scalp.

If you have rosemary, you can brew a tea with that, peppermint tea is also good, add honey and 5 drops of tea tree oil and apply. This is messier than the Cantu treatment but works well with ingredients you might have on hand.

Close, it's $45 on Amazon but I only use about half of it at a time and that half lasts for months with only occasional use (I strain and store it in a jar after it's cooled). A single gallon is good for me (and spouse) for roughly a year.

A fellow popcorn lover! The only addition I would make is that I like this for topping - it's the stuff my local theater uses.

Oiling does amazing things for your beard and underlying skin. Coconut oil is the closest you're going to get to an oil being being a paste- requested Amazon link- it liquifies fairly quickly from body heat. Fortunately after Argan oil it is one of the best beard oils.

However, you aren't going to want to use your badger brush to apply the oil, it'll coat the hairs and reduce the amount of water your badger brush is able to retain, use your fingers or get a cheap bristle brush instead.

On side note have you ever washed your bread with the Proraso? It's a really good beard soap, try it sometime.

u/mbutterfly32 · 1 pointr/Psoriasis

I actually do have really bad psoriasis on my scalp and have found coconut oil to help, at least temporarily (for 1-2 days after application), by reducing flaking, itching, shedding hair.

However, it makes my hair stronger and scalp feel more hydrated. Here is the kind I use. I would suggest going to your local organic grocery store (Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, etc.) and picking up the "extra virgin" type. I read somewhere (but have no current citation) that this is the least processed and most beneficial to the skin.

Hope this helps.

u/GeneParmesanCheese · 1 pointr/keto

Coconut oil (stir a little in your coffee or use it to cook with) is also good for, uh, "moving things along". It's got lots of healthy fats and is easy ingredient to sneak into different foods. This brand is pretty tasty.

I agree about giving up anything low fat or reduced fat. It goes against everything that you've been taught in your life, but always opt for full fat products.

How to make delicious homemade home-style popcorn:

  • Pour oil (peanut, canola, or vegetable) in a pot about 1/8" deep and crank the heat
  • Pour popcorn kernels in until covering the bottom of the pot (but not piled on top of each other)
  • Place lid on pot slightly ajar to allow steam to escape
  • If popcorn is getting too high in your pot, remove the lid and place in your sink (you do not want your popcorn touching the watery condensation from the steam) and allow popcorn to spill over if need be
  • Turn off heat as soon as the popping slows/stops and pour popcorn into large bowl
  • Melt butter (as little or as much as you want) in the still hot pan (pro-tip: use the butter knife to cut the chunk in half again and again to speed melting
  • When butter is bubbling it is ready.
  • Pour half of the butter over your popcorn. Add regular table salt. Gently stir popcorn with butter knife. Pour remaining half of butter and add salt, stir again.

How to make delicious theater-style popcorn at home:

  • Pour popcorn popping oil (either butter-flavored oil or coconut oil in a pot about 1/4" deep and crank the heat
  • Pour popcorn kernels in until covering the bottom of the pot (but not piled on top of each other)
  • Add a coating of Flavacol butter-flavored salt into the pot (careful, you can add more later if not salty enough)
  • For topping you can use butter (as descibed above, but push the pat of butter around the bottom to pot to gather up the flavacol salt left behind) or you can use the popping oil as a topping, or a combination of both. I prefer the butter, although the oil by itself or the combination is probably closer to what the theaters use.

you can honestly use any good brand with good reviews on amazon.

i have purchased this and this since i am based in france. i use coco butter as a cream for my face, hair, to brush with and to drink at night. the spearmint is a great substitute for listerine as a mouth wash, and with a glas of water. it soothes my tummy a natural internal deo.

i genuinely feel with you. i know how difficult it must be. try to eat as healthy as possible amd especially get rid of sugars. when i got rid of sugar in my diet (chocolate, cake etcetc) i stopped getting sores in my mouth and my bo changed a LOT. i use rexona deo which is fairly strong and efficient, put one spray of perfume on my chest. i take a piece of cotton, spray once ofthe same perfume on it and stick that in my boxers. the smell stays with me all day since the cottonball captures the smell and doesn't dry it out.

I got the NOW Foods Pure Coconut Oil 7oz. from Amazon and melted it by setting the jar into a pan of water which I barely heated on my stove, then poured the liquid coconut into a pair of aluminum tins I got from Westcoastshaving so now I have one for home and one for travel.

I just swirl my fingertips in the solid coconut oil until I get some on my fingers then rub it on my dry, winter skin. It works pretty well on my legs and arms but I haven't tried it as an aftershave. Previously I was using a mix of jojoba oil and liquid lanolin which is easier to apply but left my skin smelling a bit like bacon which I tried to counteract with some lavender essential oil but wasn't really happy with it.

u/irbilldozer · 1 pointr/BostonTerrier

Well it depends. I give them probably about a tablespoon but I've seen my gf feed them and she probably does 2-3x that amount, she says they like it. They eat regardless though, lol. I just eyeball it and once stirred in it just lightly coats the food. The bit of water also helps thin it out so it coats all the food.

Local grocery place sells the big cans (28oz?) of pumpkin for $2.50 each so we usually buy about 8 cans at a time. Just make sure you're grabbing pumpkin and NOT pumpkin pie filling because most stores put them right next to each other.

I've ordered Nutiva Coconut Oil from Amazon, it was $62 shipped when I ordered it last. Seems like a steal considering it is virgin oil and USDA organic. Big container but you can transfer in small amounts to a mason jar as needed because buying it in this size saves a lot of money. Had we kept buying it from a local pet store at $26 per 16oz, a gallon would have cost $208.

Let me start by saying, I don't have a background in hair. If anyone has professional experience and frowns upon my products- share what you know. I wish I could teach you how I do it, Bacon but even though I can't- I can share my products!

-I have the first generation of this hair dryer (The key to a hair dryer is the nozzle that directs the heat at the end) You can probably use any brand that you have already or prefer as long as you have that attachment

-Ceramic core natural bristle hair brush, I have had mine for so long that they no longer sell it but this one is very similar.

-Blow dry clips to separate hair out into four sections while wet (You can probably make more sections if you would prefer it. I just use the same 4 clips because I only bought one packet) Any clips will work, honestly.

-Bed Head Volumizing Cream

- Sun Bum Heat Protector

I do a deep conditioning mask every other week to keep it healthy and don't use bleachy hair dye because my hair is dark and I'm not adventurous enough to bother. You can use any deep conditioner you like. I just use raw coconut oil. I slather it on, on every other Sunday evening and keep it on for about half an hour before taking a shower and shampooing/conditioning like normal.

There's also

http://www.doctorswoodshop.com/Store/ProdID/6/WALNUT_FINISHING_OIL

These are the common ones that woodworkers tend to use. Pricey though. Walnut oil will probably make your rolling pin and board last longer since it self-polymerizes, meaning it will fill and harden over time unlike mineral oil.

The only thing I am wary about is nut allergies because my wife is highly sensitive to basically every allergen, but the oils I linked above says that it is heated and filtered to remove the proteins that would cause an allergic reaction, and I've read numerous anecdotes that people with walnut allergies have handled those oils and weren't affected by them.
