I don't have a definitive answer and it is late here, so sorry if that trails off.

Given the Amazon description, I'd say you need to place this somewhere between an Arduino and a Raspberry Pi, with the first not being able to run Doom and the second being able to do run it. Given that this came out in 2008, I'd say it is closer to an Arduino.

But there is actually a short story showing what it looks like from inside. That doesn't go into details of the used chip, but we can see there that a button cell is used to power that thing, something that isn't exactly used to power "powerful" stuff. The bigger ones hold up to 620mAh, which is nice, but have a maximum discharge current of 0.2mA 2mA...which is...well, not a lot at all. From what I gather, that is hardly enough to run a very small variant of the Arduino. Which means that whatever is in there is actually not a general purpose chip, but the logic directly baked into circuits.

Which makes it rather unsuitable for running anything besides the logic it was designed for, unfortunately.

Edit: As /u/neotek pointed out in their comment, this is most likely not something baked as I assumed, but a simple, low tier chip. So, theoretically, you could string them together to get a network of those. But the limiting factor will be latency between them, it ain't going to be pretty.

Also /u/drummyfish is completely right in their comment, even if it does only a few things, you could still try to emulate logic gates with it and start building up from there...it ain't going to be pretty either and you will need a lot of those, and I'm talking hundreds of thousands at least here.

It's not for a console. It is its own console.

It has the games built in. You plug it directly into the TV.

I was watching a kid play with stacking rings toys the other day, and I think it perfectly describes people who find Dark Souls hard and rage quit.

The kid tried to put the rings on, but did so in the wrong order. It doesn't work! There are no instructions! No one is telling me what to do! Then the kid got frustrated and pushed the thing over. If the kid just stopped and thought about how the pieces might fit together they might figure it out. Or, more likely, if they just did some trial-and-error then they would figure it out, and then realize that the order of colors matches the order of the rainbow. People just don't want to explore and do trial-and-error anymore.

Don't confuse the ones that are just a flashlight and a translucent eyepiece, these are real infrared goggles. There is a display inside that will show you everything the infrared camera picks up while displaying only (at most) a faint red glow of bleedthrough on the IR LEDs.

I don't have this model, but I got some Eyeclops a few years ago for $20 on Black Friday. They are simply amazing.

While not as effective as hunting or military models, of course, they do let you see in absolute darkness out to a range of maybe 40 feet in open terrain. They work even better indoors, since the walls/ceiling/floor will reflect the infrared light around. Perfect for terrifying people in the woods or checking on the sleeping baby in the middle of the night.

Anything Nerf is fun, and there's plenty of Nerf sports equipment (like footballs) under $15 if their guns aren't your ideal gift (but the Nerf guns are fun).

Remote control helicopters (http://amzn.com/B00DPK11ZA) cost between $15 and $20. Remote control anything is fun though.

Robot stuff (http://amzn.com/B003GDDVPE) runs between $10-$20. Hex bugs (http://amzn.com/B00CMATSCC) are only $5.

Lego sets (http://amzn.com/B00NW2Q6ZG), K'nex sets (http://amzn.com/B00I2UZXZW), and Magic kits (http://amzn.com/B001BX3DQI), and paper airplane kits (http://amzn.com/B000MUQ2FU), which between around $10-$20.

Don't forget things kids can play together, like board games, cards (specially my favorite, Uno), dominos, etc.

These are all gifts that should work well for boys between 10 and 15.

Gotta go with the LeapFrog - My Own LeapTop, Green

Great beginner keeb.

Highly portable, minimalist design. What is that even, 20%? It doesn't even have numbers or any function keys, that's how good it is. The less the keyboard has, the better it is, and more importantly, the cooler you are.

Next great thing about the LeapFrog is the A E S T H E T I C. Very colorful scheme.

It's also very ergonomic. Now, I don't have any scientific evidence that it's ergonomic or would actually reduce the risk of injury, but that never stopped anyone. If you don't use this keeb, your spine will go out of alignment and you will be bedridden within a few years.

I had them too! I forget what they were called, but if I remember right, they had little stickmen inside of them that you could play with, and if you physically turned the cube upside down, the stickman would fall on his head!

Edit: Curiosity got the best of me. One google search later, I have the answer: They were called Cube World cubes, and it seems like they are no longer being made, due to the price on this Amazon listing.

They are a toy that is (was?) popularly sold by street vendors, with a rubber band, and a light up thing with rotors that floats back down like a maple tree seed helicopter. It's hard to explain, but here https://www.amazon.com/FLYING-LIGHT-Helicopter-Sling-STARS/dp/B0052Y6TK4

u/TheDeadlyGerbil · 4 pointsr/GamePhysics

Wow! Okay, so this might seem like a stretch, but this game reminds me of this toy I saw in the early 2000's that was a number of electronic boxes with stick figures in them. You could rearrange them however you wanted and they would interact and play and fight and stuff on small little screens. I always wanted them because I liked how you could stack them in any way you wanted, and the little characters on screen would change about. I never got that toy when I was younger, so I feel that getting this game will give me closure.

All in all, amazing art style and very original idea :)

EDIT: After some quick searching, the toy I was talking about is called Radica's Cube World!

Makeup (+ 1 extra lifestyle item)

NYX Vivid Brights Eyeliner in Vivid Violet or Vivid Sapphire - $6.99

This, or the following lipstick, would be the sample choice. I figured something other than black eyeliner would be nice & I thought the blue and violet shades of this were particularly lovely.

NYX High Voltage Lipstick in Hollywood, Rags to Riches, or Tiara - $2.99

I've really been loving NYX products recently (obviously) and I thought these lipsticks looked incredibly pigmented and came in pretty colors. As I said, the lipstick or the eyeliner above would be the sample choice.

BECCA Shimering Skin Perfector in Moonstone - Travel Size -$19

This is the most expensive item in my box. I've been in love with highlight/illuminators recently and I think they give an absolutely beautiful glow.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray - Travel Size - $14

No one wants their makeup to start wearing off halfway through the night! Setting sprays are wonderful & I've been making sure to use them - especially since it's getting hotter.

Pack of 60 Glow in the Dark Stars - $6.28

The bonus lifestyle item! I had these when I was like, 10, and I loved them. I want to get them again, I just haven't. I think they're totally fun and are a nice bonus for the theme.

WHIM Bold Glitters Nail Laquer in Rock n' Stroll - $10

This nail polish looks like stars. That's it really.

Total - $59.26

If you're interested in the monster raising aspects, then I would suggest Digimon World 1 (And Next Order, though I havn't played it myself) along with possibly Digimon World Championship since that emulates the v-pets. They also just re-released the actual v-pets if you want to grab one, though they're becoming hard to find!

https://www.gamestop.com/collectibles/toys/digimon-digivice-assortment/173073

A lot of the games do pair you with many digimon rather than a single partner like the anime, and I agree that takes some stuff away from the appeal the Anime had and makes it pokemon-ish, but the neat thing about the Digimon games is that each one tends to tackle a totally different genera. World 1 is a sort of monster raising game like the V-Pet, but on a bigger scale, World 2 is a mystery dungeon game, World 3 is a JRPG (which keeps you with the same 3 or 4 partners for the whole game, too), World 4 is a beat-em-up dungeon crawler - theres a good amount of variety to how all the digimon games play.

You might also want to take a look at Digimon Survive. Its taking inspiration from the anime in the sense that the party will always turn back into their child stage like World 3, but also it is going to have a visual novel segment, and how you treat the tamers of each of your parties Digimon will affect what their Digimon can evolve into, because their evolution are tied to their humans emotional state.

Its a cool franchise, because theres so many different takes on it. If you keep looking I'm sure you'll find an entry that gels with you!

Books, books, books! My babies love(d) Look, Look! (three year old loves "reading" it to his brother), Black & White, Art Cards, the Babyfaces series (esp Hugs and Kisses and Smile!. The World Snacks series is also great; they're bright, (mostly) well-written, and not irritating. Plus, My toddler still loves them, and we started reading them to him when he was three months. I like Yum Yum Dim Sum and Let's Nosh! best. Indestructables are great for babies who eat books. And the Leslie Patricelli books have been a huge hit around here since toddlerdude was a wee baby.

Don't forget non-board books good for reading, such as a Mother Goose (there are also "chunky" ones that are kid-safe), Beatrix Potter, The Wind in the Willows, or even Shel Silverstein.

Toys for this age that I like are sensory balls, music makers, rattles (we had to buy two of those because wee babydude likes it so much), stackers, links, these bead things (a large, four-sided activity cube is gold for this age through toddler hood--like this), stacking cups, and baby's first blocks. We have veriations on all of these (or the exact one listed), and they are popular with both our three year old and the eight month old.

They were Helecopter Slingshots . I'm not sure of the quality of those specifoc ones, but I'll be bringing a bunch. What did you not receive that you ended up needing? An exersaucer! Loved it for both kids. Someplace you can put them DOWN for a sec and they're happy and stimulated. I used to drag it into the bathroom and take a shower!

What did you think you would need but never ended up using? My MIL talked me into a baby wipe warmer which was beyond useless! Also a baby sling. There are so many baby carrying things out there - they're great but everyone prefers a different one. I'm fond of my Ergo but hubby preferred the Baby Bjorn. I also wasn't a big user of a diaper bag. I mostly just packed my car with stuff and would sometimes throw an extra diaper in my purse.

What kinds of things can you always use more of? Diapers, yeah. But clothes - they go through clothes so fast! Get some in the bigger sizes (and NEVER buy newborn! They're newborns for so little time), up to about 18 months old.

And anything else you can think of that would be helpful in getting her and the little man some kick-ass gifts. My daughter is 18 months old and here's a list of things I'm still using, for a list of things that have a life beyond the newborn stage:

  1. Diaper Genie. People are mixed on this though, and people like different kinds.

  2. Baby blankets, sheets, crib bumper.

  3. Baby toys OMG so many toys. Big duplo blocks are great! Key rings, teething stuff, smallish stuffed animals, those big plastic ring toys.

  4. Baby wipes.

  5. Sippy cups

  6. Pacifiers - and not just 1 or 2. She's going to need 20. Cause they get lost.

  7. No tears body wash. And bath toys! My son (4 1/2) still plays with them.

  8. And this rocker which I used for both kids. My daughter still likes to hang out in it.

  9. Baby monitor!

Edit: I keep thinking of stuff and editing. Sorry...

Oh, what's this? Pft, is that an iPhone? An XS plus? Are you serious? iPhones are the most popular smartphone, but they are TOTALLY overrated. I, personally, have the BY FAR more superior VTech. You probably haven't heard of it. It's from a new startup THAT IS GONNA BE BIG. The technology is so good, it is faster than the speed of light. Everyone says that about their peasant iPhone, but sometimes I am merely THINKING of selecting something and it is clicked right away. Can your iPhone do that? I bet it can't. iPhones are a load of Made in China cheap crap that is sold for at least 5000% bigger than it costs to produce. My VTech, in comparison (since it was from the super new, hip, consumer friendly BDE startup), costs just $15. That's right, FIFTEEN DOLLARS. I paid infinitely less money for my far more superior phone than your neanderthal brick. Plus, it comes in a more variety of colors, including "Violet," "Scout (a beautiful lime-green shade)" and a ton more colors. Your iPhone is some cheap aluminum shiny crap with a stupid glass screen that you crustily cry over when it breaks. Your fault for buying a phone with a fragile screen, which you touch EVERYDAY. My phone is made of an OLED LED Soft Transparent Touch Sensitive plastic made of unicorn horn and mermaid tears. The materials are unused by anyone else; that's why the phone is such a bargain! I was visiting an anti-vaxx protest rally and I simply walked past and all of the sudden the people stopped protesting. Turns out, they became vaccinated and regained their brain cells. What can I say, that's a Vtech for ya! Critics of my VTech say that the design is terrible. I don't blame them; they have been brainwashed by Steve Jobs and Timmy Turner. Who doesn't enjoy the slick design, which includes pictures of puppies, teddy bears, or, if you prefer, plain. Now THAT is diversity. Also, there is no need for the "app store." I needed to use my Word Finder on my VTech to see what app store means. The necessary apps are already installed, so what else is there to have? The weather, ABC, shape, music, and puppy apps are more than enough, I am over the moon. Oops, I'm getting a call... Hello? Yes! ... Just talking about my VTech... iPhone... Yeah, I'll tell them. Alright, my super hot smart girlfriend just told me to tell you your crummy iPhone makes her question the human race's intelligence. She goes to Yale Harvard Brown University, so she knows what's up. Wait, let me send you the link to order a VTech... here you go! No problem, as a VTech user, it is my civil duty to show people the light of VTech. Let me just take that... *punts your iPhone through the skyscrapers of Dubai* You're welcome!

I don't have the MW goggles but I do have these which work on the same principles.

The tech behind cheap NV goggles like these involves using infrared LEDs with a digital camera that can pick up infrared light. So basically it's like having a flashlight that can only be seen by certain cameras (and maybe whatever animals I don't feel like looking up I guess)

The end result is if two people wear them the other person looks like they have a flashlight glued to their forehead. But other than that they work great for distances of <50ft or so. Just imagine using a kind of crappy LED flashlight as far as viewing distance is concerned.

If you want this exact car working again it might be easier to find another Turbo Hopper on Ebay, and use it for parts. This was my first RC car and I still have it. I broke the spare tire off a long time ago, and still have it. I lost one of the Hella lights.

I can also tell you, this thing cannot go through grass. Maybe one inch tall grass it could move at 3mph. On asphalt it might go 8mph. I haven't used mine in a while but it's really slow and eats through 8AA batteries quickly.

If you're just looking for a toy to play with your 3 year old with. What about this Definitely capable of going through grass. Highly reviewed and rated on Amazon. My twin boys are 8 now and we've been through a few cars. I've found that most of the inexpensive cars have VERY limited steering movement, which makes any of them frustrating for a youngster.

What I found works the best for them is the "rock crawler" style trucks. They're slower, which is good for them, and have more freedom of movement. Not to mention they love driving them in the snow or on the grass in the back yard which gives much more opportunity to drive than having to have a clean, flat street to drive on.

EDIT: This is what I've gotten for them. They're still nothing like the "real" RC cars, but those can cost hundreds and I wouldn't be putting those in the hands of a 6 year old:

So today I managed to find a Speak & Spell, Boxed, used but in great shape, at a sale today. Ebay listings have it at around 25-30, but amazon has it 60+. None of the amazon listings state they have the box. HOWEVER, according to camelcamelcamel, the item doesn't appear to have moved/sold.

Should I just throw it on amazon at the higher end of the price ranges and see what happens? The rank seems decent compared to the graphs I've seen, but still trying to fully understand it. Here's the listing and CCC's graph:

Not even sure if the ranks and graph indicate I did decently (I got it for dirt cheap so anything is profit really, but asking for clarity's sake).

I went searching for this for my 3yo and soon to be 2yo. We recently found a VTECH Spin & Learn Color Flashlight . They both love it, but it plays music and games, sometimes to unbearable levels.

I do have 70% tint stickers that I plan to use for a flashlights for them now.

My goal: get my weight back to 185-190 pounds. Progress is good so far, at my worst last month I was down to 160; I'm back up to 168ish now. Hopefully by the end of the summer!

There's only one number to choose: 69.

I'm a grown man, but love the shit out of glow in the dark stars.
