It probably does, but I would rather want to bring attention to the fact that the Part 4 Manga is coming out next month!

u/Xeiros · 98 pointsr/anime

Loved what you saw and want to continue in the manga from where the anime left off? Start reading from page 11 of Chapter 26 though I'd recommended reading it from the beginning. The art alone is more than worth your time.

If you'd like to support the manga's official release in the west, you can preorder both Volumes 1 and 2 on Amazon.

Got rivers of money flowing out of your pockets and want to support the show more directly in the hopes of a second season a couple years down the line? Consider buying the two Japanese BD Boxes Here and Here. No, they don't come with English subtitles unfortunately.

All in all that was a phenomenal finale. Every aspect was wonderfully handled. You could feel the teams' passion not just in this episode, but in the whole project. You could tell they really wanted Made in Abyss to succeed as an anime and I'd say it has.

u/funkerbuster · 21 pointsr/TokyoGhoul
u/EZE420 · 21 pointsr/IAmA

They're actually a really great series of short novels as well. I started with the manga and then read the books, I never really got into the anime. I think the "Welcome to the NHK" series would be something great for an agoraphobic to read. I'd gladly buy/send you a copy.

u/Oceslope · 15 pointsr/YoujoSenki

Realistically, Youjo Senki isn't really popular in any country.

This sub has a tenth of the subscribers that any of the other Isekai Quartet subreddits have. I only know of one other person personally that has watched it, and that is because I made them.

In Japan where it is cost to popular, it is still fairly niche. The movie doesn't show up on Box Office Mojo, but this ANN article keeps updating the total as it meets milestones. At $3.58 million, it comes in at about #30 on the Japan Yearly Box Office list for 2019. Unfortunately for Tanya, Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel - II. Lost Butterfly ($12 million), City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes ($11.9 million), and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection ($8 million) all came out either on the same day/weekend.

It started on 50 screens, then expanded to 150, and then into the 4DX thing which I guess is theater in a truck. The series has been heavily marketed (large advertisements, collaboration cafes, airsoft ranges, etc.) and every week there was a different limited "at the door" bonus booklet or 35mm film bonus. It is rare for a movie to still be screened this late in it's life. Carlo Zen is a business savvy individual and has a lot of media tied into the property (Light Novels, two manga series, two anime series, and now a movie). He is probably hoping for a second season even more than any of us are.

Back to my part of the world. The first volume of the english language light novel is #30037 on Amazon in it's category. Overlord (hardcover) is #8544. Crunchyroll and AMC are showing the movie once on 500 screens in the US. So I'm glad it's at least popular enough to get that over here.

u/inanimatebananamint · 13 pointsr/manga

The visual metaphors in this chapter are incredibly beautiful, just as the graceful touch she has defining her newfound life and fulfillment are inspiring. Yet the thing I am most pleased to see is the happiness she made for herself.

It feels inappropriate to think of her story as just a heartening tale, as the struggles and obstacles she faces and still contends with are not over, yet they are also not dissimilar to the struggles of life all of us face in our own way. For that similarity, and for her overcoming of them, I am happy too.

Thanks for finishing her report Tetsu-scans! I'm sad to hear they are not planning to translate Nagata Kibi's next published book but maybe we will eventually see it licensed officially like this volume!

u/ChaosOpen · 12 pointsr/YoujoSenki

Can you get a kindle? I have all 6 books on my kindle, the new models are shit but if you can get your hands on a paperwhite it uses magnets n' shit to create a screen that resembles actual paper and can be read in the sunlight, unlike the LCD screen on the nook and modern kindle.(as a drawback it can only display black and white)

But, if you can find a 3rd generation paperwhite, you can get the books on your Kindle and go ham. If you'd like an actual book, then amazon ships to Indonesia though the shipping may cost more than the actual book.

u/lalange · 10 pointsr/anime

If you liked the anime, you should definitely read the book.
A lot was censored and altered in the anime, it's still amazing, but the book dives so much further into human misery
and the depressing lifes of Satou and Misaki.

Even though I normally don't like reading, this book has grabbed me and I still think about some of the
scenes in it after months.

You'll want to get the newer manga releases by Kodansha. There are 12 volumes which is the same as the original 18 (each volume is a little longer). You can get these in two boxsets:

u/Overlord3k · 9 pointsr/manga

Some things I feel like mentioning:

The Sword Art Online volume that comes out this month is the manga. The first light novel volume comes out next month. I think I won't get the manga but I will definitely buy the light novel volumes.

The first 3 volumes of Phoenix by Osamu Tezuka are currently available digitally and the 4th volume comes out next week (March 11). You can get it directly from Vizmanga, Amazon Kindle, iBookstore, Nook, and Google Play.

You can buy a Shonen Jump subscription on Rightstuf ($26) and get a free year of their Got Anime Membership.

I noticed most volumes of Attack on Titan are currently around $6-$7 on amazon so it is worth checking it out if you are interested in buying the series. Worth noting that if you don't mind waiting the Attack on Titan Colossal Edition 1 comes out in May and contains the first 5 volumes of the series.

Deadman Wonderland volume 1 which came out last month is still $6 on amazon.

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer Vol. 1-2 is currently available for preorder comes out in November. I also noticed Noragami, Kokoro Connect, and Ubel Blat are available for preorder (on amazon at least).

---

This week I had around 8 volumes preordered but I had to cancel most of them. I plan to buy them in the future during a sale. (Really wanted Nijigahara Holograph....waited so long for it...it was even delayed...but I have been spending too much on manga recently so :/ )

Haganai volume 6 just arrived and it seems next volume the manga finally reaches the 2nd season of the anime. Nisekoi volume 2 should get here tomorrow (currently around $6.30 on amazon). Psyren volume 15 has not shipped yet...no idea why (currently $5 on amazon).

Those are my orders for this week. I really can't wait for the Gundam volume at the end of this month.

---

From last month's releases I only remember getting Toradora 6, Dragon Ball Full Color Edition 1, Strike Witches 1, Deadman Wonderland and I think that was it....I did kinda go crazy and spend a bit on some stuff released long ago like Great Teacher Onizuka and Gintama. If anyone is interested on the size of the Dragon Ball color edition volume I can take some pictures next to a regular One Piece volume.

Long post xD

u/Sogekingu88 · 8 pointsr/OnePiece

I started my collection 2 years ago and I now own all the volumes. Dont buy them 1 by one. You will end up paying to much.

Get those:

  • Box Set 1
  • Box Set 2
  • Box Set 3

You will find it way cheaper and you get the exact same thing with an extra book in each box and more stuff.

I got the 3 box sets and then bough the volumes from there as they get out. Individually they go around 9$ each. Wich would cost you around 630$ if you buy the first 70 volumes. With the box sets, It'll be around 300-350$.
u/Jhennauchan · 8 pointsr/sailormoon

Please support the Sailor Moon franchise in America by picking up the officially released volumes. pointed glare at comment below

The later printings fix some of the errors, and they have very nice little box sets for cheap. The bindings are gorgeous and the books are sturdy, so there is no reason not to get them. They look amazing on a shelf, too.

>I am looking for an english Dragon Ball Vol. 1 manga that is not censored.

You're looking for the 3-in-1s. So far, this release is as uncensored as it gets. If you order this, and you receive a censored release, you received a misprint, and should get your money back.

>what is the quintessential english version of the manga?

There really isn't one.

  • The Full Color manga is mostly uncensored (sans Popo's lips), and will probably be the definitive release over time, but it won't be released in its entirety in English for years to come, and VIZ chose to start with Dragon Ball Z.

  • The VIZBIGs look wonderful, but are missing a couple of the color chapters, and are censored for content.

  • The individual volumes are censored to a slightly lesser degree than the VIZBIGs, and are all in black and white.

  • The 3-in-1s are the least censored black and white release, but are ongoing and can't be purchased in its entirety yet. A handful of title pages are missing as well.

Translation-wise, the official translation by VIZ is as close as it gets.
They're a little quirky at times, but it's a good translation overall.

Manga is only at the Os Fjord still so a good 10-15 chapters to catch up IMO.

LN is translated to english in November, start ordering on amazon, chapters, or whatever place to buy books and it will support the author. You could always order overseas but the shipping will cost you an arm and a leg so might as well wait for stuff to reach your country.

EDIT: here you can see date is November 14 2017 for release, you can even preorder

u/TyroKith · 5 pointsr/dbz

Hey, congratulations on wanting to experience Dragon Ball in its best format. I'd recommend starting from Dragon Ball volume 1 and working your way through the series since that's its proper storyline progression. Unfortunately there have been a lot of English releases and re-releases with varying amounts of censorship, so it's really confusing about what's "best" to buy, and I don't think it's even possible to get the least edited versions anymore.

You should check eBay because you can get some good deals on there if you buy in bulk, and sometimes you can get single volumes for very cheap on Amazon.

  • If you're going to look for the single volumes you want to try to find the ones with the old VIZ "eye" logo on the bottom. The new logo means it's more censored. If you can't it's no big deal because they switch before the series ends anyway.
  • The series was initially released with volumes that looked like this. This was the most unedited version IIRC, but those are harder to find and I don't think it spanned the entire series before it was cancelled. Come to think of it, this version had several releases of varying censorship. Very confusing.
  • You'll want to keep away from the 3-in-1 releases because I hear that the paper quality and inking are TERRIBLE.
  • This release has been cancelled/put on hold indefinitely, but VIZ did release the Saiyan arc in full color. The volumes are big, the paper quality is nice, and it's beautiful to look at.
  • Have you considered buying digitally? It's so convenient having the volumes on your computer. Take them with you wherever you go and enjoy the fact that you can see all of the page that otherwise is tucked into the spine. You can buy the series this way in several formats.
  • The VIZBIG collection is probably the easiest and cheapest way for you to get your hands on the series. While these don't have all the colored chapters, they do have most and the paper quality is nice. The downside is that you're holding 3-4 volumes in your hands at once while you're trying to read.

tl;dr: I recommend researching! Find what's right for you. I recommend digital, but you might find a better deal if you buy in bulk. The VIZBIG would probably be what I go with if I had to buy them over again. There's a lot more I could have said about these, and a lot of political stuff about how they were advertised vs. what we got, but I hope that this at least gets you started. I'm no expert but if you want more help feel free to respond here or PM me and I'll try to answer your questions or point you to someone else who can.

From our new FAQ in the sidebar (which I put many hours into!):

>##Q: What is the best way to purchase the manga?
A: There are many different ways to purchase the manga, though unfortunately, every official English release is censored in some way, shape, or form. Your best option is to purchase it digitally from Viz's website, but if you prefer a physical release, the VIZBIGs have the best paper quality, while the individual Tankōbons have the least amount of censorship. The 3-in-1s have atrocious paper quality and are just as censored as before, despite being advertised as otherwise.

I neglected to mention the Full Color releases (which are also censored), because they're incomplete and appear to be indefinitely suspended.

u/fearisnotanoption · 5 pointsr/manga

To be honest, the book box sets are a better value for your dollar. The Omnibus volumes tend to have thinner, shittier paper so the volumes aren't as thick but it means that the overall quality is lessened. The only problem with the box sets is you have to wait for all the volumes to be available before you can purchase the set so you will be always behind for collection purposes. Also <100$ for ~25 volumes is a price you won't likely get even with the omnibus.

u/mikeybender · 5 pointsr/comics

It's not a webcomic, but here is the collection.

u/theirisnetwork · 5 pointsr/comicbooks

It's weird, because for me in terms of my nerd collections, outside of video games, manga was my next biggest outlet. If I'm going to be completely honestly, I was too scared to get into comic books back when I was a younger teenager because seeing the individual issues made it very daunting. Manga back then was easier because well, it was numbered, and because of all the volumes, it was all presented very easy and accordingly well for a socially awkward teenager who didn't want to ask advice.

I still remember getting big into them, that was around the time that Civil War was happening. Which was really interesting for me, but then asking friends about trying to read up on it, and how not only did I need to keep up with Civil War the series, I had to also read some issues of Amazing Spider-Man (which was already confusing, there's multiple versions of Spider-Man out?), Fantastic Four and New Avengers, also later on some Iron Man and Punisher as well along with She-Hulk, some Thunderbolts and such.

At that time, Bleach and Naruto were much easier because everything was condensed into just these volumes I needed to read. I wasn't big enough into it to subscribe to Shonen Jump, so I would just patiently wait until a new one would come out. It was a bit annoying using my allowance to pay $10 or so to finish something that would be done in an hour, but I was hooked.

As time went on in high school, I moved less towards manga and more into anime. This was back when Toonami and Adult Swim was in it's glory days. From there, I suddenly understood this concept that manga would usually come up first then followed by the anime, so I wanted to get into this. That meant going into scanlations. So at the peak of me liking anime and manga I was going and watching fansubbed episodes of stuff and constantly waiting for new chapters to come up to read.

College rolled around, and I guess not having cable, in addition to being able to have a much broader group of friends and social life made it so that focusing as much as I could on anime and manga was getting harder. In fact, during this time I think that the only big ones I remember getting into were Death Note and Gurren Lagann and FMA: Brotherhood. I still remember my roommate getting really confused when I bough the box set of Death Note and it came in this massive Amazon box.

But, mostly around this time, anime and manga flew to the wayside for me. It was much harder to keep up with and friends who were dedicated in it had to follow everything almost religiously. Unlike say a TV show or something, anime would be like at a minimum 26 episodes for a series, some 51 (not talking about OVAs or limited runs mind you) which made it hard to do on a college schedule.

It was around senior year that I decided to try to get back into things. For me that was first with comic books. For that it was much easier. If there was storyline you liked, there was either a TPB or a hardcover edition of everything you missed. This you can pick and choose. Oh, I really want to read all of Batman: Year One. Good news, there's a collected version of that. Oh, there's a new series called Saga I want to read? If I can't read every new issue, I'll just wait a bit for the next couple issues to be collected and read it on trade.

For manga that's a lot harder, as least how they package and sell it in the US. You can't just choose storylines, they constantly go by volume. I can't really say easily find an exact storyline of something I like and choose only to read that. Those numbered volumes just keep going and going. In fact, this happened to me one time. I was trying to start to read a bit more of a recent series, 20th Century Boys, and I lost track as to what volume I was at. This was a combination of me buying them and borrowing from friend's. After seeing how there's no real easy way to figure out where to pick up, I just gave up.

I know that they're at least trying though. One recent series I've loved recently is Attack on Titan. After watching the first season on episodes I wanted to read the manga to see the differences between the two and was very happy that they've got a collected "Colossal Edition" that have volumes 1-5 in it.

I really do want to get back into manga, but for someone who's been out of it for a bit, it doesn't really seem that new user friendly as compared to comic books. Which is very odd to say, but nowadays if I go into a comic book store I can talk about how much I love Matt Fraction's stuff and have someone in there recommend to me something else. This all being said, I guess this is moreover an issue that I can't find a reliable manga store in my place, but I feel like this is stressing my original point, that for me to try to get back into it requires a lot more work than I'm used to.

u/PaplooTheEwok · 5 pointsr/anime_irl

The only other things you could be missing re. Sailor Moon media:

Sailor V Series

Codename Sailor V: Vol. 1

Codename Sailor V: Vol. 2

These two detail Sailor Venus' life as the first Sailor Senshi, prior to the events of Sailor Moon. Some of it was actually published prior to Sailor Moon's creation, so, it's kind of fun on that front.

The Short Stories Collection:

Short Stories 1

Short Stories 2

Companion to the Sailor Moon Manga, mostly cute little short stories about the characters :) A couple of them made it into the series as "specials" or in the case of Luna's story, a movie.

For the complete Manga:

Box Set 1

Box Set 2

Other media besides Crystal/Sailor Moon would be the three movies that accompany three of the seasons, Sailor Moon R Promise of the Rose is the only one available for sale right now though. There's one for S and one for SuperS as well.

If you really want to get deep into the media weeds, there are also the Art Books and Material collections :) :D

EDIT: There's also Sailor Moon: another story, the video game for SNES, but that's near impossible to get your hands on...

Our FAQ has this answered, should have checked there!

> The 3-in-1s are the least censored release, but are ongoing and currently incomplete. This release is printed on very thin, low quality paper, and does not include any of the special colored chapters.
>
>
The VIZBIGs have excellent paper quality and is the only English release to include the special colored chapters, though a few were left in black & white for some reason.
>
> * The individual volumes are censored to a slightly lesser degree than the VIZBIGs, and are all in black and white.

----

> So my question is, are the Vizbigs really that bad? Is it worth giving up some less-child-friendly moments to get the better looking series?

The VIZBigs are not bad. If you're looking for a way to get the completed series, then this is the better release for you. The second best release (that is not visually censored, besides Mr. Popo's lips) would be the Full Color manga.

As long as you're happy with having a censored release, then go with the VIZBigs. If you think that you're going to be paranoid that some panels are clearly censored, then you may want to look into the 3-in-1 set - but you'll have to deal with awful paper quality.

So bad, it's good" bestenfalls.

Start with either of these ones!

This edition is sturdier and slightly bigger, but a little more censored. Paper quality is very good though, and rarely you'll get light-colored pages, probably the most appealing aspects of this one.

https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Vol-1-VIZBIG/dp/1421520591

This next edition is a more recent one. Paper is a little thinner, size is a bit smaller. However, this one benefits from being less censored, and the design is far more appealing for collectors; the illustrations on the front are each special newer pieces from Toriyama, the spine art is like the Japanese where it all makes a big picture, and most importantly, it doesn't split-off 1/3rd or the way through. This is the most consistent English release.

There are many different ways to purchase the manga, though unfortunately, every official English release is censored in some way shape or form. Censorship in Dragon Ball entails the removal of strong language, female nudity, middle fingers, and near the end, guns. Dark-skinned characters – namely Officer Black and Mr. Popo – have their large lips altered. Mr. Satan's name & Satan City are renamed Hercule and Herculopolis respectively. Violence and gore is unaffected.

>/AUTISTIC SQUEE-ING

Yay, a fellow prequelmemer :D That's my favorite sub on Reddit. It turned me from a serial lurker, jumping from one sub to another, to someone who actually contribute back to the community. Although my posts lean more towards sithpostings rather than actual high quality OCs :p

>I am an avid amateur writer, and I have a huge investment in the study of languages. I can read in just about any Romance language to a pretty decent level.

Wow, that's a lot of languages that you're good at. It's really impressive and definitely a worthwhile hobby, nevermind what others say :) I read the link you gave me, and there's a table about writing systems. I thought learning about the language itself is challenging enough, now complete with various ways of writing/pronouncing it, I admire you so much!

>East Asian languages are a bit out of my range

Why do I get the feeling that once you get started on it, it'd actually come by pretty easy for you :p I agree, that is super cool! To be able to watch anime/read manga without having to rely on the translations would be satisfying af. Heck, when I read and understand (like really simple, common) words in katakana/hiragana, it felt like a big achievement to me xD

>Do you do much anime or video games?

Anime/manga is a pretty big part of my childhood especially being Asian, I've been reading translated manga since I was little. What about you? Is there any particular anime/manga that you love? When I buy it here, it's pretty cheap but when I went to the states during my undergrad, I was shocked because they are so freaking expensive like this one. On amazon at least it's discounted, but at B&N everything is list price. I guess the licensing plays a big part in that.

>If you ever get bored and need something different to listen to, there's a lot of stuff by Nobuo Uematsu that fills that gap nicely.

Thanks for the rec! I'll give it a listen. Japanese video games and anime have good soundtrack so it's always a win when I find more :)

>I'll let you know how it goes when I finally get there.

Please do! I don't read crime thriller much so I'll wait to hear your thoughts on it first before starting xD

>Little pricey for a digital copy

I checked it on google play myself and it's EXPENSIVE. Hell, even the paperback version is much cheaper. Probably better if you use the money to buy books that you're used to reading, I'd hate it if you were to be disappointed especially after spending so much money on it :(

>I still miss my grandma's piano some days, and I haven't seen it in years...

Awww.... :')

>It doesn't help that, as often as I use alternate tunings, it's sometimes really impractical to play the ones I do know.

In a way this kinda makes sense to me because you have you own style/way of playing and others have theirs, there's nothing wrong with that ;)

>I have recently learned this one

I'll be honest, this is a kind of genre I wouldn't have listened to by myself since it's a huge leap from my usual, but from what I’ve heard I like it. I love his voice in particular but since we’re talking about you playing the song using guitar, I’m probably missing the point here xD

Turn Back Time is definitely more of my style of music, I love Future Bass, and I think Flume is genius (although now he's experimenting in other forms of EDM which is perfectly fine). This song kinda has a Mazde vibe to it and I’m digging it. I've added it to my playlist, it's a fun one :D

>I love, love, love jazz as a style, and I'm actually pretty good at jazz on the saxophone

Oh god, are you like this multi-talented person irl but only few people are actually aware of it? Forgive my imagination for a while here but I'm having major flashbacks to Parks & Rec when Ron Swanson/Duke Silver came out of nowhere and played amazing saxophone at the festival in front of the whole town.

Back to the main point, yeah I was wondering how that'd work because the type of jazz I listen to usually doesn't have guitar mixed in but I'm sure there's a whole genre for that. You're right! It is sexy~ My favorite part is at 1:30 (which you would've already expected) definitely a mix between groovy and smooth jazz.

Gotg yes, it's brilliant!! For a while there I was obsessed with Ooh Child because of that movie. Although I prefer the first movie compared to the second one, what do you think? I know we're already talking about a lot of topics as it is, but are you a fan of Marvel movies? :D

Oh. my. god. I love it!! Thanks for bringing it to my attention <3 I've listened to it like 3 times now and I've added it to my playlist, right now I'm listening to The Ink Spots other songs.

I wholeheartedly agree, I love developers who take the time to design soundtracks and create the right atmosphere for their game, and Bethesda is one of them. Take this for example, I actually prefer this version than the original 1918 song xD

Do you play video games? What kind do you usually play if you do? :)

For the Manga:
http://www.amazon.com/Fullmetal-Alchemist-Box-Hiromu-Arakawa/dp/1421541955

I bought this one and LOVE it. There are minor translation issues (they say Ishbal instead of Ishval, and Xerxes is translated into some weird word like "cesscles", but other than that, its true to the Japanese version, including the right-to-left reading style (which is really fun to read)

MMMMMM!!! Let me tell you all about our lord and savior Junji Ito!

I'm going to want you to start by reading Ito's Museum of Terror series (sorry about that website). Although It's not complete, It's a darn good way of getting into the short stories that make up the bulk of Ito's work. So far My favorite stories are "Long Hair in the Attic", "My Dear Ancestors", "Hanging Balloons" and "The Groaning Drain". Although I have yet to read these one, I hear that "Intersection's Pretty Boy", "Bully" and "The Long Dream" are Ito classics. Also, I'm skipping volumes 5 & 6 because they may be released in a Souichi deluxe edition.

Hellstar Remina is the last work I'll recommend that you read online. Now were're talking about Ito bigger multi chapter products. It's a story about how having a planet named atfer you can REALLY fuck you over.
Although the art is utterly amazing, I personally found this one to be too silly and unbelievable at times.

Next up: Tomie! Before I go further, I want you to know that I believe paper is far superior to online when it comes to Ito. Ito's Comics are tailor made for the medium of comic books, thus Reading the physical book is my recommendation. Tomie is about an indestructible slut who is really good at spooking people. This is the series where OP's reference comes from. This series is one of Ito's earliest, so the art in the beginning looks janky for the most part. However, you'll get to see Ito's art evolve.

Now let's talk about Uzumaki. In Uzumaki, it literally spirals out of control! This book is absolutely amazing. It was so great, that it gave me legitimate fatigue in the last three chapters.

And now Gyo! Gyo looks like the crossover of Evil Dead and Sharknado. I can't really say much here, But It's still wroth the read.

Fragments of Horror: It's pretty much a continuation of Museum of Terror.

Then it's Yon & Mu. In Yon & Mu, Junji overreacts to cats. I'll actually won't recommend this one because it's a comedy that is full of self references.

Last, but not least, The Dissolving Classroom. In The Dissolving Classrom, two whipper snappers cause terrifying allegory shenanigans. Same thing with Gyo.

There are five total seasons - Classic, R, S, SuperS, and StarS.

Stars was not released in America due to licensing and censorship issues, as in the last few episodes there is quite a bit of nudity. If you did not know, there was quite a bit of heavy editing in the American releases - buttcrack lines, Uranus and Neptune's relationship, boob outlines, panty shots - tons of stuff.

Here is the wikipedia page with a synopsis of the season, etc. There is a TON of character development and it wraps up the story quite nicely.

If you haven't read the manga, I highly suggest it. You can get the first six in a nice box set and I believe there's a second set as well. Codename wa Sailor V was released two years ago in English for the first time as well. :D

Below includes links to the amazon page, which has identification numbers you can use for other sites, but since many of these titles share comic/manga names, it can be confusing telling the difference. Also, I think everything but Another and Baccano have a good fan translation done as of now, and he may have already read it (at least first volumes) and is not interested in a physical copy of them, so I would ask.

If he likes the idea of a game esque world (very popular right now for some reason), I would recomend Rising of the Shield Hero, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon, and Log Horizon.

For more typical fantasy styled light novels, Spice and Wolf, Another, A certain Magical Index, No Game, No Life, The Devil Is A Part-Timer, and soon to be release Baccano.

The original SAO LN in Japan is way past the anime. (A good 2 seasons or so.) In English, it's been published up to the end of the first season with the first arc of the second season coming out on the 15th. (Phantom Bullet) The anime adapts through to volume 8.

The SAO: Progressive series is a re-write of the first arc and hasn't been adapted beyond a single chapter. It's a really good read for those that are interested in what SAO should originally have been. The manga version of it is a silly adaption where it tells the story from another character's perspective while focusing on comedy.

Not sure about other kinds of LNs he might like considering it's hard to get an accurate sense of taste just from the series listed. Going based off the genres, Danmachi is a really enjoyable growth adventure action series I consistently look forward to the next volume of.

A Certain Magical Index is a series I love as the story is always becoming more and more exciting with some of the best writing from an author out of many light novels. The English publication isn't past the anime yet but the anime does butcher some of the arcs so it's worth it to start from the beginning. A companion to this series would be the A Certain Scientific Railgun manga which is also very action orientated.

Tate no Yuusha is an LN series without an anime adaption that got licensed in English. It's a pretty good adventure series that he might like. It's a safe bet for something he's probably not experienced yet I think. Only 2 volumes published in English so far.

I prefer a physical copy as well, but they come out agonizingly slowly it seems! For example I am following The Irregular at Magic High School light novels (and I love the anime/manga) but they only come out something like 2-3 a year and many more to go. So Tanya is JUST starting end of this year, gonna be a long wait I think, but if any luck we'll get 2-3 more in 2018 for Tanya.

It's always expensive here in Australia unfortunately, matey potatey. $14 is actually on the cheaper end of the scale to be honest.

I know of a site that you can use to compare prices for books, and I looked up Tokyo Ghoul for you, and the $14-16 range is looking like your best bet for new.

If you're willing to try Amazon, it's here for $3 apparently, but that's not including shipping.

You might be able to find a eBook, they could be cheaper.

And if you don't care about physically collecting it, and...y'know, technically committing a 'crime', you could always just read the scanlations on MangaDex. Don't worry, you won't be arrested. We all do it here.

it's only $165 on amazon.ca converting that to USD is even cheaper around 127 USD. Dunno if this is a mistake or not. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/1421590522/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Going to jump on this to say don't just buy Uzumaki. Gyo and Tomie are both just as great and also contained in one volume.

u/skinnypup · 1 pointr/horror

i got a gift card to a book store...which i, in turn, used to some of it to buy the Complete Deluxe edition of Tomie by Junji Ito - this

u/Vellon221 · 1 pointr/Animesuggest

Yes it does. Did you even look?

It's out of print now, but used copies aren't insanely expensive.

u/airencracken · 1 pointr/manga

It's about a hikikomori, male this time, however, I think the manga is the worst of the three representations of it. The light novel being my favorite.

My favorite book! Thanks for the contest!

u/ataradrac · 1 pointr/furry

Have a gander through the Comics category on Flayrah for some reviews.

A friend loaned me his copy of Beasts of Burden, and I really enjoyed it. (There's a bunch of other recommendations, but that's my most recent read...)

u/TrustMeImLeifEricson · 1 pointr/creepy

There are a few short stories on Dark Horse's site and there's at least one hardcover collection.

u/Musical_life · 1 pointr/sailormoon

So I've heard and the boxes themselves support that tidbit.

Yep, it was s Japanese webcomic that the author made into a graphic novel, and that's what just came out in English last year. It's excellent! I found out about it from a queer book club at my local store

I'm big into anime, reading/writing/words in general + board games. My lists reflect that somewhat ! I started reading when I was 3-4 thanks to my oldest sister, and many classmates and teachers were surprised or even disbelieving when I entered preschool already able to read. I got called a nerd since elementary but I never took it as an insult, since I really enjoyed reading and I saw it as the reason I was able to do so well in school in the first place (though referred to as a nerd, I actually was never very studious). I was also called a "walking dictionary" during junior high, which I also took as compliment!

Board games is a funny one. I always liked the classics growing up and went out of my way to learn the more "obscure" ones like backgammon and othello, but didn't know about "modern" board games until I started college, where I walked into an "English conversation club" meeting out of curiosity (they used anime characters in their posters...) . Turns out, they played board games as a way to naturally get conversation going. And it seemed to work really well, and I loved it! Though English is my second language I learned it early enough (at around 7 y/o) that I didn't gain much skill from the actual purpose of the club, but I think it definitely helped me develop socially in general, plus it was nice to interact with different international students. I came to love board games because of it and once I ended up coming back home to community college was able to continue the habit by briefly becoming a regular at a board game cafe. I'm busier these days, but have by now gathered my own small collection of board games (':

u/GeassedbyLelouch · 1 pointr/Gunnm

This one?

That's 6 volumes of the Deluxe Editions, 5 of them are the 1) I described above and the 6th one is the "1.5") from above.

u/Jujarmazak · 1 pointr/Gunnm

Hardcover collection condenses the comics volumes from (9) to (5) volumes only if I'm not mistaken, the boxed collection even comes with a 6th book that has several side stories, it's a good buy if you can get it with low cost shipping because otherwise it would be really expensive (weights 15 pounds)-->https://www.amazon.com/Battle-Angel-Alita-Deluxe-Complete/dp/1632367114

Either order the five deulxe volumes one by one (I'm doing that) or continue on the kindle version (then there are the Last Order omnibus collections which are quite huge because they condense a lot of material since Last Order is way longer than Alita's original run XD)

u/KKHHFF · 1 pointr/shieldbro

I'm not sure if you can read it online for free but you can order the books Kindle and physical version on Amazon. I'm sure most book stores likes Barnes and Noble will also sell it.

LN has been translated by One Peace Books and can be bought on Amazon. The manga is based on the LN. If you want to give the WN a try here are the epubs.

u/JMACOB · 1 pointr/shieldbro

You can buy them from YenPress here
Or you can read the translations from here

u/tomvs123 · 1 pointr/nier

Here's the ones I've either bought or want. They're all official:

Grimoire Nier (Japanese only). There's fan translations on the web of this: https://www.amazon.com/GRIMOIRE-Project-Gestalt-Replicant-Japanese/dp/4048686712/

Drakengard 3 art book and guide (Japanese only). https://www.amazon.com/dp/4048660861/

Nier Automata world guide volume 1 (English). I suppose there might be a volume 2 coming in the future: https://www.amazon.com/NieR-Automata-World-Guide-1/dp/150671031X/

And for the poorly-translated novels. Get only if you're not irritated by bad sentence structure, typos, and translation errors.

For those who don't know what this book is:

This is a novelization of the game with some additional content. It was originally released in August 2017 and has been partly fan-translated not long after.

The English translation is done by the unknown people of VIZ who probably just bought the license and isn't connected to Square Enix (which is not even mentioned on the store page).

Thus the quality of the translation/localization is very debatable and it is advised to take it with a grain of salt until someone who've read the original can comment on it.

The "Vol.1" in the title, as well as the title itself, are most likely a localization choice to promote the next book which comes out in 2019.

The book is available on Amazon.

There is a box set for the first part, it is cheaper than buying the single books, $80 for 14 books seems a good price to me: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1974703185/

For the second part (Tokyo Ghoul:re) there isn't one yet, but if you wait until it finishes being released in english, a box set for it should appear

I don't want to get anybody's hopes up but there is this curious listing on Amazon.

It's been up for quite a while now. I haven't seen any discussion about it but it seems to me to be a little too specific for a simple placeholder which are of course a common occurrence on Amazon otherwise. Not only does the format listing say hardcover but the description also specifies hardcover. Couple that with the price as well as the publishing company changing Manga Theory and Practice covers to match the JoJoniums and my optimistic side thinks (and hopes) that there's a good chance for the JoJoniums to continue.

Only time will tell!
