Direct Link to the 1.13 Firmware update

I just played some Rocket League to test it out and it seems to work flawlessly with no perceptible lag and rumble support. The buttons correspond to the button position on the Pro Controller, so the transition was seamless.

Only the newer Xbox One controllers are supported since the earlier ones didn't have Bluetooth. I am running on the latest firmware(5.0) for the Switch as well.

The adapter is available from Amazon for $20.

Edit - This usually gets asked everytime so let me preemptively say No,Third Party Controllers do not support Amiibo.

u/AlphaNERDSolid · 55 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The article does not go into detail. Seems like all he did is plugging it into an adapter. The adapter he used is the Mayflash MagicNS adapter. 8bitdo also offers such an adapter, however that is strictly wireless.

It's cool to see that he used an adapter for the adaptive controller on the Switch but at the end of the day it's all that he did. Nothing new in this regard.

> This bricked my Nintendo Switch. Please be careful when buying this. I'm currently talking to Nintendo about replacement or service but I had no idea this could happen.

Hence why adapters like this and this are already a thing.

Get an 8bitdo wireless adapter! I actually just picked one up for other games and I have been using my ps4 controller on the switch. Sadly I think your biggest problem will be that let’s go doesn’t support pro controllers and only uses the buttons to throw the ball in handheld mode.

Here it is on amazon though i have seen it around other places!

I've got this one: 8bitdo

I like the adapter it comes with as well, because it allows me to plug in my USB Hori pad when undocked.

I personally use my PS4 controller on the Switch with the 8bitdo adapter and it works great wirelessly with rumble and motion as well. Also connects to PC. I haven’t tried it myself but the Xbox One controller should work too.

For any curious, there is also a Mayflash adapter which looks like it does basically the same as the 8bitdo one for around the same price.

Where there's a will there's a way.
Even if it doesn't work that well it'd still be worth it if you can pull even a single win with a wiimote.

u/CuriousMapleTree · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I just bought a Switch last week and over the week bought BOTW, MM2, and MK8. I was torn between a PS4 and a Switch, but have been so happy with my decision.

What I wanted to mention though, is how easy it is to get your X1 or PS4 controllers to work on the Switch. I'm not crazy about the joycons, and it was eating me up thinking I had to spend $89.99(cdn) to get a second controller (pro) so my friends and family could play when they are over.

So i started looking for 3rd party controllers, which lead me to finding 8bitdo, which is a company that makes controllers across all gens of consoles, as well as lots of adapters and other gaming things.

I bought this adapter for $25 and it will let you use your ps4, xbox, or other controllers on the Switch.

This was perfect since I alread had two PS4 controllers for my PC. Once the adapter showed up the same day (thanks Amazon) it was as simple as plugging the USB adapter directly into the Switch, and hitting pair on the adapter, then the PS and share button on the controller, and boom, it worked just like that.

Full rumble, full motion controls, and I get to keep using my favourite controllers on the Switch, with seemingly no compromises. :).

u/KvshMacGuyver · 7 pointsr/SwitchHacks

If you have a PS4, Xbox or Bluetooth controller you’re better off getting this 8bitdo. Let’s you connect to the switch in docked and comes with an adapter for handheld. Not very good for handheld but is an option

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L9SL7ZT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/survivorofthefire · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I purchased one a couple months back. Tabletop mode is definitely included as it is compatible with joycons and all controllers the regular switch is compatible with. Handheld works the same.

I ended up trading mine in and paying the difference for a regular switch because I realized the desire to play on my monitor was outweighing the convenience of the portability. But YMMV, that was just me.

It's a good system just remember that it is completely incompatible with TV mode at all as it lacks the hardware to output video. The only game I can think off the top of my head that is out of the box incompatible with switch lite handheld mode is Super Mario Party. But all you need really is a pro controller or joycons or some sort of external controller, hope this helps.

PS. if you wish to play it in tabletop mode, absolutely buy a stand for it, I recommend HORIs USB stand

u/PraiseDannyWoodhead · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

On the original Nintendo dock, it helps greatly to weight down that little spring-loaded plate around the USB-C port to prevent the extension cable from disconnecting. There's an extender that has a built in block to achieve that task but with any standard USB extender, anything that fits and is heavy enough will work fine. I mainly use the Best Buy dock due to the size and restricted entry angle of the original one.

u/horrorslice · 6 pointsr/Switch

I don't have a PS4 but it says you can.. I think. Ninja edit after reading. It's not so clear. Not on my PC so I'll get back to you.

u/ajbrensike · 6 pointsr/TeslaLounge

It can connect via Bluetooth, not with Tesla internal system though, but for $20 you can get a 8Bitdo dongle, and that can connect to a xbox one controller. Tested and played cuphead on the Tesla last night with this setup. Works perfectly.

So the last thing on my list super low key a great thing to have but can be pricey and not at all necessary but buying a second dock was a game changer for me. Its really nice to go from living room to my bedroom and just pick up and drop the switch into the next dock without worry.

u/ke5pay · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

It is not dockable. The case adds about a third to the thickness however it does fit in the case I have and I believe it will fit most other cases. Having said that it takes up enough space that you cannot fit as much in the case, for mine I can get a cord in the pouch but only a small AC adapter. I am personally using this adapter in order to "dock" the unit and treating my joycons as non-removable as it is a bit of a bother to take the case off.

Yeah I felt that too when I tried the demo on the switch. I think it is because of the offset analog sticks when compared to the playstation's controller with the analog sticks on the same axis. I've seen a usb dongle that can allow the switch to accept any bluetooth controller so you could play with a ps3 or ps4 controller. These are two I've looked at since the regular joycons keep cramping my hands.

8bitdo

Mayflash

u/F_S_Rocks · 4 pointsr/VideoGameDealsCanada

I honestly don't recommend getting one, instead consider picking up one of these. It's an adapter that lets you pair pretty much any Bluetooth controller with the switch. Useful if you have controllers for other consoles laying around and waaaay cheaper then a pro controller. I honestly think every switch owner should have one, they're that handy.

u/Lucifronz · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I haven't bought one, myself (intend to, though, so I can connect my Xbox One controller to my PC when I feel like it), so I can't speak on the quality of any.

Personally a cheap dongle doesn't seem like the best of ideas, because I worry about the quality. Not just whether it'll break (which is less problematic due to the usually condensed size, although the possibility is still there), but because dongles like that don't interact well with updates.

My uncle used a simple wifi adapter for his PC back when he used Windows 7 or 8. Then he updated to Windows 10 and it not only had issues working, but it outright caused crashing when used above a certain download limit. After a while just opening an internet browser guaranteed a blue screen.

That's before and after Windows 10 reinstalls.

So I elect to find something a bit more quality. I have considered the 8Bitdo adapter, myself, because it could also be used for my Switch if I need an extra controller for whatever reason. Although it's unnecessarily large, which is a problem of its own.

u/dungorthb · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I am using this one and I love it, no issues and I even leave it in plugged over night sometimes by accident and no issues.

u/zandengoff · 3 pointsr/vita

Just an FYI, you can do this now

u/deraphus86 · 3 pointsr/PlaystationClassic

So was I when it started and it’s a lot easier now.

The hardest part is going to be finding a usb drive that’s compatible. You need a relatively low capacity drive to go in the 2nd player slot, the reason it needs to be a certain type is the power supply is very limited to the front so most won’t work. I believe there is a list online of ones that’ll work. Of you want to test one you already own then follow the guide till you get to test it and see, if nothing else it’s a good practice run for you.

If you want use of the 2nd player you’ll then need to install the custom kernel (all in the guide) and big an OTG adaptor. This also means you can buy a much bigger drive and upload more content.

This is the guide I used:

https://youtu.be/ydLKv1HUd0A

This is the OTG cable I bought

Zerone Right Left Angle Micro USB... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07FMYFJVT?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This is the wireless adapter I use for my PS4 controller (also works with Xbone)

8Bitdo Wireless Bluetooth Adapter... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0786JC6VW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

And this is the drive I’m now using after setting up OTG

SanDisk SDCZ60-128G-B35 Cruzer... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007YX9OGW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

These will give you an idea of expense, completely depending on how deep you want to go down the rabbit hole. You can just get yourself a working drive for the 2nd slot and play 1 player games no problem.

Completely up to you!

u/qwertylerqw · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I’ve never heard of that controller but 8BitDo is good for a controller with a good d-pad. I would recommend waiting for the SN30 Pro+ to come out because it’ll be much more comfortable than the current SN30 Pro

I have the wired SN30 Pro and it’s d-pad is fantastic. It’s a nice cheaper option

You can also use 8BitDo’s adapter or the MayFlash adapter to use a DS4 controller on the Switch if you already have one

u/cjbeames · 3 pointsr/AndroidTV

Perhaps this 8Bitdo USB adapter?

u/copysonic · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I personally recommend the 8bitdo device because it doesn’t look as stupid as others. 8bitdo is also an amazing company.

u/Lorben · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Mayflash Magic-NS or an 8bitdo adapter.

Pros for Mayflash -

Mayflash has a USB pass through on it so you can use controllers as wired controllers. Because of that it can work with some controllers that don't work as wireless because they lack bluetooth, such as the older pre-bluetooth Xbox One controllers or Xbox 360 controllers.

Cons for Mayflash -

Feels cheaper than the 8bitdo adapters. Sync\controller type button is super small and annoying to use.

Pros for 8bitdo -

Feels better built. Sync button is not as bad to use. Looks nicer attached to the dock.

Cons for 8bitdo -

Does not allow controllers to be used as wired controllers. Will not work with pre-bluetooth Xbox One controllers or 360 controllers. You need to update the firmware with a computer before first use. Costs an extra couple bucks.

u/Player8 · 3 pointsr/PS4

8bitdo adapter for the switch. Only works in the dock or with a usb c dongle. Like 20 bucks. I highly recommend it if you want a pro controller but don’t wanna shell out 70 bucks for it. I use my spare Xbox one controller on my switch so me and a friend can play Mario kart.

Only real downside is you can’t use the Xbox or PlayStation controller to turn the console on, so you either have to do it by hand or turn it on with the joycon then switch to the other controller.

I used to be a big D-Pad guy and only moved to analog sticks for Smash Ultimate. My recommendation would be a Dualshock 3 (or 4 if you must) with the 8Bitdo Wireless Bluetooth Adapter https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0786JC6VW
DS3 is still my preferred D-Pad.

Personally I really like the Nintendo Pro controller, but if you want to use your Xbox controller on the Switch I believe that's possible.

I totally agree, I can recommend the bt adaptor from homespot:

While it's definitely something Nintendo should have included, it gets the job done, works flawlessly with my Sony mdr 1000x, as well as my Jabra Elite Active 65t :)

u/queuebitt · 3 pointsr/Switch

Here's the one I use. It pairs with my AirPods when flying.

TROND Bluetooth Transmitter/Receiver

I used these to velcro attach it to the Switch. I but a strip in half and place the soft side on the Switch.

Command Black Picture Hanging Strips

And I use a really short 3.5mm cables with right cable connectors on both ends. Forget where I got it, wasn't on Amazon at the time. A local electronics or music store might have something similar. Or use your Google fu.

If I were to get a USB-C connecting model I'd look at the HomeSpot Bluetooth Audio Transmitter Adapter. About the same total cost, and just one the piece with no setup required. But you can't listen and charge at the same time.

grip case

paw caps (I got the 02 and 03 sets)

dock extender

display stand

I got the joycons and a rechargeable joycon grip from Target.

u/danielfletcher · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Strips and chargers are minimal. But TV's create an RF field, plus you have that big metal back on them. So issues for Wifi and bluetooth. Even cordless phone base units can cause wifi interference.

I have my Switch dock tucked away, and I just have a decent USB-C extension cable running from it and I have a Lamicall multi-angle stand for when I want to run the Switch docked. It is a PITA to put a USB-C extension cable in though, so you could look into something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Extender-Nintendo-Support-Transfer/dp/B072LWBYDV

u/naive-dragon · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Look into buying one of the Dock Extender cables. I use a Satisfye Grip myself, and after buying the dock extender I've never needed to take the grip off for docked gaming.

u/Mazzuolo · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It’s possible for any 3rd party dock to brick your Switch, so using any unofficial dock is not advised. Something you could use to keep the case on your Switch and still use the official dock is an extender like this.

u/Kraivyne · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

> shipping and tax) but shipping times are YMMV. I got mine in about 2 weeks, so you have to weigh out what's better. Personally, I would have gone with Amazon if it were available at the time.

I ordered one of these and just have it sitting next to the dock. It's not ideal but works!

u/ninusc92 · 2 pointsr/xboxone

true, tbh I stopped using my dock traditionally once I noticed it was leaving scuffs on the console from sliding in/out (mine is on a shelf, so I have to go in & out at an angle) so this solved that problem. I have a case and screen protector on it as well.

u/ThenThereWasReddit · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This accessory did away with all my docking woes. Works flawlessly so far.

u/jpierc23 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I can't speak for just a standard extension cable, but I've been using this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072LWBYDV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Which is basically an extension cable for 5+ months with no issues. Also, I've been using it post update with no problems whatsoever. However, YMMV.

u/P0rtableAnswers · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Around summertime I recall reading about docks like [these] (https://www.amazon.com/Fyoung-Type-C-Adapter-Nintendo-Converter/dp/B074RGQ261/ref=sr_1_6?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1511521106&sr=1-6&keywords=nintendo+switch+dock) including a disclaimer that warned that it could brick the console if the cables were not connected/disconnected in a precise order.

Here is another claim from a reddit user regarding a different model.

If the Nyko one is potentially dangerous...I'm highly skeptical to put trust in other ones right now.

u/wholesomealt2 · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I ordered one of these or here ; they're the same product

According to se1000, jim13x, nikesv2 here on XDA, it works for DeX

u/dalnk · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS9

It works well enough, but it's limited to 1080p at least for me. I got the DeX Pad to use 1440p officially. I know there are some newer options on Amazon so search around. No stutters but recently the cable started ro fray after like 8 months of everyday use.

So the key to the bootleg ones working is you need to find one that says USB C to DisplayPort but has HDMI. Samsung used some cheaper license on their usb-c to HDMI converter thru DisplayPort first, because apparently you need to pay more for the direct HDMI one or at least it's different connection.

So all of the ones I'll link below should work:

Gear VR for sure, you can order an USB C to HDMI adapter that will mirror your screen AND/OR launch Dex with it like this one for $27 and once you launch Dex mode the phone turns into a touchpad. Uses USB C in to power it, HDMI out to your tv/monitor, free USB 3.1 port for say a Logitech Unifying Adapter which lets you connect both wireless keyboard and mouse. With a USB hub you can even use a USB Ethernet adapter, USB thumb drives, etc. It's pretty much Dex at 1/3 the cost. I use the one in the link and it does not make my phone hot at all.
If you don't like or use the Gear VR sell it for some extra money, looking at sold listings on ebay the Gear VR should net you more money.

Samsung 2017 TV owner here. Bought an 8BitDo off amazon and plugged it into my TV and it works like a charm. I use my PS4 controller, but the pairing process is super easy and identical. I also used a male-to-female USB extension cable to let the 8BitDo hang down in an easily accessible area so I can re-pair my controller if I end up playing PS4 and then coming back.

Link to the exact one I bought:

Side note: Haven’t bothered to try and look into it, but when I end remote play, I get an odd green band across the bottom 1/16th of the screen. That goes away with a power cycle and I think is just some kind of odd artifact in the UI.

Here is the one I've used. Also, the one made for NES/SNES Classics is several dollars cheaper and I'm pretty sure that they can be used with a Pi by plugging it in with the provided micro USB to USB cable as I've seen others say it works. I actually own one of the SNES Classic retro receivers, so I can try it out later when I get a chance to confirm.

Absolutely! This is what I grabbed off Amazon for $20:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0786JC6VW/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_IHzYCbRKGV6Y1

I haven't had any issues with it so far. The only quirky thing I've had happen was sometimes it will allow me to turn on the switch from the PS4 controller and sometimes not, so I just hit the button from a joycon and then use the PS4 controller. Also you can only pair one controller to the dongle.

If anyone picks one up I'd update the firmware on it before using the dongle. It's a quick download and install that takes only a few minutes.

Speaking of which [these adapters] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0786JC6VW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DvANBb2P0FC50) are amazing. You can use Ps4, Xbox and WiiU Pro controllers on the Switch (and PC, Mac or Raspberry Pi)! Works out of the box and I’m surprised people haven’t talked much about them here.

u/_softlite · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

DS4 work with the Switch in docked mode by plugging in an adapter to the dock, but I'm not sure which adapter you're referring to. If you already own the controller and adapter, you can test and find out. If not, I would recommend buying an adapter that's known to work, such as the 8Bitdo or Mayflash Magic-NS.

u/HayesCooper19 · 2 pointsr/hardwareswap

I don't think a 7 year old would feel cramped on the joycons, but a pro controller is still a good investment. I'd also recommending checking this out as alternative that could save a few bucks if you have a bluetooth controller lying around or picked up a Wii U Pro controller super cheap.

u/grymmhain · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This would probably work similar to the USB adapter that was just released to let you pair other controllers. You’d have to set the pro controller settings to wired. And of course use it with the USB cable attached.

Only issue is a couple of buttons are mapped weird. More of a struggle in the menus. In game they function just like the ps4 controller except the map and capture buttons are switched.

u/fifosexapel · 2 pointsr/MarioMaker2

I love the Pro Controller, but I have heard people complain about the D-Pad. I have never had an issue with mine, but I have not played a lot D-Pad intensive games with it.

I have heard good things about the Power A controllers (both the gamecube style and the pro controller style) but I haven't used them myself. The wired ones can be found for around $25 and the wireless for $40 so they might be a good choice as a second controller if you don't want to spend too much.

I own this Gamecube adapter that lets you connect both GCN and has a Wii Classic Controller socket, which means you can connect the controllers from the mini consoles to the Switch - which I plan to do to play SMM2 levels.

I'm also considering this 8 bit do adapter that lets you connect PS4, Xbox and Wii U Pro controllers to switch, since I really like the WIi U Pro and it's just gathering dust at home.

Though I don't understand why Nintendo didn't give the Switch the ability to pair Bluetooth headsets natively. Their implementation of voice chat w/ the smartphone app is beyond retarded. As far as I can tell, I don’t have anywhere else I can l plug it into at this house. One of these days, I’ll get a power bank so I won’t have to run into this issue. I hardly travel my Switch so I normally won’t encounter this kind of problem anyway.

You can always buy a USB Type C extender: plug it into where the switch would normally connect in the dock, then you can just lay your Switch flat and plug in the USB type C cable.

However, any USB type 3 female to male will work.

u/TheToonWolf · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I did the thing with loosening the screws on the dock. It's easy enough honestly. And if you're still wary of it, you can use something like this to just plug the Switch in and rest it on top: https://www.amazon.com/Extender-Cable-Nintendo-Switch-Support-Transfer/dp/B072LWBYDV/

u/strafethewall · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

one of these And you won’t have to put it in the dock, you can leave it in a case.

u/Hunter2451 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

This right here is the best case I've ever used. (UK link) They say that you can use it with the dock but I don't suggest relying on the ability to dock the switch. We have 3 of them and right now two of them dock but one of them doesn't. Mine feels really tight if I try to dock it so I got one of these (UK link) which eliminated the case docking issue.

EDIT: Looks like the UK link only has the switch case and not the carry case. You might be able to find one on eBay or something similar.

Best advice I can give a new Switch owner, is don't use that dock. Get a usb-c extension cable, run that from your dock which you can hide somewhere, to the Switch. Keep the Switch on one of these slick stands, and in one of these grip cases. It will not get scratched, will stay cooler, and look nicer. Plus you never need to remove the grip case now.

These are what I got, many type of stands to choose from though.

Here you go - just in case anyone else needs one - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072LWBYDV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I went with this because a typical USB-C extender cable doesn't push down properly and is prone to pop out. This was designed to keep all 3 levels in place.

Has worked flawlessly for me in the month or so I've been using it.

I wish my Skull & Co Case would dock properly so I didn't need it, but considering I could only ever get the display to pop up once in dozens of tries, I figured this is the safest bet and also keeps the heat down. It always sucks to buy more things, but this also leaves open the possibility of getting different cases maybe?

EDIT: I should add that I have opted to keep my Hori Stand out at all times and just place it on the stand when it's docked. Just seemed more preferable than dropping it on my entertainment center haha.

For your second point, there's still a way to dock your Switch even if it has a protective case on it. All you have to do is get one of those dock extender cables that allow you to plug your Switch into the dock without actually physically docking it. This way, you can keep your Switch in its protective case and still easily switch between handheld and docked mode.

I'm protective about my electronics, so I always throw cases on them as soon as I get them. This is the accessory I use, and it's been working great so far. Better airflow too

I got this design, there are a couple floating around but this one has ventilation holes. I didn't buy from this particular buyer so this isn't a referal sort of thing: https://m.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-Switch-Portable-Replacement-Dock-DIY-Mount-Case-w-USB-and-HDMI-Port-/401386048872
There are versions of this without the ventilation holes if you're into that.
Though be warned you will have to take apart a Nintendo dock for this.
The alternative (which I also have) is a ultra portable dock that you can find on amazon -- I personally use this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074RGQ261/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_guWgAbHYM589V
Which is a standalone dock that can also output to tv mode with a battery pack, or any power source. (Though you will only get tv mode with charging during gameplay with an ac adapter like the one you get with the OG dock; otherwise you will drain battery slowly while playing and charge while not, or just drain slowly but constantly if you use a shitty USB wall charger)
The other alternative is the nyko dock, but the two things I mentioned covers everything that it does anyway.

Edit: Additionally you can just buy a stand for the Switch on amazon for like $5 that holds up the Switch so you can have something plugged into it while you play.

Yeah my bad you did mention that. For that you need this adapter.

Personally I think one of those third party wired controllers they sell for the Switch is a better deal. The PowerA Plus Super Mario Edition Controller will be $20 on Black Friday at Best Buy.

Is it safe to use something like this with Nintendo Switch, since it's just an extension cable and not a dock or a charger? My roommates and I each have one and we are being overly cautious right now, just in case there is any risk of bricking.

The easiest way to do it is with this. It allows you to use pretty much any wireless console controller on both PC and Switch. I use it so I can use my Wii U Pro Controller on PC and Switch but it works with DualShock4s, 360 pads, and pretty much any other mainstream pad.

For those of you considering getting a new controller, you should consider the 8bitdo wireless adapter or something similar. It's a lot cheaper than a pro controller and is compatible with PS4 controllers, so if you have one lying around this is pretty cost effective. You can only connect one controller to one adapter keep in mind.

Well, everybody has their priorities I guess. In my case, I don't find the joycons uncomfortable enough to complain after modding them to have a D-Pad.

If you play your Switch in docked mode, you could always grab one of these and use a DS4 with it. I tend to use my Switch in portable mode so that's not an option for me.

u/alittlebeat · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Yeah 8bitdo has this controller adapter for only $20 if you want to use your dualshock 4 on Switch. I almost got that myself but I decided to wait until the SN30 Pro+ was released because I wanted a good proper dpad lol

u/pxlsquid · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

i got both too, and my switch pro controller just collects dust. honestly never thought i would prefer a third party controller to a first party one but here we are. so much stuff i play on switch warrants a good d-pad and that $70 pro controller just ain't got it.

another suggestion is that if you have and prefer something like a ps4 controller, you can use that with your switch. these adapters will let you use pretty much any controller with the switch. i used the Mayflash one and it works like a charm. until i got the 8bitdo using a ps4 controller to play Mario Maker 2 was the next best thing.

https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Bluetooth-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch-Raspberry/dp/B0786JC6VW

Would motion controls still work?

u/peachey777 · 1 pointr/wiiu

If you get fed up with that like I did, there's a few adapters you could get that would make this process super easy.

I like this one from 8bitdo. Plug it in the pc, hit thee sync button on the adapter, then on the controller, and it will now be connected and seen as an Xbox controller. Works with PS3, PS4, Wii U, Switch, and Xbox Controllers (the bluetooth ones). This also lets you hook up all those controllers to a Nintendo Switch.

https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Bluetooth-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch-Raspberry/dp/B0786JC6VW/

Mayflash also masks basically the same thing as that 8bitdo adapter. It has extra quirks like setting the mode on the adapter for the device you've plugged it into. A cool bonus for this device is you can use it with a modded Wii U. I use a Switch Pro Controller on my Wii U with this

https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Magic-NS-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo/dp/B079B5KHWQ/

Mayflash also makes another device that's literally just for Wii U Pro controllers to PC and nothing else. Connects the controller as an Xbox or direct input controller.

https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Wireless-Wii-Controller-Adapter/dp/B00E6553PW/

u/Tyr808 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

If you hate the dpad, you can get a dual shock 4 (might still be on sale at Amazon) and the 8bitdo USB adapter (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0786JC6VW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_RJ3-BbAKCBXWQ).

Yes, this allows you to use the DS4 on a switch, it also allows use of motion controls. I don't know how well motion controls work on the ds4 vs the switch cons, but I've heard that this set up works flawlessly.

I personally did the dpad mod with some tape over the electrical contact points. It did slightly reduce the rate of wrong directions from rolling the dpad back and forth, but the design of the switch pro controller dpad means that it will never be as accurate as the joycons even if it's more comfortable. Rolling left right left right is almost always going to throw an up or down in the mix.

8bitdo also makes SNES looking controllers that work natively on the Switch as well. I've heard the newer models are nicer than the old ones.

Note that any of these solutions will lose HD rumble because that is exclusive to Nintendo first party controllers.

I also have small hands, and generally find the XBone & PS controllers uncomfortable, but also my fingers end up in pain if I play with keyboard.

So I play with a Switch Pro controller. You could just plug it in via cable, and have something like Steam convert the input for you (I did this for a while), but I found that 8Bitdo makes a USB Bluetooth adapter that basically tricks the computer into thinking you have a XBox controller plugged in.

Hey, I ended up purchasing this thing which lets you pair the controller with the adapter and it handles all the complicated directinput/xinput stuff by itself (only downside is that the PC will detect it as an XBox360 controller, which means the gyroscope won't work, but if you're not planning to use it then it's not a problem).

Worked like a charm since then.

I just recently did a lot of research myself on the Switch and the options. This is what I have to say:

With the Lites, each would have "their own" and could play at the same time.
With Nintendo Family, there will be elements of game sharing available, but you will still be buying mult copies of games at times.

Just one Switch Red box, will limit them to playing together. With a WiiU and the 2 3DS's, they will have options, although the switch is the cooler new thing, and they will want more facetime with that.

One thing to mention is, the Switch Red Box will come with a dock to hook up to a TV. While the Lite's do not. Also, I would recommend researching 3rd party docks. I did recently and with some of the results, I only feel comfortable with the Nintendo Dock. Which is another $100 I think.

Sidenote: You might look at this guy 8Bitdo This plugs into the switch and allows you to use an existing PS4 controller (or xbone with BT) with your switch. They also make 3rd party controllers as well. Since you're a PS4 dad, you might have an extra, and if you want to join in on some SMASHBROTHERS!!! you can use your own controller and feel comfortable. (also recommend Breath of the Wild...but you might take over your kids new Switch once you try it)

Also to clarify, I don't have a Switch yet; hoping I can hold out for Black Friday and get a good deal (if there are any) on the console. Got a friend that loaned us his to try...yeah, its nice. You might buy a Switch Red Box, 8BitDo, and a Switch Lite....so you have two Switch's for the kids, and well....the Red Box for you/kids to share. I am a PC gamer and the Switch has me pumped to try it out/play some games on it.

Tldr: Just bought the 8 bitdo adapter linked below, I love it, can I use my synced Xbox controller to turn on the switch?

----------

So, I was here a few days ago asking about a cheap wireless controller. Instead of the controller, because I have a spare Xbox One X controller I don't use much, I ended up buying this

8Bitdo Wireless Controller Adapter for Nintendo Switch,Windows,Mac & Raspberry Pi with a OTG Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B7LMM52/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_mQhJBbTD6A2G7

It's already synced up, but if the Switch is off, and I hold the power button on the Xbox controller, it looks like it turns on, but the Switch never turns on, and eventually the controller starts rumbling like it's trying to connect.

There's already plenty of BT transmitters with AptX-LL support, from USB ones for PC/Mac use, to models more suited for home theater use with optical input and the ability to stream to two headphones simultaneously, and even USB-C stuff meant for the Nintendo Switch...

I dunno how adaptive AptX stacks up latency-wise, seems like a riff on the variable bitrate ability of LDAC but I've not seen a lot of transmitters with LDAC either and that's been out longer... So it might be a while for adaptive AptX. AptX-LL works more than fine for TV watching or gaming tho...

u/smellslikekimchi · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I just got a Homespot bluetooth transmitter for my Switch and I love it. It lets you connect bluetooth headsets to the Switch, which isn't a feature built in for some odd reason. It's got a small form factor and 2 players can use their own headsets on it at one time. It's got a super low latency codec too if the headset supports it. $40 on Amazon.

u/AMysticalAlliance · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

No. Those adapters (made for cars) are receivers, they take the audio from your phone wirelessly and output it to the headphone jack (which is connected to your car).

What you want is a transmitter since the switch is outputting audio.

Something like this would work:

There's plenty of other options via usb-c, some with their own usb-c port so that you can use the bluetooth adapter and still charge the switch and others that are smaller but without that feature. Sure. Thing is tho I used a scissor to alter the bottom of the S&C grip case. If you look on the back of grip going about an inch up from bottom and mostly thru middle of the back of case from side to side there is an indent that surrounds the open plug on bottom of Switch. I cut using that line. Has no impact on stability of case. But now I can use any adapter I want.
