You probably don't need the flir but I've heard good things about the cat phones

Band 5 is used in one city in South Carolina, so let's ignore that one. Not having band 12 is basically making the phone worthless these days, and not having 66 or 71 is getting worse and worse by the day as the deployment rolls out.

So yeah, that Nexus 5 is going to give major issues on the network now. If you want something cheap and without bloat, look for a Nokia with Android One. Nexus experience, pretty much.

Another option would be the Essential Phone, which is a bit older, but was a flagship 2 years ago and have a stock Android feel.

You can also get a OnePlus 5T on amazon for $440 with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. Flagship of its time, great specs all around, headphone jack, and still only about 10 months old. It’s very well reviewed, sold by OnePlus, and generally a great phone still.

Amazon international unlocked OnePlus 5T:

Seriously, I’ve heard this phone will offer everything you need and more for an excellent price (and $60 the original at that, which was already extremely well priced). The experience with this phones is very well rated.

u/slade412 · 9 pointsr/NoContract

The xiaomi phones are nice, but they don't have all of the LTE bands required to have an enjoyable experience in the US.

For your price range, I would look at the Moto G6 or wait a couple months for the G7 to come out.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CHWMYHP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_DBAvCbTTGTNRY

Or look for a gently used flagship on Swappa. Maybe a One Plus 6, Pixel 2 or S9.

u/ckelley87 · 7 pointsr/Austin

Alternatively, you can buy a number of Android phones for like $50, like this one: BLU Advance 5.0 - Unlocked Dual Sim Smartphone - US GSM - White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018IZ0VLQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_6.QnxbVQ1RVWJ

If your regular phone has tethering, you can just use the phone over wifi so you don't have to get a separate plan for it.

Edit: I think you can even find this at the Fry's on MoPac & Parmer, maybe for a little more money since it's a retail location, but I've definitely seen BLU products there.

First off, looks like I confused you a bit with the pricing. The prices I mentioned were from the German market and included 20% tax. I used them both because I don't know a good US price search site and because I wasn't sure pricing is comparable since you guys seem to still be more carrier bound than we in Europe.

Anyway, converted in US Dollar w/o sales tax the German price for the S5 would be around 295 Dollar and the S5 Neo 240 Dollar. Amazon.com shows both Verizon and ATT compatible unlocked s5 for around 300 Dollar but the Neo seems to be missing on that market.

Anyway, I would actually prefer the S5 Neo over most of those phones simply because I like OLED screens as well as swappable batteries and its still cheaper. It also has features missing in all but the HTC phones like APT-X that I need.

That being said, neither the HTC phones or OnePlus Two have praticullary good screens:

> With poor greyscale accuracy, irregular gamma, and inaccurate rendition of primary and secondary colors, there's no hope for accurate color mixtures on the OnePlus 2's display. There's really not much more to be said. We're not talking about the kind of inaccuracy that you'd get from an oversaturated panel, but instead just general inaccuracy where no color is quite how it should be. It seems like OnePlus just focused on making sure the panel matched the sRGB gamut and put no effort into any further calibration.

> The display quality of the OnePlus 2 is not impressive at all. For a $400 phone this is simply unacceptable, and it's such an enormous regression from the OnePlus One

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9828/the-oneplus-2-review/5

The M8 is also not faster than the S5 but for 150 Dollar I agree its a steal and the reasonable choice. The Nexus 5P is also great value even though I would hate being stuck with 32GB on a phone.

The even better choice than all of those including the Samsung would probably be the LG G4 - 32 GB at 300 US Dollar.

Fellow MetroPCSer to the rescue! Well you have a couple options from what MetroPCS sells and there's a few unlocked options as well. If I were you I'd head into a local MetroPCS store and check out the LG Stylo 3 Plus, or the ZTE Blade Z Max. Both are significantly larger than what you had. 5.7" and 6.0" screens. But they're both good, the ZTE Blade Z Max has significantly better dual cameras than the Stylo 3 Pluses single camera. If you want something a little smaller than the 5.5" cut off that is sold by MetroPCS I'd go with the LG K20 Plus, 5.2" screen size. If any of those look good check out Swappa, I picked up a Mint condition Blade Z Max for my wife for $100.

If you want new options under $200 I'd recommend you look at the Honor 7x, or the ZTE Blade V8 Pro. But here's my under $200 recommendation list.

It's a pretty standard contract that exists with every carrier in Canada. You sign a 2 year contract and they give you a subsidized phone.

As others have stated, go on Kijiji or go to Costco/Amazon and get an unlocked phone. This one is $80.00.

u/Naparizel · 5 pointsr/funny

You fucking retarded or something? The s10+ Performace Edition has 1 terabyte of storage and 12 gigabytes of memory, and this one has a headphone jack and a fingerprint scanner! https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Phone-Display-Front-Facing-Speakers/dp/B077B91954?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_2 this phone has 8gb of ram and it's their second phone ever made, oh, and it's only $400.

Possibly relevant as a replacement phone, the BLU Advance is $80 Canadian, free shipping, on Amazon.ca:

fwiw, it's the cheapest unlocked, direct to consumer phone I've been able to find that has actually been worth getting.

Try looking at the [Sony Xperia XZ1 for $485 on Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Xperia-Factory-Unlocked-Phone/dp/B074P5FMG6/ref=sr_1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1524166508&sr=1-4&keywords=sony+xz1), the Honor View10 for $499, both come with treble so dev support shouldn't be too bad, though the honor comes with a bigger battery, while the xz1 has waterproofing

u/CoconutLetto · 4 pointsr/PickAnAndroidForMe

Not sure about what to look for in a rugged phone or a camera, but how about a Cat phone? Should be able to get the S41 or S60 for around $525-550ish:

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01JO9ZF3Y/

u/machinehead933 · 4 pointsr/Android

I tried posting on /r/pickanandroidforme but didn't get any responses.

I don't particularly need a new phone, but I've got a bonus coming and itching for an upgrade. Thing is, I don't want to drop $500-800 (or more) so I was considering a refurbished 1-2 year old phone.

Is it worth spending $250-300 on something like a Pixel 2, or an Essential. Other options I might consider?

Again I'm not looking for a night-and-day upgrade from the S7. Just a little bump to keep me current(ish). In the US, on T-Mobile.

If you really are a casual user, there's a phone that's even lower in price than those that I think would be perfect for you! Go take at look at the Moto E4 Plus (also called Moto E Plus 4th Gen)

Moto E Plus (4th Generation) - 32 GB - Unlocked (AT&T/Sprint/T-Mobile/Verizon) - Iron Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072ZS82JD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_YyKeAbAEH8SBQ

It's got an older Qualcomm 4xx series SOC (which is still great for light users), but where this phone shines is in it's ability to be used on all four major carries. Oh, and also the whopping 5000mAh battery!! Light users have reported 3+ days on a single charge, and I think you'd be smart to have some extra money and get this for $169 (32gb version) or $129 with Amazon lockscreen adds.

If this doesn't intrigue you, id say to go with the g5 plus, or maybe check out the Alcatel Idol 5S (it's a gorgeous phone)

on amazon you're looking at the international version H870, it's GSM only and won't work on CDMA like verizon, also idk if it has wireless charging or not (source: https://www.techwalls.com/lg-g6-model-numbers-differences/)

The version at B&H is US997, it works on GSM and CDMA, technically the u.s. cellular version, but looks like that's going to be the u.s. unlocked version. The u.s. unlocked version on Amazon is here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XYRS7CT

I really like the smaller form factor and the $125 price. But, the Jelly is double the thickness and doesn't have many of the UI tweaks that help to overcome the small screen size. Also, it's AT&T/Tmo only. Hopefully this niche will see some other entrants.

BTW, the Jelly Pro is on Amazon if anyone wants to try it out:

u/yoyui · 3 pointsr/pebble

As u/misterburnz pointed out, the Mighty is practically the Pebble Core without the GPS. However I completely forgot about the Unihertz Jelly Pro: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075276XNQ its a tiny android 7.0 phone. thats almost certainly the best option as a Core replacement. It has GPS, calling, a (poor) camera, a headphone jack or bluetooth, and more recent version of Android than any of the watches. it has poor battery life, but sufficient for what you’d use a Core for.

I got mine little more than a month ago from amazon renewed with a 90 day warranty for $230, it's 225 now. It was a 64gb listing but they sent me a 128 in perfect condition. I think the price on the 128 listing was around 300

u/rumourmaker18 · 2 pointsr/AndroidQuestions

At $200 you're not going to get a particularly good camera - that said, it'll still probably be better than your 5 year old phone haha.

My first recommendation is the ZTE Blade V8 Pro:

  • $140
  • 5.5" screen
  • Dual-lens camera that takes decent pictures
  • Negative: Still on Android 6.0, two versions behind; ZTE has also been really slow about security updates, falling 2-3 months behind

Another option is the Moto G5 Plus:

  • $185 at Amazon for the Prime Exclusive version
  • 5.2" screen
  • Decent camera
  • Great build quality, likely to last a long time
  • Fairly timely updates

If you're willing to spend the full $200, though, I recommend the Honor 7X:

  • Gigantic 5.9" screen, great for watching videos
  • Reviews calling it best phone under $200
  • Good build
  • Better camera than almost anything else at this price point (dual lens as well)

    There you go!
u/Tacos90210 · 2 pointsr/Android

Out of your list, get that 2018 Nokia 7 plus.

Just wondering why is the XZs part of the list? The XZ1 fits your budget, has the newer SoC has Oreo, also the Nokia 8 to consider

Last year's mid rangers your considering are good, but last year flagships will age better.

I'd think carefully since your looking for a long-term phone.

u/herbertportillo · 2 pointsr/AndroidQuestions

If no headphone jack is a deal breaker then your options will be more limited. That eliminates the Pixel 2 and 2XL, HTC U11/whatever else HTC releases this year, Essential phone, Razer phone, Moto Z2 Force, and the newest Sony Xperia line.

Flagship phones you could get for close to $600:

Galaxy S8

Sony Xperia XZ Premium

Sony Xperia XZ1

Some midrangers under $500:

Moto X4

Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact

LG G6

This guy would probably be as cheap as you could possibly go. The only issues is that its battery is small, it doesnt have LTE and its extremely limited on storage. Your best bet is taking a look at Used Nexus 5's, A used moto X, a used LG G3 or any other flagship phone from the last two years.

u/skunkdonkey · 2 pointsr/PickAnAndroidForMe

If you can stretch to $400 (may be able to get it cheaper from other retailers, just based on Amazon) then the Pixel 3a would probably be your best bet as it is stock android, and you should be able to disable Assistant via settings. Sadly, it does not have a Micro-SD slot but comes with 64GB of space which should be enough to store a load of music. Also has a really nice camera which is a plus.

https://www.amazon.com/Google-Pixel-Memory-Phone-Unlocked/dp/B07R7DY911/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=pixel%2B3a&qid=1566164532&s=gateway&sr=8-3&th=1

Or, if you can't stretch to that, for $215, you can get the Xiaomi Mi A3 which comes with stock android (so no bloat), 64GB and a micro-sd slot. A decent overall phone, the specs won't blow your socks off but for playing music, calling, texting and navigating should be very fast on this phone (and the pixel)

https://www.amazon.com/Xiaomi-64GB-Triple-Camera-Smartphone/dp/B07VD3JH2C/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=xiaomi+mi+a3&qid=1566164794&s=gateway&sr=8-2

I have no idea about BLU phones. People that have them tend to be happy with them.

BUT, blu has had privacy issues before. And there was one time when an updated bricked all of the phones of one specific model. (like serously ALL of them)

There is also the Moto G and E phones.

Moto G5 Plus

Moto E4

You need amazon prime to order them but you can subscribe and unsubscribe immediately after ordering so you don't get charged for it.

Edit: you can also get the Moto G5 Plus from motorola's site and also the Moto E

u/stifflippp · 2 pointsr/Android

I bought a Jelly Pro for running with because it was so light. I wanted to use it to play music via bluetooth and also so family members would know where I was.

Unfortunately the GPS is terrible.

My solution was I bought a Garmin GPS running watch. Their LiveTrack feature uses the watch's GPS data (very accurate), passes it to the phone, and uses the phone's mobile data to update the location on a shared map.

You might get random calls or texts from people you don’t know from the previous owner of the number.

Have you decided which sub $200 phone you are going to go with? You might want to look at a used or new Essential Ph-1 Used (Amazon)|Renewed by Amazon. After software updates it’s a pretty good phone from what I hear. Other than that, you may want to look at either new Motorola’s (Amazon) or a used LG G6/G7/V20/V30 or even a used Samsung Galaxy S7 or S8 Used S8(Amazon)|Renewed S8(Amazon).

u/Jiggajonson · 2 pointsr/Nexus6P

No idea, I bought hers from Swappa. New, as a resale. https://swappa.com/mobile/oneplus/phones

It should still be under factory warranty with the warranty beginning once you first activate the phone as long as it's new as a resale. I can't speak to other types of sales, but you can always get one w/ a warranty straight from the oneplus site ofc.

Idk what to say about the sale through amazon, Ebay offers pretty good protection for buyers through paypal. shrug

gl with your search, for reference my mom is running on the Oneplus 5t.

When it came time to get my mom something I decided on the oneplus because of the price and because of this review specifically https://youtu.be/5_5zZnuB71w

Edit: i didnt realize they had some circle jerk bullshit going on with Tmobile, idk what that's about, but if I were u with that budget I'd snag the 5t off amazon and get the $60 protection plan https://www.amazon.com/OnePlus-5T-A5010-64GB-International/dp/B0787NNSK9?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_14725774011

I am looking for a new cheap phone myself. I came across the Umidigi F1 which might be up your alley as it boasts a huge battery, is pretty fast, and expandable memory va sdcard.

Ranch Road boots. At first I was not sure about the crepe sole. But, they are super comfortable, like sneakers. Maybe not the most heavy duty boots but for general use I like them.

AOTD I have this phone but it is too small. I hoped to use it for travelling but I can't use the touch screen even with a stylus pen. In the meantime, I continue with my large Samsung.

u/CouncilOfFriends · 2 pointsr/AndroidQuestions

Runner up to the Z Play for battery life is the Sony Xperia XZ1. I actually just ordered it on Amazon for ~$490 which isn't bad. I pretty reliably upgrade to not-new Xperia phones, with a Z5 compact now and Z3 compact before it.

There is this. Its the Moto X though. $230 on ebay. $250 on Amazon. Its also a Global Phone, so it will work on any service that is not Sprint. And if your into customization and all that, the bootloader basically comes unlocked.

I don't think there is anything out there that would be nearly that small. The closest thing would be to use something like a tiny android phone (eg, https://www.amazon.com/Unihertz-Smallest-Smartphone-Android-Unlocked/dp/B075276XNQ).

Also, you reminding me of this made me lookup the kickstarter page. Now I remember how awesome the PT2 was going to be. Its sad that noone picked that up to build it.

I got mine from this seller on Amazon. Works perfectly fine https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B079C1K282?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title. The eBay sellers are less expensive, but that might come with more problems after buying it. I have a 90 day return policy on mine.

Pixel 3a is likely your best bet, the only obvious downside is that it's smaller than Nexus 6. Swappa has new or mint quality Pixel 3a XL's closer to your price range than ones new in stores.

As for the leasing of my phone... I got it as part of the free sprint upgrade like 3 or 4 years ago? I shouldnt have to owe anything on that correct?

Yeah you're probably right.

Looking at the UMIDIGI F1 right now but cant seem to find info on how the camera performs compared to the Redmi Note 7(Which you can install gcam on, kinda wanted to do that)

Looks like it has more bands though and a much better battery, not sure the other differences tbh.

u/jimberkas · 1 pointr/chinaphones

the F1 is actually deal of the day on Amazon right now. Its $187 for the black or red version. Great deal! Only good for 5 more hours...

Check out the Jelly Pro. It’s a mini phone running full Android and costs $125. I bought it mostly for the novelty. It’s quite tiny and can be fun to play with!

Depends on the phone and seller. Sometimes you get only amazon's return policy (or the seller's), sometimes you get manufacturer warranty.

For example: www.amazon.com/LG-G4-Unlocked-Leather-Warranty/dp/B01774WPQ8/ref=sr_1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1457565177

u/wwe9112 · 1 pointr/lgg4

Does it matter what varient the phone is though? Here is the one for sale on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/LG-G4-Unlocked-Leather-Warranty/dp/B01774WPQ8/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1458967317&sr=1-1&keywords=lg+g4 (not sure if that is aloud). But nonetheless, I am unsure what version of phone that is, and also what version of android it is. But as you said, that can be downgraded.

u/Trent_Boyett · 1 pointr/audiobooks

Find a small and cheap android phone. I use this one:

https://www.samsung.com/uk/smartphones/galaxy-pocket-neo-s5310/

It's quite old now though, there's probably some pretty good newer models in the same size range. ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075276XNQ/ref=dp_cerb_2 )

It's a pretty perfect solution for me for running and cycling. Even without a SIM card, it can still download GPS maps over wifi and dial 911 in case of an emergency, so I can leave my real phone at home. It's also got bluetooth, so i can pair it up with one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Bluetooth-Headphones-Microphone-Invisible/dp/B075SZMP2N/

The app i use for it responds to the click of the button on the earpeice, so once I've started a book, I never really need to touch the screen of the player. Right now, I'd just need to pick my earbud up off it's charger, long click it once to turn it on, it pairs automatically, then a short click to start playback. The only time I take the phone out of my jacket pocket is to charge it or to choose the next book.

I didn't see you list a price in your post but the 5t (the 6 is newest and the 6t has been leaked, t is like Apples s version). 5t with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage is about $550 or so USD.

Hey there,

I've got a non-Samsung, android phone (Razer Phone 1) but am using the Gear S3 Frontier watch. Since I've updated my phone to Pie, the Gear S3 refuses other Bluetooth devices to connect to the phone if it was connected before itself.

An example is when I get into my car, my phone cannot make calls through the car speakers, it sets the call to 'handset mode'.

I love the watch, it was working before the Pie update, but now in order for me to do anything I need to disable Bluetooth on the watch before connecting a headset, my car, or really anything else. It's gotten to the point where I'm about to get rid of the watch entirely.

u/ilubandroid · 1 pointr/EmulationOnAndroid

A lot of midranger with Snapdragon 625 can pretty much handle everything from N64/PS1/Dreamcast/DS. PSP is dependent on the game whether it runs full speed or not. Any of these phones should play everything except Gamecube emulation.

Where are you seeing the LG G6 on Amazon for $460? when I look at it via the below link the new price from Amazon is $650 plus tax. The only ones I see cheaper are from third party sellers with no warranty.

If it needs to be off Amazon, the Moto G5 Plus is probably your best bet. It's an excellent phone for the money and you can get the 64GB model for $209 right now. Note that you need to be a prime member to buy it at that price.

u/Kafke · 1 pointr/Android

So I might be finally getting my first smartphone (yeah, I know), through the lifeline program with Tag Mobile. From the looks of it, they'll likely send me a Blu Dash Jr D141w which is obviously garbage. But hey, free. Instead, I'd like to buy a cheap (less than or around $100 or so) unlocked phone to pop the sim into instead.

I've been considering a higher-end Blu phone, like the Energy X 2 or the Studio Selfie 2. Am I missing something completely obvious, given my lack of experience with smart phones in general?

My main concerns are battery life, having the thing not lag/be slow, and being able to stay updated for security updates and to not get left behind on the OS updates (my old ipod touch is on a super old version and can't download apps anymore, I'd like to avoid something like that).

Thoughts?

Soo, I think my account is either banned or under review, I'm not sure yet.

I ordered the Huawei P20 Pro via this seller: https://www.amazon.co.jp/Huawei-4GLTE-128GB-Unlocked-ONLY/dp/B07BHDMHR1/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1526093257&sr=8-5&keywords=huawei+p20+pro

Half an hour later I got an Email from Amazon stating, that the credit card I used for the order was not approved. However, I used that card many times before. I then used another credit card. The next morning, I got an email (most likely a scam email), saying this:

Your Amazon.co.jp order cannot be shipped

Then I tried to log in to my account and got the error message.

My questions are: How could my account have been compromised? I never click on links in scam Emails, and I always directly go to any website to log in. Clearly this scam email was no coincidence since they sent it to me about 6 hours after I placed my order.

Where can I contact amazon the easiest about this?

Thanks in advance.

Something like this?

Seriously though, save your money and wait until the Pixel Watches come out. I think an Android Watch would be the easiest way to manage music via Bluetooth on a small device (that's also likely waterproof).

u/he_could_get_it · 1 pointr/Android

Is the LG G6+ still worth $470? I don't know if there are more than one version of this, but the one I am looking at is 128 GB, 4 gigs of ram, Snapdragon 821 2.5 ghz+1.6 ghz quadcore (I am not sure what that means with two numbers listed like that).

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0791RW7CD

I currently have a Moto G5+, like this one, but I have the 64 GB version ($250 unlocked phone): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0785NN142/

I'm confused on the bits about the processor, lol. The MG5+ has the snapdragon 625, 2.0 ghz octocore and 650 mhz adreno 506 gpu.

Is it enough of an improvement? Is it an improvement at all?

It is for the US, and is sold by Mobiles International LLC (which I believe is an authorised seller).

Comes with no warranty though, and is not compatible with CDMA carriers like Verizon or Sprint (GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile are okay). Might be worth noting.

considering your max price point i recomend https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0787NNSK9/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A291FUB4CUCNQ4&psc=1 but if you want to watch netflix or stream to a smart tv i recommend against it, this is the best one in this price range but... it has its issues no hd stream from netflix or cast or amazon prime etc. If u feel u want something like this consider what i said. but u have no operator plan. Can u tell me what carrier u considering?

u/bleed_air_blimp · 1 pointr/Android

That's the international version (H870). The modem is not equipped for the most popular LTE bands used in the US, which means your data speeds on most carriers will be forced into 3g. Also, because of weird LG shenanigans, the international version does not come with wireless charging.

The unlocked US version (US997) that has all the necessary LTE bands, and the wireless charging, is ~$550 on Amazon.

P.S.: The subsidized US Cellular version has the same US997 designation as the unlocked US version I linked above, but it is carrier-locked and the IMEI numbers are not eligible for official bootloader unlocks from the LG website. So be careful when buying.

u/retnuh730 · 1 pointr/Sprint

They asked me for both throughout the chat. I got it brand new, it was officially released today.

There's another post on the front page of this sub with Sprint offering the same phone only carrier locked.

Lol, this phone has equivalent specs to an iPhone for half the price. In fact some would argue that the one plus 5t has superior specs to the iPhone.

There is no argument to buy the iPhone other than as a status symbol.
