My wife is the gaming equivalent of a 10 year old, and we've enjoyed playing Little Big Planet 2 & Carting. We also got the genesis collection for nostalgia, and we've enjoyed the simple multiplayer options.

I don't know which ones you haven't played, so I'm just going to list whichever ones come to mind.

Infamous collection

Tomb Raider

GTA IV Complete Edition

Assassins Creed 1

Assassins Creed: Ezio Trilogy

Far Cry 3

Skyrim

Hitman: Absolution

Uncharted 1 & 2 pack

Uncharted 3

ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection

Heavy Rain

Though there are probably many more that I'm forgetting.

Edit: Had to remove Assassins Creed 3 because the price went up to $34.77.

A bit of a novel, but I hope you find this helpful, OP.

First, to comment on what happened on your call with Microsoft: maybe it's possible you just got one of the really bad reps? But then again, they got a supervisor involved and they still wouldn't just fix the situation for you? Especially seeing as you hadn't even used your subscription... that is pretty ridiculous. Well, I'm confident that you'll find the PlayStation experience an enjoyable one.

-----

Honestly, this is probably the best time to try out a PS3. We're closing out on this generation of consoles and some of the best games of the last few years have been PlayStation exclusives. Especially if you've been using an Xbox 360 this whole time, you're about ready to meet a whole new world of incredible titles.

Quick edit: Just wanted to clarify... I'm including links to Amazon just as an easy way for you to learn more about individual titles. But just as /u/undeadwolfy mentioned:

>You can buy most of these pre-owned at a decent price. Some are digital so they're not much cheaper but still great.

So first and foremost, I highly recommend anything by Naughty Dog -- they are arguably the best developer in the entire industry right now. They released four titles on the PS3: Uncharted 1, 2 & 3 (each game is a must-play), and the absolute masterpiece that is The Last of Us. You've probably heard plenty of praise for The Last of Us (and it is well deserved), but I would recommend saving the best for last. It's such an awesome game that, after completing it, nothing else I played interested me anymore. It took like a month to get back into the gaming groove, so I'd save that 'til after you beat the Uncharted trilogy. It's that good.

Aside from that, there are some other great titles I'd highly recommend. I don't know what kind of games you're into, so I'll just list all those that I've liked, personally:

  • Metal Gear Solid saga (MGS 1-3 were released on PS1 & PS2, but they've since been rereleased in HD for PS3, alongside MGS 4).

  • Heavy Rain (A very story driven game, where the choices you make can drastically affect the storyline. Plus... boobs.)

  • Beyond Two Souls (Brand new, just came out. Similar to Heavy Rain in its execution -- story driven.)

  • God of War trilogy (Awesome, mature platformer. The first two games were for PS2, but were released in HD alongside GOW3 on PS3. Also has boobs.)

  • Little Big Planet 1 or 2 (A great couch multiplayer side scroller. Lots of fun, more of a kids game... or a game to play with drunk adults.)

  • Infamous 1 & 2 (An interactive comic book. An "open world" platformer that lets you shoot lightning from your hands. Has a cool element where you can choose to be good or evil.)

Not to mention plenty of other great exclusives (Rachet & Clank series, Resistance trilogy, Valkyria Chronicles and more) and the tons of PS1 and PS2 games on the PlayStation Store for cheap, playable on your PS3 if you want to go old school. (Not to mention the many PS2 games being rereleased for PS3 in HD glory... I'd recommend Shadow of the Colossus, which happens to be free for PlayStation Plus members this month... hint hint.) Of course, all the multiplatform games are also here (Battlefield, Bioshock, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, etc.).

  • Oh, did I mention the PS3's online multiplayer is free?
  • And if you've got Netflix, you don't need to pay Sony a cent to watch it (unlike a certain other console's "Gold" requirement).

That said, however, if you really want to jump in the game, PlayStation Plus is worth every penny -- a ton of free games each month (and we're talking major titles, in addition to a handful of indies), plus a large variety of other system-enhancing features and discounts. And if you're looking at getting a PS4, getting PS+ is a no-brainer. For one, it is required for online multiplayer on the PS4 (no such requirement on the PS3, but hey, they've got to make their money somehow). But what's awesome is that one PS+ account will work across both the PS3 & PS4, and enable you to get free games for each console for as long as you are a subscriber, with free games on the PS4 appearing on day one.

Welcome to the new age. Now cue up some Imagine Dragons and get ready for a freaking awesome experience. We're glad to have you.

No early access; probably going to receive it a couple days after it comes out as usual with Newegg.

Amazon's $30 after $10 Amazon credit, early access, and release-day shipping is a better deal.

u/Barnolde 路 9 pointsr/PS3

You could get MGS Collection and Uncharted 3 for about the price of BF3 Premium.

A quick Amazon search reveals:

UC3 is $33 new, $25 used:

MGS is $30 new, $29 used:
http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B0050SX97I/

so I say go with that!

u/firexq 路 9 pointsr/PS4

The reason behind the glut of remasters is how cheap and easy they are. Fetch the uncompressed assets, change the rendering resolution, up the framerate, fiddle with some fancy shaders, do a little QA, then kick it out the door. I bet some companies are literally assigning interns to these projects. (I'm looking at you, Konami)

The assets for God of War 3 are still presentable today, so a GW3 remaster is cheap and easy. It takes a lot more work to make God of War 1 look worthy of a current-gen platform. That amount of work is comparable to the art budget for a brand new game... so not worth it from a business standpoint.

It's a paradox... the games that need remastering least, get remastered.

Not sure how it still being micro mini usb is that relevant in all honesty, it's just a connection type used for charging/pairing (and a charging dock is like $20).

Best Buy's pricing for those is pretty wacky imo anyway, you can get a single controller on Amazon for $26.

You have a lot of options! I'll try to help you through all of them.

The only good Crash Bandicoot games are the first three (and the racing game) and they were only released on the original PlayStation and the PS3's online store. There is no Crash Bandicoot collection, unfortunately. You can either buy the three original discs or you can download them on the Playstation Store for 6 bucks each and play them on a PS3.

If you buy the original discs you'll need an original PlayStation, a PSOne (which is just a tiny original PlayStation), a PS2, or a PS3. All of those consoles can play PS1 games. A PS2 isn't much more expensive than a PS1 and will allow her to play PS2 games as well. The PS3 can play all PS1 games and all PS3 games, plus it has much sharper video. If she has a PS3 she can also download more PS1 games at any time, and the downloadable games are much cheaper than buying the original discs.

A PS2 or PS3 is probably the best bet, depending on your budget and what sort of games she enjoys.

There are no Sega consoles with Crash Bandicoot games on them. Not unless we count emulators. So we can rule those out.

If you want to play Sonic the Hedgehog games, you have lots of options. The most popular Sonic games were on the Sega Genesis, but they've been re-released so many times that you can get them for almost every console, computer, or phone out there. There are no Sonic games on the PS1, but there are collections of the old Sonic games on both the PS2 and PS3.

If you buy a PS2, you'll want to get the Sonic Mega Collection Plus. It's a nice collection of the best old Sonic games and usually goes for less than $10 used.

If you buy a PS3, you can get a huge collection of 40+ Sega games called Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for very cheap. It costs less than $15 at most stores and it includes most of the best Sega Genesis games ever made, including the Sonic titles. You can probably find it for even cheaper at your local used game store.

If you don't mind spending a little more on the console, a used PS3 is probably the best bet. The console is more expensive than a PS2 or Genesis, but it can play Crash and Sonic, the Crash and Sonic games themselves will be much cheaper, it will look better on a modern TV than the old consoles do, it's extremely easy to use, and you'll be able to play more recent games on it. It also doubles as a blu-ray player and has lots of TV apps like Netflix and Hulu.

Now moving on to handheld options... things get a little more complicated.

There is no handheld system that has official support for the good Crash and Sonic games. If you want these games on a handheld device, you need to be willing to download the old games and do a little work. I can't tell you exactly how/where to download old games for this purpose because it's against the rules of most subreddits (and because it's piracy) but it's very easy. Here are your handheld options:

A hacked PSP would be able to play downloaded PS1 games and Sega games, plus a few other consoles. It's cheap and works well, but it takes a little bit of knowledge to put one of those together and use it.

Most Android phones can play most retro games (including Sonic and Crash) by installing an emulator and loading the games onto the phone. This is the easiest portable option. You could buy a bluetooth controller to go with the phone, so you don't have to deal with bad touch-screen controls. If she already has an Android phone this could be a good option. If not, it could be pretty expensive to put together.

There are tons of emulation options that aren't handheld and would allow you to play both Crash and Sonic games, but that's beyond the scope of this post.

Let me know if you have any follow-up questions, or want to know more about a specific game or console.

edit: This post ended up longer than expected! Hopefully this isn't too overwhelming!

Oh man, my heart goes out to you having to move and set everything up all over again. But that will make your cord management easier than trying to tear up your current setup I鈥檇 imagine. I recently did mine with cable zip ties and the occasional twisties from bread bags and whatnot. And used clear tape and white speaker wire for my Atmos height speakers mounted above my TV on the wall, so they almost look professionally done rather than speaker wiring draped everywhere.

I now keep my PSVR in this hard case for $20 that I think is well worth it. And then wrap the cord that goes to the box around the case itself (or detach it entirely and then store it inside the case and plug it back in when I鈥檓 ready to play more VR). Looking forward to the PSVR2 that is rumored to have wireless/ranged options. And then I have this old PS3 Move Charging Base that I tuck away behind my TV stand, so I can charge my two Moves through my big powerstrip. And I also hide my AIM controller underneath the stand, and charge it via my PS4/XB1X/home theater receiver鈥檚 USB port whenever needed. I鈥檓 looking forward to a future where everything charges and connects wirelessly!! Good luck with your move!

If you can afford it, you can get the Ezio Trilogy for a good bundled price. It has 3 great, if not the best, AC games that follow a single badass protagonist. Keep in mind that the new remastered version is coming out soon, although it hasn't been officially announced.

AC1 is the introduction to the game (the one game before the games in this bundle) so you will miss the introduction to the Creed/Modern Day characters. However the game is (to me) a pretty bad way to be introduced to the game, so I think it's better to fall in love with ACII then go back to relive ACI. Just read/watch a video on the modern day story of ACI if you want to have a better understanding of the going-ons in ACII.

Also, I wouldn't recommend Chronicles, they're a spin-off of the original games (Not to diss them though!). But I think AC: China may be available for free with XBone gold this month so maybe you could look for yourself. Hope this helped

if it helps, I have a 20L5 and over 30 consoles and here's what I did.

  • SCART Breakout cable from retrogamingcables.co.uk for the 20L5
  • BKM 129X additional card for your 20L5

The reason for the two is I split everything into 2 categories

  • 1 - RGB SCART into the built-in inputs on the 20L5
  • 2 - Component (YPbPr) into the added 129x card

All RGB SCART consoles are being handled by a 'gscartsw' (scart switcher)
All Component consoles are being handled by a an 'Extron Matrix 300' (multi format switcher) get one cheap on eBay

  • Original Xbox - OEM Component Adapter Xbox HD AV Pack Do NOT get 3rd party cables, you will easily see how bad they suck with a monitor such as a 20L5
  • PS1 - RGB SCART Cable (ordered from a polish modder on eBay but retrogamingcables in the UK or wookiewin in US are good too)
  • PS2 - OEM Component Cables these NOTE because the 'gscartsw' can't handle sync on green I elected to go with component instead. Again stick to OEM for same reasons OR HDRetrovision's cable. They are fairly new.
  • Sega Genesis - RGB SCART - get the right model (1 or 2) from retrogamingcables or wookiewin
  • SNES - RGB SCART - same place as Genesis - try and get a "1CHIP" version of the console OR get a SNES Jr/Mini but this one will need an RGB mod as it doesn't do it natively but with this chip here it will look incredible. This is what I have and HIGHLY recommend it.

When you're ready to handle the audio now let me know and will tackle that!

**edit forgot to add, some sellers market PS1/PS2 RGB SCART Cables as the same or interchangeable but they are not. They will either have no resistors, 400ohm resistors or 1000ohm resistors. The PS1 needs resistance but the PS2 does not since it is built into the console. So:

  • PS1 requires 400ohm resistors in the SCART Cable
  • PS2 requires NO resistors (built in console)
  • Some makers make a 1000ohm SCART cable that can be used for BOTH

Check the descriptions of the cables for this info or ask the maker if it's not printed.

There really isn't anywhere to buy it online. You can order it on Amazon but it'll cost you and is not worth it. The PC version has all sorts of issues apparently.

That is the best way to enjoy scary games, I commend you for going the extra step. I try to do it that way myself, but I'd be lying if I didn't confess to occasionally turning on the lights when I get scared.

If you still want to play the second and third games, now's actually a good time to get around to them since they're being re-released in HD. This is one of those occasions where I have to keep myself from re-buying a game I've played over and over in order to enjoy other games I've already purchased. I never said I was an expert, this is general knowledge everyone learns from the decades of using devices with rechargeable batteries in them in the past. My comment was that buying used has potential for a person paying even more money when they inevitably have to replace the battery inside sooner rather than later all to save $5 maybe $10. Right now you can buy a new Move from Amazon for $25.

If the battery is bad they will replace the unit with no charge to you.

In the US, there's the Ezio collection with 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations for ~$20 here. 1 and 3 aren't as good, though 3 may be worth renting or buying used.

u/bongo1138 路 3 pointsr/PS3

I'd stay away from Prince of Persia (2008, or whatever). It just didn't feel the same and it's not in the same universe as Forgotten Sands/Sands of Time/etc.

As for the AC series, stick to the Ezio trilogy (which you can buy for less than $30). AC1 isn't bad, but 2 is such a huge leap forward that I simply can't recommend the first one. 3 had it's moments, but overall fell short of the greatness of 2.

http://www.amazon.com/Street-Fighter-FightStick-Tournament-Playstation-3/dp/B001M25AY6/ref=pd_sim_vg_5

You definetly do not need an arcade stick to play fighting games, it's simply a matter of preference, the only reason the stick is preferred by the fighting game players is that they grew up playing in arcades with the stick as the preffered controller. Ever since SF4 came out there has been a new generation of pad players that are doing pretty well :(Wolfkrone, top seed for evo points, Vangief, both of these guys are pad players and placed top 8 SSF4 in EVO). And for Marvel you really dont need a stick at all as execution is extremely easy. So if you aren't commited to paying 100+ USD for a quality stick, might as well play with your pad, as the stick wont make you a better player instantly, and sticks have a learning curve too. Can you mention the games that you want to play and how much money are you willing to shell out for a stick?

u/ImpulseControl 路 2 pointsr/gaming

They do make a top of the line fight stick for PS3 and XBox...for 250 bux. Worth. Every. Penny.

Edit: It looks like they jacked up the price on this model since I bought mine for ~150. They are selling the new Tekken model of this same fight stick for 150 as well.

I'm assuming you have a TE 1 stick that was released in 2009? (http://www.amazon.com/Fighter-FightStick-Tournament-Edition-Playstation-3/dp/B001M25AY6) I used to have this problem until I bought a USB card and attached it to my computer

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008IPXOWU?psc=1 (This card can read USB 1.1 - 3.0)

I think the stick is a USB 1.0, and my computer doesn't read USBs lower than 3.0, and cards like these did the job!

Good luck man!

I own the Hori arcade stick. I really like it and it works very well.

I also own a PS3 mad cats TE stick (mine has different art than this, best match I could find), I really like that one too. I use this usb stick to make mine work with my switch

I find that these sticks each have their own pros and cons.

|Hori|MadCatz|
|:-|:-|
|Soft plastic round buttons. Very Good|Hard plastic sawa style buttons. Perfect|
|Very hard clicking, very mechanical feeling stick. I love it. Just slightly better for change/charge moves|Softer smother stick, I also love it.|
|No lock feature, however the home button is all the way on the side so it is hard to press by accident. However I do hit start by mistake sometimes when going for a L1|Has a lock out switch, never accidentally press start or the system menu button again! Love It|
|Light weight and easy to put in your lap. Great|Heaviest stick I have every held. Still good for the lap, but I prefer a table. Also Great, but a little different|
|USB cord stores in controller. Feels Cheap|USB cord stores in controller. Feels Great|
|It's RED!|Lots of artwork options available. Pick a style that suits you!|
|Works on Switch and PC (x-input)! Change between the two with a hidden switch on the arcade stick! Wonderful Feature|Works on PS3 (and ps4 games with legacy support). Works on PC only if you set up a custom controller profile in steam. Works with switch when using the usb stick linked above. Not perfect but it will work|
|$150 New and feels like a $150 in your hands|$300-400 new and feels like $300-400 in your hands; but you won't get yours new. I don't think they are made anymore. Hunt for one on amazon or ebay, condition may very. I linked to a OEM/stock one that was going for 280 when in stock.|

I use the MadCatz on my pc as my main steam controller. I use the Hori on my switch. The adapter is used for when a friend comes over. I would never take the MadCatz stick to a competition. It only takes one drunk dudebro spilling a beer to ruin my irreplaceable controller.

If I were you, I would pick the Hori controller for simplicity and price. However if you want to try the MadCatz I found this for about 85-100, it may pair well with the use this usb stick for a very good $120-130 price tag. However the $85 sticks are stated to be in what amazon calls "acceptable condition" and may be missing packaging, manuals, or other pieces.

I'm not entirely sure, but if you use the Remote Play option with a PSP the system goes into some sort of sleep mode that might allow you to charge your controllers.

That being said, it's worth it to pick this up. It's fantastic and like all Sony hardware very well built. http://www.amazon.com/PS3-DualShock-3-Charging-Station-Playstation/dp/B004T7IRS2/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1312403018&sr=8-10

No, it is for the most part not present. The game doesn't have auto aim in it, however blind firing will occasionally do so if a enemy is close enough, but not all the time. Other games I can't speak for as I don't which shooters you're specifically wanting to play.

As for the controller question. They will only charge while the console is on. To charge controllers while the console is off you will need a charging station like in the link provided. https://www.amazon.com/PS3-DualShock-3-Charging-Station-Playstation/dp/B004T7IRS2

u/aplenail 路 2 pointsr/PS3

Nice set up! You can also add the official sound bar and the absolutely terribly designed official controller charging station.*

*Can fail in three ways: lose/break the charging clips, lose the adapter cable, lose the power cable. What was Sony thinking?

u/ostentatiousox 路 2 pointsr/PS3

Just in case you were ever interested, buying this charging station was the best thing ever. When I'm done playing, I just set the controller back on the charger and when I'm ready to play I have a fully charged controller. I highly, highly recommend this charger, but 40 bucks is kind of deep. It was on sale for 25 at Christmas and I'd recommend buying it at that price.

They call them "HD remakes" even though they look mostly the same. I'm afraid that this is the alternative to backwards compatibility, rebuying remakes instead of allowing us to play what we bought.

But then you run into problems like this, http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Hill-HD-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B0050SXAIG . It has 2 out of the 9 games, and they look marginally better, but still carries a solid price tag.

some of those Walmart bundle choices are good, like Batman Arkham Asylum and Bioshock. but I agree, none of them are the big games for the PS3. most of those are the exclusives, which you can find in bundles too. like Resistance and Uncharted.

personally I would not get too hung up on bundles. many older titles are very affordable, even new, and certainly used. u/kaztrator 路 2 pointsr/PS3

First thing's first. Pay $50 for PS Plus. You'll get free games every month. This month, you'll be getting Deadly Premonition and the Hitman HD Collection, which I've heard great things about despite not playing it myself.

The Last of Us and the Uncharted Trilogy are the best games hands-down. Those are probably the best games I have ever played so I implore you to play through those first.

You should definitely check out Assassin's Creed: Ezio Trilogy. You should probably play the original Assassin's Creed first, because it will make your enjoyment of Revelations that much sweeter, but the Ezio Trilogy is definitely the best part of the series.

Infamous is excellent. I just finished the game for the first time and will be playing through it again. I haven't played Infamous 2, but I've heard good things about it as well.

Demon's Souls is another fantastic game. It's pretty difficult though. I think it's best played as a buffer while you're playing another game. Like, if you're sick of running around Rome for a while in Assassin's Creed, take a break, do some of your Demon's Souls levels, and go back to AC. It definitely requires some patience.

The Batman Arkham Trilogy is also great. Some people have found a habit of shitting on Origins, but it's still a great game despite not being the best of the 3. You could play it first and then experience the others in both quality and chronological order.

The whole Grand Theft Auto series is fantastic. I've played them all and enjoyed every single one. It's probably my favorite series of all time. You can find GTA3, GTA4, GTA5, Vice City, Liberty City Stories & Vice City Stories all on PSN. San Andreas was removed because a remastered release is coming out soon. I promise, you'll enjoy them all!

I bought the Prince of Persia HD Trilogy and Splinter Cell HD Trilogy online and don't regret them. They are originally PS2 games, but the remakes are fantastic. They're pretty cheap so I recommend playing through them if you want. Ico HD, Shadow of the Colossus HD are also some really good remakes.

I did not personally enjoy Watch Dogs, Deadpool or Dante's Inferno. I really wouldn't recommend them. I've played most WWE games, and while I haven't tried WWE 2K15, most people agree that it's inferior to 2K14, since it's just a butchered version of the PS4 release. If you enjoy it good for you, but I won't be playing it until I get a PS4.

Let's see, what else... I've never played the Metal Gear Solid games, but I've always wanted to. Those sound like great games if you have the time. God of War Saga is a collection of 5 great games. I haven't played the 6th installment yet, but it's on my list as well.

Red Dead Redemption and LA Noire are some great games to check out as well. I also personally enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Man, Prince of Persia and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, but they've all gotten lukewarm reviews. It really depends on taste.

u/Sageypie 路 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Okay, first props to you for using the Beatles. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is an awesome ass song.

Okay.

  1. A PS3.
  2. This originally was for me. Now that's changed. When it was for me it was because I always wanted a PS3 and this one just drew me in. I never played the GoW series but it captivated me. Something powerful in the commercial for the last one (Kratos and his daughter) made me cry so hard. That pure raw emotion. I needed this. It would also be a great way to break away from using /u/DMKrodan 's PS3 all the time haha... Now, it's that I want it FOR him. His PS3 is degrading. It's falling apart slowly and that thing is his baby. He's had it for since 2009. He loves that thing almost as much as he loves me haha. I would gladly give this to him if it was ever gifted to me and just take his after he transfered all his data.
  3. If this was never gifted to me, I would be okay I suppose. I plan on getting him something like this or the PS4 when I have the ability too. He deserves everything. This man has given so much to people to the point of being homeless for them MORE than once. He is an amazing man, we may not have much but he damn sure makes sure to let someone he cares to the point of his pockets being bare. And most people (none here) treat him like Mr. Cellophane.. Like he's not even there. One day even if I do not win this contest, I will find a way to do something amazing for him. Because he deserves to pluck a Diamond from the sky to keep close to his heart.

And now I leave you all with a thank you.

Thank you Ryan for this contest.

If you want PS+ with it, absolutely. And you should, since PS+ rotates through some of the best games in the PS3's huge back catalog and offers them for free. I've also found it great for games I wouldn't normally risk the money on that I've turned out to love.

Since you get more out of PS+ the longer you have it, if it interests you, now is the time to get it. The free games you will get between now and any possible PS3 price drop will more than cover the difference.

If you're not interested in PS+, then it comes down to whether it's worth it to you personally to wait for a few months to save $50-100.

I would suggest one of these models, depending on which games interest you. Having a 500gb drive is a big advantage to these models, and the other bundle game (Uncharted 3) has a smaller hard drive... and the game is free on PS+ right now.

I have a Turlte Beach Earforce P11 I use, tho for it to work on both you need an adapter. They make one called the DAC1 ( digital to analog converter ). I have big ears and I can use them for about an hour before I have to take a rest from them.

Though the link I provided for the P11 doesn't offer any new, the adapter is designed to work with various models of headsets. Not the best option maybe, but it will work for both consoles.

$30 is expensive for this title. Here it is for $10 + expensive shipping at Square's store. It is $20 on Amazon now. and about the same price at Walmart.

u/Sipricy 路 2 pointsr/KingdomHearts

There have been a lot of Kingdom Hearts games that have come out since Kingdom Hearts 1 came out in 2002. There's been the first game, Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 2, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Kingdom Hearts Coded, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A fragmentary passage.

The collections are the newest versions of these games. Kingdom Hearts 1.5, Kingdom Hearts 2.5, and Kingdom Hearts 2.8 are the collections. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 is just both of those two collections on a single disc, but made for the PS4 rather than the PS3.

The cheapest way to get these games is either to get 1.5+2.5 and 2.8 used, or to buy The Story So Far, which is a digital version of all of the collections, which include all of the games so far. It's only $40, and you get six games and three movies (358/2 Days, Re:Coded, and X: Back Cover are all movies). All in One is exactly like The Story So Far, but also includes Kingdom Hearts 3. It's $100, so you don't save any money by getting All in One rather than The Story So Far.

My whole point being that you shouldn't pay more than $40 USD for all of the games prior to Kingdom Hearts 3.

I just got a pair of these after my turtle beach headphones broke. http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Headphone-Playstation-4-3/dp/B00MNP9PD8?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

They do work pretty good, but I feel like the comfort on the turtle beach was nicer over long periods of time playing. The TB also allow you to adjust the volume of chat and game volume separately. The Gold can do this sorta, but instead of game and chat being separate it just lowers the game or chat to raise the other, which is still nice. I also like that the mic on the Golds is hidden and doesn't get in the way when im drinking or eating something.

Good quality (had mine awhile now with zero issues and I use it for both my Xbox One and PS4) Works wirelessly on PS4 (have to plug it in via cable to the controller on the Xbox) and works for both voice chat on PC and PC4.

I tried several controllers, and here鈥檚 what I went with.

My son and I really preferred our PS4 Dual Shock controllers with the Model 3, but we didn鈥檛 want to commit them to the car because we wanted to keep them for our PS4 Pro.

We also tried the Logitech F310, and they felt too flimsy.

We settled on a set of Xbox knock offs from Amazon called EasySMX

They feel decent, work well with Cuphead and the racing game, and they fit well in the armrest.

I'm in the market for a good multipurpose headset for my PS4 and PC. Originally my budget was going to be <$100 but when browsing Amazon these piqued my interest.

Turtle Beach Stealth 500P

Fully wireless, 15 hours of play time, 7.1 DTS surround, look comfy as can be. However, it's advertised as a PS4, PS3, and Mobile compatible headset. Down the page there is a product matrix, where it claims that the headset is NOT PC compatible.

The previous generation (if you will) headset, the TB Ear Force Stealth 400, boasts a similar feature set sans 7.1 surround. It is also listed as not PC compatible, however in the review section (and Q&A) people are reporting that it is in fact PC compatible.

Does anyone have experience with the Stealth 400? I would appreciate some input. The 500P looks like a great value for the dollar (especially considering the Xbox One equivalent Stealth 500X is priced $100 more) and I'm tempted to preorder.

I personally like this one. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B06XB6FRPR/ref=twister_B07FZ1X6CS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Admittedly the PowerA is a bit better with dead zones, but most of what I play isn't that precision-oriented. I think this one is a little more comfortable to hold than the PowerA and the turbo function is nice if you want it. It's wired, but the wire is generously long, and it has force feedback unlike the wired PowerA.

Not to knock the PowerA pad either - it's a genuinely good controller. I see it recommended a lot, though, so I wanted to offer up another suggestion as well. You'd do just fine with either one, or maybe get one of each.

If your TV does indeed do 1024x768 then you should be fine with it.

You should be fine at standard-defintion resolutions (480 vertical pixels) using the yellow (composite) cable that comes with the console, but a component cable should give a sharper picture even on standard-definition (depending on your TV and the quality of your eyesight) and will take full advantage of the resolution of a 1024x768 telly.

  • Component cable for Xbox 360
  • Component cable for PS3

If you're buying a new telly soon, then maybe see if you can get away with the yellow composite cable for a while, because any new TV will have an HDMI cable, and that will give a better picture (depending the TV and your eyesight) than component. The HDMI cable will be a bit cheaper, and you'd always choose it over component.

I'm not aware of any gameplay differences between the two consoles. Someone said in another post that the E3 demo units were 360s, so that was what the early development must have been done on, so the title must be better and more "native" to that console. Personally, I don't think it makes any difference.

I have a PS3 (and I actually bought a new PS3 for Rocksmith) and I think it's a better console, from a hardware point of view - I've had my PS3 for over 4 years and it's still going great. Early models of the 360 had a terrible failure rate and I still think of it as a "cheap" console; however the latest slim models look like they've fixed these problems, and they're a fair chunk cheaper than the PS3. I kinda feel like the 360 is less cost, if you just want to see if you get along with Rocksmith.

My copy of Rocksmith hasn't arrived yet, but it's a bargain compared to the cost of guitar lessons. If it works even reasonably well then buying a console to play it on is still a bargain compared to, say, 10 or 20 hours of lessons.
u/tolbot 路 1 pointr/letsplay

The HDCP is hard coded into the HDMI output and the only way to assuredly record from the PS3 that I've seen is using a PS3 component cable. You can probably find off brands that will work just fine.

Unfortunately for you, you have the Elgato HD60 which only has HDMI inputs. A casual search yields nothing for me as far as converting Component to HDMI, and I doubt a reliable one exists that is inexpensive. The standard Elgato HD comes with a Component input cable for use with older consoles.

u/Zapf 路 1 pointr/gaming

Yes, 5 prong (2 audio, 3 video) is called component. You can get component cables for everything ps2 and beyond, and you can get s-video for everything snes and beyond. The gamecube component cable is ridiculously expensive and requires an earlier model gamecube, but the s-video cable is easy to get (ebay and amazon have them; just remember that snes, n64 and gamecube use the same cable). Ps2 component is easy to get - amazon has the official one for 18ish and monoprice has theirs for 4.50

u/YabukiJoe 路 1 pointr/letsplay

How does this one look? Would you recommend this one in particular? It also says it'd work on the PS2.

u/FreeCopy 路 1 pointr/PS3

The PS3 should hook up to the TV just fine. 720p/1080i will look good on a TV that size. The TV looks to be 4:3 so you should get the bars. I think the PS3 comes with standard RCA cables so you might need to purchase some component cables as well.

I personally have no experience with a PS3 on a 4:3 set but I found this which is interesting and would sway me from going the that route if I could help it. PS3 4:3

See if that's an issue you're willing to deal with assuming this TV has that problem.

I've linked them to Amazon so that you can see they're all under $10 including shipping.

Shaun White Snowboarding - $4+ Open world snowboarding game. Pretty fun if you have the itch to ski or snowboard and winter is not here yet. Fun to play around the fall when you're really excited to start snowboarding for the season. I know the game isn't all that great, but hey, it's an open world game. You can do whatever.

Mortal Kombat - $10+ - Awesome side by side fighting game. You know it. Fun party game if you have more than 1 controller.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe - $8+ - Mortal Kombat characters vs DC Superheroes. This isn't like regular Mortal Kombat. You can move your character in a circle, instead of just left and right. It looks kind of like summo wrestling, like how the players can circle each other. There are also moments where the map changes, and the characters fall from one map to another, and your characters fight while free falling. It is pretty sick if you're a fan of the Mortal Kombat games.

Battlefield 3 - $6 - A Shooter. Has amazing graphics and sound effects, much better than CoD. Has a lot more weapons and customization. There are vehicles! Jets, helicopters, tanks, jeeps, motorcycles, even buggies with turrets. The maps are huge! Awesome game. I've clocked a lot of hours on PS3 playing this game. Got a few more hours also playing on PC.

That's all I got for now. I'll be back if I can think of more. I don't have a lot of PS3 games, even less when you're looking for $10 or under, but these games are still awesome! They provided many many hours of enjoyment.

Plus you don't want nes controller if you're emulating because you have access to so many consoles and with different controller layouts it's best to get one to suit your needs perfect. Here's a tip from your friendly intermediate wants-to-start-playing-in-tournaments-by-next-year Fighting game player: An Arcade stick won't necessarily make you better, and it isn't necessarily the better option. A lot of people when first entering the Fighting Game community, me included at first, see the pros all playing with arcade sticks and see them dominating in tournaments. Naturally, a lot of people assume that's the way to go and to just ignore controller. However, look at it this way:

The people that dominate in tournaments grew up playing in arcades. They prefer that layout, and thus they use arcade sticks.

It's all a matter of preference. The only thing that an arcade stick will make you better at is "plinking" which is a technique used only in SF4 and SFxTK, and even then it isn't important.

If you think you can learn better on controller, go for it. If you're like me and think an arcade stick is more comfortable, I highly recommend getting either the Hori Fighting Stick Mini 3 or getting a Qanba Q1 (If they ever get restocked)

Both sticks are cheaper than average yet still of good quality. If you're willing to spend that tiny bit more, you could get a Hori fighting Stick V3 for high quality and reliability. A little more from that and you can get MadCatz sticks, which are really good too.

Or, you can take a third option and try out a PDP Fightpad Which, while looking weird, actually work quite well and I have a friend who uses them as his main method of control.

Explore your options! Arcade stick may not be for you, try around and see what you're comfortable with. Just don't be like me and buy a cheap arcade stick... I bought a "Mayflash" stick and it works fine and does the job well, but it's reliability is known to be poor (Mine's lasted longer than two years, which apparently is a miracle) and overall just feel cheap (Which can be kinda annoying/distracting, but you may be able to get over it better than I can)

Hope I helped!

If you have a 360 or PS3 controller lying around give it a try with your example keys there.

This is a dirt cheap stick, but it should be moddable if you want to upgrade buttons or the joystick in your future. http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Arcade-Fighting-Joystick-Playstation-3/dp/B0015PHMFU/ref=sr_1_11?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1376331889&sr=1-11&keywords=fight+stick

Likewise you could always go for the God of War pack if you'd prefer that type of game.

Both are cheaper than the 250gb ones on sale by a considerable amount.

There's a new bundle that comes with UC3 GOTY, a 250GB HDD, and 1 year of PS+ for $270. http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Uncharted-Plus-Bundle-Playstation-3/dp/B00D6LPE2E/

Canon means it's part of the official story.

Non canon would mean it is a side story, could be happening in an alternate universe or timeline while using the same characters to portray the story.

The upcoming $199 PS3 will be good enough to play, there's no real difference in hardware, it's just cheaper because it's 12 GB and Sony is trying to price match the xbox360. Both aren't actually good deals.

Short search on amazon comes up with this bundle which is $70 more for Uncharted 3, a 250GB console and 1 year of PSN. Definitely do some bargain hunting, you might get better prices elsewhere.

Turtle Beach P11

Good sound and mic quality.

I use them both for PC and PS3, if you have an xbox you could get ones that work with both xbox and pc.

I use the turtle beach p11's and I haven't had a problem with them in the three years I have had them.
You can get them here

Quick question, are these the same headset? Trying to find a cheaper price :)

There's also these but they seem to be different than the ones you linked.

This says it is 12', but even if you sit 10' from your tv, i don't think only having 2' of slack will be comfortable or doable. If you are that far you will probably need a wireless. My friend has the px5 from TurtleBeach and he swears by them. He said he spent $150 for refurbished a year or so ago, but will still probably run you $100-$150 for refurbished. Good thing about those is it is both xbox and ps3, digital sound and dual channel bluetooth voice (for game or answering your phone).

Wired: TurtleBeach Ear Force P11 (LINK)

Wireless: Sony Wireless Stereo Headset PS3 (LINK)

Both work great, and also plug into my Mac. Both have separate game/chat volume controls, and options to mute the mic. The Sony is more comfortable to wear all around; softer ear cushions, and a wide, soft head band.

I would recommend picking up the 1.5 and 2.5 edition of the games for the PS3 rather than the original. Basically those editions compile the Final Mixes of 1 and 2 and also throw in a few of the side-games that contribute to the lore but weren't originally on the playstation platform. The overall story is difficult to follow unless you really sit down and devote yourself to understanding it. I would highly recommend this series regardless.

There is minor slapstick comedy but it isn't very intrusive. The game handles mainly themes about love and friendship.

u/ZoopZeZoop 路 1 pointr/gaming

If you have a PS3, you can get the HD remixes!

1.5 and 2.5

If you're really interested, then the best possible way to do so is to get Kingdom Hearts 1.5 ($20 on Amazon) & 2.5 (also $20 on amazon) on the PS3. They're HD ports of the Final Mix versions of the games. Buying those two discs will give you 6 out of 7 Kingdom Hearts games. The last one, Kingdom Hearts 3D, will be coming to the PS4 later this year.

Anyway, let me know if you have any other questions about it or anything. GL HF!

If you buy The Story So Far, you get every game that's not KH3 represented in some way. It's a pretty good value as you get five games, one smaller game/tech demo, and three movies.

If that's too much, just grab 1.5 + 2.5 Collection. This gives you four games and two movies, and contains KH1 and KH2.

If you're not working with a PS4, you'll need to buy 1.5 and 2.5 separately.

Well the official Sony component cables are going for $80, so I don't really see how $20 is 'overpriced'. They were the only cables around that price that I could find that gave perfect image quality.

Which cables do you recommend?

I'm going to ask for BF3 for my ps3, I just got a ps3 last week and it seems that I have no money left for games after playing TLOU, my friend has BF3 and I want to play with him, also I spent $60 when it first came out, and to my surprise my computer couldn't run it and I was never able to get a refund

Mad Catz has one. I don't know what your price range is, but this one is pretty great. It has swappable sticks, so you can have it in any layout you want, with convex or concave sticks, and any dpad you want. It is pretty great. Pricey, but great.

They're $25 on Amazon, and they're not required. And the camera is only $50 on Amazon and can be bought cheaper.

EDIT: Downvoted for a factual post? Here are the links.

Camera, currently $49.77 - http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-4-Camera/dp/B00BGAA3S2
