Been traveling with this rig for over 7 months and across 4 continents.

This photo was taken in a co-working space in Lima Peru. I much prefer working out of co-working spaces as opposed to wherever I’m staying (mostly Airbnb’s) - productivity/work first, adventure and travel come second.

Happy to answer any questions. Cheers!

Edit: Here is a list of all the components since everyone is wanting to know.

It's a little more than $100.

Here's an AOC Freesync monitor

Here's the exact same monitor but with gsync. do you think the exact same features in a monitor are worth twice as much?

u/okiedokietokki · 12 pointsr/gadgets

Doesn't even support 10 bit color unlike the Philips 43" aside from the multi client support, the monitor itself is inferior to cheaper alternatives in some (important) respects.

u/central_telex · 12 pointsr/digitalnomad

Did some Googling -- I think OP meant an Asus ZenScreen

u/onliandone · 10 pointsr/buildapc

That's an appropriate build for what you want to do, but it has some small issues:

  1. The ram is too slow. Ryzen scales with ram clock up to DDR4-3000 at least, that should be your minimum

u/Joe_Jeep · 7 pointsr/CrusaderKings

Yea it's not even kind of comparable to a laptop. More of a 'hey this works nice for lan parties', which are pretty rare these days anyway.

They make some slim monitors and, some wireless keyboards are pretty compact, but no matter what you're making compromises to make it work.

Plus for true mobility you need one of those portable cells with a 110 outlet on them, unless you feel like engineering your own battery pack.

u/WorkKrakkin · 7 pointsr/buildapcsales

Can someone explain why this would be better than the Viotek that's the same price? It seems the only difference is that ViewSonic doesn't have a VESA mount.

u/ThatBigDanishDude · 6 pointsr/Monitors

I´m personally a big fan of VA panels. yeah they´re not as accurate a lot of the time. but unless you´re doing colour-sensitive work. you´re not gonna care once you see that sweet sweet contrast ratio VA has to offer.

Here´s my picks

Absolutely no prob :)

My mom reviews electronics for a living so we end up getting tons of new devices really often and generally need to find cables to match so things are being switched out and added in all the time. To make it more convenient instead of having to go sort through a box or into a drawer and untangle cables I wanted something super easy access to so that if i needed an hdmi , bam, I had one. Same with the others.

For the controllers I used Stick-On Game Controller Hooks 2 Pack. The snes and nes usb controllers are simply hung via a tack.

I got a simple ~$10 corkboard from walmart, used a label maker for the labels and then used CraZy TACKz 36tacks to hang the cables. I wouldn't recommend them though, a standard tack works better honestly ( In theory a hook is great but they loosen and then swing around making it a pain to re-orient them when you're taking things on and off frequently.)

The headphones under the desk is The Anchor Great adhesive, super cheap and can orient it vertically or horizontally which lets you fit two pair ( in my case one for skype/discord+gaming and the other for general use since it has better quality but no mic)

---
For anyone else curious about the other pieces of the set up:

the desk is Series A:72inch Desk by Bush Business Furinture.

The lights are EconoLed RGB 5M 3528 LED Strip Light 300leds

Mousepad is Reflex Lab Huge Gaming Mouse Pad

The headphones are :
SteelSeries Arctis 5
and Audio-Technica ATH-A900X

Monitors are : ASUS VN279QL and Dell U3417W FR3PK

Keyboard is : Razer BlackWidow X Tournament Edition Chroma

Mouse is : Razer Naga Hex v2

I don't really see any decent deals in my range except that $90 monitor from Acer with 1ms.
This another one is not Primeday sale one, but what are you guys opinion on this 1440p monitor from Acer?
I am little hesitant about buying the $90 one because I feel like it would be underusing my GPU.

u/thatfunkjawn · 5 pointsr/PrimeDay

The Acer KG241Q bmiix 23.6" shows a list price of $149.99 on Amazon, then Price of $116.80, then "With Deal" for $104.99. Yet on the Acer website they're showing a price of $99.99, with Amazon being the only merchant that sells it.

How does that make any sense?

u/MAD_MAL1CE · 4 pointsr/buildapc

Fun tidbits I have learned using adobe for some time:

Resolution and color gamut are your top priority for computer art. You probably want at least a 27’ IPS panel with a resolution of 1440p. 4k would be even better.

High viewing angles (170+) are a must for color accuracy.

Adobe retina displays have a gamut of 100 sRGB (the typical color field for digital cameras.) This is a good standard to aim for.

A second, cheap monitor for adobe controls, reference pics, etc is very helpful.

Nvidia is great for gaming, but is not (to my understanding) the best for color recreation. You may experience banding on some higher end monitors. You may want to consider a Vega 56 or 64.

Curved screens are a gaming trend but can play tricks with color. You should opt for a flat panel.

I hope this helps.

The name is different, Acer XB240H Abpr. Acer's webpage probably has outdated info. Or you can ask Acer's support and find out.

u/crlyon · 4 pointsr/buildapcsales

I don't know why you are getting downvoted and criticized here. I don't think this is a terrible deal for a 27" 144hz monitor. However, here are a few options that might be better, given your current hardware:

24" 1080P 144hz TN monitor with G-Sync

27" 1440P 60hz IPS Monitor

27" 1080p 144Hz TN Monitor that's $100 cheaper

The first one is G-Sync compatible which the 970s support, but you'd have to drop down to 24" to stay in that price range. For 27" with G-Sync it would be more like $500. Ignore the people here saying to Freesync, which is pointless with a 970 build.

If you don't care about G-Sync, the second one gives you the better IPS display but you lose the 144hz refresh rate. An IPS 144hz monitor is gonna run you over $500.

The third option is essentially the same specs as the one you linked but cheaper.

u/okonefortheroad · 4 pointsr/Amd

> For a monitor to be Free Sync compatible it has to be 144hz (or so I was told I can't remember where I heard it from though)

Ultrawide Monitor?

I am looking to get a nice but not top of line 1440 34" this black friday if i can find a deal. I saw that the dell went for like ~$400 last year?

Where should i be watching or is there a better way to keep an eye out other than just checking sites?

I don't do any extreme gaming, mostly rpgs and light stuff like LoL and AoE. Have a 970 and might upgrade in the future. But i am a designer and need a good quality ips. I am leaning towards the Dell https://www.amazon.com/Dell-FR3PK-34-Inch-Led-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4TIM/ref=dp_ob_title_ce but am not sure if I will be able to grab it for a good price.

u/Vushivushi · 4 pointsr/pcgaming

160-180 is closer to 200 than 100, but I didn't even get to cover ultrawides, that's where it really goes up.

wqhd ultrawide g-sync

wqhd ultrawide freesync

Top 5 g-sync monitors on Newegg are $1000 vs $520-800 freesync monitors. The best selling ultrawide on Amazon is the $1000 ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q G-sync. Best selling freesync ultrawide is the $700 ASUS Designo MX34VQ.

General price difference (in the U.S.) isn't $100. It's $150 for FHD, $150-300 for WQHD, $200-500 for UWQHD. The rising cost premium is due to G-Sync largely being available only on premium gaming brands that seek higher margins on higher cost panels.

u/TheEdgeOfTheInternet · 4 pointsr/PixelBook

A few days ago I got a similar USB-C screen in a 15.6" model. This is how big it is compared to the pixelbook: https://imgur.com/a/88Ro4

Due to different aspect ratios the screen is almost the exact same height as the pixelbook. Without measuring it it's only around a quarter inch taller and roughly 2.5 inches wider. With the included cover/stand on the screen is a hair thicker than the pixelbook and it's thinner than the pixelbook if you take the cover off of it, but I wouldn't recommend throwing it in a backpack without the cover. It's also incredibly lightweight.

This is the screen I have if you're interested.

u/markilleruk · 4 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

> $600

OK, lets review.

A baseline 32" 1440p 144Hz VA monitor is currently ~$350

A second baseline 34" 1440p 60Hz IPS monitor is currenty ~$500

Best guess a 29" 1440p 144hz IPS is gonna be at least $600

Gsync adds at least $300

HDR10 will likly add at least $300-$500 at 1440p ultrawide, and the only released HDR10 monitors are $2000 4K@144Hz g-sync displays.

HDR certification can be checked for here.

Best case scenario we are looking at $1200, 2x what you are hoping, and its much more lily that the first screens to match your specs will be $1500-$2000.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

u/Smooth_Trumpeteer · 4 pointsr/buildapcsales

Same Specs and price as this Viotek but the ViewSonic doesn't have a vesa mount comparability.

u/Sumsero · 4 pointsr/pcmasterrace

r/buildapcsales is your friend, also don't order monitors from newegg due to their atrocious dead pixel policy. Amazon has a much better policy.

$140 - ViewSonic VX2458-MHD, 1080p 144hz, 24 inches, MVA: It's freesync, g-sync compatible on 10xx and up but you need a displayport cable. Some concerning reviews.

$180 - Dell D2719HGF, 1080p 144hz, 27 inches, TN: Also freesync and g-sync compatible (seems a dp cable equal to or under 6 feet is best). For $189 it comes with the 6 ft dp cable. Some would have you believe that TN is garbage or that 27 inch 1080p is bad, I say not really. Unless you do photo work or really into color accuracy, TN looks fine. Also the viewing angles are good enough for 4 people sitting in a row. The 27 inch part can be solved just by moving the monitor backwards.

$280 - ASUS VG279Q, 1080p, 144hz, 27 inches, IPS: The only 1080p 144hz I could find with "muh IPS panel", freesync and g-sync compatible with dp. This price is garbage for a 1080p 144hz monitor, you can get a 1440p 144hz monitor for cheaper. As typical with IPS monitors, has quality control problems - if you care at all about dead pixels, expect to send it back to Amazon for a replacement several times. The only reason why you would want a monitor like this one is if you really need IPS but don't have the GPU for 1440p.

The first two options are good prices. If you have the budget for it, you might consider 1440p 144hz; good TN options at around $300 these days (I got mine for $250 a week ago), and IPS options around $400.

u/Reygle · 3 pointsr/techsupport

I don't want to be "that guy", but an iPad is incapable of acting as a second screen for any laptop.

OP- These are USB powered- you can slip them in your laptop bag. 1 USB cord later, you have an additional external display on-the-go.

u/stumpysharcat · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

I personally haven't seen a 144hz on a 32. On a 27 alone is usually around that price point.

Thanks! It's a Viotek GN32DB. I've only had it a few weeks but very happy with it so far especially considering the price. It's not on the official list of G-Sync compatible FreeSync monitors, but GSync seems to be working just fine.

u/Drone_U · 3 pointsr/pcparts

The ones that I am hoping for at the VIOTEK 32" monitors. I saw they had a decrease in price last week and I decided to go for them as they seem very high quality monitors. I had a VIOTEK before and was really satisfied of their quality so I am looking forward for these ones. If you have any other 2k-144hz monitors other than the Acer Predator you linked, I'd be happy to look at them. Though try to make them more around my budget ($600).

Now you've got me eyeing an Acer XB240H... It's more than I want to spend, but it's got it all - IPS, G-Sync, 1440p, & 144 Hz! I don't want to waste the GPU's capabilities on a cheap model, so it'll probably be the G257HU or saving up a tad more for this one.

u/redoran · 3 pointsr/buildapc

I just bought this for $350 on black friday. A comparable non-gsync monitor @ 144 Hz is about $230. In my opinion, it's worth the difference.

Hi guys

u/GuacLockAndDropIt · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Thanks :) It's a HP 27" monitor -- link here

However, I will say that I initially bought this monitor for docking my laptop and having a dual screen setup for school so I didn't necessarily buy it for gaming purposes. I'm happy with the screen quality though!

u/MusicallyCursed · 3 pointsr/Monitors

A PS4 cannot benefit from a monitor with more than 60 Hz refresh rate. Your budget is also a bit constricted. Nevertheless, the HP 27er 27-in IPS LED Backlit Monitor has excellent reviews and it is a 27" monitor.

EDIT:

Adding more details.

I don't recommend a TN panel because IPS is superior in terms of color quality, and the response time difference between a 1ms TN panel and a 5ms IPS panel is completely negligible, especially at 60 Hz. Please see this comment for a very detailed response of why.

Taking into account the negligible difference between TN and IPS in response time, IPS provides superior color quality vs TN, and buying an IPS monitor is within OP's budget.

u/jaykresge · 3 pointsr/Monitors

> I have been wanting to get a monitor for quite a while now, and I have been wondering if a 27" 1080p model would be too pixelated.

For most users, no, it will be fine. There's a group of us that prefers 1440p at that size, and a smaller group (myself included) that prefers 4k. But the VAST majority of PC users are 1080p or lower. If you're on a strict budget, a 1080p 27" monitor is a good basic option and there's no shame in that.

> I'd like the monitor I get to be IPS and have a response time of at least 4ms.

Absolutely ignore the response time. It's an advertised figure not based in reality. If you're choosing IPS or TN and not overdoing the overdrive setting then you won't notice ghosting in most cases. VA panels are a different story.

> Standard 60hz is fine for me, remember I'm in highschool. My max budget is $200.

Here's my personal preferences in this market.

I Seek Your Advice Kind Friends. My Heart Wants The Expensive LG 34UC80-B (34 Inch, Curved And 1440). But My Wallet Likes The Cheaper Samsung 32" At Costco (Curved And 1080). I Do Not Game, I Develop Websites And Apps. I think I just need help deciding if I'm going to hate the 32". My main reason for an ultrawide is to gain real estate while I simultaneously declutter my desk and ditch the asymmetrical shit show that I currently have going on.

If you're looking to splurge I'd go with this or this. Those are your luxury brands right there.

For a substantial amount less, you could go with this guy, although I can't personally speak to the quality on that brand. I'd also consider this in that range (also it's 32"!).

Cheapest I can find while still adhering to a photo-editing-quality requirement would be this.

And honestly, I think this would be more than suitable for your needs. Get 2.

For that price of the amazon.co.uk you posted I'd go for a 4K monitor.

IPS: Good viewing angle - bad contrast.
it's not a rule mind you there are many expensive IPS professional monitors out there but you'll spend at least £1.5k

I'd personally grab any these

(it's a VA panel https://iiyama.com/gl_en/products/prolite-x3272uhs-b1/)
Both Samsung and iiyama looks good to me and Viewsonic in third because low contrast ratio (1000:1). Still ViewSonic offers 2160p 60Hz 10 bit which is something to consider; if it's real 10bit i'd say it's a good thing to consider and look for reviews.

For that price I'd avoid the Dell. It's not much different from their P line (Ultrasharp is supposed to be their line for video/photo editing) . It's not bad by any means I have a P 27" 1080p IPS here however it's not ideal for photo editing or anything other than regular browsing and regular gaming

This one here was considered one of the best for picture editing and it's 1440p:

My monitor for the last few years, an LG W2753V-PF, has started misbehaving. It has trouble turning on (turns on, hits splash screen, turns immediately back off), and the control "buttons" sometimes act as if the monitor is off, even though it's on, preventing me from actually turning it off or accessing the menu.

Point being, I'm in the market for a new monitor. As I have a GTX 670, this puts G-Sync on the mind. I'm trying to stay below $400 as well. My current two candidates are the Acer XB240H(24"/144Hz/1080p/G-Sync/TN) and the Acer G257HU(25"/60Hz/1440p/S-IPS)

I'm really curious if it's worth sacrificing resolution and IPS for higher refresh and g-sync. My main focus is on gaming performance. I'm inclined to go with the XB240H simply because I know my 670 is going to struggle with 1440p, but that is on the line to get upgraded early next year. I don't want to shoot myself in the foot later just because it's not ideal now.

Also, feel free to offer any alternatives. Thanks in advance for any help and input!

u/jdund117 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I know AOC has a relatively cheap monitor model that comes in FreeSync and G-Sync variants. I own the FreeSync version, it was like 200 bucks USD at the time (don't know what that is in dollarydoos). Great response time, color depth is somewhat poor, but great starter adaptive sync monitor. G-Sync version is $200 more. Acer's G-Sync offering is currently cheaper than AOC's and probably your best bet.

Either way, G-Sync is never going to have a "budget" monitor.

u/KristenNerdess · 2 pointsr/buildapc

League and CS:GO should be able to hit close to 144 if you turn the settings down, PUBG struggles on even really high end hardware (although it becomes slightly more optimized with each update).

Being that you have an NVIDIA card, going with a GSYNC monitor (as opposed to FreeSync, which is specific to AMD) will yield better results as your display and GPU can talk to each other and the refresh rate of your monitor will adjust automatically as your FPS changes.

Not sure what your budget is but this (https://www.amazon.com/AOC-G2460PG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00SIZ8QDM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1520369704&sr=8-4&keywords=24%22+gsync) appears to be the exact same monitor but with GSYNC instead of FreeSync.

u/rauno266 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

In this price range it's difficult to get rid of the tearing problem (G-Sync gets completely rid of it but costs a lot more). If you're gaming at 1080p then I would recommend something in the 24" area. For regular PC use the 27" 1080p has too large pixels for my liking and they are clearly visible in most games/movies.

IPS panels ARE LED and LCD panels. There are 2 main kinds of panels - IPS (also AHVA, VA, etc) and TN. IPS provides better viewing angles and better color reproduction. However IPS panels usually have longer GTG response times which might cause some ghosting in fast paced games. I personally have Asus PG279Q display with 5ms GTG and I can't see any problems with the response time.

I would recommend a 24" G-SYNC TN panel if you're usually watching your screen at the same angle (straight in front of it).

This seems to be a popular choice: AOC 24" LCD G2460PG
https://www.amazon.com/AOC-G2460PG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00SIZ8QDM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479456223&sr=8-1&keywords=G2460PG

However, if you watch movies from a couch/bed that's away from the table then you would want an IPS screen that gives you the same image quality at different viewing angles. With IPS screen I would forego G-Sync (at this price range) and rather look for a 144Hz screen. I tried looking for good 1080p 144Hz IPS monitors and it seems that there aren't many. However if you want you can buy a 1440p IPS 144Hz and play your games on a lower resolution. Although everything else you do on your computer benefits from the higher resolution.

u/lebage · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Check the resolution. There's another similar model, i.e. same screen height and width but with 880 and 360 less pixels respectively. If you think about it it's really like a 29" at a 21:9 aspect ratio. That's a deal-breaker at least for me because I'm a snob for the resolution.

  • Acer R240HY: 23.8", 1080p, 60hz, 4ms response time. Current #1 bestseller monitor on Amazon. Probably also the best price performance ratio out of this list.
  • Acer G247HYL: 23.8", 1080p, 60hz, 4ms response time. This one seems to fit in here. Amazon reviews say they have problems with the DisplayPort, the monitor should be considered to be only usable with HDMI. Viewing angles are bad which I honestly can't believe. IPS is prominent for very good viewing angles. You can choose all sizes and panel types and since the comments for all products are crammed on this page we are probably reading reviews for the same model with TN panels here that aren't being sold anymore.
  • Acer G257HL: 25", the rest is the same as above.
  • Acer G277HL: 27", the rest is the same as above.
  • AOC i2481Fxh: 3.8", 1080p, 60hz, 5ms response time. Reviews say this one breaks very fast (after 2-6 months). So if you wanna risk that be sure to also get at least 3 years of guarantee if possible.
  • Acer CB241HY: 23.8", 1080p, 60hz, 4ms response time. Yet another Acer model. Looks different but should technologically be very similar to the 3 first models. I find the lack of reviews disturbing.
  • ViewSonic VX2476-SMHD: 24", 1080p, 60hz, 4ms reaction time. Supposedly flimsy/breaks fast if you aren't careful. Much less negative reviews than the models above. Imo you should also consider paying for a longer guarantee. Be sure to check out different sizes and resolutions.
  • DELL something: 24", 1080p, 60hz, 6ms response time. Slightly worse response time but you can expect slightly better quality (i.e. stuff not breaking as fast) all around because DELL. Very new/young product.
  • Philips 247E6QDSD: 23.6", 1080p, 60hz, 5ms response time. Some negative response that say "bad quality" but don't state what exactly was bad about this product. Wouldn't care too much then.
  • ASUS VN248Q-P: 23.8", 1080p, 60hz, 5ms response time. A few people say this monitor breaks somewhat quick and that ASUS support wouldn't help very much.
u/RoboTicks · 2 pointsr/buildapc

My opinion:

Your graphics card has limited ports. 1 DVI, 1 HDMI, and 2 mini DisplayPort. Your current monitor has inputs for DVI and VGA. If you got a second monitor, you would have to use a mini DisplayPort or HDMI to DVI adapter. (This wouldn't be a big deal, but you should be aware of it from the get-go)

The bigger thing to concern yourself with is the performance of the monitor. You say you play CS:GO. If you play competitively, you'll probably benefit a lot from having a 144Hz refresh rate monitor. If you play casually, a 60Hz refresh rate is fine. If you are sticking at a 60Hz refresh rate and 1080p gaming, I would suggest upgrading your monitor from a TN panel to an IPS panel. If you don't know the difference, look into it.

You can dual-monitor an IPS and TN monitor without any problems, but having one IPS will make you want to upgrade your TN.

It's tempting to recommend a screen larger than 23", but 1080p gets bad at larger screen sizes and I don't think your build could handle 1440p. (Don't take it personally, mine cannot either.)

Edit: Example Monitor - $188.79

In terms of parts:
The cpu is just a good all rounder. A true 4 physical cores, which helps with gaming and just general use.
You can also overclock this cpu in the future if you wish to get an extra performance boost, although not necessary since it reaches a respectable 3.4ghz on boost.
The gpu is an amazing card for the price, will allow for 60fps medium/high settings.

In terms of storage, I added a simple 120gb ssd for fast boot to os, and faster general tasks. For bulk storage I threw in a standard 1tb hard drive.

I went with a simple looking case, since you expressed your disgust for "gamer crap" (Totally understandable)

I also included an additional 92mm exhaust fan, to aid with airflow.

In terms of monitor recommendations, I would recommend the BenQ - GW2270.
It's just a standard 1080p monitor, 60hz, 5ms, decent colour gambit; however, it goes for only $89. It's quite reliable, and has amazing reviews as it's also from a reputable brand.

u/MWrathDev · 2 pointsr/Monitors

All depends on what level of pixel density you're happy with / how close you sit to the screen / how good your eyesight is.

The monitors you have now are 1080p @ 27" = 81.59 ppi

Dunno how this looks for you, but for me it would look horrible, pixels would look like lego blocks. Anyone lookin to buy 1080p should not be going over 24".

So higher res / pixel density is better right?... Well not exactly. Unfortunately because of how windows is designed (renders at 96 ppi by default) text and UI uses raster methods to upscale. I'll let linus explain why that's a bad thing and why scaling sucks:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NF210WeR9C8

Yes pixel density is important, but as long as you're not pressing your eyeballs against the screen you don't need to take it to the extreme as you would in the case of a phone / tablet because those are devices that are mobile enough where you can hold them up and closer to your eyes (hence why those devices have pixel densities of ~300 ppi minimum).

> Was also looking at this: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-BDM4350UC-43-Inch-IPS-LED-Monitor/dp/B01E18XRY2/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_147_lp_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=GEQWQ4B0TR55KPD80N88

Yeah, ASUS also has a 43" VA panel in the works.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImQVbMOH90E

They're a solid choice because the pixel density is above windows native render (giving you that extra crispness) but also not so high that you have to scale the balls off it to actually see anything. For reference:

  • 1440p @ 27" = 108.79 ppi
  • 4K @ 43" = 102.46 ppi

In short my buying rules would be, if you're buying 1440p don't go over 30", if you're buying 4K don't go under 32" (you'll still have to scale, but at least it'd be bearable).

Also make sure you know what you're getting into. Larger screens sound better, but it also means you may have to move your head / neck more = potential RSI issues.

    > I think that size would be great, which begs the questions-- should I be looking at a 4k TV instead? Much less expensive and limited gaming i'd be using it for. I see Samsung 4k's 39-43" for like $349 or less....

No, because input lag and chroma-subsampling are still a mixed bag on TV's. On expensive high end models it wouldn't be as much of an issue, but you'll notice it pretty much everywhere else.

Not bad at all. I used a 1080p 32 inch monitor for over a year at 2 or so feet away and it was a great upgrade from a the small 16ish inch maybe it was 19 but no more than 22. I can't remember idea is its smol. Anyways the 32 inch 1080p monitor was quite an upgrade and I could see details I never saw before. So no its not bad at all. I have 20/20 maybe slightly better vision if you have the same or worse unless you are really nit picky its not something to be worried about. And yes you can see the pixels IF you look for them. They are there quite visible but honestly immersed in a game or a video they melt away. As a matter of a fact it felt strange not seeing any on my new 4k 32 inch monitor. And thats another thing for casual movies or tv shows its great the monitor I used was LG 32MA68HY-P and it was great. I know its not the same response time as you like but as someone whos never used a high refresh rate display it was fine with me and the colors are great no ghosting issues and a beautiful ips panel hardly any glow. And yes I've watched demo videos and even seen it in person the difference and yes I know there is a difference between 60 and 144 but to me I like better image quality since I'm not really a competitive gamer but hey thats just me.

u/Caleb10E · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I wouldn't use a TV because they make for pretty poor monitors on a desk thanks to their heavy postprocessing, which introduces lots of input lag. You're better off buying a regular monitor.

Look at the LG 32MA68HY. 32", IPS and 1080p, so text should be pretty readable from 4 feet away.

These cards are going to be slick, and with freesync monitor prices it definitely opens up some sweet doors. Here's what you can expect.

I'm just going to do the OC Vega 56 and you can do the math for the rest. You could be safe with estimating about a 10% increase on the 64. Remember that partner cards or better yet aftermarket cooling will improve upon this and probably a few more percent will be squeezed out with driver improvements.

Crysis 3: 4K 36 FPS
Crysis 3: 1440 75 FPS

If it was me I'd spend the 25% more for the probably 12-15% performance increase as that'll get you in to 60+ Witcher 3 4k with better cooling. But thats because I want both monitors. if you stick with the 56 the price difference is only 100$ to get in to 100hz 3440x1440 vs 60hz 4k both of which will be amazing if you are moving from a 1080p monitor.

And some monitors.

I use the ASUS ZenScreen MB16AC because I can have it to the side with my desktop setup but also have and ultra-portable display for my laptop that is USB-C driven as far as power and video from my laptop.

u/wjziv · 2 pointsr/backpacks

Thanks for the recommendations! Checking them out now, and comparing against other items I've got on my list. Might end up just leaving a review here for whatever I find; most of the bags that are catching my eye just don't have impartial reviews in substantive capacity.

My monitor is a ASUS ZenScreen. It was recommended on the Pixelbook subs, and it works well. Definitely needs drivers on Windows machines, but fine right out of the box on mine. Only thing is that it's a standard non-glass, LED monitor in your bag. It's fragile, and I've got a little bit of pixel damage from having the screen pinched, or probably setting the bag down on the edge of the monitor. It comes with a thin, protective, magnetic wrap-around stand thing, similar to what most of the recent 3-in-1 PC/tablets come with, but it'd be best with another wrap. That said, it's great quality, but I'd consider a glass one next time, depending on price.

  1. I feel like the gaming mice I've had have been much more accurate and nice than regular mice.

  2. Yeah, you totally can.

  3. You should definitely build your own, but if you don't want to do that, stay away from Alienware. You can get SO much more bang for your buck if you build it yourself. Get a friend to help you, it's not as hard as you think.

  4. The specific number of fans isn't uber important as long as you're getting really good airflow through intake and outtake.

  5. Get yourself a 144hz monitor, please. You can get one relatively cheap now at 1080p and good color quality. This is the one I use:

If you are into competitive FPS games I would highly recommend a 1080p 144Hz monitor, because with a lot of games you won't get close to 144 FPS on any higher resolutions, including 1440p.

I recently got the Samsung 27 inch curved monitor 144hz with the quantum dot and I've got to say it's really wasn't a good choice. I found myself going back to my flat Asus 144Hz monitor which performed much better and really looks just as good for the picture quality.

Here is a link to the Asus monitor ( 144Hz G-sync ) which has really served me well, would definitely buy this monitor again, on sale for $200 USD which is a great price compared to what I paid for it:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MSB4X9G

Here is a link to the more recent, expensive Samsung monitor which performs really badly, it's curved and advertised as 144 Hz freesync. Don't buy this, the monitor hardware probably isn't fast enough to handle 144 Hz which would explain the random artifacts that happen periodically on the screen. The monitor is okay if you run it at 120Hz but its really overpriced and not a great monitor:

https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/monitors/gaming/27--cfg73-gaming-monitor-with-quantum-dot-lc27fg73fqnxza/

Keep in mind you can use G-sync and Freesync if you have an Nvidia graphics card, but you can only use Freesync ( which works terribly mind you ) with an AMD graphics card.

I have the https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-ZenScreen-MB16AC-15-6-Inch-Monitor/dp/B071S84ZW7 but of course it depends on your workspace. If you regularly get a wide enough desk you can have 2 screens instead of a slightly larger one. I think the combined weight would be similar to a bigger laptop.

I already did, it's the first comment in this thread :P.

Samsung C24FG73. It comes in 27" as well, but I prefer the higher pixel density of a 24" as I sit fairly close to my setup. No "IPS glow" in a VA either.

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor-C24FG73FQN/dp/B072KKV2TB

u/JoshuaMeiser · 1 pointr/Monitors

What kind of games do you usually play? I personally am not a fan of TN panels, neither am I a fan of 27"+ monitors with a Full HD resolution. So if it's going to be 1080p, then I'd prefer having a 24" monitor. Just a preference though.

The Alienware monitor has a refresh rate of 240Hz. I'd advise you to go to a store and check one out yourself if you can. I've tried a few 240Hz monitors for the first time yesterday. Without being able to compare it to a 120Hz monitor I couldn't tell a difference. So for me it's not worth the additional price, I'd rather go with a higher resolution than a higher refresh rate than 120Hz. That's different for everybody though.

My personal preference is a 23.5" monitor by Samsung. It is a VA panel with Quantum Dot technology. I have a predecessor of that one at home and the image looks amazing.

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-23-5-Inch-Quantum-LED-Lit-C24FG73FQN/dp/B072KKV2TB/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=samsung+24%22+quantum+dot&qid=1568071828&s=electronics&sr=1-2

Alternatively, you could get a 32" 1440p 144Hz monitor by BenQ for 450$. https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-EX3203R-Monitor-FreeSync-DisplayHDR/dp/B07DPVRZXG/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=benq+2k+144hz&qid=1568072055&s=gateway&sr=8-4

Not sure if that size is an option for you though.

If you really want to go with the cheapest option you can find, then I'd say just go for the MSI. It seems like an amazing product for the price. You can always upgrade in a year or two if it's not enough.

u/Warskull · 1 pointr/SiegeAcademy

First off, before you even think about investing in a 144Hz monitor, can your GPU give you the framerate you want in this game?

Beyond that, monitor technology is to the point where everything is pretty good. The more expensive ones support things like HDR or are ultrawides.

You have three panel techs, TN, VA, and IPS. TN is the older tech, it is cheaper to make and tends to have better response times. IPS has superior color and viewing angle, but the response times and refresh rates suffer as a result. VA panels are in the middle. You can still get excellent response times on VA and IPS monitors, but they will be a lot more expensive as a result.

Viewsonic and Acer makes some really good 1080p 144Hz monitors. They offer great budget TN panels. You can get 24 inches 1080p for about $200.

Viewsonic is probably the best budget option.

Samsung has some VA panel for a bit more. You'll get a nicer image.

If you have a good graphics card and are ok with spending a bit more Acer has a good 1440p monitor.

If you start going into higher end tech like HDR the prices start to go way up.

What's a good 1080p 144hz monitor? I was looking for something with G-Sync, but Idk how much I would need it.

I was split between this Samsung monitor or this ASUS monitor. The reviews talk about how good the colors are on the Samsung one, but I think the ASUS monitor is meant for gaming. My screen layout in Unreal engine is a 32" tv, and a old cheapo 1366x768 monitor. I don't know about VR development, but I'm very satisfied with that setup, so if you want to go the large screen route, (I wouldn't suggest a tv for gaming) with a cheap monitor on the side that would work well. The BenQ has motion blur reduction tech, which might help depending on your situation/games.

_____

Copypasta:

ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur) can look good or bad depending on situation.

We understand how to fix quality of ULMB motion:

Remember, ULMB looks much better with VSYNC ON than VSYNC OFF... The problem is ULMB needs frame rates perfectly matched to refresh rates to look best. (Ultra high frame rates during VSYNC OFF can come close). ULMB amplifies visibility of microstutters, so you need to fix microstutters through other techniques (than VRR) to make ULMB look good.

ULMB will look crappy with low & fluctuating frame rates.

ULMB will look great with frame rates perfectly synchronized frame rates.

For certain things, ULMB actually can reverse tables & look better than GSYNC/FreeSync in certain games where (1) You have lots of panning effects (2) Input lag is not important, (3) You have perfectly matched frame rate & refresh rate & strobe rate, e.g. 120 fps @ 120 Hz.

Basically ULMB works best in games where there's lots of smooth-panning. Like playing a solo RTS game that runs at ultra high frame rates. Or playing a solo platformer game with fast horizontal scrolling. (Non-first-person Sonic Hedgehog style games). Then it looks "super duper TestUFO smooth" in those games (the arcade fluidity effect, the Nintendo butter-smooth panning, zero-microstutter, etc). With zero motion blur (less motion blur than 240fps @ 240Hz non-strobed). To make that happen, ULMB looking better than everything else, you do need frame rates perfectly matched & synchronized to strobe rates where the game scrolls as smoothly as http://www.testufo.com/photo(sole window, continuously green "READY" message in Chrome browser, no stutters detected). In order for ULMB to look sweet to your eyes. Alternatively, ultra-high frame rates (e.g. >500fps) can eliminate most of the amplified-microstutter effects you often see when you turn on ULMB during lower/fluctuating frame rates.

So ULMB is a tradeoff.

If you're playing competitively, perhaps for eSports money, you may prefer VSYNC OFF

If you're playing highly fluctuating frame rates, you may prefer GSYNC/FreeSync

If you're playing high-framerate games where you're getting lots of panning effects, you may prefer ULMB + VSYNC ON

Examples where ULMB looks better than GSYNC/FreeSync (at least during VSYNC ON)

  • Fast horizontal-scrolling platformer games (e.g. Sonic Hedgehog type games where scrolling is as fast/smooth as TestUFO or faster)

  • That hook "rollercoaster" in Bioshock Infinite

  • High-speed low-altitude helicoptor flybys in Battlefield 3

  • Certain wipeout style racing games / Star Wars Pod Racer games (ultra-high-speed scrolling) -- unfortunately some newer ones scroll a lot more slowly or stutter lots -- so ULMB doesn't always look good.

    Tricks to make ULMB smoother

  • Turn on VSYNC ON.

  • Get a faster GPU.

  • Try a lower Hz. ULMB perfect 85fps @ 85Hz looks much, much smoother than fluctuating 100-119fps @ 120Hz ULMB

  • If you absolutely need use VSYNC OFF with ULMB, try aiming at very high frame rates. e.g. Half Life 2 running at >500fps. The high framerates greatly reduces microstutters (harmonics between refresh rate & frame rate).

  • Lower detail levels

  • If the fast-panning is mouse-initiated, then improve your mouse sensor accuracy (better mouse, better mousepad, high poll rate). For example in FPS, you can tell how bad your mouse is if mouse left/right is not as fluid smooth as keyboard strafe left/right. Only the very best in mouse sensors can (rarely) match fluidity in both cases.

  • Use frame capping at fractionally above Hz to fix VSYNC ON input lag

How to eliminate approximately ~75% of VSYNC ON input lag

Due to input lag of VSYNC ON, that can be a problem, but when playing solo, it isn't as important, and there are also ultra-low-lag VSYNC ON tricks that can eliminate something like ~75% of VSYNC ON input lag -- including frame-capping at one-hundredth-Hz below refresh rate (works in certain games). This frame capping technique during VSYNC ON eliminates buffer pressure, and removes 1-2 frames of lag. This can help you tolerate the ULMB needing VSYNC ON to look beautifully microstutter-free.

Here is a good 144hz monitor for about $50 less. A 2070 should work fine for 1080p 144hz. A 2070 should be good for 1080p at 141fps, you’ll probably have to turn down the graphics to medium/high for some games but overall it’s still a great card. Also looking back I realize I included a 500gb hdd for storage, you’ll probably want to swap that out for a 1tb drive depending on your plans; this is most likely what I would choose. Good luck with your build, let me know if you have any more questions!

-For AAA games going forward, and even some now, you're going to want 16gb of RAM.

-That monitor is nice, but you can get something like this for less than half the price and similar performance, and use the money towards other areas of your build.

-Power supply is overkill. Drop down to a 550w or a 650w.

-Graphics card suggestion would probably be a 1660 or 1660ti.

-I went with a b450 mobo with WIFI, you can also get a WIFI adapter under "expansion cards/networking" on partpicker if you don't want it built into the mobo or find a better deal on a mobo without wifi, if you're able to use ethernet, do that and save some money on the mobo by going with the b450 tomahawk.

You should get 3200 16 gb ram with 3600. You can get it relativity cheap now too for around $50. As for monitor you should aim for a low price 144 hz like this one https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VG248QZ-Gaming-Monitor-144Hz/dp/B07MSB4X9G/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=asus+144hz+1ms&qid=1562830704&s=electronics&sr=1-3 Depending on your budget though and what you're using it for 60 hz will do you fine.

I have this monitor and was using this DP cable. I'm not really sure if its 1.3 or 1.2 but I tried using the HDMI cable from my second monitor and it worked perfectly fine on HDMI but I can only get 60 hz instead of 144hz. Today I went out and bought a new DP cable because I thought my current one was broken but I'm still getting no signal so I'm not sure what to make of that.

u/gol-d-rogr · 1 pointr/buildmeapc

Hey man I love your build, and you seem to be able to understand my perspective being Canadian as well. After a couple of hours researching every component in your build I came up with this one: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/ezwawi/saved/8qZdmG

NOTES:
I dropped down to the 3600 because I don't think I will use the extra cores and for the price (the saved $200) and specs I think this is more up my alley.

I got 3600 memory but I changed it to the Trident Z because after comparing with Corsair I liked the RGB better (I want just a little bit of RGB so I opted for that option instead of the non RGB, otherwise I would've stuck with yours).

I chose the two pieces of storage (WD and Samsung) because they were the most recommended brands for what they were doing ALTHOUGH I don't know if (for the Samsung) the 500GB would be excessive, as I would be putting the OS on it and my game library wouldn't be very extensive (at least I don't think).

For the mobo I plan on buying the one that you selected but I also found this Gigabyte one, and I only added it so you could see and give me your opinion on it. They're the same price and I think I'm going to have to buy a wifi card regardless. Also the Gig mobo is compatible with the current power supply in the build.

I bumped up to a Gold Certified power supply because I kept reading online that I should just spend the extra couple bucks and go for gold because it's less headache.

For the case... yeah I know, it's a bit more on the expensive side. I do like how it looks however, and once Black Friday comes along I plan on buying extra fans and maybe a liquid cooler that is perhaps RGB. Right now I'm looking at this liquid cooler: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/r7x9TW/nzxt-kraken-x42-rev-2-982-cfm-liquid-cpu-cooler-rl-krx42-02 . But again I'm going to wait and just use the stock cooler, because I think that will be enough considering I won't be over clocking.

Please let me know what you think and I apologize if I changed too much for your liking. You really helped me out!

Could you give your thoughts, criticisms, suggestions? Also any recommendations for peripherals would be very very much welcome! You'll definitely regret going 60hz. You might not hit 144hz in every game, but that doesn't matter. 90 FPS vs 60 FPS is a huge difference and you want to take advantage of that when you can. Plus, freesync will let you play at any framerate without jutters or tearing. So if you can't hit 60fps (unlikely in most games) you'll still benefit. Especially with that budget, there's absolutely no reason to get 60hz.

I'm not sure what's in your region, but I think this has a lot of premium features at a non-premium price.

u/Rylopos · 1 pointr/AlternativeAmazonVGF

Dell, Asus, BenQ, LG, and Samsung all seem to be good brands for monitors. You should be able to find something good for $400-$500. If you're interested in 16:10 you're probably looking at a max resolution of 1920x1200 up to 26 inches in that price range. At 16:9 you can find resolutions up to 4K in a similar size. Bump the resolution down to 1440p and you could increase the size.

Here's some decent ones. I'm no expert so definitely look through the reviews for any issues.

Thanks for the link! I got a ViewSonic VA2265smh monitor (VA panel) in the mail today from amazon, and it is much easier on my eyes than IPS. None of that "staring into a light bulb" feeling. Only 1080p though.

Unfortunately the monitor you suggested is not available in the US (at least not from Amazon). I can find it on amazon uk, they don't ship to the US, but I'd be hesitant to buy a monitor from overseas anyways -

That cleared things up, thanks.

  • Going with the 1070

  • So I can look at 1080p images in 1440p but the images are still 1080p themselves. For games, this just means I need to turn up the resolution to make use of the 1440 right?

  • Just found out DropBox only gives 2GB free storage. How am I going to transfer the files I want to keep? Pay $9.99 for a month of 1 TB? (Just realized I'm a dingus and this case or at least the 200R will have 2 drive bays)

  • I just read that Hz translates into what you should keep your FPS at. Isn't 144 Hz a bit much if FPS benchmarks for high end cards like the 1070/1080 are at a consistent 80-120 FPS? Does Hz matter as much if your FPS doesn't reach it?

  • Think I'm gonna give up the 1440p for a more practical 1080p, I need to remember I only occasionally play games where graphics matters and that I'm still a part-time student. Asus vs BenQ vs Acer w/ G-Sync? I don't think 1080p needs G-Sync but I'm also uninformed. (A lot of pros/tech sites use and endorse the BenQ, plus it mentions eye comfort. But the Asus' colors look a lot better here)

  • Was also thinking about headphones since my current setup is earbuds that only reach up to one ear. I found the M50x was well known, #1 best seller on Amazon and had great reviews. It's not too expensive ($120) so I think it's the sweet spot.

(is the "HD" in the Acer is just for show? It has the same resolution as the other monitors)

  • Can you find what display type my monitor is? I assumed it was TN since it was cheap but whites don't look pinkish

  • Are most games not cpu-bound? It looks like it only causes a negligible FPS difference for most games.

  • I assumed the motherboard was really important given the name and the fact that it's the core of the computer but I read a higher quality mobo just has more ports?

If they're not weak links, don't fix what isn't broken I guess.

  • A week or two from now, just going to buy these from the cheapest provider listed on PcPartPicker and play Overwatch, H1Z1, Skyrim, The Forest, etc. all set?

It's the AOC G2460PG with (trying to link: https://www.amazon.com/AOC-G2460PG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00SIZ8QDM) using a GTX 970 MSI.
The G-Sync is very nice and very noticeable. Coupled with the 144 hz, you can even feel the difference just by sliding your mouse around when you're browsing etc. Highly recommendable, if you, like me, do not wish to upgrade as much but want to maintain higher FPS. I don't plan to upgrade to 1440 in the next 5 years anyway, so it felt like the right choice for me.
Personally, I feel that in the end, it all boils down to your needs and what you expect out of your gear in the years to come.

The cheapest I've seen was the AOC G2460PG which was $350 on Boxing day. If your budget is capped at $300 then you'll either need to find something used from eBay/Kijiji or G-Sync is not for you.

Depends on what you want to be honest.

Cheap 1080p, 144hz, gsync I used to have one of these, decent monitor.

24" 1440p with all the goodies

If you have extra money to spare and want to get your world rocked

All in all I would recommend the AOC, as the price is great and it is a decent buy considering what you get. It served me proudly for 2 years.

The 24 dell would be a more futureproof investment considering the res.

That said I received the 27" Dell today, and it is awesome. The price is also a steal on the 27", I paid nearly 250 USD more for it here.

Edit: When thinking about it I would 100% get the 24" Dell if you can't justify the extra money for the 27"/can't afford it. Really good price and specs all around. Also, gsync is worth the money for futureproofing your setup.

CPU - 6600k vs 6500. The main difference is the clocks. The 6500 is 300mhz slower than the 6600k. The other difference is that the 6600k is overclockable unlike the 6500. Overclocking is reasonably simple, but it's not for everybody. There is a risk (not very high, but it's there) to damage your CPU. I set you with a non-overclockable CPU first so that you can get the hang of building a computer first.

CPU Cooler - The overclockable CPUs from Intel don't come with a cooler, so for his build he needed to get a cooler. The non-OCable come with the regular stock cooler, which is (arguably) easier to install.

Motherboard (MOBO) - I kept the same motherboard, so that if you feel the need to upgrade your CPU to an overclockable model, you can just sell the 6500 and buy the 6600k/6700k + cooler.

RAM - I just got cheaper RAM, there's not going to be a huge impact on performance.

Storage - Our builds both have a 1TB hard drive, but I added in an SSD (solid state drive) to put your operating system and programs on. The main advantage of SSDs are speed, when used as the main system drive, it makes the system much more responsive. The main disadvantage of SSDs (as a rule of thumb) is that they do not handle writes very well. This means you'll mostly want to refrain from moving files back and forth. They aren't super fragile, but always exercise the "better-safe-than-sorry" principle (it'll save your ass more than a few times).

Video Card/GPU - I added a filter (I'm not very good at them :P) on this one. My main goal was to let you pick the performance that you'd want/need. The sweet spot for GPUs is the $150-$300 usually, but since AMD doesn't have a performance competitor for NV (Nvidia) past the 1060/$250, the 1070 is the next step up at about ~$400 (just over budget, but if you get some of these parts during sales you'll be able to fit it in your ~$1000 budget) I kept the VRAM (Video-RAM) capacity locked at 6GB/8GB, as I think Star Citizen would like to use all it can get :) Plus it'll increase the longevity of your card if you decide to keep it for a while.

  • Add-On Here's some game benchmarks for the 480 4GB/8GB vs 1060 3GB/6GB. The 3gb 1060 is close enough to the 470 that you can consider them equal. Unlike the 480, the lower VRAM or capacity 1060 actually has a lower amount of cores, resulting in lower performance. There also is a factor I find a lot of people forget in the AMD vs NV debate; if you're planning on buying or upgrading to an adaptive-sync monitor, those that support AMD's version (Freesync) are on average, cheaper than their same specced NV (G-Sync) counterparts. See MG278Q@ $485 vs PG278Q@ $715 or the G2460PF @ (what should be) $200 G2460PG @ (what should be) $379

Case - I personally prefer the P400 over the S340 as it's the case I'm using at the moment, but both are wonderful cases and I'd suggest you look around to find the right case for you, they're highly subjective :)

  • Add-On A great place to go looking at these cases would be the Hardware Canucks channel, they even just released a "Top Cases of 2016" video.

Power Supply (PSU) I just got a higher wattage PSU from the same line, they're good power supplies and should last you for a good few builds. More wattage was mainly for the "better-safe-than-sorry" principle.

Operating System (OS) Just added Win10 into the cost. If you're a dual-credit/college student, you're probably able to sign up for Microsoft Imagine/Dreamspark which gives you a few free Windows products, including Win10.

    ___

There are some really great channels out there that put out wonderful content, I'll list a few of my favorites here.

    LinusTechTips.

    Paul's Hardware.

    Techquickie.

    Hardware Unboxed .

He's a smaller channel, but I like MindBlank Tech.

    Digital Foundry

    I hope this helped :D

Bottom is a LG 34UM67 It was quite a bit cheaper when I bought it at about US$425 a couple months ago.

Response time is a little high at 14ms, but works for the kinds of games I play, MMORPGs and real time or turn based strategy.

Top is an ASUS VS248H. I don't use it for gaming, so response time doesn't matter for that to me, but it holds up pretty well for reading or watching videos on.

u/onebit · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm using 34UM67 powered with a 980ti. I can do triple monitors in Asseto Corsa with the 21:9 in the middle and two 16:9 on the outside.

Since the GTX 1080 is out I'd go with 3440 x 1440 resolution instead (my friend actually plays Witcher 3 with it with 980ti-- i was worried 980ti couldn't drive it). Then use an old 16:9 for extra windows.

As a side note, NVidia is terrible for 16:9/21:9/16:9 combo. You can't use NVidia surround to remove bezels.

Depends on your budget, bud.

I assume you know what things like refresh rate are, and what IPS/TN panels are. If not, [here's] (http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/r/refrrate.htm) a quick definition of what refresh rate is, and a [video] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8Y26Uq07Kw) on the differences between IPS and TN panels. Also, consider Freesync. Here's a [video on what that is] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ey-KObDABI).

Now that you've gotten settled, I'll give you some options :)

[Acer G257HU] (http://www.amazon.com/Acer-G257HU-smidpx-25-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B00QS0AKVK?tag=amazon0606-20) $260 -- this is a really good monitor for the price if you're on a budget. It doesn't have freesync, but it's great for the price if you don't care about screen tear. Hey, that rhymes! LOL

[Acer H277H] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0148NNKU6/ref=twister_B016E49WWW?tag=amazon0606-20&_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) $280 same goes for this one! it's 1080p so it won't be taxing on your system like 4K would. 1440p isn't that taxing as well if you adjust your settings :)

If you are playing FPS shooters, having freesync could be a beneficial thing for you :) so consider that!

Hope this helps!

EDIT: quick side note! WAIT FOR COMPUTEX BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING! I can't tell you how many times people buy hardware before new ones get announced/come out, and then they beat themselves up. Consider these options as a pathway, but you should 1. Do more research on the things you look for in a monitor besides the things I've mentioned before and 2. Wait until something better gets released since you said you are planning to do a PC build in the near future. Wait for AMD's new architecture, named Polaris, to drop. Wait for benchmarks. Wait for monitors at computex to be announced, and then make a decision! :) All these things can help.

Why? Because I'm planning to do a PC build myself in the near future! :)

It's a widescreen. I bought it for graphic design and gaming. I've been very happy with it. It has out performed my previous 27" Samsung in just about every way. I bought the Samsung expecting good color and deep blacks, and it was mostly disappointing in that regard.

The width has been fantastic for Sim Racing and great for FPS too... though, the extra resolution is going to make me need to upgrade my graphics card.

Did you think I had it mounted vertical because I listed the short side first?

It is actually, 2560x1080.

u/DecoyGrenadeOut · 1 pointr/buildapc

Hey. That's quite a... detailed list you've got there. I'll clear up what I can. I'll go through your issues one by one.

First off:Motherboard. Addresses in problem #7 #5.
-Bluetooth. Most motherboard don't have a built in Bluetooth module. If you want Bluetooth anyway I recommend you to check out this:
https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GC-WB867D-I-Bluetooth-Adapter-Computer/dp/B00HF8K0O6
This also comes with wifi. Bonus points for convenience.

-Motherboard:Your 6700k is an unlocked processor, which mean it is designed for a Z170 chipset motherboard, which enables CPU overclocking, you can learn more about it in Google. Considering your concern about audio quality I recommend either an:

+ASROCK Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming K4

Or a

+Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 3

Both of which comes with the newest onboard audio codec [ALC1150] but I generally prefer the Z170X Gaming 3 because it has better build quality and comes with an Op Amp. Solid choice overall.

Secondly:Performance related issues. As addresses in problem #2 and #3

-Ram:32GB of RAM is all you need, most of the people who run out of 64gb RAM are the ones who work on hi profile project like BF1 and AAA titles. Don't sweat it.

-Storage:1TB SSD is pretty pricey but is worth it if you can pay the bucks. If you can't, then opt for a 120gb or 240gb SSD and then get 3x500GB HDD and run it in Raid 0 configuration. This feature is supported by the aforementioned motherboards, this makes the HDD faster while still having fast boot time and low cost.

Third: Comfortability. This one is small so I'll keep it short.

-Keyboard:It depends on your need. If you want a quiet and tactile, go for Brown switch. If you don't use the keypad much but can use some extra money and space they get a TKL keyboard, it all depends on your preference. My recommendation:
https://www.amazon.com/Storm-QuickFire-Rapid-Tenkeyless-Mechanical/dp/B007VDKLLM?th=1&psc=1

-Monitors:Are you multitasking? Do you want to watch porn while playing GTA5? Then get 2 1080p.
If you prefer quality instead, I recommend an ultra wide 1440p monitor. The 1070 isn't powerful enough to hit a steady 144fps at max settings.1080 also has a hard time hitting it so just stay with the 1070 and SLI later for extra performance. My recommendation:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VBNQJSM/ref=as_li_tl?tag=amazon0251-20&ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00VBNQJSM&linkCode=as2&linkId=DXJX3BVD7T5PL252
There is enough real estate for multiple windows when you're not gaming. So if you can spare a few buck then this may be cool for you.

-Case: Just go with what the community considers best: the NZXT S340. Simple and efficient.

-Installation: You do indeed need to buy a Phillips screwdriver if you want to assemble the PC. The rest is just adult Lego.

Hope I cleared that up. If you don't understand anything feel free to ask me.

The rightmost monitor I know is different. After some looking, I think it's this one. So I guess add $30 to the total. The rest, though, are undoubtfully cheap monitors.

It could possibly be this one.

This is the most expensive 24" monitor made by Asus that I can find on Amazon. And this is the most expensive one on NewEgg.At most it could be $3000 worth of monitors, but it's not. My original estimate is likely very close.

Is there a way to use vsync with this monitor? I noticed it doesn't say anything about syncing in the product description and I'd like to avoid tearing. I'm very new to monitor shopping, do I have to buy a monitor that specifically says sync somewhere in the description to avoid tearing if my FPS will go over the refresh rate? Thanks.

I do this. Assuming you have speakers, even the cheapest 2.0 logitech speakers will be better thank your monitor speakers, get an affordable tn monitor for ~$150 (that's the low price in Canada) and then buy a cleap mixer and tie in the audio of your pc and console both in so you can have your pc and ps4 audio going in, and coming out of your speakers and headphones if you wish. Bonus is it will be far easier to change the volume and balance of each.

I can link you suggestions if you want! Also, for gaming, any monitor would have better response time than a tv. Also you'll have to go into "game mode" and even sometimes that doesn't make the lag useable

Or you can Buy something like 2 of these then put a chromecast on one, but if you have a laptop or a pc, 2 of those would be more than cheap enough to get two and dual monitor!

something like this would be more than enough for mixing the audio lines, but you can go and extra 10-20 bucks and get an actual audio mixer or get a beringer if you can get it for a similar cost

what are the models of the two spare 21 inch monitors? Some brands have custom VESA backplates that would screw on to the screw holes where the legs would mount.
Otherwise, these 21.5 inch BenQ monitors are $90 each on Amazon and are VESA mountable.

If you go the new monitors route, and if your GPU allows and your spare monitors have legs that allow you to change orientation, they could serve as vertical monitors off to the side? The vertical monitor would be your email, messaging, long document editing screen then.

cpu: an i5 or an i7 (8th gen is the best performance)
gpu: gtx 1060 or higher number and in your price range you can get a gtx 1070-1080(this one on the 2000+)
ram : for your budget never go below 16gb and preferably ask if the laptop has an empty slot to upgrade the ram even more later on.
screen: a decent 1080p screen would do you will.
battery always sucks on stronger laptops the stronger it is the worse the battery.
Also you look like you don't give a crap about portability so may i suggest building a desktop instead?
for 1800$ you can run everything and every game at max settings at 60fps with ease and for an extra 600$ you can get a damn great screen with great colour accuracy or go for a 1300$ build and a 600$ screen which will play you any game like overwatch-the witcher3 - assasins creed and the like at 60fps in high possibly ultra on older titles.
please notice that desktops are way more powerful than laptops in every regard so if all what you care about is performance you can get around 50%+ performance or more on every program or game you choose by going desktop and for the same price.

Each or for all 4 ? for all 4 it will be a little hard, I would get one of those two HP 27er 27-in IPS or this Acer Gaming 3D.

u/BobaFett04_13 · 1 pointr/macsetups

I am having a problem picking an external monitor for my MacBook 12 inch, because I am student my budget is low.

Here are the two I am thinking of:

• HP 27er 27-in IPS LED Backlit Monitor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F6V704G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_k-9vzbYWQX957
• LG 32MA68HY-P 32-Inch IPS Monitor with Display Port and HDMI Inputs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IA9FXAO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_X.9vzbCM7E1N7

Which one, or others, do you think work best for a student?

u/MythicalPigeon · 1 pointr/Monitors

I don't think a 970 would handle 4k very well, I would stick with 1080p. A couple good ones that I know of:

HP 27er

Dell SE2717H (This one can go up to 75hz)

u/Akinventor · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

Looks to be $188 on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F6V704G/

1080p@27" is pretty low res. Honestly at this price I would just save for a 29" ultra wide. They hit $200 often.

u/wickeddimension · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Not that I know of. I wouldn't skimp too much on a monitor. After all the monitor has a very big influence on the viewing experience.

I'd spend 25$ more and get a panel like the HP 25er. It's one of pcmonitors.info recommendations. I always trust those guys because they do the most crazy detailed analysis of monitors possible. They cover pretty much everything.

That HP is a excellent panel, it's 7ms,so what. I played competitive battlefield 3 for years on a 6ms Dell IPS. it's really difficult to get people out of this notion that the listed Grey2grey times mean anything in a real world scenario.

Listed response time is grey2grey. You name me a time where you monitor changes from grey2grey? It doesn't, ever. It's irrelevant. Look at monitor's individually.. Look at the extensive analysis of a monitors performance and please just ignore what the 'response time' is listed as.

EDIT: It seems like this 27 inch is on sale for just 150

It does have a semi-glossy screen which enhances clarity, but would not work well in a bright room.

I was looking at this

But I'd probably want to get a smaller one with higher ppi?

u/Draconio · 1 pointr/BuildAPCSalesMeta

Your current screen is 91.79 PPI, a 27" 1080p screen is 81.59 PPI. That is 10 less PPI which means bigger text. If I were you I would have bought the 27" 1080p screen, or a 32" 1080p screen like this if you want really big text.

A plus is that with 1080p, the text/hud in games is bigger in all games, too, which makes the gameplay easier, even though the game is more pixelated.

u/TBSchemer · 1 pointr/techsupport

It's this one. Yes, it's only 1080p, 60 Hz, but I plan on replacing it with something 4k HDR.

I need a new cable right now because my HDMI cable is too short, forcing me to leave my computer sitting in front of my desk drawers.

I'm in high school as well and I'm planning to do something like this but I don't want to buy stuff I don't necessary need. Basically the idea to have the Mac on a stand while next to the monitor (which is on a stand as well) is connected to it. There are also speakers, and I'll be using an old keyboard that I have (usb) as well as a bluetooth mouse.

So far this is what I'm thinking:

And finally, the monitor: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IA9FXAO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_7?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I haven't decided nor found a good stand for the monitor so if anyone can help that'd be great. Also, anybody else can comment, I was just seeing if this was buying too much or is there an easier way. I have a nrMBP mid 2012 13'' for reference.

I have the Dell U3417W. It’s a 34 in ultra wide curved monitor. It’s 60Hz 5ms response time, nothing special. I use it for work mostly, but sometimes I game and it’s fine.

Dell replaced this model with a USB-C version (U3419W) and so the one I have is not sold by them anymore but you can find it on sale on amazon because of that. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-FR3PK-34-Inch-Led-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4TIM

Spend the $250 left on a GPU. Maybe a GTX 1660 ti. Not sure if the 1660 ti can push 60fps on 3440x1440 monitor. But maybe if you lower settings.

If you upgrade GPU's every year, you might as well go with the higher resolution now. The 1070 can already handle the 3440x1440, but you may just need to lower the video settings from Ultra to High or possibly High/Medium mix depending on the game you're playing. Plus, having the extra screen space outside of gaming is nice to have.

For the price point you're looking at, these are worth considering:

Dell 3417W - 75Hz OC

LG 34UC88 - 75Hz OC

Acer XR342CK - 75Hz

Another one worth considering that offers 144hz @ 2560x1440 and 100Hz @ 3440x1440 is the relatively unknown Microboard M340CLZ brand found here. Some people swear by it on here but I have not tried it out myself.

Finally, there are at least a couple more 3440x1440 100Hz monitors due for release in a few months. One is the ASUS MX34VQ and another is the AG352UCG.

Good luck and welcome to the UWMS!

Monitors can be tricky. You can find a decent one like the one you have in your list for like $100~ all the way up to the mid thousands. IMO, there's a few features that stand out; 1, resolution 1080p, 1440p, and 4k. then you have screen size/dimensions, 3:4(old almost square), 16:9(wide) and 21:9(ultrawide) Type of screen; LED Backlit or IPS, IPS, imo, is the way to go, higher color accuracy but a lil pricier. Then refresh rate; 60hz, 75hz, 100hz, 120hz, 144hz, 240hz etc. Note: Television refresh rate and computer refresh are completely different. Now there are other features of course, IE: display ports, pixel response, aesthetic, curve or flat and G-sync/Freezync.

Curved Ultra-wide's are becoming widely popular can replace two monitors with one. depending on budget, again, can help you find a decent one. On a budget a nice one would be a IPS 34" 1080p with at least 75HZ or so, more the merrier but the price jumps quickly, also to get g-sync(I tihnk its North of $600 US)
Here's a new LG for example https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFXX5JH/ref=psdc_1292115011_t3_B01DLB9BRC

u/Zeny1 · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Hey just letting you know I decided to go with the Asus one over this one.

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01N4UQIGT/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&psc=1

Because of a few reasons.

1.Apparently the asus one has very low MS + input lag.

2.Apparently "Good" quality control.

3.Pixel response apparently is best of all the 34" VA's.

4.Speakers for low volume porn and want to hear if someone is sneaking on me (almost got caught with headphones).

Another good choice I had to make against was the Agon 35" G-sync one. The only thing why I didn't go for it was apparently slightly higher input lag. With slightly worse pixel response.

https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/asus-mx34vq/
https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-ag352ucg/

Missing out on G-sync is probably huge, but I've never had a g-sync monitor and don't know what I'm missing out. What you don't know doesn't hurt I guess. I have a 1070 GTX that is OC'd very nicely (Got lucky~).

u/Luminaria19 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Ah, I misunderstood your original post. I thought you already had a system in mind to purchase and only needed advice on the monitor/monitors.

If you have Prime and can stretch your tower budget a bit, this isn't a horrible deal. Similarly, this one is stronger, but greatly eats into your monitor budget.

For monitors, you're looking at:

1 - Basic 1080p 60Hz monitor. Only real negative to it is the port options (VGA or DVI only).

2 - Refurbished, but alright.

3 - IPS panel, so better color accuracy than the others.

4 - Larger and has Freesync (75Hz refresh rate).

EDIT: Just reread your original post and noticed you specified LCD for the monitor type. Is that a 100% must-have or is LED okay too? I'll need to revise my monitor list if it's a must-have.

My aim improved immediately. It is a massive difference. No joke.

I had this monitor before:

https://www.amazon.com/Viotek-GN34C-Widescreen-Definition-DisplayPort/dp/B074G5G8FT

It apparently has a 100Hz refresh rate but I didn't really notice it. It felt like 60Hz to me.

I got this monitor instead:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071D6NGMH/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Felt like I was downgrading because of the smaller res but it's still the default res for Fortnite... and man, the 244Hz makes a major difference.

I noticed it immediately. Just so buttery smooth... whereas my other monitor it felt like I was getting stutters and my mouse wasn't tracking very well. All I changed out was my monitor and it was night and day difference. If you search for refresh rate here you'll see other people with similar claims. It's crazy.

edit: just to note, you're going to need to be pulling 200fps average to really notice a difference though. If you're getting like 60-100fps then there's no point getting a 244Hz monitor.

u/pirateslife99 · 1 pointr/starcitizen

You're right, my mistake. I googled it and clicked the first Amazon search hit, but it took me to the AG352UCG.

It's still got a 4ms response time, though, and 200mhz refresh rate. While some people might not notice the response time or refresh rate difference of 3ms or 40mhz respectively, others certainly can.

I'd be more inclined to point towards something like the Acer Predator XB272 bmiprz, the ViewSonic XG2560, or the ASUS ROG Swift PG258Q.

Those get you to the 240hz and 1ms plateau, while still giving you G-Sync.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB272-bmiprz-1920x1080/dp/B071D6NGMH

Yes, I'm interested in trying out 27" 1080p 240hz. I currently only play PUBG and just like in CS:GO; High FPS means everything in that game. My new rig can push between 150-230fps in comp settings.

My thought behind using 2 2080ti's was thyt they're already watercooled out of the box.

1080p 240hz g-sync

1440p 144hz g-sync

I can't really give recommendations for monitors.

And I'm sure there are plenty of others if you're smart enough to figure out how to search for things.

>EDIT: Sorry, I messed up on the Acer and Asus 27" screens when trying to find news searching Google. Those were announced last year, and as far as I know they haven't been released yet!

So I never followed through with the USB-C portable screen idea. The more I looked and shopped around the more that a dedicated gaming laptop seemed to be the most convenient solution for 1080p portable gaming.

The furthest I got in problem solving was hunting for an ITX sized motherboard that would have a built in "HDMI-IN" as well as a PCI slot for a small graphics card. The trouble was finding that form factor with the "HDMI-IN". I wasn't able to find one that was suitable (not to say they dont exist, the internet is big). When I couldn't find this, the next idea was an ITX form factor with 2 pci ports on the MOBO. (The idea was getting a pci card that has "HDMI-IN" to get around needing a MOBO with "HDMI-IN")

Well needing an extra PCI port requires a larger MOBO size which also requires a larger case. This was starting to defeat my need of portability. The more I looked and brain stormed, the more that a gaming laptop seemed to be the best course of action for my specific case.

However, I did purchase This ASUS Zenscreen USB-C Monitor to test out how well the screens work (latency, quality, motion, etc etc). The monitor worked very well. I plugged it up to USB 3.0 on my home PC for reference. (so i'd blindly guess that output by USB-C would provide some benefit). I played divinity 2 on it as a test and everything ran fine, color space was pretty good, latency wasn't noticeable in that type of game. Surely something more action based might be noticeable. (I can go into more details if you'd like on this monitor, if I know the answer of course haha)

So, to sum it up. The more I tried to solve the tough problem of portability the more the answer looked like something pre-built like a gaming laptop. The ones i've been looking at in particular are

  • over 60hz, G-Sync, 15.3" and 17.6" monitors These are ideal fantasy laptops
  • either over 60hz, or G-Sync 15.3" and 17.6" monitors These are high refresh rate OR g-sync monitors. More price friendly.

I'm only familiar with xoticPC through one purchase 4 years ago so there may be better options out there. But the custom build approach allows getting larger harddrives, replaced a HDD with SDD, and what nots. (probably cheaper to do some of the upgrades yourself if you are able). It also seems to be one of the few websites that shows you one stick of ram or two options. (2 obviously preferred) Its just a damn shame RAM is so freaking expensive these days.

Oh, and on the Wacom Link. I'm no expert by any means but I dont see why it wouldn't work? My first concern would be latency added. Also here is another kind of interesting idea I came across... a 1070 eGPU This could open a couple options like a lightweight laptop for work and what nots, but at home or at a hotel something a little more powerful for gaming and what nots. (I've barely looked into it, so do some homework if this sounds interesting)

The MB168B is a Displaylink monitor, so it will work for screen mirroring but not Dex. You will need the MB16AC: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-ZenScreen-MB16AC-Portable-Monitor/dp/B071S84ZW7/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_147_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=NGG97BM8PM1V35WZ4AGT

I've been wanting one of these ASUS ZenScreen MB16AC 15.6-Inch Full HD IPS Monitor

I have used 7" portable DVD players with A/V inputs before. You can use just as a monitor, or source and prolly find them cheap at secondhand stores these days.

This monitor is a bit overpriced and kind of crap for gaming, TBH. It's got an 8ms response time; if you're a gamer, most of the time anything >5ms isn't really acceptable.

Something like the Phillips BMD4350UC seems like it would be better for gaming (5ms response time), and it's quite a bit cheaper.

Here's a video review of the 40" version

There's a few other monitors in this category also.. Most of them are off brand using LG panels, and I believe that LG makes one themselves as well.

This Dell monitor is mostly targeted at businesses.

Get a good pc, a good monitor that is 1080p.
Anything higher than that is better image but high input lag as in 1440p (not very bad) and 4k (extermely bad).
Always disable HDR (induces input lag) and don't be afraid to crank up everything else if you have a solid pc.
If you're in it for sim racing go for 1080p and thank me. It's still HD but with low input lag.
In a nutshell look for:
● 1080p resolution
● 144hz refresh rate or higher
● 1ms response time
● Gsync
● as for size get the biggest possible for better FOV without compromising the above features.
anything above 27 inch and you will start to sacrifice these specs.
Here's what I'm saving for:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB272-bmiprz-1920x1080/dp/B071D6NGMH

It's Gsync 1080p 27inch 1ms response time and 244hz redresh rate. Basically it's THE ultimate monitor for pure sim racing with amazingly low price

You can still get 32inch 144hz and 4ms response rate which is still perfect and unnoticable lag for most people but for me I like to go full on hardcore.

I'm a digital nomad so I run a laptop and an ASUS portable monitor (similar to this one on Amazon). The portable is on the left with MS Teams (it's what our team uses, and it works OK if you don't mind switching between its tabs constantly), Franz for all comms except Teams, Chrome (signed into my personal profile), and Chrome (work profile: Azure DevOps, time reporting, SO). My main monitor is for Visual Studio, mRemoteNG for RDPing into client servers, Chrome (work profile: all client env connections), SSMS, PowerShell (through ConEmu), Q-Dir for file system stuff, and Notepad++.

I'd buy another portable monitor in a heartbeat if I didn't need a USB-C hub to support it! I <3 MULTIPLE MONITORS.

sorry I was confused.. why not ASUS VG248QZ. Thick bezel tho.
