> £1000

Let's break it down.

  • £1000 is $1447.

  • The Cube i7 has a 2242 m.2 ssd slot. For $91.99 you can get a Transcend 256GB SATA 3 M.2 SSD drive.
  • The screen. The Cube i7 has a 1080p samsung panel with a Wacom digitiser. The digitiser is compatible with all Wacom stylus pens, supports hover, 1024 points of pressure and has tilt sensitivity.
  • The stylus is not included so let's add a Wacom stylus ($79.95)
  • Ports. The Macbook 2015 has one port that needs dongles for everything. The Cube i7 has a USB 3.0 port, a mini HDMI port, a docking port that can hook up to an optional keyboard with USB 3.0 hub.
  • Let's talk about the high res display on the Macbook. Putting aside the fact that the Cube i7 can power a 4k monitor at 60hz via mini HDMI... what is more useful? A ridiculously high resolution screen that a Core M and intel graphics can't hope to utilise, or a fully fledged stylus digitizer for creative work? The screen is the worst design decision on the Macbook 2015 imho.
  • The screen of the Macbook is larger. The Cube i7 is more portable.
  • 8GB ram is useless on a low power dual core system. I had a high end PC in 2007 that lasted four years, did not need more than 4GB. If you're really obsessed about the ram, you can go look for a Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140, it has the exact same specs as the Macbook 2015 (Core M 5Y71, 8GB Ram, 256GB SSD) and goes for $600 used. The Dell has wacom stylus support as well.

So, even at the extra cost of a 256GB high performance sata 3 SSD the Cube i7 and a Wacom stylus the total price comes down to $521.94.

    Compare $521.94 to $1447.

    I rest my case.

I like this one. Magnets in it and it sticks to the smart cover. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XJ26RBR/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use one of my ipad / pencil combos in a manufacturing environment. To keep me from misplacing / forgetting / losing it, I stuck one of these pencil holders to the back of the case.

It's situated such that my fingers curl around the pencil when I'm carrying the ipad, makes it real obvious when its not there.

It'd be kinda neat if you could set up something where your ipad/phone would get a notification when the connection was lost.

I mostly use the Apple Pencil with Notability or LiquidText. I use Goodnotes a little. Some of my professors use Google Drive, so I need to use those apps from time to time. I also like Outlook for email, iBooks and Kindle Reader for different texts. Duet Display turns my iPad into a secondary screen for my MacBook Pro. I use Scanner Pro to turn all my syllabi and other handouts into PDFs. iStudiez Pro helps keep my schedule in order, and Quizlet helps me study. I use Affinity Photo for processing my Nikon RAW files ( I let my Adobe CC subscription lapse, I just don't find myself using my dSLR that much lately.) I also use a MIDI keyboard with Garage Band and Pro Metronome for piano practice when I don't have access to a real piano/piano lab/practice room.

I keep games and other entertainment apps off the iPad since I'm trying to study and don't want to make it any easier for me to goof off.

Case, Screen Protector, Apple Pencil sleeve, tether to keep my adapter on my cable, stand, keyboard, and holder for using my iPad as a second screen for my MacBook Pro. I also use Anker cables, charger port, and portable charger.

Regular capacitive stylus. Comparable to this: http://amzn.com/B008ULX012

I use an app called FreeNote which allows me to write huge and it'll shrink when you're done with the line. It's similar to Asus's Supernote. For pdf's I make large margins on the doc before class and zoom in to write.

I've had the same problem you had but I just found apps that suited my needs. A tablet like a Galaxy Note might be better.

u/ApatheticCreative · 9 pointsr/gpdxd

Like most smartphones and tablets, the GPDXD has a capacitive touch screen. The Nintendo DS had a resistive touch screen. Capacative screens need a minimum diameter touch surface to register, so a very fine point stylus will simply be ignored. It's why most styluses for capacitive screens look like stubby rubber crayons.

A stylus like the Adonit Jot Pro gets around this by having a clear disc that makes contact with the display, and pivots around a fine point. It feels more like a fine point stylus on a display where fine point styluses do not work.

We were in class and had an active pen (similar to this) and no spare AA batteries. It was an easy decision to gut the pen.

SP3 owner here.

Yes, other pens work.

I use the surface 2017 pen, it works great. I also have this pen as a backupp. It works, but the surface pens are way better.

where are you going to find a n-trig pen skinnier than a AAAA battery?

u/crankygerbil · 3 pointsr/RandomKindness

Yes. I have both a pencil and a stylus for my iPad and I use the stylus more because it is much more precise (eg playing around in ProCreate app or making pattern making sketchings.) But for meetings I use a keyboard to make quick notes I organize later in an app for DevonThinkPro.

eta: I use the Adroit Jot Pro 3, it is something like a few pixels wide at the point. And its $20.00.

u/TekAzurik · 3 pointsr/Damnthatsinteresting

I got min in person at Target but I’m 99% sure this is the one.

I kinda expected it to be shit having just used someone else’s ipad and pencil but it’s not terrible and is passive so you don’t have to worry about charing/bluetooth issues. Also the cap is magnetic and has a great feel to it.

My biggest complaint is that it doesn’t work if you tilt the pen at too much of an angle.

Looks like they jacked up the price on the pen since the Evo View sale on Ebay. Its @ $60 now. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0052E4FJ6?

The pen comes in either black or silver and requires but does not come with one AAAA (four As) battery. I'd troll ebay for variets of "HTC scribe pen" until it comes down to the $30-$40 range. They just had a few sales that moved a lot of Evo Views and Flyers.

Here's the super cheap, simple, thin case I use. It also works as a landscape multi angle stand. Looks like they increased the price on that too, I got it for $7 shipped.

u/MUSAFFA1 · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

I have a Waycom pen for my Note 10 and a Surface pen for my Surface Pro3. Neither work on my Nexus 7 (2012 or 2013). The only pens I've gotten to work are those cheap, fat, rubber-tipped ones that basically mimic your finger tip.

I cannot find any device that allows for precision writing or drawing. I think we're stuck with finger painting.

u/Antrikshy · 2 pointsr/ipad

There are tons of great ones, cheap to pricey. Take a look at this roundup article from The Verge and this followup.

I currently use a then-$15 Targus stylus. I want to upgrade. Looks like Notability is getting a big update soon, and I'm holding my breath for pressure sensitivity for Jot styluses. I might get the new Jot Touch then.

Otherwise, I'll buy an Applydea Maglus stylus, which is one of the medium-range good styluses. Looking at the reviews, it seems like you cannot go wrong with it. It will cost me about $40 to ship to the US and it's not electronic or super-fancy. Just an excellent writing stylus that everybody loves.

tl;dr Get the Maglus or look into Adonit's Jot styluses.

Tablet Stand https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MNZ97GC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_zSewDbPK1X3FG

Tablet case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MCXLF66/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_KUewDb4VPMEH6

I like this case because I can prop up the tablet on a surface in different ways (for handwriting, drawing, reading, etc).

Mechanical keyboards are a bit of a niche thing, so the one I use (keychron K1) might not be your thing. The Apple Magic Keyboard works great with the iPad, and Anker and Microsoft also make great portable, or foldable ones.

If you're opting for an air instead, I'd suggest you get either a case that has a pencil holder, or a pencil holder that you can stick onto your tablet's case (like this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y57C5Y4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_vYewDb5XKPVMT )

Currently, only the 2018 iPad Pros are compatible with the 2nd gen Apple Pencil.

The iPad is really good for productivity tools like MS Office, and it looks like you'll get a lot of use out of it for school. The only courses I can think of that would need a high-powered computing machine are IT courses (for program and software development) and engineering/architecture (because of CAD).

can you post a phtoos of the pen. The Surface Pro 1 & 2 used a black Wacom EMR pen. The Surface Pro 3, 4, nSP & SB1 & SB2 user Ntrig/Microsoft Pen. Completely different technology.

You will need to source an SP1/SP2 pen or try to find a Wacom Penabled EMR pen like this or from another OEM, if you can't find the original Surface Pro 1 pen.

You can also look at the Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel (Model No. CS300/UK) or Wacom Bamboo Smart for Galaxy Note devices (Model No. CS310/UK) but they are getting harder to find.

u/JaxMed · 2 pointsr/ipad

Awesome. If you really want to take handwritten notes in the iPad, I highly recommend getting a stylus. Just note that it has to be a capacitive stylus in order to work, I was able to pick up this one from Best Buy for about $10, works great.

u/beuh_dave · 2 pointsr/Android

I use a stylus with the device at times as well, it works really well. I use this one as it's really well reviewed on Amazon. However, I never tried taking notes with a stylus on the device, therefore I can't comment on how good the note taking software is on android. My suggestion is that if you will be taking a lot notes for work, you should consider purchasing a tablet with an optional keyboard (e.g. asus transformer prime) or a laptop. If I had to take notes with a stylus, I would probably use the ipad 2. It has pretty amazing note taking software. I've installed a bunch.

There is no internet connectivity embedded into the kindle fire, so your ability to access email while traveling will be dependent on free wifi availability.

You won't be able to stream Amazon Prime videos outside the United States. I understand that you may be able to get Amazon to grant you an exemption if you fax them a copy of your US passport, but that's just hearsay.

Rooting the device is pretty simple. You just have to follow the instructions. A lot of people use these instructions to root, but I used these. Root is relatively painless, but I find getting the android market up and running was quite painful. Getting google calendar up and running was a challenge as well. I don't want to discourage you, but it can be a bit complicated to get all of the google services and android market up and running properly if that's important to you. I've installed over a dozen custom roms and kernels on my android phone and I've built linux servers before, but I struggled for over a day to get the android market, google services and custom keyboards running smoothly on the kindle fire. As with anything, you can surely figure it out if you put enough time reading about it. The Kindle Fire forum at XDA-Developers is a good resource for all general hacking questions. If you read it enough, you'll understand everything. Good luck!

I use this and I love it.

https://www.amazon.com/Dimples-Excel-Precision-Stylus-Hybrid/dp/B01B7X4HOS/ref=sr_1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1473370847&sr=1-2&keywords=micro+stylus

I only use the micro/hybrid fiber tip. Which I love. And yes, it does help me get higher scores and higher coins (I actually asked about this in a thread a few months ago also). There are cheaper versions than the one I linked, I wanted two so I could give one to another person. (The precision plastic circle one doesn't work that great for me, personally).

here it is :) I'll also add that this prevents the pencil from rolling because of the magnetic portion that protrudes.

Oh man oh man oh man oh man, a magnetic stylus that works on the Lenovo X1 which I have right now. I guess I don't need to obsess everyday for the Lenovo Active Pen 2 to release.

Do you know if the driver will work and allow my to fine tune the stylus on a Lenovo?

For context, I currently use this magnetic apple pencil sleeve on my Lenovo Active Pen 1, but the sleeve is a tight fit and require lube to slide it on.

u/josheinstein · 2 pointsr/Surface

Go with the Bamboo. It’s cheaper and better.

u/p3ngu1n333 · 2 pointsr/pokemongo

I like these gloves. I have one of those pop socket things on the back of my phone so I can hold it and wrap the mittens up cover my fingers.

I have this stylus. It works well with my iPhone, but its metal so I think i would prefer to have one of those rubber pencil grips on it.

I play on Galaxy Tab S4 and use this stylus https://www.amazon.com/Bargains-Depot-Upgraded-0-18-inch-Replacement/dp/B00D5GVMK8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?keywords=bargain+depot+stylus&qid=1557592387&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1

The stylus that comes with Galaxy Tab S4 doesn't work well with AO. The stylus I bought from Amazon works great and fits perfectly into the Samsung case stylus holder.

Its a lot of fun playing on a tablet. I prefer touch controls over mouse and keyboard for AO.

I’ve been using this magnet:

It’s okay for my needs, but it’s not great. I use it mostly to attach the pencil to my iPad while typing so that I don’t misplace it. However, it’s easy to knock off. So, when I’ve got a cover on my iPad instead of a rigid keyboard, I use this strap:

You’re less likely to lose the pencil, but you can knock the end cap somewhat easily. Also, you have to remove the magnet to use the strap. Bottom line is that I’ve never found anything that makes it impossible to lose a pencil.

u/Sib3rian · 1 pointr/chromeos

Kinda hard to really draw without a pressure-sensitive stylus and palm rejection, and the device has to be built for that (an extra layer on the display, I think), so your only option is an ordinary stylus. In that case, either get a really cheap one (I use AmazonBasics' $6 stylus for my phone. Nothing fancy, does the job) or dish out a little more ($15-$25) for an allegedly better experience (but I've never tried, so take my words with a grain of salt, here).

That said, do you never experience a limit? I've asked a friend, and he says his Note 7 also gets limited to a certain amount of layers in Sketchbook, an amount that scales with resolution.

Oh, and I'm retarded, so, by "OG", do you mean the original or the new one?

u/Vextera · 1 pointr/krita

I just picked up Krita last week and I'm running a Surface Pro 2. I had some issues with the brush displaying on the canvas (and thus not painting anything), but it was resolved when I selected a different cursor in the settings. I haven't had any problems since and never had to mess with drivers.

This is the stylus I'm using.

Or the Bamboo Stylus like this (the Feel is the one I selected here): https://www.amazon.com/Wacom-Microsoft-Surface-tablets-technology/dp/B00BVUR07Y

You didn't say stylus, so I thought you meant the tablet version.

I have used the Bamboo for the Galaxy Note, and I was not impressed with the crossover technology. Personally, it felt to me laggy, and awkward compared to the feel of the Wacom to Wacom technology. Not realizing you were focusing on just the stylus I was assuming the tablet, but I must say I have not tried on a Surface, and my problems may have stemmed from my phone's issues, not the pen's. With the Surface being more robust, you might not have the same issues, but I have nothing to compare to.

I have for about a year, first with a Nuvision tablet and then with the Surface 3. It works with all Windows Ink (Microsoft Pen Protocol) devices so it should work with the Go as well. Simply insert the battery and hold the button and it's on. Battery life is pretty good but nowhere near that of the Surface Pen. It works fine for digital art and note taking, I've never had a reason to replace it or upgrade.

Many people, artists especially, seem to recommend the Wacom Bamboo Ink as well.

I've never used it myself, but I've heard great things about its precision, but also that the pairing button on the top is prone to breaking off.

Try using a stylus with a note taking app. They're are cheap options everywhere.

Thanks but what I meant is the following two. They look the same but have different model numbers. One has "for Think" at the end of the name and one without.

Seems like a pretty big square. I feel like it would look ugly. Something ideal i found is this:
https://www.amazon.com/FRTMA-Magnetic-Silicone-Midnight-Included/dp/B01LY38TGQ
Its made for an apple pencil which is a bit thinner than the active pen 2, so I'm afraid to try in case it doesn't stretch enough.

No. The stylus is only available in Europe, the UK and Japan.

But you can something with a finer rubber tip for real cheap

Adonis Jot Pro, I’ve used this for nearly 2 years on my iPad Mini 4 till I upgraded to Pro 11’ with Apple Pencil. Pencil is miles better, but the hot Pro is very serviceable for your needs, and I took extensive notes on mine and it held up just fine!

If you go for something cheaper than the Plus, you can use a stylus like this one:

It's not as precise and smooth as the Samsung Stylus but it's better than nothing! - I have the Plus and love it by the way.

The active pen 2 from Lenovo is also a good choice. It's double the pressure sensitivity levels over the pen pro but no rechargeable battery. Can be had on Amazon right now for $53.

I rarely have issues with the lack of backlit keys, as if I were using it in a dark room (bedroom) the iPad is probably too bright to use anyway without waking up wife.

I was concerned about lack of pencil storage, bought a stick on pencil holder from amazon: ZUGU CASE Apple Pencil 1 & 2 Holder Sticker - Peel N Stick Elastic Stylus Pocket (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y57C5Y4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_10a0DbV092GNM

Though untested, this one seems to be compatible with the Surface Pro and Pro 2:
http://www.wacom.com/en-us/products/stylus/bamboo-smart

Generally, most pens that work with Galaxy devices with stylus work with Surface Pro 1 and 2 since both uses similar Wacom's technology. However, I wouldn't always count on it. Note that Bamboo Feel styluses do not come with an eraser.

If you aren't sure, there's always the original Surface Pen that works well.

This does depend a little on how old your daughter is but I really liked to use is the DotPen. It is a powered stylus and requires AAA batteries but It has an extremely fine tip, but does not use the stylus disks as some other fine stylus may use. I have used the disk stylus before but they are very easy to break. Another option would be the Pencil by FiftyThree, however this stylus will limit you to using dedicated applications for the stylus. Paper by FiftyThree does have some very good innovations though like palm rejection and the back of the stylus will work as an eraser within the app. If you want something that works with any app on the iPad I would go with the DotPen. The batteries do wear out in a couple of weeks so I would recommend to get some rechargeable AAA for the stylus to keep it cost effective in the long run.

Why yes, I have. It just has to be the right company. I'm a lawyer. People to market to lawyers tend to send nice things. For example, I have an awesome metal pen from a court reporter. The cap has a stylus. The back has a tiny flashlight. It is refillable. Basically this. So, $7.99 retail. Looks like if you order 1000 it would be as low as $1.68. Still, a nice pen IMO.

If you enjoy the drawing side of things, why not invest in something designed for that? Seems to me you're not viewing this purchase strictly as a phone purchase, but more as a means to a hobby/craft. You don't need to spend £869 just for that functionality.

Pick up a simpler phone, a decent tablet and one of these and you essentially have the same product for less than half the price (Phone dealers are often bundling tablets in at reduced cost too for a SIM only contract)

I think you need to think about the feature which are strictly essential for your phone, anything else you can can weigh up against competing, specialised products which can often do the gimmick better/with a larger screen.

u/SaneBRZ · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Every laptop with a touchscreen will come with a capacitive touchscreen, but there are two types of capacitive touchscreens:

  • passive digitizer
  • active digitizer

You can take notes on either on those. How good it will work and how pleasurable the experience will be, depends on the type.

On a laptop with a passive digitzer you can use for example such an stylus. This is a "passive" stylus. But there is one problem with taking notes on a laptop with a passive digitizer. You can't rest your hand in the laptop screen while taking notes. The passive digitizer can't differentiate between the passive stylus and your hand. It will treat both them as input.

With an active digitizer (Wacom, NTrig or Synaptics) this isn't a problem. It knows the difference between an active stylus and your hand. As soon as you start scribbling around with an active pen on an active digitizer, it will only register the input from the active pen (regardless if you rest your hand on the touchscreen or not).

As a side not, if you go with laptop with an active digitizer, you will need a compatible pen for it, otherwise the palm rejection won't work. If the laptop has an active digitizer from Wacom, you will need a Wacom pen. If the active digitizer is from NTrig, you will need an NTrig pen.

The Lenovo Yoga 710 and Asus you linked are laptops with a passive digitizer touchscreen.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 460 and the ThinkPad Yoga 12 have an active Wacom digitizer. You can see it even in their descriptions:

    > Multitouch unterstützt 10-Finger Gesten inkl. Wacom Digitizer Stift (keine Batterien nötig)

    > aufladbarer ActivePen Pro, 80% Aufladung nach 15 sec, 100% nach 5 min

I primarily play on PC but I use the mobile app when I'm lazy or not near my computer. I also suffer from fat finger syndrome like you and u/roo_79 and found the perfect solution: crazy cheap styluses on Amazon (here are the ones I bought). No more fat finger misclicks costing me FP and you can get a set of like 10 on Amazon for $5. (I also lose things frequently, so that set of 10 comes in handy). Totally worth it.

I bought the Logitech Slim Folio for my 5th generation iPad and upgraded to the 6th gen purely for the Apple Pencil support. However, the case does not have a pencil holder, so I bought this one on Amazon and a few weeks in it works fine. If you end up liking a case without a holder, you can just apply this one wherever it seems most ideal

For what it's worth, this Lenovo Pen also works with the pixelbook for less than half the cost of the official pen. The button works, and it's a gray color. The predecessor lenovo pen is even cheaper if you are fine with giving up some features.

Just some cheap no-brand ones with a fat tip

Like I said, it's kinda of meh for writing, but if you can get used to pressure / angle, it can be decently legible.

u/jamie1124 · 0 pointsr/ipad

I have a little rubber “leash” that goes over the cap of the pencil and loops on it. It’s nice because I never have to worry about losing the lid and my pencil also doesn’t roll around.

EDIT it’s this thing but I don’t use the tip cover or the adapter leash

u/Crazyblazy395 · 0 pointsr/samsung

I have a note pro and use it for all of my notes in class. I use a surface stylus that I bought for $30 and it works well. I use the papyrus app for all of my note taking. I should be mention that hancom office, which comes free with the note pro from the samsung store, replaced microsoft office (and uses the same file formats). I also purchased a logitech keyboard which works amazingly well and also a tempered glass screen. I love my note pro and use it every day.
