Kaboom toilet cleaning system.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001B0TZKE

I have not scrubbed a toilet in six years. Refill with 1 inch pool tabs bought in bulk. I quietly laugh at people who scrub toilets.

u/Lingo56 · 75 pointsr/LifeProTips

They have products made specifically for shower doors and bathroom mirrors.

Edit: On further reading, it seems like they're all the same product just with a different label on them. Keep that in mind if you find the windshield version for cheaper.

The effectiveness of Rain-X on your shower glass also seems to vary based on what's in your local tap water and how well/often you do the application, based on what I'm reading from Amazon reviews.

Most people in the Amazon reviews seem to suggest that you need to reapply it about every 2-3 weeks for it to work properly. It also has a strong chemical smell while applying that goes away after it's set on the glass.

Lastly, some people were saying it can possibly be a nightmare/impossible to take off your glass if something goes wrong with the application.

u/BobbyDropTableUsers · 22 pointsr/whatisthisthing

All those things are extremely mild, and won't do anything.
Start with a non-chemical solution- Take the biggest pot you have and boil water. Spill it down the drain slowly. Won't cause reactions/gases and it will kill whatever this is and weaken it's structure / denature proteins / disinfect / melt away trapped fats.

If it's still there, use CLR. It's like vinegar on steroids. Vinegar is too dilute (usually 5%), and takes hours to work. CLR takes seconds to minutes.

TIP: do not use Lye, soda ash, Oxy-clean, or anything highly alkaline. They can react with substances already in your drain to cause hazardous fumes. I once created HBr this way- had to air out my apt for the whole night in the middle of winter will with all the windows open. I try to avoid Drano now because of this. Most plumbers will tell you to avoid it too.

Something I can answer! Am a cosmetologist. Specifically this Tilex gets color out of everything. I've been using it for years... counters, floors, tiles, mattress, wood door, sinks.... one time, I accidentally left black and purple dye in the (guest) shower for three days! Another time, I found a very old, deep purple dye stain on an off-white couch... This took it right out, each time. Just don't use it on any cloth that is pure white, as it will give it a yellow cast.

You might not travel with these, but have you ever tried toilet drops?

u/FaeryLynne · 10 pointsr/disability

I have trouble standing and walking, but am fine when sitting, so most of my advice is from that viewpoint.

Swiffers for everything! Mop/sweeper, duster, dusting cloths, etc. They're really efficient and disposable so I don't have to deal with things like mop buckets, dirty mop heads, cleaning feather dusters, anything like that.

One of those extendable pincher things to help pick stuff up off the floor.

An extendable scrubber for the bathroom. The shape makes it really easy to get into corners.

A clothes folder makes it really easy to fold your clothes, and I can use this on my lap while sitting down in bed.

A walker with a seat makes it really easy to get around to do things and has a seat for when I need to sit down. The basket that most come with helps to carry supplies from one room to the next.

Stick vaccums are super lightweight and easy to maneuver even from a couch or bed.

A scrubbing attachment that goes on a power drill is so helpful when you don't have the strength or stamina to scrub by hand.

I swear by all of the Kaboom products. All of them are no-effort cleaning supplies. They have toilet cleaner, mold and mildew cleaner, and, of course, the famous shower foam.

An automatic vacuum like a roomba is great for most people, but I've never had one so I can't comment myself.

Soak your dishes. There are special products that help get dried on food off your dishes, but I've found that just soaking them in hot water for 20-30 minutes before trying to wash them gets most stuck on food off. For really tough, baked on gunk, add a dryer sheet to the water. Sounds weird, but it helps soften up the crusty blackened burnt on food and it comes off easily.

For food that's stuck on the inside of the microwave, take a cup of water, add some lemon juice, and microwave it on full power for 6 minutes. The food will wipe right off.

I might think of more things later. If I do I'll come back and edit this post.

u/fivefrancs · 10 pointsr/HomeImprovement

I haven't tried it yet but it came up in another thread. There's toilet bowl cleaners that attach directly to the fill valve so the cleaner never goes into the tank.

For the exterior, here is a copy and paste of a previous post of mine. Everyone may give you slightly different advice as there are many valid ways to do this. This routine has worked very well for me for many years.

  • Clean well with soap and water and a good microfiber cloth. (removes all dirt and oil build up.)
  • Dry it with another cloth. I like a big cotton towel.
  • Clean with a good oxalic acid based cleaner such as Star Bright hull cleaner, or The works tub and tile cleaner(NOT THE TOILET CLEANER) Applying with a one gallon pump up sprayer works great for me. Rinse well. This removes any rust stains.
  • Dry again.
  • Buff with an oxidation remover. I like this one. I apply with a 10 inch random orbital buffer and application bonnet, and remove while still slightly wet with the same buffer and a wool bonnet. In heavily oxidized areas you may need to do this more than once. If you do not have oxidation, feel free to skip this step.
  • Next buff again with a cleaner wax. I like this one same process as above, but let it dry to a haze before removing.
  • This will leave you with a clean hull and a nice shine, if you want an even deeper shine, make one more buffing pass with a nice marine wax. I like this one

It sounds like a lot of work, but once I got the process down, I found I could do all of these steps on a entire 23' boat in less than 4 hours, and it leaves it looking like new.

Edit: I forgot to mention, for the outside of the windows I like this stuff. It cleans as well as a normal glass cleaner, and causes any water that hits the windshield to bead up and run off. This is a nice bonus for many boats as they often do not have windshield wipers.

Hello! I’m glad you asked before getting one of these. Most of the store brands that you’ll see are the same MTD snowblower with a different name and color paint. As all of these individual companies went out of business over the past 20 years, MTD bought the name and now sells their junk with these once-trustworthy brand names painted on them. For instance, you can buy the same 30” snowblower at Lowe’s with a Troy-Bilt badge, at Tractor Supply with a Cub Cadet badge, at Sears with a Craftsman badge, at Walmart (Yard Machines maybe? I forgot.) etc. Troy-Bilt was once a company that made great power equipment in Troy, NY. Now MTD and Lowe’s just take advantage of their reputation.

I picked up a Troy-Bilt 3090 XP from Lowe’s when I first bought my house and hadn’t looked into these. I wish I hadn’t. The plastic chute doesn’t stay locked in place, the starter and lights failed immediately (the first use), and the steel/paint are inferior (rust!).

I have three recommendations. The first is to buy a Toro or Husqvarna from a local, independent dealer. You’ll have vastly better machine quality and customer service. If you tell me what area you live in, I can recommend a dealer.

The second is to hose off your snowblower in the spring, and then (once dry) coat every metal part with a thin layer of Fluid Film, a rust inhibitor. You can do this to the underside of lawnmower decks too.

Lastly, buy gasoline in small one-gallon increments and use the blue Sta-Bil fuel treatment all the time. At the end of the season, make sure your equipment’s gas tank is completely full with treated fuel to avoid moisture buildup and other fuel/storage problems. If you ever have untreated gas that’s two months old or treated gas that’s six months old, put it into your car and get a fresh supply for your OPE.

Edits:

• Snowblowers aren’t an especially dangerous tool. Just don’t stick any body parts into the chute while it’s running.

• I don’t care for any of Consumer Reports’ reviews. They tend to test brand new items for immediate use and have no perspective on long-term dependability, maintenance, customer service, or factory support.

• I’ve had MTD reject a warranty claim on a leaf blower because I couldn’t find my receipt. They could have just checked the serial number to see that it had only been manufactured six months before the problem, but they’re in the business of selling as many low-quality items as they can and ignoring customers with problems.

• Get one with a metal chute and manual crank-style adjustment. The cheap plastic joystick-style (both manual and electric) adjustments are the first point to fail on these.

I would rip it up and put in a new pressure treated wood and stain with desired color in 6mos-1year.

If that is not an option, buy some bulk oxalic acid off of amazon and mix in a sprayer and pressure wash - this should brighten up the deck considerably. Afterwards, stain with your desired color. (Note: Restore-a-deck - makes some nice product and 1 gallon should easily cover you for two coats.

u/huskydaisy · 3 pointsr/AskUK

Looks like limescale. Welcome to a hard water area. The descaler balls work pretty well, I also use Oust every so often which is pretty nasty stuff but does the job. Filtering your water first also works pretty well if you can be arsed. Whatever you do, never ever drink the last gulp of tea/coffee.

While you're here, consider getting a magnaloo to stop build up your toilet and grab a decent descaler like Viakal to clean your taps/sinks/bath. Also make sure your dishwasher (if you have one) is on a hard water setting (if it has one) to prevent leaving water marks.

> I'd like to stick a bowl cleaner in the tank (or bowl) to resolve the issue, but I've read it's bad to use them if you're not flushing the toilet multiple times a day.

This depends on which one you get.

This one feeds cleaner directly into the bowl, without chlorinating the tank. That one would be fine to NOT flush daily.

u/cowboykev · 3 pointsr/vinyl

u/1n1billionAZNsay · 3 pointsr/LifeProTips

I would get one of these for the toilet. That mostly takes care of the inside of the toilet. As for the seat and rim a pre bleached wipe would take care of that. As for the rest of the bathroom, keep a mop that you use only for the tub and bathroom counters and use that to clean everything else. You can finish and entire bathroom in 5 min or so if it's not caked on dirty.

u/Tree-ific · 3 pointsr/CasualUK

Also, if your kettle is really bad with limescale, you can clean it using stuff like this. It saves you buying a new £20-50 kettle every few years.

u/kittenofd00m · 3 pointsr/homemaking

Have you tried the bleach drop in tablets for the toilet tank? I am very sensitive to bleach so I was concerned about using them, but I can hardly smell anything at all and they keep the toilet bowls a lot cleaner than they stay without them.

These are the Clorox brand - https://www.amazon.com/Clorox-Automatic-Toilet-Cleaner-Tablets/dp/B00UNT65FM but you can also get generic versions. We use Publix generic bleach tablets and they work great with no noticeable scent .

This would be great! I have heard nothing but good things about these products.

I don't have pictures of my favorite CAH moment ever, but I shall explain it and hope it is still funny! Let me start this off by saying I SWEAR I AM NOT RACIST EVEN A LITTLE BIT. The black card was "When you get right down to it __ is really just __." I didn't really have too many options to play for it except a really really awful combo. I showed it to my boyfriend who cringed a little but gave me an approving nod anyways and said to just go for it. "When you get right down to it racism is really just doing the right thing." There was an awful, awful silence for a split second afterwards and I started to panic, thinking that surely everyone would hate me now for being a racist. And then laughter erupted. Someone actually fell off his chair. The reader said he didn't even need to read the rest of the cards... I was victorious!

u/Nebakanezzer · 2 pointsr/smarthome

they advise you not to add anything to the tank if you don't flush often because it ruins the seal. I use this, it sends the cleaning chemicals right to the bowl, not through the tank: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B0TZKE/

I don't like bromine or whatever those tablets are, I just use it for the system. I end up cutting these in half, perpendicular to the colors, so I get two half white and half blue tablets: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CJVPDF4/

I get them from target now, since amazon has stopped selling them for the price I want. These clean the bowl with the bleach and die the water blue with the other part. does a good job of keeping stains out and killing bacteria so it doesn't smell atrocious.

it is not a cure all though. you will need to flush it every now and then.

When it starts getting cold and I change to my winter tires and do the winter's oil change, I get under the car and spray this stuff over everything. Yeah, it's gross and the underside of your car will be pretty nasty, but it won't have rust. As someone who lives above the snow line, you have to choose your battles.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/funny

My brick house, patio, and fence has mold that I routinely pressure wash. I wanted to know if this stuff works, so I looked it up on Amazon. I just bought some. Good salesmanship, op.

u/MisterCrowley · 2 pointsr/GolfGTI

To protect the underside of my car, I sprayed all the rust prone bits with Fluid Film. I've done this to the last two cars I've had and it's been effective; it coats the surface in a waxy film that doesn't dry up. One good coating lasts the winter. It smells a bit funky because it's made out of sheep wool wax so don't spray it on the exhaust; I did this and my car smelled like a farm for a few days :/

u/paigebaugh · 1 pointr/shrooms

Yeah, I agree. I’m hoping that this will help that problem if I wipe down any moldy areas I see, as well as the entirety of the bathroom. I’m definitely the over thinking type, and I’m also waiting for my spores. Once they get here, I’ll get to work!

Kilrock Big-K.

Best descaling agent I've ever used. Read the reviews on Amazon if you don't believe me. Just be careful.

As a cheaper (and safer) alternative, you can add some vinegar to the water and boil the kettle. But it'll take longer and might not remove stubborn limescale.

u/itonlygetsworse · 1 pointr/videos

He points out something really important though. People, not just the poor, deal with this every day. You ever walk into a bathroom that someone just used and smell their shit and be like, "fuck, I'll come back later" and turn the fan on?

Or how about buying clorox tablets for your toilet bowl so it "automatically" cleans it every flush? And then realize it has that strong bleach smell afterwards that's in some cases just as bad as smelling other odors? Nevermind the fact that those tablets can damage the rubber gaskets in certain toilets.

So what to do about it if you live in a first world country but don't want a better toilet cleaning system? Well you basically need to buy a toilet kit that uses bromine tablets. For example, the Kaboom auto cleaning system on Amazon thats cheap with Tropi Clear/SpaKem 267 tablets will all do the trick with no odor. Or you can get the more expensive professional NeverScrub system, but a lot of contractors use the Kaboom system.

Compare all that with replacing your pipes that can neutralize odor. Hell installing copper pipes in your house for heating already costs 100 times more than this.

u/touchofevil58 · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

I get the black stuff in my master bath toilet.

Only thing that has worked for me is weekly cleaning with a toilet bowl cleaner that you can spray up under the rim and a brush that can get under the rim too.

I had plumbers out for something else and they said it was the water supply, which I believe.

I’ve just ordered Ka-Boom kit. Heard it helps with under rim and ring stuff.

Yes, bleach will damage rubber gaskets causing them to leak prematurely. Don't use bleach in the tank. As an alternative, I recommend systems like this which release bleach into the bowl only. (Don't purchase via Amazon though -- you can find it much cheaper locally.)

I didn’t think Bleach was actually good for mold or at least it isn’t the best. I read white vinegar was. Sorry you have mold glad too.

I purchased this today but wonder how safe it is on like camping chairs and cases that get mold from the closet. May also be over spending cause white vinegar supposedly works and I live in walkable distance from the dollar tree.

We had a similar issue but not as bad. I purchased a Toilet bowl Cleaner System. It is a small container that holds a toilet cleaner tablet and it is installed on the line that fills the toilet bowel. So every time you flush it sends a little bit of cleaner chemical into the bowl. It worked great for us. Kaboom makes them but the tablets can get expensive. I purchased our generic system from Ebay. Also I use the bromine tablets instead of the chlorine tablets because they smell to much for me but some people like that chlorine smell, also from Ebay. Here is a link.

u/MikeTython7 · 1 pointr/cars

I would recommend Fluid Film for underbody coating. Just clean off any loose dirt and rust then spray it on. Since it's lanolin based it wont damage any plastics or rubber and it does not wash off easily so your car can still be taken through the car wash.

u/michaelrulaz · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

So this is something I am very knowledgable on. I work in claims management specifically “cat” catastrophe claims. Water losses (such as water backup, pipe bursts/freezes) fall under us too. That being said mold is a very hot topic in insurance and legal realms so take this advice as you will and I’m not responsible for anything that happens.

Mold is very basic but if not addressed properly or left to its own devices it can become a serious issue. The first thing you need to do is address the environment in which the mold is in. Mold requires a damp, humid, and preferably dark environment to live in. Get a dehumidifier to lower relative humidity. A few of the squirrel cage air movers can also help. Next you need to check the moisture of the room. A cheap moisture meter will help you figure out if you have trapped moisture in your walls. I know you mentioned it’s a basement but is it a finished basement? If so you could have mold living in the walls and insulation. Some people may say to ignore it but it will eventually spread and become visible again. Also mold can lead to respiratory issues. If there is no mold beyond the walls pull up a section (like a corner) or carpet and pad and check there too. If all is clear then you need to move onto the second phase. Getting rid of the mold spores that already are there. You mentioned it was on cardboard boxes and such. You need to go through the boxes and clean anything your saving or bag and toss the other stuff. You have to decontaminate everything or the spores will stay and come back later. I recommend scanning and pictures or important documents or just buying a cheap laminator and laminating them. Anything plastic or metal or wood can be cleaned. Look for a anti-microbial cleaner. Throw out the old boxes and such. Now for the basement itself. Once the moisture levels are down you can start cleaning everything. Get one of those pump sprayers and mix bleach and water together. Consider a small mask due to bleach smelling terrible or brig in fresh air. Bleach will kill all the mold and it’s great for clean up. Then purchase more anti-microbial spray (usually you can get in one of those bottles with pump and sprayer). Spray everything - the walls, ceiling, floor, etc. to prevent future growth.

I know it sounds like a lot of work but it’s pretty simple. Check for mold, clean mold off contents and structure, spray anti microbial spray. Some useful tools you may consider is a pump sprayer ($10 Home Depot), moisture meter ($25 on Amazon), hygrometer ($20.00 on Amazon), mold test kit ($10-15 Amazon), bleach (cheap), anti-microbial spray ($30 Amazon link below)

Believe it or not, Scrub Free is amazing. It's about the best cleaner for everything. It removed the dried bird poo quickly, and even removed Sharpie marker from wood and cloth after my toddler son got creative and was hiding. It doesn't contain bleach and is pretty fast to dry.

Problem solved.

This device keeps the bowl clean without risking the seals in the tank.

Someone else commented saying white vinegar. I have used this to restore an old leatherman I found while skiing when I was a kid. It was 90% rust but after soaking in vinegar and a little elbow grease I had it shining. Another slightly more aggressive approach would be to use some CLR or equivalent to really get that rust off and then throughly clean with iso and hot water after. Now that the coating has worn off the vape may be more prone to rusting so you may want to get another one anyway. I have abused and neglected the hell out of my 2018 M and never seen a spot of rust. Tryin to show it some love now with a nice new glass cradle for it to rest in
