>The Get Lost Wasp is a simulated wasp nest which acts on wasps' instinctual and territorial behavior. Most species of wasps have a natural tendency to avoid nesting within a 200 ft. radius of a competing colony. Wasps also tend to patrol no further from their nest than this same 200 ft. radius. The Get Lost Wasp acts as a first line of defense in the pest management of your property by simulating that the area is already claimed by an existing colony of wasps.

Ant traps where some liquid or goo attracts them (ants have a strong sense of smell) and they get stuck is a thing. (See here) Congrats, you just created your own DIY ant trap! And simultaneously created a protein rich honey!

You're going to have a lot of fun! When I started out I wanted to try out every component I could get my hands on and ended up spending "hundreds of dollars" (LOL: As if that's a lot of money compared to most other hobbies).

So it sounds like you've got everything you "need" so I'm going to tell you what you definitely don't need... But could have a lot of fun with:

  • You definitely don't need a 5-pack of "frickin' LASERS" for $2.
  • You definitely don't need a MQ-4 methane sensor for building a stink detector for $5.
  • You definitely don't need a 6-axis accelerometer/gyro for $3.
  • You definitely don't need a 2-pack of tiny Arduino Pro Micros (which can emulate a mouse/keyboard) for $15.
  • You definitely don't need a 4-pack of small servos for $15.
  • You definitely don't need a 300-pack assortment of superbright LEDs for $12.
  • You definitely don't need a 10-pack of 5v buzzers that add beeps and boops to all your projects for $1.50.
  • You definitely don't need a package of copper tape to make a capacitive touch-sensitive user interface for $8.
  • You definitely don't need 4x brushless motors, 4x electronic speed controllers (ESCs), a flight controller, a transmitter & receiver, silicone wire, barrel connectors, LiPo batteries & charger, and loads of propellers to build your own quadcopter out of PVC.

    Have fun!

Edit: I almost forgot one of my favorite toys: The 8x8 LED matrix! You definitely don't need a 10-pack of red 8x8 LED matrices for $10. Nope!

They're not hard to care for, but they do have some specific needs. You'll probably need to buy distilled water for it, as most tap water has too many minerals for them (and most other carnivores). They also won't thrive indoors, generally. They love full, direct sun. Being outdoors also allows them to catch their own food. They also go dormant in the winter when temperatures get cooler, and grow again in the spring. It's common for people to think they're sick or dead when they're really just dormant.

Sometimes home improvement stores will have them in small plastic domes near the tropical plants section (although flytraps aren't tropical plants). If not there, this is a highly recommended seller on Amazon.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. :)

I set up a mouse village in woods about 5 miles from my house. Not near any other home. There is a stream and shelter. Someone dumps there unsold pumpkins nearby. I’ve put boxes out with small holes and cracked corn inside. They have shelter, water, and a food source. The rest is up to them. I get teased for trying to save mice. I don’t really care. They mean me no harm so I don’t see why releasing them in woods is a big deal. Anyway, the cube mouse traps work for me. Check them out before using. If you rotate it with a mouse inside the trap door can open. I put them in a box and drive the to the village. Then rotate the box and slide them out onto the ground. Easy, clean, and humane. Just make sure you release them far from your home or they’ll find their way back.

You'll need to use a gel bait. Best applied in commonly found harborage areas like around warm, moist areas, (the mechanical workings of refrigerator, behind stoves, in cabinets, under sinks, any other areas you commonly see them) place the bait in pea sized drops, and use more then you think you'll need. The idea is if they eat the bait, come back looking for more, wwr want it to be the for them to find

These products are great for areas you can't reach or see like inside walls. You'd remove outlet covers, lights switch covers etc. Place tip of duster inside the wall, and "blow" the dust inside the wall.

A few things to look for after applying, firstly, dead cockroaches show they're getting in the product. Also, the growth regulator will mutate the females appearance, curling the wings on their backs. Seeing these will also give you a clue you're applying the product in the correct place. All of these products are expensive, but when applied correctly will be very effective at solving your problem. Good luck to you

I would use Terro which is borax in a sugar solution.

It really is the best thing, though it takes a while. It's also basically nontoxic for humans and animals, so it's a great fit for you it sounds like.

BTW you can get this cheaper locally than on amazon, most likely.

My friend’s son and her brother are allergic to mosquitos. They get blisters like this every time.

Take Benadryl, and bundle the hell up. She kept her son in long sleeves, long pants and socks, even during the summer when he was a baby.

I highly recommend the Katchy mosquito trap sold on amazon. We’re overridden with the damn things in my area and this thing has really helped us a ton.

Liquid sprays do no work for brown recluses generally, you have to directly spray the spider itself to maybe kill it. You need a dust. Something like this works well, https://www.amazon.com/Delta-Dust-Multi-Control-Insecticide/dp/B002Y6B4A8 but you have to use it right. Take switch plates off dust in there, under and in cabinets, be hind appliances, basically any dark places that they can hide.

If it is bad soil, it's actually a really easy fix. In addition to having plenty of drainage holes in your pot, I also recommend bright indirect light.

The only thing I did was repot in Black Gold Cactus and perlite (1:1 ratio) and reduced the water to maybe once a week since it's summer. Lowes was watering it every day in a sphagnum moss blend growing medium so it was damaging the roots. Most of the time this is why the leaves are yellow, fail to unfold or fenistrated leaves are slow to appear. I just cut one old stalk down at the base and waited for another to appear. Repeat until all old, yellow and unfenistrated leaves are gone.

Since the first recovery video was shot, I have six new leaves (twelve fenestrated and healthy) and a new shoot coming through the soil. I have also upgraded to a 5 gallon equivalent air pot, integrated bark, charcoal and pumice back in with the gritty cactus mix. I also plan to start staking it to a moss pole this weekend.

When you repot, I highly recommend adding [Bionide Systemic] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BX1HKI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_nRXNDbZQ1TFN3) and setting up [yellow sticky traps] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GRYDWYK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_lSXNDbRR2M9AB) to reduce the breeding adult population while the systemic kicks in.

pyrethrin is good for aphids and most any other pest.

It's good to have it around for any gardener. It's organic and degrades after a few days so no worries about it being that toxic. the little 8 oz concentrate will give you ~5 gallons of solution.. which is a lot should last you a long while.

i too messed around with soaps, neem, and other stuff before getting this, it's great.

There are a number of motion-activated or remote-activated sprinkers you could get, I believe they were made with your specific problem in mind. Here are some examples from a Google search:

https://www.amazon.ca/Contech-Scarecrow-Motion-Activated-Sprinkler/dp/B000071NUS

Set something like this up near your birdfeeder and after a few soakings the cat will probably leave your yard alone.

A bit of both! i think wasps are territorial and wont build nests if they suspect there are ones already in the area. Like others said, yellow sticky paper to catch the flying adult, DE on the soil helps to kill the larvae as does a fan and letting the top of the soil dry, but if you want to kill the larvae immediately try something like this with pyrethrins. This is concentrated so you'll need a spray bottle, but it's much cheaper than buying diluted. I had a bad infestation and that sprayed onto the soil did a fantastic job of killing the larvae.

With the traps and spray, in a couple days most flying ones were gone and it took about 1.5 weeks for the last one to be gone. I sprayed the soil a second time after 1 week just to be safe, but it's been 3 weeks now with no bugs. When I sprayed I used about 3-4 oz per plant, I definitely soaked the top of the soil

u/yguy52 · 2 pointsr/dogs

For your sake, do NOT delay treatment at all. Fleas can make your life and your dog's a living hell. They reproduce so fast. Your pets should be on flea medication year round.

Give them the meds, start vacuuming daily and buy a can of alpine. Trust me when I say you really want to nip this in the bud.

u/Jxcintron · 2 pointsr/IWantToLearn

So I'll start this by saying this is not a sponsored advertisement of any kind..

I hate bugs. Anything with more than four legs just creeps me out. So when I moved to Arizona, and saw some of the creepy crawlies we get here, I knew I needed an answer.

Enter the "Bug-A-Salt" salt shotgun.

This thing has been so handy at expelling the multipede miscreants from my home. Load it up with normal table salt, rack your salt gun, flip the safety off and fire. (Always practice safe firearm etiquette, even with this item!) The salt disperses and is cleaned up easy enough. I have two pups at home myself and I know if I'm just putting salt around then it won't harm them.

Now when bugs enter my Home I give them the ol' what's what. Like the other posters said, get mad at the bugs. But after you get mad, get even. Show them who's the boss with the Bug-A-Salt.

u/Maofish · 2 pointsr/houseplants

Currently in the midst of dealing with a gnat problem. Here's what's worked for me so far:

  1. Can't have fungus gnats if you don't grow your plants in soil (uprooted my English Ivy and am now growing the damned fool in water because gnats kept going back to it).

  2. Mosquito bits. I honestly don't know the ratio of bits:water that should be used so please correct me if I'm wrong, but I soak about 4oz (this was probably overkill) of bits into a gallon of warm water for about an hour (or let it sit overnight in room temp water), and then water your plants with it like normal until your gnats are gone. I try to strain the bits from the water with some mesh because I've seen others have molding issues if they let the bits sit on top of the soil.

  3. Catch the adult gnats with sticky traps before they can breed even more. I cut traps into 4ths or 8ths depending on the size of the plant and attach a disposable chopstick or skewer to stick it into the soil.

  4. To prevent your other plants that currently don't have gnat issues from getting gnats, water from the bottom. It's advised to not let your plants soak in water for more than 30 min at a time. A moisture meter also helps with this. This also discourages gnats from coming back since the top layer of soil is dry.

  5. Diatomaceous earth (DE) is a temporary solution for preventing adult gnats from penetrating the soil to lay larva, but once it gets wet, it's pretty much useless. Sometimes I sprinkle on DE between waterings once the soil is dry. Not a long term solution and also annoying.

There are lots of other redditors on this subreddit, /r/IndoorGarden , and /r/plantclinic who have faced the same issues, so have a look at their posts too to see what works for them (I see hydrogen peroxide is a common solution). Best of luck!
u/CHESTER_C0PPERP0T · 2 pointsr/whatsthisbug

Oriental roaches are all about moisture control. Moisture, moisture, moisture. A combination of a pyrethroid liquid barrier around all rooms, along with a "dust" (Delta dust should work just fine) injected into wall voids, esp. around pipe chases and down rarely used drains (esp. floor drains in unfinished basements). Buy yourself a hand duster to inject the dust. Oriental roaches are not that difficult to control. Again, IT'S ALL ABOUT MOISTURE CONTROL.

u/Tplatypus · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

What you want is pyrethrum concentrate. It's made from Chrysanthemum seeds and is cheap and available everywhere.

The synthetic pyrethrins are more effective but also toxic and harder to flush from a plant in my humble opinion. Rather I should say that while they are both considered some of the least toxic insecticides available. But not everyone agrees.

Teacher taught me to use these yellow sticky paper traps as an organic solution for fruit flies. They work well if you put a few hanging around your plant. Not the most visually appealing option, but they're pretty good for backyard gardening.

u/AudioxBlood · 2 pointsr/aww

I'd like to let you know first that when you're replying to comments, you're actually posting it as a parent comment. :)

Second, there are deterrents for birds such as reflective tape like this: and also sonic deterrents that emit a noise that birds don't enjoy at all, but might also keep the cat away depending on his hearing. You could also get a decoy owl, which will keep most birds off your property.

u/cleverascanbe · 2 pointsr/Android

Ya, np. I can tell you, I got all my materials from Amazon. The guide will mention copper conductive tape, most commonly associated with guitar repair. However, if you order this "guitar repair" tape it's marked up. I used Slug Tape and it works just fine for a lot less money.

In fact here's the rest of the mats:

Pre Back

Touchstone

Wall adapter -- though any should work fine I just didn't have spares and it's <$5

Soldering Iron -- I didn't have one

Guitar Picks if you lack enough -- I used about 6-8 popping the bezel

If you don't already have extended battery and cover

The only thing I didn't buy off Amazon were the magnets. I picked mine up from K&J Magnetics. Go for any of the disc type that are 1/32" thick. I think I got a pack of ten for a little over a dollar, and I believe each is rated for about 0.4lbs of force, more than enough.

It took me about 2 hours to finish the project, but read through the whole thing first, don't just wing it, and make sure you're comortable with popping the glass out of the bezel and soldering on your device. For what's it's worth this was the first time I've ever soldered, and it went better than expected. I practiced making little weld dolops for about 5 minutes before I trusted myself on the back of the device. Good luck!

For residential removal, I've had really great success using this with a duster/bellows application. Wait until it's night and the hive won't be active so you can work without too much trouble.

This item would be a wonderful addition to my school supplies. It would be meant for relaxing after a long day of studying for my final Potions exam, of course.

This item would be perfect for helping to clean off Seamus Finnigan in our Transfiguration class. He's always getting himself blown up.. OR...This item because they also have bristles and are good for cleaning up bugs. Absolutely perfect for Herbology!

This would be perfect to bring for warmth when sending out post in the winter. I mustn't forget my owl!

Something to help me study for my Care of Magical Creatures class. Don't know what I'd do without it. But surely this would help me at least carry such items since I'd have many to drag around from class to class.

A final thing that would help with my magic school endeavors, a secret place to hide Neville's toad, Trevor. (Or to hide my student-illegal potions and whatnot :P).

I get the whole wasp problem. They like BBQs and grills. I can't vouch for it's effectiveness, but you can try hanging one of these nearby. Also, put a potted peppermint plant right next to the grill or use peppermint essential oil as a deterrent.

As for the cover, some have drawstrings rather than elastic, but really, nothing that will keep out bugs. If it's not a ton of trouble, you could always wheel the grill into the garage when not in use. Solves the moisture and wasp problem.

As for the SA portion, you may want to look into something like atrazine

http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/atrazine-c-114_500.html?source=search_page_category_box&gclid=CjwKEAjw8bO3BRDp0bP_vL-7_lASJACL_d6wadqgzwjU19Je1Vv-N8dOILXS9Q-D6fR6wOIqd5ByKhoCc8fw_wcB

I've never used liquid atrazine - I've used it in a fertlizer blend. Read the label carefully on this stuff. If it says avoid applications reach a certain temp - avoid it! This stuff can and will torch a yard. But, when used properly, it's a fantastic product for SA grasses

u/old_shart · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

Well, it is a hassle, sort of, but covering up also prevents skin issues from the sun. I allow some sun to get vitamin D but both of my parents have had several skin cancers and I am high risk.

If you work outdoors you can get acclimated to the weather if you are healthy, although I see people doing construction work and riding motorcycles wearing shorts. Nope, not me, clothes are protection. 90° weather is not that bad if you are used to it.

As for the bug zappers, they attract with light and can get moths, which are not a pest. They do make CO2 bug catchers which may attract mammal biting bugs (the theory is that is how they find you, through exhalations and also scents) such as [this monstrosity] (https://www.amazon.com/Mega-Catch-MCU-900-ULTRA-Mosquito-Trap/dp/B0051C0J7G/ref=cm_rdp_product) as well as [hand held repellers] (https://www.amazon.com/Thermacell-MR-LJ-Portable-Mosquito-Repeller-Black/dp/B01BGHU7R6/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1501416022&sr=8-3-fkmr2&keywords=handheld+butane+insect+repellent#customerReviews) which I recently learned about.

Edit: In response to your edit about bird mites, most of my bed bug bites were on my legs. My gf got bit everywhere. So don't use that as a determining factor in figuring out what you're dealing with.

Assuming they ARE bed bugs, then let me share some experience with you. We had them for probably half a year. Caused my gf and I an absolutely huge amount of stress. It's an embarrassing affliction which can make having company over or visiting others an absolute nightmare.

We did all of this to no avail:

  • Washed and extended dried all of our clothes/sheets/blankets
  • Put down diatomaceous earth
  • Sprayed neem oil all over
  • Had a professional come and spray our house twice
  • Bought bed-bug-proof covers for our mattress and all pillows.
  • GF tried putting down tea tree oil.

None of that seemed to make any difference. It may have helped though. Hard to say. At that point, we were still being bitten.
The only thing that seemed to work was PT Alpine Flea & Bed Bug spray. It was recommended to us by a family friend who, as a professional exterminator, had attended seminars specifically for bed bugs. We bought a few cans and sprayed everything down including around our bed and inside our recliners. The poison stays in place for a long time on the surfaces you spray it on so even if you miss some eggs or whatnot, as long as they have to crawl through it to get anywhere near you, they will die. So spray the bed frame and areas around where you stay quite thoroughly. We also changed our sheets every night (ugh).

They slowly started to disappear after that.

One thing that can help confirm is to get the cardboard sticky traps and put them near your bed. We found a couple big ones in it after a couple days which helps confirm them.

Can also get interceptors for your bed so they can't climb the bed posts.

    Other tips:

  • Spray out drawers/dressers and luggage bags.
  • If you stay at a seedy hotel/motel, put your luggage bags in the bathroom on the tile. This was recommended to me by an exterminator. We're pretty sure a shitty hotel was how we got ours in the first place.
  • They tend to congregate/live only where you spend a good amount of time. They look for CO2 from your breathing so typically they will hang out near your bed, recliners or couch in the living room, or anywhere a pet stays a lot of the time like a dog bed or similar.
  • If you have pets, make sure to keep them up-to-date on flea medication.
  • If you have gaps in your baseboard on the floor near your bed, I recommend spraying diatomaceous earth down into it just for extra help.

When I had tiny flying bug issues with my worm bin (indoors) I got some basic sticky tape like this from amazon and left it nearby overnight. By the morning it was pretty covered. Switched the peel off covering from one side to the other, used the opposite side the next day. Result: significantly less bugs. If this is going outside it's super important to not just set it on top a surface to save birds or bees from getting stuck.

Mosquitos are the worst! I really feel for you: I have tried everything I've ever heard of to keep them away, because bites swell up on me like crazy. I don't know if there is such a thing as being "allergic" to mosquito bites, but I am one of those individuals that reacts noticeably worse than most.

It's so bad that when my husband and I were on our honeymoon, we stayed on a tropical island and I got absolutely covered in bites including one on my eyelid!! When we went scuba diving, apparently the bites covering my legs looked even creepier underwater and fellow divers were asking me if I bumped into coral or had contracted some strange island disease.

The best I have come up with is to rub lavender essential oil on my body (literally slather it on exposed skin) at least it is the least objectionable of all the mosquito repellent "scents" and it's the most effective for keeping them off anytime I need to go outdoors for a dog walk/errand, anytime I'll be moving around but sharing mosquito airspace. Additionally, if I'm gonna be sitting out in their world, the Thermacell Mosquito Repellent device actually does work. I was given one as a gift, thought it was a gag; tried it for giggles, and: I bought refills and always bring that thing when I know I'll be hanging out in mosquito territory.

One last piece of advice: apply rubbing alcohol to heal your bites- instant relief!! Purell hand gel does the same thing: aaaaahhhhhh. Apply early and often and you'll ease the discomfort and swelling.

Proper mixture rate for Tenacity (generic...Meso 4 SC)

I am trying to figure out the best way to determine how much Tenacity to add to my tank sprayer for my yard. Between mixture ratio of tenacity per acre, my specific size yard, and my specific sprayer, I am not sure the ratio to use and how heavy to spray...i.e. how much should my sprayer cover?

The sprayer I am using is the Field King Professional...which holds 4 gallons, and sprays .25gpm.
