It's not pretty lol. We tried to zip tie everything together to make it at least understandable haha

EDIT: Hijacking this post since there are a LOT of common questions. Oh and /u/smilenataliew is the wife :)

FAQ:

>How did you connect everything to the TV/What adapters did you use?

NES through Gamecube (bottom 4): We have a 4-input composite switcher (those Yellow/Red/White cables) between the N64 and Gamecube, connected to our TV's 3.5mm composite port (which looks like a headphone jack), which we convert with cables like these. We do not recommend a composite to HDMI converter, as the output (might) look garbled from older systems (it did for us).

Wii: Component cables to HDMI converter, then into a remote controlled HDMI switcher (switcher and controller can both be seen to the left of Kirby Amiibo/the Wii)

WiiU & Switch: HDMI to the same HDMI switcher

>Don't the controllers just fall out when you open the case? How are they secured?

The NES controller is resting on a WiiU controller stand, oddly enough!
The SNES controller is the most finnicky. It's slightly leaning back on its own cords, but it's hard to get it to stay put.
The N64 controller is leaned against a stack of N64 games--it's definitely the system my wife and I have the most games for already!
The Gamecube controller is leaning against two other stacked gamecube controllers.
The Wii controller is just just leaning up against a thick piece of cardboard (more cardboard is also holding up the NES and SNES systems since the bottom of their doors would block view of the systems otherwise. My wife intends to wrap all cardboard with contact paper to make it all more decorative, she's very crafty!)
The WiiU has the same controllers as the Wii, except for the screen one, which is on a stand that actually charges the unit while it sits on top of the WiiU system!
The Switch controller actually stands on its own with the joy cons connected to them, but I've decided to actually show the charging station we bought with the joy cons connected to it so that they'll always be charged and ready to go!

>Where are the games?

Behind the controllers! In fact the N64 controller is leaning on a stack of them.

>Cable management? Do you have controller extenders?

Lots of zip ties in the back, and as for controller cables, we bought ~100 of those velcro straps for cords so we can wrap them up for neat display storage without wrapping the cords around the controllers. We also have extension cords for all corded controllers since the consoles don't exactly come out of the unit!

>Where can I get the display case?

It's a piece of furniture so it's a bit expensive, but it's definitely what we wanted after searching for a couple weeks! It's on Amazon

>You could have just emulated it all!

I love having and playing on the original consoles, but emulation is also awesome!

>Where's the Virtual Boy?

It doesn't connect to the TV so I didn't feel the need to get it for this project, but I DO want it for my collection! (Also kids should wait a bit before they play with a 3D device, even the 3DS)

>Where's Nintendo's even older console, the Color TV-Game?/Where's the 64DD?

Those were released Japan only, but I might still want to get them! I believe the controller and the console for Color TV-Game are both one unit, and space is limited, so it might be tough to integrate it if I want to get it!

>Where's the TV? CRT??

Mounted on the wall above the mantle. Sorry, no CRT...yet.

>PHOTOSHOPPED!/I swear I saw this before!

lol why would anyone photoshop this? Definitely real. I'll provide a few more images if I can. And definitely my setup! Though I'm sure I'm not the first to do something similar.

>lol fake niece

The niece and story are real, but if I'm being perfectly honest this is more for me than her haha

Yeah, what could go wrong? The Wii Mini sold so well!

Oh wait.

u/lazymangaka · 47 pointsr/nintendo

Since you've been away from Nintendo for a while now, I'd say buy the system now and play through the Wii catalog until the Wii U games start dropping in a few months. That gives you time to play through the two Wii Zelda games, the Mario Galaxies, Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime Corruption, and Donkey Kong Country Returns (at a minimum) before the wave of fall games arrives.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Super Mario Galaxy

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Super Paper Mario

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Donkey Kong Country Returns

There's even more awesome games to be had from the Wii's catalog, and they're all 100% compatible with the Wii U. Don't deny yourself these awesome games!

u/poland626 · 19 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Still waiting for Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii to come down in price. One of these days...

As for games I've actually waited a long time to play, the winner there is probably either Half Life 1 (played it for the first time this year) or maybe some old Atari games (played on one of those battery-powered hook-to-TV consoles maybe 7 years ago).

u/Gr8NonSequitur · 9 pointsr/gaming

Given how expensive MP Trilogy is now, it would be nice if they put stuff like that and [Fire Emblem: RD] ( http://www.amazon.com/Fire-Emblem-Radiant-Dawn-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B000U34SYQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370304685&sr=8-1&keywords=fire+emblem+wii ) on the download service, so people could play it at a reasonable price.

Haven't seen this posted, stumbled upon it on Amazon while searching for the PDP controllers. It looks a lot better than the PDP ones and I trust Hori a lot more than PDP. It says officially licensed by Nintendo as well.

Also has a Nov 21 release date listed, more evidence for that being the release date for smash bros?

u/Frencil · 8 pointsr/gaming

Available November 20th (Amazon link).

The suspense is killing me. I must play this game.

u/kitsovereign · 8 pointsr/Games

There are a few options right now - The Mayflash adapter lets you connect a GCN controller to a Wii remote and have it spoof a Classic Controller. Additionally, the PDP Wired Fight Pad and HORI Battle Pad are Classic Controllers, but modeled after the classic Gamecube controller shape.

There's always the chance that Nintendo will make the GCN adapter work for things other than SSB for Wii U, but I'm not sure I'd hold my breath. Honestly if they just made it work in Wii mode it'd be amazing.

Worthwhile games under $20

Wii U:

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Currently $20 on Amazon via third-party seller) - A solid action game with good online play.

Scribblenauts Unlimited ($17 on Amazon via third-party retailer, inc. shipping) and Unmasked ($18 on Amazon) - A fun little creative toy where you solve puzzles by creating... well, just about anything.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Currently $15 on Amazon) - A superb FPS, and the Wii U version is arguably the definitive console version of the game.

Batman: Arkham City: Armored Edition ($11 on BestBuy.com) - The definitive version of one of the best superhero games of all time.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 ($19 on Amazon) - A good fighting game.

Injustice: Gods Among Us ($14 on BestBuy.com) - A surprisingly good fighting game

Lego Marvel (Currently $20 on Amazon) - One of the better of the LEGO games, and the Wii U gamepad means that co-op play can be done with each player getting their own screen.

Assassin's Creed III (Currently $12 on Amazon via third-party seller, inc. shipping) and Black Flag ($19 on Amazon via third-party retailer, inc. shipping) - They're not really all that much better on the Wii U than other platforms, but if you don't have them yet these are decent entries in the series.

Resident Evil Revelations ($17 on BestBuy.com) - A decent entry in the series.

Wii:

Super Mario Galaxy ($20 on Amazon) - One of the best Mario games ever made, and generally considered to be one of the best videogames of all time.

Resident Evil 4 ($15 on Amazon) - One of the best survival horror games ever made.

Okami ($20 on Amazon) - A Zelda-style game with a beautiful calligraphy style.

Sin & Punishment: Star Successor ($18 on Amazon) - An action-packed shooter

Kirby's Epic Yarn ($14 on Amazon via third-party seller, inc. shipping) - It's so saccharine-cute it'll make your teeth rot, but if you can put up with that, it's an extremely inventive and fun platformer.

No More Heroes ($19 on Amazon) - A fun, very silly, violent action game.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion ($18 on Amazon) - Part surgery sim, part wicked hard arcade game.

De Blob ($18 on Amazon via third-party, inc. shipping) - A fun, inventive platformer where you bounce around to paint the scenery.

MadWorld ($11 on Amazon via third-party, inc. shipping) - A good, hyper-violent action game.

Wii U Nintendo eShop:

Shovel Knight - Old-school platformer goodness, designed like someone took the best parts of your favorite NES games and mashed them all together.

Art of Balance - A puzzle game that has you stacking blocks. It's really well-made.

Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition - A truly excellent Metroidvania-style game with a killer fighting engine and a fun, silly luchador theme. If you don't already have this on another platform, you need to get it.

Trine 2: Director's Cut - An excellent platform/puzzle game, and the Wii U version is arguably the best because the touchscreen is integrated very well.

WiiWare:

World of Goo - A superb puzzle game where you must construct various structures to get your goo to the exit.

Lost Winds 1 & 2 - Very good platformers that make good use of the Wii remote to make the gameplay interesting.

Bomberman Blast - 8-player online Bomberman. Aww yisssss.

Wii U Virtual Console - Too many good old-school games to list.

Wii Virtual Console - Tons and tons of good old-school games. It's not quite as convenient as the Wii U virtual console, because you have to go into Wii mode to play them and you can't play them with the Wii U gamepad, but the selection on the Wii's Virtual Console is far, far better than on the Wii U, and at the rate Nintendo is adding games to the Wii U Virtual Console, it looks like it'll probably stay that way for a long time. Keep in mind that if Nintendo adds a game to the Wii U Virtual Console that you already have on the Wii Virtual Console, they'll give you a discount on it to entice you to upgrade, so don't hold off just because you're hoping the game you want will come to the Wii U Virtual Console if it's already on the Wii Virtual Console.

Edit: Well, damn. Today Nintendo announced what is kinda' a game-changer - they're releasing Wii games directly for download on the Wii U's eShop for $20 each ($10 each on the week they're first released). The first game, Super Mario Galaxy 2, is out now, and the next two games will be Metroid Prime Trilogy and Punch-Out!!

All three of those games are extremely good, and have been selling for far more than the asking price (Metroid Prime Trilogy was $60-100 used before this news). If you're looking for cheap Wii U games and never got these titles on the Wii, Nintendo has just dropped the gauntlet with a deal you can't refuse.

http://www.amazon.com/Legend-Zelda-Skyward-Remote-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B002I0GEHI

Its only single player so you really only need 1 motion plus controller, and this pack gets you the nifty Zelda controller and the game. In Australia, its actually cheaper to buy the limited ed pack than getting a motion plus controller and the game. (I think.)

u/IOnceWasLegend · 6 pointsr/woweconomy

I made a decent side income when I was in grad school flipping video games and gaming accessories. I knew a few pawn shops close to my house that had flat rates on DS/3DS/retro games, and steeply discounted rates on accessories/non-current-gen systems. A few examples:

$10 for a new, sealed GameCube controller from 2002-ish (before they released new GC controllers with Smash for Wii U); sold for over $100 on eBay

$7 for a Skyward Sword wiimote; sold for $80.

$18 total for two complete copies of Pokemon: Heart Gold and one complete copy of Pokemon: Soul Silver (sold each for $55).

$8 total for complete copies of Mario Party 4, 5, 6, and 7; sold each for $25-40.

u/a8vision · 5 pointsr/wiiu

The Sensor bar doesn't send any info to the Wii/Wii U, it's just a couple of infrared lights. If you can't find a 'wireless' one maybe this USB one will work for you, the reviews indicate you can just plug it into any USB port on your TV / nearby device / USB -> AC plug. http://www.amazon.com/Nextronics-Sensor-Bar-USB-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B001UAAX60

  • 1x Wiimote+ and Nunchuk is 25$. Works with virtually all Wii U and Wii games. Some games require it, ie nintendoland. Get two if you want to play wii multiplayer games.
  • 1x Wii U Pro Controller, can only be used for Wii U games. Costs about 40~45$.
  • Wii classic pro, used for wii virtual console (ie N64/snes) games. Plugs into wii remote.

Basically if you got one wii remote (or wii u pro controller) you would be fine for all Wii U games, including multiplayer ones. Additional controllers may be bought if you are interested in MP wii games, or wii vc.
u/CedarMadness · 5 pointsr/Games

Wii Classic Controller (or the Classic Controller Pro, which I haven't used, but it looks more comfortable.) with one of these adapters. It plugs the classic controller directly in to USB, so no wiimote, bluetooth, glovePIE, etc is required. It even supports 2 controllers at once so you can co-op some Battletoads without having 2 adapters.

u/Idoiocracy · 5 pointsr/wiiu

This thread convinced me to pick up the game. It's priced at $15 at Amazon.

u/Allan_add_username · 5 pointsr/wiiu

I would recommend getting the Japanese one off amazon. It works perfectly on all Wii U's and the price tends to drop more often than the American one. (provided you're in America) It was on there a couple weeks ago for 38 bucks.

Those cheap wii2hdmi converters are crap. I use a Portholic wii2hdmi and I absolutely love it. It is universally considered one of the best brands for wii2hdmi.

Omg this contest is SO FUN!! Okay, I've recorded you TWO WHOLE SONGS!!

The first, since I play ocarina, is from Legend of Zelda. Song of Healing, for your listening pleasure. EDIT: I have no idea why this came out so choppy. YouTube is mean. ;~;

The second...well. Just watch it.

I'm sorry my webcam/mic are icky. It picks up a lot of the breathy noise from the ocarina that you can't hear as much in person, but it's the best recording I could get.

As for my favorite game? It changes sooo often. I'm terrible at picking "favorite" things, be it movies or games or music or whatever. For now, I'll go with Skyward Sword. All the Zelda games have stolen my heart, and it's so hard to pick just one, but I think I'm gonna say SS because of all the origin and backstory it brought us.

Thanks for the awesome contest! I'm so curious about the goodies that'll be in the prize box!! XD

u/SGT3386 · 4 pointsr/wiiu

Would it just make sense to use the Classic Controller Pro? I cant justify buying a controller for a single purpose. I hope it is compatible.

u/brightblueinky · 4 pointsr/wiiu

I'm not sure, since it wasn't mine (or hers, a friend of theirs let her borrow it). I think it was this one, though. http://www.amazon.com/PDP-Wired-Fight-Pad-nintendo-u/dp/B00LSBNSAO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417195996&sr=8-1&keywords=yoshi+gamecube+controller

I guess it's technically a Pro controller shaped like a Gamecube controller, but it seemed to work pretty well.

For Wii, you can find decent adapters for less than $20 from Amazon. I did. This one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0753CZ8MC

GameCube? Those are rarer and a lot more expensive. The cheapest is the Carby v2, which costs $75. I just got one. https://insurrectionindustries.com/product/carby-v2/
This only works on a DOL-001 console.

>What is the best place to buy a Wii U?

Wherever has the bundle you want and price you want!

>Can I connect it to an Asus monitor and Creative T20 speakers?

You'll need to make sure you have your audio set up properly - depends on the input your speakers require. If they need traditional stereo input you can buy a wii component cable and set the Wii U to ouput sound through there in the settings. If your monitor accepts an HDMI audio signal and has an audio out of some kind, you should be fine. You may need an HDMI audio splitter (which I'm not familiar with, but gets recommend a lot).

>Are there any new bundles coming out this christmas or after?

They will likely be created by retailers, not official bundles from Nintendo. Things like buy this Wii U and get an eshop card.

>Will prices drop after christmas?

Hard to tell, but retailers may have sales.

u/Yung-Fern · 3 pointsr/FireEmblemHeroes

Considering the games came out at the end of the consoles lifespans and have limited copies, the prices are sky high. Radiant Dawn / Path of Radiance. I actually have ISO's of both of them, tried running path of radiance on my softmodded Wii and it freezes up after every chapter so I have to reboot and reload the game every time I want to progress to the next chapter. Kinda put me off of playing it although I really liked what I did play.

u/TheBlooper · 3 pointsr/Gamecube

You can use a Wii classic controller, not a classic NES controller, unless I misread or missed something.

u/metroidgus · 3 pointsr/wiiu

you can also try a classic controller since you already have a wiimote

u/Rickrogue · 3 pointsr/wiiu

You can find these titles much cheaper through a retailer. Amazon currently has Zombie U for $19.23.

u/wehopeuchoke · 3 pointsr/wiiu

Let's just use amazon prices:

Wii U Deluxe w/ NSMBU & NSLU - $293.87

Wii U Pro COntroller - $40.99

Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition - $15.99

Assassin's Creed 4 - $25.49

Madden 13 - $11.99

Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD - $41.40

Super Mario 3D World - $50.66

Assassin's Creed 3 - $14.61

007 Legends - $9.95

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - $43.99

Black Ops 2 $12.49

ZombiU - $14.99

That brings us to a total of $576.42.

He could have bought the games on discount from Toys R Us which has many discounted games plus buy one get one 60% off.

Also could have gotten the buy 2 get 1 free at Target a week ago. YOu could also price match that sale, all though many stores were hesitant to do that.

You can get a white one for $40 from Japan. I was also able to order it with free shipping and it came in just a week.
Don't be fooled by the $20 ones from China, though. Always look at reviews, they're most likely fakes. The one I got works excellent, though. Even on an American Wii U.

u/WorkplaceWatcher · 3 pointsr/Games

Yup, I thought it was weird too - IIRC, the Wii Mini didn't sell too well. It originally retailed for $99 if memory serves.

u/Reynard_Austin · 3 pointsr/patientgamers

Dualshock 3 (With better DS3) is a good choice.

XBox One and XBox 360 Wired controllers work through USB with appropriate drivers straight from Microsoft.

This adapter with a Wii Classic Pro controller works well too (although Wii classics have gotten expensive.) Also works with this GC controller replica (and this one too.) Both of those are from reputable companies (Hori and PDP respectively.) There is a lot of demand for this stuff since Smash came out, so if this is your choice, I'd wait until after the holidays.

The XBox or DS3 controllers are better for modern games, but I absolutely stand by the Classic/Gamecube controllers for classic games and emulation.

These were only a few dollars more with free prime 2 day shipping. I'm convinced they are real pro controllers, one of them even has the slight remains of a polished off Nintendo logo. Idk what their deal is but they work great and I have only charged them once since I got them a few months ago.

u/your-opinions-false · 2 pointsr/crtgaming

With Wii you should buy some Wii component cables for like $6, then using those, go into your Wii's settings and set your resolution to 480p. Play this on your HD TV - component cables in 480p look much better than the yellow composite cable that comes with the system. You should also play your GameCube games on your Wii to take advantage of its component cables. Note that GameCube games will not automatically play in 480p, so you'll need to hold B when starting up a GameCube game and "activate progressive scan."

N64 games are a bit more complicated. There's no cheap way to play them well on an HD TV, so if you think it's worth it you might look on Craigslist for a CRT TV. Try to find perhaps a Sony "Trinitron" flat screen TV that isn't an HD CRT TV. You'll also want to find an s-video cable for N64 if your CRT TV supports it. S-video gives a better picture than composite.

u/Sound_of_Science · 2 pointsr/smashbros

I think it still depends on the LCD. Game Mode generally just cuts out all the extra post-processing things the TV normally does to the image right before it displays it, so it helps the lag tremendously.

The next biggest improvement you could make to an LCD is to use component cables instead of the composite cables included with the Wii. Component cables transmit data much faster to HDTVs, while CRTs can usually only work with composite cables. If I am remembering correctly, component cables transmit a digital signal while a composite cable transmits an analog signal.

Furthermore, composite cables (and CRT TVs) cannot send a higher resolution than 480i. Component cables can send 480p up to 1080p (i = interlacing; p = progressive). Using a component cable with an LCD in 480p is optimal.

I can't quite remember as much detail as I would like, but I'm just regurgitating everything I learned from this page: http://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/wiki/lag

That's a fantastic article, and I recommend you read it as soon as you get the chance.

4x Wii/Gamecube Extension Cables https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001AI7CF2/

u/CJtheWriter · 2 pointsr/AnimalCrossing

I don't what kind of controller you're using but these extension cables are really convenient and cheap for the kind of setup you have. I hate putting my consoles on the floor, so I've been using them.

Good to see some Gamecube love here.

u/mdrew86 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I own a Pro Controller, several OEM Gamecube controllers (i.e., Wavebird wireless), as well as the new Smash Gamecube controller, so I suppose my feedback holds some weight here. I love my Pro controller and use it for just about everything, except for games which require a Joycon such as Mario Party and Pokemon. Since my TV is pretty far from my couch, having the wireless capability is an obvious plus. The same holds true for the OEM Wavebird wireless controllers I own. The new Smash Gamecube controller, in my opinion, feels identical to the original Gamecube controller. I am not overly-analytical when it comes to this stuff, but I can't feel the difference whatsoever. The thumbsticks are tight, and the buttons have a satisfying feel. There is zero input lag which is important for fighting games (my Pro controller sometimes experiences interference from various Wi-fi/Bluetooth devices in the room). My only gripe is that there isn't a home or capture button, so you will need a second controller connected for those functions. If you are like me and sit very far from the TV, you will need an extension cable. I purchased these and they work great- zero input lag.

tldr; the Smash GC controller is great, worth the money

u/Alseho · 2 pointsr/Gamecube

You can get some of the extension cords for the gamecube controllers, splice the end that receives the gamecucbe controller plug, and BOOM! New plug for the controller. All you got to do is replace the old one and put in the new one. You can get different colored ones, to fit your controller, or leave them mismatching to make them stand out as yours.

u/qchto · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

For the GC Controllers I use an unofficial adapter for WiiU which is directly recognized by Dolphin (I have never need to change it from WiiU mode, so an official one should work too). But of course, this is PC, so as long as there is a way to recognize the input from a port, you can get it working eventually (as has been the case since time immemorial).

For the Wiimotes, a USB bluetooth 4.0 dongle is more than enough as long as you let it interface directly with the emulator through continual scanning (once synced everything works, speaker included). Also, for the sensor bar I use an old wireless baterry powered one with rechargable AAA batteries, but if I were looking for one now I'd get a USB powered one.

Oh, and btw, that same bt dongle can also support DS4 / DS3 / Ouya / generic controllers connected to it at the same time as the Wiimotes, so it's definitelly worth the $10 (I didn't include newer Xbox controllers for the simple fact I've never tried them over bluetooth, but they should work too).

u/machingunwhhore · 2 pointsr/Roms

I was poking around for quite sometime on dolphins compatibility page trying to find a dongle that was all green and in stock. A lot of what's on their listed seems to be out of stock, or just not a viable option. (Didn't wanna screw with the PCIe bluetooth card and there is little info online for the original Wii bluetooth adapter). I eventually settled on the UGREEN dongle and the USB Sensor Bar, both of which are known compatible devices with dolphin.

After setting up the devices I can say that I am very satisfied with both products. All I need to do to pair my wiimotes is simply press the red sync button on the bottom of the controller when dolphin is open and it's paired in a few seconds.

There are a few things to note with this setup though.

  1. Keep in mind that with USB sensor bars you will need to unplug them when you aren't using them. The Wii sensor bar is designed to turn off when the Wii is off to avoid burning out the infrared leds. (I tried setting my computer up to turn off the USBs when the PC is off but I couldn't get it figured out for the life of me)
  2. The included instructions for the USB dongle that I linked are garbage. It comes with a CD for drivers (but it's 2019, and my SFF build doesn't know what CD is), but the website in the manual is NOT the correct place to find the drivers. After a bit of research, I finally found the correct driver for the adapter. Once it's plugged in, just follow dolphins passthrough instructions and you're off! And for under $20, prime eligible too!

For you: treat yourself to some Wii-y goodness. Play Super Paper Mario and Skyward Sword. This goes over by almost a pound, so this may disqualify me. Worth it, though.

If I win, I think I'd like West Side Story for my wife.

Thanks for the contest!

I'll say you should get Skyward Sword! Very highly acclaimed game, I really want to play it myself. I hear it's good for fans and newbies to the Zelda series such as myself alike.

And for me, Dollhouse! I absolutely adored this series when it was on, but haven't seen it since. I'm generally a fan of getting my favorite TV series on DVD, I like marathonning them while in bed.

Wii Classic Controller Pro with an adapter is the best by far.

u/KurriZSS · 2 pointsr/sm4sh

Typically no. Especially for larger tournies, wireless controllers pose as a logistical issue. You may be able to get away with one at a local with below 50 attendees, but once you go larger than that, you'll have a hard time finding TOs that'll allow them.

IMO, you're better off with a GameCube Controller:

White GC Controller

Black GC Controller

GC Adapter

(Note: There's no difference between the colors, just take your pick)

Course, if for some reason you still want wireless:

I just don't understand why it's so expensive already. It seems really early for it to be collectible.

So far I've only played Xenoblade on the gamepad. All Wii games still use the Wiimote. None will let me use the WiiU gamepad. I'm currently using the original classic controller.

Nope it's a bit more complex than that.

List of "Classic" controllers:

u/andraes · 2 pointsr/wiiu

You're getting the classic confused with the GameCube controller here. GameCube Controllers with the adapter can only be used for Smash. Classic Controllers (also 3rd party ones like PDP Fight Pad) plug into the bottom of wii remotes (in place of the nunchuck) and can be used with most Wii and Wii U games.

Also, check out the Controller Infographic link on the side bar.

Currently flipping through Amazon, Brawl is $29, Mario Kart Wii is $39, Galaxy is $44, Skyward Sword is $40, Wii Sports Resort is $34... where are you buying your games? I mean, yeah, they aren't a hard $60 anymore, but these games are old. All of these should be well under $20 by now.

u/DoubleJumps · 2 pointsr/Games

Ebay and amazon. You can buy it brand new for $20 on amazon where the base msrp is 19.99. Gamestop is not the end all metric for the secondhand market's pricing. It should never be considered as such.

Why don't you just buy a Wii? I don't think it looks any better on Wii U, I don't think that's how it works.

Get a [used Wii mini] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00AJZNUUI/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used) & Prime 3's dirt cheap. Then just sell everything when you're done.

u/ReneOv · 2 pointsr/wiiu

The reply below is misleading, and in fact those controllers do exist and are official Nintendo products. They function as Classic Controllers. Here are some Amazon links:

Hori Battle Pad (I personally like this one better.)

PDP Fight Pad

u/ShiKage · 2 pointsr/3DS

Actually, I think the best place to import a Japanese 3DS would be Amazon. They have them much cheaper than anyone else and it's fulfilled by Amazon, so that means they already have some imported to their warehouses and just have to send them domestically.

The regular size New 3DS would be $170 USD on Amazon including tax, with quicker shipping, while on the other hand, it would be $160+Shipping from China from Play-Asia.

In the end, you'll be paying around the same amount, but the shipping speeds is where Amazon wins. You'll be waiting a while for the Play-Asia order for sure.

u/bosslickspittle · 2 pointsr/wii

I use this controller because it feels like the Gamecube controller, but it connects to a Wii remote so it is sort of wireless. Plus I think I paid about $15 for it at a Gamestop, new in box. I also have a Princess Peach themed one.

Edit: This is read as a Classic Controller, so any game that lets you play with the classic controller should work with these.

u/corbin74 · 2 pointsr/WiiUHacks

Here's what I use and I don't think it's that expensive:

u/billybobiswatching · 2 pointsr/wii

I believe the Wii Family Edition isn't compatible with GCN controllers. For a Wii that has GCN compatibility the Wii would have ports on the top of the console (along with 2 memory card slots) you just have to open up the top. The best I can suggest you to do is to get another Wii Remote on a site like eBay (around the 10 dollar price range for an official one) and a PDP Fight Pad or a Hori Battle Pad (which are basically Classic Controllers that are like Nintendo GameCube controllers, you plug them up to the Wii Remote like the Nun-Chuck or a regular Wii Classic Controller.)

u/natoshi · 2 pointsr/zelda

The company PDP actually did make updated GameCube controllers with the extra shoulder button and the plus and minus buttons but if I'm not mistaken, it only worked when plugged into a Wii remote.

My personal setup:

u/alpha5099 · 2 pointsr/wiiu

What's my best option for a Pro Controller? I've been playing Xenoblade Chronicles X as my first Wii U game, and I've found the Gamepad a bit uncomfortable. I bought this third party Pro Controller off Amazon, but I could tell right away I needed to return it: the left analog stick wasn't registering inputs properly, it only registered being fully pressed in any direction at diagonals. I could take another shot at this controller (it certainly seems to be working for some people, based on the reviews), but I was wondering if there were other good options?

But careful with some brands, I recommend these:

u/TheManWithNoLegs · 2 pointsr/wii

I actually have a wii2hdmi converter, it’s just upscaled. Either way the quality is pretty solid and I like just having HDMI cords to deal with instead of juggling between proprietary cables or even monster cables.

u/VirtualAlex · 2 pointsr/Gamecube
u/_Robbie_ · 2 pointsr/pics

I don't know if you're familiar with it or would have any interest in it, but I use a Wii to HDMI converter from amazon. There is a surprisingly noticeable difference in picture quality.

Originally I used an RCA to cable converter, then I switched to an RCA to HDMI converter, but the one that I linked is nice because it cuts out the need for an extra power cord and improves picture quality at the same time. There are plenty of options and brands to choose from, I just went with the one that had solid reviews, and it has been great since I purchased it.

u/mistakenotmy · 1 pointr/techsupport

Most of the time VGA inputs on projectors will also do component video as well. So some simple cable adaptors will work.

First you need to output from the Wii component video. So get something like this if you don't already have one: https://www.amazon.com/Component-AV-Cable-Nintendo-Wii-HDTV/dp/B000OFSBL6/ (no idea if this one is good, just an example)

Then you need to change that to VGA. So a 3RCA Female to VGA adaptor like: https://www.amazon.com/CableWholesale-Component-Video-Adapter-30H1-50200/dp/B00JMC9CLK (again just an example) Just be careful to get a RCA female or you will also need to get RCA couplers because both ends (Wii and adaptor) will be male.

u/kolarbear · 1 pointr/wiiu

Hey guys, noob question here. Long story short, I need to know if Wii HD component cables would work for the wii u? The rest of this comment is background to the problem I am trying to solve.

I am trying to connect my wii u to my television and soundbar separately. Currently, I am using the HDMI cord to connect the wii u to the tv, and then an RCA audio output cord to connect the tv to the soundbar. For the most part, this setup works fine, EXCEPT for netflix. For some reason, I get scratchy audio output from wii u's netflix app when it is connected to my television. When I just watch on the gamepad, though, the sound/video quality on netflix are fine, which leads me to believe that my television is screwing with the netflix audio signal. This now leads me to my question.

On the back of the wii u, there is a video out port, right? Has anyone tried purchasing original wii HD cables and hooking it up to their television? Here is a link to what I was thinking of getting:

http://www.amazon.com/Component-AV-Cable-Nintendo-Wii-HDTV/dp/B000OFSBL6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406827513&sr=8-1&keywords=wii+hd+cables

My plan would be to stream the video to the television, and then purchase an HDMI to RCA converter to send the audio directly from the wii u to the soundbar, which would hopefully end the problem.

Anyways, would a cable as the one I posted in the amazon link work for this? I appreciate any insight into the problem, thank you!

u/ApatheticToaster · 1 pointr/SSBM

The most common high quality capture card you can use would be the the Elgato Game Capture HD. You would want 2 component cables, at least 5 splitters, and a component connection to a Wii. There is free software called OBS that you can use to stream and record and there are a number of options if you are looking to just record (there is even software that Elgato offers) but most like to use VirtualDub. This of course can be very expensive. If you are looking for cheaper options there are cheaper capture cards available such as the Dazzle and the Diamond. Both work fine but you won't achieve as crisp as a picture. These are the cards that I have had experience with but I have also heard good things from the Avermedia.

u/DrShafty · 1 pointr/wii

I am fortunate enough to obtained Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance when they released. I love Path of Radiance, but I think $150+ for a used disk without the case is a bit over priced. Radiant Dawn seems to be more reasonably priced at $60, but still seems a bit much for a 10 year old Wii game.

You can get USB wiimote bars now. No need to buy a wii just for the sensor

u/ThisDudeIsRad · 1 pointr/DolphinEmulator

Hopefully I'm not too late.

They have USB powered Wii Sensor bars on Amazon. I have this one plugged into the usb port on my TV and it works as good or better than my original bar.

Nextronics Sensor Bar USB https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001UAAX60?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

u/Rubular · 1 pointr/DolphinEmulator

It's entirely possible. You just use a Wii sensor bar, like you would on a Wii. You can buy USB ones like this online for $10-20.

u/Bspammer · 1 pointr/GameDeals

Sensor bar is literally just two infrared lights that the wiimote uses internally to track its position, it doesn't do any processing itself. You can either just use two infrared LEDs or (more realistically) buy a usb sensor bar (e.g. here https://www.amazon.com/Nextronics-Sensor-Bar-USB-Wii-Nintendo/dp/B001UAAX60).

Also, if the game doesn't require pointing (mario galaxy actually falls into this category if you don't mind not being able to collect starbits or play some of the motion-control minigames) you can actually just play without a sensor bar by mapping buttons to spin etc.

u/lewzerkid · 1 pointr/Games

I'm fairly certain this is the one I bought. I believe mine came with an AC adapter even though it didn't say it back when I ordered it. They're easy to find, though.

u/Oangusa · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

You can connect a wiimote to an emulator such as dolphin (the best wii emulator out there) via bluetooth. You might need to upgrade your bluetooth software so that it can discover wiimotes. I use the Toshiba bluetooth Stack(though I had to use other search means to find a version that worked on non-toshiba computers). Once it's discovered you can add it to the emulator and it will read all of the button presses. I think for it to read motion you need to buy a computer infrared sensor bar like what the wii has.

You can read more on how to set up the dolphin emulator on that first link I gave you.

My favorite gaming memory is probably my first D&D campaign. It's not a kid game, but you said tabletop counts! It was just a really fun experience learning about this whole new gaming world--I'd never played tabletop games before of any kind. I think I made a bard, and I ended up being super useful in this campaign because we needed to suck up to a lot of people. My bard spent like 90% of every day singing and trying to convince NPCs to do stuff, and it was fun to be useful.

I'm still a kid at heart!

There aren't many games on my WL as most games we want are super expensive, but Super Mario Galaxy would be great, or this Gloom game looks pretty fun. Or Wii Music, my brother kept my copy when I moved. In summary, surprise me out of these options if I win because these are the only games on my list (I made it easy, no searching!).

u/ptmd · 1 pointr/AskSocialScience

These are interesting examples, but,

The MPAA, I see as an evaluating organization instead of a regulating organization. It doesn't maintain nor demand any quality of the product, nor does it maintain nor demand any guidelines for safety. In that regard, it is more of a tool like Metacritic.com or the Blue Book, in that it serves primarily to inform the consumer rather than regulate movies.

Even as it does so, IIRC, films have to pay a fee to get their film rated, and can easily opt out, if they aren't part of affiliated major movie-making studios, Furthermore, their standards are not open to the public or anyone outside the organization.

Pretty much I see it as the equivalent of a "Nintendo Select Games"

As for your second example, from the wiki, since I've never heard of it, "UL is one of several companies approved for such testing by the U.S. federal agency Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)"

> You don't need the same users and beyond a certain point additional reviews have diminishing returns on their accuracy - so as long as there are 'a lot' it won't affect the accuracy by any significant amount.

Even with just upthumbs and downthumbs, getting any sort of accuracy out of your numbers takes many hundreds of votes. Something with a upvote:downvote ratio of 265:7 realistically speaking could have a "real" upvote percentage of anywhere between 94.79% and 98.76%. That may not sound like a big range, but you'll find that if you want to rank products by rating, this is a huge problem, because a lot of things will end up with very similar ratings.

Even something like 475:20 only gives you a range of 97.38% to 93.85%.

Note that this gets worse the more votes of the less common type you get; something with like 200:100 upvotes:downvotes has a real range of 61.28% to 71.89% upvotes.

With a numerical range, you're adding in both additional inaccuracy due to people not using the scale the same way, and additional inaccuracy because you have a broader scale. You're increasing your error, which is going to decrease your accuracy.

A lot of products are not going to get that many votes; Super Mario Galaxy, for instance, was a pretty popular Wii game. It has 623 reviews.

  1. Playstation 4 Controller My secret Santa got me a Sony Blu-Ray player for the Christmas exchange. With a PS 4 Controller I can access hundreds of PS 3 games to play.

  2. Rise of the Tomb Raider for Xbox 360. I am a huge Tomb Raider fan. My current PC can't run the most recent game but I do have a Xbox 360.

  3. Skylanders Trap Team: Kaos Trap. I am a big fan of Skylanders. The Kaos Trap is the last trap I need. Still need the [Light Expansion] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QU506JY/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2U7TJSOOKGSUC&coliid=I10SQW2SJNJLYI) $70 and Dark Expansion $90 but those are way to expensive.

  4. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii. I have the older Wii system and I love the Mario and Zelda games. This one is high on my wish list but just to expensive for me currently.

  5. Light Blue Yarn Yoshi Amiibo. I don't have a Wii U or the game but this Yarn Yoshi is just so cute and adorable. You can't just say no to such cuteness. I want one for my collection.

You're not going to find it online for around $20. Especially in Canada. Lowest price on Amazon is $58.00 + $4.99 Shipping

u/TheRodofGod · 1 pointr/gameswap

The issue is, the PS3 camera used is being valued at $13 tops. Bowsers is hitting at $15. Skyward Sword is still rocking a $30 value.

If your not interested in a two for 1, I would be good with a Camera for spirit tracks deal.

u/thegamerpad · 1 pointr/wiiu

Zombie U - $14.99 (has been as low as $9.99 before at Best Buy)

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge - $16.95

Wonderful 101 - $23.59

Pikmin 3 Digital Code - $15 - $25

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - $14.95

Tekken Tag Tournament - $19.99

That right there will put you at about $105. You can really only find Pikmin 3 cheap by looking on eBay for those selling the free codes that came from Mario Kart 8. DKC is still generally full MSRP and I don't think I've ever seen Lego City Under Cover cheaper than $30 new. I know I've seen some of these listed games on sale for $9.99 new before (Ninja Gaiden, Tekken Tag, COD:Blops 2, Zombi U) and for sure I've seen them used at that price through GameFly (case, manual and discs usually come in excellent condition) Hope this helps

Oh yeah and Best Buy price matches Amazon (I believe Wal-mart does too) so you could go to a store, or order online (will require some customer service help) and price match the items so you can grab them from the same store.

I have both the Mayflash Adapter and the PDP Fight Pad

If you already have the GCN controller, the adapter works well enough, specially if you want it for VC games. Every once on a while, The adapter disconnects mid gameplay for a few secs, so that can be bothersome, I used it with a pc like you intend to, works just fine. The downside is you have less buttons than the classic controller (no select/- and only 3 shoulder buttons) and the L and R are recognized as such instead of ZL/ZR which can be confusing in some instances.

The PDP Fight pad works beautifully, has all the buttons and the right analog stick is actually a stick as opposed to the shorter c-stick. The one downside is the controller feels kinda empty, which makes it feel cheap (kinda like the classic controller or those awful gamestop branded GNN controllers), but it only feels cheap cos they are very responsive.

I would recommend the fight pad over the gcn adapter, unless you absolutely positively need the original gcn controller. Havnet used the hori pads, they have turbo built in but as far as i know are pretty similar to the pdp pads.

u/shaydwight · 1 pointr/nintendo

u/My_Hero_Zer0 · 1 pointr/smashbros

u/dmckean44 · 1 pointr/AlienwareAlpha

As far as controllers go I think most people would be better off buying one of these three adapters:

http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-nintendo-u/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=pd_bxgy_vg_text_y

and real Nintendo branded Gamecube controllers like these:

http://www.amazon.com/Super-Edition-GameCube-Controller-Wii-U/dp/B00L3LQ4B4/ref=pd_bxgy_vg_img_y
or
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017KIBAI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The reason I recommend this is because the latest development builds of Dolphin have native controller support built in. This means you can just setup the adapter to work with Dolphin and then plug in your Gamecube controllers and you're ready to go with no additional setup. The controllers auto calibrate just like on a real console and you can even unplug controllers and plug them back in during gameplay and everything will still work. It's works really awesome.

u/Vid-szhite · 1 pointr/smashbros

I've used all manner of adapters at tournies, and I can't tell the difference. My own is a Kelux adapter, came in a generic purple box, and it's perfect. Better looking than Mayflash, at least. Cheaper too.

u/Goldensunboy · 1 pointr/Steam

I bought a Gamecube controller adapter off Amazon (link) and have it connected in "PC" mode. It registers as 4 GameCube Controller Adapter (regardless of controllers being plugged in) and it seems to work as input. The four logical controllers show up under Big Picture > Settings > Controller Settings, but in Steam, it doesn't appear to behave the same way as, say, my Wii U Pro controller. When I click the Wii U Pro controller, it shows options for preferences, identify, calibrate, and layout. However, when I click one of the GC controllers, it immediately takes me to layout, and although I can change the button assignments, the only options are "cancel" and "clear and exit". Backing out of this screen resets the button assignments, and the controller does not seem usable in my games under Manage Game > Controller Configuration (when the Wii U Pro controller is not connected, it says no controller is connected, even though the GC controllers are showing in global settings).

How can I make the GC controller usable?

I just wanted to bring an update back - After reading here, I bought two of those controllers - https://www.amazon.com/PowerLead-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Wii-Bluetooth/dp/B00SN1QEGW/ - and while they seem to be pretty good fit and finish, I DO find they do have a VERY slight delay to them. A delay that I do -not- experience with the big game tablet that comes with the system.

I can give a for-example. I am currently playing Ducktales (Fantastic, if you've not tried it, duplicate of the original I played as a kid) -- I was playing the Himalayas level and there's one section where you have to jump from rope to rope... It's a point where you let go of the rope, move right, then instantly press up. This controller would -not- do it. I died about 4x and thought it must not be receiving my UP fast enough to grab that rope... But sure enough, I set down the knock off controller and would you look at that, nailed it first try through all of the ropes with zero issues.

Now mind you -- I played the entire level with the other controller without any issue so this delay is VERY small. Quite possibly my button presses being advanced by myself without even really noticing, but sure enough, this section I could -not- do without the big game tablet-controller. I'm curious if it's just a cheaper bluetooth chipset they used in them, or if the Pro controller would suffer the same. I expect it would not, as it's not a bluetooth speed issue overall, the gamepad thingie is still wireless too.

I suppose anyone could test it for themselves - start a two player game with a jump in it, and press both of the buttons at the same time and see?

I ordered this one

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SN1QEGW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've had no problems with it, battery life doesn't seem as long as an actual Pro Controller but it should be 10+ hours on a single charge.

u/fm79 · 1 pointr/RetroPie

Bought 3 of these and they all sync up and connect right out of the box no problem. They are $20 clone Wii U Pro Controllers.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SN1QEGW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also have a SNES30 that syncs up fine... Opened the box, updated firmware from my PC, synced it up with pi... no issues... I'm about as pi noob as it gets, and I was able to get 4 controllers synced up with no problems and play 4 person super bomberman with my wife and kids.

Maybe your SNES30 is just a bad one...

I do like those Wii U pro controller clones though. They are nice.

We're talking about Shovel Knight here, which is available at normal retail price on Amazon at this very moment.

Nintendo had supply issues (partly because they were making like 100 different figures) but Yacht Club doesn't seem to be having the same problem. In fact, they specifically delayed the amiibo's release until after the holiday season to ensure that they would have enough stock.

The reason why amiibo have become significantly more commonplace now is because Nintendo ramped up production on them to meet demand. I know Shovel Knight isn't going to be anywhere near as popular as some of Nintendo's franchises, but even Yacht Club Games had to have known that having only around a dozen of these things available per store wasn't going to be enough. It's not like these guys haven't made merch of their game or anything before.

Oh, and pre-orders for the amiibo went up on Amazon last night. As of this writing, they're listed as Currently Unavailable.

So what's the point of listing an item as "Prime" if it's not in stock, not fulfilled by Amazon, and/or not actually 2 day shipping?

Over the last month or two I've had all those things occur:

An item would ship to me in 2 days, but wasn't expected back in stock for 2 or 3 more days. Yet it was one of the top recommended items for my search.

Another was sold and shipped by a 3rd party, but was still listed as Prime and had 2 day delivery. I personally preferred fulfilled by Amazon if not sold by too as I'm not having to deal with a 3rd party if there are issues.

On Wednesday I ordered this adapter so my kid can hook up our old Wii via HDMI. Shows as qualifying for Prime, however it noted at the time:

>FREE Delivery Thursday, Aug. 15 - Thursday, Aug. 22 Details
>
>Extended delivery time: To offer this low-priced item and a variety of such products, this item ships via ground.

As of this morning, it still hasn't shipped. I can't remember the last time I had a package that traveled by air, at least informally based on tracking checkpoints.

IOW, lately I just feel bamboozled that my Prime subscription may just be a way to secretly get me to pay for shipping with out me noticing. And labeling items as Prime a way to get higher margins from sellers. 🤔
