Since you've been away from Nintendo for a while now, I'd say buy the system now and play through the Wii catalog until the Wii U games start dropping in a few months. That gives you time to play through the two Wii Zelda games, the Mario Galaxies, Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime Corruption, and Donkey Kong Country Returns (at a minimum) before the wave of fall games arrives.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Super Mario Galaxy

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Super Paper Mario

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Donkey Kong Country Returns

There's even more awesome games to be had from the Wii's catalog, and they're all 100% compatible with the Wii U. Don't deny yourself these awesome games!

Zelda Belt!: $16.99

Laptop battery: $24.10

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: $23.98

Super Mario Galaxy II: $34.16

Total: $99.23, all from his bomb list :)

u/Piratian · 15 pointsr/gaming

Yes, it is backwards compatible. You DO need a Wiimote however, and probably a nunchuck (thats the name of the joystick attachment) but i'm sure that can be fixed.

u/ZomgAwesome · 10 pointsr/wiiu

I understand what you mean, and I'm not going to pitchfork you. Here are some games that I think a 9 year old would like, and ones that I enjoy as well.

u/Dr_Discohands · 10 pointsr/nintendo

A lot of people attribute Nintendo games maintaining a high price because thats just what the Big N does, but in reality it is just a reflection of how high quality most of their games are. Most of their harshly reviewed and critically panned games have low prices. Compare Metriod:Other M to Mario Galaxy 2. Most of those evergreen titles are evergreen for a reason.

Come on now Gameboy Printer was pretty useful!!! Along with the printer you can forget about the Wii Bowling ball. http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Bowling-Ball-Nintendo/dp/B002GEA4U4

u/thinkforaminute · 8 pointsr/GameDeals

Don't forget us Wiitards. Super Mario Galaxy 2, Animal Crossing - City Folk, Super Mario All-Stars, and Donkey Kong Country Returns also for $15.99 each.

(So what's better -- Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley?)

u/Nukatha · 8 pointsr/wiiu

Breath of the Wild only supports the Gamepad and Wii U pro controller.

You do not want that PDP Samus fight pad. They suck, and will not work in Breath of the Wild. Also, the PDP pads are literally Wii Classic Controllers, requiring a Wii Remote to use. Not necessarily a negative, just something you need to know.
If you REALLY want a Wii Classic Controller shaped like a GC one, get the HORI Battle Pad.
This also will not work with Breath of the Wild.

If you want the amazing Gamecube Controller shape/Feel in your Zelda, you want THIS AMAZINGLY AWESOME PIECE OF TECH (Also available on Amazon and I think Gamestop).
That is a Wii U pro controller shaped like a GC controller, and works with all Wii U games that support the pro controller. The main reason this works where the other models mentioned here don't is that it features clickable analog sticks. The buttons/control sticks sometimes get desynced when entering and leaving the home menu, but a quick hold of a,b,+,- for 3 seconds will fix any and all issues.
Battery life is excellent, and I have no real complaints.
Only weird thing about it is that the 'Start' button is actually the console power button. To pause your game you'll probably just press + or - as usual.

Okami is the best non-Zelda Zelda-esque game.

It is on the Wii, linked below, but an HD re-release is coming to the XBox One in December.

Worthwhile games under $20

Wii U:

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Currently $20 on Amazon via third-party seller) - A solid action game with good online play.

Scribblenauts Unlimited ($17 on Amazon via third-party retailer, inc. shipping) and Unmasked ($18 on Amazon) - A fun little creative toy where you solve puzzles by creating... well, just about anything.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Currently $15 on Amazon) - A superb FPS, and the Wii U version is arguably the definitive console version of the game.

Batman: Arkham City: Armored Edition ($11 on BestBuy.com) - The definitive version of one of the best superhero games of all time.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 ($19 on Amazon) - A good fighting game.

Injustice: Gods Among Us ($14 on BestBuy.com) - A surprisingly good fighting game

Lego Marvel (Currently $20 on Amazon) - One of the better of the LEGO games, and the Wii U gamepad means that co-op play can be done with each player getting their own screen.

Assassin's Creed III (Currently $12 on Amazon via third-party seller, inc. shipping) and Black Flag ($19 on Amazon via third-party retailer, inc. shipping) - They're not really all that much better on the Wii U than other platforms, but if you don't have them yet these are decent entries in the series.

Resident Evil Revelations ($17 on BestBuy.com) - A decent entry in the series.

Wii:

Super Mario Galaxy ($20 on Amazon) - One of the best Mario games ever made, and generally considered to be one of the best videogames of all time.

Resident Evil 4 ($15 on Amazon) - One of the best survival horror games ever made.

Okami ($20 on Amazon) - A Zelda-style game with a beautiful calligraphy style.

Sin & Punishment: Star Successor ($18 on Amazon) - An action-packed shooter

Kirby's Epic Yarn ($14 on Amazon via third-party seller, inc. shipping) - It's so saccharine-cute it'll make your teeth rot, but if you can put up with that, it's an extremely inventive and fun platformer.

No More Heroes ($19 on Amazon) - A fun, very silly, violent action game.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion ($18 on Amazon) - Part surgery sim, part wicked hard arcade game.

De Blob ($18 on Amazon via third-party, inc. shipping) - A fun, inventive platformer where you bounce around to paint the scenery.

MadWorld ($11 on Amazon via third-party, inc. shipping) - A good, hyper-violent action game.

Wii U Nintendo eShop:

Shovel Knight - Old-school platformer goodness, designed like someone took the best parts of your favorite NES games and mashed them all together.

Art of Balance - A puzzle game that has you stacking blocks. It's really well-made.

Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition - A truly excellent Metroidvania-style game with a killer fighting engine and a fun, silly luchador theme. If you don't already have this on another platform, you need to get it.

Trine 2: Director's Cut - An excellent platform/puzzle game, and the Wii U version is arguably the best because the touchscreen is integrated very well.

WiiWare:

World of Goo - A superb puzzle game where you must construct various structures to get your goo to the exit.

Lost Winds 1 & 2 - Very good platformers that make good use of the Wii remote to make the gameplay interesting.

Bomberman Blast - 8-player online Bomberman. Aww yisssss.

Wii U Virtual Console - Too many good old-school games to list.

Wii Virtual Console - Tons and tons of good old-school games. It's not quite as convenient as the Wii U virtual console, because you have to go into Wii mode to play them and you can't play them with the Wii U gamepad, but the selection on the Wii's Virtual Console is far, far better than on the Wii U, and at the rate Nintendo is adding games to the Wii U Virtual Console, it looks like it'll probably stay that way for a long time. Keep in mind that if Nintendo adds a game to the Wii U Virtual Console that you already have on the Wii Virtual Console, they'll give you a discount on it to entice you to upgrade, so don't hold off just because you're hoping the game you want will come to the Wii U Virtual Console if it's already on the Wii Virtual Console.

Edit: Well, damn. Today Nintendo announced what is kinda' a game-changer - they're releasing Wii games directly for download on the Wii U's eShop for $20 each ($10 each on the week they're first released). The first game, Super Mario Galaxy 2, is out now, and the next two games will be Metroid Prime Trilogy and Punch-Out!!

All three of those games are extremely good, and have been selling for far more than the asking price (Metroid Prime Trilogy was $60-100 used before this news). If you're looking for cheap Wii U games and never got these titles on the Wii, Nintendo has just dropped the gauntlet with a deal you can't refuse.

u/Casaham · 6 pointsr/nintendo

Wiis, or Wii Us? I'm going to assume Wii, but if you mean Wii U, I can also help. I also don't know exactly how these Wiis will be used. Are they meant to be used in a clubhouse-like setting, or will they be taken from place to place for one kid to play at a time?

If you bought Wiis, you would more than likely be being used. You could check a local Gamestop to see if they're selling them used, but they may not. Like, I know my local Gamestop only sells PS3s and 360s used. If they don't have Wiis, you can definitely buy off of eBay or Amazon. I suggest you try to get controllers bundled with the console wherever you get them, because buying controllers on their own are like $20, $50 if you want a Motionplus (which is just an extension that improves the controller) The advantage of buying a Wii over a Wii U would be you would have a lot of money left over for games, since the console itself is more inexpensive, and the games are cheaper.

Although it's an older console, the Wii still has plenty of great games. [Mario Kart Wii] (http://www.amazon.com/Mario-Kart-Wii-Wheel-Nintendo/dp/B000XJNTNS) is a really fun one, and if you just buy the game (I never liked the wheel) it's pretty cheap. [Mario Party 8] (http://www.amazon.com/Mario-Party-8-nintendo-wii/dp/B000LSJKAM/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1415812236&sr=1-1&keywords=mario+party+8) is a MUST have, and is probably the best party game on the system. Huge replay value, and it's not too difficult for kids. [Super Mario Galaxy] (http://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-Galaxy-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B000FQ9QVI/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1415812294&sr=1-2&keywords=super+mario+galaxy) is widely regarded as one of the best video games period. It's only 2 player, though, so it might not be best for your situation. [New Super Mario Bros. Wii] (http://www.amazon.com/New-Super-Mario-Bros-Wii-Nintendo/dp/B002BRZ9G0/ref=pd_sim_vg_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=160GWY5DR8453EPHDZFW) is a really fun game, and is great for co-op play. Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are VERY good games, both very versatile. They're easy to pick up, and can be played alone or with friends. Most Wiis came with Wii Sports, so you can pick it up for really cheap. Wii Party I've found is pretty popular with kids, although it's not the best party game on the system. My younger sister loves Wii Play, but I don't see how it could appeal to kids. It has 9 minigames that are all pretty different, but they're not spectacular. Just Dance is a great game to get, but a lot of kids are sometimes too embarrassed to ever play it. The Lego games are GREAT, and even though they're only two player, I think they're way to fun to leave out. They're good for kids, adults, teens, whatever. My personal favorite is the Lego Star Wars Saga, but there are plenty of other Lego games if you don't like that one. Kirby's Epic Yarn could be fun for kids, because I know Kirby is a really popular character for the younger ones. I may be wrong, but I think (?) it supports co-op mode. For the older kids, Super Smash Bros Brawl is the absolute BEST choice. My local YMCA used to have a Wii and only Super Smash Bros Brawl, and it was all that the middle/high school aged kids used to play.

With a Wii, you can also play Gamecube games. Similar to the Wii, it has Mario Kart games, Mario Party games, and Super Smash Bros. You have to buy a Gamecube controller, though, obviously.

In terms of educational games, the only one I can think of that was major for the system is Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree. I personally had a lot of fun with it, and it's challenging for older kids while still being accessible for younger ones.

In terms of accessories, I suggest nunchuks and classic controllers. Nunchuks are required for a lot of games, and classic controllers can either be used as an alternate controller or to control Wii Shop games. The Wii Shop is where you can download old games, like the original Super Mario Bros. The classic controller is required to play those games. As I mentioned before, the Motion Plus is also helpful, and required for some games, like Wii Sports Resort. It's basically just an upgrade to the Wii that is attached to the bottom. If you buy Wii Fit (which I didn't suggest, since it's pretty much one player) you will need to buy a Balance Board.

With all of the games, you're probably going to be buying used, just because new Wii games are almost always very expensive. Used games for Wii can vary from expensive to cheap, and I can't imagine you'd come very close to $950 with everything I just mentioned. So with whatever you have left, visit a Gamestop, which have extensive Wii collections, and grab whatever game catches your eye. Games like Deca Sports and 30 Great Games are fun games that I own that went under the radar.

u/EKomadori · 6 pointsr/consoles

The last official collection that contained all of them was Super Mario All-Stars, as far as I know, on the Wii. The Wii U was fully backward compatible, and would be able to play the game.

u/Izkata · 6 pointsr/KotakuInAction

I nominate the Wii Bowling Ball for worst idea.

u/LePetomane · 5 pointsr/WiiHacks

Hori makes a controller that is functionally identical to a a GameCube controller, which plugs into the Wiimote. The Wii sees it as a classic controller. here is the one I use with my Wii. It's compatible with Wii and Wii U.

u/GerbilPants · 5 pointsr/gaming

Super Mario Bros. Wii.

It goes back to the same play style that Super Mario Bros. 4 had back in the old Super Nintendo days. I tried out the coin battle (1-4 people compete to collect the most coins in a level) a while back and was going to sit down and play for 10-15 minutes and wound up playing for a few hours.

The next day a friend and I picked it back up and played the actual campaign (for lack of a better term) for damn near 4 hours straight. It isn't split screen but it is co-op on the same screen and an absolute blast to play with a friend.

u/[deleted] · 4 pointsr/wiiu

Don't buy it they make it look the same for a reason. Grab a Nintendo licensed third-party Wii U Controller, or just shell out the extra 20 bucks for the pro. You can also use a classic pro controller for a lot of games.

http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Commander-Wii-U-Nintendo/dp/B00ANHBJBY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1406537466&sr=8-2&keywords=wii+u+controllers - This is a cheap controller by Nyko for Wii U i can't speak for it myself but the reviews seem OKAY.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00BRA9R5G/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new&qid=1406537516&sr=8-1 - This is an Afterglow controller, again i can't speak for it myself but i DO have an afterglow X360 controller which works perfectly.

If i was you, find a deal at target/wal-mart/amazon for a pro controller, it has an insane amount of battery life, and really it's just a fantastic controller. Also the wii-mote and nunchuk is used for a lot of games as well so maybe think about picking that up.

All WiiU games and any Virtual Console games that are in the WiiU's eShop can be default be played 100% with the gamepad. If you want to play old Wii games you will most likely (99% of games) need a Wiimote and nunchuck. Based on personal preferences you can then opt for a Pro Controller to use with certain games if you want. For example, I played Hyrule Warriors exclusively with the Pro Controller even though I didn't have to, just 'cause.

u/Kurros_ · 3 pointsr/wiiu

The game pad turns off when you switch to Wii mode.

You will need the Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuck to play the classic Wii games but, the classic Wii remote will work as well if you already own that. In addition, I'd also recommend grabbing a classic controller if you plan on playing Wii games like Super Smash Bros Brawl as the Wii U Pro Controller will not work.

There is an official forum list here of compatible external hard drives, but I haven't put much of a dent in mine yet so, you may want to hold off.

Typical file sizes for older SNES games seem to be in the 20-30 MB range.

u/fudgepop01 · 3 pointsr/SSBPM

I dunno 'bout any of you, but I love me a nice match on the good ol' [wii bowling ball].

... jk :P . I use the classic controller pro. It has grips like the GameCube controller, is lightweight, and has FOUR buttons on the back instead of three. The button placement shouldn't take too long to get used to (especially when compared with the wiichuck). It's basically Nintendo's version of a PS2 controller.

Splatoon's motion controls are absolutely the thing to use. They let you aim faster and more precisely than what's possible with an analog stick. It's the same sort of advantage over a stick that you get with mouse aim on PC FPSes, but less so.

As for Smash, if you're used to Gamecube controllers but don't currently have one, the Hori Battle Pad is the way to go. It plugs into the Wii Remote (it's essentially a Classic Controller) so you'll need one of those too. If you already have at least one Gamecube controller, get the adapter. This only works with Smash but the Battle Pad works with any game that supports Classic Controllers.

If you have an ethernet jack near your Wii U, get the wired network adapter and say goodbye to unstable or dropped connections in Splatoon!

Definitely, no matter what, get a Pro Controller. I also recommend two Wiimotes and Nunchuks.

u/Piccoro · 3 pointsr/wii

The two wal marts by my house have the Pdp afterglow controller on clearance for $20. I picked it up for my daughter for Christmas becaise she really likes my pro controller so I haven't got to test it out yet. So If anyone has one and can chime in I'd like to know what people's thoughts are on them.

For a slightly more detailed answer...

What you have there on your TV is a Component input set of connectors. Component video works by splitting the video signal on 3 separate wires which correspond to Red, Green and Blue. The standard Wii video cable connects to Composite input. Composite video outputs the video signal on a single Yellow wire.

Now, the Wii is capable of outputting Component signal through a compatible cable (not sure where you're located, but here's a link on Amazon for it). This would actually be the best video output the WIi is capable of and I totally recommend this, it's what I use too. Using this should be straightforward on your TV, connect everything to its corresponding color (Audio is on top, Video is on bottom). Be sure to select 480p HDTV video signal in the Wii's settings.

Depending on the capabilities of your TV, you could get by with the standard Composite Wii cable (Yellow, White and Red) by connecting the Yellow connector to the Green input of your TV, but whether this works or not depends on the TV (my big ass Philips Android TV, for example, accepts only Component input on these connectors, it does not allow Composite signal and would only display a monochrome fuzzy image when I try this).

u/frank_n_bean · 2 pointsr/wiiu

Try going for the Japanese one from Amazon. It's literally the exact same as the US version (and OEM), except the packaging is in Japanese. I got mine the other day and it works like a charm.

u/Netfoolsmedia · 2 pointsr/nintendo

Look up the Afterglow Pro controllers. They are clear plastic controllers you can get for the Wii U that are at least $10 cheaper than the official Pro controller and is superior in every way in my opinion.

The Afterglow has a slightly smaller and conforming shape than the Pro does. Think Xbox One feel. The analog stick platforms are concave so you get superior control without slippage, once again, think Xbox One style. The triggers are responsive and feel great. The price is spot on, and they come with their own charging cables.

The only complaints I have are follows: I don't like glossy finish controllers. Both the Afterglow and Official Pro controllers are glossy. I find clear controllers tacky looking, and I don't like LEDs in my controllers. I don't plan on doing anything about the Afterglows being clear, but you can turn off the LEDs with a button press, so that isn't an issue anymore.

Wii U Afterglow: Here is a link to an Amazon listing for them. You can also get them at local Gamestops for like $29.99+tax. I bought 4 of these when I got my system and love them.

I think I may use one for a Majora's Mask mod that I want to do.

u/TAMANEGIBOY · 2 pointsr/Gamecube

Here’s what I bought.
Amazon Link

They aren’t official but I’ve been using them for over 2 years now. But the CRT thing is really up to you. Component makes GameCube games really crisp but then you start to see how aged some games can be. You could get official cables but it won’t really make a difference.

u/schmin · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This new version of a wiimote would really help encourage me to wii dance more (and be less frustrated when it lies about whether I did a move) as well as we would have two wiimotes so I could play with my BF! =D

u/Lilikura · 2 pointsr/wiiu

Sorry, if I wasn't clear. The console itself comes with the tablet, the gamepad is completely optional, and most games want you to have one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Wii-Remote-Plus-Black/dp/B0094X28J0/ref=sr_1_4?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1396401930&sr=1-4&keywords=wii+remote

I don't remember if it came with any, or how many, because I bought it at launch. But really, Wiimotes are all you need for multiplayer. Those and games.

u/serpentcroissant · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

oh! i would def be interested. i'm trying to save up for one for my son. he has been asking for one for so long now. Favorite video game. of all time. lol

Here's my setup

Yes, yes, I know, I have a CRT instead of a flat screen TV. If you'd also notice, I play more old consoles than new and CRT is superior to flat screen for them (and much cheaper). Ideally I'll be upgrading to a small (~20") Sony Trinitron. The 32" ones are free and widely available but they're sooooo big and heavy.

Monitors are from Craigslist ($35 and $10 respectively). CRT was a gift from a friend. It's dying though (discoloration). Pre-amp and speakers were also gifts from friends. PC and consoles I bought myself.

If finding a CRT becomes a problem, you can also settle for a monitor with a low response time (~1 ms) as an alternative, along with a wii2HDMI adapter. This way, your monitor can double for melee and PC gaming.

u/Scizor44 · 2 pointsr/SSBPM

It's because your wii's disk reader is old, probably dusty or something. I had the same problem which was fixed by replacing the boot.elf file with an older project m version's boot.elf. This works because in the older versions, it didn't take you back to the wii menu, it just lets you try again. You could do that or fix the wii by buying this but it's sort of expensive.

Here's a game you can try: Okami. It should be simple and intuitive enough to play, and the feel/look of the game is nothing short of beautiful. Story-wise there is a lot of text, but if he can get around that with the visual clues then there should be no problem. There are a couple of annoying points in the game, but overall it was really fun to play and has many good concepts that young people in general should learn.

u/xXglitchygamesXx · 2 pointsr/Metroid

>And people don't like it.

That's sort of a misconception. I do realize that it is true, there are people who don't like it, but that can be said for any game. If we are talking generally speaking, then it doesn't appear to be true. If you look around the internet, you'll see that most critic and user scores give it a rather high rating. Thanks! It looks like Okami is on Amazon (my go-to for most of my purchases anyway), so that looks like a good option! I would prefer to buy a physical copy both so it can be returned if he doesn't want it and also it's kind of more fun to give physical gifts. Looks like Dark Souls 2 doesn't have a physical copy yet, but maybe I'll look into DS1 to see if it is compatible.

Smash, Kart, and Rayman legends support the widest range of controllers.

If you think your co-workers would fair better with more traditional controllers --- the Pro Controllers are the closest fit. They are a fairly expensive but also have a nearly 80 hour battery life. In games that support it, pro controllers can usually be used interchangeably with the gamepad (screen controller).

On the other end of the spectrum, the wii mote is cheaper, has less buttons (primarily used for simple games), includes pointer / motion controls, and requires batteries.

Some games will require the nunchuck addon; alternatively, a classic controller addon provides support similar to the pro above.

All games will list controller compatibility on the back of the box (or info page on sale sites).

Is there any difference between this Wolf Link amiibo and this one? I was wondering why they were different prices despite both being on Amazon.

u/LegatoSkyheart · 2 pointsr/wiiu

oh man, I got stuff for you.

  1. You need a Classic Controller. I suggest getting one of these as they work just as well and they're fairly common to get.

  2. Know that with a Wii U you have two options for the Virtual Console which is the eShop AND the Wii Shop. The Wii Shop has WAY more Options for Virtual Console then the Wii U, but if you want all the games that were on the NES Classic then you need to utilize BOTH Wii and Wii U shops.

  3. Wii Virtual Console games CAN NOT BE PLAYED WITH THE GAMEPAD. This is the reason why you need a Classic Controller. The Wiimote + Classic Controller will allow you to play these games.

  4. On Wii U virtual console games if you want Co-Op, The Gamepad is always going to be on. If you want one person playing with a classic controller and one with the Wii U Gamepad, you're going to need to either press ZR on the Gamepad or just touch the Screen when the Virtual Console game is on and you will need to touch the Bar with the squares to change the order of the Gamepad so the game will know which controllers have priority. Otherwise Both the Gamepad and the Classic Controller will register as player 1.

  5. Here's a little list of NES games I have on my system to give you an idea what's available to own for your Wii U.

    :Wii:

  • Super Mario 1, 2, Lost Levels, 3

  • Metroid

  • Zelda 1 & 2

  • Kid Icarus

  • Megaman 1-5

  • Double Dragon 1&2

  • Blaster Master

  • Bubble Bobble

  • Super C

  • Wario's Woods

  • Donkey Kong

  • Gradius

  • Final Fantasy

  • Dig Dug

  • Ghosts'NGoblins

  • The Adventures of Lolo

  • Star Tropics 1 & 2

  • Bokutte UPA

  • Shadow of Ninja

  • Tecmo Bowl

    :Wii U:

  • Balloon Fight

  • Punch-Out

  • Castlevania 1-3

  • Earthbound Zero

  • Ninja Gaiden 1-3

  • Kirby's Adventure

  • River City Ransom

  • Megaman 6

And that's just the NES titles I have and that's not even HALF of what you can own.

If you want 3rd parties, check out the Afterglow controllers. I find them to be more comfortable for some games, and they are cheaper. PDP makes some decent quality stuff.

While unavailable online, they can usually be found in Gamestops and places like Sears, WalMart, Target, etc.

Such an amazingly beautiful and engaging game.. i was worried that when i got it, i had gotten something people would make fun of me for being childish.. it is amazing! it's something i keep going back to play.. the parts where you aren't fighting are brain engaging and relaxing at the same time, beautiful scenery and wonderful music. I LOVE IT..

As someone who beat it 3 times over on both the PS2 and the Wii, the Wii version is a lot better in my opinion.

My reason? The drawing mechanic in the game is better suited for the Wii controller, which makes the game much more fast paced and the battles are a lot more fun. Instead of having to draw a shape slowly with the analog stick. Don't get me wrong, it was still fun on the PS2, but I still hold a preference to the Wii version after playing both. But if you can use the motion on the PS3 it would be worth it to get that.

I just took a quick look online if that is any help PS2, Wii, can't find the PS3 version. The Wii version is cheaper though.

u/OliverNodel · 1 pointr/wiiu

I bought mine from Amazon UK. I believe it was ~$40 after shipping/conversion. I just got tired of waiting for it to be restocked in the US, and it's been more than worth it.

PDP Afterglow
https://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-Pro-Controller-Wii-U-nintendo/dp/B00BRA9R5G/177-2450122-9465643?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0

Pros: It has decent analogue triggers. Battery life not bad.
Cons: the rubber on the thumbsticks will probably tear a bit.
I don't use mine that often, but Mario Kart / Smash mulitiplayer has worn out the left thumbstick and it flaps a bit now, which is annoying.

It's not a terrible controller - good if you prefer analogue triggers, but I would recommend the Pro Controller if you can afford it, you definitely get what you pay for: solid, and insane battery life. I only bought this one (PDP) because I wanted two Pros and the only had one left in the shop.

u/Joelthethief · 1 pointr/wiiu

  1. Your best bet for Wii remote charging with the sleeve on will be induction charging stations like this 2 remote station or this 4 remote station. There are many more options, and you should look for one you like.

  2. You can buy straight from Nintendo or pick one from Amazon, but I recommend reading reviews first.

  3. The official Nintendo high capacity battery is currently out of stock on their website but available for way too much money on Amazon. I have heard good things about the official battery, but nothing about 3rd party batteries.

  4. Depends on where you're located. The US basically has nothing good.

u/calvinwars · 1 pointr/SSBM

Yo, I just got a CRT with Component input. Is it worth getting a Wii Component cable to play on? I understand the concept of 480i relative to 480p, but I've never actually cared that much about it until now.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CA8636K/

Here's one listed for only $8.

u/mrpopsicleman · 1 pointr/nesclassicmods

Looks like a white Wii Classic Controller Pro.

u/SailorMercurySSB · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

There's a subgroup of melee video fidelity heads who would be extremely excited about it, but your average melee player probably isn't in the know about that kind of thing.

As it turns out CRT computer monitors are the cheapest way to get the highest quality video from your melee (480p), so it would definitely be worth hitting up your local melee scene and offering it, if you also explain to them why it's good and how to use it.

You need wii component cables and a component to VGA converter, then you gotta hold B while melee is starting up which gives you a little menu where it asks if you want to enable progressive scan and you say yes, but in all likelihood the screen is black on the monitor since before progressive scan is enabled it probably won't be able to display anything - so you gotta just hit left and then hit A once to select it without looking. But then you're all set and it's BEAUTIFUL!

Tournament organizers in particular would probably like it since they can use it for their live stream setup and have ultra high quality video for the players on stream as well as for the folks at home. It's a thing melee streamers do sometimes if they wanna be super classy with the production value.

One of the Hori or PDP fight pads that were recently released would work the same.

MM was included as a bonus disc with one of the games, and my brother played it all the time on the Wii with a Gamecube controller. That's why I'm assuming you'll need the classic controller or fight pad.

> Come back to me when chain book stores only stock the latest Steven King new, and everyone other book is used, then you'd have an argument.

I'm back. This is almost universally true. Stores like Half-Price books will put new bestsellers out, but the rest of their stock is used. Amazon is a weird case since it's an online retailer, but their used stock is literally right next to their new stock -- you can compare prices immediately (and -- gasp! -- they still manage to sell new books anyway)

> If you can afford a used game, you can probably afford a new one, or you could, if you could find one.

Ha, this is fucking bullshit. I'm not sure why this lie keeps getting repeated, but the only used games that are $55 are ones that you buy on Day 2 of launch. Past that, they're significantly cheaper. Here is a good example. $45 new. $25 used.

u/Joegotbored · 1 pointr/wiiu
  • You will need an external hard drive.

  • Gamepad battery range is short, battery sucks. Invest in an extra charge cable to use while playing, or one of the extra battery attachments. Range can't be helped.

  • The best controller option, in my opinion, is to NOT go with the Wii U pro controllers, but with Wii Remotes, along with the Nun-Chuck and Classic Controller Pro Controller. This will get you the best variety of support, and is not too expensive if you do it correctly. Go through the Nintendo refurbished store for the $25 Wii Motion Plus Remote + Nunchuck deal. Purchase Nintendo Brand Wii Classic Controller Pro attachments; the Japanese version from Amazon are the best, they are compatible, $20-$25.

Oh if you know a sub where this would be better answered I would much appreciate being redirected!

EDIT: Punctuation

u/Gr8NonSequitur · 1 pointr/wiiu

First thing I'd do is order [Wii Party U] ( http://www.amazon.com/Party-Black-Remote-Plus-nintendo-u/dp/B00DC7FWRE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381842635&sr=8-1&keywords=wii+party+u).
It's $50 and comes with a black motion + controller and comes out this month. The game looks really fun local mutliplayer, and you will really want a Wiimote+ in your collection as well so this kills 2 birds with 1 stone. Grab a Black Nunchuck to match and you should be good to go.

[NintendoLand] (http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Land-wii-u/dp/B002I0K3M0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381843310&sr=8-1&keywords=nintendo+land) - Is really fun local multiplayer, and can be found for $20 or less these days. Keep an eye out and you can get it cheap.

[Need for Speed Most Wanted U] ( http://www.amazon.com/Need-Speed-Most-Wanted-Nintendo-u/dp/B00A39IEN8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1381843367&sr=8-6&keywords=need+for+speed+most+wanted ) - is the best version of the game. They support every feature the PS360 has + off screen play, a co-driver mode which helps you change your environments, DLC included, further draw distances and higher res textures (they used the PC textures, not the PS360 ones) so if you don't already have it, it's a great game and under $20.

[Rayman Legends] ( http://www.amazon.com/Rayman-Legends-nintendo-wii-u/dp/B008AU4YEA/ref=sr_1_1_title_0?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1381843522&sr=1-1&keywords=rayman+legends+wiiu ) - Is also best on Wii U, in particular if you have someone to play co-op with.

I'd also at least try the [Zombie U] ( http://www.amazon.com/ZombiU-Nintendo-Wii-U/dp/B00897Z27C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381843957&sr=8-1&keywords=zombie+u), Monster Hunters 3, [Wonderful 101] ( http://www.amazon.com/The-Wonderful-101-Nintendo-Wii-U/dp/B002I08CSW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381844015&sr=8-1&keywords=wonderful+101), Sonic & All Stars Racing all of which are pretty good and have demos in the eShop.

Some Wii Games you missed since the Wii U is 100% Backwards compatible.

[Metroid Prime Trilogy] ( http://www.amazon.com/Metroid-Prime-Trilogy-Collectors-Edition-Nintendo/dp/B002ATY7JE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381842549&sr=8-1&keywords=metroid+prime+trilogy ) - Fantastic. Can't be stressed enough. 3 FANTASTIC 20+ hour games, and the motion / pointers controls are fantastic. This is how FPS's should be done.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and [or 2] (http://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-Galaxy-2-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B002BSA388/ref=pd_sim_vg_2) - Both are great, but if you're going to get [Super Mario 3D World] (http://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-3D-World-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B00DC7G0GG/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1381844129&sr=1-1&keywords=mario+world) I can see waiting on them.

[MadWorld] ( http://www.amazon.com/MadWorld-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B0019SY1D4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381842523&sr=8-1&keywords=madworld ) - Short and fun, guilty pleasure kind of game. Think of the movie "The Running Man" done with a Sin City style and you're pretty close and it's under $10 now. Also for guilty pleasures I enjoyed House of the Dead: Overkill

Any Tiger Woods from 10 and up - I enjoyed them all, but once they added Wiimotion+ support it controlled much better.

Here's a Wii component cable on Amazon UK.

I've never had good luck with the Wii-to-HDMI adapters...they usually overheat and then you get slowdowns or out-of-sync audio.

Found a couple results on ebay for a "ICOMCEPTS GAME FURY BASKETBALL" that you put a wiimote in: ebay1, ebay2

Other crazy ball/round controllers unclude:
a wii bowling ball a dragon quest slime and a indie game Butt Sniffin Pugs uses a giant tennis ball.

Are you from Spain? It got restocked on Amazon and some other shops.

I think you can order from our Amazon since I bought something on Amazon DE, so here is the link.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 came out in 2010, it's on a now obsoleted system, but still costs more than $60. What the hell?

Would that be a good mouse/keyboard combo?

If someone can recommend me a cheap one otherwise that'd be good too :)

Zak's Videogame Shack on Amazon is legit. His is the first used listing for Wii Remotes with Motion Plus here: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/offer-listing/B00N4OAELY

I've personally bought one of them from him as well as a Pro Classic controller, Wii U Pro controller, Nunchuk controller, and Gamecube Wavebird, and all were in great cosmetic shape and 100% working order. His prices are also very solid.

Well that's a little harsh. I was basing it off amazons blurb

Which is my bad. Should not have ordered from Nintendo directly

If you don't like the Wii Remote and prefer more traditional controls then the Wii Classic Controller Pro is for you.

Edit: Link to buy them on eBay.

if you don't want to spend $50, I bought myself this 3rd party one for $30. It has solid reviews. I can't speak for it myself since I haven't received it, just a heads up!

Ohhhh I know it would be more than awesome if I got Donkey Kong Country Returns

I know it's a little bit more expensive but I will share this with my 3 siblings which would be more appropriate to spread the happiness

Here is a link from Amazon.

Just a disclaimer, I never had to use this product so I can not vouch for its effectiveness or if it will work right. I would try Nintendo support first but the reason I suggest this is if the discs work at a friends house then I'm thinking the issue is with the disc reader in the system.

Instead of the XFX power supply, consider the EVGA 500W white. It costs pretty much the same and comes with really nice sleeved cables. If you haven't already, check out CiT cases. It's up to personal preference but I think some of the cases (F3 series, Dragon³) look really nice. Solid build, maybe grab up some extra hard drives when you need them but if you don't need storage then don't bother. Good luck with the build.

Sidenote - Nice, cheap peripherals (I've used for 2 years now)

Worth mentioning there are more designs, such as a Pikachu one, a Lugi one, Link, Metal Mario, DK, Yoshi, Peach, Wario, and Samus. There might more designs, but that's all I found.
Regarding quality, they are officially licensed by Nintendo, so they should be good.
