Buy an XBOX 360 bundle with a game (I recommended the Halo 4/tomb raider bundle. Then instead of a game, buy a year of gold. You'll get 24 games for free over the next year as well as be able to buy games for cheap. For example, I just got "orange box" for $5.

GET THEM ALL!!!! Just kidding ^^^^^but ^^^^^not ^^^^^really

If you are interested in the story I would recommend getting Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary first in order to get an idea of what Halo is about. It is basically the first Halo game, Halo: Combat Evolved, but remastered for the Xbox 360 on its 10 year anniversary. It has the entire first game's campaign and a multiplayer portion using the engine from Halo: Reach (we'll get to that in a moment).

If you are still interested in the story, go for Halo 2 next. It is for the original Xbox, but is also compatible with the 360 so you can play the campaign. It no longer has online multiplayer, though, so it is only good for local custom games and the campaign.

If you purchased Halo 2 you are probably interested enough in the Halo universe to continue the Master Chief's story. The next game will be Halo 3. Halo 3 is a great game and still has online multiplayer, though it is fairly sparse right now.

Note: Halo 3 will become available for free download on July 1st if you have Xbox Live Gold.

Halo 4 is the next game in line that follows the story of the Master Chief, however, there are two other games that were released between them.

Halo 3:ODST is one of these two games. It takes place during the events of Halo 2, but you play as a normal soldier rather than the Master Chief who is a Spartan. Spartans are basically supersoldiers. Normal humans who were augmented to be faster, stronger, and smarter than normal people. It is a fun game and comes with the Halo 3: ODST campaign and a second disc that contains all the multiplayer maps for Halo 3 which allows you to play Halo 3 online.

The other game is Reach. In Halo: Reach you play as a Spartan supersoldier, but not the Master Chief. This game takes places chronologically before the first Halo game, Halo: CE, but was released in 2010. It still has a decent multiplayer population, but I am not sure if is more than Halo 4.

The final game is Halo 4, the newest in the series. It follows the story of the Master Chief after Halo 3, and I believe it has the most populated multiplayer as of right now. Though, the numbers are still fairly low compared to other shooter games out there. This will be the game you will want if you are only interested in online play.

----

Too Long Didn't Read

If you are interested in campaign and storyline go for:

  • Halo: CEA

  • Halo 2

  • Halo 3

  • Halo 4

  • Halo 3: ODST ^*

  • Halo: Reach ^

    ^
Play these any time you want after Halo 3.

If you are only interested in playing online multiplayer go for:

  • Halo 4

  • Halo: Reach

  • Halo 3 (which will be free on July 1st!)

I would recommend Halo 4 over Reach, hopefully someone will be better informed on multiplayer populations than I am.

    ----

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! :D

I use the afterglow Xbox 360 controller! It's a USB controller compatible with most games on pc (you don't even need to do setup) and you can just plug it into your laptop.

Edit: Pretty sure it's this controller

u/Mr_Mendelli · 13 pointsr/xbox360

I would say that you might have a chance of being able to use it if you can find a way to keep it cool. I had a friend that this happened to and he ended up using his minifridge as a means of being able to play it. I've also heard that frozen towels are a favorite method as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------
As far as fixing it goes:
--------------------------------------------------------------

Unless you have the knowledge and experience of fixing consoles, you're better off just buying a new one. If you get a new one that is a different model, you can buy an Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer Cable (Price will vary) to move your data to your new console.

u/videogameexpert · 10 pointsr/darksouls

While there will probably be rudimentary mouse and keyboard controls just like other xbox ports, I highly recommend buying a wired xbox (or xbox knock-off) controller for your PC. There are so many games that just play better on controller and as an avid PC gamer I believe this is one of them.

this controller is what I use for example.

u/DrStephenFalken · 8 pointsr/xbox360

On top of this OP might want to look into the data transfer cable so his son can port over his old HDD without any problem.

u/zeug666 · 8 pointsr/gaming

It is only on the Star Wars edition Xbox 360, which makes the R2D2 noise when you push the power button and a different R2D2 noise when you push the eject.

u/Sweet_Baby_Cheezus · 8 pointsr/xbox360

Well I know your budgets $200 but for $250 you can get a 250gb elite (no kinect) that comes with 2 AAA games. That would be my recommend rather than trying to save $50 and getting a used 120gb or something.

Here's one I found

u/mistahpinkeyes · 7 pointsr/xbox360

You cannot run 720p (or 1080p) through a composite signal. You need a component cable (red, blue, green w/red & white audio):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_video

https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Component-HD-Cable/dp/B000B6MLPU

Unfortunately it appears your television doesn't have component inputs.

You could try something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Portta-N3CVRHP-Component-Converter-support/dp/B003VJ9RP6 but at this point you're approaching the cost of a more recent secondhand 360 with hdmi.

u/MisterVash · 7 pointsr/battlefield3

sure thing, man! PROTIP: If you have a .edu email account, you can sign up for amazon student, and get amazon prime for free while you're in school. Really nifty.

for original xbox, amazon prime eligible: $56.70

for xbox slim, prime eligible: $50.86

You'll also need a Transfer cable Prime eligible: $7.49

edit: you get 6 months free, then it costs $39/yr, instead of $80/yr

u/candre23 · 7 pointsr/forza

The game has a few limitations that I don't like - specifically no night racing, no rain, no dirt/gravel, and no open-wheeled cars. I expect Horizon will correct at least a few of these limitations.

My only other gripe isn't so much with Forza as with Microsoft. Forza is the premier, exclusive racing sim on their system. You would think that when designing a racing wheel to go with it, it would be fully functional. Nope. I got one of these, and while it's a great wheel in many respects, the lack of LB and RB make painting impossible and several game menus difficult-to-impossible to access. You would hope that the MS team designing the wheel would work a bit more closely with the team distributing one of the biggest games for the system to ensure compatibility.

u/Jr712 · 7 pointsr/xboxone

Do it! Amazon has the entire trilogy for $30. For me personally, the Mass Effect series, Bioshock series, and Skyrim were my absolute favorite games from that generation. If you play nothing else you should at least play those.

Hori VX-SA Kai is what I currently use. It is an excellent stick that comes in a square gate (as with most). Retails for $130-140 USD although sales happen quite often.

Pros include coming stock with full high quality Sanwa parts, as well as a large area to play on. Also comes with a rubbery bottom that reduces the chance that your stick will move while you use it. The cord is VERY long, and is plug and play compatible with the PC as well as the Xbox 360.

The only con I have for the stick is that the buttons are VERY sensitive. It registers a button press as soon as the button is depressed (1/5th of the way down) and while others may prefer these very sensitive buttons I would prefer if they would activate a little further down the button press, personally speaking.

u/Sevrek · 5 pointsr/MvC3

It's really up to you as far as which one is better, because no one can say for sure that stick>pad or pad>stick. As far as being dual compatible yes you can find sticks that work for PC/XBOX/PS3. Best brands is also another matter of opinion. I paid $120 for my stick and I think it was well worth the price. Most Eightarc sticks are dual compatible, not sure of any other brands that are. Here are some amazon links for some reasonably prices arcade sticks from Madcatz, Hori and Eightarc.

That connection is only capable of standard definition TV ( 480i )

At the bare minimum connect via a component cable, it will have the white and red audio cables, a yellow composite cable, and a set of blue, green and red component video cables. Using the component video connection from this cable will allow you use either 720p or 1080i.

I connect one of our Xboxes to our TV with component video and it does 1080i just fine. Our other Xbox is on my desk and connects to my monitor via the Xbox VGA cable and is running at the LCD monitor's native resolution of 1680x1050 and looks very good.

Edit for Linky Clickies :

u/jbigboote · 4 pointsr/xbox360

I liked the two original Xbox games a lot, so I'd say start with Halo 3. It continues that story. or if money is no object, start at the beginning with Halo CE, which recently got an anniversary release for Xbox 360.

Not counting the RTS game Halo Wars, chronologically, Halo Reach (the most recently released new Halo game) is the beginning. I thought it was a great game, I played it quite a bit, including the multiplayer, which I imagine is still alive and well. It's worth playing, and stands pretty well by itself, since it is before the Master Chief trilogy.

u/javi806 · 4 pointsr/xbox360

You need this. I think they sell used ones at Gamestop if you want to save a few bucks.

u/powerdeamon · 4 pointsr/xbox360

This is what I use. I have a few official xbox batteries and a 3rd party battery pack (I don't have exactly this one but it's similar. I got them all at Gamestop). They all work great.

Great games. But if you check Amazon's digital game sales, these two games usually go for $4.99. Or it goes for $9.99 with a third game added (i.e. Spec Ops - The Line). And if you have a console, there's an Ultimate Rapture Edition available for $19.99 on the PS3 and Xbox 360 that includes bonus content (DLC). I'm not sure why the DLC isn't offered for purchase on Steam.

u/SuperDrunkNoShirtGuy · 4 pointsr/gaming

For 20$ more it is definiately worth the extra money, considering that you will then instead get a 2 year replacement warranty instead of only 30 days.

I checked online and a brand new Xbox 360 is currently 179$ on Amazon. Now I am not familar with how much you use Amazon but having been a customer for almost 3 years I have never complained about their service.

Yes you will need to pay monthly/quaterly/yearly in order to play online with friends.

PS3 on the other hand does not have a monthly cost. Obviously it then comes down to whether or not his friends have PS3 or Xbox.

You can get bundled deals on Amazon too with 2 games for 250 too:

You need to study Sunday.

What I need is this cord. It doesn't look like like much, but my nephews don't have one, and I have to babysit them over the summer, and it would make it a whole lot easier on me if they were able to play multiplayer Minecraft. Which you need this cord for.

u/Pyronious · 3 pointsr/software

I'm not aware of a consumer-level capture card that can capture audio over HDMI and a secondary input simultaneously. My recommendation is to switch the cable coming out of your Xbox360 from HDMI to HD Component, then plug the audio from the Xbox360 into a small mixer along with your mic. Then plug the output of the mixer and the HD video from the Xbox into a capture card like this one.

Now you can play the game and talk into the mic, using the mixer to control the levels of each. The whole shebang will then be recorded by your capture device.

u/YibberYabber · 3 pointsr/xbox360

It is stupidly easy. I just went through with it recently. Went from an old original xbox to the Gears3 xbox. All you need is this:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Data-Transfer-Cable/dp/B003S9WJ9A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321038009&sr=8-1

Pop out your old harddrive connect it to this, plug it into the usb of the new one boot up and it will walk you through it. Just make sure that you select all the things you want to take over (e.g. saved game data) took only a couple of minutes and I was up and running.

u/AndySchneider · 3 pointsr/xboxone

I just want an Xbox One Quick Charge Kit, like for the 360.

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Quick-Charge-Kit/dp/B0041CWZEM/

I have two external battery packs charged and ready, and when the one in my controller dies, I just snap one new battery block into my controller. Hugely satisfying.

Fiddling around with batteries doesn't come close. But with the new Xbox One controller design, I don't see how this old battery block design would work. Too bad, it was a great idea.

u/boxsterguy · 3 pointsr/htpc

> I hear Xbox controllers work great, but they are so expensive comparatively.

How many controllers do you need? How often are you buying new controllers? The "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows" (includes the wireless dongle, does not include a rechargeable battery but does include 2 AAs) is currently about $50. Adding a Quick Charge Kit and spare battery is an optional ~$45 that you can spend later. Also, I believe that the wireless dongle allows multiple controllers to connect to it (I haven't verified this, though), so you can buy "regular" Xbox 360 wireless controllers for players 2-4.

Or you can get a wired controller for $34 and skip all the battery stuff.

I guess that's kind of expensive, but they Just Work^tm so you don't have to keep messing around with them or replacing them.

I have an X-Arcade Tank Stick and I'm mostly satisfied with it, but that's not to say I don't have issues with it.

The joysticks are a bit flaky. I've had to open the case up a couple of times to adjust the throw angle of the switch rods so that I wasn't getting misfired directions. The quality of the sticks also feel much less than my Neo-Geo MVS.

My other issue is that playing more than 10-15 minutes, my right hand will cramp from the layout of the buttons.

A couple months ago, I bought an arcade stick for my Xbox 360: http://www.amazon.com/Real-Arcade-Pro-VX-Xbox-360/dp/B0041S9U8A

This has been my first exposure to Japanese-style arcade controls and it's an amazing difference. I don't get hand cramps from the buttons because their layout is contoured to match the curve of your hand. The joystick feels very obviously superior to the X-Arcade's and I feel like I play better using it. The buttons are extremely responsive and take very little pressure to activate.

I'm sure it's diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks as far as control layouts go, but when you buy the X-Arcade product, you're pretty locked down in the experience you're going to get from it, from the look of the whole product to the controls to their positioning. That's a benefit in some ways, because it allows products like the Xtension Arcade Pedestal (which I use) to exist for those of us without any woodworking skills: http://www.recroommasters.com/Xtension_Arcade_Pedestal_Arcade_Cabinet_p/rm-xt-ped.htm

What would be great is if X-Arcade sold a controller that used panels like the MadCatz Fightsticks so that there would be some real customization options. (see http://www.tek-innovations.com/arthobbies/index.cfm?loc=products&cat=11 )

Real Arcade Pro VX SA

These are the sticks I have. About the same look as the 3rd one you linked but only 120$ instead. It works great on PC and 360.

u/huenchu · 2 pointsr/SF4

well i'd recomend you, since you want something under 100€, to go and buy a hori Real arcade Pro from amazon spain or amazon uk it's the stick I have now, it works flawlessly and it's perfect for a long term usage (sanwa FTW). my experience with a cheap stick (tatsunoko vs capcom fightstick for wii) was not good because Standard editions don't have good parts so these don't last long and a year later you end up buying another one...and that's not good (for me at least). if you want something cheaper you can get a brawl stick or mayflash stick (I don't really recomend these but there are really good players that use them :P). at the end it depends on how much you take care of your stick (my wii stick still works with a re-soldered cable and a few new buttons, but my bluetooth adapter doesn't so I bought a wired stick for pc :P)

u/GLHFScan · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I'd wait for the Madcatz deal. That stick doesn't look bad and the price isn't too bad either but (this is just personal opinion) it has a bat-top stick and the button layout is arched, which I dislike. If both of those issues are fine with you, go ahead and get it. $90 is not bad at all for a stick, considering even a typical Hori stick will cost you $40-50 more. Again, I have no first hand experience with the Injustice fight stick, so it may well be solid, but I've never had a problem with Hori or Madcatz.

A couple things that I think you're missing are that games do get cheaper with age even on the consoles, so they're not always way up there at $60. I can buy a copy of Mass Effect 3 on the console for under $20 right now. I can buy Halo 4, a Triple-A console exclusive from 6 months ago for under $30.

As far as discounts from Steam and other sites, most of those are joint ventures with the publishers that could exist in the console space as well. Valve has come out and said that the Steam Sales are great for profits, and shares that data with publishers to get them on board for more. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo don't control the prices of games, the publishers do, and there's no reason to think that they wouldn't organize sales for their digital distribution platforms as well after seeing it's great for revenue. Sales like that aren't feasible in the brick-and-mortar world of game sales because of the prohibitive nature of organization and promotion. It's nothing comparable to loading up the online store and seeing "25%-75% off Ubisoft Titles this week only!"

u/Accidentus · 2 pointsr/halo

I guess I didn't answer a lot of your questions, but the cheapest place to buy H4 is on Amazon. It's actually on sale for pretty cheap at the moment.

In terms of tips, learning the maps is the easiest way to get better. Site lines, common spots people are, callouts. Also, don't forget to use your nades. A lot of BF and CoD players don't use their grenades enough.

So I've had this third party xbox 360 controller for a while, and the right stick has this weird issue where no matter how you control the stick, in game the camera can only move diagonally, so basically when you move the right stick to the right, the x-axis and the y-axis increase at the same time. Anyone have any pointers on trying to fix this? I've done multiple driver resets across multiple pcs, but it has not worked properly once. And incase its unfixable, whats a cheap xbox controller I can get thats wireless and works perfectly?

u/Fortehlulz33 · 2 pointsr/gaming

Boom. Not Logitech, but similar concept.

u/drfoqui · 2 pointsr/Borderlands

I think you should at least give it a shot. As much as it can be frustrating because you don't have control over what other people do and they may take loot you want, etc., the game is also designed to be played in coop so there are a lot of cool things you will not experience if you only play solo, mainly in terms of the interactions and synergies between the different Vault Hunters' skills.

Like I said in a response below, the best way to do it is with friends but if that's not possible, be patient and consistently stay away from people who play like assholes (leave the game or kick them out of yours) and add nice people to your friend list in order to keep playing with them in the future. This has resulted in a lot of really satisfactory gameplay for me in BL2. Also, this subreddit can be a good resource to find cool people to play with.

Finally, as much as many people are ok with playing with you if you don't have a mic, it is something that really enhances the experience so maybe you could consider investing in one. You don't need to spend $100, there are more budget friendly options like this one or this one that some people will hate on but they work perfectly fine if you adjust your expectations to the amount of money you're spending and they will last if you treat them with care. Even this is an interesting option if you're on Xbox and I'm sure there's similar alternatives for other systems.

u/mouthsmasher · 2 pointsr/xboxone

What 360 headset are you talking about that costs $50? I quite easily found official Xbox 360 headsets on Amazon for $8.85 and $14.99. Heck, they're even selling their wireless, Bluetooth headset for only $35.

So $25 for a cheap plastic wired headset seems pretty ridiculous to me.

u/kupaa · 2 pointsr/SF4

You could get a Soul Calibur stick for $70 or a SFxT stick for $80.

Having a stick is not necessary to play Street Fighter. You could also get a fightpad for $15.

u/FDFreaK · 2 pointsr/SF4

While I can't vouch for the quality of either stick, the Qanba Q1 also looks like a fair option for a good entry-level stick. However, for less money than it would cost to buy replacement Sanwa parts, you could get a MadCatz TE which is pretty much the gold standard of fight sticks.

u/tachikara · 2 pointsr/SF4

Or you can just go with Amazon, $100 for a brand new stick (albeit the buttons are placed slightly different from standard sf4 layout)

http://www.amazon.com/Catz-SoulCalibur-Arcade-FightStick-Xbox-360/dp/B006EJ38X2/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1382466139&sr=1-1&keywords=xbox+fightstick

u/Bakamoichigei · 2 pointsr/Steam

Ch-RIST! I didn't even know Razer made an arcade stick, but I'm certainly not surprised they'd try to sell it for 2x what the competition does.

My suggestion would be to get a Mad Catz stick. Same Japanese parts, and it's what almost all the top fighting game players use. You get an Xbox 360 one, it'll be PC compatible, but as a 360 controller. Costs $99. Like this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006EJ38X2

Then at some point, if you want multi-console compatibility, you drop another $40 on a Phreakmodz Cerberus PCB... That's a drop-in modification that'll make it PC(Native)/PS3 compatible as well.

u/b4kedpie · 2 pointsr/Fighters

When I first switched to stick, I lost so many matches that I knew I could win if I had used a pad. I just didn't have the muscles in my left hand (wrist and fingers) to coordinate smooth movement. And when executing special moves, I would always push the button with my right hand before motion is complete with my left, so I'd be doing down, down-forward+punch, forward and led no special. The push buttons will be easy to learn. You'll just have to get used keeping your right hand raised above the buttons because the buttons are very, very sensitive. Like the weight of my sleeve would make the buttons activate.

When you first start practicing special motions like qcf+p go slow then gradually speed up. You want to keep your left and right hands in-sync. But also don't be afraid to mash and jerk the shit out of it. It's a tank and can take the abuse. Also, stick with the square-gate, you'll get used to it.

Get any stick with full sanwa parts. These are generally the Tournament Edtion sticks from Madcatz or Hori.

Recently, the Madcatz Soul Calibur V TE has been the cheapest.
It's at $100 now. Has dropped to $70 a few times like during Evo week. $100 is an awesome deal, because it'll last. After 5 years, mine still works great.

http://www.amazon.com/SoulCalibur-Arcade-FightStick-Edition-Xbox-360/dp/B006EJ38X2/

u/deific_ · 2 pointsr/Injusticegame

It's all down to preference man. I am terrible with pads, so I got a fightstick, it feels more natural to me. Some are crazy good with pad.

If you are going to get a fightstick, I have two recommendations. Ebay and amazon. I got a sf4 madcatz TE on ebay for little under 100$. Also, check out the soul calibur stick on amazon, that thing is always on sale... I bought one of them for 60$. It is a madcatz stick with sanwa parts, but the buttons are wired different than most sticks. Its easy to open it up and swap the button arrangement though.

If you ever play on ps3 also, and are interested in a dual modded stick, you will have to put up some money. Arc8 and qanba sticks are dual modded out the box I believe, if not all of them, some models are. You can dual mod any stick, just gotta buy the parts and make it happen.

Edit: the soul calibur soul edition stick is 99$ brand new on amazon. It is the same as a madcatz TE. It might interest you.

Here is a link to the stick. Soul Calibur stick

Just to give you an idea, this is what I did with my soul calibur stick because I didn't like the look of the stick itself. I'm not into soul calibur. My ex-soul calibur stick

As for the weird button mapping that this stick has compared to other sticks, it is easily fixable in 5 minutes with a phillips screwdriver. Just open the top, pull off the connecters from the buttons and remap them to where you want by plugging them back in. It really is a non issue. If you want a problem free, brand new, quality stick, this is the route to go IMO. Having been that you have never even used a fightstick, the weird button mapping will probably not even be noticed by you because you won't know the actual TE button layout. I'll assist you if it is something that bothers you and we can get it fixed in 5 minutes.

Also, congrats on your upcoming baby. My sister had her first child this afternoon. A little baby girl. Which means I guess I'm an uncle now. It makes me feel old.

u/Yokuo · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

But... Walking Dead Risk has a unique feature to it. Not only do you fight other survivors, you also fight hordes of walkers. I thought that was a pretty cool little extra thing they threw in.

Once again, if you like Walking Dead, have you read the comics? They're better than the show (and pretty different, story-wise!), and a great read. I can't find the Compendiums on there, but I did see the Omnibuses, which include over 500 pages per volume (I think there are 4 of them?)

If you decide to get a game even though you have enough at the moment, grab South Park: The Stick of Truth. It's shaping up to be amazing and a really good companion to the show. Plus, it doesn't release until November, giving you enough time to wrap up your current stuff.

If you'd like to watch something, I'm disappointed in myself for not already suggesting Community. Amazing show, but you need to start at the beginning to really appreciate the later episodes, as there are tons of references to older episodes in this show. It's been criticized as being "weird" and "inaccessible", but it's by far one of my favorite shows on TV.

u/DisgruntledBadger · 2 pointsr/StreetFighter

Back to the original point....

The stick can be used on PC fine but you will need to use a 3rd party app like X360CE to map the buttons, alternatively if you are going to just use it on PC, you can buy any xbox 360 stick and it will work out the box.

The problem with the small ones is because they are so light they can just move around and dont give an acurate experience of the full size ones.

If you can stretch to it this Razer Atrox is a bargain at $80.00 as it comes with full sanwa parts the same as the TE2 sticks by Madcatz

u/Lamat · 2 pointsr/Fighters

Are you going to be playing on PC? If so, the Razer Atrox is on sale for 100 dollars right now. It has Sanwa parts (brand name, high quality), easy to mod. It also lets you play on xbox 360, unlike that Carbon.

I use Xbox 360 controller. It works amazing. Most games have it already setup and the keys map as soon as you plug the controller in.
The controller I use. I honestly hate the keyboard/mouse. (will probably get hate for that) but I cant stand them. I have played on consoles only except for the last year or so and I still love the controller.

u/Destillat · 2 pointsr/RocketLeague

If you're doing KBM out of necessity but think you'd be happier playing with a controller, I'd say go controller.

I am 100% on board w/ keyboard but that's because it's how I play games, especially games with driving, unless I absolutely can't for some reason (Super Meatboy was just impossible at some parts for me without a controller, I can play emulators with a keyboard but when you start getting into the Playstation era it gets a bit difficult and less fun).

I choose to not use a controller because I know that A) I will be objectively worse and B) I just like how KBM feels.

It sounds like you might be happier with a controller. I don't know much about the steam controller so I can't really give specific recommendations, but back in the day I bought one of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Afterglow-Wired-Controller-SmartTrack-Technology/dp/B00EZKNT18/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492030420&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+afterglow

Relatively cheap. This was probably around 2010 and it's still kicking today (admittedly I use mine a lot less than others would).

If you're interested in some of the features that the steam controller can offer via steamplay or whatever its called, I'd say hold out for that.

If you decide to go the keyboard route, mechanical KBs exist for cheaper than what you see on sale from the standard selection RAZER BLACKWIDOW XXX DEATH RGB SLICER TURBOv2 OWNAGE . I use a razer at home and a Rosewill for work, the Razer is nice but it was really indulgent and doesn't add much that the Rosewill doesn't have other than macro keys.

I've also just played on regular old keyboards and they work fine, so barring a mechanism failing (like you've described in your setup) really any keyboard should be about as good as the next.

u/PsychoBoyBlue · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

What are your thoughts on the Xbox One controller and where can you get one that looks that amazing?

I play a lot of twin stick shooters and platformers and my Afterglow 360 controller I got for $20 2 years ago just isn't cutting it anymore.

If your TV does indeed do 1024x768 then you should be fine with it.

You should be fine at standard-defintion resolutions (480 vertical pixels) using the yellow (composite) cable that comes with the console, but a component cable should give a sharper picture even on standard-definition (depending on your TV and the quality of your eyesight) and will take full advantage of the resolution of a 1024x768 telly.

  • Component cable for Xbox 360
  • Component cable for PS3

If you're buying a new telly soon, then maybe see if you can get away with the yellow composite cable for a while, because any new TV will have an HDMI cable, and that will give a better picture (depending the TV and your eyesight) than component. The HDMI cable will be a bit cheaper, and you'd always choose it over component.

I'm not aware of any gameplay differences between the two consoles. Someone said in another post that the E3 demo units were 360s, so that was what the early development must have been done on, so the title must be better and more "native" to that console. Personally, I don't think it makes any difference.

I have a PS3 (and I actually bought a new PS3 for Rocksmith) and I think it's a better console, from a hardware point of view - I've had my PS3 for over 4 years and it's still going great. Early models of the 360 had a terrible failure rate and I still think of it as a "cheap" console; however the latest slim models look like they've fixed these problems, and they're a fair chunk cheaper than the PS3. I kinda feel like the 360 is less cost, if you just want to see if you get along with Rocksmith.

My copy of Rocksmith hasn't arrived yet, but it's a bargain compared to the cost of guitar lessons. If it works even reasonably well then buying a console to play it on is still a bargain compared to, say, 10 or 20 hours of lessons.

I agree with CybaRJJ here. This is becomming an oddly common issue with Panasonic TVs and 360s. Although I do see Sony having it as well. At this point there really isn't any way to remove it from the blacklist (firmware update has worked for some, but as with all firmware updates... proceed at your own risk).

I would honestly recommend picking up the Component HD cable. I'm certain your 42" supports it and it's 6 bucks on Amazon. You'll get that same HD video, but only stereo audio unless you've got an optical cable to plug into you receiver.

http://www.target.com/p/just-cause-2-xbox-360/-/A-11029628#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=just+cause+2

This is just one example. Dirt Showdown follows suit ($29.99 GoD, $19.47 on Amazon), as does XCOM: Enemy Unknown ($39.99 GoD, $24.18 Amazon).

I love the thought of going digital. But I'm not going to pay a premium to do so, especially when it doesn't have the overhead that pressing, packing, shipping, and distributing physical media does.

As you may have noticed, the 360 and the 360S use entirely different shaped HDDs. Sucks for anyone who's upgrading an existing console.

Luckily, MS offers such gamers the Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer Cable. This lets you copy the entire contents of an existing 360 HDD to the new 360S HDD. I do not know if it wipes the HDD on the receiving end, but this is the cable you're looking for.

They can release it for free. They would have to remove achievements though. Several games break the rules and release DLC for free with achievements.

There are rechargable batteries that are not 3rd party. These are just the black ones, but they do have white also (maybe more). Both come with rechargable batteries. http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Quick-Charger-Kit/dp/B0041CWZEM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311452674&sr=8-1

I personally like the quick charger. Get 2 rechargable batteries then you can alternate between the 2.

The console life is only halfway over. It's already longer than any previous console EVER! 6 years now and 6 more to go! No reason to make a new one if the current one's sales keep going up from previous years. The whole point of this reddit is so they can listen and use what sounds good. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/308963/ms-xbox-360-about-halfway-through-its-lifecycle/

If you own a 360, this is a pretty much a requirement:

Eliminates the issue you are describing. Would have been nice to have it built in, but with that and a spare battery, I always have one full on the charger and one in my controller. Works well.

u/zeoliet · 1 pointr/minimalism

When I still had my xbox, I liked this solution. I had 2 controllers, and 2 rechargeable batteries. It's got a light to tell you how charged the battery is. Most of the time, it was just me playing alone, so I could always have the spare battery in the charger. If the xbox warns you when your battery is getting low (I honestly don't remember), easy enough to just pop it in the charger when you're done.

Well, I wouldn't recommend a shooter for consoles. First person shooters are meant for PC... in my opinion, of course. BF3 for PC is tons and tons of fun.

Seeing as your mac can't handle too much, I suppose I'll make some console recommendations.

Do you like racing games? Forza 4 is great, especially with this racing wheel.

MX vs. ATV Alive is awesome if you are into motocross.

Socom 4 for PS3 is pretty fun online as well. Great third-person shooter, but may take a little getting used to. I just like it because I played the original Socom on PS2 and it does a good job sticking to the same sort of style of gameplay.

I was playing F1 2010 and 2012 with a Wireless Speed Wheel ... way better than a controller, but a bit awkward without the feedback. The wheel is miles ahead....since I'm a windows xp hold out till my next computer build (hopefully early next year) I'm limited by the games I can play, but live for speed and F1 2011 are pretty awesome. I didn't think I'd have fun playing euro truck simulator (who would?), but it's pretty awesome...I find myself taking racing lines on the freeways trying not to flip the truck.

If you just want something cheap the Xbox 360 Wireless Speed wheel is a good choice. It's not as nice as the other wheels mentioned in this thread. But I like it much better than using a controller. It gives me more fine control than the thumb stick. The triggers are a bit bigger, which makes it easier to control throttle/breaking. There's no lag. The only issue with it is it's missing the LR bumpers.

  • To The Moon (sweet looking 16 bit game that is more of an interactive story. It routinely makes people cry because it's so darned sweet. Love is a central theme.) = computer
  • Borderlands 2 and/or Borderlands the PreSequel (both fun and funny FPS games that you can run coop if you like) = BORDERLANDS 2: computer - XBOX360 - PS3 === BORDERLANDS PRESEQUEL: computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Portal (fun and funny puzzle game - but he MAY have already played this if the Half-Life 2 he got was the full "The Orange Box")
  • Portal 2 (also fun and funny, but with a coop mode as well) = computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Fallout 3 and/or Fallout: New Vegas (Post apocolypic games that are fun and often funny. They are open world RPGs with FPS playing style, although you can switch to 3rd person. Fallout 3 is more epic, grand and is more metropolitan, and Fallout New Vegas is more like a spaghetti western, intimate, and has better writing/storyline in my opinion) = FALLOUT 3: computer - XBOX360 - PS3 == FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS: computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Mass Effect 1, 2, & 3 (RPG/FPS set the future, in space, where the storyline continues, using your decisions from the previous games) = computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Red Dead Redemption (an open world RPG/FPS that takes pages from both spaghetti westerns and film noir. If you get this, be sure to get the add on called "Undead Nightmare", where you fight Zombies and meet mythical creatures. The base game is more artsy, and Undead Nightmare is just a squat load of fun.) The links that follow have both thenormal game, and Undead Nightmare in one. = XBOX360 - PS3

  • A different idea is to actually get him a wireless controller for his phone! If he has an Andriod, I would suggest the Power A Moga Hero Power It's portable, holds the phone, and I just am in love with mine. And because I have an Andriod, I can download ROMs to play older games like Zelda: Ocarina of Time, etc etc. But the controller works with SO many games! If he has an iPhone or iPad, or if you want another option for Android, I would go with the iPega. I don't have one, but it has the highest reviews.

As for if you should give 1 or 2 gifts, I think 2 might be a lot of fun! But it might depend on what the "1st place" person has on their list and what you want to give them! I'd say make the decision based off of what you want to give the main winner! =)

    ===========

EDIT - 3DS Games to consider:

  • Fire Emblem: Awakening - it's one of the best RPGs out for the 3DS. It's immersive and epic. Top reviews across the board.
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf because everyone loves it so much and it's just adorable.
  • Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney because anything Phoenix Wright related is flipping amazing and totally fun.
  • Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance A great option if he's played other Kingdom Hearts games.
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Especially if he's into Zelda, I agree with others that this is a nice option. Top-down action that returns to Zelda's roots.

edit 2: P.S: I'm new. I'll be making an intro post hopefully tonight! So hopefully it's alright that I posted here first. I was just excited, as I'm a gamer and love helping people with what to play next. In any event... HI!!

I have one friend who plays all the time. That might just be enough.

And ok! Would this be a good way to go about it?

u/DrOCD · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I love the Halo series. I played it with my older brothers all the time. We would play it whenever we were all together and as we have gotten older and have moved further away from each other, it is still something that brings us together. I currently have my girlfriend's copy of Halo 4 (she let me borrow it while I was recovering from surgery and she lives 5 hours away) and I need to get my own copy so I can play with her when she's 5 hours away and so I can continue to play Live with my older brother. So I am linking you to Halo 4

Are there any recommended Bluetooth headsets that just go on one ear like the 360 wireless headset did: Xbox 360 Wireless Headset with Bluetooth https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005FMLXW2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_kuTJxbTFAA2WR

I'm not looking for a huge gaming headset that covers both ears. Just something simple I can use in one ear and hear myself talk. I'd listen to it for chat audio and regular game sound through my speakers.

u/Shockum · 1 pointr/PS3

Are you referring to this?

u/Goosebeans · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

There aren't any solid solutions that will be both device agnostic and inexpensive, unfortunately. If you end up sticking with the X360, my favorite has been the XBox 360 Wireless Headset. Alternatively I had an extra set of Plantronics M Series earloop and eartips that I stuck onto the 'set and I find them to be much more comfortable / better at remaining in place. In all, with the optional kit, can run you from $25-$40 (sometimes you'll find a dirt cheap sale on the communicators somewhere, especially for like the MW3 edition). Personally I wouldn't go any higher in cost for an X360 solution, unless you go full-blown with an Astro Mixamp Pro and a favorite, high quality headset (expect to spend anywhere from $200-$500 altogether, or higher if you go really nuts).

A solid, dollar for dollar, PC / PS4 solution would be to get the SteelSeries v2 paired with an adapter like this ($60-$80 solution, depending). The DS4 has a 3.5mm jack that will support in-game sound as well as chat. The downside to it is it's a little underpowered. A lot of people don't have issues with it, but I'm rather picky. Thankfully the SteelSeries v2 only has a 32 Ohm impedance and an accompanying low-ish sensitivity level. So they don't take much to drive, but still -- to me the sounds for anything on the DS4 are a little muddy. To forego it, you would need to spend a little more money. Next step up, which works great for the PS4, would be the Sony Wireless Gold for around $80, but while it's a great solution for the PS4 I find it subpar on the PC. To get better sound out of the PS4 you would have to go the Astro Mixamp Pro route.

For PS4 you could also go the opposite direction in pricing and get the $12 PS Vita Earbuds and just shove those in the DS4 jack. While still an inline mic (will be picking up a lot of ambient noise) these are far better than what you can get out of the packaged earbud / mic with the PS4. If your soundcard doesn't support mic input via the headphone jack and only has the separate 3.5mm, can always use another adapter that goes in the reverse. Or just simply save up for a different headset for PC.

Was the console one of the older "phat" models? Looks like this . If so, and provided is has that kind of hump, you can buy an Xbox 360 Data Transfer Cable . I'd also like to note that this will also work for a slim models hard drive but I don't recall if the slim models came with one or if it was an add in later. Hope this helps ya and good luck.

u/Toamikel · 1 pointr/xbox360
u/SadXbox · 1 pointr/xbox360

a transfer cable will work, as long as you get the revised version that has the proper end for the hard drive used by the 360 S and E consoles.

But as /u/bemon mentioned, if you don't have a lot to transfer, it's probably cheaper and easier just to use a USB drive.

I got this a few days ago and I am very, very satisfied with my purchase.

These are an absolute steal for $100 (even more so if you can find it locally for cheaper as I did) because they use the same components as they do in the TE sticks, which are upwards of $200 on some of them.

The button layout took no more than 15 minutes to get used to, so don't be put off by it if you were used to the American style layout.

u/Cynfidel · 1 pointr/Skullgirls

I can't recommend this stick enough. The art may be terrible (a little time and effort can fix that), and the hardware may not be as good as Sanwa parts, but its definately worth $40.

I'm really hard on mine, and I finally managed to make a button stop working after almost a year of owning it. The best part about it is that you can drop in high-quality Sanwa parts when the stock stuff wears out.

And I have absolutely no idea why the Xbox 360 version is $100. You can get a Soul Calibur V stick (I believe that's the TE) on Amazon for that much.

u/Pvtmiller · 1 pointr/Fighters

This seem like a good thread to mention it that the Madcatz SCV stick is currently on sale for 70$ on amazon. It seems like an absolute steal to me considering it has full sanwa parts.

u/MahDarling · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Bioshock: Ultimate Rapture Edition.
Firstly, I always read this as "Ultimate Raptor Edition." Which is fantastic because adding raptors into Bioshock would be the most awesome thing since sliced bread!
Elsewise, it would be a huge sentimental thing to me to have these games in physical copy. I have played the trilogy (Bioshock, Bioshock 2 and Infinite) on Steam. I didn't really get into gaming until a couple years ago, besides handheld games & Oregon Trail. So Bioshock was one of the first games I looked at and knew that I wanted to play. I had never heard a single review, no one had ever recommended it to me, nothing. I walked into that game with an open mind and my mind was blown.

The graphics, the gameplay, and the storyline were all so cool to me! I had never in my life been so engrossed in a game. I sat for hours just pouring over stupid minute details like searching trashcans, killing Splicers in different ways for achievements... everything! It was the first time I realized that games were not just for fat pimply nerds who wanted to make something un-fun because of the amount of analyzation and plot-hole nitpicking required to adequately bitch with other people, hammering away on keyboards, bitching with other people in fan forums. Games are for anyone willing to buy into a storyline, uncover details, make ethics-based choices, have a twitchy pinky finger from hitting "Shift" to bring up menus, and stare at a bright computer screen until they nodded off from exhaustion.

I was finally at home. I began to outwardly embrace my nerd. Screw the girls who held me at arm's length because I knew details of the Original Star Trek universe! Overzealous Firefly fans became friends. I wear superhero tshirts and can answer the trivia questions of the dudes who think I'm just a bandwagon "geek."

I own a goddamn Hanes blue manual for every incarnation of the USS Enterprise. I cross-stitched a "Home is where the [picture of xbox controller] is" because I could.

And all because of Bioshock. I was finally at peace with my dorky self because of a game that opened my eyes.

I bought a used Madcatz SFIV stick on eBay. It works OK -- I've since bought a second used one and between the two have one that works.

However, not too long ago, Amazon had the Atrox Razer for Xbox 360/PC for just $89.

I've found that my Atrox arcade stick is leaps and bounds a far better product than the Madcatz ones. The Madcatz one just feels cheap: the buttons, the stick, event the base, it just feels cheap.

Compared to the Madcatz, the Atrox is heavier, on all accounts. It's much bigger, the buttons are heavier, and have more push in their depression (albeit much more sensitive than the Madcatz). Just my experience, but I'm always looking for deals on the Atrox to pick up another one.

u/street_fight4r · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

Are you sure? Some people are saying that even the 360 version has a problem: RT and LT buttons don't work. I think that means right trigger and left trigger, so PPP and KKK.

Most people use TeamSpeak, Skype, or Discord when playing with others

I would get a Xbox controller as most games use it as a base (I use the Xbox 360 Afterglow controller)

Here are the free games I've played. I highly recommend Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion, but all of them are pretty good

If you want to see games I recommend (but aren't free) just tell me =)

u/ZappaKappa · 1 pointr/buildapc

I don't think that PCSX2 and SCPServer are related, since PCSX2 is a PlayStation 2 emulator and SCPServer is a DS4 connector. However, I've read a lot about the usefulness of the PS4 controller for gaming and from what I've read, you're better of using a Xbox controller because microsoft acually supports that. I find it kinda strange that this sub recommended you the PS4 controller since steam doesn't fully support it, while is does support a Xbox controller for most games.

You might want to sell your PS4 controller on Ebay and check if there are any cheap Xbox controllers for sale, or look at some aftermarket controllers like this one

I myself bought the console because I was a peasant and now I just use it for some exclusives and now and then to use the controllers on my pc.

I am not being a dick but Halo 3 is cheap as hell. Yeah of course free is always better.

Or if you want you can spend $14 for ODST new and get the Halo3 multiplayer with all maps instead of waiting for M$'s bullshit.

u/hypermog · 0 pointsr/gaming

For any game with an online mode, buying it used will be obsolete by the end of this year. For the rest, eh, buying used games is jank. Can't speak to canada, but Amazon almost makes up the price difference here in the US. Plus the dudes that made the game get some money.

Case in point, tons of games on Amazon have $ off your next game promotions, for instance this. Because of those, my God of War 3 preorder is currently at $26.99.

Some reviews are as you say, but that is just a subset and halo 4 recieved good reviews from EVERYONE, even on sites that the reviews are based on user scores. It also got great customer reviews. You've just been on this subreddit to long not to see that. The only people that don't like it are the people that don't have much interest in the campaign and only care about multiplayer.

You can just look at amazon and wiki to see how good the critic and customer reviews are. Might surprise you to get out of this subs hate circlejerk of the game for a change.
