I liked that full suited roundhouse kick from that dude. I was not expecting BOTH of them to be in suits.
Road ragers are one of the reasons I got a dashcam. Especially living in LA with all the angry, fucked up people here. I have a no name cam but TBH I should've gone with the A119 that was recommended by everyone on here. I actually just ordered the A129 Pro duo that just came out for wife's car. Looks like a really nice cam.
EDIT: Also, really recommend a high endurance SD card like this since dashcams put a lot of read/write cycles on sd cards.
This is the model I have. It doesn't have a battery at all, just a capacitor to give it enough power to save the video on shutdown. This accident was unusual because the entire electrical system is destroyed almost instantly, that's why it stops so quickly.
AUKEY Dash Cam, 1080p Dash Camera for Cars with 6-Lane Lens, 2.7 Inch LCD, Motion Sensor, Loop Recording and Night Vision https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07HVNCQF3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_nf7RDbB6RYGK8
Dashcams are the best purchase you can make for your car, it provides an unbiased view of what happened during an accident and will save you a lot of money in the long run. I was side swiped by a van whilst I was parked and the guy drove off without stopping, came back to my car and the camera had caught it all as soon as the car moved slightly. Highly recommend getting one and don't forget to get a large SD card for it, if you chose a high quality for the video you'll only get a few hours of footage with the 32GB size.
Would also recommend getting one that has GPS tracking on it as well as it can save your arse if you need to prove that you, or rather the vehicle, was somewhere else. Shop around on Amazon, I'm using this one and don't have any complaints.
Never submitted clips to the police of twats on the road, eventually they'll crash or be caught by a camera/officer. If you need examples of why you should get one though just look at the UK dashcam compilation on YouTube, there have been some occasions where the other drive has lied through their teeth only to be proved wrong by the camera.
As a claims adjuster for a major insurance company, this is easily the best advice you can get. So many claims come down to both drivers telling the truth. If the other driver decides not to, it's on you to prove them wrong if you expect their insurance to pay for your damages. Remember that.
I have one. You can get a great one for around $100 plus the cost of a decent SD card.
Edit

Watching that gave me a huge adrenaline shot too. Aren't you glad you have a dashcam though? If you had not braked in time, without any video insurance would likely determine that you're at fault. With video, that guy is now at least partially at fault for making an illegal turn (from a middle lane).
This is why I tell everyone to get a damn dashcam. IT's not hard. The /r/dashcams subreddit even as that sticky thread with recommendations that got updated and theres like a thousand different How-To videos on Youtube.
EDIT: FYI I recently decided to splurge on myself and upgrade to the new A129 Pro Duo
here are acouple ones to consider
Dual cameras
single camera
Not Cheap
NAL. First things first. Go somewhere safe and use something that shows your speed verified by GPS. Maybe Waze. Confirm that your speedometer is not under rating your speed. Side note: most speedometers over rate your speed by a few mph just to be safe. Then buy this one or this one if you want the GPS speed on your videos. They are wedge shaped and hidden pretty well. DO NOT announce that you are recording (MO is single party consent) or have a camera.
Now, if you get pulled over, politely state that you don't agree with the charge if it is again bogus, but then accept and sign it. Then when you go to court bring JUST THAT CLIP(no need to give them your last ~4 hours of driving; have heard of cops giving tickets based on that). Have it on a tablet or something else and also on a cheap flash drive that you don't mind giving away in case they need it. Complain that you keep on getting these tickets by the same officer.
Also bonus points, get the a118 (cheaper) and put it on your rear window where it's hidden to show him following you repeatedly and feel free to bring that if he sometimes follows you. Make a point to take a route that people don't usually take every time to make a point that he's specifically targeting you.
Wait, I'm famous??? Lol
And I was recommended the Apeman Dash Cam. I'm just not sure if I want to spend the extra $50 to get the rear camera as well. But I'm a bit tight on budget and have been recommended this one as a good cheap dash cam. It has great reviews, as well.
The Look on her face is priceless.
Btw, This is the one I got. Nothing fancy, but it's a good quality camera. Aukey Dashcam
I have both of these dashcams.
Have this. Works great, quality is good too. Haven’t had to use it for an actual accident so I can’t speak as to how the sensors pick up a crash, but I’ve pulled some footage from it and it looks good.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077B25H9K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_B8V6BbXSGYKMB
Head over to r/dashcam and you'll have all the information you'd ever want. The most commonly recommended one is the A119, which is the one I bought and so far it's great and I highly recommend it. Here is a link to the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IEQUABA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
FYI, Amazon cites this one as the "newer version" for $39.99: https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Camera-6-Lane-Motion-Recording/dp/B07HVNCQF3 looks like form factor has changed a bit, but still has great reviews. Seems like a great value.
> There are some on eBay that claim 1080p and have night vision for as little as $15, are they all garbage?
Garbage, pure garbage.
> If so what's the cheapest one that's at least ok?
So it depends what you want, IR dash cams are like this:
There are Uber/Taxi cams in the dash cam build:
This has an IR camera rear, so it can record the interior at night. It also shows you the weaknesses of an IR camera, limited IR light spread/brightness, distortion of color due to removing a filter (to be able to see IR light) ect.
Examples of IR spread: Warning Uber drivers with bad customers: Uber driver #1 or Uber driver #2
There are normal dash cams:
Dashcam + Micro SD card + Hardwire kit = cost. Different vendors offer different things included/excluded.
Discount code: Receive $10 off with "top5blackboxmycar" when shopping for a dash cam over $99.99 at BlackboxMyCar.com
*Note: I pulled a lot of links from BlackboxMyCar.com, but look around for the best price, I just wanted you to be aware of the discount code.
----------------
Excellent build quality, Excellent parking mode, Good/Fair video quality:
1 ch systems: These don't have wifi/cellphone app:
-------------
Lackluster parking mode, fair/poor build quality, Excellent video quality:
True 4K:
So 4k has a lot of "marketing" around it, some are sold as 4k, but are not 4k dash cams. This one is one of the few actual 4k dash cams on the market, but you give up a lot, and you will require larger 128/256 GB MLC based High Endurance product Micro SD cards, that have error correction built in. They will eat up the cards quicker, and may not what you want in the end.
-----------------
Or you could pick these:
Example of poor build quality:
-------------------
There is a huge amount of buyers remorse in dash cams. What I can say is fully research the dash cams you want, and the dash cams you don't, so at least you understand your decisions. Picking Excellent build quality, Excellent parking mode, and good/fair video quality dash cams is a lot less hassle, above I listed only Excellent build quality, Excellent parking mode, good/Fair video quality dash cams, but there are Excellent video quality, Fair/poor build quality, lackluster parking mode dash cams out there that is worth knowing about. Anyways good luck in your decisions.
*Edit: Prices change rapidly in the dash cam market, however, the copy pasta does not. I have seen prices rise rapidly, and fall just as fast, for no apparent reason, even as newer models have been released.
------------
So If I was going to spend money, I would pick: The Transcend 32GB Drive pro 520 or if I wanted a better IR spread, BlackVue DR650S 2CH IR, or Thinkware F770 CH IR.
If I was going for price, I would pick: the Xiaomi Yi Dash cam, it doesn't have IR, it should be taken out of the vehicle when not in use: Lipo batteries crack/leak/swell/ect and lens can spin around causing out of focus problem. There is no lack of problems with the Yi, heat problem, 165 ultra wide angle lens is too wide, causes fish eye, motion blur, and distorts distance/speed, build quality issues, not discreet. However if you take it out of the car when not in use, it is a runner. -
You can apply: Paint, or apply shelf liner - do not cover the vents. This extra step may void warranty, and may reduce the lifespan of the dash camera it self - Black heats up quicker than silver.
If I were to pick a dash cam for normal use: pointing towards the road: Thinkware F50 1CH or BlackVue DR4501 CH.
If I wanted a dual camera: well I would have to list them, and I haven't yet, and I am at 8000+ characters out of 10,000 for this post.
And get a fucking dashcam! For all those people (hopefully in the minority on this sub) that don't yet have one. Viofo A119 is like $89, way cheaper than any insurance issues you'll have
I uploaded a video the other day and left my SD card at home. The next morning when I went to work my A119 was chirping at me the entire way to warn me I didn't have a card installed. Of course on my way home I had some asshole run a red light and missed me by about a foot. I have like a 2 mile drive home and nearly got T-boned.
Buy a fucking dashcam, check it regularly to make sure it works. A118, A119, G1W-C or whatever the newest model is. It'll save you so much headache in the long run.
I went with a Veckle Mini 0906 for the duel front + back cam coverage and a 64gb microSD, so about 8 hours of recording time. The original quality is actually better, but I had to mess around with converting it until Reddit would accept the upload, which lowered the quality.
posted a reply to op but thought you might want to look into this
> going to piggy back off this comment: This dash cam is currently $123.49 w/ free shipping on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Veckle-Channel-Dashboard-Recorder-Recording/dp/B0746BCFBF
>Also it'd take just a moment to flip through some menus and delete the recordings.
The model of dashcam the cammer has here doesn't have a screen to flip through the menu system. It's wi-fi enabled so you'd typically use an app to do this:
https://www.amazon.com/Blackvue-DR650GW-2CH-Built-Wi-Fi-Recorder/dp/B00MC56AXM
I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DGS11CM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_iBaNDbD0CB7F2
Loving it so far. Crystal clear pictures, records front and rear at the same time, and I like the longer rear view mirror. Prior to this I had the Anker Roav, but that one is prone to battery swelling.
If you buy a decent dash cam it should be able to survive the heat without issue. I personally haven't had any issues with mine in the summer heat.
My recommendation would be the C1 Pro. It's a little on the expensive side, but it's a solid device by a reputable company.
It's Veckle Mini 0906
At first, the quality was set to fine and it was a little blurry, but after switching it to Super Fine, the quality is awesome.
this for example
Link You can find it for around $300. The power magic pro is what keeps it on 24/7, it will automatically turn off when it detects low battery in your car.
There are kits that come with two cams.
https://www.amazon.com/APEMAN-Recorder-Dashboard-G-Sensor-Recording/dp/B01F5BC6BE
OR better yet, just get a dashcam. Less than $100 to give you peace of mind. So if this happens to you, and you were the Lexus driver, you would have your own proof. The one on my truck has a rear facing one as well. I've captured quite a bit of close calls on it, including almost t-boning an asshole that decided to make a left in front of me when I had a green light and he was supposed to be yielding.
There are a lot of models out there, but for anyone that's interested in one: Crosstour External GPS HDR Both 170°Wide Angle Motion Detection G-Sensor Loop Recording(CR900) it has worked pretty well for me.
I don't know how anyone drives in this city without a dashcam

I have a Viofo A119 I’ve had for a few years now that I’ve had good luck with. There are a few different A119 variants but they all seem to do well. Here is a link to something similar to what I have.
There is a newer model that’s even cheaper.
Veckle mini 0906 - front and rear dashcam on a single power cable.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0746BCFBF/
The rear dash cam is key since the cops essentially blame all wrecks on the person in back.
Rexing V1
Rexing V1 4K
I am stoked to install this in my wife's car tonight. I decided to go for this one specifically since I wanted the GPS module with it. I previously have had the older generation A129 which was working beautifully and giving it to my friend, but I wanted to get this one cause of the 4k video. REALLY stoked about the video quality!
The viofo a129 duo pro. It's probably one of the best quality cams out there.
https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-Buffered-G-Sensor-Detection-Recording/dp/B07RXQJ148
It's the DR650GW-2CH. I have one in my car. I really like it, the quality is awesome.
Spy Tec G1W-CB Black Capacitor Edition Dash Camera| Full HD 1080P H.264 Car DVR Camera Recorder | Black Box Video Recorder | 120° Wide Angle Lens | Authentic NT96650 + AR0330 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YZ5G2GC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_BmC4xb8VPPKZT
Probably possible. Not sure if it would be worth it. A dash cam with motion detection and an additional battery might be enough to ease you worries. I had one installed and it makes me feel a little better.

Entre a amazon y al parecer la que compre me salió barata porque ya la iban a descontinuar (comprada Nov 17)
Una opción es:
APEMAN Dash Cam 1080P Full HD Mini Car Driving Recorder 170° Wide Angle, Motion Detection, G-Sensor, Loop Recording, Night Vision https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GFF7NLB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_MGcCCbF756V16
Link for the lazy.
I'd also recommend this one as it seems to be a upgraded version of the one I have and linked in another reply.
APEMAN - not bad for $50
I installed this one in my wife’s car, I’m very pleased with it.
Rexing V1P Pro Dual 1080p Full HD Front and Rear 170 Degree Wide Angle Wi-Fi Car Dash Cam with Built-in GPS Logger, Supercapacitor, 2.4" LCD Screen, G https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H4B75YL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_7PxQFxCfCGJyF
The bottom-right of the video says "dr650gw-2ch"
This is the one I use now. Most reliable camera I've owned and quite inexpensive.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DLWBPCA?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I've had it for a year and a half without doing anything to it aside from removing the SD card to retrieve videos, and it comes with a SD to USB reader. My brother recommended it to me because he had a year of no issues with it.
Sometimes they're on sale for $55-60, but it's a damn good way to spend $70 right now.
If anyone's looking for a good dash cam, these are cheap and work well.
If anyone is looking for a good dashcam, this one is the one I have. I've been using it about 2 months and no complaints so far. Video quality is good, and also records audio.
what did the manager and/or owner of this place have to say about the video?
also what setup is the camera's and such i like it...
after some googling( i have become quite good at it) this is what i found dashcam
if you got extra money to spend get the
https://www.amazon.com/BlackVue-DR650S-2CH-Recorder-Included-Support/dp/B00MC56AXM
if not you can get this one...great quality and tiny so it wont be noticeable
https://www.amazon.com/Mini0805P-Capacitor-G-sensor-OverTemperature-Protection/dp/B01MEDLYAB/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1501722275&sr=1-9&keywords=mini+dash+cam
Even though its hot in houston...i leave my dashcam on the windshield mount. Dont want to bother taking it off and on everytime. It's still intact and works fine. Only downside is the 3m tape..i would replace it..not good for the houston heat.
I use a GoPro, mostly because it doesn't get used anywhere else since I'm not InstaFamous.
Another option is this one, its inexpensive but good quality: https://www.amazon.com/Spy-Tec-G1W-CB-Capacitor-120%C2%B0/dp/B00YZ5G2GC/
I would recommend this one for $70 based on personal experience. It's not fun to have to remember to recharge a battery, this one is constantly powered and looks clean if you run the wire behind interior panels.
It’s an Apeman C550. I got it on amazon almost 2 years ago. It comes with a rear camera, mine seems to be a bit off now, not really sure what the issue is. Otherwise, it’s a good camera for the price. Amazon link to the newer version: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F5BC6BE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_a7kBCbSA8FQ26
I just picked up a VanTrue N2 and while the video quality is top-notch, I've found out after the fact that although it does record inside the cabin, it doesn't have night vision inside. As a result, it's basically no better than my cheapo $25 one. I'll be returning it and looking for something with night vision both inside and outside.
As for the pax, the ones that HAVE noticed it were really chill about it. I've had noone at all object to being recorded. I'm always quick to point out that it's for their protection as well as mine.
Just got this one. Quality is really good, and it has a lot of features.
Dual Dash Cam, Veckle Mini 0906 Dual Channel 1080P FHD Dashboard Camera Recorder with GPS, CPL Filter, Sony Night Vision Exmor Sensor, 7 Lens Wide Angle 1.5 inch LCD, Loop Recording Dash Cam for Car https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0746BCFBF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_oKKYBb04JTQRW
Most of them that have GPS do I think. But Blackburn is considered king. If you’re looking for the 900s, go with the whole kit
If you’re willing to spend a little more, I love my Rexing dash cam. It has a front and back camera, and you can download an app on your phone to watch the videos, it even connects through WiFi.
Edit: it also records your speed, which I love!
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DVJ5DB9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1#customerReviews
I've been running that one for a while now. Two camera set up at a decent price. If you get hit while the car is off it will record and because it's front and rear you are almost 100% fur sure gonna get their plates while they run.
All in all probably the best bang for your buck dashcam that could save you thousands of dollars in the long run.
Rexing V1P Pro Dual 1080p Full HD Front and Rear 170 Degree Wide Angle Wi-Fi Car Dash Cam with Built-in GPS Logger, Supercapacitor, 2.4" LCD Screen, G-Sensor, Loop Recording, Mobile App https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H4B75YL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_OPMkDbRX0BMG8
Always better to use amazon. Com more options better prices. Slightly longer shipping time
Option 1 (newer model, capacitor based, no battery)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07HVNCQF3/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile
Option 2 (this is the older capacitor based model and what I use)
https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Dashboard-Camera-Recorder-6-Lane/dp/B01M592J9C
The suction cup mount is useless and total junk. Stick to 3m tape mount option or find a rear view mirror mount.
Dude get a dash cam. You won't regret it.
Edit: here's a pretty popular low-cost one
I got this one just as a starter one basically. I heard good reviews for the price, and figured it would be a nice one to get me going. You have to make sure you get it from a real dealer because there are a lot fakes out there.
The ones I've seen are priced out of my reach but are definitely what a professional driver or trucker should have, dual camera, enough storage for almost a week of driving, and automatic upload to your own server when it comes into wifi range.
This would be the perfect setup for me, no need to deal with changing sd cards everyday, and ability to archive the records for however long I wanted.
https://www.amazon.com/Blackvue-DR650GW-2CH-Built-Wi-Fi-Recorder/dp/B00MC56AXM
blackvue dr650gw-2ch $399
Blackvue DR650GW-2CH Built-In Wi-Fi Full HD Car DVR Recorder, 64Gb With Power Magic Pro - Black
This one is the one I have. Hardwired to in, it can keep recording for 12 hours or so after you park- it has a voltage meter that keeps it from draining too much from the battery.
I've had good luck with this one, although I got it at $50. Very simple, it just works. I've had it in use for about 6 hours a day for a year now. I recommend that you take the time to run the power wire behind your headliner rather than just have the cord dangling all the time.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DLWBPCA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is the unit I got 4 of. APEMAN Dash Cam FHD 1080p. Got the recommended hardwire kit so they’re on when the car is on. Reviews are hit and miss. Mine have worked well for the past 2 years.
You might ask in r/CarAV.
The Black Box company line of G1W Dashcams is suppose to be from the official manufacturer in the USA. They have a full line of products that all show official packaging and manuals. Most legit company it seems with an actual support email and website -
Original G1W $58.95 - http://www.amazon.com/Black-Box-G1W-Original-Dashboard/dp/B00FONBG1A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409156204&sr=8-1&keywords=g1w

I have a G1W and it's been good. Make sure you are getting one from a reputable buyer, though. Also don't forget the microSD card!
I got mine from Black Box.
This might not answer all of your questions, but I've had a BlackVue 650GW-2CH for a couple of years now, and I've been very happy with it.
I bought a 64GB SanDisk Extreme card for the constant-overwriting durability, and use the smart power manager to make sure it turns itself off when my car battery reaches a certain level (so it doesn't kill it).
I know that they have some cloud-enabled versions out now, so I would recommend looking into that brand.
Hope that helps!
I love my Aukey dual dash cam. Cheaper too. https://www.amazon.ca/AUKEY-Wide-Angle-G-Sensor-Dual-Port-Charger/dp/B075VRXRD6/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1543073327&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=aukey+2cxh

Also previous had the Spy Tec G1W-C which was also very good, but I wanted a front and back camera.

Blueskysea is estore009's branding for the G1W and it's 100% real, where did you get it from?
I personally got my G1WH from Spytec in the US, and they seem to sell in Amazon.co.uk too. Here you go
WickedHD also seems to sell the real thing, at least that's what I could tell by looking at this video
Looks like this Old Shark dashcam. I have the same one. Works super well, I highly recommend it!
I have this one. It runs off a cigarette lighter plug. I just wired the plug into my fusebox so that I wasn't tying up a lighter port. If plugged into a ingition source (ie one that is only on when the car is on) the camera turns on and off with the car. There is a battery so you can take the camera out of the car and snap photos or video. It auto deletes footage so as you drive with nothing happening the older footage gets written over. There is a g sensor that will lock the footage on impact to prevent deleting important footage or you can press a button and lock the footage.
I have had this one for a year and it’s good. It’s a “set it and forget it” one.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DLWBPCA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0lScBb12K0HJK
I’ve had a dash cam for a few years...
Bought this one (Old Shark) in 2015:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01DLWBPCA?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title
It has a slightly frustrating button layout and internal menu, but the customer service is good (first one was broken out of the box, but they sent a new one within a week).
The internal battery died this year and it started resetting back to factory default every time I shut the car off... so back to Chinese every time and then it also stopped overwriting my files so I had to start deleting the SD card weekly.
Picture quality is great, however, and it’s not bad for $70 for 3 years of daily use if you don’t want to spend much money on one.
I went with the Roav for my current cam, though. $40 more, but it’s smaller and has more features. Was disappointed in the wi-fi/iPhone app as the connection speed is terrible. The footage is hi-res quality, but 35 minutes to download a 3 minute video is ridiculous. I can easily make it home and connect it to the computer before that finishes.
I just don’t want to spend $350 or more on one, so I guess i’ll make the sacrifices.
They seemed to have changed the design (maybe it's even better), but I have the older version of this cam in all 3 of our cars and it's been working great for quite some time. I live in upstate New York so while it doesn't get that hot, it's been through some hot sunny days. 1080p front cam, probably 240p rear cam. It used to be on the sidebar here.
(For some reason it has no reviews but it used to be highly rated with tons of reviews, seems to be removed for some reason, but you can see the 250+ questions)

I have a 64GB card for the front since it's 1440P and a 32 for the back (I have a slightly older 720P model). They both get about 3 days of record time or about 5 hours of driving.
The quality's actually significantly better than what Youtube shows, it was good enough to get the license plate off the car.
BlackSys CH100B. It's a 2-channel (front and rear) with Wifi, which allows me to view the videos instantaneously via its iPhone App. It was around $300.
BUT you don't have to spend a lot. The Viofo is a very good front cam. I bought them for a few relatives for Christmas. I recommend getting it hard wired to your car and use Custom Audio for install as their labor prices are very reasonable.

Viofio A119. $85, 2K, with GPS
This is what I use and its about as good as you can get for your budget https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IEQUABA
Records really well at night, better than 1080p resolution so it captures details like license plates and people moving around in the car. Comes with everything you need including a cable to get power from the cigarette lighter in your car. Get a decent 64GB high speed micro SD card like this one https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-microSDXC-Standard-Packaging-SDSQUNC-064G-GN6MA/dp/B010Q588D4 and youre set for less than $150.
It's this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072FVX74Q/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you are at all unsure about doing that yourself. Your local best buy will install it for around $100 and warrenty the install (not the camera)
I have a Blackvue DR900s 2ch. It has a kit that turns it off after a configurable amount of time or when the battery reaches a configurable voltage. It works great and allows me to get video of anyone who might hit my car while im parked or running errands.
https://www.amazon.com/BlackVue-DR900S-2CH-Hardwiring-Recording-Connectivity/dp/B07C3H8YXB/
They do make some dashcam backup camera combos. They're usually not that great, but it's better than nothing in the back.
If you put them low enough you can still see where you're parking, but at the same time still see out into the distance a bit.
Here's an example, I think it records the rear view in that top right corner.
Both of those are decently liked here. The only one that I'd add to your list is the Crosstour, which I've seen a few users recommend as reliable and it seems to be within your price range.
https://www.amazon.ca/Recorder-Crosstour-170%C3%83%C2%B0Wide-Detection-Recording/dp/B07DVJ5DB9/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=crosstour+dash+cam&qid=1568853192&sr=8-1
That really stinks, I hope your insurance can help fight for you on this one, especially since the person left the scene.
I'd highly recommend getting a front/rear dash cam. They average $100 on Amazon, but it's totally worth it and will help with situations like this. Here's one I found with a quick search:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07DVJ5DB9/ref=psdcmw_2230642011_t1_B0746BCFBF
$100 for front and rear.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07DVJ5DB9?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
Great investment for only $100. Front and back simultaneously recording.
I just bought two of these last week. I like them so far!
Thanks! Getting more and more accustomed to it every day. Coming from an 02' WRX, performance cars have come a long way.
The dash cam is this one here, picked it up over the holidays for $50 on an Amazon lightning deal. Looks like it's a few bucks cheaper now. No complaints so far and has all the basic features. Bought my wife an Anker Roav that seems a bit higher quality in terms of fit and finish.
Did the install myself, pretty easy to run the cord under the plastic trim and siding so it's completely hidden up until it drops down from the windshield.

I have a Roav C1, and it's fine but I only spent $50
If I did it over again, I'd spend a little more and get one with a capacitor instead of battery (better for high and low temps), make sure it had a rear facing camera, and could be hardwired to the fuse box. There's several of these on Amazon for under $200 these days.
Edit: something like this

I was running the [Vantrue] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0742J69SQ/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_hHOTCb6FKY0A2) but it's in my daughter's car now and I'm about to order the Viofo A129 Duo to try out.
I will also put a plug for the A129 Pro Duo. Also came with the little trim tool which was really helpful for running the cables to the rear cam. Has GPS tracking as well, though I keep the speed turned off the display. Still logs it in a separate file or metadata I believe.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RXQJ148?ref=myi_title_dp
You can't seen license paltes with most cams. It's not a resolution issue. It's because of the reflection. Even $600 cams have trouble picking plates up. The trick is to read it aloud and have it record the audio.
The 4k cam if you want it is also on sale https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-Buffered-G-Sensor-Detection-Recording/dp/B07RXQJ148
The Viofo A129 Pro Duo w/ GPS is available right now for $191.95 w/ free shipping, sold by OCD Tronic but it's fulfilled by Amazon.
If you're interested in one I'd hurry, there's only 7 left at the moment.
I got this one. It works pretty well, it turns on and off automatically which is the only feature I really care about. If you want fancy options like GPS, accelerometer, etc. there are better cameras out there. The picture could be a little better too. Basically you can read licence plates and road signs while stopped, but one you get moving the vibrations make them impossible to read. Again, fancier cameras with image stabilization are out there, but they cost a lot more.
I mounted it with a ram mount. the mount cost as much as the camera, but it works really well. I would highly recommend this mount. I can not think of a single improvement that could be made to it.

This is one of the ones I see recommended quite often, I bought mine almost two years ago (June 2014) and attached it behind my mirror, ran the wire up around the edge of the headliner, down through the A-pillar trim, under the dash, and to the cigarette lighter via the edge of the glove compartment. I also bought an add-a-fuse that I was planning on adding a hardwired cigarette lighter outlet for it but I never seem to get around to it.
Still works like new, gets great footage
I work with a few police officers and detectives at my job - they're mostly at lunch right now so I'll ask them for more advice when they get back. Off the top of my head, I could tell you the following:
Edit: Just talked to a few of my cop buddies and they gave me these additional points:
Edit: words
Congrats on a huge gift at a young age. You've gotten great advice form others on this thread so I'll keep most of my comments to what you asked:
The first "mod" I purchased and installed was a 2-channel Dashcam, wired to the fusebox to allow for recording when the vehicle is parked for hours while at work/school. While it won't prevent someone from messing with your car; it will at least capture what happened to help in identifying the perps and for insurance purposes. It will give you a lot of peace of mind.
You can also get the car wrapped.
Finally; just please don't be a mustang-douche. We get a bad rep on the road, some of which is earned, but just don't be that guy. It does seem like you understand how fortunate you are so as long as you keep that humble attitude then just have fun with the 'Stang. Welcome to the club.
Stick to sold by Amazon or spytec others are hit and miss on genuine units.

This one. It was recommended on /r/Dashcam, it's pretty good for the price.
I have one of these for my service truck. OldShark Dash Cam with 32GB Card, 3" 1080P HD Car Recorder 170 Wide Angle Night Vison Dashboard Camera with G-Sensor, Loop Recording, WDR, Parking Guard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DLWBPCA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_416gDb4S34G3H
It’s been reliable. The biggest drawback has been the suction cup that holds it to the windshield pops off at higher elevation. At this point I know almost exactly where on I-80 it will fall off (Blue Canyon).
I was shopping for an affordable dash cam for my father last year, this one came highly recommend online and so far has been great, the video quality is surprisingly good for the price, even at night. I plan on getting one for me and my wife are well. I used my dad as our test bench lol.
https://www.amazon.com/OldShark-G-Sensor-Recording-Dashboard-Recorder/dp/B01DLWBPCA
I got this Old Shark for roughly $62. Very high quality. Those people that spend $$$ on a dash cam don't realize they're just buying for the brand by that point and flashy perks that quite honestly you can find in smaller companies without digging a bigger whole in your pocket.

yup - it's stored on the sd card

This is what I have. After hours of research, I think this is the best you can get in that price range.
That is a good dashcam, I have the A118C and the video image quality is excellent during the day but is mediocre at night.
In my honest opinion, I would go for the Viofo A119 dashcam which is a kind of upgraded version of the A118C and has superior video image quality. It is one of the most popular dashcams on the market just now.
You can buy the dashcam without GPS here: https://www.amazon.com/Viofo-A119-1440P-30fps-Camera/dp/B01HVWNFF6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480310505&sr=8-1&keywords=viofo+a118c+dash+cam

I live in Canada also, I have never considered my options to be limited.
Hey! It's the [Viofo A119] (https://www.amazon.com/Viofo-Camera-Degree-miniUSB-Adapter/dp/B01HVWNFF6) and it's been a solid dashcam over the past three years. I believe they've released an updated model since then but it's capable of doing 1080p @ 60FPS or 1440p @ 30FPS
Anyone who's looking for a great all-around camera for a decent price, check out the Viofo A119.
Also, Please don't cheap out on the SD card!! Check out [this article] (https://www.carcamcentral.com/guide/recommended-sd-cards-avoid-sandisk-ultra-cards) on what type of SD card to get and what not to get.
Do you mean what kind of Dashcam? It's a Venture N2, dual dashcam. I do it in 1080p FHD @30fps. If you decide to do both, it's 1080p in front and the other camera is 720p only. If you want to see it, this is where you find the Dash-cam on Amazon. I just recently order an additional accessory, with the GPS, which is an $21.99. Probably will go on sale when Prime Day arrvies as well.

Those look alot like the Vantrue dashcams.
This is the model I own.
I use the VAVA Dash Cam. https://www.amazon.co.uk/VAVA-Image-Sensor-1080p-Videos-x/dp/B076FVPTLN
The Nextbase 312GW is currently the second highest rated one on Which (the highest rated one is about twice the price): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nextbase-312GW-Full-1080p-Black/dp/B01ELRJW5Q
But if I were to get one nowadays, I’d probably get one from Anker, purely because I’ve had great experience with their other products, and their customer service is top notch when it comes to guarantees. Which would likely end up being this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Roav-Resolution-2560X1440-Wide-Angle-Recording/dp/B072FVX74Q/
One of the main things you want in a dashcam is a GPS sensor, this will log your drive and also show your speed on the recording.
Hey! I also have a 2019. The 12v lighter is on 24/7. I use it often to charge my camera, watch, headphones, etc. The USB ports do turn off a few minutes after the car is turned off. If left unlocked it will stay on a few minutes longer than locked. It will automatically turn back on as soon as the car is unlocked and then turn off again if the car is not turned on.
I use this one, I prefer the form factor and features. I really wanted one that was flush with the window and unobtrusive:
Roav by Anker Dash Cam C1 Pro, 2K Resolution 2560X1440, Built-in GPS/WiFi, 2.4" LCD, 4-Lane Wide-Angle View Lens, G-Sensor, WDR, Loop Recording https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072FVX74Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_F7sOSHWCoU6N5
I have the wire running along the roof liner and a pillar. No fixed in place but tucked it in with my nails and used tape inside the door jam to hold the cable semi tight. Cable goes under the dash to the USB port above the cup holder. Just have the exes cable tied up and tucked under the dash. Only took a few minutes.
See pictures: Roav C1 Pro / 2019 Mazda 3 https://imgur.com/gallery/KSx3V6w
I tried to make it more discreet by mounting the camera as much in the spotted/shadded window portion as possible.
Have you had any experience with others? I am reading about ones with 2k quality, here is one I was looking at (same brand):
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072FVX74Q?ref=emc_b_5_i
Any thoughts?
Take a look at the Mini 0906. I just picked one up on eBay to replace my FineVu CR2000G that is starting to get wonky, and it should arrive in a few weeks from China. http://mini0906.com/index.html
It has all the bells and whistles you would want or need such as a CPL filter, GPS, super capacitor, over temp protection, parking mode, etc. Most importantly, it has really good video quality, especially at night. It uses a a Novatek 96663 processor coupled with Sony Exmor lenses, so it can run both lenses at 1080p@30 fps. This is hardware you find in more expensive dashcams. Also, it costs between $100-140, so it is fairly replaceable if your first one breaks, although the quality of the Mini series is pretty good and always getting better.

Hope this helps.
I went with this mini 0906. A note about the the fuses: even though the fuse box is designed for mini low profile fuses, I'd recommend not using those, and just use mini fuses (not low profile). This is because there is plastic housing on the fuse box that prevents the fuse from being inserted completely. So the choice between not going in enough with the low profile and sticking out a bit with the non-low profile was easy, as at least the non-low profile felt secure. I used 2 empty fuses for both to make things work, one for the constant and one for the ACC (to enable parking mode). On my 2017 6 GT there were enough open slots to do so, not sure if things are the same with the 2018.
The cx-5 is very similar in the front, so the video is accurate enough for us. Obviously the back will be different, but it's basically just the same as the front for us. You'll need to avoid the airbag in the back too, in the same way as the front. I fished the wire around the air bags first, then routed them through the headliner/pillars (giving plenty of slack to play with). I was about to do things with only popping the a/b/c pillars off ~1 inch at the top edge.
Rexing has a wifi versionfor 139$. I like it a lot...
Rexing V1. I'm pretty happy with it. The app is trash, but the camera performs well. It's not really full 4K, but resolution is still pretty good.
Depends on your budget. I have this in the wife's car:
https://www.amazon.com/TOGUARD-Dashboard-Recording-Parking-Travelapse/dp/B07SK6Z7P3/
and in mine
https://www.amazon.com/BlackVue-DR900S-2CH-Hardwiring-Recording-Connectivity/dp/B07C3H8YXB/
wildly different budgets there
The BlackVue DR900S-2CH is $364 right now on Amazon, finally pulled the trigger on it.
Edit: Also the Street Guardian SG9663DC is $230. Both good deals.
There are a few that are marketed as both dashcam and back up camera like this Toguard one. I don't know how good they are and generally would not trust the reviews, but may be worth a try. Worst case you return it.
I would also add the Toguard one to your list as I've seen that one mentioned on here before. Personally tho, I have zero experience with any of the strap on mirror dashcam/reverse cams. No idea how the work. Vantrue will probably give you better customer support if anything goes wrong, whereas the off brands usually have very little to none.
On the other hand, since the price difference is substantial you could order either one and if you don't like it Amazon has a great return policy. Just an idea.
I got one on Amazon for about $75. Can't remember the name of it but the front camera is mounted in an over-sized rear view mirror that straps to the factory one, and the rear camera has a long cord you can run around to the main mirror unit. Plugs in with USB power and takes a micro SD card.

It's a little more expensive than other dashcams but it's worth it, I think
There's a lot on the market that claims to be 360, but by that they mean after installation you can rotate the device as-needed. It looks like the cheapest ACTUAL 360-recording cameras are around $400. I'm kind of a cheap-ass, so I'm planning on getting something a little more low-tech... A camera SET that has one front and one rear camera.
i have this one! https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07GFF7NLB?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
disclaimer: i haven’t actually taken the time to transfer any of the footage onto my computer, but i’m happy with what’s being recorded on the playback on the camera!
Replying to myself again. Further down the rabbit hole I go and come across this one... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H4B75YL
Been using this one for a little while.
It’s extremely reliable, has great resistance to heat and cold. Unfortunately, no interior camera. That’s a tough one to find all 3. But this one is superb. Highly recommended.
Thanks. I was thinking of getting this bundle

VIOFO A129 Duo with CPL Add-On... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HMBV3H3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I went to the dashcam sub and asked. This is one of the highest rated. It has a front and a rear cam. The kit I got also came with a polarizing filter, which cuts the reflections from the windshield(makes a big difference in clarity, the back doesn’t have one and it’s very noticeable). It also comes with a hardwire kit and a parking mode. If someone hits your car while parked it will record. I also added a Bluetooth button to mount on my dash to save clips. You hit it and it locks the clip from being over written.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HMBV3H3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_7AEODbNF7R88C
Not sure if you are looking for dual channel, but I run this one. It has pretty good night quality and buffered parking mode so if an event is detected while you are parked it saves video before & after the trigger event.
I did more research and put in an order for a VIOFO A129 Duo dash cam and I also bought a Samsung EVO Select 256 GB micro sd card. Thank you so much to everyone who helped me to figure this out. Much love and appreciation <3

this one is fantastic for the price. a legitimate dash cam with a rear cam as well as parking mode capabilities. also runs off of a capacitor vs battery so better suited for extreme weather.
I bought a super cheap one on Amazon. I didn't buy it for Shipt, but just because everyone in my city drives like shit. It was easy to put in by myself. It isn't super fancy or advanced but it records everything, stays in place, and has a pretty decent picture quality for the price. Here's a link to the one I have if you're interested.

I got these all for reviews and more but I’m lazy. I got some from groups, some from emails, and some from more people. My account was put on review restriction a couple months following the code era and into the PayPal era. PayPal was much harder for amazon to deal with.
I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/Resolution-2560X1440-Wide-Angle-G-Sensor-Recording/dp/B072FVX74Q/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_107_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=9EB75A4TWDHWMWV2FAYT (goes on sale for under $100)
I mounted it behind the rear view mirror (i can't see it and forget it's there). gets power through usb, so I ran the wire in the head liner, down the a-pillar, under the steering wheel, under the center console, through a access hole and it'ts plugged into a dual port usb charger there. pretty much invisible.
Alternatively, you could get power from the fuse box.
Anyone can attest to this one, or any recommendations?
Roav by Anker Dash Cam C1 Pro
Just bought a new car and while I wasn't at fault in my previous car's accident, I just feel like I need protection. Not trying to spend over $100, but want something "nice"
Thank you for looking. Hopefully I can get a good response before the sale ends!
Oh no thats not the one I have. I have this one.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XNSDRW8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Its made to operate in harsher temperatures like what we have during the summer. But if I were doing it again, I would go with the pro.

i'm horrible with electronics though and I don't want a wire plugged into my car adapter port. I'd like to tap into the mirror but not sure what that would do to the car warranty
Some cameras have 2nd camera (that records to the same unit). Alternatively, you could just buy a 2nd camera and wire it up to the back. I did a quick search and found this one here that has a 2nd camera for the rear.

Check on amazon to get the specs. THX
I just bought the Mini 0906 seems to be the similar but a dual cam.
Been looking for a dash cam since October, figured I might as well go for it.
I've been pretty happy with this.
well think about it this way.. any dash cam is better than no cam... i have some cheapish cams in my car but expect to upgrade them relatively soon.
most cams are 1080p minimum now but there are some 4k cameras .. the higher the resolution the better chance you have when trying to see details and license plates.
the problem you have is you need to research each cam because not all video is good video.. Sony Sensors are known to be good quality for video
I already said the difference of capacitor vs battery cams.. battery cams can stay on when the car is off.. this is also useful if you want to monitor your car while it is parked.
also features like WiFi connection is important so you don't have to pull the SD Card or your camera and hook it to a USB connection to get the video off it you can use wifi and connect to your phone and transfer the files.
https://www.amazon.com/Generation-Dashboard-Recorder-G-Sensor-Recording/dp/B077B25H9K
that might be an ok camera but you would have to research it and see what the video is exactly like.
Also for the MicroSD Card you want to buy a special type that is good about storing many files over and over before it fails and if you have 4k video you want a fast one.. capacity is also important as the videos will loop over the old ones .. normally they are like 3 minute videos and it starts a new one so you want a cam that can take a large microsd card like 64-128g
Define cheap, I spent years using $30-50 cameras and found myself having to replace them enough that it wasn’t with it.
Four years ago I got the older non-4K version of this model and have had nothing but good experiences with it.
I can read license plates but no matter what even with the best camera there will be times where it is unreadable due to glare and shadows. I recommend getting a camera that has audio so you can call out license plate numbers when these people do something stupid and enter it into the record that way.
I also have the Rexing. Works well.
https://www.amazon.com/Generation-Dashboard-Recorder-G-Sensor-Recording/dp/B077B25H9K/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=14XPKX0W8J2D1&keywords=rexing+dash+cam&qid=1573060284&sprefix=rexing%2Caps%2C206&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzQUZGSlZYVEdVNlA4JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTc4MjA0Mkw4RVpSVUVPWjZQSiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMDc3MjQxM1VHRlFGNERXWjBCRiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
I have a Rexing V1 I got off Amazon with a hardwire kit. 4k video, its pretty nice and affordable. Been using for two years no problems.

That saltiness is going to rust thru your Tesla's paint job dude. Chill out.
BlackVue DR900S-2CH with 16GB Micro SD Card | Power Magic Pro Hardwiring Kit Included | WiFi GPS 4K Recording CLOUD Connectivity https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C3H8YXB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_NyrTBbCMBXKAE
I ended up splerging and getting a blackvue DR900s with the Power magic pro. Very expensive but one accident or hit and run will cover my ass. I started out with two of These great cameras as well but kinda of a pain to have to set up two and buy two different memory cards.
Also keep in mind parking mode. The blackvue has it and will record at a lower framerate at night to allow the memory card to last longer and not take up so much power. You can probably get away with leaving the yi cameras running all night but your memory cards will probably have a short life.
This seems to be the standard now - the Blackvue 900 2ch:
https://www.amazon.com/BlackVue-DR900S-2CH-Hardwiring-Recording-Connectivity/dp/B07C3H8YXB/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1539448668&sr=8-4&keywords=blackvue+dr900
Im using:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C3H8YXB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Lower resolution (1080p) cameras typically get better night vision, but you cant beat 4k in day time. The power magic box is also quite nice for recording when parked. If you set it to 12v cutoff, I tend to get about 10-12 hours of recording until it powers down.
That one looks great, thanks for sharing!
Others have recommended some higher quality ones, but I've always been drawn to these cheapos that get the job done: https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Dashboard-Supercapacitor-Nighttime-Recording/dp/B072FGL63X/
Currently have this (best if you don't have a reverse cam): https://www.amazon.com/TOGUARD-Backup-Rearview-Waterproof-Reversing/dp/B07DGS11CM/ (though the reverse cam is a bit ugly on this one, you may find others that look better). But it records both forwards and backwards.
Also, if you get one without internal storage, I recommend getting an SD card made for constant recording, typically "high endurance" ones.
But whatever you get, get it ASAP.

Something like this: TOGUARD Backup Camera 7" Mirror Dash Cam Touch Screen 1080P Rearview Front and Rear Dual Lens with Waterproof Reversing Camera https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DGS11CM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_XNE0DbW7V8BZ3
Tried looking it up and turns out I bought it on a different account. So the one I actually bought is the one in this article. The problem being... the listing is now something completely different??
Anyways, this one is close both in price and function of the one I bought. I was worried about people stealing the dash cam if they saw it so I thought maybe disguising it as just her mirror would keep her car safer. Hope that helps. :)
I'd get something like this
Here is what I ordered to replace my factory head unit:
-ATOTO A6 Pro Android head unit
-Metra 99-3012G-LC dash kit which replaced the MyLink one with a standard double DIN dash enclosure. It included (iirc) the wiring harness needed to connect to the factory harness.
-Metra 40-EU55 Antenna Adapter to retain AM/FM signal
-Rockford Fosgate Prime R165X3 6.5" speakers (to replace front and rear doors)Rockford Fosgate Prime R1T-S 1" Tweeters (to replace the front pillar tweeters)
-Keep in mind that Crutchfield sent me the door speaker mounts free with my purchase, so I'll include those as well.

To answer your question, I did not have any issues other than typical car audio wire routing stuff. For instance, the head unit comes with a mic that you can run, a GPS antenna, and a Wi-fi antenna. I found spots that worked for me and let the head unit sit correctly. Overall, it was a pretty easy install. The one thing that was a bit of a pain was that the double DIN replacement dash/stereo surround can be a pain to get to sit flush like the factory one. This could have caused by worn/bent/broken plastic clips or from the metal clips losing their tightness after I transferred them from the factory piece to the aftermarket piece.

As for what doesn't work:
-XM radio as this head unit isn't XM compatible, but I don't use XM anyway. You could always get an Onxy XM (or another brand) kit, but you'd have a separate device in the car that you'd have to operate XM off of (i.e. the ATOTO does not have a built-in XM tuner).
-Glove box AUX/USB port. That being said, the ATOTO A6 Pro model that I got has an AUX jack built into the face of the unit as well as a USB port. It also comes with another Quick Charge USB cable that I ran from the back of the unit, through my steering wheel column area, and below to my driver's seat. I can plug in my phone, a USB device with multimedia, etc. In other words, I have no need for the glove box AUX/USB jacks. Then again, I didn't use them before.
-Steering wheel controls (work in progress). Even when I did have them, I didn't use them much, so this isn't a big deal to me. If you would like to retain your stock steering wheel controls (Vol+,Vol-,Source select,Track+,Track-), then the easiest solution would be to get a Metra Axxess ASWC-1. Simple to install and will retain your factory wheel controls. ATOTO support told me that I can simply attach the Key#(+) and Key#(-) wires to wires coming from my ATOTO head unit to some wire(s) from the steering wheel/wiring harness and then program the wheel buttons on my head unit. They are a Japanese (I think?) company, so their English isn't superb and I am still working with them on getting more clear instructions on this.
-Backup camera. This is just something I haven't tackled yet, so I wouldn't say it is broken. Basically, I just need to find the backup camera wire and get it connected to my head unit. I have not gotten to it yet, but it should be interesting as it appears that the backup camera signal wire is integrated into the factory wiring harness. In other words, I am going to have to locate the wire and then find some way to attach it to my head unit so that it will output video. Plan on looking at that this weekend.

A note about the sound:
It took me a few hours to get used to the new sound of my Rockford Fosgate speakers. It isn't that the stock speakers were terrible, they were just a bit muddy in my opinion. The highs were decent, but the lows and the mids were pretty meh. The clarity I get from my aftermarket speakers is solid, and there is less distortion when I crank up the volume. My next project will be installing a separate amp for the door speakers to go along with the BOSS 1000w mono amp I have in the trunk compartment that powers my 10" JBL sub. Between the new head unit, the new speakers, and my sub in the back, they make driving and listening to music a lot more enjoyable.

That's it. Everything works great and I love this head unit. Great reviews on Amazon and as close to a full Android experience as you can get at the price point. Android Auto and CarPlay simply didn't provide enough functionality for me, so I didn't want to waste my money. My goal was to be able to download apps, view my home security cameras, watch YouTube/videos while driving, and have an Android familiar experience. So far, it is working out great.
***************** EDIT ****************
Here is the picture of the installation at completion: https://i.imgur.com/KgGYrzp.jpg
Yes, the right edge of the enclosure is rough. I am going to clean it up. That is my fault as I lost focus while using them dremel :)

Also:
1 - I decided to buy a rearview mirror dashcam and am going to run my own rear cam as well as it comes with it. I could splice a video component cable into the backup camera signal wire from the wiring harness, but I am just going to use the backup camera that was provided with my rearview mirror.2 - Steering wheel controls are also the same as backup camera. I just need to find what wire(s) on the wiring harness are for the steering wheel controls and connect them to the steering wheel control wires on the new head unit. EZPZ.
***************** EDIT #2 ****************
For the dashcam/backup camera, I purchased a TOGUARD rearview mirror with integrated dash cam ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DGS11CM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). I also purchased a Meknic SV-PC01 hardwire kit (basically, an add-a-circuit fuse kit) so that I could hardwire the new dash cam without having to rely on powering the unit through the cigarette lighter. I simply tapped into the cigarette lighter fuse in the driver side kickpanel and the dash cam is now being charged when the car is on or accessory power is on. This weekend I will run the wires for the new backup camera. The plan is to run the wires from the rear to the driver side kick panel, then I will route the backup camera wires and the charging cable for the dash cam through the pillars and along the top for a clean look.
That takes care of the backup camera. All that is left now is the steering wheel controls. I got another e-mail from ATOTO who said that I just need to connect the wires from the new head unit to steering wheel control wires in the factory harness. I am still trying to find out which wire(s) that may be.
I looked in the service manual I purchased a while back and I think I found the steering wheel control wires: https://imgur.com/a/bQoUYuk
Anybody have a recommendation for the best aftermarket backup camera? Just got an older van and would like to add a camera for visibility when parking. Currently looking at this one https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DGS11CM/

I picked this one because it’s so small. Other than the little chirp it makes when it turns on and off, I don’t know it’s there. I bought the items listed in the “frequently bought together” section which includes a 32gb memory card and an alternate mount that allowed me to mount the camera from my rear view mirror instead of the suction cup mount that came with the camera.
These are the setups i run. i prefer the apeman more.

Hmm, tech is very dependent on what he already has. If he's big into smart home things, I recently added a Nest Hub to my house and have been really loving it:
https://store.google.com/us/product/google_nest_hub?hl=en-US
It wouldn't be good if he has an Amazon Alexa ecosystem, though.
Another option is a nice dashcam for his car like this one:

Finally, as a non-tech option, I personally have wanted to learn lockpicking for years but just never think about it. If that's something you think they may be into, maybe something like this:
https://www.sparrowslockpicks.com/product_p/nightschool.htm
If you think that may be a good idea, it's probably a good idea to check out the lockpicking subreddit for more specific suggestions.

I too am looking for a Dual camera, it looks like the Rexing V1P Pro Dual has a capacitor instead of a battery and the the rear camera is labeled HD. https://www.amazon.com/Rexing-Degree-Supercapacitor-G-Sensor-Recording/dp/B07H4B75YL
Does this make a better choice?
Okay nice to hear it’s not as terribly bulky as the reviews make it seem. I’m actually looking at the V1P Pro, from what I can tell, it’s the same as the V1P Gen 3 but has the GPS built-in.
I have the A129 cams hard-wired ( this Dashoto kit is the best deal ). I take the card out and upload to my computer. I need to get a second card so I don't have to bring the computer to the car or leave the cam without a card.
Be sure to get this card.
https://www.amazon.com/Channel-Camera-Hardwiring-Installation-Included/dp/B07HMBV3H3/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1541986156&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=viofo+a129&psc=1
that seems to indicate it comes with GPS built in. does this one NOT need the additional GPS module? also can the A129 overlay the speed and position into the recording?
this camera has proven reliable? long term stability? silent failures? is the app any good for downloading locked videos? is there a way to "auto download" locked videos like ddpai does? when you press the button does it lock current video or generate a custom clip with pre time like ddpai does? (not a critical thing but a would be nice)

Someone recommended this to me before and I bought it, happy to say that I'm super satisfied with it.

I need to finally invest in one, these roads are too crazy out here.
I am considering this one with a hardwire kit bought separately so that it records while parking too. What do you say?
Would this one be good for someone that’s on a budget?
The only thing I think is missing is parking monitor

Go with the A129. Blackvues are over priced. The A129 Pro Duo is one of the favorites here on Reddit and it's 4k, has GPS, and wide angel of view. So while it's not quite a Tesla Sentry mode, it covers pretty much all you need.
Did not see it. How long did it last?
Also, I am going to make a pitch for having a dashcam. Especially living with all the dishonest, fucked up people. They are not even that expensive. My cam is this A119 after it was recommended on /r/dashcam, though now they have the V3. Also for front and rear cam the A129 Pro Duo just came out and it is in 4k video. WIll likely put that in my wifes car in a month or two.
Yep
Also heres where I got mine =/

I've been running a G1W dashcam for a couple of months now. I really like it and you can't beat the price. I didn't really need any of the expensive options like GPS, WIFI, etc. I just wanted a reliable camera that would record everything.
I purchased mine off of Amazon
The video quality is pretty decent. So good that I stepped it down from 1080 to 720. The 720 is perfectly clear for my needs.
Here's an example. 1080P on a bright day.

Thankfully I've never had to save any of the footage, but in terms of bang-for-your-buck it's pretty good at $49.

Depends on budgets and needs:
High end: Black 2 channel
http://www.amazon.com/Blackvue-DR650GW-2CH-Built--Wi-Fi-Recorder/dp/B00MC56AXM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463874060&sr=8-1&keywords=blackvue+dash+cam
Mid range: Street guardian. Sony sensor is good in low light compared to cheaper modesl
http://www.amazon.com/Street-Guardian-SG9665GC-Supercapacitor-DashCam/dp/B00U0OJMYG/ref=lp_10150278011_1_1?srs=10150278011&ie=UTF8&qid=1463874182&sr=8-1
Low multiple cards: Mini 806 (i have 803). Easy to have multiple bases and just move between cars
http://www.amazon.com/Dashboard-Camera-SplashETech-Smallest-Recorder/dp/B00XKM5A96/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463874025&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+dash+cam
Mystery budget: aukey looks to have a 0803 rebadge for $60 worth a look
http://www.amazon.com/Rotatable-Camera-Recorder-Versatile-G-Sensor/dp/B01B2VO218/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1463874025&sr=8-2&keywords=mini+dash+cam
Discrete: Street guardian has this model that is hard to find but allows you to mount on dash and have a remote control mounted elsewhere.

I have this 2-channel dashcam. One mounted forwards, one facing rear. It's hard wired but has a voltage cutoff to prevent heavy drain on the car battery. It's got about as good of a long-term reliability record as you'll find in this product space, and the picture quality is excellent. But it's fucking expensive.
Me, I've been very happy with it. I think the peace of mind is worth the money.
Blackvue DR650S-2CH as some have already recommended, but I would order it with the Power Magic Pro, which is basically an add-a-fuse kit so that the camera has power when parked but won't drain the battery below a set voltage level.
It also records if there's any motion or g-sensor activated while in parking mode. This is pretty high-end as far as dashcams go (and priced accordingly) but it fulfills all your criteria and is certainly better quality controlled than any of the no-branded dashcams.
I have heard really good things about this dash cam. Ordering it myself.dash cam
I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/Spy-Tec-G1W-CB-Capacitor-120%C2%B0/dp/B00YZ5G2GC/
works well.

Same. Mine is incredibly inconspicuous. For reference this is the one i have
This is it: APEMAN Dash Camera Covert Recorder Dual Car Cam LCD FHD 1080p 170 Wide Angle Dashboard with G-Sensor, WDR, Loop Recording https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F5BC6BE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Zy1izbF6S1Q2Q
I have the rear camera mounted on the front windshield facing inside the cabin. The interior cam quality is pretty shit, but it's good enough for fare disputes.
I got a 128gb micro SD card for it... I believe it has about 60 hours of footage(30 front/30 rear)

This is the one I'm looking at.
I ordered the Apeman 2 channel dash cam.
https://www.amazon.com/APEMAN-Recorder-Dashboard-G-Sensor-Recording/dp/B01F5BC6BE
I haven't received it yet, but I'm biting at my teeth waiting for it.
I got one from Amazon a few weeks ago. Love it. $80 for a front and rear facing camera. Installation took me 20 minutes.

This is the one I went with. It’s not the greatest, but it’s fairly inexpensive and comes with a rear camera. Haven’t really had the chance to review footage yet though, because I didn’t know you need to buy a separate Micro SD!
The manufacturer is APEMAN. I've never heard of them, but it works great so far.

Also, make sure you get a 'high-endurance' SD card to handle the constant re-writes:

Another redditor in a large thread suggested this camera, which is the one I picked up:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F5BC6BE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
There are fancier cameras with better features, but this one is quite solid for the price
It's incredibly low-profile- hard to even tell it's there. And the cords are long enough in the base kit to stretch all the way back to the rear of my CRV. Plus it records front and back at the same time. Turns on/off when you turn on the car
I purchased an A119G from a third party seller through Amazon. Should get here on Friday.

edit: changed annoying wording and fixed broken link.
A few others have linked some good leads on Amazon!
I'm torn between this one, because it comes with dual cameras, and this one, because of the product rating and that it came up as a suggestion in this thread a few times.
Can anyone say what the difference is between the Spy Tec A119 and the Adorama A119?
I use this one here, but I have the V1 version.
So far no issues with it, I've had it about a year now.
The G1W has worked perfectly for me. It's pretty reasonably priced too. It's often for sale at $49. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J2OVN74/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Vantrue OnDash N2 is an easy-to-use dual lens dash cam. Built on Novatek NT96655 processor+AR0330 color CMOS sensor, advanced H.264 video compression technology, powerful performance, simultaneously captures the road ahead and the cabin, providing full protection for your car.

Depending on the camera, it's suggested that you take the dashcam down anyways due to the heat potentially melting the plastic casing around/inside the lens area. It can permanently alter the quality of video because of the warping.
I went from not having a dashcam, to using it every day. I take it down when not in use, it's really not that big a deal. It takes about as long to mount and plug in than it does buckling in.
I got a Rexing V1 3rd Gen and if your front window one mounts as easily as this you shouldn't have any problems.

I have used this for a little over a year, great quality and easy to set up. The adhesive is strong (this is a warning to not mess up placement lol) You can get a polarizing lens for it as well which costs$20 and cuts down glare in the daytime. Includes GPS if you want so you can include your location and speed if you want to. Both can be turned off independently as well. Comes with little clips to secure the cable along the top of your windshield as well. I also use a 64GB micro SD with it.
> Defend? Has nothing to do with defending. It has something to do with acting like you have somewhere to go, paying attention and keeping your eyes on the road. The harsh reality is everybody drives here like they are entitled. This is a team effort and when one person slips we all feel the affects (traffic). Hands at 10 and 2, eyes front, be vigilant of your surroundings, and keep a half car distance. If you maintain your vehicle properly and know how to drive it you won't rear-end somebody unless that person is at fault, which I have proven many times in court. My dash cams rocks your face off. And so do large front bumpers. Don't brake check me, camera is watching.
The price of my truck factors into the equation. I spent $32,000 on the thing, I don't mind spending $500 on an accessory for it that will be high quality and last a long time. I just need to save up money, because $1,500 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment is not cheap, and I live alone.
*I should clarify that I live in Colorado where we have very intense temperature swings. I want a camera that can handle the 110 degree summer where it gets to more like 150 on the car. It also needs to handle the blistering cold when its -20 degrees out. I have looked at the cheaper dash cams and they dont work very great in those conditions. I also want something that has a good image. While the cheaper options might give you a decent image, they cant read liscense plates unless you're up close. The field of view on those cameras is less as well. So with those things in mind, I want a high quality dash cam. I also didn't say for sure that I was going to spend $600. If a $100 dash cam is the best rated, then that's what I'm buying.
I'm not sure why that's such a controversial thing to say. Maybe it was the suggestion that I couldn't afford a dash cam, but I could afford 1500 rent and a 32,000 truck. That's the reason why I can't afford a dash cam. I never claimed to be poor, I simply said I was going to buy a dash cam when I can afford to do so. You guys shouldn't be so quick to judge others.
