All the cables I previously mentioned as well as the following chargers (except the Anker 26800 battery) are USB-IF certified.
This charger from Monoprice has 5 ports - 1 Type C, 3 Type A. The 3 Type A ports have a total maximum output of 5V 2.4A, or 12W. Each individual Type A port is also capable of that 12W, given you have nothing plugged into the rest of them. The Type C port is capable of 5, 9, 12, 15, 20V charging, all at 3A.

This charger from Monoprice has 2 ports - 1 Type C, 1 Type A. The Type A has an output of 5V 2.4A, or 12W. The Type C is capable of 5V and 9V at 3A, or 15V charging at 2.6A. I do not think it is capable of 12V charging, 12V is just not listed on the MP website nor on the charger itself.

This (last) charger from Monoprice is a car charger and has 2 ports - 1 Type C, 1 Type A. The Type A has an output of 5V 1A, or 5W. The Type C is capable of 5V and 9V charging at 3A, or 12V charging at 2.25A.

This battery from Anker has 1 Type C and 1 Type A. The Type C acts as both an input and output for the battery. The Type C, as an input, is capable of 5V 3A (15W), 9V 3A (27W), 15V 2A (30W), and 20V 1.5A (30W). As an output, it is capable of 5V 3A (15W), 9V 2.67A (24W), and 15V 1.6A (24W). The Type A is 5V 2A, or 10W. It comes with a 30W wall charger as well as a C-C (Type C to Type C) cable as well as a Type A to Micro B cable. The output capabilities of the charger are not listed, so I will assume they are the same as the input of the battery's Type C port. The C-C cable is definitely only 3A capable, as the battery cannot output anything higher than that, and most likely only USB 2.0 capable.

This battery from Anker is a bit special. It is not expressly USB-IF certified but may fall under the clause that if two products (from the same manufacturer) are near identical then only one needs to be certified. I do not think it does, as it features an extra Type A port and has over 30% more capacity than the other one, but I'm going to list it here anyway. This one has 1 Type C, again as an input and output, and 2 Type A ports. The Type A's are each 5V 3A (15W). The Type C port is 5V 3A, 9V 3A, 15V 2A, and 20V 1.25A capable as an output. As an input it's the same across the board, except it can charge at 1.5A at 20V. Comes with the same cables and charger as the other Anker battery.

This Nekteck charger has a captive 6ft Type C cable, and is capable of 5V 3A, 9V 3A, 15V/3A, 20V/2.25A charging.

This Nekteck charger has just 1 Type C port, and is capable of 5V 3A, 9V 3A, 12V 3A, 15V 3A, 20V 3.25A charging. To get that 20V 3.25A charging you MUST use a 5A capable cable, a 3A capable cable will clip it to 20V 3A. This charger comes with a 6ft C-C cable that is capable of 5A charging, but is probably USB 2.0.

This Nekteck car charger is the same as the Monoprice one I listed above, except this only outputs 5V 3A and 9V 3A, no 12V charging on this one. The Type A port is the same as the MP.

Nintendo Switch High Speed Car Charger by Hori

  • Licensed by Nintendo
  • Built-in 6 feet/1.8 meters cable (measure it'll reach where you are in the car)

Monoprice 27W Car Charger with USB-C and USB-A

  • USB-IF certified
  • USB-A port to charge your phone, too
  • You'll need to get a USB-C cable of whatever length you need. Get a USB-IF certified cable. Any AmazonBasic or Anker cable is certified, as well as lots of others.

Nekteck USB Type-C Car Charger 27W PD

  • USB-IF certified
  • USB-A port to charge your phone, too
  • You'll need to get a USB-C cable of whatever length you need. Get a USB-IF certified cable. Any AmazonBasic or Anker cable is certified, as well as lots of others.

For power banks there are lots of options, but none are USB-IF certified or licensed by Nintendo. The car chargers above will have that extra stamp of approval if that's a big concern. Car chargers also last longer if going on a long road trip. I haven't seen a verified case made against any power bank damaging a Switch. The recent bricking reports are all involving Nyko docks.

First off, the Pixel ships with a ton of charging accessories... One USB-C/USB-C cable, one USB-C/USB-A cable, a C to A adapter, and a C wall adapter.

Second, for anything else you need just pick something with good reviews/brand and pay attention to the amperage. I've got this guy for the car and barely use the wall charger at night anymore because my phone is topped off within my 16 minute commutes.

Fast charging just requires a ~3A output adapter. And as for cables, I wouldn't recommend using any other than those provided by Google with a Nexus or Pixel device... some USB-C cables from Amazon have been known to fry devices.

My wife is using the Incipio NGP, we both really like it. Feels good, easy to get on and off. It's too thick on the bottom to dock on my stereo, though, so I've been using a good ol' super-cheap TPU case, which is almost thin enough on the bottom. I have to stick a shim behind it, then it docks. I ordered an Otterbox Commuter before the page said it doesn't work with 4S; it fit mine just fine, it's just a huge pain in the ass to get on and off. The white part is squishy and the green part is hard, it takes a lot of finagling.

u/JustCallMeMittens · 4 pointsr/E90

I recently started using a Tune2Air and a phone mount with wireless charging that automatically grabs your phone (this one). It’s a fantastic combo. My phone connects in seconds and from there it’s exactly the same as having an iPod plugged in. Steering wheel controls even work!
It’ll run you about $130 for the two, but it’s worth every penny.

u/Threedawg · 4 pointsr/google

You might be interested in something like this. I put one on my project car, it charges faster than the wall plug in my house..

I swore off USB-C PD car chargers for a long time, they were largely a hot mess back around the time of the OG Pixel launch and that phone (and the P2) could charge at a decent 10-12W rate off old Type A chargers anyway (not the P3 tho). I even bought a couple for Nathan K to test with his fancy gear and they were colossal failures.

There were a couple decent ones but mostly single port and/or fixed cable ones... I recall the Verizon branded one actually being solid (it was made by a pretty large OEM of this stuff with a good rep, I forget the name, starts with an X I think). I mean, heck, Belkin had to recall a car charger that they were selling in Google's own store and it was months before they replaced it.

Anyway, just a word of warning, I'd avoid anything with iffy reviews or that has been out too long... Something USB-IF certified or with a decent warranty (like Belkin's) at least means it's been looked over or has someone standing behind it. Having said that, this 45W Nekteck USB-C PD + Type A charger is USB-IF certified and has been getting good word of mouth reports.

They also have this smaller one that will be just as fast for the purpose of charging a phone (which won't draw over 18W), but the Type A port is only good for 5W so if you need to charge something fast off that port you might as well pay a couple bucks more for the other one. If you need to charge two USB PD capable phones there's this Scosche.

It should be able to charge two phones at full speed (18W each), not USB-IF certified AFAIK but Nathan K reviewed and okayed their dual 18W AC charger, and Scosche has been making pretty solid car chargers for a long time... Pricier than Nekteck's tho. Their dual USB-C PD home AC charger is worth a look too, even tho it's pricier still, as that's a rarity.

Google sold a 21.5W non-PD one that basically supplied 15W & 7.5W with load balancing for a while, but dual PD chargers have been hard to come by otherwise. The smaller Scosche is probably not worth it vs the smaller Necktek or even the larger one since it's priced as high as the latter and not rated for any more than the former.

Edit: There's a version of the Necktek with a built in cable too, but being able to replace it seems like the better long term bet IMO, plus allows you to go as long or as short as you need.

I dont know much about the Pixelskin HD, but I have the Incipio NGP and it is amazing. It comes with a good screen protector and is probably one of the best bargains, going for 12 dollars on Amazon.

It's always best to avoid the words "quick charge" because they're likely to cause confusion with Qualcomm's Quick Charge technology, which none of the Pixel phones support.

Any charger that talks about "Quick Charge" is selling you a feature that your phone can't use - eg this one https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Charge-PowerDrive-PowerIQ/dp/B01K9MQ8WW is a waste of money for a Pixel phone.

Similarly, you could argue that this one https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Anker-PowerDrive-Delivery-MacBook/dp/B07H4M4N5V is a bit overkill for a 5.0" Pixel 1. We're in the right technology field now... this charger features USB-PD and the phone features USB-PD as well. However because that specific Pixel only supports 5V charging you're only going to get a little over 2A/5V out of it, even if you use a USB-C cable.

A good non-USB-PD car charger like https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Ultra-Compact-PowerDrive-Technology/dp/B01MY9ZGHH will charge just about as fast at a cheaper price point.

Having said all that...

I just ran a couple of tests with a 5.0" Pixel 1 and a 5.5" Pixel 3, a USB-C power meter and a variety of chargers lol.

Pixel 1 draws up to 2.0A/5V from standard USB chargers. Draws up to 2.8A/5V (but oddly dropped down to a claimed 1.2A although the phone still said "charging rapidly" so I'm not sure who to believe) from a high-power USB-PD charger

Pixel 3 draws only 1.5A/5.0V from standard USB chargers (so oddly LESS than the Pixel 1 would) in my tests today. However it'll draw 2.0A/9V from a USB-PD charger.

In short: a USB-PD charger will give you a little more juice but not very much on a 5.0" Pixel 1, a much bigger difference on phones that support 9V USB-PD. Avoid anything that says "Quick Charge"

Don't know about the RDX, but the armrest compartment in the TL has both a 12V and the AUX port, so I leave it plugged into a 12V USB Charger like this one all the time.

The Miccus automatically switches on when it receives power and pairs with the last device used. Similarly, it shuts off when the charger loses power. It is essentially perfect for this application.

edit: PS - it also does not interfere with HFL and at least on Android the music pauses when I take or place a call. Again, perfect for the application (no I don't work for them).

Would this product fit the back vents of the Asus G751JY? My right fan is busted, and it is overheating badly, but I am unable to send it over for repairs because I have no support for that model in my country.
'Over the counter' measures need to be taken, starting with a cooling pad and maybe one of those.

Alternatively, maybe consider a mini 12v USB adapter. Something like one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/Charger-iPhone-Samsung-Galaxy-Powerful/dp/B00M6QODH2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1463103953&sr=8-4&keywords=12v+usb

These site extremely flush/flat. It's sometimes handy to have an extra USB port for power, and it honestly can look more stock than the cap that comes with the car. I had one in mine (until my wife left it in a rental car) and absolutely loved it. Need to pick up another one.

u/rexbot · 2 pointsr/iphone

I hate any and all cases that have a window for the Apple logo. I don't know why that caught on.

Going on a trip tomorrow. Needed a car charger for my phone, i bought this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01582ELMC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_3srgzbEX01W1J
This will give me the ability to use quick charge instead of the slow usb ports in my car that barely charge my phone.

Would this be ok to use on my switch to play and charge? If so, would i use the top port (which is quick charge compatible) or the bottom port (standard usb)?

I wasn't planning on going mobile with my switch so i didn't bother ordering one that says it is made for the switch, but now i might take it along.

Thanks

I'd probably go for the C2, it's not quite as fast as the XU4 but it's cheaper. Also important to note the XU4 is an 8 core, while the C2 is 4. C2 doesn't have the fan mounted right on the chip so when you stack them up you can just mount a single fan next to them all.

Also, the C2 has a jumper on it that will allow you to power it over the microUSB port. While the barrel connector is probably more ideal, it's not necessary. If you don't plan on connecting anything to the USB ports that eats up power I don't see any reason to not just do it that way with a 5 port charger. I think their stated power draw under load is something like 1A.

I haven't used this myself (yet, considering it), but this might solve your needs: https://www.amazon.com/XINLON-Magnetic-Wireless-Charging-QI-Enabled/dp/B075HVZM28

u/MarcoPolo80 · 2 pointsr/GooglePixel

well fast charging is not going to work on ANYTHING wireless because there's a google-specific security handshake that has been added. currently only the pixel stand support fast charging.

putting that aside, the problem with the iottie isn't the charging. it's that in order to get it to charge, you have to center it and when it "snaps" closed, it his the volume button...this got very frustrating so i got rid of it. i ended up buying (and i like) the choetech wireless charger. what i like is that it uses a type-c cable to connect to the charger...this way if i really need a fast charge, i just move it from the wireless charger directly to the phone. most/all wireless chargers use micro-usb, which means if you want to hardwire it, you'll need a seperate cable.

Link: https://www.amazon.com/CHOETECH-Wireless-Charger-Charging-Compatible/dp/B07CZ8KBR4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1542951832&sr=8-3&keywords=choetech+wireless+charger+car

i get about 600-700 mah charging speed. that's enough to trickle charge it. with music and waze running, it still charges, albeit slowly.

You'll have a hard time finding something that doesn't have cables. The closest you'll probably get is a wireless charging base, but it's still going to have a cable that runs to your USB or cig lighter. This may work for you though, since it's a more permanent installation and you can run the wire out of the way and never have to touch it once it's installed.

Ok, so, I plug the phone (which has quick charging) into the Pi to run AA, and connect my phone to the car's bluetooth stereo, and that keeps steering wheel controls. Awesome. From what I gathered, it seemed like it could, but I wanted to double check.

I have a quick charger that that has two USB ports. Do I need more than that, or will 2 do? https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Compatible-Devices-Anker-PowerDrive/dp/B07H4LH6P7/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=anker+car+charger&qid=1554666838&s=wireless&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1

I was planning on housing it all in this: https://www.amazon.com/Raspberry-Pi-7-Inch-Touch-Screen/dp/B01GQFUWIC/ -- since the HMDI port is accessible, which I'm assuming I'll need if I end up adding a back-up camera.

And yah, good tip. I'll definitely build it out of my car to test everything before I install it.

u/needs28hoursaday · 2 pointsr/cinematography

Ill answer both with one post. The biggest problem I see is lack of motivation. While the glide cam is cool, it would be better to see some tighter shots to break up the wides. You have to do a larger range for the shots to feel more cohesive as a whole.

As far as gear goes, don't worry about not having good stuff. I have shot plenty of videos with friends using nothing but a cellphone. Here is one written, shot, and edited in a day in fact. You just have to be creative on how you use your camera the best you can. Here is the only piece of gear we used which is specialized outside of a shitty monopod which probably cost about $20.

Don't have friends to film with? Sure you do, you just haven't met them yet. Post on your cities subreddit about wanting people to film with, or look on craigslist or Mandy.com for a PA job which will find you plenty. I'm also willing to bet that there is a rental house in your city. You could rent gear there to film with if you wanted to spend a little bit of money on a one man shoot. Or hell get a DSLR for your birthday, I'm sure your entire family would pitch in for the couple hundred needed these days.

Anyways, I look forward to seeing more films from you in the future!

the issues with LP were already there, it is just that no one cared about it because it's a punishment and only the criminals get punished. The only things Valve fixed were to disrupt the professional LPers who were gaming the system to get out of LP faster, consequently making the lives of the occasional LPer hell, and at the same time made it easier for people to end up in LP, so globally there is more awareness.

source: I ended up in LP due to abandoning due to laptop overheating crashing since the 7.00 update. To play safe now I got one of these puppies (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01D3293TK) and I put ice packs on the laptop!

They're super easy to grab on amazon I'll link the one I got below. Just pop it into a blank near the 12v lighter socket and tap the wire into the harness for the 12v socket (or a quick connect into its wires). The socket that replaces the blank will need a tiny bit of modification on the top but nothing a nail clipper can't remove in a few moments.

I'm currently using a few of the older 25W version of this Aukey charger https:/https://www.amazon.com/Charger-5-Port-Output-iPhone-Samsung/dp/B00UN1LM7Q/ (this one is 50W)

The 25W seems to be only available on Amazon.ca now https://www.amazon.ca/Desktop-Charging-Station-Charger-Devices/dp/B017U7K1RM/

I'm also using a few of these 40W ones from Monoprice http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13914 The Monoprice ones come with a longer cable (maybe a foot?) though the cables have the same end connector, so are interchangable between the monoprice and aukey.

The Monoprice ones are $1 cheaper right now than the Aukey, and Monoprice has a 15% off code one this weekend ("USA")

I would definitely not do raw output from the solar. If you have a 12v outlet though, I would wire a regulating converter like this RioRand converter I got or this Drok converter. From there hook up your Pi and Fury into them.

I haven't seen what the Fury takes, though -- if it needs 12V you may have to split the 12v out.

An ammeter is only going to measure the amperage of current drawn through the ammeter. I wouldn't be comfortable with that setup on a bike, nor is is necessary.

A voltmeter will give you all the information you need to know.

I've used these in the past with good results. Also convenient if you don't already have a USB charger.

Yes, there is a rear vent that brings air in and out the side.

I just like the peace of mind that I'm not ruining more hardware by not taking proper care when using it to game, if that makes sense?

rather than a cooling pad, I don't think it'd be beneficial for a thinkpad to have a cooling pad anyways lol.

I have a laptop that overheats, too, a Lenovo Y510P.

Generally speaking, there is no such thing as a gaming laptop. You either get performance or portability unless you buy that $10,000 one with two GTX 1080's in it or whatever.

I bought a cooling pad for it, and these external fans that pump out far more air than the original fans ever did. Something like these.

https://www.amazon.com/TekHome-Compatibility-Junction-Adjustable-Cucumber/dp/B01D3293TK/ref=sr_1_10?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1492093594&sr=1-10&keywords=Laptop+cooler

And if your temps start creeping up again, grab a can of compressed air and just blow backwards into the exhaust, it'll free up all the dust inside.

In general or specifically for the G1W? The G1W uses a micro (or mini? I never remember which is which) USB, so to direct wire, you'd need something like this.

Just put it as far as you can. like i said, i really don't think it will matter. you could always experiment.

For usb, you can find a lot of 12v usb chargers. most are car or marine parts, but even something like this will do it: https://www.amazon.ca/Adapter-Double-Connector-Charger-IPhone/dp/B00F0CS1EK/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1505259122&sr=8-11&keywords=12v+usb+charger

12v is nice, because there are a lot of readily available parts. 12v stuff is also not picky on voltage, since it's generally meant to work with batteries. 12v battery systems typically run anywhere between 10-14v.

I can confirm that having a metal ring adhered to the back of my iPhone 8 Plus (as used by popular magnetic wireless charging car mounts - https://www.amazon.com/XINLON-Magnetic-Wireless-Charging-QI-Enabled/dp/B075HVZM28/) does cause issues with some other tabletop wireless chargers.

For instance, I have a stand-style wireless charger (Toward Qi Fast Wireless Charger -

I wired a dashcam into my dome lights on my 2010 Mazda 3 using a converter for 5 volts. I had hoped there would be a source of ignition hot already up there to power the moonroof controls in cars so equipped, but there was only battery hot. (don't know if this is because the moonroof is battery hot so you can close it without the keys, or if mine didn't get that wire because I don't have a moonroof.)

Your wiring will be a bit different than mine due to it being a different generation, but you are guaranteed a source of power up there for the moonroof controls and there should be enough room to stash a small converter like this one.

http://www.amazon.com/Compact-Hardwire-Charger-Vehicle-Motorcycle/dp/B007O59Z7I

If you don't want the cam on all the time, and you can only find battery hot up there just install a small switch to cut power to the converter. If yours has a flip down sunglass cuby like mine, hide the switch in there.

I don't know of any specifically for the EVO LTE, but a universal one like this would probably work (it says it works for phones up to 2.75" wide and the EVO LTE is 2.71" wide). I'm actually surprised there was one that was specific to the original Evo 4G.

I got this one with dual female usb cables and ran two usb male to mini usb male cables to power both cameras from the single inverter.

I got this (it used to ship with prime) 12v-5v inverter with a single female usb cable to provide power for my Nexus 7 install—whenever I get around to that.

If you get an inverter with dual usb cables, it splits the power output between the two, but if you get one with a single usb cable, you'll get the full power of the inverter to your device.

The dashcams don't need much power to run, but the Nexus 7 will need all that it can get to stay charged while multitasking.

And speaking of...

Thanks.

I have two cars and three 'projects'.

One underhood project:

  1. Electronically-switched oil accumulator (accusump). Just ignition-hot.
  2. Subtle under-hood lighting (no rice - subtle - will be playing around with it. Might decide it looks like shit, and not do it.) Might also install a switchable work light in case something needs to be done at night.
  3. My own version of a lojack that I haven't gotten around to building. Also, if possible, have it control a secondary fuel pump relay to make the fuel pump die; basically an interlock that makes the car seem broken instead of locked.

Two under-dash projects that are identical, one for each car:

  4. Hard-wired radar detector
  5. Hard-wired dash cam
  6. Hard-wired USB outputs - one or two dual-12v-to-USB converters
  7. Potentially the lojack-equivalent's battery charger (since it would have a separate small battery)

The hard part is figuring out where to get a non-fused 12V supply under the dash. An add-a-fuse circuit is very appealing and I should find places where an extra 5-10A won't pop anything, so I may end up doing one 5-10A-add-a-fuse on an ignition-hot line, instead of a 12v-master-fuse + ignition-hot-relay, as the single master fuse for all these.

Then it would just be a 15A strip terminal instead of a big fat 100A ground bar at the ground side, and a small fuse box at the positive side (with 1A or 2A fuses for each circuit, depending on their needs).

    ---

I really appreciate your feedback. The only reason I haven't already built all this is because of worries of fucking up and coming back to a smoldering ash heap.

    ---

I'm also figuring out how to mount all this securely under the hood... I figure these little wire clamps for the wires, and something like this velcro alternative to mount things like the fuse box, except it's hard to tell what temperature they're rated for (and it seems that the 3M stuff I linked will fall off due to heat.) Any ideas there? I want something that is 1) secure as fuck, but 2) that I could potentially remove without damage in the future, maybe using a heat gun or something. I would be mounting it mostly to plastic, but I don't want to drill any holes if possible.

Here's a list of chargers that I have bought and used from Amazon that work with the fast charging.

As you can tell, I like to have plenty of chargers around, and most of them are connected to the wireless fast charge pads. The only problems I ever had were cable related and how I found out that not all cables are built the same to handle the fast charge.

The way kevdav described it, the tablet will still go to sleep when you cut ignition and use very low power so the draw on your car battery should be very low.

I removed the battery from the tablet Friday. The car is powering the tablet as expected, but my tablet will not go to sleep when I cut ignition. The only way for me to trigger sleep mode is to physically unplug the OTG cable from the tablet.

This may be caused by the cheap power converter I'm using to power the OTG port. Some other reading I've done here suggests it may be caused by too much voltage coming from one of the power converters.

I'm using this converter for powering the tablet: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016XI9BJS
