It's actually very easy to replace, the phone comes apart very easily for complete access from the inside to push out any glass. Clean the area very thoroughly so the adhesive can stick well.

Cracked screen and picked up a replacement off Amazon in black.

Pretty easy swap using a hair dryer and the supplied tools including an old gift card. did the moonwalk with fingers to peel the glue off the screen and the kit came with precut adhesive to keep the glass in place.

Trying to sand down the blue on the sides now but proving to be a pain around the buttons.

u/ozdreaming · 4 pointsr/pebble

On iFixIt, one person recommended a thin 3M double-sided tape, and another recommended Sugru moldable glue (comes in multiple colours) for restoring water resistance.

u/DavidPx · 4 pointsr/nexus4

There are a number of good videos on Youtube showing how to swap out the display. I recently replaced mine and went the route of purchasing the frame+glass instead of just the glass.

u/knighttim · 3 pointsr/tmobile

If you're careful and willing to take a bit of time you can replace the screen on the OPO pretty easily for ~$30.

Buy the back case from amazon its only like 20 bucks brooooo its so easy to replace Here you go and to remove it

u/Hot_Food_Hot · 3 pointsr/essential

Clean the edges clean of old adhesive. I used 2mm adhesive when I replaced my screen and it was a little thicker. 1mm would work just fine. Cut them to smaller pieces and use a tweezer and magnifying glass if you need to but make sure every available edge surface has adhesive. You'll need the edges that will stick to the screen.

Once you have edge lined, remove the top side (of the double sided adhesive). Take your time and press down on edges. Once it's closed, get even heat on it (hairdryer, heat gun). Make sure you don't leave it on one place for too long. Move the heat around the edge for about a minute and a half or hot to touch. Put the phone down on flat surface, lay a cloth on top and put even weight on (stack plenty of books if you have it?). Leave it to cool for about 15 minutes with at least 3 dictionary worth of weight.

In your version, the fans would need to be very small if mounted to the sides of the visor. I cut a fan-sized hole in my visor and put a thin 80mm PC fan in there that blows outward. Air in either direction will keep the phone cool though.

This is the fan I use: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N1Y4U8U?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

This is what's powering it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0128FACBQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

I strapped the battery to the back of the middle strap with velcro. It lasts forever without needing to be recharged. Oh, and I soldered the end of a USB cable to the fan cables. You could also twist and use electrical tape instead, but it kept coming apart for me.

No I'm not getting a case for it, it's too comfortable to put a case on for me. I'm getting this (G4 version). They also have NFC so you don't have to worry about losing that.

u/PixelFelon · 3 pointsr/gaming

This glass repair kit should work (It comes in different colors). If your actual screen is messed, there doesn't seem to be anything for less than $100-$150, but unless you have lots of unhappy looking bars and lines, that's unlikely. Hope this helps.

u/Phoenix591 · 3 pointsr/lgv20

I recently bought a replacement lens and fixed mine, it wasn't hard at all. This is the one I ended up getting matched my titan us996 perfectly, and the included tweezers worked well.

u/GSXP · 3 pointsr/lgg2

I would also recommend getting some double sided sticky tape to replace some of the tape that gets messed up during removal. For $3, you can't go wrong.

I've also got a GS2 i9100 from Bell that is unlocked for use on Telus. The battery was completely brutal when i got the phone. I could probably leave it on standby and it would only last 8 hours or so before dying (with data on).

With respect to battery life, i picked up an aftermarket battery from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Anker-GT-I9100-Compatible-SGH-I777-T-moblie/dp/B00567Y7A6/ref=sr_1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1343515198&sr=1-4&keywords=i9100+anker
and now i'd say my battery is about on par with what my htc desire used to be. It's not great, but i can get through most of the day without having to recharge it (i keep a charger at work, which i plug my phone into for an hour or two at the end of the day just to top it off before going home).

With respect to ROMS, i'm using CM9 RC2 at the moment and it seems to not have the same restart or SOD (sleep of death) problems that other ICS roms seem to have. It also supports 1080p video recording, and i can't think of any features it's missing besides FM radio.

Cyanogen wiki has a step by step guide here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II:_Full_Update_Guide

you can get CM9 RC2 here: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=RC&device=galaxys2
just make sure that, for any CM rom, you download the latest google apps package: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version#Google_Apps

I think the 5s has uses the same process as the 5. I just replaced mine a couple months ago. Very easy process.

https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Battery-iPhone-ScandiTech-Repair/dp/B011IZFDKM/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1480793502&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=iphone+5s+battery&psc=1

They make a great product, excellent packaging and instructions.

Really it's two screws on the bottom, pry off the screen with the included tools, unscrew a small cover plate, unplug, remove battery....etc.

u/ziddey · 2 pointsr/essential

A playing card (or a metrocard or similar thin flexible plastic card) works well to cut through the adhesive. Start around the earpiece and go around carefully. Try not to exceed 1mm or so or you can damage the lcd. Screen should then be able to flip out. If you do end up damaging the lcd, it should still likely be usable. A replacement (seemingly non-oem) is around $40 on ebay.

As for the battery, the two strips of adhesive are supposed to pull from the top to release, but I've found them to break apart. Again, using the playing card is good to get it free.

For reassembly, I didn't use anything to affix the battery or screen afterwards since it's held in find with a case. If you're running bare though, light leakage around the edges can be a problem. A lot of people recommend b7000 glue, but I'd imagine some 1mm double sided tape would be better/easier.

u/lagerlover · 2 pointsr/Nexus5

I prefer getting them with the frame although I've replaced it both ways. THIS with frame and THIS without frame.

u/IMMA_WIZARD · 2 pointsr/AndroidQuestions

An Anker one off of Amazon, I bought one for my S3 and it massively improved it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00567Y7A6/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/280-9205787-0958720

u/HeadphoneJackal · 2 pointsr/iphone

I used this kit on my 5c when my phone had the exact same problem. It was going from over 30% to dead in a matter of seconds before.

Haven't had this problem once since changing out the battery a couple of months ago. It behaves like factory-new. If you've done it before and feel comfortable, it was definitely worth the effort.

It looks and operates same as the stock one.

I got this one on amazon: Middle Frame for Oneplus One LCD Display Touch Screen Assembly with Screen Digitizer Replacement Parts + Install Tools https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V9UBOSW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_Aey1utnXquJiT

And followed this guide:
https://youtu.be/uCka8Eg_Vqo

I had a trouble getting the volume up/down buttons off and ended up breaking them. Other than that everything went fine per the guide. Just be sure you get under the wire/pad with some small tweezers and you'll be OK. I pulled too hard on the wire.

u/arebe2 · 2 pointsr/Nexus5

I wrecked the headphone jack on my Nexus 5 and decided I would give DIY repair a try. It turns out that working on these phones is not terribly difficult.

Here's a $60-ish kit on Amazon with new screen and tools for the job: http://www.amazon.com/Display-Screen-Digitizer-Assembly-Google/dp/B00HPRZPHO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1416507058&sr=8-2&keywords=nexus+5+screen

And a YT video on how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbcPQ6JKoJA (the vid is 15 mins long, so worst case you might spend 30 minutes on a DIY).

If you're already considering a new phone but liked your 5 for one reason or another you might want to give this a shot first. I was surprised at how easy it was to work on. Worst case scenario you're out $60 and 30 minutes of your time, but best case you keep the phone you already paid for.

Quick Edit: Looking further at the link I placed to the Amazon kit the reviews are pretty bad. Do some research and consider buying the screen and tools separate. When I did my repair I bought this toolkit (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008CLO7Q2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and a $2 headphone jack replacement. Lots places refer to the Nexus 5 as the LG D820 as well, so you can search by that on AliBaba or eBay.

u/doenr · 2 pointsr/Nexus5

> preferably <$300

If you are willing to do the repair yourself, this is the <$20 solution.

I bought an identical part when my charging port broke a few years ago.

You might want to get a generic $10 phone repair kit as well, it will make the whole process a lot more easy.

The charging port, the notification LED and the microphone are all part of this flex cable, so you will be replacing all of these in one session.

I used this tear-down guide to change the part (jump to 5:38 if the time stamp doesn't work for you).

You will have to re-use the plastic frame that is glued to the flex cable, but don't worry, you won't have to remove the battery or heat up the phone like they do in the video. The most difficult part for me was to glue the LED back onto the plastic frame, but it worked out in the end.

The phone still works to this day, in fact, I have to use it right now as a spare phone because my Pixel 3a's digitizer broke and I am waiting for it to be repaired.

u/MagicMoon · 2 pointsr/nexus4

I've seen replacement backs on amazon for about 20 bucks and I don't think they're too hard to put on. Might be worth looking into.
*Edit: Here's a link to a replacement back on amazon. Reviews say it is pretty good and it should make your phone look new again.

u/Nierv · 2 pointsr/Android

I got this one a few weeks ago for my S2, works a charm

u/CantHearYou · 1 pointr/Android

Yup. I currently have this on my S3 because the battery life was so bad. So even though the S3 with that gigantic battery pack on it is 3 times the size of the S6, they will have about the same battery life.

If you can get through a whole day with the S3 then you can probably make it 2 days on the S6.

u/userdel · 1 pointr/Android

Buy one of these to remedy your S3 battery life woes http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AAJM81A/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It adds some thickness but not much weight and it actually feels like a better grip to me. Wait for the Note 3 though, if you're going to switch.

u/daoue20 · 1 pointr/oneplusone

I bought the screen with the LCD and my seller gave me what seemed like the tape I needed. It was not. To make a long story short, you will need, ideally, 1mm double sided LCD screen tape. I got mine on amazon for super cheap. Just look up double sided screen tape or something. I bought something similar to this, if not this exactly, I'm not sure I'm on mobile so I don't have my history saved.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005GITURA/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1426566657&sr=8-1&keywords=LCD+tape+1mm&pi=AC_SX200_QL40

Don't be afraid to use it. I was kind of conservative with how much I used and wish I used more but I'm not opening that back up.

u/sqygrene · 1 pointr/lgg4

Okay, I might as well just get this one on amazon then (2 day shipping).

I'm just concerned about the negative reviews... Some people are complaining about screen quality, but perhaps they are incorrect

Do not buy this lcd display...mine started lifting on the sides after a week. And the display had a yellow warmth display to it, not crisp bright display at all.

Compared side by side with my son's brand new LG G4, this screen is washed out, white-washed (especially wallpaper), as if GAMMA is cranked up too high. I'll assume this glass display

"

Double tap does not work, bad color saturation, erratic touch sensors, can't even hang up the phone in the middle of a call. The list goes on.

I left my phone charger-down in a puddle (treadmill cup at the gym) for a solid 15 minutes and I damaged my charging port as well. It wouldn't charge, just heat up. I ended up replacing the little orange daughterboard inside (don't be scared, it only took 10 minutes and a fingernail) with this cheap one:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K7F2NW6/

Probably cheaper than a wireless charger

u/Ixa · 1 pointr/nexus4

I bought this recently: (nexus 4 back)[ http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FRBVMLS] well I stuck at this formatting thing on my phone...

$19.88 - comes with Pry tool and (shitty) torx screwdriver.

It took about 30 minutes to swap. I was being very very careful, but it was easy.

u/EnrYg · 1 pointr/galaxynote4

Ah, fair enough. It seems like Amazon are in fact still the best option then.

I got this 4550mAh beast:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AAJM81A/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My phone is now bulky as all hell, but Ive had it unplugged for two days before on light use and it was still over 50%.

u/mysnna · 1 pointr/iphone

Replace your screen with this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JETJXHY/

I did it the other day and it took me less than an hour though I would recommend having a better set of tools. The tools included would work but it will be easier with better tools. There are other cheaper screens out there but this is a good compromise. By doing this you'll instantly raise the value of your phone

u/redditisforfags3 · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

Oh, I'm looking into it now and I see what you're getting at - a replacement that has the whole frame attached, so you just clip the motherboard into it.

http://www.amazon.com/Flashtechllc-Display-Screen-Digitizer-Assembly/dp/B00OPWFLSU

Basically this?

u/Oddzilla · 1 pointr/iphone

I literally just did a 5s battery replacement last night. Got the scanditech one from Amazon here, which is essentially the same as the ifixit one:

http://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Battery-iPhone-ScandiTech-Repair/dp/B011IZFDKM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1463409128&sr=8-3&keywords=scanditech

It went well, except for the adhesive strip removal in the back of the phone. The adhesive snapped which made me have to slowly pry the battery upwards in order to be able to access it again, which felt super uneasy.

Just be wary that you should take your time with the adhesive strips, because man, it's a pain in the ass if they snap.

Also, when using the suction cup, I found it super difficult to lift up the screen, so I would caution to take is slow, find a break between the metal frame and the screen, wedge the spudger in there, and guide it around the screen to undo the clips without pulling the suction cup.

I went with "gently pulling the suction cup" like described in ifixit's and scanditech's own guides and, once one of those screen clips undid it self, the entire thing flew open way faster than I expected.

Fortunately didn't break the fragile touch ID cable.

u/Coraz28 · 1 pointr/oneplus

I know a lot of time has passed, but unfortunately I was really busy IRL. I read some horror stories about chinese post service, especially with fragile pieces, and I need my screen fast and all in one piece. I was thinking of buying something like this, even though it's more expensive I can have it in 2 days with Prime. Do you think it's good enough?

Sorry for bothering you again.

u/hartleyshc · 1 pointr/nexus4

I ordered this one about a month or so ago from Amazon. Rounded edges and 10 points. The diffuser sucks, but is not a deal breaker. It doesnt have the nice fade the original does. It is gorilla glass. Been in my pocket everyday, no scratches. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L4MF8XC/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_OR2gub13JZ9AY

u/wolfanator13 · 1 pointr/Nexus6P

I didn't buy oem as per what others reporting no problems with larger capacity batteries. I installed it, and went through three 20%-80% charge cycles so far. Accubattery is not recalibrated for the larger size and is reporting 106% currently.

This is what I purchased. (Upgraded) Nexus 6P Battery 3600mAh | AexPower Li-Polymer HB416683ECW Battery Replacement for Huawei Google Nexus 6P H1511 H1512 with Tools | Nexus 6p Battery Replacement Kit [24 Month Warranty] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L92KM59/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_3ADCCbW67XJXH

I got [this] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y3JGZM6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_XCrUBbBKGPYZ6). Just heat with a hair dryer and use pliers to fish out cracked glass. Be careful not to scratch cameras. Not a big deal. Did it today in about 10 mins. It is glass and will splinter!

u/huffalump1 · 1 pointr/nexus4

Taking forever to ship though. I might get it by thanksgiving...

This is allegedly the only OEM one available. Shipping is $18 but it's less than a week: http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-lg-nexus-4-e960-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing.html

Take a look at that. I've replaced a few cracked screens myself, and they're usually pretty straightforward. The link was just the first example I found, but considering it's $50 and not $150+, I'd take a shot at it.

u/felixgolden · 1 pointr/lgg4

Depending on which carrier/version of the phone (doesn't work on the AT&T model), for less than $20 you can get the a qi wireless charging sticker or a whole replacement back with it already installed and a wireless charger. http://www.amazon.com/OEM-Wireless-Charging-Battery-Models/dp/B00N29ECGE/ref=pd_sim_107_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=41MHTf83QBL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=016DNWX8TFJ63GN91TTP

I just did the sticker swap on my g4 last week. It took 10 minutes, but probably could have done it quicker if I wasn't being more careful than was really necessary.

u/xxTheGoDxx · 1 pointr/Android

> So no, all batteries below 21 USD are certainly not original / new. My Samsung battery was manufactured in 2016.

That is a strange logic. Buying from an OEM store is almost always more expensive than buying from another retailer.

Anyway, if you receive those in the original packaging they are definitive original: https://www.amazon.de/Samsung-EB-KN910BWEG-EB-KN910BWEGWW-Akku-Ladestation-Ersatz-Akku/dp/B00NFWTX8A

If you receive them without the packaging its probably a fake.

u/CaptainCougar · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

Oh well then yeah, that would be completely different lol. You will probably need to do a screen replacement then. You could probably get something like this and replace it by following a YouTube video. Remember that you need to replace both the digitizer AND the LCD. Having the frame already attached also makes the job much easier.

Shenmz battery from Amazon. Here's a link, it comes with the battery and some (low quality) tools for the replacement. If you plan on replacement, I would get some proper prying tools from ifixit. The ones included are soft and easily breakable. Keep in mind that you might not get 3800mah like I did.

Failing that, root and install stock Android Jellybean or Cyanogenmod.

$15 "pro kit" on amazon.

I got quoted yesterday for glass replacement at $140.

The pro kit has a comment that has some great advice, and i believe there are some videos. I have the phone insurance, and for $100 i can get a replacement. I can keep the old phone too for a small (compared to a new phone) fee. So i think i'll give the glass repair kit a go as long as there is no legal crap associated with the fee.
