Top Reddit comments about Gun Holsters, Cases & Bags:

u/buckyboo22 · 14 pointsr/CCW
  • S&W M&P Shield 9mm - $380
  • Beltman quickship black belt - $80
  • Black Arch proto holster - $75
  • Federal HST/Hornady Critical Defense - $25
  • Eyes - $10
  • Ears - $65
  • More ears - $21
  • Range bag - $30

That puts you at around $750 depending whether you have to pay tax on the handgun, transfer fees, etc.

The remaining $250 should be enough for an introduction to handgun safety class at your local range plus a bunch of cheap ammo to practice with.

Edit: I forgot, don't forget to account for the cost of your CCW permit. Depending on where you live and what required classes you have to take that could easily consume your remaining $250.

Hello /r/guns, I have a request.

I took home the M30-IMP today, and swung by the range. This thing is surprisingly accurate, if nose-heavy. I bought it mostly because it had a 1980s dystopian future kind of vibe to it, and I am going to take it to the steel match in a couple weeks and put it through the paces. Now, I could just take it to the line in a hard case, but where's the gun in that? I want to walk around with it on my hip. And for that, Reddit, I need your help.

If I take the flashlight off the bottom, I could probably cram it into a breaching shotgun scabbard. That seems cheapest and easiest, and I could probably even get it locally. But even the shot VooDoo Tactical one seems long for this use.

Strike Industries has a retention system set up for a sling swivel stud and hey - I have them! But it doesn't have any means of policing the barrel, which is a bit iffy with my use at the range. Plus it's expensive.

And there ... I run out of ideas. Custom make something? With all the width at the nose, I would need to start with something like a quiver. Any ideas on something designed to take weight? Bonus points it it looks like it would fit into a Robocop or Mad Max movie.

Neither of those belts are stiff enough to be gun belts.

Check out something like this belt. I have worn it for years. You do not want a riggers belt unless you plan on rappeling from something.

Your holster is also not any good for appendix carry. I would look at the offerings from: Raven Concealment, Haley Strategic's Incog line, Bradford Tactical Holsters, and T-Rex Holsters.

I carry a Nano IWB as well. I have found it just too bulky to pocket carry. Maybe some people wear their pants differently, but even my most relaxed pair of jeans is not loose enough to allow a Nano and holster to fit without looking and feeling like I have a brick in my pocket.

If I have to pocket carry, I go with an LCP, just because it's as small as I can get in a decent caliber. I've found the best pocket holster to be a Desantis Superfly. It's extremely tacky on the outside and fits an LCP well without coming out of the pocket when drawing. Whatever it is on the outside kind of feels like those rubber mats you put on your dashboard to hold a cellphone or sunglasses in place even under heavy g-forces from driving around. There's a reason it's rated so highly on Amazon.

Sorry, I don't have any advice for pocketing the Nano. I haven't been successful in my attempts, and luckily already had the LCP for the rare occasions when IWB doesn't work.

This thing hides the G19 really well and feels great at 5'oclock and appendix. Favorite holster and for 50 bucks it was a good deal.

Yeah, if you have the G3 one they sent you the wrong holster.

This is the G3 one. Notice the model designations, M44BJG3Z0 vs M44BJG5Z0

If you compare your picture to the user picture of the G3 holster you'll notice the very tight stitching near the trigger guard area.

Whereas the the G5 holster user picture has very loose stitching.

Also on your holster it cleary states G3 where on your Amazon order link it clearly states M44BJG5Z0. I would contact Amazon about the mix up they may not even be aware

I got an LCP 1 not too long ago, bought an Uncle Mikes and returned it. It would not do me right, and I couldn't get it to draw well. Bought this and I'm beyond pleased with it. Can carry IWB or in pocket, and the gun always draws out smoothly. I carry it more days than I don't.

The material is also stiffer and does a better job of covering the trigger. Well worth the investment if you ask me.

Shooting mat and rear bad like the other guy suggested. My first bag was a sock filled with unpoped popcorn and tied off... I still use that bag fairly often. this is the mat/bag that I have and I love it.

One thing that I would highly recommend is a scope lover. If you don't have one now then you might not notice how nice it is to have available to you. It van make a very big difference. I have a weaver (I think) anti cant device (scope level) and it was about $30 but I think it's well worth it. If I ever get another level it will probably be a solid piece instead of the hinged one I have now.

Hope this is helpful!

u/beast_in_black · 2 pointsr/opencarry

+1 on all the points here, especially on the Safariland instead of the Serpa.

Personally, I use the Safariland 6360 ALS/SLS for my 1911, which provides Level-III retention; here's one in basketweave finish and one in a plain black finish for the G19 if you're interested.

Note that by default it comes with a belt loop for 2.25" duty belts (which is how I wear mine), but you can get Universal Belt Loop adapters for other belt widths so it can be worn with dress belts - here's a UBL for 2" belts, and here's one for 1.5" belts.

I like the 6360 a bit better than the 6378 because of the added retention provided by the SLS hood, as well as the secure belt loop instead of the paddle.

Also, the offer for OC company is a good one; I'll be happy to give you guys company on your OC jaunts on the weekends, if you can PM me about a day in advance.

Judging from this, and knowing that the strap is about 1.6 inches high (40mm for standard ski goggle straps); I would confidently wildly guesstimate that the DK2 is about 4.1 inches high.

I wonder if this, this, or this might work as cheap options? Althought they all seem to be cutting it very tight on the depth. I am assuming the DK2 would sit in the case like it would sit on a table (like the first photo above), and not facing upward like they packaged it in the DK1 case, since there are a lot less case options that would fit it that way (without being huge)...

I have one of those ebay metal cases for my photo gear. I'm guessing you would be able to fit two full DK2 kits in it. They look decent and are affordable, but I find mine to be a bit heavy (5.5 pounds empty) and a bit awkward to carry sometimes (if I load it heavy specially). Even though they look decent, there is something about the build quality that feels slightly cheap when you handle it; specially the locking hinges. Nothing terrible in particular, but it just doesn't have that awesome quality feel of expensive cases like an HPRC, a Pelican or a Seahorse would have. But it does get the job done.

We should really know the actual DK2 dimensions (plus the accessories) before choosing a case. The hardest dimensions to accommodate will be the depth, since most small cases are also shallow.

try a small Hybrid holster, using Utiliclips. The the Utiliclip basically is a metal bracket that clamps down on whatever fabric, belt, jeans you have available without needing a belt. Well I lightly sanded 2 little burs right where the light goes and holstered and unholstered about 50 times and now it seems to be a lot better. So I'll be keeping it.

Still not as smooth as my Safariland holster for Glock 19 without a light but I didn't really expect it to be anyway.

I also threw one of these on it so it rides a litte lower and further away from the body.

I've got a bit of insight on this one. First I would say that I love my aliengear CT 3.0. I wear it on a kydex reinforced hanks belt and often forget its there. I had a few scares when I first got the setup, only to realize that my gun was safely tucked into my belt, exactly where I had left it. I also have a cheap single clip holster found here:

https://www.amazon.com/Concealment-Express-IWB-KYDEX-Holster/dp/B016D2OTXW/ref=sr_1_5?s=hunting-fishing&ie=UTF8&qid=1488004868&sr=1-5&keywords=glock+43+holster

Its great as a nightstand trigger guard cover or for wearing for a short period but after a bit it becomes uncomfortable and makes my hips and butt ache a bit (I carry at 4:00). This is where that padding on the Aliengear between the gun and your body is so amazing. It really does a lot to spread out the pressure of the gun against my body and makes the carrying experience much more pleasant and comfortable.

The only downside I have to the AG stems from my laziness. I prefer to have my gun in a holster before putting it on my belt, so that the trigger guard is covered at all times while I'm sliding it between my belt and body. The AG is not the easiest thing to put on and take off my belt, so I usually end up reholstering the gun with the holster already on my belt. I still much prefer the Aliengear to any other holster Ive tried though.

And I've never had a bad experience with leather but my grandpa has some leather holsters that practically feel like thick cotton now. Kind of turned me away from the idea.

PS- Also if you do go with the AG, it comes with a small tube of threadlocker to put on the screws so they don't fall out. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP! They luckily give you extra screws because I lost one on the first day, but not once since after using the threadlocker. I hope this helps your decision a bit.

Stay safe!

Ive been carrying with this one sometimes pocket carry, sometimes aiwb since May and I love it. If I’m going somewhere more public ill stick with my P07 but this is a great “walking around outside” or gas station run alternative. I’m pretty active when I carry chasing around a toddler so it really says something when i forget im carrying this. DTOM IWB/ Pocket carry

u/Captain_Garcia · 2 pointsr/CCW

You have a few options, some of which you might not have considered.

  • Belly band (Which you listed). I recommend the crossbreed modular kydex belly band for trigger protection.

  • an ulticlip which can clamp onto your pants behind your belt.

  • get a navy blazer and use a close to body OWB holster (or a strong side or behind the back IWB)

Personally, I would choose the OWB or IWB with a blazer. Preferably OWB.

Note: BTW I have done all 3 and still prefer the OWB with blazer method. Just a little more risky of being noticed but you can add an IWB holster to the equation if you want.
u/Dthdlr · 2 pointsr/CCW

I don't wear yoga pants or leggings, but if I did I'd drink XX.

Oh wait, I mean I'd have the same concern about the whole rig coming off. So you could replace the single clip with an UltiClip for another $10.

u/Twitcheh · 2 pointsr/CCW

I carry both OWB and IWB. IWB, I use a Crossbreed Supertuck at 8-8:30 position. OWB I use this: http://www.amazon.com/Glock-Polymer-Holster-Special-Trigger/dp/B0002V3E0A

It's a CHEAP OWB holster by Glock, and eventually I will upgrade, but it's so very comfortable. I wear it at the same position as IWB. It conceals pretty well, considering all I ever wear are jeans and a t-shirt. The only time it prints is if I have to bend down to pick up my son or a toy he's dropped, but I've long since stopped caring about printing. The populace at large probably wouldn't notice even if I strapped a Desert Eagle to my hip, so I'm comfortable with my 22. The only problems I ever run into are sitting down in a straight backed chair, where there's not enough give for the pistol's butt, but this is very rare.

u/The1payne · 2 pointsr/Fishing_Gear

Could do a smaller rifle case with the foam padding. Then you have room for lures in the case as well. Most rifle cases also can be locked secured far easier than a diy option if air travel was a future requirement.

What case to get depends on what you want to do with it.

Going from safe to range and not much else? Soft case bag, I like the one that rolls out into a shooting mat.

Going on a road trip and want something more heavy duty to be bounced around in the car and put a solid lock on it? This one does the job for me, there are dozens that serve this tier of hard case though.

Packing a really pricey gun on a long hunting trip and you want it to be able to survive WWIII? Pelican. Pelican is basically the god tier hard case, with the price tag to match. I got this on sale for $170 a few months ago, this is where my hunting rifle lives whenever it comes out of the safe because I care about my hunting rifle a lot more than I do my AR.

u/slid3r · 2 pointsr/CCW

Well, your mileage may vary. This holster is well known for this flaw. Here is just one set of customer reviews.

Amazon is also full of these.

u/CypherFox · 2 pointsr/airsoft

They're a lot deeper than they look! If all else fails, just get a smaller Plano case just for the guns and get another lockable container for everything else. Perhaps something like this (they're pretty chunky)? You don't have to use the center foam layer. I've even seen people use emptied out tool boxes bike locked to benches.

u/Daybis · 2 pointsr/CCW

I'm big guy that likes running. I have been using a Belly Band: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N4HAZ5F/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I can wear it at my waist, but I prefer to wear it above my belly with the firearm somewhere between my left arm and boob (10 o'clock). And use a cross draw. With it on my hip, I constantly feel like it's sliding down past my butt, no matter how tight I get it, so I wear it up higher. The only downside to this holster, in my opinion, is the retention strap. It takes a little practice to get use to. I think the belly band is also good for lounging around the house.

Edit: I carry a G26.

Don't really need to bring cleaning supplies to the range IMHO. I like the Howard Leighton electronic ear pro.

Howard Leight by Honeywell Impact Sport Sound Amplification Electronic Earmuff, Classic Green (R-01526) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001T7QJ9O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_1JTBybE95PQGA

If you don't want electronic ones then any ear pro for shooting from 3m, peltor, and Howard Leight is a good call.

As far as a range bag goes, of its just the one gun then I would think too hard about it. Most range bags are overpriced tactical fashion accessories. I've spent money on nice ones for 2 and 3 gun competitions because the extra organization and protection is nice. When I'm taking just my Glock 19 to the range I chuck it in a tool bag.

If you really want a purpose built one that isn't too expensive I'd recommend this one:

u/CaptainQuattro · 1 pointr/EDC

It's comfortable enough for me. I've gone hours long car rides and sat through movies at the theater and forgotten its there. As long as the firearm you're trying to conceal is reasonably small (which is obviously not a problem with the G27), and assuming you have a proper carry belt, it's perfectly fine in my book.

As far as I'm concerned, all of the kydex holsters of that style are, more or less, the same. As long as your shopping for that style of kydex holster, there really isn't that much difference between a "cheapo" holster vs a "name-brand" manufacturer. I got mine off Amazon but, if I'm not mistaken, Concealment Express is actually a company based out of Florida, that sells their holsters on their own website too.

Don't just take my word for it though, there are hundreds of pretty stellar reviews on Amazon as well. Here's the one for the G27: https://www.amazon.com/Concealment-Express-IWB-KYDEX-Holster/dp/B00UFEGQ54/ref=lp_11071801011_1_5?srs=11071801011&ie=UTF8&qid=1467614560&sr=8-5.

Are there better holsters? Yeah, definitely. But $35 on Amazon and no lead time before shipping made it a great deal in my book.

> I am finding it really hard to wrap my head around carrying a firearm "just in case". How do you picture a scenario going where the gun is useful to you, rather than just a liability? Are you not more likely to be shot while attempting to draw your gun to defend yourself then you are to actually be able to draw it?

I don't really have any specific scenario in my head that I imagine when I leave my home each day because it's unpredictable, but it could be in any situation where I feel that my life, or someone else's is in immediate danger. That could be during a robbery for example. I could be at home, or grocery shopping, or walking on the sidewalk. Part of the reason why I carry everywhere (and why it's recommended that you carry everywhere) is because there's no telling when your life might be in danger in the rare instance that it is, which is completely unpredictable.

Also, carrying itself isn't dangerous at all assuming you use a good holster, such as a kydex holster, so there's really no reason not to carry. My gun is always in the holster, so I simply remove the holster (which has the gun) from my pants when I'm home and put the holster back in my pants when I leave - at no point am I handling a gun with an open trigger because the holster is covering the trigger.

> Are you not more likely to be shot while attempting to draw your gun to defend yourself then you are to actually be able to draw it?

There's always that risk assuming the other person has a gun, however there's also the fact that my life would already be immediately in danger.

> is your well crafted chemical explosive device that you wear strapped to your body not more likely to have a dangerous misfire or similar than you are ever to use it in self defense?

Impossible for that to happen due to the design of the gun. It is mechanically impossible. This is actually a fairly common misconception about guns - what usually happens during a misfire while carrying is that the person is using an old leather holster (leather is hard initially, but it eventually softens). When the leather softens, the gun doesn't stay in place well and the leather bends which presses down the trigger (assuming the trigger isn't very heavy to begin with, which varies by gun). This is why it's important to use a good holster, such as kydex, which is a hard molded plastic that keeps the gun in place via retention.

> Again, not judging. Genuinely curious. This is one of the bigger cultural differences between Canada and the States, and you're one of the most open and articulate people I've met so far willing to talk about it.

Thanks, and no worries! I'm happy to have this discussion.

Try to wear darker shirts, it's harder to see bulge due to lack of shadows.

Tight gun belt helps hold the holster close to my body.

Just know that even if you tuck your shirt in, the belt clips will still be visible on the outside of your belt. So if you have to tuck your outer most layer in, people can see the holster clips. Pocket carry might be more suitable for you if you work in an office environment or something.

I love this belt. Elite CO Shooters Belt with Cobra Buckle (Medium, Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007Y8IQYS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_8C65wb62MFJKS

Takes a few longer to get on as you can't just loop through. You remove buckle, feed belt & then put buckle on and zip to size. Cobra buckle rocks.

Check this out. Looks like a factory rebuilt Glock 17 and you can pick up a Glock brand out of wasteland holster cheap. All under $400.

I use this for my LCP. Works great, I can run with it, sit down comfortably.

I also suggest checking out a grip for it. Makes a huge difference how it feels in my hand.

I'd opt for the rifle case/mat combo.

https://www.amazon.com/VISM-NcStar-Rifle-Case-Shooting/dp/B003G2S6LY?th=1

Midway's is $10 more on sale right now: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/939497671/midwayusa-heavy-duty-shooting-mat-tactical-rifle-case

The Midway lightweight mat is the only one I know of off hand that will fold up small enough to fit in a range bag. It's on sale for $30. That said, it's very basic.

I don't think I'd go with a roll up/sleeping bag mat type mat.

I think what you want is high density closed cell polyethylene foam.

Walmart had these for $11 last Black Friday but $14 isn't bad either. The one I got had a layer of pick and pluck but I can't see if this one does or not

I wear a DTOM convertible pocket to in the waist band holster and switch. It up several times a day. Having a car with tinted windows gives me some privacy if I need to fix my setup from hip to pocket or vice versa

OWB or IWB? IWB, I love my Galco Triton. PRices seem to have gone up since I bought mine a few years ago, but here it is for $43 shipped.

u/Gelven · 1 pointr/mtgcube

I'm looking at making my own case for my cube and there's some closed-cell foam you can get on Amazon for various prices and dimensions.

Here's the one I'm thinking of using: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015JRXH1W/?coliid=I1Q12GIWX8R7RE&colid=2TQMEEXAFEHZM&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Plano 108031 AW XL Pistol/Accessories Case Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0029KDHT0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_mp9KDb420VRA1

I have one of their AW rifle cases permanently mounted on the roof of my vehicle. Has chains, air compressor, jack, ratchet straps, gloves, jumper cables, torque wrench, and a few other items in it. I've ratchet strapped items down on top of it and it hasn't broken. It's been up there for about a year through all types of weather and hasn't leaked at all either.

DESANTIS Super Fly Pocket Holster Ambidextrous Black LCP/P3AT/DB Nylon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003K84C6M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_bD6QCbFT7XAXK

I use this but for my p938 with or without the flap it breaks up the look of the gun well

u/Jwast · 1 pointr/Glocks

For reals, I've been conceal carrying OWB with a Glock sport combat holster for a couple months now and it is really nice. Super light weight and the best retention of any of my holsters. This was originally just a placeholder while I did research and tried out other holsters for IWB but I am so satisfied that now I have no plans at all to replace it unless I REALLY REALLY need to carry IWB with a tucked shirt or something.

I prefer a 2 point sling so I got this one.

u/improbablydrunknlw · 1 pointr/canadaguns

I use This fits my Ar lower, two pistols and 4 mags easily. Could probably fit more of I tried. Sail has it for $20.

u/antariusz · 1 pointr/czscorpion

There “is” a kit you can buy to add QD mount to the front, and the tailhook has a QD in the rear (but attaching a sling to end of the folding brace is silly from a weight perspective on a 2 point sling, But the easier answer is, you don’t really need to. A QD mount isn’t really any faster than just a regular ol’ metal hook style mount imo.

Not gonna beat the chineesium at 12 bucks for what is just a fabric belt with simple metal fasteners.

the glock 3.5 connector, a good holster that you will use everyday, hornady critical duty, federal hst, or speer gold dots, upgrade the sights if they bother you. they are fine to me

holster i recommend

u/arkycop · 0 pointsr/EDC

I understand that, but surely if you can get a $500 pistol, you can come up with an extra $14 for a holster like this. That cardboard holster is just a time bomb waiting to happen when it comes to failure. Accidental discharges are pretty common with Glocks (Ask me how I know).

u/MoneyKeyPennyKiss · 0 pointsr/1022

USGI sling can be found here.

If you choose to buy elsewhere, be sure to buy cotton, not nylon. Nylon has a tendency to slip, especially in the loop configuration you'll learn at Appleseed.

You'll also need sling swivels and sling studs. You can get them as a set here.

Tip for installing the studs on your synthetic stock: Start with a small drill bit about 1/2 half the size of the screw on the stud. Pre-drill holes in the stock. Insert a nail through the sling stud and twist it into the stock until the holes are perpendicular to the bore.

You're all set. Good luck and happy shooting.
