Best paint pens according to redditors

Yeah, you can get away with even putting these in the wash. You can wrap them in a tied pillow case or preferably a mesh bag made for washing sneakers. Put the cycle on normal and put in a tide pod. Make sure to remove laces and inner sole (although I've left the sole in on accident with no issues). Don't put them in the dryer.

This should clean the fabric quite easily and most of the boost as well. These oil based paint markers do the trick. You can even fix some imperfections on the plastic part of the cage too if you're careful.

Paint the lines on!

I used a wire wheel brush on my wired drill (a kit like this: http://www.harborfreight.com/wire-wheelcup-brush-set-6-pc-60475.html)

Since you said you're relatively new to guitars, I thought I would pass on a few 'ownership' tips:

• It's not a 'she'. Guitars are gender neutral. Guitars are 'its'. To refer to them otherwise is to risk triggering them. No. I'm not kidding. If your guitar decides to turn against you, you will never get it back on your side. No matter how much time or money you spend: Once it's gone it's gone. (Every experienced player has gone through a guitar turning on them. It sucks.)

• Remember you said this. I strongly urge you to print this out or write it down and put it somewhere safe. The day is going to come when you will indeed seriously consider selling one of your guitars. When that urge hits, take out these words, and vanquish any thoughts you have of parting with any guitar you have. I promise you, you will never feel regret from anything else you do in life, like the regret you will feel from parting with a guitar. It will haunt you for the rest of your life. On your deathbed you will think of it, and the overwhelming reality that you have failed at life will course through you like someone just hit you with a defibrillator. The last thought you will have as you draw your last breath, surrounded by your loved ones and family, is regret. (Also, you'll be going to Hell. So get used to that new reality.)
  
  
• You've taken pictures of your guitars. Take more. Close-ups that show any defects or unique marks, paint or finish, or design elements that can be used to identify the guitar. Take a picture of the serial number. Take a picture of the sticker that is inside the sound hole of the acoustic.
  
  
• Get an invisible ultraviolet pen. Pull the back plate cover off, and write your name, driver's license #, and phone number on it. Pull the strings off the acoustic and do the same thing right on to the sound hole sticker or around the outside edge of the sticker.
  
  You can get an ultraviolet flashlight that will fit in your front pocket from Amazon for about eight bucks. You see your guitar at a show, for sale, whatever, you can call the cops and show them proof of ownership right there.
  
  Make three copies of all your paperwork. Anything you got from the store, that was in the guitar case, any description you wrote down, burn copies of the pictures to a CD and to a USB drive. PUT THIS STUFF IN A PLACE YOU WON'T LOSE IT, AND YOU'LL BE ABLE TO FIND QUICKLY. I can't stress doing this last part enough.
  
  As someone who has tens of thousands of dollars of gear, and has been responsible for hundreds of thousands of dollars of major player's gear, trust me, you want to spend the time to do what I outlined above. It makes a world of difference when gear gets stolen.
  
  I was on tour with Satriani when one of the Silver Surfers was stolen. The next day when it was discovered missing was... Well, lets just say tempers were running high. But the Guitar Tech. had all the info. so Joe's road manager was able to give it to all us other Techs. and we spent months scouring our local Crag's List and other places after the tour ended.
  
  Enjoy your new gear. And remember: There's no such things as too many guitars. Only ex-wives and girlfriends who have made the mistake of bringing it up think that.

I highly recommend oil based paint pens over permanent markers. Thy take a little longer to dry but look 100x better and won't fade (sharpie can fade over a long time). They are easy to find at local craft stores (I got mine at Michaels if you have that close). These are the ones I've used.

An alternative to a sticker is the painty-pens they use at garages to write on windows. It comes off really easy:

You could draw a big knob on their windscreen.

So, you can do this yourself. I don't think it's going to work all that well though. I lived through the late 80's and early 90's personalization of all the things craze and for this task, I'd use paint pens. I'm not terribly familiar with the hydroflask brand, but from a google it looks like it would work. A rougher texture to the outside would hold paint better.

I'm assuming you aren't planning on putting this in the dishwasher, merely rinsing it out. If you're planning to do that, or put it in the sink with other dishes, to soak, doing anything outside of simply rinsing the inside, don't do that. This is not food safe paint and unless you're doing ceramics and baking all that in, there's no such thing that will do what you want it to.

I don't have any experience with the latter, so I'd read reviews.

As to the artistic point. You can print out clouds, tape them to the water bottle and trace them. You could do some parting clouds over your name/initials/monogram a la the Simpsons. Maybe a rainbow? I'd love a rainbow aesthetic in kind of a 70's way- like it winds itself around the bottle being funky. We made 70s funky letters back in the day by writing bubble letters and then tracing around them with all the colors.

Or, you could just buy some cool stickers like the Nalgene contingent and call it a day. I really don't think the paint is going to hold up.

You can actually get this white sharpie and draw it on the sole of your shoe to make it white and then use nail polish remover to get it off anywhere you dont want it

You could make simple, elegant designs with the brushes and markers that look so much smoother than a traditional woodburner and much faster too. I have a few keepsake boxes I'm going to put outlined brushstrokes of animals and an ornamental design around the edge, stain it and seal it. Perhaps add some gold metallic accents if it's not too much. It could be finished in a few hours and look like it took days.

I used one of these. It took about 15 minutes per wheel to put on two coats. Because the tires were brand new, I did not have to clean them off or anything. I have already taken it through a car wash and the lettering stayed on fine.

A few weeks ago /u/ishred5 posted this, figured I'd give it try on my Diamond Pros. Used the same paint pens as ishred5. This does take quite some time, so if you want to kill a few hours this will do it. The paint seems to hold up well even after a few workout sessions.

My method:

• I know it’s probably too late for your reason for posting this but you want to use 2-3 layers of crap spray on the boost.
  
• Then get a gentle cleaner, I use he crep cleaner and brush to get dirt off on cleaning days.
  
• If after cleaning you see some “yellowing” or discoloration, use one of these.
  
• using the oil paint pen I make sure there’s absolutely no dirt or grime left on it, and then lightly cover the spots and let it dry. Then repeat 1-2 more times.
  
  The oil paint pen does leave a bit of texture, and on pristine boost may be visible, but on my daily driver NMD’s and casual EQT’s it works great.

It’s probably the same thing as these. I bought some from a local art store last year and use them with worm dye. Works perfectly.

If that's too expensive, you can go down to the craft/hobby shop and get individual paint markers. Clear nail polish, or super glue, helps prevent rapid wearing away.

I'm going to get alot of shit for this! When I got the shoes the midsoles were BURNT yellow, hadn't been cleaned in years. After I hit them with the Jason Markk, I purchased this sharpie and colored over the midsole, made it crispy white. It's an oil based white and made them look BRAND NEW! Hope that helps.

I gave it a shot. I’m not particularly handy/crafty, and I didn’t seem to get even coverage. It’s been about 2.5 months, and I’d say about half of the paint has worn away. That’s with me wearing the watch almost every day. One of these days, I’ll try again as the darkness of the bezel numbers kinda annoys me every time I look at my wrist.

Tamiya Gold Leaf will look fine, a little sparkly but the right color. It can be either brushed by hand or airbrushed on.

For convenience's sake, though, I would recommend a Gundam gold marker. It's basically a marker with gold paint inside rather than normal ink.

Either one can be bought online or at a Hobby Store (my local chain is HobbyTown) for pretty cheap (less than $3 a piece). You could maybe also use a gold Sharpie pen, but I don't know how that will look in terms of texture.

Getting the black details in-between the gold is another hill to climb, though. The simplest thing to do would probably be to get some black paint (Tamiya) and do it by hand. If you do that, though, you should probably not use the Gundam marker, as it has paint thinner in it that might dissolve whatever paint you put on top of it.

Ya man. I absolutely love white tire lettering. Did it on my last bike as well. Looks great in person. Extremely time consuming and strenuous though, to do well. Easier with the tires off the bike of course.

I have a $10 limit for my secret Santa at work and I found a set of wine glasses (4 of them) at a local thrift store for $1.50. I was stoked! I saw this thing on Pinterest about using paint pens on wine glasses so I went to Michaels with a 50% off coupon (they have one almost every week if you sign up for their emails) and bought these markers for about $6. I haven't tried it yet, and you have to bake the glass, but I imagine you can do it with any kind of glassware and would probably only need one set of markers to cover everyone? Thrift stores are also a great place to find vases for this type of project :)

This was all done free hand, I didn't plan anything out or sketch beforehand/etc. You can tell when you look fairly close that there are some drips and unintended splotches that I just worked into the design. I knew that if I planned it out beforehand I'd over-think everything and I would never actually paint it!

i've got some all white NMD's and i've tried so hard to clean them. Washing machine, hand washing, jason markk, etc. Nothing works. they are still yellowing. never getting all white shoes again

Pretty awesome. I use the sharpie oil based markers for my brass. They make a more opaque line that is easier to pick out from the pile or grass. I think they are a little wider than regular sharpies.

Fine tipped paint pen is your best option. The paint is pretty resilient so will show well into grinding.

It will probably be fine, but if you want to ensure that a signature is permanent, use a paint marker instead of a normal Sharpie. It's expensive, but it is guarantueed permanent. It uses an oil based paint instead of standard marker ink, and you'll never wipe that stuff off.

I use Gundam Marker Erasure to remove , and Renaissance Wax to prevent further color transfers.

If there's discoloration on the body, etc, Weathering Master works wonders.

I used an oil based marker, more specifically this one. I made a previous post showing the before and after here. The good thing about this method is that there's no cracking since it's ink not paint although I'm still waiting to see how long it takes before the ink wears out after wear.

Hi everyone! Just wondering if anyone has experience with the Gundam Marker eraser pen?

How does it affect Tamiya acrylics?? I’ve been painting small parts on my kit with said acrylics and I’m just wondering if it’ll ruin my paint job in the event that I messed up panel lining over them? I’m using the Gundam Marker pour type for panel lining.

I’ve done exactly this on 3 pairs of boost kicks.

Cool, thanks for the reply. When I do chrome work I just used a silver sharpie but your work looks much, much nicer.

sharpie paint pens. trick is to dab the paint on, not write like a pen. if you write like a pen/paint brush, you will murder the tip. so dab

I don't want to say that you cut it wrong because, who am I to say? But, in my experiences, cutting the tip just on a 45 degree angle yields some awesome results. You can definitely get thinner lines this way, and it really works well for calligraffiti style. Also, I highly recommend the Montana 30mm marker which you don't have to cut to get great lines.

Looks awesome. It looks like you got some of the rivets, but a nice little tool I've recently found is this little pen. It's been super helpful and really makes the small details pop.

I use this type of sharpie to paint my boost back to white on other pairs. They have a black, you could give it ago and see what happens.

The sharpie he is having a problem with is probably one of these Sharpie Oil Based Paint Markers. I don't think your idea to use spit would work, or that it's "super easy to get off glass".

The reason I suggested glass is because as far as I know that's what the LCD screen surface is made of. There might be a coating too.

Windex works similarly to lye. The ammonia dissolves in water to create ammonium hydroxide whereas the lye is sodium hydroxide. In both cases, the hydroxide deprotonates fatty acids, which makes them soluble in water.

Your idea to try nail polish remover (acetone) is a good idea.

Some marker tips might come in "dry" or frayed, so in that case I just dip them in water and am good to go!

If you want the really high quality dual brush pens, Tombow is my fave for the watercolor look, AND you can blend colors together to get fun gradients! :) The same with Le Plume. The difference is Tombow's thin tips are much thicker than Le Plume's, and its more runny than Le Plume. Both are more expensive though. Each marker is on average 1.50 compared to the Smart Color ones I linked earlier.

I also really like Staedtler! It doesn't smear, and there's a ton of colors. But I gravitated towards Tombow/Le Plume cause it was basically 2-in-1, lol.
