You can get 20,000+ games of any retro system all you need is to get a USB controller on ebay for whatever system you want for $10-13, like

https://www.amazon.com/Classic-USB-NES-Controller-Mac-Compatible/dp/B002YVD3KM

or https://www.amazon.com/Classic-Retro-N64-Bit-Wired-Controller/dp/B00KBAE52S/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1496205264&sr=1-2&keywords=usb+nintendo+64+controller

Then go to piratebay to get all the games and emulator for any system, double click any game open it in the emulator, hook up your laptop to your TV with an HDMI cord ya got your controller, ya got your games, ya got your TV screen boom duuuude ya golden. Get two controllers, play goldeneye multiplayer and mario kart ya set dude

That's what the gamepad is for. If you like the PSP form factor, there's this, this or this.

Alternately, if you enjoy gaming on tablets and want a larger Wii U/ PSP kind of setup, there's the PG-9023. PG-9083 and the BTC-938.

use 1: Hang it on a wall and use it as a digital photo frame.

use 2: Install it on a hinge bracket and mount it under your kitchen cabinets. Youtube, Hulu, chrome , etc should work. use it for recipies etc.

Use 3: Gab something like this https://www.amazon.com/ElementDigital-Bluetooth-Controller-Telescopic-Attachable/dp/B0783538GQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1539704739&sr=8-3&keywords=attachable+android+game+controller

even if it is older it should still handle NES, SNES, TG16, and Genesis games well and use it as a retro console.

Use 4: universal home theater remote https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-turn-your-tablet-into-a-universal-smart-home-remote/

I'm guessing this was using the Raspberry Pi 3 with the Retro Pie OS. I have done the same thing, but chose different controllers from 8bitdo

They are full analog, [mario walking](http://imgur.com/a/PlLxj
).

PJ64 2.0 doesn't detect the d-pad, but PJ64 1.6 does. So must be emulator issue, haven't tried later versions of the emulator.

I noticed some reviewers for the ones I bought said they were fake or had problems, but I have two and both work fine. Took them out just now, still good.
The only thing they lack is a legitimate memory pack socket (its just empty space), but that doesn't matter for emulators anyway.
They came with some discs which presumably had drivers, but I threw them away and never used them (thought it would be malware or something).

I believe this is the controller in question.

There's also a black and a red one.

The GameSir G3 controllers are highly regarded and super cheap wired($18) and wireless($22). The cheap one even comes with a phone bracket. Picking up an old X360/PS3 ($30ish) or better a PS4 controller ($40ish) would also be great choices.

What is your budget? Razer has some very good xb1 controllers, the wildcat for example. They are expensive but have mechanical buttons and dpad. The wildcat is wireless and the new one (can't remember the name right now) is wired

For your controller needs, you're referring to the "Duke" controller, right? The really big one? You'd have to get a USB adapter but I think it should work if you get one.

As for a 6-button with thumbsticks, check out Saitek. They have made several pads with thumbsticks and 6 face buttons. You have to double check the shoulder buttons though - it appears that some models (P2500, P880) only have 2 shoulder buttons, while others (P2600, P990) have 4. There is also an iBuffalo USB pad with 6 buttons and 4 shoulder buttons here.

The Saitek controllers did not get great Amazon reviews. I'd be concerned about reliability, especially if you intend to use it for everything. Might rather just get a USB Genesis/Saturn controller for those games and a more traditional gamepad for everything else.

u/ZeroBANG · 2 pointsr/emulation

from what i hear the old retro-bits were either close to perfect or total trash with no debate in-between.
i think the PC USB versions are the ones that were trash and the ones they made for the actual Sega consoles were at least competitive to the originals.

But i think now that they are licensed by SEGA and possibly have some person from SEGA reviewing the products (their name is on it, they will want to have some quality control over it) before they go on sale, so hopefully retro-bit will put their A-Game on for these pads.

Either way i ordered a "Hyperkin" USB pad ...that seems to be the best one of the knock-offs that are currently available in my region and guess it will do the job until the retro-bits are released, whenever that is.

u/DRMSCMTRU · 2 pointsr/darksouls3

this one is pretty good, the first one I got I had to return, but they gave me another one free of charge, so I basically saved $20, so I would say good customer service and I am very happy with the new controller.

u/RetroRocker · 2 pointsr/lowendgaming

This is the one I use: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vibration-Feedback-Gamepad-Controller-Joystick-architecture/dp/B00NP4GT6C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1474807122&sr=8-2&keywords=gamepad

If you can get used to the fact that the 'triggers' are actually buttons, then you'll be hard pressed to find any trouble with it, It suits me just fine. Maybe the USB cable could be longer.

Stardew Valley is going to come out on Android "sometime".

As for a controller for your tablet the options in handheld mode are pretty limited to the Ipega 9023 and Ipega 9083, and also this controller that looks similar to the 9023 but has a different d-pad - https://www.amazon.com/ElementDigital-Bluetooth-Controller-Telescopic-Attachable/dp/B0783538GQ/

For tabletop mode you could use any compatible controller. An Xbox One controller would be a good choice. The 1st eddition controller doesn't have Bluetooth but the revised ones do. They are everywhere, available used, and heck you could even buy one locally and test it out and return it if for some reason it didn't work out.

  1. The Amazon link says you use the GPIO to connect it to the DSI port so I would assume you could use the screen by itself so long as it has a power source of its own. So yeah you can use it alone + plug into HDMI port for a bigger screen if needed.

  2. As long as your battery pack can power at least 2 amps with a 5 volt charge you should be ok to power up the Pi. They say recommended power supply is 2.5 amp though so up to you if you wanna get a higher power rated battery pack.

  3. Can't confirm this as I used wired USB controllers, but from what I've seen other people on this subreddit, I would say 10-15' bluetooth connection would work.

  4. Again, can't confirm personally but reading other posts seems like you can, so long as you pair the controllers in a certain order. Also, I think you can edit the settings with a config file or using Retroarch.

  5. If I didn't care to be wired up, these are greatly recommended everywhere. (https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-Wireless-Bluetooth-Controller-Joystick/dp/B01MXLEYZ8/ref=lp_9176188011_1_5?srs=9176188011&ie=UTF8&qid=1492561323&sr=8-5)

I use an 8bitdo controller for NSMB deluxe and it really does work great.

I would recommend the version with the analog sticks as it would help if you wanted to create stages, as well as if you wanted to use it on any other switch games.

For the 360 controller you need a certain kind :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Controller-Windows/dp/B004JU0JSA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1344965681&sr=8-2

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Xbox-Common-Controller-Windows/dp/B004JU0JSK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344965767&sr=8-1

For the ps3 controller you need unofficial firmware and to have it emulate a 360 controller, of which there are many guides on the internet.

360 is supported but you need a special type, PS3 is cheaper if you already have one but a little more finicky.

u/HANKEN5TEIN · 2 pointsr/xcloud

I have the pg-9083. I don't really reccomend it though. The deadzone on the sticks can be quite annoying when you need fine aiming. It's just not built real well.

There's one I've been wanting to get that had some great reviews. Not cheap at $100 though.

I think this is caused when your controller doesn't support Xinput (not entirely sure what this means, but it's how windows reads controller inputs). You can find perfectly good Xinput controllers online. I've been using This one for ages.

Your first problem is looking at Amazon.com which is American. You could have a USB N64 controller from Amazon.ca by Friday for $31 + expedited shipping.

Or you could take the ferry to Victoria to get this if it's still available.

GameSir G3w is an amazing controller.
It's about the same size as a ps4 controller, which feels nicer in my hand than the larger Xbox 360/One gamepads that are all the rage.
The D-pad is top notch (rivaling the Japanese Saturn gamepad).
Analog sticks have just the right amount of distance and deadzone.
the l/r triggers are fantastic.
The ABXY buttons, while closer than most other gamepads, are still easy to hit individually by people with large hands (like myself).
The only complaint could be that the start/select should be swapped with Turbo/Clear, but even that isn't that big a deal in most situations.
Linux/Steam both detect it as a generic Xinput/Xbox360 controller, so it has zero issues working in games.
No noticeable input lag, either.

Plus, it's $22 USD. and definitely hits above it's weight class. It's my favorite controller for linux by a long shot.

I didn't recommend the Retro Bit Saturn controllers because of breaking dpad issues. If you can source an original Saturn controller (version 2 or japanese model) and use an adapter, you should be good to go. I have the blue genesis pad above, good times. Genesis controllers are easier to hold for me.

This is a decent bluetooth option and seems to meet the requirements you're looking for. It won't work with a case on, but the feel is good and it's very compact.

I had a Gamevice for my S7 Edge and it was by far the best controller I've had overall. It wasn't the best at everything, but it was compact, comfortable, and had zero latency. Build quality was nice too, though the D-Pad was a little touchy. I assume the Note 8 version works with the Note 9 since they are so similar in dimensions, but I've not seen any confirmation of it and I can't justify the price at the moment.

Looking for an Android controller mostly for emulation. What do you think about this one? (Looking for something that I can put an android phone into, works with most things and is not too outdated, below 3K)

u/SenorPancake · 1 pointr/Games

Your point isn't exactly correct. You don't need a PC for each person - local multiplayer isn't something that is completely unheard of on the PC - go to this link and enter "PC" as the system for a small taste of what is available - note that this just covers co-op games.

You can still set up a PC to be hooked up to your TV, connected to wireless controllers, and to play a multiplayer game together. For the most part, it doesn't require much setup, as modern PC games tend to auto-detect controllers. Add the benefit of the PC being able to emulate almost all of the classic systems (the Xbox and Xbox 360 being very notable exceptions), the potential of using custom USB controllers (such as N64 Controllers, NES Controllers, or SEGA Genesis controllers), and the cost of a PC comparable to the XB1 and the PS4 (about the same price), it can act as a very potent, cost-effective multiplayer machine.

u/EarthBelongsToAnts · 1 pointr/gaming

Ok, buy a couple retro genesis controllers off amazon. Download a genesis emulator for PC and download a road rash ROM. You should be able to configure the controllers with the emulators, all you gotta do now is connect it to your TV using an HDMI cable. Yes you’ll be playing on PC, but the experience should be virtually the same after you set it all up.

Thank you, I might give a try to the F510, but just watching the shape it reminds me of some bad habits I took with the PS2 ones, the ZD-V+ seems to be quite plasticky and there was someone whinning about dead triggers, I've also found the GameSir G3w (and a bunch of rebrands of it) wich apparently can be toggled by long pressing the home button, I wouldn't recomend the wireless version of these as they seem to have serious connection problems.

I have also found a bunch of crappy defective controllers on Amazon but I just don't want to waste my money on those.

Sorry for the long post, but the original text post I made got deleted by the automoderator and I was told to post this here. I'm looking for a controller for PC gaming. I would prefer for it to have both wired and wireless capabilities (since I sometimes game on a monitor and other times on a big TV, and in the former scenario I'd prefer the minimal input lag of hard wiring, while in the latter case I'd prefer to sit further away and not deal with the hassle of another long wire), but neither of these is a must. Either/or is fine if necessary. Problem is, though, that I'm extremely picky about my controllers. Here's all the shit I want, in descending order of importance:

u/klortle · 1 pointr/reddeadredemption

I'm not sure how big the price difference is between AUD and USD, but this controller is ~$32 new, ~$24 used, and I also found this odd thing which is ~$25 new and ~$20 used. However, I'd say getting the X is a better option lol

u/MemphisOsiris · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Yes. The solo version only, for now. It was a Kickstarter campaign. I say for now because the backers will obviously get their ones first, and the only reason people othere than backers can order now is because the factory only creates in batches. The people who ordered the single one didn't make up the full amount. This is excess stock basically

So solo version is a one handed version like the one in the pic OP posted. But you can also buy full 2 handed version later (it's what I'm waiting to buy). So you can play with the benefit of mechanical buttons, extra buttons ect.

An emulator's the cheapest and most convenient, minus the occasional game that gives trouble (N64 emulation still isn't perfected). And it may be tough to get a controller set up and feeling just like the original. I haven't played with the 3rd-party options, but you've got quality-focused ones like the Tribute 64 (basically a modern recreation of the Hori Pad Mini, one of the few classic 3rd-party controllers that was considered decent). And these controllers actually have decent reviews. It sounds like the quality control may be iffy...but they're cheap, at least.

People do sell a lot of actual N64s on Ebay. "Pricey" is relative. Bought separately, the console itself might be $50-ish (hopefully with expansion pak and cables), controllers might be $15 each, games from $5-$30 should cover most of the library. There are some fun listings like that as a bundle, where you might want to ask if it comes with the expansion pak (or most of the Perfect Dark game will be inaccessible...). $100 isn't a terrible deal for a starter bundle, even if you don't care for some of the games (you never know; maybe you'll be in an odd mood one day?) If you're looking for a $50 all-in set...they're out there, but you may be looking for a while. Or getting lucky at a garage sale, talking to some coworkers, etc. Around the $20-$25 price range for games, watch out for ones shipping from China, listed as "New", or stored in neat little plastic wrap baggies. Those are warning signs for counterfeit/fake cartridges. They'll work (usually), but they've got a bad track record for reliability.

Between Ebay, Amazon, Shopgoodwill, occasional good deals from GameStop, and a few games that I was able to salvage from my parents' house (my sister got the others), I've been building a collection over about the past 10 years. The games get expensive pretty quickly. As a midpoint between emulation and collecting carts, you might consider a flash cartridge like the EverDrive. It's pricey...but if you're buying more than 5-10 games (especially popular ones), the flash cart may well end up being cheaper.

u/tommii3 · 1 pointr/GenesisMini

When did you buy your Saturn controller? The first one I picked up, I immediately returned. I bought the USB Saturn controller at the same time as I did the 8-button blue USB Genesis controller. Neither was satisfactory compared against the original hardware. The buttons were too stiff, and the D-pads lacked the fulcrum that facilitates movement for firing hadokens in SFII.

However, Retro-Bit has two different Saturn controllers. The old version had the less-than-satisfactory D-pad (the "Model 1"), so Retro-Bit did a laudable thing—especially for a 3rd party peripheral manufacturer—and issued an updated controller (the "Model 2"). As an American, I'm a bit annoyed that they chose to name the revisions in that fashion, since in my mind the Model 1 and Model 2 name designations refer to the Western and Japanese Saturn controllers, respectively. Either way, I'm happy they revised the D-pad; now I just have to pick up a Retro-Bit Model 2 and test against my original Saturn controllers.

u/TypographySnob · 1 pointr/SoulCalibur

There's already a lot of replies, but having used this in SC and Tekken, I agree that it is pretty nice. Much better in SC than in Tekken though, as the dpad is pretty restrictive, making Korean back dashes and quick neutral inputs difficult. The face buttons are fine but the shoulder buttons feel flimsy. Overall very comfortable to hold.

I'm waiting for the PowerA Fusion fightpad because it looks to have a much better dpad. There's also the Sega Saturn pad which also has the better dpad. Definitely consider those instead if you want to use it for more than just SC.

Yup I have a wireless and wired currently. I've owned maybe 4 different ones from them (broke from abuse) and they're right around $20 on amazon

Not that I could find. I looked into this a few weeks back because I was trying to find the same thing: a physical controller that can fit in your pocket. I did find suction controller sticks for ipads/android tablets but the general consensus was that they're all just too large for a phone's screen anyway.

FWIW, I ended up buying the Wee telescopic controller and I love it. When both the controller and phone are in my pocket, they still stick out slightly more than I'd ideally like, but it is manageable and it's by far the best/most portable option I've found yet. I highly recommend it.

u/spiderskizzles · 1 pointr/EmulationOnPC

this one is this the most versatile I know of. But I would rather use a ps4 or an xbox one controller if I could only pick one.

u/Ihavenocomplaints · 1 pointr/nba

I've looked at this one a lot. I got two of these. One joystick failed quickly but the other one has lasted a bit longer.

As someone who has played on both Controller and K/M and mostly plays games on K/M, I have to say that for BotW a controller feels nicer to me.

If anyone was wondering I personally use a wireless Xbox 360 Controller and Receiver.

I would probably suggest an Xbox One controller though, considering the battery life on 360 Controllers is eight hours on 2800mAh rechargables. This means I have to cycle using four rechargeables, two on charge two in controller to avoid the expense of disposables.

That said, if it's cheaper for you to buy a 360 controller, receiver and rechargables, or you don't mind wired, do that instead, there's very little advantage otherwise.

Alright. This is gonna be a long comment so stick with me as you read it alright. Don't just scroll through it.

So based on your post, you're looking for a wireless controller with a good D-Pad similar to the ones you would find on a Nintendo Controller (Either the NES or SNES i'm assuming). If that is the case, you have two options. Both the options are based on the PS4 and Xbox One/Elite controllers respectively. With that being said, let me show you the controllers.

The first one is the GameSir G3s Bluetooth Controller. This controller is based on the PS4 controller, especially considering the triggers on the controllers based on what everyone says and my experience with the controller. This controller has built-in vibration feedback (spoiler alert: this function only works on PC and PS3). So this controller has a separate bracket for holding an average sized phone, turbo fire buttons, Bluetooth 4.0 as well as micro and mini USB connectivity for PC, PS3, and Android. It also comes with a wireless USB dongle as well (similar to the DJ Hero wireless connector or any wireless connector for a mouse and keyboard). This controller has a battery life of 18 hours as well.

The second option is the GameSir G4s Bluetooth Controller. Unlike the G3s, this controller is based on the Xbox One/Elite Controller as aforementioned earlier, especially considering the design of the controller itself. Also, the bracket is built inside the controller itself for the phone for less clutter. However, the clear and turbo buttons are placed inside where the bracket is located. If you look at some unboxing videos of it, you'll see what I mean. Another thing to note is that it has 10 hours of battery life instead of the G3s' 18 hour battery life. Other than that, it's the same thing as the G3s controller (Bluetooth 4.0, Wireless USB Dongle, Controller Vibrations, .etc).

There is a third option for your situation if you're on a budget, and that is the GameSir G3s WIRED Controller and the GameSir G3s WIRELESS Controller. Even though this is the cheapest option and is still compatible with Android, PC, and PS3, it doesn't come with a phone bracket. HOWEVER, I wouldn't get this because to order a phone bracket, you're gonna have to wait 2 weeks for a 8 to 10 dollar bracket for the controller if you're gonna buy one off Ebay because it ships from China. I don't know about shipping with the controller bracket off of Amazon, which costs 13 dollars, but I'm going to assume that it's going to take the same amount of time if you were to order it off of Ebay. With that being said, by the time you were to pay for the bracket with the Wired or USB Dongle Controller, you would've paid the same amount of money you would for the Bluetooth G3s Controller.

Too Fucking Long; Didn't Fucking Read: Either get the GameSir G3s Bluetooth Controller or the GameSir G4s Bluetooth Controller

>. Still the same button shapes and Dpad shapes as OEM, but maybe like a hair's difference on the Dpad ball or something.

So.. of these two

https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=8bitdo%2Bsf30&qid=1554184991&s=gateway&sr=8-3&th=1

Which do you think I should get?
For some reason, the old version - which I think would be of higher demand - is cheaper than the new version.

I feel dirty playing NES or SNES games on it but it gets the job done. Also the d-pad isn't as good as the original Genesis controller.

Thanks to all that have responded to my query! :)

Another late entry into the contest for quality and bang-for-the-buck, with Linux Steam compatibility, is the 'GameSir G3w Wired PC Game Controller' ($28 CDN), which adds compatibility (and a nice bracket) for also playing Android games:

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B019H4DSI0/?coliid=I4UZK5P5GNI18&colid=NITK2G295TE9&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

This controller was mentioned in another thread in this same Linux gaming forum, and even though I find very little info on Google saying so, those that do claim good Linux compatibility. Thoughts?

What I also find interesting is how relatively unclear the 'winners' are for Linux-compatible gaming controllers -- both on Reddit, and on Google in general i.e. everyone seems to have their favorites. Rather than worry about this uncertainty, maybe I should just interpret this as meaning that I will be happy no matter what I pick -- as long as I stay away from knock-offs and fakes, right?

For me, there is some appeal to the simplicity/dependability of a low-end wired device (Xbox 360, Logitech F310, GameSir G3w), but another part of me suggests doubling my budget ($60 CDN instead of $30 CDN) and get something wireless, in order to future-proof my purchase (Logitech F710, Xbox One) or even with with touchpads and/or gyros the same price (DS4, Steam Controller). Sigh...

This is a pretty good one. I've used the elite and the razer and i think the razer is better for fighting games. I like the dpad better as well.

No you're not an idiot. We all make mistakes like that. ;)

I have one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004JU0JSA

Wireless but it came with a wireless receiver. You can buy the receivers separately. As long as you get this one (made by Microsoft) you should be able to use your existing X-Box controller with your PC without problems. ;)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074NWW8JS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I've been using this ever since I ditched my xbone controller due to it DCing constantly. the wifi adapter I had was kinda bad.

Honestly the orbweaver iskinda meh.

The Razer controller (albeit 150$) is also a valid option as it has an additional 6 buttons that can be set as modifiers, which severely opens up how easy a controller can be to use.

I find that the Razer or the xbox elite controller are fine even for semi high level content. There's not all that much that they restrict you from, you can move, look, turn, cycle through targets and go into menus fine. then you have at least 40+ keybinds available for abilities and bound items.

u/groovy95 · -1 pointsr/SteamController

Well, this is the Steam controller sub and it's what I had handy. Steam supports the Xbox and PS4 controllers the same way, as well as any controller with generic controller inputs I think. I might actually try out one of these with Steam handling the controller config: https://www.amazon.com/GRIFTA-SOLO-GRIFTA-ANDO1LHKS-Grifta-Gamepad/dp/B01N6TZ3XG/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?keywords=grifta+solo&qid=1549651162&sr=8-1-fkmrnull

The Steam controller has the touchpad for a Dpad that can do radial menus and such, which maybe makes it better suited to games with more inputs.

I actually do have a Logitech G13 as well, but never much liked it. The joystick isn't great and the whole point, at least for me, is to get away from fumbling keyboard keys, and that thing still has a bunch of keys. The thing that makes controllers fast and reliable is that you really only have 2 fingers (thumbs) that do multiple things, and those things are laid out in a way that's easy to feel and navigate quickly.

A big ol' block of keys just isn't very precise unless you want to dump a ton of time into building up muscle memory.
