Edit: I badly screwed up the title. It should read, "Upgrading from Composite to S-Video", not "Component". Component would only be available on this system with an RGB mod, and then an HD Retrovision SNES Component cable.

I have a 2009-era Sharp TV with one S-Video input, so I decided to try it. Overall, I'd say it was worth $8. I wouldn't say that it's immediately noticeable, but when you look closely, you can definitely see sharper lines around big color changes. I can also see each pixel more clearly, and you can see the Nintendo 64's anti-aliasing and horizontal blur at work.

Here's what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LE3EAIK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

I’m not a normal poster on this sub so hopefully I formatted this properly. I was browsing for a couple retro styled wireless controllers so my girlfriend and I could play some of the Classic games that come with Nintendo Online. This one was exactly what I had in mind and I noticed that it’s on a pretty good sale so I thought I would share.

This is an NES style (no analog sticks) Bluetooth controller with shoulder buttons, a home button, and 2 extra turbo face buttons. It connects wirelessly with the Switch without an adapter. It works with the Switch Online Classic games and it shows up as a normal controller so you can also use it with regular switch games that don’t require analog sticks or motion controls.

It can also connect to the NES/SNES Classics wirelessly if you use the Bluetooth version of the 8bitdo Retro Reciver.

I have asked a few random questions, but none have been chosen.

I really want to hear Jeff's opinion about the upcoming $50 Super Nintendo game Unholy Night: The Darkness Hunter.

Edit: Jeff finally answered one of mine! Yay!

u/WrestlingWoo · 14 pointsr/snes

so...........i would emulate first. Get a USB SNEScontroller and try some games.

If you love it and can't get enough I'd look into getting original hardware. But if you don't have that need to play it all on original hardware on a CRT TV then emulation is a good place to start.

Top right is standard OEM composite cable, bottom right is nice new s-video cable w/out the composite video sitting unterminated from Amazon @ http://amzn.to/29Fx78x for only $7.50! Compatible with SNES, N64 and GCN! Honestly got a bigger jump in quality than I expected... Ordering more of these now!

u/Sirotaca · 11 pointsr/speedrun

GameCube and Game Boy Player is the standard setup. The startup disc for the Game Boy Player can be a bit pricey these days, but you can softmod the GameCube and use the free Game Boy Interface software as an alternative.

From there, you can get an HDMI adapter and HDMI capture card (lots of those to choose from). Or if you need to save some money, a good S-Video capture device like the IO Data GV-USB2, an S-Video splitter, and a GameCube S-Video cable will still get you a pretty decent-looking capture. Either way, set it up in OBS and you're good to go.

I'd suggest also getting an SNES controller adapter. I find it way nicer than using the GBA as a controller. There's also one for Wii Classic Controllers if you prefer.

On Amazon, it is a newer SNES game made in 2017, seems the cartridge is designed to work on the Super Famicom as well.

You should get svideo instead! But eBay and Amazon work well.

There are a few that come to mind when it comes to soft shutdown cases. Most, if not all, cases in this list require the installation of a script, which can be done through the Raspbian terminal (accessed by quitting EmulationStation, either by pressing F4 or by pressing START while in ES and selecting the bottom menu item, then Quit EmulationStation). You could also access the terminal through SSH using PuTTY.

So, I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to how I want my stuff to look.

The Rasptendo and the Nespi cases both enclose the pi completely, and have the usb ports at the front which makes it look like controller ports.

https://www.amazon.com/Functional-POWER-Button-Retroflag-Rasberry/dp/B073ZC4TZY

Rasptendo:

https://www.amazon.com/Rasptendo-Retro-Gaming-Case-Raspberry/dp/B076F7VDR2

Both of them have the working power and reset buttons as well, though the rasptendo gives you the option to make it a safe shutdown for both the power and reset switches. (Reset's optional but needs soldering to do safe shutdown, power button doesn't need any soldering.)

There's a third option now

https://www.amazon.com/Raspberry-facing-Functional-Cooling-BassTop/dp/B0794V4HRQ/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1518188210&sr=8-14&keywords=snes+raspberry+pi

The nice part about these cases is that they SHOULD be able to support other SBC's that are the same shape as the pi as long as the ports are aligned correctly. (Like the tinkerboard).

This cable is a true s-video cable and it works great, much better than composite if your TV supports it.

https://www.amazon.com/Gam3Gear-Nintendo-Gamecube-Video-Cable-Super/dp/B00LE3EAIK

Alternatively Gamecube games look perfect on a Wii over component too, the cable and console are both available for cheap. This doesn't resolve for Gameboy Player unfortunately, wish we had a better solution for that.

u/runitover · 5 pointsr/RetroPie

This controller is junk but I believe it is the cheapest way to get a USB adapter. It worked for me via Windows Retroarch so I would imagine it would work for retropie as well.

Not every third party controller is a Mad Catz. I was thinking of the AsciiPad.

they sell these on amazon, btw.

this model is the 2.4ghz wireless usb one, though. no bluetooth support, and only works with the controller port on the nes/snes classic.

there are bluetooth models - these new ones come with a bluetooth receiver that plugs into the snes.

Yikes. That cart is in shambles. It's still salvageable but wow, what a mess.

Read up on cleaning contact pins here. Finally based on the first picture, I'd clean the console as well.

Edit: if 90% alcohol and swabs don't fix the issue, I advising purchasing some Mr Clean Magic Erasers and buff out the tarnish and any remaining rust from the contacts. Invest in the security screw bits so you can get into your console and games.

u/bubstance · 3 pointsr/Gamecube

Then ignore GCVideo unless you feel like spending the cash for a new 'Cube.

Any old RCA>HDMI box is going to get you to about the same place and I'm going to assume that your TV doesn't support S-Video.

Anything like this should get you started if you just want to play:

Welcome to the wonderful world of retro gaming in 2018.
Hopefully you have a setting for it like mentioned, if not, your tv just doesn't like that resolution. Solution is different tv, modded console, or upscaler. They do make cheap ones, but they are usually not great and you get what you pay for. If you find a Tv that still supports Svideo that's the best cheap option for n64. i've actually had good experience with [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LE3EAIK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) cable.
Also remember that a lot of the cheap composite to hdmi "upscalers" don't actually upscale at all. They just convert the composite line to hdmi, and still send the same signal. So you get the same problem. Also some HDMI inputs just don't like 240 or even 480i at all. I ran into this thinking a cheap $10 SD to HDMI adapter would solve a similar problem for my genesis. Nope, not a true upscaler.

u/LTXayl · 3 pointsr/ffxiv

Can't give you the best, but I can suggest maybe using the Wii U Pro Controller if you like how those feel. You'd have to buy an additional dongle to make it work though so I wouldn't say its the most cost effective solution.

The PS4 is a great alternative. If you can't be bothered with a bluetooth connection (Windows 7 has some compatibility issues with the bluetooth protocol used in the ps4 controller. Something to do with legacy issues I'm assuming) just hook it up with a micro usb and use DS4Windows. Free software, and works fantastic for any other games.

u/guspaz · 3 pointsr/retrogaming

I bought the NES30 Pro and I love it. To use it on your SNES Classic I believe you'll need this dongle.

There is also a controller that looks more like the SNES gamepad if that's what you're after.

u/GAGMR7 · 3 pointsr/wiiu

You could get an 8bitdo controller & wireless receiver. It would be cheaper than getting a classic or classic pro controller. Dunno how good they are tho.

It can have them. I bought a third party turbo controller when I was like 13 just so I could yank the colored buttons out of it and put them in a normal controller.

Actually this was the very same controller I cannibalized the buttons from.

u/76mickd · 2 pointsr/snes
u/yepyoubet · 2 pointsr/miniSNES

I'm worried that the battery compartment on the back will make the controller uncomfortable to hold. The shifted buttons might also feel weird to someone used to the standard controller. A wireless version of this would be perfect.

u/newtype06 · 2 pointsr/gaming

I don't think you understand. It's a piece of hardware, such as the Retrobit. It's legal to make a piece of hardware that acts as an intermediary, such as an adapter, or that reads the games itself. It's legal to manufacture adapters and hardware, just not the games themselves and rom downloads have questionable legal issues.

Here's another example. This allows the SNES to play Genesis games.
Or this for PC which lets you read them on your computer. Both are absolutely legal.

u/NullOfUndefined · 2 pointsr/retrogaming

It’s a bit pricy but you could use this: Retro-Bit SNES - Super UFO Pro 8 Game Saves & Backup Cartridge Adapter (UFO) - Super NES https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007O3MWVG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_mNu8Cb97YNQXV

u/HappierShibe · 2 pointsr/snes

I can post a list of options here, I use them to test rom images before I load them to my repro carts:

Super UFO 8 (30-50 USD) :
Cheap, and basic, get the job done. Works with most clones. Uses software from about a million years ago; no, I'm not joking. It runs the same software that was on the old late 90's floppy readers updated to work with more modern hardware.
You have to be careful with savegames, there are some extra steps involved. Does not support ANY games that require specialized chips. Also, it smells funny (it has a strange chemical odor that never completely goes away). Theres a ton of these out there under a dozen or so different names, but if they are in this price range this is probably what your getting.
http://www.amazon.com/Saves-Backup-Cartridge-Adapter-Nintendo-Super/dp/B007O3MWVG/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1422038684&sr=1-1

Super everdrive (~150 USD):
Good interface and all the basic functionality is there and it works pretty much how you would expect. Works with some clones, but its a bit of a crapshoot. CAN support DSP-1 games if you have a dsp-1 chip installed on it (extra cost but worth it). Supply on these runs out sometimes, then they cost more for a bit. Doesn't smell funny.
http://www.stoneagegamer.com/super-everdrive-deluxe-na.html

SD2SNES (200-300 USD):
Creme-de-la-creme, all the basic functionality is there, and it has some nice bells and whistles. Solid interface. DOES NOT WORK RELIABLY WITH CLONES! USE A GENUINE SNES! Supports pretty much every special chip except for the SuperFX. Pricy, occasionally in short supply but generally you can get ahold of them without TOO much trouble. Doesn't smell funny.
http://www.stoneagegamer.com/sd2snes.html

I have or have worked with all 3 of these. feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

u/dodland · 2 pointsr/snes

People might say this is a janky way to do it, but I successfully replaced the battery in a Final Fantasy III cart with NO SOLDERING. I just used electrical tape. Worked fine. Just wrap it up really tight..

edit: you need a screwdriver bit to open the case, and these batteries

u/coldbeercoldbeer · 2 pointsr/gadgets

You'll also want some cheap paper towels and one of these https://www.amazon.com/Security-Screwdriver-Super-Nintendo-Cartridges-Systems/dp/B009I6FWOQ

Some people use those white click erasers for stubborn spots and some people just use alcohol and q-tips without taking anything apart. Keep in mind any abrasive you use is wearing down the electrical contacts. I am most comfortable with paper towels and CRC because I feel it's the cleanest clean while being gentle.

u/alexh86 · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

I have these, I'm not sure why they're listed at $20 bucks now since I bought them for $8 last year. I got these because I have a universal screwdriver handle that I thought they would fit into. Of course, they don't so I have to grab the end with pliers sometimes when I'm getting a screw in or out. They're high-quality and work fine. If I was buying again today, I'd probably take a chance on these. They're cheap and have an integrated handle.

u/KugelKurt · 2 pointsr/Metroid

There are cartridges similar to the Super Game Boy but for GBA games (obviously not licensed by Nintendo).

u/bentika · 2 pointsr/crtgaming

I have 2 of the Nintendo to scart cables off amazon for like 6/7 dollars and they're shielded well. No buzz on the audio, and I'm still amazed everytime I see the rgb out of a snes mini. my model 1 died so I upgraded and the image is substantially sharper and more vibrant with the mini. Also if you know how to solder you can find the rgb amp and board for like 5 dollars. Seriously it cost me 10 bucks to rgb mod my n64 and snes mini. Knowing how to solder is awesome mannn

Always look for ones with just S-Video and no yellow composite. Some can be wired bad. But it's not always true

u/Dochartaigh · 2 pointsr/crtgaming

There's a S-Video input right on the back of that monitor. One side plugs directly into your console, the other into the monitor itself - super simple:

PS1/PS2/PS3 (official Sony brand and excellent quality, FYI)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000N5JS5A/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

SNES:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LE3EAIK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For NES, you'll also want to get a pack of these BNC to RCA connectors to use a regular RCA Composite cable off your NES: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005B4O4GG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I should add that I forgot to mention that Sega Genesis needs to be modded for S-Video - if your friend can help you mod the monitor for RGB it'll be a breeze for him (it's soldering like 5 single wires and a couple resistors - pretty darn easy). ---OR at that point, if you are actually modding the monitor for RGB, you'll probably forget about the S-Video and just use a regular SCART RGB cable or whatnot.

Also, if it makes your choice easier, S-Video really is excellent quality. You really have to see both side-by-side to notice any difference compared to RGB (especially if you're still new to all this - it's really just the finer smaller differences you can notice between the two connection types).

u/hizzlekizzle · 2 pointsr/retrogaming

As far as newly manufactured pads go, the CirKa SNES pads are actually pretty good, but they cost about $10 each, which is getting close to the original pads' price, and the original pads are still better. The Tomee pads are cheaper (I got a pair for $6) but they're just plain awful and you should probably steer clear unless you want some beaters for your friends/guests to abuse.

I recommend picking up an old ASCII Pad, which is a little more expensive than a standard controller but includes turbo and slow motion, for your own use.

For the cables, I agree with the other sentiments to just use whatever works with your TV in the short term and don't worry about it unless/until you're ready to drop some change on a nice CRT and/or upscaler. If your current TV has an svideo port, it's worth using it instead of composite in most cases, but you have to watch out because some of the cheaper cables just run the same composite signal through an svideo jack, so you don't get any image improvement.

u/Dweezicus · 2 pointsr/snes

I use the 8bitdo retro receiver which I sync with a Wii remote, and then I plug the snes classic controller into the Wii remote. Works like a charm, and it allows me to play “wireless”:

Just ran into this conundrum myself. Bought a SNES Classic and wanted to get a wireless controller for it: This one to be exact. Unfortunately it was lag-tacular, (probably a 1/4 second delay, but enough to be irritating on platformers like MegaMan X and Super Metroid).

Returned it, and picked up this and this instead. The difference is night and day, and the controls are super snappy and responsive. Picked up the regular SNES adapter version as well and it works like a charm too.

u/sekazi · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

You just need to buy the NES Adapter or SNES Adapter.

u/Bhartrhari · 2 pointsr/miniSNES

Sorta -- 8bitdo makes a wireless SNES adapter. It's compatible with wiimotes which are compatible with the SNES classic controller.

I'm not aware of anyone testing this out yet, but in theory you should be able to plug a SNES classic controller into a Wiimote, pair it with the 8bitdo adapter, and use it with your original SNES console.

I don't expect it to ever be possible to directly plug a SNES classic controller into a SNES console; the voltages used by the original SNES controllers and the SNES classic controllers differ.

u/SupremeLeaderSnoke · 2 pointsr/gaming

Hyperkin recently made a laser snes mouse for the snes and I picked one up. Sadly it's not as good as you would think for drawing (it works but it's a bit to osensative even when you adjust the in game mouse speed) but it makes you a god at fly swatting!

You have to "install" a controller receiver. But it just plugs on the controller port. Nothing internal or strange. Plug, sync, and play.

I use the Switch Pro Controller with an 8bitdo retro receiver but it's also compatible with PS3, PS4, Wii remotes, Wii U pro controller and every 8bitdo controller. Works great!
You can update the receiver's firmware via USB, and all the buttons work as intended. You can even use Select+down to go to the menu.

Edit: Page says Pre order, but it's been available for months and it0s only 1299 on Amazon.

u/lizard-socks · 2 pointsr/wiiu

Do you have a Wii Classic Controller? That'll work with some of the Wii U games (usually the ones that support multiplayer) and it'll work on Nintendont out of the box.

There's also these adapters that should let a wireless PS3 controller act as a Wii Classic Controller: https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-Retro-Receiver-Classic-Bluetooth-nintendo/dp/B076B995TL

Here is the one I've used. Also, the one made for NES/SNES Classics is several dollars cheaper and I'm pretty sure that they can be used with a Pi by plugging it in with the provided micro USB to USB cable as I've seen others say it works. I actually own one of the SNES Classic retro receivers, so I can try it out later when I get a chance to confirm.

This is my favorite set up to give friends. Looks good and mostly foolproof hardware wise!

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B

Rasptendo SNES Case (IMO, connect the power button as intended, but either solder the reset button as per the method mentioned in there or don't connect it at all. This way there's no way for the user to do a non-safe shutdown of the OS)

Dual fan heatsink

Bluetooth adapter (more reliable than built-in bluetooth, change /boot/config.txt to disable onboard Bluetooth)

PS3 SIXAXIS Controller (Dualshock 3's work too, but I like the legit OEM ones, and those are hard to find. The convincing bootlegs/fakes are usually impossible to tell apart from legit ones when ordering online. That's why I look for used SIXAXIS controllers - no bootlegs. Also, I use PS3 controllers because pairing can be done or re-done entirely by connecting up mini-USB cables. No menus necessary once you set it up the first time!)

Sandisk 64GB MicroSD

Canakit PSU

HDMI cable, Mini-USB cable.

-----

For a more serious, less user-friendly but more overclockable setup, ditch the case/heatsink above and go with these instead:

Some kind of heatsink, I'm using one from the Kintaro case but I suspect the cheap stick-on heatsinks are probably fine too

this open-air case (throw out the fan as it's way too loud... I'm sure other open-air cases will work but I like that this one has the 40mm setup for the below fan and the little grille to prevent curious fingers from getting in there at least)

this Noctua 40mm 5v fan (expensive, but quiet and provides solid cooling)

One time, when I was like 9, I had this badass super nintendo controller that you could set all the buttons to auto-mash at certin intervals, this is it. I loved that controler. It wasn't handy for all games, but like platform shooters and stuff, where you needed to continually mash the same button over and over, it was awesome. Also for swimming in Mario Land. Anyways, I used it for everything. I got used to the size of it in my hands and it felt right to just use it in default mode, regardless if I was making use of the auto-mash functions. So, one day, I was being my usual hermity self and hanging out in my parents room playing Donkey Kong Country, because my brother wanted to watch Oprah in the living room for some reason; and I came up on this level that was impossible to pass. I forget which it was, but something is screaming "mine carts" at me in my head. I spent like 5 hours trying to pass this shit. Failed every time, and after the last time, i took my awesome asciipad and launched it at the wall while yelling the F word. It hit the wall and went into exactly 1 million pieces. We stayed in that house for like 3 more years after that, and every time I vacuumed, I found a new little piece of that controller.

Also, I got in so much trouble for throwing a tantrum and swearing.

I always thought it'd be cool to try a Mother trilogy cart similar to this, using a Super Retro Advance adapter and a [Retroport NES to SNES adapter] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007A57C7W/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3/176-6720898-4167452?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_r=11Z2FFDQN5Z8MJZHGQPY&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=1944687742&pf_rd_i=B00EXPCTQQ) and maybe some kind of hardware switch to switch between the three games. But it seems like a huge project.

Well done on this. It turned out well. Though there are only so many Super Game Boys in the world.

u/lisabadcat · 1 pointr/retrogaming

You can get something like this. It takes SD cards and it can connect to a PC via USB. There may be better choices than this one, I just did a quick search. They won't work with any games that use the SuperFX chip though.

u/Mechageo · 1 pointr/snes

This thing'll do the trick, too.

u/jordan177606 · 1 pointr/explainlikeimfive

You should look into a battery backup system like this for the SNES and a DexDrive with a Gameshark following this guide for the N64

u/brendanmint · 1 pointr/RetroPie

That is the petrockblog Control Block, it handles power and control port input.

Would be happy to:

Super Famicom w/controller $37 [Ebay]

Raspberry Pi 3 $35 [Amazon]

Control Block $35 [PetRockBlog]

100pc Jumper Wire FtF $8 [Amazon]

Screw bits to open the console $5 [Amazon]

Panel Mounted USB Cable $4 [AdaFruit]

Panel Mounted USB Micro Cable $5 [AdaFruit]

I replaced the LED with one I had lying around, I did end up buying a soldering iron and cable strippers to use for this as well, just cheap ones off Amazon.

I think that covers everything.

u/RebootRevival · 1 pointr/SEGAGENESIS

As far as I know, most of the sega carts use the same bit as Nintendo. Just look for a Nintendo Bit set. This is what I have. I think the 3.8mm is for the carts and the 4.5 is for the console. The others use a standard Torx bit. I don't remember if its T-8 or T-10. Just a get a set of Torx Bits, maybe even a Security Torx Set. Those are the ones with the pin in the center. But they work on ones that arent security screws.

u/lashek · 1 pointr/consolerepair

This depends on the cartridge. Older 5-screw games, you can use a standard screwdriver. Otherwise you need a 3.8mm socket gamebit.

I'd recommend getting both the 3.8mm and 4.5mm gamebit:

https://www.amazon.com/Security-Screwdriver-Length-Nintendo-Cartridges-Systems/dp/B009I6FWOQ/

u/ReFractured_Bones · 1 pointr/n64

All you need is the correct bit to remove the N64 screws. Once you get the top off of the N64 you can just press up on the plastic from the bottom to force it out. Then just clean it up.

http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-GameBoy-Virtual-Genesis-Master-TurboGrafx/dp/B009I6FWOQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381612871&sr=8-1&keywords=4.5mm+bit+gamebit

These should do the job. I also have the 3.8 for games so I can get to the contacts easily and clean them thoroughly.

u/rawesome32 · 1 pointr/GameSale

I don't have a guide but it only requires unscrewing things. Watch this video from the start until about 9:30 mark. Video The metal tray below the disc drive unscrews too.

Unfortunately the closest you could come to getting a cart like what you're asking for would be to jury-rig an adapter like: https://www.amazon.com/Retro-Bit-Super-Retro-Advance-Adapter-nintendo/dp/B00EXPCTQQ/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 ... with a Minish Cap board inside a SNES cart... BUT ... unlike a Super Gameboy conversion of Link's Awakening which works great like I just described (I own one myself!), that adapter does NOT provide video/audio out to the SNES... so it'd be a frankenstein looking abomination. :P

u/cronotose · 1 pointr/crtgaming

Well first off, get yourself at least some S-video cables straight away. Some of them have some quality issues, I've had no significant interference problems with this one.

https://www.amazon.com/Gam3Gear-Nintendo-Gamecube-Video-Cable-Super/dp/B00LE3EAIK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1519447659&sr=8-1&keywords=nintendo+s-video&dpID=511QkWlFQdL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

It's not the best, but it is dirt cheap and it doesn't have a normal composite line to bleed over into your s-video feed.

I don't know this set in particular, but it looks like a pretty decent pick up as far as free consumer sets go. According to my google, it has component, so if you really want to get cheeky, you can pick up an rgb to component converter and set up a snes or genesis with component.

u/OdinRage02 · 1 pointr/retrogaming

Here is the switcher that I use. My tv has s video input so it works great because I can use systems that output s video or composite with this one. Here is an s video cable that would work for both your SNES and your N64. Here is a composite cable that would work with your model 1 Sega Genesis, and Here would be am example of composite cables that would work with you NES.

As for the surge protector, here is the one I use and I really like it because it can hold a lot of the big power bricks that these older consoles like to use. Anyway hope that helped point you in the right direction. Of course it is a little bit of an investment, but overall I bet you will be much happier with a set up like this. I know personally I could never go back to constantly physically switching consoles out when I want to play them, this makes it so much easier to enjoy all my consoles with minimal effort. Good luck on your set up!

u/Voxic120 · 1 pointr/CloneHero

I unintentionally found a way to use my two wireless wii guitars with USB just today.

I bought this SNES controller at a nearby mall. It's for the SNES Mini but comes with a USB adapter for PC. The adapter so happens to be perfectly compatible with the Les Paul. It works flawlessly. Input lag is the same as my Xplorer, and it worked first try. The only thing I needed was a USB extension.

20$ for a semi-crap SNES controller and an adapter for most Wii controllers. I'm considering buying another one.

u/adrianamp · 1 pointr/CloneHero

I had a wiitar and i found this cheaper alternative for the raphnet adapter that has worked fine for me. it’s a $15 SNES usb remote that comes with the dongle you need for wiitar to usb. it has worked fine for me. it is short though so you would need a usb extension cord thing.

As others have stated, the NES Classic and SNES Classic consoles are for sale at pretty much every Walmart, Best Buy, etc. You can even use the free Hakchi program to put whatever games you want on them when you tire of the games that come on them but the NES Classic comes with all 3 Mario games released for the NES console and the SNES Classic comes with Super Mario World on it.

The NES Classic comes with 1 controller, SNES Classic comes with 2. You can purchase extension cables (that come in packs of 2) for like $10 that fit both consoles as the controllers for both are interchangeable. For $13 you can buy a bluetooth receiver to plug into the consoles (HERE) and use completely wireless 3rd party controllers or even PS4 controllers to play the systems instead of the wired controllers that come with them.

That is your best option. Brand new hardware, HDMI to hook to your new 4K tv. NES Classic has the 1 Mario game you want, 2 more you'll play later, 27 non-Mario games and the ability to add the entire NES library to it if you wish. Ditto for the SNES Classic when you want to play Super Mario World except you can't put all the games on the console at one time when you tire of the 20 games that come on the system due to the games being larger. You can only put a few hundred at a time. I keep 80 on mine with the roms for every single SNES game made saved on my computer so I can change them out at will because I like keeping all my games on the main menu screen, no folders.

u/replicaJunction · 1 pointr/miniSNESmods

I use the 8bitdo retro receiver with an SN30 Pro. I don't notice any obvious lag or interference issues, but I'm not a speed runner or high-performance gamer. Battery life is okay - usually lasts about 4-8 hours, though I've never tried just pushing the controller till it died.

In hindsight, I wish I'd gone with the regular SN30. The extra niceties of the Pro model are okay, but they mess with the grip a bit since the controller is larger, and I find that I prefer other controllers for playing modern games on other consoles or PC. I got the SN30 Pro for nostalgia, so I wish I'd gone all the way and gotten a traditional one.

u/Xapisity · 1 pointr/miniSNESmods

Properly cleaning a game cartridge is very easy. With only 2 special tools 3.8mm & 4.5mm Security Bits you can open up any old game cartridge.

After opening the cartridge, carefully remove the circuit board and hold it only by the edges, and then using a regular pencil eraser (a soft one) buff the contacts to a nice gold shine. Clear the eraser debris away with a dry cloth / can of compressed air. Put the cartridge back together.

Games cleaned in this way, when used in a game system with good internal pin connectors, will allow you to insert the game, press power once, and play to your heart's content. No more flashing screens, removing/blowing in cartridge or other annoying tricks required.

There is technically nothing stopping anyone from making a new SNES game in the future. Unholy Night was released this year in July. Now, Star Fox 2 is the last officially licensed SNES title to ever come out as I don't think Nintendo has a process for licensing new SNES titles anymore and this squeaks by with a technicality.

Really, I'm way over reacting? How many times has sf2 been released (and people think Skyrim is bad) it's on fucking every system from snes to ps3, its on arcade, its in hd, its on the fucking switch for God sakes. Then they have the balls to the release it AGAIN at a rediculous price point in a red cart and call it limited? That's some bullshit and if you don't think so then buy away. And just for the hell of it, here is an example:

...of a BRAND NEW fighting game released for the SNES...it is on a cart and plays on original hardware it has a box and a manual and it's full of New/original content. Now, I know what you're thinking, "wow this must cost hundreds I mean that rerelease of sf2 that I own 6 copies of already is a steal at 125$!" Nope, at release it was 49.99 like a regular ass game.End rant That being said, Street Fighter 2 is a fantastic game which I own multiple copies of on multiple platforms and play fairly regularly but this collectors edition doesn't sit right with me they're beating a dead horse at this point imo.
