Or for a MUCH cheaper option without investing in an expensive Bluetooth speaker: use a $30 Bluetooth receiver that can connect to 3.5mm speakers. Computer speakers with subwoofer + a Belkin Bluetooth receiver = under $100 awesome wireless speakers. (just not super portable)

Here's the receiver that I've used for 4+ years now. This thing is the most useful music gadget that I've ever had. And it uses your phone/tablet sound so it doesn't just work with Spotify, but with any music service.

The cheap way - Bluetooth > FM transmitter off of Amazon. Works well particularly in more rural areas where there are more open channels. https://www.amazon.com/GOgroove-FlexSMART-Transmitter-Multipoint-Microphone/dp/B003PPGOC0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1523503332&sr=8-3&keywords=flexsmart

The expensive way - the module that connects directly to your RL's radio, this will have better quality audio: https://www.amazon.com/USA-BT45-ACU-Bluetooth-Select-2005-2009/dp/B00NUDEIWA

I'm just annoyed about this because if my headphone jack disappears, I won't be able to use [this bad boy] (https://www.amazon.com/BESDATA-Universal-Cassette-Player-Adapter/dp/B00JAY397S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473869244&sr=8-1&keywords=aux+to+tape+deck) in my car anymore, which doesn't have an aux jack

This is what I’m getting for Christmas, I hear nothing but good things about it. And it allows you to use the steering wheel controls in addition to displaying the song title on the Nav screen and the display that the AC settings and time are on. You just loose XM1 after hooking it up. Which for me is no big deal since I use Apple Music instead of XM anyway.

This is what I have no and it works great. I’m only getting the new one because I had an aftermarket head unit in my accord and I missing having steering wheel controls.

Edit: Correct Link for Nav

u/GeoDim ¡ 4 pointsr/mildlyinfuriating

This is what you want. I used this for several months before I got a car with Bluetooth stereo. This is great because of its simplicity... it’s literally just a Bluetooth adapter for your aux port. No extra wires, speakers, mics, etc. There are other ones on Amazon that are battery powered. This is a pain, because you want it to automatically connect when the car is powered on; the ones with batteries don’t shut off, so you have to manually connect to them from your iPhone.

There are some one-star reviews all questioning its durability, but I had no issues whatsoever.

Assuming that by "Bluetooth FM transmitters," you mean you wanted to stream music from your phone over your car speakers... this is what you should have gotten.

That handy device is the version for YOUR car, I have the same type but different plugs for my 2006 TL and it plugs into the XM transmitter in the trunk. Very easy install, easy to pair with my phone, and it allows "XM1" to be my phone's audio. The audio from my phone (Amazon Music, Google Maps, Waze, etc) all sound crystal clear and my steering wheel controls even work to change songs.

Expensive lesson, but yeah I suggest switching it back and sell what you initially bought.

u/fudsak ¡ 3 pointsr/Chromecast

Get a bluetooth adapter (something like this) for your receiver and connect your tablet audio to that instead of the CCA.

u/bogglingsnog ¡ 3 pointsr/teslamotors

unfortunately Bluetooth can't really do it yet. You need about ~3500kb/s to play lossless 24/96 without compression, but AptX is about 576kb/s. The new LDAC (Sony proprietary) codec can do 990kb/s and claims it can stream 24/96 but I have yet to be shown how it is able to compress the data threefold.

But you can get pretty darn good sound with an AptX compatible module like this one. I think most car stereos would become the limiting factor in audio quality when using a modern Bluetooth codec, assuming it's set up correctly and the connection is clear. It offers well over the highest Mp3 bitrate which means unless you are listening to some really complex music with a huge dynamic range you'll probably be fine in most cases.

u/mattjewell15 ¡ 3 pointsr/iphone
u/AFluffyMobius ¡ 3 pointsr/Lexus

Regarding Bluetooth, do you mind aftermarket? It doesnt change the look of anything and you just plug something into the back of the stereo and you get Bluetooth/Aux etc. with the steering controls and track names on the dash display.

u/Milk_Shots ¡ 3 pointsr/Acura

Edit: you'll want to configure it in a manner that the USB is accessible. I am probably going to have mine installed behind one of the tray areas under the cassette player.

Edit 2: mine has Nav and this is compatible. Also, google and call local car audio places: they too have products. Just tell them your year, make, and model. Good luck man.

Bluetooth audio from ATV to a [Bluetooth audio receiver with headphone jack/audio out](Belkin SongStream Bluetooth Wireless Music Receiver for iPhone/iPod touch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IL7BWGA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_s0AKAbK6YHJ1A), a headphone splitter, and two pairs of wired headphones.

…and the receiver I linked is just the one I have. There are cheaper ones, but I got sick of looking for one with an external power supply and audio out. A lot of them are battery powered and are made to plug into a car aux port—that’s not what you want.

Hi there, I have an 04 with nav Bluetooth and jbl. No back up camera (I assumed it had one). Turns out as far as I can tell the 04 sold in America does not have a backup cam, just the Japanese version. I do want to warn you that the Bluetooth is for calls only (no music streaming) and it's horrible. I ended up buying one of these and using the tape deck. It's a bit lame but it works. One day I will upgrade the radio once there is a good CarPlay compatible aftermarket option

u/happy-cig ¡ 2 pointsr/personalfinance

Yah good job for doing your own maintenance! You can do a couple things to upgrade it into the 21st century as in add a Bluetooth receiver.

The 4th gen JBL bluetooth system will not stream.
Get one of these.

I've got an 07 limited with the JBL Synthesis system. That receiver is plug-n-play and uses the Satellite input for streaming. I've been using mine for almost a year now with no issues AND it's good for handsfree calls.

I cannot have a higher recommendation for it, and it's easily in my favorite mod I've done to the truck.

ETA: The AUX input in these vehicles sucks. Very distorted, low quality, and hums if you charge your phone via any 12v output at the same time.

No that won't work - it doesn't have the correct plug on the end. You need one with more stalk... Sorry I don't know the term. These are fine for worldwide use.

This is what you want.

Not sure how well the headphones will clamp if you are running at the gym but weights etc should be fine with this.

You have an aux port and usb power plug inside the armrest right?

One of these bluetooth>aux adapter would be perfect.

I use it in my 2006 Mazda 3 and it works great. The audio quality is good and if your aux port is inside the armrest, you won't be able to see any dangling wires.

u/GaryJS3 ¡ 2 pointsr/diyelectronics

I used to use a USB powered Bluetooth audio receiver like this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B017CL98X4

You connect to it like a Bluetooth headset/radio and it outputs audio via 3.5 jack. I have one in my garage now. Used to use one in my car, but eventually upgraded to a new stereo that supported BT, which I highly recommend instead of hacking something together.

Since you need RCA and this device is 3.5. Just use an 3.5 to RCA cable like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y2PZ5W4

Android Auto can do that.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.projection.gearhead&hl=en_US

It supports voice control like you describe, and it can integrate with a supported head units in your car (either factory installed or aftermarket), using it as an external display. It does navigation, music/podcasts/audiobooks, texting (speech-to-text and text-to-speech), handsfree calling, and Google Assistant.

Android Auto also has a standalone mode, where you don't need a headunit and can just put your phone on a mount (like this one). However, in the coming weeks/months, that's actually about to go away and be replaced by a new driving mode added to Google Assistant. I use AA's standalone mode in conjuction with a Bluetooth media remote to give me audio playback controls on my steering wheel (since my car doesn't have those built-in). Pressing and holding on the play/pause button brings up the Google Assistant for voice commands, more reliably than saying "OK Google."

BTW, just in case you ever end up getting an iPhone, their equivalent to Google Assistant is called Siri and their equivalent to Android Auto is called CarPlay.

u/BZJGTO ¡ 1 pointr/DIY

Some companies make plug and play adapters for aux-in/Bluetooth. This is a Bluetooth one I'd like to get for my Land Cruiser.

You'll typically just need to take apart your dash to get to the wire harness that plugs in to your head unit. This is by far the easiest way, but even the cheapest plug and play adapters I've seen are $50-60.

wireless music capabilities without the cord, The adapter is compact and lasts for the time I am working a noisy lawn mower, or in a loud high decibel shop that I can't have a cord dangling about amongst power saws.

So, it is nothing new. The amplifier... since this is a stationary speaker stand, might as well have a power outlet for powering the amplifier. The only possible small user case scenario, would be setting up speakers, ala Kamen Rider Gaim's Beat Rider's Free Stage speakers (but even those possibly have a cord somewhere not showing), setting up large, old speakers out where power is not available.

•Text-to-speech enabled, so it can tell you who is calling

Belkin makes a bluetooth adapter that you plug into the AUX port of a speaker / stereo that you can then stream to from your phone using airplay. I used to have one in my car and one for my radio when I was working in the garage, IIRC they are about $30.

u/dfsayers ¡ 1 pointr/AskElectronics

Don't use an FM transmitter. They severely limit the range of your audio, it sounds terrible and distorted. Anything with bass, subtle tones etc. just doesn't sound right.
To some extent all of the tape adapters are like this too, but it's nowhere near as bad. I have been using tape adapters in a '97 ford and an '00 GM and they both sound nice, the impact of the adapter is minimal
What you are experiencing is that the tape player is sensing too much resistance to its gearing/spindle thing. Usually this can be fixed by removing a part inside your tape adapter, basically open it up and take out bits and see what works to make it have less resistance. This site has more info on one adjustment you can do:
http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-cure-car-cassette-adapter-quotauto-revers/

My GM has this problem, but I was able to find another adapter that worked:

I'm looking to get a speaker system for my room, but I'm not sure where to start. It'll be mostly for music but if it works with my TV that's a bonus. I would need it to be bluetooth connectable and I'd like to get it for as cheap as possible without completely sacrificing sound quality. I don't really know much about sound systems in general so any advice on what to look for or what to buy would be really appreciated.

The PB42X look good to me, but it is there a way I could connect to them using bluetooth? I did some looking around and I was wondering if this would work?

You can throw a $40 aftermarket one in there. My mom had one in her old car and it worked fine.

Bluetooth for everyone!

u/YoroSwaggin ¡ 1 pointr/whatcarshouldIbuy

In my past search for cars I just Google the phrases:

[Model name year] repair price -> for the estimated annual repair price, IMHO if you buy CPO or something with less than 40k miles and sell within 3 years you won't be needing anything other than the scheduled maintenance in the manual.

[Model name year] problems -> there are reviews on Edmund, and there is another website whose name I cannot remember with a helpful graph of problem reports for each years, you'll find it it's pretty high up the list

And lastly check out the subreddit for Volvo's.

Volvo's are quality cars and I believe they keep using the same overall engine design for many years with small adjustments each year, so their engines are fairly reliable. Again, just a generalization, you'll need to ascertain this for your model.

As for Bluetooth, I'm not talking about an actual part that you'll need to spend time putting in, but just a handsfree dongle! I'll link you soon.

Ok so:

This is the more expensive option of the same thing, IDK if it's higher quality or just brand tax.

Mpow Bluetooth Receiver, Streambot Hands-free Car Kits & Wireless Music Adapter for Stereo System https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MJMV0GU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_tQgnzbVABGKJM

This is what most people use, connects to your phone with Bluetooth and streams the music thru the radio to your car. IMHO the Volvo's you're buying will most likely have an aux port, and the placement of the charging port wouldn't work very well with this device, so I wouldn't recommend it but I'm linking it anyways in case you buy a car without an aux port.

All in all I'd recommend the first link.

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I have a question regarding cassette adapters vs FM Transmitter Radio. I have an old 2004 Hyundai Sonata so I am currently using this in my car to listen to music on my phone. I've had it for a minute now but recently the quality has deteriorated and is no longer acceptable. I wanted to buy it again however I saw this product on amazon. I was wondering if this would provide better audio quality compared to the cassette adapter? Or if anyone has any other options that can provide the best sound quality possible for my car, i'm open to all suggestions.

u/pathogen47 ¡ 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

Oh come on. This post is just perfect timing. I have the same phone and just got an HTC Bluetooth adapter for my car so I don't have to use the headphone jack. I just finished pairing it up and had to uninstall 3rd party bluetooth apps to get the audio link to work.
Tomorrow will be a full test as I drive to and from work. Guess I'll find out if this is going to be an issue for me. I'll be using Pandora and Amazon Music.

u/WingedGeek ¡ 1 pointr/flying

Just ordered (gotta love Amazon next day shipping), and I'm flying her to CNO Thursday, so I should have more to report then. I'm tempted to think it's the GX55 itself; it's an old unit, the screens are known to be problematic (though this seems to be a unique failure model, where it works 100% for a period, then goes dead), and it doesn't seem to be tied to overall system load...

I love the modern world, too. I was contemplating getting something like this to put BlueTooth into older panels (like mine) with just an aux input for the intercom. (I hate wires strewn about the cockpit, and I'll also have to replace my iPhone 6 at some point.) But I was leery of yet another battery to charge / keep track of, and running a USB power cable into the side of the thing felt like a fragile kludge. So I searched for "12V BlueTooth aux" and: Yep. My dream device exists.

u/ThickAsABrickJT ¡ 1 pointr/diyaudio

What you want is a Bluetooth receiver. I've used them before, but due to the way the standard Bluetooth audio stack works, some devices will only output lossily-compressed audio. To get the best sound quality, you should look for a receiver with AptX support, which has far higher sound quality than standard Bluetooth.

The HD version of this one has AptX support and isn't incredibly expensive. You may be able to find cheaper.

Building your own Bluetooth receiver is likely to be more effort than it's worth since the Arduino and other cheap hobbyist devices don't quite have the processing power to handle CD-quality audio. (It's possible, but will likely take several months of work to DIY.)

u/jfduke3 ¡ 1 pointr/Audi

I bought this Anker ROAV and have been super happy with it.

The problem with AUX jack BT adapters is that almost all of them are battery powered. Which means you have to manually reach over and turn them on every time you get in the car, unless you stop for less than 10 minutes (most have auto-shutoff after 10 minutes or so). And, of course the battery needs to be charged from time to time, and while most of these adapters can be used and charged at the same time, not all can.

The one I linked to is powered by the cigarette lighter, so powers on as soon as you turn the car on. It has an FM transmitter, which is "good enough" if you want music on in the background... but it's not that great if you want to actually crank it up. The ROAV also has an AUX output. I have a 2008 Honda Odyssey where the aux input is right next to the power outlet, so I just bought a tiny AUX cable. It looks pretty good, especially since it's usually hidden by the cup holder.

The whole system works pretty well, and I've had a couple people ask where I got a 2008 Honda with BT factory installed!

I use a couple of these. They work well...

Im only at my place when i have to sleep since I'm a full time college student & worker. so I always charge my phone whenever I have time to.
I use a fast wireless charger with a dual quick charger. aukey offers a single port quick charge too but since my radio doesn't have bluetooth I use an adapter for it.

Sorry to hear your sound quality sucks. I'm currently using the Comsoon Bluetooth FM Transmitter which I purchased from Amazon a couple months ago. Quality is good with no static, you just have to tune it to an empty station. I use it to play from my spotify playlist.

If this thing breaks, let me know how the modulator works out for you. I'd be interested in trying it out.

If you have a cassette player you could use this

u/dashmoopies ¡ 1 pointr/CarAV

Sorry I should've clarified but I'm keeping the stock head unit in the car, it has an AUX input so I'm looking for something like this kind of receiver.

u/Red-and-White ¡ 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I'm using one of these in my Subaru. It's not aptx, but I like the big buttons and it matches the silver on the radio perfectly. I had to Jazzy Mod the radio to add a line in. That receiver has only failed me once and it was like -10°F, but the next day it worked fine. I've been waiting to see if the company will update that model to add aptx.

This.

I use this in my car, and basically it connects to your phone via bluetooth and plays it out on an FM channel of your choice. The quality isn't TOO bad, and at least there's no delay/lag.

>There are Bluetooth units that plug into the cigarette lighter or the aux port. You can leave your old radio alone.

I have one of those in my 2013 Accent and even though it works great for streaming music to the car system it's not that good for handsfree calls since the mic ends up being too far away. Other units might have better mics, but that would be my concern with this solution if making hansfree calls is important.

I recommend this:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CY17SMJ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00

It lets you connect your phone via bluetooth and outputs through your car radio. Also has USB charging slots so you don't lose the charging outlet. My favorite part is the bluetooth receiver turns on automatically when you start the car so your phone will instantly connect, no need to manually turn anything on or off.

Why get an app? Get a new cassette adapter with a microphone built in. I have this one and it works great.

I use a HTC Bluetooth Music Streaming Stereo Clip Adapter plugged into the aux port. It's not the cheapest solution, but I like it because it has an internal battery and supports the apt-X codec which is lossless.

I also use a Satechi BT MediaRemote which I've used velcro to stick it to my car dash. That gives me easy access to volume, next and previous.

u/Notlurkinganymore2 ¡ 1 pointr/Hyundai

It worked immediately.

Are you using an OEM iPhone cable? The generic ones never worked or didn't work for long. I would get charging issues or have issues with sound quality/buzzing. I know they recommend plugging in the cable first, then plugging in your phone or something like that. Occasionally I would have to reconnect the phone for it to recognize and show up on the car's display.

Have you tried using just the audio port? The USB? The audio port can accept an audio source such as your phone, but without changing songs etc from the car display. The USB can play MP3s and even lets you navigate folders. You may have to ensure everything is plugged in securely? I think it was just a single thing you have to unplug? I don't remember exactly.

I actually switched to using a small Bluetooth dongle so my wife could use her phone as well: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DFKGWGM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 That and similar types can be plugged right into the aux and usb connection and you just pair it with your phone.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help with.

This is the exact one but I changed the fuses so the cigarette lighter would come on with ignition, it doesn't reconnect to my phone if it stays on for a while disconnected, also it's probably a good mod to do anyway. Took a minute and works great. Can't speak on the phone call aspect tho cause I don't use it. There's a few higher cost options, might remedy the problems I have, but I wanted something small.

This is a non issue. You can buy an adapter for 15 bucks that plugs into the headphone jack and voila, you can use your bluetooth headphones again. I saw people whining about this on the original Switch too. https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Receiver-RIVERSONG-Hands-Free-Headphone/dp/B071WR8GNZ/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=bluetooth+headphone+adapter&qid=1563127953&s=gateway&sr=8-8

A Bluetooth to Aux adaptor is $20. [Here's one I found in 2 minutes of looking.](http://www.Besign.com/ Bluetooth 4.1 Car Kit for Hands-Free Talking & Music Streaming, Wireless Audio Receiver for Car with 3.5mm AUX input Port https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LGKSBFI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_qPWMBb9Y5E948).

Aux jacks have issues too; have you never used a cable or jack that was scratched and introduced static? The one in my car is terrible.

u/Ghstfce ¡ -21 pointsr/GooglePixel

You know you can get an auxiliary Bluetooth Adapter, right?
