> I don't currently use a facial sunscreen but going to as soon as I figure out a regimen.

When it comes to fading scars and redness, sunscreen is perhaps more important than any other part of the process.

Also, if you're self-conscious about how it looks (as opposed to just trying to repair it) you could use a sunblock with a green tint to cancel out the redness somewhat.

Using a throwaway for this. OP, if I can be of more help, send a message to this account and I'll give you my regular username so we can message back and forth.

-----------------------

I've dealt with minor to severe body acne since I first developed acne as a teenager (I'm 25 now). I am also a compulsive skin picker. At times I went several days to a week without picking at all (my skin improved immensely those first few days) but when I was feeling particularly stressed or depressed I would have a meltdown. I could spend 30 minutes to an hour picking at my skin nonstop at my worst. I knew it was awful while I was doing it but I simply couldn't get myself to stop. I have no rational explanation for it other than I simply lost control.

Within the past year or two I have more or less gotten it under control. I did essentially what you are attempting to do: "If I could only get rid of the spots, then I wouldn't have anything to pick". I was able to get it under control enough so that I didn't have anything to pick at.

The first part is the hardest. Be mindful of food that can help control inflammation. The antioxidants in green tea are very helpful. I try to drink 2-3 cups a day and apply the teabag directly to the skin on my worst spots (this gets the inflammation under control as well as anything I've found). I also each a small bowl of baby carrots once a day and try to eat pumpkin seeds (zinc) and walnuts (omega 3 fatty acid) as often as I can.

As my diet was supplying my body with the nutrients to help fight the acne from the inside, I was also using topical products to continue to fight it from the outside. I started using Amlactin to try to help unclog my pores. I now believe that my main problem was keratosis pilaris that was only becoming inflamed acne after I picked at it. This lotion goes deep down to gradually unclog the pore (be patient, it takes some time). However, Amlactin doesn't do a particularly good job of taming active acne so it may be best to use it in tandem with another product (these work fairly well for me and they really easy to use). Amlactin is sticky (I only use it at night for this reason) and makes more skin more sensitive to sunlight so be sure to wear a sunscreen if you go this route.

Also, I've recently begun using a derma roller to help with the old scars. But I wouldn't suggest that until you have your acne more under control.

Lastly, something that is very important to me is to keep my skin feeling comfortable. If it's earlier dry or too greasy I'm prone to start picking. Cocoa butter lotion is my preference. I know some don't like cocoa butter because it is comedogenic but it is very soothing. I had problems with cocoa butter creams clogging my skin, but not the lotions. I usually use Vaseline Cocoa Butter Lotion (soothing and moisturizing) or Queen Helene Cocoa Butter Lotion (more soothing and absorbs better, but not very moisturizing).

I hope that helps. Again send me a message if you have any questions.

I get it also and it's embarrassing. I was in some thread a few days ago where this Butt Acne Clearing Lotion was mentioned and am considering buying it. The majority of the reviews are 5 stars.

Might make things a bit messy, but the oil wouldn't F up the electronics the same way water would since it doesn't conduct electricity.

Bonus: It will relieve your occasional constipation.

I've had success with Mario Bedescu Buffering Lotion. A blemish doesn't have to break the skin to leave me with a 6-9 dark spot so I can't afford to let anything develop for even a day. I discovered the hard way that my skin cannot tolerate glycolic acid and the buffering lotion really made a difference with the cystic bumps it caused.

Product name: Unrefined, raw shea butter

Price (range): Can vary widely depending on where/who you buy it from, but I use the Sky Organics one from Amazon.

Country of purchase: USA

Skin info: Oily/combination, Fitzpatrick 5-6, sensitive/easily dehydrated/large pores.

Ingredient list: Unrefined, raw shea butter (lol)

Special info: Rich in vitamin A & E and moisturizing fatty acids. It's also apparently non-comedogenic. And cruelty free!

Unrefined raw shea butter should be off-white to cream colored, but is not always uniform in color. Some dark flecks are normal. It can be crumbly and should smell somewhat nutty.

For those who need heavy, heavy moisture, look for shea nilotica (East African shea butter) specifically. The ratio of fatty acids makes it more moisturizing that West African shea butter which is already nothing to sneeze at.

Also, lots of online retailers support initiatives that promote sustainable economic development in Sub-Saharan Africa and help empower the women who do the overwhelming majority of the work when it comes to production of shea butter.

Experience & opinion: I've been using shea butter as the last step in my nightly routine for years now. It is the one product I can depend on to never break me out, never clog my pores, and never irritate my skin. It has helped heal and save my skin SO MANY TIMES when I've fucked it up by being too intense with acids or retinoids. It is absolutely without a doubt the single most important product I use that keeps dehydration at bay. If I'm going out at night and I put on a thin layer, and people tell me my skin is glowing. The only reason I can't use it during the day is that my sunscreen already makes my face way too shiny. Also a lifesaver for chapped lips or dry, cracked hands.

I will say the raw stuff can be hard to spread. A lot of retailers whip their shea butter which makes it easier to spread without destroying the benefits. If you don't want to use a whipped version, you can always break off a piece and warm it in your hands or the microwave.

Hey there, I've got all kinds of eccentric natural beauty/health products that I can suggest:

I don't use body soap at all -- I just scrub in the shower with an asian washcloth.

I do use soap on my hands, as they're exposed to all sorts of yucky stuff and then I touch food and other people. For soap, I use Dr. Bronner's. I also use it as body wash if I get something unusually gross on my body (engine oil, for example).

For deodorant, I use one of those crystals. I like this one just cause it's shaped like regular deodorant.

I make my own lotion with shea butter and jojoba oil from Amazon. I weigh out 70g of shea butter and 30g of jojoba oil in a bowl and melt them in the microwave. Then I mix them up and put the bowl in the fridge for a few minutes to cool. I use an electric mixer to mix the lotion and then put it back in the fridge for another few minutes. Eventually, the lotion cools to the point where I can whip it (kind of like whipping cream). I also add some essential oils once it's cooled but still fairly liquid (coconut and lemon is my current jam) so that takes care of perfume :)

For toothpaste, I actually use tooth powder. (It's also good for the whole TSA nonsense.) There are a bunch of brands, Ecodent, for example.

I'm including some product links, just so you can see what I'm talking about. I haven't purchased that particular brand of shea butter, but it looks nice :) You might try going down to your local health food/hippie store and see what kind of products they have in their beauty section. My local store has stuff like soap, shampoo, and conditioner in bulk, so you can buy just a bit and try it out to see if it works for you :)

u/fatmama923 · 7 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

You def need to moisturize, that's what makes the difference. If you don't like doing it outside the shower(i fucking hate it) try the in-shower lotion or almond oil in the shower. I'll never go back.

You could use a magnesium oil spray or take epson salt baths. Magnesium can be absorbed through the skin.

Hey ScA! Found a few products that I wanted to add to my routine through reccs here and research so I thought I'd share them. I have combination skin, Fitzpatrick type IV, and my daily struggles are mainly with hyperpigmentation, a wonky texture on my forehead, and hydration. If you have any friendly advice, warnings, criticisms, I'm all ears. :)

-From Left to Right-

  • Radha Beauty Rosehip Oil: Bought mainly for the linoleic acid. The bottle is huge, the dropper is nice, and it should last a while sitting in its nook in my fridge.
  • Peach Slices Citrus-Honey Aqua Glow: a gel moisturizer with a light, citrus scent that absorbs like lightning and sits well under my sunscreen. I'm patch testing this right now but I'm very happy with it. Confession: shamelessly bought for the packaging.
  • CVS samples! :)
  • Timeless 100% Pure Squalane Oil: emollient, comes in a glass bottle and I'm probably going to mix a few drops in with my moisturizers or use it in its own step.
  • AmLactin AHA Body Lotion: My boyfriend and I both suffer from keratosis pilaris, so we're giving this a shot in conjunction with a daily SPF on the arms.
  • Biore Perfect UV Face Milk: This is a repurchase, it lasts surprisingly long for only being 30 ml (then again, I don't reapply, tsk tsk), is cosmetically elegant, and though there's a bit of a white cast, it goes away after a few minutes even on my darker skin. It is a bit drying, though, which makes sense since its supposed to be a matte sunscreen but I might replace it when I get around to it. Still highly recommend, especially for oily skin!

Also picked up some cod liver oil. Will it do anything for my skin? Uh, maybe! Mom's been getting on me about my omega-3s so I humored her. :)
u/duckingcluttered · 6 pointsr/BabyBumps

I'm including links to what I purchased on Amazon but you can shop around and get what you need :) If you end up getting what I'm linking to, it'll last you quite a while. I even sell some occasionally.

This is my nut free version but you I'll include some alternatives if you want to use different butters/oils. Basically, you want equal parts so adjust the recipe for amount you want. This will give you a little more than 2oz of body butter which lasts me at least a month and I put it on quite a bit. You only need a little at a time.

  1. Combine everything into a double boiler. If you don't have one, using a mason jar in a pot of boiling water works nicely. Melt the butters on medium low to medium heat, stirring constantly, just until everything is mixed and there are no solids left.

  2. Pour into small mixing bowl. Note: This is where I usually add essential oils, but during pregnancy, you'll want to be extremely careful about using them since many shouldn't be used. You don't need them, but if you want the added benefits, there are sites out there that can tell you which are considered safe. If you add them, let the oils cool for a few minutes then add them and stir the mixture well

  3. Put the bowl in the fridge for 45 minutes until it starts to solidify. If you don't want to wait that long, you can put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes until it starts to solidify. The edges will look more solid but the center should still be pretty liquid.

  4. Either with a whisk or an electric hand mixer (much easier), start mixing it. It'll start to solidify into the whipped texture, especially if you're using the electric mixer.

  5. When you're satisfied with consistency, put it into a jar or tupperware container. If you're somewhere hot and it starts to melt a bit, you can put it in the fridge to solidify it again.

You just need a small amount and it'll melt from your body heat and soak into your skin. Feels AMAZING.

Did you change anything in your routine that might've caused it? I dealt with butt (cheek) acne for a while too, and I realized that the onset coincided with the period of time that I started working out a lot (sweaty gym tights and sharing gym surfaces = grossness). So I tried to be more diligent about showering as soon as I finished working out, and I also started using one of those Japanese exfoliating cloths to make sure to get rid of any build up. I also tried a butt acne clearing lotion, but I'm not too sure if it made much of a difference. I think there are also body washes with benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or tea tree oil that you could try, but I think the exfoliating cloths were what really helped clear it up.

u/prolixdreams · 6 pointsr/starterpacks

To you and everyone else in this thread: Green makeup base/lotion. Yes, even if you're a dude.

This mutes the worst of horrible flushing. It doesn't mask it completely but it makes it less obvious (at least a "cute blush" instead of "why the fuck is your face so red.")

u/Bad_Karma21 · 6 pointsr/howtonotgiveafuck

Brother, brother, brother, I feel like I was MADE for this thread. I went on medication for acne, minocycline, shortly after my 21st birthday. It cleared up my acne, but it gave me the WORST facial blushing I've ever had. When it first started to happen, I thought it was just a weird side effect that would go away when I stopped taking the medication; spoiler alert, it didn't.

What followed was three of the most painstaking years of my life. Obviously, not all of it from the blushing, but it definitely destroyed my confidence at the age when I should have been out having fun. A few things I learned:

  • Learn to love yourself. In the grand scheme of things, facial blushing is not a big deal. There are people walking around with disfigurement that have confidence; why can't you? The less you let it embarrass you, the less you will blush overall.

  • Get healthy. Drink a lot of water. Exercise. Eat better and take care of your diet. I found I would blush a lot more when my stomach was upset or I was experiencing acid reflux symptoms. This led me down a path of acid reflux meds that I should have never been on, and led to more problems down the line.

  • Cover it up. Buy this and use it. Grow a beard. Wear a hat. It will help distract others, and yourself, from thinking you're constantly embarrassed.

Anyways, that and time are what worked for me. I know how bad it can suck, as I went from a confident guy that loved attention and would look everyone in the eye to a recluse that shied away from life. I can never get those years back, but you can learn from my mistakes. It's really not a big deal at all. I went bald two years later at 23 from my doctor overprescribing an acid reflux med. Then facial blushing didn't seem too bad.

Live long and prosper my friend.
u/jasmindonesian · 6 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I know what you mean. I was kind of scared at first but went ahead and gave it a try because I guess the molecules of petroleum are too big to clog your pores. To apply, I just put it on my fingertips and tap it onto my skin but with 8 fingers at a time cause it's faster. I would just slather it all over but my acne spot treatments get in the way. I'm based in the US but its so common you can get it pretty much anywhere. Here's the amazon link for starters. They come in sizes way smaller than this also.

u/mastiii · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

You can, but it will make your bathtub really dirty and oily. And possibly dangerous if you slip on it. And can also clog your drain.

What's the purpose of using the oil in the shower? To wash yourself, to moisturizer, or both? I'd either go soap-free (as in, not use any products in the shower) or else use a hydrating body wash. Either something like this or this.

u/FavoriteActorDennehy · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Okay this is what cleared up my chest and back in two weeks.

2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Bar Soap

Alpha Skin Care Revitalizing Body Lotion with 12% Glycolic AHA

I'm also using two other products to lighten the leftover marks (Alpha Hydrox
Spot Light Targeted Skin Lightener & InstaNatural Niacinamide 5% Face Serum) but haven't seen much improvement in that regard.

I would really recommend an AHA. The brand Alpha Hydrox has Swipes that are easy to use, but the also have an intensive serum of the same percentage, that is way more cost effective.

Serum

Swipes

If you would prefer to get the swipes, I would suggest cutting them in half and using half a one each time. It definitely has enough product and the swipes will last twice as long :)

I LOVE Shiseido's Hada Senka Mineral UV gel sunscreen, so I definitely recommend getting that as well. Stridex also sounds like a good idea. A light moisturizer might be a good idea as well, especially if you are using Stridex and masks, since they can dry out your skin. I really like Nivea Creme ( in the blue tub), but that might be a little too heavy for you( though they have tiny tins for like $1 so it might be worth a shot). I have heard good things about Simple's Gel Moisturizer.

u/sasha_says · 5 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

The daily facial cleanser is closer to the foaming facewash OP is using, their gentle skin cleanser has fatty acids in it like the hydrating cleanser and may clog pores if you're acne prone. The Cetaphil moisturizing lotion is the closest to the lotion the OP is using.

I second this I'm happy to help, but if you still want to go to that shop, then you should definitely get this and this. So you can be lubed up and look good when you go back to get FUCKED.

u/screambledeggs · 5 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I recommend using a hydrating toner. This stuff helps the moisturizer sink in better. A popular recommendation is Hada Labo gokujyun lotion. I'm on my second bottle and I will keep repurchasing it. It's also fragrance-free.

Another recommendation would be using an occlusive after moisturizer. It locks in the moisture so it doesn't evaporate from your skin. There's good ol' Vaseline, Aquaphor, and CeraVe healing ointment (which is my personal favorite). They're all fragrance-free. You only need a small amount to cover the face. I use like... a dime size amount.

To "hide" it implies concealing it. Concealing implies adding a product over it. That is makeup lol. Do you consider this makeup? It is green tinted and can also provide redness relief.

I think the way to beat it is to not clench the booty hole. You still have a couple of weeks until Draft-Day. I'd recommend a couple containers of this and some bananas and cucumbers? Your goal should be to mitigate the potential damage and pain.

The only downside to this is your butt might be whistling for the next couple months.

u/goldragon · 4 pointsr/wicked_edge

If you want to use an oil as an aftershave, try jojoba oil. A 4oz bottle will last you six months as it only takes 2-4 drops to moisturize your beard area. It feels really great going on but does leave you looking a bit shiny.

As other comments say, it sounds like you need to stop using an alcohol-based aftershaves and try a balm. I am currently using The Shave Den Aftershave Milk (which lists jojoba oil as its #2 ingredient) or I recommend Taylor of Old Bond Street Herbal Aftershave Balm which has avocado oil along with honey and wheatgerm.

If you are worried about skin infections, do as the others suggest and get a nice alum block. After shaving, rinse with warm then cool water, rub alum block all over your face, allow to dry for a minute while you clean up the sink area, then rinse off and apply balm of choice.

u/seahan123 · 4 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I have this too and I've used AmLactin Ultra Triple Action Alpha Hydroxy Acid Hydrating Body Cream, which was recommended by my dermatologist and while the little red bumps are still there, they are much less noticeable and my skin is so much softer!

I've also used DermaDoctor's KP Duty line and found it not as effective for it's really high price.

u/bee_antlers · 4 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I have very sensitive dry skin as well.

I use Eucerin Eczema Relief Cream on my face. It's non-comedogenic, fragrance free, and has colloidal oatmeal for redness/irritation and ceramides for moisture.

I got it as a dupe for the expensive First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream, which has irritants like eucalyptus oil.

I highly recommend the Eucerin. It's the only heavy cream I can use that doesn't break me out and calms my tretinoin induced redness and irritation.

In terms of a facial oil: Timeless Squalane 100% Pure is a non-comedogenic, bland, non-greasy option that would be a great place to start. I use it as well and it does not break me out or cause any irritation.

u/trichyfingers · 4 pointsr/trichotillomania

I also pick at my legs. It doesn’t help that I have keratosis pilaris. I tried using an epilator for a while, but I kept ending up with ingrown hairs that I would then pick at some more.

I tend to pick at my legs when I’m very anxious.

One thing that I’ve found recently is AmLactin. If I’m consistent with it, I barely have anything to pick at on my legs. I’ve been thinking about trying the epilator again and then using AmLactin 24hrs after, and continue with it daily.

Exfoliating with glycolic acid (AHA) products like this lotion. I have KP that looks like dark spots on my skin or like my hair follicle is still visible after shaving and this helps that too. Physical exfoliation is not enough for me. Also, shaving everyday when needed.

u/Richter915 · 3 pointsr/Dermatology

The fact that you've seen it on multiple body parts and has been around through the bulk of your adolescence and young adult age makes me think eczema that much more.

I think at this point you need to get official word from a dermatologist. As soireeduthe is suggesting, this could also be a fungal infection. The treatment of fungus and treatment of eczema are very very different. Only a doctor can distinguish between the two.

What you can do in the interim is to try the following moisturization protocol which I posted in another thread and see if it helps any:

I'd like you to moisturize using vaseline and I want you to apply it in a specific way. Shower with warm water (enough to get the bathroom steamy but not boiling hot). When you dry your feet, pat your feet dry and while there's a thin layer of water still on the feet, I want you to apply the vaseline. Leave that on overnight.

Preferred vaseline: https://www.amazon.com/Vaseline-Petroleum-Jelly-Original-Pack/dp/B001ECQ4L2

People don't like it because it's greasy but I tell you it works. If you want the vaseline lotion, get the one with the absolute least number of ingredients.

Other things that can help: humidifier in the bedroom, warm air, and diligent moisturization.

See if that gives you any relief. It often takes upwards of a week to see any results at all. In the mean time, get to a doc's office if you can!

Cheers,
Dr. K.

u/knitpixie · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I’ve only ever used this one, so I’m not sure how the ingredients compare. The bottle I got last night at costco was $13.79 for 20 oz so it’s waaay cheaper there if you have access.

u/knov5 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

From the pics, it seems like the bite marks are still somewhat swollen. I suggest you avoid any harsh ingredients in your body wash (if there’s any) and avoid any kind of exfoliation. For now, you should try applying some aloe vera gel. Check if you’re allergic though.
After all the redness and swollen calm down, you can start using AHAs for the pigmentation (something like Alpha Hydrox’s 12% Glycolic lotion) + sunscreen when you go out. It should help fade the dark spots.
Make sure you have no open scar before you start using AHA.

u/phoenixink · 3 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

What have you been putting on them? I would say some sort of salve, Vaseline, or of course Egyptian Magic which is a bit expensive but is AMAZING, and lasts FOREVER (you only need the tiniest bit). You can use it on everything - lips, eyelashes, face, scars, cuts and scrapes, chaffed skin, feet, cuticles. Everything. I've had my jar for like six years.

Enough of that, though, if you don't have any Vaseline or a salve on hand, an unscented lotion may also help. Definitely nothing with a fragrance. Are you staying hydrated enough?

u/kitsunegi · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Don't know if my recommendation will help in any way since I'm male and might have a different skin type than you, but I figured I might as well offer my experience.

Are your pimples the kind that are under the skin (not whiteheads or blackheads) and hurt when you press down on them? I get those a lot, and whenever I would feel the small red bump hurting when I pressed on it, I would dread it because within a few days it would always mushroom up into a huge zit.

I desperately searched this sub for treatments and tried a few duds until I found Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion. Now when I feel the small red bump, I apply the liquid-y solution to the area every night, and within 3-4 days, the hurting when I press down on it stops and a week or so later, the red spot fully disappears.

It's more of a solution for when you already feel the zit coming, rather than a way to prevent it entirely, but it's given me a lot of relief, knowing that I won't have to deal with something bigger than a red spot.

Amazon link if you want, but you can also find it elsewhere: https://www.amazon.com/Mario-Badescu-Buffering-Lotion-oz/dp/B000O5RVJO/

u/iheartbrainz · 3 pointsr/BabyBumps

I'm a big fan of the Unrefined Shea Butter. It's a solid that gets creamy when you rub it in your hands, but will stay on and keep you hydrated for like, 12 hours. It doesn't smell, but if you want to spruce it up, the seller will send you an e-recipe book so that you can make it into more of a lotion with essential oils or other cool things you can do with it. I keep a big chunk of it in a half size mason jar in my bathroom. It works on the heels of your feet, elbows, it's good for psoriasis and eczema. I just love it, and it's dirt cheap for the amount you get.

I'm a nurse and wash my hands a billion times a day with harsh soaps and alcohol-based sanitizer foam. I would get terrible eczema and my hands would crack and bleed. I had one finger that was permanently itchy, dry, and cracked for at least a year. I swear by this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/Eucerin-Eczema-Relief-Creme-Ounce/dp/B00DEXA0LY It's really thick and rich, but it has essentially healed my hand eczema. I use it at least every night before I go to sleep and sometimes during the day if my hands are feeling extra dry due to the weather and whatnot.

This could be keratosis pilaris (KP), which I also get on my legs, although not nearly as noticeable as in the Wikipedia photo. If you search on reddit, you will find lots of comments. Most people use a combination of exfoliation and moisturizing. I exfoliate with exfoliating gloves in the shower and use AmLactin lotion with great results.

u/ClemWillRememberThat · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I had a semi successful day yesterday. It went okay. I squeezed a spot on my temple/hairline but then I stopped myself, and honestly that is the part I have the most difficulty with--stopping myself once I start.

Here are the spot treatments I use:

  • Walgreen's 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide. This is a generic for the Neutrogena On-The-Spot 2.5% BP, which I got because it doesn't have the emulsifying wax that Paula Praised Be Her Name complained about. Honestly though, when I run out I'm going to go back to the Neutrogena--I've got dry skin so something being more moisturizing isn't a con for me (and I buffer my BP anyway) and the generic stuff pills up SO badly when I top it off with vaseline. Sorry PB. Anyway. BP is seriously the most effective acne-killer for me. Every other day I use it in a thin layer all-over, and in between I use it liberally on my acne spots. It can be drying, but 2.5% buffered and topped with vaseline does the trick.

  • Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion. This stuff is SUPER EFFECTIVE at beating cystic/nodular acne into submission, but it also kicks my moisture barrier in the ass probably because of the very high alcohol content. I use this very sparingly and only when I have painful inflamed cystic/nodular acne. I probably won't end up repurchasing this because it's really easy for me to overuse this, even as sparingly as I do.

  • Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum. I got this in my BirchBox last month and I'm really digging it. Azaleic acid is the 2nd ingredient, and it's got salicylic acid and tea tree oil in it as well. It's a liquidy serum that dries clear. I use this as a spot treatment in the AM (I buffer this too). I hate that it's $35 for a half ounce but I'm considering purchasing it anyway because I really like it. The SA helps with inflammation, the TTO is antibacterial and antifungal, and the azaleic acid is antibacterial too I think.

  • And last but certainly not least, hydrocolloid bandages. They are the rock star of spot treatments. But I don't have any sterile lances so using them means I've popped something.. I should really look into that. It is unbelievably satisfying to peel them off in the morning and see all my face gunk locked into the HBC.
u/bbynug · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

All that rubbing might be kinda irritating, especially if he has eczema. And more especially if you're saying it's painful 😩

OP, maybe you have Keratosis pilaris?? A lot of people on this sub have had success with AmLactin Lotion for their KP.

Can you recommend any sunscreen that would be good for me? My face is really oily so a lot of sunscreens I've tried just make me look too greasy and others i've tried leave a really white tint on my face.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm a guy, so I'm really in unfamiliar territory here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I started using minoxidil to stimulate facial hair growth, so I've wanted to start dermarolling as well to help with collagen production.

I've purchased a dermaroller and 70% alcohol, but I'm a bit lost on what moisturizing products I should use immediately after dermarolling.

My daily lotion right now is Lubriderm 3 in 1 but I imagine that's not something I want to use after dermarolling.

I've sort of browsed around on here and there's a lot of products and abbreviations that are lost on me, but it seems like vitamin C is a good option to use after dermarolling?

Something like CeraVe vitamin C Serum is something I've seen suggested. I've also seen others suggest Timeless vitamin C serum but I'm not quite sure what the differences are.

Do these seem like good options, or is there something better you'd suggest? I'll take any opinions/suggestions

Fed up, I wrote to customer service about this very thing a few weeks ago. I received a very nice reply, telling me that they (.ca) have little to no control over what individual sellers on their site choose to charge for items and shipping.

I suggested that a little oversight in that area might be a good idea for their sales -and- their lousy reputation.

For my pre-shave beard wash at the sink, I really like Musgo Real Glyce Lime Oil soap (MR GLO).

I don't use a brush or razor stand: brush stands on base of handle, razor on its side, both out in the open to dry.

Balms are not my thing, but Weleda is pretty good, traditional balms are nice but can be expensive, or you can make your own.

Jojoba oil can be found in the cosmetics section of drugstores or at stores like Whole Foods or on-line.

It's actually not Shea Moisture--it's pure shea butter that someone else recommended on this sub! I think this is the one I got (off of Amazon). I've also used grapeseed oil before and liked it. Some say jobajoba or whatever is the best. Others swear by coconut oil, but it can cause you to breakout depending on skin. Coconut oil makes you smell great though.

Gel I use Deva Arc AnGEL because I got a giant bottle at a discount. Then I put LA Looks (the blue one) on top because it has a strong hold and I live somewhere that's really humid. Not sure I'll buy Deva again. It works well, but is a little out of my price range...

There are a lot of brands in this offer I know nothing about, but there are a few things I can recommend:

La Roche Posay sunscreen, such as the Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen or the Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen. These American LRP sunscreens still aren't as great as the European versions, but they still work very well and I like how they sit on my skin.

I also love the LRP Toleriane moisturizer, but it is much cheaper where I live; I'm not sure it is worth the money with all great, cheap moisturizers available in America.

Mario Badescu buffering lotion is HG status for me. Nothing, not even prescriptions, work as well as this lotion on my cystic acne. I've never tried the drying lotion, which is for non-cystic acne, but I've seen it recommended here a number of times.

Also, seriously, the Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25. Technically, this is a skin care line for men, but who cares? I've read some good things about their moisturizers here, but never tried one. I maybe own the lip balm in every flavor....

It sounds a lot like Exfoliative keratolysis, though I recommend consulting a derm to know for sure.

I don't know what other lotions you used, but I've tried working hands and I personally found the texture to be dry and starchy. Treatments for this recommend creams with lactic acid, so Amlactin may be worth a shot. It might be greasier than you want, so try using it before bed and see if that helps.

Also avoiding solvents, harsh cleansers, maybe even heavily fragranced things on your hands could help as well.

I use TO Squalane Oil and I love it! I think it is out of stock now though because of Black Friday. I also have Timeless Squalane Oil and I like it as well! Lanolin is by my favorite occlusive – it’s also lovely as a lip mask especially over a layer of Aquaphor.

I use Sky Organics unrefined shea butter. Amazon link. What I do is I scoop out give or take a pea sized amount, warm it up in my hands, then mix in a pump (or half pump depending on how I feel) of body lotion or a few drops of oil. I do this for both arms, then for my stomach, lower back and butt, and then each leg on its own (I get dry legs so I use a generous amount). It’s not the most elegant to use and feels a bit gritty but the results are so worth the effort! For my chest and upper back though, I mix a small amount with Squalane Oil and my essence as my body lotions break me out there!

u/mamavico · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I think people with your skin type, though it might seem counter intuitive, benefit from oil cleansing. Cleansing in the morning and taking off your make up with mineral oil (super cheap like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B2RG1C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER or just fragrance free baby oil) or argan oil or Clinique Take The Day Off Balm or this stuff http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/lmaster/item/x156280h0910/ There are a lot of options! That your skin feels so dry after washing and so greasy soon after suggests that you are stripping your skin and so your skin is overcompensating and producing too much oil.

Have you tried BHA aka salicylic acid?

I usually buy this from Amazon. It comes in a one pound bag so I just scoop out about 1/6 of it into a jar which lasts me for weeks each time.

It's really easy to use, and I mainly use it on my body right after showering. The texture is kind of like cookie dough at room temperature so I just rub it between my hands before spreading all over. It absorbs quite quickly. I had a lot of scars on my legs from childhood eczema that wouldn't go away for years. They are all gone now (disappeared completely after about 1-2years of shea butter) so I'm like a walking testament to the its magic prowess. (:

I'd drop shampoo altogether, use conditioner. Massage your scalp gently but thoroughly with your finger tips. If your hair is long, be sure to gently smooth the conditioner through it. As for your skin, try different body washes. I've used that in the past as well as Gillette Series After Shave Gel with success. Right now I'm using Lubriderm Men's 3-in-1 Lotion which is the most economical (i.e. cheap) way to get the most bang for your buck.

The reason I like Lubriderm so much is the dispensing method. With those other options listed, I had a tendency to use too much. With one push/squirt, you should have plenty for your post shaved face. I'm sure most people frown upon the 'combo' products (which I usually do), but this has been working for me pretty well so far.

u/unwinagainstable · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

There are quite a few options. I've used 3: Alpha Hydrox 10% Lotion, MUAC Glycolic Acid Body Lotion and Amlactin.

Amlactin is sticky and didn't feel good on my skin at all. I didn't use it long enough to really gauge it's effectiveness. I just couldn't stand that tacky/sticky feeling.

MUAC Glycolic Acid Body lotion works amazing on my PIH. I've been dealing with compulsive picking for years on mostly my arms and this has been the best product I've ever used for healing PIH and redness by far. The downside is it's not very moisturizing so if you have dry skin you'll likely need something else to go along with it. I also have to use quite a bit to get good coverage because it doesn't spread all that well. So while it isn't too expensive per oz I run out of it fairly quickly.

Alpha Hydrox 10% Lotion is what I would recommend to most people. It's more moisturizing than MUAC's lotion and soaks in quickly. It never feels greasy or sticky. It also spreads better than MUAC and I don't have to use as much. The downsides are it's not as good for PIH and it causes some clogged pores for me (which can be a big problem with my skin picking habits).

I didn't notice the smell /u/Khokhmah described in any of the lotions.

Dry climate, super hard water. I got a Salux cloth off eBay (you can find them on amazon too I believe) and I am hooked. They are extremely exfoliating, so you have to get used to the feeling but nothing has softened my skin like this. I’m not too fussy about body wash as long as it’s not too drying but I HIGHLY recommend Nivea In-shower Body Creme after washing, I hate putting body cream on after a shower and this stuff has helped my dry, itchy skin when I get out.

Here you go! It's not AB - but it's a quality product for a good price.

Alpha Hydrox Intensive Serum 14 Percent Glycolic AHA

I would absolutely recommend patch testing this liquid before use. In my case it seems too harsh for all-over use, despite what the product description suggests. I achieve daily chemical exfoliation with lower percent concentrations of AHA product. This 14% liquid is awesome for bringing CC's to the surface, and dealing with cystic acne (so that they come up and can be cured with a hydrocolloid patch!)
This product also causes some breakouts to resolve completely and just flatten out without coming to a head at all, which is nice.

This brand has a whole range of good AHA products, and my skin responds very well to glycolic acid (oily skin!).

Ulta carries Alpha Hydrox products -- and I got mine when they were having a 50% off sale!!! It was a great deal. This brand pops up in Ulta promotions every few months or so.

Teenage Male Routine Help?

u/aquajack6 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Moisturizers, but specifically moisturizers with ingredients that are classified as emollients make the skin soft. Lotions are mostly water (but often have emollients too), and creams typically have a higher percentage of emollients.

Yes, people generally use the same lotion all over their body.

Common emollients include: fatty alcohols (cetearyl, stearyl alcohol), squalene, lanolin, oils (jojoba, coconut, almond, grapeseed, rosehip, etc), shea butter, ceramides, etc. I'm sure I'm leaving some out.

I've also found that using ahas on the body can also help my skin become soft. Iirc ahas don't just exfoliate, they also hydrate the skin. Here's an aha body lotion..

To have soft skin all over my body, I use the same method as I do for my face. I have a routine that includes exfoliation, and moisturize in the order of 1)something that's hydrating (hydrating mists & lotions with water as the first ingredient) 2) Use a cream with a lot of emollient ingredients 3) I sometimes layer over that with an occlusive like Aquaphor or Vaseline.

u/agsrhg · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I am an Asian with olive skin tone, and I can tell you that hyper pigmentation does not last. It can slowly disappear over time, when you exfoliate and moisturise using the right ingredients consistently. I have found using a few drops of rosehip oil to my moisturiserhas helped gradually lighten all my acne scars and pigmentation on my forehead and around my mouth. I use rosehip oil in the morning and night, followed by sunscreen during the day. Make sure your skin is well moisturised even though it is oily because dry skin is the main cause of lasting hyper pigmentation. Your skin needs to heal for your scars to fade. Don't be tempted to use extreme products such as acid peels and vitamin c everyday, the acidity in these products and your melanin will cause your hyper pigmentation to darken. Use chemical products only once or twice a week during the night before bed.

I use Egyptian Magic Cream on my lips. It's a "face cream" but I treat it like Vaseline. The stuff is literally magic. I bought it from Costco for much cheaper.

I use Lubriderm 3-in-1 lotion and really like it... Never heard it mentioned here. I'm probably only one that uses it on any shaving forum haha (Amazon link below)

I struggled with Butne for years and this is all that worked: Butt Acne Clearing Lotion - 4 fl. oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0089MUOOS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_l7IpybA6PH4EW

What the hell is he doing to the back of his head? Did he recently shave it - more sensitive?

Get a good aloe vera cream or some good shea butter. I use this for my face - apply after each roll and by morning am good to go. Helps with the BJJ facials gi's can cause.

Shea Butter - I use for the cracked skin on my fingers/hands:

I use Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion (https://www.amazon.com/Cetaphil-Moisturizing-Lotion-Skin-Types/dp/B001ET76GW). Works great all over. Light consistency and hydrates very quickly.

I tried a Cerave cream once and it actually made my face break out worse, but it seems to work well for others.

> When I grew up, I realized there's a time and place for different conversations. You don't talk about your preference in hemroid creams at the dinner table. You don't talk about the joint you're going to smoke when you get home in the courtroom. I think you'll eventually learn the same lesson.

all fucking social conditioning. all fucking retarded.

there's nothing wrong with talking about my asshole at the dinner table. everyone has an asshole, and taking care of it is important part of being human. and btw magnesium oil works better than any hemorrhoid cream, and helps to fix a nutrient deficiency basically everyone has.

and nothing wrong with smoking a joint after getting home from the courtroom over some of the most corrupt laws ever to be devised (the drug laws)

why the flying fuck are people allowed to stick their heads up their asses and ignore reality!?

because that's what your indoctrination tells you in allowed? have you considered, for a moment, that such an ideology makes people more manipulable to the elite!? ^(i doubt it, you don't strike me as someone with that depth of thought)

You may need this: Vaseline

Try the Mario Badescu buffering lotion instead? "Specifically designed to treat large, deep, cystic acne."

I use this L'Oreal cleanser to wash my face and this Lubriderm lotion to prevent dryness.

u/wakatopatopa · 1 pointr/beauty

Consider Egyptian Magic, too. It's expensive, but a little goes a long way. It's made from olive oil, bees wax, honey, bee pollen, royal jelly & propolis extract, has virtually no scent (I smell a little of the olive oil and the royal jelly but it's mild and pleasant) and is just downright good for you.

In addition to all the bizarre Dr Bronner's style writing on it, this stuff is good for everything. Of course as a moisturizer, but it also makes an amazing deep conditioning treatment for hair (I recommend an apple cider vinegar rinse), tames flyaways with just a tiny bit, stops razorburn dead, is amazing on minor burns for both pain relief and accelerating healing, is great for tattoos... I could go on and on.

u/duckydoom · 1 pointr/xxketo

Ohh, man. I love blackwork, which is kind of funny since most of my tattoos are in full color. I love the cleanness of blackwork and will probably add more to my right calf to work with one I already have there with minimal color.

Luckily(?) enough for me I carry the majority of my excess weight around my belly, thanks PCOS. I think rib and underboob tattoos are gloriously sexy, but even at my sveltest I don't think I'd be brave enough to do it. Mine are all on limbs.

Currently for lotions, I'm alternating between Nivea in shower lotion and CeraVe Intense Stretch Marks cream and they don't make me break out, absorb quickly, and don't smell too much. I've noticed some reduction in the redness of my stomach stretchies, and my arms don't have those stupid bumps on them anymore.

when people refer to Vaseline here, are they referring to the petroleum jelly one?

u/positivespadewonder · 1 pointr/tretinoin

Woops sorry, I meant Eucerin Baby Eczema Body Cream

And the adult version, which only differs in packaging

u/Duraz0rz · 1 pointr/eczema

I only really used it once, but it was ok. I started using Eucerin Eczema Relief creme for my bad areas (chin, mainly). The first time I tried it, it was like heaven for my skin. I need multiple applications for the itch to go away for the most part, but it's pretty much the only thing that's given my chin itch relief lately.

Hmmm, let's see how close I can get:

u/steady_as_she_rides · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I'm a big fan of Egyptian Magic. I layer this on after Retin-A and it keeps away the flakeys, and it doesn't break me out. It feels like layering on a thick, less messy oil.

u/_totallysafeforwork · 1 pointr/blackbeauty

Ive started using whipped shea butter with tea tree oil and it's worked wonders for my acne. Shea butter is extremely moisturizing and has a comedogenic rating of 0, meaning it does not clog pores. The tea tree oil is a great additive due to it's anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties which helps clear and prevent acne. You can add other good stuff to it as well like rose oil or vitamin E.

First I mix the shea butter with my regular hand mixer until its smooth and fluffy. Then I measure about 6oz of the whip and add in 10mL of 100% tea tree oil (about 1 little bottle). I only use this at night as it doesn't fare well under foundation.

During the day I use Gold Bond Strength & Resilience. It doesn't 'eradicate' pimples but it makes my skin smoother and keeps me moisturized without being hella oily.

For my severe breakouts I use 50/50 AmLactin and benzoyl peroxide cream as an overnight treatment. I dont recommend this because the benzoyl peroxide has the potential to exacerbate acne scars

Amazon. Some links below for ideas. I've purchased all of them, and haven't had any problems with them thus far. Essential oils just search for - obviously that's where part of the experimentation comes in. I use a mix of Frankincense, Amber, Cade (SUPER STRONG SMELL!!! very smoky), Black pepper, and sometimes Sandalwood. You can probably go to a Whole Foods - or similar - and find some essential oils to smell to get ideas too.

May I suggest adding some lotions or skincare products made with hemp seed oil (like this, for example) for extra giggles? :P

I use a body lotion that contains lactic acid. I've had eczema since I was 8 (30 now) and it is the only thing that's ever worked for me. I discovered it three winters ago and my symptoms have been super manageable. I was using Disrobe by Sunday Riley but it's been discontinued. I'm hoping when my bottle runs out that I can find another one with the same effect. This one has a lot of positive reviews on Amazon for helping with eczema and I think it will be the first one I try. Hope this helps!

Of course. Carbon steel knives will leave traces of iron behind, same as using a cast-iron pan will. Sometimes you can taste it, but usually you can't. It's iron, and its the same iron that comes in vitamin pills, it's actually good for you, and it is quite safe to eat.

If you put oil on the blade, you'll want to use mineral oil - it's available is a food safe grade, and a $6 bottle of it will last three lifetimes. It's odorless, colorless, tasteless, and you can literally drink the stuff:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B2RG1C/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's also the same as most ordinary gun oils, too. Works great on guns, door hinges, fishing reels, and just about everything else.

You could try some magnesium oil. Rub some on your lower back by your kidneys before going to bed. This would help with Adrenalin fatigue and get a better nights sleep. That would improved your mood and low energy.

u/Pain_Austen · 0 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I have the same type of eczema on my legs that usually only flares up in the summer... when I actually want to shave! Like /u/fueledbypretzels I've tried all sorts of sensitive skin shaving creams, but they just make my eczema worse. So I just use bar soap, the same that I use for the rest of me, Dove Sensitive Skin Unscented Beauty Bar. I usually get Venus razors that have three blades - nothing fancy. You can get a pretty good lather with the soap, and as long as you have a sharp razor it's fine. Then I follow up with Eucerin Eczema Relief lotion. Kind of a low-tech shaving method, but it works!! If my flare-ups are especially bad I usually skip shaving over them and have weird patches of hair, but I don't really care about that. Otherwise I am just very careful.

Try spraying yourself with magnesium chloride. I personally use Ancient Minerals' brand of MgCl and it works great for recovery and sleep.
