I could've got karma for these scissors? Damn. I didn't think they were that special, they're like less than $10 at hobby lobby.

Edit 2: The guide is available here

-----------

I made these token mini's as an alternative to buying miniatures. They're significantly cheaper and can be made in 0.5", 1", 2", 3" sizes and cost very little (1" and 2" shown).

If enough people are interested, I'd be happy to create a DIY post or video.

Edit: I created a MS Word template (link) for 1", 2", 3", and 4" tokens for anyone that doesn't want to wait until I post my guide.

  • Find a picture of the creature you're interested in using and import into word.
  • When you select the picture, the top-right should have a layout option - click on it.
  • Select the "Behind Text" option beneath With Text Wrapping and select the radio button next to "Fix Position on Page".
  • Resize your image using a corner handle and position it within the appropriate sized circle.
  • Repeat for additional images.
  • Save the pages you want to print as a PDF and have them printed on cardstock.

I use wooden circles as the base - they're available on Amazon in 1", 2" and 3" sizes; /u/ScoutManDan suggested MDF discs.

The tops are epoxy stickers - they're also available on Amazon in various sizes.

When it comes to assembly, this is the order I use:

  • Apply epoxy sticker
  • Cut out token (I use Fiskars RazorEdge MicroTip Shears but you can also use a circular paper punch)
  • Apply KrazyGlue to back of token and press to wooden disk

This tape doesn't use adhesive, but sticks to itself without constricting your cards any more than it needs to keep them grouped together. It can be repeatedly unstuck and restuck together.

Regarding sleeving, totally do it for every game. Most of the time it's <$7 overhead and almost no overhead over MSRP if you buy from somewhere like CSI.

u/McMadface · 8 pointsr/headphones

There's this adhesive called Joe's Sticky Stuff that would work great for attaching your DACamp to your phone with or without a case. It's like the Russian Olympian version of the adhesive they use to stick credit cards to paper. You only really need an inch of it or so and it comes off cleanly when you want to remove it. It's reusable as long as you keep it clean when both sides are not stuck together.

u/rain_b · 8 pointsr/bulletjournal

You can find that exact tape here or here, it also tells you the length of the roll which is 4 meters. An A5 size paper is 210 mm on the long side so you could line 19 pages on the long side with a roll of the tape.

We wanted to do candles in wine bottles for our centerpiece but our venue won't let us do uncovered flames. As a workaround we decided to go with something like this where the candles are inside the bottle.

Of course this meant cutting the bottoms off of nearly 100 bottles, which meant exploiting our friends for free labor hours of work delabling, washing, scoring, and cutting the bottles.

The whole process was pretty smooth, but pretty labor intensive. The scorer worked like a charm but it takes a bit of practice to get a straight score. Still we did lose about 12 bottles but we had plenty of extras as we've been begging our friends and families for all their discarded wine bottles for the last year.

If this is something you're interested in for your wedding here are the tools we used:

https://www.amazon.com/AGPtek-Bottle-Machine-Cutting-Bottles/dp/B0155WMTGU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1475268871&sr=8-3&keywords=bottle+cutter

The one in the second link works slightly better but they were both decent. Basically all you have to do is score the bottle ONCE around in a straight line, then dunk it in hot near boiling water then ice water back and forth. After a dunk or two it splits right along the line.

going DIY is the way to go. I've heard this from the pros as well. There just isn't the selection of dance specific shoes. The pair I bought most recently was from ALDO There called Aauwen-R Dark Grey, then I just went on amazon and got some stick on suede. The only problem I have found so far with this was that I stuck them on and it immediately slid like a 1/4 inch. Which isn't much but that's 1/4 without suede on the outside edge. I think I just should have walked around to let them dry. I immediately went down to dance at a dance event. So probably user error.

Blue or Pink insulation board foam you can get at Home Depot (pink) or Lowes (blue) works a treat for it!

Groundcover can be as simple as painting the top of it whatever color you like, or a vinyl mat that has ground cover foam glued to it in a variety of green colors, or painting it and then gluing the ground foam on the foam directly.

Whichever strikes your fancy!

https://www.amazon.com/Owens-Corning-Pink-Insulation-Thick/dp/B074VPZ8SS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1542069959&sr=8-1&keywords=foamular

I Cut the bottom off of 50+ wine bottles for wedding table decorations. The best method we came up with was using a glass cutting tool here

We tried a blow torch to heat the cut and it dip it into an ice bath. It was ok. What worked best was low boiling water and an ice bath. Place the bottle in up to the cut and then dip into water. Gave a nice clean break. The cut doesn't need to be deep at all. The shallow cuts broke better because we didn't put as many micro cracks into the glass.

u/SandyQuilter · 3 pointsr/quilting

Hmmmmm. If you have enough of the purple, I think you might want to do it again, but this time with a pair of super sharp "nippers." I have a pair of Fiskars https://smile.amazon.com/Fiskars-190500-RazorEdge-Micro-Tip-Action/dp/B00UY11IFG/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1541026478&sr=8-17&keywords=fiskars+scissors and I absolutely love them. The spring action means your hands don't get tired because they open themselves up. They are really sharp and pointy and let you get right in there on all the little fussy parts.

Looking at your crown area again, you might not have to start all over; just get the nippers and clean everything up and see what you think. However, the fray check might still be super visible (and it usually stays pretty stiff) so you might want to practice using the nippers on this piece and then make another one?

I've been playing it for about 5 years now? I really do love the game and I know i'll be playing it for a long time to come. Even if I didn't, I would still love to take on the project, just for the sake of getting into woodworking.

I was looking at this kit on amazon, I thought I would be able to very carefully use a chisel on most of the board, but I'm just not sure. It does say it comes with routers, but I don't see if they specify the size.

This needs to be higher up. While no doubt anyone can get good cut with a hobby knife or box cutter after some practice, getting the right tool is the best way to ensure even a novice gets nice clean cuts. FoamWerks tools are the Rolls Royce of foam cutting, but even a simple tool like this $8 xacto board cutter will greatly improve your cuts and will allow you to make easy tongue and groove joints. Here's a video tutorial on how to use the board cutter.

Halloween Makeup $5.90 and KittyToy Add on $3.59 and A Fair Lady $15.34 from the list

u/PigPride · 2 pointsr/longrange

I had pluck foamin my hard case.

Works really well to get an approximate fit, but is fragile. I used a few cans of spray-on plasti-dip to solidify the shape of the cutout. Resisted deformation, heat damage, and kept everything rock solid.

As mentioned by u/RowdyKraken I tossed it to increase the utility of my case. I can hold more equipment and firearms if necessary.

If you have dedicated cases, that pluck foam with spray-on should really hold things in place. And you can do colors and make it look cool, which is rule no. 1...

FYI: I sent you lots of amazon links as I am not sure where you live or if you have access to craft stores such as Hobby Lobby or Joann Fabrics. I know for certain that I have seen most of these items cheaper at the store than what I could find online.

  1. Embroidery scissors. The good ones (I.e. generally not ones that come in sewing kits) are incredibly sharp and a must. They are used exclusively for cutting embroidery floss. They make some really pretty ones that come in all sorts of colors and patterns.
  2. A hoop or two. I personally prefer the plastic ones as they are a bit more durable and good for multiple projects. I also don't typically display my finished work inside the hoop. If she plans on making wall hangings, I would go with the wooden ones. They are typically a bit cheaper when you buy them at a craft store (I believe I have seen them from between 1-3 USD.) They have a nicer finished look and isn't that big of a deal to buy a new one when you start on your next project. I would buy her two of the wooden ones in two different sizes (a 4 inch and 6 inch one)
  3. a box for embroidery thread. this one on Amazon that I listed is nice since it also contains the bobbins as well. These boxes usually cost about 3 USD at the craft store and are great for holding all of your different colors of embroidery floss. they often have one larger compartment which is perfectly sized to hold needles and the embroidery scissors as well. The floss bobbins are great at keeping everything organized in the box as well.
  4. about a yard of fabric. Muslin is generally pretty cheap. For a beginner, I might also suggest Aida cloth. It it woven in a way that there is a "grid" in the cloth which makes it easier to make straight lines. It is typically used for Cross Stitch but can be used for embroidery as well. The cloth is more expensive that the muslin, and I personally don't prefer the finished look of the fabric, but it makes it easy to make straight lines and practice stitches. Someone on here also mentioned buying Fabric quarters which is a great idea. They come in a whole bunch of designs, run around 2 USD a piece, and work pretty well for embroidery.
  5. Needles. You don't need the golden eye ones like I have listed here. Just make sure that the package says it's for embroidery as the of the needle varies depending on the type.
  6. Now here's the hardest part of the whole thing: Embroidery floss. Most stores offer DMC brand cotton floss by the skein for about 0.48 USD. The problem is that there are literally hundreds of different colors and picking out just a few might be a bit difficult. The sets that DMC does sell are a bit pricey and aren't often set up to give you a beginner's set of colors. You could however buy an off brand set of embroidery floss that does come in a nice variety of colors and is cheaper. However, I have found that a lot of these packs have low quality thread. It often can look dull when compared to DMC brand floss. (look how Satin-y this Flower looks with the more expensive floss!) I have also heard of some people say that the colors can run when they get washed. All that said, these packs are inexpensive and great for someone just starting with embroidery as there are so many colors to choose from. Its great when you are practicing or are not 100% sure of what you are going to make yet.
  7. transfer pen: I bought a set of those Frixion Pens that someone else mentioned in this post and I love them. They are a bit pricey. I believe that I bought my set at Target for 6 bucks. It came with 5 different colors including pink and silver which work great on dark colored fabrics. These pens are used to plan out your design on your fabric before you embroider. These pens are special in that they disappear completely with heat (such as an iron). If you don't want to go that route, they also make Water soluble markers which serve the same purpose. They don't work quite as well in my opinion as they tend to erase themselves after a few hours/days. They have the advantage of being inexpensive and work fine for small projects.

I hope that all of this helps. Good luck on the shopping. I know that whatever you end up getting her she will love.

Very nice.
I am currently working on some foamcore storage for TI3 as well. Basing mine off of a post on BGG from a guy using chitboard/cardstock.

To aid in 45 degree cuts, take a peek at this: Amazon linky

Thank you for the link. I do like how you cut the box size down. Very well executed.

on a side note, you might take a look at a Hobby Lobby if you have one near you. Usually, the foamboard is beside the framing section (at least at the 4 in my city they are, I assume they use a similar floor plan at each store) Well, there are some vertical storage bins that contain thick matboard, mostly used for framing. At my locations they have large sheets of 3mm foamboard (about HALF the size of the traditional foamboard) which is REALLY nice to work with.
I'll admit, two problems are they only come in LARGE boards (which I usually cut down when I get home for storage and so it doesn't warp) and that I have only seen it in white with white core.

I am a fan of the black/black core myself, but am learning to like this thin/white FB as it allows me a little more room when it comes to designing inserts. (as sometimes that 2mm difference is HUGE)

Hmm... this does look like the same backing material that is used on the replacement soles u/wanderedoff recommended on the post in r/shoemaking. Those soles do look to be suede.

The same company that sells the adhesive has whole suede sheets with the backing material already applied. This may be your best bet if you are looking to be able to cut to size instead of using the precut pieces.

Scarlet the arctic fox was different from the rest of the arctic foxes. All her friends liked romping in the crunchy snow, while she preferred curling up in her warm den. Everyone else liked playing hide and seek, which she was never very good at. One day, Scarlet wandered far from her den, further than any of the other foxes have ever been before. At least that's what she wants to believe. She went so far that she discovered trees with different shaped leaves, squishy moss and leaf litter, and babbling brooks that weren't partially frozen. Best of all, it was warm! Scarlet was so excited that she didn't even notice another creature nearby--a red fox. At first Scarlet was scared, but then she noticed the fox was just like her, must differently colored. The differently colored fox invited Scarlet to come play with some of his friends. They spent the rest of the day chasing squirrels and voles, romping in the leaf litter, and chasing each other around trees in games of tag. Scarlet soon had to return home, but promised her new friends she would come back and visit, and they promised to come visit this strange place--to them, at least--where foxes were white instead of red and it was cold and snowy most of the time. That night, Scarlet curled up in her warm den and dreamt of trees with differently shaped leaves, squirrels, and red foxes.

I desire this for non-zebra related Halloween purposes.

I also had trouble getting used to the plasticky palmrest on my T430s. So I bought some peel-and-stick suede and cut out some patches for my palmrest: It feels amazing.

The screen still latches on my T430s, but your T440 doesn't have a screen latch anyway. It doesn't look that weird having patches of suede on the palm rest, and the feel far outweighs cosmetic concerns for me. I'm not sure how it will fare as far as keeping it clean over time, we'll have to see. But the price was right for this experiment.

I know of quite a few cases but nothing that will fit all that. I think you're going to need to make your own.

With all the stuff you want to carry you could use a suitcase as the actual case to put the foam and stuff inside.

You can buy foam to make the inner of a case. The foam is cubed so you can pluck it out to make the shapes you need.
