Hi all, thanks for liking my apartment! Here are some additional details to answer some common questions!

Here are some more photos:
https://imgur.com/a/9efb92V

Yes my bed (almost) touches three walls. No I don’t have a dresser. Most of my storage is under the couch.

My rent is $1850/month. I’ve been there going on three years, it’s gone up $50, yes I know that can afford a small castle in most places

Here is the switch dock mounted below the TV (with command hooks):

That is a plaster wall without studs, I hung the tv with this guy and it’s very stable:

I made the coffee table:

The adjustable standing desk is a Varidesk Prodesk 36. It’s overpriced but unique in that it’s a 2’x3’ as opposed to 3’x4’:

The table and chairs (as well as the couch and rug) are from IKEA:

while they are expensive, you could also get a pull down mount, if its mounted somewhere high like above a fireplace. When not in use, you can put it back into its "high" position and when you want to use it at eye level, you can pull it down... something like this

I have my TV over the fire place. It's the only logical place it could be mounted in my house. I bought one of these mounts:

https://www.amazon.com/MantelMount-MM340-Above-Fireplace-Mount/dp/B01MS1MHET

I love it. It works very well and was easy to install.

shameless plug. This is the in-wall mount we sell on Amazon for the echo Dot.

u/MiguelPeligro · 14 pointsr/homeautomation

Completed my 2 week project and dove in a little deeper than I initially planned!

Before I get into it, I want to thank everyone on this sub for guiding me in the right direction on this project. I’ve never done any sort of electrical or wall mounting work before, so thank you to everyone who chimed it with advice.

So let’s get to it!

This all started when my mom got an Echo for Christmas and was using it as nothing more than a Bluetooth speaker. I already had my HomeKit enabled Philips Hue and Harmony Hub (with homebridge) setup, but I figured I could use it more than her, so she gave it to me.

Fast forward to u/Curney posting his in wall Echo Dot mounts. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072TLJQK1?psc=1
I decided that since Prime day was coming, it was time to go big or go home. My mother had an old home intercom system that was failing fast, so I decided to dive in.

First I bought the dots on prime day and the mounts soon after. Knowing nothing about electricity, I disconnected the wires from the bedroom wall units and tried to find out how power ran through them. I then decided to unplug the master unit, leaving me with just a rough in outlet. I cut a USB cable in half, spliced the 4 wires into the 4 wires already in the wall, plugged the top half upstairs into the rough in, used the in wall wiring for the system to carry the load, and plugged the echo in on the other end. The echo dot mount gave me great instructions to buy the correct size saw, and the mount popped right in and the wires were hidden neatly behind. I HIGHLY recommend the mount... I’ll find a link to Amazon if anyone wants. Anyway, to my surprise it actually worked, but only in one room; The master bedroom was too far away it seemed. I used an old android phone with an amperage meter app, and measure a strong start at 750mA, and then a drop to 40mA. No wonder the echo kept turning off... So I educated myself. I asked friends, contractors, old guys at the hardware store (which I’d worked at for 5 years), anyone who would listen. I wanted to do this right.
I got to work removing the old metal mounts that held the intercoms in, which was a giant pain in the ass. Once I got those out, I did some drywall repair with some furring strips that would make Ron Swanson proud. I’d never done ANY of this before, so it was a lot of fun learning along the way.
I then decided to hell with this fire hazard wiring, lets do this right. I watched YouTube videos on installing an outlet next to an existing switch, and instead of right next to the wall switch, I ran the outlet about a foot away with some romex. I figured if I’m doing this, what the hell, go big (and ridiculous) or go home. I bought a box that was made for recessed outlets for Flat Screen mounts, and replaced the included outlet with a 3.1 amp USB outlet. I did all the wiring right, and about shit my pants when I plugged in the echo and it worked. There was a reason, as you can see, that I decided on this certain size of box; it was perfect for an iPad mini. Naturally, the only iPad mini my mother had was the first gen which doesn’t have HomeKit capabilities, so it was off to craigslist and the pawn shops. I picked up 2 cellular capable iPad mini 2’s for around about $125 each, quite a deal. From there I needed to figure out the best way to get power to them and to mount them handsomely. I checked out some dash mount systems on Amazon, along with a flipped lightning charger as seen in the picture. I also picked up some clear shells for the iPads at walmart for $5 each.

Sorry for the scatter brain post. I JUST got one (of two) completed. The starting pictures are of the downstairs, the finished ones are upstairs. I’m still waiting on primer to dry downstairs. Then just painting and installing.

If anyone has any questions, I’ll help as much as I can. I started out planning to spend about $200... ended up all in for about $650 but couldn’t be happier with the results!

No. You connect an extension cord to it, and it runs inside the wall to an outlet. Two things you need to do ASAP:

Order a MantelMount so you can pull down the TV to a proper viewing angle. Order a shelf for underneath the TV for your center channel.

MantelMount

Center Channel Mount

The shelf mounts to the bottom of your MantelMount. Make sure you get the one with 2 shelves so the bracket is long enough to give you the space underneath your TV.

u/000Destruct0 · 7 pointsr/hometheater

I bought this: https://smile.amazon.com/Designs2Go-Small-Monitor-Riser-Black/dp/B00FU3ZLZG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1479839308&sr=8-2&keywords=tabletop+shelf get two of them and place at either end.

Your center channel really needs to be directly under the TV in order to create the illusion that the sound is coming from the image.

u/zzzpoohzzz · 7 pointsr/malelivingspace

Put somewhat tall plants on each side, put the wires hanging down in the wall. I used these for that. Since you seem to be going greyish, get something black/white/grey to go underneath the tv. Don't worry about a table next to it unless you have some lamp you want to use in the corner.

u/Roderrooder · 7 pointsr/watercooling

I did put some basic rubber washers between the pump and the mounts but what you linked me is definitely worth a try if it will quite them down.

Also the mounts are actually basic speaker mounts mounted to TV mounts, no one makes good speaker wall mounts unfortunately.

I think used these:

My Recently completed basement. Mostly used as a home theater for my wife and I but also for occasional parties. Equipment list is below. Due to budget constraints, I had to re-use a lot of my old equipment, but I did purchase the projector, screen, mount, and ceiling speakers. Next upgrade is a new subwoofer, but that probably will not happen for a while. I have a set of bose surrounds that I plan to use as rears eventually, and to switch the in-ceiling over to be Atmos speakers. Sorry for the not great pics, I'm not that great with cameras. I know everyone hates Bose, but considering they were free from my parents a few years ago, they sound pretty decent.

u/AmusedPoptart · 6 pointsr/homelab

PG&E starts at 11ish cents at the base tier and goes up to 41 cents at the highest based on how much you consume in a month. I don't really feel I use that much electricity, but it seems I do no matter how much darkness I live in (even with LED bulbs!).

I use https://www.amazon.com/Startech-19-Inch-Vertical-Mountable-Server/dp/B001YI0V7O

Have to have studs to mount it. Or at least a reallly sturdy wall.

u/Saman239 · 5 pointsr/vinyl

I'm using B-Tech BT77

u/GbMaxSE · 5 pointsr/hometheater

The Andrew Jones Sp-c22 is actually notably a crappy center speaker, lol. If it sounds good to you, then great.

This stand mount comes highly recommended

u/tomgabriele · 5 pointsr/DesignMyRoom

What do you think about putting the TV over the fireplace on a pull-down mount so you can watch at a normal height most of the time, with the option to raise it up safely out of the way if you want to have a fire.

Or just have it on a TV stand right in front of the fireplace that you could move out of the way if you really wanted to have a fire?

Having the TV on that wall does seem to be the most logical place for it.

We use the Peerless AV PRG-UNV where I work. We have over 120 projectors installed. The mounts are great to work with. You may only need to interact with it once every few years, but when you do, you don't want to have to fight it.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000TXNS6G

For power, put a outlet in the ceiling if you know how, or call an electrician. Running extension cords in the wall or drop ceiling is a big no-no.

50' HDMI, I would start with an active HDMI cable, especially if you are doing 1080p. Something like Monoprices Redemere series, or similar. If there is cat6 already installed conveniently, then an HDBaseT solution would be nice as well.

The main monitor is an HP 24wd, secondary on top is a Dell SP2309W, and the third in portrait is an Asus MW221. They're all old and I wish they were IPS, but they do the job good enough.

The mount for the secondary monitor is this one and the mount for the portrait monitor is this one. They're pretty damn good in terms of sturdiness and reliability.

u/dotbat · 3 pointsr/sysadmin

I've done this in a similar situation and it's worked out great. I used one of these and mounted something like a Dell R510.

I agree with others, wait. I measured the TV after it arrived and determined the right height based on the measurements. Guessing based on a spec is not practical.

My 65B7A is mounted to the wall with this:

It works great and pulls out over a foot from the wall.

The only limitation is it must be screw mounted into a stud.

Some thoughts:

  • Light and comfortable movable chairs
  • Some way to protect the tv from VR punches. Either mount it high, get a mount that moves up/down (Mount-It! Fireplace TV Mount, Full Motion Pull Down Mantel TV Mounting Bracket with Height Adjustment, Fits 40-65 Inch TVs, 70 lbs Capacity https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0767YJDLT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_WRRtDb7FNGF7W) or put a piece of furniture in front
  • Some have a circular carpet so you can index that you are in the middle of the room
u/agray20938 · 2 pointsr/hometheater

Yeah, there are tons. Just make sure it's one that fits your projector (they have lists of compatible projectors), and one that reaches down long enough for you to get a perfect picture.

You don't need a pitch/yaw function, even less than you'd need lens shift on a projector. If you're ceiling mounting it, just make sure it's lined up perfectly and at the right height, and you should have no need to ever move it from there, and thus no need to ever use pitch/yaw.

Check this one out. it's pretty popular: http://smile.amazon.com/Peerless-PRGS-UNV-Precision-Universal-Projector/dp/B000TXNS6G/ref=sr_1_20?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1462456827&sr=1-20&keywords=projector+ceiling+mount

It's got an attachable arm to make it longer if need be. But, if you're paying for installation, the guy might be right, and getting that $150 mount might end up being cheaper, or close to the price, and you'd have a higher quality mount now too.

u/Trindle · 2 pointsr/hometheater

I just mounted a projector and this is the mount I used:

http://amazon.com/Peerless-PRGUNV-Precision-Universal-Projector/dp/B000TXNS6G/ref=pd_sim_e_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=13ENAJESQ9FWDCRRWBVQ

It has a similar configuration and I used two lag bolts, which is overkill really. A projector isn't that heavy. In short, just use the two that hit the stud.

u/Legogeek14 · 2 pointsr/pcmods

I as thinking about this the other day, actually. I though that the biggest issue with attaching a monitor the the side panel wound be that the panel is just a sheet of steel with some reinforcement around the edges, so it would probable bend. I think that the best way to attach a mound would be the the metal on the back of the case. Also, here's a mount I found: http://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-Adjustable-Rotation-Bracket-Monitor/dp/B0016CDE0E/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417700349&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=VideoSecu+Adjustable+Tilt+Swivel+Rotation+TV+Wall+Mount+Bracket+for+LCD+LED+TV+and+Monitor+%28Max+44+lbs%2C+VESA+100%2F75%29+Black+1FF+https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fdp%2FB0016CDE0E%2Fref%3Dcm_sw_r_awd_fogGub1CMC55H (mobile sorry)

Hey OP if you scoot that desk over I bet you've got plenty of room for a vertical 19" rack like this. Then you could get that server off the floor.

u/saggybolsack · 2 pointsr/networking

It's tough because whatever you do seems to just work. Because it's difficult to put a price tag on the cost of bad facility, rack and cable management, it's very hard to fix.

You need to make a proposal with a strong problem statement illustrated with pictures and citing past incidents if you can. Check out standards like the TIA-942 standard for items to audit. You need to ask questions like :

  • Are devices attached or could they fall to the ground ?
  • Are devices powered by a secured power source, what happens if it fails ?
  • Are devices properly identified with labels ? Can I describe to someone where to find them ?
  • Are every device and component serviceable without disconnecting something else ?
  • Is the cabling manageable ? Can I easily trace and replace a single cable ?
  • Are the device properly cooled and the air intakes and exhaust unobstructed ?

Your proposal should offer a solution for all of these problems. A trick would be to offer an expensive one as a decoy and a cheaper one :

  • Quote a wall mounted or open frame rack instead of cabinets for the switches and patch panels.

  • Could you fit the existing servers in a 2 post rack with brackets or do you need a 4 posts one ?

  • Check out rack-up velcro wraps and lacing panels instead of better but expensive cable management accessories.

Good luck fighting the good fight.

Edit : I have never used them but there are server vertical wall mount kits you could use as an alternative to 4 post racks. They probably wouldn't work with stuff like heavy SANs and UPS but should be ok for smaller servers.
u/ensum · 2 pointsr/homelab

I can’t vouch for that one specifically, but Startech makes good stuff. Per the comments, that thing holds 125lbs or so, and an R710 is nowhere near that.

That thing is 2U, as is the R710 and R510. The R610 is 1U, so you could put two in there if you wanted.

VESA mounts for pivoting computer monitors will do that

like this

u/thetonyk123 · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

I'm assuming you have drywall with wood studs. All you really need is the wall mount, a drill, and a stud finder. A pencil would be useful aswell for marking stuff out.

You'll need to locate your wall studs. You can do this using a basic stud finder. Use the stud finder to locate and mark a stud close to where you want the screen to be. You might not get it exactly where you want it because studs are only placed every so often, 16" on center is common. Then after your sure a stud is there (I always knock on the wall and listen to double check) you can start to mount it. You'll need to buy the actual mount. I use this basic wall mount for one of my screens and it is quite adjustable. Align the wall mount along the stud to where you want it then drill pilot holes for the screws. After you drill the pilot holes just screw the mount in. Try pulling on it a bit just to make sure its stable and secured into the stud. Then (if you bought the mount I linked) you just screw the plate into the back of your monitor and slide it in. If all goes well it should be mounted solidly to the wall.

Highly recommend buying bed risers and stuffing as much stuff under your bed as possible. Wall mount your TV if you can, rather than using a TV stand. This mount doesn't even require using your wall's studs. Don't ever utter the word knick-knacks again - get rid of them! Get rid of as much crap as possible. The more you minimize the more natural it feels.

Mac OS X, running on the latest MBPro and wired into the monitor via USB-C. The monitor itself has USB, so I ran a USB hub into that, through the wall, and underneath my desk for any peripherals.

I suggest this for hidden wiring!

https://www.amazon.com/PowerBridge-ONE-PRO-6-Single-Outlet-Professional-Wall-Mounted/dp/B00HIYAFR4?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_4

u/jezterr · 2 pointsr/hometheater

Sadly, I didn't get pictures while I was installing. It wasn't too bad, though. Used this to wire through the wall and down next to an outlet below the tv. The Powerbridge helps keep everything to code for if we ever move out.

Behind the media console is pretty tidy, thanks to the cabinet's cable management (runs along the back near the top with ventilation). Only one cubby is dedicated to all the power strips/modem/router for the entire setup.

The worst part was probably the knot in my stomach right before I stabbed the drywall in our new house. I also took the rule of "measure twice, cut once" and modified it to "measure a thousand times..."

u/peckrob · 2 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Most of my small upgrades are already mentioned here, but I'll add one more: wall mounting your flat-screen TVs. The difference in how a properly wall-mounted TV with all the cables hidden looks vs. one just sitting on a shelf is incredible. We originally did it for safety reasons (having a toddler in the house) but I eventually ended up wall-mounting every TV in the house because it looked so good.

It would be a little bit cheaper to do it your way. But like everyone is saying, just do it right and do it to code.

I used this Power Bridge kit, which you can also get from Home Depot.

Works great, looks great, sleep at night.

I got a tv mount off of amazon last year for my grandma's small tv that was screwed in vertically with 2 lag bolts. It claims it can hold up to 55" @ 60 lbs. Personally I would want a mount that attaches to 2 studs for something bigger, which is something I plan on doing with my 65" TV soon.

What I used for my grandma:

Go on Amazon, type in the kind of wall mount you're looking for "full motion, tilt, or slim" and the size TV (Small, medium, large) and buy a new one. Make sure the VESA size of the mount matches or exceeds that of your TV. You can find this out by measuring the bolts from end to end on the back, or by looking up specs online.

The new mount will not only come with all new hardware, but should run you between $12 and $40 depending what you're looking for. I bought this one on Amazon for $29, it's full motion and I could mount it to allow my 46" TV to come out a full 90 degrees from the wall.

u/fgben · 2 pointsr/DIY

What model monitor? Most 24" monitors should have them (if they conform to VESA standards for mounting interfaces -- ASUS is usually pretty good about that kind of thing). Sometimes they're hidden behind the desktop mount attachment?

If not, then there's stuff like these adapter kits: http://www.amazon.com/Adaptor-most-Non-VESA-screens-003-0023/dp/B00QVRTUQ6.

3.) Replace the cabinet legs with shorter legs, maybe some IKEA legs if you can't find something similar to the current legs, or just rest the cabinet on the floor with 8 rubber or felt floor protectors. Then your center speaker on top, then wall mount the TV or use a Universal TV Tabletop Stand or Floor TV Stand behind the cabinet without the shelf.

u/Armsc · 2 pointsr/hometheater

Here are some thoughts

  1. Upgrading the front three should make a noticeable difference. You should keep them to the same series so no mix and match, get a matched set.

  2. You should look at getting a TV stand $20 or a TV base $45 to get the TV up enough to put a real center channel there.

  3. I would get stands for the front to get them out and up to near ear level. Put them next to the TV vs having them on the TV console. It will sound so much better and they won't obstruct the screen.

  4. I like the Cambridge idea quite a lot. There are other options but this seems like the best for the budget you set. If you needed to save a bit for the stands and TV base you could go with Micca MB42x/Center or the Pioneer BS-22/center combo but I think the Cambridge would probably do better.

u/1leggeddog · 2 pointsr/gaming

alright fair enough.

you could also consider a floor stand that you put behind your desk like this :

u/sLpFhaWK · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Wall mounts you're asking specifically about right? Ones that screw into a stud?

TV's weigh more than this monitor, there is plenty of mounts that will work with the Asus, I have mine on an Ergotron Desk mount and it's fine. Without the stand is the weight you're concerned about and I think its like 17-19 lbs.

use this one and you'll be fine.

u/jsamhead · 2 pointsr/battlestations

That's true. That would be a good solution. I'd also consider mounting the monitor to the wall using something very similar like this. You could even do the same thing on the opposite side of the window with a second monitor and have 2 nice big monitors that can move together or apart, all across your desk space.

General rule of thumb is that standard speakers will significantly outperform a soundbar solution of the same price. You'd want to pick front-ported speakers because they'll be jammed against the wall though.

However...

Strongly consider something like this so that you can swing the TV down to a reasonable eye level. Some models have soundbar mounts, or are compatible with add-on soundbar mounts. I'd rather have one of these and use the TV's stock speakers than strain my neck looking at a TV seven feet in the air.

u/lightinthedark · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

There are pull down mounts for mantles if you do want to change it.

Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MS1MHET/

u/ArizonaLad · 2 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Get a weight on the TV. Lets say 35 pounds, for instance. Then decide on what mount you want. I am going to suggest a MantleMount:

https://www.amazon.com/MantelMount-MM340-Standard-Bracket-Fireplace/dp/B01MS1MHET

That will fit up to an 80" TV, so you're good there.

Next is the screwing it to the wood. The max those studs can be separated from edge to edge is 20". See the installatin manual here:

http://www.electricfireplacesdirect.com/pdfs/MM340_Installation_Manual.pdf

Because the two orange painted uprights look like 1 X 4's, I do not think that lag bolts would have enough bite into the wood. If it was my installation I would drill completely through the wood and use toggle bolts:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Crown-Bolt-3-16-in-x-2-in-Zinc-Plated-Mushroom-Head-Toggle-Bolt-Anchor-15-Piece-10282/202563869

Alternatively, is that a closet on the back side of the fireplace? If so, you could add additional bracing in the wall from the rear.

NOTE: The MantleMount I linked to is the entry level one. If your TV requires a soundbar, then you'd want this version:

https://www.amazon.com/MantelMount-MM540-Mount-Fireplace-Mantel/dp/B01N5JMX8G

Hope that helps you.

u/bojanglingus · 2 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Any number of directions you could go with a major renovation, but I would suggest a minor renovation and put the savings elsewhere.

As for the minor renovation, I would paint behind the the tv to color match the columns (make it all look like one piece), then add an articulating tv mount such as this. Also, look to move that cable box (maybe mount it behind the TV or in the cabinet beside) and get an IR repeater or RF remote.

u/sk9592 · 2 pointsr/hometheater

If you are mounting a TV above the fireplace, do yourself a favor and get a pull down TV mount. That way you can watch your TV at a reasonable height and not have to constantly look up at it:

As a follow-up, do you have any advice for mounting that projector to a ceiling? What I have to go on right now is that Amazon is telling me that customers who bought that projector also bought this mount...

https://www.amazon.com/Peerless-PRGUNV-Precision-Universal-Projector/dp/B000TXNS6G/

u/eh_fuck_it1980 · 1 pointr/hometheater

Ok, no no on the fan attachment idea. Let's go with in front of the fan.

What about one of these mounts, they claim to be easily detachable?

http://www.amazon.com/Peerless-PRGUNV-Precision-Universal-Projector/dp/B000TXNS6G

http://www.vogels.com/vpc-545-projector-ceiling-mount.html#.VKD7dl4AKA

When not in use, I could easily disconnect the projector.

Or what about something like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7Umo_4DPQc

Look at 00:58. Easily removable.

That's just part one obviously because I need the projector to be lowered when in use...

What if I built/purchased some sort of adjustable pole that went into the ceiling, and attached the mount to this pole? There doesn't seem to be a mount that is easily detachable + adjustable.

------------------------------------------------

All that being said, I'm open to new options, if they'll fit my needs. My fear with going with a projector that isn't short throw and mounting it on say, the back wall of my room, is I don't think I'd be able to sit as close to the screen as I would want, because the projected image would... hit me, wouldn't it? It would have to be 20 inches from the ceiling to start with to clear the fan, but the projected light would also have to clear me in my chair, which reaches 47 inches from the floor. To create a 100 inch image, I don't know if it could fit in that small a window. I opted for short throw so I could sit right under it basically, and sit fairly close. I know sitting close is not recommended and maybe I'll scoot back a few more feet but, I like sitting close, like within 6 feet. This is my bedroom.

I don't want to put it on a table just because I would hate seeing it when I'm watching a movie, I would rather it be out of sight.

But I really think one of those detachable mounts+a home made adjustable pole could work in theory. Yes I'll lose my fan while watching movies but at least I'll have it when I'm not.

I do this same exact thing on a monthly basis. I have a theater in the basement with speakers behind the main screen and I have a ceiling mount for my epson 3020 that allows removal with one screw. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TXNS6G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

I also have a table set up outside with marks indicating where to place the projector and have a pull down screen outside. Depending on how much of a HT snob you become (I'm real bad) you may not be happy with the imperfections in the wall. You may want to look into wilsonart laminate screens for indoors. They are very cost effective and offer a good picture for the price.
So, one of my major hurdles I faced was the sound outside was abysmal compared to indoor. I had to purchase another set of tower speakers just to drag outside for movies. I resolved this by adding a second 2.1 setup upstairs next to my deck and putting an old second bluray player/receiver there. Movie night involves unplugging the projector and undoing the one screw(the mount holds it position), carrying the projector outside and installing it onto the second mount, carrying two polk 50 series speakers outside, and running the hdmi cable through the doorwall. Its relatively fast and painless, all setup in about 10 minutes.

Here's my input along with links to products.

  1. Put the bed on risers to add storage space.
  2. Make a headboard for your bed. If you're handy, this can be done cheaply. If you're not handy, you can buy one for a reasonable price.
  3. Can the dresser and the desk be swapped? If so, put the desk next to the bed so that you don't wake up to a wall to your right and so you can look out the window while working at your desk. The desk can also serve as a bedside table.
  4. Mount the monitors on the wall to free up desk space. Here are a couple options - two singles and a double.
  5. Re-do the shelves. They have a very garage feel. Some cheap board from the hardware store to even out the sides would make a real difference.
  6. Put at least a picture above the bed on the side that's to your left while sleeping. It should be longer than it is tall. Scenery is good. I have this in my bedroom and I like the effect.
  7. Mount the guitar on the wall.

I only see two items that are actually rack mountable. One thing to consider is a vertical wall mount bracket for the Netgear switch and patch panel. These brackets can be used horizontally as well, so you could even mount them to the bottom of one of the existing wooden shelves. Once the switch is taken care of, everything else can be mounted in a much shallower space.

If you want an enclosed wall mount cabinet, the Tripp Lite SRW12US and
Tripp Lite SRW10US both support a mounting depth of up to 20.5". If you go this route, make sure the antennas on the wireless APs are located where their signal isn't blocked.

For about $100, you can get the Tripp Lite SRWO8U22 2-post open frame "cabinet," or the Kendall Howard 2-post 8U rack. Both support up to 18" mounting depth.

The StarTech RK12OD desktop 2-post rack for $46.99 is an interesting alternative to normal racks. Due to the slope, you want to be sure any equipment on a cantilevered shelf is somehow prevented from sliding off. Just set the DS1813+ at the bottom, between the posts.

With any rack/cabinet, you're probably still going to need a couple of cantilever shelves to hold the non-rack mountable equipment. With an enclosed cabinet, you can use the bottom and top as shelves. You could even cheat and put some of the lighter items on the Netgear switch.

Also, be careful how you stack the equipment that wasn't designed to be rack mounted. A lot of it will vent the heat up instead of out the back.

Until you put an air duct in the closet itself, I doubt there will be much circulation in there. Be careful about putting all of the equipment up high because all of the hot air will be more or less trapped above the door louvers.

u/protogenxl · 1 pointr/synology

u/johnson_n · 1 pointr/HomeNetworking

I just watched the videos and noticed that some of the Ethernet cables are longer than others. Do the cables reach the back wall at all?

What are your thoughts on installing the rack on the same wall the cables come out from? They will roughly take up the same amount of corner space for a 6U. What other equipment are you planning on installing in the rack?

They also have vertical wall mount racks. Maybe do a 2U, one slot for patch panel and one for switch. I'm just throwing out ideas to try to maximize your closet space.

On the switch, do you have devices that need 802.3at PoE+ (different from 802.3af PoE) and will you be using the SFP ports? I've no experience with large PoE+ switches but I imagine they will be fairly loud when the fans start going off especially in a space with no airflow.

I'm using similar ones: B-Tech BT77

They were the cheapest in germany at the time buying, and they work pretty well. Use them at my desk with the Dali Spektor 1.

The mounts are pretty massive and i think they can hold significant bigger speakers than mine. Mounted them at a plasterboard wall and i think the wall would break earlier than the mounts. Sorry, but what is it exactly you're looking for? Your post isn't exactly clear. Speaker wall mounts come in all forms and sizes so while you can debate what is "aesthetically pleasing" there should be something for everyone. I put my tv on the wall and just passed all the cables through the drywall, it is really easy. the stand itself was like $15 on amazon and I bought a kit that included the cabling in-wall that was up to code so that I wouldn't have a problem with insurance, it's basically two plates one for behind the tv and one next to your power source (behind my console), and you snap on the power cables and it has holes to pass all other cables as well (hdmi, optical, etc you can simply pass through the wall without breaking any codes or regulations).

Yeah I was in the same boat. Then just happened to see someone mention something related to that and I looked it up and lo and behold. I just dont want something to happen to you and your family and then your insurance may find out what caused the fire and then you are SOL.

I ended up using this power bridge:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HIYAFR4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_NFlZAb22TAVB6

In hindsight I would have just wired it all behind the wall. It does look a little silly plugging an extension type cord into a working outlet and plugging it into the power bridge. But it is all code compliant and it was simple to wire and install. But this is usually only used for offset outlets like my old house. Your outlet looks to be perfectly placed so you should easily be able to piggyback off of that outlet.

u/CptHammer_ · 1 pointr/askanelectrician

Ok that's a mistake. The adapter should be designed to handle the entire string of LEDs. Maybe even more if you read the literature. My LED addaptor that came with mine can handle up to three strings and I only have two attached. You might find yourself cutting a section of LEDs off the end if your string is to long. Defiantly read the literature that came with your set.

Now those dongles do look ugly. Something like this should look better. You can then put a blank cover over it, or a picture, or a clock, or a picture of a clock. You can run the low voltage side over to the LEDs and have it pop out the wall right at the end of the LEDs.

I see it looks like you have a coax and outlets inside the area. I would think that after the TV and equipment are in you could hide all the wiring behind the TV pretty well. To keep everything nice and tidy I typically just use Velcro strips. You may want to get an articulating wall mount ( something like this though it would depend on the size of the TV, also they do make some with double arms, which I do NOT recomend as when you pull them all the way out they tend to kind of stick )for the TV, this could serve you in 2 beneficial ways 1. Ascetics (you could bring the TV so that it would sit flush with the edges of the inset) 2. When you need to mess with the cables you would be able to swing the TV out to get clear site of the connections. Also would leave space to mount the power strip on the wall behind the TV(possibly)

So, that one - right? Did you just use the existing screws in the back of the monitor?

Sorry for bugging you, I just ordered the monitor and I REALLY don't wanna fuck this up.

That's the mount. Smaller arm but it does extend. I'm not opposed to attaching to plywood just wondering how necessary that is.

u/JMMD7 · 1 pointr/hometheater

For a TV so light pretty much any decent quality mount should work fine. If it were for a 90-100 lb TV I'd be more concerned about quality. Personally I'd get one for say 50lbs so you know it's at least meant to hold that much.

Amazon has a ton of them available.

Something like this should work fine:

Here ya go.

Lemme know if you got questions on it.

u/JennyFerFer · 1 pointr/DIY

Mounting a TV to a wall with no vertical beams. Yes, that's right. NO VERTICAL BEAMS. There are horizontal beams that run every 18 inches. The wall is next to a window. I have tried 3 different stud finders, and they've all shown the same thing.

I bought this unit (before finding out there are no vertical studs in the wall) : Mounting Dream MD2377

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00QOOZ4DE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have a 42 inch flat screen Samsung TV that's roughly 7 years old.

I'd like to know the best possible way to mount this to the wall. The bracket to mount to the vertical beam (which I don't have) measures 10.5 inches long by 4.25 inches wide (at the widest parts).

I was thinking of taking a piece of plywood that was large enough to screw into both horizontal beams, but my husband is skeptical. (We are both not very home renovation inclined).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Edit: This wall is on one side of a WINDOW. There are vertical studs on either side of the window, and in the corners of the room. This house is in Canada.

Thank you for your help. Sadly those mount adapters are kinda pricey and I don't like how the stands are still attached to the monitors. Would something like This work?

u/zakabog · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

You can take the monitor off the stand and sit it inside something, or balance it nicely, my coworker cut a hole in a small cardboard box and stuck the part that attaches to the base of the monitor through that. You can also buy VESA adapters

u/ChrisRK · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

If you don't want to modify the monitor (and keep the warranty), there's alternatives like this.

u/fitzkits · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I don't know how elegant it will look, but this is a common universal adapter for monitors with no mounting holes.

u/ameoba · 1 pointr/NoStupidQuestions

Could get something like this, an adaptor or even build a DIY mounting plate.

u/wouldyoulikeabag · 1 pointr/macsetups

They're kind of a pain in the ass to mount, too. I think Amazon Prime drops the price 20%, could be worth a trial.

Just in case anybody's interested here's what you'd need:

Aaand just in case you're as salty about a $35 adapter as I was, heres a cheap 'n' sturdy mount arm

Yup. I used a fairly cheap one but I mean worked perfectly. I Didn’t have wood behind the wall so I just used dry wall plugs that can hold 60lb.

I brought a TV I no longer wanted into work where it was placed on a wall mount. When 46" wasn't big enough for the conference room I took it home again - but they had lost the base. I got one of these:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0122TVI7U

It was fine. Plenty sturdy for the TV - which was a *heavy* older LCD 46" - probably heavier than my LG OLED 65". Nothing fancy but it did the job. Ex-roommate still has the TV and stand.

I live in a heritage home and did not want the walls to be disturbed. I decided on a floor stand. https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Screens-Portable-Adjustable-STAND-TV07/dp/B01CR4Y0XO

For additional stability, I threw some furniture on the legs for addition weight.

u/orphantosseratwork · 1 pointr/AskBattlestations

So I had the same problem, I used this TV stand, shortened the legs and bolted it to my desk

u/sglville · 1 pointr/DIY

You are probably better off using something like this https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Display-Portable-Adjustable-STAND-TV07/dp/B01CR4Y0XO/

u/EmpireCityRay · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

No prob. I would suggest in the future thinking about getting a wall mount off monoprice.com or a floor stand like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CR4Y0XO (the caster version is $2.00 more at the same link ALL just to move away from the turquoise color which in the future will either limit your choices of furniture or have you move towards that color. But once again all my very best to you and your place.

Nope :) just a simple RGB strib (with remote control) powered via USB that i've connected to my PC so, when the PC turns off, the LED strip also turns off :) You will find hundred of it on Amazon :)

Something like this one!

The stand you can see comes with the center monitor, asus pg279q. The two monitors (asus vg248qe) you see on the sides are mounted to the wall using amazon basic wall mount (see link). The way I have it setup can give the appearance of all three monitors being supported by that one visible stand.

u/Pepsi567 · 1 pointr/hometheater

Is that outlet junction box attached to a stud running down the middle? If so try something like this

Or get a regular mount and use lag bolts to a single stud and use toggle bolts on the sides. They should hold up a 55" TV.

You should be able to drop the TV a little lower.

u/thetedderbear · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

Some of the articulating tv mounts have a tall and narrow mount to the wall, and because the mount moves around you can position the tv a bit more ideally despite where it’s mounted. Something like this:

My way of mounting the dock is pretty uncreative. I bought a mount and drilled some holes. Moving it out of sight is a bit more dependent on the situation. In mine it wasn't really possible so I didn't bother.

u/aLtErNaTeCaSeS · 1 pointr/nintendo

No, but my use this if you don't mind wall mounting. He travels around in a camper and it hasn't fallen off yet.

Switch wall mount

u/jessathemessa · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

There are wall mounts specifically for the dock (search Nintendo Switch Dock Mount). You could then mount it next to your TV or something high enough up where it can't be reached by the toddler. Example: https://www.amazon.com/TotalMount-Nintendo-Switch-Mounts-Wall/dp/B071HLJL4Q

u/100xp · 1 pointr/xboxone

My brother has a pretty cool set up for his switch. There's a wall mount on Amazon that's pretty cheap and easy to install.

He has it right next to his wall mounted TV, so you don't see the cables at all.
I don't know if this is the exact one he has, but here's a wall mount

What about something like this, let’s you run the cables behind the drywall. Still have to pop it out at the socket to plug in the adapter but at least no wires all over the place. Says it comes with a 10 foot cable.

u/Proximal13 · 1 pointr/amazonecho

Nope, bought it off amazon. Here you go.

u/SoDak12 · 1 pointr/hometheater

I’d use this mount and go with the largest tv that would fit. Also blackout top and bottom blinds. Sound choice will be the next step. No doubt projector in the basement where you have better space and light/sound controls.

Fireplace Wall Mount

u/naddyliteVT · 1 pointr/DesignMyRoom

I would suggest mounting it where the mirror is and using a pull down style mount. Something like this:

Mount-It! Fireplace TV Mount, Full Motion Pull Down Mantel TV Mounting Bracket with Height Adjustment, Fits 40-70 Inchs TVs, 70 lbs Capacity https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0767YJDLT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lwsTCbND6DMHF

u/Ineverpayretail2 · 0 pointsr/StandingDesk

Really depends on the weight rating of the articulating arm.

Not sure if there are cost effective way to mount the tv to the wall and also have it slide up and down the wall. I would also imagine it being a huge pain to adjust every time you change desk position.

I would just place the monitor on the desk, and make sure that it is at the correct eye level, Also with a screen that big I imagine that you already have a deep enough desk to accommodate the viewing distance.

EDIT- Ok your situation got me curious and I remembered there is this product called a mantel mount. Which would allow for an easy vertical adjustment, but not sure if the range of motion is enough for your situation.

Also maybe you can frankenstein a dual articulating arm, and combine the two vesa plates to one singular vesa mount to mount onto the TV, which begs the question, does your tv have vesa mounting holes? If not, maybe you can just attach the Vesa plates to the back of your tv, you would need to do a lot of DIY, opening it up and making sure you drill correctly and have proper backing. My biggest concern of attaching an arm mount directly to your desk top is that it would be too heavy and won't be stable at the mounting point. You would need to drill into the desktop and possibly reinforce it with a wide piece of steel or which wood to compensate.
