You've correctly identified it as junk. Good.

If you really want a zoomie, check out the Wowtac A3S, but we tend to recommend fixed-focus lights for most applications. They're more durable, more waterproof, and have more efficient optics. The duty lights section of the arbitrary list of popular lights has some options that may work well for security work.

u/Virisenox_ · 13 pointsr/flashlight

Wowtac A3S. We don't usually recommend zoomies, but there are a few situations where they make sense due to their lack of spill. This is one of those situations.

u/BrokenRecordBot · 13 pointsr/flashlight

Hello flashlight seeker! You may find our arbitrary list of popular lights to be a useful starting point.

For more personalized recommendations, check out this guide for posting some extra info about your needs/wants.

Otherwise, the community suggested budget starter light is the Convoy S2+ with 4000K and 7136x6 drivers.

For a non-18650 light, the AA ThruNite T10 II or Lumintop Tool, and AAA Lumintop IYP365 or Sofirn C01S are all good choices.

I AM A BOT. DOWNVOTE TO REMOVE.

u/Mrmagroin · 13 pointsr/flashlight

I really need to change my lurking ways! Gotta get 50 more karma by Wednesday to qualify! But since I’ve been lurking I’ve got a Surefire and a ThruNite. Really looking to try a Sofrin.

This Sofirn SP33 looks right up my alley!

u/Fish117 · 13 pointsr/NatureIsFuckingLit

I have this one

But my Dads got this one and it's way more powerful.

I can still use mine to spot them from my porch. They glow like crazy, jst have all your other lights off. It's like looking for the less-bright stars.

u/TheBlindCat · 12 pointsr/guns

No, even if I hated money. Lasers are pretty pointless, they are far slower than good night sights. For the cost you're being offered I'd buy a new Glock 19 (which comes with 3 magazines), a good flashlight, and a set of night sights.

The deal being offered is fantastic, for your buddy. He's going to come out way ahead on this one.

u/ketnehn · 12 pointsr/amazone

Fenix PD35

Finding good flashlights is an odd little passion that I have. Of all the lights I've bought throughout the years, this is by far the best balance between performance, lifetime, and cost.

EDIT: I know this isn't technically a lantern, but it is more than capable of doing the job (moreso than most cheap lanterns, I'd say). Also, It can be used outside of camping. I keep one in my desk and another one stowed away in my car. It is extremely handy during the night if I need a light source.

Notable Features:

  • 4 brightness settings; the highest one being as bright as my jeep's headlamps. you can practically light up an entire section of a forest with it. edit: this is a pretty accurate picture of how it performs.

  • Strobe mode (I never really use it though)

  • Full metal casing - It is extremely durable. Only time I broke the LED is when I accidentally dropped it 12 feet off a ledge onto concrete.

  • Water resistant - I've gone swimming with it several times with no negative repercussions.

  • Diffuser tip - This is the "lamp" part of the flashlight. with it on, you can easily illuminate a large room. Not to mention you feel like harry potter using that lighty wand spell, too.

  • Rechargeable battery and charger. I highly recommend you buy these, as the batteries this brand uses are not so common.
u/mpak87 · 12 pointsr/flashlight

This light is so bad it’s kind of a meme here. We try very hard to be a really friendly, welcoming place, and it doesn’t give a person a good first impression when they ask for input and get roasted. I don’t want to sound like some kind of gatekeeping douche. We can advise some truly excellent lights for very little money, but for some unfortunate reason that model is kind of crappy and was marketed to death.

I saw you mention a list of uses in another comment, the Thrunite you were advised to get is a great one. Another budget option that’s still of good quality is a Sofirn SP31. It comes with a battery and charger, and would be everything you need to get going. Also a world better than that thing.

u/BingoThink · 11 pointsr/flashlight

Check out the Wowtac A2 on Amazon and see if it's what you're looking for. A great quality light for the price, and the battery has a built in micro USB port for charging so no external charger needed.

u/zonination · 10 pointsr/gravityfalls

Just get it here then.

If you want to make a faithful mockup of the blacklight version:

u/pdb1975 · 10 pointsr/gundeals

Streamlight 88066 HL-X, $100 at Jeff Bezos' yardsale. 1000 Lumens, runs on 2x CR123s or 1 18650, comes with a momentary and latching remote tape switch or you can run it without.

u/parametrek · 10 pointsr/flashlight

You should get the $20 A2 instead. It has a much more useful mode spacing.

u/Randaethyr · 9 pointsr/residentevil

Nah. You can get a police trade in 92F/FS/G (the G will probably be a bit more expensive because decocker only is pretty popular) for probably $500 or less.

https://coppercustom.com/beretta-92fs-le-trade-in-beretta-92fs-leo

Then you have your choice of grips.

https://www.dsgrips.com/Samurai-Edge.html

For about $20 you can get a rail adapter if you can't find a 92 with a rail.

https://www.amazon.com/NcStar-Beretta-Accessory-Adapter-MADBER/dp/B0058DC520

For a little more than $100 you can get a great quality light from Streamlight.

https://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-69110-Weapon-Tactical-Flashlight/dp/B000JWD16E

The most expensive parts would be a threaded barrel, suppressor, and tax stamp for the suppressor transfer.

https://www.berettausa.com/en-us/barrel-92fs-blk-assy-threaded-black-threaded-bbl/jb92th/

https://www.silencershop.com/silencers/pistol/silencerco-9mm-osprey.html

But You don't need those last two to make a good Samurai Edge clone. Or the light really. You just need a police trade in 92F/FS/G and a set of grips which can potentially be far below $550.

u/SirRipo · 9 pointsr/EDC

IMO, 1AAA lights are the best option for EDC. Ranging anywhere from like 50-150 lumens, and both small and light. The Olight I3E is a great option, or the ITP EOS A3 which seems to be the basis of the Maratac AAA, my favorite little EDC light.

u/bmengineer · 9 pointsr/flashlight

Welcome to our sub! The first problem is wanting a light with variable focus. There won't be one that meets your requirements. A quick search on parametrek.com shows that all of the options with 1000 lumens and adjustable focus are much too large to fit in a pocket. That isn't surprising - zoomable lights tend to be much bulkier and heavier than standard lights. The one exception is the Fenix FD30, which goes for about $80.

I'd suggest instead trying a simple 1x18650 tube light. In my experience, changing brightness modes can get help you see about as far as zooming in would, and you don't get any added weight.

  • The Armytek Prime C2 is on sale for $55 right now. This is a popular EDC option that comes with a battery, built in charging, and has a magnetic tail-cap which I think is handy as all hell.

  • Wowtac A1S comes with a light and a battery with built in charging and can be ordered off Amazon for $30.

  • Wowtac A3S for $30 you get a zoom light and a cell that can do about 1000 lumens, like you wanted, but you can see the added bulk this has.

Woops, I linked the neutral tints of the A1S and C2 - cool options are also available for both of those. Sorry.
u/TheRealMisterCrowley · 8 pointsr/guns
u/GnashRoxtar · 8 pointsr/EDC

So in my mind, the basics of an EDC are a knife, a flashlight, a pen, and a notebook. Depending on your preference/level of preparedness, though, multitools are great, a gun is convenient if you're in a dangerous place with any regularity, and a first-aid kit can literally be a lifesaver.

So for the basics I'd recommend:
Knife: a Kershaw Leek or Scrambler. The Leek is smaller, more discreet, very light, and razor sharp. The Scrambler is considerably more robust, has a longer blade (3.5" vs. 3"), but weighs more as well. Both can be found in Kershaw's "Blackwash" finish, which I like both for the feel and for the added rust and scratch resistance. Both are also spring-assisted, which is legal in a lot of places, but check your local laws before carrying either in public. If you can't carry them, take a look at the Cold Steel Voyager. It comes in several lengths, is legal in California, and is very durable, if not super comfortable.

Flashlights: Oh my god, the flashlights. LEDs have become so cheap and so bright over the last few years that it's actually pretty hard to go wrong. Nitecore is currently my favorite brand, but Fenix has some options as well. I would urge you not to buy a surefire; they are undeniably great lights, but unless you expect to encounter truly extraordinary circumstances on a regular basis (any chance your light could fall under a tank or a bulldozer? maybe surefire is for you), they tend to be somewhat more pricey per lumen than a number of other companies. For EDC, the Fenix PD35 2014 edition is almost unmatched. Almost a thousand lumens, takes rechargeable batteries, and small enough to drop into the front pocket of your jeans, if you don't want to use the included clip or holster. If you'd like something more keychain sized, the Nitecore SENS series comes in several sizes and battery types, and automatically adjusts the brightness of the beam based on the light's orientation. Aim it at your feet and you get a soft glow; aim it off into the woods and it grows steadily brighter.

Let's be honest, a pen is going to get lost. The best pen is one you like enough to keep track of, but one you won't miss too terribly should some co-worker walk off with it. I like the Zebra F-301. Writes smooth, classic stainless steel good looks, and comes in RGB & Black. Notebooks depend entirely on personal preference too, but the smallest Moleskine is easily pocketable and has 32 lined pages.

In my mind, there is only one name in multitools. Leatherman has a kick-ass reputation, a 25-year warranty, and a plethora of tools to suit any need. For the casual EDC, I'd go with what I believe is the second-lightest full size tool, the Skeletool. 7 functions include a knife that opens while the rest of the tool is closed, the ubiquitous pliers/wirecutters, two double-sided bits and a driver; and it looks so. freakin. cool.

I dunno much about guns except that of all the things I've listed, a pistol should be the one you consider most carefully, especially whether you need it or not. It's a big investment and a bit of a lifestyle adjustment if you decide to go CCW. I've always heard 9mm and up, so use that as a jumping-off point.

First aid kits are useless unless they're both small enough to be carried anywhere and large enough to contain anything you might need. Making your own is a good idea because you have the best knowledge of your environment, but I found a couple on Amazon which seem to have most of the basics without too much fluff or bulk. The first could be stuffed in a jacket pocket, whereas the second would be useful in a car.

I hope I helped. Good luck!

I understand you don't want to mess with new battery types so close to the storm, but an 18650 will mean you won't be dealing with replacing batteries in a possibly wet environment.

You could get an Atactical A1 neutral white for $20 from Amazon and a Wowtac A2 for a bit more than budget, but you would be getting everything you would need to ride put the storm. Both lights come with 18650 batteries and the batteries have built in micro USB charging so you don't need any extra hardware other than what you probably have on hand for your devices.

u/HighSpeedChase762 · 7 pointsr/ar15

Spend the extra $20 and get this one here. I have one on my 8” SBR and agency LWRC M6A2.

Not familiar with this dealer but price is $100. This is THE best WML I’ve used alongside the TLR HL for Pistols. These are the only 2 lights you need IMO.

Lumintop Tool AA?

  1. Check - 550 lumens (ish. Theres a 219C version, too.)
  2. Sort of - 11.5mm protrudes with the magnetic tail on (but that makes it a twisty), 24.5mm with the clicky tail.
  3. Check - if you swap tails
  4. Check
  5. Check - $18 on Amazon

  6. Check
  7. Check - In the twisty configuration

Left to Right, mostly:

Green Cards - I switch this out with other cards pretty regularly, but it matched today. ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ESWPAKU/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_R-0TDbZEN6C0N )

Slim Wallet - It's super thin and it attaches to my phone. ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P4J55NV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_9msGDb54PTKM2 )

Watch - It's durable and in my opinion doesn't look too bad for the price. ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009KYJAJY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_BosGDbN06048V )

Wireless Earbuds - They are dated so they aren't the best anymore, but they are still pretty good. ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07582VVJR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_QnCDDbV5X5EQY )

Multitool - It doesn't have a knife so I take this to school. It's not the best, but it does small things great. ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0058RX9NU/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_Rc1TDbRPMMDB0 )

Flashlight - For the size, it is really bright. It doesn't last forever, but it is rechargeable. I recommend it for something small. ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GQRJLDP/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_6g1TDb65T465P )

Knife - This sub knows this knife. ( https://www.bladehq.com/item--Benchmade-Bugout-AXIS-Lock-Knife--98607 )

Necklace - Totally normal carbon fiber dog tag. ( https://www.bladehq.com/item--Spyderco-Panchenko-Dog-Tag-Folder--29966 )

If anyone has any questions about any of this stuff, leave a comment and I'll do my best to respond. To clarify, the knife goes in my pocket and I put on the necklace after school.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my post! Have a good rest of your day everyone!

u/yossxp · 6 pointsr/flashlight

I recently picked a Lumintop Tool AA 2.0 for many of reasons you describe here.

Looked for something small and light enough that can be attached to a baseball cap, yet, bright enough to be used for camping, night hikes, around the house and on the bedside stand.

It turned out as a great little light for my needs, very bright with Eneloop batteries and can be used with 14500 and Alkaline, which are available everywhere in case I run out of spare power.

Tail switch operation with very simple and easy UI, mode memory, hidden strobe, reversible clip that can be attached to a cap, and a silicone diffuser which makes it great for lighting up a tent or an 'in the wild' dinner setup.

As for the weight, it's actually lighter than the AA Eneloop battery that is used to power it.

u/owe84n · 6 pointsr/flashlight

I'll second that recommendation - bloody good starter light.

Another option is the Sofirn SP31 v2.0 - but as you've mentioned re: charging, this is more of an external charger type situation, vs the battery in the Wowtac having a USB connector.

Fenix PD35 TAC 1000 Lumen CREE XP-L LED Tactical Flashlight with Two EdisonBright CR123A Lithium Batteries https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DR9GWX0/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_9MCywbH2HT8KZ

u/TheTopSnek · 6 pointsr/mildlyinteresting

It's really small, so yeah.

It's literally smaller than my palm, so it's hardly annoying to take it along.

u/korgothwashere · 6 pointsr/EDC

For a replacement to that Maglight, even something like the Streamlight Microstream would be an improvement. A Nitecore tube would be a decent replacement as well, with the added ability to throw it on your keys instead of putting it in your pocket.

If you want to really improve your abilities, something like the Olight S1 Baton with rechargeable Rcr123a batteries or a S10R bundle would be smaller than that maglight and a TON brighter. Of course there is also the S20 Baton that runs 18650 batteries, but it's thicker than, but maybe not as long, as the maglight you've pictured.

Those last options are a bit pricey to start with, but are worth it, and will save some money in batteries over time, if you're running disposable AA in your current setup.

u/Handsome_Zack · 6 pointsr/flashlight

My eternal suggestion for these types posts is the WowTac A1S, which has the advantages of both being cheap and including a micro-USB rechargable 18650 battery of decent quality. Simple on/off from the tail switch, and then there is a side switch to change modes (my dad has never quite figured how reverse-clicky switches work).

However, the low mode is pretty high at 24 lumens and a moonlight mode might serve your purpose better, at which point there are two nicer lights that I would put forward - the Thrunite Neutron 2C V3 or TN12. The Neutron is an e-switch only light that is controlled via one button and has shortcuts to both low and high. The TN12 is a nicer version of the aforementioned A1S with a nicer driver and a lower low mode, but as far as I can tell it does not come with a battery.

There are also a few AA/14500 size lights that you might be interested in, like the Sofirn SC31 or Wuben E05 (The SC31 is 18650... Still a viable option but way bigger than I thought).

Hope this helps!

u/BlueSwordM · 6 pointsr/flashlight

A Thrunite TN12 would be your best bet:

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B01EWW91S8/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1521124442&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=thrunite+tn12&dpPl=1&dpID=41j54TA18aL&ref=plSrch

Can go from 0.4lm firefly (even better than your Fenix), all the way to 1000lms if you need it.

Nice constant brightness, and is nice and reliable.

Edit: Except on its highest mode, where it slowly goes down as the battery drains.

u/Sweet-And-Sauer · 6 pointsr/ar15

Get a streamlight hlx. Comes with pressure pad that attaches to the picatinny on the top of your handguard.

it’s 100 bucks on amazon

u/LilFuniAZNBoi · 6 pointsr/ar15

The BCM is using a Streamlight HLX. The MK18 is using a Surefire M300C MiniScout with a dual pressure switch. They are both mounted using Magpul's Offset Aluminum MLOK Light Mounts

u/cwcoleman · 6 pointsr/flashlight

I am not a /r/flashlight expert, but I am an experienced hiker along the AT and other long distance trails.

Flashlights / headlamps are important, but you'll use them less than you expect during a thru hike. It's rare you'll night hike and common you'll be in bed shortly after sunset. Night pee break is the most likely time you'll need a torch.

Weight is the biggest factor for me, although of course functionality and quality are important. My recommendation would be something super simple, like the Nitecore TIP. It's rechargeable and super small. Still enough power to night hike if you really need to, and low settings to get around the tent/shelter or cook dinner.

You should also check out /r/Ultralight for other gear recommendations and of course /r/AppalachianTrail.

u/cthulhubert · 5 pointsr/EDC

The core material EDC, to me would be knife, light and cellphone. But cool keychain gidgets are really nice too.

So I'd say if you have a knife, a good flashlight would be next, then a backup knife and light (one is none, two is one). I like a multi-tool or SAK for my backup knife, and a keychain light for my backup torch.

(In case you're curious, after that I start considering footwear, gloves, hats and other clothing.)

(Sorry, I'm feeling a bit lazy, so you'll have to live with bare links.)

This one is pretty popular for keychain use: www.amazon.com/iTP-A3-EOS-Flashlight--Upgrade/dp/B006K5C2EG/

Fenix has single AA and 123 powered lights that are well regarded and compact:
AA: http://www.amazon.com/Fenix-E11-Compact-Lumen-Flashlight/dp/B005GW8UC2
CR123: www.amazon.com/Fenix-Compact-140-Lumen-Flashlight/dp/B005CWRB44

There are a lot of other brands worthy of consideration too, of course (Fourseven's mini, Jetbeam, Klarus, Zebra, just to name a few).

There are also a lot of much larger but more capable flashlights out there.

Keychain stuff is always nice:
I use these sliver grippers way more than I thought I would. The convenience of always having them around is unparalleled: http://www.amazon.com/UNCLE-BILLS-SLIVER-GRIPPER-TWEEZER/dp/B001KMSUA4
I've been thinking of getting this, I'm a little leery about that much stuff for so little cost though: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003A5E5IK
I love this style of keyring, but it's way cheaper on eBay: http://www.amazon.com/Vigilant-Gear-Aircraft-Cable-Ring/dp/B006ZSP1PA
Little one-piece keychain tools have become really popular, and I really like having a little prying and screwing tool always present.
The Gerber Shard is cheap but probably at least worth what you pay for it: http://www.amazon.com/Gerber-22-01769-Shard-Keychain-Tool/dp/B002ZK45IQ
This one has a bit more functionality, and is made of the magically delicious titanium: http://www.amazon.com/Schrade-Chain-Tool-Seatbelt-Cutter/dp/B004PQJ1QO

Keychain multi-tools can be good.
Here's one from Gerber: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006M9NIDO
Supposedly the build quality isn't as good as Leatherman's though: http://www.amazon.com/Leatherman-64010101K-Micra-Multi-tool/dp/B000JCN0FG

I'd also recommend looking for a glow in the dark lanyard.

A pen you can EDC is another "you're surprised how often you use it" item. I have an Inka and it's definitely alright, though a bit fiddly: http://www.amazon.com/Nite-Ize-Inc-Inka-Pen/dp/B001E6R6EM/
The biggest competitor is the classic Fisher Bullet Space Pen: http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Space-Pen-Bullet-400B/dp/B000WGD13U

Something to write on is nice. I'm a real child of the digital age, but I still like having an analog recording medium on me. I prefer Pentalic's pocket size books to Moleskine's. They're a little thicker, but they have a flexible cover, and are usually cheaper. Here's one: http://www.amazon.com/Pentalic-Travelers-Sketch-3-Inch-4-Inch/dp/B0025TZ35Q but I don't know if it's ruled or grid or what. I also prefer a bright color cover to make it easy to spot.

Continuing on the writing stuff matter, a sharpie and/or a metallic (ink) sharpie are nice to have. You can get sharpies with stainless steel cases too, which feel nicer to hold, and you're a little less likely to forget somewhere.
Black (dozen): http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006IFEP
Stainless Steel: http://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Stainless-Permanent-Marker-1747388/dp/B001V9LQLG
Metallic: http://www.amazon.com/Sanford-39108PP-Metallic-Sharpie-Permanent/dp/B00119QWCO

I think everybody should carry some sort of bandanna. I carry an off-brand buff (tubular bandanna) and an olive drab shemagh.

I like to carry a small baggie of what I call MacGuyver goods. Paracord (bound up in a hanayawa right now), some gorilla tape and electrical tape wrapped around a card, super glue, a sewing kit, zip ties, twist ties, rubber bands, safety pins, binder clips, and a few 1 quart ziplock freezer bags. (Like hell I'm finding links for all of those.)

Yet another "surprising how useful it turns out to be" item is a small mirror: http://www.amazon.com/Coghlans-Featherweight-Mirror/dp/B0047QV44O/

Whistles are useful for warning people of fire or danger, or calling for help, so I like to carry one: http://www.amazon.com/Fox-40-Whistle-Breakaway-Lanyard/dp/B00544UJC6

A monocular is fun to have on your person. This particular model is really great because of its super low minimum focusing distance, which lets you use it as a sort of loupe. In regular mode it's good for looking for house numbers or your car in a parking lot, that sort of thing: http://www.amazon.com/Brunton-Echo-7x18-Pocket-Scope/dp/B000FKMTBS

I think that's all I could come up with off the top of my head.

u/Geodyssey · 5 pointsr/flashlight

There's nothing wrong with the Preon 2. It will serve you well. As a matter of personal preference, I don't like to carry 2 x AAA lights on my person. I prefer a single AAA light.

As for single AAA lights, the Preon 1, the ITP A3 EOS, the Fenix LD01, and the Peak Eiger are all favorites. All of the lights mentioned can accept a 10440 lithium ion cell for maximum output (much higher than the advertised and higher than your Preon 2) or other low voltage cells (lithium, alkaline, NiMH etc...).

I personally carry a Peak Eiger every day of my life. It's so small and light it disappears in my pocket but it puts out plenty of light. The version I use has the QTC pill which gives it infinite variability from very low to vary high. Peaks also have fully potted electronics for added durability and water proofness.

Get yourself a very bright flashlight with a crenellated bezel, something like the Fenix PD35

It is small enough to fit in your pants pocket and clip in. The light, at the brightest setting, will temporarily blind anyone you point it at. It's bright enough that it will hurt. The crenellated bezel is intended for things like smashing through glass but can also be used for self defense.

Leave the flashlight on its brightest setting when you're walking around, learn to pull it out quickly and thumb the switch. It should buy you enough time to get yourself out of that situation (or hit them if you are truly fearful for your life).

Plus now you have a nice flashlight for everyday use.

Another vote for the HLX. amazon has them for $106. You can mount it on the end of the handguard at 3 and you won’t get too much carbon on the lens.

I haven't hiked the JMT so I can't comment on your clothing system but here are some general thoughts:

Ditch the headlamp for a sub 1oz USB rechargeable flashlight $30

Ditch the Leatherman for a Victorinox Swiss Army Classic $15

Ditch the paper maps and use Guthook's since you already have it. $Free

Ditch the Sea to Summit X-Cup and I wouldn't bother with the hot lips either $Free

Replace the trash compactor bag with a Fumigation bag $2.49

Ditch the compass $Free

Replace the stove with the BRS Stove $15

All this should save you about ~11 ounces for ~$63.

If you are worried about fitting in the superior 35 I would take a look at the MLD Prophet $195. This should be plenty of room and will save you an additional 18+ ounces.

There are quite a few other flashlight in the Black Friday Deal, including Wowtac and Lumintop. May need to be a prime member to get these saving.

A few examples:
Wowtac A5 – https://www.amazon.com/WOWTAC-Rechargeable-Flashlight-Included-Emergency...
Wowtac A3S – https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074V88YD2
Lumintop Tool AA v2 – https://www.amazon.com/LUMINTOP-AA-2-0-Flashlight-Pocket-sized/dp/B07BLT...

You can just do a search on these manufacture names, and in the resulting product list, all that are included in the Black Friday Deal will have that label and how much the savings are.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I have this Lumintop Tool. I've only had it about three months, but I've been super impressed by how bright it is for the size.

u/Ratus_ · 5 pointsr/flashlight

That's a very crunchy light.

Do not get that light.

Definitely not worth $3, let alone almost $10.

------

Get either one of these much better lights:

  • Wowtac a1s
  • Sofirn SP31

    -------

    >but this first purchase is out of need for finding ping pong balls

    That's one I hadn't heard before.

I'd suggest you do another post about what you need the light for, you will get a lot of good responses.
u/Souichirou · 5 pointsr/flashlight

WELL THEN ! since you want something to start I always recommend either the Sofirn SP31 or the Wowtac A1S both on amazon for around $30 or less and come with an 18650 and charging solution with a turbo of 1000+ lumens. Since this is your first light you probably don't have cells or a dedicated charger unless you are a vaper.

IF you really want to drop closer to the set budget pick up an Emisar D4v2 tiny as all hell and dumps 4k+ lumens solid throw (not thrower levels BUT very impressive) and pick up some cells and a charger.

But again don't rush start small.... you will end up spending more than you want to overtime..... =D

u/burnerzero · 5 pointsr/flashlight

If $50 is a hard line, Sofirn SP33 is 2500 lumens and more than most uses require. It comes with a 26650 and charger for $41.

As others have stated, Sofirn SP36 BLF edition with Anduril is probably the best option in that range. You can get the light with stock Sofirn branded batteries for $70 or get it without for $50.

If you want slightly better than the stock Sofirn batteries, you can get 3 of the popular and budget friendly high drain 18650's like the Samsung 30q for $16.50 + shipping.

u/Undercover500 · 4 pointsr/flashlight

I carry the Lumintop Tool 2.0 AA and love it. I don’t use the 14500 since I want a low mode that’s not 16 lumens, but other than that I love the light and the ~250lm turbo on a NIMH battery is all I need. We like to fool ourselves thinking we need 1,000 lumens for EDC, and while I do carry a larger 18650 light with almost 1,300 lumens, which is nice to have but realistically, 250-300lm is probably good enough for most of my purposes.

$20 on amazon.

Sofirn SP31 V2. Takes an 18650 cell, for $35 got the light, an 18650 cell and a single battery charger. Amazon link

u/General_Specialist · 4 pointsr/flashlight

Single mode really limits your choices, the vast majority of good lights have multiple modes. There are lights with really simple operation where you can treat it kind of like a single mode light, though.

Check out the Wowtac A1s. It has a button on the tail that switches the light off and on. It also has a silver button on the side that cycles between the five modes. If you never touch the side switch, it'll act just like a single mode light. It doesn't come with a charger, but the battery has a built in micro USB port for charging.

Another simple option is a Sofirn SP31 V2.0. It works the same way with the tail button for on/off and the side button for switching through the five modes. That one comes with a more traditional battery and charger.

u/AppleThief20 · 4 pointsr/guns

My top recommendation for a home defense gun is the full-size Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm with this ammo (this website will help you find it), this light, these grips and this magazine loader.

I prefer handguns for home defense because they're easy to use, compact and enough firepower for most home defense needs. And I recommend the M&P because it had zero gun-caused stoppages in a 2010 ATF test. They're also relatively cheap. I purchased mine for $410 using this website.

However, you being from California complicates things. I'm not very knowledgeable about California gun laws, but I think they limit you to 10 rounds. If that's the case, then I'd personally want more powerful rounds. I'd probably go with a 12 gauge Mossberg shotgun if I was you - like an 8 shot Mossberg 500 - and I'd either put some Federal slugs or 00 buckshot in it (I prefer slugs, but most people prefer 00 buckshot). I'd also attach a light to it by using a simple tube mount.

u/az_liberal_geek · 4 pointsr/arizona

Okay, I've killed hundreds of scorpions on my property and have developed a technique that works.

First, you need to prep the battle area. Buy some Cy-Kick concetrated spray and a sprayer to use it with. Hit any cracks, baseboards, entry ways, and places where you've definitely seen them. This will only occasionally kill them, but it definitely softens them up.

Next up, get a UV/Blacklight flashlight. Scorpions glow very brightly in the dark when you shine this on them. Then, have two tools for killing them on hand:

  1. A stick. Some kind of stick that's two feet long or so and maybe an inch wide at most. Scorpions have a habit of staying still when the lights are off thinking that you can't see them (which is true if you don't have a UV light) and so you can easily position the stick above them and then squish it! It's very satisfying.

  2. Terro Scorpion Spray. Sometimes the scorpions will be in a place where the stick can't get to and in those cases the Terro spray is needed. Spray a liberal amount directly on the scorpion and it will die in the next few minutes. It's not instant but it will eventually work. It also looks like the scorpion suffers when using the spray, which I also find satisfying (I hate them so much).

I go on roughly weekly hunts during the summer and those techniques have proved to be very effective.

Don't bother with a blow torch. They will almost surely get away in time. The stick and spray is a much more reliable method.

And don't worry about getting too close. They don't move very fast (relatively speaking) and I've never seen one that will attack -- they just try to hide, if they know you see them. Wear sturdy shoes and have your UV light, stick, and spray on hand and you're practically a scorpion killing machine.

I like my SRT5, but given the choice in the current market, I think I could save a few bucks on some alternatives. I do really like the control ring of the SRT5 and it is still unique in the market, but I don't think it's worth the extra price on top of some of these competitors.

  • ThruNite TN12 (2014) - This guy is very new to the market but ends up being very similar to a Fenix PD35 at a lower cost. You also get the option of Neutral white tint.

  • ThruNite Neutron 2C V2 - Similar to the Fenix E35 (below) this light has a single side switch for power and mode selection. Excellent value and brightness is on par with all of the others in this realm.

  • Nitecore P12 - $60 for 950lm high mode, side mode switch button just like the PD35 and TN12.

  • [Nitecore P10] (http://www.amazon.com/Nitecore-Tactical-Flashlight-Batteries-LumenTac/dp/B00M0EFYIC) - Quite similar to the P12, save ~$5 and take the max lumen output peak down a bit. Mode switch is on the tail next to the clicky - for emphasis on quick access to strobe modes and that sort of thing if you need it.

  • [Fenix PD35] (http://www.fenixlight.com/ProductMore.aspx?id=137&tid=9&cid=1) - It looks like Fenix has responded to the P12 with this 2014 edition of the PD35 here on amazon, bringing it to 960lm in turbo. Won't be all that different from the previous PD35.

  • Fenix E35 Ultimate Edition - This light is rather similar to the P10, except you have a single side switch for power and mode changes. Comes in at a great value, if you are OK with the UI.

Out of the above I would basically narrow it down based on what UI you like the best, weighted with price as well. If you would like power and separate mode switches, you've got the TN12, P12, P10, and PD35 to choose from. For a better value with just a single switch there is the E35UE and Neutron 2C V2. Based on my preference and budget I would try to get the TN12 (2014) in neutral tint if you can find it. If I needed a quicker turnaround I'd probably go with the P12 at $60. These are based on my personal criteria, definitely have a look at the parametrek page for your parameters as well.

We recently had a pet disaster situation - the litter box got blocked one night, and the cats peed elsewhere. I cleaned up everything I could find, but the smell just wouldn’t go away, no matter how much I aired out the room. Several weeks later, I realized it was the couch - it had been soaked in pee. I had to get rid of the entire thing to get the smell to go away.

A cheap UV flashlight like this one, shined all around the room that smells (at night), can help you locate the source of the smell. It will make any pee spots/puke spots light up so you can find them and clean them. If the cats have peed a large amount on anything that’s fabric (clothing/rug/furniture), your best bet may simply be to get rid of it. Even the most thorough cleaning won’t completely get rid of the smell; if the cats can still smell any of it, they’re likely to continue marking the same spot, because now it smells like a litter box with them.

I agree with the other commenters about the importance of changing the litter box frequently (and that the usual rule for how many litter boxes you should have available is number of cats + one). But to keep them from continuing to mark whatever it is that’s currently carrying the stink (my guess is carpet, couch, or pile of clothes), you’ve got to find it and get it out of the house.

For a ridiculously expensive quick fix, they make automatic, self-cleaning litter boxes. They cost several hundred dollars (although occasionally they can be found for about a hundred on fb marketplace, and they do offer financing for about $40 a month), so seriously - very expensive. But it cleans itself, every single time your cat uses it. Cat goes, it waits on a timer, and then it sifts the litter and the clumped waste goes into a regular kitchen trash bag in the drawer underneath the unit. Every so often (with four cats, it would probably be every other day), you take out the trash bag full of waste, toss it, and put in a new bag. When you do, you add a couple cups of litter. It only needs a deep clean (emptying the litter and wiping down the inside of the globe) maybe once a month. Again, super expensive - but it’s a quick fix solution that would scoop the litter box thirty-five times a day, if your cats go thirty-five times that day. Depending on how much you’re planning to spend on the safe outdoor space for the cats (I’m assuming you mean some type of catio or fenced porch?), it could end up costing about the same thing.

Hold onto your pride in the progress you’ve made. Your mom may not see how big of a difference you’ve made, but you know what it looked like before and what it looks like now. Keep going in the right direction.

u/BonesOfWhales · 4 pointsr/discgolf

Use a blacklight.

If you observe where they’re running to and from that’s where you’d have the best luck with traps. You can also use a UV light to spot their urine trail and place the traps directly on that trail. Rodents are creatures of habit and, like ants, follow a certain and specific pathway.

I’ve used glue traps and bait them with peanut butter or dried shrimp(I realize many people don’t have dried shrimp so anything pungent smelling will do) and it’s worked pretty well.

Edit: The UV flashlight thing I’m speaking of I got from a hardware store in their pest control area for $10. It’s similar to this one

Thrunite TN12 and Wowtac A2S perhaps? Both take Li-ion 18650 rechargeable batteries. The A2S does SOS at least, if that satisfies your flashing function.

You should be able to get those two, plus batteries and charger for less than £100. You'll need a separate pocket clip for the A2S in order to hang it off a pocket, belt, stab vest, etc and of the ones here I think the best one is the 21-23mm as the A2S is 23.5mm.

u/techguy24 · 4 pointsr/flashlight

Since you say "Does NOT need to be an awesome throwy search light, as tempting as that is." I'm assuming you want a light with a bit more throw...

If the size and weight are acceptable, the Convoy C8+ is going to be hard to beat.

If you want something a bit more slim, the ThruNite TN-12, WowTac A1S, Emisar D1, or the Nitecore P12 are decent options.

Your budget is really low for a light worth having. To summarize your requirements for this flashlight:

  1. Reliability

  2. Acceptable illumination

  3. Pistol fit

  4. Pressure switch

  5. Sub-$100

Very few clones have both #1 and #2 together. Very few flashlights period have both #3 and #4 together. The best way to get desired options #1-4 is to get a firearms grade pistol lamp and not a clone. However, I wouldn't expect to find a pistol lamp that has all that functionality while still being within spitting distance of #5.

If we ditch requirement #5, then we can put this together:

For my literally carry on my person at all times kit:

  • This keychain flashlight is one of the things I'll be getting for Christmas this year to replace my old junker. I put a bit of research time into this with the help of /r/flashlights and youtube video reviews. I think it's a solid pick.

  • I carry a Skeletool CX Multitool pretty much everywhere except airplanes. For day to day life it has all of the tools most people will need and weighs way less than a fully packed leatherman. I have uses for this at minimum monthly if not multiple times a week.

  • I also wear a paracord bracelet regularly. Honestly... on that one I've never really had a call to unwind and use it as rope, but I like it well enough and it's nice knowing that it's there if I need it. Given the recent apple keynote address where they announced that their new watch will have full cellular capabilities among the other things it can do I am half considering replacing this with a $400 wrist computer at some point, but that's a hefty investment.

  • Smart phone. A world of information at my fingertips.

  • Then there's the usual stuff like keys, work badge, headphones, wallet.

However, I also bring my backpack with me to and from work everyday, and if we're heading out adventuring for the day I'll chuck it in my trunk just to have it. I'm not sure I'll get everything here, but I'll toss in what I can remember off of the top of my head.

  • Kleenex, Ibuprofen, pepto tablets, band aids, cough drops
  • Pepper Spray and a boot knife
  • Fingerless leather gloves + a seasonal pair of full work gloves. The fingerless ones are the ones I use most often when I'm helping friends or family move heavy things. They have padded palms and protect my hands well. The seasonal work gloves are for in the event I need to engage in more messy hand work and the winter pair has served as backup for my cold weather gloves more than once when someone less prepared didn't have their own.
  • I got a shemagh once on a whim after watching a video on it. Tried it on, decided I looked ridiculous, but kept it as a small thin blanket in my backpack.
  • Come winter I always have my Balaclava (seriously, this one is awesome) for really cold weather and even a half piece for when it's cold enough for a scarf but I don't really need full head gear. I love both of these and refer to them as my full ninja vs my half ninja. My fiancee rolls her eyes.
  • A few kirkland brand 5 hour energy bottles (I don't like coffee)
  • Umbrella, lighter, backup phone charger, and headphones
  • Full size water-resistant flashlight

That stuff usually gets toted around with me just about everywhere, though not always directly on my person. Depending on the season or event I'll add or remove items as needed.

Wowtac A2 (Amazon affiliate link) is a great choice, but unfortunately they don't have neutral white (NW) stock right now. Cool white (CW) is fine though.

u/211logos · 3 pointsr/CampingGear

Given the quality and prices, no reason not to have both tools. Or even one that satisfies both requirements, like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072P1W1X6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I like the WowTac or similar not only because it can be used as a headlamp or flashlight, but works as a clip b/c of the L-shape.

Flashlights are necessary when you need big power, or for long running use, since more LEDs and more batteries start to get cumbersome on your head. But these days you get so much power and long use out of so little that's less of a factor.

For me, it's the ergonomics. Flashlights I use have say magnets or clips so for some uses, where I don't want it on my head, they work better. I HATE walking around a camp at night with a headlamp on since every time you look at someone you night-blind them. Very rude. And actually, 'round camp I prefer a lantern over flashlight or headlamp. You can keep it low, with indirect light, and make it easier to see out into the dark. Having lots of people with headlamps beaming lights all over the campground (esp with today's more powerful lights) makes your camp look like a cheesy Hollywood premiere with klieg lights, the visual equivalent of playing boom boxes in camp at night.

And of course sometimes you want the light directed at an object from a different direction than just above your eyes. You can do that with a headlamp too, provided the strap doesn't get in the way.

For running at night we preferred flashlights over headlamps. Much easier to see the trail (kinda for the same reason your headlights on your car aren't at eye-level). Holding a light lower makes shadows and obstacles more apparent, esp at speed. For long runs, the ergonomics of holding the small flashlight just felt better than the squarish headlamps and no strap to get in the way.

If you specifically need the ability to focus the light down to a small spot, with little or no spill light around said spot, you're going to have a hard time reaching 1,000 lumens. The optics used in that type of focusing mechanism are only about 20% efficient at full zoom, which makes 1,000 lumens of output almost impossible in that configuration.

The Wowtac A3S and the more expensive but better-built Brinyte B158 are the only lights I know of that come anywhere close to your requirements, but both will only produce anything like 1,000 lumens on the full wide-angle setting. Once you focus it down to a spot you'll be working with more like 250-300 lumens. Physics is a harsh mistress sometimes. If you need the output for maximum long-range performance, you'll be much better served by something with a reflector (which is about 80% efficient instead of 20%).

u/684692 · 3 pointsr/flashlight

I agree with the Wowtac A2S/Convoy S2+ suggestion, and will add a link for the Convoy S2+ suggestion. The older Convoy S2+ have worse UIs, the SST-20 LED models are all new and it's a pretty decent LED anyway. Unless you have a real strong preference towards blue tinted lights, if you go that route get the 4000k and either 6 7135 or 8 7135. More 7135 is more brightness, faster battery drain.

If you really want AA, look into the Lumintop Tool AA, although it takes 14500 (3.7V AA sized batteries) also, for more brightness. There's a bundle version on amazon with a 14500 with micro-USB charging built in. It's LED is not as good and I'd only suggest this if you really want small.

On charging 18650s (or 14500s): A 12v cigarette to USB adapter would work, with the note that you shouldn't charge your lithium-ion batteries in a hot vehicle, as it degrades the battery life. You also shouldn't store them in freezing weather and plan on using it, as it just won't work well until it warms up.

Decent portable chargers: Nitecore F1 will charge lithium batteries and can act as a powerbank.
Olight Universal Charger can charge most things and is pretty foolproof.

I received compensation from Sofirn in exchange for writing this review, but am in no way influenced and wish to provide an unbiased review.

Link to the imgur album in the OP

The light is the SP31 V2.0 with XP-L HI in neutral white

First off the packaging is fairly basic. It was a simple Sofirn box without many markings on it to even indicate what kind of light was inside. They just reuse similar packaging across their lights which is fine. I got the combo that includes a battery + 1 bay charger. Came with an instruction manual and fairly standard lanyard, nothing special here.

Next to my smaller 18650 lights such as the Emisar D4 or Jaxman E2L it seems kinda big, but after a day of carrying it there's no issue. I would like to take this moment to praise Sofirn's pocket clip. I personally strongly detest the "deep carry" pocket clips on lights such as the BLF A6 and prefer a simple more robust clip like Sofirn uses that doesn't raise up passed the tailcap. Something about this light that REALLY bugs me is the tailswitch protrudes beyond the lanyard bumps which WILL NOT allow it to tail stand. If you find yourself tailstanding your lights a lot, this may not be for you and is honestly the largest fault I have physically with this light.

Now on to usability and functionality. I really like the forward-clicky switch.I can definitely see why people prefer these. It's very easy to just soft hold it down when you only need a brief burst of light vs needing to fully depress a typical switch. It's honestly not a big deal, but for convenience sake if you're often only using a light to read or check things in short bursts I would recommend a forward clicky. This light has a secondary electronic towards the front and that's solely for changing modes. I also underestimated how nice it is to always have the light turn on at the same brightness I last used, no surprises, just consistency. You can find a brightness you prefer and just only use that. It's simple click to cycle through modes 1-5 then long-press to access strobe/SOS. My only gripe is there is no shortcut to turbo or the lowest mode. The modes also cycle with a fast smooth ramp which is pleasant.

Next is brightness and my thoughts on beam shape. I clocked the light in at level 1(7), level 2(53), level 3(151), level 4(477), level 5(985). This is mostly in-line with what Sofirn claims except for the max brightness of 1200 lumens that they tout. I tested on their own included cell at max brightness and even a Sony VTC5, but wasn't able to crack 1,000 lumens in my tests. As far as throw I can only really speak relative to my other lights and it's certainly throwier than a stock BLF A6 with OP reflector by about 25%~. I was also surprised it out throws Sofirn's own SF36W which has a sizably large reflector(but with XP-L not XP-L HI). The light is definitely throwier than I thought it would be for such a small reflector. You won't be breaking any records, but the hotspot is tight and the spill isn't extremely bright so you could use this to point out things or focus on objects at distances within 65ft/20M. As for tint it's not offensively cool at all, but is a bit cooler than I personally prefer. The positive is that with the XP=L HI there is very little tint shift so it's evenly white lacking an "egg-yolk" corona that I see with a lot of XP-L lights.

Runtimes.. I don't really have much to say here. The max-level stepdown is timed, but there is also mention of thermal sensing? After around 3 minutes at step down the head of the light was only 112F/44C and was still very holdable. It continued at this level for a little over 2 hours until it dropped down briefly before dropping again twice in 20min intervals. The light's indicator LED in the e-switch was full red indicating voltage was low and the output was quite low so I ended the test woth the cell at 3.06 volts. The red indicator turns on below 3.1V and shuts the light off entirely at 3V says the manual.

As per usual I tested the waterproofness lightly. I submerged the light in a little over 1ft/30cm of water for 2 hours exactly and there were no issues this time around. The head seems sealed/glued and I cannot get into it which probably adds to the waterproofness. The o-rings came lubed well and stopped all water ingress. There was no problem with the e-switch either. The only possible problem might be water sneaking around the tail switch boot, but I took a look inside and it was still dry. It passed my test no problem.

My brief thoughts on the charger... It works. Charges around what seems to be 0.5A with a standard micro USB jack. The cell voltage read 4.15V at completion which is good with me. Much rather slightly undercharge than overcharge and damage a cell's life.

Final thoughts... I can see why a lot of people like the forward clicky + e-switch combination. It's very predictable and you don't have to worry about accessing random turbo or strobes. I'm not a big fan of throwers, but the XP-L HI provides very little tint shift and solid throw in a small package. The numbers I tested at max brightness are a little off, but those extra 200 lumens are negligible in my opinion and the light is more than capable at medium ranges even on levels 3 or 4. I really wish the light could tailstand correctly I'm not sure if forward clicky switches are just larger and that wasn't taken into account, or perhaps the switch boot is just too thick where it depresses the switch. Overall if you're looking for a basic starter light with a no-frills predictable modeset, compact throw, and comes with a battery/charger to start an 18650 eco system I'd definitely recommend this light.

If there is a light you really want, you probably will buy it anyway. So I personally would think smaller prices wouldn't be an issue, as you play along for fun mostly.

I don't know if it complies with the rules but I would enter the giveaway with a Lumintop AA that I would give to my roommate. He likes to borrow the lights that popped up in our house since I found this place here on reddit, but is not interested enough to get some himself.

I say lumintop tool AA, not AAA. The AA can use 14500 batteries to put out up to 650 lumens.

I use this, but it requires a hat with a brim

Doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it's sturdy, the low setting is just enough to see by, and the high setting is bright as shit. Takes AA batteries or the lithium version if you want rechargeables. Also comes with a little plastic cover that turns it into a lantern, although it's too bright to do anything but hang. if you put it in your field of vision, it will blind you.

They line up because I kept the camera on a tripod (and didn't move it).

The pictures were taken in my closet so I could have as little visible light as possible for the UV shots. The visible shots were taken with the closet light on, and the UV shots were lit by an LED UV flashlight. I used long exposures and waved the UV light around to get even lighting in those shots.

The camera isn't capturing the UV light, it is capturing light that is absorbed from the UV source and then reemitted in the visible spectrum.

I suggest you take a look at Eneloops - basically rechargeable batteries. They've come a long way and give you more options: this way, any AAA flashlight becomes feasible, rather than that is already rechargeable.

Second, Parametrek is spot on - a firefly mode is what you want. The ThruNite Ti3 comes to mind, for about $15 from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/ThruNite-Ti3-Max120-Lumens-Flashlight/dp/B00EC0FY1O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496145358&sr=8-1&keywords=thrunite%2Bti3&th=1) - uses an AAA battery, or an AAA Eneloop like I mentioned above.

Another option is the ITP A3 EOS. It's similar to the Olight i3s, except the ITP A3 starts off in moonlight mode. (https://www.amazon.com/A3-EOS-Outputs-Keychain-Flashlight/dp/B006K5C2EG/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1496145850&sr=1-1&keywords=itp+a3+eos)

These two lights are "keychain" lights - running off a single AAA battery and are small enough to fit on a keychain.

When I worked on oil rigs in Saudi Arabia, I used these often at night. They were unreasonably bright. They last long enough on a single battery that I wasn't really that worried about it. I did have a battery charger with extra batteries onsite.

This was back in 2015, there are probably upgraded versions on the market now (brighter/longer lasting). Also a slightly larger form factor could fit additional batteries.

Back when I got these, they were 96 lumens, then 120 lumens. Now they are upgraded to 150 lumens. I guess they're using the Cree XP-G2 LED these days, and a cursory search shows this LED is available in lots of flashlights with many form factors. I'd recommend it.

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B006K5C2EG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They're tiny, but that was a plus in my book. With LED's, size no longer correlates to brightness in any meaningful way.

If you really want a fancy one, look for an LED with a high "Color Rendering Index". That will be more difficult to find. But the light will show you corrosion/small leaks, etc much better.

If you still have issues, you can put a light dusting of flour (or Baby Powder) on your floors before you go to sleep to figure out where the mice are coming from. They will leave tracks. I usually would dust the floor of my kitchen. Doesn't need to be that deep, just a feathery dusting. Don't worry, flour can easily be swept up in the morning.

Also if you are still at your wits end - using a UV light to track urine stains would give you an idea where the rodents are coming from.

I'm not gonna recommend any Glock lights until mine comes in, because I don't want to recommend you something that's actually crap.

But a good flashlight to carry on duty would be a M2R Warrior from Olight, which has 1500 lumens of brightness, along with lower modes so you don't have to blind yourself. It's also rechargable via a charging magnet (though it takes a while to charge even from halfway, but it lasts a while. So I recommend bringing the charger with you in your cruiser to plug in while not using it), however only batteries from the company works with the charging so you should buy a few extras just in case. https://www.olightstore.com/m2r-warrior.html

Though if you want something a bit cheaper check out the Thrunite TN12, it doesn't come with a battery or charger but you can buy a couple of batteries and a battery charger with it which should round to above $60. It has a tailswitch which turns it on and off, and a side switch which changes the brightness. There is a rechargable version called the Thrunite TC12 but I don't own it so I can't tell for sure if it's good. https://www.amazon.com/ThruNite-TN12-2016-White-Flashlight/dp/B01EWW91S8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?adgrpid=55500419509&hvadid=274766153410&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9031595&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=17864662150002831374&hvtargid=kwd-299961498922&hydadcr=20378_9349085&keywords=thrunite%2Btn12&qid=1571428667&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzRU9WMFVHUjFLQUtJJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTc4MzAzM0c5V0FFQjZFNDVSRiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwODUzMTgwMUNIWVZHWEZFWjNLOCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX3Bob25lX3NlYXJjaF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl&th=1

My personal favorite is the Seeker 2 Pro from Olight. It's 3000 lumens with a built in magnetic charger, battery indicator, and brightness indicator. However it has a side switch and no tail switch, so if you prefer a tail switch you may not like it. It's also submergible up to 2 meters and tough as hell. The batteries also take a while to charge but can last 2 hours on the 3000 lumens (not including the heat drop-down). But it is on the expensive side. https://www.olightstore.com/seeker-2-pro-black.html

I just recently bought the ThruNite TN12. I'd definitely recommend it. It's tough, not too big, fits in a pocket, especially with the metal belt clip. It's got a few easy to manage settings, no incredibly complicated clicky system or twisting and it auto turns on to the last used setting so all it takes is one click. It also has the option to hold the on button half down for quick use. It runs on an 18650 which I would buy from Orbtronic if I were you, that's where I got mine. It also has a strobe setting if that'd be something you're interested in. If you have Amazon Prime you can get the shipping free too. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EWW91S8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Streamlight Protac HLX is a great option if you don't want to drop surefire money. Comes set up for picatinny mount, and has a remote switch. Pretty popular light.

I do think Streamlights are good weaponlights. While I don't have the railmount version, I do have the normal Protac HL and HL3 and they've been good lights so far. Personally if I were you and wanted a Streamlight, I'd go for the Railmount HL-X. It's only a couple bucks more, but it puts out 1000 lumens and it can also run on 18650 rechargeable batteries so you don't have to keep buying expensive CR123 batteries. It will also run on CR123s though if you want to use them. I've also heard that those Thorntail mounts are pretty good. I've seen people use them and they like them.

Nice man, both your kits are pretty solid. I'm at work so I can't be as thorough as I would like but here are a few ideas that stood out.

1/8" Pad: Drop it, cut two panels off your zlite to use as the frame and then just pull them out the pack to use at night to sleep. I did this all summer with my KS50 and it worked great. You'll need to cut a little bit off the width for it to fit, but it's minimal and not noticeable when sleeping.

Headlamps: There are much lighter headlamp options and many prefer flashlights for night hiking to bring the light closer to waist level and elongate the shadows. You can also clip them to a brim of a hat for hands free use around camp. A little thrunite ti3 would be a good bet if you don't plan on much night hiking, or a Nitecore Tip 2017 for night hiking.

Knife: The Victorinox Classic SD only weighs 22grams or if all you need is a knife check out Spyderco Ladybug at 16grams. Avoid amazon for the ladybug, there are counterfeits going around i hear.

FAK: You could likely pair this down, mine only weighs 1.5oz

Houdini P/O: Seems unnecessary with the versalite? But I've never worn the Nano-Air Light Hoody, is the idea that the houdini would provide a breathable wind barrier when used in combination? I know this is a common strategy with fleece.

Kahtoola Micro Spikes: If we end up needing them this year I'm going to try Snowline Chainsen Light. Quite a bit lighter than microspikes.

On a side note, when do you start? I'm heading out on May 18th. Edit: Nevermind...somehow missed this in your post...maybe I'll see you all in Oregon or Washington! I'm targeting a late August finish.

That reminds me to go dumpster diving myself. I've got a coworker who goes all the time with his wife and I don't know how but they are always scoring a lot of goodies.

Anyway it seems like there are some lights out there many would skip over because of better a little more expensive alternatives, but those lights also seem to fit your needs pretty well so there may not be any need to spend the extra money. One such light is the Wowtac A2S I saw reviewed not too long ago. There's also the A2 for ten bucks cheaper but it's half as bright. It's your basic angled 18650 XP-L headlamp that comes with a battery with the built in microUSB recharging port. Again, not the best light for the price range, not the best included battery, but it sounds like you would get good use from it in an all inclusive package.

u/zerostyle · 2 pointsr/flashlight

I've been researching this myself recently, and here are the common recommendations:

  • Skillhunt h03 for $30 w/ coupon (seems to be the best, has a neutral option, lots of modes, floody which is good for headlamps). There's also an H02 version that's $10 cheaper but bigger/heavier/less modes.

  • Wowtac A2 for $20 or the A2S for $30. Very good value and includes a rechargable USB battery. Downside compared to the H03 is less modes (no ultra low) and only a cold color temperature.

  • The Manker E03H looks interesting for $30 because it has a Nichia emitter, but I don't really like the sliding diffuser.

These are both 18650 headlamps though, so they are heavier than others that might use a single AA or 14500.

Okay so here goes. The disclaimer is that I am not a cop, I am not a trainer, I'm not a fighter, and I have no formal experience. This is just something I've spent a lot of time thinking about:

I like pepper spray, but it's in the same way I like handguns: Bigger is better. Shoot farther and make it hurt. Douse that motherfucker and stop the fight ASAP (the run like hell, that's ALWAYS the best choice). The little palm models that only spray 2-3 feet are suspect for me, as you have to be close, your arms may be pinned, and you're gonna get it in your face as well.

Can you fit a can of "Bear grade" pepper spray in your purse? Go to an outdoor store and see if you can. I'm talking the kind of shit that shoots 20 feet or more. Test it out at lest once a year, and replace it at least every two years if not sooner.

This is my favorite, because it's nasty, uses combustible propellant, and actually looks somewhat like a gun (which trips psychological warning bells in an attacker's head):

http://www.botachtactical.com/liactjpxjetp.html

Caveat: Botach Tactical is a suspect-as-shit company. Buy from them at your own risk. Google shop if you want.

It's not only got sights, but it's got a rail under the barrel that you can attach something like this to for extra intimidation factor:

http://www.testequipmentdepot.com/streamlight/non-rechargeable/tactical/tlr-2.htm?gclid=CI7Sjb-tuagCFcOd7QodqHLwAw#00036223?ref=gbase

That's got a light AND a laser. This is (IMHO only) the pinnacle of non-lethal stuff. Very expensive, and you're right that you could get an excellent handgun for that price, but you would need at least double the cost (if not triple) to really become competent with the idea of firearms-based lethal force. I don't actually recommend this for you at this point. This setup could be done a bit cheaper with just the bright light like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-TLR-1-Mounted-Weapon-Flashlight/dp/B000JWD16E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303792562&sr=8-1

The whole point is something called "Force projection". You need to be able to intimidate your potential attackers, and it's not actually hard to do. They're not demons. They're not lions. They're cowardly scavengers, and they can be deterred quite easily.

The one thing I worry about with the JPX is something called "escalation". If you were to pull this on someone and they thought it was a gun, and they had their own, they might pul it and fire at you. That said, you drew first in that instance, and you can douse their face and run like hell and should be okay. The JPX blasts pepper spray out to 20 feet, which is where the VAST majority of encounters happen in.

Tasers: I don't like these for personal defense for a number of reasons, and many people with far better credentials (AKA: any at all) would disagree with me. I view these as a law-enforcement only, stopgap method of less-than-lethal control of a suspect for officers that have a backup firearm and training if the taser fails. Here's why:

  1. They're as expensive as many good handguns outright.
  2. They only work in a narrow spectrum of distance, and the electrodes need to land a specific set of inches apart on the attacker to take effect.
  3. Heavy clothing can negate the effectiveness because the electrodes have to penetrate skin.
  4. You only have one shot. If everything doesn't go as planned, then you no longer have a weapon at all.

Do your reading. I'm by no means an expert, but that's my take on them and I don't recommend them.

Stun Guns: IF you can draw them before an attacker is on you, you can use them on the attacker with painful results. They are good in a narrow spectrum in that they cause a lot of pain (but NOT incapacitation) at close-contact distances. Not my first-line suggestion, but they're useful.

Knives.....short answer: Every girl should have one. Long answer: No. It's messy, it's hard to deploy, and it's even harder to control and get yourself out of a fight with one. The old saying is that "The best outcome of a knife fight is that the winner goes to the hospital and the loser goes to the morgue. Sometimes both go to the morgue." Knives can, however, be a good "force projection" tool if you draw them early enough and use the intimidation factor to stop a fight before it starts. Actual Knife fighting is harder than gunfighting, and messier, and I'm not trained nor am I training in knife fighting for this reason. That said, I've used a knife long ago to back someone down and make the cost to them higher than they were willing to accept at the time to attack me.

If you want a knife, that's hot. A girl with a knife is awesome. Guys (normal, non-rapist guys) dig that. I have this pretty little thing on my hip right now:

    http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=BM930S

The blue handle looks sweet with blue jeans. Yes I know that's a little gay. Whatever. Very happy with this knife. If you wanted to go that way, you could be the savior and resident box-opener of your sorority and everyone will think you're cool and kind of dangerous. For self-defense? No. Not really.

So I hope that writeup and those links help. PLEASE run this by your more trusted friends and family and let them read what I wrote. I am by no means an expert. I'm just telling you want I think makes sense to me based on my reading and my experience.

    Cheers,

    Billy

u/WindowShoppingMyLife · 1 pointr/ZombieSurvivalTactics

Ok, well we can start there. This is a relatively easy light to shop for because it really only has to do one, relatively simple thing. It will probably be your most expensive light though, in terms of price, weight, and post apocalyptic energy consumption. But since it’s a light you will use in life or death situations, you get what you pay for.

With a weapon as lightweight as an AR it is possible to use a handheld light in a pinch, but it’s annoying, and you end up giving up some of your weapon support, so a weapon mounted light is a small but significant advantage.

In terms of what to look for, I recommend something that isn’t too powerful. One mistake people make with lights is that they think brighter is always better, which is not the case. On a combat light, a bright light does give you more distance, and also can momentarily make it harder for your attacker to see. The primary trade off is that indoors, these lights will also cause too much splash back, which affects your vision. Since most of your critical fighting, whether against humans or zombies, will be in relatively close quarters, you want to make sure you get a light that’s bright, but not so bright you blind yourself. Brighter lights also tend to suck more power, which often makes them heavier, more likely to die in the middle of a fight, and of course in an off grid situation they will use up more of your limited electrical supply.

Now, what counts as “too bright” does depend on how concentrated the beam is, and different manufacturers measure output differently, but as a general rule of thumb I recommend somewhere in the 200-300 lumen range.

One problem you see with a lot of lights is that manufacturers often add way too many bells and whistles. This appeals to the marketing side of things, but it actually makes a light much more difficult to use under pressure. That’s very bad in a combat light. A good combat light should have two modes, “constant on” and “momentary on.” Those are fairly self explanatory. Any other features are not features, they are bugs. With any combat light, you will use momentary on almost exclusively most of the time, in very short bursts. This is primarily to make it more difficult for a human enemy to pinpoint your location in the dark, and can also help to disrupt their night vision if they are not used to it. But it is useful to be able to lock it into constant on mode in case you need to use the weapon one handed. Ideally, you want both functions to have discrete controls, so each button or switch only does one thing, and you cannot activate one when you mean to activate the other.

Keep in mind that for close quarters fighting, a lot of pistol mounted lights also make excellent rifle lights, and are often much lighter weight, which is important.

I’ll give you a few different options to consider, though there are a lot of great options out there.

Streamlight 69110 TLR-1 Weapon Mount Tactical Flashlight Light - 300 Lumens https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000JWD16E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_s0eIDbABDFN0G
This is an excellent all around light, and one of the best for the money. It will mount to any sort of rail on a pistol or rifle, takes 2 CR123 batteries (which do come in a rechargeable, though you may lose some power and battery life that way). On a rifle it’s perfectly usable with thumb switches, or if you prefer they sell an optional remote switch setup. These are one of the most common weapon lights used in law enforcement both for rifles and pistols, and I would not hesitate to trust one with my life.

Inforce W-05-1 400 Lumens Gen 2 Multi-Function Weapon Mounted Light, White/Black, XXX-Large https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LW4MEUG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_57eIDbFCAHNBM
This is a rifle specific light. They are very simple to use, and very ergonomic, which is important on a weapon mounted light. You need to be able to reach it easily. They have a momentary/constant on modes, but you can also flip a switch that will make it momentary only, which is useful, and they have a physical lock that you can use to prevent accidental discharge when not in use. (Accidental light discharge can be a problem on a rifle light because it will bump against your body/gear). There are several versions of this light, some of which are too bright or have features you don’t need or want, but some of which would work very well for your purposes. I have a version of this light on my own rifle.

SureFire M300 Mini Scout M300 Mini Scout Light w/Z68 Click-Type tailcap pushbutton Switch, Black, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KZD83DW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_rrfIDbR1Z7JH4 These are a bit pricier than the other options, and tend to be on the heavy side, but they are absolutely bomb proof. Anything Surefire is going to last a lifetime. This model is right on the upper level of the brightness you would want, and it’s a single battery light which saves you some weight on the front of your gun. It takes a single CR123 battery, so rechargeables are an option. You may lose a bit of power, but like I said this is almost too much anyway, so that’s probably fine.

Or, if you want the cadillac option, there’s this one. https://www.surefire.com/m600ib-z68-bk-scout-light.html This is a big, relatively heavy, relatively expensive light, but it does have surefire’s “intellibeam” system, which is one of the few new flashlight technologies that is actually worth having. What it does is sense the amount of light being reflected back at the user, and adjust the intensity of the output automatically. So no matter what you point it at, near or far, you always get as much light as possible without blinding yourself. I have this on my work light, and it’s a game changer. You can use the same light to search a car or a closet that you use to shine across a field, all without requiring any additional thought or input from the user. So far surefire is the only one with something like this, and only on a handful of their lights, but at some point I have no doubt this will be considered an essential feature in a combat light. It’s that good.

This light does use 2 CR123 batteries, which is ok, though you will probably get a very short run time with rechargeables, even by the standards of a tactical light (which all have fairly short run times). However, I strongly suspect that surefire is currently working on a “dual fuel” version of this light, which would get much better performance with rechargeable batteries, and be able to use a rechargeable 18650 battery or CR123 batteries. Because keeping it charged would be a big deal in a zombie situation, it might be worth waiting until they come out with a version that is both “dual fuel” and “intellibeam.” My (handheld) work light has both, and they are both worth having, in my opinion.

Many handheld lights can also be made into a weapon light with the addition of a rail mount. This is a cheap and reliable option, though these lights are often fairly heavy. Also keep in mind that not all handheld lights are designed to withstand recoil so even if you have a very high quality light you want to check before using it as a weapon light.

Depending on which version of the Ruger you have, you will need to either get an MLOK rail section, or you can get a rail mount that attaches to an A2 front sight post, like this. Midwest Industries Tactical Light Mount for Standard Front Sight, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002E6PAHG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_5hfIDbXM6VMJE I know several people who use these along with a pistol light, and it’s a very functional setup. You can also get similar mounts that attach to the bayonet lug, if you prefer.

How/where to light the mount tends to depend on your personal preferences and shooting style, so there are a million different ways to set it up. You just have to find something that’s easy to use for you.

If you aren’t carrying a pistol, which most people won’t need, then you probably won’t need a handheld combat light, so the weapon light will be your biggest ticket item.

Your friend needs to run out right now and get a high powered UV LED flashlight. Something like this:

ALL fluids for a car are UV reactive, so you should be able to detect where it was if it hasn't rained yet. Depending on the type of antifreeze, it could be green, yellow, orange, red, or blue in color and should light up very brightly with the linked flashlight.

It's also above the cost of the olight (I would need to at least buy some 10440's to go along with one of the AAA lights)

As far as output is concerned, I don't care if it's continuously variable or button or twisty -

but i DO want the light to always start on its low setting, and all of the lights I mentioned do that.

So, what am I getting out of the eiger for that extra $45? (I don't plan on changing any batteries while underwater) What I really want to see is a comparison beamshot test between the three lights when they are all using a 10440.

Also, this flashlight that I just got for Christmas:

http://www.amazon.com/iTP-A3-EOS-Flashlight--Upgrade/dp/B006K5C2EG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420498454&sr=8-1&keywords=a3+eos

The thing is tiny (just barely larger than an AAA battery) and very bright. I'm excited to start having it in my pocket all the time.

u/GTI-Mk6 · 1 pointr/EDC

Ah that is quite interesting! I always enjoy hearing why people carry what they do.

AAA with a pocket clip=Itp A3 Eos
AAAx2 with a pocket clip= Streamlight Stylus or Preon II.

I'd go with one of the 2x AAA's as they are easier to hold and won't fall out of your pocket as easily.

I just got this last week, and I'm pretty impressed w/it thus far. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006K5C2EG/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details

I am sorry to be just a touch off what you asked for. I use this guy:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006K5C2EG/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1452795374&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=eos+itp+flashlight&dpPl=1&dpID=41E%2B8nxBiWL&ref=plSrch

It is 11 grams without the key chain or battery. Uses normal AAA batteries so easy to replace out in the world. 55 hours on low with alkaline, and the low is all I ever want, but gets insane bright. I use a baseball cap, so you flip the clip and clip it to the brim. Easy grab to go handheld or toss to someone else for a moment. It is not technically a headlamp but I consider it my headlamp. Only thing to consider I can think of is do you wear a cap, and would you want a wider throw, which I do not find necessary.

u/yo_Naturale · 1 pointr/weekendgunnit

Those Fenix lights are pretty awesome. But somehow I paid half as much as much as this guy did.

u/thatcrazycanuck · 1 pointr/AskMen

Definitely spring for a good flashlight. Cheap lights that put off yellowed light are so aggravating, and it's amazing the difference a good flashlight makes if you go camping/anything outdoors at night. My dad has gotten really into flashlights and got us each one of these Fenix brand lights, and they're the brightest flashlights I've ever seen, and can be dimmed down for jobs that need less light.

Edit: Here's an album of the difference between a cheap light and a quality one.

u/SharpieInThePooper · 1 pointr/ar15

I use a Fenix PD35 with a Daniel Defense flashlight mount. Flashlight is $71 on Amazon right now. $50 for the mount, unless you can find it elsewhere. 960 Lumens. Hasn't broken yet in the 3 months I've had it on. Just an FYI, its very floody, and it's not really meant for firearms, so be warned.

u/FOH-Banana · 1 pointr/techtheatre

Depends on what you're needing to use it for....

I keep a Fenix E11 in a pocket pretty much all the time - runs on a single AA, now discontinued in favor of the slightly-more-complicated Fenix E12 - and it's great for looking in road cases, under things, etc.

I've occasionally been looking for - but haven't found - a replacement for the LED Mini MagLite that would fit in the Nite-Ize Pock-Its, but haven't come across one yet that I like.

For a super-bright grid-inspecting light, this Fenix PD35's on my wishlist...

u/faffywaffle98 · 1 pointr/flashlight

Right, thank you. I'm not sure if that really warrants a $10 price difference but whatever.

I'm trying to go through amazon because I have a gift card. I found the flashlight, charger, and 2 of the panasonic battery on there.

Those 3 separately total to just $15 or so more than the set but I guess I'm paying for quality and an extra battery. Does that all look good?

Have you thought about getting small flashlight? I own Olight S1 Baton and it works great when I am traversing my apartment when dark (I'm the one who goes to the bed last).

As for strain - make sure brightness is set to low value. What strains the eyes the most is not the screen per se, but the difference between pitch dark and torch light from super bright monitor. Turning down the brightness will ease that.

edit: You could also get anti-glare (so called "computer") glasses, but those can get expensive. On the other hand, sometimes employers refund those, so you might be in luck.

u/PipPenguin · 1 pointr/flashlight
u/ferthur · 1 pointr/flashlight

What about a Thrunite Ti4? Two AAA (pick up some good NiMH batteries-- Eneloops or rewraps), with a nice moonlight mode and adequate low for searching bags without blinding people. Also has a 250 lumen high and strobe (might be useful for directing). It's about the same thickness as a AA battery, and pen length at 5.5 inches long. Neutral white would be recommended over cool white for better color identification-- especially for your use case.

You can get some batteries and charger, and the light with a sweet titanium body for about $55. Or the light direct from Thrunite in black with shipping for about the same.

Edit: spelling/grammar

I just got a Lumintop HLAAA. It's an insane little light. Takes a AAA battery, doubles as a headlamp (comes with a headband I haven't tried) and has a magnetic base.

3 modes; low, medium and high. Super simple, nice color rendering, tiny. It doesn't project (throw) light much but it's perfect for things within reach and navigating in the dark. Looks better IRL than the pictures I've seen online. Nice nickel finish, damned well made. It hangs on my bag and has become my go-to light for nearly every indoor use.

If you really want to light things up go with what others have said; Convoy S2+ is the go-to bang-for-your-buck light around here. The Wowtac A1S is no slouch either. Those require 18650 batteries and chargers but the A1S comes with a micro USB chargeable battery.

The Nitecore Tip deserves a mention. It's a small, micro USB rechargeable light that packs some punch. Takes some fiddling to figure out the buttons. Falls between the Lumintop and the others I mentioned.

If you want a "full sized" light that'll put your eye out, go with the Convoy S2+. Even with the charger and batteries it should fall right in your budget. Only reason I don't go with the A1S here is the poor LED in mine (I probably made a poor choice), has a greenish tinge, probably not noticeable unless you're a fanatic like us.

I like this idea, (EDIT) I'm having trouble interpreting the runtime/lumens chart in the photos of this page.

I think to get > 200 lumens, you'd have to use a 14500 cell, and that will only yield about 45 mins of runtime. NiMH and Alkaline cells will give more time, but lumens dip to 120.

It sounds like this light won't produce enough light for long enough?

u/MervGoldstein · 1 pointr/flashlight

White Tool AA looks nice!

u/dubyrunning · 1 pointr/flashlight

A sleeve pocket sounds like a cumbersome place to carry a light, but I don't know your work outfit requirements. If that's where you want to carry it, a smaller light, like on that uses a AAA battery, or a AA at the biggest might be your best bet. Neither will be quite as bright as a light using an 18650 battery can get, but for the use you've described you should get more than enough light for the job.

Something like the [Lumintop Tool AAA](http://Lumintop Tool AAA) or Lumintop Tool AA might serve you well. The AA will be significantly brighter than the AAA, but will also be a little bigger, so check out the product pictures and description to decide if the size will work for your pocket and needs. Based on your description, the AAA should be more than bright enough.

If you'd consider a right angle light, the Manker E02 might be a good choice for you. If runs on a AAA so it should be compact enough for your sleeve pocket. Also, due to its right angle it can be clipped onto your clothes so it will continue to shine where you need it even when you're not holding it, keeping both hands-free. The Manker E02H is the same light, but comes with a headband so you can wear it as a headlamp as well. Both versions have a magnetic tail so you can stick it to a nearby metal object to light up an area.

Thank you for the giveaway.

Going forward, I’d say go with smaller prizes. My reasoning is that the larger the prize the more us non-americans get screwed by shipping/taxes. We’re at a point where I’d almost feel bad about winning this light because it’d be robbing someone in the US a chance to get a zebralight. Feels fairer when it’s everyone going for a budget light.

Edit: or if you decrease frequency, decrease it so much that the prices can go up by a bit :) Around $60 is the most painful range to be in, with half the prize still being eaten by costs.

Thanks for the giveaway!

I think you'd be pretty happy with this. It's a solid light plus 3500 lumens is much brighter than that p7.

For future reference, this Sofirn C8F Kit would have been a better choice. Decent quality cell, brighter, better thermal management, more compact.

For a similar form-factor, the BLF or Sofirn Q8 would be vastly better, but you'd have to spend another $30-40 on decent batteries and an inexpensive charger.

Thank you again for all the hard work and support. Glad to see this sub growing and collecting so much useful info.

If you choose me, I’d like the Sofirn C8F, please:

It's not quite that cold in Utah, so I have no idea which batteries are best, but I have a strong preference for dual switch (tail power, side e-switch) for biking in the winter. My Thorfire Tk15s has been in bike strobe mode since early fall, and I've never accidentally changed the mode turning it on and off with gloves on.

So, maybe a Sofirn C8f with a 21700 would have enough juice for you. It don't think it has bike strobe, but I've always thought it would be fun to put on my handlebars. The triple should be more efficient than a single emitter, and the 21700 has more capacity than 18650s.

ETA: Oops, it appears a 21700 won't fit in your i4. Maybe a 26650 light?

I guess I'd like a Sofirn SP33. Give me a better light recommendation for small pocket light around the size of an S2 with as many lumens as possible :)

You should put a Baton S1 on it! I have been thinking about mounting mine because it's a very bright light for it's size.

Hopefully this link keeps all the correct optics selected. Same number of lumens.

The answered questions indicate that it may or may not come with both caps/switches (I've seen both answers).

The reviews do indicate it comes with both caps/switches. I checked the ones that posted photos, and a few said it outright, with nobody saying they bought theirs separately (but showing it in their photos). Disclaimer: did not check every review.

It clearly comes with the mount.
