>Yeah you could answer with your headset but you wouldn't know who's calling.

My current bluetooth headset shows me who's calling.

It's just I mean; why would they leave out having a mic (and speaker too?) and been able to consolidate a lot of your phones functionality into one nicely polished device, that's also exploitable by the user base?

u/mph1204 · 6 pointsr/headphones

There are plenty of classy/fashionable headphones that still sound good.

panasonic rp-htx7

Philips Downtown

Onkyo ES-FC300

Sennheiser Momentums

There's really no reason to compromise sound for looks.

You shouldn't even worry about it if you don't have decent speakers or headphones. If you do, get the Asus Xonar DS or DX or D1. The DX and D1 are the same card except the DX is PCI-E x1 and the D1 is PCI. The DS is PCI. The DX and D1 are better cards and will produce a little cleaner sound. The DS gives you the option to upgrade the OP amps to something different. There are a bunch of OP amps to choose from and they will all make the audio sound a little different. So you can choose ones that produce a sound that you like. It looks pretty easy to do, just take the old ones off and drop the new ones in.

For headphones, Grado Labs has great headphones at very reasonable prices. Here is a pair for $100. The Grado SR80i headphones are amazing headphones for the price. If you can spend more on headphones, step up to the Grado SR 225i.

If you want to get speakers, these are pretty amazing.

Does anybody know if their Laredo model is any good? They are smaller and only $14.95 on Amazon here

u/epare22 · 5 pointsr/amazon

First of all, the two cheap ones are both refurbished. One seller is 2 stars and the other has just launched, so I would say no.

Looking at the new ones, the prices are that much different so I would just go with Amazon.

I'm also a top reviewer who has reviewed a bunch of $300 and under headphones and I would say that there is not a lot of difference between any $100-$300 headphones.

I would recommend these myself for $100-300:

We've been using these
https://www.amazon.ca/LilGadgets-Connect-Headphones-SharePort-Children/dp/B00Q3I690I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1487519336&sr=8-2&keywords=kid+headphones
since our little guy was 1.5. He seems to understand that he'll only hear his movie with the headphones on, but we let him decide if he wants to wear them or not (if he doesn't, he just wanted the movie without audio).

We started using them before the trip so it wasn't completely foreign to him.

Edited to add that we also have a bunch of little games and animated books on the ipad, and he did great. He was not really able to watch movies on the seatback tv - they don't angle down far enough, so from his vantage point they were just black.

If you use them while cycling a lot, you should consider bone conduction headphones. I think these are the ones I have. Work great and a lot safer. Also the technology is legitimately just cool.

u/Trishlovesdolphins · 3 pointsr/Parenting

I really like these.

The features include:

Noise limiting, they won't go loud enough to damage hearing.

The cord is inserted into the headphones and the radio, so if they're pulled the cord will just pop out and not break or yank your kid.

There is a jack in each "ear" so that you can hook a SECOND pair of headphones to the set and the kids can share the same audio.

I bought 2 for a road trip to Branson. My (then) 5 year old and (then) 2 year old loved them, we also purchased a portable DVD player for like $50 from Walmart and they were able to watch and we didn't have to hear the cartoons for 4 hours. :)

u/Mrfriedfood · 2 pointsr/headphones
u/pewpewlefty · 2 pointsr/CCW

I got bone conduction headphones for this specific reason. Sound quality is sub-par compared to most other stuff but I decided the trade-off was well worth it. Hi-fi sound is better in a controlled environment anyways.

u/Camride · 2 pointsr/ZReviews

Ok, don't laugh, but these sound amazing for the price. If you want something that sounds good but you don't have to worry about because it's dirt cheap, this is your answer.

Otherwise for on-ears I really like the 1more Triple Driver. It says it's over ear but it's not, at least not with the stock pads. These do sound great, better than the Koss. Plus I think they look cool, but that's subjective.

Have you looked into bone conduction bluetooth headphones?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G3JMPBZ/ref=cm\_sw\_em\_r\_mt\_dp\_U\_28CvDbFN1FK43

I have those...the AfterShokz Titanium and I use them in certain situations where I may need to hear someone.

They're perfect at work. I have my texts read to me/messages/notifications/take phone calls/etc over bluetooth and if someone needs to talk to me I don't have to take off earbuds or headphones. It's quite convenient.

And they sound really good. Not as good as over the ear headphones or earbuds mind you because those are blasting the sound right into your ear, but these sound really good.

Runners/walkers like them as well, as they can hear their surroundings (cars, other people, etc)...and they are quite nice for that.

So if you don't need noise cancelling and would like to be able to hear the outside world without taking off your headphones, I recommend these things.

u/clingyfriendhelp · 2 pointsr/needadvice

I second this, these are amazing. In addition, sleep headphones, and listen to white noise or rain soundtracks or something of the like and set an alarm on your computer.

>Bluetooth would just be something to drain my phone quicker, and another battery for me to worry about. There needs to be another alternative.

I have been using devices like this for eight years now and my phone battery doesn't drain quicker. Charging is something that might need to be done every other day but as this device is getting really old sometimes I have to charge it everyday.

Still it allows me to use some cheap headphones, control my music, use voice commands and even see who's calling for about £30. Much cheaper than a smart watch.

For headphones I use These, and I've been really happy with them so far. They *don't* go in your ears, they sit against the bone and make that vibrate, which is a fucking crazy effect. They stay in place pretty good and I can still hear stuff like oncoming vehicles when running or other people asking me stuff at the gym, so big plus.

u/Lolzum · 2 pointsr/headphones

I've listed a few options, feel free to ask more questions.

Closed:

Alpha dog by MrSpeakers is a closed headphone that rivals some of the big boys out there, even the flagship open cans. The TH900 by fostex and LCD-XC by Audeze are their closest competitors, and those headphones cost almost 3 times as much.

Mad Dog by MrSpeakers is my other recommendation for a closed headphone, this one being almost half the price and not that much worse in most regards. Less refined than its older brother, but it's very often the go to choice for someone who wants a comfortable, premium closed headphone at a reasonable price.

Open:

The Hifiman HE-500 is an astonishing headphone for its price range, competing with flagship headphones, and it is a direct competitor with the LCD-2 by Audeze, which costs 1000$. Your biggest problem with these are the weight and their comfort issues, might not be your top choice, but it's still an excellent headphone

The Hifiman HE-400i might be a successor to the HE-400, but its sound signature is much more similar to the HE-500. Not as refined, but much lighter, this might hit your sweet spot for comfort and sound.

The AKG K712 is a really comfortable and relatively light headphone, and it's really well balanced. Some people experience issues with the treble peak that the K7XX series by AKG have, but this might the best price performer that I've listed.

The HD 650 by Sennheiser is a headphone that I personally own am very pleased with, and so are many, many others on this sub and on Head-fi. If someone wants to spend big on their first headphone, these are usually their first choice. Slight clamping, but generally really comfortable, I don't have any issues with them. The sound is beautifully warm and luscious, it's really nice for a relaxed and long listening.

Best suggestions to replace some old Bose SoundTrue headphones?

Need to replace a pair that has easily earned its price, hoping to find something similar if possible since they don't seem to make these anymore. Must be wired, 3.5, and shouldn't need to be powered by an amp.

Thanks for any suggestions.

u/kinectking · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

This headset is said to be good for an audiophile on a budget. http://www.amazon.com/Philips-SHL5605PP-28-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B006WHPQUO

Audiophile headsets are often better for gamers than "gaming headsets" as they provide you with more straight forward high quality sound. Discounted from $100 to $33 is great, and it will enable you to get this mic: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002OO333Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1419576540&sr=8-1&dpPl=1&dpID=51DRAN8k5eL&ref=plSrch&pi=AC_SX200_QL40

That there sir, is a blue snowball. An amazing mic which I personally use and would recommend to ANYONE. Even better, they too are on sale. They are no longer 100, but instead a measly 50. This stays well below your max budget, and maybe you can buy yourself a nice game with what you'll save.

So... Did I sell it to you?

This Sony Ericsson is a good one I've bought. It can be used with any standard headphones. The only problem with it, is that it's small and black, and that means it's easy to lose. It can remember a pairing with three devices. The sound is what you might expect out of Sony - crisp, clean, not necessarily heavy on the bass. Suave design. Volume adjustment is via a touch-sensitive strip.

u/zowki · 2 pointsr/audiophile
u/explosivo563 · 2 pointsr/headphones

No amp needed. They have solid bass. A bit more than neutral but the bass is plenty for me. They aren't Beets or anything. For $20 the portapros can't be beat by anything.

Check out the head fi guide, and check out all the headphones in your price range they gave the B for bass mark. There are quite a few to consdider. Something like these JVC look good as well. Note they are closed.

The bad thing is I used to take melatonin for sleeping, and did a whole ritual before bed. I still do, I just don't take the melatonin. It usually works. I take all my nighttime medication, then I get in the shower. I run it nice and hot because your body temperature naturally drops a few degrees when you fall asleep, so having a hot shower before bed simulates this and helps you fall asleep faster. I towl of, put on lotion, that helps me relax because I have a specific lotion I put on at night so my brain goes "okay its sleep time", and the masaging helps some as well. Legs, arms, neck, chest, all that. Then I put my PJ's on. And I get in bed, get comfy and I will ometimes do the breathing thing. I have been to many therapists who have taught me how to do that. But the two things I find that work best for me is One: (what I usually do), I just make up little stories in my head. Ones that relax me personaly, they rae usually variations of the same story. I'm always the same "character". But they will involve me(my character) having to get rest for some reason... such as I have a big concert tomorrow and my girlfriend (another character who is USUALLY the same person) is lying in bed with me reassuring me and cuddling me. I sleep with a stuffed bunny and I have an extra pillow that he gets cuddled with, so I generally envision that the pillow and things are her. I know it sounds pathetic, but it relaxes me and I'e been doing it for at leas 20 years.
TWO: (this one is just occasionally if there is an extreme situation), I may have mentioned I'm bipolar. Well, sometimes I have auditory hallucinations. So I will put my noise cancelling headphones on (I will usually have been listening to music for a while before bed), then I will put on an album or play list that is soothing to e. I cant listen to just instrumental because I have to be able to focus on the words. With instrumentals the auditory hallucinations become stronger and turn some what visible as well. I think it's because when I was young my mom would put on thing like Mozart when we went to bed and would tell us to imagine images to the music. Anyway, the images get dark and scary. So yes. I will put on albums that I know by heart so I can focus on the lyric but I m not trying to learn the lyrics, and I start to get sleepy. I will slowly start turi down the volume on my ipod and after about half an hour or so I will get so tired that I know I will fall right asleep. So I turn off the music, take off the headphones and fall asleep. Sometimes I straight up fall asleep with them on and end up listening to the whole play list or albumm. But I have big over the ear headphones and thy hurt whe I use them in bed. Because I have to lie on my side. One day I want to get these headphones just for sleeping. I have had anoter set that are similar on my list for a LONG LONG time. But they were more expensive, but they were the only ones I could find. Now maybe I'll be able to get them sooner! :]

Anyway. I took a long time to explain my rituals for sleep. Right now I think what is going on is my Insomnia and my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are hitting me at the same time. It makes for a REALLY odd combination. I'm totally exhausted. I can't do anything. It's taking me forever to type up thing because my eyes keep crossing and I keep hitting the wrong keys for whatever reason. My eyes don't want to stay ope, and I can close them and try to sleep but I just lie there awake with my eyes closed.

I hope it stops soon. It's completely insane.

u/HarryTruman · 2 pointsr/headphones

For earphones, the JVC HA-FX40 has an amazing sound for only being $18. The highs and lows are a bit overpowered but overall they're pleasantly neutral and they're very isolated with Comply tips (didn't bother to even try the stock tips).

For on-ear headphones, and along the same track, the JVC HA-S400 also sound great for only being $25. The sound is almost identical to the HA-FX40s. They fold and collapse for easy carrying. Also, you can improve their sound if you want to pop off the pads and insert a bit of tissue or thin foam into the housing. And you can toss on some different pads and improve both the comfort and the sound a bit more.

Either way, I think both of these are unrivaled in the entry-level price range. For $18 and $25, respectively, they're totally worth checking out just for the hell of it.

u/EvilMonkeySlayer · 2 pointsr/Android

I've been mulling bluetooth headsets that you can plug any headphones into. The advantage is that they have all the fancy features play, pause, volume and mic etc. With the bonus of course that you can then plug your preferred headphones in.

The ones i've been mulling are:

Samsung HS3000
Sony MW600
Sony MW1

The Sony ones have a little led display that can do stuff like show you the current song, text messages, email etc. Pretty cool stuff.

The downside of course is you also need to keep that charged in addition to your phone.

Late to the party, but I use V-Moda M-100's combined with Creative Sound Blaster E5 High-Resolution USB DAC 600.

At $299 (for the bluetooth headphones; 199$ for the non bluetooth) and $170 (DAC) definitely busts your budget, V-Moda does sell a pair for ~$100 -- the V-Moda M-80, which might be worth checking out.

While the M100 and M80 audio drivers (50mm vs 40mm) aren't the same, the quality of manufacturing "should" be. My headphones are amazingly comfortable and solidly built with metal parts and a kevlar braided cable (that will disconnect from the headphones if you accidentally snag it on your desk/chair). I've broken a few pairs of chinsy plastic headphones in my day; I never feel like I'm going to do that with the M100's.

One thing to note and I think it's worth mentioning; M80's are "on ear" headphones, where the M100's are over the ear. Even so, I still think the M80 will be comfortable because the leather ear padding is super comfortable; like sitting in one of those $5000 leather lazy boys that you sink into, comfortable.

Last thing, I'm by no means a audiophile/snob, but sound with a DAC was noticeably better than using my mobo's sound card. IMO, might be worth considering in a future purchase.

There's a pair of JVCs (out of stock on amazon atm but those are them) with good reviews and ratings if you want something simple and portable (usually ~$20-30)

u/Hockeygoalie35 · 1 pointr/headphones

How much of a step up is the Sennheiser HD 558 from Sennheiser Momentum (V1 on ear)?

I currently use the Momentums as my gaming headset, with a Vmoda Boom pro mic. I plan on doing the same with the 558s, while moving my momentums to my portable headphones. Just wondering how much of an improvement the HD558s sound. Most reviews aren't too explicit in the differences (besides the physical shape / comfort). I'm also buying a cheap DAC for the 558s as well which wouldn't help the momentums too much due to low impedance.

Thanks!

If you'd be ok with on-ear design, the V-Moda M80 is $119 and the V-Moda XS is $136 on Amazon. There's also the V-Moda LP2 for $143 that's over-ear. Very solid build quality, excellent accessories, the sound signature is fun and bassy. The cable is removable, can be replaced with any other 3.5mm cable, V-Moda also makes some interesting alternatives, like a cable with volume buttons (the included one only has mic and pause), and a cable with a boom mic (for gaming).

At $45, you can get Philips Citiscape Downtown in purple, but the prices on black and grey are inflated because they're discontinued. If you don't mind the color, those would probably suit you pretty well.

If you do mind the color, then there's no sense in paying $20 over value for those. The buying guide recommends Creative Aurvana Live!, which seem very good for the price but I haven't personally tried.

u/Epicurus1 · 1 pointr/bestof

Why I use one if these choose my own sound isolators tho.

u/epicguy5 · 1 pointr/headphones

Budget: 0 to $75 (Canadian). Not to too much space to go up.

Source: Laptop, Moto G cell phone

Requirements for Isolation: Live in tight living quarters would like some isolation.

Preferred Type: I would prefer to have on-ear > full size > IEMS

Preferred Tonal balance: I prefer more bass heavy head phones with ok mids and highs.

Past headphones: The ones I currently use is a pair of Sony MDR RF985R head phones. My problem with them is I can not take them places with me. Oh? Want to listen to these at friends house? Better set aside some space in the bag for the receiver! Before that I used a pair of Sony MDR NC7. My problen with those is that the part that holds the can part to the head band broke. (I just noticed alot of Sony huh.)

Preferred Music: I typically listen to rap music or electronic music. However, I can be found listening to Monsters and men or Arctic Monkeys now and then.

Location: I live in Ontario Canada. /r/canada FTW!

Considered headphones: At first I was going to buy Philips Cityspace Downtown but they could not be shipped to where I live.

Hello.
I have been looking to purchase headphones since my ath m50 became unusable due to the earpads getting completely torn and worn.
Looking around in my home-country, Sweden, has yielded the result that the ATH M40x might be the most Bang/buck, for around 900 sek or 130 usd. However, upon looking around Amazon, i found "California Headphone Co." with their Silverado and Laredo offerings. Upon looking up reviews, they were very well recieved, and that was for their original price, now being reduced by 80%. For about 900 sek, i can get both the Laredo and Silverado, as well as replacement earpads for my ATH M50, including shipping to Sweden via MyUS.com, since the Laredo and Silverado won't ship from Amazon. My question is therefore, would this be something my fellow headphoneiacs would be willing to fiddle with, for the value of one more pair of headphones as well as new pads for my ath m50s?
I listen to a lot of different kinds of music, but mostly metal along with it's subgenres, and rock, with more "pop" song sometimes showing upon on my playlist. Eventually, i might purchase a NuForce uDAC-2, for use with the ath-m50s and Silverados if that's the case, whereas the Laredos will be used on my phone.

In short, is it worth it?
Huge love and thanks to my fellow redditors!

I am looking for a good pair of bluetooth over-ear neckband headphones similar to this style for running. I have a pair that my wife uses a lot and I just want my own so we don't have to keep switching the bluetooth connection each time. The source will be my cellphone, obviously.

I don't have a price point, but there seem to be like five hundred models around the $30 level, and I have no idea what's better than the other.

Koss Porta Pro is famous for its cost effectiveness. It's even recommended on the Headphone Assistant Mk-II at https://sites.google.com/view/headphoneadvice/on-ear-headphones/koss-porta-pro

Koss Porta Pro wireless is its bluetooth version. https://www.amazon.com/Koss-Porta-Pro-Bluetooth-Headphones/dp/B079ZB9JLL/ It's $79.99 USD at Amazon. I've been using it for months and it's amazing considering its price. Moreover, it supports apt-x and FS(faststream). With FS, you can acheive as low latency as atp-x ll.

I've been doing some research on which headphones might be the best ones for my listening and I have had trouble finding the perfect pair.

I've been looking into buying a pair of open back headphones recently, as I have started getting more into the music and audiophile lifestyle. However I don't know where to start. Currently I'm using the BOSE OE Soundlink, as my everything headphones... and while they're perfect for me traveling and going to classes, they don't have the open sound stage or the power that Id want with something for home listening.

I've looked into it and I narrowed my search down to these three headphones; the
BayerDynamic Dt990's, the Sennheizer HD650's, and the AKG 701's; however, while they're all good quality headphones... I'm not certain that any one of these is exactly what I'm looking for.

This is where i need help, if anyone knows of any headphones that would match my preferences or has any suggestions about the ones I already have on my list, I'd greatly appreciate any tips that can be thrown my way.

My Preferences:

  • under $500
  • something that needs an amp (these will be home use only)
    ----OHM preferably above 175?
  • Doesn't look terribly ugly (I really like how the dt990's look)
  • Has a solid base that i can feel
  • not too sharp in the trebles and high tones.
  • removable wire (not necessary but preferable)

The reviews on the Brainwavz HM9 are kinda mixed. I'm worried it's too bass heavy. As for the SoundMagic HP150, which looks like its what im looking for. The only thing that I was able to find the HP151, which from its only review, says its more strudy.

Hi all, looking to purchase a pair of bluetooth headphones for my mom this christmas. I was looking at these Bose Soundlinks, but was hoping you guys might have other reccomendations.

They must be bluetooth (mic is nice, but optional), lightweight, and a balanced tonal response (no emphasized bass; they're for mom). Long battery life would also be nice. They also must be headphones, not in-ear earbuds. Mom will be using this predominantly on her iPhone 5S while sitting on trains and subways, so some noise isolation is necessary (active noise canceling would be nice, but not required). Try to keep it same price as the Bose I posted, but I can move within a range of ± $100. I'm not sure what kind of music she listens to, or what model pair of earbuds she had used.

Required information can be found below in the table

Question|Answer
---|---
Budget | $250-$350
Source | iPhone 5S
Isolation | Enough to block city commuter noise
Form factor | either on-ear or over-ear
Tonal Balance | balanced overall

Thanks in advanced!

u/gcwill7 · 1 pointr/headphones

Budget - $100 would be a good price, however I’m pretty flexible. Just looking for a good pair that is worth the money and will last a long time.

Source - I was actually wanting bluetooth headphones but was still hoping to get a pair that offers a wired option as well. I will be listening to them on my macbook pro and iPhone 5.

Requirements for Isolation - I would prefer moderate isolation. I like to hear what’s going on around me but still want to be able to hear what I’m listening to.

Preferred Type of Headphone - On-ear (not around-ear), wireless preferred. I’ve found that around-ear headphones are a bit cumbersome for my liking.

Preferred tonal balance - I am in no way an audiophile. I look at the durability and features more than the sound itself. As you’ll see below, my current headphones suck so I’m sure I’ll be satisfied with just about anything in terms of sound.

Past headphones - As of now, all I have is the Apple Earpods so virtually anything will be an improvement to what I have now. The only other headphones I've invested in are Beats Studios. I hated them and hate myself more for buying them. This video helped me see the light (but that's beside the point). I bought them a couple years ago and the only excuse I have is I was young and stupid.

Preferred Music - I mainly listen to Alternative Rock. My favorite band is MuteMath.

Primary Uses - Feel like I should add this one. I will use these for walking to class (the main reason I want wireless) and relaxing in my dorm. I will also used them for some travel.

I have done a bit of research already and have narrowed it down to two potential candidates:

Jabra Revo Wireless - I like these for the build quality, daisy chaining option, and the price. I don’t like that they only come with a pouch as opposed to a hard carrying case. The touch controls also make me uneasy. They are rather unusual and I’m just not sure if they will work well or not for me. Because Staples is running a good deal on them at the moment, I’m strongly considering these.

Bose SoundLink On-Ear Bluetooth - While these are quite a bit more expensive, they are Bose and I know I’ll like them. However, I feel most of the money goes towards the name rather than the headphones. I guess the real question is: are they worth the price?

You don’t have to choose from these two. Like I said, I’m new to this and I’m sure you all know more than I do. What would you get if you were me?

EDIT: In general, I'm more interested in features (bluetooth, music control, etc.), durability, and comfort than I am in sound quality.

u/bman1394 · 1 pointr/headphones

I'm looking for a good pair of Bluetooth headphones. I travel a lot with my marching band and its overall easier to listen to music on the long bus rides without having to deal with cords and wires. I'm going to primarily be playing music off of my phone because of its storage space so the actual music player is not that advanced. The headphones have to be good at isolating sound (loud band bus) but I don't want to damage my ears by having them so loud. I was looking at two headphones in particular and was wondering on your opinions:
The Bose Soundlink On-Ear Bluetooth Headphones
Sony MDRXB950BT/B Extra Bass Bluetooth Headset

Budget - Up to $250
Source - Samsung Galaxy Avant Smart Phone, tablet for watching movies, Nintendo 3DS for mobile gaming.
Requirements for Isolation - A lot, loud band bus rides.
Preferred Type of Headphone - Over the ear or On the ear (as long as it does not hurt after hours of use)
Preferred tonal balance -I really do like bass for my Hip Hop stuff, but I want some balance for my other genres of music. I listen to a lot of Jazz and Classical as well as R&B.
Past headphones - I'm using Auvio Elite series headphones now from radioshack. Sometimes it feels like my music is far away, the bass isn't as good as I want it, has decent isolation.
Preferred Music - Mostly Hip-Hop, R&B, Funk, Jazz, Classical. I also dab into Pop, Rock, Alternative, J-Pop, Electronic

I heard the Bose headphones at best buy using my own music and I really liked them. My only concern is that because they are open headphones that I would be forced to turn them up very loud in order to block outside noise and I don't want to be very damaging to my ears. With my current headphones which are closed ear at most I have to turn up my music 3/4 of the volume. I heard the Sony Headphones only with the preview tracks at Best Buy and that did not have the bass boost on for me to try out. I'm weary about that one because I don't know how it will sound with my music specifically and my device specifically so I don't know if it will be a good match. Also my laptop does not have bluetooth so it's an extra bonus if the headphones have cord adapters so I can use them on my laptop or other computers/devices.

I currently have JVC HANC250s, but I need a microphone to be able to talk to people while gaming. I did some research and it seems like I can do one of two things. Buy a new headset or buy an attachable mic. After some research it seemed like the HyperX Clouds or a ModMic would be my best choices.

So I was hoping to get an opinion on which choice would be better, adding a ModMic to my existing JVCs for $40, or spending an extra $35 and getting HyperX Clouds. Or, if there's a better gaming headset for that price range, those.

The "required" info is below, but maybe not 100% applicable to this situation.

------

Budget - Can spend the extra $30 for HyperX's, but would obviously like to spend less if the trade-offs aren't worth it.

Source - Almost entirely my PC. Definitely no amps or anything fancy.

Requirements for Isolation - Almost entirely used at home, so no isolation necessary. Either way, I could still use my JVCs for travel, etc.

Preferred Type of Headphone - I like my on ear JVCs even if they can be somewhat uncomfortable if I don't sit them correctly. I imagine the HyperXs would be a little more comfortable.

Preferred tonal balance - Balanced would be good, but everybody likes bass. I'm not an audiophile or anything, so it's not a huge deal.

Preferred Music - Going to be listening to music (rock, blues, funk, alternative, etc.), as well as playing games with big explosions and talking to people on TeamSpeak/ventrillo.

Location - Canada

u/bedlamunicorn · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

We have these ones, I think they came recommended from Lucie’s List. They limit volume and have an extra port so you could plug your headphones into them.

I’ll be totally honest though, at 20 months and 24 months my son didn’t care for them. We just had two 9 hour flights and he just watched the Kindle without sound. Occasionally he wanted to listen to music and I just held my phone next to his ear in the car seat with the speaker level low and it worked out. I don’t regret having the headphones on hand, but we definitely could’ve traveled without them and nothing would’ve changed, haha.

Hi there, I'm looking to buy headphones for my wife this Christmas. Since they're for her and not for me, they need to be visually aesthetically pleasing (not giant honking, relatively stylish, etc). I know this is subjective, and they don't need to be sparkly and whatever, but just reasonably stylish/compact.

Budget - $100-200

Source - iPhone/iPad

Isolation - required for flights. Doesn't have to be active, but could be active.

Preferred Type - full-sized, over-ear or on-ear. Not IEM or earbuds.

Preferred tonal balance and Preferred music: - balanced, decent bass for top 40 music and rap, will watch action movies on her ipad.

Past headphones: Apple iPhone headphones.. ya. She's used my Sennheiser HD 25-1 ii and she liked them, but honestly she's not an audiophile. I'd like to get her something with a reasonable sound quality that balances aesthetic appeal.

I am currently looking at the V-Moda Crossfade M-80s, which look like they get a good rating on the headphone guide here. Thoughts on these? How do they differ from the XS model that is double the price?
Thanks!

I posted a few days ago looking for a pair of IEMs and /u/PocketSpoon suggested the RHA S500Is. I bought them from the Apple Store that day and while they sound fantastic, it turns out I don't really like IEMs. I tried several different sizes for the ears, but they were not very comfortable for me and gave me a slight headache. Not a great way to start my day on the train before work. So now I'm looking for something new...

Budget - ~$100, but flexible

Source - iPhone 6S or iPod Classic

Requirements for Isolation - Some would be nice, will be using these mainly for public transportation.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Welcome to suggestions, as long as they have volume and playback control. I'm mainly looking for something on the smaller side.

Preferred tonal balance - Balanced

Past headphones - These will be replacing Apple EarPods and Sennheiser PX 100s. I enjoy the Sennheisers so maybe something similar to those with controls would be perfect.

Preferred Music - Mainly punk/indie/hip-hop, here are some of my favorite artists to aid in a recommendation: LCD Soundsystem, The Descendents, The Replacements, Sleater-Kinney, Weezer, Kanye West, The Hold Steady, Kid Dynamite, Japandroids

I really want a pair of headphones that have the volume, play/pause, skip controls like Apple headphones do.

A friend suggested these Sennheisers, they look nice, but may be a bit larger than I want. Any opinions on them?

Q701 are the cheapest at $170 and have long been known as great for gaming.

The K7XX have more bass. So the Q701 would be a more preferrred for gaming. Because they are somewhat bass light, makes it easier to hear footsteps in competitive FPS. But I prefer the K7XX for music, so better all around, IMO.

So, on to audio! Or, as I'm going to call it, "the second internal conflict your comment has caused me", after the 2x295x2 vs. 970 tri-SLI one.

The source of this conflict is your budget. It's just high enough to give you myriad options, but just low enough that nothing is definitively superior to all others - at least not enough so to really make my life easy. This is because you have enough for one of two options: a pair of high-mid-fi headphones and a very solid DAC and amp, or a budget DAC and amp and a pair of hi-fi headphones. I can't even say with certainty which of these two options is better for you, much less which specific permutation of it is best.

Now I, personally, am in the latter group. I have an O2+ODAC and a pair of AKG K7XXs (and a pair of ATH-AD2700s, but those are a modded headphone I made myself, so I'm a bit skeptical of counting them), but this is only because I am absolutely, unshakably certain that I will be inevitably getting a top-of-the-line headphone (or three, or five, or...), so I wanted to future-proof my audio chain rather than incrementally upgrading my amp and DAC.

What's best for you, well, that, as said, is the question. I suppose it'll have to be a judgement call on your part. Onward, then, to the options:

When I saw your budget, the first thing that came to my mind was a [Sennheiser] (http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/very-important-sennheiser-hd-580-hd-600-and-hd-650) [HD] (http://www.head-fi.org/products/sennheiser-hd-600/reviews/5925)[600] (http://www.head-fi.org/t/634201/battle-of-the-flagships-58-headphones-compared-update-audeze-lcd-2-revision-2-6-4-13#user_HD600) ([$292 from Amazon] (http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Dynamic-Professional-Stereo-Headphones/dp/B00004SY4H)) and an [Objective2] (http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/08/o2-summary.html)+[ODAC] (http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2012/04/odac-released.html) ([279-329 depending on configuration from JDS Labs] (http://www.jdslabs.com/products/48/o2-odac-combo/)). This was partially because the two together fit the price almost perfectly, but more because it is essentially the defining, objectively good neutral pairing. The HD600 has over a decade of being one of the most acclaimed headphones in the world, particularly among the neutral headphones, and is rightly a legend, even though the much more expensive HD800 has replaced it as a flagship. It has been characterized as a headphone which does no genre wrong, with a neutral signature and very, very impressive presentation. The O2+ODAC, on the other hand, are a bit of a newcomer, but one with quite a head of steam. Designed by the great (and possibly late) NwAvGuy, they are one of the few audio chains designed purely around objective criteria and measurements, as detailed in his blog. While he was a very controversial figure himself, you won't find a scientifically-minded person who claims that his Objective stack didn't deliver on his promises. NwAvGuy argued that his amplifier and DAC would be the last most users would ever need, and, having looked over his numbers and listened to them myself, I believe him.

The next option, very closely related to the former, would be [Sennheiser's] (http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/very-important-sennheiser-hd-580-hd-600-and-hd-650) [HD] (http://www.head-fi.org/products/sennheiser-hd-650-headphones/reviews/11436)[650] (http://www.head-fi.org/t/634201/battle-of-the-flagships-58-headphones-compared-update-audeze-lcd-2-revision-2-6-4-13#user_HD650) ([$334 at Amazon] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00018MSNI/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=1944687702&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00004SY4H&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1C3S8VPE3EWK5ZVHWY2E)) and the aforementioned Objective stack. The HD650 is technically the successor to the HD600, based on the same drivers but with some audible tweaks, which show up on their [frequency] (http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/SennheiserHD600.pdf) [response] (http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/SennheiserHD650.pdf) charts. The HD650 is a darker (more bass-prominent) version of the HD600, often characterized as having a "smoother" or more "relaxed" sound. This is no basshead headphone, to be certain, but it's a bit more bass than the HD600, which some people consider to be a significant advantage.

Now, the next option I would normally throw out would be the [AKG] (http://www.head-fi.org/products/akg-k712-pro/reviews/10344) [K712 Pro] (http://www.head-fi.org/products/akg-k712-pro/reviews/9734), AKG's competitor to the HD6x0 series, and the Objective stack. Only one problem: in the last month, its price has exploded from it's normal resting point between $340 and $360 to stand at over $400! The cheapest one on Amazon is [$423] (http://www.amazon.com/AKG-Over-Ear-Mastering-Reference-Headphones/dp/B00E4WXWBE), and most other sites which have it in stock are selling it for $500, seemingly. Nearest I can tell, it's going out of stock at various retailers, and only the expensive ones still have it. This is a true shame, because the K712 is a great headphone: a very neutral sound, much like that of the HD600/650 (though with a bit more bass than neutral, so perhaps closer to the latter), a truly massive soundstage (I consider the K702 Anniversary/K712 Pro/K7XX the defining headphone for classical) and [very capable gaming performance, too] (http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-2-17-2015-x2-partial-evshrugs-x7-review-added). Sadly, at their current price, I can't really recommend them, and the drop for the K7XX just ended on Massdrop, so I'm afraid you're out of luck on that angle.

The next on the "and an O2+ODAC" list would be [MrSpeakers] (http://www.head-fi.org/t/693071/review-mr-speakers-mad-dogs-a-hard-to-beat-closed-option) [Mad] (http://www.head-fi.org/products/mrspeakers-mad-dog-t50rp-mod/reviews/9602) [Dog] (http://www.head-fi.org/products/mrspeakers-mad-dog-t50rp-mod/reviews/9701), the only closed headphone I'd recommend pairing with it (with the amount you have to spend, that is). The Mad Dogs are a modified variant of the Fostex T50RP, but they're widely considered to far, far exceed the stock model. The Mad Dogs are considered a bass-leaning neutral-ish headphone, with very good isolation, and supposedly a fairly solid soundstage for a closed headphone. Though I tend not to recommend closed headphones when open is an option, the Mad Dogs are worth a look for pretty much anyone buying in their budget space, as they're broadly considered to do nothing wrong (much like the HD600).

Onward to the land of more budget amplification:

We can't stop here, we're in planar magnetic country. [Hifiman's] (http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/comparing-world-class-headphones-hifiman-he-500) [HE] (http://www.head-fi.org/products/hifiman-he-500/reviews/5307)[-500] (http://www.head-fi.org/t/634201/battle-of-the-flagships-58-headphones-compared-update-audeze-lcd-2-revision-2-6-4-13#user_HE500) ([$500] (http://www.amazon.com/HiFiMAN-HE500-HiFiMan-HE-500-Headphones/dp/B007ZSYHYU)) is an absolute value legend. One of the cheaper high-end planars (its competitors from brands like Audeze run closer to $1,000-2000), the HE-500 provides absolutely stellar sound for its price at the expense of pretty much everything else. The build, comfort, and power efficiency of the headphones have all been criticized, and its price would stick you with a pretty cheap amp (either a [Schiit Magni 2] (http://schiit.com/products/magni-2) running out of your motherboard's integrated DAC, or a lower-powered DAC-amp unit like a [FiiO E10k] (https://www.buysonic.com/products/fiio-e10k/)), which might not be ideal. On the other hand, as said, many have argued you won't find better sound for your dollar, and there are options for improving the comfort and the like (though those all cost you more, just over time).

Okay, so what if you liked the sound of the HE-500, but the complaints about the comfort (validly) scared you off? Well, Hifiman's got another option on tap for you: the [HE-400i] (http://www.head-fi.org/t/698974/hifiman-he-400i-impressions-and-discussion) ([$425] (http://www.razordogaudio.com/collections/hifiman/products/hifiman-he-400i-full-size-planar-magnetic-headphone-open-box)-[$500] (http://www.razordogaudio.com/collections/hifiman/products/hifiman-he-400i-full-size-planar-driver-headphone), depending on your comfort with open-box items). Though technically a successor to the HE-400 (a rather coloured/non-neutral planar), the HE-400i is generally considered much more neutral, like the HE-500, and the revamped pads and suspension system of the 400i supposedly puts it well ahead of the HE-500 (and the rest of the older series) where comfort is concerned. It's also cheaper, if you're willing to consider open-box items, which would allow you to (just about) fit a full Schiitstack: the [Magni 2] (http://schiit.com/products/magni-2) and [Modi 2] (http://schiit.com/products/modi-2). Considered by many to be just about identical in sound and performance to the Objective stack for less money, the M+M stack is a very, very popular budget DAC and amp, and some people consider them good enough for top-of-the-line cans.

Wow. That ended up longer than I expected. I can throw out some more options, but those would probably be the core of it. There are others I really adore in this range (the AD-2000, for example), but those 5/6 (depending on how you look at it) are some of the strongest options I can think of, particularly for your espoused taste in music. Or, honestly, all music; there's not a specialist on that list.

M40x definitely seems up my alley. Unfortunately I dislike the fact that it seems most people claim they have zero soundstage. After doing some more research I came across Senn Momentum. http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Momentum-On-Ear-Headphone/dp/B00DKPXVEY

Would those be a good balance between portability and having a good soundstage?

Same! This will be perfect for my iPhone X.

(update) Also noticed it’s on amazon now as well:

Is what I use. I don't talk on the phone to much though I find it distracting. But it's been over a year and I have used it a lot. People say they can't hear any background noise. Battery is great and it's affordable. Sometimes it seems like it's a bit quite but that might be me.

The California Headphone Company has their Silverados and Laredos for really cheap. They used to go for $150 and $100 respectively, but I think the company is moving on to iPad cases.

Well if you're looking for headphones I just ordered these, they seem pretty awesome.

We fly with our two year old across the country about twice a year , so we purchased these for her so that she's able to watch movies during the flight.

they're available in different colors and they're pretty affordable. They fit her head great and you can fold them in half and they even come with their own travel bag

Should also note that they come with a fabric cord so the wire doesn't tangle easily, And more importantly they're padded on the sides and top of the head so discomfort will not be an issue during wear! 5/5 would recommend

Location - USA

Budget - $200 U.S. dollars

Source - Lenovo and Dell laptops

Requirements for Isolation - Minimal, using at home

Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - Rarely

Preferred Type of Headphone - Bluetooth On-ear for exercise

Preferred tonal balance - No strong preference

Past headphones - I have tried the Dylan Bluetooth Headphones Linkwitz Wireless Sports Around Neck Headset, the Jarv Joggerz PRO Sports Bluetooth Headphones, and the WhiteLabel MusicJogger Wireless Bluetooth Stereo Headphones. I liked the WhitelLabel MusicJoggers the best for comfort and usability, but all three have had similar problems of reliability and performance (stuttering, not turning on, etc.)

Preferred Music - Mostly listening to television and movies. Music preferences trend folk-y.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I'm looking for a reliable pair of sweatproof, on-ear bluetooth headphones for use while exercising. I don't care for the in-ear headphones, and after trying several different brands of on-ear headphones, I've had the same sorts of problems where the sound starts to stutter or the headphones will not even turn on. I'm looking for a pair that will withstand exercise and sweat and not have these problems.

Any help you could provide would be very much appreciated! Thank you so much!

Erm... No.

You can easily buy bluetooth headphones in the $19-$25 range. For example - source, source, source

Also, the pixel isn't targeted towards some poor African in the developing world, they are mostly buying cheap Chinese brands. Hell, the pixel isn't even available in those places. It's targeted towards middle class (and higher) people in 1st world countries that bought the new iphone like there was no tomorrow. People speak with their wallets and they have spoken. If the jackless iphone was a flop, the new pixel would have had a jack. But it didn't flop. It was a resounding success. What did you think was going to happen?

It's the same as the non-removable battery discussion. People can bitch about it on reddit all they want. At the end of the day the big companies have entire teams that research actual sales. It turns out people buy it like there is no tomorrow.

http://www.californiaheadphones.com/ What about these? They're very sturdy so wont break when you sit on them, however you will need a mic to go with them.

I personally do not like on ear headphones, but was given a pair of Phillips Citiscape Downtown to try and they were much better than I expected. Very comfortable and decent sound. At the $99 price point I would never recommend them, but now at under $40 I would say they are a good buy. I gave my pair to my sister, and she loves them.
