Diagnosed with a dust mite allergy about a month ago.

Washing my beddings once a week in hot water ( along with taking over the counter allergy meds ) makes a significant different in my ability to concentrate and in my energy levels.

---

EDIT

---

Some repeated questions, so here are some answers

  • I was getting really bad brain fog and a lack of energy, so I went to an ENT ( Ear Nose Throat ) doctor.
  • By brain fog I mean difficulty concentrating, difficulty thinking, and feeling sleepy all of the time, like I was drugged. It would start to clear up in the evening, after drinking a lot of caffeine all day and getting out of my dusty office.
  • I was also waking up with a really bad cough, and my nose felt congested all of the time though there nothing to blow out.
  • The ENT checked a number of things out, and ordered a blood test for common allergies.
  • I had the results forwarded to an allergist.
  • The ENT had me on flonase, the allergist said to continue with that, and also told me to take zyrtec.
  • Zyrtec is bad for some people and I am one of them. It gave me worse brain fog and made me sleepy for several days. I called my sister to whine and she revealed to me she also has such an allergy and had a similar problem with zyrtec. My brother-in-law is a pediatricia so he told to just switch to allegra.
  • I take generic ( Kirkland brand, via Amazon for a SUBSTANTIAL discount ) floinaise and allegra
  • I put my mattress and pillows into a hypoallergenic sheaths. Didn't notice much from that, but my mattress is latex so that was already helping.
  • Aside from the drugs, I noticed the biggest difference from washing my beddings ( including blanets ) once a week in HOT water.
  • My allergist and pediatrician brother-in-law told me that most things promoted for dust mite allergies on the web do not work. The major point of contact for dust mites is your bed. If you have such an allergy you will feel you worst in the morning. If you are going to spend money on "stuff" get the mattress & pillow covers, and enough bedding so you can change it weekly.
  • I was also told that dust mites don't survive too well in low humidity. I was diagnosed in the spring, so I just used air conditioning. I might get a dehumidifier for the winter.
  • When I combined the drugs with washing my beddings my head got tremendously more clear, I had more energy, and things that were hard at the gym became much more easy.
  • With dust mite allergies your nasal passageways become inflamed. That blocks more air from getting into your system. Less air, less energy, more brain fog.

Here are links for the bed things I bought. Very pricey. Almost every product had complaints on Amazon. Someone sent me a link to their dust mite blog where he recommended these products & brands. No complaints on Amazon at the time I ordered them.

Get tested before buying or taking anything ( feel free to wash your bedding ASAP though ), as these things are pricey

    ---

    Edit 2019 Oct 28

    ---

  • I had my 3 month follow visit to my first appointment with my allergist.
  • I told her washing the beddings in hot water, the allegra, and the flonaise help, but I still wake up with a cough and congestion
  • She is having me take capsules of sliced & diced dust mite parts to gradually desensitize my immune system to the wee critters.
  • She said I will notice a difference in 6 months, and the treatment will reach its maximum effect in 3 - 5 years.

Go generic or go home, homie.

Seriously, it's extremely cheap to buy generic allergy meds online now. There's no reason to get Claratin over generic Loratadine.

Here ya go buddy, this should help.

Hi! I’m back!!
Although I thoroughly intend to write my birth story when I’m ready, I just finished my first piece since the baby arrived so in celebration, I’ll pair it with something useful.

I really appreciated posts like this while I was pregnant so here goes:

Things I didn’t know I needed:
(AKA things I have frantically ordered on amazon at or around 2am)

Bottle Drying Rack This probably seems obvious, but when we didn’t get this from our showers we were like... idk why we can’t just use a towel??

Safe way to cosleep My husband built a BEAUTIFUL Sidecar Crib, but it was attached on my side of the bed and it took 2.5 weeks for me to have healed enough to climb in bed around it safely with the baby. This way, I didn’t have to bend over to pick up baby or even spit up to check on/soothe him.

Lactation Suppliment My lactation consultant approved. This one worked well in my breakfast tea.

Better flanges My poor nipples were so sore and the flames that come with the Medela... well I’m not sure who they’re supposed to fit but not me. My doula practically ordered these for me. GAME CHANGER.

Pumping bra I was cutting holes in sports bras. This is better.

Nipple Shells Another kind reddittor sent me in the direction of this AMAZING INVENTION after I posted a photo of ice packs tied to my nipples with a burp cloth because I refused to wear a shirt my nipples hurt so bad. I will be purchasing these for EVERY PREGNANT WOMAN FOREVER. They keep your nipples dry, collect drips, apply counter pressure to keep your nipples shaped correctly for latching, and most importantly omg nothing touches the precious nips and you can wear a shirt!!

Car mirror

Me: that seems extra, he’s in a car seat and safe why would I need a mirror??

Hormones; HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH YOU FOOL

Car adapter for my breast pump Cheaper than batteries

Shade for his side of the car because anything that wakes up my sleeping baby is the devil. This one has a bonus that allowed me to roll the window down and it was HOT in the south

Better suction for the breast pump Again- just better than whatever they send you

My Breast Friend we got the boppy but this one saved my back

Heating pad Turns out I’ll do ANYTHING to keep the baby asleep when I transfer him to his crib including preheat the darn thing (on low!) before I lay home down

Stroller Caddy You’ll want somewhere to put your keys, phone, and coffee

Baby K’tan An easier way for my husband to wear the baby.

Leggings I had a pair of these before, and they are SO COMFORTABLE on my postpartum body that I bought 5 more in different colors!

•Extra pump parts for whichever pump you have

•A hands-up swaddle I found at Target

•Wine.

Anyway, hope this helps! Best of luck to all of you!

I think this is something very useful who have Alzheimer's.

I found it on the other days and I think it will fit here as well.

Edit: Found it for someone interested.

Mine:
1 SleepPhones wireless headphones is definitely the best single thing I've got since getting sick. Listening to audiobooks has been one of my main activities but I'd end up with my earbud wires wrapped around my neck. These I can sleep on in any position very comfortably and pull them down over my eyes when it's too bright. Must have.

2 on that note, an Audible subscription is also really good. You can gift books individually or a couple months of subscription time.

3 This heating pad is the best one I've found after much experimentation. Heats up really fast to a good temperature and is very flat flexible so you can wrap it around aching muscles.

4 This massage stick is also very nice for especially achy muscles that are hard to get into. It's really helped me break up some of my worst spots.

5 My wife bought and hung this hammock for me so I could get outside a little. Cheap, works well, and lets me see the sky a little again.

6 A kombucha brew kit has been pretty fun for me, doesn't take much effort for a good payoff, and supports healthy gut bacteria. There's not much more to it than making tea and mixing it in jars with fruit. Plus a lot of waiting around, but we're doing that anyway...

7 Finally, and this one is weird as a gift but it's still helped me a lot, is a subscription to Freshly. Freshly is a weekly food delivery service like Blue Apron or Hello Fresh, but they send you complete ready to heat meals instead of ingredients to cook with. Very high quality fresh food. I think of it as heating up really good leftovers. Been super helpful for me as cooking and doing dishes became too difficulty.

> Also, because stupid people do stupid shit with dangerous stuff, we need to ban it. Because fuck everyone else who uses it properly.
You know what else can blow up a house? Natural gas. And fertilizer (same shit as Tannerite, really). And gasoline fumes. And probably millions of other household chemicals.
Hey, let's ban gasoline because some dumbass tried to use it to light a bonfire and blew himself up. Or hey, lets ban bleach because someone could use it in their toilet and piss in it, making mustard gas!

I'm with you.

So tannerite is basically just a mixture of ammonium nitrate (scary chemical name!), and aluminum powder. Both of these have very legitimate uses that would make regulation nearly impossible. Aluminum powder is useful for model rockets and fireworks, and ammonium nitrate has uses outside of fertilizers. For example, whenever may lab does outreach to schools, we buy it in large quantities in let kids make cold-packs with it since it absorbs a great deal of energy when dissolving. If you've ever held one of those instant cold-packs with a little pocket of water that you pop to activate, you've probably held nearly a quarter-pound of ammonium nitrate in your hands.

Incidentally, I decided to look up a link to purchase those, and I think y'all would enjoy the first review.

http://www.amazon.com/Dynarex-Instant-Cold-Inches-24-Count/dp/B004CQ5NUK

>For those of you purchasing this with Aluminum Powder - 5 micron - 2 Pounds you may find it interesting to know that there is about 6.5 lbs of the active ingredient in this 24 pack, or about $2.70 / lb, a pretty good deal considering others are asking around $5/lb in bulk.

In a nutshell, people being stupid shouldn't affect the supply of useful materials.

Allergies and dust can really mess up the sinuses. Would a Nettie Pot help? Not a doctor so check with yours. Also this type of Nasal Filter may be something to consider.

These are good. 180watt. I have super old one that claims "40watts" but the damn thing will near burn you without the cover.. So I'd assume for the extra thickness this one has, plus the higher wattage it will balance out. I like mine super hot anyway too. Oh and it's got a 2 hour run timer.. So no need for falling asleep with it on for 5 hours waking up thankful your blanket didn't catch fire.

You can buy loratadine (generic name for Claritin) on Amazon for a similar price: GoodSense Allergy Relief Loratadine Tablets, 10 mg, 365 Count costs $12.49.

u/brotherhobbes · 7 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

My GF has heating strip that can be warmed up in the microwave (something like this thing or this one, although a different brand/model). So I pop it in the microwave a couple minutes and she can the lay it on her tummy or wherever it is needed.

The heat from it lasts quite awhile and it has a really pleasant smell. I keep warming it up for her as needed. I also provide back rubs and foot rubs. Rubbing her lower back sometimes helps and the foot rubs just feel great and help her relax.

Something else to look at is what form of birth control you two are using. I mention this because the Tri-Sprintec my GF is taking really, really reduced her cramping and pain. Something to discuss with her OB/GYN and whatever Doctor is involved with this kidney stuff. It took about two months for her body to get used to this birth control, but after that things were much better. Still some pain and cramps, but it is no longer debilitating.

K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple, Stupid. Words to live by!

Gloves. Just your standard Nitrile gloves. I have a box in my closet with about 5 pair in my truck. Although with Texas summers here, I'd bet they've melted together by now. I should really check on that...

Safety Glasses Any brand will do. Just look for ANSI Z87.1. You'll probably never use them, or 90% of what's in your bag, but they're nice to have on hand.

Knife w/seat belt cutter & window punch. This is mine. I keep it on my trucks visor when I'm driving, and on me when I'm not. Cheap and useful. A little big though.

Simple Breathing mask. Always good to have around.

Gauze Rolls & Gauze Pads. I've used these a couple times, all on myself. I have the uncanny ability to fall when running outdoors. It's truly a gift.

Large SAM Splint. Surprisingly I've used two in only a year of building my kit. Once for myself, colles fracture from tripping, and the second time for a friend who slipped in my kitchen. We're not the most coordinated bunch.

And if you're feeling adventuress (sp?), Emergency Blanket, Cold Pack, & a Hot Pack. These aren't necessary, but nice to have if you have some extra $$$ to burn.

This is all i carry in my truck medical wise. It's also a good idea to have a flashlight on your vehicle or in the bag. Don't waste money on anything "fancy". You'll never use them and if you do you'll probably get sued.

I received a pre-stocked jump bag from a family member as a gift for getting my EMT cert. Came with OPA's, C-Collar, Adult/Pedi BVM, & a couple suture kits. These are no-no's. Good Samaritan laws won't protect you if you use these. DON'T BUY/USE THEM WHEN NOT ON A RIG! (The suture kits are another matter...just don't) I took these out of my bag completely.

TL;DR K.I.S.S. Avoid anything a non-EMS person couldn't use.

EDIT: Formatting

Do people not realize that anyone can make this stuff? It's just ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder.

You can get the ammonium nitrate from instant cold packs and aluminum powder is readily available on Amazon if you're too lazy to make it yourself.

seriously it's like a super icy hot or something. Pretty instant relief and it's last as well, I've noticed an almost overnight improvement with with my shins (some parts kicking, some parts minor shinsplints). Especially if you massage your muscles intensely while applying it. I cannot recommend this stuff highly enough.

u/GlobbyDoodle · 6 pointsr/ADHD

I bought this. Best investment ever. Don't have to think about it. Don't have to remember to use an app or write anything down. I can also tell if someone else has opened the bottle!

u/kim_wexlers_ponytail · 6 pointsr/AskWomen

Aquaphor. Not their lip balm, the regular Aquaphor ointment in a tube. My dermatologist suggested it and it's the only thing that's ever worked!

It doesn't have spf though so unfortunately you'd have to use something else with spf whenever you go outside. Chemical spf is often what causes irritation and dryness though so it's kind of a vicious circle...

If you want something all-natural Mongo Lips is my second favorite.

u/PersonalFreedoms · 6 pointsr/researchchemicals

Most Sincere Warnings:

  • Start with threshold doses and wait two or three hours before redosing, nasal bioavailability can be much higher than oral.

  • Nasal administration is absurdly tantalizing when it comes to redoses, to the point you can swear you will only dose X ammount and end up using up your whole bottle in a binge. Be VERY weary of this strong desire.

  • Because of the latter it is absolutely recommended you start with oral dosages so you can better assess the effects in a less compulsive fashion. This way you can research a single day and easily cut off usage for a week or two before the next session. Nasal administration tends to call for more escalation and it can leak into the next day.

  • Please, for the love of Thor, DO NOT MIX FENTS WITH U4, there have already been several lethal and non-lethal Over Doses. This is seriously, utterly, real.

    The Skinny:

  • Caustic substances are horrible when administered on mucous tissue, so a solution is called for. Isotonic saline solution is good enough, cheap, and sterile.

  • Glycerin (Pharmaceutical Grade, UPS Grade, or Pure Grade) is available in most pharmacies as well, it is an amazing substance.
    Quote:
    >Glycerine may be used on every part of the epidermis, including mucous membranes. When diluted to a concentration below 50%, it acts as an emollient and demulcent, finding important applications in ointments and lotions. Preparations for the most sensitive areas of the body-antiseptic, vaginal, nasal, analgesic, dermatological, and burn ointments and jellies-are commonly made of watersoluble bases compounded with glycerine. Glycerine, too, is one of the most widely used ingredients in medical prescriptions. Only water may exceed glycerine in its range of applications.

  • If you use 50% Saline Solution and 45% Glycerin, then you can finally add 5% of Menthol and/or Eucalyptus natural oils or essences (even if they contain some alcohol, the proportion will be too low to be irritant, and the glycerin will protect the mucous from drying up with it). The natural oils give the solution a pleasant smell that can cover some foul odors/taste (U4), and also have healing properties on their own.

Using this information you can then calculate the concentration per dose, in accordance with your delivery system.

The standard pharma quality nasal spray bottle (e.g. 1 and 2) can hold 25ml approximately (to the beginning of the neck) but are usually commercially sold with 15ml in them. They can hold 20ml with no problems at all.

These bottles are almost universally designed to administer .1ml per push, which gives you 10 sprays per ml.
You will have to make sure how many sprays your own particular bottle delivers by doing trials before adding the active ingredient.

So usually 20ml will hold 200 sprays or "pushes".

    The standard RC Market U-47700 spray carries 3mg/spray = 3mg/push = 3mg/.1ml. That is 300mg:10ml or 600mg:20ml.

PLEASE BEAR IN MIND FENTS ARE ABSURDLY POTENT AND SHALL NOT BE DOSED IN THE SAME PROPORTIONS THAN U4, YOU WILL HAVE TO RESEARCH THEIR DOSES

3mg is a threshold dose of U4, so one spray will deliver threshold effects, 2 sprays will deliver common effects, and 3-4 sprays will deliver strong effects.
    Source

Personally I made my first U4 Spray Bottle @ 2mg per spray, so I could be even safer to begin with. I would spray 4 times (8mg) for a full strong dose without tolerance.

Because after having redosed a couple of times spraying your nosetrils 4 or 6 times leaves you with too much drip and sniffing like you have a cold, I decided to make my next spray @4mg/spray, this way I only need one or two sprays.

I recommend you to start with a lower concentration.

TRIALS TO DETERMINE ML PER PUSH

You MUST calibrate your nasal spray bottle.

First, if you will buy an over the counter spray bottle, ensure it is the pharmaceutical grade one.

Pharmaceutical grade sprays have finger "handles" used to pull the delivery mechanism down with your Index and Middle finger, while you hold the bottom of the bottle with your Thumb.

Read the instructions of your Over The Counter nasal sprays and look for said instructions, it they mention pulling with your Index and Middle finger while holding the bottom with the Thumb, then it is the bottle you want.

If the instructions only tell you to push the bottle as needed, then it is not pharmaceutical grade. Usually the "push the belly of the bottle" sprays are meant to deliver solutions without active ingredients. When dealing with any sort of active drug the bottles call for specific pushes per hour and need consistency, they have an obviously more sophisticated mechanism:

Vulgar Nasal Spray Bottle vs Pharmaceutical Grade Nasal Spray Bottle

Once you have your Pharma Grade Nasal Spray Bottle, make the solution with the ratios I recommended above, but do not put the drugs in it yet!.

Say you will make 20ml at your desired concentration

Using proper measuring equipment (in reality you need at least a cough syrup measuring cup with graduation in milliliters) measure 10ml of Saline Solution, mix it with 8ml of Glycerine, and 2ml of Menthol/Eucalyptus Solution, mix well.

You will end with 20ml of solution, pour it into the nasal spray.

Prime the Spraying mechanism (prime means to push it until it shots a full spray) and then count how many full sprays you get out of it.

Bear in mind you will have to hold it vertically to get the very last drops out of the bottle (it helps figuring out to which side of the bottom is bent the straw of the nozzle).

You should get 198-202 sprays out of 20ml.

If you do get .1ml per spray, you are set.

    MAKING THE SOLUTION

Make a new batch of 20ml of the mixture of liquids, and then add the drug.

At this point you should be using a simple kitchen beaker at least.

Pour the liquid mixture into the glass beaker, and add the powdered drug.

I have successfully dissolved 888mg of U4 into 22ml of the liquid mixture.

About 60% of the powder "melts" into the solution immediately, but there are chunks of powder that will stubbornly stay solid.

Do not shake too vigorously because chunks of powder will stick to the walls of the beaker.

Instead heat a big mug of water in the Microwave for 45 seconds, and dip the beaker into the warm/hot water for 30 seconds, then take it out and swirl it slowly for 30 seconds.

Repeat dipping the beaker into warm/hot water and slowly swirling the mixture until all the powder dissolves into the solution.

    Voila!

BE ABSOLUTELY FUCKING CAREFUL, OPIOIDS ARE ADDICTIVE, HABIT FORMING, AND WHEN NASALLY ADMINISTRATED HIGHLY PRONE TO COMPULSIVE REDOSING

SHIT IS NOTHING TO PLAY WITH, HONESTLY

IF IN DOUBT AVOID THEM ALTOGETHER

IF YOU ARE 100% CERTAIN YOU CAN DIP YOUR TOES IN THE WATER, BE READY TO DROWN NONETHELESS SO BE PREPARED FOR EMERGENCIES, AND NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE DRUGS

I gritted my teeth and soldiered through it au naturel, I averaged 4-6 hours a night for the first 4 months or so. I felt like it was rebound everything--I had spent so long in a haze of pot, that suddenly there was so much to do--we can survive on 4-6 hours sleep a night for a few months. Hell, new parents do it, we new leaves can do it too!

What helped me: hot camomile tea and microwave neck wraps.

u/ryzzie · 5 pointsr/TryingForABaby

I am not even kidding, plain old saline spray. You can just keep using it, and it will clear everything right out. I actually have a Netti pot, and it's kinda crazy, but damn does it work well! I have not been congested since I got it. As soon as I feel some congestion coming on I use it in the morning and in the evening, then i keep a small spray of Saline with me in my purse to use during the day.

Also stay hydrated, you'd be surprised at what a huge difference it makes.

I explained this to my dr and she said she wished more people would do this, because it's more effective, and less harmful than other medicinal solutions.

  • Spray can be found at Target, or any other store with a pharmacy section.

  • Netti Pot I think I got mine at Target as well, but most pharmacies carry one. I've had this one a long time and still haven't gone through all the saline packets.

I don't have info about the damage you may have done, but I had chronic nosebleeds as a child, resulting in the need for 3 separate cauterizations, and because of this I have to take very good care of my nose or risk getting a nosebleed at unfortunate times (though it is usually in the morning)

The best advice I can give is to get yourself a Neti Pot and clean out your clogged nostrils. Also I highly recommend using the healing ointment Aquaphor just make sure you aren't allergic. I put a little aquaphor in each nostril every night before bed, and haven't gotten any nosebleeds in over a year.

Change in weather (dry air) also makes my nose dry and more likely to bleed so a humidifier is always an option. Sorry this isn't directly drug related, but I think incorporating these things into your daily routine could be helpful regardless :)

I insufflate varieties of drugs from time to time, and even with my susceptible nose, I attribute my cleanly nose practices to my lack of nosebleeds.

Hopefully this saved you a trip to the doctor's! If these don't work, perhaps an ENT specialist would be your best option.

If you do go with loratadine (generic Claritin), do yourself a favor and buy them online or at Costco. So much cheaper than buying Claritin in stores.

u/vladcat · 4 pointsr/medicalschool

Thanks for the insight. I think people are way too picky (ha) with their nose sprays. Costco also has a 300 day supply of fluticasone propionate for $22.99 on amazon here's the link so that's 7.6 cents per day vs. Nasacort at 28.7 cents per day (more than 4x as expensive)

u/awesomeideas · 4 pointsr/slatestarcodex

I suggest you physically go to a pharmacy or Walmart or the like and buy earplugs in bulk. If you're black, you probably won't be able to find flesh-colored plugs, but for everyone else they'll have something that'll blend in.

I keep two plugs on my keychain in a little aluminum pill case. Remove the o-ring because it'll eventually make the bottom fall off and it's not actually necessary. It feels great being the only one without ringing ears after going to a bar or hearing some live music.

EDIT: This week (in the US) Walgreens has 30% off online orders and I bought a bunch of their "Mack's Ultra Soft Foam Earplugs."

Product name: Dr. Song 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide Advanced Acne Gel

Price (range): ~$20 for 8 oz

Country of purchase: USA

Skin info: Oily and Acne-Prone, Fitzpatrick Type II

Ingredient list: Inactive: water, propylene glycol, glycerine, carbomer, saccharide isomerate, edeate disodium, sodium hydroxide

Benzoyl peroxide content: 2.5%

Special info: Fragrance-Free

Experience & opinion: This is affordable and effective. I do short contact therapy (leave on for 10 minutes and then wash off) to mitigate irritation and dryness I get from using benzoyl peroxide. It's similar to the acne.org version which is available for many countries outside the US.

Edit: I updated the ingredients list. The one I originally posted was an older formulation.

Their isn't a central registry for DXM purchases in TX, as far as I can tell, states even like CA that require an age to purchase (TX isn't actually one, it's just this guy's store policy) still don't have a central registry for one.

That does look like a really good product. For my money though, this cold headband is less than 1/5 the cost and it's met my needs well. I keep 2 at home, 1 at work and 1 at my girlfriends house.

Covering the eyes is probably great sometimes, but I can put this on at the first hint of migraine and wear it no matter what else I'm doing. I'll usually start wearing one of these long before I resort to dark room rest

For the spray you just need an empty bottle. This is the exact pack of bottles I got. They're really good, and it's only like 8 bucks for a 3 pack. The same company sells an amber glass version if you want that instead.

For saline you can do a few things, I had some left over from a medical use I had in the past. I also made some of my own after that that works really well. You could probably find some and buy it if you want, but I recommend making your own. Here's how:

Use distilled water (you can use tap water but make sure to boil it and let it cool before using it). Also use non iodized salt: sea salt, kosher, or table salt, it's all the same as long as it's not iodized because that'll dry your nose from what I read. Once you've got those 2 things, add a cup of water and a 1/4 teaspoon of the salt and a 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda (adjust amounts if you want, this will give you a lot left over). I don't know the purpose of the baking soda but every guide I saw said to use it. Once you got that, then you can make the solution, with either a syringe or beaker to measure the saline accurately and a scale to measure the 4f-mph accurately.

I tried to provide as much info as I could so you don't have to search around. Let me know if you need anything else, I'll do my best. Good luck! This is a great chem and using the nasal spray is my favorite by far.

It's over $10, but my tube has lasted forever and it works incredibly well when nothing else does: Bite Agave Lip Mask

Aquaphor is cheaper and also works great on those days when my lips are a mess.

Also, for what it's worth... how much water are you drinking? I often find that when my lips are really chapped, I need to up my water intake. But the key though is to pace myself and sip more water throughout the day, because chugging a ton of water in one sitting doesn't help my lips much either.

If you are stopping the antibiotics and want to try some other treatments you could try d-mannose. I swear by that stuff! There’s one on amazon that has hibiscus in it also and it’s magical. this one.
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 8oz water twice a day for a couple days works pretty well too. Just don’t over do it on the baking soda!

You should be able to ask for “what do I do at home to continue recovering? This is helping but I need to get an at home program since my therapy is ending. If I go back to training now I’ll injure myself. What do you recommend?” Let me be blunt. If you’re like me you put a smile on your face and say you’re fine. Make sure they know where you’re at pain wise and the fear of reinjuring. This way if they need to get more therapy approved they do that but you should ask for a program to transition to at home. Usually you should get a packet of exercises.

What else can help? Of course autophagy (some of us get really odd pains in areas that it seems to be working on, just so you know it happens
). Tens unit can help with pain. Dr prescribed pain patches (not opioids) called flector patches. You can get it in a cream too. Make sure you check what is cheapest if you’re in the US and if it’s pricey. The cream make sure to wash your hands and keep it away from pets and children. There’s a pill all else fails if you can’t afford patches/cream. The patch contains diclofenac but if you go on this and bruise another option is meloxicam. There are more but those are very common anti inflammatory. FYI do not get on a heating pad in the area with any anti inflammatory patch. The heat makes the meds come out quicker.

Over the counter options. Biofreeze (get the roll bottle) is a nice menthol freeze that helps a lot of people. Buy a heating pad. Get one of the new ones with the plush velvet. They look like this. Pure Enrichment PureRelief XL King Size Heating Pad (Charcoal Gray) - Fast-Heating Machine-Washable Pad - 6 Temperature Settings, Moist Heat Therapy Option, Auto Shut-Off and Storage Bag - 12" x 24" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KVYTV86/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_msnDDbMDZ0K5Q like the prescriptions I mentioned above I would see what the dr recommends if they want you to try an over the counter nsaid. Any NSAID can have side effects I just feel it’s safer to discuss with the dr if you’re on them any significant time.

If you buy a tens if not covered by insurance and need to save a few dollars you can buy a used one that works off eBay. There are hybrid ones that do tens, ems and a few other things if you look up the info and find you want more than tens. The replacement pads for it are cheap so just buy some wherever you find cheapest. Another thing that helps is the gyms warm pool if yours has one. Time in the jacuzzi if they have one. Otherwise a good hot bath with Epsom salts. Good luck!

Hi, I would definitely advise you to stop using antibiotics to treat UTIs. The reason is simple. Yes with the use of antibiotics, you are going to get better. But and a big BUT what happens when it recurs? And it will eventually. People tend to take another round of antibiotics and another without realizing the dangers you are exposing yourself to by taking all those antibiotics.

Try going the natural way. By this I mean manage a healthy lifestyle:

  1. Drink lots of water

  2. reduce caffeine, alcohol and smoking

  3. Start using probiotics

  4. D-Mannose

  5. hibiscus Extracts

  6. Boost your intake of vitamin C'

  7. Try using natural supplements: A good recommendation will be Harmony by Eu Natural. It is made completely from natural herbal extracts like those that I mentioned, vitamins and minerals. and very highly recommended. https://www.amazon.com/HARMONY-D-Mannose-Fast-acting-Protection-Impurities/dp/B016CCG256

Try doing the things I advised and avoid those that I mentioned. Eat healthy food, vegetables, fruits and I guarantee, you will not be needing any antibiotics of any kind
u/dalcadas · 3 pointsr/Healthyhooha

UTI queen here. I usually get 1-2 per month, typically because of a wide range of reasons. Most notably I get them after sex.

All of the things people mentioned already (pee after sex, drink water, avoid this and that, etc.), while beneficial, never did anything but make me stress about UTIs even more. If you’re like me, you’ve accepted that you’re more prone to them no matter what you do, so the most important thing is killing them without turning to antibiotics. (Taking antibiotics that frequently was concerning my gyno because of the possibility of developing antibiotic resistance.)

So now whenever I feel a UTI coming on, or when I wake up in the throes of one, I take high concentration d-mannose pills. You can find them anywhere. I get mine from Amazon. I’ve tried two brands: one and two

I tried #1 first and they worked beautifully! But I switched to #2 because you get more for your money. But I might switch back because #1 is slightly faster-acting. You’re supposed to take them as daily supplements—I don’t cause I get lazy, but they work just as well as emergency meds. I don’t even have to take those AZO pills that make your pee orange (unless it’s a particularly strong infection).

I haven’t had to touch an antibiotic since and my gyno says I’m completely healthy. (I also suck at drinking water.) Good luck!

EDIT: As for yeast infections, I got tired of dropping money on Monistat, so I take a Boric Acid suppository once a week or, when I get one, everyday until it’s gone. For general maintenance, I use Summer’s Eve Aloe Love Cleansing Wash, though I don’t know if that actually does anything. At the very least, it’s not harmful and claims to balance your PH.

u/Sifumohksi · 3 pointsr/migraine

My doctor gave me 800mg ibuprofen to take with my rizatriptan. Some studies show that when combined it actually boosts the effectiveness. Rizatriptan on its own wasn’t that effective, but together it did the job.

Also, my head gets hot so I use an head-wrap ice pack

u/scaredofpants · 3 pointsr/Accutane

For dry hands, I recommend Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter by LUSH. It is hands-down (pun intended) the most moisturizing product I've used on my hands. If that's out of your price range, or if you don't like strong lemon scents, Trader Joe's has a nice balm for a fraction of the price. Still a bit lemony, but fades faster.

For body wash, I've been loving Dove's deep moisture line. All my old body washes and soaps became so drying on Accutane, so I had to make a change.

For face, Aquaphor is a godsend, and is required nightly to seal in all my moisturizer and oils. Moisturizer and oils are pretty personal, I just use coconut oil and CeraVe, but I highly recommend having an open mind and being prepared for some different products. My whole routine changed for Accutane, and that's the case for many people!

Also: SUNSCREEN. Sephora will let you try samples of any products, so I'd advise you go get a bunch of sunscreen samples and see which ones you like. Some leave a white cast; some felt a bit burny due to increased sensitivity of skin on Accutane. I eventually settled on CeraVe's SPF 50--it has white cast, but didn't burn or sting.

Overall, your skin will be super sensitive. I recommend shopping at places with solid return policies, and being patient with your skin. Good luck!

I swear by a Neti Pot.

It feels a little weird at first, but it's the best thing to get all that gunk that accumulates over the weekend out of your nasal cavity. I do it every night during the festival and after it. Something like this one on Amazon will do just fine.

u/Tjerino · 3 pointsr/Allergies

Yeah it sucks.

If you have eye issues you can try Alaway (ketotifen fumarate) eye drops. These take about a week to improve symptoms.

Nasal steroids are now available over the counter (in the US) and work wonders for my sinuses during allergy season, they take maybe a couple days to improve symptoms. You can get Nasacort/Flonase in any allergy aisle, but I just picked up this Costco generic bulk pack on Amazon for super cheap.

Antihistamine pills make me so drowsy I can't really function, so I try not to take them. There are a few, mostly herbal, natural antihistamines and other items that help regulate histamine and allergic response, that I am looking into like quercetin, rutin, Vitamin C, and berberine to name a few. Those might be helpful to you. This article is more about histamine intolerance/mast cell disorders, but has some interesting info if you want to check it out.

Also agree that seeing an MD would be wise!
I don’t know very much about the legal system, but it sounds like you have literal years of medical documentation of her refusing needed treatment. That really seems to me like she should be made to pay for all of your treatment now, as a bare minimum. Talking to a lawyer would be a really good idea, I bet you have some form of legal recourse here.
Also, I have chronic pain and I have a heat pad that I use for at least 4 hrs almost every day, and it has really improved my quality of life.
I upgraded to this huge fancy one a while ago, but there are many cheaper options!

You might get a little relief by getting your feet wet. If your feet get cold from cool water you'll feel a little cooler for a bit.

I could cool down enough to sleep if I dumped water on me and climbed into bed naked and wet (bed directly under fan.)

Get some electrolyte packets from the chemist and mix with cold water. It's good for health generally when sweating a lot but I'm tempted to think that improving the electrolyte balance might help promote better sweating.

I find refrigerating aloe vera gel and then drinking helps make your insides feeling cooler. You can even apply that to the skin instead of the prickly heat powder.

Keeping the neck cool is important (like the feet, the head/neck temp plays a role in determining how your body feels.) I see abroad they even have speciality neck coolers. (Here's one on Amazon.in) Reviews are mixed, but the point is...figure out some way to keep the neck cool.

I've also had a little bit of luck fooling myself with a good quality app that plays sound of rain or a thunderstorm. Like Rainy Mood or Thunderspace and headphones. Try to get lost in the sound of the rain.

Also don't forget your fan capacitor. Your fan might not be working at full speed. I used to be in an apartment with a fan whose capacitor would go bad every year. My electrician would put a new one in for like 300-400rs. Made a huge difference.

You should look into strap-on headbands that you can put ice packs in, or something like this. Having a thing to hold it onto your head, leaving you with both hands free and full mobility, is such a game changer.

I also am on several meds for BP and thyroid issues. I usually store away the few remaining pills when my Rx renews. So, for example, I have a 90 day Rx for my thyroid meds and the prescription renews and I have like 6 pill left. I put them in one of these and tuck it away in my safe.

I do the same with my other meds, and over time I stockpile 30+ days of backup supply for all of them. I then rotate them out as I get renewed prescriptions.

  1. I wouldn't bother mixing it with other products and leaving it on. It could work but you also might dilute to the point where it's ineffective. There are better options. If you really want to buffer it with a moisturizer, apply the moisturizer first and then the BP.
  2. In my experience, the most gentle method is short contact therapy. You only have to leave it on for 3-5 or until it dries. There is no "start with 3-5" because there's no need to leave it on longer. The only time I've ever had irritation from this method is when I've gotten distracted and accidentally left it on for 20+ minutes. I say this as someone who uses a retinoid and acids daily- my skin wouldn't be able to tolerate BP at all if I had to leave it on.
  3. I think most dermatologists would tell you to use it day and night. Here's YoDerm's advice. I apply it twice a day, wait for it to dry down, and wash it off with my AM and PM cleanse. It's the first step in my routine. It might be a better idea to cleanse first, then apply BP to your clean skin but I haven't had any problems doing it the other way around.
  4. You can use it as I spot treatment for active breakouts. But if instead, you apply it consistently to your acne-prone areas, you'll find that it will prevent acne by killing the bacteria that causes it. I apply it all over my face, avoiding my eyes.

When you've finished the Persa-Gel, I recommend this 2.5% BP. It's a much better value ounce for ounce. Also, 2.5% is just as effective at killing bacteria as 5% and 10% but it won't irritate you nearly as much.

    Good luck!

I don't have endo, but I can empathize a little. My last period had me doubled up, crying all night, and wanting a lot of booze, chocolate and potato chips.

Not sure if you're on any medications, but have you tried red raspberry leaf tea? I found it really helps with the pains, although the taste is a bit like steamed artichoke. (Not fruity blank tea like they claim at all.) I found drinking a cup or two a day as soon as I knew I was getting ready to start reduced the cravings, bloat, discomfort, cravings and the gastro issues I get every month. (Last month was bad because I was out of tea and I started cramping at like.... 3 am. :( )

Also, my Bed Buddy is my friend that week.. Putting heat either on my hips or my lower back helps so much. I even take it to work with me.

Yoga helps take some of the monthly stress and ease my cramping. There's a few sites with recommended poses. I don't know if it helps with endo, but maybe?

As far as your goal, remember that it's long term. Even if you have a little something sweet right now to tide you over, it's temporary and you will still be ahead overall. Just, don't beat yourself up or let yourself get defeated if you relax a little. And don't look at the scale this week. If you're like me, you retain 3-4 pounds of water and it's SOOO discouraging to see, even if you know it's there and why.

Hang in there.... you still got this!

So...I never been to Arizona & I just started riding this spring (winter/summer, stupid Smarch weather). But I was in Iraq and Kuwait. Obviously, I was not riding motorcycles over there. Instead, I was driving semis without air condition* all while wearing the uniform & helment & flack jacket & bullet proof vest*. All that gear in 110+ weather. It was miserable. The only thing we could do was DRINK WATER. And lots of it.Get a camelbak and just drink water.

Also, something like this is amazing! They can apparently be made easily, though I never made them, only had them in care packages :) A lot of blood pumps through your neck and keeping this cold thing on your neck helps keep that cold and thus you cold. Well, cold isn't the right word. Not hot is a better way to describe it.

And you will eventually become accustom to hot climate.

Seriously, who the hell pays $500 do REMOVE the A/C from a truck? The Army, that's who!

Robitussin is the common brand name, but they also make varieties mixed with with other drugs now, you need to look at the ingredients and make sure what you're getting is nothing but Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide (DXM hBr). DXM Polistirex is also valid, though worse for the inexperienced; it's an extended-release variety that causes a weaker high for 3x as long (commonly sold as Delsym).

Robafen is a generic brand commonly available online. It's DXM hBr in gel capsules, which are way easier to swallow by the bottle than cough syrup. Buying it is legal in most places, including America.

As with any drug, do some research first. DXM has a reputation as a legal alternative to "real" drugs, but it's a serious high, not to be taken lightly. Erowid is the best place to start. https://erowid.org/chemicals/dxm/

You can buy Robafen liquidgels on Amazon. They are the same as the Robitussin ones, but a little cheaper. They sell them in bulk too.

It’ll only show on your bank statement as an Amazon purchase.

I lived on Excedrin Migraine before getting pregnant. When I'm getting a migraine now (I get the typical "aura" so I know it's coming) I take two Tylenol and drink some soda. Then I sit with an ice pack head and on for about 30 mins. This has worked each time and stopped me from progressing into full blown migraine. This is the ice pack I use It was the first thing I bought when I found out I was pregnant. It looks silly but has been a life saver.

Been there, done that, albeit not from cycling. Owwwww.

Fiber is good, the real deal (from apples, prunes, grains) is best but I also take a Metamucil pill with my vitamins every night.

Witch hazel is your friend. Grab a jumbo bottle for $3 at the drugstore. Also, this stuff is magic; it smells kind of musty out of the tube but it was the only ointment that actually helped the pain.

My ENT said I probably had some allergy, but we never tried to figure out what I was allergic to.

After the surgery, he put me on a nasal spray that I used daily. The prescription expired and I looked at what’s in the spray and it turns out it’s basically a combination of Flonase and Claritin. So I have been ordering those from Amazon and taking those daily.

Maybe if you do the same, it might be good for you. I’m not a doctor, so it’s only a suggestion. The two are over the counter, and either I’m used to them or they have no noticeable side effects.

The claritin https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074F18H5N/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The Flonase https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H40O42I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It’s basically $35 US for 6 months supply.

Oh my goodness, yes! Boil hot water and cut up an inch of ginger root. Let the cut up root soak in the water for 5 mins and drink. I have cysts on my ovaries (ew TMI, sorry) so my cramps are often times so debilitating that I've wound up in the hospital on several occasions. I feel like I've got the dealing-with-horrible-cramps thing mostly down to a science.

Automatically take 3-4 Advil, right away. If you have one, heat up a rice heating pad in the microwave for 1-2 minutes (depending on how hot you can take it). Then make your tea as the rice is cooling down to an acceptable place-on-body temperature. Find a comfy place to rest and curl yourself into a fetal position with the rice pack on your uterus area, drink your tea slowly, and wait for the Advil to take hold. This usually makes a day of not being able to do shit because I'm in mind boggling pain from cramps turn into a simple half hour or hour of annoying pain, then I'm well on my way to productivity again.

I'm not sure if you can get your hands on these things in Europe, but Cetaphil works great as your cleanser. Also, this stuff is pretty much the same as the BP you get from the regimen. For a moisturizer, I would recommend Cerave in the tub or Cetaphil for a runnier lotion, to which you can add a few drops of jojoba oil (you can purchase it on ebay), assuming you're not sensitive to fatty alcohols.

smallest/cheapest smellproof case (Makes no sense to me that this case costs more than the next one, this one's build quality isn't as high at all.) $25

Slightly larger/nicer smellproff case $20

Large and spacious smellproof case $30

I also had heat intolerance as a very early symptom. I loved summer as a kid, and 5 years ago, I thought I was dying. It felt like I was carrying weights on my arms and legs. I thought I was having a stroke, because I wasn't making any sense when I was speaking.
Now that I know this about myself, I am super careful on the subway, and being outside in general. I use these headbands, and honestly, they are awesome. I highly recommend them to anyone who has heat intolerance.

Do you have a cat (or dog, but I think cats are better at this)? Because I once read a post about forgetting to take meds, or in this case, T, where every time you take those meds at a certain time or on a certain day, you feed the cat a specific treat. After a while, they come to expect food at that certain time on that certain day and they WILL yell at you and follow you around the house until you do it. I know it's kind of silly, but I've had friends who said it worked for them for taking certain types of medication and things. '

Also, they sell pill bottles with caps that have screens on them that tell you how long ago the bottle was last opened. You could put the vial of T inside the pill bottle? So you know when you last opened it and took it?

(PART 1) I couldn’t fix my painful dehydrated skin until i incorporated urea and lanolin, and regular use of petrolatum into my skin care. But idk how you feel about those... It took me a good year or year and a half to fix my dehydrated skin from overexfoliation.

Also, putting on occlusives right away after you wash and put on humectants is super important. Otherwise it can dry you out more.

So what I do is use a very gentle, non-foaming cleanser (I use LRP Gentle Hydrating) and while my face is still wet, put on all my hydrating toners and serums. Then go into lotions and creams RIGHT AWAY. You can watch Dr. Dray on YouTube who describes why this works.

When my skin was SO full of pain, from extremely dry, tight skin and irritated acne-like cysts everywhere, the only thing that didn’t hurt like a mf was Vanicream. It took me hundreds of dollars and tons of trial and error and babying my skin to get it back to normal. Now I can use AHA, azelaic acid, vitamin c, and even tretinoin and hydroquinone without a problem!!!

It took me hundreds of dollars and tons of trial and error and babying my skin to get it back to normal. Now I can use AHA, vitamin c, and even tretinoin and hydroquinone without a problem!!!

No one or two products fixed my dehydrated skin. It took a TON of research over the years learning which ingredients were the most healing, moisturizing, how they work, etc.. And an entire routine around hydrating and moisturizing as much as possible.

And i know everyone raves about the cosrx snail essence, but it didn’t do shit when my skin was that dehydrated. But there IS some evidence of snail healing damaged skin. The point is to put in as much healing and soothing ingredients into your routine as much as possible.

I always make sure to include ingredients like: panthenol (derivative of vitamin b5), allantoin, urea, hualuronic acid, glycerin, aloe, colloidal oatmeal, ceramides (huge!!!), niacinamide (especially useful for brightening and healing your skin), petroleum (there is NOTHING out there that reduces transepidermal water loss like petroleum can. I tried to be all ~natural is better~ for a while, but realized it wasn't doing anything to help fix my skin), etc.

And not just adding these helped fix my skin, but leaving things out was a HUGE step in finally letting my skin heal. I avoid these like the plague: fragrance, natural (essential oils) or synthetic, alcohol anywhere other than sunscreen, sodium lauryl sulfate (sodium LAURETH sulfate is the gentler one, but I avoid that for my face too anyways. Any surfectants can be aided to be milder by adding cocamidopropyl betaine), all acids until my skin could handle them (interestingly enough, vitamin c serum actually helped my skin hold more water instead of hurting me), and things that I know irritate my skin.

Things that were/are biggest contributors of keeping my skin moist and hydrated, in no particular order:

Thayers Unscented Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel - the first thing that goes on my skin after washing. It's just water, aloe, glycerin and witch hazel. It's so simple but idk why my skin likes it so much, lol. It's HG for me.

Hadalabo Premium Lotion - HG, must have. ALWAYS put occlusives on top, do not wait for it to dry. Hyaluronic acids, urea, algae. This is my one non-negotiable skin care item.

Aveeno Eczema Therapy Cream - Super moisturizing. Colloidal oatmeal, glycerin, panthenol, petrolatum, a ceramide, dimethicone. (Also, people demonize silicones, but they are not bad ingredients. They are actually really helpful in keeping in moisture, providing slip, and smooth feel for skin and hair. And no, they don't prevent other things from reaching the skin.) And Aveeno Eczema Therapy Night Time Balm for something heavier but has same ingredients. You can use both.

And of course, CeraVe Moisturizing Cream - ceramides, cholesterol, must have skin-identical lipids that dehydrated skin lacks, hyaluronic acid, petrolatum, dimethicone. This by itself didn't help a whole lot, but with an army of all the different gentle, soothing things, it helped tremendously.

CeraVe PM- same as the cream, but much lighter and has 4% niacinamide I believe. Niacinamide has been key to helping my dry-ass skin. It does SO many things. I DIY 6% niacinamide and 5% n-acetyl glucosamine to boost the niacinamide even further. But you can find this ingredient in loads of AB things and Olay products. Make sure the Olay stuff is fragrance-free if you get them. I like the Olay Anti-Aging Face Cream a lot. You can use the CeraVe lotion if you for some reason can't tolerate niacinamide, but want something lighter than the cream.

Aquaphor Healing Ointment - SLUG LIFE is a MUST if you have dehydrated skin. You can use Cerave healing ointment too, but it's redundant if you use the cream or lotion. It's not as occlusive as aquaphor. Aquaphor isn't just a more pricier Vaseline as people suggest. It does have white petrolatum that is oh-so helpful, it also has healing ingredients like panthenol and bisobolol, and also lanolin alcohol and glycerin for humectants. I put on a THICK layer of this when I go to bed.

If you wanna go a step further and go super saiyan, and you aren't sensitive to lanolin, you can use Lasinoh Lanolin before or after Aquaphor. I can't stand the smell of lanolin, but this one is medical-grade and doesn't have a smell. Lanolin is SUPER helpful because of it's crazy humectant properties but it also acts as an occlusive.

For just uber Panthenol healing, you can get something that stars Panthenol as the main star ingredient, like DML Forte Cream or Timeless Skin Care Vitamin B5 Serum. I don't use the cream anymore, but I do still use the serum. It looks expensive, but if you get the refill sale, it's about $7/oz (idk what country you live in, but this is the price for me in the U.S.). I HIGHLY recommend their vitamin c, e, ferulic acid serum as well when your skin can handle it. It works out to about $8 an ounce if you get it during refill sale. It stays good for a while in the fridge. I wrap it in foil and transfer it to a 1 oz dropper bottle for using it in my bathroom. It gives glow to your skin like NOTHING ELSE, and boosts your sunscreen (the antioxidants slow the degradation of sunscreen ingredients, giving a huge boost to your sunscreen) and has helped me with water retention. If you can't get it on refill sale, use the HotandFlashy (I also recommend her Youtube channel) code hf5off to get $5 off. It's a forever coupon code.

hey there, now the problem with antibiotics is that if the UTI recurs, like you said you are going to be put on another set of antibiotics. The risk with this is quite high for your health. I would advice you to try natural remedies. I am going to give you some tips that will help when you have a UTI and to prevent new ones.

  1. Use D-Mannose. D-mannose is a natural sugar that sticks itself to E.coli which is the bacteria responsible for UTIs. It is then easier to flash it out of your system by drinking more water.

  2. The second item is Hibiscus extracts. Hibiscus has some really amazing health benefits and will go a long way to fight infections in your system

  3. Eat Probiotics. These are healthy bacteria that help to fight against the bad bacteria. Yogurts for example

  4. Boost your intake of Vitamin C by eating fruits like oranges

  5. Consider some supplements preferably made from the items I mentioned. A good recommendation is Harmony by Eu Natural ( https://www.amazon.com/HARMONY-D-Mannose-Fast-acting-Protection-Impurities/dp/B016CCG256). This is by far the safest and most effective remedy I have come across.

  6. I briefly mentioned but I will like to stress it again. WATER! Drink lots of water not only during UTIs but on normal days as well

These are some tips from me, I hope you find them useful

Klim makes the ultimate hot weather helmet.

Also conditioning makes a big difference. Make sure you are well hydrated and eat plenty of salty food leading up to the ride.

I've used flexible ice packs on my back with a soft back belt to keep my core temp down. - https://www.amazon.com/JellyBeadz-Therapy-Cooling-Bandana-Scarf/dp/B004XX4XA8 - Keep these in ice cold water, throw one around your neck, and you will stay cooler longer. I ride in 100 degree temps in the woods here in Texas, and this is what I do. I can ride for 20 minutes or more before I really start to feel the heat. Without it, I can't even last 20 minutes in the heat.

Assuming you don't have access to a doctor try drinking cranberry juice. It is acidic and will make it harder for the bacteria to survive. But try to get 100% cranberry juice not the more popular version that has like 27%. It may be bitter but it's more effective. Also I used these pills and they definitely helped. They are better at preventing a UTI than treating it though. Take them like a half hour before sex or sounding and it should prevent or lessen the UTI. Harmony D-Mannose - Urinary Tract UT Cleanse https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016CCG256/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_z8wPDbHNP29V3

But going to the doctor is the best because a UTI can spread into you kidneys and become serious if left untreated. But I have found it also depends how you get the UTI. If it's from normal sex instead of sounding you may have more time to try home remedies before it advances into the kidneys. Also sometimes you only get a minor infection and the home remedies will be enough but if you get a fever it's advanced and you should get antibiotics.

  3. Pour 15 ml saline with aloe in one of the Snoot! Nasal sprayers.

I put my vitamins on the monitor stand next to my monitor at work so I remember to take them while I'm eating lunch, or right after lunch. But as a student, not sure that would work.

Could you get a small pill carry tube thing like this and put it onto your keychain and set a daily phone reminder to take your pill? If you get sublingual, you won't even need water around or food in your stomach.

My memory has always been pretty bad, so I rely on calendar reminders and phone alarms to get me to do a LOT of stuff. LOL.

I would suggest using the following nasal sprayers:

http://www.amazon.com/Pharma-quality-Nasal-Pump-Sprayers-3-pack/dp/B00H0LBEGQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1453150984&sr=8-3&keywords=snoot+sprayer

They are convenient and work well in the context of a research lab.

U-4 is generally caustic and will damage mucous membranes if applied directly as a dry powder, tantamount to animal cruelty. A 0.9% wt NaCl solution is suggested for dissolving the U-4. Solubility will be roughly 20 mg U-4 per gm of Saline solution used. I would suggest aiming for 15 mg U-4/mL however, to prevent precipitation of the compound at colder temps and to prevent clogging the sprayer. The aforementioned nasal sprayers deliver approximately 0.1gm of solution per spray, equating to approximately 2 mg per spray for a 20mg/gm saturated solution.

The best salt for making up the saline solution is Morton's non-iodized salt, finely granulated and free flowing. Make sure to keep the salt stored in a dry place to prevent clumping via moisture absorption. I suggest doing everything gravimetrically instead of volumetrically, due to ease of use and higher accuracies obtainable. Use a mg scale to weigh the U4, and operate in the higher ranges of it's scale (for instance, weigh out 100-400 mg of U4 at a time and make 5-20 gm of solution at a time or more, at 20 mg/gm saturation). Use a common 200 gm capacity 0.1 gm resolution scale for weighing out the liquid solution. Each spray, at 20 mg/gm solution, will deliver 2 mg of U-4. Always test it out with 1 spray at first, you don't want to kill off your animals because someone sent you the wrong thing. Make sure to wait at least 2 hours after the first test before continuing. When using the saline solution, it shouldn't damage mucous membranes, even after weeks of testing. All of this information is for the hydrochloride salt.

I also suggest using amber glass bottles to store, to both prevent bacterial growth and promote compound stability. If you see stringy substances in the solution after a while, throw it out. Bacterial lung infections are not worth the cost. I also advise against using propylene glycol as a co-solvent for the same reason, to prevent bacterial growth. PG is a sugar, and bacterial will grow on it. Ethanol (190 proof in the US) is a good solvent, but is very harsh on mucous membranes. Store unused compound for up to two weeks in the fridge. If you need to store it for longer, loosen the cap on the bottle and freeze it. Re-tighten the cap after freezing. When you are ready to use, loosen the cap, and let the bottle thaw at room temp, and make sure the substance fully redissolves.

I would also suggest against using heat to get it into solution, as it will just eventually precipitate, and you will damage your equipment. If you want to fix the nasal sprayer, run straight D/I water through it until the clog resolves. Do not do testing on a daily basis, eventually life will lose meaning for your animals.

My absolute favorite is this oversized heating pad. It doesn’t get too hot to burn but hot enough to bring down the pain, and turns off after awhile. Full disclosure, I fall asleep with it on the highest setting all the time and have never gotten burned.

Although, this is another one of my favorite options. For me, the heat from water is much more therapeutic (see my massive water bill for the several hot showers a day I take haha). But this is like an old fashioned rubber hot water bottle. A lot of them come with cute covers on them. You pour hot water in it and it literally lasts the night.

Of course you can bathe them yourself. And in-between water bathing/shampooing, you should simply brush to deshed. Doing this daily will help tremendously. Use a deshedding tool to do so, buying one based on the size of the dog (need a bigger brush for a bigger dog). If they have the kind of coat that gets all up in the air when you brush them, you might want to consider buying disposable dust masks as well.

Also, for frugality, I recommend buying allergy meds on Amazon also. I use this generic version of Zyrtec which has 365 tablets for $19. That's basically a whole year of supply of the drug. You could also try fluticasone (Flonase generic) as a nasal spray. As someone who has 3 cats but is allergic, these two drugs make my life livable.

Yes, generally I don't just chop off fingers for the heck of it. His thumb got caught between the rope and a draw while he was falling somehow and it seperated at the joint. Which I don't think is all that common but it can happen.

As for the ice pack, prepare to be amazed: http://www.amazon.com/Dynarex-Instant-Cold-Inches-24-Count/dp/B004CQ5NUK

Swamp cooler if you're in a hot dry region. They don't work as well in hot humid weather.
Roof vents.
Lots of open windows, mosquito netting if needed.
Shore power and a 110v air conditioner.
Cool neck wraps

Stay 🅱️ydrated.

It's not just a meme, you actually need to drink a ton of water.

Also, buy one of these guys, they're great

Liniment Oil, and I've heard this stuff is good

I used icyhot until I took a nap and woke up freezing despite the fact my house was a comfortable 70 degrees... The liniment oil stuff seems to apply better and doesn't leave as much residue

Consistently taking our meds is the single biggest thing we can do to prevent relapses. I used the pill boxes at one point, but those quickly become a pain to refill every week.

I've switched to this, which works perfectly for me.

Slip ups happen. It's ok. I'm glad for you that you were in your childhood community. A young man who grew up here recently had an episode on the street (not mental health related) and we all just felt sad and worried that this sweet boy we saw grow up was having a tough time. I'm sure your neighbors feel similarly. Like someone else said, keeping meds on your person and setting a phone alarm can help keep you healthy and on track. My family uses these https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HF2UCEU/ref=mp_s_a_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1540052707&sr=8-4&keywords=pill+keychain+container&dpPl=1&dpID=51cBPh2fDoL&ref=plSrch
They have been a real lifesaver.

This is the one I used, it’s exp but worth it. Make sure to drink tons of water consistently but after you take it wait about an hour before you drink more so it won’t be diluted.

If you end up ordering from amazon, to help w the pain take AZO and just keep drinking water. Cranberry juice does nothing.

EDIT: ALSO pee always after sex and wipe front to back

this has been decent to me, but others in the comments have had trouble (not many, less than 4% of people who bothered to leave a review)
i used some napkin or an earplug to keep them from banging around

Get one of these (or 2 so you can swap them out and always have 1 cold). For many, cold can provide some extra relief and these are awesome because you don't have to hold it and it's gel, so it's flexible and doesn't get as cold.

I'm 30 and I have had migraines since I was in middle school, so I've had some time to learn my triggers. Heat, bright light, and physical exertion are my biggest ones (I live in Florida... the cruel irony). I do have some food triggers though and I learned by going on keto that carbs/sugar is one of them. I've been on keto 2 years now and it has definitely helped. I have been using Migraine Buddy to track my migraines since March, and according to it I have had 19 migraines. That comes out to one every 1.7 (8 x 4 / 19) weeks on average. I wasn't tracking before keto, but it definitely felt like it was more often than that.

I saw this product on the TV show Shark Tank and many of the Amazon reviews swear that it works great for allergies.

I've never used them myself but if I was in your shoes I'd try these out and see if they work.

u/BenzoV · 1 pointr/pittsburgh

I take generic claratin daily when I wake up and a couple hours before bed. Then I use generic flonase as needed when allergies flare up. Neti pot and saline rinse do help sometimes as well, especially in the morning.

The generic flonase was a lifesaver for me, I was constantly irritated no matter what allergy pill I tried (I tried nearly all of them). They all help a bit, but the flonase helps actually stop my acute symptoms of uncontrollable sneezing, and itchy eyes and nose. It also works relatively quickly.

Well smoke is bad for your lungs lol. You could eat edibles I guess tho.

I love this stuff personally and thai oil. https://www.amazon.com/White-Monkey-Holding-Peach-Medicated/dp/B00OVLH3UY I got a bulk 5 pack of this and some of this stuff too https://www.amazon.com/Namman-Muay-Boxing-Liniment-120ml/dp/B001ON8ZN6

So the methyl salicylate in this stuff basically turns into aspirin which kills the pain. I hear it isn't a good idea to bathe in this stuff but then again, the thai fighters do it so idk...

u/Kwazimoto169 · -3 pointsr/fo4

Sounds like you could use some of this.

u/ham4radio · -8 pointsr/legaladvice

non-legal advice: I saw these things on shark tank and they might help with the bronchitis? Maybe? I don't know?
