I mean, if it's a hardware problem then it probably does fall on Huawei's shoulders. They are the ones that are responsible for the manufacturer warranty as stated in the 6P's packaging.

Edit - For anyone curious about what Huawei covers in their 6P manufacturer warranty (In US), just download the warranty PDF they offer on Amazon where they directly sold the 6P themselves.

Also, if smart phones were considered a right, there's no way you'd get an iPhone. Probably something more like a Moto E if you're lucky, or something like a BLU Advance A4 if you're not. No way in hell government is gonna hand out $800+ smartphones if everybody is getting one.

u/Tezaku · 11 pointsr/toronto

Your story doesn't seem to add up? Retails for $85 Canadian? Amazon has it for $370 and in the US it is retailing for about $200

Doesn't seem Freedom is doing anything incorrectly based on their website. You can't really blame them for not doing your research. It's like if I blame Nissan/Chrysler for buying a vehicle at MSRP when they openly offer thousands and thousands of dollars of discounts

Without inside information it's impossible whether the factory is actually producing phones still, but they are still available new in all finishes from Huawei, so the supply of them is certainly still there.

u/cyborg005 · 5 pointsr/MotoG

You sure do have options! Depends on what you are looking for. Here are a few that I would consider good mid-rangers that would deliver bang-for-buck specs and are all very likely to get Nougat or already have it. All of these are 4.6' - 5.2' (Moto G1 was 4.7), and I listed them from smallest to biggest screen size.

u/yetimind · 5 pointsr/ProjectFi

are you with Fi because of a particular reason (such as multicarrier support, or international calling, or datasim, etc)? if you like those features, you might need to suck it up and stay with FI, with or without purchase of their phones.

if not, you could buy a great phone for around $200 and use it with /r/mintsim.

u/BringBackTron · 5 pointsr/teenagers

Buy a cheap Android phone like this. Keep it with you and use it for Reddit and whatever. When you’re with your parents, use the iPhone to act like your still using it. If you need help buying it, you can buy a Amazon GC on a subreddit like r/GiftCardExchange or pay cash at a Walmart for one there or something. Then buy it now on a guest account so it can’t be tracked to you. You can also pick it up at a Amazon locker, or ship it to a friends house so your parents aren’t suspicious. Hope this helps :) Lmk if you have any questions

Is there a specific reason you only want to use the Play Store?

u/Lilin_unite42 · 4 pointsr/konmari

Yes, I've been through this process many times!

I hate smartphones for so many reasons. The expectation of being constantly available to your screen. The goddamn size of them -- even when I'm wearing clothes with good pockets, I'm a small woman! There's only ROOM for so much pocket ON MY BODY! Smartphones have basically forced me into carrying a purse.

I went back to dumbphones for about a year but, like you, eventually the need for maps got the best of me. Honestly it was the only thing I missed, but I REALLY missed it. So I wound up back with a smartphone, and once again vaguely pissed off about all the things about it I hate.

Now I'm trying this. It's a dumbphone sized smartphone that's snappy enough to not frustrate me, but not high powered enough to let me disappear into a screen when I should be engaging with the world. It'll do maps, which is really all I care about, and I can finally get rid of the damn purse again.

I am planning to start a KonMari Pt 2: The Digital Hoard in the next few weeks. Transferring over to this smaller phone full-time is gonna be part of that.

I have all of my electronics gathered in one place, and I'm planning to do a major declutter of all photos and files. I have a server, so I want everything backed up onto it, and then my actual daily use devices to be clean.

Then once I've done that, I'm going to tackle... email. I'm NOT looking forward to it, but it desperately needs doing!

Sony Xperia X is your best choice if the price of the Pixel or S7 is too high.

u/sunjay140 · 3 pointsr/Android

I recommend the Sony Xperia XA for $200.

The Xperia X for $300 is worlds better.

u/niftydl · 3 pointsr/tmobile

LeEco Le S3 is a good option, full T-Mobile VoLTE + WiFi calling support with a Snapdragon 652 (X8 LTE modem for carrier aggregation) for $200. The downsides: 32 GB of internal storage without microSD support and no headphone jack (digital adapter). Camera is meh.

u/ctaps148 · 3 pointsr/Android

You could grab a OnePlus 3 for $375, or a ZTE Axon 7 for $380. If you're willing to extend that budget by $28, you could get the OnePlus 3T, which definitely has enough improvements to justify the extra money. If you happen to have Amazon Prime and you're willing to deal with some ads on your lock screen, you could get an LG G6 for $400.

Those are all coming from official retailers, of course. If you're willing to go eBay, you could probably find most of the top phones from last year new-in-box for less than $400. I personally just bought a brand new LG V20 a couple weeks ago for $370.

But if you really want a phone that came out this year, these are all of your options between $275 and $400 and most of them either aren't very good or aren't available in the US. (Assuming you're from the US...if you're not, then you should probably stipulate which country.)

just upgraded from AT&T and an iPhone 4 to ting and the [Sharp Aquos Crystal] (http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-Crystal-Silver-Contract/dp/B00O15E3MQ). It is easy to activate, looks gorgeous, and is a great price. i was skeptical and reluctant to get a $130 phone and saw it as a downgrade to my iphone, but i am really pleased. the 4G is very nice, smooth operation, and great battery life. the only downside is the camera is not a good as more expensive phones, but i can do with grainy pics.

Hopes this helps!

RIP Motorola Phones (Even if it's Global GSM Unlocked)

I was hoping the Motorola Moto G would be listed. Then again, I'm not sure if Cell phone stores in Japan offer Motorola phones. Might as well check out these other phones listed.

Also just a curiosity; Does anyone own a Aquos phone like this?

u/mcatominey10 · 2 pointsr/PickAnAndroidForMe

Not sure how much you can get a G5 plus for, as others have suggested for, but the Sony Xperia X just got a price drop in the US to $215, Amazon and B&H.

I've been trying to decide between the two phones (in the UK) but have been put off the G5 plus due to people saying Motorola are very slow to update their phones.

Edit: Whoops, didn't realise it had an affiliate link to Amazon. I got the link from Android Police. I've updated it now.

I'm thinking of getting the OnePlus 3/3T and I have some questions:

  1. What is the difference between International and what seems to be the US version? I have T-Mobile and I just wanna be sure that I can use the International version(which is currently available) to its full extent as opposed to the other one.

  2. I doubt many have owned both the 3 and the 3T, but are the differences worth it? It's a $50 difference.

  3. I'm also looking at getting an Honor 8 instead, but from what I'm reading, the OP3 has a much higher benchmark at a similar price. I've also read that Honor 8 has a better camera. And I personally like the look more, but that's not too important.

Any other suggestions or comments, please post. I need a phone by next week and looked into the OnePlus 5 a bit, depending on the cost and the actual delivery date, I think I'll likely still go for a 3/3T.
u/ITman2000 · 2 pointsr/PickAnAndroidForMe

Best you go for the [oneplus 3t] (https://www.amazon.com/OnePlus-A3000-Factory-Unlocked-Phone/dp/B01MXR13TZ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1503450069&sr=1-4&keywords=oneplus+3t&linkCode=ll1&tag=dealz050-20&linkId=ab2e679fafe31bf74e165842d165b32a) if you decide to get another phone. The 3t has a superfast processor and a long battery life that can last you more than a day on mix use. Furthermore it has 6 gb ram and is upgradable to nougat 7.

Google Pixel GSM Unlocked (Certified Refurbished) (32GB, Gray) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072N3GKSM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_iFM5Ab83Y3A7G

u/Josepepowner · 2 pointsr/PokemonGoSpoofing

Personally I would strongly recommend a pixel first gen. Firstly its not too expensive. Also to unlock the bootloader is relatively easy. Even if you have the verizon version. With this step I recommend just formatting to factory following the steps and if it doesn't work repeat until it does. Twrp is an easy install. Just need ADBand TWRP. And Magiskis simple and straight forward. Smali with AppNinja GPS joy is going to be how you spoof. Everything before this point is to get your device ready. BTW I don't work for any of these guys its just how I do it and have had no issues.

Why I recommend pixel? Because most of this has been fleshed out really well. The stock rom works really fucking well. The device is old enough to be cheap and dissected over heavily enough that documentation is everywhere, but also packs quite a punch. The other reason I recommend pixel is because to return to stock and recover from a brick is simple and straight forward. And because google gives you all the tools to do it. Lastly pixel is planned to be updated to the newest Android OS. Which means once all the hacks get updated you can move forward with hopefully a better and smoother OS.

But as tasty banana peppers has said. All those company devices work I just feel pixel is the easiest to work with. This is coming from a guy who use to do it on an S4 and didn't enjoy the experience at all.

u/JohnCryptoRambo · 2 pointsr/audiophile

She will have to find MP3s somewhere. It's probably easier just to get an unactivated smartphone that could use Spotify and download on wi-fi. Any burner android phone could do it. But it will take a spotify subscription to download songs to play while she runs.

https://www.amazon.com/BLU-Advance-Unlocked-Smartphone-Black/dp/B072N6BD9V $39.

u/raptor102888 · 2 pointsr/Android

The Xperia XZ1 Compact sounds just about perfect for you, as long as you're on a GSM network. What carrier do you use?

u/renatofontes · 2 pointsr/PickAnAndroidForMe

The Mate SE would be a good choice. Some people have had some lag with this phone and the 7x (me included) but that was on Nougat and on the Oreo beta the lag is 100% gone, hopefully they release the final update soon. Battery life is also definitely good, I sometimes forget to charge it overnight with no problems (though I work from home and have wifi always on which reduces battery usage).

Besides this, there's also the Xperia XA2 which comes with Oreo already and seems to be a really nice phone for the price. Probably faster than the Mate SE, though it only has 3gb of ram.

If you don't mind going a little over your budget, the Xperia XZ1 is also a good phone, and with last year flagship's cpu. The only problem is that it lacks fingerprint sensor in the US (boo!).

Other good budget options could also be available soon if you don't mind waiting, like the Moto G6 line and the Zenfone 5.

I think a lot of it will come down to battery and how often you intend to use the phone (for GPS etc). Batteries can be one of the heavier parts of a phone, a more powerful phone will use the battery more quickly, but there might be a limit to what you'd consider usable in a lower end phone.

The Unihertz Jelly is tiny and apparently only 60g, but that only helps so much if you end up having to carry a larger external battery to compensate.

If your phone is going to get even moderate use (rather than sitting in your bag for emergencies) I'd maybe start at with a battery comparison database and look up the weights of phones with an expected uptime which will avoid you carrying an external battery.

u/seanprefect · 2 pointsr/kindle

Lower is better isn't a budget, let me give you some advice that i wish that had been given to me at your age. ALWAYS set a budget for any task. You need hard figures, otherwise you can fall into some dangerous traps. Also cheapest isn't the least expensive you have to consider the ramifications of ownership.

Keep using the s7 for as long as it works for you. Maybe replace the battery as needed once it starts to wear out. They're better than most low end phones you'd be buying right now.

A good low end option at the moment would be something like the Moto e4: https://www.amazon.com/Moto-4th-Generation-Unlocked-Exclusive/dp/B077Y79RBY/

I read through a ton of customer reviews before buying a Pixel 3 and saw a fair amount of conflicting info. Take, for example, a review on this listing for an "unlocked" Pixel 3:

> The phone is Verizon unlocked and does NOT support eSIM!
> Customers who want to use eSIM such as Google Fi please purchase directly from Google Store!

> eSIM functionality is factory disabled and you can't re-enable it. It's not likely going to change in the future.
> You can't root it because you can't enable OEM unlock because the phone is from Verizon.

The Boost-branded Aquos Crystal is unofficially supported for BYOD. Amazon actually seems to be the best place to buy one because of their return policy. Keep the packaging and shipping box, so that if activation doesn't work for whatever reason, you can factory reset the thing, initiate a return, print out the return label, and get your money refunded.

u/ericistooop · 1 pointr/Android

No, I got it about half a year ago for $99. The Boost version of the Aquos Crystal is now $89 on Amazon. It's pretty much the 2013 Moto G with a bigger screen and a bit more RAM.

u/moron88 · 1 pointr/ting

on a side note for the sharp, i have the screen protector and case in the " frequently bought together" section. for that 1 cent, you get 6 screen protectors and they are pretty easy to install. the case is very nice and gives the phone some needed thickness and grip. the kickstand is handy too.

Not sure what your price-range is like, but in terms of being updated, Nexus devices are the way to go. The three latest Nexus devices also work on all major US carriers, so you can use it no matter what carrier you're on.

If you like HUEG screens, the Nexus 6, while a bit older, will most likely be seeing a couple more years of updates (Android N definitely, Android O maybe, but I bet it'll at least continue to get security updates). Downside is that it doesn't have a super awesome camera. Available unlocked with no contract on Amazon for $350 here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R1984DI

If you like large screens but not huge, the Nexus 6P would be the way to go. However, it's the newest flagship, so it's a bit more on the expensive side. Available unlocked with no contract on Amazon for $500 here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B015YCRZ06/

For the best deal, the Nexus 5X (which was released alongside the Nexus 6P) is a more affordable mid-range Nexus device. It's not really a gaming phone (although classic game emulators should work fine), but will handle regular phone tasks fine. Looks to have a pretty good camera as well: http://www.droid-life.com/2015/10/19/nexus-5x-camera-review-samples/ . Google is currently having a sale on the Nexus 5X, where if you sign up for Google Fi service, you can get the phone for $200. Downside is that you have to pay for the first month of Fi service, even if you don't want to use it (you can cancel it after), so it's more like $230, but that's still a great deal.

seems to indicate that the H990DS is missing HSPA and LTE Cat12 Band 66.

Nah man the phones you listed are too old. They won't run modern apps.

There is a phone called the Moto G Play on Amazon. The cheaper version is only $50. It is only compatible with Verizon prepaid but if you're not using it for phone/data service, only wifi as a personal media player, it's totally fine. It has a micro SD card slot so you can add as much stuff as you want, it runs a recent version of Android (Marshmallow; not quite the newest but it's new enough), and it has 2 GB of RAM so it won't be frustratingly slow to use.

EDIT: That model appears to be sold out for the next few weeks. If you can't wait for it, the BLU R1 HD should be fine. It's only $50-$60 if you are willing to have Amazon ads on the lock screen. I would strongly recommend spending the extra $10 to get double the RAM though - having not enough RAM will seriously impact day to day usability. Back when I had a phone with 1 GB of RAM, my music would frequently stop playing because I ran out all the time. 2 GB is the bare minimum for basic functionality in Android.

ZTE are notorious for their delay in upgrades. Honestly at the $300 price point a refurb Pixel 1 is a great buy https://www.amazon.com/Google-Pixel-Unlocked-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B072N3GKSM

u/abcteryx · 1 pointr/Android

The article supposes that Google's canonical page system is being used to inform this behavior. It looks to establish a single, canonical URL for a given page. It says that the canonical page will be determined algorithmically if the page owner does not define the canonical URL.

I wonder if auto-generated canonical pages will trim actual useful content from URLs. For example, timestamps (like "?t=65") on YouTube URLs:

https://youtu.be/qbMTukAJskQ?t=65

Also, automatic subtitle navigation on Wikipedia links (like "#Capabilities")

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falcon_Heavy#Capabilities

I just hope that this new feature will not cause regression in such cases. I do like the idea of Google automatically trimming the chaff from Amazon URLs. I usually do so manually, anyways. For example, an Amazon URL like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Google-Pixel-Unlocked-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B072N3GKSM/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1519145581&sr=1-1&keywords=pixel

really only needs to be like this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072N3GKSM

My understanding of referral strings in URLs is that it helps the retailer track page links, I wonder if Google will get rid of referral info in URLs as well?

u/stringfold · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

Or you could get a Certified Refurbished Pixel or Pixel XL for under $250 instead:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072N3GKSM/ref=twister_B07BKTQCXR?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

They're unlocked and are guaranteed to look and work as-new. (I have one, and it does).

Note: The warranty is 90 days, so there is some extra risk involved for the lower price. Personally, I think it's worth it, especially if you buy refurbished goods regularly. Even if you get stuck with a lemon sometimes, overall you should still come out ahead in the long run.

Also, if you have a Visa or Amex card that extends warranties, it will work for refurbished phones too (extending it to 180 days).

>It's easy to find a replacement. There are four standard sizes.

So if you're looking for the best available model, and only one size fits, you're instantly ruling out 3/4 of microwaves on the market for something that has almost no bearing on performance or other features.

Hmmmm.

>Never actually had to look for one or has lied about looking for one because they assumed it was hard, so they don't know it's trivial.

Or they care about the appliances they get and know that limiting yourself to 1/4 of available built-in appliances is like saying you can only buy a car with, say, a given length that's within 4 inches of an arbitrary set vehicle length. But, odds are that the best vehicles aren't going to fit that arbitrary specification. And that could be a real problem that could cost you (tens of) thousands of dollars.

You can say that it's possible to find a good vehicle that meets those specifications, but if you actually care about the quality / performance / specifications of the appliance or vehicle you're getting, you should still acknowledge that limiting working models to <25% of what's on the market is...what it is. Sure, you can find a POS model that fits. Enjoy buying a new microwave every 2 years.

Which brings us to your last point:

>Has a really, really old appliance (like 50-60+ years old) that was before these standards existed.

If you buy decent quality appliances, they last for longer than 5-10 years, and it will have been discontinued. Any replacement you find will have to be secondhand or it's remodel time.

>That's like saying "It's so hard to find the right sized case for my iPhone 8." just because cases for the iPhone 6 and 7 exist.

It's more like saying "I wish I hadn't bought these women's jeans because no modern smartphone will fit into the pocket."

You can always go to a tailor to get real pockets installed, but you could've avoided the problem in the first place by buying pants with real pockets that could be used to hold actual objects. And while it's true that some tiny smartphones exist, limiting yourself to the handful of ~limited-capability models that fit is...limiting. You'll probably be able to find something that kind of works. No one's disagreeing with that. But not all [appliances] are created equal, and you're essentially pushing the idea that size is the most important feature of a [microwave, fridge, whatever], when it affects performance and reliability about as much as the color does.

u/TheForlornGamer · 1 pointr/Fallout

Yeah, that'd be amazing, actually. Especially since most smartphones nowadays (even relatively affordable <$400 ones like the Moto E4) would be able to run either of these games at the smoothest framerates possible.

If not a remaster, a ground-up remake with Fallout Shelter's art direction would be a nice alternative, too. The only problem Bethesda faces would have to be sales and marketing. Do they want to sell this game to hardcore/novice Fallout fans or would they rather tap into a more casual market instead?

Clearly, no one wants to see these remasters flop, so in the end, it's up to Bethesda to decide on how they're going to approach this.

This is actually the reason I ended up replacing my z3 after just barely a year. The D6166 is the only z3 model that can't unlock the bootloader and it was abandoned for updates very quickly (other models at least got 6.0).

Since TMobile is GSM, you should check Amazon for unlocked devices since they tend to be cheaper than financing in the long run (assuming $2-300 up front is doable). Something like the Moto G5 Plus should be pretty decent without crippling your bank account.

u/sgteq · 1 pointr/verizon

Nope, sorry. When buying a phone for a US carrier not sold by the carrier (aka bring-your-own "unlocked" phone) you need to find an explicit confirmation from the seller that this specific model supports carrier X. This confirmation doesn't apply to any other model sold under the same name.

For example:

  • Moto G5. Explicitly "Fully Compatible" with Verizon. But that doesn't mean some overseas model Moto G5 is compatible with Verizon.
  • LG X charge. "Compatible with AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile networks." This one doesn't even claims to be compatible with Verizon. So it's not compatible.

I had the Note 4 and the Note 5, and voice quality was more or less the same between the two. However even if voice quality was notably better in the Note 5 over the Note 4, I wouldn't recommend that you buy a phone that is over 3 years old unless you have no other option.

If you're on a budget and don't need all of the Samsung-specific features of the Note 5, something like the LG Stylo 4 might be a feasible option.

Ok OP, I said I'd get you a recommend. Take a look at the LG Stylo 4 that is close to your budget at $180 and a better deal than the V20. Cons with the Stylo is ram size.

Also the Moto Z2 play I like too from swappa.com. Cons, battery life average. But I would not call it subpar. Really it might be the best pick for around $180.
