Very brief build guide:

Mirror: ~110$ after shipping -Two Way Glass Mirror - 12" x 24" - Mirropane - 1/4" Thickness - Flat Edge Polished - for Smart Mirrors, Hidden Televisions, Security and Surveillance Applications https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MSAZ3PN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_UAdiDbB7HTW20
Rpi 3: ~40$ - Element14 Raspberry Pi 3 B+... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BDR5PDW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Monitor: ~ 70$ - Sceptre E205W-1600 20" 75Hz Ultra Thin LED Monitor HDMI VGA Build-in Speakers, Metallic Black (2018 version) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00S8W8QMG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.CdiDb9X0FX93
Assorted cables: ~10$
I spent about 20$ on wood for the frame.
I got the code from here: https://github.com/HackerShackOfficial/Smart-Mirror

Total: ~250$

Rough build guide:
Pull the code onto the pi with git.
Follow the instructions in the README to get everything working.
Disassemble the monitor. Be mindful of ESD and don't destroy the display panel. Set aside all the electronics; you'll need them, duh. Once it is free test it. BE SURE to test the panel at most steps to make sure it's not dead or damaged.
Make the frame to the spec of the mirror. Add in support to make sure the panel will lie where you want it to in the mirror.
Do a dry fit to place and route all the electronics.
I used hot glue and masking tape to secure everything down and block out light leak.
Lastly, go into a dark room and test it out. It'll show you where most of your light leak is.

I hope this is helpful for everyone. Sorry if it isn't comprehensive enough. Also, two things not included in the price were my priceless pals that helped with the assembly. Big thanks to LDC and Big Jo.

Agreed. As long as the parts are compatible, which we can help with, assembling a pc is the way to go. This budget is difficult, though. Ideally you’d budget $250 (210€?)just for the graphics card. You really want a GTX1060. The graphics card is everything in a gaming computer. You won’t have much budget left; that means bare minimums on everything else.

This build is an excellent place to start:

PCGamer.com cheapest gaming computer build

Intel Pentium G4560
GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
ASRock B250M Pro4
Crucial 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4-2133
Crucial MX300 275GB
EVGA 450W 80+ Bronze PSU

Don’t forget a copy of Windows 10, a decent mouse, keyboard, monitor, and headphones or speakers.

Also I’ll suggest you reuse an old 7200rpm SATA hard drive (250gb+)if you have one in an old PC. This isn’t ideal, but it will help control costs and while it will make the game load slower than the Crucial MX300 listed above, it wont really affect gameplay.

EDIT:
Based on feedback and current prices, I suggest the following hardware:

I was doing pretty good until I got to the damn WD hard drives. I suspect I paid way too much for how good they are. Probably could have saved some money by making an enclosure and using real hard drives or something

Because I'm bored and do this for a living I'm going to put together an alt build for you:

Nice entry level Skylake gaming Mobo (I've used this, it's nice, has USB 3.1 which will be very helpful in the coming years for data transfers)

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Gaming-Skylake-Motherboard-H110M/dp/B01B4U47E4/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486579857&sr=1-2&keywords=lga+1151

Processor: G440

https://www.amazon.com/Intel-BX80662G4400-Pentium-Processor-FCLGA1151/dp/B015VPX05A

RAM (only 8GB but get 16 if you can afford another $40 or so)

https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-HyperX-2133MHz-Non-ECC-HX421C14FBK2/dp/B00TY6A1P0/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486579959&sr=1-5&keywords=DDR4

Video card:

RX 470 OC edition, I like this card great bang for the buck:

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Radeon-RX-470-ARMOR/dp/B01N3TCNNW/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486580034&sr=1-1&keywords=RX+470+4gb

SSD: budget one, but way better than a spinning drive:

https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-240GB-Internal-SP240GBSS3S55S25AE/dp/B01M61OWRI/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486580111&sr=1-1&keywords=240gb+ssd

Power supply:

no reason to spend more with this build:

https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Warranty-Power-Supply-100-N1-0400-L1/dp/B00LV8TZAG/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486580138&sr=1-1&keywords=400+watt+power+supply

Case:

https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-VERSA-Micro-Gaming-Computer/dp/B01CLIZ698/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486580162&sr=1-5&keywords=micro+atx+case

total cost of build is roughly:

Mobo ($70)

CPU ($60)

GPU ($170)

RAM ($70)

SSD ($60)

PSU ($30)

Case ($40)

So total is roughly $500 and with this build you have a great upgrade path, which you won't have at all with the one you proposed.

Swap out for the b450 board and bring the total to 240 dollars, and still be under your 250 budget.

u/AdversarialPossum42 · 7 pointsr/HomeNetworking

I use the free Veeam Agent for Windows as well and it's awesome. Good pick! 👍

You have a few options here. Depends on how adventurous you're willing to get.

  • Share a drive from one of your PCs. You'll need to keep that PC on during the time the other PCs to do their backup so they can access the drive.
  • If your home router has a USB port then it probably supports sharing an external drive on the network. Check the router's manual for how to set this up.
  • Buy a dedicated a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device, like Synology or QNAP.
  • Build your own NAS using Raspberry Pi or ODROID HC2.

The 3400G has no point in favour(except the useless in that case integrated gpu)compared to the old 2600/2600X and costs very little less.

https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_ryzen_5_3400g_review,1.html

Get a windows 10 pro OEM key and use the money saved to get a better hardware.

https://www.allkeyshop.com/blog/buy-windows-10-professional-cd-key-compare-prices/

Ryzen 2600X, always faster than the 3400G and with 6C/12T instead 4C/8T, same price.

https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-Processor-Wraith-Cooler/dp/B07B428V2L/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=2600x&qid=1566549660&s=gateway&sr=8-1

For the motherboard go with the AORUS B450M, still micro-atx but with better vrm section and 4 dimm slot.

https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-B450-AORUS-Thermal-Motherboard/dp/B07FWY246F/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=GIGABYTE+B450+AORUS+M&qid=1566548666&s=electronics&sr=1-3

For the ram go with the 3200Mhz, the price is not so different from the 3000mhz and in the ryzen 2xxx the frequency of the ram is never enough. This one go without any problem at 3200mhz in all the 4 dimm slot(in many MB it slow down when you use all of them).

https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-HyperX-HX432C16PB3K2-16/dp/B01GCWQ8VO/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=HX432C16PB3K2%2F16&qid=1566548905&s=gateway&sr=8-2

For the ssd go with a NVME one, not a simple and slower sata-on-m2 like the one you linked, this is good and immensely faster than a m2-sata one.

https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN500-500GB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07P7TFKRH/ref=pd_cp_147_3?pd_rd_w=4Enu4&pf_rd_p=ef4dc990-a9ca-4945-ae0b-f8d549198ed6&pf_rd_r=X7MNXV3BTN7KTDVWETV3&pd_rd_r=65132661-a55d-48a9-b339-2de3f59635c6&pd_rd_wg=wdzbp&pd_rd_i=B07P7TFKRH&psc=1&refRID=X7MNXV3BTN7KTDVWETV3

The rest is ok.

https://www.banifox.com/amd-procesador-a10-9700/art_11431/

    https://www.banifox.com/gabinetes-gaming-g7/art_89264/

    Suerte

Sorry but one needs to factor in a few things.. To quote "Raspberry Pi-based console" thus meaning this project is nothing more than slapping together a few parts off adafruit, installing retropi, and 3d printing a custom case. Parts and software alone are under $100, print materials under $10, and time well that's incalculable for a "hand made" product.

To back up my statement; check out a similar project:

https://www.adafruit.com/product/2510 ($47.50 USD)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BDR5PDW ($35 USD)
https://www.adafruit.com/product/2011 ($12.50 USD)

https://retropie.org.uk/download/ (free)
Total: $90 + s&h

And those are Retail prices. Wholesale prices are used to determine market price (e.g. wholesale price totalled per unit * 2, where two is the cost of the one you made and the next one behind it then add ~30% markup to get the manufacturer's suggested price).

Big box consoles can charge less because they shave that ~30% markup to nearly 5-8% markup but overall they'll still working with bulk wholesale parts that are pennies on the dollar.

This pricing either suggests that someone is trying to profit of the open source community or has no understanding of economics and finance.

if buying new, buy a ryzen 3 2200g and a gtx 1050 (you want to check if the ti version of this card is in your budget) any 8 gb stick of ddr4 ram, a matx motherboard (something like this one https://www.amazon.com/Ryzen-Gaming-Motherboard-B450M-CSM/dp/B07FKV5HWJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1542351129&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=b450&dpPl=1&dpID=51xLs42VqaL&ref=plSrch), you need to buy an ssd 128 gb and 1 tb or 500 gb hard drive if you are playing osu! only. buy a 400w psu since the gtx 1050 is not a power hungry card and you will not need anything more than that (just make sure that it's from a reputable brand (energon is shit). this is around 450 dollars.

if buying used i would go for gtx 970 for around 100 dollars (this would be a very good deal, if you can't get this get a used gtx 960 for around the same price, it won't matter if you're only playing osu!, then buy a used prebuild dekstop with a i7 3770 or i5 4460 or something of those generations, check if the pc supports graphic cards (if it has pcie slot then it does), if you can get a used prebuild system with ryzen for cheap then that is even better, but i would spend around 200 dollars on a prebuild dektop with that processor. you will probably need to buy a power supply for that graphic card and do not cheap out here and just go for 50 dollars (new do not buy used psus) 500w psu. this should put you around 350 dollars, and if the prebuild system didn't have an ssd then buy it for around 30 dollars.

You can exceed the performance of a console for about the same price.
Fx 6300, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CX4MUCC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_HK,
500 watt power supply is $40, 8 Gb 1866 Ram $25 for one stick, buy your own second stick. $40 WD Blue 1TB HD. GTX 1060 or RX 470-480, cases can be as low as $35. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012AQIQ48/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_CNdYxbP0NEJTW cheap keyboard and mouse. You're done for $500. Want more than that you should work for it. Also remember while you've done very good for yourself you haven't actually earned anything. You've only prepared yourself. Also windows 10 will operate without a key.

Edit: You're probably suffering from the same problem I had 6 years ago when I built my computer I spent a lot of money on it, way too much in fact. Now I still have the same cpu and motherboard and they are working fantastically, but I have no USB or SATA 3, and for the money I spent I could have bought a middle of the road system with the same GPU I bought back then twice, or bought a bigger GPU then and upgraded the motherboard to AM3+ when it came out and upgraded the Cpu 2 years after that, would have a much more capable system now and still save on the total Investment cost. Right now I'm just riding this aging system out until it dies or AM4 comes out and am going to spend drastically less on the motherboard and Cpu than I did before. Also that motherboard I linked is pretty fantastic for its price. I'm gonna buy one for my roommate.

u/BeanSkittled · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Do you care about the looks of the motherboard? If not then this one has almost all the features of the two you linked for over $40 less. As someone who upgraded from an AMD A10 apu the i5-4690k is an amazing upgrade and great overall cpu. Make sure you get a good cooler for it if you are looking to get a decent overclock.

It isn't difficult, don't get intimidated. You can do this in an evening without any experience. You'll need a Pi, a Pi case, a Pi power adapter, a microSD card, a monitor encoder (if you tell me which model monitor you have, I'll send you a link for the encoder for it (NOT WHICH GAME YOU HAVE -- the model numbers vary even for the same titles -- just take the back panel off and read me the model number, it's in bold white text on a sticker on the back of the monitor)), some USB encoders to plug your buttons and joysticks into the Pi (grab two of these), and two buttons to use for coin/select (you will have to do some very minor drilling into that little black diagonal panel between the kick panel and the control panel to mount these; don't be scared though, even if you mess it up, you can get a piece of 1/8" MDF and paint it black for under $5 to replace it).

For instructions on installing, see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09DQCOr6zQM - just ignore the products he tells you to use, since you'll be using the stock joysticks and buttons and getting just the encoders. The installation for everything else is the same.

u/8Bits1132 · 3 pointsr/RetroPie

The CanaKit ones are usually good as a starting point (unless you don't want to buy the components individually, though as another person said, the power supplies that ship with them aren't the greatest.

If you DO want to buy the components individually, however, you only need to get the board itself, an optional case, and the power supply. Here's what I've seen most people use.

  • Raspberry Pi 3 B+ (around $35 USD. It's the most powerful iteration of the Raspberry Pi. It might fit your needs, as it can play PS1 games pretty well.
  • Official Raspberry Pi Power Supply (5V/2.5A)

You could also invest in heatsinks or fans if you want to keep the Pi a bit cooler in temperature. Or, you could also buy a Flirc case, which is around $15 USD, which acts as a giant heatsink. It's one of the more popular cases around here, and for good reason. It's very reasonably priced in my opinion, and it does a good job at keeping the Pi nice and cool, so you don't need a fan.

Speaking of cases, if you want that retro console look, there are some pretty good options, with one of the most well known case makers being Retroflag. They don't come with any form of cooling like heatsinks and fans, so you'll have to provide those separately.

If you are asking about controllers, you can use both wired USB or wireless Bluetooth controllers as well (though you'll need to have at least a USB controller or a keyboard connected to the Pi for the first part of setting it up which will ask you to configure your controls which work across the RetroPie environment (that includes EmulationStation which is used to launch your games, and RetroArch which powers most of the emulators included with the default RetroPie install).

You can read the RetroPie documentation for more information on RetroPie itself too.

If you're wanting to go to an fx-8xxx+, you will want a 990 chipset board. The 970 only covers (officially) the crappiest of the 8 cores. I had the exact same mobo and wanted to upgrade my cpu. It's no good with higher TDP chips and has TERRIBLE vram cooling. Not to mention it has only one pcie x16 slot for gpus. I personally just upgraded to this used at $87. There are tougher and better cooled versions of it. But it's pretty tops for AM3+.

u/Talpss · 2 pointsr/Amd

Well, if you're upgrading on a budget, I'd personally get an i3 6100, but if you're set on AM3, I'd suggest Gigabyte or MSI. I've never owned an AM3 board, but I've owned an MSI and Gigabyte FM2 and they both are great. Maybe have a look at this one?

i7 for gaming usage is overkill, get an i5-4690K instead.

Get a Z97 board to match your i5-4690K. This MSI Z97 PC MATE should do the job.

Get a CPU Cooler if you're going to OC it, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

u/Excalibur106 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Looks pretty good, this is great for the price. A few things though:

  1. Are you planning on going SLI? 750w is kinda overkill for a single 970. 600w could save you some money too.

  2. Check out the MSI Z97 PC MATE, its $85 after a $10 mail-in rebate, cheaper than that ASUS motherboard and has similar features. However it is NOT SLI certified.

  3. Here's some, cheaper, faster RAM. Lifetime warranty too. Link

EDIT: Of course prices have changed the very next day after I posted. The RAM is no longer worth its price and the mobo is now $90 after rebate.
u/ant2555 · 2 pointsr/bapcsalesuk

yeah why would you want a z97?

also could anyone explain why it is worth more than say: amazon link

u/jkaos92 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Z97 here:

AsRock : 82 euro
Gigabyte: 92 euro link
MSI PC MATE: 93 euro link

I was considering msi but it isn't the MSI that people generally buy (the gaming version)
H97 here costs just 5 euro less then Z version so there is no point to pick up a H-mobo :(

Also edited my SO, it will be linux ubuntu, not sure if can add problems with the mobo

u/cf18 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Best deal: GA-Z170-HD3 at amazon.ca, $108. Pro: low price, M.2. Con: Dec 7 shipping, no 10G USB3.1g2, no SLI, useless legacy PCI slots.

Next level: Asus Z170-E at $160+. None of the con above, but need to deal with rebate.

More premium at around $200:

MSI Tomahawk AC - no SLI, but has Wifi.

Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3 Ultra - new model with many premium features that was exclusive in high-end board like thunderbolt 3 and U.2.

u/KaosC57 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I'm looking into the http://www.amazon.com/MSI-Z170A-SLI-PLUS-Motherboards/dp/B019EYYNP0 Even though I don't NEED SLI, If I ever get some spare money, I'm gonna buy a new EVGA G2 series 850W PSU and another GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+ I could also 3 way crossfire R9 390's for like, overkill speeds.

u/Okieant33 · 2 pointsr/GlobalOffensive

Well, mainly I needed a new CPU because my PC would shut off completely. I thought it was the PSU but when I ran Prime 95 and stress tested the CPU, I got the same result and my PC would shut off.

So I upgraded with these parts:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005O65JXI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (haven't installed this yet)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M8ABEIM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (had a 200GB SATA HDD and it was old and slow. SSD has really helped the speed out)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MMLUYPG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm keeping my eye out for the RX480 when that comes out. It's supposed to be as good as the GTX 980 and only cost $200. Waiting on benchmarks with heavy breathing.

u/Kokuei05 · 2 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

OK I have looked around I'm still confused so i hope you guys can help.

I have a NZXT s340 case and a MSI H110M GAMING LGA1151 motherboard. Im looking at Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1050 GDDR5 2GB PCI-E for my video card. Would this be compatible with my stuff? If you have a recommendation for a different £110/$135 video card let me know.

u/Svarthofde · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace
u/Orderdrake · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Why did you choose that motherboard for the cheaper builds? Theres so many cheaper motherboards which have a lot of the same stuff. Does it matter? For example your choice, Another in the same price range. Plus it looks all "gamerfied" Does that matter? I know the chipset is the key since all cheaper motherboards are H110.

u/Tinytox · 2 pointsr/techsupport

In case you TL;DR:

AMD is better bang for your buck. Intel is better for cutting-edge. Cutting edge is only relevant to $1500 procs, therefore anything Intel makes that's below AMDs top processor at the time, is basically overpriced.

Basically, the main differences between AMD and Intel are as follows:

AMD:

Cheaper than Intel in basically every facet
Uses 1 physical core per thread (irrelevant unless you're getting a very expensive CPU)

Intel:

u/storm_bow · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I'd recommend a b250m motherboard. These natively support 7th gen cpus and have more features only for $10 more. But then again, I would say the same for the cpu.

u/Boris_S · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Your choice of your motherboard entirely depends on what you need. They are similarly priced right now based on Amazon for $65 - 75 but I would recommend the GIGABYTE-GA-B250M-DS3H or ASUS-PRIME-B250M-A.

u/NintendoManiac64 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Vega56 may be a good alternative to a GTX1070 if you don't need CUDA acceleration and you're OK with the mediocre-at-best reference cooler.

Otherwise, consider a different power supply - the NEX SuperNOVA is quite sub-par when compared to the awesome G2 and G3 SuperNOVA units or the Seasonic and Corsair competition.

Also some people would insist on getting the ASRock AB350 Pro4 motherboard instead, but it seems that the full ATX version is currently sold out on Amazon...

Lastly, you may or may not want to instead consider just getting a ~500GB SSD by itself and ditching the mechanical HDD alltogether, and then just buying a mechanical HDD later down-the-line when/if you actually need the space. (in particular, it's way less of a hassle to just add in a secondary hard drive than it is to upgrade your primary SSD)

I reaally didn't expect this to blow up while I was asleep. I appreciate everyone with the same sentiments. Alright. I've read your comments. I'm going to address all the common stuff.

If anyone cares about my pc specs and the game settings I used I'll list them at the bottom of this comment <3

  1. "WTF just get better wifi?? You don't have fiber dude? what are you ? Poor?"

I actually lol'd at these. I have the best wifi where I live at 70mbps download. It's pretty damn expensive, but I use my computer a lot. Homework, games, youtube, etc., so ultimately it's super worth it. I have spectrum and I live on the west coast. This means that the game is constantly at 80 ping. No, I don't use an ethernet cord. Mainly because I haven't found the time to route it through my house, and honestly I'm not really focused on that right now. My wifi works perfectly fine with everything else. But I mean yeah I guess you guys are right, I should just move to a different state./s

  2. "Uhh, your pc has nothing to do with your wifi smh idiot lol"

    That's the joke homie.

What I'm referring to is the fact that after working $8/hr at a fast-food restaurant as a high school student and building a $1000+ computer solely for this game, shit like this still happens. Why does it happen? Because of bluehole's shitty servers and net-code. Something that is completely out of my control.

  3. "people still play this game?? ? Go play something else"

I enjoy this game. It's brought many good memories, and it keeps on bringin' 'em. I'm aware of all the downfalls it has. Trust me I'm more than 120% aware. Just because it's not your style, or it's hard, or the randomness gets to you, it doesn't mean it can't be fun for other people. I've got tired of this fucking game too. Many times lol. It's still enjoyable to me however, so I'll still play it.

    My specs & game settings:

I used this gaming laptop up until roughly 800 hours.

CPU: Intel i7-8700 - Link (out of stock as of October/6/19)

    RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8) DDR4 3000 - Link

GPU: MSI Geforce 1660ti - Link

Motherboard: MSI Z-370 Pro - Link

    Monitor: MSI Optix MAG 24" 144hz 1ms - Link

Power Supply: EVGA Supernova 650w 80+ Gold - Link

    Storage: ADATA 2TB SSD Link

Fan and cooler are pretty easy to find.

Might be, though really, you're just stuck replacing the motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Replacing just the motherboard on your old system looks like it'll cost you ~$400.

You can get an MSI Z370-A Pro ($145), Core i5-8400 ($240), and 16GB DDR4-2666 ($240) for just $625, which would run about 20% faster than your current CPU.

The biggest issue I ran into with the RasPi/scrcpy was it chugging on a large video window. I had to lower the screen resolution to 800x600 (that projector can only display 848x480 anyway) and tell scrcpy to go full screen. I could pull a 1024x768 video frame from the quest and it appeared to resize to 800x600 just fine.

Here were the command line args I used:

scrcpy --fullscreen --no-control --bit-rate 2M --crop 1024:768:288:336

>ZipaMicro, a popular smart home hub developed by Croatian firm Zipato

Popular? Has anyone ever heard of them? For reference: they say they are used in 20K households in 89 countries (that is about 225 households per country). Good luck finding someone using this device even on a forum to ask for help or able to professionally set it up or service it.

When I search on Amazon I see a bunch of over-priced low-power controllers, IP cams and etc. in cheap-looking cases. Literally you can get a Raspberry Pi 3 or 4 with a decent case (or a kit) for a fraction of the price. What's the point of buying this over a Raspberry Pi?

u/IhatemyISP · 2 pointsr/homebridge

As I'm sure you have now deduced, based on the comments below, the device you have shares its name with the software package this subreddit supports.

You have a couple of options at this point:

  1. Find support for the device you have and continue down the rabbit hole of getting it to work.
  2. Return the device you have, get a Raspberry Pi, install and setup the Homebridge software (find other guides via Google), install the Chamberlain plugin for Homebridge, and get support here.

I know first time Raspberry Pi owners can feel a bit lost when setting everything up, but it's not as hard as it seems, and you've got everyone here for assistance.

Either way you go, hopefully you get it working.

I haven't used any handheld pi. I guess there are some good alternatives though.

NDS with charger. $25 - $40 (I would get the DSi) (DSlite bumpers and things tend to wearout)

A flash cart for NDS. $15 - $20 (DSTT I hear is best) (Acekard2i is great) (R4 is hard to tell the model) (DSTWO flashcart drains battery life, is overpriced, but has built in cpu and emulators for gba snes and genesis) All are compatible with 3ds, NDS, DSi.

MicroSD. $10. Samsung EVO 32gb on amazon is a good deal

The DS has a lot of great games, snes and genesis emulators work okay but not the best. GBA emulation only works with dstwo or ez-flash.

Total $50 - $70.

PSVITA w/ charger $110 - $150. Never used one, cfw is available for firmware up to 3.68. The firmware 3.69 is not hackable.

Vita Memory Card + microsd $20. Since the proprietary memory card are so expensive.

PSVITA & TV are cfw compatible up to 3.67 - 3.68, however there may be some homebrew incompatibility on these firmwares. 3.69 is not compatible yet. CFW can load PSP homebrew as well as play PS1.

Total $130 - $170

Wii U complete console $140. Used - Very good

SD card. $15 Sandisk 64gb Extreme SDXC

DS Virtual Console Game $10 From E-shop, needed to play DS on Console/Gamepad screens.

Emulates Nintendo up to DS, has an abandoned PSX emulator from the wii. Portable and Console for TV.

Total $165

The consoles and handhelds fluctuate in price. PSvita TV was low as $40 at one time, they are a bit inflated right now but collectors items will hold value. Finding one second hand or used for half-price is probable a used PSP is easy to find for $40 but not online.

RPI $25 - $40 RPI3b+ is what I have connected to my TV. The RPI2 is similar to RPI0 and emulates PSX but not all, as per the RPI3B+. There are many SBCs, I think the OdroidC2 and Tinkerboard and NanoPI M4 are all interesting but I have not used them.

Case + Heatsink and fan $25 - $30 There are other cases Argon One, SuperPI Retroflag, many others, some bundles heatsink and fan are necessary for the rpi3b+. The retroflag controllers are not preferred.

Power Supply $15 or official raspberry pi power supply.

MicroSD $10

Controllers $15 - $35 There are a lot of options here, recycle your PS3 or XBOX360 controller, Buy a corded Ibuffalo Snes, 8bitdo SF30, logitech, retro-bit/retrolink n64. I think only the RPI3B+ and RPI Zero W have bluetooth, else an adapter is needed.

Total $75 - $130

&&&

$50 (zero W + microsd + psu) + all the parts for building a gameboy zero

battery ~15

powerblock ~20

usb teensy ~15

This was the first motherboard that I looked at. Since I have a prime membership with free shipping I've been trying to use Amazon for everything and having it arriving mostly at the same time.

I actually did pick the Kingston SSD on Amazon as I recognized the brand much more. As long as everything in the cart stays about the same price (a few dollar of sales currently on it) then the 1660 Ti should be within the budget as well.

EDIT

Looking at reviews of the motherboard and it does appear to have flash back capabilities.

How good is this MOBO? Is it better to wait for another one or for a better price?

EDIT1: Seems like it's just 10$ from regular price.

EDIT2: also it's cheaper on amazon ( CDN$ 127.99) (it's not the MAX model)

That’s what we bought and he had a case already and I believe a 520Watt PSU

I also gave him my Asus RTX-2060 6gb. Any case or 2060 card will do the trick tho, that stuff is all about the same performance wise.

Works freaking great. I was very impressed with the performance. It ran almost as good as my 2060 did in my i5 9600k in games. I upgraded to a 2080 Super which is the only reason I gave up the 2060. And if I hadn’t got a 49 super ultra wide monitor I could have stuck with the 2060.

On a single screen it worked great

u/NorthStarPC · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

Ok, so this PC build is a little over the $700, coming in about $800-ish after taxes. I did go with a Ryzen 7 due to the benefits of extra cores for graphic design and other workstation tasks that you may be doing in the future. This PC should run the vast majority of 1080p games at Maximum settings and can even handle moderate 1440p gaming. Every component is found on Amazon.

I also went with a more compact, grey design that really makes your build blend in with the desktop environment while still looking beautiful from the outside. The mATX form factor also means that your PC could fit into tight spaces.

Hope you enjoy this build.

I'm really unsure about my Mobo choice because I can't really differentiate the models so I would like to know which one is better between the:

u/TJ-Wizard · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Price seems high for cpu / motherboard.

I’m from the U.K. but just quickly scanning amazon.com you could get a 2600 and b450 motherboard for around the same price. With this board you can OC and the 2600 is far far better than the 1200.

Lastly what psu are you using, like what brand is it?

u/RiftBladeMC · 2 pointsr/Amd

I probably would recommend the Asus Prime B450M-A/CSM as it's the cheapest motherboard with out of the box support for the 2200g and 6 sata ports.

u/Silver_Foxxx · 2 pointsr/computers

OK. Let's say you have an FX 8350. It's possible to get a decent upgrade with a Ryzen 5 2600 @ $118.00 + an ASUS PRIME B450A/CSM @ $79.00 for less than $200.00 but DDR3 will not work with that or any newer motherboard.

You might want to up your cap by another hundred for tax and memory.

Full Build: NZXT H200, R5 2600, RTX 2060, 8×2 GB 3000Mhz Ram, 500GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 550W PSU

u/tommatosauce · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Given the options for SFX PSU's i don't think the one you've chosen is 'overkill' so much as the best option for the system you're building.
Another thing i might suggest is to go with a b450 MoBo, they're basically exactly the same price and you will be able to run the 2400g straight out of the box instead of having to deal with bios updates.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F83RY49/?tag=pcpapi-20

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GPDJ9R6/?tag=pcpapi-20

In terms of the heat outputs, the 2400g on has a TDP of 65w so provided you go with the cooler you selected I can't see too many heat issues coming from it. You could consider using the optical drive slot as a 120mm fan if you're not using an optical drive, just to get some more air flowing.

With the RAM i would suggest getting a 16gb kit of 3000+mhz if you can afford it, because the apu uses the system memory for graphics memory and you can allocate 2gb in the bios to get the best graphics performance. So that way it'll still leave you with 14gb of system memory instead of 6gb.

Hope this helped, good luck! :)

RAM for sure would give a very noticeable boost in FPS in games. The motherboard would be more for future proofing, features, better build quality and compatibility. If you have to choose one or the other then get the better RAM because it's that big of a difference but ideally I would avoid MSI products personally and go for another more reliable brand. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SXF8GY3/ is my personal recommendation since it comes highly recommended by a lot of reviewers for good build quality and I like Asus BIOS and features but that's subjective.

I’d actually recommend getting one of the kitd though that includes power adaptor, protective case, etc. It’s very easy to put together.

Tilt then has an image which you can download and burn to a SanDisk memory card. Plug that into the SD card slot in the Pi, power it on, and you’re ready to go.

The Pi acts like a little web server which you can access with your browser. A dashboard will load up, and any nearby Tilt Hydrometers will be listed.

You can also set it up to sync readings with sites like brewersfriend.com

Well, if that's an issue, then the existence of an encrypted directory or partition will likely cause even more suspicion.

> Maybe if I had a "family" computer that ran the media center ...

Wait ... surely you know that a Raspberry Pi 3 is more than adequate to run Kodi or a similar media presentation app?

Raspberry Pi 3 b+, just the board, no case ... $40.

A plastic case, fan, power supply and other stuff ... $17.

(I'm not advocating that you shop at Amazon, just some pretty pictures to show. Everyone has Raspberry Pis for sale ... shop around.)

A computer like this would replace any computer you're misapplying as a media server at the moment, and it has an HMDI plug that (unlike many such things) actually works, delivering 1920x1080 picture and sound.

For me this whole Raspberry Pi thing is completely astonishing. My first computer was an Apple II and it did almost nothing, slowly. A modern pencil sharpener has more raw processing power than my first computer. It was $1600 in 1977 dollars, much more in modern currency. And a computer like the Pi for $40 ... I'm astonished.

EDIT: additions

You could get a raspberry pi 3+ and a 1 - 2TB 2.5 inch hard drive with a hard drive dock that powers via USB.

If the devices in the household will direct play the files, then the raspberry pi will simply serve as a basic NAS and the 1-2TB hard drive should spin up powered from the dock.

For instance:

Raspberry Pi 3+: £32.47 / $42.46

Memory Card for RPi3: £5.84 / $7.64

USB Enclosure for HDD: £7.65 / $10.00

2TB Toshiba 2.5" Drive: £48.19 / $63.03

You'd be looking at £94.15 / $123.11 (i know it will cost different in USA but simply using exchange rate conversion).

It would also take up less space than a single DVD and would possibly hold 71 REMUX 1080p movies. However, you could go for lower quality "1080p" versions and get alot more on there.

I have some spare RPi3's and the above to test this on your behalf :)

Edit: However if you arnt too bothered about size, then buying a second hand PC would be significantly better but the above purely factors in the smallest possible form factor!

That's what I got and configured last week. Ethernet port and standard USB and HDMI ports.

As a plus the 3B+ can also boot from USB directly -- so you can use a USB mass storage device instead of MicroSD. Whether this is better or worse for performance and drive longevity I can't really say. For me as a one-off thing it was just more convenient to use a USB drive. Also with the extra power it would be more useful if you had other things you might want to use it for.

u/ckeogh720 · 1 pointr/Amd

Usually every company is comparable but for B450, msi has the best boards and you should really get an msi board. Get this board for 96 dollars, and you can bios upgrade to Ryzen 3000 if you wanted with just a thumb drive and no ryzen 2000 cpu. If you are paying over 190 for that Ryzen 2700 and this build is just for gaming, you should consider a ryzen 5 3600 because it will have better gaming performance. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F83RVTC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_2RFlDbMHM81ZH

Im most concerned what will happen when i setup my new build with my old drives. They both still have content including the OS on the SSD. Any in depth heavy or light guides about this happening? Unfortunately took apart my old pc already so i cant do much.

Oh i see. It shouldnt be a problem, and i think even though this case is x10 larger than my older one it should be easier to build in. Id also like a ATX board to potentially put more stuff in it.

Mhm theyre both good which is nice. Id get the cheaper of the semi/full modular(not cheap out ofc, maybe like $69 min). The semi mod isnt much of a problem with the preattached cords.

That case is a good budget case.

PCI-e Wifi is fine, though for competitive gaming ethernet is the best.

That motherboard WILL NOT work with a PCI-E network card. I have it!. I recommend a different motherboard. You don't need a mATX board in an ATX case. No compatability issues.

A 144hz display would definitely NOT be overkill. In competitive games such as apex, fortnite, overwatch, r6 and csgo you will hit 144fps plenty of the time. Trust me once you get one you can't go back they are so nice.

Here is a ASRock B450M-HDV for $65. It has two ram slots.

I just picked up the ASRock B450M PRO4 for $80. It’s a little more, but has 4 RAM slots and RGB headers. I like it so far.

If these don’t work, I can look around some more. Is form factor an issue? Anything specific you’re looking for?

The motherboard is not the best but has the video connections you require. It will allow for mild overclocking but you may want higher clocked RAM 3000mhz+, it’s about $5 difference. $20 more on a motherboard will provide a heatsink on the VRMs to further improve overclocking.

u/seannmm · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm upgrading an older PC I bought from a friend and have some simple questions.

  1. Does a new case come with usb/hdmi and other ports already usable? Or do I have to buy something and then connect it to the power supply?
  2. I bought a cheaper motherboard to go with my Ryzen 2600x. Should I have any concerns? Here it is: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MWGKHR9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  3. On a 1080p monitor, should I be concerned about bottlenecking with a Ryzen 2600x CPU and a Radeon RX 5700 GPU?
  4. I bought a new 700W EVGA PSU. Will it have all the cables necessary to hook up my GPU which requires an 8 pin and 6 pin PCie connection?
  5. For those who have experience selling PCs and PC parts, do you think that it's possible to sell an older PC (GTX1050, AMD 6300x, 8GB RAM) for at least a couple hundred bucks? Or selling the individual parts?

    Thank you for any help.
u/Andreas0Cool · 1 pointr/buildmeapc

Because I want to keep the budget as low as possible will these work together?

I know the CPU is kinda weak but still. If I went any higher it would probably need a BIOS update but I don't have any other CPUs. So should I buy these? No higher price tag. If you want recommend me other pieces at the same price, that are better. All will be purchased from Amazon.de

Can handle the 16 core in the future, and if compare Amazon prices for each it's actually cheaper. Mail in rebates are a pain, in the ass anyways. I'd also get a cheaper case. One without an "i" at the end, like the nzxt h500.

I can't personally speak to how good this board is (yet), but I've ordered one for my upcoming build: Asus Prime X570-P. From what I read on the buildapcsales thread it's a bit feature-light, but very solid VRMs and overclocking capacity. Note that it's currently backordered for 1-2 months. I'm planning on using a Ryzen 2600 for at least the next year or two, but figured the X570 gives me an easy upgrade path to something like a 3600/4600 (or better) sometime down the road.

Depends on the model you are looking at, usually it's more expensive. For example, X570 TUF Gaming WIFI is 367$ On PCThemes. Bundle with Ryzen5 3600 is 629$. The mobo itself costs ~300$ on Bhphotovideos.com, 310$ on Amazon and 330 on Newegg. All of these prices are after including GST and shipping costs.

In comparison, it's 299-309$ for Ryzen5 3600 in Sim lim. It costs around the same on Amazon, Bhphotovideo and Newegg. Even cheaper if there's a bundle or deals. But as I mentioned if it's 30-100 more expensive for you but you feel it's worth the convenience of having a local RMA then it's up to you to decide if it's worth it. Mobo and CPU hardly die in my experience.

u/david_hofland · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

You might have good luck with pricing in your area, but under $500 for just three parts would be quite easy. r5 2600 + msi b450 tomahawk + Corsair 16gb 3000mhz comes out to <$300.

If you prefer 3rd gen ryzen: r5 3600 + asus tuf x570 (wifi) + same Corsair ram comes out to <$450.

u/CrispyFShacker · 1 pointr/buildapc

Others can chime in but you might be better with a 3600/X processor for around $200 and putting the extra $100 towards a 2070 super. Also do you need windows 10 pro? you can save some cash going with home edition. Before spending $107 on a beefy network adapter maybe get the TUF Gaming motherboard with WIFI built in for $10 more and see if it is adequate.

u/Commander_ · 1 pointr/buildapc

I like the Asus M5A99FX PRO motherboard whenever I do a AM3+ build.

It uses the best chipset available for AM3+ and supports SLI and Crossfire.

u/dunnolawl · 1 pointr/buildapc

You are not getting good value for your money, like at all... GTX 960 and AMD 7970 are going for C$200 on ebay from reputable sellers including shipping, a dual core 6100 is not going to cut it current games (its really just a single core, since your OS will be eating 25% of a core for background tasks). You would be better off trying to get a used 2500k ( they are going for ~C$150 ) with a Z68 or an x7x series that supports overclocking with a K-series processor.

Buying used when you are on a budget is the way to go, since a lot of people upgrading to the latest and greatest are willing to part with their used hardware on the cheap. As an example, I will be selling my 2nd rig: 8350, Asus m5a99x evo r2.0 and 8GB of RAM for ~$195 (2/3rds of the store price) once the NVIDIA (1070+1080 ) and AMD (Polaris) paper launches are over.

If you want to learn how to buy used, I can recommend a few channels: Oafah, Tech YES City and Linus Tech Tips Scrapyard Wars series

That looks like a pretty solid motherboard, thanks for the recommendation. i heard MSI makes really good overclocking motherboards as well, is that true? I've heard good things about this board in particular. http://www.amazon.com/M5A99FX-PRO-R2-0-990FX-Motherboard/dp/B008B6ONXK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1420786259&sr=8-4&keywords=msi+990fx

Hey guys. First off this is the motherboard I have. Windows 7/64 bit.

This was a part of a build I made a year ago. Everything is great, but yesterday I decided to hook up an Ethernet cord for internet because a wireless adapter I had kicked the bucket.

The issue is it is not installing any drivers. I keep troubleshooting, but it keeps saying drivers not found. I hooked it up to my wife and I's laptops and it came up working great on those.

Just wondering how I can get the drivers needed to run internet through there.

These brand new motherboards are in stock where I live (from the cheapest to the most expensive):
Asrock 990FX Extreme6 — $150
Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 — $200
Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z — $250
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7 — $300

But I don't live in North America. So for USA:
Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 costs $526 brand new on Amazon
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 costs $262 brand new on Amazon, but its picture is GPU, ahaha
MSI 990FXA-Gaming costs $315 brand new on Amazon
ASRock 990FX Extreme9 costs $420 brand new on Amazon

So what are you thinking? Do you have $262 for Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 motherboard? Because even if you send me $150 so that I buy Asrock 990FX Extreme6 for you, you would also have to pay $50 shipping. So no big difference.

This works well enough but the closed/prefilled water cpu cooler I bought doesn't cool well enough even at stock clocks. I haven't OC'd fully in a long time but I could with a better cooler. 135° CPU isnt tolerable. My R9 270 just gave me the checkerboard of death so I'm gonna have to get an R9 480 much sooner than I budgeted. 😢 So much for a cooler first.

Ok so again I have no clue on prices in aus. However with the 8320 you are going to need a motherboard that has the 990fx chipset. This is a good option in the states but idk how much it will cost over there or if you can even get it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008B6ONXK/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/181-3881058-4147907

Can you get a closer picture of the USB block at the very bottom of the main board? I'm suspecting since the discharge occurred while plugging in a USB device, and it ceased to boot afterwards, the damage is likely anywhere between that block and ground through the PSU. (southbridge, etc).

While there's likely no visible damage when it comes to static discharge, if the PC is not booting even after unplugging that USB block, it's safe to say something on the main board has been zapped. If you're low on funds, there's a slightly slower version of this board on Amazon for $66 through Prime. Amazon is generally pretty decent about returns too if it does not fix the issue: https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-6Gbps-Socket-Motherboards-GA-970A-DS3P/dp/B00CX4MUCC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1484078057&sr=8-3&keywords=Gigabyte+GA-970A-UD3P

It would be great though if you could invest a bit more.

I picked the FX-6300 over an i3 because of your multitasking requirement, 6 cores help more there than 2. But normally you would want an i5 (+80€). Also, to get a nice boost in newer games a GTX 960 would be better (+50€).

This is the one my buddy grabbed, it works great and was nice to work with. Normal sized ATX board. A 500 watt psu will be enough for your build but if you want to upgrade your video card in the future to something beefier you will probably need a bit more power. But if you don't see that being an issue I would just stick with it. If you plan on upgrading I'd go with a 750 watt and if you don't plan on it for awhile I would grab the 500.

eh, 4790k costs the same as a 7700k, but the ram point is valid. Maybe you are not in the US which can affect costs.

I went with the Z97 motherboard you suggested in the same line of thought and it's great if you're thinking of getting one. Generally I really like Gigabyte and MSI products, seem high quality to me with decent prices. Asus's warranty is a bit flakey, but I suppose if buying through Amazon you're fine.

Edit:
Sorry I kinda didn't really answer your question, I think it's also about particular features that people prefer and are willing to sacrifice the chipset for. Eg. more USB 3.0 ports, better OCing, hardware control

u/SargentMcGreger · 1 pointr/buildapc

I was going to keep my current ram, 2 8gig corsair chips. I can't remember the clock speed on them though. The mobo was some I found on amazon since I have a 100dollar amazon gift card but I think I'm going to go with one of the Gigabyte ones because my current Gigabyte has been nice but I'm open to suggestions.

I was mainly looking at theses 2:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015CQ8D46/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3N08ZNSY077CK&coliid=I3GCDX17EY95LD&psc=1

Edit: found the ram, it's only 1333mHz but it is 3 years old too and I'll probably upgrade to ddr4 when I get the chance seeing as 2 8gig chips of ddr4 are as expensive as a single one of my 8gig ddr3's back in the day.

u/OldHoster · 1 pointr/vegas

Ok, so this is highly subjective, but a few things that I would do. Also a few questions.

Are you looking to overclock the system?

The drives are you going to want them setup in Raid0? If so I highly recommend against that.

Do you use a wired network at your home/office?

What is the reason for ASUS MB's? I have never had great luck with them, and usually only use Gigabyte.

If you weren't going to over clock it, I would do something like this also I think that you are going to find the extra money spent to over clock just isn't worth it.

https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-2-Way-CrossFire-Motherboards-GA-Z170-HD3/dp/B012AQGKXC
32GB of Standard DDR4 RAM if you really can use 64, that is easy enough to upgrade to.
A single new version of the TitanX(This performs much better than the SLI of 1070's on most configurations for about the same price)
Three or four fast SSD's in a smaller GB using RAID5 or RAID10 depending on three or four SSD's

The biggest departure and what we do for pretty much everything is use a FreeNAS system with 6 drive configuration using RaidZ-2. I have used these systems for years and they are bullet proof, I have some systems that run a huge number of drives and very mission critical software. There are some very cool things you can do with them, here is one of the biggest that we have found, you can go from 1TB to 2TB even to 10TB drives and make your effective storage space go from 4TB to 40TB with never having to "copy" a file between servers and you also have the added benefit of built in media servers and that you have two drives that can fail at any one time with no data loss. I have a coupe of these that are in advanced configurations running 30GB/second over 10GB links and each system complete is over 500TB(not GB) they run 24/27/365 with no downtime serving files to the internet at all times.

Im buying it off amazon but i found that it has 2 MIR for february. 10 and [15] (http://www.mirhelp.com/2017/02/gigabyte-ca-cad-02012017-02152017/), pushing it to $109. But does the MIR work because im buying it off amazon?

I`m kinda hesitant because i dont really need a bunch of features on my mobo due to cost, is this okay? I only really need my mobo to have these features, overclockable, 1 HDD + 1 SDD, 2x8 16GB RAM ddr4, usb3, 2 monitors support.

u/onschtroumpf · 1 pointr/buildapc

do i get the Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 or the MSI Z170-A Pro?

they cost about the same, one has the MIR to deal with (no big deal), the other will be restocked in two days (again not really a factor), is there anything else to consider between them? they're basically the two cheapest z170 on canadian pcpartpicker that aren't asrock

u/metalpillbug · 1 pointr/bapcsalescanada

Since I've bought most of my new parts its down to this;
Do I splash out and buy the Z170 Pro Aura from NCIX: http://www.ncix.com/detail/asus-z170-pro-gaming-atx-c9-135130.htm?promoid=2235
which apparantly has never been lower that 159.99 after MIR, or something much cheaper like amazons: https://www.amazon.ca/Gigabyte-2-Way-CrossFire-Motherboards-GA-Z170-HD3/dp/B012AQGKXC/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1480428768&sr=1-1&keywords=z170+motherboard

I like the minor RGB on the Asus, but its not a deal breaker, and it seems to have gotten generally good reviews. I'll be using an i6600k with 16gb RAM, a Hyper Cooler EVO and and EVGA G2 550W PSU with a Gigabyte gtx 1070 if it makes a difference.

u/fkjldsoljhodsgos · 1 pointr/bapcsalescanada

I'm planning on getting this deal but from amazon. These are the same, right? https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B012AQGKXC/?tag=pcp0f-20 Can anyone comment on the poor newegg reviews?

u/Hallorannn · 1 pointr/buildapc

Ditch that motherboard. It's B-class, and way too expensive.
Try this one instead, a GA170-HD3 Unless, of course, there were certain features you were wanting in the MSI M3 mobo that are absent in the GA one, then disregard this comment.

u/blueandstripey · 1 pointr/buildapc

u/gojays2025 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Which of these motherboards is the best for the value for a i5-6600k build in my case? This is my first time with a k-series Intel CPU and I'd like to try some overclocking. I don't really care for the audio/video features on the boards, but do appreciate USB ports and general performance. M.2 and USB Type-C are nice but totally unnecessary for me. Motherboards are my weakness, don't really understand why one can be so much more expensive than another.

Anyway I've been looking at these 3 at the moment:

AsRock Z170A-X1, $80 CAD

Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3, $108 CAD

ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming, $140 CAD

Obviously the AsRock board is pretty attractive to me due to the price, but is there a reason for me to get the more expensive boards?

Thanks!

Quickfire questions:

  1. How much does overclocking the GPU affect it's durability? If I overclock the 980ti Classified each time I play, roughly 1-2 hrs every weekday, how much would I have decreased its lifespan after...let's say a year?

  2. What is a solid Z170 motherboard that is SLI compatible? There is just so many options and 99% of them have complaints. I am looking at the [MSI Z170 SLI Plus] (https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Solution-Z170A-Motherboard-SLI/dp/B019EYYNP0/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8) but just like the others, quite a few of them turn out faulty. Budget is $200

  3. What is a solid wireless adapter? I cannot LAN my computer, but my wireless router just on the other side of my wall. A regular ol' Verizon Fios router, nothing fancy. The [Asus PCE-AC68 PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter] (http://pcpartpicker.com/product/8VMFf7/asus-wireless-network-card-pceac68) seems like it'll perform admirably, but the price is ridiculous. My budget is $50

  4. If you had to take a guess, how many FPS will the 1080ti gain compared to the 1080 across games on average?

Well, I guess I'll take that back. This mobo will work fine

I was more thinking if you plan to upgrade to an cpu in the future something you can overclock then you'll have to grab a new mobo to be able to overclock. I would recommend this one If you're think in the future you'll grab a i5-6600k or some other unlocked cpu then that would justify it. But only if you actually do plan on using the OC

Keep getting this message when I switch to a z chip:

Some Intel Z170 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Kaby Lake-S CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.

Are there any that wouldn't require updating BIOS?

Specifically, I'm looking at this one which seems like a steal. I'd love to know if it would work without updating BIOS.

So it would clearly depend on what BIOS it ships with which can't be predicted. I'd be in a really tough spot if I had to update I fear.

I think the main reason to get the Z170A SLI Plus is the better audio codec. IF you're ok with getting the older audio codec, MSI Z170A PC Mate may be a better choice, as its far cheaper. No USB-C on it though.

u/4psae · 1 pointr/buildapc

Either board is compatible with your build. However your case comes with 2 case fans and the Gigabyte only has 1 fan header while the MSI has 2.

But this looks to be the cheapest H110 motherboard on Amazon Canada, also comes with 2 fan headers.

If you don't know what an M.2 is then you don't need it. Don't sweat it for now.

  1. If you must buy amd (I understand budget but believe me you will be paying more in terms of electricity usage than a fairly recent intel processor) you must check out microcenters motherboard+cpu bundles here

  2. If you don't mind switching to intel (can't see why not :) for about 150 (same price as you paid for motherboard+cpu) you can get the much better performing a-10 7860k and a better mobo than you have. Even for 130 you have the better cpu with a decent mobo. That being said I truly want you to explore intels lga 1151 socket cpus, a great one to start with is the g4400 [here] (https://www.amazon.com/Intel-BX80662G4400-Pentium-Processor-FCLGA1151/dp/B015VPX05A/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469572148&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Intel+g4440). It is a lga 1151 compatible cpu that is very power efficient and can def run gta v on med low settings. It is only 61 bucks and you can later upgrade to a i5 that is the same socket for your mobo. A good budget mobo for that cpu is the Msi lga 1151 gaming here

that cpu mobo combo is not only better in terms on power consumption, single threaded performance, and upgradeability, but it saves you around 30 bucks.

Everything else is pretty much good although I would have tried to get the extra 100 for a 4gb 960, I understand if you were under a strict budget, I am too!

Tl:dr Better deal on amd mobo+cpu or go intel g4400 cus lga 1151 is better long term and more efficient.
    Congrats

If I link my motherboard Gigabyte B250M, does it change your current recommendations? And how do I determine if a motherboard is good or not?

u/bearwoodgoxers · 1 pointr/IndianGaming

Hey, I'm from Bangalore and I'm actually looking to upgrade my budget build that I made earlier this year in Feb. Which means I'm selling my Gigabyte B250M-DS3H and Pentium G4560. They're both amazing for a gaming on a budget (I get 60 fps+ easy on high settings on most games) but I'm upgrading to an i7 for work so don't need them anymore. PM me if you're interested, both parts are 7~ months old and I have all the receipts and everything, I promise to give you a fair price :)

If you're looking for something different, check out SP road. You can get some good deals there but be aware that the prices of computer parts have gone up quite a bit over the past few months. Make sure to look up what you need online and then haggle like there's no tomorrow!

EDIT: Notice you mentioned PrimeABGB. Check out The IT Depot as well, they don't charge delivery fees in Bangalore and Chennai afaik, and that's where I got my processor for cheaper than anywhere else.

So I ordered this motherboard with a Ryzen 5 1600 CPU, and MSI 1070 GAMING X GPU

  1. do I need to get a sound card to plug in headphones or speakers
  2. should it be easy to set up and install windows 10 on, once the PC is put together??
  3. will this ram be good with it? G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin SDRAM DDR4 3200

I pre-ordered the asus prime x370 pro witch I think has similar mounting holes. EDIT: at closer look it doesn't look like it has the same holes as the VI Hero.

u/fresh_leaf · 1 pointr/Amd

Looks you have 4 options...

MSI X370 XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM - Most expensive. I'd probably pass on this one personally, too expensive for the features on offer.

ASUS Crosshair VI Hero - Second most expensive, but probably the best one out of the ones up for pre-order on Amazon. 12 phase power design, decent feature set.

MSI X370 GAMING PRO CARBON - Quite a bit cheaper. Seems like a fairly decent board. 10 phase power design, claims support for 3200MHz(OC) RAM. Pretty decent feature set.

ASUS Prime X370-Pro - Cheaper again, and again a 10 phase power design. Supports 2666MHz RAM, but may well OC higher. A fairly nice feature set as well.

There are a few B350s available as well, but I personally wouldn't go for one as they're a bit of an unknown right now in terms of OC capabilities.

u/blu_blaze · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I wasn't able to really differentiate any of them - they are very similar. Let me give you two videos to watch, so that you may become more informed about the importance of good power delivery on the motherboard. I think you should make sure you cover all your bases and see if you can find a good deal on a high-end board in your price range. It is always a good idea to not "cheap out" on the cornerstone of your PC. Thus, I can't give you a definitive recommendation because I wouldn't choose any of them. Here is what I use with a Ryzen 2600, and I got it for $50 USD. Here and here are the videos you should watch. Enjoy!

EDIT: Chipsets are backwards-compatible with Ryzen, meaning you can use an X370 board with a Ryzen 2600 as long as it has been updated.

u/pdat · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

Awesome, thanks for all the useful information! Definitely liking this build. The case and fan look perfect for keeping this quiet at high performance.

The only concern I am having is on the motherboard. Looks like a lot of bad Amazon reviews (https://www.amazon.com/Prime-X370-Pro-Ryzen-Motherboard-Lighting/dp/B06WD4N297) related to the board being shipped with the wrong BIOS. Do you think I should hope everything goes OK, or is there a comparable MOBO you can recommend?

u/TheOrangeAngle · 1 pointr/buildapc

As for the mobo, I'm leaning towards the Asus X370 prime , do they look like a good fit together? From the spec sheets, it looks like they are compatible.

u/kalmaMG · 1 pointr/buildapc

I have an SLI bridge that comes with this motherboard, but am not against buying a different one for upgrading performance.

I currently have this Gigabyte 1080, not sure if this has anything to do with the performance of bridges though.

Not necessarily looking to do SLI right away, just want to be a bit more informed.

u/Space_Ferroth · 1 pointr/buildapc

I've reached the point in my build where I'm getting ready to start purchasing, however, I've run into an... uncertainty. The operating system I've chosen ( here ) is installed USB Flash drive. I have once before encountered an OS being installed from bootable flash drive, but I don't know if my chosen motherboard ( here ) can do it. Should I go ahead with my acquisitions or should I be looking for a CD copy of the OS?

u/MedicineGirl125 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Amazon has this Asus Prime X370-Pro motherboard available used on their warehouse deals. Would anyone recommend buying a used mobo, and what problems might I have going that route? It says it's in the original packaging, but would I maybe have to worry about not getting all the cables that come with it?

u/anovaremnant · 1 pointr/buildapc

I went with a 1700X myself. This is literally my first ever computer build and I am excited. I almost pulled the trigger on an i7 machine 2 weeks ago but then the ryzen stuff popped up on reddit and I am glad I waited.

The board I pre ordered was the Asus Prime https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WD4N297/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It has the most similar feature set to the Z270 board I was going to get & around the same price.

u/SgtBigPigeon · 1 pointr/Amd

I was told there was problems with ram speeds and posting. Also I was told that the board does not have a great life expectancy.

Here are some reviews of the board on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WD4N297/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Edit: Not sure if this is in conflict with rule 2. Admin delete if needed to be.

u/draw0c0ward · 1 pointr/buildapc

BTW, have you ordered anything yet? I found an excellent deal on a motherboard:

This Asus motherboard usually goes for $150, but you can get it "like new" from Amazon warehouse for $89, which amazing! It has much, much better VRMs (important for overclocking) than any B350 motherboard. Try to get this!

I feel like a dope. I just picked up an intel 9560 wireless AC adapter. for my desktop, and I realized I can't install it.

I have an older 7260 desktop PCIE adapter, but they aren't compatible, and I can't find a similar adapter anywhere for an m.2 2230 wifi card like the 9560.

I am currently working with a new Ryzen build, based around an ASRock b350 mobo. I have a NVME SSD in M.2 slot 1, and i was thinking about installing the network adapter in m.2 slot 2, but I am worried it won't work, and I don't want to get the antennas and whatnot if I'm just going to have to return everything anyway.

Does anyone have any advice before I just return this thing?

that cooler will be fine, but you need to get a am4 kit here https://www.bequiet.com/en/contact/coolermounting

that card will work fine.

That is laptop ram. You want this instead. https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-32GB-3200MHz-Memory/dp/B01ARHF6Z4. You can get lower speed ram for a bit less(about 330 usd), but your losing about 3-20% performance.

PSU will be fine.

Storage will work fine, but id get an addition edit drive fo rcurrent projects. Editing off a ssd is better than a hdd. You can always add this later.

Case is fine.

You can try using a USB to Ethernet adapter and test it that way as well. Also check the bios and see if you find anything related to LAN or Ethernet speed.

But ethernet adapter started to make troubles.I googled it and found it was a known issue of this product. This took me 3 days to figure out... If you're a student in high school or college, see if your school or college department has a Microsoft Imagine subscription, which could get you your windows license for free. That'll save a lot.

The K55 isn't mechanical, just a heads up. It's not half bad as a membrane keyboard though If you want mechanical with white backlighting, the Logitech G610 has sold on amazon for $60 a few times and uses Cherry MX Reds. There's also the Gigabyte Force K83, which lacks dedicated media and volume keys and backlighting, but is a steal at $40 (an LED desk lamp can kinda solve the lack of a backlight. I use the Logitech in my home office and the Gigabyte Force at work.

Otherwise, the only other thing I could think of is getting a Micro ATX board (shorter and usually 3-4 PCIe slots as opposed to ~7, most people don't use more than 3) to get the price to around $90. The ASRock AB350 Pro4 is around $90, despite being an ATX board:

Total Price: $904. Throw in Windows for an additional $90-$100. It's really hard to get a decent PC to be under $1,000 nowadays with the price of RAM and GPU's :( I think this build will suit you best though. It's definitely not bad,

u/zouxlol · 1 pointr/buildapc

It can't be OC'd, stock fan is fine if you go with that choice.

I honestly suggest for you to hold out a couple more paydays and get a better processor. For an extra ~$160 you can get an 8350k, a cooler, and motherboard for it. The 300 series motherboards are finally dropping in price making it extremely efficient cost per performance. MSI has one available for $119. You can even keep your DDR4 ram with this option.

The 1070ti is another upgrade option that might make waiting worth it. 1080 performance for less, making it pretty efficient per dollar.

u/ATLatimerr · 1 pointr/buildapc

For me over in the USA the price for the 2070 and the 1070TI are very close would not waste my money on older slower hardware than will be support for less time. As for the motherboard i mean i usually buy them along side the processor as they have to match in socket sizes but whatever get this

Description|In this video, we show how we created the NFL's 40-yard dash speed test that is used by scouts to evaluate the speed of potential American football prospects. To recreate the test, we used a Raspberry Pi, phototransistors, laser diodes, resistors, a analog-to-digital converter, and a simple Python stopwatch program. Using these materials, we created two laser tripwires separated by 40 yards. One tripwire starts the stopwatch, and the other stops the stopwatch. ⤶⤶For more information on the code and our wiring setup, visit our github repository: https://github.com/chris-gong/forty-yard-dash-rpi⤶⤶Thanks again to our friends for helping us out: Alex, Taylor, Ethan, Zach, and Grant⤶⤶Join our discord: https://discord.gg/2xbR5qT⤶Support us on patreon: https://www.patreon.com/flopperam⤶⤶Social media links:⤶Twitter: https://twitter.com/Flopperam⤶Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/flopperam/⤶Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/flopperam⤶Alex's Twitter: https://twitter.com/uhFakie⤶⤶Materials Used:⤶Raspberry Pi: https://www.amazon.com/ELEMENT-Element14-Raspberry-Pi-Motherboard/dp/B07BDR5PDW/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=raspberry+pi&qid=1565404835&s=gateway&sr=8-4⤶Phototransistors: https://www.amazon.com/HiLetgo-Phototransistor-Photosensitive-Sensitive-Sensors/dp/B00M1PMHO4/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=phototransistor&qid=1565404855&s=gateway&sr=8-2⤶Laser diodes: https://www.amazon.com/HiLetgo-10pcs-650nm-Diode-Laser/dp/B071FT9HSV/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=laser+diode&qid=1565404876&s=gateway&sr=8-3⤶Breadboards: https://www.amazon.com/Breadboards-Solderless-Breadboard-Distribution-Connecting/dp/B07DL13RZH/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=breadboard&qid=1565404905&s=gateway&sr=8-3⤶Battery holders: https://www.amazon.com/LAMPVPATH-Battery-Holder-Bundle-Single/dp/B07BNMKNQX/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=battery+holder&qid=1565405063&s=gateway&sr=8-5⤶Analog-to-Digital converter: https://www.amazon.com/HiLetgo-Converter-Programmable-Amplifier-Development/dp/B01DLHKMO2/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=raspberry+pi+adc&qid=1565405226&s=gateway&sr=8-3⤶Breadboard wires: https://www.amazon.com/EDGELEC-Breadboard-Optional-Assorted-Multicolored/dp/B07GD2BWPY/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=breadboard+wires&qid=1565404930&s=gateway&sr=8-3⤶10k ohm resistors: https://www.amazon.com/Projects-100EP51210K0-10k-Resistors-Pack/dp/B0185FIOTA/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=10k+ohm+resistors&qid=1565404944&s=gateway&sr=8-3⤶⤶Music Creds⤶Song: Royalty Free Music | Victory - Hip Hop Beat | No Copyright Instrumental⤶Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4D-LoMTbvx4⤶Music & Arrangement: Marjan Gjorgjievski⤶Mix & Mastering: Marjan Gjorgjievski⤶⤶Song: Lakey Inspired - Blossom⤶Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7ArnZl_zBU⤶Follow the artist, Lakey Inspired:⤶https://www.facebook.com/LAKEYINSPIRED⤶https://soundcloud.com/lakeyinspired⤶http://instagram.com/lakeyinspired⤶⤶#nfl #40yarddash #raspberrypi

raspberry 34€

I never used one before the past few weeks either, and I'm never looking back. The buttons feel great, the Pi responds immediately...my only complaint is that the 1 and 2 shoulder buttons on both sides are a little too close, but that's negligible, you get used to it quick.

Here are my RetroPie details:

I have a powercolor rx480 with a watercooled 8350. On none of the games I experience bottlenecking. If a game is cpu intensive, maybe it's a bad design. Most of the processing is suppose to be done on the gpu not the cpu.

It's possible it's motherboard related and your pci-e bus is version 1.0 instead of 2.0? Or maybe only running at 1.0? When running cpu-id, it shows my bus going from version 1.0 to 2.0 then back down to 1.0 when I'm out.

I'm also running a top rated board. https://www.amazon.com/M5A99FX-PRO-R2-0-990FX-Motherboard/dp/B008B6ONXK Surprisingly, used boards are going for $180+ lol

Gigabyte AM3+ AMD 970 which replaced my ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z it's the AM3 chipset back in 2013.

the upgrade to am4 or threadripper will bring me some major gains! nvme, dd4 and cpu threads!

your initial post was nothing of the sort. it was 4 links to generic computer hardware.

look at me! i'm making a post that contributes a meaningful discussion of star citizen:

Is this deal worth jumping on? I haven't been checking the price for this mobo, and this seems like a decent sale.

Or should I go for this one?

I didn't I just use this subreddit for my prices. For the most part I know what these cost on sales. But here, I can post examples:

GPU: ( I was $80 off of best deal, close to msrp) https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/d953mf/gpu_gigabyte_gtx_1060_6gb_windforce_oc_120_250_130/

PSU: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/czmyx2/psu_enermax_revolution_duo_700w_80_plus_gold/ ($30 I was right on)

CPU: (I was $50 off) https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/d48p8r/cpu_intel_i5_8400_89/

MOBO: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B075GN9YC4?ie=UTF8&&condition=used&creativeASIN=B075GN9YC4 ($55 not $50)

Case: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/dwsKHx/rosewill-case-fbm01 ($30 not 20, although $20 case isnt unreasonable, I have gotten them for free with mail in rebates)

RAM: I got this one wrong. I was thinking 15$ per 8gbs, but its $15 per 4gbs ($60 not $30).

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/dfocmn/ram_corsair_vengeance_rgb_pro_16gb_2_x_8gb/

I was $95 off. Its ~$400 to built the equivalent pc.
