I am as progun as they come. I keep my firearms in a heavy safe, with one home defense pistol in a separate smaller quick-access safe near the bed.

If there is even a small chance a kid will wander around your home, FUCKING LOCK THAT SHIT UP. It's really not that hard. Especially if you just have a pistol, small safes or lockboxes can be had for under $50. If even that is too much, cable locks are like $5. No excuses. Stop making us all look bad.

Thankfully, accidental gun deaths are now under 500 a year, even though we have at least 100 million gun owners. It's a shrinking problem. But let's get it as close to 0 as possible. Each one is a tragedy.

EDIT -

Here is one for $20. It will fit a pistol or two. It obviously won't stop a determined adult with a bit of time, but will at least keep curious toddlers at bay. Buy a better, heavier safe if you can.

Build a complete AR-15 using the stripped lower linked in the OP for $35 plus the following parts:

  • Delta Team Tactical Rifle Build Kit (minus BCG, mag, and sights) - $235 shipped (free domestic shipping on orders over $120)

  • BCA 5.56 BCG from Primary Arms - $70

  • Magpul M3 30-rd PMAG from Primary Arms - $10

  • Shipping on the lower, BCG, and mag from PA - $7.50

  • Budget Amazon Red Dot that doesn't seem too shabby - $23 shipped with Prime

Total: $380.50 shipped for an AR15

This isn't gonna be a nice AR by any means and in fact I expect it to come out looking pretty butt ugly, but it is an AR, and I would expect it to go pew if you assemble it correctly. Good luck!

Edit: The barrel in this build kit looks like it is a fluted, heavy, stainless 416R Bear Creek Arsenal barrel that sells for $95 on their website. It is the "better" 416R steel, according to their specs, and it is .223 Wylde with a 1:8" twist, so that combined with the free-floated handguard and you might actually be able to expect pretty decent groups.

    Final Edit - 5/9/17 10:30 AM EDT

Lower receiver marked back up to $45 making this a $390.50 complete AR now. Deal marked NSFW as it no longer reflects the title price.

I have this

Most boxes aren't going to stop determined criminals, but in a smash and grab where your box is cable-locked to the hardware under your seat (which is totally hidden anyway), this will deter most in such cases.

u/MarcusDohrelius · 26 pointsr/gundeals

Shipping is $30+ dollars at Midway (the add a free-ship item to bring down cost trick is no more). You can pick up a similar storage cabinet for $92 shipped on Amazon

Edit: see Wal-Mart deal below

You need dis . Buddy has one and swears by it. For super secret undercover reasons.

If you can't wear fingerless gloves, the next best thing are something like these. Light and breathable and not bulky so you have some dexterity.

I've never found a pair of glasses that won't fog up eventually, so just get some anti-fog wipes or some Cat Crap.

u/DragonCenturion · 14 pointsr/reloading

Just get the Lee Decapping Die. Its cheaper and works with everything except Berdan brass(nothing works with berdan brass). As long as you read the instructions it'll power through anything, including military crimp.
As for the crimp, you'll need to remove the crimp, either through swaging or reaming, after you decap.

u/Citi19 · 12 pointsr/guns

I'm only speaking from a few months experience so I'm sure someone can give you a more complete answer, but I have used This Otis kit and it works fine for cleaning my handguns and my .22 rifle. This video shows you how to use it on a bolt action.

I'm mostly just commenting to tell you that you picked a really nice first rifle.

FYI, if you're not a fan of the pink, the normal tactical cleaning kit is $35 shipped on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Otis-Tactical-Cleaning-System-Shotgun/dp/B0000C52A5

u/NonReligiousPopette · 11 pointsr/running

Heeeeeey glasses wearers! Last week I raved about silicone temple grips to help keep spectacles from shimmying down the nose and cutting off air supply. This week I'm going to continue on that theme with a couple of anti-fog reviews.

First I tried two home remedies to keep my lenses from fogging up while I run. The first is good ol' saliva. I horked a glob on my lenses, rubbed it around with my finger, gagged a couple of times, and begrudgingly put my glasses on. As soon as my spit dried, my glasses were left with streaks and splotches that were almost worse than the fog that happened before I reached the end of the block.

The second home remedy I tried was dish detergent. I coated a thin layer of dawn on my glasses and lightly buffed it with my tee shirt before setting off on my run. It must have been a self-fulfilling prophecy situation. I was terrified of my sweaty eyelashes rubbing against my lenses and picking up bits of soap to sting my eyes. And that's exactly what happened. Minimal fog, though!

I ordered a couple of products on Amazon to try as well. The first was a generic cleaning wipe that's apparently so generic and worthless, Amazon doesn't remember me ordering them. I've got the box to my left, and yet searching for it on Amazon and checking my order history yields nothing. As far as anti-fog properties, it yielded nothing, too. It did make my glasses pleasantly clean, though.

Up next we have Cat Crap. I was having flashbacks to the dish detergent day when I tried this stuff and my eyes could not stop watering. Or maybe I was sobbing. I don't really recall. What I DO recall is my entire run that day, on the lense I put the Cat Crap on, was so incredibly clear, I could see the reflection of my tears in my lenses if I angled the daylight just right. I ended up looping back to my car to coat a thin layer of Cat Crap on my other lense and buffed it with my tee shirt.

The last product I tried was Jaws Quick Spit. After cleaning my glasses thoroughly (that Cat Crap worked for a couple of days 'cause I'm gross and don't clean my glasses unless they're visibly soiled), I spritzed a bit of Spit on one lense, buffed it clean with my tee shirt. Are you seeing a pattern here with the buffing? It works considerably better with all products if you use a cotton tee over a dri-fit tech shirt. My lense only fogged up in the tiniest streak where I must have missed a spot. By the end of the day, they were right back to fogging when I opened the dishwasher too soon.

The Cat Crap ended up being my favourite for a couple of reasons.

  • You can control exactly how much goes on your glasses, and the tiniest amount is really all you need. While the Spit worked as well as the Cat Crap, you're left to the mercy of the spray pump, and I had a lot of wasted product come off onto my shirt.

  • It's such a small, convenient container. It can fit into the tiny, unused pockets of hydration systems. It can sit unnoticed in a pocket. Hell, you can probably tuck it in your sock, not that you would have much need. As I said, it lasted for a couple of runs.

  • It lasted for multiple runs! Hell, my glasses didn't even fog up in the bathroom for my post-run shower.
u/FoosYou · 10 pointsr/guns

Yup, using a gun mount magnet from Amazon.

I just started using it but I think it will work out great for me. I work from home most of the time so it's a good spot for my EDC to live. It's not immediately visible so I'm not worried about an intruder finding it during a break-in while we're sleeping and it's with me if I leave the house.

I added the padding discs on top of it and that reduced the magnet strength a bit so I ordered a second magnet. It held there fine if I put it right in the sweet spot but I didn't want to risk it ever falling off.

u/JMV290 · 9 pointsr/gundeals

I've been keeping an eye on this for a while and it finally has dropped to a price I'd feel comfortable paying. It's not the cheapest it's ever been but it generally doesn't drop below this (other than the one instance in April). They're normally $118-$140 on Amazon.

And yes, as with every security cabinet ever posted: Everyone is aware this isn't a safe and won't stop theft if someone really wants to break in. They're for securing guns from guests or kids while also meeting state storage requirements.

u/15minutesofshame · 9 pointsr/gundeals

You can pick up an Aimpoint Pro on Amazon for $435. That's >$30.

u/cameronabab · 9 pointsr/airsoft

The gat is obviously a Real Sword Type 97B. The red dot is this cheap one and the bungee sling is this one. The suppressor is a foam filled one I picked up for cheap from a local guy, not sure exactly what the brand is. It does have HK trademarks though

u/PhDinBroScience · 9 pointsr/CCW

Just get a car lockbox like this and put it in there.

I do this twice every day in my work's parking garage in the middle of a populous city just outside Washington DC. Tinted windows help, but even then, if you're doing it while seated, no one is going to see it anyway. They're going to see a dude bending back in his seat. You could be adjusting your pants/belt/balls for all they can tell. It's not a big deal.

OH I’m sorry I misunderstood. Most people are like “what do you carry? Well that’s not the right holster you need this holster!” Lol sorry for the weird response!

I use this holster right here.

It works well for kidney carry in my experience.

US PeaceKeeper P21111 Small Punch Roll for Armorer's Tools

It is perfect for my needs and you really can't beat the price.

u/random157294683 · 8 pointsr/reloading

Frankford Arsenal powder trickler. Compact, nice heavy base for stability, even flow. I also have an RCBS trickler and hate it. It's not as stable and the dispensing arm thingy is a weird two piece design that never seem to flow well for me.
GemPro 250 digital scale. Do not waste your money on cheaper options. I don't have experience with the chargemaster type of scale. I like to do things manually.
Redding Imperial Sizing Die Wax. Best stuff there is. Works amazingly well. I also keep a lanolin/alcohol spray lube around for doing large batch work, but Imperial Sizing Wax does a better job.
Hornady Bullet Comparator set. You don't mention what cartridges you're reloading. THIS KIT DOES NOT INCLUDE 6.5mm. There's a 14 insert kit that includes more, or you can buy just the few inserts you need.
Frankford Arsenal bullet puller. I buy what's cheap. These don't last forever. All the hammering eventually cracks the plastic. I've tried several brands and they all break eventually. I usually keep two on hand.

So that covers what you already know you need. Here are some more recommendations.

Hornady 9th Edition. I use this more than all my other manuals combined. I shoot a lot of Hornady bullets, though. If you already have a favorite bullet brand, you should buy that brand's manual.

Lyman Shooters Check Weights. I use these every single time I reload. I like knowing that my scale isn't lying to me. Digital scales can be finicky sometimes! These are worth every penny.

Hornady Headspace Comparator set. This is a lot like the bullet comparator set, except that it measure to the shoulder of the case instead of the ogive of the bullet. If you're planning on monitoring the amount you're bumping your shoulders during resizing, this is what you need.

Lyman Case Prep Multi-Tool. The chamfer tool that came with your kit will do the job, but this Lyman multi tool is my preferred method. It also comes with primer pocket scrapers that will be useful, and primer pocket reamers you should throw away and never use.

RCBS Uniflow Powder Baffle. This will help your uniflow powder measure throw more consistent charges.

RCBS Advanced Powder Measure Stand. If you're going to do a permanent installation of your powder measure on your bench, you will want this stand. Its price is absurd, but it's a great stand.

RCBS Universal case loading block. Your kit came with one, but you need at least one more.

What is your plan for cleaning brass? Wet tumbling with steel pins is the way to go. I have the Frankford Arsenal unit. It's huge and noisy. If I had it to do over I would purchase the dual drum tumbler from Harbor Freight and buy steel pins from Amazon.

Redding dies don't come with shellholders. Did you remember to get one?

What is your plan for case trimming? You don't mention what you're reloading. The cheapest option, which is actually my preferred method, is the Lee case length gauge and shellholders with their cutter and lock studs.

There are some additional case prep tools, but they would depend on what you're doing. If you are dealing with brass that has military crimps, you'll need tools to deal with that. There are primer pocket brushes, primer pocket uniformers, flash hole deburring tools, and a million other little things.

That's all that's coming to mind right now. I'm sure I missed some stuff.

u/ChanceLover · 8 pointsr/VAGuns

I had an amazing time, getting to shoot basically every service rifle used in WW2 all in the same day was awesome.

Many thanks to the guys who shuttled my girlfriend and I up to the range and back down again. To the gentleman who gave us a ride back down (whose username I didn't get), the racks I use for my ammo cans are the MTM AC4C. Next time we're definitely borrowing a truck and maybe camping for the weekend.

Some sort of belly wrap holster

Ultimate Belly Band Holster for Concealed Carry | Black | Fits Gun Smith and Wesson Bodyguard, Shield, Glock 19, 42, 43, P238, Ruger LCP, and Similar Sized Guns | For Men and Women | Right Hand Draw https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DEGYTC6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_nIbMAbT479TG1

u/musicals4life · 7 pointsr/CCW

I’ve used this bellyband for a year now and it’s great. It has a retention strap that I use when I’m at the gym and running on the treadmill but I just tuck it inside the belly band when I’m not working out. Havent had any issues. I’ll buy it again when this one eventually wears out, but I don’t see that happening for a while.

Edit: they have changed the strap. It used to be a hook but now it’s a button snap.

Edit 2: and the price has gone down significantly

u/brennok · 7 pointsr/gundeals

They also have MTM ACR7-18 Ammo Crate Utility Box on sale for $11.49, but it is OOS. You have to change seller to Amazon. This is also the lowest historic price per CamelCamelCamel.

In addition to MTM AC4C Ammo Crate (4-Can for $24.99 which is also the lowest historic price from Amazon

u/xxxJakkxxx · 7 pointsr/ar15

Here you go. $100 shipped. Not too heavy but will keep honest people honest and them out of sight.

u/midnightblade · 7 pointsr/gundeals

Seems like a pretty good deal considering the optic sells for $420 on amazon Here.

So it's like you're paying $480 $580 for a full M4 style AR-15. Doesn't seem to be marked up very much to me.

=( My math is bad as /u/MyFishIsGold pointed out

u/zxj4k3xz · 7 pointsr/airsoft

The trigger contacts on the CM18 will wear out sooner or later on an 11.1v lipo because it has no mosfet. Get a 7.4v lipo or 9.6v nimh.

You can get cheaper batteries on Hobbyking. I'd also recommend the Imax B6AC charger. It's just a great charger that can do whatever you need.

6mmproshop mags are shit. PTS EPMs, G&P High RPS, and Ares Amoeba mid caps worked in me and my brother's G&Gs.

Those Edge goggles have no impact ratings. Avoid them. Valken goggles are rebranded Pyramex or their in-house garbage. Pyramex I-force are fantastic for the price. Lower face protection, like a One Tigris mask would be a good idea as well.

Those red dots are shit. If you really want a red dot the Field Sport micro dot are pretty good for the price. You'll definitely want a riser

u/JohnnyJaymes · 7 pointsr/CCW

At very least get one of those cheapy $20 lockboxes that attach under the seat with a cable.

Literally 2 days ago I was picking up my newest firearm from my LGS and they got 2 calls in the hour or so I was there asking if a stainless Smith & Wesson, a Glock something or other, and then a third one (don't remember) happened to be sold them.

From the sounds of it he said in our area there's been a rash of car break-ins. I also follow the local/surrounding police Facebook pages and have seen it confirmed on there.

If you have to leave it, LOCK IT UP!

Otherwise you could inadvertently add to the "ghost guns" bad guys use and that the media loves to report about.

u/KeithKilgore · 7 pointsr/CCW

Get you one of these. It is a cheap way to love that easily concealable 7 round mag a lot more.

Amazon.com - Shield 9mm Pearce Magazine Grip Extension

u/AreaLeftBlank · 7 pointsr/Firearms

My fiancée got This when she started carrying her sccy. It works well for her (she's on the small side 5'4 115 lbs wet) in just about any position she put it. She's worn it for a long time (around 10 hours) and never heard a complaint.

BTW good choice in the sccy. We loved hers and actually ended up buying another one. In our experience they've been stellar performers and reliable like more expensive ones on the market.

I use Cat Crap on my ski googles to prevent fogging.

No, really.

>Seating Die:

Seating dies push the bullet down into the case and for pistol cases remove the belling done by the expanding die. Many seating dies can optionally apply a crimp, though some people dislike this because the bullet is still being pushed downward as the crimp is applied. Some seating dies come with multiple or reversible seating stems, this allow you to seat different profiled bullets(FMJ/Ball, Spitzer, VLD, etc) bullets without damaging them.

>Crimp Die:

Crimping dies push the case mouth into the jacket/lead of the bullet. This helps secure the bullet from ‘walking’ out of the case under recoil. There are taper crimps, often used in semi-auto oriented rounds that start from the base of the bullet and slowly narrow as it moves upwards towards the bullet and roll crimps which fold the very edge of the case mouth inwards. Roll crimps are often used on revolver cartridges like 44mag or 38spl and rifle rounds. Taper crimps are used on things like 9mm.

>Factory Crimp Die:

A Factory Crimp Die or FCD is kind of like a fail safe. If a bullet is slightly too large or that particular round didn’t get seated far enough a FCD will correct the mistake. It doesn’t make an unsafe round(say from a bad powder charge) safe to shoot, but it will help make sure all your rounds chamber. Since many people don’t like to seat and crimp on the same step, they use their FCD as their only crimp die.

>Powder Check Die:

A powder check die has a small free floating ram in the middle that drops into the case. It provides an easy way to spot check powder levels based on how high it raises. Some powder check dies will lock the press when they detect an over/under charge. In practice the low powder volume and wide case can make powder check dies unreliable for pistol loads. If you do use a powder check die you shouldn’t let it lull you into a sense of false security, you should still be visually checking your charges.

>Powder Throwers:

This isn’t a “die” so much, but many do fit directly onto your press. They dispense or ‘throw’ a specific charge of powder every time they are activated. Do to the nature of how they work how accurate they are depends on the type of powder you are using. Flake powders and long extruded powders measure with much more variation than ball or short stick powders. Throwers come in three flavors; Case activated, manual, and press activated. Press activated throwers dispense powder anytime the press ram is moved up. This is fine for a single stage press, but on a progressive press it is just a big mess waiting to happen. A manual powder thrower has a small handle you actuate anytime you want to dispense powder. These are great, as long as you don’t forget to pull the lever for every case. Case activated throwers only dispense powder when a case goes into them. These are great, especially on progressive presses.

>Bullet Feeding Die:

Bullet feeding dies place a bullet into the belled/charged case. With a bullet feed die you don’t need to manually place a bullet for each round. While the dies themselves are 20-40 dollars they won’t always save you time without an automatic bullet feeder hopper which can cost several hundred dollars. Only useful on progressive presses.

>Case Feed:

Again this isn’t technically a die, but it attaches to your progressive press and places a new case into your shell plate automatically. These are specific to your press and usually cost several hundred dollars.

Many powder throwers can be given a PTX add on that will expand as well as charge the case. On a progressive or turret press this saves you a spot on your press and on a single stage it saves you from having to do a separate belling step.

Shell Plates

Most die sets come with a shell holder of a matching caliber to keep the brass in the press. However if you are buying your dies piecemeal you’ll need to get a shell holder set. Progressive presses use “shell plates” which hold multiple rounds at a time. These can be proprietary and will need to be purchased separate from your dies.

Lee shell holder set $27.99

Hornady LnL AP shell plate 9mm $24.64

Case Trimmer

When a round is fired the case is under such extreme pressure that the brass actually acts like a plastic. It expands outwards in all directions until the chamber stops it. In front of the round however there is nothing to stop the brass from flowing. Because of this the brass grows in length. After a few firings the brass may be too long to fit in the chamber of a gun again. To combat this after sizing your brass(which further alters its dimensions) you measure it. If it is too long you need to cut some of that excess off with a case trimmer until it is the proper size again. This is primarily only a concern for rifle brass.

Case trimmers can be free hand, manual, and motorized. Free hand allows you to remove brass, but requires you to check with a case gauge often to ovoid over trimming. Manual trimmers allow you to set a certain length to cut to and do all rounds to that length rotating a small lever by hand. Motorized trimmers allow you to set a length and very quickly trim a large amount of cases. Some manual trimmers can have drills attached to make them faster. Not all motorized trimmers can handle multiple calibers.

Lee Zip Trim $21.99 and Lee Cutting Ball $9.99

Lyman Universal Trimmer $82.99

World’s Finest Trimmer .223 $75.95

Chamfer/Deburr tools

Chamfering removes a bit of metal from the inside lip of the case so that bullets seat more smoothly. Deburring is removing a small amount from the outside edge of the case mouth to help remove any burrs or flakes caused by chamfering. You don’t need to do either on pistol rounds as the case is belled wide enough to accept the bullet without it.

You can also chamfer primer pockets. This will make seating easier and in the case of crimped primer pockets it is required.

Again, there are manual and motorized options available. Motorized is worth it for anything above small batches.

Lee Chamfer Tool $3.99

Lyman Case Prep Multi Tool $22.99

Hornady Case Prep Trio $99.99

Bullet Puller

In the process of setting up your dies you’re going to make some dummy rounds. No primer, no powder, just case a bullet to dial in your case bell, seating depth, and crimp. You can just throw these rounds away. . . or you can get a bullet puller and recover your components. There are kinetic bullet pullers that work well with heavier bullets(125gr+ in my experience) and collet bullets that attach to your press.

Frankfort Arsenal Kinetic Bullet Puller $17.76

Hornady Cam-lock Bullet Puller $31.56

Hey, we can always try to help you. Ar15.com might have a better forum but that's a semi-closed off website compared to reddit.

Just from the looks of it the Sig Micro Red dot you posted looks a lot like an Aimpoint T2. The Aimpoint is top of the line (think, best you can really purchase) as far as quality is concerned. I'll be the first to admit I don't hear much good or bad about Sig Optics so I won't act like I know how well they hold up.

An entry level red dot would be something like the Holosun for 170$ compared to the 340$ you might pay for the Sig Dot you mentoined earlier.

In my opinion, there's three tiers of optics you can buy. You can buy horrible Chi-Com shit from China that will cost you 35$ total. You can buy entry level optics like the Holosun, Vortex, or Sig (low price to high), or you can go all in and get a top shelf optic like an Aimpoint, Trijicon, or [debatably] an EoTech.

If you're worried about "overpaying" for low quality, but you're willing to spend 350-400, buying an Aimpoint PRO would be right in your realm. You'll receive extremely high quality glass for a decent price. They retain their value over the years, and if your husband knows anything about firearms, he'll be super happy with throwing it on a rifle. (edit: your post history says your husband is familiar with Special Operations Units, so I know he'll have heard of Aimpoint).

Buying him a Holosun or the Sig red dot would be a good alternative, but if you can justify it in your budget, get him something you know he'll be happy with. An Aimpoint is hard to beat. He can save up another 200$, re-sell the PRO and upgrade himself to a Aimpoint Micro if he's looking for that style of optic down the road.

A lot of people are complaining about their shooting glasses fogging up. If that's the case, I can wholeheartedly recommend this product: Cat Crap anti-fog and lens polisher. This stuff works great. I've used it for scuba diving masks, paintball and airsoft masks and my Oakley half-jackets in Iraq. I have yet to find a better product.

u/Axelstall · 5 pointsr/airsoft

CatCrap

Rub it on the inside of the goggles, let dry for 1 minute, then buff off with a microfiber. I use it all year round in Texas so heat and sweat build up in there usually. I have never fogged once I started using it on the inside lens only.

And a tip, if water is beading (But not fogging), it's better to just leave it because in my experience it's less likely to fog when it's beading up.

u/southofi10 · 5 pointsr/reloading

If you think that's the problem, you may also want to try the Lee Univeral Decapper. I deprime all of my brass on an LNL with one of these before I wet tumble. That adds another step to the process, but dem shiny primer pockets, tho! And, you avoid running dirty brass through your dies.

  • Metal locking cabinet

  • Stud Finder

  • Some lag screws with washers

Use the stud finder to locate a stud in your wall (closets can be a good place), mark it above the top of the safe. Take your safe, find the holes in the back (or drill some) Mark the top of the safe in line with the holes in the back. Line up both marks, getting the safe as close to the wall as possible (you might need to put it up on some plywood if there is a kicker board). Drive the bolts into the stud anchoring it in place.

This is easy to remove and patching 4 or 5 screw holes in drywall is something that most apartment dwellers will be doing anyway.

This seems like a good deal to get the majority of what someone would need right off the bat to start reloading (but it doesnt come with a case trimmer....there are cheaper models out there) even so though you'll probably start to upgrade parts very quickly (if not immediately) from a better hand prep tool that would also allow you to remove military crimps as well as chamfur and deburr (and then maybe eventually to a prep centerif you start reloading a lot)

And so on, so it really depends if someone is going to jump in with both feet it may be cheaper for them to buy the parts seperately but if youre just looking to do a little casually or try it out this sounds totally worth it. It is addictive and personally im halfway through case prepping 4000 556 cases which isnt the easiest on a single stage press but will save me several hundred dollars over purchasing from the factory (as well as the ability to tune loads for each rifle)

There are reloading deals out there for materials, but press kits like this will save some people money but cost others 'more' (as they will probably upgrade certain things) still great to get into

u/ahorribleidea · 5 pointsr/reloading

I would recommend upgrading to a nice digital scale, it will make things easier.

Maybe get a few of these if you haven't yet thought about how you're going to store your loaded ammo.

I have that same tumbler, works great. I would also suggest a separator for afterwords. Some brass polish is nice too.

I think that kit comes with a hand trimmer, but I would recommend a larger one, your hands will thank you.

I went with a Lyman kit for my starter set, and while it's a lot more expensive than yours, I've been very pleased with it.

When you start doing 223 you'll also want a case length trimmer. This one works pretty well for me.

Your home defense gun should not be kitchen, it should be in the bedroom. Not all your guns in the bed room, just the one you will be using for Home defense.

With a handgun you can try a simple desk drawer like this

For a long gun you can try one of these and keep the keys nearby, I wouldn't really trust the biometric part.

The handguard is a Knights RAS picatinny rail. I don't believe they sell them anymore. There are substitutes. Rails

The laser device is a PEQ15. The real one looks to be about $1400. Here is the Airsoft version. PEQ 15

There doesn't look to be a rear sight, but the actual M4 rear sight is a MaTech

Stock is a standard M4 stock. The suppressor piece looks to be fitted over the barrel. This should work with a 16in barrel.

Good luck with the build.

Personally?

Lee Challenger 50th Anniversary kit.. Last time I did the math, even with the pieces I don't use, it came out cheaper than the individual components.

I wouldn't bother wasting the weeks of trying to get the included measure to throw properly for pistol rounds and would have gone straight to the Lee Pro Auto-Disk with the Adjustable Charge Bar. That thing throws accurate enough for pistol plinking with a few modifications.

I'd also pop right off the bat for a Universal Decapper so I could decap before wet tumbling.

Oh, and I'd get a chronograph and tripod from the start, too.

For dies, I like Lee. I'd just snag whatever dies I needed. I'd also get the various bits and baubles: Bullet puller, digital scale, digital calipers, etc.

u/lilkiduno · 4 pointsr/reloading

For your requests I would recommend the following:

Harbor Freight Grinder Stand

Plywood

Lee Reloader Single Stage Press

Lee Universal Decapping and Depriming Die

Frankford Arsenal Tumbler Kit

This will get you in the door with pretty much the basic tools to begin your cleaning & depriming steps taken care of.

You can piece this together $25-$30 at a time. This set up will give you a work area you can make as big/small as you need it.

u/Bareen · 4 pointsr/reloading

The 3lb would work, but if you can get a deal on the 6lb one, I'd get it. I have the 6lb one(dual drum) and if I remember correctly, I do 50 cases of .308 or 7.62x54r cases per drum, each works out to be about 1lb of brass. For 9mm and 45acp, I weigh out a pound on a kitchen scale.

I do 1lb brass, 1lb stainless steel pins, 1 lb water, a squirt of laundry soap, and a 9mm case worth of lemishine.

I deprime before cleaning with a Lee depriming die.

I tumble for 30 min to an hour, then separate from the pins, rinse, and let dry.

I also load on a single stage about once a month, and it works great for me.

If you have any questions, you can PM me.

I just recently bought a KRISS Vector GEN II CRB a couple of days ago as my new primary home defense weapon. I'm still waiting for it to be delivered to my FFL. I wrote a detailed comment justifying my decision to go with a 9mm carbine that you can read here if you're interested. TL;DR version: Not enough people are considering how insanely loud their self-defense firearms are.

As to which accessories I plan to add to it once I get my hands on it, first and foremost, an INFORCE WMLx. I also have an Aimpoint Micro T-2, a 33-round Glock magazine, and some 147-grain 9mm Federal HST rounds (standard pressure) waiting for it. That's it. A weapon light is really all that you need on a home defense weapon in my opinion. I honestly don't think that red dot sights are really needed for home defense; I just have one because I'm a gun nut that likes to buy gadgets.

As to safes, I bought a few of these cheap biometric safes from Barska and hid them in closets throughout my house. I didn't really plan to store firearms throughout my house in order to deal with a home invasion; but it became a convenient way to justify my gun collection. I've been considering upgrading to safes that are disguised as furniture, but I'm probably going to wait until I move before I do that. Right now the cheap Barska safes are working fine for me.

u/telemachus_sneezed · 4 pointsr/guns

Can anyone recommend a cheap firearm locker that doesn't have egregious QC problems, give you problems getting your carbine out to shoot an intruder, or can be pried open with a simple crobar?

I'm thinking about BARSKA Quick Access Biometric Rifle Safe, but its really bugging me paying $300 for something that doesn't shoot. Small size is oddly desirable, in my circumstances. Any ragingly positive reviews on STACK-ON products?

u/OnNom · 4 pointsr/sanfrancisco

I personally have a handgun-safe tethered under my seat. Not the most secure thing ever as a pair of bolt-cutters can defeat the tether. That said, still better than leaving it in a locked glove box as it likely won't be noticed and they may not have bolt-cutters on them at the time.

The travel won’t be that much of a hassle, I travel with my CC gun. Here's a cheaper, lower-risk, higher-readiness alternative to what most would recommend (quick access rifle safe, etc):

If you are only concerned with keeping it secure from your 1-year-old, a magnet on the wall might work.

You could easily mount it high enough that the buttstock is around your eye level, and you reach over your head to pull it off the wall. That'll keep your kids from getting access until they are a lot taller and stronger.

I have my home defense shotgun in the corner of the room next to our bed, and I use one of those magnets to keep it secured to the wall because our big dogs had a tendency to knock into it when they were playing or excited about breakfast.

Those magnets are VERY strong. I can put it in the palm of my hand, press the back of my hand to the fridge and the magnet will hold through my hand. 1 would easily hold an AR off the ground. 1 holds my 870 with 10+ shells in/on it.

This is the one I used and mounted through the wall to a stud (looks like it's rated for 25 lbs): http://amzn.com/B00LR454YU

Thought I would share a belly band I just purchased and tweaked a bit to suit my needs...

Here's the review I posted on Amazon:
This thing is great after some modifications, especially for the price! We'll see how well it holds up long-term.
I didn't like the retention strap or how the elastic held the gun in place, so I cut it off. I decided to modify the belly band a bit by shoving one of my Concealment Express IWB holsters into the elastic slot, and took off the kydex holster clip then screwed it back onto the kydex THROUGH the elastic so it would hold super securely, be fully encased in Kydex, and have the retention of a full kydex holster.

Very nice and comfortable to use now that it's been modified. I just put on the band, and then pull up my athletic shorts and use the clip over them as I would normally do on my EDC belt.

easier than building your own box. Check the length of your guns, though, 52" is kinda short for a shotgun and you may want a slightly larger model.

u/Szalkow · 3 pointsr/austinguns

Since you acknowledge that it's temporary, let's assume expanding the collection isn't an issue.

Stack-On 8 Gun Cabinet gets the job done for under $100. You can usually find it at Academy for a similar price.

It says eight guns, but for "real" guns with scopes and stocks and such it's more like four long guns. Has a little shelf at the top for pistols. Plus, it's light enough that when you move you can just pack it up and take it with you.

If you're allowed to drill into the floor or walls, you can bolt it down and no one can carry it off without tools. Otherwise, I'd consider stacking a hundred pounds of ammo at the bottom.

u/Cemeterystoneman · 3 pointsr/gundeals

This totally will be accurate enough (I don't have this particular model) but it weighs each load so you can see what you're charging before you actually do - but can potentially slow you down as it weighs each load while dispensing (still worth it though and faster than a balance scale)

Also if you're looking for tips - if you're shooting 9mm use a 147gr bullet if you can or at least anything heavier than 115gr, the recoil will be more "back and towards you" rather than upwards - x-treme bullets are pretty great and one of the more inexpensive options but if you can find pulled bullets (not necessarily ideal but good enough for practice at least) they will be even cheaper - ammoseek has parameters you can set for reloading supplies. You'll also need a hand priming tool (wait for a sale, it does come down in price) - or a table top version, and a press of some kind (don't be afraid to look for used to save money, I'm rocking an RCBS thats older than I am but works great and am currently doing 4000 556 loads through it. - also consider what kind of brass you're going to be reloading, if its military crimped you're going to need either a primer pocket swagger or a cutter to chamfer the primer pocket. There are also case prep machines that are electric and have these tools as well as others especially if you're going to be doing a lot of rifle rounds. Buy a reloading manual thats encompassing, you can check used bookstores - you can also find load data online but that can be hit or miss.

You'll find you won't save any money but will be able to shoot more for the same amount - more bang for your buck.

u/InformationHorder · 3 pointsr/reloading

Opinions will vary wildly, but if you're going to start and really aren't sure if you'll stick with it, get a quality single stage press. Scour Craigslist and keep an eye out for deals on Amazon. If you don't stick with it a quality single stage will be easiest to get most of your money back on. If you like it, a quality single stage will always come in handy when you make special pet loads for accuracy, even if you upgrade to a progressive some day.

If you're fairly certain you're going to stick with it, and plan to load for bulk, a turret/progressive press hybrid like the Lee Classic Turret press where you can take the indexing rod out and use it as a single stage if need be might be a good middle of the road choice. Opinions on progressive presses vary and usually generate a lot of discussion, but for your current situation it's a great way to check off a lot of boxes, and it runs only slightly more than Lee's single stage.

As far as cheapest route without buying crap, not everything that's cheap is crap, but there are a few plces where not skimping gets you way more value. Because of this, you are much better off getting stuff separately to get better value. Buy the dies from whoever you want, .223 and 5.56 are the same set, and quality level is up to you. For most plinking purposes Lee is just fine, but if you're loading for a bolt action the Hornady or Redding dies can get you more accuracy for a lot more (relatively speaking) money. Then buy a good digital scale, a good chamfer and deburring tool (not that shitty Lee abomination. Seriously, fuck that thing. Your hands will thank you), a cutter (plus associated gauge and shell holder for a drill), a powder funnel, a puller for when you dick it up, and a nice set of calipers and you're off to a solid start for under $350.

u/dorkra · 3 pointsr/reloading

If you want the cheapest way to do it: Lyman case prep. You can put the individual tools into some sort of connecting nut and put it into a handdrill. Also includes tools for chamfer and deburring. Not the most efficient or consistent, and not fun for a large amount of brass. But cheap, and easy to use.

Removing the crimp and priming aren't really supposed to be done in the same step. I prefer to do my rifle priming off press, so I got something like this: Lee ergo. Each manufacturer has their own priming tool, just remember for the lee ones, you need to buy holders for various calibers. And no, you can't use the press case holder for the primer (cue video of me cursing before reading directions).

u/wiccabilly · 3 pointsr/Firearms

I split the difference and bought complete upper and lower for my first "build." Spike's Tactical complete lower and BCM KMR Alpha 15 complete upper. Added the BCM bolt carrier group, a sexy, red Strike Industries charging handle, and MBUS sights and viola! My first AR. I added an Aimpoint PRO and a Strike Industries sexy red foregrip a few days later. Then a J-comp... Oh, and a few PMAGs... They say an artist never really finishes a work, only abandons it...

But seriously, buy a completed upper and lower and you'll have a very easy time your first time. The upper and lower attach with literally 2 pins. Insanely easy. Once you've put one together that way and held it in your hand and got a feel for it, then you'll start thinking about how you want to change the trigger or what kind of stock you'd like better and then those tasks won't seem as intimidating.

Please note: Those links above are the result of quick Google searches to show the products I'm referring to. They are NOT good prices at least compared to what I spent. I just wanted to make it easier to see what I was referring to but didn't want to go bargain hunting all over again.

Wore that mask for 2 games before relegating it to loaner status. OneTigris-style masks are more way more compatible with goggles and allow a cheekweld. Those shooting glasses look like they would be better than goggles, but if they're anything like the pair I used they'll fog like crazy. Your eye-pro not being the best place to save money, I reccommend something ANSI Z87-rated with good ventilation slots around the edges. ESS goggles are a traditional standby for this. I'd reccomend this Aimpoint T1 clone instead of the one you show, as it's more durable, lower profile, can co-witness with M4 iron sights with the right mount, and is less likely to catch BBs. What are you going to carry your magazines in?

u/ALargeAndMovingTorb · 3 pointsr/airsoft

OK so it came in on Thursday but I just had a chance to try it out today.

I'd say it's definitely worth the money, but it isn't one of those things where you're getting a $250+ gun for $120.

The FPS is obviously really high on this thing. With just a little hop up added it shoots Elite Force bio .25s a really long way with no drop. However, accuracy is not fantastic. I set up a target at 35' and I could get 4" groupings consistently, but not 2" groupings. For comparison I can get 2" groups with my KWA SR7 and my Classic Army EC1 nearly every time at that range. Of course, this is straight out of the box, so it may improve over time. As it is it's not terrible, just not insanely great.

For what it's worth, this is the loudest Airsoft gun I have ever used. You can't hear any motor whine or spring noise, just a loud BAM for every shot.

Build quality is excellent. It's really hefty, nothing rattles, and it just feels incredibly solid. The rail on top is metal, and it holds optics with no wobble. I got a little $25 Amazon red-dot for it and it works fine.

Magazine capacity is small, the midcap it comes with and the extra one I got on Evike both hold 68 rounds (on paper, I think in reality you get ~50 rounds before it becomes too difficult for a speedloader to insert BBs).

I think the downfall with this thing is that it's not a super accurate gun for field play, but its FPS is much too high for CQB. I think with a spring replacement to take it down to 350fps it would be a fantastic CQB gun.

The best/cheapest red dot for an AR is probably the Bushnell trs-25, I got mine for $52 on sale. That said the Fieldsport is nearly identical and only $20 on Amazon (check out the enthusiastic YouTube reviews). On a high riser ($10) either one will absolute co-witness with iron sights, which you don't have but it also means the scopes high enough for a decent cheek weld.

I prefer a larger viewport though so my favorite is this 32mm one

This is all you need.

Works more multiple calibers as well.

Handguards are mostly personal preference. What are you mostly using your AR for?

u/MobiusTrobius · 2 pointsr/guns

Fuck the rod-based cleaning kits. They break easily and take up too much space. Get one of these, they're outstanding.

u/dungeonsandderp · 2 pointsr/chemhelp

Two suggestions: apply cat crap to your goggles so they don't fog up, or get some non-splash goggles (you don't honestly need splash protection for most lab work) like these ones I wear in lab.

u/doomrabbit · 2 pointsr/CCW

I use Cat Crap. REAL NAME, PLEASE DON"T AUTO DOWNVOTE! I couldn't think up a troll that good. Use on my glasses to prevent fogging in fall months. Effective for about a week if I don't wipe it off too strenuously.

Bought it originally when I was dirt poor and scratched a glasses lens pretty deep, pavement fall. Visible groove. Didn't remove it, but did make it a lot more acceptable. Also cleared up all the low level scratches I had.

Motorbike rider friend says they use it on helmets for sweaty fog and branch scratches.

u/dglb99 · 2 pointsr/airsoft

A good defogging agent is catcrap. It's for skiing but I use it for airsoft. I use the paste, can't say anything about their new spray.

u/hewasajumperboy · 2 pointsr/cycling

My first recommendation is to get contacts and only wear them on days when you cycle or do other sports that are eyewear restrictive.

Before getting contacts, this was a HUGE issue for me, luckily some products help immensely. I used to have a pair of glasses with perscription inserts which I treated with a product called Cat Crap. It is a wax based treatment for your glasses that makes them hydrophobic.

Today, I use contacts and I have a rain pair of sunglasses treated with the stuff above. Water rolls off them kind of like a car windshield treated with RainX.

As far as contacts go, I concur with u/w0ss4g3 try out multiple brands of contacts. I settled on biofinity, the ones you CAN wear for a month but I take them out every day and clean them with hydrogen peroxide solution. I had to try 5 different brands before I found a lens that worked with my eye shape and use.

u/AngryPandaEcnal · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

Don't use Windex or Rain-X, as both could damage your visor (YMMV). Instead what I've used is either diver's mask anti fog (you can find it at any sports store or online) or better yet Cat Crap. I found with the diver's anti fog I had to reapply every 2 days, while with the Cat Crap I could reapply every 3-4. Be careful when applying, as it takes a bit of practice to really get just the right amount and buff it to a shine.

You might also need a new visor if you've used Windex or Rain-X; some visors just react badly to the chemicals (for whatever reason). On the outside try Turtle Wax, inside use Cat Crap, cross your fingers and pray. If all else fails get a breath box; they are pretty cheap depending on your helmet.

Edit: On Pinlocks, I checked a few out and (This is just my opinion, YMMV) felt that they distorted around the edges too much.

u/Bluesy21 · 2 pointsr/Fitness

I typically get anti glare coatings on my lenses but I've never heard of anti fog for regular glasses. I'm also in the camp that pretty much always wears contacts to the gym and regret it any time I don't.

If you want to keep the glasses, you could look into applying your own anti fog coating. A runner friend uses some stuff called "cat crap" that he said works pretty well except in super cold temps. No, I'm not joking on the name of the stuff - Amazon link for cat crap.

Parts list:

Blemished PSA Lower

PSA Midlength Premium MOE Rifle Kit

This is how the rifle came, basically don't feel like I did a whole lot installation wise besides putting the LPK in the lower receiver and then assembled then attached the rifle kit. However, I did swap out some parts namely the MOE buttstock, and the handguards. In favor of:

Spikes MidLength Black Tapered Handguards

Spikes M4 Buttstock

The Magpul handguards that came with it were solid, but the buttstock wasn't. I honestly suspect they gave me a commercial buttstock on a Milspec tube because there was so much wobble. I put this Spikes M4 on the rifle and there's been no problem, a little wobble but definitely not like it was before.

I use receiver blocks purchased from amazon... they work just fine. In the past couple of weeks I've acquired many tools I'd consider essential to the amateur AR builder. Here's what I got so far:

u/crab-bait · 2 pointsr/reloading

•Jennings JSVG-20 Compact Digital Jewelry Scale.

If you can, save for an RCBS chargemaster

•RCBS Uniflow Powder Measure

Again - get a chargemaster

•Reloading Manual is this manual relevant to reloading for M1 Garand?

Your link doesn't take me anywhere for the manual - I like Nosler and Hornady manuals. I do not like the Barnes manual. I do like the Barnes bullets which is the only reason I have the manual

•RCBS 90200 Hand Priming Tool

I prefer Lyman's hand priming too. I like Lee's better than RCBS's but the Lyman works best for me

•RCBS Fold-Up Hex Key Set do I really need this?

You will need an allen wrench set but you can get one at an auto parts store or hardware store. I like the ones that have the ball end to allow you to use at an angle

•RCBS Universal Case Loading Block

Get two

•RCBS Case Lube Kit, lube, pad & brushes

I like Hornady Unique case lube in the tub but it's all I've ever used. It doesn't take much and one tub lasts forever.

•RCBS Powder Funnel, .22-.50 Caliber

Yes - get this

•[Lyman Case Prep Multi Tool](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004MCMCYE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_h71FAbFPYHG1N

I don't care for this tool. Lyman makes individual tools called primer pocket uniformer (used after every firing) and flash hole cleaner (only needs to be used once)

•RCBS .30-06 Springfield SB T/C Die Set

Yup - Die set box tells you which shell holder you need - I like this

•RCBS 9203 #3 Shell Holder got this right?

Yup

•EAGems Digital Caliper, in SAE/Metric, 6 inch/150mm. Again, would like digital, opinions on accuracy?

Whatever caliper you can find at a reasonable price - digital is much quicker for me to read

•RCBS 9440 Bullet Puller without Collet

I have a cheap one from Cabelas that came with three different collets

•[RCBS 30/7.35 Bullet Puller Collet] - see above

•Frankford Arsenal Quick-n-EZ Case Tumbler

I have a friend that bought three different ones as they all shook themselves apart - I bought a Dillon with a lifetime warranty

•Frankford Arsenal Quick-n-EZ Case Tumbler
•Frankford Arsenal 887335 Arsenal Brass Polish. 8 Oz. - I've had good luck with fiberglass boat polish poured right in to the walnut shell media

Good luck and have fun

I use one of these because The individual bits will all fit on my power drill. Makes removing the crimp or bur from trimming simple and quick.

I just started to and you need to chamfer and deburring tool.

This one is the best IMO http://www.amazon.com/Lyman-Case-Prep-Multi-Tool/dp/B004MCMCYE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422086949&sr=8-2&keywords=lyman+case+prep&pebp=1422086951922&peasin=B004MCMCYE

If you are reloading 556 brass with a crimp around the primer you may also want this tool that also fits into the above layman tool. http://www.amazon.com/RCBS-Trim-Military-Crimp-Remover-SM/dp/B0063IDE6A/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1422087101&sr=1-1&keywords=rcbs+crimp+remover&pebp=1422087104120&peasin=B0063IDE6A

You can get the crimp off with a razor or the first tool but its easy to put this in the drill chuck and crank them out by the numbers.

u/rm-minus-r · 2 pointsr/reloading

Chamfer the inside of the case opening and your bullets will sit in the case without any issue. You can use something like this tool. Takes just a second or two to do it.

I like mechanical, too. But took a chance and picked up the Barska Quick Access biometric a year ago and put in the upstairs closet. It's really just a biometric "safety cabinet" mounted to studs, but overall I'm satisfied with the purchase. I do recommend scanning multiple fingers, in case something causes interference with the scan (e.g. callus). It's been overall dependable and perhaps worth checking out, anyway.

But a prepared burglar w/ the right tools could open or walk out w/ it, given few minutes to spare.

u/Enchelion · 2 pointsr/SeaWA

Eh, depending on the case you take shooting, whatever. I still don't really buy that people can't find the space for a lockbox (minimum under the law) or a safe.

Here's a rifle safe for $270, 9"x8"x42". Even an apodment can find space in a corner for that thing.

Edit: also these are minimum requirements. Nothing says you can't also use a trigger lock.

I do like the idea of a x4 scope, but would want a smaller package than 14in long (assuming I read the dimension correctly).

u/kigoloeg · 2 pointsr/ar15

Ok I get that some people like to spend $ on top quality stuff an Aimpoint Pro is pricy... considering the Sport M&P goes for $750-$800 range the damn sight is half the price!! If you are honestly gonna use the rifle to just go to the range and practice or something other than non warfare activities consider a sight more cost efficient... Don't sleep on something like a Sightmark I have it on my M&P 15 OR and its legit! Yes I'll eventually get an EOtech when I have the funds but something expensive as fuck just to start off with if silly IMO... if you want a picture on how my Sightmak looks on my rifle PM me.

If you bought the optic/laser and offset sights from Amazon, you can probably still return them and I would advise you to do so. Especially if you spent $90 on it as I see it currently listed.

You can get a cheap red dot and riser from Amazon to help you test the waters (~$30).

https://www.amazon.com/Field-Sport-Green-Micro-Sight/dp/B00D4AYBR6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1496439986&sr=8-2&keywords=field+sport+red+dot

That said, your build is really centered more around distance shooting with that 18" barrel. If you're wanting to move into magnified optics, expect to spend a minimum of $150 on a scope and mount.

I know that all sounds kind of dickish, but half the people here have done exactly what you have in some capacity (myself included). Learn from their mistakes. If you want some magnified optics, I'd be happy to offer some suggestions.

Like this. It's not bolted down, just connected via the cable to the bar under the seat. And the box is locked with a key.

u/PleaseStopCalling · 2 pointsr/guns

Signs don't carry the force of the law in WA, you can do whatever until you're asked to leave. If concealed is concealed, you're highly unlikely to run into too much trouble unless you go into any off the off-limits places. Like you mentioned, bars are one of those places.

If I have to leave a gun in the car, I usually keep the gun in this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FATWGSU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_kc61xbYCVY1X4 with the cable wrapped around the base of the car seat. This is also good to have around in case you ever fly to a reciprocal state for CCW since it qualifies as a container to store your gun in.

u/skywalkerr69 · 2 pointsr/guns

SnapSafe Lockbox with Key Lock for Handgun Storage of Full Size Pistols https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FATWGSU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_lN-6ybVBA54MA

u/icanbutshouldi · 2 pointsr/CCW

Grab yourself a cheap lockable steel container like this...
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FATWGSU?psc=1

Screw it inside the closet (hallway bathroom etc - away from bedroom for reasons already discussed)... Either above or beside the door on the inside of the closet so the only way to see it is to be literally inside the closet looking for it. Use 2.5"-3" screws as mentioned previously. Done.

u/00chris00 · 2 pointsr/CCW

Invest in a safe even one as simpke as this will keep children friends and family who shouldn't be handling tue gun safe.

u/Gator_Stubby · 2 pointsr/CCW

Your firearm should always be in a holster unless it is being fired or cleaned. Even when you "take it off for the day" it should come off while still inside its holster. Its always a bad idea to handle the firearm more than necessary.

You can get a cheap holster like a Remora for the truck gun which will allow you to both keep the firearm safe and easy to place it on your body if you ever need to.

That said anytime you leave a firearm inside a vehicle for any type of long term storage it should be secured to the actual vehicle. Something as cheap and simple as a Standard car vault that is tethered to the seat goes along way to prevent smash and grabs.

Long story short if you already plan to have a firearm on you at all times the truck gun is not needed.

u/TheKansasComet · 2 pointsr/CCW

Have you considered a Pearce grip for the standard magazine? I think they are a great addition. They don't snag on my clothes or add that much to the profile of the gun. What they do add is a much better grip- which also helps manage recoil.

Well the only similar sight that I know of is the Russian version, and I doubt that it's affordable or even exported to the US. The Russians had their older PSO-1 (4x24 unfortunately) and I think HK made a similar mount back in the day. The Aimpoint RDS is a popular red dot that you can then magnify with a...think its called a pineapple mount?

http://www.amazon.com/Mako-Magnifier-Reflex-Sights-Generation/dp/B001LZV55C you can hook this one up to a flipsight and pretend you're in call if duty.
Aimpoint makes the same thing but demands a much higher price I'm sure.

http://www.amazon.com/EoTech-G33-STS-BLK-G33-Magnifier-Switch/dp/B008CXKX7M you can buy the real thing and OH BOY ITS HALF OFF but of course operator gear comes with a huge price tag.

Trijicon makes a 3x version of the acog for 1k, lmao

http://www.amazon.com/Firefield-3x-Combat-Gun-Sight/dp/B006GOK5BI firefield makes a cost effective sight with only so-so reviews on amazon, google shopping brought up 179 reviews averaging at 4.5 stars. Has a small top rail for diddlies, bonus.

I found some other cost effective sights including a copy of the eotech flipsight but it appears that you get what you pay for in the realm of combat sights. You can buy a pretender that works well at the range or you can buy the milspec stuff. There are plenty of good consumer grade options outside of the military stuff but it's up to you. I personally haven't used any of these but of course its hard to go wrong with EO or Aimpoint. Will update this post with more links, at this point I'm just saving ya google time though.

Heres a Vortex 3x that holds a zero at 100 yards according to the top review, but I'd hope people are going to shoot farther out than that with a magnified scope...
http://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Spitfire-EBR-556B-Reticle-SPR-1303/dp/B00HYRGNLM

And heres the eotech flipup clone:
http://www.amazon.com/Sightmark-3x-Tactical-Magnifier-Slide-Side/dp/B004TDPVBW

If you head to primaryarms.com and click on scopes, there's tons of choices there for 3x or 1-4x all at pretty affordable prices.

Zeiss and Trijicon make rifle scopes that hit 3x but ofc those aren't combat sights and the eye relief is going to be small.

A forum posts mentions that you should keep the scope mount below 12 inches so that it doesn't interfere with charging handle operation, keep that in mind if you didn't know. From the same post, someone uses a primary arms 1-4x scope and is happy with it. Once again but a combat scope though.

That's everything that I could dig up, had nothing better to do so there ya go. Hope that helps ya.

Just get a rare earth gun magnet. Screw that to the bottom of your desk. Odds are it will hold your gun with or without a holster.

u/RandExt · 2 pointsr/guns

That's fair enough. Also, I'm probably thinking more of the magnetic storage mounts people put under tables and stuff. Something like this.

u/Its_apparent · 2 pointsr/gundeals

Any deals or ideas for magnetic mounts? I saw a Facebook post, once, that showed big magnets you can mount under your dash so your gun could stick to it and be easily accessible. I know that not all states allow this, but I don't care, because I want it for my house. Something I could mount against the side of my dresser or something and have a gun in hand the instant I hear a bump in the night.

I have thought about picking up one of these for the center console in my Jeep. Might work for you too.

u/comradequiche · 2 pointsr/airsoft

I’ve really been liking mine. its a little hard to make fast and loose rules about optics. Oddly, $50 replicas of high end optics like Eotechs are garbage, while $16 replicas of generic red dots work like a charm.

So far, between real and replica the best bang for my buck was one of these cheap babies

As much as I love a tube style red dot, having the whole side area open (in my opinion) makes the whole sight feel less likes it blocking your line of sight, and feels more like you are peering out a window vs down a toilet paper roll. To each his own though!

When it comes to zoom optics, I’ve used 3-9x scopes and found both are a little over powered for airsoft unless you plan on just sniping. If you are using an M4 I’m assuming you will want to perform multiple functions, and I found bringing up the scope & quickly getting a good sight picture was not worth the effort. You simply won’t be shooting that far.

If you're worried, you can get something like this : https://www.amazon.com/Otis-Tactical-Cleaning-System-Brushes/dp/B0000C52A5

I have one that I can clean every rifle and pistol I own. They easily attach to a strap or molle web platform. As others have pointed out, unless you're in the mud or water (or own a kimber or something that rusts super easy) you shouldn't need to clean, but it's nice to have the ability.

I like to use the Otis pull through cleaning kit. I normally use hoppes 9 after a range visit and depending on how much I shoot a firearm I occasionally soak it in Wipe out

I pretty much never use a brush any more with this cleaning method, it's easier and quicker I find than scrubbing with a rod.

I use this kit from Otis for cleaning the bore: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000C52A5/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It uses a flexible cable that you can use to pull brushes and patches through the bore, only from chamber to crown. The cable is plastic coated and should do no damage.

It takes me a lot of work to get clean patches unless I first use a larger brush to clean the chamber before cleaning the bore. To clean the chamber, I use the .38 brush from the Otis kit attached to the Pro-Shot Flexible Chamber Cleaning Tool, https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B008P8F13U/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

With this tool, you can work the cleaner-soaked brush into the chamber while rotating a few turns. This really speeds things up, and I do not need to worry about stuck cases from a dirty chamber.

Here is a video from Ruger on cleaning the Mini 14, so you can see the technique they recommend: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ_XSF47s9s

(They make no mention of using a chamber brush.)

Elevation is for range adjustment. You might have learned a different word for it, but it's the same thing. I think it's just a matter of preference. (Don't worry about the "offer expires tomorrow" thing. PSA has sales all the time)

http://palmettostatearmory.com/ptac-16-m4-1-7-upper-with-bolt-carrier-group-and-charging-handle.html

The most important thing about building a basic AR-15 is to make sure all of its parts are at least milspec and the rifle has a 5.56 chamber. That will usually solve any reliability problems. Once you start to get better at shooting, you can start upgrading your rifle with better triggers(geissele), matching upper/lower sets, BCM/NOVESKE/LWRC/VLTOR part/complete rifles.

Once you master shooting with iron sights, you can start using red dot/scopes.

I sold the Magpul rear I had and installed the MaTech BUIS if I ever need to shoot that far. Not even having to remove my Eotech EXPS3. Being able to shoot irons and co-witness without removing Eotech was important to me in buying it. Before anyone asks even with 600m setting the Eotech somehow still puts the dot right on top of the front post when looking through the BUIS. Far smaller dot than what the front sight would cover at 600M. No wonder why the combo is purchased by the Military.

u/cosmos7 · 1 pointr/reloading

That's cool and all, but for the same money you could buy a Lee Hand Press and a universal decapping die, and have a more useful tool.

u/WildBTK · 1 pointr/reloading

Hello,

For plinking loads, which I assume is your main purpose for reloading, cleaning primer pockets is not essential.

I recommend you do not run dirty brass through your sizing die as the dirt buildup may damage the swaging surface (made of carbide in most straight-walled sizers today, including Lee dies). This could also leave scratches on your brass during the sizing process. Therefore, do not go with option #3.

This all boils down to how much time you want to spend on each step and what you want at the end of the process. Depending on how accurately you want to track your brass usage and what you're starting with (new or used brass), you could do a deprime and primer pocket cleaning every, say, 5th reload.

As for my ultimate recommendation: either option #1 or #4, with #1 being preferred for plinking ammo.

Edit:
You may want to invest in a Lee universal decapping die. Link Very handy for general decapping and the pin design is friction-based, so there's less of a chance of the pin tip being snapped off or broken if you get a funky piece of brass in there.

u/BrianDFS · 1 pointr/ar15

Or, just by a dedicated Lee decapping die for a whopping $12.99?

u/XSlevinn · 1 pointr/reloading

Loadmaster user here. You will need to trim brass every so often, depending on the cartridge. I have been checking my .223 every time but that's mostly because I don't think I have even done a second loading on my brass because I find so much range brass. You are supposed to trim after resizing, since resizing can extend the length. You'll have to trim off of the press unless you can get one of those fancy trimmer dies.

Here are my steps:

  1. I clean my brass first to help keep my dies clean. I use stainless tumbling media

  2. deprime/size all of my cases

  3. Trim, chamfer, debur, ream primer pocket. Right now I use the Lyman EZ trimmer, but I will be getting a Giraud Tri-way Trimmer in the near future. It trims, chamfers, and deburs in one swoop.

  4. Run my brass through the press without resizing and decapping since I did that in step 2. So step 4 will just prime, drop powder, seat, and crimp.

I'd look at a Lee decapping die. I just got one and started using it, and it's really nice. It doesn't do any sizing. It just removes spent primers. Since it doesn't size, my brass doesn't need to be clean so I run dirty brass through it to decap so I can get the primer pockets a little cleaner (never noticed a difference when they were dirty, though)

So what I have been doing lately is running my brass through the decapper first, then I clean, then I size, trim, then run it through the press for the rest of reloading.

It adds a few more steps since I'm not sizing and decapping at the same time, but at least this way I can just decap real quick and not have to switch sizing dies or worry about my dies getting dirty or messed up from dirty brass.
u/luckyhunterdude · 1 pointr/DIY

This is a decapping die for reloading. you don't need to buy this, but see the pin at the bottom? you need something to push the primer out. if you have a drill press you could just use a small drill bit. or a small screw driver from one of those cheap eyeglass repair kits.

once the primer is out you can use the existing flash hole and primer pocket to center your drill and drill out the brass to whatever size you want.

u/nootay · 1 pointr/reloading

also, are you planning on tumbling your brass? I also deprime before i tumble using a decapping die. Definitely not a requirement though.

u/Scott_Sanchez · 1 pointr/Shotguns

Good advice so far. If it's lightly oiled in a climate controlled environment you shouldn't have much trouble keeping rust away.

And to add to the security point, you should seriously consider locking the gun up. Remember crooks love guns, and I would be sick to my stomach if one managed to get a hold of mine. You don't need to invest in a 2 ton safe for one shotgun, but a cheap steel cabinet like this one, bolted to the wall/floor, should at least deter a smash and grabber.

http://www.amazon.com/Stack-On-GCB-8RTA-Security-Assemble-Storage/dp/B004EYTD4W/ref=sr_1_7?s=hunting-fishing&ie=UTF8&qid=1394899032&sr=1-7&keywords=corner+gun+safe

u/LiveStalk · 1 pointr/guns

Well, you can get a locker fairly cheap as well as desiccant to keep things dry.

u/000Destruct0 · 1 pointr/guns

Depends on how secure you need/want it to be. Stack on makes what is laughingly called an 8-gun cabinet that can comfortably fit 4 long guns. It is approx. 4 feet tall and pretty thick gauge steel. The drawback being the shelf barely fits a few mags so you'd have to get those over the door hanging handgun compartments.

u/justarandomshooter · 1 pointr/reloading

It can be a pain, but it doesn't have to be. If you get this little tool or something similar it can really expedite things.

I take the small primer pocket reamer, chuck it into a hand drill and proceed to ream out 50 cases in less than five minutes.

u/Draskuul · 1 pointr/reloading

It won't include a case gauge, really a complete round gauge. You should own one for every caliber you reload. Example: https://www.amazon.com/Lyman-Reloading-Length-Headspace-Gauge/dp/B001RI7A66/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479962029&sr=8-1&keywords=lyman+223+gauge

Wilson and Dillon also make cartridge gauges. You can use them to confirm your cases are within spec (both shape/shoulder and length) and check loaded rounds. Always gauge at least your first few rounds each session and randomly pick a few as you go.

Note that for the Lee kit to trim brass you need Quick Trim Dies. Example: https://www.amazon.com/Lee-Precision-223-Remington-Quick/dp/B00NEQW1T0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479962154&sr=8-1&keywords=lee+223+trim+die

The first time I got the same kit I screwed up and bought what I thought was the necessary components for trimming. It turns out it was a shell holder and spindle piece for a different type of trimmer.

You should really get a deburr/chamfer tool for brass. The thing that comes with the Lee kit is completely worthless. Lyman makes a good one: https://www.amazon.com/Lyman-Case-Prep-Multi-Tool/dp/B004MCMCYE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479962275&sr=8-1&keywords=lyman+case+prep+tool

Personally I hate balance scales. This is a good electronic replacement. You'll want to use the powder pan that comes with the Lee scale on it or buy another (large!) pan. https://www.amazon.com/Smart-Weigh-GEM20-Precision-Milligram/dp/B00ESHDGOI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1479962410&sr=8-2&keywords=gemini+scale

Important: Note this scale has a large area for you to rest a pan on. There is another version of this that comes with a little pan. The pan is WAY too small for loading anything past 15 grains or so of most powders. The 'contact area' for the scale is also tiny, so to use another pan you have to stack it. The one I linked has a large contact surface you can put a good-sized scale on.

u/bdsmchs · 1 pointr/reloading

u/Spear99 · 1 pointr/martialarts

So here's why that argument is silly. First of all, its an AR15, not an M4. Second of all, and most importantly, an AR15 can fill multiple different roles.

Let's say I hunt small game rabbits, snakes, foxes, and dangerous animals for livestock like coyotes, and wolves, and I also hunt larger game like deer or elk.

I could buy a varmint gun that only fires .22LR, another intermediate gun that fires .223 for the wolves and coyotes, and another larger rifle that fires an elk caliber like 30-06.

So that would come out to:

  • Ruger 10/22 - 200$
  • Savage Axis .223 - 313$
  • Savage Axis 30-06 - 392$

and since I'm a responsible gun owner, I now need a gun safe for 3 rifles so lets go with

  • This safe - 245$

So that comes out to 1150$, and I now need to take care of, clean, and potentially repair 3 different rifles. Well how about an AR15 instead?

  • AR15 lower - 270$
  • .22LR AR15 upper - 325$
  • .223 AR15 upper - 375$
  • 6.8 Remington SPC AR15 upper (also elk caliber) - lets take my friend's final price, 450$

And we need to store these again, but a lower and 3 uppers takes up less space than 3 rifles so lets get this pelican case

  • Case - 139$ and a 10$ lock.

So that comes out to 1419$, but I only need to know how to take care of, clean and repair 1 type of rifle, an AR15. So I've traded a slight increase in cost for greater convenience.

https://www.amazon.com/SnapSafe-Lockbox-Handgun-Storage-Pistols/dp/B00FATWGSU/ref=sr_1_3?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1487372337&sr=1-3&keywords=tsa+gun+case

Edit: To expound, I take the magazine out of the pistol and place it inside the safe with the firearm. Ammunition is kept in the manufacturer's case inside the suitcase, not the safe.

u/rdxj · 1 pointr/CCW

A secure safe bolted underneath your seat is the best option.
I opted for one of these and just secured it under my seat with a bike chain and padlock. That way it's easily accessible to store my firearm in it and lock it and slip it back under the seat, all before even opening my car door.
And then obviously lock your doors. So if you go this route, you sorta have three lines of defense: The car doors, the box secured to the vehicle and the lock on the box itself.
Oh, and also, don't advertise anything on your car. No 2A stickers, no Plock Gerfection--anything. And you'll be fine.

Edit: Actually, if you put some gun control/equality/Bernie Sanders stickers on your car, you probably won't have anything to worry about. Just toss it in the glove box. 😂

u/theamazingronathon · 1 pointr/guns

I'm going to bolt one of these under my seat. Slide it out to access it, tuck it back under to keep it out of sight, and the tether prevents people from walking off with it. Someone else shared a similar option that was MUCH more expensive, but there are options like these in the $30-50 range in most sporting good stores.

I compared the Shield with the XDs and went with the Shield.

Shield is very thin.

I felt the Shield was much smoother to shoot. XDs had a "snap" to it that the Shield doesn't.

Since I've had the Sheild I have put the rubber Talon grips. What an improvement, and as far as I know, you can't put one on the XDs. However, the XDs does have a "grippier" grip over the Shield. But the Shield with the Talon grips is better than the standard XDs grips.

I also put the pinky extension on the 7 round mag I carry, and the +2 Hyve Mag extension on my 8 round mag.

I like the stock trigger and see no reason to modify it. It's safe and effective.

Next accessory will be Tricon sights.

With all of this, the Shield is hands down the best compact I have shot. Like everybody says, shoot a couple different pistols, and find the one that works best for you.

u/Spovik · 1 pointr/CCW

As was mentioned check out the talon grips. Also, if you're using the 7 round magazine, try adding a Pearce Grips mag extension or switching to the 8 round magazine.

If the height is OK but you want something a bit thicker, consider making a switch to a Glock 26.

u/Dr_Dvo · 1 pointr/EDC

I carry a Shield 9 too I don't know how big your hands are but check this grip extension out, it really helps with 7 round magazines.

u/bit_bucket · 1 pointr/Firearms

I have this one on my shield. It works fine and is much nicer to shoot over the flush floorplate. At only $8 what's to loose?

u/Luckyfncharms · 1 pointr/weekendgunnit

I'm really happy with mine. I picked it up last week. Already put Truglo TFO sights on it and this for the small mag.

u/PineyMcKnuckle · 1 pointr/ar15

this does look pretty sick I may need to acquire this soon - I like that its 3x and that even if the battery goes down you can see the etched reticle

guess my only concern is that BUIS would not work since it is a magnified optic?

Burris AR332. It's a prism red dot almost identical to the Vortex Spitfire Prism for a fraction of the price. That being said, I do like the reticle on the Vortex better but for the price I'd go Burris all day.

For my carbine build I have the Vortex Optics SPR-1303, a 3x sight that's awesome. Runs about $300. https://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Optics-SPR-1303-Spitfire-EBR-556B/dp/B00HYRGNLM/ref=cm_rdp_product

For my rifle build I have the Nikon P-223 for $165. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006YVT0R8/ref=od_aui_detailpages01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have shot this Vortex Spitfire at the range on a Sig mcx. A really good priced scope, accurate with great eye relief.

u/Flaccidacid987 · 1 pointr/AR10

Based on everything you said here, this covers most of it. An easy reticle for ranging and calculating drop. low enough power for close shooting and you can still mount a RMR on top. I had one on my SBR and just got rid of it for a no magnification because the eye relief isn't enough on my SBR.

I will be getting one for my AR10.

She just doesn't want to see it? No problem:

https://www.amazon.com/Tac-Mag-Gun-Magnet-25-Rating/dp/B00LR454YU

u/Shmolarski · 1 pointr/ar15

Magnet x 3

I originally bought 2 but there isn't enough ferrous material in the buffer tube to hold the weight without 2 magnets, so needed 3(plus one for the barrel.)

u/leviwhite9 · 1 pointr/CCW

I have the Tac-Mag that OP linked to.

I don't currently use it so right now my magnet isn't attached to anything. With my heaviest fully loaded handgun, VP9, I can't shake the gun loose while holding the magnet. I almost can't pull the magnet straight off the gun, you almost have to rock it to the side to get it to come free.

I don't see this one being a problem to draw from if the magnet was mounted to something sturdy nor can I imagine a scenario outside of a tornado making the gun come off the magnet when you didn't want it to.

u/honeybee_empire · 1 pointr/guns

If you are interested in something similar, but with a lower profile. I am pretty happy with my purchase of this magnet thingy.

I actually mounted it to the right of my right knee on the front of the dash. You would never notice it empty, and it holds way more securely than you would expect. No issues in daily driving or slamming on the breaks, but I wouldn't trust it for off-roading or anything.

You just bring the top of your firearm towards it and it will straight up suck it onto it. It's super strong. You could also mount it on the side where your picture has the holster and have it stick to the side of your slide.

u/Siphon1 · 1 pointr/CCW

I'm looking to order this. My dad has one and it works well. It's even better if you put a black cloth or something over you gun to 1) protect the finish and 2) keep it concealed so someone is t seeing it at a ted light or what ever.

Also I'd take any car gun inside at night and also have a lock box in the car for work. #1 way people get guns stolen is out of their vehicle.

u/NGVYT · 1 pointr/preppers

I don't think a FAL is a good gun for much of anything. If you intend on making it your primary though do yourself the favor and run a few hundred rounds through it at the range. Just see how well it holds up and get used to the sights on it by standard just in case.

If all goes well with the shooting test then Id go for the upgrades. I would go with the new stock and probably get a nice RDS on it like the dagger defense DDHB or for longer ranges something like a Trijicon ACOG TA01, however its on the more expensive side of things... For a stock, when I looked its kinda slim pickings but I didn't look too hard but I liked this one a good bit.

u/marknm · 1 pointr/airsoftmarket

Yeah that's Amazon for you, there's always several versions of the same product being sold by different people with the only actual difference being the laser engraved logo. This is the sight that I bought, so that is what I based my price on. If no one is interested after a week or two I will lower the price accordingly.

u/dontthinkjustbid · 1 pointr/airsoft

I would look into this sight. Not one of the brands you hear often suggested but I have heard good things about it and that particular sight. Plus, it's a bit more on the affordable side of sights if you aren't looking to drop loads of cash on something you won't like or won't need.

u/The_Wisconsonite · 1 pointr/ar15

Love the Dagger Defense red dot scope, have it on my .223 SBR and I can shoot relatively easily out to 50yds. Holds zero quite well too!

I have CYA kydex holsters for all of my CCWs now. Love those holsters. They’re good, durable, comfy, and fairly priced... you can get them for any major gun, I have one for my G19 and one for my Shield

> If you look up the CYA holster for the shield you'll see what it looks like.

If you want to remove material to make room for your thumb, remove the material behind the magazine release, and below the slide rail.

> I think the problem is that the force required to pull the gun from the holster is causing me to fumble the thumb grip as it comes up because it comes up so fast

If the tension is so tight that you are fumbling when the holster releases (after pulling extremely hard to effect the release), you need to loose the tension screw.

u/AustinDizzy · 1 pointr/EDC

Yes, it's specifically this CYA holster from Amazon. It's pretty decent, much like /u/kittendestroyer69 mentioned. I only use it to (mainly) appendix carry or kidney carry as it does move just a little and prints worse for me when carrying around 3/4/5 o'clock. I'll likely move to something with a little more natural bend and taper to the body, like a leather or leather/kydex combo or something.

But I do love this holster for slim appendix style carry, I'm a fan of lightweight, minimal, and sleek. Just easily leaves a mark on your skin if you're walking exceptionally long distances or doing any running. Easy to adjust the tightness of the holster as well as the cant angle with an Allen wrench.

I wear athletic shorts 95% of the time. I found a super simple belly band that works perfectly with my s&w shield. Carry it every day under my athletic shorts.

I got the 239SAS to be my EDC in warm weather. Its pretty narrow and compact so it conceals well. It does have some weight to it though since its a metal frame. I carry it in either my Bellyband holster or n82 Professional. I've never carried a 2022 so I can't compare there but I do have a 229 Legion I carry which is definitely wider and heavier.
