I recently had the opportunity to compare this exact model to the LG 34" Ultrawide (3440 x 1440p) 75Hz IPS Curved Freesync Monitor $999 (LG 34UC98-W)

The Samsung monitor is a VA panel. Color calibration was awful out of the box and required manual adjustment.
The LG monitor is an IPS panel. Color calibration was near perfect out of the box.

After calibrating the Samsung display, here is my comparison:

  • The colors aren't quite as good as the LG.
  • The blacks aren't quite as dark as the LG despite advertising QLED tech (feint but even backlight bleed).
  • The whites, no matter the adjustment, we're slightly more warm that the LG.
  • The Samsung has no corner backlight bleeding like the LG.
  • With both monitors sets to 75Hz, the Samsung panel has A LOT less ghosting than the LG does. (tested using ufotest)
  • At 100Hz, it blows the LG out of the water when it comes to ghosting.
  • The height-adjustable stand is better on the Samsung.
  • The tilt mechanism is better on the Samsung.
  • The base is better on the LG (I personally dislike the gigantic circle taking up so much space).
  • The bezels are thinner on the Samsung.
  • The Samsung weighed slightly less.
  • The controls of the jog dial are superior to the buttons system on the LG.

The Samsung proved to be a much better display for dedicated gaming (tested using Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, Grim Dawn, and Albion Online)
The LG proved to be a much better display for content creators reliant on color accuracy above all else, and might game on occasion (tested using Adobe Premiere Pro)

If I were to buy one today, I would buy the Samsung for the VA panel's superb lack of ghosting in comparison to the IPS panel in the LG.

    Hope this helps someone.

$20 off with Google Express makes it $149.99.

Not sure why Best Buy website doesn't say IPS, but everywhere else does (Amazon, AOC web)

u/coolxleopard · 21 pointsr/buildapcsales

I have this. I can say it’s very nice quality for the price. For gaming and movies, it has a sharp picture. I also watch Netflix and movies on my monitor. the colors are great, blacks are very black, and it doesn't seem washed out at all. G-sync works perfectly with my 2070. also runs games perfectly on my Xbox One X with 120hz and VRR Freesync enabled. For me, this is a fantastic monitor for gaming and everyday use. FYI, amazon reviews.

You can check sites like Camelcamelcamel for an idea of price history from Amazon at the very least: https://camelcamelcamel.com/Pixio-Professional-FreeSync-Certified-Compatible/product/B07CNDK2XG?context=search

As configured by you (i7, 3TB HD, 4GB video card), the cost comes to $3099.00. I added in 16GB of memory over the stock 8 since that's pretty much standard for most builds, anymore.

5k Dell Monitor: $1,439.99

Retail i7-4790: $307.00

Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3 Motherboard: $102.95

Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB Kit: $66.99

Corsair Carbide SPEC-01 Mid Tower Case: $48.99

Silverstone Tek 500W 80+ Gold PSU: $79.99

EVGA GeForce GTX 960 4GB Video Card: $229.99

CM Storm Devastator KB/Mouse Combo: $29.99

Total Cost: $2305.89

Video card was a bit of a toughie since the iMac uses a notebook GPU, so I went with something a bit faster, but comparable. This is a complete system with comparable to better specs.

Given the price difference, may as well go with a 980Ti for that extra graphics oomph or tack on some water cooling.

Edit: Woops! Forgot storage and OS!

WD Blue 3TB HD: $98.70

Samsung 850 EVO 120GB (configured as cache drive): $66.99

Windows 10 Home: $119.00

Revised Total: $2590.58. Still cheaper and could still sub out the 960 for a 980Ti and be under cost.

https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VP2780-4K-27-Inch-Monitor-3840x2160/dp/B00SHZSXVI $600 VS 27in

https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-32-Inch-Definition-BL3201PH-3840x2160/dp/B00O1B5M9I - $674 BenQ 32in

https://www.amazon.com/PA328Q-3840x2160-DisplayPort-Ergonomic-Back-lit/dp/B00YWD9ZZM - $900 Asus 32in

You will basically end up with these. The 32in BenQ will work for what you listed. The 32in Asus is $226 more, but is top quality professional. If you want to splurge there is the Acer Predator. If you want a great 27in for the price, then there is the View Sonic.

I would go with 32in because why even go 4k if you aren't using 32in. The Acer and Asus are overkill (predator is for gaming/Asus professional photo editing). So that leaves you with the BenQ, which is perfect for what you want a 4k monitor for.

Sodoge wow 4k such pixel much money.

The new 24inch 1080p IPS hotness is on sale. "Usually ships within 1 to 2 months". Ordering now, but will cancel if the asus 24.5 monitor blows this away. I don't think so because I'm sure the asus tax will be high.

This one from AOC seems pretty good to me.

u/revsvenarcher · 11 pointsr/osx

You installed SMBup which according to this replaces Apple's native NetBIOS and SMB services with Samba. Then you post about how bad network shares work for you in el crapitan. Honestly the Apple docs on setting up file sharing do work. With the caveat of course that you're still depending on the default implementation of services in OS X. Once you've changed how something operates in the OS with the addition of 3rd party software/services it really isn't a fair judgement of the OS if the "it just works" way of accomplishing your goal is now broken. You're blaming Apple and El Crapitan for a problem you created. Grow the fuck up. And after you return your iMac since that's clearly what you want to do, you can pick up one of these for all your 5K needs.

u/Atraeas · 10 pointsr/buildapcsales

Lowest Amazon price is $493 (or $375 from a 3rd party seller). The MSRP is obviously inflated but this seems like a good price regardless. Definitely considering going in on this deal since it has FreeSync and USB-C

> So you say the gsync/freesync equiv are only $200 apart, but can't find any actual monitors at those prices? And you are calling the article shameless?

Same MVA panel, same ultrawide 100hz... Same price but we'll call that a measurement error.
But that's while we're keeping it in limits of ultrawides, once we move from those particular shackles we have a classic 144hz IPS example:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XF270HU-27-inch-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B0173PEX34/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1501281455&sr=1-1&keywords=Acer+XF270HU

$600 MSRP on Freesync vs $800 MSRP on G-Sync. Exactly $200, sales notwithstanding.

> What makes the MX34Q not a gaming monitor?

Lack of 1337 gam1ng aesthetic (see above for reference). I can game just fine on my cheap ass s22e390 and it even has pretty good response times for an IPS panel, it does not become gaming monitor from that however.

u/evlogii · 9 pointsr/buildapc

Let's see.

For $1999 you can buy middle iMac with 27" 5K display.

  • 3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz (i5-6500, according to wiki

  • 8GB 1867MHz DDR3 SDRAM - two 4GB (meh)

  • 1TB Fusion Drive (it's 1Tb HDD + 128Gb SSD for cash)

  • AMD Radeon R9 M390 with 2GB video memory (which is 20% slower than 750Ti)

OR for $1999 you can buy:

    $1099 5K Dell monitor + $900 parts.

You can easily fit i7-6700 (for editing) + RX460 (which is better than M390) or even RX480/GTX1060 into.

You can actually by a 5k monitor for PC

Dell has been selling them since before the iMac had em. Still pricey though. The one I linked is actually about 2 years old now. I am guessing there is a newer model but I haven't bothered to Google for it.

u/dreamer_2142 · 9 pointsr/Monitors

I never owned Mac And I'm not talking here based on experience, I know they use a high-quality panel with flicker free no PWM with high resolution and HiDPI (pixel-double scale, like scaling factor by x2). but since Mac uses a different algorithm to scale and display the picture on the screen they don't get the same problem as windows, windows never do scaling right which breaks the way it displays text and makes everything smaller than it should. not mentioning it can't handle color space as Mac. in short words even if you put that Retina display on windows it will not give the same picture as it used to on Mac.
So back to the question, just look for the same panel as Retina display and find the monitor you want, I made a quick search for Apple iMac with Retina 5k and looks like this one uses LG Panel LM270QQ1-SDA2 and based on tftcentral database, you can find all the monitor that uses the same panel and this one was similar Dell UP2715K which uses LM270QQ1 https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-UP2715K-27-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B00OKSFXZU

here is how to find a similar panel as Apple iMac 27:
Go to http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/panelsearch.htm and search for LM270WQ1 then you will find all the monitors that share the same panel, look at this chart
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/monitor_panel_parts.htm

Like
https://www.amazon.com/Achieva-Shimian-QH2700-IPSMS-Backlight-Resolution/dp/B00D3DA15U/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

After my research looks like Mac uses a custom version of each panel that ends with xxx.SDA so you just have to find the same panel from the above chart with glossy coating which I think mac uses and find the display you want. I couldnt find any popular monitor that share same spec as Mac one have.

The biggest difference is color accuracy and production on IPS panels absolutely eclipse VA panels. If you want something not expensive that looks pretty take a look at this for 1080p and this for 1440p

u/Garmaglag · 5 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I think that's the real killer here, Apple makes really nice displays and this one is big and high res, if you were to buy an equivalent display from someone else it would be well over 1k, this dell one is $1,300 , when you consider that, this is probably on par with any other small form factor prebuilt with similar specs.

EDIT: And that dell is $1,300 used. IDEK what it would cost new.

u/JohnOs1 · 5 pointsr/pcmasterrace

iMac Retina has 5k, as does a Dell monitor. 8k is next. If you can afford it.

u/17thspartan · 5 pointsr/buildapcsales

Well, I was surprised it wasn't already posted on this reddit, so I figured maybe 699 was a normal price and the 200 dollars off was misleading or something.

Anyways, when I was searching, 699 was the lowest I could find without looking at refurbished or used versions of this monitor. CamelCamelCamel has Amazon's lowest price at 760 dollars.

If you find a new one at 650, let me know, cause I'm actively monitor shopping right now.

u/Kaledan · 5 pointsr/buildapc

You linked the wrong model, thats a 4k 60hz model. This is what you meant to link https://www.amazon.com/Asus-MG248Q/dp/B01F9UC20Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1464819071&sr=8-2&keywords=mg248q.

I would buy this from elsewhere since amazon themselves don't sell it and the 3rd partys charge ridiculous prices.

u/newfieboy27 · 5 pointsr/nvidia

u/[deleted] · 5 pointsr/3Dmodeling

Most of the popular software for 3D supports high DPI in some fashion and you will greatly appreciate the extra screen space with Blender, Maya, and Max's cluttered UI. I'd suggest at least something 2K. Having space to keep multiple viewports open, a render preview, UV editor, etc can really help establish a very efficient workspace.

Consider just getting two monitors before going ultrawide. Broadly speaking, it's often cheaper to get two monitors than it is to get an ultrawide in general, and ultrawide provides little practical benefit over a two monitor setup (other than using only one set of cables if that's a concern). Also, if you're someone who might play PC games (and you might if you do gamedev) most games don't properly support ultrawide anyway.

Dell Ultrasharps are amazingly great monitors for working with 3D and other image content. The 2K 27" (U2718Q) are the standard monitors at our studio. They make an ultrawide format of Ultrasharp (measured at 49") at 5120x1440 but these are around $1,400+ USD. And if you're doing the math, you can see that you could get that same res in two U2718Qs for closer to $800+.

u/brsmits · 4 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

either that or he has the wrong one.

u/spicedpumpkins · 4 pointsr/buildapcforme

You would do significantly better going with a 144Hz monitor BUT with either GSync or FreeSync (depending if you go NVidia or AMD).

You will actually not see any dropped frames going this route which I assume is why you are trying to go with the BenQ monitor.

GSync / FreeSync > more Hz in almost every situation.

Something like this will likely outperform the BenQ in day to day , hey I actually notice the difference style gaming.

u/poopspeedstream · 4 pointsr/mac

My current workstation is an LG 27" USB-C 4k monitor hooked up to my macbook. I have one cord to plug in for charging and 4k 60hz video, and the monitor has USB ports on the back for my peripherals. It's perfect.

Plus, the macbook is so small it can hide on the back of the monitor in a 3d printed bracket.

u/aswedishtiger · 4 pointsr/buildapc

Under 350? I've got you covered bro I lucked out hard with this one .

It's an up and coming Korean manufacturer named Pixio. Had mine over a year now and absolutely zero issues. Well there's 1 that apparently they "fixed" but I wouldn't bank on it. Make sure you buy your own Display Port cable as the one that came with it at the time I bought it was defective (and many others claimed their's came with defective ones as well not just me).

Other than that a few other people have been reporting over heating and missing pixels out the box but if you get a fine one it's a fucking 300 dollar 1440p monitor that's crisp as fuck.

Other one I was considering was a $650 ASUS one which was comparable by almost 3x the cost for almost the same exact thing.

u/sherl0k · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

I have the AOC AGON 24'' 1440p 144hz. Freesync, bought originally to pair with my Vega 64. it is certifed gsync compatible as well. I bought a RTX2070 afterwards and yeah, gsync works just fine. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WVN6CWT?psc=1

and that's it. literally nobody else makes high refresh rate monitors at this size/resolution. these are your options.

u/EvrythingISayIsRight · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I literally just bought that monitor yesterday. Gonna test it out when it comes on Tuesday, cant wait! I hope all my games support that fucked up 21:9 resolution.

Trust me, you're better off getting the 2560x1080 over the 3440x1440 if you plan on playing video games at 60FPS, because the latter is such an insanely high resolution you WILL have to tone down the graphics even if you have a monster PC. 4k is even higher, so good luck with that.

60 FPS @ max settings with max AA on a decent resolution > ~30fps at medium settings at a super high resolution.

u/coherent-rambling · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Your monitor is a problem - you've selected a gaming model with a TN panel and very poor color quality. This is a bad choice for graphics work. You're price shopping against a 5k iMac, which has one of the very best displays available anywhere. You either need to price it against another 5K monitor and erase your price advantage, or you need to pick a 4K IPS model with 100% color gamut (probably at least $500) and compare it to the equivalent 4K iMac for a $1,000 savings.

Suddenly, you're going to have a very hard time matching the Apple prices.

Even if you can still match the prices, you really shouldn't do this. You've got three totally separate issues here, any one of which could backfire on you:

  1. Unless you're exclusively full-time IT, you don't want to recommend computer hardware at work. Request for yourself, sure, but not recommend for others. That's because if there's ever an issue, you can get blamed. If there's ever a crash or bug, someone will point the finger and say "This is all /u/impulsenine's fault; it would never have happened on a Mac". Even if they're wrong, there's nothing you can do about it at that point.

  2. Even if you're exclusively full-time IT, you don't want to build custom computers for business applications. This is an extension of my first point, but mostly comes down to hidden costs. Business spending is different from personal spending, because you're looking for a particular return on investment rather than just trying to spend as little as possible. It's going to take you a full day, minimum, to built, install, test, and refine your custom system. That's an extra $175 at the median graphic designer's salary, but you might even need to account for it at your client billable rate, which is likely closer to $100/hr. Suddenly you need to include $800 of extra cost in your build. And the same thing applies every time there's an issue that would have been covered by a warranty on the Apple, but isn't. Hell, if your motherboard or GPU has an issue and needs to be replaced under the component manufacturer's warranty, by the time you RMA the item and wait for shipping, you'll have lost enough productive time to buy a whole iMac. There's an old IT saying, "Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM." Business systems need business warranties, with advance part replacement or next-day on-site techs.

  3. If everyone in the office is using Mac OS, you shouldn't interfere with that, because any little incompatibility or training issues will be your fault. Not "blamed on you" like item #1. Literally your fault. You can use a Windows system in that environment, which is great. I would be perfectly capable of getting work done on a Mac in my office's Windows environment, too. But my ex-boss wasn't, even though he insisted on trying. Just because you can do it doesn't mean it's going to be a smooth transition for anyone else, and you don't really want to push that transition.

Switching to a 10-bit workflow requires both a 10-bit capable GPU like a Quadro and a 10-bit display. The AOC display you've found on pcpartpicker is actually an 8-bit display using something called FRC (frame rate control) to emulate 10-bit output. Source

If You're looking to go 4k (or 5k), 10 bit & IPS for your monitors You also need to pay quite a bit more for it - in which case the iMac doesn't even seem that expensive anymore.

Dell has a 5k IPS 10-bit monitor for $1,539.99

u/Argh_computers · 3 pointsr/HighQualityGifs

>a $1800 iMac is a 5K screen with a shitty laptop strapped to it, when a $1800 PC is a high end gaming PC or a workstation.

[The thing is, that 5k display is about $1,600 by itself]
(http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-UP2715K-27-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B00OKSFXZU) so the internals are pretty much free. Now if you bought the actual display then you'd have to compare the imac to a sub $200 pc where you're you're not going to be able to match its specs or form factor. About the only mac 'not worth it's price' is the mac mini, which you can get much better parts for the price at the trade off of the form factor of the mini, which is tiny in comparison to about any pc you could build.

u/arex333 · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Absolutely. IMO this is way better than a 4k display since having an ultrawide aspect ratio and getting a way wider field of view in games (and also more screen space to work with) is hugely more noticeable than just having everything be a bit sharper. Also it goes to 100hz which is way better than 60 that 4k monitors run at. Keep in mind though, these high end ultrawides are using bleeding edge tech so there can be some quality control issues. Most common with the X34 is backlight bleed in the corners (really only noticeable on a black background) and inability to hold 100hz without flickering. It's been out long enough that as long as your monitor was manufactured recently it shouldn't be an issue. Just keep it in mind in case you have to exchange it. All of the monitors with similar specs have their own QC issues that shouldn't be a good deal as long as you don't get a shit sample.

Other similar monitors are the:

asus pg348q - identical panel, just different casing, stand, and OSD. Basically just choose the cheaper one since they're so similar.

hp omen x35 - it's a bit bigger than the asus and acer, has a steeper curve, and doesn't have the backlight bleed issues, but the panel is VA so the colors aren't as vibrant, and there's issues reported with flickering at 100hz, and image ghosting. I've seen a few people say they preferred the x34 to the omen, but this may depend on which pros and cons you weight more heavily.

AOC Agon AG352UCG - Identical panel to the omen, with all the same pros and cons. This monitor is to the omen what the x34 is to the pg348q. This one seems to be cheaper than all the other 3 (unavailable on amazon for the moment but I saw them on sale a few days ago), so for a budget option it's excellent. It basically makes the omen irrelevant since it doesn't justify the extra cost.

There's also the Acer x34p which is the next generation x34. It has a few nice improvements like a steeper curve, better OSD controls, no more glossy plastic surface, and a native 100hz (rather than an OC 100hz). Hopefully better QC as well. They've delayed it like 4 times and there's still no solid release date, but maybe by the time you've saved up it will be released?

Here is a nice review of the x34 to watch in the mean time. It literally delivers every spec I've been looking for in a monitor. I've seen some pretty nice sales on it, especially on refurb models so just keep your eyes open. Join us at /r/ultrawidemasterrace :) this monitor is a favorite over there so you'll see a lot of people talking about it, and just how great playing games in 21:9 is in general. To add a little more weight to my recommendation, gabe newell and terry crews are both using x34's (terry has 2 of them lol).

Hi again everyone!

I posted yesterday asking for suggestions for next steps for my setup, I thought I'd just ask again to try and get more thoughts here.

With my current build, my gpu (1060 6gb) is being bottlenecked by my cpu (i5-6500) at 1080p 75hz. My options right now are:

Upgrade my cpu i5-6500 -> i7-7700k, despite prices being higher and similar to current gen prices. ($350-500) -- Buying used is an option, /r/hardwareswap was mentioned but so far no luck.

Complete upgrade to current gen intel cpu and new motherboard (???)

Switch over to Ryzen (thinking about the 2600x) with new motherboard ($450-$500)

Also important to note, in the future I plan on adding a monitor, the LG 43" @ 4k 60hz so that I can increase productivity and use split-screen view with my Macbook Pro as well as my pc. This may entail having to upgrade my gpu as well, into a RTX 2070 (EVGA B-Stock has them for cheaper).

Any recommendations or ideas on my next moves here? Again any discussion and thoughts are welcome

u/drysart · 3 pointsr/gaming

It's not really "half off right now". It's been selling at progressively lower prices for a few months now and has never sold on Amazon for it's "full price" of $729.

u/RampantRocky · 2 pointsr/hometheater

Vizio will really be the only one that is still relevant at $1500 for a 58 inch, besides the aforementioned LG monitor, of which they have a 1440p and a 1080p version as well, there's the $1300 34um95 which is 1440p, and the $700 34um65, which is the 1080p version with a couple less inputs.

u/jared__ · 2 pointsr/hardware

Besides the FreeSync integration, I believe the LG 34UM65 ($579) has the same specs.

u/Youre_Killing_Smalls · 2 pointsr/mac

The price of a stand-alone 5k monitor is a little over half of what that machine costs. The lower grade video card, 290x is almost $500. Processor with a mid-range MB can run about $500. 32GB of 1600 ram, cheaper 8GB sticks are about $75 each totaling $300.
So far, we're totaling $3300 without taking into account the hard drive, which are always cheap unless SSD, external peripherals, a good tower and power supply and OS license.

This machine with the current setup is a little over $3700 with everything.

Dat 5k really hikes the price up for any machine, Apple or otherwise.

u/JDMYoshioka · 2 pointsr/Ice_Poseidon

If you play FPS/old games that can make use of the 200Hz then your monitor is probably the best money can buy.

If your not a TriHard at video games, want the best picture quality possible and want to flex your e-peen then go for the 4K monitor. The XB271HK is what people recommend. Only $860 on amazon which is surprisingly cheaper than the Z35 and will actually save you money if you do return it? (Don't know if they charge you for return fees)

u/Twochiins · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Or, you know, somebody could recommend me something :/

I really doubt there's anything good for under $400 like I said in the OP but I can just save up a bit longer.

u/thewalrus34 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

So not an ideal budget breakdown, but I cannot recommend 3440 X 1440 enough: https://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-34UC98-34-Inch-Diagonal/dp/B019O78DPS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1467572459&sr=8-2&keywords=lg+ultrawide

But then you're only left with $270 for your GPU which isn't really worthwhile.

u/mr_bitoiu · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I currently have this and I quite like for work: https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC98-W-34-Inch-UltraWide-Thunderbolt/dp/B019O78DPS. I kind of use it like a two monitor setup with window arrangement. I know for games 34 is probably quite a lot. In terms of desk I have quite a decent size desk, but I assume for gaming the monitor would need to be further back.

Thanks for the deep questions and effort here, much appreciated.

u/bumblebeetuna35 · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

I could be wrong, but I think it's the LG 34UC98-W

u/jaykresge · 2 pointsr/Monitors

My first recommendations are going to be the Dell U3415H (old model) and U3417W (newer model). They're listed as $799 and $879, respectively, on Dell's website right now but are continually offered for much less. They are very similar with the key takeaways being:

u/shadowdude777 · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

I'm in this boat, man. I want curved ultrawide, too. I'm not sure which of these things is the most important to me, because the only curved, ultrawide, 144Hz G/Freesync monitor seems to be the incredibly-problematic Acer Predator.

I could forego 144Hz because G/Freesync are pretty great and get LG's Freesync 144Hz curved offering, but that's $1200...

Not sure what to do. :(

u/egrodo · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Hmm, thanks for those recommendations. Those are definitely beautiful monitors, but I'm not quite sure I'm ready to spend that much on a monitor yet. Gsync doesn't matter much to me as I've never really had any sort of tearing before. I'm thinking of something like this. Do you know any off the top of your head that are in that price range with those sorts of specs? There are plenty but I'm not sure if there are some regarded as the best. Maybe this or this.

Did you have PC and/or Game mode enabled on your TV? That cuts the input lag by 2/3. If it's feel you're looking for, response time isn't going to have a big impact. The only thing it affects is motion blur and your TV has far lower response than any monitor you'll find, see the link to the review I sent, because it's OLED. Any decent monitor should have good enough response rate. 4ms is great.

Displaylag.com rates both TVs and monitors. Click the second link I sent and you'll see filtering options up top. Select 4k under HD Res and then in the Display drop-down you have different types of displays, i.e. TV, Freesync Monitor, G-Sync monitor, etc. All of the 4k monitors they've rated have around 10-11ms input lag which is about 1/2 that of your TV.

One other thing to keep in mind is that the frame rate can affect the feel of the game in a similar fashion to input lag. If you have access to any monitor with input lag in the range you're looking for hook your Xbox/PS4/whatever up to that and see how it feels vs your TV. Try to play a game that's 30fps and one that's 60fps. That way you know how much of what you feel is from the monitor/TV and how much is from the frame rate.

Hope that helps. I'm using one of these for my monitor and I love it. I still have my PCs and consoles hooked to my TVs for when I want some 4k action. Looks like there are some good 4k options available now. These both look pretty good with 10ms input lag. Good luck finding a monitor you like!

edit: Forgot to mention, avoid G-Sync as others have mentioned. It jacks the price up big time and you won't be able to use it unless you're connecting to a PC with an Nvidia card.

edit2: Damn you displaylag and your affiliate links! Replaced those with regular Amazon links.

I've never had to research an ultra-wide, so don't know myself, but it looks like these options that are near the top:

Dell Aleinware 34" 3440x1440p 120 Hz IPS monitor

Acer X34 Predator 34" 3440x1440p 120Hz IPS monitor

AOC Agon AG352UCG 35" 3440x1440p 100Hz VA monitor

Asus ROG PG348Q 34" 3440x1440p 100Hz IPS monitor

All 3 have G-sync, and nearly comparable specs. Some websites have rated the Alienware as the best ultrawide, while others have rated the X34. Problem is, they're pricey as hell on Amazon (pretty much twice the price of 27" 1440p monitors!), and I don't know many other websites that sell them for cheaper. You'll need to do a bit of research if you want to buy them at a good price. Probably check local stores, or contact the company websites directly if you don't have any local stores.

Curved, 34-35 inches, 100HZ, Gsync Ultrawide 3440x1440:

Acer Predator Z35P - $1000

AOC Agon AG352UCG - $900

I think once it's released prices might go down on the others I listed above.

I returned my x34 over this - it heavily affected the edges of the screen and anything above 75hz was distracting as hell. My second monitor is an Asus ROG PG27Q 1440p 144hz panel and that's why I couldn't handle the issues with the x34.

I preordered the AGON because it is native 100hz with no OC required.

First off, great job with the conversion, I'm looking to do the same. If you don't mind sharing I've got a couple questions for you.

What speakers did you end up getting? I'm interested in setting up stereo audio as well, but don't know much about the audio side of things. I ordered the Kinter MA170+, did you get the Kinter MA170? They both looked pretty similar, I only went with the MA170+ because it had slightly better reviews.

Which LCD controller board did you get? I ordered this board, but it looks like it might be shipping from China as the delivery window is basically the entire month of November. I'm thinking of cancelling and going with something else to speed up delivery (maybe one of the boards on ebay as they specify where delivery occurs from).

Last question, why the 3M laminate? Was this in reaction to observed wearing on the control panel? Or was this a precautionary measure to make sure the panel stays in good shape over time?

Thanks, and again, great job, I like the coin/player buttons!

I'm a fan of Dell's monitors. They have pretty good color accuracy. This one has been good to me (and it's well within your budget). 4K, 60hz.

Dell's UltraSharp line of monitors are also good.

Edit: Looks like there is a newer version of the specific model I linked above. Smaller bezels and whatnot.

[$400 - Here's a nice 27" IPS 4k UHD Dell] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073VYVX5S) that's only 60Hz

$450 - And here's a 27" IPS 1440p from Asus which might be the cheapest 27" IPS if you want 144hz and 1440p

u/MostlyBullshitStory · 2 pointsr/premiere

First, don't obsess too much with the thin bezel, it's often a compromise in display brightness and viewing angle.

I'm quite happy with this guy: https://www.amazon.com/DELL-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor-U2718Q/dp/B073VYVX5S

I believe you can adapt a VESA mount but double check.

It's no broadcast monitor, so you'll need one if you're doing serious grading.

u/LuchoAntunez · 2 pointsr/xboxone

I'm looking at this one.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073VYVX5S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apis_1504051048508

It's not HDR, it's some sort of simulation, but it seems it works nice.

u/Grandpa_Shorts · 2 pointsr/Monitors

So I've been doing research for a similar monitor with a similar price range. Bottom line is you're not gonna get a "real" hdr monitor for under 500 right now. Just the psuedo ones. Anyway here are some monitors I've been keeping my eye on.

Dell U2718Q ($460 on us amazon)

BenQ EL2870U ($490)

LG 27UK650-W ($549)

The last one is a little over your budget but it's the one i'm most interested in. wish rtings.com would review it.

I have an HP Omen with an 8700K - 1080ti, and this monitor. So I guess I made the same mistake... but I don't have the same problems as OP... Battlefield V, PUBG etc run fine on ultra, no stuttering. Some cutscenes in Destiny 2 have caused some noticeable stuttering. Maybe that's caused by no G-Sync...

Curious what the difference is between me and OP...

u/SeaNinja22 · 2 pointsr/RocketLeague

Depends on your budget. If youre willing to pay upwards of 700-800 dollars for an ASUS ROG monitor, then those are great. If not, I bought this monitor for about 200 USD and it's pretty good for the price. Although it's a TN panel, its comparable to my IPS monitor (I'm not a content creator so the small difference doesn't affect me)

u/Rawme9 · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Hardware Unboxed did a review of this monitor, and it had a pretty low response time compared to advertised. A better option would be this Viotek (according to their results): https://www.amazon.com/Viotek-GN24CB-Speakers-Bezel-Less-FreeSync/dp/B078P2XN9M/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=viotek+144hz&qid=1574722037&refinements=p_n_size_browse-bin%3A3547806011&rnid=2633086011&s=pc&sr=1-1

For video card I'm thinking around $550 and monitor maybe like $325ish. Like I said I can wait if needed which means if AMD releases a new Navi before Cyberpunk and it's around $600ish, I could save more and swing it. Don't really want to push on the monitor too much but would go up to $350 if it really was that much better.

Kinda been looking at stuff like: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-27-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor-S2719DGF/dp/B00N2L5CXO/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=S2719DGF&qid=1569343954&sr=8-1

Not sure if I want a 32 inch or 27 inch. 27 seems more common but I dunno, 32 would be nice but may be too big for sitting that close, still deciding on that, another reason video card would be first.

I'm thinking about buying this AOC 24G2 monitor, primarily for gaming. I own a Dell U2717D that I purchased for photo editing due to its resolution and color accuracy. Size doesn't really matter much since you can always move the monitor closer to your face if necessary.

If you're doing video or photo editing work, I'd suggest picking up an IPS monitor like this $90 22-inch AOC I2267FW for better color reproduction.

If you'd prefer a larger size monitor, there's also a single 24'' monitor available in your budget range, the $98 Spectre E248.

Hey, The_MonBear,

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Ffhb3b Will provide you with a PC that is compatible with and without your hypothetical 980TI, and will also have an SSD in case the one you use for your Xbox does not have matching connectors or SATA ports (don't know why, but some add-ons are strange and are incompatible with certain setups.) It also provides a setup that is very clean are cable-management friendly, as I have friends who have used this case in similar mid-range builds.

If you want, I included a reliable Flash drive for transferring files and booting a copy of windows off of.

If you need to have a more in-depth guide on your building process that uses near-identical components t this PC, I recommend Joey delgado's Ryzen 5 2600 build ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98ujnl1_hW0)

The 580 and the 980Ti have very similar performance outputs, but depending on your budget and your card type, buy a free sync monitor (AMD GPU but about +$50 per 60/144/240 Hz increase) or G-sync (Nvidia but a ~$200 + every 60/144/240 Hz upgrade)

A 1440p 144Hz monitor would not fit in your budget, as it would make your build $1100+ save it be some very unreliable purchases. If you want any monitors I have a few I'd recommend:

1080p 75Hz: https://www.amazon.com/Sceptre-E248W-19203R-Monitor-Speakers-Metallic/dp/B0773ZY26F/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=1080p+to+hz+monitor&qid=1556595028&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1

1080p 144Hz: https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-Response-Equalizer-Vibrance-Adjustable/dp/B01H5KKQTM/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=1080p+to+hz+monitor&qid=1556595028&s=gateway&sr=8-3

1440p 60Hz: https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-GL2706PQ-Black-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B06XDQ2RRQ/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=1440p+60hz&qid=1556595119&s=gateway&sr=8-1

You can use windows without a product key, you just will have a watermark in the right-hand corner of the screen at all times. if you NEED a product key, I recommend you use a reputable site that someone else or yourself may research, otherwise you just have watermarked windows with fewer customization options.

Hope you find this build guide very helpful!

For monitors, you'll want 1080p (obviously) and something as close to a hundred bucks as you can get, as large as a screen as you can get up to 27 inches.(beyond 27 inches, things start to look bad at 1080p) From personal experience, if you can swing it GET A MONITOR WITH A BLUE LIGHT FILTER. e.g. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0773ZY26F/?tag=thowisguy-20 , you are going to read on this monitor for LONG HOURS and watch a lot of videos, and your eyes WILL get tired. Also put a small light behind the monitor when you are working in darker rooms, as this will serve as something called "Bias Lighting" and prevent eye strain even further. (Note: You are going to have to turn off the blue light filter to look at histology slides, but you shouldn't have to do that ALL the time unless you are going to school for histopathology or something idk.)

Two monitors sounds good, but its expensive , and you already have a macbook, its really a lot easier to get a bigger desk.

I don't know much about keyboards or mice, so I don't feel qualified to say really, maybe others can help you out.

Whatever mouse you end up getting I recommend it be wireless, as the wire can wear out easily ( as well as your patience) with extended sessions (trust me I know)

Also, if you really are going to medical school, I would suggest investing in noise cancelling headphones down the line, they are a GAME changer, and let you study in many more environments than a library.

Good luck kid, hope to see you on the front lines someday.

u/5H4D0W5P3C7R3 · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

I'm putting together a 1080p 144hz build for a friend, why get this over something like the Viotek monitor with the same specs (1080p 144hz VA) for cheaper? My friend wants a smaller monitor (so 27" would be a minus here) and doesn't care for curvature or RGB. The only upsides I can see are 165hz vs 144hz (she'll be using a 1070 so it's doubtful she'd be going over 144 fps anyways) and g-sync (irrelevant since Nvidia GPU's support freesync now anyways). So what's the point? Just for show?

u/NightKev · 1 pointr/PUBATTLEGROUNDS

Since you linked 24" 1080p monitors I'll assume that's what you want. In that case, this TN panel monitor is the one you want for adaptive sync/freesync (and it's cheaper than the non-freesync monitor you linked, even). If you want a VA panel instead of TN for better color (and are willing to sacrifice response times) this one is also an option.

Note that Nvidia GPUs from the 10 series and later now support freesync, so there's no reason to pay the ~$200 gsync module "tax" anymore.

Also, if your PC is good enough to get more than 144 fps you'll want to get RTSS (optionally with MSI Afterburner) and limit the framerate to 135-140 in order to keep freesync active (adaptive sync currently doesn't work if your FPS goes above your monitor's refresh rate).

Edit: Oops, fixed the links.

Is this monitor (https://www.amazon.com/d/Monitors/Viotek-GN24CB-Speakers-Bezel-Less-FreeSync/B078P2XN9M) good for its price, and what are its flaws, and what is a good alternative if so?

u/zakabog · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace
  1. You can check out this AOC 1440p 144Hz display, it's 32" and only around $200. I wouldn't expect to get huge deals on prime day on any specific items that you find in advance though (especially 1440p displays.)

  2. I also have an Acer Predator 1440p 144Hz display (IPS with G-Sync), it's really heavy and I needed to buy this dual monitor stand, otherwise the arm would sag. The only problem is my 24" ViewSonic display is so light that it was really difficult to get the arm to hold it down.
u/Goggi-Bice · 1 pointr/AskPhotography

Bascially any ips panel with a 99% or 100% srgb coverage, preferably calibrated.

You also want atleast 250 nits peak brightness but besides that, there really isnt that much else you can get for that price.

Depending where youre from, this might be a solid option : https://www.amazon.de/AOC-Q3279VWFD8-Reaktionszeit-DisplayPort-2560x1440/dp/B07CG41Y8Z/ref=sr_1_2?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=B0IFOFD9AIKQ&keywords=aoc+monitor+32&qid=1565614026&s=gateway&sprefix=aoc+%2Caps%2C170&sr=8-2

Because its very big and actually 1440p and not only 1080p.

Clupean's build represents the maximum value you can get for the price with all good quality parts. Just add this cheaper 2070 Super: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/NxrYcf/msi-geforce-rtx-2070-super-8-gb-ventus-oc-video-card-rtx-2070-super-ventus-oc

And this VG power supply:
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/K3Jtt6/be-quiet-pure-power-11-cm-600-w-80-gold-certified-semi-modular-atx-power-supply-bn298

To be honest I think you're really going way too hard and fast if this is your first build. You should consider getting a solid 1440p monitor and a more affordable graphics card.

If you really want to go high refresh rate, two things: Just because you have 144hz monitor, doesn't mean you need to get a graphics card that can push 144 frames in every game to enjoy it. You will have a great gaming experience at 80-120fps.

Second thing: You can switch a few settings down from ultra and your game will look the same. Have a check on the videos on Youtube titled something like "are ultra settings worth it" to find a good analysis of what you can change. A guy got his GTX 1060 to perform like a 1070 without having any noticeable impact on how the game looked just by changing the right settings.

Personally I would go for a Large 1440p 75hz monitor like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CG41Y8Z/?tag=pcp0f-21

Your missing out a lot,

your Graphics card could ran 1440p )that's what I have) depending on what games you play, if you play really demanding games it wouldn't ran on max settings but pretty great too.

this is what I have and it's really great: https://www.amazon.com/AOC-Q3279VWFD8-Monitor-Free-Sync-Panel/dp/B07CG41Y8Z?th=1 Warning It is HUGE (32")!!!

the resolutions mean what is the HDMI port capable of, the actual resolution of the TV is 1366x768 (that's a bit over HD so pretty bad)

And the "p" at the end of the resolutions means every frame (most likely 1/60 seconds) is a fully displayed picture

The "i" means that every frame (most likely 1/60 seconds) are refreshed lines of every other pixel = "more" FPS per "same" bandwidth

I would prioritize 144 Hz over 1440p. Most people say that going to 144hz is a greater improvement than going to 1080p. Also, I think for your budget, a 144hz 1080p monitor is much more likely.

Have you considered a VA panel like the Viotek gn27db? Its a good midpoint between TN and IPS, so great for gaming and work.

I am guessing you want freesync. If you are set on a 1440p IPS panel that's not 144hz, then this is your best option.

Perfect for Xbox One X GamingBy Patrick Beard on November 2, 2018Connected PX276h to an Xbox one X to play RDR2 in its full glory. Other than the sound, which is a little anemic, this display hits it out of the park for playing this game at 1440p. Color is great, no lag, text is crisp. see less Pixio has firmware fix for xboxone x issues.

By Mamita on November 29, 2018love this panel.out the box the 1440p 120hz freesync was not working for the xbox one x so I sent a message to pixio and they replied the same day with a firmware update that fixed the 1140p 120hz hdr but still working on a new firmware to fix 1440p 120hz hdr and freesync together.Wow I was surprised to hear from them so soon with a fix and now the monitor does what I wanted it for.One more update and she'll be perfect. Also she feels faster then my benq rl2460ht with better colors and features the benq doesn't have.Recommend? a big fat yes. see less

You can use adaptive sync on a Freesync monitor with an Nvidia graphics card now. And it works just as well as a G-sync monitor, if the monitor is half-way decent. The Pixio PX329 is a good choice. It's 32", VA, curved, 1440p, 165 Hz with Freesync for $390.

I like your build for the reasons you gave, getting the 2080. I don't think Navi will have a card that performs better than the 2070. So getting the 2080 makes sense. It's still about $100 more than it should be, but there's no competition so you either pay that price or get a less powerful card.

Cheap IPS, checked out my mates and it really did look good for a ~$320usd monitor. I'm picking one up myself once they're back in stock for me. Too good of a value to pass up really, pocket the money. Accurate colours and it handled movement well from what I could tell in my limited use. I imagine it would look good for movies also.

I've seen this monitor at $250 recently and I think it's a great deal. It has low input lag so it will be fine for gaming, although it could be a little blurry during fast motion in FPS games.

However, I'll see what happens in the meantime, and if I decide to stick with plain 1080p instead then I'll just get the AOC 24G2U, otherwise if I find better deals for black friday, I'll go for perhaps an even better 2K monitor.

u/Harlodchiang · 1 pointr/buildmeapc

I wouldn't get 1440p for now, the 1660Ti can't handle 1440p 144Hz.

I would get a 1080p 144Hz monitor, like the AOC G2590FX or 24G2 if you don't mind the input lag.

u/pupilbodoh · 1 pointr/buildapc

I don't think RTX 2060 will be sufficient enough to reach 1440p @144Hz in AAA games. (for esports games like CSGO, LOL, Dota2 you probably could do 1440p @144Hz

You are probably better of running 1080p @144Hz.
Regarding the PPI, 1080p will look better on the 24 inch than the 27 inch.

I have done some reading around regarding 144Hz monitors and concluded the best monitor is the AOC 24G2.

Its IPS 1080p 144Hz Freesync but sadly it isn't available currently on Amazon.
So if you are willing to wait, I believe this is the best choice.

If you can't wait however, the other options are the TN panels or VA panels. With TN Panels the common complaints are regarding the inferior colors, the bad viewing angles.

On the other hand with the VA panels are with the ghosting.
For VA panels there are the AOC 24G1 Curved 1080p 144Hz Freesync

Instead of the 28" 4k screen ... maybe you'd consider a less expensive 29" or 34" 2560x1080 Ultrawide screen. Gives you that immersive wide view, without bezels. For a 4k screen, you'll really going to need SLI to keep that thing with a stable and smooth frame-rate. A single GTX 980 and probably a 970 will handle 2560x1080@60Hz with no issues.

u/Norci · 1 pointr/web_design

Weird question, depends on your needs. I really don't get your setup either way tho. Okay, desktop + laptop is reasonable, but why laptop + iPad? If you can do your stuff on a laptop/iPad, why buy desktop?

Ideally, neither of those as it seems like a giant waste. Get the 15" MacBook Pro (the $2,499.00 model with Radeon R9 M370X) and a decent display, such as Dell P2715Q (or UP2715K if you really want 5K for some weird reason).

Same total price ($3100 for cheapest iMac/MacBook Pro vs $3020 for 4K or $3600 for 5K), but you get better CPU/RAM, which is more useful for developing than a marginally better graphics card. iMac is often a shitty investment for pretty much anybody.

u/Teddyjo · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Exactly. Sure its expensive but throw together a similar PC with one of these and you'll be nearing the apple price. It's designed for video editing as you can work with a full 4k frame and still have space for the editor toolbars and whatnot. It's by no means a gaming computer

u/RogueLeaderJ · 1 pointr/PantheonMMO

Eh, 4k? Why not 5k.

u/Kronos_Selai · 1 pointr/buildapc

Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to the ETA. My guess is the end of the year for both the new Intel chipset and AMD chipset.

Here's the thing though, I honestly don't think even with 3x 1440p monitors you'll be able to make use of 4 way SLI/CF. It will be cheaper, quieter, less power hungry (need 1500 watt PSU for that or 1600), and a LOT less heat if you stick to 2 way. The problem with going 4 way is that you're going to be roasting your GPUs unless you do a custom water cooling setup. All around, it could end up being a huge pain in the ass for you. If you're really serious about rendering and such, 2 way Titan Xp (newest model) would probably be the ultimate setup that will still get fully utilized (to some extent, SLI has shitty support in lots of games). While I wouldn't get a Titan card, considering the 1080ti (but I don't render), it would at least be MORE than capable of pushing that number of pixels with ease and it wouldn't require extremely insane configurations.

I know it sounds awesome, but in practice, every quad/tri SLI/CF setup out there has always been marred by problems.

I also understand the desire in the future to bump to say...5k monitors, or even 8k, but that's a longshot that will likely require a complete system revamp by then. No current card on the market or even SLI config can tackle 8k, not even 4 way SLI Titan Xp. It just simply hasn't been written yet into the drivers, or in any way would be properly utilized outside of maybe 1 or 2 games.

Right now, the ultra high end I would suggest for work (for Mr. Bleeding edge) would be something like this -> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OKSFXZU/?tag=pcpapi-20 But it's not meant for gaming in the slightest. The tech simply doesn't exist there yet. For gaming+work I'd look at say... 2 or 3 of these with 2x Titan Xp -> https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236717&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

I love my thunderbolt display but I couldn't imagine buying one at $1000 now. There are so many better monitors available. It's insane that Apple hasn't even considered at least doing a price drop.

I do not recommend the Magic Mouse. It is small and somewhat uncomfortable to hold. The touch surface is cool but not nearly as useful as a better sized mouse. The magic trackpad, however, is excellent and if you are use to using a trackpad from being a heavy laptop user, it is an excellent device.

As for a monitor recommendation, Dell puts out some nice 4k displays.

There is a void from Apple not releasing a newer Thunderbolt monitor and other vendors have filled it. Asus, Dell, and LG all have quality offerings. This article is a little old but a good starting point.

It was for this card. The promo is listed down below in the "Special offers and product promotions" section.

The code came in an email with a link to eligible products. Monitors that it applies to are:

Acer Predator XB271HK

ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQ

LG 34UC89G-B

LG 32GK850G-B

It also looks like the code expires on the 31st.

I went through the whole new monitor decision making process recently.

1440p at 144hz with gysnc / Nsync is where you want to be, thing is the current panels aren't perfect.

You have a choice between TN (great refresher rate meh colors / viewing angles) or IPS (great colors 4ms - so not bad refresh rate, but possible IPS glow and quality issues).

I narrowed it down to Dell 2716dg, and although it's a great TN panel at 144hz / 1440p and gysnc (at a great price when on sale), thing is I had an IPS before and I simply couldn't tolerate color banding of a TN panel.

I ended up getting the Acer XB2711hk (and I won the IPS lottery, got a flawless one).

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HK-bmiprz-Widescreen/dp/B018MYTF4W/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1497027574&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=acer+predator+27&psc=1

If your current monitor is working I'd recommend waiting a few months until the new wave of IPS (Samsung has some in the works) comes out.

A shitty 4k monitor isn't expensive, or a good monitor with gsync and decent color contrast isn't expensive? Don't even get me started with finding a monitor with HDR. Please let me know which one your actually talking about..

Okay so here's the deal. You could essentially go for 4K 60 hz, or go for 2k 144hz. Unless you want to spend way more for a 4k 144hz monitor. But that's very pricey. From $700 to $1400, but the best ones definitely at the higher end. That's completely out of budget. At the same time, 1080p 60hz is terrible for us because we don't see any benefit from our 2080ti.

So we either want to go for frame rate at 2k, or 4k at a much lower frame rate of 60hz.

You will find most people choose frames. You will definitely see a huge difference. Your games will be 100hz and up at 1440p. You also want a gsync monitor for your Nvidia card.

So in your budget for best overall monitor I would choose:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06ZXZ3QBD/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I think you meant the LG 34UC98. That one indeed has Thunderbolt, and a white backside, for which you pay a nice premium of around $150 :S

The UC88 doesn't have Thunderbolt, I've got one, but for me it's completely fine as I don't need it, it's great that they have this more affordable option for people who don't care about Thunderbolt.

u/cyberdouche · 1 pointr/photography

I've been doing most of my photo work on my macbook pro 15" for about a year now and since I've gotten a lot more active on Photoshop recently, I'm ready to make the jump to a larger screen. The real estate you get in photoshop on a 15" is just not there, regardless of the pixels.

I'm thinking I'll dock the macbook and just use the external monitor as the only monitor. I'm not really sure what I want to go for for doing photography work, are there some specific characteristics I would be better off with? Admittedly I'm not doing any kind of pro magazine work where I need perfect color calibration, so there's no point in paying extra for that, so it's mostly about screen estate.

I'm thinking something like https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC98-W-34-Inch-UltraWide-Thunderbolt/dp/B019O78DPS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1473913696&sr=8-3&keywords=LG+34UM88-P could be one way to go, admittedly it's on the pricey side. Also I probably shouldn't bother with curved screens so I can actually work with straight lines.

u/Dionyzoz · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I cant really decide if I should buy the Samsung CF791, LG 34UC98-W or the ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q.

I have a GTX 1070 and the monitor will mostly be used for regular internet browsing, casual gaming and movies, Im guessing because of my GPU I should get something with G-Sync since I probably wont be able to reach 100hz in most games but Im not sure.

so which monitor would probably be the best to buy?

Also can you use HDMI or do I need to use the display port for maximum value?

One last question. When using a dual monitor setup, I would like my primary gaming monitor to be this one (whichever one I buy for the Fsync), and my secondary one as a google chrome/system monitoring, misc, etc, screen. Hi. These computer recommendations are fine, /u/deathaddict 's is pretty solid, though i'd spec 64GB of RAM

That being said, I don't like the monitor choices presented. One of the suggestions here isn't even an IPS monitor, that's bad. I would suggest not using an Asus monitor for editing. Dell or LG make fantastic work station and editing monitors that are much nicer to use than Asus.

I'm not sure how serious you are about editing, if you're professional or not. When it comes to computers i'm a fan of overkill in the build, so if you can swing it the LG 31MU97 is the best you can do on a reasonable budget. Full Adobe RGB and sRGB coverage along with 97% of the DCI-P3 colorspace. Though it is not good for gaming.

I am also a fan of the LG 27UD88-W if you need something cheaper and also want to game consistently.

Even less expensive is the Dell P2715Q, this one is only 8bit but it does a great job in the price range. I use one for my photo work, which is web based so it's fine for me. If I were printing I would buy something better, and 10bit.

I havent used it, but the BenQ BL2711U is apparently very good for its price, too.
Hope this helps!

:EDIT:

After some reading the The Asus PB279Q listed in a comment looks good on paper, actually. But I have yet to use an Asus display that didn't have a weird mesh sheen inside of the panel, it's tough to describe. It really messes up the way whites look and i'm not a fan. Maybe this one doesn't have that, but I can't be sure.

I would recommend seeking out computer stores that have the monitors i've listed in this post and looking at them before you buy. That's the easiest way to make an informed decision!

I wanted the cleanest possible solution, so I bought a LG 27UD88-W 27-Inch 4K UHD IPS Monitor which just has a single USB-C cable to the XPS 13 (or any other laptop w/ USB-C). This provides power/charges the laptop and receives 4K video back. Also provides to USB ports on the back of the monitor.

More than the Dell or LG mentioned, but I am guessing this is because it is a newer screen. I do like the near zero bezel design that LG has, and some newer Dell's have this as well.

The display that /u/mo4fun was referencing does, but it is still quite pricey, albeit it does seem like a great monitor.

With the 2016 MacBook Pro line essentially confirmed to have 4 USB-C ports, I think I might hold out then get one of them, along with a USB-C enabled display like this.

u/meinkomfort · 1 pointr/PS4

u/blacktian · 1 pointr/AppleWhatShouldIBuy

Yes you can use a adaptor for it. I've no experience with it, but this seems to be a good option?

There are also some monitors that support charging your Macbook. So you have only one cable going to your monitor, which is used for the display and powering your Macbook.

One more option is a 1080p VA/PLS/IPS FreeSync monitor - perhaps a 27" model if you're not sitting close to it. There's a ton of them coming up from Samsung and LG, with prices starting from around $200 for a 24" model. Personally I'm considering this curved Samsung. Not an upgrade in terms of resolution from my 1080p IPS monitor, but at least it's big and curved.

Age is a big factor, the Asus is from 2013 and one of the first 144hz monitors, whereas the others are much newer and support things such as freesync (if you're an AMD user). Also blur reduction is supported on the 24GM77-B which is awesome. It can be "enabled" on the older Asus via a hack and it does actually work well.

I totally forgot about the MG248Q as well which is the Asus updated model. Haven't used it personally but it seems smarter to go with the updated option for sure, especially since they are at the same price point.

I'm not sure it would fit, on the desks I have the net is really tight. I had the power brick for my monitor in the net and when I was moving my setup I could barely get the cables out.

Edit: You can see in OP's photo he has his surge protector on the floor beside the desk.

This monitor is on sale for $299 CAN at my local store. This will be my first monitor purchase to my first pc build. I tend to play more competitive games such as battlefield and rainbow six. I don’t know much on gaming monitors so I’m hoping you can help me out.

  1. I’m wondering if this monitor has any compatibility issues with certain pc parts such as graphics card and processors.

  2. Is 24 inches too small for a gaming monitor?

  3. How is the price for this monitor in comparison to its features?

  4. Is this a good monitor for consoles? (Xbox one S)

    Thanks
u/SuperDeluxe7 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Its better to be future proof than not imo. Also 1080p 144hz monitor would be the cheapest. This one to be exact or this one for a more budget friendly price.

u/jeolmang · 1 pointr/buildapc

144hz is sick dude. I suggest either the [Asus vg248qe](https://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-1920x1080-144Hz-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ref=sr_1_1?s=pI love itc&ie=UTF8&qid=1482659895&sr=1-1&keywords=vg248qe) or a BenQ, but those are more expensive and of similar quality.

edit: If freesynch is what you need this is probably a good bet.

Sorry, it was a bit late as I was typing this. I've gone on PCPartpicker, and I've looked at a few options, just wondering what everyone here thought.

I currently have an RX480 8GB, will be building a new pc in the coming months and probably will be upgrading that to a GTX 1080/1180(or whatever the next gen is called).

The models I'm currently looking at are:

Asus MG248Q

LG 24GM79G-B

BenQ XL2411P

AOC G2460PF

I presently have one 1080p 60Hz 1ms refresh rate monitor that I will be keeping until a time comes when I can get a 3rd 144hz, but right now that's just not in the budget.

Of those 4 models, which would you pick?

u/cseib17 · 1 pointr/Monitors

Would you prefer that one over this Asus monitor? It's $260 at my local microcenter so they're both pretty much the same price. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01F9UC20Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1494824284&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=asus+24"+144hz

Go ultra wide. You already got the 4Ks for video editing so the curve won't negatively affect you. In fact you'll probably love it.

The difference between 144 and 100hz is significantly less pronounced than 60 and 100.

Since you have the 4Ks for video, IPS is suddenly less critical. AOC makes a wva 35" 100hz for $300-400 less than the 34" IPS's. It's got a hook for your headset too.

What video card do you have?

2560x1080 look fine in games. Productivity-wise 3440x1440 will be a lot better.

But if you've got a 970 or 980 or even a 1070 you may not be able to keep a 1440 UW fed very well.

If you're fine with the x34 @ 1390 - why not look at the Omen 35? It's available on amazon.ca brand-new for $1394.

https://www.amazon.ca/Hewlett-Packard-X3W57AA-HP-35/dp/B01N0TFAW6

And the AOC Agon is $1162.

https://www.amazon.ca/AOC-AG352UCG-Curved-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B06X9CBRTP/

I don't think the x34 is worth significantly more than either of those monitors.

Oh and just to add on about this:

> But 200hz...

You may be able to hit that with a 1080Ti on the 2560x1080 monitor. But on 3440x1440 with a 1080 I float around 40-70fps in PUBG on my x34 and that's with a few of the details turned down. You'd likely be hard-pressed to find anything that is going to hit 100Hz on a 1440 UW even with a 1080Ti.

u/jimmajamma · 1 pointr/cade

It's not that hard to do all by yourself if you're a bit handy. Here are some links to get you started:

Joystick and Button Kit. There are many on ebay, look for best price and type you want - be careful if you get buttons separate from encoders as they have different sized wire connectors. Also see the shipping time as many come from China and may take a month or more to get to you:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Zero-Delay-Arcade-Game-DIY-Kits-Black-LED-Button-Joystick-USB-Encoder-AC1473/232958201621

Raspberry Pi 3 B+:

https://www.amazon.com/RS-Components-Raspberry-Pi-Motherboard/dp/B07BFH96M3

You'll also need a raspberry pi power supply (micro usb), and microsd card (both easily found on Amazon).

There are a lot of monitor choices depending on what you're looking for. You can get an old LCD monitor for cheap but should check the viewing angles if you'd like to use it in portrait mode. If you go that route and the monitor is VGA you'll need a VGA to HDMI converter:

https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-CableCreation-Female-Converter-NoteBook/dp/B013G4C17G

The Raspberry Pi supports HDMI so any modern monitor would work without the converter.

Alternatively you can get a raw LCD panel by itself and drive it with a converter board:

https://www.amazon.com/Controller-HSD190MEN4-M170EN06-1280x1024-30Pins/dp/B06X9NJ2NR

though it's probably easiest to get an old or new monitor and take it apart or hide everything except the screen with a custom bezel.

In terms of speakers I like these Logitech Z213 2.1 speakers:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Logitech-Z213-2-1-Speakers-for-PC-and-Mobile-Devices-980-000941/181060190908

They are cheap and have good enough sound for the old games and with the sub-woofer it actually sounds better than the old games did. They are amplified and can just plug into a power strip inside the case so no raw wiring to do. Also they have a wired volume control that you could mount somewhere convenient. Just be sure to buy from someone that will accept returns or that is shipping you new product instead of refurbished as I've gotten a couple bad ones.

I also like this power strip as it has enough outlets and USBs to drive everything including the Raspberry Pi:

https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Charger-100-240V-Computer-Transformers/dp/B01JRXRTC2

For one of my builds I also bought USB extension cables and some USB LED lights to use behind the marquee. Using this approach the wiring for everything will be very straightforward. No special electrical stuff to deal with.

You may also want to add a coin door that you could even make work by connecting the coin mechanism to one of the inputs on the joystick controllers:

https://www.amazon.com/Arcade-Coin-Quarter-Acceptor-X-Arcade/dp/B005EN6SUY

Possible software to run:

https://retropie.org.uk/

http://blog.sheasilverman.com/pimame-raspberry-pi-os-download/

Also, there are other options that remove the need for software configuration and joystick calibration that you might want to look into if you're not very technical. Notably Jamma boards which are more ready to go:

https://retroactivearcade.ca/collections/jamma-game-boards

You'd use that rather than the Raspbery Pi and the joystick encoders but you'd still use the same joysticks and buttons. The wiring is a bit more complicated with a Jamma board than with those handy joystick encoders, but still pretty straightforward.

If you have any questions send them my way. I've done a few rebuilds, a brand new machine from scratch and am in the middle of another one from scratch.

It's very rewarding. I even bought a wide format printer so I could print my own graphics on adhesive vinyl and apply it to the cabinets instead of paint.

Also, poke around the net and you'll find PDF plans for your favorite old game cabinet which you can print out and piece together and use as a template to cut the sides of your cabinet. I don't know about you but I'm very nostalgic about the old cabinets, their unique shapes and the creative art from back then so I prefer having a specific machine than a generic one. But to each their own. :)

Good luck!

u/Mattgx082 · 1 pointr/Arcade1Up

Yeah I did too and thought by detail and model number it would work...however a Reddit user on here superskaith I believe did his and pointed out his monitor number ended in 06 instead of 11. I looked at the reviews and sure enough users with my board ending in 11 are using the one for it ending in 06. I scrolled down and it said compatible with my number as well, with a lot of mk2 machines done with glowing reviews. So I ordered the one he showed me and did my research and should be the right one coming Thursday. If it doesn't work I'm going with the 29.99 Dell monitor to replace and getting a dvi to hdmi converter. Any money I've lost on this is just shipping. So at least there's that and no big loss on my part. It will work! Lol

Ok, so here's the encoder I'm using with my MK which works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06X9NJ2NR/

I think the issue you may be having is that the MK monitor (at least the one I have -- it may vary even by MK cab depending on what they have lying around!) is M170EN06, but the encoder you got doesn't appear to support that model. I'm not 100% sure that that's the issue, as the one you got supports some very similar model numbers, so I'd almost think it would probably work, but have you triple checked your ground wire?

Seems like it's IPS. The screen is by no means of a quality worthy of doing professional Photoshop editing, but to have it as a battle map in your table the quality / price is super decent.

Viewing angles are great if viewed from under, above, left and right. Only point where the image washes out just a little is if it's viewed from the corners (so diagonally)

It definitely helps that the table isn't super high, so you're kind of looking down on it. The higher you have the screen, the more it starts to look a little washed out.

Before the table was built I ordered the screen and just put it flat on my old dining table, to see if it was doable. You can always try that and send it back if it's not what you want.

This is what I’m using. It isn’t G-Sync, and even though I want it, I’m not totally ready to make that jump quite yet. That’s a pricy piece of hardware.

Had my eye on this one.... not sure how good it is though:

I see what you mean, But I dunno I always thought it was cool, I wanted a curved monitor originally but my main monitor being flat is better for fps which is one of the main things I play so obviously I didnt go curved for that, However for a side monitor I always thought it would be cool. And since you're still around what do you think of this monitor?

There’s no way this is going to run 1080p 80FPS max but it’s the best you can do with your minimum requirements and budget.

u/zenthrowaway17 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Just a suggestion here.

Switched a few things around to fit in a larger SSD, faster RAM, as well as a 1060 6GB.

EDIT: Just noticed, you could also get a larger, 24" monitor for about the same price if you wanted.

Something like this one. That one's also 75Hz instead of 60, which is a nice bonus.

u/pmmekpopsongs · 1 pointr/buildapc

Apparently this one is okay. Only $100.

I have an AOC monitor myself and I like it. This is about $110.

They aren’t great... in fact, the best thing about them was the price. Lol.

I would recommend this monitor. https://www.amazon.com/Sceptre-E248W-19203R-Monitor-Speakers-Metallic/dp/B0773ZY26F/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1528159055&sr=8-2&keywords=sceptre+24+inch

Its also 75hz, but it is $85 less. I would also recommend going with a dedicated GPU and no APU at all, because they cost slightly more. Just get a good CPU. I would recommend the ryzen 1500x, they have literally the same performance but this is $13 less and it is overclockable. I overclock to 4.0 GHz from 3.7.

The motherboard is also somewhat expensive, I would recommend this one. It is $45 less and does the exact same stuff. I am not sure why the other guy suggested the more pricy one, but if you like the style then go for it.

I will add more info later, Please read this whole thing and if you have any questions ask me. I have built 3 PCs.

On the Mac mini? yeah. That was a massive mistake, and the old quad core minis are still extremely popular (people sell them for a nice fraction of the original price).

It's like, the do a good job on phones, and make nice laptops (although those haven't been updated in a while now, so what the fuck apple), but they seem to have completely abandoned making decent desktops, except for the screens. That 5K display is gorgeous, and it's the same one used in this Dell Monitor

I really wish they'd get their heads out of their asses. Maybe revamping the entire lineup like they are about to do now is what it'll take.

If they do it right, we'll see nvidia's mobile pascal chips used across the line, along with it being built into their external 5K displays, so that adding a second display also adds an external GPU (via thunderbolt) with the screen. Then, I could finally go to my dream setup of a nice laptop with a great monitor and external GPU.

Edit: why the hell was this downvoted?

Here's my quick build on it, not perusing for price savings. I could probably shave a few hundred off (i.e. going for air cooling instead of liquid), but if I were going to build one for me, this is how I'd do it. Cost ended up being about on par (~$2,850) for a more powerful machine (GTX1080 > Radeon Pro 580)

Case - $49.99

CPU - $295.00

Motherboard - $114.99

RAM - $126.99

PSU - $129.67

GPU - $576.62

Storage - $139.50

Liquid cooling - $107.99

Display - $1,299.99

Total:
$2840.74

Ways to shave some off -
Look at other monitors, I didn't really hunt too much here as I'm not an expert in that field, so I just looked for a "true" color 5k. I think HP's would fit that bill at around $900 (so $400 cheaper), but I could be wrong, so I went with the more pricey one.

Go with the GTX1070 (saves about $100) or the GTX1060 (saves about $300).

Nix liquid cooling and just go with air cooled (save $107.99)

Which puts a "budget" build of this at ~$2,400, $2,000 if the HP monitor works. Plus, since it's all on Amazon, if you have their store card, -5%, so, that puts us at ~$2280 (-400 if the HP monitor fits the bill) for the budget build and $2,698.70 (-400 if the HP monitor counts) for how I'd actually build it if I were doing it for me.

u/Kepabar · 0 pointsr/graphic_design

I'm not a designer myself, but I've been asked by a designer to help him pick out some new displays. He used to be Apple only, but since Apple stopped producing displays recently he has to get something else.

He does design for print work mostly, and color matching between whats on screen and what is printed is of course a big deal.

Budget is about 5-600 a monitor, and I've been looking at something like this:

Any suggestions?

Ok that clears up a lot.

When playing on an xbox, the resolution for games will be at 1080p and below. So there is really no point in having a 4k monitor or 1440p monitor. Also the xbox refresh rate in a lot of games cant achieve (let alone surpass) 60 fps. So overall I would just stick with a HD TV or somthing rather than spend a bunch on a monitor for an Xbox. Now if you had a gaming PC on the otherhand, that would be a difftent story.

However, if you really want a 4k HDR monitor that would be nice to look at, go for this: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-27-Inch-LED-lit-Monitor-U2718Q/dp/B073VYVX5S/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1512001767&sr=1-1&keywords=dell+ultrasharp+hdr

Microsoft is overcharging for that Surface Studio, unless it has ultra-fancy stuff. $3500 for:

i7-7820HQ - way outclassed by the 3600X which costs $248 on Amazon

GTX 1070 - way outclassed by the RX 5700 which costs $350 on Amazon

32GB RAM - Only spec given is DDR4, so 32gb DDR4-3200 is $200 on Amazon

1TB SSD - let's get a 2tb one for $200

Windows 10 - Official license cost is $100

28 in 4500x3000 monitor - This is actually the only remotely challenging thing to get for cheap. 4K doesn't quite match it and 8K cost is through the roof. But I found a colour-calibrated 1440p monitor for $800 so I guess that'll do for content creation.

Total cost: $1898. That leaves $1602 for a PSU, case, case fans, headphones/speakers and motherboard (and maybe cpu cooler if the wraith spire doesn't cut it for you) before we exceed the Surface Studio's price. Therefore, unless you really need that 4500x3000 resoluion, it's a bit of a rip off. And if you really do need high resolution? Well you get the mac, and maybe install Windows to it.

What if I wanted one?

I could build 2 similar computers with the 3.7k$ left.
