What is your solution for the shower hair? I've just been draino blasting it when it gets clogged.

Edit: Wow I have a lot of replies!

Here are the top suggestions:

  1. Take a coat hangar and bend it into a hook, then jimmy-jam that sucker down the pipe and pull out the hair debacle.

  2. Similar to a coat hangar is this little spiky dildo that goes in easy but comes out like a horny duck. It promises to fuck the hair right out of the drain and is $2-4 online or at your local hardware store.

  3. Never let the offending hair get down the drain in the first place; brush it out first, stick it to the wall, or use a handy drain prophylactic. (again, online or at your local fix-it store)

  4. Various formulations of DIY draino, most common being bleach and boiling water. (Hot water will denature some proteins all on its own)

So, I just went through my Amazon orders and pretty much every single thing I saw that I bought for myself I thought was the best thing I ever purchased.

With great pain and strain, I narrowed it down to these three things:

  • Inflatable Japanese Soaking Tub // I've always desired a deep bathtub that is in the Japanese soaking tub style. I had dreams of remodeling my bathroom to put in such a bathtub but when I priced it out the price tag had a lot of figures and made me very nervous. This device packs up to the size of two furled full size golf umbrellas side-by-side, but also fits into my existing bathtub and creates the soaking tub I so desire. Oh, and it cost under $100. Far less than a bathroom reno.

  • Klymit Static V Insulated // It truly is a super crazy comfortable sleeping pad/mat for side sleepers. I camp with a quilt, rather than a sleeping bag, but that hasn't been a problem.

  • ThermaRest Ultralight Cot Knock Off // At $40 vs $100+ for the name brand, but with the additional cost of 2 lbs, I am really happy with this cot. It is delightfully comfortable and I use it when traveling. I can sleep on my side without any sore spots developing.

    Edited to add links.

I've got a couple ideas, maybe one of them will work for you.

First, I assume you're changing your pads/tampons often, so that's not the issue. Maybe consider using a portable bidet whenever you use the restroom. They clean waay better than toilet paper, and aren't harsh like some wipes.

Second, I don't want to beat a dead horse or anything, but consider trying out a menstrual cup if you haven't already. They just seem to me to keep everything contained a little better.

Third, keep in mind your sense of smell might be in high gear during your period. Like, seriously bloodhound level (no pun intended). Next time you think you stink, consider asking a close friend to give you their opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if you're the only one who notices.

Allow me to save you a bunch of money.

Buy two of THESE
and something like THIS and THIS
Along with $15 worth of fittings from home depot you'll have many years of spare filters. If you're interested I can go take a picture of my setup. I have these two filters before my water softener.

u/thalassicus · 16 pointsr/BurningMan

A super clean butt right out of the portos can be yours for less than $10. That's the real game changer.

u/Decyde · 10 pointsr/vancouver

No, they sell Bidet hoses you hook up to your waterline going into your toilet and they sit on the outside of the toilet.

Something like this.

u/DataDiictodons · 9 pointsr/fixit

We use a drain protector over ours that’s easy to clean. Won’t help with soap buildup but will prevent hair from going down the drain. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003M8GMUY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JDIBDb6N5DH3X

u/traal · 9 pointsr/Frugal

I skimp on toilet paper by not buying it at all.

u/0110010001100010 · 9 pointsr/HomeImprovement

I suppose I should have done that initially, lol.

Then just whatever copper/PVC/PEX fittings you need to make it happen. I guess a bit over $100 but the filters drive that cost up a little and last ~3 months each so each pack is a half years worth.

I plumbed mine with a bypass too so I could bypass the filters for maintenance or if I had problems of if I'm doing a lot of outside watering (power washing).

  • an adjustable height desk; the ability to stand to work when I want to has been wonderful.
  • a really nice office chair; after injuring my back, it has helped me sit for long stretches and still be able to stand up from quickly, unlike just about any other chair.
  • a bidet attachment for my toilet; using standard toilets now is such a disappointment.
  • a smartphone; always having the internet with me, a camera when I need it, music and podcasts while I run, and a dash cam.

Bidet owner since late October of last year. It's probably the best thing I own in my house next to my air conditioner and my ice cube trays. Seriously. It's better than the internet and the internet has porn.

If you're even remotely curious about the cleaning quality, get the one I got on Amazon for $70. It's cheap enough to not hurt you financially if you don't like it, but it's a good enough quality for it to last you many, many years.

u/ramses0 · 6 pointsr/IAmA

Not a plumber but I've had good luck with these:

Evriholder HS Hair Stopper Bath Strainer, Pack of 2 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003B02L2G/

For the tub, unscrew the existing metal drain stopper, poke a hole in the bottom of these plastic things and it'll prevent 99% of the hair from going in to your drain.

It has little plastic spikes that catch the hairs and you just clean that thing off occasionally.

Sink backing up I have no good advice.

u/Rawtashk · 5 pointsr/tressless

>Have you experienced multiple sheds while on treatment?

Yes. I still get at least 1 or 2 sheds a year. Stressed me out majorly the first few times, but now I just roll with the punches.

> How much hair do you usually use in the shower?

I use a hair catch like this one. It's not an exact science, but it gives me a good idea of the hair that's shed while showering. I'd say that it's a pinch of hair about every shower, but prior to Fin/Rogain/Niz I was slowing down the drain of water on those standard silver catches that has large holes in it.

u/smirk79 · 5 pointsr/AskReddit

Here's my "asshole with too much disposable income" version. .

  • Toto Toilet Seat
  • Inada Massage Chair
  • "Fitness" Pole
  • Parallettes

The toilet seat is wonderful - I mean we're piping in and heating up water for the express purpose of making going to the bathroom a much better and toilet paper free experience. It even has a pink button for girls I never press.

The chair costs far less (and I bought mine in person for substantially cheaper than amazon sells it) than many people will spend on inconsequential upgrades for a car. It is soothing to know that on-demand you or anyone you choose to let use the chair can access a pleasant, therapeutic experience for the price of a dime's worth of electricity.

The parallel bars gave me access to press handstands, something I can do on concrete in public now without fear. I do street performance of acroyoga for fun and it's incredibly inviting to be able to be at ease playing acrobatically in public. The pole is crazy difficult, humbling, and a party in 4 square feet. AMA!
u/Erulastiel · 5 pointsr/Frugal

We have a hair stopper. It works pretty well. I used to have to use some sort of un clogging liquid at least once a month before this. We bought it cheaper at Walmart though. Definitely saves you money in the long run.

u/ImYourValkyrie · 5 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I can't live without baths, I love them so much! Love to come home after work to soak and relax. My coworker just moved into an apartment with no tub, just the shower. I saw on amazon that there are portable soaking tubs! Just set it in the shower and let the water fill it up.

I'm not so good at reddit so I can't make this link shorter but here it is:

https://www.amazon.com/Happy-Life-Portable-Plastic-Bathtub/dp/B008XSXQIO

u/ColinsEgo · 5 pointsr/pinealgland

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IB14XDU/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_11?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2M18O26V9DT3Z

This is your best option if you live in an apartment, get an under-the-sink version if you own your property. Distilled water has no fluoride, yes. But it is dangerous because it saps all of your body's minerals from the intestinal tract which is not good. Also the way the water is distilled, chlorine and other cleaning chemicals (which are 1000x more harmful than fluoride) also evaporate with the steam and make its way back into the water when condensed. So yeah best option is a 3-stage Reverse osmosis water purifier.

u/sometimesineedhelp · 5 pointsr/preppers

>You have to be frugal to get an adult clean on one tank

We used to use a garden sprayer camping too, but then discovered this incredibly simply little gadget and found we got more thoroughly rinsed and cleaner "feeling" on even less water than we used with the sprayer. That plus one of these = the most efficient camping shower that actually gets you feeling as clean as your regular shower at home can, the garden sprayer just never had enough pressure or volume to make you feel like the soap and grime is actually off your body, you know? :)

u/sherbetlemon · 4 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

Hair catcher. No more clogged shower drain.

u/RugerRedhawk · 4 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Could just stick one of these over it: https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-Clean-Shower-Protector/dp/B003M8GMUY/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1475260091&sr=8-12&keywords=drain+hair

There are other solutions, I just searched 'drain hair' on amazon.

u/IgnanceIsBliss · 4 pointsr/homeowners

Replace the flushing mechanism in your toilet. Sometimes when they start to go bad or the seals start to go bad water can seam buy and cause vibrations which will set off a high pitched noise. Changes in water pressure when your in the shower may cause it and when you flush the toilet everything gets reseated and temporarily fixes itself. They arent expensive or hard to replace. You can do it yourself with next to no handman experience.

Edit: This is the part youre looking to replace. Amazon sells them for $15 if you dont feel like getting off your couch but lowes/homedepot/walmart will have them as well.

u/tallcardsfan · 4 pointsr/vandwellers

Murphy bed!!! or this!

Composting toilet! Grab a bucket of sawdust to go with it.

Deflatable tub or portable Japanese soaking tub for shower!
If you need it... HOT shower!

Hand sink!

Camping stove that can be used indoors.

Water filter system for drinking and cooking.

Water storage!

For short term! ....just figure out how to secure it all! Fun! Fun!

u/Er1ss · 4 pointsr/Ultralight

IMO anyone with a stake bag is glamping. Might as well bring your own pool at that point.

I got my bidet off Woot, but Amazon has them for under $30. You'll want to get a better connector than the plastic one they come with, but it's been a godsend for me.

https://www.amazon.com/TP70-Handheld-Personal-Portable-Capacity/dp/B00O92IF6Q/ref=sr_1_7?crid=7YUMED4AGJKQ is a cheap and easy tester for the portable ones.

https://www.amazon.com/Luxe-Bidet-Neo-120-Non-Electric/dp/B00A0RHSJO/ref=sr_1_4 is what Woot.com had for about the same price, and I love it.

u/KarlProjektorinsky · 4 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Definitely the inline filter for the bathroom sink; that's by far the easiest solution.

Something like this would be more than good enough.

One other note: if the fixture is old, you may want to run it for a minute or so to get any lead in the water out. Bathroom fixtures contained leaded alloys into the 80s and mid-90s in some places...no appreciable amount of lead but over time it makes a difference. Letting the water run is a perfectly fine way to manage this, you don't need to replace it if it works well.

u/sexinthepark · 3 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

you could get one of these drain protector thingies

u/nikapo · 3 pointsr/legaladvice

Drano won't do diddly on lots of hair. My hair goes down past my waist, I've had to fix clogged drains for years. Try using a drain trap to catch hair. We have one of those types of drains that you push in the plug to fill the tub so we're using one of these and it fits over the drain, but there's lots of different kinds. That particular one doesn't have adhesive or anything to ruin the tub, and unless your tub drains really slow it won't float away while you shower. Haven't had clogged drains since (but the dog loves to snatch it from the tub and play with it, but that's besides the point).

I pretty much went to the Amazon top-rated ones in the category; I got this one first and it's great, then when we built another bathroom next to my bedroom I bought one of these because I was curious about the warm water (it's nice, but it was a bit more difficult to install and takes time to warm up anyway). Both of them were a lot cheaper when I bought them 3-4 years ago; it looks like the top-rated one right now is this; I can't personally speak about it but the ratings are good. :)

Also I forgot to mention in my first post: toilet paper lasts basically forever. Using four to six squares just to dry off it takes me over three months to use a single roll.

u/thebruns · 3 pointsr/AskNYC

Forget Brita. it doesnt remove metals.

I recommend Zero Water filters. Yes, they cost more. But they remove everything. Even comes with a tester thing so you can test the quality of your water.

https://smile.amazon.com/ZeroWater-Pitcher-Quality-BPA-Free-Certified/dp/B0073PZ6O0/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=zero+water&qid=1563896922&s=gateway&sr=8-3

(there are different sizes, not just this model)

One issue: When the filter is used up, your water suddenly starts to taste bad. Thats a good thing that you know its time to get a new filter. The bad aprt is when youre out and its 2 days until the new one comes. Just something to keep in mind.

u/LeifCarrotson · 3 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Yes, especially if you're on well water you need/want a filter (not RO, just a solids filter) before the softener. The resin pellets in the softener will be destroyed by incoming silt or solids. It's cheap insurance.

Something like this:

Is all you need. Maybe a little bigger if you have many bathrooms.

I bought a $79 hand bidet off amazon. It came in two days (no prime) and I had it installed it literally under 10 minutes. No electricity required, works great, and the thing has literally saved my ass. Highly recommend.

u/not_an_achiever · 3 pointsr/xxketo

I've had this about 2 years (bidet sprayer). Regardless of what's coming out, this is nice to have (no more buying TP!)! And poo-pourri, which you can also DIY.

Congratulations!

I see you went with squishy bronze, good choice. I'm guessing that this is a step up in size for you, so you're body will need some time to get used to is. Be patient. I worked my way up to all day wear over a space of a couple weeks, and it was months before I sized up and started training for all day wear again. I'm no were even close to that with my latest. Practice makes perfect, you'll be taking it like a champ in no time.

Learning to relax is really the most important part of keeping it in honestly. The plug should be big enough that it will stay in on it's own as long as you keep your muscles from clamping down on it. You can practice your control by clamping down on it like you would cut off a turd mid motion. This has the pleasant side effect of pushing the plug up into your body and, if you're lucky, rubbing it against your prostate, which is it's own reward. Hold the contraction for 5 or 10 seconds then relax everything for 10 or 20 seconds. Repeat for a couple minutes. Your butt will be so tired, and your prostate so stimulated, that you won't be able to push it out.

Incidentally, learning to control those muscles makes a huge difference in how enjoyable any kind of anal play is. Learning to let something, or someone, slip into your ass with no resistance, but then clamping down on them and not letting them leave is fun.

Stopping nasty stuff is a little trickier, but honestly not much. Fiber supplements. For me Fiber-Con is simply the best bang for your buck. It will keep things firm and cohesive, and makes taking a dump a much cleaner, quicker, and a more comfortable process. Then it's just a matter of a quick rinse out with your douching tool of choice. I have a Bidet attachment on my toilet that I use for a quick rinse. But you can even use a sports bottle full of water. This takes a little practice too. To much water and you'll get water past the colon, that can get a lot more complicated and take a lot more time.

u/agedmanofwar · 3 pointsr/ZeroWaste

The kind I have is a handheld sprayer. Kind of like what you see on kitchen sinks, the little water guns. I just wash it with cleaner the same way I do the rest of the toilet. It doesn't really get dirty though. Because it sprays water out so usually anything is getting shot away from it. This is the kind I go. Worth every penny and I really mean that. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0108GMCWY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There have been times I was showering and noticed a spider on the wall above me and although I keep an eye on it...at some point I look up and it's fucking gone, nowhere to be found!

Anyway, I have this thing in my drain that catches the hair. You might find this useful.

There's not really any bidet you could call mainstream in the US, but one product that comes kind of close is the Toto Washlet, a popular and well-liked item that's been around a while. Take a close look at the pros and cons to see if it would meet your needs, as it's not strictly a bidet like the kind you'd find in, say, Italy.

You could probably find a plumber or kitchen/bath remodeler in your area who could handle the installation—and given the skill level you're describing, I would leave the job to a pro.

Get something portable like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001BYV3J6?pc_redir=1397646847&robot_redir=1

If it is just a quick refresh, just use the portable bidet to rinse with warm water. If you have been especially active/sweaty, wipe with a wet wipe (one made for using on your intimate area) or baby wipe, then rinse with warm water. This is so you are more thoroughly cleaning, and you can dilute the scent of the wet wipe (you wouldn't want a strong perfumy or baby powder scent left behind). Or rinse the wet wipe first to dilute the scent if you don't want to use water to rinse.

At home you can install a mini shower portable bidet so you can wash right over the toilet. Something like this (do a search of "mini shower bidet" to see other brands)

u/TCsnowdream · 2 pointsr/todayilearned

Also, this is a good model, it's also not too expensive (They can go up in price, quite spectacularly).

u/flatcurve · 2 pointsr/todayilearned

Yes. You want to search for either "Electronic Toilet Seat" or "Advanced Bidet Toilet Seat" or "washlet.' There's a range. Fair warning: They're typically not cheap. I got this one at Costco for $200 a few years ago, which is definitely on the low side for one of those, especially with that feature set. It's not available anymore though. A comparable model could be about $400-$500. This one is reasonably priced at $250, but it doesn't have an air dryer feature like the intelliseat. I also had an opportunity to use this one when I was in Japan, and it gets a nod of approval.

It seems like a lot to spend, but as others have said, once you get accustomed to it, you realize it's worth every penny.

If I was planning to up my "water game" personally I would consider 2 options based on the volume of water needed. First option is to just buy gallons of water from the supermarket and see if you can find one that you enjoy. They usually sell for under a dollar. The second option is to step up from a brita and get a zero water filter (https://www.amazon.com/ZeroWater-ZP-010-10-Cup-Pitcher/dp/B0073PZ6O0/ref=sr_1_2?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1468271402&sr=1-2&keywords=zerowater). This one is like 30 USD and comes with a TDS meter which you can use on coffee too.

u/oldDotredditisbetter · 2 pointsr/Anticonsumption

you can try water filter? something like this?

u/travellingmonk · 2 pointsr/CampingGear

The LifeStraw bottle has an "activated carbon capsule" which will remove organic chemicals like pesticides. Most backpacking filters like the Sawyer Mini use a filter that will remove microbes like Crypto and Giardia, but don't do anything for chemicals. You can buy something like the Katadyn Carbon Cartridge which attaches inline, or get something like the MSR Sweetwater filter which has an Activated Carbon core that removes chemicals.

Another option is to bring an empty ZeroWater Pitcher or (or Brita or Pur, I've just read ZW pitchers are much better at removing pesticides and other chemicals).

The main reason hikers don't use the LifeStraw bottle is that it's filtering on demand... which is slow and not as convenient as having filtered water in a bladder. It also means you don't have filtered water for cooking or brushing your teeth. With a pump or gravity filter system, you have a couple large bladders of filtered water from which everyone can take.

I have these on my toilets. Makes it easy to keep clean. Maybe that would be a hint, at least if she was at your place. Plus, if you're setting a tone of washing up yourself before sex, I think your partner is more likely to follow suit.

The idea of getting her to shower with you is a good one. Really, if she turns that down, I don't think anything short of directly asking is going to do it.

u/govegan_ctfu · 2 pointsr/PlantBasedDiet

It's not a pitcher but we use an [APEC countertop filtration system] (https://www.amazon.com/APEC-Countertop-Water-Installation-Free-RO-CTOP/dp/B00IB14XDU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1539917641&sr=8-3&keywords=apec+countertop). It's $229 and a bit more if you go for the UV filter. You can also get a re-mineralization filter that adds calcium.

It attaches to the end of a faucet with a bypass. We live in an apartment and they had no issues with us installing it. I don't think there's any all-in-one pitcher (like Brita) that will come close to most bottled waters.

APEC is pricey compared to pitchers, but the savings is worth it if your drinking something like Evian for 100% of your water.

The sitz bath is a bucket the goes on the toilet seat, it's filled with warm water & then a bag of water hangs with a tube that attaches to the bath that squirts the water into the bucket. It creates a swirling bath of warm water that the vulva sits in to sooth pain. You don't use this after a c-section.

I had 2 c-sections. A belly binder is a must, the hospital should provide one. They come in different sizes, so if the first one doesn't fit ask for another size. Put it on before standing up. Having 2 reusable gel ice packs is nice on the incision. If you can get them, cloth menstrual pads are way nicer to wear for 4-8 weeks than disposable pads (soft, breathable & less leaks). You can't use a menstrual cup postpartum even with a c-section. High waist underwear are great, low cuts bother my incision months later. A peri bottle isn't necessary with a c-section, but it's nice to not have to bend. They give you one at the hospital, but I prefer using a travel bidet with a bent neck like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O92IF6Q/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_.qo2AbE60N95N

Woder 10K-Gen3 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0144MFPOA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_IheFAb66V76ST

I use it with a dedicated faucet for the filtered water - not sure I'd be happy with the water pressure if it was hooked directly to my main faucet. But the water tastes great and while I haven't changed the filter yet, it looks really easy.

I'm pretty poor (lol) so my favorite "budget" HEPA filter is this Germ Guardian tower. The smaller one was perfect for a 1 bedroom apartment. We tried a cheap Honeywell before this one and it was SO NOISY.

For a water filter we have an under-sink filter (like this) and it is awesome! No more changing a filter every 3 months. And it does a really good job filtering our super hard well water.

u/fubka · 2 pointsr/washingtondc

I installed one. I also added a T adapter after the filter to go to the ice maker. I noticed a slight reduction in pressure. Mine says it was good for a full year and that is on the high side.

I've owned a couple by this brand - I disagree. These ones are a pain to clean and have parts that wear out much faster. They're also more prone to leaks due to the cheap plastic and gaskets they use internally.

This is the best one I've found thus far. It's not as "sit, shit, and forget" as the underseat ones, but in terms of cleaning and utility it's much better. Aesthetically it looks nicer, too.

If you're a womain, I'd reconsider the Luxe Bidet Neo 120 for the reason that it has only 1 sprayer for the booty but not the lady parts. The problem you run into as a lady is that you risk infection spraying all the poo upfront. If you're a guy, not too bad a problem. I recently switched over to a handheld bidet and I would not go back to an under the seat bidet. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CF51ZJ2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I like this because it is multi-functional and doesn't have just one task. Besides cleaning your parts with it, it comes in handy for cleaning the toilet too. My toilet is also right next to my shower, and it is super helpful in cleaning the shower, too. The only thing I find mildly annoying about it is that it is recommended that you turn off the water at the t-valve after every use just in case the sprayer springs a leak or something, but the simple adapter that comes with bidet makes this easy, you just have to remember to do it.

I think your best bet is a Reverse Osmosis system under the sink. Distilling water with a rig is tricky and probably wasteful if you're using cool water as a condenser. Also whatever is leftover has to be cleaned eventually with some strong acid (likely).

If you can't afford a RO system, try out just using the traditional Brita/Pur filters and see if it removes bad taste from your water. There is also a more expensive filter that does a better job than Brita/Pur called ZeroWater.

u/dont_judge_me_monkey · 1 pointr/CysticFibrosis

Are you taking about the pitchers that you put into the fridge? All they do is filter out impurities. I have brita which I'm pretty sure is just a carbon based filter. Just Google zero vs brita to see what each filters out

u/feelingproductive · 1 pointr/tea

I went through this just a couple weeks ago. I didn't want to install anything big since I'm just renting, so I was looking at pitchers and those charcoal sticks. I ended up going with the zerowater pitcher. It's a great pitcher! It has a 5 stage filter and it comes with a TDS (total dissolved solids) meter to determine when to change the filter, which I think is great. My tap water started at around 160 ppm (parts per million) and after filtering, was 0. Compared to my parents' Brita pitcher, this makes much tastier water and I think the Brita pitcher only brought the water down to about 35 ppm, while the zerowater people suggest changing the filter at 6 ppm. I'll probably let it slip a little bit past that as the filters are kinda pricey.

Anyway... in short, if you're looking for a pretty affordable option that's what I would suggest, but I'm sure there are better options for more money.

u/InSixFour · 1 pointr/HomeMaintenance

u/McFeely_Smackup · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

unless its' a relatively recent and modern valve column, I'd replace the whole thing...refit kit is under $15 and you basically have a new toilet.

That's really the best bet for stopping persistent leaks, the flapper matches the valve, and both are new.

u/dykerMidwest · 1 pointr/homeowners

The condensation is because of the back tank continuing to refill. Cold water in tank constantly 10 to 20 degrees cooler than the outside air forms condensation like a cold beer is wet on the outside and eventually that drips onto the floor forming a puddle like the little pool of water around your beer. It may be as simple as fixing the innards so it isn't filling constantly. Our toilets need a new seal flap inside every 5 years or so. Takes literally 2 minutes to replace. Cost is around 5 dollars.

It looks like the red thing in this item. I'd start with this. You need the one that fits your brand toilet. I'd go to local hardware store and with toilet brand and talecimsge of inside tank and outside toilet and ask the guy behind the counter which one you need to buy.

Also I noticed you have a water softening filter in there, you might want to just look at installing a real water softening solution, amazon has a nice one that would do a better job than just a single softening filter, especially because that filter is only rated at 2gpm

u/TheGremlyn · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

A whole house water filter can help a lot with the sediment, and if you use a charcoal block filter, it could be pretty decent water. The iron is a tough one if there really is a lot of iron in there. Might as well get it tested to find out, not that expensive from Ward Labs.

u/Trub_Maker · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

I think it's roughly every 3 months, but filters are cheap. It also depends how much water you use and how dirty your water is. I think if you have well water a lot of people uses a 3 filter system. u/rfkjunior · 1 pointr/CrohnsDisease

I bought a spray nozzle that just hooks to the side of the toilet -- it attaches to the water line between the wall and the tank. So glad I did it. Only downside is that it's just hooked up to the cold water, which doesn't bother me too much.

This is the one I bought, although there are cheaper versions:

Yes absolutely, you can install a bidet on a toilet.

There are two types of "after-market" bidets. The main kind looks like this:

http://www.amazon.com/LUXE-Bidet-Vi-110-Non-Electric-Mechanical/dp/B005IT4C6G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381937146&sr=8-1&keywords=bidet

These are great because they are automated for the most part, you just turn it on and adjust the pressure with the dial next to you.

The second type is actually called a douchette, or handheld bidet and looks like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Brondell-CSL-40-CleanSpa-Shattaf-Sprayer/dp/B00BEBFV08/ref=pd_sim_hi_7

I have a friend that installed this kind and likes it, but I prefer the first kind, because I don't have to hold it with my hand.

u/POTUS · 1 pointr/Showerthoughts

Just hose it out with one of these. Once you get used to it it's really very refreshing.

u/pfk505 · 1 pointr/bapcsalescanada

I agree, but you don't even need the full seat, just get one of these. Installs in 5 minutes and will change your life! I think I need that LED toilet light btw.

Sorry, I'm still too inexperienced to provide advice. I found a counter-top R.O. system for $250. If it lasts a year, that's $21 a month to avoid hauling water from elsewhere, or spend the time and resources experimenting with dropping the TDS. Compare the tap water in my comment above vs. Brita vs. this R.O. system:

Brita = pH7.0, ~710ppm TDS

R.O. = pH9.2, ~50ppm TDS

The Brita does almost nothing to TDS, but apparently removes some calcium carbonate. The high pH on the R.O. is likely not a concern because there's very little substance affecting the pH- adding anything will bring the water to that supplement's pH pretty quickly.

I've been happy with this. Had it for about 16 months.

I just had my last Baja Blast!

Back to drinking something that's free. Water + good filter.

With all that money we're saving I recommend this filter. https://www.amazon.com/APEC-Water-Countertop-Reverse-Osmosis/dp/B00IB14XDU/

Are you me? I've also invested in the portable bidet which has been amazing for the post coffee work dumps.

u/LickItAndSpreddit · 1 pointr/funny

A shattaf (hand bidet) can be very easily installed.

It's basically a sprayer attachment (like the kind on some kitchen sinks) that you plumb between the toilet water supply valve and the tank.

So the water supply will split between the tank (to fill it) and the shattaf, which usually has its own valve (to avoid leaks).

Here is one that seems OK (B grade on Fakespot) but more than I'd recommend spending if you aren't sure about incorporating this into your lifestyle.

You could always go the third-world route (like I was accustomed to) to get familiar with the practice (or even do it long-term), and use a pitcher/watering jug.

Why don't you install bidet in your home I just installed This

u/ElegantPiano · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

We have had this one for over 2 years and had no issues.

NTA, especially in regards to your son. I think it's more than reasonable to expect your SO/child to be wearing fresh underwear everyday, especially if your child is still learning to wipe their bottom.

I also used to use wet wipes and recently purchased a hand held bidet. It's honestly changed my life. Now I can spray clean and then just use a little tp to dry off. Just a recommendation if you're open to it! I've save a ton of money buying less wet wipes and can feel a bit better about not having to throw them away all the time.

I just installed a Nahla Pure 3 year filter under the kitchen sink. When i went to get the link for you, the price had gone from under 100 to 165, so i found this product-example instead. Makes the water taste sooooo much better.

A quick search found this

It has decent reviews. 10,000gal/$100 = $0.01/gal

Also looks like it has easy to install hoses, rather than a plumbed system.

For $180 you could get a commercial 3M filter system rated for about 35000gal. Honestly thats overkill.

EDIT: I see you are subletting. This system should simply screw in and out of your faucet. You can take it with you.

u/1bighack · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

This is what we currently use, installed 10 months ago, love it, we only use it for water and ice but it gets a lot of use. Installed and used many different filter systems over the years, this is my favorite. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0144MFPOA/ref=sspa_mw_detail_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/Bigfamei · 1 pointr/microgrowery

I use this one. Its been a solid so far. As a way to clear the cholorimines out of the city water. Also use it as drinking water.

That way I can have an idea when its failing.

When it does fail. Someone in my WOW guild is using this one. May move to it.

No problem.

>see if i have the space for it, thanks. Also worried about leaks too

There are some units that just have 1 multipart filter.

They don't filter as well but since you are starting with potable water, it's an option. The simple ones also have fewer connections to leak and don't dump water 'auto-cleaning' the filter, The one linked in my top comment uses about 4 gallons of water to auto-clean the filter for every gallon of drinking water it produces. But I'm guessing that's still an reduction of waste compared to using bottled water.

u/doctormink · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

I use a handheld one that lives outside the toilet because I had these kinds of concerns when looking at the ones with the spray inside the toilet. Because I'm aiming it, I can take care to direct the spray so that no cross-contamination occurs, as it were. I also picked one with a variety of extensions so that I could find an optimal length to maximize both hygiene and ergonomics.

u/Barefoot_J · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

Yes!

I've got a handheld one, it's awesome! Shower fresh after every poop!

This is the one I got.

You need one of these.

u/Depressaccount · 1 pointr/AskMen

These are easy:

RinseWorks - Aquaus 360 Patented Hand Held Bidet Sprayer - NSF cUPC Certified for Legal Installation - 2 Backflows - Dual Pressure Controls - StayFlex Hose - 3 to 11 Inch Spray reach - 3 Year Warranty https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CF51ZJ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_huIPDbJEWW4P2

Please don’t use wipes, they are horrible for plumbing no matter what the container says

u/lunarchef · 1 pointr/Parenting

I would recommend a bidet attachment instead of the cloth diaper specific sprayers. You can use it long after diapering is done. We have this one and are really happy with it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CF51ZJ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_r84QAbP7GRSNH

u/Viragoavocado · 1 pointr/ZeroWaste

I tried the Luxe Bidet Neo 120 as well and even the "1" was way too strong for me.

[The RinseWorks - Aquaus 360] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CF51ZJ2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) on the other hand has a great range of pressure and is also much more wieldy. I absolutely love it and I haven't used TP at home since I got it. Just watch out where you aim it...I definitely sprayed myself in the face during one very sleepy midnight pee.

u/e1ioan · 0 pointsr/bestof

I have this at home to help me, best thing ever.

u/quuxman · 0 pointsr/sanfrancisco

Boiling city water is really unnecessary, and although filter pitchers will improve taste, don't remove the worst things in city water. I'm really happy with the RO filter I've been using for over a year: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IB14XDU

u/AstarteHilzarie · 0 pointsr/LifeProTips

True, but you don't carry your wipes there, either. I've managed to avoid using public restrooms all but twice for two years, though.

Oh, actually, if you're really dedicated to the cause they do make portable bidets but I don't think I would tote one around with me unless I had some kind of medical condition that made it worthwhile.

u/princehal · 0 pointsr/AdviceAnimals

My life has changed completely with my Ass Blaster2000. I have, rather than a bidet, a sprayer (shattaf -- the best named thing ever), my toilet is right across from my sink (which the AssBlaster 2000 attaches to). I sit down to do my business, adjust the water temperature to a nice warm setting, let my asshole do it's duty, flip the little lever and spray down the butt-crack. The warm water, the almost erotic anal massage (good water pressure), a few dabs with TP to dry and I AM CLEAN.

My AssBlaster 2000 changed my life. The 'roids never ever get super bad anymore. It's like a sink sprayer, so can be used to wash out diapers too after sex play. Or what ever people use diapers for.

Seriously, I cannot imagine life with-out one. I use a washlet squirt bottle at work. Sometimes I spray down the ass between sets, just to freshen up.

Do it. Seriously, just try one. You dirty dirty boy.
