/r/wicked_edge has lots of great advice. I'll boil a lot of it down for you though..

  1. Stop using the 17-bladed nuclear-powered vibrating cartridge monsters with extra lubricating strip and kung-fu grip. Similarly, no electric shavers. They're really electric hair-ripper-outers. Not kidding. Kick it old school, like your grandfather. Look at a double-edge safety razor, or if you're really looking to go all-in, consider a straight razor.

  2. Think about your shaving cream. Does it come out of a can using aerosol? Maybe rethink that too then. Plenty of options out there that don't involve chemical-laden aerosol-propelled goo. You can even really turn the clock back with a cup/bowl/mug and brush setup to whip up a nice lather. I'm a fan of Taylor of Old Bond Street. But, I've also used DR Harris products, and they're quite nice as well. One of the side benefits of my former job was all the trips to London, so I could just stop into the ToBS shop on Jermyn Street. Sadly, those days are past, so I rely on the kindness of co-workers that still go over. :) It's easy enough to get their products in the US, it just costs a bit more.

  3. If you go the DE route, get a sample pack of different blades. Different blades work differently on different guys. For me, Derby blades are death. For others, they're amazing. For me, I work well with Astra, or can manage Feathers if I'm really careful (they're super sharp). My best blade though, has been a Personna medical prep blade.

  4. Shave in passes. Do a with-the-grain pass, followed by an across-the-grain pass. If you're really not there yet, you can add an against-the-grain pass, but that's a pretty advanced move. Remember - you're doing multiple passes. You don't need to remove every bit of hair the first pass. You don't press the razor into your face (as you're probably used to!). This razor has heft, and a blade that's really sharp. You're accustomed to a lightweight razor that has blades that are as dull as a hunk of cardboard compared to your garden variety DE blade.

  5. Use a quality aftershave. Try to avoid ones that contain alcohol, as it dries out the skin. I love the Nivea sensitive skin stuff. I can get it for way cheaper than that link shows at Walgreens, Target or Wegmans though.

Many folks will try to sell you on the economics here, and how much money you'll save by shaving this way. While possible, it's not necessarily so. One can go bonkers and spend hundreds on the best gear if they wish. BUT, you don't have to.

For me, I use a $30 brush from whippeddog.com with a $5 mug from Target. My cream (ToBS Jermyn St) runs about $15 a tub, which lasts me probably 6-9 months. My daily shaver is a $30 Edwin Jagger, and my blades run about $30 for a 100-pack. I get 2-3 shaves from each blade.

If you run the numbers, you'll likely come out ahead by going to DE, get better shaves, and have better skin as well. It sure was cheaper for me. I used to go through a cartridge a week. So, that's 4 carts a month. I was spending $30-ish every other month on 8-packs of cartridges, or about $3.75 per week. Nowadays, that's 2 blades a week, at ~$0.30/blade, that's $0.60/week in blades. That's a massive savings alone.

You can do the ROI analysis for yourself. Take into account what you'd spend on shaving supplies, and calculate at which points the cost lines cross (ie break-even).

Seriously. Pubic hair comes in so many types, like head hair, that it needs a separate sub or forum or something.

“Ooh, I just condition, shave and rub deodorant on the area.” Cool, cool, glad that works for you. I’ve tried so many things, each for months on end, and nothing works. Shaving, trimming, plucking each hair out with tweezers, home waxing (practiced elsewhere first), rolling hair remover, and at this point I could pull it out with my hands if I wanted.

Doing these results in ingrown hair...not doing something about it also results in ingrown hair. Tried conditioner, oil, hair masque, deodorant, etc; my hair grows sharp and can grow back in towards my skin, yet also grows straight and randomly bends in zig-zag patterns, making sure I know it’ll never be cute. I have so many scars. It scars sometimes just from being removed. It’s Type 666. It’s Satan manifested as pubic hair.

Again, pubic hair is as diverse as head hair, but there’s more misconceptions that’ll likely end in dangerous ingrowns or yeast infections or whatever. Pubic hair needs its own “beauty care” guidebook.

Sorry /rant

You can also use Magic Shave. It's basically Nair but marketed towards black men.

u/sassybeeee · 60 pointsr/Instagramreality

I’m not OP but I use an eyebrow razor (like this one) to shave off my peach fuzz and I find that it grows back really soft. I shave it maybe once a month!

u/[deleted] · 57 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Buy yourself a safety razor. It will make you feel like a man, save you money on razors (blades are cheaper than disposables, even if you get the good ones and it makes your morning classy.

u/scatmanbynight · 52 pointsr/pics

Well, don't count on it staying like that. I was about what you have at 18. Now, at 26, I have thick hair on the chest and, unfortunately, back hair. If you ever are unfortunate enough to be cursed with back hair, do not fret, just buy a mangroomer.

I've embraced the hairy chest, arms, legs, etc.. I've ended flings with girls who asked me to shave my chest. It's not happening. Don't have the time, nor the desire to keep it up. Some girls love it though. Can't win them all.

Good luck, fellow woolly mammoth.

u/redchai · 50 pointsr/puppy101

Very important lesson for any owner of a dog with non-shedding coat. Even if you opt to keep your dog's hair short, (which I do), brushing keeps their skin healthy, it helps them stay comfortable with handling, and it's an opportunity to check them for any injuries, infections, etc. Don't forget to check between the toes! Even though we have Ramses' paws shaved, the hairs between his toe pads obviously stay a little longer, and if he steps in something sticky it's a guaranteed mat, which can irritate the skin pretty quickly. Eyebrow razors work great for gently removing mats from tricky-to-access areas (this process requires many treats).

u/MrNerd82 · 41 pointsr/confession

Started losing my hair in college -- don't waste money on pills, creams or surgery.

Spend $50 on this:
https://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Professional-Balding-Clipper-8110/dp/B000VVT94G/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492529420&sr=8-1&keywords=bald+trimmer

Wahl Bald Trimmer -- best damn money spent... (and in the long run you save tons of money on haircuts) It's quality, built like a tank, cuts fast, close, clean, and safe. Shaving works too but it's time consuming (IMO) this does 98% of the work in a minute or two. I give myself a buzz up top every two weeks usually.

Seriously - you are worried about it now, but just imagine being one of those guys who thinks he's being sneaky and trying for a comb over.

Just own it, it's who you are. If a girl doesn't give you the time of day because you are smooth n' sexy up top... to hell with her. I can't read womens minds, but I'd be willing to bet 99% of them don't actually care.

Rock that shit -- i certainly do:

I HIGHLY recommend the spring type hair removers to anyone with chin hair https://www.amazon.com/R-Spring-Facial-Hair-Remover/dp/B001FXUTUM

I'm horrible at tweezing and always end up accidentally picking at my skin and leaving scars, and those totally prevent that

u/Marilize_Legajuanaa · 27 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Thank you! I love the primer but i want to experiemt with new things. The makeup artists i follow reccomend the nivea after shave balm as a primer. i realllly want to try it. The mac has lasted me ages! I still have quite a bit left after using it for months

u/UghRaven · 25 pointsr/Makeup

I've been using the following razors from Amazon for roughly two years. I replace them every month or so. They work great and my makeup application is much better because I use these.

Dude if you like Astra blades you should check out Feather blades. They are super sharp and give a really nice shave.

u/accostedbyhippies · 21 pointsr/malefashionadvice

As low as I can get it without going full shave. I invested in an Oster classic 76 8 years ago. Slap a 00 on there and give myself a cut every two weeks. Low maintenance, fast and free.

u/Magnets_is_magic · 17 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Oster 76 Classic is a good option. It's a workhorse that's been around for some time and can be rebuilt if it ever wears out.

u/ClapHandshake · 16 pointsr/actuallesbians

I can't stand shaving bare personally, it feels nice for like half an hour and then turns into an itchy stubbly mess. For me using an electric trimmer gets me nice, clean, uniformly trimmed pubes with minimum effort.

My whole lezbro crew swears by this cheap Schick electric trimmer that you can pick up for $10-15 at most drug stores.

They also have it in black / blue / silver next to the dude's razors if you don't want it in "HEY EVERYONE DID YOU KNOW I HAVE TITS" pink.

Basically my routine is:

  • Exfoliate your bits in the shower (I just gently scrub with a washcloth).
  • Let dry completely (a hair dryer on cool can help here), then grab the trimmer.
  • Ignore the standard cartridge razor end.
  • Set the guard on the trimmer end to your preference (might wanna start with the longest setting and see how you like it, then redo on a shorter guard if you need).
  • Turn trimmer on and go to town. Can't really hurt yourself with this thing. Just comb it through the hair repeatedly until it's trimmed. Take extra care to get the hairs right where your thigh meets your groin as these can be easily missed. You'll need to shake / blow hair out of the trimmer every now and then, especially if you're starting with a full bush.
  • Once everything's nice and trimmed, I like to pop in the shower again and just wash one more time to rinse away any loose hairs. I also like to apply some conditioner like you do on your head to soften the hair (I dunno if this actually does anything tbh, but I figure it won't hurt).
  • Dry again, powder the groin area to keep everything nice and dry throughout the day (I like Lush's silky underwear dusting powder but pretty sure it's just nicely scented talc).
  • That's it! Woohoo!

You might miss a few hairs, if so no big deal. You'll probably catch them next time you trim, and if you don't wanna wait you can use a pair of scissors or tweezers to get the offenders.

You might be able to get a nicer experience with a more expensive bikini trimmer, but none of us have ever felt the need to upgrade. This thing is cheap as hell, and mine has been ticking for like 3 years (I do take it apart every few months and clean / oil the blades).

    Good luck!

u/IntrepidBeachcomber · 14 pointsr/AskWomenOver30

I don't have thick/coarse facial and body hair so experiences may vary, but after reading the NYT article on women shaving their faces, I got curious and tried it myself, and I love the results. Twice a month I use a BIC single blade and run it over my face and body wet with water (no soap, just water; I don't want a too close of a shave). Hair grows back thin and soft and I could probably get away with doing it once a month, but the exfoliation is amazing and it makes my skin look very good. Plus I enjoy the ritual, I put on 80s music and sing along in front of the mirror while I do my face, ha ha.

Little razors made specifically for facial shaving are available. Tinkle is a famous brand.

u/HeathenForAllSeasons · 13 pointsr/ottawa

Don't buy Conair anything.

I shaved my head weekly for more than 10 years (for maintenance purposes and a consistent appearance). Over that time I made the mistake of buying multiple Conair clippers at different price points and was disappointed every time. They pull, take bites out of your skin and wear out quickly.

Get these. Mine held up for 3 years of weekly use. For what it's worth, they still work well, I just grew my hair out.

u/randomlurker2123 · 13 pointsr/lifehacks

Issue with BakBlade is that it's still disposable blades, you can only use them for so long, and if you have sensitive skin it will absolutely give you razor burn or ingrown hairs. Check out The Mangroomer

u/qpid · 12 pointsr/wicked_edge

My $.02 (For ease of use everything is linked to Amazon, prices will vary)

Razor: Merkur 180, $32

Brush: Escali 100% Pure Badger, $14

Shaving Cream: Proraso, $11

Blades: Sampler Pack, $20

And then that leaves ~$20 to play with to buy a a nice book on shaving, or a shaving stand, or some aftershave

u/ghostofpennwast · 12 pointsr/gaybros

Basically almost everyone uses a cartridge razor. Lots of people even use ones that have 3, 4, or even 5 blades.

Edit: here is a 6 blade razor... http://www.amazon.com/Dorco-Plus-Blade-System-Trimmer/dp/B008O82O7C#Ask

u/CoffeeFox · 12 pointsr/AdviceAnimals

Cartridge blades maybe. This kind are 71 cents a blade, and that's a premium brand.

u/core_dumpd · 11 pointsr/todayilearned

Wahl Balding Clipper - pretty close to razor, but less blood and gore.

u/sailorchickenstrips · 11 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I do it once a week, sometimes less, for over a year. Great results! My skin has such a nice glow compared to before I started, which admittedly may have something to do with the fact that my products seem to absorb so much better. I use these eyebrow razors instead of a regular razor. I think someone one here on /r/SkincareAddiction recommended them, and I fell in love. For tips on technique, there are tons of YouTube videos or feel free to PM me :)

By the way, I have went a month or more without shaving my face, and it was totally unnoticeable. My facial hair grows in as the same light colored peach fuzz it has always been. It comes back soft, not stubbly, which I was really relieved to discover. One thing though: I skip shaving my upper lip because I am blessed with a thicker lady mustache that I prefer to have threaded. I assume it would grow back in similar to the rest of my facial hair if I shaved it, but I prefer not to take the risk.

TLDR: try it, you'll love it!

u/Zbignich · 11 pointsr/explainlikeimfive

Don't be that guy, get an Ultimate Pro Back Shaver with 2 Shock Absorber Flex Heads, Power Hinge, Extreme Reach Handle and Power Burst. Disclaimer: not associated in any way with the product or that guy.

u/ballookey · 11 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Tinkle eyebrow razors. They're six for $5, use one every two weeks.

I have blonde hair and always felt conflicted about my "peach fuzz" face because on the one hand I thought that's not another thing women should have to worry about shaving, but at the same time even though mine is very light, it bothered me.

Finally saw those razors recommended, and I'm happy with the results. It doesn't remove every bit of hair, but trims it very close, very quickly, and very economically. It doesn't have any negative side effects when growing out. Just about two weeks later I decide to do it again.

Makeup sits much more nicely on my face.

u/monicamarie798 · 10 pointsr/VeganBeauty

Not sure about the wax BUT can I just say... I've tried everything under the sun for my upper lip since I was about 12. Now I just shave it with these little razors. And no it doesn't grow back thicker or any of the other lies you've heard, I promise. So much cheaper and less painful than waxing.

u/beholdkrakatow · 10 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Ive ordered these before. They are much wider.

u/cartoonhead · 10 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Wahl Professional 8110 5-star Series Balding Clipper

I've have many sets of clippers over the years and these are by far the best I have owned. You can pay much more for professional clippers but for the price you can't beat them. Might need to get an additional set of guides if the few they come with don't work.

u/IvetteAramis · 10 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I use a [similar] (https://www.amazon.com/R-E-M-Spring-Facial-Hair-Remover/dp/B001FXUTUM) upper lip hair remover every few days to quickly remove a wider area of hairs and then once a week take time with a magnified mirror and good lighting to tweeze away any survivors. Tweezing at first does hurt but you get used to it the more you do it and now I don't even feel any pain. I think I tried waxing once and it was very unpleasant and I still had to tweeze afterwards. Your makeup looks very pretty otherwise.

Got the Oster Classic 76 Professional Hair Clipper years ago with 000, #2 and 3 1/2 blades. Have cut my hair ever since and haven't needed to sharpen them yet.

u/Toufles · 9 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I am sorry you experienced that, sometimes people are just cruel. Hopefully they'll grow up a bit and realize having hair on your upper lip pretty much means nothing other than you're a mammal. I have a mustache too, and with my dark hair and light skin it can be pretty visible.

I have tried to wax it a few times but broke out horribly each time. My skin is pretty sensitive. At this point I think I am going to get a facial trimmer...I have been looking at this one as it has pretty good reviews and is on sale for $9.99. I wish I had a better answer, but you're definitely not alone...don't be down on yourself about having perfectly normal hair, but I hope you find a solution that helps you feel better.

If you do run into them again I would do your best to not look phased even if you are, don't feed the trolls as they say. The things they are saying speak volumes about them and very little about you.

u/CheapWhiskeytoo · 9 pointsr/wicked_edge

Many people like Nivea's Sensitive Post Shave Balm. Here is a four pack on Amazon, but you can also pick up ind individual bottles at just about any drug store for around $5.

u/sprocky · 9 pointsr/tretinoin

I use a spring like this. Works great.

u/MyWifesBusty · 9 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I have no idea if it would work with your particular hair, but I "de-fuzz" my wife's face using this: REM Spring Facial Hair Remover.

It hurts like a bitch but it works really well. It takes some trial and error to get good at using it but now that I've got it down I can remove all the fuzz in about 5 minutes or so.

1. Aveda Botanical Kinetics™ Hydrating Lotion - Face lotion, applied to face and mustache after shower.

2. Musgo Real Glycerine Lime Soap, MR GLO - Face soap, used before each shave.

3. Proraso Shaving Soap with Eucalyptus Oil and Menthol - Shave soap, whipped up then applied to face for shaving.

4. Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream - Pre/Post shave cream, massaged into face after washing face with MR GLO. Massaged into face again after shave.

5. Proraso Aftershave Lotion - Aftershave, applied to face either after shave or after shower. My wife likes the smell of this.

7. Colonel Conk Evernice Model 775 Chrome Safety Razor Stand - Stand, holds DE razor and brush.

8. Merkur Model 180 Long Handled Safety Razor - DE Razor, great weight and balance used to shave face.

9. Tweezerman Men's Shaving Brush - So, so brush used for applying shave soap. Would like a better brush someday.

10. Feather Hi-Stainless Platinum Double Edge Razor Blades - Razors for DE, my favorite so far.

11. Tweezerman His Moustache Scissors with Comb - Scissors and comb, after movember I decided to keep the mustache so these items help maintain its appearance.

12. Comb - Comb, used for combing hair before and after shower.

13. Aveda Men Pure-Formance™ Grooming Clay - Hair product, used after shower with hair wet or dry. Hair looks natural but styled. I'll use pomade if I want the appearance of having a more polished look.

14. Large Stainless Steel Shaving Soap Bowl from Super Safety Razors - Mug, I'd rather have a porcelain mug for class but this does the trick. I use it to soak my brush and razor before each shave. I also use it for creams when not using Proraso.

u/quizonyourface · 8 pointsr/sex

Trimmed/shaved my wife's pussy for her, and she loved it. She normally uses an electric trimmer to keep things neat, but she never gets it really short and says it's because she can't see/feel well enough what she's doing.

This week I told her straight up that I wanted to use the trimmer for her. She was a little skittish about it, but I reassured her I'd be super careful, and she decided to let me give it a try.

I was ultra careful and worked hard to not tickle her (and of course also not cut her), and was able to get basically all the hair off her lips right down to the skin, almost like a real shave. I left the front landing-strip area intact, but cleaned the lips up real nice. Giving her oral this week has been wonderful (Yum!) and she's made multiple comments about how weird/fun it feels to her just walking around.

Last night she even mentioned that I "didn't quite finish the job" with the trimmer, which I think might mean that she wants me to just shave off everything and leave her completely bare. That would be a first, too.

Magic Shave cream and a scraper is what I use to remove hair. It doesn't burn or irritate my skin and because it is made for facial hair it hasn't bothered my boi-pussy. It leaves my hole and taint area totally hairless and smooth.

I have also done some anal bleaching which has lightened my hole and I think made it a lot cuter.

Thanks to this subreddit, I've found Nivea For Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm -- this is the secret to a good shave that doesn't leave stubble or shadow, because it plumps up the skin past the cut hairs. It was hard to find 3 months ago, because women made the discovery that their "makeup primer" had the same ingredients as this aftershave balm but the men's stuff was 1/3 the price. I hope this helps!

I also have dry sensitive skin. I use Nivea Post Shave Balm and it works wonders. I went with Nivea because it was cheap on Amazon and I had a gift card that I had to use up. Your skin will definitely thank you later for using some kind of moisturizing aftershave. Be sure to buy something without alcohol in it because that will dry out your skin even further.

I tried dollar shave club and went back to Gillette. Better razors, better shave. I just bought an 18 month supply at once and it was just as cheap but better quality.

I understand the idea of getting something in the mail saving you a trip to the store - but I don't get EVERYTHING in the mail, so picking up razors when I am at Target is not a bridge too far.

Not to mention if you google it, you will see dollar shave club is just using blades (I think Korean) that they buy wholesale and repackage. You can order the exact same blades on the internet for a fraction of what you pay dollar shave club. Nobody bought them before because who buys not that great korean blades?

I love this look!! I definitely think men shouldn't be afraid to experiment in makeup, even if it's just natural makeup as opposed to "full glam". Other people have already said this but I recommend brushing through your brows with a spoolie and maybe a clear brow gel (my favorite is the brow/mascara duo from elf, it's like $2 and the clear mascara is actually really nice as well). You can also try cleaning up some of the lighter, angled hairs (hopefully you know what I'm talking about) on the tops of your brows with a small eyebrow razor. They're more forgiving than tweezers (hair grows back faster) and way less painful. I use these ones and they're awesome. Your arches already really nice so I don't think you need to clean up under them. :) hope this helps!

u/TA_DL · 6 pointsr/ABDL

I'd say it's a bad idea. The results aren't any better than using a razor (for me at least) and you risk really burning your skin.

I like using a Philips Bodygroom electric shaver which is designed for "shaving below the neck" - i.e. it's specifically designed for shaving your balls. It's got two types of blade on the one head, a sort of comb bit and then a foil bit; the combs cut longer hair and then the foil trims right down to the skin. Used in the shower with shaving gel, it gives you a super close shave, and I find that it irritates the skin way less than any other technique (other than waxing, but that's something I'd only ever do at a salon, and not by myself at home).

I shave and absolutely love it! I just pick up these from Amazon and throw one in my purse, my toiletry bag, my makeup bag, and then one at work because my hair has a mind of its own.

I've found that it helps my skin stay healthy and happy because the razor also helps by removing a small number of dead skin cells.

My suggestion for using the small razors is after you take a shower, apply a creamy face cleanser or lotion to your chin/neck/cheeks and then take the blade down the areas with grain of the hair. This will prevent you from getting razor burn and ingrown hairs.

u/pamsabear · 6 pointsr/JUSTNOMIL

OK...here we go :D

I'm going to preface what you're about to read with this caveat: My knowledge of aftershaves is somewhat limited. I've tried and used a handful myself, and know what I would recommend out of those, but I'll also recommend a few others based on what I know of their makers. I'll try to make very clear which is which.

Based on the recommendations of this subreddit, I recently bought an Ooster Classic 76 and could not be more pleased with it. Not only is it sturdy, but it goes through hair like nothing else. Granted, I got it for shaving my head, but it can use a bunch of different blades PLUS any guards you need to use. For example, I got a normal (2?) blade, but you can replace it with this should you desire. I would assume it shaves close. Anyway, Ooster makes an amazing shaver, one I assume I will have for many years to come.

EDIT: If one were to compare shavers to cars, this would be a classic chevy truck. It's heavy, it's bulky, it smells of grease (seriously), but it drives through anything, the Wahl would be likened to a Pinto. Yes they work, but one hiccup and they stop working.

u/shewh0mustnotbenamed · 5 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I'm loving my Panasonic Facial Trimmer. No cuts, ingrown hairs or PIH! It's way gentler than tweezing.

I bought Benton High Content Snail Bee Skin, Lotion and Mask Packs. The Skin and Mask Packs are long-time favs and the Lotion is a new addition. The Skin and Lotion were a steal - $9 for 5 oz on Amazon Prime. Yay for snail-y, niacinamide-filled goodness!

In the beginning of the month, I started Curology (4% Azelaic Acid | 1% Clindamycin | 4% Niacinamide). I'll replace niacinamide with tretinoin soon - my provider is being cautious and tons of my skincare includes niacinamide. I switched from generic tretinoin gel 0.01% to Curology to avoid drying alcohol and try azelaic acid (for acne and PIH). So far so good!

I'm on a quest to find fragrance-free, low pH (goal: pH 5.5) body washes. I want to snag CeraVe Hydrating Body Wash or Aquaphor Gentle Body Wash as soon as I find them in a brick-and-mortar store. Here's a list I've compiled with * next to ones I've tried:

Actually, on this sub i think you're talking about: Nivea for Men Sensitive After Shave Extra Soothing Balm, 3.3 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0014E2Q8K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fDECxbAXFKB5Z. Nivea creams/soaps aren't talked about as much.

If you're looking for something simple, try a shave oil like Shave Secret. It's cheap, and all you have to do is rub a few drops onto your wet face and you're good to go. I use this when i shave at the gym, for instance.

Hope this helps.

u/pinkythereddog · 5 pointsr/malegrooming

Have you thought about making the switch to a safety razor? As /u/Slayman420 said, head on over to /r/wicked_edge and read a few of the threads and side bar. Best thing I've ever done to move away from cartridge razors and my skin is looking better too.

Make sure your prepping your face well by either shaving after a nice hot shower or washing your face first with your Cetaphil and hot water. If you're not into moving to a safety razor, maybe look into getting better soap using a shaving brush and a good shaving soap. Learn how to lather it well and you'll notice a huge difference with that alone.

Usually when I shave I do three passes: one with the grain, one across the grain (literally going horizontal on the face) and then if I need it, going against the grain. Don't press hard with the razor. Let it glide over your face.

Post shave, I wash my face with cold water then use a post shave balm.

Hope that helps!

I use Tinkle Eyebrow razors for upper lip hair (http://www.amazon.com/Tinkle-Eyebrow-Razor/dp/B002C89J96). I usually only have to use it ever week or so. I've heard of people using them all over their face for any peach fuzz, but I just use it on my upper lip. I do have a few chin hairs that randomly come in lol but I'll usually pluck those since they don't grow in that often. You can use the razor for those too if you need to! I browsed /r/wicked_edge for a bit before diving in. Their FAQ should be a good place to get you started.

I've improved my pre- and post-shave routines as well as using a brush and non-canned shaving cream. Anecdotally, the learning curve wasn't very steep for me (a few nicks and cuts starting out) and I'm noticing that my issues with sensitive skin and ingrown hairs are resolving.

Your start-up costs may seem a little steep, but you can find some deals or cheaper gear and upgrade later. The fact that I actually enjoy shaving and feel better after doing it more than makes up for the initial purchase.

I started with the following:

This is going to sound bizarre, but shave your face! It's what I do, and after suffering through waxing and threading and enduring minor chemical burns from Nair, shaving is what I recommend 100%. DON'T use the kind of razor you'd use on your legs - use a facial razor, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Tinkle-Eyebrow-Razor/dp/B002C89J96/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416125575&sr=8-1&keywords=facial+razor&pebp=1416125577687. It's really easy to learn how to use (there are tons of tutorials on YouTube), and for me, I only have to do it once every two to three weeks (I don't mind minor hair growth on my face - I just don't like a full-on beard). You can shave dry, but I find that my skin is happier when I shave with some jojoba oil. It works like a charm, and it takes no more than 2 minutes. Couldn't recommend enough!

u/SuddenlyALampPost · 4 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I used to have an electric trimmer something like this, and that worked okay but then I lost it during a move. I bought some 'eyebrow razors' and use that just for the center part of my nose with some baby oil, and a small scissors for further inside. I do it about once every week or so.

Cant help if you're looking to actually remove the hair by its root, as I've never done that before. Sounds too painful for me.

u/BrivModan · 4 pointsr/malegrooming

I bought the BG2020 a few months ago and it is doing a pretty good job for the exact same use case you have. The addition of the foil shaver to the head makes it really good for the crotch. Can get down really close and I've had no ingrowns down there which would suck. Look on amazon i foung the BG2028 which i assume would be an upgrade over my version given the higher number. Seems to be reviewed better as well. It also lands in the same price range as the two you posted.

u/JoyfulStingray · 4 pointsr/AskWomen

Razors - A lot of women actually use men's razors for legs and underarms. This is what I use! They are less expensive and do the same exact job. No need to pay the pink tax. Personally, I use these

Moisturizer - I use Aveeno lotions. I can't handle smells and Aveeno is usually scentless.

Nail care - I am currently trying to take better care of my nails so they don't CHIP ALL THE TIME. Cuticle butter at night, and cuticle oil alllll throughout the day.

Eyebrow care - I have very bushy brows. Even though a bold brow is in right now, if I let mine go natural, it is like 2 fuzzy caterpillars on my brow bone. Get a more expensive pair of tweezers, trust me. The cheap ones will struggle grasping the hairs. Eyebrow razors to get the edges and help trim everything up]

Face wash - I have really good skin - super lucky, I know. I just use a gentle face wash and that is it.

u/Weezite · 4 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I had this issue for a long time. I tried a bunch of products that worked for awhile (like Tend Skin, which worked but really dried out my face) but never found anything long lasting. I tried DE shaving and while that helped, it was a negligible difference and very time consuming to lather a soap. I finally found a routine that worked out well for me.

I use a combination of Dollar Shave Club products, Alum, and a Shaveworks gel. Heres what I do:

1.) I take a shower and while I'm in the shower I use a face wash from DSC. https://www.dollarshaveclub.com/our-products/clean/daily-face-cleanser

2.) After I'm done washing my face, I exfoliate my face using a DSC prep scrub. https://www.dollarshaveclub.com/our-products/shave/prep-scrub

3.) After I get out of the shower, I pat my face dry with a clean towel and rub on 4 pumps of DSC shave oil. I let it soak into my face for like 15 seconds or so. https://www.dollarshaveclub.com/our-products/shave/pre-shave-oil

4.) I use DSC shave butter on my face and neck. I use a good amount of it. I let it soak on my face for like 15 seconds. https://www.dollarshaveclub.com/our-products/shave/shave-butter

5.) I shave and I'm very careful about the direction in which I shave in. There's some areas of my face and neck that never get irritated so I can go against the grain there to get a closer shave. There's other areas that I have to be careful with because they're super sensitive (Like under the corners of my mouth). As for a blade, I'm subscribed to Harry's and I'm very happy with them. I tried DSC before but I found their blades and handles to be cheap and that the blades got dull faster.

6.) After I'm done shaving a splash cold water on my face and Pat dry with a clean towel. I then run warm water over an alum block and rub it all over my face. I let my face dry after I rub the alum block on it (like 2-3 minutes or so), rinse my face with cold water, and pat dry with a clean towel. https://www.amazon.com/Gentleman-Jon-Ounce-Block-Plastic/dp/B00FA35K02/ref=sr_ph_1_s_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1478815659&sr=sr-1&keywords=alum+block

7.) This is the key step for me. I found this product like a month ago and I don't have as many issues with redness or ingrown hairs at all anymore. I use Shaveworks The Cool Fix on my face after every shave. I actually use it after I wash my face every morning and night. I love the way it makes my face feel and it keeps my face very clean. If nothing else, try this out. https://www.amazon.com/Shaveworks-Cool-Fix-5-3-oz/dp/B002UVU7HS/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1478815819&sr=1-1&keywords=shaveworks%2Bthe%2Bcool%2Bfix&th=1

8.) After the Shaveworks dries, I put on DSC after shave balm. https://www.dollarshaveclub.com/our-products/shave/post-shave

9.) Then after the after shave balm dries, I put on DSC facial moisturizer that has SPF in it. Love this stuff too. https://www.dollarshaveclub.com/our-products/protect/face-moisturizer

I know this is a ton of steps and a ton of different products, but I had issues VERY similar to yours for years and it really sucked. My face was constantly irritated. But through trial and error, I was able to find this routine and it's been great for me. Hopefully it'll help you.

So first thing: you definitely shouldn't feel gross about having a lady 'stash OR asking about how to deal with it. A LOT of the lovely ladies here deal with facial hair in varying degrees.
Second thing: Being one of those ladies, I use a similar razor to this one, and it works well. Not a long lasting solution, but it's not at all irritating.

u/spunky-omelette · 4 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I have PCOS, pale pale skin and dark brown hair. For a long time I was using Sally Hansen's bleach cream and hated it - it tingled, itched, and smelled bad. :( Plus with your skin tone, the hairs might look strange bleached because they turn blonde. (Skincare confession: I was also using it on my FULL ARMS and it was so horrible please never do this to yourself. And I may or may not have tried lemon juice in my desperation too.)

I use a Panasonic trimmer every Saturday just to clean up the fuzz, and it works pretty well. I just make sure to keep the blade clean and rinse my face afterwards.

u/qqq1wwweeerrrtttyyy · 4 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

This same thing used to happen to me! I have super sensitive skin and I had to stop waxing/threading because of it.

I use the facial trimmer for my upper lip and have no irritation from it and its virtually free after I bought the trimmer. I have this one from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009DT39C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_zDoBCbVTW01R8.

For my eyebrows, I tried waxing and threading and would get little pimples all over the eyebrow area for 2 weeks after. I switched to strictly tweezers and that stopped the issue.

Good luck! Hope this helps !

I shave about twice a week. I do a two step process:

  1. I will use Wahl balding to buzz off my hair.

  2. I use hair conditioner as shaving cream, lather on thick.

  3. I use my wife's Venus 5 blade razor to shave. You'll learn what way the grain of your head is. You'll also get a feel (using your hand/fingers) for when your head is smooth.
  4. Clean up the mess I've made in the bathroom.
  5. Jump in the shower and get cleaned up
u/2Cuil4School · 4 pointsr/AskReddit

I possess extremely long, extremely thick, extremely coarse, extremely curly hair. Think somewhere between Claudio Sanchez of Coheed & Cambria and the fat guy from Lost except halfway down by back.

Every day, I shower. When I do so, I wet my hair then rub it down with a cedarwood/rosemary shampoo bar (solid-form shampoo composed mostly of saponified shea butter and jojoba oil without any natural-oil-stripping sulfates) and lather it up. I let it sit for awhile, then rinse. After that, I apply a thick coat of dandruff-defense conditioner (liquid form) and let that stand while I wash my body (with a fancy loofa and a really nice bar of cold-pressed, natural soap called "Desert Sands"). I rinse the conditioner out, wring most of the water out of my hair, and then step out of the tub.

I apply a mist of leave-in spray condtioner and let it stand while I shave (using a variety of natural shaving soaps and/or creams with a badger hair brush, a German safety razor, and a number of facial care products including an alum block, witch hazel splash, and moisturizer) and brush my teeth. I finally run a large brush (with scalp-protecting beads on the bristles and a malleable backing to allow it to shape itself to the contours of my head as I brush) through my hair until there are no more knots or tuggy spots..

On work days, I'll throw on my shirt, pull my hair back, then brush it back into a ponytail that I'll hold up with a hairtie. Otherwise I let it airdry into a gloriously fluffy, unbelievably soft, and delicious-smelling mane that encircles my entire head and neck and draws the eye of every woman I pass.

Trimmers I've owned:

Wahl All-in-One 9854-600

Pros: powerful clippers with a very long battery life. Suitable for all types of body hair grooming.

Cons: Only one guard that I consider suitable for stubble length and I'd prefer more options on that front. Not waterproof.

Trym II

Pros: Charging stand and sleek look allows you to keep it in plain sight on your bathroom counter without the counter appearing cluttered.

Cons: Fewer guard options than the Wahl, and seemed less powerful, although for the purposes of trimming stubble it seemed minimally sufficient.

Trimmers I'd consider if I were in the market right now:

Something more premium: Philips Norelco Beard trimmer Series 7200

Philips is generally at the top of the list for reviews of beard trimmers, and the dedicated beard trimmer gives you more options for stubble length. Lastly, after a couple years of maintaining stubble-length growth, I can now see why the vacuum feature would be desirable. Trimming down to stubble is messy business.

Something affordable, yet highly rated and with more options for stubble length: Wahl Beard Trimmer

I have, on occasion, wished I had more versatility in choosing a stubble length (a little longer or just a tad shorter - depending). A dedicated beard trimmer that doesn't break the bank would be a good starting point on that front.

u/kitsukidd · 3 pointsr/gaybros

I tried Magic Shaving Cream this week. My bum has never so hairless until now. Basically I left it on for about 10 minutes and hopped in the shower and rinsed. It took off mostly everything and I just went over everything with a razor really carefully. And be careful if you have sensitive skin. I got a slight cooling effect from it but it didn't really affect me as much.

Here is some advice I wrote about in the past when asked a similar question, edited the part in bold that deal with time of posession

> Oster 76 requires alot of maintenance and is very expensive (because you have to buy actual blades instead of guards, so if you wanted a #2 you would snap of the #1 and put a #2) but it is a very durable clipper, assuming you keep up with the maintenance. For a full set it will cost you around $200+ depending on how many blades you buy
http://www.amazon.com/Oster-76076-010-Classic-Professional-Clipper/dp/B00070E8LA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359765399&sr=8-1&keywords=Oster+76

>If you dont want to deal with the maintenance you can look at the Andis Improved Masters, they are durable, require the basic maintenance (oil and wipe of blades in between use). Downside is that it gets hot very quickly. This clipper will cost you about $100 including the guards which you will buy separately. These are probably the most popular clipper, probably more popular than the 76 because it is better for all around clippers and requires less maintenance. There is also the Fade Masters which is the same clipper but with a different blade, recommend the Improved Masters over the Fade if you wanted to buy one clipper.

>Another option is the Wahl 5 star senior, it is a good all around clipper like the Masters, it is a bit more cheaper, it will cost you around $60-70 including the guards. It is more powerful than the Masters (especially if you get the one with the latest v9000 motor) and doesnt get as hot as fast. Also, all Wahl products come with a 2 year warranty, some even 3.
There is also the Wahl 5 star Magic Clipper which is the same as the Wahl 5 star seniors except they have a plastic housing instead of metal. Which makes it less durable but also means it takes longer to heat up. As a result of the plastic instead of metal housing it is a little cheaper at about $40.Also requires basic maintenance.

>I have the Magic Clipper and I like them even more so than my father's Andis Masters which I used exclusively for about 4 yrs until I recently got the Magic Clipper almost a year ago. I have very coarse hair, so I appreciate the extra power the Magic Clipper has over the Masters, you might not need it. Look on youtube for more in depth reviews for these clippers.

For which part? To trim my face I use a facial trimmer. Specifically the Panasonic Pivoting Head Facial Trimmer. It's like $20 at Ulta, I thought I got it for cheaper but I could be wrong. It's also on Amazon. But anything like it would probably work.

If you like balms and want to stay on the cheap Nivea men's sensitive post shave balm is right around the $5-6 range and performs well.

u/fenstra · 3 pointsr/wicked_edge

You're doing everything right. The razor was set up properly, you're doing multiple passes, and, perhaps most importantly, you are excited to get better. Lathers are gonna take some practice, and many people suggest doing "practice lathers" until you get it right (this will also help break in your brush if it is boar hair). Angle is very important, as it determines whether or not the blade is making the optimal amount of contact with your face. Make sure you are shaving in a quiet (if not silent) space when you are first staring, as the sound of your whiskers being sliced will alert you to the proper angle. If after a few shaves you are still having problems you should check back in with /r/wicked_edge . After shaves are a personal preference. I myself don't really use them, so I can't say much on all of the brands; however, I have tried the Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm and didn't feel any difference between that and a standard shave, but of course you may have different experiences. You also mentioned neck irritations. When I irritate my neck, I find that rinsing the area with cold water a few times to be the simplest means of soothing the pain and bumps. But, as you get more comfortable with the routine, you will find that the frequency with which you neck is irritated will decrease. Well, I think I got everything, if you please tell me.

u/SisterdaleTX · 3 pointsr/wicked_edge

I am definitely looking into a glycerin soap to exchange with Dial. Ascent and Himalaya with Shea Butter look promising for shave soaps. Clearly Natural Glycerine looks promising for a pre-shave soap.

Also, I found this Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm that has great reviews. Thank you for the suggestion!

u/designtofly · 3 pointsr/wicked_edge

I wish I had a slam dunk answer. I tried the EJ aloe vera after shave through a Maggard's sample. I thought it was decent, but I also had sticker shock. At the going price, it's the same price per ml as Penhaligons and priced roughly the same as other high end after shaves like Castle Forbes and DR Harris. To be honest, I haven't tried all of the high end aftershaves, so I can't say whether EJ is as good as the rest of them. Standing on its own, I wasn't impressed enough with EJ's aftershaves to pay the price for a full bottle.

I'm curious how this Proraso aftershave compares in performance. It also has aloe and is about half the price of EJ. Nivea aftershave balm gets lots of great reviews too. I use it all the time and can recommend it. At $7, it's a great value and available at most drug and grocery stores. It's a bit more viscous than EJ but has a good skin feel. It doesn't have much of a scent, which I prefer.

u/Slep · 3 pointsr/wicked_edge

If he doesn't already have experience with shaving with a straight edge, you should go with a double-edge/saftey razor. They require far less upkeep and are easier to learn to use. The general recommendation is something like a Merkur razor.

If you're thinking of going with a badger brush and shave cream, you'll want to get him a nice brush. That will probably be the bulk of what you spend. I personally have a Saville Row brush from QED that I love but I'm sure others can chime in with their favorites.

As for hypo-allergenic shave cream, there's always Prorasso for sensitive skin. Although I don't have exema, I have sensitive skin and my absolute favorite cream is Taylor of Old Bonds Street Avocado. Contrary to the name, it doesn't smell like avocado, but something else incredible.

Lastly, I'm a big proponent of non-alcohol Witchhazel. I have my mom and my gf addicted to this stuff. It's a natural toner and antibacterial. It works great and and doesn't smell like much of anything. It's good enough that I barely use aftershave anymore. Though Nivea sensitive balm is widely accepted as a good aftershave balm.

That's about what I've been using for the last half-decade. The very last bit is razor blades. There are a number of manufacturers from Merkur, to Derby to Feather. Best bet is to buy him a trial pack (5 blades from a number of manufacterers) from a shaving site online and let him figure out his favorite.

u/virstulte · 3 pointsr/wicked_edge

Morning Routine:

Take shower. Use conditioner [1] on beard as well as hair. Shampoo/condition early in shower, allow conditioner to soak in while washing body. Rinse conditioner out of hair as the LAST THING you do.

Apply day cream [2] to non-shaved areas of my face before shaving to lock in shower moisture. Use liberally, allow to soak into skin over shave.

Head straight to sink, apply MR GLO [3] to wet face by rubbing the bar on my whiskers, massage in with fingers (no washrag) for ~30 sec with hot water. Rinse 70% of it off, leaving no lather but keeping the slickness.

Normal lather/shave [4].

Rinse, pat dry, apply Witch Hazel [5] with Cotton Rounds. Let sit while I clean up the sink.

Rub in mostly dried off WH, apply Nivea Sensitive Post-Shave Balm [6].

Evening Routine:

Take shower.

While conditioning hair, use gentle exfoliant [7] on face (daily).

Leave shower, pat face dry, apply extra hydrating night cream [8] to face.

Add extra body lotion [9] to behind ears, back of neck, and other dry areas like elbows, knees, shoulders. Dry neck and behind the ears is not to be neglected.

Use Retinol anti-aging night cream [10] on areas to prevent wrinkles, such as smile lines, crow's feet, under eyes, and forehead. A little goes a long way.

Sleep, repeat.

Note: I'm only 27, but you can never start anti-aging skincare too young. I wish I would've started it sooner. If I would have started this regimen at 18, I might not have the hint of crow's feet that I do. Remember that, you young'ins. It's expensive, but your face will thank you later.

Products Used:

  1. Organix Argan Oil of Morocco shampoo/conditioner
  2. Neutrogena Deep Moisture Day Cream SPF 20
  3. MR GLO Orange Amber
  4. Stirling Coniferous (if this counts)
  5. Thayer's Unscented Witch Hazel
  6. Nivea Sensitive Post-Shave Balm
  7. Yes To Carrots Nourishing Exfoliating Cleanser
  8. Yes To Carrots Nourishing Repairing Night Cream
  9. Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion
  10. Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Moisturizer - Night

edit: it should be noted that I shave daily. Even sundays, haha. I avoid trouble spots ATG, where I'm prone to sensitivity, mostly the bottom half of my neck, where I only ATG one small patch by my Adam's apple. The skin is tougher there.

double edit: Don't worry about being Bateman. You almost never find someone who has a beautiful face that doesn't put in that much effort. A few of my friends (San Francisco, mind you) use concealer and a light facial powder to get rid of some shine and even out color, myself included on occasion. You can hardly tell if you use Physician's Formula mineral powder as a very light coat. Nobody will ever know, and you'll be WAY more attractive. Not kidding you, the stuff is invisible, but does its job.

I guarantee you, especially famous people wear makeup all the time so they can be photo-ready. Normal plebians like you and I are no exception.
u/slothfeathers · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I second the suggestions about chemical exfoliants - maybe switch to a salicylic acid wash as you're already treating with benzoyl peroxide (which can also be contributing to the irritation) or try a BHA toner, Paula's Choice makes some good ones. I just wanted to ask, have you ever tried a spring facial hair remover? I use it and have no problems with irritation or ingrowns. Also, did you use the CeraVe lotion before you started breaking out? If you introduced it after starting to epilate you might want to try switching to something else, a lot of people break out from CeraVe moisturizers.

u/SRSix · 3 pointsr/wicked_edge

I use a Parker SR1, with either Feather or Shark blades.

u/Ignacio_ncp · 3 pointsr/chile

u/bigkegabeer · 3 pointsr/AskReddit

Switching to a safety razor literally changed my outlook on the world in the morning. Much better shave, not a lot more time, no ingrown hairs, smells a lot nicer. Here's what I would recommend for starters:

  • Merkur razor. There are many models, so pick one you like the price/look of

  • Tweezerman brush

  • Colonel Conk shaving soap. Again, many kinds but I like this one.

  • Feather blades

You can shop around and see if anything suits you better, but I highly recommend all of these. Also, this video is a good starter if you've never used a safety razor before. I've never seriously nicked myself, but I have with a Mach 3 (which I still use to shave my head).
u/adremeaux · 3 pointsr/Breadit

Yeah, I just use a shaving razor. The Feather razors are easily the sharpest thing you can buy, in an absolute sense. It is kind of insane just how sharp they are compared to even the sharpest kitchen knives.

u/scubanarc · 3 pointsr/everymanshouldknow

It's hard for me to not mention 4 important items that every man should have in their shaving kit:

merkur 180 long handled razor

feather blades, the sharpest you can buy

For sensitive skin and a close shave, this combo is hard to beat. Bonus items if you really want to shave well:

proraso, numbs the pain

boar bristle brush, really makes the lather

Wet shaving FTW!

u/cardiovascularity · 3 pointsr/TrueReddit

I've actually bought a grip for the old-school blades (don't buy from that link, it was the first google hit for illustration, that's all). Those blades are a couple cents each.

It took me about two shaves to get accustomed to the different handle. Add decent shaving soap (also available cheaply because it lasts forever) and a brush and you're set. You can even be fancy on the handle and the brush as you don't need to replace the handle (ever), and the brush lasts at least a year of daily usage.

Shaving isn't any more difficult at all. In fact I find it easier because the single blade does not get clogged with hairs so easily.

u/girlwithruinedteeth · 3 pointsr/asktransgender

I have a shaving tip for every transfemale here.

Do not use store bought razors, they're garbage and awful for your skin.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a Safety razor and feather platinum coated blades.

It's far smoother, cleaner and closer of a shave. smoother skin=better make up application.

This is even more important if you're black or have africanized skin and hair like I do.

It takes a bit of effort and dexterity to learn, but once you do the store bought razors are just...trash.

Norelco trimmers start at $18, so if you can't afford that, your best bet is using a regular razor. Personally, though, I'd go with /u/An_Honest_Ferengi 's suggestion of the Wahl Groomsman. It's an excellent brand.

If you have a few more bucks to spend, I own and love the Wahl Lithium Ion Trimmer. It is by far the most powerful cordless trimmer I've ever used, and the battery life is incredible. Highly recommended.

u/urlefthand · 3 pointsr/malegrooming

I think you're looking for two different things. An electric razor would be good for shaving either his head or his beard smooth. Some beard trimmers can be set up to leave stubble. I've had good luck with Wahl Lithium-Ion models like this: http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-9854-600-Lithium-Ion-Trimmer/dp/B001GQ3GEY

The shaving attachment on that trimmer, however, is pretty much worthless. I prefer braun electric razors for shaving, but some people like norelco or panasonic.

u/gar187er · 3 pointsr/sex

u/aerynjbson · 3 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Norelco is a pretty good brand. Don't get one that has those three sided round blade type things. Get the old school ones.

I have an older model of this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B017PCICCS/ref=psdcmw_234951011_t2_B003U8ESI4

I can use it in the shower too, just obviously don't make a point to get it wet.

And it takes practice to trim everything up with it. But it won't take more than a handful of times to figure out how to handle everything to get the desired results.

Wahl is also a brand I've used with good results.

My bf uses this one for his trimming needs.

u/alqbeck · 3 pointsr/Frugal

There are already comments about simply using the guards to achieve the effect you want, so the only thing I'll add is that good clippers make a BIG difference. With cheap clippers (<$30) you tend to have to have to repeat the same trail over your head, which in my experience led to mistakes. Well oiled good clippers make screwing up less likely. I've had five or six sets (corded and cordless) in the last 24 years, and my favourites by far are the Oster Fast Feeds.

u/Jabronez · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Oster Fast Feed is what I use. The lever on the side gives you a fair amount of control, and the combs that come with it should do fine for most beard lengths. It's faster, more reliable, and will give you a better cut than anything you've linked.

Whal has a pretty great standard of quality for the price. The clippers I use are:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001GQ3GEY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00

There's actually an attachment head to this one that trims short hairs even shorter, pretty much to the bare skin. It's the big one with two curved rows (shown in the middle here).

Here's my method:
Use the clipper flat on your skin without a guard to trim hairs short (1-3mm), then take the big head to finish the job. The big head can't pick up long hairs, but it's a pro at short hairs. The big head works in such a way that it won't irritate or bite your skin.

Here's what's great about that big head: since it only works on short hairs, you can use it every few days to keep your skin bare, really without even looking. If I let it go too long I have to trim it again.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have questions.

u/agamemnons · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use an Andis Professional T-Outliner to get the rough line in my beard. Then I use OSTER Fast Feeds to trim all the hairs down. Then, I use a straight razor to line up the actual line. I use an Aberlite Beard Shaper with the straight razor and Aloe Vera as a shave gel

I also pluck the thicker hairs on my cheeks every now and then

u/SarcasticOptimist · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

A good quality corded shaver will do the trick; the ones at barbershops will be sufficient. Besides Wahl, this Andis and Oster are also worth considering. The big maintenance item is oiling.

u/SubGothius · 2 pointsr/Frugal

If you want a beard trimmer to use for haircuts as well, get an olde-skoole barber-style plug-in model from Oster or Wahl. If those seem a bit bulky, the Wahl Peanut clipper is a bit smaller/lighter than most but well-regarded.

BTW, I actually use just the bare shearing head without any comb attachments to shear my scalp, makes it very nearly bald but lower-maintenance without the risk of nicks or ingrowns, and after a day it has a nice, velvety nap the ladies seem to like. :-)

u/buhlot · 2 pointsr/malehairadvice

Very good question! Personally, I've only used electric clippers, specifically this one when I was keeping my beard short. I've never used those foil-thingy electric shavers, so unfortunately I can't help you there.

As for razors, I've only used the Magnum M5 for my head, and a shavette to touch up my cheekline and neckline. I haven't had any major skin irritation other than a nick or two especially on my adam's apple.

u/onyxsamurai · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

She used Oster clippers back in the early 80s for that purpose and her 40 year old clippers are still working.

I'm not gonna lie - yes, the epilator hurts.

I, personally, have got used to it and I sort of weirdly enjoy the sensation now, but yeah... it's pulling out hairs really quickly, so that's what it feels like. I physically exfoliate the areas I epilate to keep ingrowns at bay (I either use a loofa / use up my old St Ives Apricot Scrub) because otherwise, yes, I do find the odd ingrown (I generally spot them before they do anything nasty, and then just nudge them out with a tweezer tip). I know some people use ice-packs to numb themselves before epilating, but I don't bother.

For "down there" I just trim (I use the schick razor doodad that has a battery-operated little shaver on the back for a bit of topiary). I'm pretty au-natural, otherwise (I epilate or shave hairs that stray outside the area I'd consider "bikini safe").

I'm a married lady. My husband knows better than to complain, and anything I do is for my own personal comfort and tastes. I think he does more "landscaping" than I do. ;)

u/Nervette · 2 pointsr/funny

From a lady: they make combo trimmer/razers. Something like this. Then grab a washcloth, shave cream of choice, and (trust me on this) some gel style deodorant.

First, use the trimmer side to trim everything down short with the shortest guard setting. It doesn't have to be perfect, you're just clearing some bush so you can see the roots, so to speak. Second, hop on a warm shower, lather up, and delicately shave. As you finish a section, come by and gently scrub it with your washcloth. This will help reveal missed hairs, and I've found it reduces my chance of razor burn. When you are done with your shower, any place prone to ingrowns or chaffing gets the gel deodorant. Repeat with the washcloth and deodorant every shower, and reduce bumps and ingrowns. The key is to gently stretch the skin, not super taught, just enough to smooth things out. Don't apply a lot of pressure, and let the sharpness of the blade do the work. I find this is all too much work, and only so shave the bikini line, but trim the rest like step 1.

I was really hesitant to get anything like this, but a girlfriend convinced me and it really does work great. You can adjust the length you want the hair, even, which was a real plus. Ive had it about 5 months it is still working.

At the risk of sounding like a tv commercial, i very much recommend.

Not gonna lie, my wife's $10 schick with a trimmer on it. Works pretty well, it's lightweight, compact, and the trimmer portion is adjustable. I also have sets of Wahl and Andis clippers. Depends on what I'm scaping as I'm a midget sized wookie.

It looks like a Col Conk stand. Amazon, Westcoastshaving. Brush opening: 25.5mm or 1inch.

Shaving stand is one of those things that somewhat divides peoples opinions. I'm personally strongly of the opinion that the shaving stand isn't necessary. Here is a very recent thread about it. I suggest you read the comments through. Of course if you want you can get the stand.

Any reason as to why you are looking products from ebay. The best places to order from in Europe are Connaughtshaving.com (UK), Shaving.ie (Ireland), and Gifts & Care (Spain). They all ship worldwide and belong to EU, so if you are ordering from EU you don't have to worry about customs.

I would look into Omega/Semogue boar brushes or Muhle synthetic brushes.

HERE is what I recommend for DE kit. Mainly posting that for all the information links in that post, I suggest you check them out. Plus if you got/get questions don't hesitate to ask, people here will happily help you.

u/FrankieSucks · 2 pointsr/Frugal

Shaving with a DE razor. A good razor is about twice or three times as much as a cartridge razor, but the long term savings are nuts.

Merkur 180 Razor $33

Omega Shaving Brush $13

Proraso Soap $8.50

Optional Razor Stand $22

Optional Alum $5

100 Pack of Astra Blades $10.50

Total cost of 100 DE shaves including startup costs: $92

Total Cost of next 100 shaves (blades and soap): $19

Gilette Fusion $11

100 Cartridges (8 packs) $362

Shaving Cream $20

Total cost of 100 cartridge shaves including startup costs: $393

Total cost of next 100 shaves (blades and shaving cream): $382

as far as other tips, i scoured this and the badger and blade website for hours to try and figure out what would work. so my advice would be to replicate what i got. but the interesting thing is that everyone has different opinions -- even down to what razor pack to buy -- so at some point you just need to get something and see how it works. but, for instance, i got the edwin jagger de because i was about to get a muhle and realized they were identical aside from the $40 price difference.

Please don't let stop you from experiencing something with your education. I have been camping many times for long period of time, and shaved without a mirror, even. Just kept feeling where there was hair.

>It's insane how much variety there is in what works and doesn't work for individuals.

So very true. I tried SO MANY different razors, "men's", "women's", safety, and they all left my neck jacked up. The 9311 is the only one I ever found that didn't. Oh and Shave Secret is the other half of my shaving method, I can't speak highly enough about that stuff too!

u/mahonster · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

Congrats on getting out of that bad foster situation man. I might have a few tips and tricks I haven't seen getting put out yet for you.

  1. I second what some people are saying, take as many showers as you want. Something I did find, however, is that if I only shampooed my hair every other day, eventually my hair wouldn't get oily. I've found that something like a Head and Shoulders shampoo/conditioner all in one cleans and keeps the white flakies off.

  2. Those razor burn bumps were the bane of my existence, 'till I discovered the old-school double bladed safety razors (like this one and learned how to use one. For the shaving cream I alternate between Shave Secret (you can find it at Wal-Mart for a couple bucks) and a Gillette sensitive skin gel. No more bumps.

  3. I am one hairy dude. I even have hair on the backs of my fingers. Mostly what I do is keep my pubes trimmed up (helps keep down body odor), and every once in a while use a trimmer with a guard to trim up my eyebrows and get rid of the uni-brow. They would look like caterpillars having sex on my face otherwise. I wouldn't recommend the eyebrow trimming unless it noticeably gets out of hand, but definitely take care of the uni-brow, if you're cursed with that. Otherwise, lots and lots of chicks dig a hairy-chested (fit) dude.

  4. T-shirts get one use from me. Button downs, one to three uses, depending on if I've sweated. Jeans... if it looks or smells dirty, wash them. Otherwise, just hang them up at the end of the day and you're good to go. If it looks dirty or smells like anything other than your deodorant/cologne, wash it. I just use liquid detergent and about 2 cups of vinegar in the wash. The vinegar actually helps get rid of odors and stains. Also, use unscented fabric softener sheets. It helps keep your clothes looking nice, and there won't be any scent to clash with whatever you're wearing.

Also, I highly recommend sticking with something like an Old Spice deodorant and no cologne, unless you can ask a girl that you trust what cologne would smell good on you. And then only use a spray or two under your shirt for the day.

Biotene mouthwash (from Wal-Mart again) dissolves the gunk that is left on your teeth after eating, makes brushing your teeth much more effective. It's a bit more expensive than Listerine, but I've only had a couple cavities in my entire life.

A good, comfortable pair of shoes will make you feel and look better. If your feet hurt, then you will hurt all over. My personal favorite for everyday wear is Macbeths (you can find them at Journeys in the mall). Good foot support, they look great, and they're (relatively) inexpensive. I was without a vehicle in California for about 6 months, wore a pair out walking everywhere in them without a single problem.

I know I'm late to the party, but I hope these help!

https://www.amazon.com/SECRET-SHAVING-18-75ML-Health-Beauty/dp/B0023XF60Q?th=1 with a shick intuition moisture..... works like a charm! maybe a tube of bikini zone to soothe the skin if it gets irritated....

u/DelphFox · 2 pointsr/explainlikeimfive

There are better/thicker/thinner/etc brands out there, but simple Shave Secret has always worked for me. You can find it at wal-mart for a few bucks, and it lasts forever.

I thicken it up with a little bit of mineral oil as well, and use lotion post-shave.

u/Jameson21 · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use one of those self cleaning Braun electric razors. I apply Shave Secret and wet shave with the electric razor.

I make sure to let it do it's full clean cycle after every shave to keep it clean.

After I shave, I apply an AHA to help exfoliate the dead skin away. I wait about 20 minutes and then lightly apply CeraVe in the tub to moisturize.

This has greatly reduced any shaving induced acne.

u/iheartyourpsyche · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I do not have hirsutism, but I am very hairy all over my face and body and have struggled with that a lot. The only thing I've found to be relatively non-irritating are the small electric face shavers. This is the one I use, and most shavers in this shape work well for me. I've tried eyebrow shavers like these, but I found that they irritated my skin, especially when I had a lot of acne.

If you end up using the shaver I'd recommend 1) sterilizing it often to avoid it irritating your skin and causing more acne, and 2) being gentle and shaving in the direction of hair growth as much as possible.

Also, while hair does not grow back thicker when you shave, it does have a "blunt tip" which makes it appear so. Because of this, you may want to consider Laser Hair Removal for the long term. Shaving has worked for me, but I think if you have a condition and it bothers you, it might be the best solution. I saw in another comment that you have fair skin and dark hair, and that's the perfect combo for LHR, although the method has vastly improved and almost anyone can get it now.

u/Kawaii_Fart_Tits · 2 pointsr/sugarfreemua

I think three things could really help you out.

  1. Cover lashes with a small bit of water proof eyeliner and then curl them, that will hold the curl. EDIT: You guys, this is a popular tip MUA god Wayne Goss uses. I swear I'm not just making this tip up. She obviously doesn't have to do it if it irritates her eyes. It's just a tip. The main point is her lashes need a curl. Then cover lashes with a dark mascara.

  2. Define your beautiful big eyebrows. If you're scared of plucking you can use an eyebrow razor. (I do!) http://www.amazon.com/Tinkle-Eyebrow-Razor/dp/B002C89J96. You just want a clean line is all. Edit: If you're afraid of plucking eyebrow hairs then wouldn't you think using a razor designed for eyebrows would be a great alternative? It works amazing for me when I don't have the time for plucking.

  3. Use some highlighter on your cheekbones. That will give you a 'glow'.

    Hope that helps, good luck!

Haha, all I was saying was those were the 3 things that made me look different in the second photo. As you can see in the first photo, I have very oddly patchy chest and stomach hair, so I decided to shape it up a bit for summer. Bought the above groomer, then quickly realized that it isn't so much a groomer as it is a wipe your body clean of hair-er. My girlfriend said she likes it, so I guess I am now adding "body grooming" to the list of hygiene tasks.

u/wildradish · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I use this Phillips Bikini Trimmer because I prefer trimming with the shower going. The build quality is nice, and it's also wall charged!

Initially, I bought this which failed miserably. My hair was too straight/flat for the trimmer to properly cut, and the cutting mechanism... pulls(?) the hair a bit. That was not cool. Unfortunately it wasn't exactly a product I felt comfortable returning, haha.

Van Der Hagen shaving brush.
It actually works pretty well, and is my most commonly used one.
Art of Shaving sampler pack brush brush.
I like it, but it seems to take me a lot longer to build lather.
Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue.
Not much to say about it, the wife likes it!
Adidas Aftershave
I like the smell of this one, and it pairs pretty well with the D&G
Coates Lime Shaving Cream!
I love the smell of this stuff! I have Sandalwood too, but it mostly sits in my small chest of things I have for "Another day"
Feather blade bank
Keeps my trash bags from getting ripped open. I have been using it for over a year, and it isn't even half way full yet.

Middle Shelf:
Lady Gillette Safety Razor
This one is the Wife's she loves it and uses it exclusively after she realised how much better it was over cartridges! It did take a while for her to stop thinking that she was going to Sweeny Todd her legs with one.
Gillette Knack Safety Razor
I use this one pretty much every shave. It is fairly mild, but paired with some Sharks it really works well for me!
No Name razor I picked up at an Indian Bazaar for $3.
It has about a 2 inch gap(exaggerating here, but it is huge!) between the blade and the head, so I haven't used it and probably won't! But it is pretty on the shelf!

It works! And gets used!

Bottom Shelf:
Gillette Travel Tech

Gillette 40s Style Super Speed
I got this off an ebay auction, I haven't tried it out yet either. It came in great shape though! And I plan on giving it a test run tonight!
Gillette Milord
Apparently, it is the same razor as the Super Speed, but with gold plating. Also came in great shape, and I haven't tried it out either!
Shark DE Blades
These are my go to blades! I love em!
Wilkinson Sword Classics
I was buying these guys at Walmart, and I loved em! But then I got Sharks and I haven't had to buy anything else because of how many Sharks I still have left over!
Merkur Blades
I haven't tried these, I honestly have no idea how they came into my possession. They look nice though!
Alum Block
It works great!

Prep is so important. Make sure your skin is as ready as it can be before shaving..A hot shower, or a hot washcloth or towel wrapped on your face for a few minutes. Rub a little conditioner on your face as well during a shower or hot towel soak. Get your skin soft and those pours wide open! What kind of shaving cream do you use? If it's foam in a can or anything Gillette wonder color in a can, throw it away immediately! An easy alternative that makes a world of difference grab yourself a bottle of Kiss my face shaving cream. It will help improve the smoothness of a shave. If you wanna do one even better, grab yourself a bore shaving brush, a shaving bowl and some C.O. Bigelow shaving cream and learn how to lather it up properly and apply it with the brush. Using a brush will help stand the hairs up better so you can get a closer shave...Next, sign up for Dollar shave club and get their middle of the road package. They'll send you more blade then you'll need..I had to cancel my account for the time being because I have stacks of extra blade cases I haven't gotten to yet. You'll save a TON of money and their blades work great. Which leads me into my next tip. Maintain your blades! After every use make sure you rinse all the gunk out from between the blades and then dry it as good as you possibly can!..Most people just give it a quick rinse and toss it back on the counter or wherever while it's still wet..If you dry your blades and don't leave them face down on anything, they'll last much longer...And lastly, when you do all that and actually start to shave after all the prep. Always shave with the grain for the first pass then shave parallel then shave against the grain. Remember to keep your blade rinsed during the process and don't be afraid to lather on a bit more shaving cream, even if its after every couple of strokes..Keep your skin moist and lubricated..Take your time and try to make every pass count. The fewer passes you make the better. Some people will suggest an Alum block to use post shave, but with so many open wounds on your face, I'd hold back on those for now. Not only will it sting like hell for you, it could aggravate any conditions. Only grab one and use as a preventative once your face has cleared up as well as possible...

Also, it would behoove you to learn about Oil cleansing method. My tips may not suit everyone, but as someone who's face use to look like yours and had trouble shaving for so many years. So applying my tips if you haven't tried them already could provide similarly positive results like I had...Good luck!

>the styptic pen was shit. it's already deteriorated to nothing, and it wasn't really the idea I got when it was explained to me. It was just a small piece of low quality alum in the form of a fat stick. It didn't work well and wore down fast. thinking of replacing with this: alum block

Be aware of the difference between an alum block (which is an astringent / post shave treatment) and a styptic pencil (which is only meant to be used in case of bleeding nicks and weepers). Alum has some styptic properties, enough for very small lesions, but is too weak for a real nick.

u/ruger9shooter · 2 pointsr/shaving

There are a couple things people suggest around here. One is a pure glycerin soap as a face wash in the shower. Another is a double edge safety razor with shaving soap and a brush. The third thing is an alum block. Some have good results some do not. I would start with the glycerin soap and the alum block. They won't run you much and may even be available at yor local stores. If you want to check out DE shaving check out Stirling or Maggardstarter kits.

I forgot to add using Thayer's Alcohol Free witch hazel as an aftershave. You can also pick up store brand witch hazel at almost any pharmacy or grocery store but it doesn't smell as nice as Thayers. Witch hazel is an astringent and a toner.

You can take care of everything at once, dick, balls, taint, even bh. If you use it the recommended time I guarantee you won't get burned unless you have the most sensitive skin in the world. I always go a few minutes over because my hair is coarse and still have no problems.

u/TinyMenu · 2 pointsr/TopsAndBottoms

I'm in the UK so this link may not work for you but this is the exact stuff I use. It has kinda shitty reviews but I guess YMMV because I've never had any trouble - I'd definitely suggest going with the cream/pre-mixed stuff rather than the powder. It's just so much easier.

The tubes also last fucking ages, at least for me;I had a look at my order history and this is how often I've bought it: https://i.imgur.com/Wyby2Sz.png

Been using mine to trim my beard for 3 years now. Battery is still going strong, and it works great. Vacum aspect works decently, but is not the selling point of the device. Has multiple lengths to choose from, digital dial is great.

I use the andis t-outliner to line up my beard and get rid of neck hair, its super close, almost like a clean shave.

I bought both machines 3 years ago, work like perfect even after 3-4 usages/week. Norleco requires only minimal cleaning, removing a piece and removing hair. The t-outliner requires oiling after usages and depending on how thick your hair is maybe a compressed air can to get some hair out (or unscrew it and do it). I haven't had to unscrew mine or use compressed air on it, and it works great, all I do is oil it after every usage.

u/TheTChild · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

As someone who shaves their head regularly I would recommend the Andis T-Outliner for a close shave or the Wahl Custom Shave 4000 for an even closer shave.

u/Mership · 2 pointsr/Blackfellas

Andis T outliner.

https://www.amazon.com/Andis-T-Outliner-Trimmer-T-Blade-04710/dp/B000143C0K

Get one they are what most black barbers use and they work.

I will never use a razor again. I have tried three different times in the last 10 year and every time I got razor bumps, no matter what technique I used.

With the grain, hot towel before and after, speciality shaving cream etc, etc, etc none of that shit works for my face.

u/agent-99 · 2 pointsr/tifu

hairdresser here: get the kind of clippers one can use without a guard on skin if he wants it shaved off, like it sounds he does, instead of shaved short. i use these. they shouldn't cut your skin, and the ones that go with a guard are best with a guard on, or with a comb between skin and blade.

i use this brush to brush the hairs off the blade.

VERY IMPORTANT: you need clipper oil to oil between the blades to keep your blades working as long as possible and not rusting! put a few drops where the blades meet each other, turn them on for a sec, wipe them off, start clipping!

u/brainguy222 · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

Buy a semi-professional one. The cheaper ones, $20 and below, don't last long, but if you are only going to use it for trimming your side burns or nose hairs and not an actual beard, then it will serve you fine. Ask your local barber where he gets his trimmer. The brand and model he gets will likely be the high quality and easier to get in your area. (sounds like you live overseas) If you want it shipped to you from the US i say something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Andis-Professional-T-Outliner-Personal-Trimmer/dp/B000143C0K/ref=sr_1_16?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1335288490&sr=1-16

Andis is a very good company, but make sure to get their more expensive stuff because their cheap stuff is not all that great.

u/MrPeriodical · 2 pointsr/todayilearned

I actually used to used the Braun series but I switched to using an outliner similar to this.

It shaves just as close as a razor and they're easier maintenance than an electric shaver.

u/dallast313 · 2 pointsr/Blackfellas

Razor bumps are created by the hair growing back into the skin, breaking it, and all the related inflammation/infection. Electric razors, particularly the Norelco, work on the premise of lifting the hair above the skin, cutting it, and letting the hair drop below the skin after the tension is released. For a man with even slightly curly hair, this is a recipe for DISASTER. The tighter the curl pattern the worse the results. The Norelco must go!

What he needs/wants is something that cuts close enough to give him a clean look, but leaves the hair at/above skin level so that the curl pattern doesn't dig back into the skin. He needs trimmers. Pick him up some professional quality trimmers like these or these. Make sure to also pick up spray lubricating disinfectant (not plain alcohol!), clipper oil, and store them in a large zip lock freezer bag (humidity protection). They will last literally forever as long as not dropped.

He will need to make trimming part of his daily routine. He may still get "razor" bumps in areas where his hair is particularly curly or if his hair grows fast even with the trimmers. So staying on top of it is a must. Also, running a CLEAN straight edge, like a credit card, against the grain of those hairs through the day may help them not dig into his skin. Most likely though, running a trimmer over his face once/twice a day should keep him clean "shaven" without the bumps.

It's hard to beat the Oster classic 76 clippers. I've had mine for 2 years now and they are fantastic.

u/VortexJones · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

I've got this guy, which I thought was like the fucking Lamborghini of hair clippers:

http://www.amazon.com/Oster-76076-010-Classic-Professional-Clipper/dp/B00070E8LA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301713584&sr=8-1

But it does the same shit, plus, it's tough to cut your hair by yourself, especially lining up the back. Hence why I've been going to Great Clips. Do you cut your hair wet or dry?

u/jadosco · 2 pointsr/malehairadvice

In high school I was getting my hair buzzed every two weeks, so I got one of these to try it myself and save money. Only lasted a few months of normal use before the plastic housing started to fall apart. After that I took some professional advice and got an Oster Classic 76, which was the "Cadillac of hair clippers" according to my barber. I've had it over 3 years so far and it's fantastic. What's great is they sell the individual parts so if anything ever breaks you can just order bits and pieces rather than replacing the whole thing. This thing'll last you a lifetime.

With combs it'll run you about $150. Expensive, but from haircuts to touch ups it'll pay itself off in a year or so, especially if you start cutting your friends' hair like I did. Definitely worth checking out!

u/michio_kakus_hair · 2 pointsr/wicked_edge

I used an Oster Classic 76 when I maintained a beard. It's fantastic with one of their metal combs, which you have to purchase separately.

Unless you have another reason to own an Oster (like cutting your head hair), it's way too expensive though.

u/thisisthegoodpart · 2 pointsr/sex

My friend runs her own boutique salon and offers body waxing services to both her female and male clientele.

Certain customers have very sensitive skin on the delicate parts of their body.

For those customers, my friend routinely uses the Seiko S-Yard ES412 Cleancut Personal Shaver.

This Japanese import shaver does the best job in getting as close as possible, but its blades and screen are engineered so well that the shaver can easily be used on the most sensitive parts of either female or male body without any danger of nicks or cuts on the skin.

She uses this shaver in tandem with Sween Body Powder, an ultra-fine grained cornstarch-based body powder, which allows the shaver to literally glide over the skin.

For men who come for the first time with a great deal of body hair, she'll first use a standard set of professional-grade electric hair clippers, like the Oster 76 Classic with its matching 00000 blade which cuts existing hair down to a 0.02 mm size, at which point the Seiko S-Yard can easily trim the remaining hair down to 0.0025 mm or less.

As others have mentioned here, you can get a decent shave with other personal area shavers like the Norelco Bodygroom Pro or the Schick Quattro Trimstyle, but if you want a consistently close yet safe shave of the genital region, the Seiko S-Yard is your best option short of using a razor.

u/WasJosie · 2 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I think little battery operated trimmers are perfect for this. You can find them at just about any drugstore (often in the "As Seen on TV" section). I put a link to one on Amazon so you can see what I mean. For me, it seems to work best to go downward on the cheeks, and upward on the upper lip. These are cheap, so it would be worth a try to see if this works well for her. I pluck the few coarse hairs that show up on my chin sometimes, otherwise I use this gadget. Very cheap, doesn't hurt at all, and very quick to use with no mess.

it's good at getting the fine hairs without actually rubbing on my face!

u/SlowestRobot · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

Yup, have shaved my facial hair before as well! In fact, I did so earlier today to record a presentation for school, hah.

I have PCOS and grow hair in some frustrating places, but this product has been a lifesaver. I don't have any issue with bumps which I generally get from shaving (or using conditioner to shave, ugh, even with oil as the bottom layer). And you can get a rather close shave considering that it is a trimmer - I have a tiny bit of friction at the end of where my mustache would be and nada under my chin where I get my coarsest hairs. It also has another razor head specifically for eyebrows!

u/KnottilyMessy · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I've never tried a hair growth serum, but I do have a slight mustache which I've tried several removal methods. I hate waxing and plucking. I used to love the Sally Hansen version of a cream facial hair remover; however, if you have sensitive skin it may not be the best as it can be irritating and even burn if you leave it on too long.

For the past year or so though, I've been using this women's facial hair trimmer. It's pretty cheap and comes with attachments for eyebrow grooming as well. It's completely quick and painless. You do have to use it regularly (every week or two depending on how fast your hair grows) or you can begin to see slight stubble. I usually know when to use it again because my boyfriend makes a mention of my mustache coming back. I've noticed it gets even tiny peach fuzz which might be good for dermaplaning your face if you're into it though I've never tried it myself.

u/elbowglitter · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I have super sensitive skin and can't wax or use depilatory creams, and I use one of those little electric trimmers (like this one but it's an off brand bought very cheap) every so often.

I think you would be amazed at how many women deal with facial hair. Take a good look around at the women you see during an average day. Normally, you're not looking at them for facial hair, but I bet if you focus on it, you'll see it and realize that most of them just don't care.

u/Narsil86 · 2 pointsr/bald

Wahl professional balding clippers are a good price/quality ratio. Just oil them after every use (which you will find are the directions of any good clippers) and they should last many years. Been cutting my own hair without a guard for about 3 months now (they come with 2 guards) and I've never cut or hurt myself (some reviews of other clippers got so close they caused skin irritation, never had that problem).

Took me a month of looking for clippers on and off before I decided on these. Couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I use Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm around my member. Feels and smells freaking great, and is a slight disinfectant. That'll help with irritation, and ingrown hairs. I follow up with a facial moisturizer, and I'm done. I'll do this daily, after my shower. After a couple of days, I might add gold bond, but I find it's a little too much right after a shave.

u/ImZoidberg_Homeowner · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I highly recommend these Nivea after shave. They are the best moisturizer and after shave combination. They don't leave that oily feel you get from lotion. Your skin will absorb it almost instantly. The only downside is that it doesn't seem to have any spf protection.

This help me prevent pimples too so there's that. Probably because my face will get too dry.

Been using this for 4 years now.

u/Shpook · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

I'm only 29, and disgusted by the amount of replies involving electric shavers. I have an extremely sensitive neck, but never have issues with razor rash or breakouts. Here's what you need:

THIS
THIS
and THIS

Take a long hot shower, then shave. Whip up some soap and apply with the brush, going against the grain. This suspends the hair in the soap. Then shave your face once, going WITH the grain, using short, quick strokes.

Apply soap once again, making sure you use hot water to whip it up. Shave a second time, this time going AGAINST the grain.

Rinse your face with COLD water. This is important. You need the pores closed back up ASAP to prevent irritation. Then apply the aftershave balm.

Keep in mind, there's a learning curve to using safety razors. You WILL cut yourself. but once you learn, I promise you'll have no more irritation.

I live in Florida with oily, acne-prone skin. I use mostly AB, but there are some western products that I haven't been able to find better replacements for. Here's my oil-conscious morning routine:

  • Cleanse with sulfur soap. I'm currently testing this out on my acne and recently switched from Cosrx's Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser.

  • Tone with Cosrx Natural Bha Skin Returning A-sol.

  • Reduce excess sebum with Cosrx Bha Blackhead Power Liquid 2-3 times per week. I find that this helps keep my pores clean and reduces oil production.

  • (After waiting 20 minutes) Protect with Biore UV Aqua Rich sunscreen.

  • Moisturize and prime with Nivea Men Sensitive Skin After Shave Balm, which is seriously the best makeup primer I have ever used. Possibly also the cheapest. Feels like nothing on my face, yet allows makeup to stay on all day. Definitely one of my HGs.

  • Color correct with Missha Magic Cushion. It's lightweight, provides good coverage, stays on and doesn't get cakey.

  • And, if I know that I'm going to be outside or busy all day, I'll spray on Skindinavia's Makeup Finishing Spray, which works better than powder and doesn't dry out my skin.

Muhle makes their razors out of Zamak. I'd be hard pressed to call it BIFL.

I'm going to make a quick BIFL list with short explanations on why.

*Links are my preference.

======BASIC REQUIREMENTS======

  • Pre-Shave
    >Optional, depends on your face. Warm distilled water works for me.

  • Shaving Cream
    >Find one that suits you. Hard soap lasts longer, creams are better for hard water.

    >*Proraso
  • Razor
    > When choosing the razor, make sure it is made out of solid stainless steel. The Muhle listed (to my knowledge, is made of Zamak steel (brittle, will break if dropped several times)

    >I'd personally suggest a Vintage Gillette/ Feather/ Weber/ Pils/ Above the Tie/ iKon

    >*Weber 316L SS Razor

    >Technically speaking 303 steel is not as ideal as 316L
  • Brush
    >The brush may not last a lifetime, but is well worth getting one that you enjoy. Hair types vary and cater to different faces, note the grades of badger hair in particular.

    >There are different sizes and a deep or normal set which should also be taken into account.

    > *Wipped Dog Silvertip 22mm Regular Set

  • Bowl
    >I like a homemade bowl. If you're going to be using one every day, it's best to just get one that looks nice.

    >This is expensive, but this should give some ideas.

  • Blades
    >Each razor+blade combination is different. If you have a BIFL razor, you will probably not have to retry every blade known to man.

    >Blade Sampler

    >I love my *Silver Blues

  • Aftershave
    >Depends on your face and scent preferences.

    >I have sensitive skin and my face dries out easily so I always get *Nivea Sensitive Shave Balm

    <br />
Cartridge shaving can give fair shaves in short amounts of time.<br />
    <br />
Wet shaving takes longer, even when you get better at it. It can in fact be enjoyable.<br />
    <br />
As for technique and how to: /r/wicked_edge.<br />
    <br />
TL;DR: GET A RAZOR THAT IS **SOLID STAINLESS STEEL** NOT [ZAMAK](http://www.reddit.com/r/wicked_edge/comments/20g48v/what_if_we_want_a_more_serious_longer_lasting_de/cg32pv8).

If you like AoS pre-shave oil, but are not fond of the price, check Amazon. Cheaper there.

On the Nivea aftershave, I've used that one, but it's not the nicer one. This one is much nice IMO, and I say that having used both. That said, I'm currently using an AoS Lavender after shave and like that fairly well, can be had relatively cheap from Amazon also, but not as cheap as the nice Nivea one.

u/Dubaya · 2 pointsr/wicked_edge

well there are after shave splashes that primarily consist of alcohol and there are after shave balms that are more moisturizing and lotion like. personally i dont like the splash kind because it dries my skin out and i dont feel like putting alcohol on a freshly shaved face is the healthiest thing for your skin.

you can look for something like this at your grocery store for about $5 i think.

u/jollyswagman · 2 pointsr/pics

Try experimenting with a different technique, different soap etc. Avoid shaving over the same area multiple times. If you don't use any aftershave maybe you should investigate something like this.

u/Mesadoram · 2 pointsr/wicked_edge

I decided to go for the Nivea for Men Sensitive Formula because I am a little weary of putting alcohol on my face. It smells really nice and is not overpowering.

u/incredib1yclose · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

My sister and I both use a spring facial hair remover. We each have our own of course...

It hurts a lot less than threading since it doesn't tug on the hairs forever before finally pulling it out. It irritates our skin a lot less compared to waxing, because it only grabs the hair. Plus, you don't have to wait for it to grow to a certain length before removing.

u/Pepperpie88 · 2 pointsr/beauty

I have a lot of peach fuzz on my face too. This product removes hair very easily and doesn't hurt very badly. It's cheap and works well. Just roll the spring over your face and it removes the hairs, even the little downy ones.

u/idlehen · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use a REM Spring which someone told me is gentler than threading. So far I like it. It does hurt a bit when you first use it, but it's not that bad. I've never had much irritation from it, but mind you, my skin is not too sensitive. Might be worth looking into. There are cheaper knock off versions if it seems a bit too pricey:

u/restlessgrad · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Shaving = ingrown hairs and irritation for most poeple.

The more blades, the more likely you are to get ingrowns -- you don't just take off the hair, you also take off layers of skin. The skin then heals over the hair follicle, and you get an ingrown.

I might suggest going once a week to get your face threaded. It's a very low contact, low irritation method.

These are also good: https://www.amazon.ca/R-E-M-Spring-Facial-Hair-Remover/dp/B001FXUTUM

u/acutehypoburritoism · 2 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

This thing is AWESOME for the wee face hairs and doesn’t involve setup/cleanup:

https://www.amazon.com/R-Spring-Facial-Hair-Remover/dp/B001FXUTUM/ref=pd_aw_lpo_194_bs_tr_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&amp;amp;psc=1&amp;amp;refRID=981N05WNXCEWZCCMYNBY

I have gifted this to all my female relatives of a certain age (tactfully, of course, and only after they have complained about waxing)

You’re not alone!

u/kovixen · 2 pointsr/AskWomen
u/delapse · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

If you get them threaded again, they'll grow out without the ends blunt again.

But for long term, if you don't want to get an electric epilator or lasered or shave it more often, I'd go with something like this. Depending on how thin your hairs are, it might work really well and it's relatively inexpensive.

u/five_inch_heels · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Holy cow so many people shaving! For reference, I'm of Mediterranean decent and threading faces is a biweekly event for all the ladies in my family. I have dark hair and, if I let it go, you can clearly see a nice mustache, wild brows, exceeding hairline onto my temples and sideburns, and a overall gray haze on my face. I've been threading my entire face for years.

For those days I don't have time for a grooming day, I use this spring (sorry, I'm on mobile) http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001FXUTUM or I gently and carefully use my epilator http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005BDAFK6.

Honestly, yeah it hurts at the beginning for a while, but god my face never feels as breathable and exfoliated as after a nice threading session. Just be sure to baby your face after for that day by gently wiping with cotton soaked with rose water or a gentle olive oil cleanser and using a very gentle moisturizer. Don't put on any make up for that day or your face will break out. You need to give that day to your skin to breathe after weeks of wearing makeup.

Obviously YMMV. This is just my routine! :)

u/Ludakrit · 2 pointsr/MGTOW

u/RenaissanceGentleman · 2 pointsr/wicked_edge

I figure it's only right of me to explain where I purchased everything!

As much as I would like to say that I picked up everything in the picture at a luxury grooming shop off Jermyn Street in London, it's all actually from Amazon. The razor, stand, and bowl were purchased together as a part of this gift set, though since I had no intention of using the included brush or soap, I probably should've purchased them separately.

Speaking of brushes, the brush is a Parker in 100% silvertip badger, which can be found here. As I mentioned in another comment in this post, the brush is a great deal; it's not only cheaper than most other silvertip brushes, but it makes a great lather to boot. Matches the set, too!

As the picture shows, I'm using Proraso shaving cream and aftershave, although I recently picked up some Edwin Jagger aloe aftershave as well. Both smell fantastic, the latter being my preference.

Not show in the picture are Feather razor blades and a styptic pencil, although I intend to switch to alum soon.

And you guys said doing this would be cheaper than using cartridges... ;)

How much do you want it shaved? If you want silky smooth.. I've got nothing. But if you're looking for a very close trim, I use one of these lithium ion Wahl trimmers for my facial hair. It trims fine--no pulling--and it can get close enough to the skin that I exclusively use it for trimming and shaping my facial hair.

I can't imagine you're going to find any electric razor that's BIFL, let alone a sub-$100 one, but I'd recommend that Wahl for /r/GoodValue.

u/ohstrangeone · 2 pointsr/ReviewThis

This is what I use, works fine, don't get it too wet (then it shorts, then you have to let it sit and dry for a couple days, then it's fine), and regardless of which one you get you will have to inevitably replace the blades on them (man face hair dulls those suckers like no other). Oh, and the replacement blades are only available from Wahl's website (search by the specific model number--no, no other replacement blades for any other model will work, I learned the hard way).

u/LVOgre · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Wahl makes a Li-Ion model that's pretty darned good. I've been using mine for 3 years, I charge it maybe 3 times a year.

u/MrWally · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

I cannot oversell my love for this razor:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001GQ3GEY

It's technically not a hair trimmer, but with the wide blade option it certainly works if you're going for a short buzz. It also lasts forever (I've had mine for running on 5 years), and I honestly have to charge it once every few months.

It is worth mentioning that some of the attachments work better than others, and the plastic stand it comes with is pretty cheap.

u/dee62383 · 1 pointr/PCOS

Some support groups are better than others. Some users in those support groups are better than others. I have had encountered a few useless Redditors, too.

Have you seen that Magic shaving powder? It's actually a depilatory, but it's not as irritating as Nair and Veet. You have to mix the powder formula with water, and it can be tricky to get the amounts just right. But it works. There is also a cream formula that may be worth a try.

u/QuestioningEspecialy · 1 pointr/bestof

I'll add to this, especially for the Afro-Americans out there.

&amp;nbsp;

Shavers...

&amp;nbsp;

After all of the cordless electric shavers I've used over the years, my Remington F5-5800 Foil Shaver gives me the smoothness shave I've ever had without using an actual razor. I finish off by edging up and trimming with a [Philips Norelco G370] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FED5DU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_F702AbWT46ATE) (it was &lt;$100 and it's probably outdated by now) I've used it for ~4-7 years and dropped it a few times. It leaves the skin a bit rough, though, but I've rarely ever nicked myself with it (if at all).

&amp;nbsp;

Instructions &amp; Maintenance...

&amp;nbsp;

Read the instructions and follow proper maintenance (brush, clean, oil, etc.). Always.
And for the record, both of my shavers are easy to clean. The Remington requires more effort, especially once a month, but the Phillips only requires a quick brushing (I add Andis Clippers Clipper Oil). The "hardest" part is letting the Remington dry for so long before putting the head back on. Don't brush the clippers while it's on, btw. Seriously, you'll ruin the brush and end up needing to replace it.

&amp;nbsp;

Battery Life...

&amp;nbsp;

If the instructions say to let the battery die before its first charge, I do so. If it says to fully charge it for X hours before its first use, I do so. Now, people of Reddit had a particular conversation about battery life once. I never looked into the matter myself, but I started practicing it with all of my chargeable devices. After the initial required drain (if instructed), I always charge it after it hits 30-50%. I do my best to never let it drain completely to 0%. The idea is that the battery will actually degrade much quicker if it drains to 0% and will need to be replaced sooner. Feel free to call me a fool on this one, but please explain your reasoning.

&amp;nbsp;

Razers &amp; Magic Shave...

&amp;nbsp;

This one requires a story or warning.
I wet shaved with my brother's razor when I was in high school because my cordless one (probably a Phillips) wouldn't work properly when I put it back together after taking the top apart for a full-ish cleaning for the first and last time (the school started reinforcing its facial hair policy).

Though it was my first time, and I shaved against the grain, I didn't cut myself or apply anything to my skin before or after. My face was so smooth that I kept touching it. Three days later, I start noticing bumps. By the fifth day, I had full on razor bumps everywhere I originally shaved. Bump Stopper II took a month or so to really any progress and around three months to really make an impact, but it left my skin dry and very flaky. Eventually, I moved to Skin Tight Razor Bump Ointment Extra Strength. It burned like hell in the beginning, but showed better progress. That and washing my face daily with soap and a towel of course.

Since I still had to shave, I just went over the bumps with a shaver and routinely wiped the blood away. Due to a barber's suggestion, I started using Bump Fighter Razors. He warned me that they were going to miss some hairs, but it worked well enough.

At some point, I was recommended (powder blue) Magic Shave because it would "eat those bumps up" (oh, boy). This stuff stinks, flakes all over the place, and can tear up your skin if you aren't careful. I tore a descent sized section of my skin off when I dragged a wet towel down my chin at the wrong angle once. I could see the skin sitting intact in the towel with the inner-end of my hairs barely sticking out of it. Was a really weird moment. That section of my face was pink and hairless for awhile before it healed over. Looked funny on my lovely complexion. For the record, I only used it every three or four days. Three is the minimum, IIRC.

If you're going to use Magic Shave, use a wet towel to wipe it off (prepare to rinse repeatedly), designate a magic shave cup that is to be used for nothing else, consider only wearing boxers, bring a broom and dust pan, and stay in one room or outside. Hell, turn the vent on, you stinky mutt. Overall, I do not recommend Magic Shave's original formula (powder blue). I cannot speak for its powder gold fragrant or creme light fresh scent version, though.

Now for razers...
I started using the cheap pack of (dark blue) Gillette dual-blade razers from Walmart in high school. They worked very well. Here are my instructions: Shave with the grain, rinse the blades after every stroke, thoroughly rinse the blades after you're done, wipe them carefully with a toilet paper to get extra crud off, and let air dry somewhere. Hell, thanks to another Reddit conversation, I kept a short round plastic container of isopropyl alcohol around in college to "shake" the razer in as a finishing touch of cleanliness. Supposedly, the alcohol evaporates after awhile, so I just let it air dry after that (read the 4/24/18 edit at the bottom). The blades lasted a pretty long time doing all of this before I need to pull out a new razor. That combined with how cheap they were...

&amp;nbsp;

Razer Bumps / Ingrown Hairs...

&amp;nbsp;

I found that daily shaving, Skin Tight creme, and actually washing or just wiping my face with a clean damp paper towel kept the bumps from fully returning. A trick I discovered to get rid of the ones that lingered was to grow my facial hair out. It looked awful for a month since the bumps returned as the hair grew (they might have been curling into the skin), but there's a point where the bumps start to recede into the skin and all you have is a full beard (minus some areas of the lower neck). Now just maintain it or shave it off. What you'll find is a smooth face with practically no bumps. You must keep the hairs from growing back, though (and maybe wash your face?). Mess that up, and the lingering bumps will return.

Oh, to hell with Bump Stopper II and don't bother with Skin Tight. My physician recommended Tend Skin Solution after I graduated college, and, let me tell you, it works better than both. I hear the ingredients aren't that bad for your health either.

&amp;nbsp;

My Routine...

&amp;nbsp;

I wash my hair (including facial) with Bubble &amp; Bee's hard water shampoo (the price is worth it, especially since it lasts for a surprisingly long time), pour on and rub in their vinegar rinse ratio (a fourth of the bottle tops; it's optional when you purchase the shampoo), wash that out, apply Nature's Way Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil to my facial and scalp hair while still damp/wet (I'm not 100% certain about using it on the scalp yet; used to use AVEDA Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil twice or thrice a week), brush my facial hair (soft bristles for the cheeks and neck; medium bristles for the beard and moustache) once in the morning, and apply Tend Skin Solution twice a day with cotton balls.

I should be using the foil shaver daily, but I don't always. Hence why I brush my cheeks and neck.

&amp;nbsp;

In closing...

&amp;nbsp;

If you're close to (or cool with) any Afro-American males, especially ones who've just started growing facial hair, consider having them read this so they can learn from my mistakes. Those razor bumps were rather unsightly.

&amp;nbsp;

tl;dr: Use Tend Skin Solution for razor bumps, wash your face, follow instructions, foil shavers leave smoother skin, read the section on battery life, don't shave against the grain with a razor, and don't use magic shave or bump stopper II.

&amp;nbsp;

EDIT (4/24/18):
About my shaving cleanup steps. I later realized that letting the isopropyl alcohol dry on the razer caused the blades to dull quicker, so I started rinsing them off and wiping them with toilet paper a second time as the final step.

You can get the Magic Shave stuff that's already mixed, for you. I've seen that it's actually a couple of dollars cheaper at Wal*mart and pharmacies, though.

u/northsidefugitive · 1 pointr/gaybros

This is the premixed cream, much easier to use. There you go. Just never leave it on too long. That's a bad day.

I know I've said it before on this sub, but I'll say it again: Magic Shave. It's a frigging miracle, and far better than any other depilatory I've tried. It works on the arms, legs, face, and even the crotch (although I'd be careful the first time). No more shaving, no more tweezing, just smooth as silk.

Try Magic Shave Cream! That's what I use when I don't feel like using a razor. I find it a ton less burny than Nair, and I've used it on EVERYTHING below my neck without any issues.

I wax my face (menopause does really disconcerting things as far as stray hairs goes), and usually use some Veet strips. They're easy, inexpensive, and actually have somewhat of a correspondence between waxing strips/aftercare products. I kind of laugh if I get a 'product' with 24 waxing strips, and 4 soothing wipes.

I've never been a fan of waxing legs or bikini etc., because you have to let it grow out before you can do it again. Great if you want to be 'hair free' two weeks out of six, but I find the stubble annoying in the meantime. I usually use Magic as a cream depilatory, and top up with razors.

Just ordered Magic Shave. My ex used to use it for his beard. It is specifically designed for black men's faces to prevent razor bumps and ingrown hairs. Starting with the regular version that stays on for 10 min and supposed to last approx 2 weeks. The stronger version only needs to stay on for 4 min. There is no scraping or scrubbing, just wipe off with a warm cloth. I learned about it from a guy that uses it for his anus, he said it doesn't burn at all. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000142TKO?psc=1&amp;amp;redirect=true&amp;amp;ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

I spent most of my childhood and some of my adulthood thinking haircuts are a waste of money, but it's the opposite. I feel so much better with decent haircuts. Now I see letting my hair go too long as wasted youth.

Go to barber and tell them you want something more clean cut and modern, because you got to get away from 'this' and point to your hair. People want to help others that are interested in bettering themselves. It helps to walk in there wearing better clothes too. Better clothes can be a matching belt and solid teeshirt. Take pictures. After you figure out a few cuts and have pictures you can go to $10 barbers and show them the pictures. If you find a good enough $10 barber you can get your hair cut more often. Get it cut every 5 weeks four times in a row and see how you think about yourself. Again, there's nothing deficient about you. You just 'wear' your hair, beard, shirt and facial expression like you are saying 'whatever'. Go for that other posters Van Dyke suggestion.

This is my recommendation for a shavette. ~$25 and prime eligible from Amazon. I've bought two of them now and we use them in the shop.

Do be careful maintaining that part yourself though. You might have a couple issues cleaning it up yourself with a straight razor. Honestly I'd recommend an Andis T-Outliner. It won't get as close as a razor but it'll be damn near it, and it'll last you a lifetime as long as you oil the blade occasionally.

I started out cutting my hair with a conair, which lasted for about 2 years before the tripping blade broke. I figured I saved so much money that it would be okay to buy a premium hair clipper. I ended up getting the Oster classic for about 130 bucks. I've used this clipper for over a year now, and still running flawlessly. All I have to do is clean and oil the blades after each use. It is also recommended to add grease to the internal gears every once in a while. I love cutting my own hair, it's probably the best thing to ever happen to me, I can't believe people spend 40 bucks a month on cutting their hair.

I use a razor these days, but I used to just use my hair clippers. Its not a "close shave" by any means, but its easy and works pretty well.

u/6745408 · 1 pointr/sheets

no problemo. I have a 'wishlist' sheet just like the one you're making.

For mine, in H2 I paste amazon.com URLs like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00070E8LA or ebay URLs like https://www.ebay.com/b/Motorcycle-Coats-Jackets-for-Men-Members-Only/57988/bn_14802713

Then in my pricing column I use =IF(ISBLANK(H2),,IF(RegExMatch(H2,&quot;amazon&quot;),IFERROR(IMPORTXML(&quot;https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/&quot;&amp;amp;INDEX(SPLIT(H2,&quot;/&quot;),4),&quot;//*[@class='green']&quot;)),(AVERAGE(IFERROR(IMPORTXML(H2,&quot;//*[@class='s-item__price']&quot;))))))

This either pulls from camel or averages the list price from ebay. The ebay pricing isn't perfect, but it at least gives me rough idea of where things are sitting.

On my DATA tab I use =IF(ISBLANK(WISHLIST!H2),,IFERROR(IF(CLEAN(INDEX(IMPORTHTML(&quot;https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/&quot;&amp;amp;INDEX(SPLIT(WISHLIST!H2,&quot;/&quot;),4),&quot;table&quot;,1),0,1))=&quot;Price Type&quot;,CLEAN(INDEX(IMPORTXML(&quot;https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/&quot;&amp;amp;INDEX(SPLIT(WISHLIST!H2,&quot;/&quot;),4),&quot;//*[@id='tracks']&quot;),0,2)),CLEAN(INDEX(IMPORTHTML(&quot;https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/&quot;&amp;amp;INDEX(SPLIT(WISHLIST!H2,&quot;/&quot;),4),&quot;table&quot;,1),0,1))))) to pull a the full title, then on my main I am using =IFERROR(ARRAYFORMULA(INDEX(SPLIT(DATA!E2:E,&quot;,-&quot;,TRUE,TRUE),0,1))) to clean up that long, bloated title.

Probably overkill.

It doesn't give me a baby-smooth shave, but leaves a hint of a shadow that my wife likes better anyway. It's a quick shave, there's zero skin irritation, and no blades to buy (I guess eventually I'll need to sharpen or replace the cutters..) Shaving with razor blades always wrecked by skin.

I have this set and I can't recommend it enough. It's a bit steep but they'll last forever and they give a great cut. They don't include guards though, so I also got these

u/figarowyourboat · 1 pointr/malegrooming

Unless your gf/wife/so is always willing to help out and do the grooming for you, you pretty much have to find outside help.

The waxing thing works for most who try it, but you'll need to make time for appointments (it usually takes 30 minutes to an hour for an experienced waxer to wax a man's back) and you'll need to budget something like $60-75 per visit.

Some folks have sensitive enough skin that waxing irritates it too much, so then we have the laser hair removal thing. That generally works pretty well, especially if you have dark back hair against white or light skin. But it takes a half-dozen appointments or more for really good results, and each appointment can run several hundred dollars.

If you can live with shorter term results, then having someone go over your back with a good, close trimmer, or something like the Norelco Body Groomer is a good option. But be prepared to have to do this once a week or more.

If you decide to groom your back yourself, you run into the most obvious problem: it's pretty hard to cover every inch of your back with just your hands. They don't (can't) twist, bend, and stretch enough to reach everywhere, especially when they're holding a trimmer. And this problem only gets worse the bigger you are.

If you really need an option that you can do entirely on your own, then something like the ManGroomer might work decently, but in my experience, it doesn't get as close as someone else running a trimmer on your back.

You can go with the RazorBa which actually works decently (it get's as close as shaving with a razor) once you get experienced with it, and you can usually just add a few minutes of time to your shaving routine to do your back. Plus, since it's not electronic or mechanical, you can use it in the shower for the most convenience.

You can also try depilatory creams like Nair for Men which do a good job for some, but a poor job for others.

Well, besides going to the doctor and asking their opinion (mine put me on Spiro for awhile which while it was a bit rough on my cycle did help not only with my adult acne did help with my hair growth, and some can recommend a gel but mine was not covered by my insurance and was EXPENSIVE so I passed) I recommend being diligent with shaving. I know, sounds like a hassle, but I have this facial hair trimmer and it works wonders. I know some people who have done laser and electrolosis (sp) which they all have said have grown back, so I've never gone that route myself. I also tweeze the prickly hairs pretty much daily if I can on my chin, but anymore I just shave in the morning and don't deal with it.

Hope that helps! I know its a pain and it seems like the worst thing ever, but its pretty manageable if you keep up on it. I just do all my stuff in the morning before putting my makeup on. The only ones that ever really get me are the wacky "waddle" hairs I don't realize I don't get until they are really long! Just make sure you have a nice mirror and you'll be fine!

u/dateadvicethrowawy · 1 pointr/sex

Get a very small hair trimmer. You'll probably struggle with a regular electric shaver, like the kind you use on your head or beards, because it will be too big to properly navigate the your butt crack. You'll be able to get all up in there with the small one...just be careful around your butthole obviously (I don't think you can really cut yourself, but I mean don't put it up there obviously). You may want to bend over with your ass facing the mirror and then kind of half turn around to see what you're doing or look in between your legs.

The one I use for shaving my ladyparts is actually made for men...I think maybe it's actually a nose hair trimmer? But it's awesome and gives me a surprisingly close shave for an electric razor. A lot of them will also have multiple settings and a little detachable head for trimming that you can set at different lengths. The only bad thing about a tiny trimmer is that if you have a TON of thick hair it could get too much caught up in it and stop working temporarily, so you'll have to go kind of slow. Just run it lightly over the surface of your hair at first to trim it down, and then from there you can keep thinning it until it reaches the desired length. You may not want to go for a full shave just yet if you're not used to it. Also trimming and shaving can be a little itchy for a day or two afterwards, but you should get used to it quickly.

u/palpablescalpel · 1 pointr/AskWomen

How much worse it will get depends on you. The hair loss isn't going to stop unless you are willing to spend money on expensive and questionable hair-restoration treatments.

The Wahl Balding Clippers cut down to .2mm. You might be able to get even closer with a blade adjustment, but that's probably about as low as you'll get. With clippers, there will always be a piece of metal in between the skin and the blade, and that can only be so thin.

I found laser did help, hormones should help more. I suggest a fascial brush to gently exfoliate before shaving. Don't over shave, if not everything is done in the first pass, use an electric shaver later. Also, this aftershave works well and doesn't smell strong or musky.

u/LivPlusPlus · 1 pointr/transpassing

Depends! Since your foundation sits kind of heavy and dry, I'd say go with a water-based primer to try and get a bit of hydration. On the cheap side, tons of girls over at /r/makeupaddiction really dig Nivea for Men After-Shave Balm. It happens to work really well as a primer, if you don't mind smelling like dude for a little while. Pricier options include Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Primer. Those are usually my go-tos when my skin is dry, otherwise I use Benefit Porefessional.

&amp;nbsp;

On a related note, are you using a moisturizer before applying foundation? You absolutely should be if you're not already. Just give it 5-10m to sink in before starting makeup. Skincare in general (see: /r/skincareaddiction) can go a long way towards making your makeup look great.

&amp;nbsp;

Last tip would be to try blending your foundation out with a slightly damp sponge (Beauty Blender, RT Sponge, etc) instead of a brush. Can help give your foundation a more 'dewy' look.

u/BogieLowenstien · 1 pointr/AskMen

Pulled this from my own Instagram because I couldn't find the original on my phone, so sorry for the b&amp;w filter, but this is what I'm currently rocking, except for the blade.

The razor is a Gillette Fat Boy adjustable double edge razor that I cleaned up (they only made them from like 1958-61 or something like that, so usually if you find one they're not in the best condition).

Instead of the Astra blade I've moved on to these which work better for my skin.

Soap, pre-shave oil and aftershave are all from Grimm Blades, the "Smolder" collection.

Honestly, the oils are shit as far as function. The soap works pretty well, but I have super sensitive skin, and the oils just weren't cutting it for me, but I'll be damned if they aren't the best smelling things I've ever used in my life. The pre-shave oil wasn't entirely terrible, so I'd use that, but the aftershave never helped, so I started using Nivea sensitive aftershave balm on my actual neck, and just applying the Grimm Blades aftershave to the back of my neck and behind my ear. Since the Nivea is near-scentless, it works out pretty well. Like, seriously, the Smolder set is my favorite smell of all time.

I have no clue what brand the brush is since it was a gift, but it's badger hair and works really well.

I stole the mug from my wife.

Edit: typos

I actually found it in the store today. Smelling it, though, I found it a little strong. I'm sensitive to some fragrances and I can only know for sure after having it on for a while.

When it dries, there is no scent? Maybe I should have applied some to my skin while I had it open to make sure, especially if it's so effective! It sounds like just what I was looking for :)

Thanks!

I shave my legs, armpits, and lady parts daily and almost never get razor burn or ingrown hairs anymore. I used to only shave once every few days because my skin would get so irritated, but I've found that with this process I'm able to shave daily with no issues:

  1. Trim long hair first
    • Like others have said, if it's been a while since you shaved the area it's a lot easier if you trim the hair down prior to shaving. If you don't have a trimmer using scissors is fine.

  2. Exfoliate
  3. Use good razor blades
    • This is the most important thing. Don't use crappy disposable blades; even a lot of the "better" drugstore brands would still give me bumps and ingrown hairs (like Mach 3 Turbo and equivalents). I currently use the Dorco Shai 6 Smooth Touch blades though I bought one of the Pace 6 Plus handles because the men's razor handles are much sturdier (the Shai handles are entirely plastic and break easily if dropped, and the men's are mostly metal and a lot more sturdy).
  4. Use a good shaving cream
    • Ditch the aerosol foam stuff, it's not helping you much at all. Conditioner is better than those shaving foams. There's a lot of different options, but I've found that for my skin the best are the thicker creams that contain some kind of shea or coconut butter. I really like Lush's Dirty shaving cream, but it's rather expensive so I've switched to the Van Der Hagen Shave Butter that's like 1/4 of the price and works just as well.
  5. Switch out blades often
    • I switch out my razor cartridges every 3 days, which seems to be the limit before they get dull enough to start irritating my skin and giving a worse shave. Don't bother with places like Dollar Shave Club -- they literally just buy Dorco blades, re-brand them, then mark them up. Just find an online retailer and buy direct from them.
    • Also, if you do go with Dorco, there's absolutely no reason whatsoever to pay full price. They have some kind of sale every 2-3 weeks so I always wait until they're having some kind of 20% off or buy-one-get-one promotion before buying more.
  6. Moisturize
u/glatts · 1 pointr/malegrooming

So about a year or two ago I began experiencing similar problems. One day it was so bad that on a whim in a drug store I purchased a little blue tub of Nivea Creme. It was cheap, but I figured I'd give it a try as I've liked some of their other products, especially their post shave balm which helped with razor burn and bumps.

Now I had never used moisturizers or anything on my face before. I would just wash it with a face wash when I showered and went to bed. But a friend of mine was working at Vogue or GQ and got my gf a couple of free samples of this stuff called Crème de la Mer. She absolutely swore by and I could definitely see the improvement in her skin. But as you can see here, at nearly $200 per ounce it's not cheap. But I got curious as to what made it so effective beyond hte marketing hype.

This led me to looking into the ingredients, and what do you know? That tub of Nivea Creme I bought almost has the matches. In fact, numerous other people have written about them and most say their performance is essentially the same. So unless your name is Daddy Warbucks and you don't mind spending 40 times the amount for what is at best a negligible difference, go with the Nivea Creme.

I recommend using it after you wash in the evening, and just leave it on nice and thick overnight. Then in the morning, rub some on your face before after washing again, but really rub it in this time. Within about 24-48 hours you will be as good as new, if not better.

u/redtidepods · 1 pointr/oddlysatisfying

tip: if you don't like the shine on top, you can use women's "makeup primer" to hide the shine. It's basically an invisible lotion with ingredients that mattify (un-shine) the skin and control oil.

A lot of men's skincare lines are selling primer as "shave balm" and other skincare products to control shine.

Honestly, I always had issues with my scalp being dry and itchy...until I completely shaved my head. Not sure what was causing it but it went away instantly with all of my hair being gone.. Not sure how much hair is left with a zero, but I'd try shaving it and see what happens. I do use this Nivea aftershave

u/Hectoronthemoon · 1 pointr/wicked_edge

To prevent irritation you probably will want to have an alum block/stick and some Nivea for Men Sensitive After Shave Extra Soothing Balm. Make sure you have good prep also by making sure your beard is well hydrated. You might want to try a pre-shave oil to provide some extra protection.

u/FacelessBureaucrat · 1 pointr/malegrooming

No, I just splash cold water after and then I shower. A little of this stuff after. But YMMV, of course.

u/beelzebobcat · 1 pointr/Rateme

Definitely much better than before! You don't look as messy right now. Make sure to use enough styling product in your hair - not so that you can get rid of the curls, but so you can reduce the frizz and make the curls that you still have more defined.

The cut you had here is really cute as well, so you can still have longer curls if you want, as long as you make sure the cut is still short on the sides and your curls are well-defined (which I know takes work). Do not brush or comb your hair when it's dry (whatever cut you have), unless you're about to wash it. Curly hair frizzes like crazy if you do that. Use gel in wet hair to get nicely defined curls, and re-wet your hair every morning to style it. If you need hair help in future, /r/curlyhair is where you need to go.

I really like the clean-shaven look, it suits you well! It looks like you're getting some razor burn / irritation though, so I'd look into that. Make sure to shave with a sharp blade, use enough shaving cream (or substitute) so the razor glides over your skin easily, and use an after-shave balm without alcohol, like this one.

u/Destinyx3 · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

I go back and forth between using a primer and not, but I always use setting powder.

For reference, my skin type is Dehydrated/Combo leaning a little more towards oily. I use Skin79 Green BB Creme, Nivea After Shave Balm For Men (Non-AB) as a Primer, and Coty Air Spun Original (Non-AB) as a setting powder.

I have a desk job where I don't do much and generally wear lighter makeup, so usually I'll skip my primer. However, if I'm going out or planning to wear heavy makeup, I always do a primer, setting spray, and setting spray (just in case because of how oily my skin can get).

I'm planning on ditching my primer eventually and looking into Innisfree No Sebum Powder as my setting powder because of how highly recommended it is for oily people! I'll be eyeing this thread for primer recommendations :)

I suggest at least getting a setting powder and seeing if that does the trick. If not, try finding a primer that works for your skin and see if that help. If that doesn't work, add a setting spray and hopefully that should do the trick!

I have used this for a while
It's a little greasy perhaps and you don't want too much or it'll never rub in nicely but used in small amounts it does a good job and definitely leaves my skin feeling much nicer post shave than if I use nothing.
I've just made the move to a DE &amp; as part of that I have ordered a new Edwin Jagger aftershave balm I'll report back once I've had a week to test it out.

u/LarsSeprest · 1 pointr/wicked_edge

It is a rather mild after-shave that won't make a statement and is only there to help soothe and moisturize the skin.

Looking at that styptic pencil, you are paying for the packaging, as most pencils I've seen are just like loose candles.

Yes! Ladies, I highly, highly recommend using a spring facial hair remover if you don't already. The amount of time I save using this thing was well worth the $20 I paid for it. There are also much cheaper options, but I haven't tried them out, so I can't vouch for their effectiveness.

u/Ashlee863 · 1 pointr/crossdressing

waxed, plucked, and also used something called a spring sprong. Makeup did help pull off the look though

u/dsm-lxix · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Not the poster you replied to, but I've been using this one for years!

I use it once a week for maintenance. It doesn't remove hair as well as waxing does, but it gets maybe 97% off. I usually pluck a few of hairs after each use and I'm done!

u/nightowlbookworm · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

Have you tried the Spring Sprong?
Basically it's a spring that you roll across the areas you want to remove the hair from and it plucks the hair. It may sound painful, but as a woman who also suffers from facial hair, I couldn't recommend it more.
If you go to amazon you will see several kinds of spring hair removals. I've bought the original spring sprong (and when I thought I lost it) a cheaper knock off version. Having purchased both, take my advice and go with the original spring sprong, it's a little more flexible and in turn seems to pull out more hair in a pass. It does seem a little uncomfortable at first, but within the same session of hair pulling it will become numb and not be too bothersome.
Also if you do decide to use it, please take my advise and make sure to wash your face before AND after to avoid breakouts.
Really, I've tried waxing, plucking, bleaching, and this was by far my favorite way to address the issue.
This is a link to the one that seems to do the better job http://www.amazon.com/R-E-M-Spring-Facial-Hair-Remover/dp/B001FXUTUM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1414316126&amp;amp;sr=8-1&amp;amp;keywords=spring+sprong

edit: Just incase it seems oddly time consuming, I use it ever 3 or 4 days while I watch tv. I use to use it once every two weeks, but at 32, it's now easier to stay on top of to use it every couple of days while I'm watching tv. :) Any questions, I'd be happy to answer. Good luck.

Oh jeez, I'm sorry. was one of them the manual, spring-based one? That one has given me zero irritation, while the other two have given me some. Might be worth a try if you haven't tried it at all. Apologies if you've tried that too, I have too much brain fog to be able to tell. If you haven't and do pick one up, you can use it a tiny bit each day, and avoid aggravating your skin somewhat.

A straight? I hope you've got a very steady hand; those nicks can get pretty wicked. I wouldn't use one anywhere near my vag.

If you're just looking for a single bladed razor, check out /r/wicked_edge. I have vintage Gillette double edged safety razor that was my grandfather's. It gives a way better shave than regular disposable or cartridge razors (especially with my favorite Japanese blades), it's cheaper to own, and causes less irritation. I won't ever go back to flimsy plastic razors after using one of these babies for awhile.

Probably yeah. They're sold pretty well everywhere. I;m just talking about these ones, they'll have to do for DIY hair cutting. Hairstylists use a better version that's made for cutting hair. I'm not even positive it'll work. Just make sure you don't get two sided ones.

If you are just looking to dip your toe into the waters then pick up this guy from Amazon for $2. It will get to your house in about two weeks since it ships from hong kong. During that two weeks hit a local walmart or other appropriate store and pick up a pack of 10 safety razor blades also for less than $2.

Use some Barbasol if you don't have a shaving cream preference (you said beginner!) and go very slowly your first shave or two. As you learn the direction that your beard (or other assorted body hair) grows it will become easier to get cleaner shaves with less passes and less irritation, maybe a month tops.

If you don't like it, then using this method you're out less than $10.

Edit: I recommend the cheap Wilkinson Sword type razor blades to start. Once you get the hang of it pick up some Feather blades off of Amazon if your local stores don't sell them. Don't start with Feathers though you might knick your head off.

To be honest , I recently bought this and I have a norelco body groomer but it has all the attachments for it where I don't really even need the body groomer at this point. Only downfall is that I can't use it in the shower but meh, what ever. It is a hell of a beard trimmer too I must say. The foil trimmer gets pretty close on the body in sensitive areas if you get my drift...

no way a cheapo clipper set could ever beat out the closeness that a beard trimmer gets.

here's a really good trimmer that works quite well @ 30 bucks (~£15 equivalent)
http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Lithium-Ion-All-Trimmer/dp/B001GQ3GEY

you could use your technique... turning the beard trimmer upside down..and get a much closer cut that you would with a set of clippers.

u/us416 · 1 pointr/malegrooming

Talk to your partner to find out what they would prefer you do.

When I tidy up, I use one of these on the number 2 setting: http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Lithium-Ion-All-Trimmer/dp/B001GQ3GEY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1310011071&amp;amp;sr=8-2

After buzzing it down, I take a women's razor (shut up, the extra "guard" helps) to my cajones and make them baby smooth.

It's more work than I would normally do, but my wife loves me that way and if it gets me more action, I'm all for it.

u/CuntFaggotNiggerJew · 1 pointr/shaving

That's what I use: link

I use the trimmer blade. I don't think it has to do with this particular trimmer, because I've had other trimmers and they all cause razor bumps.

Basically, I'm trimming my beard at the shortest setting, and out of a sudden I get a "bump" on my face. It looks red, inflamed, exactly like a pimple, except there's no pus in it. They appear as I'm trimming, so it's really fast, it doesn't take hours. I tried to poke them with tweezers to see if I could find an ingrown hair, because that's what I thought they were, but I always end up not finding anything and making it worse. And no, they are not pimples that were hidden under my beard. I never let it grow too long, so I would notice them.

http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Lithium-Ion-Grooming-9854-600/dp/B001GQ3GEY

I don't like completely shaving because it gets itchy when it starts to grow back, so I usually just trim short enough that it's not curling all over the place. I think I use a #4 guard or somewhere around there, see what works out best for you. If you like the smoothness, then you can always use the trimmer everyday to keep short enough (there will still be some stubble if you don't use a razor but it will be minimal)

u/Piece_of_Maurice · 1 pointr/Wetshaving

don't have a goatee but i keep a full beard that i have to trim every week to keep it conservative-ish (i work in a hospital). i've used 3 beard trimmers over the years and this one by wahl is BY FAR the best one:

https://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Lithium-Ion-Grooming-9854-600/dp/B001GQ3GEY/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1479217356&amp;amp;sr=1-1&amp;amp;keywords=wall%2Bbeard&amp;amp;th=1

it's cordless and has a rechargeable battery which stays charged forever (other trimmers ive used have needed AA batteries), and the motor has serious power for a clipper thats not plugged into the wall. the guards that come with it are pretty good and you can really dial in the length you want. as far as shaping goes, I use a DE to shape my neck line and cheek line and have found that to be the best option that i've used, though i can't say i've used a shavette or straight. and since you use a template and the DE is too big to get around it, shavettes are purpose-built for getting great lines and edges, so as u/bdubelyew said that might be your best bet.

u/PeteyFalcon · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I cant speak for the clippers, but I will speak for THIS beard trimmer. I have had it for 4 years and it is my go to for shaping up my beard. I also have THIS Phillips Norelco trimmer as well but never use it. The Wahl is so much more sharper and precise. It is very easy to use and allows you to do fine and detailed trimming. The Wahl also was half the price of the Phillips.

As far as electric shavers go i have had the same Braun 4775 since 2006 and it is still going strong. All i have had to do is change out the blades once a year and keep it oiled. I always wanted a newer one, but this one refuses to die.

Oster Fast Feed clippers are good, doesn't come with a shit load of attachments you won't need, cuts through thick hair as well. If you think you need a shot load of attachments, try a Wahl brand, usually seen at CVS for $20 to $30. The Osters will run you $56 on Amazon. One thing that I can suggest is the Schick bikini trimmer. When I would shave, I would trim with this first, and it helped immensely since I spent so much less time shaving and irritating my skin. Also, I found that trimming as close as it would go was perfectly fine for me - it gives you a really close trim when you take the plastic guard off.

Then I discovered waxing. If you have the money to spend (depending on where you live, probably $45-75 per month), it is really the best option. It gets so incredibly smooth. Add some Bikini Zone or something similar to prevent bumps (which will be a lot less than what you'll get after shaving). Also, note that the first time will probably hurt a lot, but don't let this deter you. Each time you go back hurts drastically less. If you can get through the first wax, your fine for the rest.

I use the Schick quatrro with the electric bikini razor. And use baby powder and gentle lotion for sensitive skin.

u/Pheebalicious · 1 pointr/AskTrollX

I've used something like this but a different brand and I really liked it :)

u/travellinben · 1 pointr/travel

I backpack travel full time, so I use one these types that are sold everywhere now : http://www.amazon.com/Schick-Quattro-Trimstyle-Bikini-Trimmer/dp/B001TH8Q72 I find it works suprisingly well, and may for you depending on your guard needs, but I normally use the shortest settings. It's really light, uses a AAA battery and breaks down small for travel.

u/sonalis1092 · 1 pointr/TrollXChromosomes

I use this. It's pretty much the best thing ever. I found it at Walmart for like 10 bucks.

u/RubberDucky_Meow · 1 pointr/AskWomen

this will help, the trimmer can trim back what's there to make it easier to shave. Go slow if you are worried and take your time.

Thanks, excellent post there, managed to miss that somehow. I'm still not 100% sure on the brush, although I have decided I want to try to go for badger. I did read a lot about certain brands. I was thinking of a Colonel Conk brush and stand, can you say anything about that brand? Thanks again for the link to the post, still not sure how I missed it.

u/Araya213 · 1 pointr/wicked_edge

That's good news, do you know if it fits in the Col Conk brush/razor stand by the handle? That would be a bonus.

u/FlatBot · 1 pointr/wicked_edge

It came with this set.

I actually don't like it though. The handle on the brush knocks into the razor.

Is this the Col. Conk one you use? I've been thinking of getting something like this at some point:

I went with This Stand It's a little pricy, but it looks nice, and it works well, I had to cut little gasket type pieces of cardboard and put them in the base only to apply a little pressure, so the padded non slip base part stuck below the rest of the base, but it I'm happy with it. No experience parkers, but that's the same brush I used and it's quite a bargain.

u/montanasucks · 1 pointr/wicked_edge

The razor is a Lord L6 and the stand is a Colonel Ichabod Conk.

The brush and mug were purchased from the local Farmer's Market from a nice lady who makes homemade soaps. The soap is a disc in the mug and it is amazing. It is Bay Rum scent made with all sorts of oils and since I started using it over shave gel to shave with I have no razor burn or irritation. I am excited to do my first wet shave tomorrow!

I hate shaving, but I generally look best clean-shaven. Here’s my 2 tips to make the process as easy as possible.

  1. Shave in the shower. There’s no cleanup, and it makes for less razor burn.

  2. Use this stuff. They say you can use it in place of shave cream, but don’t do that. Use it underneath shave cream. You only need 2-3 drops to cover an entire face so it lasts a while. It keeps your face lubed up during the shave making for less nicking. I go over my whole face once, and then if there are any spots that don’t look right, I can just fix them real quick without needing to reapply cream.

I use a safety razor with regular razor blades. I bought 200 years ago and I still have plenty. Sometimes when I’m feeling kingly I use the disposable BIC two blade razors (without the lube strip). Those are a much easier to use, and while cheap, are still more expensive than a safety razor.
u/Noyes654 · 1 pointr/wicked_edge

I got my first taste by going to the local pharmacy store, picking up the VDH Starter Kit, a Styptic pencil, some Shave Secret, and bag of two blade disposables. After about a week, I went back and got aftershave lotion and went to Bath&amp;Body Works and got some C.O. Bigelow.

Just last week I finally decided to take the next step and I ordered a basic Lord DE, Blade sampler, and a nicer Brush. I can't wait for this all to come in. giddy

In some beauty circles shaving your face is said to benefit the skin by slightly exfoliating when you take the dead skin off with the hair ( http://nymag.com/thecut/2013/10/how-shaving-your-face-keeps-you-glowy-dermaplaning.html). However they also suggest using an eyebrow razor ( http://www.amazon.com/Tinkle-Eyebrow-Razor/dp/B002C89J96) at 45degrees to your face and dry. Its called dermal planing if you want to look it up. Basically, when people have looked into it, shaving, if done properly, will actually help your skin :)

u/Lumberchick · 1 pointr/TrollMUA

I vary between a soft and hard angle. When I started I got the too faced brow envy kit which was really helpful because it came with guides that I could follow along with. I also use a MAC clear gel to hold them in place as i brush them up I trim off the excess hairs with an eyebrow razor (you can find them almost anywhere.

But if you do this make sure you take off a little at a time, a little goes a long way.

Another thing you could do is get them Plucked by a professional. Plucking is ok but my electrolysis says that its a bad thing. Meh, I'm sure its fine for eyebrows.

Another way you could go is to get them threaded (which is nearly the same as plucking)

You could always go and get them waxed too but that wont thin out the hairs, only plucking and threading will do that ... unless you do that after, or they do it there too. (in my experience the waxing techs don't take excess hairs out.)

Wether you decide to get them waxed, plucked, or threaded make sure you ask around and use yelp to try and find a good place that does it. There are some places out there that are just not good.

At the end of the day just remember if you screw up, its just hair. it grows back. Life will continue.

I use these eyebrow razors. Easy to use, and fairly foolproof.

Alternatively, when you get your haircut, ask them to cleanup your brows as well.

u/cltphotogal · 1 pointr/AskWomenOver30

Tinkle razors! They're the best- they remove hair &amp; exfoliate.

https://www.amazon.com/Tinkle-NA-Eyebrow-Razor/dp/B002C89J96

u/Mellaaayy · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

first off you're gorgeous. for brows it depends on what you're going for. i like the thickness of your brows and i think you just need a little clean up around them. you can tweeze around them or use those mini eyebrow/face razors if you want something more shapely you can go to a professional and they'll help you out. to find out what you like best is really trial and error. try eyebrow pencils, pomades and powders. i also have minimal eyelid space lol. it's not a problem to work with. for your eye look to pop put your desired colour on the part of your eyelid that is visible when you open them. you can still deepen the crease by applying a deep brown shade in the crease and bring it just a little above it. i also keep my eyeliner quite thin.

u/greenso · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

I use veet and not even the kind specifically for your face. It leaves a bit of redness for a bit but nothing my foundation can't cover up. You can also use one of these things. Or buy waxing strips.

u/Pickled079 · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

They look good! Though instead of plucking, I’d recommend shaving with eyebrow razors because plucking the hair is bad for the follicle, but shaving doesn’t affect the follicle.

u/maria0307 · 1 pointr/teenagers

Wash your face. Try to find a soap that suits your skin type.
I really like Neutrogena's transparent facial bar. Neutrogena offers lots of soaps for different skin conditions. Or, use a simple soap, but do make sure you don't use it for washing another parts of the body.

Use face masks or creams depending on what you want.
If you want to get rid of acne and heal faster, I reccomend the Aztec Healing Clay Mask ( https://www.amazon.com/slp/aztec-clay-mask/cr7x9sux6dgn6rd )

Hydration is also very important, If your skin feels tight after washing it or using a dry facemask, then use cream or facial masks for skin hydrating.

The first days, I do reccomend you take out blackheads and pick your skin, but don't be too rough.

Extra:

If you get your skin to be as healthy as it can be, you can try to remove peach fuzz and facial hair with razors ( https://www.amazon.com/Tinkle-Eyebrow-Razor-Pack-3/dp/B002C89J96 ).
Also, Even out your eyebrows. Although, I reccomend threading.

If you do shave your facial hair, I reccomend being extra careful before and after doing this. As you can easily break out.

Have you tried a bodygroomer? Like this: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Norelco-BG2028-42-Bodygroom/dp/B007VB50JC/

They advertise them for men, and I must admit I didn't like it at first, but I've never had sensitivity issues/razor burn, or even as many ingrown hairs, since I started using an older model of this on my legs/privates. It doesn't get as close as a razor, which is annoying but probably why there doesn't seem to be that sensitivity reaction. It's also much easier, quicker, and costs less in the long run than razors.

Or at least its european version, but with the very same head. As a fairly hairy guy with a lot of curly body hair I must say that I'm not very impressed, but I haven't yet been impressed by a body trimmer. With guards it works just fine and makes my fur look way better without much effort, even though the combs scratch a little. Without guards it gets a bit tricky when I navigate around my pecs and the even stubble is not always quite achievable. Shaving works OK, there is no other way for me to shave my balls quicker.

Do what /u/velvetdesire said below. I picked these Dorco razors from Amazon. They are exactly the same as Dollar Shave Club and its cheaper. Plus, I don't tear through a razor head on a weekly basis. So getting charged X amount of dollars every month for blades I will use way down the line isn't ideal for me. Just reorder when you need to instead.

Only problem is they don't add as much marketing dust... so no fusion propenis plus vision bullshit where you can't keep track of what fucking cartridge to buy, and are saddled with compatibility problems.

u/Lokani · 1 pointr/videos

Might be worth getting one of their handles. I was going to have to buy some new cartridges for my Gillette anyway, they're around $20 for a box of 4. This was on Amazon, so I went ahead and bought it instead. The videos on Dorco's website say their cartridges are a standard "latch" thing, so if everything works out I'll just buy my refills in bulk from the Dorco site from now on.

EDIT: I went with the Amazon one since I still had a free trial of prime, so it was about a dollar cheaper. The Dorco site has the same offer with shipping at around $20.59.

u/KisslessVirginLoser · 1 pointr/wicked_edge

The dorco pace 6 has good reviews on amazon. Basically, it's seen as a much cheaper gillette-like razor. People are tired of paying big prices for their razors/refills, so they turn to dorco. If you don't like conventional cartridge razors (I expect you don't, that's the general opinion on this subreddit), well you probably won't like it. I haven't tried them, btw. Haven't tried any DE or SR either.

u/IMLOwl · 1 pointr/todayilearned

It isn't really that expensive though. I bought the Dorco razors from Amazon two years ago. They're the same ones Dollar Shave Club uses. It costs me literally less than a dollar a month to shave 'with bells and whistles' because I take 10 seconds every time I shave to take care of the blade. I'm not saying you're one, but shaving hipsters love to talk about how cheap regular safety razors are but then go out and spend $100 on a badger brush, $50 on a bowl, buy expensive skin oils and pre and post shave balms. So, i just wound up dropping a couple hundred dollars i didn't plan on before hand, heh.

&amp;#x200B;

had to buy a new razor because the damn handle i've been using for the 2 years or so broke on me while i was trying to switch blades. stupid thing had a tendency to stick. still, i liked the razor quite a bit, so i bought another one (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008O82O7C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&amp;th=1 if anyone's interested).

&amp;#x200B;

then i noticed that the shoes i tend to buy had dropped back down to less than $50 (they've been at $62-$70 for a few months now, i've been waiting to buy an extra pair for awhile, might as well get new shoes before i fly out to california, anyway.), so i grabbed a pair of those.

&amp;#x200B;

oh, and i grabbed a loofah on a stick for my dad to make it easier for him to wash in the shower due to his ankle.

&amp;#x200B;

and not long before that, i had decided to upgrade my phone. it's still a cheap android, but it's an improvement on the one i currently have.

&amp;#x200B;

the one i currently have was a $100 phone about 18 months ago, but i only paid $25 for it (50% off sale + $25 walmart giftcard. the one i just bought is also a $100, though there wasn't a sale.

&amp;#x200B;

basically, the main thing i was concerned about was more storage space. my current phone is a Samsung Galaxy J3 Luna with 8 GB of memory (actually half of that, due to system memory, and has no SD ports). upgrading to a Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown. has double the memory. and a new version of Android.

&amp;#x200B;

also grabbed the requisite screen protectors and a couple of phone cases for it.

-----------------------

eh, at least i'm actually able to afford to buy this crap now. been putting off buying a new phone for awhile.

What they are saying with a better razor right right, but may be only half the battle. I would suggest /r/wicked_edge

A good DE safety razor will end up being more expensive up front, but cheaper in the long run. You only replace the blade and not the whole razor head, and the blades are cheap. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/MERKUR-Classic-MK-34C-2-Piece-Double/dp/B002A8JO1Q/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Merkur+34C&amp;amp;qid=1574435969&amp;amp;sr=8-1

And then a blade pack like this: https://www.amazon.com/Excellent-Quality-Razor-Blades-different/dp/B07PH47B8M/ref=sr_1_4?crid=UP0JNWAD75K2&amp;amp;keywords=de+blade+sampler&amp;amp;qid=1574436020&amp;amp;sprefix=de+blade+%2Caps%2C162&amp;amp;sr=8-4

Soaps/creams a lot of people will recommend different things and your mileage will vary, but I think an after-treatment may be more important in your case. Some type of alum after-treatment works as a disinfectant and prevents ingrown hairs. I am guessing your "boils" will be more affected by an alum block than anything. https://www.amazon.com/Gentleman-Jon-Ounce-Block-Plastic/dp/B00FA35K02/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=alum+block&amp;amp;qid=1574436153&amp;amp;sr=8-4

I see people mentioned /r/bodyweightfitness start there.

Really you don't like the gym, because you haven't really gone to the gym. i shit you not, if you start on a basic lifting program, strong lifts, or starting strength. it will change your god damn life.

and don't say tone. no one knows what that means.

For deodorant. Why not try it old school with a plain old alum block?

Congratulations! You look great. I hope you continue to hit your fitness goals.

Also, fellow hairy guy here. If you've ever considered manscaping your back (and don't want to deal with waxing, which is costly), I recommend this bad boy.

I use this: https://www.amazon.com/MANGROOMER-Ultimate-Shaver-Absorber-Extreme/dp/B00FULYKG4

There was a really hilarious commercial but I can't find it.

Important though I want you to know that it's not a super close shave as far as electric shavers go, but cosmetically speaking it gets the job done.

For a much closer shave (but it's without the reach of the mangroomer, so either just use it where you can or have someone use it on you) I recommend the peanut shaver: https://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Professional-Clipper-Trimmer-8655-200/dp/B001FDKGIW

I recommend the MANGROOMER back shaver and/or the Norelco Bodygroom.

Mine is not noticeable at all but for some reason when my anxiety is out of control it drives me CRAZY and kind of pull/pick at it?? This has become necessary

Get the tiny Korean face razors. The six pack has prime shipping and is $5– Tinkle Eyebrow Razor Pack of 6 .Pretty not irritating, cheap, convenient, effective = win

If you have any suggestions or advice on how to go the dewy route, please do tell! You do it very well! I've always gone with matte foundations and have been too worried going into the dewy goddess realm.

I hear that dermablading (shaving) your face will help with makeup application if you didn't want to go the waxing route. I've used these guys to just touch up my eyebrow area if I can't find tweezers, but they work just as well on any other part of your face. But again, haven't gone and used them for my stache.

Can anyone else chime in on face shaving?

u/thisisforyall · 1 pointr/relationship_advice

Get her these to use instead of waxing. She’ll have to shave her stache more often than if she got it waxed, but it most likely won’t leave her all irritated. My girlfriend uses them all the time for this reason and for her stache.

I tweeze the thicker ones then use these “eyebrow razors” on the rest: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B014HNOXZS?psc=1&amp;amp;ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title

^I also use those for the peach fuzz I get on my upper lip. They don’t hurt or irritate my skin and I’ve used them for years and haven’t had any issues with the hair growing back thicker or anything

Not necessarily the cheapest up front, but for less than 3 haircut's worth you can just buy clippers and either do it yourself or have a friend/SO do it. I'd bet I've saved at least $300-400, not to mention you can cut it far more often.

These are good: https://www.amazon.com/OSTER-Adjustable-Pivot-Clipper-76023-510/dp/B001JJBC9Y/ref=sr_1_1_a_it (not a ref link)

It amazes me how many people are caught by the DSC trap even when they know full well of the superior alternative.

In case you somehow haven't heard and still falsely believe DSC is doing anything to save you money, follow this link and thank me with an upvote.

So cute! I love the different colors of pink in your eyeshadow, lips and hair. They go well together!! I bet you could experiment with incorporating a pink like your lips blended into your eyeshadow.

I know people have pointed out suggestions for your brows, I just wanted to add that I use these little facial razors to shape my brows: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014HNOXZS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_yWD-AbYWCC6ZF

Makes it super easy to get into those tight spots for a clean look, but without having to spend the time/hassle of plucking. Just a suggestion!

As a black man that suffers from this issue you folks have no idea how bad this can get.

If anyone out there is suffering from razor bumps and can't grow a beard, you have options.

Magic Shave is probably the best shave you can get without irritating your skin. It's expensive, but it works.

Barring that an electric razor designed for sensitive skin works too.

In general a blade should never touch your face.

If you get a case of the bumps and it's bad, you can't wait it out. It probably wont go away on its own.

You need to contact a dermatologist and get some antibiotics because you're dealing with an infection at that point.

At that point just don't touch your face, take the anti-biotics, suffer with a patchy beard for a little bit until your face clears up then use magic shave or an electric razor.
