1980's? I was still playing Screwball Scramble in the mid 90's!

Okay so I'm going to make a mass post of this whole thing based of what I've gathered on the internet.
So obviously there's a giant wienermobile inspired rick driving around, notice the awesome vanity plates and Mr. meeseeks Airdancers coming out of a meeseeks box.

Before we get to the merchandise I'd like to note that the stores will be open for around 2-4 hours depending on your location so check ahead online for your stores hours and be sure to get there around 3 hours early if you want to get everything you want as people mentioned the store has eventually sold out of product.

I'm not sure if this limited to 100 pin was specially made for this occasion or if they will be available at each stop.

Also not sure if these stickerswere given out or given with each purchase but they were also selling shirts of the same design you can buy online for $20

And now for the list:

poster* $10 (some people that were still in line once they closed up got one for free)

Funko plush $8 ($6 less than retail)

squanchy grow figure* $8 (homage to season 2 finale)

Funko pop figure $10 (equivalent to discounted retail price)

Rickmobile toy car(photos needed) $15

Meeseeks desktop whipper
(photos needed) $20

Aluminum retro spaceship(photos needed) $40

Meeseeks box o fun game $30

Monopoly $40 (better deal on amazon here)

sock pack $10 (~$2 less than discounted retail price)

Iron on patch set
(photos needed) $12

T-shirt* $20

Hoodie* $30

snapback hat* $20

backpack* $35

poopybutthole towel* $20

meeseeks ceramic jar set $30 (save on shipping at the rickmobile otherwise purchase here)

gwendolyn pool float* $40

*Rickmobile exclusive

And some photos of the merch setup

Edit: pretty impressed with myself that I got every item that was available, sorry to the stops who does have every piece of merch yet, more info and missing images on this photo list

Okay so if you can't make it to any of the stops and must resort to eBay, expect many people to go only to resell on there so don't pay crazy prices at first because the prices will always eventually drop. I would say don't pay more than double but I know what it's like to be really desperate for something.

Please help find More photos to help update this post.

Edit: I got autocorrected from more to Moreno and no one said anything

This is the shit I'm talking about. Don't pay these prices. The prices will get better as the rickmobile makes more stops.

> Do we know what version they were playing and what level they were?

We can guess that they were playing AD&D based on the DMG that Will put in the donations box.

EDIT: SOLVED - 1e Red Box, third level characters.

Incorrect.

The following is based on being able to buy a set of Monopoly Money for $13.98 shipped.
The actual exchange rates are:

  • MM to USD = 0.000844712990936555
  • ZWD to USD = 0.00276319

    -or-

  • USD to MM ~ 1183.8340
  • USD to ZWD ~ 361.900

    1183.834/361.9 = 3.2711...
So ZWD is worth well over three times as much as MM

The MM set linked above contains the following bills and their value was calculated as follows:

Face Value | Quantity | Bill Cost | Total Value
    ----------|--------|----------|-----------
    1.00 | 40 | 0.000844712990936555 | 0.0337885196374622
    5.00 | 40 | 0.00422356495468277 | 0.168942598187311
    10.00 | 40 | 0.00844712990936555 | 0.337885196374622
    20.00 | 48 | 0.0168942598187311 | 0.810924471299093
    50.00 | 23 | 0.0422356495468277 | 0.971419939577038
    100.00 | 23 | 0.0844712990936555 | 1.94283987915408
    500.00 | 23 | 0.422356495468277 | 9.71419939577038
    | | TOTAL: | 13.98

EDIT:This post is based on the last published exchange rate for the fourth Zimbabwean dollar. You can see the history and collapse in value of the Zimbabwean Dollar here; TIL always short the Zimbabwean dollar

Try Puerto Rico and Agricola.

Puerto Rico is faster to learn, and faster to play.

Agricola is way more in depth. The variety of Occupations and Minor Improvements make the game different every time. This game takes a while to learn how to play well, and can take a fair bit of time to play a game as well. So satisfying to win.

I'd also echo praise for Dominion and recommend starting with the Dominion Big Box.

u/MistahFixIt · 29 pointsr/funny

You can just buy packages of Monopoly money... you don't have to buy an entire game each time.

u/GallonOfLube · 26 pointsr/AskReddit

I own all of these (plus quite a few more), and enjoy playing them regularly. Prices are approximately accurate at places like Target, walmart, Amazon, etc. Most games below can be played by up to 4-6 players (some more), but all support a minimum of two. (An important distinction, as many games require 3 or more players.)

$5-10:

  • Scrabble/Monopoly are fun if you're both into the classics. For some reason, these are both almost $20 on Amazon, but I've seen them for under/around $10 each at Target/Walmart.
  • Scrabble Slam (card game) - sets Scrabble on it's ear and adds some adrenaline.
  • A copy of Hoyle's Rules of Games and a deck of cards.
  • Uno - One of my favorites - An absolute staple, and works with as many people as you want, though you might want to add a second deck for more than 4-5.
  • Phase 10 - kind of like a cross between Uno and Rummy.

    $10-20:

Here, we start getting into some really interesting ones...

  • Munchkin - One of my favorites - Like pen & paper RPGs? This makes fun of them ALL in a way only a true gamer would get. Plenty of expansions if you get bored.
  • Guillotine - You're each executioners during the French Revolution, trying to collect the most prestigious heads.
  • Gloom - You're each one of up to four tragedy-ridden families. Play misery-inducing cards on your family to make them as unhappy as possible before you shove them off into the hereafter, and play happy puppies and fluffy bunnies on your opponent to do the opposite.
  • Fluxx - The rules are the cards you play. Start with 3 cards, then draw 1 and play 1 each turn. Oh, but now it's draw 3 and play 1, so you'll need to draw 2 more to catch up. Now it's draw 3 and play 5, so play 4 to catch up, except that someone played inflation, so it's draw 4 and play 6... etc.
  • Citadels Out of the hundreds of games I've played over the years, this is the only one I've seen that claims to have "intrigue"... and really does. Play the role of various nobles, each with different abilities, to gain gold, build cities, and steal from/assassinate your opponents to prevent them from doing the same. The catch? You each play different roles each turn, and the roles are chosen part randomly, and part secretly, so that no one knows who is who until it's too late.

    $20-30

  • Carcassone - One of my favorites - Lay down tiles to build cities, roads and farmland, and place your followers to claim them for points. Just because you lay something down doesn't mean someone else won't claim it instead, and claiming it doesn't ensure that you keep it. Lots of strategy involved, and plenty of expansions if you want to change gameplay. Good for up to 5 players, or more with expansions. Has some similarities with Settlers of Catan, to be mentioned shortly.
  • Chez Geek, House Party Edition - You're all college kids in a dorm, trying to get the most slack points with fun/cool things to do, while reducing slack points in your opponents with annoying cards like car alarms (no sleep), the drunk friend (drinks all your slack-gaining booze), etc. The basic game is under $20, but it's worth it to buy the House Party Edition for $25, as it includes some expansions and extras.
  • Illuminati - I haven't played this yet, but from what I've read, it's a blast. By Steve Jackson Games, the makers of Munchkin.
  • Kill Dr. Lucky - Here's a quote from the rules: "You have hated Dr. Lucky for as long as you can remember, and you've been secretly awaiting this perfect chance to do the old man in. Maybe he destroyed your dry cleaning business; maybe you think he's the leader of the vampires. Perhaps he's the only person standing between you and the family fortune. Or maybe his cat just keeps peeing in your shrubs. Whatever your reason, its good enough to push you over the edge, and now you absolutely can't wait to take the lying old bastard down!"

    $30-50
A bit pricier here, but some very interesting gameplay is to be found.

  • Settlers of Catan - One of my favorites - no game shelf is complete without it - Build roads and settlements using the tradable resources provided by the areas around your settlements, and the roll of the dice. Note: This is not a two player game. I made an exception here because it rocks, but unfortunately you'll need a third wheel to play.
  • Dominion - One of my favorites - I grew up with Magic: The Gathering, but disliked always having to buy new cards to be competitive. Gameplay is somewhat similar to Magic, though instead of plinking away at your opponent's health, you are gaining victory points. Also, Dominion includes all of the cards you will need for up to 4 players, and you "build" your deck (similar to Magic), by buying new cards every turn.
  • Ticket to Ride - Build your train routes across the US (or Europe, if you get that edition) without revealing your destination, because your opponents might cut you off!
  • Small World - Kind of like a cross between Risk and... something else. Control territory to gain gold, using various races with special abilities. Send your races into decline (continuing to own the territory until it is taken), while expanding out with your new race. Knowing when to send a race into decline makes all the difference.
  • Red November - You're a bunch of drunken gnomes on a doomed submarine. Put out the fire by shunting the flooded compartment to the burning one, but now there are two flooded compartments and you have to pump them out while the engine has a problem and oh my god it's the kraken. INSANE gameplay, but can be stressful. This has skyrocketed in price (from $30 to $50), probably because they're about to release a revised edition, so the old one is out of print. You might want to wait a month for the new version to come out before you buy this.

I used to put Cross-Fire marbles in my mouth and slosh them around with a bunch of spit. One of these times, I wound up swallowing a decent number of them.

I was scared that they would never come out, but my mom told me that within a few days, I would poop them out. So for the next week, I dissected my poop, searching for the marbles. Never did find any.

amazon has a stack of monopoly money for 9 dollars, which leads to the same results - that venezuelan bolívar is stronger than mp dollars.

u/elboydo · 13 pointsr/CringeAnarchy

So, apparently this pack of monpoly money on amazon costs £8.99, I used the UK version as it is likely to have closer to the standard rate of Monopoly money, whereas the first search (JP amazon) will cost arguably more than most countries would really charge when charged at ¥3,650 ~ 25 gbp or 32 USD

For the Americans you would expect about 8.99:

https://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-28852-Monopoly-Money/dp/B00000IWCW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498576806&sr=8-1

Anyway, each pack of monopoly money consists of 30 notes in denominations of 1,5,10,20,50,100,500.

That would come to around 20,580 units of monopoly currency (₩ as the closest symbol )

To convert that (according to: http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?Amount=1&From=USD&To=ZWD):

JPY to ₩ (on Japanese Amazon prices): 5.63₩ per ¥100
JPY to ZWD: 322.140 ZWD per ¥100

GBP to ₩: 2,289₩ per £1
GBP to ZWD : 462.438 per £1

USD to ₩: 2,289₩ per $1
USD to ZWD : 361.900 per $1

So it would seem to not actually be quite as bad, although at one point it did peak at far higher numbers, as seen here (wiki source i know but still):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zimbabwean_dollar#Exchange_rate_history

Dec 2006: 3,000 ZWD to 1 USD

Dec 2007: 4,000,000 ZWD to USD

8 nov 2008: 29325 ZWD to 1 USD

November 2008: 1,200,000 ZWD to 1 USD

End Dec 2008: 2,000,000,000 ZWD to 1 USD

2nd Feb 2009: 300,000,000,000,000 ZWD to 1 USD

(End of Dec 2008 1.4376 USD to 1 GBP || 112 JPY to USD , feel free to transfer these as you like)

So effectively The ZWD was worse less than one unit of monopoly money from December 2006 in comparison to pretty much all 3 currencies provided.

Of course this does not reflect the inflation rate of monopoly money in such a quantity of time, however, I assume monopoly money to be a somewhat secure and stable investment in terms of currency, with a somewhat strong and stable exchange rate

What board games do you buy? Legendary is $50, Rising Sun is $100, and the dark souls board game OP linked was $80. Many board games are absolutely priced at $45 and up. In fact, I'd say that the majority of modern board games are priced above $30; the only ones consistently below that mark are light party games, and Hasbro/Milton-Bradley garbage. Besides, comedy companies making board games isn't even new: see Exploding Kittens and The Cyanide and Happiness game.

Escape: The Curse of the Temple - Honestly, an amazing filler, but expensive, especially if you're a game completionist. You barely notice that the 10 minutes is up =]

u/groundshop · 6 pointsr/lanparty

The lans I go to are too small to really bear much advice to you on the questions you listed.

Where I can provide some insight is in the types of table top games you should consider. Lots of folks (in the lan community) have been exposed to traditional pen/paper stuff like DnD. If you're looking to spice things up a bit, consider trying out some of the modern board games that are out. I'm sure some of your attendees will have already been exposed to these, but for the rest that haven't, they'll probably strike at least an interest or a few questions. BoardGameGeek has a list of the top board games out right now, some of which you might not have heard of. Settlers of Catan, Dominion, Race for the Galaxy, Carcassonne are some of the most popular. They're flashy, they're interesting, and they're usually under an hour (if not usually under 45 min) to play. They're an up and coming type of gaming that's spreading fast among the table-top/CCG/comics folks.

Edit: In retrospect, I kinda seem like a fanboy for this post, but holy shit they're really awesome games.

u/ifoundgoldbug · 6 pointsr/boardgames

the only common element between twilight emperium and BSG is that they have ships in space. TI is a strategy game and BSG is a semi cooperative hidden role game. You might have better luck with Dead of winter

edit: tl;dr: Wizards aren't very newbie-friendly, in my opinion. The fighter's math doesn't check out. Lastly, if you want to go the extra mile to help her out, you can do some quality of life improvements for her (spell cards, help pick out spells, etc.).

I've noticed a few things that won't help you now, but could probably help in the future.

  • Wizards are probably the least newbie-friendly class. They have a huge spell list, and they have to pick which spells to learn and prepare. It can be difficult to "fix" if you pick the "wrong" spells. (I think that most or all spells are useful, but some of them are a lot more situational than others.)
  • Clerics and druids are a lot more forgiving while still being full casters, since they automatically learn all of their spells. All of your prepared spells can be swapped out during an extended rest.

Additionally, if she's comparing herself against the fighter, I'd agree that she should feel a little underwhelming, but that's because the fighter's math doesn't add up, even for two of them.

  • How on earth is the fighter doing 20-30 damage on a hit, and two or three times per round (even with a helper)? I can see that being possible if they're using a greatsword and using the GWM feat, but your wizard girlfriend should be hitting a lot more often, even if she has just 14 intelligence. That GWM accuracy penalty could be offset if the fighter is a battle master and uses the precise attack maneuver all the time, but still, 30 damage is only attainable on crits while power attacking.
  • The 20-30 damage should also be only once per round, plus one action surge per short rest, and maybe once more as a bonus action if they kill or crit if they took the GWM feat. Neither of those extra attacks are reliable or frequent, though. If they're hitting two or three times per round, then at least one of the fighters should be dual wielding (since they only get extra attack at level 5, and you mentioned they're level 4), which should have an average damage of around 10.5 per hit. 20 damage per hit is infeasible while dual wielding, even on a crit, unless they have a flametongue or something.
  • How is the NPC girlfriend treated? Is she an extension of the dwarf fighter, or is she her own character? Even the math for the dwarf fighter checks out, you should consider making the NPC girlfriend leave the party unless you're balancing everything for the extra character, and the extra character is not just an extension of the dwarf. If the human fighter is an independent character, then of course they'll do the majority of the damage, because they're two characters and the wizard is just one.

As far as stuff you can do going forward, I do have a few recommendations.

  • Advantage from flanking is a variant rule in the DMG, not something that's "core." I would not recommend using it, either, since advantage is much stronger than in previous editions, and flanking is pretty easy to achieve.
  • If you have the money, buy some spell cards for her - they're not perfect, and a lot of the longer spell descriptions are appreviated, but they're fantastic for knowing what you have and what you can use. If you don't have the disposable cash, you could make your own, but that can be an arduous task.
  • At the end of each extended rest (at least for a little while), you could ask her what spells she has prepared, and review it with her. If she has any big omissions (AoE damage, single target damage, anything situation-specific that her character knows about), you could point them out to her. My DM does this anyway just so that he knows what we have prepared so that he can bookmark the appropriate PHB pages for easy reference, haha.
  • If you want to correct the non-min-maxing in a particular way, you could give her a magic item that complements her weaknesses - probably a magical wand or something that adds +1 to her spell attacks and save DCs. That wouldn't upset the balance too much, right?
u/That_Which_Lurks · 6 pointsr/dndnext

Definitely disagree with allowing it to influence other creatures. Played a sort of one-shot as the demons from Out of the Abyss. We had misunderstood how timestop isn't allowed to influence other creatures because we were using the spell cards and that piece isn't on the card. It ended up completely wiping out one of the demons in a single use of timestop from close to full health. It is ridiculously overpowered in my opinion if it can do that...

Pandemic - Base game. You move around a map, remove cubes, and collect 5 of each color card to win. Co-op. 1-4 players.

On the Brink - An expansion for Pandemic. Adds some more roles and a few variants. 5 players max now.

In the Lab - Another expansion for Pandemic. This is the good one. Adds some roles and variants. Playable up to 6 players in a team variant. Adds an actual good win condition in the lab variant instead of the 5 card stuff.

State of Emergency - The newest expansion for Pandemic. Least liked. Adds a few variants and roles.

Pandemic: The Cure - A stand-alone game. This could be considered Pandemic the Dice Game. Much like Bang!, this dice game takes the long setup and play and puts it in a much more fun box. Playable for 1-5. Portable as well.

Pandemic: Contagion - The only game with the Pandemic brand not by the same designer, this is a stand-alone game where you control a disease with the aim of beating all other players. 2-5 players. This is the least liked of all the games and is really Pandemic in name only.

Pandemic: Legacy - The new hotness. The most expensive of them all. 2-4 players. 12-24 plays and then you throw a $60 game in the garbage.

Anyone interested in a Dark Souls board game should check out the Mage Knight Board Game. It's has combat, exploration, boss battles, single player, pvp...it's basically already the Dark Souls board game.

u/nerga · 5 pointsr/rpg

This might belong a bit more in /r/boardgames but regardless...

The dnd board games can actually be pretty fun. I like the dungeon delver board games. A good board game you might like if you like these type of games is mageknight that also follows a similar play style (though pseudo random generation with different mechanics) of going through a world and getting stronger.

If you like these board games, but want to delve more into tabletop rpgs look into something like DnD 5th edition or the starter set. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I think the starter set has everything you need for a small adventure, and if you get the basic book you can continue the characters if you want.

I am distinguishing between these rpg/dungeon crawler board games and rpgs. This might confuse you, so I will go more into what's different. In the rpg/dungeon crawler board games there may or may not be a dungeon master (someone who controls the game other than the players), in pen and paper rpgs this sub focuses on most of the time there is a separate player running the game. The main difference though is that a pen and paper rpg relies more on imagination, improvisation, and give much more freedom. In a game as you linked, you typically kill monsters, get some xp, and then just get stronger. You don't have much choice in how your character develops typically. Also the story is usually very linear as well. You progress, you get small tidbits of story, but the main goal is to just complete the dungeons. This is reverse of pen and paper rpgs, classic dnd being the main example. In these you normally focus on the story, the dungeons and fights being the obstacles to that. You also are not focused on a grid the whole time, you can have grid based combat, but there are a lot of "off the grid" moments where the board game variants are typically all on the grid.

They are both fun, are similar and related, but differ in a pretty fundamental way.

Two options:

  1. Free

  1. Buy premade cards:

  • Elemental
  • Bard
  • Paladin
  • Ranger
  • Druid
  • Cleric
  • Arcane

I have not yet personally bought the premade cards yet, but I have heard other mention that they don't have overlaps. In other words, if you bought say the Cleric set you would be missing any spells considered Arcane that the Cleric can learn. Even if you only want the Druid or Cleric you're probably going to need to buy 4-5 sets if you want all the skills for those two classes. In this case, it might be worth buying the two sets you want and filling in the blanks with the first option until you can afford the rest (I'm just making the assumption you don't want to drop $100 on spell cards all in one go here).

Thats 5$

https://www.pathofexile.com/shop/category/hideout-decorations#microtransaction-HideoutArcaneThrone

Thats 25$. If i check Amazon for stuff below 25$ i can find some real nice and usefull stuff, so using that for a piece of my hideout that i can even interact with feels like.. idk. You could invest into Pandemic with its current discount. You are also half way into Pandemic Legacy which is super good. With its current discount its even 25% of a copy of Gloomhaven which has easily over 100 hours of content.

I get the expensive armor and semi-expensive skill effects, since you see them, in theory, all the time but a weird chair in your hideout that you cant sit in? I dont know how i could justify that when i compare it to some of the boardgames i have on my shelf (given, those games are on discount currently, but still.)

https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Gathering-Arena-Planeswalkers-Game/dp/B00SDJGCRA

https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Gathering-Planeswalkers-Shadows-Innistrad/dp/B01ALHAFFQ/

PRO:

For <$50 (on Amazon only - anywhere else, each game is $20-$50), you get 65-70 minifigs, of which 12 are painted. It includes elemental-looking guys, warriors, goblins, zombies, eldritch abominations, birds, beasts, and more.

If you use the Planeswalker characters or normal D&D minis as your PCs, you have an instant distinction between your PCs and enemies - because the enemies are all mono-colored plastic.

In addition, if you have several groups of enemy types in your encounters it's easy to designate groups by color. I've run several encounters where one group of baddies were in green and the other group were in red- just to break up the initiative order.

You also get a pretty fun game that goes with all this stuff, hex tiles if you want to use those, and some other props.

CONS:

The figures are a touch bigger than standard D&D figures. If you have 9 of these guys packed into in a 15'x15' room on a standard 1" grid, they aren't going to fit very comfortably and probably push or spill into other spaces. It's not too bad though.

In addition, they don't match 1:1 with D&D in general in the sense that you'll likely use some human-looking guy for a goblin at some point. It doesn't bother me much, but if bothers you, that could be a problem.

You should try Legendary. It is my favorite deck-building game, and quite possibly my favorite game of all-time. The Marvel theme makes it accessible and interesting for all sorts of players, including the casual Marvel fan. There are great mechanics and there are plenty of themed expansions (like X-Men, GotG, and the Civil War storyline), each which bring new mechanics to the table.

Check out this playthrough on Wil Wheaton's Tabletop! You can also visit us over at /r/legendarymarvel

u/BreakInc · 3 pointsr/gaming

Dead of Winter is a great game, takes quite a while to set up though, and maybe not really a game that you can play casually.
Dominion is more of a card game, but there are many expansions.
Following the card game theme, you also have Legendary. Both Legendary and Dominion are deck building games, Legendary is Marvel themed and I believe have other versions/expansions.
Superfight is a debating game, I really enjoy playing this with a lot of people, I got into an hour debate with my dad over who would win in a fight, a samurai, or a 7 member boy band.

I have some more recommendations that just aren't coming to mind right now. If you want to know more about a particular game, feel free to PM me. I really love Board games.

Some abilities you can use turn-after-turn.

Some abilities you can use once every 5e Short Rest, or once every 3e encounter.

Some abilities you can use once every 5e Long Rest, or once every 3e "8-hour rest".

If this is your definition of "variable cooldowns", 4e was not significantly different from its successor nor its predecessor.

I mean, 5e also has spell cards anyway.

u/De_Vermis_Mysteriis · 3 pointsr/DnD

Lots of links ahead, hopefully it helps ya!

I Read...
ALL THE THINGS!

I DM in the Forgotten Realms/Planescape/Spelljammer (They're all kinda linked by nature) so I spend a lot of time browsing classic Volo's Guides, Elminster's Ecologies, Dungeon/Dragon issues, and Candlekeep Forums are super handy for some quick inspiration or detail on a particular point of interest. You will find NO better FR resource than Candlekeep, even Ed Greenwood answers our questions there very regularly.

I also use tabs all over the damn place, it makes my books look like a hedgehog sometimes but it also helps with rapid flipping around mid encounter.

Encounter cards.

I use 3x5 index cards that I just hand write on usually with quick HP, AC, Init, gear information. I have pre-printed versions I made for the most common of common creatures like Orcs, Slimes etc.
I set these all aside in one spot.

Minis

I spend all the cash collecting books so I kinda neglected minis...for 27 years. Sad, right? Anyway I printed out a shit ton of pages from the ever useful Pathfinder Pawns sets and I (tediously) cut them out by hand, double sided two sheets, tape all 4 edges, and use binder clips to stand them up. Viola! Long lasting cheap as dirt minis with a diversity higher than you can usually buy in 3d form. I pop em into clips as I can usually predict encounters ahead of time, even as an improv DM.

MAPS!

I'm a digital hoarder, I have ~2000 battlemaps from everywhere I have collected. Thus I probably have something for almost any situation that will pop up. Worse case, I just tweak my descriptions to resemble the map available. I also use Virtual Battlemap on STEAM to make my own 3d animated maps but time constraints limit the time I can actually spend on this. Also, again as an improv DM it's pointless to make a crap ton of maps myself ahead of time because of how gameplay actually works. Here are a couple shots I made myself though.
These are projected on the table via ceiling mount projector.

For obvious places that we visit a lot I have city maps (like Suzail) made up with a key on the other side. Since I run these places A LOT I made them pretty high quality but still on the cheap. This helps me remember where things are, places etc etc which is important in multi-year campaigns. You can make cool PC versions also that will hold up well being passed around the gaming table for months if you use good photo paper!

Dungeons? Make a DM copy and scrawl any noted you need like this. 5e book maps are HORRIBLE, tiny and stuck in a book so take them out like this so you again have an easy to grab fast reference for YOU. That example is from an early crawl the group did several months back with my notes on it.

SPELLS

I use the retail D&D spell cards usually, but also supplement them with various iOS and Android apps because there are quite a few new spells in the game that are not printed yet in a new set. I make little spell books for the casters ahead of time. It's really only useful spells, not ALL spells. It's not like that Kobold Necromancer is going to live long enough to use half of them anyway.

NAMES

I created, using various generators I like, lists of NPC names in dual columns. Here you can see my actual probably-drank-to-much mid game notes! Each sheet is color coded. RED Human, BROWN dwarf, ELF green etc. I did this for every common NPC race. So instead of having to create a name on the damn spot I can just grab the sheet, look at "Oh Male Elf...hummm OH this works!" and pop it out. Then I write on the sheet who now owns that name. It helps organize all the NPC's for my frail memory and speeds up npc creation table side drastically in those sudden improv situations where the PC's decide to go bug some random NPC for muffins or something.

ETC

Anything beyond that is highly variable session to session. That depends on the group/situation...a personal oddity that my players noted is how I go into way to much detail describing the flavor and texture of every beer they ever order in game. Thats because i'm an admitted beer snob. To help my beer-love I utilize a printed chapter (because I don't use my original copy at the table, it's to old) from Auras Whole Realms that can be transplanted into ANY GAME! It's a good 15 pages or so of just beer, wine, mead, ale, and liquor with cool names and descriptions and history. It's a minor thing but it helps with those sudden PC questions like "What's on the menu?" that might suprise you.

u/Stonar · 3 pointsr/DnD

Much of the fifth edition rulebook is covered under the SRD, and therefore is open source. Spells are not. Therefore, the only materials that can legally reproduce spell descriptions are those released by Wizards. Wizards has no digital offering for 5e that includes spells.

I use the official spell cards: https://www.amazon.com/Next-Arcane-Spell-Deck-73904/dp/B00P81YZS4 (they exist for non-arcane casters, as well.) You can, of course, type up or write up your own solutions as long as you don't publish them, but unfortunately there is no good answer to your question that doesn't violate the rules of the subreddit (and, you know, the law.)

You can talk to them. In person. Respectfully and clearly.
Maybe try to brainstorm with the group on how to make this work. Maybe no phones except at break times that are scheduled throughout. Or you find a way to play on another night somehow. But you need to talk to them.
Have that out of game meeting. Be polite but clear.

Frankly, I find it incredibly rude for them to always be on their phones but if they made it clear from the beginning that the Fantasy League is their priority then you actually kind of set yourself up for this issue. The two priorities are not compatible. If they are always on their phones they cannot pay attention to the game, which makes it much harder to get engaged in the game which means that all your hard work and their main purpose for being there (to play DnD) goes down the tubes. Maybe this just isn't going to work out. You need to really think about that. Are you willing to keep going as is? Kick players out? Do something else with this group on that night and find another group to DM for on a different night? Honestly, if they are really prioritizing Fantasy League over the game it seems kind of pointless to keep going unless you want to shift focus to a casual game that has little to no plot and they are just there to goof off.

If they don't want to prioritize the DnD game, be honest with your players that this is not fun for you anymore and you are tired of putting in all the prep behind the scenes for something you no longer enjoy. You think you would like to end the game if playing really isn't something they are truly interested in and willing to invest time into. Don't be angry or hurt. Just matter of fact. Share that you are putting a lot of time and effort into things behind the scenes but it won't ever matter if they really don't care.

Ask them honestly if they want to continue with DnD in particular or if they really don't care as long as they have something fun to do together. If they want to do something else instead that doesn't require so much effort from you, bring up other options. There are great board games out there that might work better, including a Pandemic game where consequences from the previous session carry over. It is sort of like an RPG in a way. https://www.amazon.com/Pandemic-Legacy-Season-1-Blue/dp/B00TQ5SEAI/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=pandemic&qid=1572379404&sr=8-3

Then consider on a different night doing DnD with some other group that can prioritize the game.

D&D really boils down to roll a d20 and add or subtract a modifier, they should be able to understand it fairly easily. And just run a straight forward dungeon crawl adventure like Sunless Citadel from the Tales From the Yawning Portal book.

D&D also just put out young adventurers books. And a series of choose your own adventure books.

Hero Kids is also a good option and has tons of free pdf stuff available. And then there is also Mouse Guard which uses a version of the Burning Wheel system. Mouse Guard has several cool graphic novels good for kids those ages.

Finally, the Fantasy Flight Star Wars games would be very good for kids. Kids know Star Wars so they don't have to learn the setting and can dive right in. The Edge of the Empire starter set has everything you need and a really good intro adventure.

u/neilandherson · 2 pointsr/rpg

Take a look at the Edge of the Empire beginner box https://www.amazon.com/Fantasy-Flight-Games-SWE01-Beginner/dp/1616615931/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495641481&sr=8-1&keywords=edge+of+the+empire+beginner+game

Also take a look at some micro RPGs, they tend to be easier to get into due to less rules and you can try out different genres while getting used to the idea of playing a role. Games like; All out of Bubblegum, Everyone is John, Lasers and Feelings, and Dr. Magnethands are all great places to start with RPGs.

u/tannerifl · 2 pointsr/DungeonsAndDragons

I dunno how much you know so I'll assume not much. RPGs are just "collaborative improvised storytelling" If you're interested in the Star Wars RPG then you're in luck. It doesn't take a lot of money to "dive" in. It actually takes about 25 bucks. You'll get a handful of odd dice, a premade adventure and several premade characters that are all tied into the story. The first adventure even typically teaches the players how to play as they go. The publisher for the system has 4 "seperate" systems for the SW universe, you just need to pick one that fits your groups desires. Generally they are

-Edge of the Empire- you are mercenaries or criminals, generally less force/jedi focused, typically set between the prequels and originals

-Age of Rebellion- you ARE rebels, set during the war, its about military stuff

-Force and destiny- Pretty much all players are force sensitive and is also set during the height of the galactic civil war

-Force awakens- setting is just before the Force Awakens, some force sensitives and jedis

That being said they are all compatible with each other with minor differences such as morality, or duty.
I like edge of the empire a bunch because there is nothing specifically "expected" of the players but being a jedi is fun. Another commenter suggested the oneshot podcast, they don't exactly teach you the game but theyre pretty fun if you have a lot of time on your hands.

If you liked the game then you can dive in deeper and get the core rule book, followed possibly by premade adventures if you want more help or inspiration

here are some of the starters

It wasn't catered. A couple people each Friday got some cash from our CEO and got all the stuff we needed just before lunch. Then a couple people would typically volunteer to do the cooking if they knew how.

We had a big break room where every one would eat together and hang out or if it was nice out we would all eat outside.

It was made clear that it was ok to not be working during these times. It wasnt manditory that we stuck around to eat but when people know that every one is ok with them not working then they usually stick around.

Another thing that really worked was games at lunch. We used to play magic the gathering almost every day during our lunch break. We would also play Carcassonne.

This all went hand in hand with making sure estimates on projects were wide enough. More often than not we delivered early and very seldom had days where working threw lunch or over time was needed.

Within the summary section I always prefer to have flavor text and an actual breakdown of the gameplay early on so I can wrap my head around it. Example is that you have the flavor text:

>With that in mind, balance your work force, make some money, and when the time is right - Downsize!

I feel the instructions would benefit from also explaining the actual end game conditions in a quick blurb at the top (something to the effects of: "When all return cards have been collected, the game is over and players tally their returns against their losses with the highest scoring player declared the winner.") For me, knowing how the game plays and ends, at a glance (even without knowing all the keywords) is helpful.

I didn't quite understand the benefit / reasoning behind splitting the returns piles into 3. Perhaps I was missing something?

I really liked the pairs powers and the different interactions that you added. However i am not sure I am excited with the PR cards specifically. For example: Legal & Corporate vs Corporate & Public Relations. One is a Hire 2, one is a Hire1. I guess looking over the specifics I feel I'd rarely utilize PR (If I want to give 1, why not aim to give 2?) and wish there was a bit more options within the pairs. Perhaps that would make the game a bit too complex but I wouldnt mind a (Trade a return card with another opponents random return card) or activate to discard and draw that many workers. Shuffle the deck. Do you feel PR is balanced well right now in the games you've tried? What about Legal? ( I feel making folks lose a legal card isnt that big of a loss since its only purpose is to gain 1 returns (with investment) or have others lose a legal (with PR))

That being said I haven't played the game so perhaps the balance is there and I haven't seen it in action. All and all I really think it has some neat elements and thanks for sharing. Let me know if there is ever a PnP version out there :D

But you are literally saying the exact same thing xTheOOBx was saying other than "I don't agree".

If the game is well stocked, it is significantly cheaper than local stores. If it isn't well stocked, it is only a little bit cheaper than your local stores. The only exception is MayFair games, where they have a cap on their retail discount.

Boardgameprices: Mage Knight. I guess it won't give you the ''official'' price, but does readily display a price comparison across a number of online stores.

My (F)GLS quoted it at $60.

Edit: CCC shows the average Amazon price to be $55.31.

If you can find a local game store, I'd go and ask what their policy is on returns. You could just go with a gift card to the place, though I know that can be impersonal, but if they allow it on unopened games, I'd get him something small like Zombie Dice, Hive, Codenames, Forbidden Island, or Sushi Go (all between $5 and $20 generally). If he has the game he can return it for some dice, or something else he needs, but I think the thought of going out and researching what good games are out there is nice.

Hive

Jaiper

3 games that are on my wish list. I have not played them myself, but I have heard good things.

u/Sayoshinn · 2 pointsr/boardgames

How about Jaipur or Hive Pocket? Mr Jack Pocket is also wonderful. Star Realms is the best micro game of the year IMHO, and scales past 2P with multiple decks. Coup is also a lot of fun and quick. I personally do not like Cheaty Mages at all.

u/Squ4d13 · 2 pointsr/boardgames

7 Wonders is a great game too. My group just recently started playing this one, and we are really enjoying it. Still haven't picked up any of the expansions yet, but looking forward to them. Another game that might be good to start out with is King of Tokyo, or if you don't mind waiting until October you could get the next installment King of New York. We also like Smash Up as of late, and it is easy to learn as well.

u/Toastly · 2 pointsr/AskMen

So let's say you're the 'nerd' type, but not really a huge 'nerd'. You like to watch art house films and listening to small bands but don't look down on others for their taste in music or look like a color co-ordinated homeless person with a mustache and huge rimmed glasses.

Then Smashup is the game for you! It's like Magic the Gathering, but with more possibilities and less drawers full of lands and minions! It's like dungeons and dragons insomuch that it plays off of fantasy and sci-fi tropes established by genres of movies, television, and folk stories.

It's highly addictive, once you get it it'll be hard to stop playing it with friends.

We are all about 2-player games! Off the top of my head, we love Quarriors and DC Deck Building Game. Both can be played with groups of people but also work well with just the two of us. (There's a Marvel Deck Building Game too, but the gameplay is completely different and not as fun in my opinion. It's similar to Sentinels of the Multiverse where the team is fighting together to beat the enemy.)

Most anywhere you'd buy the Player's Handbook or the Dungeon Master's Guide, I would think. Your local game shop, Amazon.com...

For example:

https://www.amazon.com/Next-Arcane-Spell-Deck-73904/dp/B00P81YZS4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467255825&sr=8-1&keywords=d%26d+spell+cards

They've got a pack of cards with each spell for each of the spell types--Arcane, Cleric, Druid, Ranger, etc. They also make cards with spells for Cleric Domains, for racial abilities, and for some other special abilities too.

u/zeekaran · 2 pointsr/dndnext

Here. Good luck finding them in stores near you, because the holidays wiped out the stock. They used to be available for Amazon Prime, but even those are gone.

Very high quality, not too expensive, each class has a unique style to them, and it should greatly reduce the need for every player having a laptop in front of them.

The only real disappointment with this set is that for some inexplicable reason they printed giant lore-filled informational panels on the back of each interlocking piece for the gameboard instead of making a second alternate landscape to play on. Lucky they did make double sided board pieces with the second game in this series.

Ok. This a bit tricky. I'm aware that you want an adventure recommendation, but you need a system to play in as well.

With that in mind . . .

You might look at D&D 5e. Most of the adventure league adventures are pretty good and made to be run in one evening (double-check which ones).

  • The basic rules are available for free, so see how you feel about those - http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules
  • Then you would just need at least one set of dice (more is better but you could just use an online dice roller) and an adventure.
  • Pick up some pregen characters or use DND Beyond for quick and easy characters.

Edge of the Empire beginner box is Star Wars, but you could easily pretend it's just some sci-fi.

  • The beginner box will give you everything you need for a one-shot including pregen characters, dice and an adventure.
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-Edge-Empire-Beginner/dp/1616615931
  • It's pretty straightforward once you get your head around the dice.

Both of those are good systems, and they're well-known so easy to find advice on. They've also good for "beginners" because they have fairly solid rules. This means everyone can focus on the action, because it's easy to know what to do when a player wants to do something.

Alternatively, your best bet for a gmless system is probably Fiasco. It's designed to be played in one evening. You make up the one-shot and characters and decide what happens as you go by rolling on tables and working together to tell the story.
u/traken · 1 pointr/rpg

Check out rahdo's run through of The Great Zimbabwe to see if it's something you'd be interested in. It's at the top of my own list for games I want that are too expensive to buy for myself (it's over $100 due to rarity).

Maybe also take a look through his other run-throughs to see if there are other games you and your SO would enjoy (rahdo specializes in 2p games, which he plays with his wife).

Some other ideas:

Tash-Kalar, a fantasy themed 2 player abstract game where you create patterns on a board to "summon" creatures and score points.

Dominion and some expansions (maybe even the Big Box version). Dominion is a deck building game, taking inspiration from the pre-game effort of CCGs, which may appeal to your fiancé.

Escape, a real-time co-op game which you may enjoy since you list two co-ops (this one is very different though).

Congrats on your upcoming nuptials!

Here's what I'd do if I had to rebuild a collection from scratch for $1k trying to have a wide variety of play styles:

7 Wonders $32.99
Agricola $45.79
Battlestar Galactica $39.97
Carcassonne $30.02
Carcassonne Inns & Cathedrals$15.71
Dixit $22.65
Dominion Big Box $69.18 Prosperity is one of the best expansions; Alchemy is not, but you're pretty much getting it for free in this set.
Eclipse $61.49 It wouldn't be a board game library without a 4X game, and I think Eclipse is the best currently.
Eldritch Horror $40.47 - I love Arkham Horror, but Eldritch streamlines a lot of the fiddly rules of the original.

Race for the Galaxy $24.11
Resistance, The $17.99
Roborally $37.49
Settlers of Catan $37.99

Ticket to Ride 1910 Expansion $18.21
Tsuro $24.22
Twilight Struggle $49.98

Wits & Wagers $19.99

That comes up to $946.47; room for a couple more expansions or another game.

u/schm0 · 1 pointr/boardgames

Base game Dominion is not dull, unless it's all you have to play for 10+ games. If you really want to get a head start, get the Dominion Big Box, which is a steal considering the expansions themselves go for $20 and $30 a piece. (Or a nightmare, if you happen to hate Alchemy.)

Alternatively, for the same $60 you can get Dominion and an expansion for around the same price. I'd recommend starting with Intrigue.

We had the base game for quite a while and still managed to play many rounds before growing a bit tired. It's not that the base game is dull, it's that the game opens up so much more when there are more cards to choose from. The expansions really add a ton of replayability and, honestly, it's this knowledge that make people describe the base game as dull.

Unless, of course, you are referring to the theme. In this case, I can't help you, only to say that the theme is the least important thing about the game. It plays so well you won't even notice it.

Wow, we have a similar taste in games, Awesome. I can't believe you actually expect me to suggest just one game with soo many great games that I have played... and so many more I have yet to play.

1st off some games you don't own but are on your wishlist and you should definitely get asap, since they are the go to games my friends and I play when we get together. Given they are on your wishlist I assume I don't have to describe them to you. Lords of waterdeep, a fun easy to play D&D game, Star trek Catan if you want something a bit different from regular Catan, and Dominion.

Ok. Now games you don't know about... How about a couple categories and 1 game per cat. so I don't ramble on too much.

Fast and Easy: King of Tokyo You and your friends are monsters trying to take over Tokyo. Roll some dice, attack your friends, but mostly just try to survive till the end. It's easy to set up, learn, and get going not so easy to win.

Slow, Complicated, strategic, with lots of pieces, and fun, but may make you want to stab a friend by the end: Twilight Imperium This game take a long time to play... seriously like a whole day. So maybe not the best for a board game night. If you can get a day with friends to play it, I would say it's worth the time. Basically you build a universe, pick a race to play as, and then proceed to form alliances or start wars with everyone else. With a healthy dose of backstabbing those alliances so you can win :p Use resources to build a fleet of ships and an army of troops then try to take over all of space while defending all your new territory. Moves are turn based so your plot to take over a planet can be ruined by a friend blocking your path or crippling your fleet.

The only real downside is the time it takes to play the game. We usually have to set aside a saturday to play. Getting started around 11-noonish and finishing up around 6-7. That said nothing is quite as satisfying as moving an entire fleet of ships to take over everything owned by your neighbor.

oh I forgot to add SPPrincesa is the goddess of all things board games.

A couple of additional suggestions - since I don't really like Castles of Burgundy, and I haven't played 7 Wonders Duel.

Just because it's so small, cheap, and still a great game, you should get Mint Works. Kickstarter campaign just finished, and you should still be able to get a copy here. Quick, plays up to 4, and has real strategy. A similar idea is Eight Minute Empires Legends - a small, quick game with real strategy.

Bigger, deeper games - I'm a big fan of Isle of Skye. It's a bit Carcasonne-y, in that you're building an interlocking territory, but it adds a bidding mechanic for the tiles, plus different victory conditions every game.

Five Tribes has been good, but I don't know how it'd work with 2.

If you're looking for a two player game, especially if you're cutthroat people, get Patchwork. If a more abstract strategy game is OK, I've very much enjoyed Hive.

u/Aerhyn · 1 pointr/Ultralight

[Deep Sea Adventure] ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PU5C5IA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_bZ.TCbZYHZ7MX) is a cute little game. It is a roll and move-you have to balance your ambition and desire to survive and not run out of oxygen. It packs down to a little larger than a deck of cards.

Also, [Hive] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0079L0EKY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_R0.TCb51BVE50) or The Fox in the Forest if you want something a little more nuanced.

Hive is like chess light without a board. And all the pieces are bugs, so that's always fun. I love The Fox and the Forest. The art is pretty, and it's a little more complicated than a generic card/trick taking game.

I'm not terribly convinced this will win because I didn't see any board games on your wishlist, but I'm putting it anyway- if only to spread the awesomeness that are board games. :)

I recently got into boardgames. Why? Well, 85% of my friends are introverts and boardgames are AWESOME for introverts. It gives you something to focus on (so conversation pauses don't feel awkward), and it gives you something to talk about! I've noticed it has really helped a lot of them come out of their shell - and gave us something fun to do! It's also fantastic for making new friends (it's really good in that stage of getting to know someone/figuring out what to say.)

Also, in Smash Up you can play robotic ninjas. Or alien dinosaurs. Or pirate wizards. how cool is that?!

I'm kinda a board game novice I just recently got into it. I didn't even realize there where so many different versions until I just looked. I have the basic version (this one)

You could go all in with an awesome collection of Cards Against Humanity!

It requires you to have a pretty twisted sense of humor but it's a ton of fun with friends.

You could check out Firefly the Game.

If you're a fan of the space opera, this is one of the more enjoyable games I've ever played.

If you really don't mind blowing 300 bucks, there's the Star Wars X-Wing miniatures game!

You take control of a spacecraft in the Star Wars universe and each game is like an episode of a Star Wars tv show, with a clear goal and twists and turns along the way as you try and accomplish that goal. The miniatures can get pricey but 300 bucks would get you started on a pretty sweet collection if you buy the smaller ships.

300 bucks would also get you started with the world's greatest trading card game: Magic the Gathering!

This classic card game has been around for over 20 years, features thousands upon thousands of cards to select from and, just like chess, takes 10 minutes to learn and a lifetime to master. For 300 bucks you could both have a gaming mat, plenty of dice, a kick-ass card collection and more than enough to start building multiple decks. Heck, you can just go and buy pre-made decks from a plethora of websites. Check out Youtube for suggestions on what formats you might enjoy, but kitchen table Magic the Gathering is VERY satisfying for two people.

Of course, if you really want an epic adventure, you could check out the bigger, meaner, older cousin of Magic the Gathering, and maybe the most infamous table top game in the world: Dungeons and Dragons!

A little more effort than most, but hugely rewarding if you have a colorful imagination and don't mind some simple math (most games requre SOME math, just look at Monopoly), and you have decades of books to explore, and many are available for pretty cheap from both used book stores and your local library (hopefully). This is a hobby that lasts for the rest of your life.

Like Dungeons and Dragons but want a more easy and accessible game to start out? How about [Muchkin!] (http://www.amazon.com/Steve-Jackson-Games-1483SJG-Munchkin/dp/B004U7JJWE/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1462113434&sr=1-1&keywords=munchkin)

We're talking dungeons...dragons...knights in shining armor and a LOT of fun. It's a good start for tabletop gaming.

Of course, Tabletop gaming is pretty extensive when it comes to choices. Here are a few more to check out:

The Game of the Century: Settlers of Catan

Spooky fun with Arkham Horror!

Big Adventures: Small Heroes... Mice and Mystics!

Survive the Zombie Apocalypse with Dead of Winter!

Of course, like Levar Burton says, you don't have to take my word for it. Here is the awesome Wil Wheaton's Youtube series, Tabletop! He plays with his friends so you don't have to! This series is amazing at helping to decide which tabletop game might be best for your playing needs.

Need a little help deciding if Magic the Gathering is right for you? How about Spellslingers on Youtube! Game Guru Day[9] plays Magic with his friends. Not only is this a super easy way to learn the game, it's a lot of fun to watch.

Need a little help understanding Dungeons and Dragons? Give Critical Role on Youtube a listen!

Luckily, you happened upon a time where tabletop games are going stronger than ever so...good luck!

u/ajschuit · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Recently we got Dead of Winter. Super fun game. 2-5 people. But it can be a really long game. Especially while learning how to play.

u/lukestrain · 1 pointr/gaming

Dead of Winter: A super tense semi-cooperative zombie survival game, where one of your teammates might be a traitor.

Agricola: A Euro style game about managing your farm/ranch while feeding your family. Probably my favorite board game.

Small World: A fantasy themed territory control war game with no dice. Very fun.

Pandemic Legacy: Awesome unique board game about saving the world from a deadly virus. Great to play with the same people. The bad things that happen in each game carry over with negative effects in future games, and you can upgrade cities and characters. Heads up though, you can only play this game 12-24 times. Once you finish it you can't really play anymore. Its amazingly fun though and worth every penny.

I could honestly give these all day if you want to PM me for more.

Edit: These games are also usually cheaper at Cool Stuff Inc

Ultimate Werewolf is a GREAT quite game. It does require a "moderator". Sometimes the talking gets loud, but that is when the moderator puts signs up and gets the group quite again. Its a fun game and the youth love it. (Just be sure to remove the 'Town Drunk' card. That would be a phone call from a parent that would be awkward)

u/JustOneVote · 1 pointr/AskMen

"Werewolf Ultimate" and "Mafia" seem like variations of essentially the same game, you're right.

"Werewolf One Night" is a spin off from "Werewolf" in which the entire game is condensed into one night/round. I don't know how many "nights" the original version of the game involved because I've never played it.

I picked up One Night over the original game because I spotted on the shelf at my local Books-a-Million and it got better reviews. Also noone is eliminated. In the original version if you are "lynched" after the first night you are out the rest of the game. One Night games are over after the first round of lynching then you just reshuffle and start another game. The games are like 5-10 minutes.

I promise I paid less than the $60 amazon price. I don't know what's going on there.

u/MomoFerret · 1 pointr/PSVR

Just FYI, Werewolves Within is based off of a game called Werewolf. There are multiple versions available, but they're all generally similar.

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/925/werewolf

I believe "Ultimate Werewolf" is the most popular recent version of Werewolf:

u/tangerinelatrine · 1 pointr/ifyoulikeblank

Reservoir Dogs, Twin Peaks (TV), Clue

If you like games of any sort, I'd highly recommend 999. It's a fantastic DS game you can play on PC with an emulator. Also, the deduction-based party game Ultimate Werewolf or the online multiplayer version Town of Salem.

u/andsnleo · 1 pointr/ONUW

oh, my bad. tbh, I didn't realize the version I was playing is different from the one night edition :(

I was playing this one btw: https://www.amazon.com/Bezier-Games-UWDXBEZ-Ultimate-Werewolf/dp/B00MHWUJA0

in this case, I wake the special characters each night and ask them to make their moves. that's when I had that werewolf-witch issue.

u/got2kn0w · 1 pointr/makemychoice

Have you considered "ultimate werewolf"? it can be played in mere minutes or over several hours based on how many people you are playing, and if you are too few playing "one nigth ultimate werewolf" with the free app as narrarator (wich is on both appstore and google play) is an option too.

u/greyforyou · 1 pointr/DnD

There are probably options for most editions. Here is an example of spell cards for wizards/warlock and sorcerers. The same company makes cards for all casting classes I believe.

u/SailorDad · 1 pointr/DnD

If you're looking to spend money.

If not, I had seen templates from other people that you could print on your own. The main one hardcodex.ru seems down? You could try searching to find an up-to-date, active one? I think you may not find all the spells, as they would be under copyright, except the SRD ones, available here for one.

u/occam7 · 1 pointr/DnD

I play a sorcerer as well, and love it.

As far as real-life purchases, other than a PHB, I find spell cards extremely helpful, though they are by no means required.

You can find the main Arcane set here (will cover you if you decide to play a Warlock or Wizard in the future as well), and a few additional spells here (you can probably live without these).

For some reason those links are showing insane prices, so I'm just including them for the pictures. You should be able to get the arcane set for $20 or less, and the archetypes set for less than $10 at your FLGS.

u/DuguLinghu · 1 pointr/DnD

At the start, do not buy any individual minis. Best value is to go through board games.

Arena of Planeswalkers SOI, get it while on sale on Amazon, $9 for around 25 minis

As long as his absurdly good sale lasts, this is the best choice to start with. Werewolves, dark clerics, Warriors, a nice set for the price.

https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Gathering-Planeswalkers-Shadows-Innistrad/dp/B01ALHAFFQ

D&D and Descent Board Games, Best Value: $50 for 40

Best choice is the D&D adventure board games (in general descending order of usefulness of monsters: castle ravenloft, temple of elemental evil, wrath of ashardalon, and legend of drizzt). Usually about $50 on amazon for 40 high quality minis, including several large ones (like a dracolich, or large dragon, or elementals). Each comes with 4 heroes as well.

Another similar choice is Descent 2nd edition base game, which has similar content in around the same price range. I'd say the miniature quality is better than the D&D games, though the humans are slightly shorter (not much).

Since each of these includes many large figurines, they are actually a much better deal than even the per mini price indicates. The dracolich from castle of ravenloft alone seems to sell in the $10-$15 range on ebay.

Descent Hero and Monster Packs, Good Value: $30 for around 17

Descent hero and monster packs, you can see what comes in each set in the pictures here:
http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/192264/descent-2nd-edition-miniatures-overview

These are great options, especially because you can select which group of heroes you want the most from the pics, and find one thst fits your wife's character. They usually come with 4 heroes and around 13 monsters, a couple less if all the monsters are big. You can get great larges with this, demons, dragons, giants, trolls, etc.

A cautionary note on not so great deals

Reaper Bones is always brought up in these threads, but except for very specific miniatures you can't find elsewhere, it is overall not a great deal (unless you get in on one of their kickstarters early). $2-3 per small, $5+ per large, Reaper Bones are both significantly lower quality (cheap material) and over twice as expensive as the board game options (more when you consider the large miniatures).

There are a lot of entry points. Which one is best will probably depend on your level of gamerness (if that's a word?).

If you don't do much tabletop gaming (or your only boardgames are from Hasbro), the D&D fifth edition starter set is a great place to start. Eventually, your group will have to get the DM Guide,, Player's Handbook, and maybe the Monster Manual after you finish the sessions from the starter set.

If you're more of a gamer, and you like min/maxing, let me recommend Pathfinder. It's an offshoot of the 3.5th edition of D&D (considered by many to be the heyday of D&D's systems. Here's their beginner box - the great thing about pathfinder is that after you finish that box, you don't need to buy anything. Ever again. there are resource pages all over the internet where all of the source material is available for free. (premade campaigns, you'll have to buy if you want to use them, though, but that's the same as D&D).

Another option if you're a starwars fan, is the new Star Wars RPG by fantasy flight. There are different source books and begginer boxes depending on if you want to focus your adventures around smugglers and normal folk on the edge of civilization or members of the rebellion

> ke a young person who dumps their money into a car they can't really afford and has to "make sacrifices" to keep it rather than getting a beater they

sale price of house was 465K. CMHC was 25,000$ in fees on top of that plus 10,000$ to end reliance on fossil fuel and put in a heat pump with electric furnace (big mistake there)

House had a suite, we lived in the basement suite. So no, it wasn't a home we couldn't afford, as we did, in fact, afford it. There were just sacrifices made.

The problem with your theory is that you should be able to just buy a house without surrendering to any type of lifestyle change. This just isn't the case, unless you want to move to Saskatchewan. So instead it's easy to just write it off as impossible and complain about "the system" instead of playing the system to your advantage.

Here's a good game for you. Instead of owning properties, you get life experiences and get to travel:
