Summary of OP's statements so far:

MODEL

  • The STL can be found on myminifactory - model by Rob Pauza called the Mandalorian Helmet. The URL is posted in the comments, but the bot hates it.
  • STL was printed in one piece (except ears and back piece) but modified:
  • Scaled at 108% (any bigger and according to another poster who has printed it before, it won't fit the CR10) but would print again at 104-105% - YMMV, OP has a 'bigger head'.
  • Custom tree supports were needed on the top of the visor area.

    PRINT

  • Layer height was .28
  • Printed oriented as it sits (upright)
  • Took about 2 days to print on a 2-year-old CR10 using a mirror bed

    FINISH

  • Filler - Elmer's Wood Filler watered down a little
  • Sanded, then primer, wetsand
  • Black Gloss Paint
  • The silver is Ultimate Mirror Chrome Aeorosol by SPaz Stix from Amazon
  • No Clearcoat; damage adds character
  • Foam pads were velcroed inside

    VISOR

  • Is a Hobart 770580 Face Shield Replacement Lens ($7) from Amazon
  • Visibility is good

Steel toes are a pain but I wouldn't put my feet in anything else when there's a drop danger. They've saved my feet numerous times. You can buy steel and aluminum guards that fit over your current shoes but I wouldn't trust them as much as I do a steel toed boot.

Any boot you get is going to be uncomfortable as fuck for the first few weeks. If you get a new pair, wear them around on weekends and going out. It'll toughen your feet faster so you aren't hobbled on the job as much.

What you might be able to do is keep a pair of sandals or slip-ons with you so when you go home at night you can take the boots off and leave them off.

I would highly suggest getting some Dr Scholls Gel Inserts. They're fucking incredible. Change them out about every four to six months and you'll get a lot more out of your boots. I guarantee you will notice the difference and it will be glorious.

When you can, get a second pair and third pair of boots and rotate them every day. If you don't they're going to get fucking rank very quickly and they'll break down faster.

On a side note: if you don't have them already, get some good work gloves. They are worth their weight in gold for this kind of work and will dramatically extend how much you can lift and for how long.

Source: I've done this kind of work for years now.

u/mennonite · 16 pointsr/beards

Yeah, their masks can't seal at all. The only shitty thing about beards is not being able to use normal PPE and needing forced air systems like PAPR's at 10x the cost + added bulk / inconvenience. I wonder if the Army makes kit accommodations for this?

EDIT: N/M, looks like you can get forced air modules for normal respirators/gas masks, seems like it shouldn't be an issue then?

u/dahamsta · 15 pointsr/MechanicAdvice

Not sure if they'll have these in the US, but I fog up in most anything and find these great: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003UGDQ66

u/juliaplayspiano · 14 pointsr/bikecommuting

I ride year-round in Chicago, but had never gotten goggles or a mask, since I didn't love how big they seemed to be. I added these 3M glasses to an Amazon order recently and was quite pleased with how they worked! They didn't fog up while I was waiting at longer red lights like sunglasses usually do, and the coverage was enough to keep my eyes from watering. Highly recommended!

>Shot my AR15 an .357 revolver without ear protection and my hearing was basically gone and had ringing in my ears for hours.

...Why would you ever do this? You may want to go see a specialist because there is a very good chance that you're done some permanent damage

>best route to go for ear protection for a inside range and outside farm?

Doubling up is best but doing either will offer protection. The amount of protection depends on the rating for that particular product and if it's being used properly.

Example. This pair of over-ear protection is NRR 23 while This pair of in-ear protection is NRR 32 if used properly

Here's a website with information about NRR ratings.

The move seems to be Mechanix gloves.

I've been using these to great success.

u/Magic_Bullets · 9 pointsr/SleepApnea

The filters on all CPAP machines are a joke. Most are barely N95 and everything but particulate matter pass through. You'll still breath in smoke, smell, chemicals, formaldahyde, toxins etc with stock apnea filters. It's a pain in the ass wearing a respirator when awake but there's ZERO downsides using a respirator filter connected to you cpap machine when you sleep. Anyone with allergies and asthma could greatly benefit from what I'm posting below.

I printed out a 3D filter cover that's reshaped to attach 3M P100 2297 respirator filters.

Looks like this and just twists on and off. https://ibb.co/hBs1fcF

Here they are on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Advanced-Particulate-2297-Filters/dp/B009POHH94?th=1&psc=1 $5 each. You could use almost and Respirator any filter you want if you can get it to attach to your machine but the 2297 and 2291 have a much higher flow rate with much less air restriction so that there's no added load on the machine . http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/572482O/2200-advanced-particulate-filter.pdf?fn=2200SeriesSellSheet-70-0714-8863

The advantages of a 3M 2297 are about +10 times the filtering surface area so there's no added restriction to your machine and they don't let anything into your machine. They are P100 +++ and block 99.97% of air board particulates and also use Carbon in the filter so they block inorganic Vapors, smoke (like all the fires in CA), formaldehyde fumes and chemicals. Even ozone. Before I made my custom 3D printed filter cover. I just cut the plastic mount off the 2297 filter and double side taped it to my machines filter cover.

If I get some interest I could make a bunch of 3d printed filter covers so that you can attach 3M respirators to your apnea machines. Let me know if anyone's interested. A a quick test if you want to try. You could also stick your apnea machine in a sealed cardboard box with a one or more respirator filters as the vent ports allowing only filtered air into your apnea machine.

Let me just get the safety information since that's super important and a discord server has is on command
>Clear coat
The most commonly used & recommended clear coat here is the USC Spray Max 2K High Gloss Clearcoat found here: https://amzn.to/2O0oZRB
It is also available in Matte and Semi-Gloss and all three types are highly recommended. In general, 2K clear coats will hold up much better than 1K, and will protect your work for years. Use of a standard 1K clearcoat will result in a finish that will wear off extremely quickly from use and leave you with a ruined paintjob.
Note: A couple things you need to know about USC 2K and all other 2K clearcoats.

>1. USC Spray Max 2K has a roughly 48 hour pot life. After this window has passed the clear coat will be unusable, so it's recommended you clear coat in batches.

>2. A can can typically cover 3 controllers, 3.5/4 if you're good about spraying efficiently.

>3. You must use safety equipment when using any 2k clearcoat. 2K clearcoats are HIGHLY TOXIC!*
3a. Wear a respirator, goggles, gloves, and a full body paint suit (preferably with a hood).
3b. Use light layers and work outdoors or in a professionally ventilated workshop (i.e. dedicated garage).
3c. Do not spray or leave to cure in an area where people or pets can breathe the fumes. This includes the full cure time as 2k gives off dangerous fumes until fully cured. Even very light exposure can make you sick.

>Please use the command !ccsafety to see more information
CustomGCC staff and members are NOT RESPONSIBLE if anything goes wrong.

!ccsafety info
>Respirator
Most painters in CustomGCC use the 3M Disposable Organic Vapor Respirator or similar, found here: https://amzn.to/2Nrz10Z
The cartridges on this mask are nonreplaceable and have a max use time of 8 hours before they're inneffective in protecting you, this means you must replace this mask every 8 hours of active use.
The filters also get used up just sitting around in the open air, so make sure you store it in an airtight bag between uses if you want to get the full 8 hours out of it.

>For a re-usable mask and replacement filters these are good options:

>Other Necessary Protection
Make sure to wear safety goggles, nitrile or similar gloves, and wear long sleeves/pants to prevent the 2k getting on your skin. Any clothes worn while spraying should be immediately changed out of and washed to prevent any chemical being absorbed by your skin.
A Tyvek paint suit is highly recommended: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VMU2SN4?pf_rd_p=f3acc539-5d5f-49a3-89ea-768a917d5900&pf_rd_r=QCS32SZFBER5RSNBE34X

Special forces probably use hearing protection like these. Works with gunfire and explosions too.

u/spartangrunt · 7 pointsr/NoStupidQuestions

TCAPS or Peltor. Basically anything with active protection, which more or less equates to noise canceling headphones.

u/shamarctic · 7 pointsr/Wrangler

OK dont worry you guys. I've got this. First things first, you're going to need to open up a credit card with a high limit. $30k should do to start.

  • Rubber Floor Mats. I got the Mopar ones. I might suggest Weathertech instead. If you have the unlimited, you can get mats for the back was well. I cannot find any mats for the back of my two door :(
  • Have a dog? Plan on running with the roof off? Want to prevent them from falling out? Safari Straps have your back.
  • Off Roading? I suggest some tire deflators to air down conveniently, and a portable air compressor to air back up.
  • Grab Handles are great. Here's one example, but I recommend shopping around. Theres a lot of different styles, find what you like.
  • Hi Lift Jack & Base. You'll quickly find off road that the stock jack will not get you out of a lot of situations. The base is helpful on soft surfaces (wet dirt, sand, etc).
  • Change your own damn oil! It's easy. No jack required just shimmy under there. Make sure to get an oil catcher big enough for your motor. 6-8 QTS if I recall correctly.
  • Buy a shovel. Invaluable off road
  • Recovery Strap & learn how to use it properly.
  • Mechanics Gloves. Again very helpful around the jeep.

That should get you off to a good start. Eventually you might think about replacing the bumpers, adding a tire carrier, lifting the jeep, getting bigger wheels, adding a winch, adding a roof rack.

Short answer: ear protection.

Long answer: Peltor Tactical 6S. Double up with foamies for larger rifle caliber or extended indoor shooting.

u/TemplarReflex777 · 6 pointsr/securityguards

I still do bar/nightclub work, I usually wear a pair of leather sap gloves or a pair of the soft knuckle gloves from Line Of Fire. I also have used Hatch brand gloves with hard knuckles, but every pair of hatch gloves I have owned has not stood up to more than a couple months of constant use. I highly recommend Line Of Fire, I know the Sentry and Operator series are a little more pricey, but they do have some more affordable options that have a pretty high level of cut protection. Mechanix makes a pair of covert tactical gloves that are becoming more and more popular. These Mechanix gloves have become popular due to their affordability, and the "normal" look they have to them, no shaped knuckles or anything that could contribute to the "intimidating" glove style some companies don't allow.

u/jhereg10 · 6 pointsr/electricians

Not an electrician.

For general attic puttering, if you are moderately dust sensitive, a simple dust mask should do like this one.

3M 8511 Respirator, N95, Cool Flow Valve (10-Pack)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002YKBV2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PklnDbF1K3TNG

If you have serious respiratory issues maybe something like this which I use for problematic dust generating hobby stuff or (with the appropriate filters) high fume stuff.

3M Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 6300/07026(AAD), Respiratory Protection, Large (Pack of 1) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007JZ1MK6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ymlnDb29YSW61

Frankly if the simple dust mask isn’t enough, you might consider letting someone else do the attic stuff.

For non-cold weather wear I like my Mechanix gloves for just about everything.

u/jamesvreeland · 5 pointsr/AdventureRacing
  1. If you are planning on buying one specifically for the event, a generic mil-surp ruck will handle your first few challenges. I would avoid frame packs, as challenges can be pretty awkward if you can trying to wrestle around a metal frame during PT.
Another option is to ask around inside of the Facebook group for your event. There might be an alumni willing to loan you a spare ruck.

  2. Your ruck and bricks are usually the least unpleasant aspect of what you'll be carrying around. I'd focus on getting as strong as possible at your current bodyweight, instead of cutting weight (and strength, and endurance) to be allowed to carry fewer bricks. If keeping the 5 pounds makes you more capable of lugging around a water can, log, chunk of sidewalk, buddy, etc... that's the way to go.

  3. Regular old Mechanix gloves have served me very well, and are pretty cheap. If I know the area is really sandy (and likely to work its way in to the velcro and open up the glove), I've been known to throw a strip of electrical tape around my wrist to just strap the things on for the challenge.
    http://www.amazon.com/Mechanix-Wear-MG-55-009-Original-Covert/dp/B0001VNZUA/

  4. The dedicated training plans on the site are quite good (so is Military Athlete, though not free - http://militaryathlete.com/page.php?page_ID=12&cart_category_ID=54), but just following as much of http://training.goruck.com as possible is my recommendation. A lot of effort goes in to their programming.
A 40# sandbag can function as half the gear you need for a basic fitness program at home.
u/wiscondinavian · 5 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I know this is kind of stupid, but I've been using work gloves instead of pot holders for a while.

Plus: they're cheap. They fit to your hand so you can have more control. They're meant for industrial use, so they should last a long time.

I can't find one on amazon, but they're somewhat between these: http://www.amazon.com/Custom-Leathercraft-125M-Handyman-Gloves/dp/B0002YPZKY/ref=lp_553608_1_4?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1394420057&sr=1-4 and the regular latex dipped work gloves.

u/reddilada · 5 pointsr/camping

Life is filled with risks. It won't help your fear, but you're far, far more likely to be injured driving to the campsite than being attacked by a bear. You just have to step back and put things into perspective.

You can buy bear spray. Pick one up, read up a bit about bear / wilderness safety and go have a good time.

u/DCayabyab93 · 5 pointsr/powerrangers

I cheated on the visor a bit. It’s more apparent from a side view but it’s not flush with the front of the helmet. What I did was I bought a tinted face shield off Amazon (link), cut it to size with a pair of scissors, the hot glued it in from the inside of the helmet.

u/DestroyAllCosplay · 5 pointsr/DCDoomPatrol

Oh...yeah you won’t need a 3D printer for those. The only 3D printed part on mine is the bridge of the nose to hold magnets that I use to attach them. Make a template out of paper that is sized to your head and the right shape you want, and then cut that template (all as one piece) out of the material that I link below. The material is thin enough that you can use scissors to cut it.

Mine are held onto the face shell with magnets, but you can just as easily attach them to some existing glasses or goggles by using hot glue and/or fishing line along the bridge of the nose. Don’t use Super Glue because it will cloud the lense.

Hobart 770580 Face Shield Replacement Lens, Shaded https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002VECKRO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nTuXCb3YYQCRY

It might also be worth it to you to search for Cat Eye Sunglasses. Those are the style that most-realistically matches the Rebis lenses, and if you see some you like, then there’s no building to do. I wanted mine to be larger and they’re more based on their look in Way’s run, but I think if I wanted more of a Morrison/Case run appearance, I’d go with cat eye sunglasses.

Cat eyes that make work for you as-is:

What he said. Also another route you can go for tinting is getting this and cutting it to fit. Thats what I did for my volpin and I think it came out pretty nice. You be the judge

u/crozone · 5 pointsr/Vive

This is a little project I've been working on, it's a pair of adapter pieces that allow the Vive headstrap to be replaced with a commercially available welding headgear, found here. This was primarily inspired by a response made to one of my posts a month ago, which was the same idea but for a different headgear:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4l93dt/custom_vive_headstrap_based_off_commerically/d42vmpf

The main advantages that using a welding headgear gives you is that the Vive can be "flipped up" above the head when not in use, and the Vive isn't pulled against the face as much.

I'll post some photos showing it in action soon (I need to have a shave first/my beard is bloody awful), hopefully you guys like it!

get yourself a half face respirator with pm/voc cartridges. protect your health and raise awareness!

u/socialisthippie · 5 pointsr/urbanexploration

That respirator is this model exactly: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Respirator-6300-Respiratory-Protection/dp/B007QY8X2K/ (3M 6000 series half-facepiece respirator)

It comes in 3 sizes (model numbers in parenthesis). Small (6100) /Medium (6200) /Large (6300). Small fits my tiny girlfriend very well. I wear a medium and have an average to largeish head. Small is a pale grey, medum is medium gray, and large is almost black.

This model in particular is made of a TPU plastic which is... not that comfortable, to be honest. Wearing it for a couple hours will leave you with marks on your face (ridge of nose primarily) that take a day or two to go away.

For a few dollars more you can get the 7500 series, which is miles more comfortable because of the silicone face seal: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Facepiece-Respirator-Respiratory-Protection/dp/B008MCUT86/

Then all you need is a pair of replaceable filters, which you should purchase based upon your work or the potential hazards wherever you are exploring.

For most UrbEx type situations i'd imagine a P100 filter will suffice (P means oil and non oil particulate and 100 is the percent it filters out - realistically its 99.97%, but close enough... don't risk your health with anything lower than 100).

These are my favorite particulate filters (high flow and nuisance organic vapor releif): https://www.amazon.com/3M-Advanced-Particulate-Respiratory-Protection/dp/B009POHH94/

For really sketchy stuff you'll want a combo unit which has multi-gas and particulate filters (which you shouldn't do anyway): https://www.amazon.com/3M-Cartridge-60926-Respiratory-Protection/dp/B009POHLRC/

To summarize: So yeah, get yourself a mask that fits well and filters for the specific job/location you're doing/visiting.

I work in the hazmat industry and agree with the previous posts. Grab a 3M half-face respirator. I’d shoot for either p100 “pancake” filters (dust protection and very light vapor protection on a budget) or organic vapor for the same dust protection and extreme vapor/fume protection

u/robertlong13 · 5 pointsr/LifeProTips

IMPORTANT! Make sure the filter is at least a #14. Be advised that arc welders typically use glass with a shade much less than the necessary #14. https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety

It's cheaper to get specifically designed eclipse glasses. Make sure they are ISO certified (available on amazon).

EDIT: American Paper Optics is specifically mentioned in that NASA link, and they have 10 packs for $13 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Eclipse-Glasses-Certified-Assorted-Protection/dp/B01M2WDBQU/

Solid choice of gear. You'll probably regret those fingerless gloves when you get in the fingernail though. Hurts like hell. What I see a lot of people do is get something like Mechanix and just cut off the ends of the index finger and thumb, as that's really all you need. I just use Mechanix M-pacts and have no problems doing whatever I need to.

Yes, a One Tigris will fit much more comfortably than a mesh mask. What you can do, though, is bend the mesh to fit better. You can also take off the cloth on the edges (Heat it to melt glue, then peel it off), and cut the mesh to fit better, then glue the cloth back on.

u/genericdude999 · 4 pointsr/Survival

Well nobody else has mentioned bear spray yet, so I will. Mine weighs about 11 ounces. I used to leave it at home sometimes, but now I take it on most of my trips. I have a magnum revolver and a shotgun, but if I have to carry it long distances better bear spray than nothing. Notice how fast it shuts down this bear in mid-attack after multiple guys yelling and beating with sticks does nothing.

Also get a bear canister for your food and place it well away from your tent. Never bring food into your tent, or your pack or dishes or other gear if it smells like food. Also I've read that enclosed tent sleepers are less likely to be attacked than tarp sleepers.

Also if you're going to be in very remote locations, have you considered a PLB?

Years ago I bought this mask
Https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007JZ1MK6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_G1OVBbMF2VS4Q
About a year ago I upgraded to this one though. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IF7RCU6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_W5OVBbCAGQRCD
it is worth the extra money and then some. (I think they are available at the local box stores too.) The advantage is a quick release latch. Whenever my wife would come down to ask me a question or my phone would ring I’d have to take my headphones, glasses and mask off to answer. The latch lets you drop it down so you’re able to talk or breathe without the mask without fully taking it off. It’s also really helpful on longer sessions when you end up getting hot and sweaty and just want a quick breather.
Added bonus, all the filters I bought for the first mask still work and I just use it as a spare for when family or friends come to my shop they get a nice one now too.
I should also mention I do not have a beard either so I can’t speak to the performance for those fortunate enough to grow a less than pitiful beard

u/theejaybles · 4 pointsr/KitchenConfidential

Cut Gloves can be pretty affordable to have on hand for people doing prep or dishwashers that don't have a lot of knife experience. Way cheaper to have these "on hand" than a hospital bill or L&I costs

u/[deleted] · 3 pointsr/airsoft

I bought some of these as ear protection but I stopped wearing them. I find that if I am going into a CQB area of a field I just protect one ear with my stock and hope the other one doesn't get shot.

>"Oh my, another thug unarmed liberal coming to steal my food supplies."

Yeah. I don't usually think like that, but it kind of stuck out to me. You don't need a gun until you need it, and it's not good to be the guy without one when everyone else has 5. Some of us have a lot more than 5.

Also, look into hearing protection with speakers that shut off when the gun goes off.

u/apoclyps15 · 3 pointsr/explainlikeimfive

There is active hearing protection as well. Basically like high tech noise cancelling headphones that activate for noises above a certain frequency/decibel. Normal speech passes through fine, but weapons fire would "turn on" the active part of the device.

I am extremely ELI5'ing what they are though. It would be something similar to this though: http://www.amazon.com/3M-Peltor-Tactical-Hearing-Protector/dp/B00009363P

u/when_i_die · 3 pointsr/airsoft

To add onto this since you have no gear:

Buy one of these batteries: http://www.evike.com/products/52945/

One of these smart chargers: http://www.evike.com/products/61888/ (it is definitely worth the money to not fry a battery)

Some gloves like these: http://www.amazon.com/Mechanix-Wear-Tactical-Original-Covert/dp/B0001VNZUA/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1462666524&sr=1-1&keywords=mechanix

A lower face mesh like this: http://www.evike.com/products/33666/

Some ANSI z87.1 goggles from basically anywhere or a painball mask to substitute for those and the face mesh

And that should be enough to get started

Don't drink soda (carbonation) or anything with caffeine. Just water or juice. Take a walk up and down the aisle every so often, and stretch while you are doing so.

Music is also good, I use these headphones with a set of earmuffs as a kind of cheap noise-cancelling setup. Looks like there's also these that do the same thing in one package.

Get the window seat so you can rest you head against the wall and get your brains vibrated for free!

Pillow for lumbar support or extra cushioning might help too. The tip about taking your shoes off is a good one as well.

u/alinroc · 3 pointsr/cscareerquestions

You should be more worried about the noise than the heat. People live their entire lives in hot climates. Human beings are quite adaptable to heat and cold. Noise, not so much.

Get a decibel meter (in a bind, download one for your phone). OSHA regulations permit up to 90 dBA for an 8-hour shift. Find out how loud this equipment is where you'll be sitting.

Then, regardless of the reading, ask for protective equipment. Even though OSHA's regulations are 90 dBA, lower levels can still harm your hearing with prolonged exposure. This is a very real problem. Go to management and insist upon being provided with hearing protection. If they refuse, buy the biggest, gaudiest, most obvious hearing protection you can find and wear it, just to make the point. Oh, and keep the receipt - either for reimbursement or to claim on your taxes (assuming you're in the US).

Edit: Looks like you're in Egypt? I got nothing WRT regulations there. Europe uses 85 dBA as their limit
Document your concerns and make sure you keep a copy for yourself. Do anything and everything you can to get this decision reversed, or at least get you moved out ASAP.

> this makes me question what a healthy programming environment should be like?

Well, I can tell you that a "healthy programing environment" should not be like the one you're going to be subjected to. Really, it's not even about a "programming environment" at all but being subjected to this at all for a full workday without proper protective equipment.

I just went through this not too long ago, and ended up forgetting a whole bunch of stuff. What I eventually got was this cleaning kit, simple eye protection at wal-mart, earmuffs like these, and a range bag to put it all in.

u/tigermaple · 3 pointsr/turning

The face shield u/givemehellll linked is a great one, and as it sits further out in front of your face than most, it stands the greatest chance of accommodating a respirator. (I think u/vikingcode1 took a picture one time showing that it did work, sort of).

However, most turners (me included) don't really wear both at once. Use the face shield during cutting and shaping operations (you should be producing mostly chips at this point, not hazardous dust), then swap it out for the respirator when it comes time to sand. Better yet (or in addition to)- get a dust collector or one of those cyclone garbage can attachments for your shop vac and collect the dust at the source while sanding.

They do make powered respirators (PAPR) that combine a face shield with a filter that maintains positive pressure by blowing filtered air over your face, but those are pretty expensive, the cheapest being something like this, going on up to much nicer ones. (I have the Trend and honestly, I think it sucks. It's way too top heavy, and has a fussy charger that has to be monitored carefully to avoid ruining the battery, and it's not NIOSH approved or meeting any other safety standard or spec that tells what it is doing for sure. I can't recommend it honestly).

Right, depending on what level of protection you're after i'd say they offer 3 options:

Light - Bollé Tracker - https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Boll%C3%A9-Tracker-II-Safety-Goggles/dp/B003UGDQ66/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=bolle+cobra&qid=1570480416&sr=8-5

Heavy - Bollé Pilopsi - https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Bolle-PILOPSI-Pilot-Safety-Goggle/dp/B000VDLP4G/ref=sxin_0_sxwds-bia-wc1_0?keywords=bolle&pd_rd_i=B000VDLP4G&pd_rd_r=88ef82f1-2d0d-497d-bf8f-d096c9daaeb0&pd_rd_w=jj1tZ&pd_rd_wg=8xq9b&pf_rd_p=2159348c-d23b-4602-b79a-23a554c807e1&pf_rd_r=77J11TG4AZ8BBWN8HXY7&psc=1&qid=1570480528

I've only really got experiences with the Tracker and Pilopsi. I found the trackers slightly uncomfortable myself but i do have a rather wide head which could explain that, my brother tried them out and found them very comfortable! The Pilopsi goggles i've worn every day in work for the past 3 years or so, with very heavy use and throwing them around the shop I've replaced them twice due to the rubber seal starting to denature a little bit I'm guessing from sweat but the lens is extremely durable!

Basically I may be biased but I'd go for the Pilopsi any day of the week, extremely comfortable, virtually no peripheral view obstruction, plus the best sealing from the 3 options above!

Hope this was handy for you, if you've got any other questions in the same area i'd be happy to answer! :)

Edit - the last link was wrong sorry, corrected!

u/dalziel86 · 3 pointsr/modelmakers

Absolutely not. DO NOT PAINT UNTIL YOU HAVE THE APPROPRIATE PROTECTIVE GEAR. Lacquers are especially dangerous. Acrylics are safer but still not safe. Painting without proper protection will result in you inhaling vapors and particles that will mess up your lungs terribly and cause you a lot of problems later in life, sooner and more severe if you keep doing it. More immediately, you'll get headaches and such that will make your life unpleasant.

You need a proper respirator that's rated for organic vapor. This is pretty close to what I have. You attach cartridges to those sockets on either side and filters over the top.

You'll also need to make sure wherever you're painting is adequately ventilated, which generally means getting a paint booth with a good fan.

And no, thinners aren't universal. Different chemicals are used to thin acrylics, lacquers, enamels and oils. Sometimes you can use one for another, like using enamel thinner with oil, but in other cases you'll mess up the whole thing if you try.

Get proper protective gear. Get a proper ventilation system. Get the proper thinners for your paint. Then have fun with your new airbrush!

I made a thread about this in another subreddit and got some good responses from u/yogabagabbedlygook who lives in the West - where we typically have our forest fires:

>I use 3M 7000 series Half-face Respirator, it's the top of the line model and is only about ~$30 US with filters if you get a good package deal.
>
>I've used a few different filters and there are notable differences and exactly what you would expect. The big bulky OV/P95 Cartridges impact breathing the most, the 3M 2297 P100 filters are a significant improvement in ease of breathing, and lastly the 3M Advanced 2291 P100 filters are the least impactful as their are purposely designed for ease of breathing. I started with them in that order and have transitioned to the 2291 filters, a vast improvement and likely more than adequate for pollution considerations. The OV/P95 Cartridges are overkill and are what professional painters and chemists use, plus they're more expensive.

>Yes, you will get lots of condensation buildup, but I don't find that to be too problematic.

I'm just going to use this space to write a potential post and then copypasta it to the mods, see if they wanna use it.

Hello! This is sk8s's guide to the holidays!

You're probably here looking for gift ideas for the gun enthusiast in your life. Now, each individual person is unique and preferences, but here's a little launching pad to get you started.

Here is a list of stocking stuffers for the shooting enthusiast in your life, in no particular order.

  • Ammo - Can't shoot a gun if you don't have ammo for it. Know what caliber (size) of ammo to get. If it's a handgun or a rifle, most guns won't be terribly picky about what brand it is. Depending on the caliber, the prices can vary greatly. A box of practice 9mm (50 rounds) will be in the $10-15 range, whereas a box of practice .45 ACP (50 rounds) will cost about $20-$25. Whether it's bulk practice ammo or a box of match grade ammo, it will be enjoyed immensely.

  • Eye and ear protection - I have a pair of these in my bag as a loaner pair (and I use them frequently if I forget my nice pair). Lucky Gunner has a fairly comprehensive guide for eyepro. As for hearing protection, Gunnit recommends the Howard Leight Impact Sport electronic earmuffs. I have them, I love them. A pack of regular foam earplugs is great as well for doubling up at an indoor range.

  • Targets - Gotta have something to shoot at. A pack of paper targets makes a great, cheap stocking stuffer. I like the Shoot-n-see targets for when I'm shooting with friends, and these for when I'm trying to shoot the best I can. However, there can be something quite satisfying about hearing the ring of a bullet hitting steel. If the person has a .22LR, this is an incredibly fun target. My buddy and I have shot well over 2000 rounds at his, and it's just as fun every time. For a centerfire handgun or rifle, check out MOA targets for some great steel targets.

  • Range bag - gotta take all the crap to the range in style! The most recommended range bag here is the Midway USA compact competition range bag. My favorite bag that I've seen (and will probably buy soon) is the GPS Range Bag, but that's because I'm anal about organizing my crap.

  • Range membership - Range fees can be very expensive. A range pass or membership allows the shooter in your life to go whenever they want!

  • Concealed weapons permit class - Has someone in your life been in a situation where they wished they had a gun to protect them? Is someone looking to have gun to prevent that situation from happening? Pay for them to go get their concealed weapons permit. They may or may not carry, but if the state allows it, it is never a bad idea to have such a permit. You know, just in case.

Now, these are all just some generic questions and are not intended to be a one-size-fits-all solution (though I'm of the opinion that nobody will turn down ammo). Feel free to comment if you have any questions and we can help you out! Happy holidays!

I have kind of a ghetto setup for this but one you will want to consider.

Buy a pair of these

Buy any good set of in ear buds

but the buds in your ear and put the defenders over it.
Prepare for my shitty science.
Since you are dampening the sound twice you just about hear your kit. Trust me I wouldn't play drums any other way.
Have fun!

u/RichLongschlong · 2 pointsr/Hunting

I work on a research farm and have to spend a lot of time with plant grinders. We use these 3M Peltor earmuffs. You really won't be able to cut out all sound without spending a fair bit of cash, but I can set my earbuds at a normal level with these and still be able to hear what I'm listening to.

Also I've found some earbuds work a lot better than others. The older iPod buds are a little long to fit in the cups, but plenty of others work just fine.

u/Lurkndog · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I don't know that any earplugs are BIFL, but there are some that are at least "buy it for maybe a year."

These Howard Leight by Honeywell Quiet Band earplugs come on a semirigid headband. They may be best known as the earplugs Hickock45 wears in most of his Youtube videos. They seem to be easy to put in and take out as needed, and you can let the headband hang down at the back of your neck if you don't want it interfering with your hat or hair.

There are also over the ear earmuffs for hearing protection, and most of those are fairly long-lasting. Like a stereo headset, though, they are a little awkward, especially if you are wearing them over a cap.

When I go shooting, I "double-bag" and wear both earplugs and earmuffs. I don't want to be deaf in my old age.

u/justabaldguy · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I've worked with a few kids like this and have studied it a bit in my degree plan (EDIT: I'm far from an expert, don't want this to say otherwise, but I've worked with some and know a few autistic kids at church and speak with their parents). For one, some are very sensitive to sound. You might get a cheap set of these and see if that helps. The goal is to give him control. Difficulty in this varies with each child, but if he can control when it's too loud he'll generally be happier.

I HIGHLY recommend this episode of Arthur to watch with your kids in class. George meets and befriends a nice child with a form of PDD. I couldn't find it on PBSKidsgo.org but that YouTube episode will help. My 8 and 6 year olds understood it after watching that, and a little public awareness for your other 21 kids will go a long way. This teaches the children to be have as they normally are expected too, and not let their special friend confuse them. They'll need to learn to accept him as he is, which should alleviate some of his concerns too.

For your own viewing, try to find the video Loving Lampposts. It was on Netflix for a while but I haven't looked for it recently.

u/LilyoftheRally · 2 pointsr/aspergers

Have you tried using earplugs? When you are home alone you can use them all the time. Make sure to keep your phone on vibrate so you can take them out when someone calls.

Earplugs fall out of my ears. If earplugs don't work for you, try these headphones. They are similar to what construction workers wear when working with loud machines. Other similar headphones are offered further down on the page.

I used this type of headphones - specifically these - all the time at college because my dorm walls were super thin. I also use them during thunderstorms, for obvious reasons.

If you want, you can also request a single dorm room at university. Let your school's housing service people know why you would need one.

u/bossoline · 2 pointsr/Meditation

This is going to sound weird, but bear with me.

I shoot guns and I started using my ear protection when meditating when the house is loud and I can't go outside. I use these--they're light, comfortable, and isolate ambient noise incredibly well, so they work like a charm for meditation. For less than $20 US, they might be a worthwhile investment if you're going to be meditating in a shared space.

u/fieldsofgreen · 2 pointsr/guns

If your therapist is that uneducated on the subject of ASD, they're not really qualified to be advising you in the first place. I'd be looking for a new one.

I don't go to the movies, and I have a real struggle just going to restaurants and shopping. I ordered a pair of these: https://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-Leightning-Slimline-Earmuff/dp/B001BL04PS
And I'm hoping that those, plus ear buds underneath them, will make outings more bearable.

u/morleydresden · 2 pointsr/guns

Just about any cheap foam earplugs work just fine, as long as you use them properly. If you're shooting real barn-burner magnums at an indoor range, you might want to get a pair of muffs and put them on over the ear plugs. I have a set of basic Howard Leight muffs, and they work ok and were only $20, but I don't know how they stack up versus other brands.

Edit: This is actually the set of muffs I have. Might want a bit more noise reduction than they provide.

I use a trend pro sheild, a bit pricey but it's the best way to go. The cheapest solution is to get some anti fog spray for your glasses. I use Scott brand for my motorcycle goggles and glasses, work pretty good.

I did a SWTOR version of Darth Revan for Comic Con in 2015,here's the mask I did. it looks a bit different from the KOTOR version, but it's the same general look. I used a replacement lens for a plasma cutting face shield Like this one. I cut it with a tin snips and secured it by fitting the strip in between the layers of the mask before riveting them together. Since it's plastic, though, most glues would probably work too.

u/Renz2LK · 2 pointsr/cosplay

I used a face shield replacement sheet. It's thin enough to cut with scissors and you can get it in clear or tinted. The one I got was tinted and used it for a Power Rangers helmet.

It is more expensive but it looks like one piece that you can take the side knobbies off completely. The only adjustments are the top strap and the back knob.

u/ecodick · 2 pointsr/Welding

This one's been going strong for 2 years. I did have to drill an extra hole it two for the little pins that adjust the to make it work, but it's better than what the hood came with

If you want to get fancy and comfy, buy the straps for a welding helmet. They're designed to be worn all day, have a built in sweatband, and have a really cool ratchet tightening mechanism:

I have a beard and I really enjoy this 3M mask. Picked up a couple 2097 p100 Filters. What's nice is I can swap out the filters depending on what I'm doing.

u/Facist_Canadian · 2 pointsr/Machinists

If you work for someone, see if you can get 'em to spring for a powered air purifying respirator. Used one at my last job, absolutely fantastic for filtering out particles. This particular kit doesn't work for fumes from spraying anything, but for solid matter it can't be beat. If you need it for vapors or chemical loads the step up from that, TR-600 works for those as well.

Thanks for the response. My company will reimburse me for respirator stuff but I didn't know that when I initially bought it so I'll have to see if they can do it without the receipt which is long gone. Did you mean this purple one? I was going to get these ones:

https://www.amazon.com/3M-Advanced-Particulate-Respiratory-Protection/dp/B009POHH94/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487640450&sr=8-1&keywords=3m+2297

Would these be the best option for silica/floor dust?

u/THIS-WILL-WORK · 2 pointsr/Woodcarving

I don’t know I usually see them used interchangeably.

I have this one: 3M Advanced Particulate Filter, 2297, P100 (Pack of 2 Filters) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009POHH94/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tr03CbED30NBD

P100 + “nuisance level” odor protection which I think means protects from minor odors / gasses but not at all sufficient for real gas / odor protection.

You can get separate filters to attach to the same mask for strong gas / oil / chemical protection (I think you need the right kind for the right chemical) so for a cheap mask it’s comfortable and accepts all kinds of filters.

They sell it as “disposable” but I’ve had mine for over a year.

u/yogabagabbledlygook · 2 pointsr/CyclistsWithCameras

Ah, good question.

Yes, you will get lots of condensation buildup, but I don't find that to be too problematic.

u/AnonymousGunNut · 2 pointsr/securityguards

If your company doesn't care too much about obscure rules and is willing to look the other way on you not being certified and cleared for respiratory protection then a 3M half mask is your best bet. P100 dust/ash filtration plus organic vapor using activated carbon to scrub chemicals out of the air or just for odor relief. Use it all the time for changing a relative's cats' litter boxes and I do not smell a thing with either filter.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007JZ1N00/ plus https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007STCT00 (less expensive, wears out and odor breaks through faster than the big filter, but very lightweight) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AEFCKKY (more expensive, lasts a very very long time, heavier)

If your site is super anal about OSHA rules when it comes to masks then you'll have to stick to disposable masks and not reusable rubber masks with filter cartridges. 3M makes ash/dust protection ones with a thin activated carbon layer for odor relief.

u/pzz77 · 2 pointsr/migraine

u/weableandbob · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

PSA: Be VERY careful with glasses from Amazon.

I ordered some plastic glasses from China and they did not come with the proper ISO certificate, and the seller would not reply to a request for one.

Check out the four brands NASA recommends, and buy one of those from Amazon. I returned my plastic glasses and bought a 10-pack of cardboard glasses for $18 manufactured in the US, with an ISO certificate.

These are NASA-approved, ISO certified, Prime-eligible, and made in the USA:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M2WDBQU

There are others, too, these are just what I purchased.

u/kevin2357 · 2 pointsr/solareclipse

If you're really worried about it, note that there are 4 manufacturers whose products and manufacturing process have gone through the official ISO testing and certification for safe solar viewing: Rainbow Symphony, American Paper Optics, Thousand Oaks Optical, and TSE 17 (more info at https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety )

I got my eclipse glasses, and my camera solar filter, from Thousand Oaks. Good company, been in the business a long time, has had previous large-scale contracts for their solar filters with NASA, Discovery Channel, Nat Geo, etc.

There are probably other manufacturers that build perfectly safe solar filters but haven't put in the time to get officially ISO certified. I'd expect that most eclipse glasses on Amazon are probably just fine. But if you're worried at all about it, go with one of the previously mentioned 4.

As an aside, is that $9.99 for a single pair? You can get packs of 5 or 10 for about that much from other manufacturers. American paper optics has a 10 pack here for $14. Thousand Oaks has a 5 pack here for $12.

u/g2g079 · 2 pointsr/space

I bought this 10pk of cheap eclipse glasses. Hope we don't go blind.

u/Needsglasses2017 · 2 pointsr/cedarrapids

I'm also in the area and need glasses. It appears only the packs aren't sold out if you don't want to break the bank. If there is enough interest maybe I could buy this pack of 10 and then we could all split the cost for whoever is still looking?

In an alley crammed unnaturally full of magical shops hocking a wide variety of hobnobs and whatsits and creatures of interesting origin, you can imagine that accidents often occur when someone bumps a delicate instrument or sticks their fingers in the wrong cage. A discerning shop owner will design their store such that these incidents are minimized, but with real estate being the price it is in Diagon Alley, every square foot of product display counts.

Years of working in such a...stimulating environment can take its toll on a witch or wizard, and so it was that a set of ear-coverings was enchanted to allow conversational noise to pass through unfettered but outrageously loud roaring, moaning, banging, cursing, wailing, and munching is muted, leaving the wearer's ears fresh and perky for the sounds that really matter, like the jingle of Galleon's in a customer's pocket.

DIAGONALLY! And I will be making my first gift tonight when my contest ends (:

I used these back when I was a security guard. Used them because I touched a lot of doorknobs and gates on patrol and my hands would get nasty and gross.

Weren't too hot in the summer and kept my hands warm enough in the winter, but I was still able to do things pretty much normal such as riffling through a key ring for the right key and whatnot.

The only issue I had with them is the velcro would blow out after a few months, but that's only because I was constantly taking them off and on in between patrols every hour. Don't imagine that would be an issue under normal use.

Cheap 3M safety glasses, or the same thing with indoor tint.

They're optically clear enough to not cause vision fatigue, and very lightweight so they don't get uncomfortable, even when wearing for hours. I use them both at work and on the range.

I wear the safety glasses linked below. They work great, can take a beating and keep me from crying when going downhill @ 30+ mph. As well as road spray not getting into my eyes. Super effective, super durable for when they get thrown in my bag for my sunglasses. Which are basically the sunglasses given to me when I had PRK over 3 years ago and have fantastic durability. Both have a cheapness that let's me just throw them in my camelback or saddlebag and not worry about them.

If you sleep flat on your back, I'd suggest a good pair of earmuffs. (I can't find the specific model I have, but it is a very similar Peltor. Actually, it might be this one.) I find them much more effective than earplugs in real-world use, and they should last a lot longer.

You can even wear earplugs underneath.

>noise cancellation headphones

Are not always effective. In my second job I was seated behind this monstrosity of a pig who would spend all day gossipping as loud as she could (but became whisper quiet if it was something really juicy)

I could not get my work done and my boss was useless in making any meaningful changes so I bought some 100$ sennheiser active noise cancelling headphones.

It is pretty cool how they worked but they couldn't even silence that pig. They did definitely reduce the volume but not enough that it removed her voice completely.

I ended up buying these noise protection earmuffs

They seemed to reduce her voice by a significant margin so I could finally get my work done.

Unfortunately they are a bit tight so when I occasionally wear glasses, they start to hurt my head after a while because these earmuffs really push hard against your head.

u/DarkTurtle · 1 pointr/ReviewThis

Take these with these and make a DIY

u/martelo · 1 pointr/guns

I have those Impact Sports and they're pretty good. I like them for going to the range with a friend, as it lets me hear what they're saying even if I've doubled up with earplugs under the earmuffs. They're also good if I'm taking someone new, I let them use the electronic ones so they can hear me a little better.

But if I'm going by myself I'll use a pretty basic set of non-electronic Howard Leight "Leightning" earmuffs. They just fit my head a little better than the Impact Sports, the cup forms a better seal on the area right underneath my ear.

I use this shotgun case for my Maverick 88 with the 28" barrel, works just fine. I'd only bother with a nice hard case if I traveled with it (like on an airplane) and if my shotgun was a lot more valuable.

u/Never_Comfortable · 1 pointr/airsoft

Yeah, I figured it was ok to be little paranoid when it comes to protecting one of my five senses. I probably won't be buying the Pros (I don't have that kind of money to spend on one part of my kit. I mean they all protect the same, right?), so I'm probably gonna buy these instead.

u/pale_red_dot · 1 pointr/guns

I use those paired with these:

http://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-R-01523-Leightning-Lightweight/dp/B001BL04PS/ref=pd_cp_hi_3

May be overkill, but not inconvenient in the least. I also wear latex gloves to change my oil, so maybe I'm just a little more paranoid that most.

u/WWSSADADXZ · 1 pointr/guns

I bought a big bulk pack of Stanley in-ear foam earplugs and follow up with a pair of Howard Leight ultra lightweight compact folding earmuffs. The foam earplugs are cheap enough that I don't care if I lose them, and the Howard Leight earmuffs are small enough to fit 2-3 of them in my range bag easily in case I have friends come along.

I like the comfort of the setup as it offers a good double layer of protection, yet the Howard Leight earmuffs aren't in the way when I fire a rifle. I also wear them with eye protection no problem.

Your daughter sounds awesome! What a fun birthday party idea.

First, if you can find them in bulk, I would buy a bunch of lab coats for the kids. Along with rubber gloves, and possibly even some safety goggles, so that they really get the feeling like they're a scientist.

Then I would make some form of “flubber” for the kids to play with, because that seems like a mad scientist thing. Actually, you could even have them make their own to play with, to really get the scientist feel.

I would also make different colored jello in these test beakers, to get the feel like they're consuming weird concoctions. I think that would be awesome. Bonus points if there are candy eye balls in there.

You could also make some desserts that are fun, like "mud pies" with gummy worms, things like that!

To be completely honest though, I don't know the maturity level of an 8 year old, so I don't really know what might be cool to them. All I know is that I would want a party like the one I just came up with.. That sounds awesome.

You could also do an "experiment" with these where they have to taste different foods to see the changes in flavor.

Gummy brains for goody bags.

A variety of safety glasses for all your scientists!

I like surprises! :D

That way I have extra for friends. Or ya know, sunglasses. Honestly, I'm not too picky, biggest thing is making sure you have something that doesn't fog up on you.

Don't be sorry, you are doing an awesome thing, teaching, and I would deff look on amazon, make a wish list and edit your post. I found these and if you put something like this on a wish list, with your address, ppl can just buy and it will be mailed to you. http://www.amazon.com/Safety-Glasses-Intruder-Multi-Color/dp/B002KA00KS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1376196056&sr=8-2&keywords=childrens+safety+glasses

I have about 150 pairs of these, just over a $1 each so pretty cheap and they work great for any size head: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KA00KS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We keep them and reuse them every time. I have enough now that we don't really have to spend money on new ones any more.

If you were happy with using glasses, the Bolle Tracker glasses fit very close to my face. I'm not Asian, but no have the low nose bridge, and these are very snug (and cheap enough to give it a try to see). I've shot the shit out of these and they haven't scratched.

It's made by Honeywell, but you'll see them advertised as "Fibre-Metal Pipeliner". Not sure if Fibre-Metal is what they call the material (Which seems to be some sort of fiberglass variant), or if it's a subsidiary brand of Honeywell. THIS is the right one, and the exact one I have.

But as a word of warning, I hate the stock headgear. Some people seem to love it, but I couldn't get used to it. It's basically a rubber band on a clip, and I broke mine the first day I had it. I switched it out with THIS Jackson headgear. You'll have to drill out the square hole that the existing headgear uses, and then drill a few smaller holes where the adjustment tab clicks in. I had an easy time since the hood I use for TIG is a Jackson hood that uses that same headgear so I was able to make a template. If you're interested I could try to figure out what size the holes need to be and send you a picture of the layout tomorrow.

Also, if you want a flip-lens, Sellstrom sells a flip lens mod, but it does require significant cutting. I bought one a while back, but haven't had the guts to install it yet (Plus I'm worried about the extra weight.). Very handy if you're switching between welding and grinding a lot, or if you want to save your neck and avoid doing the nod every time you strike an arc.

Outlaw Leather also sells pre-modified Pipeliners. They're a little bit too out there for me, but I've seen a couple around the shop and they definitely get a lot of looks.

definitely get some info before you spend money on tools.

if 99% of what he does is PVC and PEX and copper, you can save a lot by not buying the pipe wrenches.

if he works with black iron or galvanized, he'll need the pipe wrenches.

a decent bag can go a long way to help too, but that's such a personal item it's hard to buy for him.

a good lunch box is a life saver.

a nice half mask respirator and some p100 filters is like $25 and can go a long way to encourage him to wear proper PPE. demo work is dirty. the box stores only carry medium or small, have to order online for a large.

the filters are 1/5th the price if you get them online VS the store. and he'll only need the p100 filters, not the cartridges, unless he's having to solder in restricted airflow environment, then he'll need cartridges.

his shop should provide PPE, but most small outfits seem to hand out crappy paper masks.

I imagine one of the positive pressure ones would work well. What they do is filter a stream of air and blow it onto the visor of a face mask, from inside. They cover your whole face, and gaps in the seal are nullified by the airflow going out of them. Unfortunately, cost is a big problem with these. The lower end trend one is ~$350-400, and if you want to go to truly the top of the line, the [3M Versaflo] (http://www.amazon.com/3M-Versaflo-Heavy-Industry-TR-300-HIK/dp/B007PB4C38/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458777520&sr=8-1&keywords=3m+versaflo) is of essentially unbeatable quality. These might be a little more of an investment than you were looking for, though.

My enclosure is large enough to keep the 120 mm fan with the filtration inside the case, so the noise is very little, also I put a speed control on it to control heat loss, as for the 5015 blower, that’s 100 inside the case and just keeps filtering the case air. The blower runs 100% of the time. The top fan only runs when I am printing, it turns on by Temperature. (Link below)

I've included the links to them on Amazon which is where I purchased them. I love the mask as it is easy to get a good seal and easy to take off. I have a small goatee and I get a perfect seal with this mask. I treated five different times last year and didn't smell anything or have any breathing issues after using the mask with the cartridges.

I'm not sure how well it works with stick arc, but this helmet works great with TIG and has a shade variability from 4-13. 4 sensors on it as well as a delay and sensitivity setting on it. It changes in the same speed that the one you found changes in and i think all the parts of replaceable including the batteries.

u/SuperSpy- · 1 pointr/Welding

I bought one of these a few years ago when I started getting into hobby welding with a cheapish flux core MIG machine (Lincoln weld-pak HD), and it's been great.

I don't know how well it would stand up to heavy use, but for me it's been a great helmet, and dirt cheap. Once I got the sensitivity and delay dialed in, I've never had any problems with arc flash (apart from the few times I forget to lower it >_<).

u/DrColdReality · 1 pointr/answers

Nope, you stand a fair chance of frying the image sensor. Ever use a magnifying glass on ants? Same deal.

If you put a decent solar filter in front of the lens, then it's safe. You can either use the filters found in eclipse glasses, or a #14 welder's filter. Both are 100% safe for viewing the Sun any time.

Once the Sun is completely covered, it is 100% safe to look at with the naked eye, binoculars, or anything else.

Understand that the size of the solar image you get from a camera phone is going to minuscule. I'm using a 600mm lens on a Nikon D810, and I'd still like a little more magnification. Get a solar filter and go out and try it now, don't wait until the eclipse. For a quick test, if you have a piece of silver mylar like they make balloons from, that will work OK for a short time.

Bona fides: amateur astronomer, former pro photographer, and experienced eclipse chaser. I'm gonna be in Madras, OR (along with perhaps 100,000 other people).

OMSI viewing party is way way sold out. I'm sure there's going to be all kinds of stuff for sale around then, but those looking to turn a quick buck might order some eclipse-viewing glasses now, and run around selling them in August. I got a cheap 10 pack of these for me and my buddies.

As always, when starting carving I always recommend getting a pair of cut gloves. They are less than $10 and even if you only wear one on the hand holding the wood, they can save you from some serious cuts.

Especially when first learning. If you’re trying to get through a knot, the grain takes the blade in an unexpected direction, or for whatever reason the blade slips.

They aren’t perfect, you can still stab directly into them, but it lessens the depth. But they will protect you from slices. Mine have paid for themselves at least three times through not having to visit the doctor for stitches.

Also, whatever knife you get, make sure it locks (if folding). The best way to cut the hand holding the knife is to have it fold closed on you.

u/SchrodingersCatfight · 1 pointr/blogsnark

Mandolins are so good but SO BAD. I deffo should have gone to urgent care for a past mandolin injury.

A friend (who knows what a clumsy cook I am) got me some of those stretchy cut resistant knife gloves as a gift last year.

Now I can make Zuni Café Zucchini pickles with impunity.

If you're listening to audiobooks, record the parts that you like such as end of chapter summaries and compile all the recordings at the end.
