Anyone have a link for that sweet helmet / face shield / filter?
Think I found the filter mask - 3M 7162 Full-Facepiece Spray Paint Respirator - Organic Vapor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002STR86/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_H.jRDbZDVESWJ
The replaceable filter is maybe this 3M product: https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/all-3m-products/~/3M-Organic-Vapor-Acid-Gas-Cartridge-Filter-60923-P100-60-EA-Case/?N=5002385+3294780263&rt=rud
I had a piss problem. If the subflooring isnt saturated, then you can use shellac or killz ultimate. If it is, take it down to the rafters, and paint the rafters instead. Shellac requires all windows open.
Only killz ultimate works, the others aren't rated for urine. If there is piss on the floors, it's likely in the floor molding and the bottom section of the drywall. Again, killz it or tear it out.
Do yourself a favor and buy a full face paint mask with organic type respirators before you begin. The urine smell gets 1000x worse in demolition. https://www.amazon.com/3M-7162-Full-Facepiece-Spray-Respirator/dp/B0002STR86/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1543380864&sr=8-13&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keyword

Valken Zulus are [Pyramex I-Force goggles](
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006WPSDXS/ref=s9_acsd_al_bw_c_x_1_w)
Valken Sierras are Pyramex V2G-XPs
Valken Echos are Pyramex Highlander XPs
Valken Axis are Pyramex V3Gs
Valken Alphas appear to be Pyramex Low Profile Chemical Splash goggles
The only goggles that Valken sells that aren't rebranded Pyramex goggles are the Tangos, and those are just knockoff Revision Desert Locusts.
Here's all the info:
Head strap replacement
Head strap to HMD adapter Shout out to /u/nw15062 for creating this!
Replacement Face pad: About Face VR (no longer in business)
Headphones: Koss PortaPro Shout out to /u/Mister-S for the original built-in headphones tutorial
Besides that I used a bunch of velcro straps for cable management and plastic velcro to keep the headphones mounted - I'll see if that becomes an issue down the line but it's working fine now.
Take the advice of the people that responded to you in your thread where you asked the exact same question 5 hours ago.
They don't look legit and you should probably get a proper set of eye protection like the Pyramex I-Force or Pyramex V2G-XP. They're so inexpensive that there's no excuse to NOT have properly rated eye protection. Don't take chances with your eyes, you only get one set in your life.
Ok. The Active sound cancellation, simply put, emits sound waves to cancel out sound waves. It's possible that there is a bleeding, if you will, of low frequencies and that's what might be giving you a headache.
If you want to avoid a headache you could try to use a pair of these with some standard ear buds and achieve the same effect.
Here are a couple things I'd suggest:
Mechanix M-pact gloves. I use them and they're great. Very comfy and provide very nice padding for your hands. I was shot in the hand maybe 5 times yesterday and they left no marks. Maybe get a different color, though. They come in tan, black, woodland, black and tan, black and red, yellow. Just a bunch of different ones. I'd suggest solid black or tan as they'll go with just about anything.
One Tigris mask. Very comfy, cheap, provides all the important protection (teeth, lips, nose) while still covering your cheeks. Again, try to choose a color he might like. Solid tan, green, or black would go with most load outs.
If he doesn't have eye protection I'd suggest Pyramex I-force or Pyramex V2G-XP. I use and love both. They've taken multiple shots with no dents, scratches, or cracks, and they don't fog.
I wouldn't suggest a pistol holster if he doens't have a pistol. It's just pointless then. Besides, you really should get a holster designed for your pistol. Universal holsters are usable at best.
I wouldn't suggest a vest either. That's something the person has to decide for themselves. They might want a low profile chest rig, or a large vest to provide protection, or maybe they just want a belt to hold things.
You could also get him a Visa pre-paid gift card. I know, it doesn't feel "personal", but I can tell you they're the best gifts I ever get.
Edit: Some of the cheap things on my Krytac:
I weaved Paracord through the rails. Makes it look Oper8r as hell, and it's comfy to hold. Really cheap as well. 50ft is $6 from the store I linked. Planet Paracord also has a lot of other colors.
I also use the Strike Industries keymod handstop kit. It makes a comfortable place to hold your gun, and it's completely customizable. While Black is sold out on AirsoftGI, they still have Coyote Brown, Flat Dark Earth, Grey, and Tan
One does not invalidate the other.
Yes drunk driving is awful and should be punished harshly.
But that doesn't mean someone wearing all black crossing the middle of the road at 10pm is completely not at fault. Personal responsibility is a thing. When I go for a run I have a reflective vest. They cost $7.00
Do I look a little silly? Yes. You know what looks even worse? My brains on the pavement.
How does your product differ from the available OEM gel cups by 3M/Peltor that are already on the market?
Such as: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DHVXKVA/
3M Rugged Comfort Respirator 12$ at amazon. This is my go-to respirator, I have about 5-6 of them, and I believe the lowest ever price on this item.
Do you have a receiving address in HK?
Mine is 3M, the kind of filter cartridge you'll need to buy is "organic vapor", and some work specifically with ammonia which might help.
Edit: Something like this one:https://www.amazon.com/3M-Respirator-Facepiece-Adjustable-6200/dp/B00D7KXD6I and here's your filter: https://www.amazon.com/3M-6001PB1-1-Organic-Replacement-Cartridge/dp/B000XBKLLE/ref=sr_1_6?crid=KM8UK7XG0HG0&keywords=6001%2Bvapor%2Bcartridge&qid=1555892435&s=hi&sprefix=6001%2B%2Ctools%2C147&sr=1-6&th=1&psc=1
I don't see safety gear on here. Take that $20 you were going to spend on a grinding wheel and pick this up before you get anything else: Face Shield
I'm going to assume you already have safety glasses. Make sure to use both; the face shield is not intended to be a replacement for safety glasses.
Once you have all of that...save more money! Depending on what you like to turn, you've got plenty more that you're going to want to buy:
General Accessories: Live center & jacob's chuck for your tailstock. A good light that you can reposition as needed. Some sort of rack to keep your chisels close at hand (you can make this if you have the tools to do so). Grinding supplies (grinder, grinding jig/accessories, slip stones/strops, aluminum oxide grinding wheel - assuming you're using a standard dry grinder). A smock (trust me on this one).
Pen Turning: Pen mill, drill bits (keep in mind most pen kits use metric sizes), pen mandrel, different sized bushings (assuming you want to turn different pen styles), pen press for assembly purposes.
Bowl/Vessel Turning: 4-jaw chuck (these can get pricey; there's some on the market that cost more than your Rikon lathe), additional jaws for your 4-jaw chuck, specialty turning tools (bowl gouges, hollowing tools), and many more things that start to get handy as you work on larger projects.
Turning's a fun hobby, but like any hobby worth a damn, it's not cheap. :)
Edit: One thing I haven't seen mentioned is looking for a used lathe. Modern ones tend to get snapped up pretty quickly on Craigslist, but if you can get lucky enough to come across one, you might save yourself some cash.
Details:
Based of this post by /u/veriix and the headstrap adapter by /u/nw15062 using this as the headstrap replacement.
It blows my mind how well it works. It took a bit of tweaking, sizing, etc, to get it set up just right. I was skeptical thinking it might only make a very VERY slight difference compared to the default Vive velcro straps... but thankfully I was mistaken. It makes a huge difference.
The headstrap seems to hug your head like I imagine the PSVR head-mount does. All the extra cushion really helps, and thanks to the slight downward angle of the adapter between the straps and HMD itself, there is a super handy pivot outwards effect that when worn, the headset just ever-so-gently slips down towards your face with only about ~5-10% of the pressure compared to the default straps.
Basically, it essentially eliminates the all of the weight from the HMD resing on your forehead / cheekbones... and taking it on and off is super comfortable as it pivots up and out, away from your face when taking it off or peeking out from under.
EDIT: After playing with it for a bit, I have came to the conclusion that it's about 20% more comfortable on the head, but removes about 90% of the front-weight face pressure. It could be more comfortable around the temples when tightening it all down.
This mask combined with these cartridges will let you walk through tear gas like you're invincible.
Here are tips:
Acquired a pair of these when I worked at a BBQ restaurant. Still use them when I get the mandolin out. I have gotten quite attached to my fingertips over the years and plan to keep it that way.
Besides keeping your knives sharp in the kitchen (dull knives cause more injuries than sharp ones!) everyone should have at least one cut resistant glove in their kitchen for when you're doing stuff like a lot of chopping/cutting or especially when you're using the great finger-tip eating Mandolin.
Cheaper than stitches...at least in the US. I'm sure you Canadian and European fans are just slicing your hands up all over the place knowing your healthcare is better and cheaper. May as well get your money's worth!
A good drill is key. It's silly to stick to one brand (many people have the bs brand loyalty fetish and I'm not sure why). You'll also want to get a variety of drill bits to go with drill. Go to garage sales and start hoarding nails, screws, etc at cheap prices.
My recommendations below are based on at least 5 hours of research and shopping around. There are some things I'd probably add to the list (like a hand saw and dremel) but this takes care of a lot of your big needs. I own everything on the list and am pleased with it all, especially in terms of a performance for value ratio.
The key is know what you want then shop around / wait for the best prices (track prices in spreadsheet). Use google shopping to compare prices and see who price matches plus has best ebates or Ibotta cash back % + consider buying gift cards at a discount on Raise or elsewhere to further maximize savings (or just go with whatever credit card gets best points on particular site). Add Google Chrome app "Honey" to have coupon codes auto applied (eliminates time searching for them).
Also, I'd strongly consider getting a credit card with a decent bonus that will essentially help you get these items for free (assuming you can achieve the bonus spend with money you're already paying on existing bills / monthly purchases - it's a no-brainer in this case) - Chase's Sapphire Preferred is a good place to start ($500 bonus for 4K spend in 3 months)
Consider waiting until Black Friday (and from Jan to end of feb) for the good deals.
Drill (get a decent to really good one - you'll use it often)
Circular Saw
Multi-tool
Miter saw
Respirator
Horse (the 'roided out version)
Sander (makes a huge difference): I've seen it in the low $40 range
I commute to work at night as well. I use a Cygolite Expillion 350 headlight on the front and two Planet Bike Superflash taillights on the back. I also wear a yellow traffic safety vest with retro-reflective stripes.
I have been riding at night for more than a year now without incident. I have been told by a coworker who passed me riding to work at night that he could see me a half mile away, lit up and glowing like a Christmas tree. All of this stuff will cost about $100, but it could save your life.
I use the 3M quick latch with the P100 particulate filters. I've been very pleased. My brother swears by the RZ Masks. I bought a couple and don't find them all that comfortable unfortunately.
Get a full face mask.
I doI painted my roommates car and got a 3m full face mask. It pulls fresh air through the eye area then out the front so it never fogs up, it's also got tear offs and provides eye protection, I wear it all the time now when sanding or painting (in paint the stuff get's absorbed through your skin)it's a small price to pay to live longer
http://www.amazon.com/3M-7162-Full-Facepiece-Spray-Respirator/dp/B0002STR86/ref=sr_1_11?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1407984949&sr=1-11&keywords=full+face
what I got
I love these gloves when forging
I personally use the 3M 6502QL paired with their organic vapor cartridge. I've worn it for almost 8 hours at a time on some jobs and it's been very comfy. Definitely a good idea to wear one of these around the harsher cleaners and to avoid compound dust; some of it can be fairly carcinogenic. Good to see someone thinking about PPE!
This is the one I own, and it's great. I took it off about 90 seconds before this happened because it was fogging up and I thought "eh, it'll be fine. Not like this is gonna come flying out of the chuck..."
Noted. Thanks I ordered these for starters. If these aren't what you're talking about could you share a link?
Just for myself and my gf, I bought a box of N95 paper respirators back in the 2015 wildfire season, and just invested in some more heavy-duty hardware since this is coming a thing:
$25 - 3M Half facepiece reusable respirator
$15 - 2-pack 3M NIOSH-approved P100 particulate and organic gas filter
If your employer doesn't care about your health, you should!
Pretty much just this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1696706 and the miller headgear from cyberweld (amazon has it but its like 10 bucks more when I ordered) then add kross porta pro and a couple guess drills because the hole on that bracket is terrible for me... pretty simple
Get a cheap food grade kevlar glove on Amazon! They are not very expensive at all and super duper helpful in not getting hurt with a mandoline.
I suggest you wear one of these when you have you bussy in the air.
A P100 dust mask. I went from months of lung recovery time to zero time needed for recovery. Playa is so small that our lungs can't easily clear the particles, suggesting that health problems similar to those cause by asbestos and silica may be in some of our futures. N95 and N99 masks are insufficient.
Noise isolation is pretty much identical to the Earpods. It's too bad... I wish they made in-ear Airpods... I've even considered making a silicone cover that makes them go into the ear canal more, but then they wouldn't fit in the charging case. For the most part, it isn't horrible, but it's still a part of using them.
That said, a couple things you might not know...
YMMV, of course.
From SurvivalistBoards, to address the notion that amazon took them down under pressure from US Govt so people couldn't loiter in a tear-gassed location:
"For use specifically against CS/tear gas type exposure almost any filtering respirator will do. CS is not truly a gas but is a micro pulverized particulate which can float in the air like dust. So any good particulate filtering mask will satisfactorily defend against CS. Just be sure it fits well and seals against the face without gaps, then you will need to protect the eyes with snug goggles or use a full face mask. Filters for ordinary paint respirators would work and could be replaced cheaply and as often as you felt necessary to provide good flow, but should last quite long and still work."
Amazon does still have civilian models like this full face mask that would do the trick against tear gas.
Or you could get some sweet goggles.
I wonder how different these are from these much cheaper welding goggles
Edit: sounds like you need welding goggles with a rating of 14 or higher so the linked ones (rating of 5) won't work.
> why only during an eclipse?
It is not only during a solar eclipse that staring at the sun is bad for your eyes. People just need to be reminded during a solar eclipse since staring directly at the sun is how you witness the event.
> Also, how can I protect myself without some fancy-dancy special glasses for 50 bucks?
Welding goggles can be found for less than $10. You should probably buy darker lenses, which can also be found for less than $10. I would suggest a #14 shade or higher.
This is exactly what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017Z04SK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
There is a cheaper version on Amazon that is advertised for this purpose: FlexiFreeze Ice Vest (Velcro Closure)
You might want one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001P30358/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1466027537&sr=8-1&pi=SL75_QL70&keywords=cooling+vest
I work in the hazmat industry and agree with the previous posts. Grab a 3M half-face respirator. I’d shoot for either p100 “pancake” filters (dust protection and very light vapor protection on a budget) or organic vapor for the same dust protection and extreme vapor/fume protection
I use this respirator that vents down. Never causes my glasses to fog. I'm sure any respirator that vents down will avoid the issue.
That respirator is this model exactly: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Respirator-6300-Respiratory-Protection/dp/B007QY8X2K/ (3M 6000 series half-facepiece respirator)
It comes in 3 sizes (model numbers in parenthesis). Small (6100) /Medium (6200) /Large (6300). Small fits my tiny girlfriend very well. I wear a medium and have an average to largeish head. Small is a pale grey, medum is medium gray, and large is almost black.
This model in particular is made of a TPU plastic which is... not that comfortable, to be honest. Wearing it for a couple hours will leave you with marks on your face (ridge of nose primarily) that take a day or two to go away.
For a few dollars more you can get the 7500 series, which is miles more comfortable because of the silicone face seal: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Facepiece-Respirator-Respiratory-Protection/dp/B008MCUT86/
Then all you need is a pair of replaceable filters, which you should purchase based upon your work or the potential hazards wherever you are exploring.
For most UrbEx type situations i'd imagine a P100 filter will suffice (P means oil and non oil particulate and 100 is the percent it filters out - realistically its 99.97%, but close enough... don't risk your health with anything lower than 100).
These are my favorite particulate filters (high flow and nuisance organic vapor releif): https://www.amazon.com/3M-Advanced-Particulate-Respiratory-Protection/dp/B009POHH94/
For really sketchy stuff you'll want a combo unit which has multi-gas and particulate filters (which you shouldn't do anyway): https://www.amazon.com/3M-Cartridge-60926-Respiratory-Protection/dp/B009POHLRC/
To summarize: So yeah, get yourself a mask that fits well and filters for the specific job/location you're doing/visiting.
You do not need pants. I just use jeans, and the the apron over a jacket. Here is what I use:
Get one of these for sure.

Jacket has some options. Sleeves and an apron:

or a plain jacket, but look around. This price on amazon seems high. You might be able to find something like this locally for less.

And I use this :http://www.amazon.com/Miller-Genuine-Leather-Indura-Welding/dp/B003IL2RCM/ref=sr_1_10?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1382001569&sr=1-10&keywords=miller+jacket
I have two pairs of these.
Super warm in the winter, too.
Welding Goggles: https://www.amazon.com/Hobart-770096-Welding-Oxy-Acetylene-Goggle/dp/B0017Z04SK
Frost's jacket is going to be a tough one. It is a Bomber Jacket with fur collar and I have never seen one in white/arctic camo.

https://smile.amazon.com/Ergodyne-Chill-Its-6602-Evaporative-Cooling/dp/B001B5I57I/ref=sr_1_8?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1496598431&sr=1-8&keywords=cooling+towel
Something like that or,
https://smile.amazon.com/FlexiFreeze-Ice-Vest-Velcro-Closure/dp/B001P30358/ref=sr_1_4?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1496598521&sr=1-4&keywords=cooling+vest
A vest with gel packs inside that can stay colder longer.
Typically they add a disguised vent or a couple of cooling fans or something. Domes, helmets, mascots & furrys with full head pieces, cosplays, etc.
For full body suits like that, or in warmer environments, some people make or buy a shirt or vest, with pockets sewn in for those gel pouches you put in the freezer
Adam Savage built a liquid cooling system that circulated water through tubes sewn to an undergarment, based on tech used in actual spacesuits. And I've seen a couple of projects that use solid state Peltier cooling units attached to a shirt or vest for cooling. And there are also commercial available versions of both of those, if you're less of a DIYer.
I suck at photoshop.

Not trying to start a protest but, https://smile.amazon.com/Neiko-53941A-Visibility-Safety-Yellow/dp/B0030AA3YK/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=yellow+vest&qid=1555531309&s=gateway&sr=8-3
Pyramex I-Force or V2G-XPs are great. I own a pair of both and love them.
If you're a fan of your teeth a mesh mask is definitely a good thing to get, especially if you're fighting in CQB at all. I recommend the Striker V1 from Evike or the OneTigris ones.
3M makes all kinds of good masks, but in general they come with 'attachments'. So you buy the filters and screw them on both sides.
I have both particulate filters (non gas) and gas filters (that also do particulates) but there's a huge range of different ones for different purposes.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B008MCUT86
This is a very common model and works well.
https://smile.amazon.com/3M-Cartridge-60926-Respiratory-Protection/dp/B009POHLRC
Here's an example of filter 60926 which does gas & vapor, organic, acid gas, ammonia, methylamine, and formaldehyde. Would most likely cover pepper spray too.
I bought these and shortly after bought a pair of thick Peltor muffs. Having compared the two, the Howard Leights are a fantastic bargain compared to regular slim earmuffs but I strongly recommend going for the Peltors if you only intend to wear muffs and not doubling up with ear plugs and muffs. Shooting without doubling up on these is not possible if you are near anyone who is firing a rifle or is using a brake.
Stereo sound from the Peltors was a huge improvement over the Howard Leight's mono sound. Once you hear the difference, you see what an improvement it is being able to hear where sounds are coming from.
The Peltor set is far more comfortable. As in inflatable mattress vs memory foam mattress difference in comfort. This is to be expected from the price difference, but they are perfectly comfortable for hours and hours. I don't have grass to mow here in the desert but I can imagine these would be great for mowing a big yard. They're like pillows for your ears, seriously. And I just found out that they make Gel pads
If it is in your budget, you can get the Peltors for $180ish when you can catch them on sale.
the problem is, most people uses that kind of facial mask, which is as you said not enough protection but better than nothing.
which is best replaced daily or just after each use.
and yes, the ones I linked originally, the https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/all-3m-products/~/All-3M-Products/Safety/Worker-Health-Safety/Personal-Protective-Equipment/Reusable-Respirators/Cartridges-Filters/?N=5002385+8709322+8711017+8711405+8720539+8720550+8720746+3294857497&rt=r3 stuff should last a lot longer and be reuseable, and is meant for way more adverse environment than the air outside.
and as mentioned P100 would help better, since this is not just common dust but also burned particulates which 99.9 filtering is better.
but, like my coworkers said, they do look ridiculous in an office setting https://www.amazon.com/3M-Personal-Protective-Equipment-51131494904/dp/B00IF7RBS4/ref=pd_cp_200_2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=ef4dc990-a9ca-4945-ae0b-f8d549198ed6&pf_rd_r=APCTV9YYHGWA8H78Z0DT&pd_rd_wg=FjJaw&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&pd_rd_w=PQKC6&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pd_rd_r=bf2690e6-e919-11e8-93f7-555294ed87de&pd_rd_i=B00IF7RBS4&psc=1&refRID=APCTV9YYHGWA8H78Z0DT
>Whether it's actually lead or not, you should wear a good mask with an actual filter (not just one of those cheapos).
For those of us in the cheap seats, just watching this conversation and trying to learn what they can, when you say "good mask", are you talking about something like this.
Or a something that covers the entire face, like this.
Yes! You don't only need one if you "can feel it" -- even if you feel nothing you can be doing long term damage.
I like this one, much more comfortable and makes a real seal against your face compared to the cloth or paper ones:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IF7RBS4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
make sure to get p100 or n95 particle filters for it
The only place I would start is what kind you are looking for. If you want big goggles I recommend the Desert Locust Goggles if you want regular smaller goggles the Pyramex I Force is good too. If you want glasses, if your field allows for them I will reccomend the Revision Sawfly's.
Most rifles today will come with a Breech Lock (also called a Cable Lock) which is really padlock to secure the gun.
As an example -

There are also Trigger Locks, but as I said, you will get a free Breech Lock with the gun -

A box of ammunition -
A good place to start is with CCI Standard (50 rounds per box, 1070fps). If that has trouble pushing the bolt back in a reliable way (though it works fine for me) then switch to CCI Mini-Mag (50 or 100 rounds per box, 1235fps). Later you can work out what ammo you like best.
CCI Standard are a lot easier on the ears.
Ear Plugs -
There are several types, some are just foam plugs you put in your ears. I don't personally like those, but they are super cheap. One step up would be the same plugs on a String that you can hang around your neck.

As an example -

Allen is a maker of Gun Cases, and I know Walmart has them. Get a case that will accommodate a Scope should you decide to add one later -
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Allen-451A-Scoped-Rifle-Case-46-Nylon-Oakbrush-Camo/41577252
Also a Cleaning Kit -
I cheaped out and got the most minimal kit. Far better to buy one of the better ones that come with a case, and various attachments. It may seem like a lot, but the price is low, and likely you will end up spending more money if you don't get the full kit -

You will need some type of Eye Protection. If you wear glasses that's fine, good enough. Otherwise common Safety Glasses -

I'm using various website simply for the Photos and Prices, everything listed here is very common, and Ear Plugs and Safety Glasses can be bought at places like Home Depot (and similar).
Walmart likely has all this stuff in their Store.
Again, buy the full cleaning kit with a case. I bought the most minimum .22 Caliber Kit, and then had to find a case. With all the running around trying to find a case for the kit, then when I started adding accessories, I ended up spending more than just buying the full cleaning kit outright. Walmart will have several brands of Full kits like the example above. Just make sure it includes .22 Cal, and you are set. Very reasonably priced.
If you're still looking for a solution, you should try [these](https://www.amazon.com/d /B01L1U9L5W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_RnvMAb1TJBH9D). I use them in my college's library because people don't understand the concept of silence.
The little paper ones? They're better than nothing but I wouldn't say enough.
I use [this one]

What hood do you have that your respirator doesn't fit? I have an ESAB Sentinel which is quite close fitting to the face and it fits just fine.
I use this one. It does a great job, but in my experience it helps if you are clean shaven. Throw some of these on it and you'll be hot to trot. I don't get any extra goggle fog than I do just wearing my goggles on their own.
gloves, something along the lines of these:
https://www.amazon.com/NoCry-Cut-Resistant-Gloves-Performance/dp/B00IVM1TKO?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_2
everyone's talking about graters and microplanes and that's all well and good til you get a nice big chunk out of your hands.
Are they a little goofy? yes, sure. will you cut your hands? no!
That's quitter talk. Go put these on and make her happy.
Or just buy cut resistant gloves. I have a pair, and I never use a mandolin without it.
Mind you I have only used this stuff to carve this one tiny thing but I figure I can always upgrade to different tools if I stick with it for a while and decide these things need an upgrade. Next time I buy supplies, I’m definitely finding another retailer for larger pieces of Basswood though. The selection on Amazon sucks a bit.

I use this one because it's small, comfortable, and works well:
https://www.amazon.com/GVS-SPR457-Elipse-Respirator-Medium/dp/B013SIIBFQ
I know if I had a big bulky one, I'd be less inclined to actually wear it.
I also really like these disposable respirators because they're comfortable to wear for a long time, and I can toss them if I'm doing something really messy (and this is a good price, too):

I've tried many different dust masks and this is the most comfortable and best value mask I've found. I've tired 2 different versions of the RZ and hate they way they fit. the 3M respirators are ok, and I have one of those with organic filters for painting, but the Elipse is the best for me, especially when wearing other safety gear, like glasses, and over the ear hearing protection.
The battery type in that gun is a 'nunchuck' type which exists out of 2 stick batteries wired together. Extra magazines depends on where you play and how trigger happy you would be:
If I'd be you, I'd just get the gun with a nunchuck battery (9.6V NimH or 7.4 Li-PO) (fits in the stock of the gun) and a decent smartcharger. Play some matches in your local fields (make sure you have some fields near you before you buy anything) and search for your favorite field and adapt your gear towards that.
Accessories aren't a must have, but a nice grip (I prefer an angled one) could give you some good comfort. Also a simple sling will save you from dropping your gun by accident. A scope again depends on the environment you play in, if it's CQB get an open reflex sight it makes aiming so easy. If it's outdoor, get a red dot which could have magnification (prices go up very quickly!). Flashlights are useful but expensive, laser sights are forbidden in some countries like mine.
But most importantly, get some good eye/face protection, some which have been repeatedly advised:
https://www.amazon.com/OneTigris-Comfortable-Adjustable-Protective-Available/dp/B01KT0HEW2/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1483779165&sr=1-1&keywords=onetigris+half+mask
Don't go about and buy plate carriers / camo before you know what you actually want, this sport is a money drain, use your money whise is my last advise.
If you’re in the states unissued/lightly used ESS googles can be bought off ebay for like 20 bucks or on amazon pyramex I forces are only 15. Neither have fogged on me. From the 2 I’d recommend the I forces over ESS goggles because the thinner low profile lets the cooperate with lower mask much easier.
Edit: saw you wanted a link
Please do not use non-airsoft rated googles, they really aren’t that expensive, you only have two eyes, here’re a pair of good ANSI z87.1 rated airsoft goggles that don’t fog
https://www.amazon.com/Pyramex-I-Force-Sporty-Anti-Fog-Goggles/dp/B01GOR9756
You should be able to find some cheapies. I don't like spending too much on goggles, I seem to scratch them more than glasses. last pair cost $15. Just had another thought, you could try these: https://www.amazon.com/Pyramex-I-Force-Sporty-Anti-Fog-Goggle/dp/B01GOR9756/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_200_bs_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=Q8YC76THGDP9Z7C6EKE8
Active duty military wear something like these to protect their eyes during sand storms in the middle east. you can get nice ones from Oakley or smith as well, but these cheapies would probably work to at least see if the concept works for you.
I too am autistic. When I want / need silence and can't just walk away, I will just layer up.
https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Reduction-Protection-Adjustable-Professional/dp/B01L1U9L5W/ref=zg_bs_553558_8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=5M812914K4V7MSHGMEEY
You might want to look at these, and just put them over top of even some cheap (or nice) in ear headphones.
If you are going to go with something over $100, try to get something with an MMCX connector so you can replace the cable if it gets snagged.
I bought ear muffs designed for ear protection while shooting guns to use while I blend smoothies. Now I wear them when I vacuum, or when I’m cooking with the hood fan on.
10/10 purchase. I bought them because the noise-cancelling headphones I bought were shit and I couldnt afford the real “good ones.” Ear muffs were like $12 here
Edit: oh I should also say: I started crying when I was cat sitting a cat that meowed loudly. I only had to be there for like 30ish min every other day. I fucking hated it. I then was heartbroken when I learned my newly adopted cat meows and I was afraid I wouldn’t love him and would be miserable (he’s not as bad as the other cat tho, I’m used to it now, and I manage his feeding and attention/snuggles to minimize it). A barking dog would be a huge no for me.
I am in a similar situation. Since the eclipse, which I viewed with ISO approved glasses, I have struggled with light sensitivity and blurry vision (that comes and goes at all distances...like my eyes can't focus) to a point where I develop eye strain by mid-day and headaches by the end of the day and occasional nausea in the morning when the blurriness is worst. I do not seem to have blind spots but I am seeing more floaters.
I posted some of this info with my one-star amazon review of the glasses, and I am not alone. Check out some of the other reviews there.
I did go to the Ophthalmologist on Friday, and - good news - they couldn't find any damage to my retinas. Bad news - I still don't know what's wrong with me and am afraid it won't get better (or may get worse).
Please post updates!

I politely disagree. I just bought some of these today, for delivery on Friday: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B01NB09NHK/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new
Here's a list of reputable vendors. And here is a link to the ones I ordered that are on that list. I've tested them out and they work fine.
The cheapest I could find on the internet that were actually ISO certified were these. I bought them myself and they're coming in the mail today, I found them through NASA's website.
If you order them now and get the one day shipping, you might be able to get them in time. The prices for ISO certified eclipse glasses basically doubled on most of the websites a few months ago, so unfortunately they're insanely priced until after the eclipse.
Welding gloves work really well, too.
http://www.amazon.com/US-Forge-400-Welding-Leather/dp/B000MRQAJG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452776161&sr=8-1&keywords=welding+gloves
I have had this set for 2 years and use them for shuffling logs, moving embers for cooking, moving pots and dutch ovens, and moving charcoal in a grill. Not really recommended, but they work great. Think of them as super oven mitts.
I'd buy these over those.
Specifically, a mask with VOC cartridges. Something like a paper mask won't block the solvent fumes.
I honestly am not too educated on respirators. At work (a painting company) we had HEPA filters for when we were scraping and sanding, and then NIOSH filters for when we sprayed paint, but I bought a mask at lowes for personal use that had organic filters and .1 micron filtering, which for me meant I used the same filters for everything. If I'm painting I can't smell it, and when I sand wood I get no noticeable dust in the mask. Other than that I really don't know too much about respirators.
As far as I'm aware though, HEPA is particle filtering, and NIOSH is organic (activated carbon) filtering, so I'm thinking you would want either a NIOSH filter, or the combination thing lowes sells (the combo filters are more expensive, but worth it)
As a side note, they say you should replace the filters after 8 hours of use, but I've got probably 200 hours on the filters on my personal mask and its just starting to not fully filter the organic stuff.

FlexiFreeze Ice Vest, Navy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001P30358/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_F.1pxbGANCW5J
Well If you have a freezer at both ends of the walk, and have totally given up on any social acceptance, Ice Vests are a thing. Or you can hold your wrists, or head, or both (large veins, close to the skin) under cold running water to cool yourself.
> Marz Direct
As of right now, searches on Amazon for Marz Direct as a vendor yields only one item being sold by them; some Dymo labels. There are other ice vests on Amazon though.
So, back when I lived in OC, we had the same issue at the apartment we had - hot as fuck and no AC. So, I bought this after too much wine, and too much heat. Everyone laughed at me - but I swear, everyone's who's put it on on days like this wants one. You look like an idiot, but even my wife grabbed it yesterday after biking home from work.
Why stop there?
This will add lens protection and much much more. It is also BIONIC.
It's worth it's weight in gold; at least once a month it stops a big chunk from getting me in the neck or face. This one's been serving me well.

Here's the $8.50 version that I got on amazon. Useful if you are nowhere near an Ikea but are in amazon's shipping zone.
To get started you really only need protective gear and a gun.
For protective gear, I'd either recommend an inexpensive paintball mask like this or a lower mesh mask and goggles
For a gun, I'd recommend something like a G&G CM Raider or a KA TWS or a CYMA AK or something similar (M4 or AK is preferrable). Make a list of the best looking guns in your budget and post back here to help narrow it down. The high cap that comes with the gun should be enough, and if you really want then you can buy an extra one which will definitely be enough.
From there you will want a battery and charger from HobbyKing (I wont make specific recommendations since it will depend on the gun) and some good quality BBs (I wont make a recommendation as this depends on where you are playing).
It is more than possible to get into the game with that kind of budget, settle on the absolute essentials (protective gear first, then gun, battery, charger, and BBs) and then you can look at investing in other areas in your gear. I'd recommend that you play for a good while before expanding your loadout so that you specialise in an area that you really enjoy playing.
Check the super useful links in the sidebar for more information and good luck!

I like the 3m half face masks. They are more comfortable than disposable masks and you can get all kinds of cartridges for them. I used them for years along with full face masks. They are quite comfortable for a 12 hour shift.

They also come apart quite easily so you can wash them in the sink.

If you can, buy a reusable respirator and some P100 filters. It's much more effective than N95 masks. (Note that the 3M respirators come in 3 sizes, medium is supposed to fit 85% of users.)
The first (and last) time I used an angle grinder without a respirator, I wound up with a sore upper respiratory tract for a solid month. Respirators are cheap. If your instructor won't provide one, buy your own. Hell, buy your own anyways. They can be useful around the house if you ever decide to paint or do renovations, or even if you have a particularly stinky S.O. in the bathroom.
This respirator with these filters are what I use. P100, which means oil-proof and blocks 99.97% of particles, plus nuisance-level organic vapor filtering.
http://www.amazon.com/3M-Comfort-Facepiece-Reusable-Respirator/dp/B00IF7RCU6/
And these filters: http://www.amazon.com/Tekk-Particulate-Nuisance-Organic-Release/dp/B007STCT00/
Oh nothing wrong with N95 - definitely has its uses. It's good, basic filtration, but the same job can be accomplished by a $0.75 dust mask.
Here's some info on the N## and P## filtration ratings: https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/topics/respirators/disp_part/default.html
What mask or respirator you use will depend upon your uses. What did you have in mind?

Personally, I keep some of these around for most random uses that come up: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TVSY9O/

And I have this respirator: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008MCUT86/

for more serious contaminants, extended use, or to block oils and vapors.
Welding headgear- any should do if you happen to have one laying around, but you want to make sure it has 2 straps over the top instead of just 1 which you find with the cheaper ones. It provides more distributed support. This one should do. I use this one, but the one I found for you just seems better.
.
3D printable adapter piece that connects the Vive to the Welding mask. If you do not have access to a 3D printer this job may cost you ~$15-20.
.
That's it, all you would need to do it cut off the front piece of the mask so the sides are flush and use some zipties or velcro to attach the cable coming from the HMD to at least one of the 2 straps on your head for further stability. Overall the price to purchase everything fresh would probably lean around $40-45. If you feel the integrated headphones are worth if for the extra $55 + HTC Shipping then go for the DAS, for me though it was a non-issue.
EDIT: If you need pictures of my setup I can post them, but once you get the parts it's pretty intuitive what you need to do.
For 30 bucks... A 3m chemical respirator is a lot more bang for the buck than shitty expired military gas masks...

And some filter packs.
If you want to step it up. These run about 100 bucks. This is what people exposed to toxic fumes use.

All in ones with speakers built in are terrible.
Lowest budget decent to start with entry level turntable is Audio Technica LP60XUSB £119. Or look for a better used vintage turntable for possibly less.
Low budget speakers: Mordaunt Short M10 £59 with low budget amp IMG Stageline SA-50 £59 or SMSL SA-50 £63 mini amp. Add speaker wire: AmazonBasics 14-Gauge or similar, then 4 Ways to Strip Wire - wikiHow.
Or powered speakers: Tibo PLUS 2.1 £149.
Or look for a used integrated amp, stereo or AV receiver and a pair of used bookshelf speakers for less.
Well FWIW this mask and this mask both exceed military standards for CBN protection. So that could, if you weren't in a direct blast area, help you get somewhere to safety within 40-80 hours. Just don't expect to be eating or drinking in those things. Or having facial hair if you need to use them. I might have to spring for the goatee look. *Sigh* And also get my eyes lasered.
Edit: For clarification, if you're concerned about CBN stuff and you go with the 3M mask these are the filters to get. You want P100 Acid/Gas filters.
I almost ordered the HL Impact Sports the other day when they popped up here, but decided against it after reading some reviews.
Someone in the HL thread said you can combo the Peltor 100s with these gel sealing rings to get very high quality ear protection. For $92 combined (after tax for me) I figured it's worth a shot.
I currently use the Peltor Sport Tactical 100 ($50) which does have a very basic compression circuit. At least from my personal experience, the noise suppression performance in that model is better and the sound more natural than the Howard Leight Impact Sports, though both pale in comparison to my employer-provided MSA Sordins.
If I was in the market for a new set, I'd probably be looking at:
Of course, any set of Peltors I might buy would also get 3M camelback gel pads installed, which adds another $40. The difference in comfort with those pads is amazing; with the standard soft plastic pads the Peltors get uncomfortable for me after an hour or two, but with the gel pads I'm fine wearing them for the duration of 10+ hour international flights. The MSA Sordins come with similar gel pads installed, but overall they're $100 more than the Peltor 500 + gel pads.
So yeah, if I were buying today, I would most likely spring for the Peltor Sport Tactical 500 + camelback gel pads for a total of $160. If Bluetooth is not useful for you, you could save $20 by dropping down to the Peltor Sport Tactical 300.
Even just the $50 Peltor 100s should be a significant improvement over the Howard Leight Impact Sports or Peltor RangeGuards.
Cost a little more but this is what you're looking for: 3M Personal Protective Equipment PELTOR Camelback Gel Sealing Rings HY80, Comfort Replacement Earmuff Cushions, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DHVXKVA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_UcXVDbPMAY9ZB
They seal really well and are way more comfortable than the standard earpieces on most Peltors.
I'm currently using this one
https://www.amazon.com/3M-7162-Full-Facepiece-Spray-Respirator/dp/B0002STR86
It's pretty good, it blocks pretty much all the fumes. I believe when it comes to your health you shouldn't be cheap about it.
One of these would also work, I believe. Filters are swappable, so think you can get ones for material other than paint. Much cheaper too.
It's not like it comes up halfway to the elbow, just a bit higher up the arm.
Another option is welder's gloves! These are under $11 (Prime) for a PAIR! And these extra length gloves are $16.50 (again, Prime) also for a pair.
I suspect you could find the welding gloves cheaper at a local hardware store. I bought the welding gloves based on Alton Brown's recommendation, but the Ove Glove and Pitt Mitt have better dexterity, so I prefer them for oven use.
my oven mitts. You can get uglier for 5$ or goes to your elbows for 15$.

I have a pair of $10 leather heavy welding gloves that I use religiously in the kitchen and they're pretty awesome.
You get more dexterity from them than any other glove I've used and they can withstand far more punishment than you can ever give them. And they're cheap as well. Most hardware stores carry the basic Lincoln Electric gray pair and those will serve you well.
My only gripe is they can't be just thrown in the wash to clean them but that's a small price to pay for the best pair of oven mitts I've ever used.
Maybe not the best for pulling pork, but welders gloves are great for the grill. They can be had for not much more than a good pair of leather gardening gloves.

I recently started teaching myself to MIG weld in my garage, and went with these products:
I can attest to them being quality products, especially considering their price. I didn't get a cap, because I didn't really know that was a thing... but I just wear a baseball cap backwards and it seems to work fine.
That's very thoughtful of you. I'm not a safety expert and you should read the instructions on anything you purchase, but here's my experience.
The 2 masks I use are a 3M respirator like this and an RZ dust mask like this. The RZ dust mask is much lighter, but it never seems to get a great seal, and the fact that I can still smell sawdust or solvents when using it makes me not trust how protective it is. I really like the 3M respirator and would recommend it over the RZ. I have not tried the Elipse mask yet, but it might be my next purchase just to see if I like it better than the 3M.
Just remember that there are 2 kinds of filters for the 3M - pink ones for dust, and white ones like this or this grey one for filtering chemicals, or Organic Vapors. The dust ones last a while before needing to be replaced. The white/grey ones only last a couple days once you open the bags, because they contain activated charcoal that is constantly absorbing materials from the air until they become saturated. They'll still act as a dust mask after that initial ~48 hours, but if you're painting or applying finish, you should use a new one. Storing in ziplock bags can prolong their life as well I've read.
I have a set of worktunes with bluetooth for hearing protection. They're excellent. I love listening to music while working, and with a bluetooth connection, I wear them all day and listen to music that's on my phone. They don't get super loud, but that's by design; they're hearing protection after all. ;-)
This mask is great since it has the unlatching without removing feature. I use these filters when sanding or cutting wood, and these filters when spraying finishes.
I learned about PPE from the perspective of a woodworker, which has some overlap with detailing in terms of PPE when it comes to chemicals. Woodworkers commonly wear half mask respirators (I use this model from 3M) and then swap in filters for whatever they're doing at the moment. I wear that respirator for many hours at a time and it's very comfortable to wear and use. Just make sure to get one that fits your face shape and size, and to keep facial hair to a minimum.
As for filters, I use P100 filters for getting rid of particulate matter, in our case fine wood dust, which might be less relevant for detailing since particulates from abrasion typically get trapped in water or polish. They have some degree of organic vapor relief but it's not good enough if you're spraying paint or working with strong chemicals. For those, I use a dedicated organic vapor cartridge like this one.
There may be some better dedicated filter cartridges to use since 3M has a pretty wide product range, but that respirator's definitely a good one from my experience.
GTA III
When I was 7 or 8 about (I can't really remember), I would go over to my friends house and he would be playing GTA III. At the time, my parents wouldn't let me play video games at all so it was a big treat to just get to watch him play. He was a bit of a game hog but the times he let me play it was awesome. My favorite part was just driving around.

ah, nice to meet you. here's hoping we never have to take a job that requires respirators.
those in particular were thrown in when i picked up my oxyfuel rig at the local welding supply shop. you can find them damn near anywhere that carries welding supplies, though. or just order from amazon, because amazon has everything. shade five is the most common since that's typically what you'll want for cutting applications, though i've seen lenses up to shade ten before - for carbon arc or plasma cutting, i guess?
i have mixed feelings about the things from a practical perspective, and in my experience i've found that they're very situational. generally speaking, i only use them for working in the field when i don't have a better option. in this instance, i was crawling around inside the engine compartment of a crane to disassemble the cowling and drum cover; very hot, cramped, and you've a metric shitload of hot metal flying all over the place. the fact that these goggles have no cracks for errant slag to discover and damn sure aren't going to be slipping off after three hours of sweating my way around crane guts meant that i could focus on what i needed to be doing without too much worry. but then you look at a shop setting and it's an entirely different story; given the amount of pedestrian traffic you have to be aware of and the relatively stable environment, the lack of peripheral vision and even a marginal amount of face protection are pretty solid nails in the coffin for me. they're clunky and restrictive enough that i'd rather throw on a tinted shield real quick and be done with the business.
on the other hand, the cool factor is hard to argue against.

Well, let's start from the top and work our way down
"Tactical" shemagh
Dune sclera lenses
3M 6200 half mask
Torch goggles
3 yards of fabric for the cloak
Tunic that I got from a ren faire years ago
550 cord
Avatar knife plus a coat of white paint
Thai fisherman pants
And the base layer, an open face Zentai suit
Plus my old desert combat boots. I also had a nose tube that I made with a bread bag clip, electrical tape, and 550 cord, which is obviously not shown here and could definitely be made much better with a proper septum clip.
Edit: And a handful of random washers as water rings.
How about an ice vest?

something like this. does what it says on the tin, but they are usually only good for about 2 hours, then it's just another layer that holds heat
That's a good idea.
Something like this might be good.
And a CamelBak to stay hydrated. :D
...Because seriously. With what they spend on their kit, $180 USD is a drop in the bucket.
I'll have to read the SCA heavy combat rules again sometime and see. Back when I used to go watch these events I had no idea those vests even existed.

I clip the LED to the back of my helmet. I have a triple eight helmet that has two tiny holes in the back of the helmet.
The LED I bought above is super bright. I can vouch for it. It has 3 settings - constant light, flashing twice a second, and flashing once time a second.
The sidewalks and roads are well lit around my area so I don't need a light to see where I'm going.
I agree with others that the best lighting for nighttime is LED wheels. There's no way someone wouldn't be able to notice you're roller skating on with LED wheels.
Pyramex Safety Goggles. Excellent fog resistance, impact rated, so cheap you can throw them away if they get a little scratch.
I wonder why nobody knows about these (probably because vtac took em and slapped their name on it)
Pyramex V2G
Pyramex I-Force
Pyramex Highlander
I own these, highlanders, and I-forces. None of them fog, ever. If I had a million dollars for every time these fogged on me, I'd still be broke as fuck.
Don't waste your money on ESS's and Revisions. The prices on these bad boys are unbeatable.
I personally like the N100's. I hate dust boogers, and the N100 is the only one that will block out mold, which I am very sensitive to. If you are getting good lumber that has no lumber mold on it the N95 should be fine however. You probably don't need the P as you will just be dealing with particulates. However, I have the half face respirator with these pink P100 3M filters. The fit is a lot better than a disposable, and the replacement filters are like 12 bucks for a 2 pack, not too bad as they will last a decent while.
If your company doesn't care too much about obscure rules and is willing to look the other way on you not being certified and cleared for respiratory protection then a 3M half mask is your best bet. P100 dust/ash filtration plus organic vapor using activated carbon to scrub chemicals out of the air or just for odor relief. Use it all the time for changing a relative's cats' litter boxes and I do not smell a thing with either filter.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007JZ1N00/ plus https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007STCT00 (less expensive, wears out and odor breaks through faster than the big filter, but very lightweight) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AEFCKKY (more expensive, lasts a very very long time, heavier)
If your site is super anal about OSHA rules when it comes to masks then you'll have to stick to disposable masks and not reusable rubber masks with filter cartridges. 3M makes ash/dust protection ones with a thin activated carbon layer for odor relief.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0052EA7NY
I use these, which go with this, so you can have hot pink AND talk like Bane. And, like, avoid cancer or silicosis or some shit.
3m 6503ql this is the mask only
dust filters
You can get different filters for different applications. Like for finishes you can swap out the filter so you don't breathe in the fumes and whatnot. They are easy to take on and off.
I got these ones because the internet told me to, and they are/were cheap.
wow that is cheap. it costs 79 euros in germany.

I already posted this in viveforsale. Hopefully this minor cross post is allowed.
The mod is made from a miller headgear (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00826AM7A/ref=cm_sw_su_dp) and a 3d printed part: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1696706
I thought it would flip up like a welder's headgear. It does not and I don't use it. Looking for a good home and will consider a wide rage of trades. I'm in Toronto.
The 3d print is visually a bit crude where it connects to the headset as you can see in the photos. The connection is solid and works perfectly. PM me
Are you using this one? I found that if you move the middle strap so it sits further back on your head it tends to sit better. Also, did you cut the front strap off?
The headgear alone is $22. Did you 3D print that as well?
This is what I purchased: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00826AM7A
I cut off the front portion where the foam is.
Hi,
I wanted to share my creation, my original Vive head strap started to come apart so I sent it out to be warranty replaced, in the meantime I bought a welding mask headgear from amazon. Removed the front strap and 3d printed some left right bracket.
This unit allows for depressing a button on each side and removing the HMD by pulling it forward from the face, quick release essentially, leaving the head strap on your head while removing the HMD. also the knobs on the side can be loosened and the whole thing can flip up onto my forehead.
I have the STL files for 3d printing if anyone is interested I have posted them because I am continuing to make fine modifications.

Agreed on the 3M dust mask - I use http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008MCUULW/ref=biss_dp_t_asn
with the P100 filters. It made an incredible difference. I can sand all day, be covered head to toe in dust, but feel fine.
It's not sexy, but if you want proper protection and comfort, go for a respirator. For smoke protection, you really want a P100 filter.

Check out the SMSL SA-50 (50 Watts per channel). It pushes 50W to each channel so it should have plenty of volume for speakers on your desk and be able to fill a small room as well. It is just above your price range. If you must stay in your price range, SMSL also has a 20W version. Also check out the Muse M50 (50WPC).
I've been looking for something similar for three weeks, asking about it on reddit and other places.
It seems the most popular brands mentioned on this subreddit aren't easily available in the UK, and it's easy to think that £100 will get you a good set of speakers (in PC terms, £100 would let you pick among the best keyboards or mice), but for speakers it seems that 95% of the options under £100 are bad.
Speakers are either active (power supply built into them) or passive (needs a separate amp). Cheap / normal PC speakers are active, so I'm assuming you don't already have an amp.
In the UK the most highly recommended speakers under £100 are Whafedale Diamonds.
Best for under £100:
The best for under £200:
Also needed:
The £24 amp isn't great, but should do fine for sitting in front of a computer.
You don't normally need banana plugs or anything fancy, unless you plan on swapping speakers regularly. If you use the £53 amp, check the plug that comes with it, some aren't fused / safe for UK.
Hope this helps, and if anyone has any improvements, please reply, I'll probably be reposting this reply to any other similar UK questions.
Ive never in my life heard anyone refer to Yamaha HS5's as not clear. Theyre a very forward sounding speaker on the bright side of neutral.
Presonus are decent to good for the price. Mackie MR series and Adam T5V's are my picks for powered monitors. CR series Mackies are junk and not even worth considering.
Now, on to your actual question. $200 Euros is tight for anything much better. The main benefit of going passives + amp is ease of upgrade. There is no upgrade path for powered speakers.
I would look at something from Q Acoustics QA3010's, 3010's, etc or the Klipsch R14M's if you like clear, bright sound with a good soundstage. Plus these will play loud with ease.
For an amp you could go with a cheap SMSL SA-50 for now.
Easy:
SMSL SA 50 (£56) + Wharfedale Diamond 9.0 (£40!) + Speaker cable (£6) + 3.5mm to RCA cable (£8.5) = £110.5
PS: Those speakers usually sell for more than twice the sum. That is a great deal (probably clearing out sale).
I prefer passive speakers, especially for my PC, no worry about hum/brumm from amp when nothing plays...
but you would need some amp, like this smsl sa-50 for 50£
Yeah I'm pretty sure $300 for a new amp and speakers would get you better sound than using a $300 amp and the old speakers. These little amps are very good for the price if you are only going to be using it with your PC https://www.amazon.co.uk/SA-50-TDA7492-Stereo-Amplifier-Adapter/dp/B008Y7S198/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1501368949&sr=8-18&keywords=stereo+amplifier I suggested that amp because the Yamaha has many inputs and functionality that you may never use if you are only playing music from your computer. Regardless I'd suggest getting an amplifier and trying the old speakers first, they'd probably sound pretty good and you might be pleasantly surprised. Then when you upgrade you will be able to appreciate the difference! Otherwise you could also spend the €300 on some nice studio monitors which have built in amplifiers such as these: http://www.audiorumble.com/best-studio-monitors/under-300/
This one is actually quite popular for people who want a mini amp.
Also it sounds good, which is really one thing you should look out for.
I guess the price in pound will be 65 pounds or something. Maybe it's cheaper in the UK.
Edit: 50 GBP
(I like the title change, thanks for taking my feedback!)
My review: I ordered three last time this was posted, received two very fast, the other was a preorder for the upcoming 3M replacement cups.
I definitely enjoy them. Like others have said, the glasses placement is kind of odd at first if you don't wear the ear pro the way Noisefighters recommend, but once you do, it makes a nice seal without glasses uncomfortably getting in the way.
While I personally prefer these with these over the Sightlines with the HL earpro (maybe my mind will be changed when the 3m ones come out!), as they create a seal on glasses very nicely even without the relief cuts, the Sightlines are still much cheaper and feels like the exact same comfortable gel material. The Sightlines are definitely worth the money, and light years ahead of the stock cups.
Yeah and way more comfy too
3M Peltor Camelback Gel Sealing Rings HY80, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DHVXKVA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_-4K1BbYHT84EJ
Just got my Peltor Sport Tactical 300 in today from Amazon. I also ordered the "Noisefighters" ear pads with glasses relief cuts and the 3M Camelback Gel Earmuff Cushions to see which ones I liked. I am going to stick with the 3M cushions because the Noisefighters need to ride too low on your ears to utilize the glasses relief cuts, preventing me from being able to get a good cheek weld on a long gun.

I read a lot of internet comments saying to peel the ear pads from their plastic backing. I found a great YouTube video (he speaks slowly, best to play this video at 1.75x speed) showing how to swap the stock pads for the aftermarket 3M pads without peeling any adhesive. It is worth noting that the Noisefighters didn't come with plastic backers, if using those you will have to peel your stock pads from their plastic backing to install them. I basically used the same technique in this video to install the 3M pads, but instead of using the razor knife to pop the plastic shells out, I inserted my finger into the hole of the OEM ear pad (where your ear would be during use) and pulled it from the ear muff shell. I hope this is useful to others.
Used this one 2 years for everything involving grinding, sanding, painting and absolutely love it https://www.amazon.com/Rugged-Comfort-Facepiece-Reusable-Respirator/dp/B00IF7RBS4/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=3m+mask&qid=1566030406&s=gateway&sr=8-8
Dust Containment, Dust Collection, Dust Filtration.
First, go to any big box store (I think even walmart may have it) and get a roll of sheet plastic. Try to get at least 6mil thickness. Attach this to the bottoms of the joists and subfloor. Be sure to go up in between the joists to seal that off too. Staples work really well, especially if you reinforce the edge of the plastic with a piece of duct tape on both sides. Wherever your door is going to be, overlap to pieces by about 12-18" to create a usable door flap.
Second, (if you don't already have one) get some sort of dust collection. A simple shop vac will do, though I highly recommend that you get a large one with a 2 1/2" hose as well as some sort of dust separator or you will be buying vacuum bags and filters like crazy.
Finally, get the Wen 3410 for $125. It has plenty of air movement and at full speed will cycle the air in a 20x20 room something like 7 times per hour I think. It's also quiet. The unit is identical to the Rikon and a couple other units at a much cheaper price.
The first two are the most important, but the last will greatly reduce the amount of dust that stays in the air, and more importantly, your lungs. A good respirator would also be a good investment as well. For less than $20, it's a good investment. I like the 3M 650x Quick Latch Respirator. I use one of these along with the P100 filters. If you have to go cheap on the last one, get a $20 box fan and a 20x20 furnace filter. That works decently too.
edit: I too work in my basement. I did the above and do not have problems with dust anywhere in the house, even right outside of my shop.

I have this as well, and it works great. The IPA smells stronger than the resins, but dissipates faster with ventilation. The resins are more toxic and linger in the room quite a while.
I use a very similar one but with a quick release. Might be nice for you if you get short of breath.

Also as a PSA, if you don't already have one, get a kevlar glove so you don't cut your fingertips off (I would have cut myself a couple times on this project if I didn't have one, sliced through the nitrile gloves).
There's these. You'd need the 11" model. Not sure if it would work though. Pipe cutters get a bit finicky if they're not rolling straight and a baseball is not a smooth surface. Idk, kinda expensive for a maybe.
Cut resistant gloves like these might be a better investment.

I've found this to be a lot more helpful, even if it's a little bulky. A full P100 mask is a big step up from an N99 Vogmask for me. It's also more comfortable to me. I just wish there was one that doesn't make me look like a bad Bane cosplay.

Buy this.

And use a pair of nice in ear headphones.
Budget and works great.
Just buy these or something similar and you'll be fine.
I pull on a pair of these at work when people get too chatty and they soon get the message.
These or similar help me at home and at work. No music, just considerably quieter and no echoes of every little noise.

Are you at an alleviated risk of home invasion? Bad area, owe money to someone, high risk job, etc? If not, don't ask for a loaner. You've been fine for X years, you'll be fine for another year...probably.
>acquire safety equipment, a safe, etc.... and eventually get to buying a gun.
How much extra stuff are you planning on getting before getting the gun?
Are you legally required to store the weapon in a safe or are you getting one due to wife/kids?
"safety equipment" are glasses and hearing protection. Glasses are <$10 off Amazon or a few bucks at any hardware store, hearing protection can also be a few bucks at any hardware store or $12 for decent over ear off Amazon. All in your "safety equipment" should be less than $20. You can upgrade later.
The safe is a harder question, if you are legally required to have one then I don't know what the cost might be. If you're worried about the weapon being stolen, well then you'll need to drop a few hundred on a real safe. If you just need to keep it out of the hands of kids/make the wife feel better about it being locked up then an cheapish Stack-On safe will work This one normally goes on sale for $75-90 fairly often. If someone WANTS to get into it, they will. But it will keep dumb children and unhappy wives out.
If you just want one for general safety, fuck it. Get a $10 trigger guard.
What kind of gun are you wanting? If you just want SOMETHING for HD, then a $100 Hi-Point will do the job. You want a rifle to learn on, $125-150 for a Ruger 10/22 fits the bill perfectly. You don't need a $1,100 1911 for HD, you don't need a $1,500 AR to learn how to shoot a rifle. Just because something is cheap doesn't mean it won't fit your current needs.
Sure you will.
/But yeah, it's gettin' crazy for them things in pricing overall, seems!
If you're willing to throw down a few bucks, you can buy a five-pack of ISO-certified eclipse shades from Lunt (certified by the Americal Astronomical Society as well) on Amazon. It says out of stock right now but it's supposed to come back in stock tomorrow (17th) so with Prime you could still get it before Monday.
$25 for 5 They might be a little pricy, however if you get cheapy glasses they may not be rated to do their job. This site talks about good brands and provides a link to find good ones on amazon.
Edit: Yep, seems to be over priced (huge packs of many many) or out of stock. Lame.
These are due in stock Wednesday, prime shipping should get them to you before the weekend, if all else fails.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NB09NHK/sr=8-3/qid=1502727684/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=&qid=1502727684&sr=8-3
These are one of the ones on NASA's "verified actually safe" list, also. Paying $7 each isn't the best feeling, when they were like $2 each a few months back, but that's what we get for waiting! ((I just had to pay $5 each for mine, ordered last week because I was lazy and then forgot))
Would you use these glasses? I bought them here.
I have a question in to the manufacturer. Do these look damaged to you? I don't see any light through them at night, even staring into a lamp, and only the sun during the day, but the wrinkles on the left side look weird.
Please get ISO rated safety glasses. A list can be found here. You can also use #14 welding tint glasses.

I ended up getting mine from one of these vendors on Amazon. It was 5 for $10.95. Looks like the price jumped to $34.99 because of the craze.
This one is stocked in the US. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NB09NHK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I think boiled linseed oil would be a good choice. Any finish will wear out over time but with BLO you can simply wipe a fresh coat onto the handle when it wears out. You could also shellac which can also be re-applied when it wares. Shellac won't offer as much protection from sweat though.
I have the 3M 6502 which I like. It's fairly inexpensive and seems to work well. Get some of the pink particulate filters for general woodworking and some vapour filters for finishing.
Look for hardwood dealers in your local area and see what they have. Some places will stock a huge array of exotics and others will stock next to none. If you only need a small amount you could try online hardwood retailers. I've also found eBay to be okay for smallish pieces of exotic or highly figured wood. Go to the Crafts>woodcrafts>wood/materials category and look there. Sometimes you can find good deals.

Here is a really good respirator
www.amazon.com/dp/B00IF7RBS4/ref=sspa_mw_detail_0?psc=1
This is what I use. The filters are sold separately.
I'd recommend something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00IF7RBS4/ref=psdcmw_2257619011_t1_B007JZ1N00
Dust from ordinary clay and several other materials contains some free silica that is too fine and heavy to be expelled from the lungs. Over time this can cause fatal silicosis if breathed often enough.
3M 6502QL Rugged Comfort Quick Latch Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator.
I could never get into using the disposable dust masks, so I was honestly surprised how much I liked this one.
As far as fogging up glasses, I haven't had any issues (granted only wearing safety glasses), but it is designed so the air you exhale goes downward specifically to reduce fogging issues.
And I keep my beard shorter, so I can't speak to how well it works with a larger beard.
I've used the 3m pancake masks under my viking. You'll have to adjust it so that the hood sits all the way forward, but it will work.
I'd suggest this mask:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00IF7RBS4/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526828209&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=3m+rugged+comfort+quick+latch+half+facepiece+reusable+respirator&psc=1
It has a lever on the front that allows you to lower it without having to take off your helmet.

Also available at your local Restaurant Supply store usually! I'm not allowed to use our mandolin without one! LMFAO
Edited to add... I have no experience with the glove I linked to and there are lots of others on Amazon, I imagine they are all pretty comparable.
Seconded! I love this mandolin so much! Also, if you’re worried about cutting yourself and find the plastic gripper hard to use, I highly recommend these gloves to go with it.
After my boyfriend cut part of his finger off I bought him some gloves. Butchers use them a lot and you can find them on Amazon. Usually made of kevlar or chain mesh.
Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/NoCry-Cut-Resistant-Gloves-Performance/dp/B00IVM1TKO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449652438&sr=8-1&keywords=Butcher+gloves
Thanks for the reply!! I read this yesterday and it honestly helped me to get motivated. I bought these gloves from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/NoCry-Cut-Resistant-Gloves-Performance/dp/B00IVM1TKO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504298736&sr=8-1&keywords=cut+free+glove
and they worked amazing! I wore them today and the bites didn't hurt:)
I'm on mobile so not sure if it'll work:

I love projects like this. Your furnishings feel much more your own, and they take on a sense of permanence you can't get with big box furnishings.
A heat gun and putty knives work very well to remove the stickers. Use a low setting, don't keep the heat focused on one area for too long and keep an eye out for browning, singeing, smoking, and fire. You've got lots of space to work with so skip around to allow the wood to cool. You'll potentially be removing whatever finish is on the couch if you are too heavy handed and or use too much heat. If you plan on refinishing use the heat gun and putty knife to remove the finish.
You can try just scraping with a razor blade to remove most of the stickers and then saturating the area with full strength degreaser, such as D-Limonene.covering the area with a paper towel to keep the degreaser in place.
A couple of razor tools to consider: 4" wide short handled for large areas with thick layers of stickers. Smaller razor scrapers with metal and plastic blades. Plastic detail scrapers might be useful too.
Instead of using Goo Gone I like pure D-Limonene solution. It's a potent degreaser extracted from citrus peels and contains no petroleum distillates, unlike Goo Gone. It also comes in food safe solution - though to be safe for digestion it really does need to be quite dilute.
Use the putty knife and rags or gauze to clean the adhesive from the wood. Large Woven Gauze Sponges are more scratchy and will give more traction with absorption. Rolled Stretch Gauze Bandages have the same great absorbing properties but they're softer and great for detail work. You'll get to know what you prefer - I'm partial to gauze sponges. They're cheap and I just toss them into the compost bin as long as they aren't too bummed up with adhesive top.
To remove the degreaser dish soap and rubbing alcohol work well. I like Dr Bronner's castile soap diluted for dishwashing. Wipe down with 90% Isopropyl Alcohol. You should be good to move on to your next step, probably sanding and smoothing, patching any holes or gouges to prep for staining and finishing or painting.
I linked a whole bunch of products to give you an idea of what will work for certain applications. There are definitely other ways to achieve the same goals, this is just how I tackle this task. Please don't order everything listed here at once, see what works from you. I link Amazon because they have everything but locally owned small businesses are an invaluable resource and great when you get stuck in a project.
Don't forget your PPE'S!
Dust Mask - I like this one as you can vacuum the filters out to extend the life and reduce waste. It has a smaller profile too - my husband actually doesn't complain about wearing it, just puts it on.

I would recommend building the fume hoods out of mild steel. If youre welding in a garage with no fume extraction thats no good. You can stick weld outside, or even with a fan blowing at you.
http://www.weldreality.com/Safety%20stainless%20issues.htm
>PROCESS. SMAW (stick) stainless electrodes that provide chrome will have much of the chrome in the "hexavelent" form generated by the reaction of the chrome with the flux constituents in the electrode coating.
>Evaluations by the California Department of Health Services and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) indicate that the risk for workers is extremely high.
Im not trying to be a naysayer here, you just need to make sure before welding stainless you have fume extraction and a respirator wouldnt hurt.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013SIIBFQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_a62dAb75FY09T
This is the respirator i use at work for galvanized. Mines Miller but this ones the exact same. Im not really a huge a fan cause IMO its uncomfortable, but it does the job.
I can't really do that because all the guys would know it was me right away since they all are fine with the working conditions except me.
Also we're inspected like 6+ times a year by various organizations. The air quality is never brought into question. It's all just our tools/doors/vehicles/etc. So I feel like it's "just something you accept" with a job like this. Aside from getting a mask, I'm not 100% sure there even is anything you could do about this kind of shrapnel-based air in circulation.
I'll mark that mask recommendation though and I appreciate the link. In my other research I came across the M2 RZ MASK and the M2.5 RZ MASK which seems to be the same thing as the first just minus a strap. I feel like that mask is a good balance between the full-on double tank masks like this or this but is one step above (visually) the one you linked. Yours could be way better performance-wise than the M2 I linked, though. And it's cheaper so I have to take all of this into consideration since I work 7 days a week all day, so I'd probably burn through these things(filters) fast.
Yes, especially with activated carbon as yours supposedly has, the elements only last so long and the carbon will react/ expend with use.
The activated carbon helps reduce odors. Another note, yours doesn't say how effective it is, just that its PM 2.5. Real respirators will have an efficiency such as N95, N99, or N100 that says how much PM2.5 they block.
Consider an upgrade with replaceable cartridges such as https://www.amazon.com/3M-MASK-RESPIRATOR-ASSEMBLY-MEDIUM/dp/B0082LIZYM
If you want activated carbon filters as an option.
Look at the miller electric/GVS elipse style if you dont like the round cartridges hanging out there https://www.amazon.com/GVS-SPR457-Elipse-Respirator-Medium/dp/B013SIIBFQ/
Also 3Ms cartridge guide will give you some general info and an idea of what different cartridges do

Thanks!
I use an elipse p100 for general dirty work. Unfortunately this won't do anything for vapor/fumes.
Pyramex I-Force Goggles. Thermal Lens, will never fog. $15.
https://www.amazon.com/Pyramex-I-Force-Sporty-Anti-Fog-Goggle/dp/B01GOR9756
My friend uses these with them and they fit great. I’ve tried these with the onetigris as well and it’s very comfortable. https://www.amazon.com/Pyramex-I-Force-Sporty-Anti-Fog-Goggles/dp/B01GOR9756
Imo, I would recommend these: https://www.amazon.com/Pyramex-I-Force-Sporty-Anti-Fog-Goggle/dp/B01GOR9756
They are low profile, around $15, and never fog up for me (and I live in south Florida)
yep, I know. I also know dye's stuff isn't cheap (which is why I went vforce profilers when I started paintball).

dual pane "antifog" pyramex is $17 on amazon.com, and would let you try at least the amber tint at minimal cost; lets you try it before you commit to it on your i4s. https://www.amazon.com/Pyramex-I-Force-Sporty-Anti-Fog-Goggle/dp/B01GOR9756

Otherwise you'd have to head into a store and check out the lenses yourself. Ask to see if you can look through them in a darker area of the store/look into darker shadows and see how well it works for you. I'd suggest trying them for a few minutes at least so you can see how well your eyes transition from dark/light situations and if you are comfortable with the tint.
something like this https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Reduction-Professional-Protection-Adjustable/dp/B01L1U9L5W/
Not real headphones, but just something to block out noise.
Hope it helps :) And even if it doesn't, it shows you're listening to him and trying to help find a solution
Fuck white noise, fuck fancy headphones. Buy some earplugs and ear-pro used for shooting. Put the earplugs in (correctly FFS) then put the ear-pro on and suddenly you're deaf, tada! Total $18.74
So I hadn't seen that video before and LOL, great visual.
Here's an idea.. in-ears!! You can get custom-fit IEMs for all day comfort and superior isolation for $300-$800 nowadays. Or some very nice and very comfortable universals for even less.
You could wear those underneath some basic comfortable ear-muffs like these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L1U9L5W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_IhSDDbB960SVB
I'm guessing you'd get about 25-30db reduction EACH.
I've generally found that an isolating IEM + a pair of noise reduction safety earmuffs is untouchable from an isolation standpoint. I suspect a similar set up with a KZ earphone will be superior to ANC.
If you just want to block sound, gun safety muffs are pretty good. Here's the pair I own https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L1U9L5W/
I hear this depending on the CRT.
https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Reduction-Protection-Adjustable-Professional/dp/B01L1U9L5W/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1506477552&sr=8-4&keywords=ear+muff
I recommend muffs since you can easily take them off to listen to your opponent when you need to hear stage bans.
I double up with foam and these over the ears:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L1U9L5W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I wasn't sure how much i'd be into this hobby, so I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on noise-cancelling electronic muffs. I sorted by highest customer rating on Amazon and they are awesome for the price. Come in a protective sleeve.
I love these as well - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RMFGGY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Got them for everything - motorcycle riding, shooting, needing peace and quiet. If you don't like hard foam plugs or they are uncomfortable, I highly recommend these.
I'm already nearly deaf in my right ear, I don't want to lose what I have left. People who ignore hearing protection warnings really need to reconsider going to a race at all.
I mean come on, ear plugs are like 35 cents. There's no excuse for not using them, unless you dropped them somewhere or something.
And here's some ear muffs. Nice, cheap, effective. Not really any reason to not try to protect your hearing.
Ordered these on Amazon.. they arrived today. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NB09NHK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_jDJKzbPDK8A1X. Might be able to get rush shipping if they aren't out. I also checked three Lowe's hardware and walmart. Sold out
These are the cheapest I could find online. $40 for a 5-pack. Buy fast, though, because I'm sure the price will skyrocket once supply runs out. But if you can't get your hands on a pair, there are plenty of other methods like pinhole cameras, or using welding goggles as the other poster mentioned.
https://www.amazon.com/Premium-Certified-Lunt-Solar-Eclipse/dp/B01NB09NHK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1502953845&sr=8-2&keywords=eclipse+glasses
I bought two orders of these. They're authentic, arrived perfect and not broken like anyone elses were. And Prime ftw!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NB09NHK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I just got that same email, Amazon said we will get a refund tho so that is good. I went ahead and bought these.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NB09NHK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
These are on the NASA website of approved glasses.
https://eclipse.aas.org/resources/solar-filters
Edit: They are on back order but Amazon says they will have more on the 16th.
I ordered mine yesterday, from the place with the highest ratings but are out until the 15th. I assume it's the same one you're referring to here?
Yesterday I got a message from amazon along the lines of "good news, you will receive your glasses faster than expected" Amazon also went ahead and expedited the order to two day shipping for me without having to pay for it.
All modern steel contains manganese to some degree, which has been linked to parkinson's disease. In addition, the ceramic wool refractory material used in propane forges releases small particles during use, some of which are known carcinogens.
Your best bet is to get a full facemask with P95 or greater filters. Actually, I'm about to order either this one, or these two in conjunction:

http://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DPG82-11C-Concealer-Anti-Fog-Safety/dp/B000RKQ1NI/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_img_y

Get a full face respirator. I am so glad I bought one years ago. I've used it many times. It's the best dust mask and eye protection you'll ever own. And a good one with the right kind of filters will even keep foul smells out.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0002STR86/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?qid=1452636278&sr=8-9&pi=AC_SX118_SY170_QL70&keywords=respirator

In addition to fans in windows, I use a gas mask. This one specifically http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002STR86?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage
It doesn't save the apartment, but it saves my lungs and eyes

What a wonderful idea for a contest.
I've had a rough time recently, some real ups and downs... but in order to keep this from sounding like a sob story I'll spare the details. If you're curious, I don't mind answering questions in PM's.
What I really need is my car fixed, but that's just something I'll have to take care of in order of priority. I don't have any friends here (in my town), but I am going over to meet a guy tonight that's going to help me build my forge. By all indications this could be my first local friend, and I'm excited for a couple reasons, one being having a friend, and two being FIRE!! FIREE!!! FI... uh... Blacksmithing!
Speaking of fire though, Blacksmithing carries a certain risk. Not only are you dealing with a coal (or gas) fire that can get upwards of (or higher than) 2000 degrees Fahrenheit (1093 C for those of you using that system.) but you are heating and handling that metal. I built a small soup-can gas forge and hammered a little bit on a railroad spike, but wasn't using proper tongs or PPE. I hit it, my pliers lost their grip and the hot spike flew up and hit me in the face just below my right eye. I got lucky it didn't hit my eye. Even though it only made momentary contact, it still burned and hurt for a week.
So, right now the items on my wishlist that would actively benefit my continued well-being would be the safety equipment on it. There's a heavy apron, a pair of welding gloves and a pair of decent safety goggles that would help protect me from flying super-heated metal.
Agreed. They are great for grilling, too. We have these, https://smile.amazon.com/US-Forge-400-Welding-Leather/dp/B000MRQAJG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1482199502&sr=8-3&keywords=welding+gloves
These are $8 with prime shipping. I'm sure shipping from the UK would put it well over $8.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MRQAJG/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
I just picked up one of these too and it works great. I like the fact that the exhaust vent is down-firing so it doesn't fog up my safety glasses. The only problem I had was that I found it nearly impossible to figure out which set of filters/attachments I needed from the various pages I read online. I eventually, after two rounds of purchasing, ended up with:
Having read all the instructions it seems like there is a way to skip #2 and #3 and just connect up the big pink P100 filters to the respirator, maybe with another adaptor in between, but I'm happy with what I ended up with.
Although I have not used it yet, I bought a 3m respirator and a bunch of the 3M 6001PB1-1 Organic Vapor Replacement Cartridge filters after reading online. https://www.amazon.com/3M-6001PB1-1-Organic-Replacement-Cartridge/dp/B000XBKLLE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1497092613&sr=8-2&keywords=3m+filter+cartridge
I use a similar respirator as you do.
These filters are on when sanding and when using shellac
I add this when using other chemicals
Ear protection. very comfortable to wear all the time. Still able to hear conversations and music.
Eye protection. I got tired of scratching the plastic lenses on the cheapies, and also wanted something to keep the dust out
A lot of people like to think that using non-toxic acrylics means you don't have to worry about air safety. Inhaling atomized paint down to your lungs is just as deadly as any other kind of paint. Get yourself a good respirator whether you get a booth or not. Just make sure the filter cartridges you get are for organic vapors, like these.
Looking into getting into airbrushing and getting the necessary equipment. I'm carefully looking through respirator masks since I want to work with enamel/lacquers and don't want lung cancer and saw in the tools wiki this mask.
Would replacing the default cartridge and using this organic vapor cartridge, organic vapor cartridge be what I would have to do? Thanks!

You could try an ice vest

if you are somewhere dry you could try an evaporative cooling vest.
If you're an HVAC installer, you may want to invest into something like
this.
Similar product, but cheaper.
FWIW, not sure if the difference is worth the extra $.
Ooh...i think i know one of those...
Searched. Maybe?
I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/HONEYWELL-S8500-Bionic-Shield-Suspension/dp/B001VXXUWK/
This is also popular: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Protection-82783-00000-Polycarbonate-Faceshield/dp/B007JZ1QQQ/
Lowe's/Home Depot will have similar items for sale in-store.
Ended up going for one of these bad boys. Figured for twenty bucks, it was worth the insurance against a sexy scar and/or horrible mangling.
I totally agree! I only just started turning this month and within the first week my nose started bleeding like crazy from all the sawdust. I just bought the GVS Elipse from Amazon for $20 and I am soooo thankful I did. With that and the Honeywell face shield for another $20, I can turn all day without any issues. It feels like I'm breathing in clean cool air. It's awesome. VERY MUCH recommended.
Anyone recommend one of these? There's also the 8510 that's a few dollars more but I don't know what the difference is.
You can get an ANSI/ ISEA 107-2010 high-vis vest on amazon for $7. Just slips over whatever you're wearing and you can shove it in your panniers/pockets when you're not riding.

You'll find most if you look for "reflective green tape". Most types have a sort of diamond pattern on the tape. I'm guessing this would do: http://www.amazon.com/TapeCase-3277-Green-Reflective-Tape/dp/B007Y7HWMQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1453386782&sr=8-2&keywords=reflective+green+tape
This one will most likely work too (better at closerange, worse at distance): http://www.amazon.com/TapeCase-3437-Green-Reflective-Tape/dp/B007Y7IRSY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1453386782&sr=8-3&keywords=reflective+green+tape
Don't get the tape that appears to be very lightgreen. Darker green is better. In my limited testing with tapes, without a diamond pattern works better for closerange, but this isn't conclusive and with some adjustment might even work well at large distances. I've improved a lot in the algorithms as well; if you like to test get without diamond pattern as secondary.
Alternatively, get a green light filter, put it over the flash and use plain white/silver reflective material (I've got similar materials in small localshops. The filter you get at officesupplies, the grey/white/silver reflective material from a $5 safety vest or just as tape):
Sample of safety vest; it's not tape but works: http://www.amazon.com/Neiko-Visibility-Yellow-Zipper-Reflective/dp/B0030AA3YK/ref=sr_1_3?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1453387694&sr=1-3-spons&keywords=safety+vest&psc=1

Don't spend more than a few bucks on the material unless you verified that it works well. It's really all cheap stuff, but people tend to overprice and sell it bulk. A good way to test if the stuff works in store, is to load the apk on your phone and see if it tracks the marker in the store. If you're not shy of compiling, compile the apk with SHOW_CAMERA set to false in Config.java for a good debugging view of reflectivity.
Edit: Also, if you're testing in store, check for return angles. This means if you view at an angle of 45 degrees, see if that works well and so on.
Would you say that the Pyramex Capstones are good? I'd like to be able to fit my glasses underneath as well...

You could buy some of the goggles Novritch sells. I believe they are OEM pyramex v2g goggles. £35 shipped
You can find x800 and x1000's for sub 50 pounds here
Pyramex V2G have dual pane lenses that help with fogging more than single-pane lenses in my experience.
You'll have to buy them from Amazon.com, but even with shipping and import taxes they were only ~20 bucks total shipped to The Netherlands. I imagine shipping to Germany will be similar: https://www.amazon.com/Pyramex-Safety-Goggles-Adjustable-Anti-Fog/dp/B004RDJ9IU/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1527108823&sr=8-3-fkmr0&keywords=pyramex+vga
I use these https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004RDJ9IU?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title and like them. They are reasonably priced and thermal lenses so a little better in the fight against fog. I'm actually in the process of a fan project for them that I have been meaning to post up here. I like the mesh masks with the soft sides. I think mine is oneTigers or something like that. The quality is fine.
A respirator is awesome. I highly recommend the 3M 7500 series (e.g. 7502). The vent on the 7500 faces downwards, so if you're wearing a face shield (as I do when running a bench or angle grinder), it won't fog the shield. Amazon Link
The P100 "Pancake" filter are a good match. Low profile and organic vapor relief (i.e. good working with small amounts of solvents). Another Link
Finally, for ear protection, I like earplugs with a string attached. Easy to take in and out and low profile if you're also wearing a faceshield or welding helmet, or whatever. example
Second /u/Grimsterr. A respirator is an absolute godsend in the shop.
I use this kind, with these filters.
They're amazing. The respirator itself is super comfortable. Its silicone gasket is very soft and snugs up perfectly against your face, blocking all air ingress and egress around the edges of the mask. (As an eyeglass wearer, this is a huge deal for me. The disposable ones inevitably send your hot breath straight up around the edges, right into your eyes and instantly fog up your glasses.) The filters block everything. Well, everything you're going to be exposed to in a woodshop. All the dust, and all the smelly finishing-product vapors. It's pretty astonishing what you can't smell while wearing one of those things.
And they're pretty inexpensive, too. If you go through a lot of those disposable masks, you'll break even pretty quickly on a proper respirator.
I just got this today. It won't fog your hood or safety glasses!!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/3M-7500-7502-Series-Professional-Half-Facepiece-Respirator-Medium-/371688005845?hash=item568a54e0d5:g:uToAAOSwz2lXCwSL
Pair that with this and now you're golden.

Fits tight in my pipeliner hood.
I starting using this mask with these filters a few weeks ago and it's made a world of difference for me. I just hate having to wear it for hours after I've made dust because it's all floating around.
I love my dust mask. I use these filters and they have held up really well.
I don't have a router so do you just use a straight bit and a plunge router?
are you using a hardhat? or just the welding helmet? Miller Headgear is the best i've seen thus far. It's comfy and tightens up nicely, just don't over tighten it too often.

Custom Head mount for vive by nw15062
Hi,
I wanted to share my creation, my original Vive head strap started to come apart so I sent it out to be warranty replaced, in the meantime I bought a welding mask headgear from amazon.

Some people swear the HF chisels are good for starting, I don't agree with that sentiment because neither set includes a bowl gouge which is the essential tool in, you guessed it, bowls! Most people at least give bowl turning a try, even if that's not their primary interest. Definitely read up on the safety issues at play between spindle roughing gouges and bowl gouges. If you want to turn bowls, you will need either a carbide tipped tool, a very good scraper, or a bowl gouge. The wiki details the tradeoffs about carbide vs traditional; I favor traditional because that's how I learned.
That mask is too flimsy to really offer much protection. I suggest this model which is also conveniently spacious enough to wear with this respirator using these filters under it. Breathing protection is as important as other forms of safety, especially when sanding!
Please be safety cautious and remember that the mast will protect you from small particles, chips, and moderate fragments during turning, but it will offer you zero protection against something like a bowl that comes flying off the lathe. Stand out of the line of fire!
So, just to clarify - if I were to purchase one of these: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008MCUULW/ref=biss_dp_t_asn, I would get this cartridge (http://www.amazon.com/3M-Filter-Adapter-2000-Series/dp/B003MOMTEG), and insert these filters inside (http://www.amazon.com/3M-R-2091-Particulate-Filter-4-Pack/dp/B0009XYN7O)?
Also - how long does a pair of filters last? How often do you replace them?
Do you wear the mask at all times in the shop? I won't have dust collection for quite some time, but the ~monthly leafblower to the garage workspace technique, along with frequent shop-vaccum use will probably be in my future.
Can you tell me about VOC and respirators? If I was applying a liner that is 2.6 VOC, what does that even mean? Is something like this enough to be safe?
I am out of my element.
It's very comfortable and the P3 filters work surprisingly well even against odors. It's a bit of a problem with my glasses and it's impossible to wear eye protection that goes OVER your glasses (as this thing covers most of the nose).
The one linked is very expensive compared to other offers on amazon. This one still needs the filters so buy those too.
I’ve got one of these and it’s fine: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008MCUULW/
i hear ya. props to you for caring.
chemicals are an issue. i try to avoid them as much as possible. consistent daily cleaning, elbow grease, a good scrubby or steel wool, and good old fashioned soap can do most of the work and keep those ovens shiny and new looking. if you think you definitely need the chemicals daily, buy a couple respirators and filters, (they arent expensive, like 20 bucks) as well as goggles and gloves. make it policy to wear them anytime they use harsh chemicals and enforce that policy. sleep soundly.
respirator-https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008MCUULW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
that being said, there are a lot of respiratory land mines in the kitchen- smoke, grease in the air, flour and other particulates can all cause problems as well as chemicals.
That's a good one. I have the same one, this SKU. If I'm trying to keep stuff out of my eyes, I use these goggles. I like that the full foam surround helps filter out particulates. It works, but having separate goggles makes it somewhat inconvenient, so I'm wanting to try out the full face version.
Amazon Link - SMSL SA-50
Has a few colour options
I've had mine for a year now - replaced an old amp sitting under my desk. Sound quality is good, and it's tiny - the size of your hand.
It has RCA for stereo input, and 4 binding posts for stereo output.
This pic from another reddit thread shows just how small it is compared to a monitor (its the little box on the right).
It's loud enough for a small house party (lent it to my sister for a birthday party, worked fine) and stays ice cool when in use (thanks to a class D amplifier circuit) 10/10 would recommend.
I bought 2 of these for £23 each at the time (on offer) :
https://www.conrad-electronic.co.uk/ce/en/product/378284/Car-subwoofer-passive-130-mm-80-W-Sinuslive-Bass-Pump-III-8-
As an alternative, these seem to get good reviews on Amazon for much less £££'s :
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Unknown-Bodyshaker/dp/B002LQAHPE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1538384751&sr=8-2&keywords=bass+shaker

Along with this SMSL 2x50W amp :

These connectors :

And 2m of audio cable (only available inn 1m atm) :

I have the 2 shakers mounted underneath my Ikea chair on the left & right sides.
They are just screwed into the wood base with some rubber washers on there too for dampening.
I've read that it's better with the shakers mounted on some metal brackets / bars to allow them to vibrate more, but I haven't tried this yet.

Currently use a SoundBlaster Z for the main pc sound, and my motherboards' onboard audio to drive the amp/shakers.

Works well as far as I can tell - don't have anything to compare it against - and I never need to have the amp above 50% volume, with the onboard audio at 90% volume in windows.

For software I use SimVibe, but both Simhub & SimShaker Wheels also work well too. I'd say SimhHub is easier to tweak to taste due to not needing to mess around with .wav files in Audacity.

Plus if you want rumble from other games / movies output through the shakers for some added immersion, then use Voicemeter Banana and enable the eq on the secondary output channel assigned to the onboard audio.
Then set the low pass filter @75-90Hz.

There's a big thread on RaceDepartment with plenty of more info on setups much more advanced than mine :

Monitor Audio MR1s, they're quite a bit better than the Miccas too. There's also a larger 6.5" model (MR2) for £40 more. They're not powered thus not "plug and play" but you just need a small amp and a bit of copper wire. They're really pretty good.
If you must have something powered you can get these but don't expect the same sound quality.
Hi again, I have been doing some research, but I haven't reached a conclusion so I decided to wait and buy after christmas.
I have a new contender :
http://www.amazon.es/Magnat-Monitor-Supreme-100-reflector/dp/B001GNC0JY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1450343392&sr=8-5&keywords=magnat
I have found a lot of nice reviews about them in spanish audio forums. They are from germany and available in amazon spain. The problem is than I haven't been able to find measurements about them. Where do you usually search measurements?
These are pasive so I suppose I would need an amp. I have been seeing cheap amps, what amp do you recommend?
I have 2 amps in mind :
Thanks for the links. At the moment those are a bit out of my budget. But you have given me something to think about to try and decide what I want to set up.
For now I've just ordered an SMSL M3 because the interference I'm getting through the headphones is driving me crazy. I might at some point pair that with something like the SMSL SA-50 to power my speakers, but I need to think about that, do I want to have something to run a sub-woofer?

Happy to ditch the Z3's just looking for a budget start option for now, unfortunately doesn't look like that sub is available in the UK.

Thanks again.
Someone recommended me this one

But it's a little too pricey. I did say my budget was £50 but i'd just rather not spend that if I can get similar for less
I use these cartridges 3M Multi Gas/Vapor Cartridge/Filter 60926, P100 Respiratory Protection
And I don’t smell the spray at all until I take the mask off.
Those cartridges go with this mask: This one
Lmfao, even a N95 respirator will only protect your lungs.
What you need is a fucking gas mask with 60926 filter to properly protect your eyes and skin
Is there any reason the slightly cheaper 60926 cartridge would be less sufficient than the 60928 one?
Don't want to be cheap but this will be a long term hobby so don't wanna pay more than needed. ($17 vs $30)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009POHLRC
Not all eye protection is the same. I use the 3M Lexa Splash GoggleGear. Those were recommended by 3M for simultaneous use with a respirator. Regular glasses don't have any protection around the eyes, so when wearing a respirator, the dust is funneled right into my eyes under the lenses. Larger cheap $4 splash goggles were too large to work with the respirator.
Also, that respirator I linked to is just the reusable part. He'll need filters. For only dust, a pair of cheap P100 filters will work. As soon as he starts painting, using chemical finishes, anything with a vapor, he'll need something more versatile that absorbs the chemicals as well as dust.
2097 is pretty great. Cheap and compact.
The 60926 however is their "everything" filter. Organic and non-organic vapors, oils, odors, chlorine... I recently had to use one in a room flooded with toxic ozone. Couldn't smell a thing, never got lightheaded. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B009POHLRC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you're doing research you may end up using isocyanates and if so will want (if not a forced air system) one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007JZ1M10/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
With one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009POHLRC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Filters are good for 8 hours of exposure. I'm not familiar with curative concerns for sugar motors but you can look up the MSDS to see the PPE requirements.
I love these - https://smile.amazon.com/3M-Earmuff-Protectors-Hearing-Protection/dp/B00009LI4K/ref=sr_1_4?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1510080043&sr=1-4&keywords=3m+ear+protection
custom fitted with these -
https://smile.amazon.com/3M-Peltor-Camelback-Sealing-HY80/dp/B00DHVXKVA/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1510080212&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=3m+ear+protection+gel+pads
The Gel pads last for years and years where as the regular ones last only a few months. Plus the gel pads are insanely more comfortable and form fitting giving you better sound protections. The pads are a bit spendy but mine are going on 5 years with no sign of slowing down. I made a custom soft nylon elastic cover to slip over the gels as the gels can get a bit sweaty.
Peltor Sport Tactical 100 + 3M Peltor Camelback Gel Rings
Edit* Forgot to mention the gel rings don't "technically fit" the tactical 100's. You can make them fit by slowly separating the original foam padding from the plastic ring, then separating the gel rings from their plastic ring. Once you have both off you can just switch them and the adhesive will hold them in. Haven't had any issues with mine since I made the switch.
This, plus these: 3M Peltor Camelback Gel Sealing Rings HY80, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DHVXKVA/
...makes an amazing set of electronic ear pro for $110 total. They rival the MSA Sordin Pro at half the price.
The gel cups are INCREDIBLY hard to install by yourself. With a second set of hands, it's a five minute job per cup. The comfort of gel and better seal on your glasses is worth the $50 extra.
These things are worth their weight in freaking GOLD: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Peltor-Camelback-Sealing-HY80/dp/B00DHVXKVA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1480027689&sr=8-6&keywords=3m+muffs
Based on the link you provided, that "biologic pollution mask" is actually a toy. Don't use it for anything, even as a costume prop.
What you really should get, is one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/3M-7162-Full-Facepiece-Spray-Respirator/dp/B0002STR86/ref=sr_1_4?s=diy&ie=UTF8&qid=1450254972&sr=1-4&keywords=reuseable+respirator+masks
I really like this one.
I wear the 6001 organic vapor as well as the P100 for dust. Although you could just get a combo filter that would do dust and paint/varnish in one for just a bit more money. http://www.amazon.com/3M-Cartridge-Filter-Respiratory-Protection/dp/B009POHLRC/
I have experienced many collisions with cars as a cyclist. Sometimes I have been nice and "let them off with a warning" so to speak. I have always ended up wishing I could hold those drivers accountable for my losses later, when the adrenaline wore off and I was feeling less charitable. You say your back wheel is rolling fine, but unless it's exactly as straight as it was before, you have experienced a loss. Your wheels, and your knees, only have so many hits in them. My advice if you experience a collision with a car:
Don't make any promises or definitive statements while under the effects of adrenaline. Qualify anything you say with vague statements about doctors or lawyars. Lawyers? Yawlerws? My spellcheck's busted. Damn noscript probably.
Definitely make them stop exactly where they are, put the car in park, and turn off the engine. If they don't do this when you tell them to, cut their tires to prevent hit-and-run with your handy carry knife. If you even let them pull off the road, they might just drive away and leave you holding the bill for your wheels, legs, frame, spine, helmet, and skull. You're allowed to use reasonable force to detain them while you gather their information or wait for police to verify their insurance status.
Once you have their driver's license, vehicle registration, and insurance card in your hand, let them drive off the road. Car people behind them are probably honking mad by now. How dare you inconvenience a car person! Car people are very important.
If they have those documents and everything looks legit, continue on your errand and call their insurance company at a time convenient for you. The driver will probably use this as a lesson to drive safer i.e. actually come to a stop where required, so they won't immediately need those documents. You can retain them for now.
If they are missing any of those documents, call the police (non-emergency) and get the driver checked for warrants and their insurance verified by a cop.
> But I wasn't prepared with the exact right words as I was all adrenaline and no brains. What should I have said?
It helps to have a script. I'm so used to yelling “you too” it's just instinct now. Your line after you drop your bike right in front of their car and walk up to the driver's window is “Put the car in park, please. Turn off the ignition. Put the car in park, please. Give me your license, turn off the ignition right now, please. Give me your license, your registration, and your insurance card.” If you have to repeat that more than a couple of times, start cutting rubber. In the comic book version, you'd already have your giant wrench you carry everywhere in your other hand and you'd be breaking glass too. In real life, I don't know how you'll feel telling a jury you were forced to dent every body panel and break every window and light on car, in order to prevent hit and run, because you felt threatened. We can dream, anyway. Cutting their tires actually makes them stop though, so that's clear cut self defense.
Ask them if they're still living at the address listed on the license, like a cop does. It freaks them out. Be wearing rear view aviators and a construction vest and be chewing gum for maximum effect.
And as always, if you feel threatened, do whatever you have to do to defend yourself. The roads should be a safe space.
