You pick up something like this

That is not the same grip. That looks like a third party grip.
The left one looks like this third party grip

Man the way you create a room and make parties look and sound really convoluted. I'm not sure what the hell they're thinking. In the Wii U you can just like, party up in game. Why would you want someone to open up the app and then invite people there for friends?

And you can only use the app's features with the screen on AND using the app. I understand that once the app goes out of focus, it should be in the background. At least give us a way to dim the app.

And it turns out the Hori squid headset (I intended to use Hori's website but getting to its Japan products page is near-unaccessible) is actually the optimal way of playing Splatoon 2. Wow.

While I doubt the Switch will have any issues with selling off like hotcakes this app is discouraging people from using their online service in a major way. I'd rather have what they got with the Wii U.

Edit: One major problem here for me. Hong Kong is a launch country for the Switch. But I can't download the app on Google Play because it's disabled for Hong Kong. So is Nintendo looking for people from HK to only play local? What the hell?

And given Nintendo's stance for not installing things "correctly" (sideloading the app, installing the apk) which can possibly lead to a ban, this feels more of a risk than anything.

or instead of approximating, you can hold 24 cards for half the price. With out fear of them slipping out or bouncing around inside.

Good compilation. The only downside is that these don't include any cables so if you don't have the right USB-C charger laying around you're in for another $20 which puts most of these on par with the Nyko dock

You can also use Xbox One and PS4 controllers on the Switch as well. I personally use an Xbox One Elite controller for BotW

I bought this adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B073ZFPJLQ?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_yo_pop_mb_pd_t2

It works well, but no vibration. You can get two for the price of one controller.

u/cpRisZero · 14 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This is a case by PDP. I have found 3 in this style so far with different designs. Each can hold 14 game carts!

The one above (as part of the starter kit, also sold separately):

The Mario pattern design:

And my personal favourite, the BOTW design:

Im trying to find somewhere that I can order the Zelda version in the UK, hit me up if anyone finds somewhere!

EDIT: ARGOS now are selling the Zelda and Mario versions of this case

Zelda (for some reason different colour interior, maybe just lighting?): https://www.argos.co.uk/product/6772844

Mario: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/6784131

EDIT: ARGOS now seem to have removed these cases from stock, leaving my preorder in limbo. The EU Gamestop site has two of them now though

u/xseedusa · 13 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Cartridge cases like this hold so many games it's not really that much of a problem. You would get prime savings and awesome cases as well.

u/MutatedSpleen · 12 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This thread is filled with a ton of good game recommendations, so I'll skip that. One thing I would DEFINITELY recommend getting, however...

An additional set of Joy-Con controllers

Joy-Cons are the standard controller option for the Switch, and the main console comes with one pair. A "pair" of Joy-Cons is actually two small controllers that can be docked onto the sides of the console, docked onto a controller accessory (which will also be included with your Switch), or held separately - one in each hand. Technically, one "set" of Joy-Cons is enough to play most games without much limit, but a second set would make everything a LOT more comfortable for your kids, and would even open up the possibility of playing 4-player games with them and your husband.

There are other controller options, but I wouldn't worry about them at first. Joy-Cons should be more than sufficient for the younglings.

u/TheLawlessMan · 12 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This is one of the best small hard cases that is not covered in tacky crap and available to Americans. Brits and Australians are getting all the good medium sized cases so I went with that ಥ_ಥ.

This is the one I really want.

u/inferno10 · 12 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you can wait around a month, Nyko's dock releases on Oct 31

Rather than wait or go for a third party dongle, I moved the components from the official dock into a more compact housing.

Amazon also has this on preorder. I ordered from there instead of Lamestop. I'd rather give my business to a better company.

u/gadgetmg · 11 pointsr/RocketLeague

This is another option as well. It's a little cheaper. I bought it to use my Xbox One Elite controller with the Switch.

u/Phisherman81 · 11 pointsr/nintendo

I'm thinking of going with this one.

HORI Tough Pouch (Black) for Nintendo Switch Officially Licensed by Nintendo

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MR63I6F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_3-NIybJANZ63V

As a grown up who'll be taking this on my commuter rail every day, plain black tough case all the way. The BotW case is really cool though.

u/13thstruggle · 11 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

My grip with the joy-con gripes.

Jokes aside, you can buy the official grips direct from Nintendo's website. These are the same ones in the switch box and have the logo on them:
https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/us/po/browse/productDetailColorSizePicker.jsp?categoryNav=true&navAction=jump&navCount=0&atg.multisite.remap=false&productId=prod840605&categoryId=cat831381

Otherwise, there are of course the 3rd party licensed ones that look almost like the original grip; they're opaque but don't have the logo, use plastic rails, and the grip is slightly different:

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Comfort-Grip-Black/dp/B01MS7YUA7/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1496598616&sr=8-3&keywords=switch%2Bgrip&th=1

u/Fireblend · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you have money to spare, there's nothing classier than a Waterfield CitySlicker.

I have one of these cheap HORI ones, it's great :P

u/Galen640 · 10 pointsr/Switch

First of all: Screen Protector. Once it's on you never notice it, doesn't hurt to get that extra safety!

I've bought 10 games so far, and I'd say get all of these because I have enjoyed them. BOTW, Splatoon 2, Sonic Mania, Rayman Legends, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (assuming you like DBZ,) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokken Tournament DX, Street Fighter 2 Ultra, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and Yooka Laylee.

If I had to pick 3 for you to get to start out then I would pick Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I think that's enough variety to keep you busy for awhile.

A carrying is always a good thing, I'd recommend This case because it's the one I use and does its job.

Accessory wise I have joycon grips which are AMAZING when playing with one joycon.

Also, the grip it comes with is trash. Get the Power A Grip it feels A LOT better in your hands.

As for SD Cards, it depends. I have a 32GB SD card. I mainly buy physical games, The extra space is for screenshots and videos, and download only games, like Sonic Mania, Yooka Laylee, etc. If you're going for digital only then get a 256GB. Sure you won't use a ton of space now, but you might a few years down the line. Also, do NOT get the official Nintendo ones. They are a RIP-OFF! Here are some nice alternatives that will get the job done for A LOT cheaper: 32 GB 64 GB 128 GB and finally 256 GB

If you have any other questions feel free to ask OP, and other (potential) switch owners!

Quick edit: sorry that some links won't be put with the text, no idea what the issue is

u/gamerfather · 10 pointsr/nintendo

Are you going to lay it flat on a table in front of you? There's no stand to keep it upright. You'll be hunched over the screen just so you can see.

I mean, you do you, but if ergonomics are the issue, you're much better off buying an asymmetrical grip.

u/tomster2300 · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I am a paraplegic and get the exact same pain with handhelds. Grips have been a lifesaver! I tried skull & co.'s kickstarter grip and a cheap rubber one off Amazon before sticking with Satisfye's Switch grip. I have big hands and it was the only one large enough to comfortably play with. Edit: They JUST launched all new products but I have their OG Switch grip.

I have other branded grips for my N3DS XL and Vita, but forget what they are (I think they're Japanese brands I found on Amazon), and they're comfortable and work great.

I suggest buying a handful off Amazon to try out and then keep the one that works. They're all made slightly differently so you wont really know until you have them in your "grip" :-) .

Good luck!

Edit: I found the exact grips in my Amazon purchase history (all from Amazon and I live in the states).

Also you can buy a $15 Hori joycon that has a D-pad so that benefit is out.

u/vagrantwade · 9 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I think the one in the OP looks way better. But taste is subjective.

I think Hori's is better than the official one;

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MR63I6F/ref=sr_1_31?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1484442548&sr=1-31&keywords=nintendo+switch

u/DanTheMan827 · 9 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

For me, I plan on getting:

  • Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Obviously!)
  • PDP Nintendo Switch Premium Console Case - Zelda Edition
  • Extra charger and cable (waiting on the exact details for what's needed power-wise)
  • Glass screen protector

After Launch:(I already have these on pre-order through Amazon, 20% off!)

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Redout
  • Splatoon 2
  • Super Mario Odyssey

I'm also a backer for Yooka-Laylee, so I'll get that whenever they release a Switch version.

I was contemplating going all-digital but then I found out about the Amazon Prime discount. On my games, I saved $55.07 by just buying the physical copy.

You really gotta wonder how Amazon makes any money on Prime subscriptions... I order items all the time that are below the normal free shipping amount...
u/ZenigameX · 9 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Was disappointed in PowerA's Hybrid Cover, then I just found this.

Able to charge in tabletop mode, and seems to be able to play in handheld mode without the flap dangling around. Finally a hybrid cover done right?

u/ElectricTrombone · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Same with me. I tried several different grips and not many of them helped except for this one. It actually works pretty great. It changes the angle of the right side so your thumb lays across the joystick more comfortably.

u/ItsKipz · 8 pointsr/smashbros

PSA: Mayflash makes a clone adapter that works on Wii U, PC, and Switch just as perfectly as the official one and can be found easily on Amazon for under $20. https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE

EDIT SECONDARY PSA: 8BitDo also makes a wireless 1-port adapter for switch and PC that allows you to connect a single controller to your Switch wirelessly, in tabletop, handheld, or docked mode. https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Adapter-Nintendo-GameCube-Classic-Controllers/dp/B07JLF9PVG

u/FReeDuMB_or_DEATH · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

With this you can use a PlayStation 4/3 or Xbox 360/one cord wired. I just ordered one from Amazon and got it the other day it works pretty good.

u/bites · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I bought one of these and it works surprisingly well.

I think there are also a couple other companies that make a similar product.

u/treehumper83 · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Get the Hori D-Pad left joy-con knock off. One of these. It doesn't have a battery and doesn't really draw any, so it'll work well for your handheld-only type deal. I got mine at the local GameStop like an idiot, though... for $15 it's worth it.

Edit: Pokemon or LoZ either are $20.

u/Sloth-Zilla · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

As a very petite female, I envy your pocket carrying abilities. I carry mine in a Jibanyan pouch that hooks onto one of my belt loops. I get asked about Yokai Watch by a lot of people curious about the game and always tell them how much fun it is, Nintendo or Level 5 should pay me for my PR work 😂 I can't wait for the Switch, though! My 3DS is also carried in a HORI case and I'm getting one for the Switch, too: https://www.amazon.com/Tough-Pouch-Nintendo-Switch-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01MR63I6F

u/hoysmallfrry · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

well, when I put my switch in my case the right way - sticks up - (the official nintendo one https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Carrying-Case-Screen-Protector/dp/B01N226BBW/) there is zero stress on the joy con sticks. I imagine when you put it in this one the flap will be pressing down on them when you transport it in your bag

u/CoryBoehm · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Some recommended Switch accessories:

  • A tempered glass screen protector such as ORLZY, Spigen or AMFilm. All are excellent only reason AMFilm gets more recommendations as it was first to market.

  • A protective case like Hori Tough Pouch

  • Hori LAN Adapter if you play online lots as the Switch has very weak WiFi service. Also other lan adapters may work but only the Hori one is officially supported.

  • Hori Play Stand if you frequently play in table top mode or need to charge while in table top mode.

  • Pro Controller

  • The [Google Pixel USB C-C charger] (https://store.google.com/product/usb_type_c_18w_power_adapter) as it is easy to find locally, even on sale, and more compact than the Nintendo one but it won't power the dock.

  • Nintendo A-C cable (comes with the Pro Controller)

  • Your choice of headphones

  • A larger bag such as Butterfox Carry All case to hold your EDC (every day carry).

  • PowerA Cartridge Cases if you need extra game storage on the go (comes in several designs).

  • RAVPower 26800 PD a battery pack with both Type C in and out such as this one. Type C is means quicker charging and Type C out to safely power the Switch while using it.

  • PowerA Hybrid Cover might also be of interest to some people. I have not used it though as it is not my style. There are a few different colour/designs.
u/CaptainClough · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Definitely a Screen Protector

A Travelling Case would be nice.

I also added Dr Scholls Moleskin to the front of my dock to reduce the risk of scratching the screen protector. (Two small strips on the parts inside the dock that are raised.)

A Memory Card also helps for the digital only games.

What color Switch did you get? I got the grey switch then bought a pair of Red Joycons and another pair of Blue Joycons. So in total I have a grey, red, and blue L Joycon and a grey, red, and blue R Joycon.

If you got the grey switch and then buy the [two color Joycon packs] (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Neon-Neon-Blue/dp/B01N6QJ58Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493753597&sr=8-2&keywords=blue+joycons) then you won't be able to get one of each color for L/R without over paying. This is because the [two color Joycon packs] (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Neon-Neon-Blue/dp/B01N6QJ58Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493753597&sr=8-2&keywords=blue+joycons) are always Red L and Blue R.

If you bought a neon switch, then buy the [two color Joycon pack] (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Neon-Neon-Blue/dp/B01N6QJ58Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493753597&sr=8-2&keywords=blue+joycons) and a pair of Grey Joycons for all combinations.

Also, don't buy Joycons on Amazon, they are stupid expensive right now.

I don't have a pro controller yet, but people seem to love it.

Games:

Zelda = Must Buy

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe = Must Buy

1-2 Switch = Great for parties/friends

Snipperclips = Great for people who don't play games often (girlfriends/parents/kids). Secret here is to not explain how to play/what to do and let them have fun and try to figure out the puzzles on their own. Act like a support character and you'll have a blast watching them.

Binding of Isaac = I love this game, but put countless hours on the PC version. Mature themes

Super Bomberman R = Classic mode with easy CPUs is fun for roommates. I haven't played through the adventure mode yet.

Wonderboy = Cute/Fun side scroller.

Has Been Heroes = I don't have this yet, apparently very difficult.

Other notes:

I started collecting amiibos after getting a switch (Be very careful, it's easy to get addicted and drop a ton of money here).

I got a Joycon charging dock since the only way to charge extra pairs of Joycons without the Joycon charging dockis to rotate them in and out of the switch while it charges/docked.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

PS I love the Switch so much. It's definitely my favorite console ever.

u/IndomitableBanana · 7 pointsr/smashbros

Purists will hate this suggestion (and the controller is far from perfect) but the PowerA Wireless GameCube Controller is the best third party controller I have used. Better than the Hori Battlepad and WAY better than the PDP Fight Pad Pro.

NB: You’re never going to get the same quality or feel of a first party controller going this route and you will definitely be more prone to dropped inputs, etc. But especially if you’re looking for a casual option that delivers a decent wireless experience with the GameCube form factor (plus home and share buttons) IMO, this is the best option.

u/AlligatorTaffy · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The Sheikah case from the Special Edition, but i am really REALLY interested in the one from Surge.

Edit: Guess we are needing links https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Carry-All-Case/dp/B01N6RMR30/

u/ethan919 · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Looks similar to the Surge case that is popular here.
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Carry-All-Case/dp/B01N6RMR30

I may switch to this case, actually. Thanks, OP.

u/i_noah_guy98 · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You cannot save copies of physical games to the Nintendo Switch. You can either go digital or get a carrying case that has game storage in it, like this one.

u/rundiablo · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

As someone else pointed out, there are contacts at the inside bottom of the rails for charging.

I actually picked up the battery grip for my main joycons, it has two AA batteries in each joycon and brings battery life from 20 hours up to about 200 hours and when they die I just have to toss some new AA batteries in instead of waiting for them to charge back up. It also adds much needed bulk and rubber grips which I find far more comfortable than the naked joycons.

u/kaeyay · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I suggest the Joy Con Battery Pack. You don't even need to put batteries if you don't want to, the extra girth from the grips alone is amazing.

u/sm639 · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Previous user posted his/her opinions on cases not that long ago. Snagged this one on Amazon:

u/the-iek · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I think it is sold out everywhere. In the meantime I found this similar adapter from Nyko, but it will be released in October: https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499327770&sr=8-1&keywords=743840872252

u/chewingstraws · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I wouldn't do it. The last time I backed a kickstarter in China promising something relatively simple I still got burned.

Apparently Nyko will be releasing a travel dock for about $50

u/BR3VITY · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

There are several out there now and they all seem to work fine. Amazon has many listed. I own this one and it works as advertised. The Nyko one comes with an HDMI and Power Cable so its a good deal. Put the link to the Nyko one below the one I have. https://www.amazon.com/FastSnail-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch-Converter/dp/B074MYLP9C/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1505917683&sr=8-4&keywords=Switch+HDMI+Adapter

Personally, for me, I believe that the best case is the Sheikah Slate that comes with BotW SE. EB and Best Buy both said that they will have it, so be on the look out for them, cuz amazon is out.

The same case, with different designs, is made by PDP. You can get them via these links: 1, 2, 3, 4.

This one is quite close to the Sheikah Slate as well, but it doesn't ship to where I am, so I'm not sure it would ship to you.

PDP also has this amazing looking soft canvas cases if you're interested: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

You could also go with Hori hard case, which is ugly af, but looks extremely sturdy. But then the actual case from Nintendo (it's not available yet, just wait for it I guess?) is quite close to the Hori one as well, I guess.

I'm throwing all those links at you, because, I have NO idea who Biogenik are and a quick Google doesn't result in anything positive about them.

As for screen protector, for me generally, any film protector would make the screen look worse. They are also a lot more likely to get scratches than the screen alone. I'd recommend a tempered glass screen protector if you get one at all. Here are some, one from Orzly, and one from CaseBase. Orzly seems like the better choice since you get 2, and their other tempered glass protectors are very highly rated.

A Switch Pro controller is $70, Xbox controllers are normally $60 and require batteries or a $25 Play n Charge kit. The battery life on PS4 controllers is not great in my experience and the cord is like 3 feet long.

Nintendo controllers have great battery life, an NFC reader for amiibo, and motion controls. The $80 price tag for joy cons seems high, but it's essentially 2 separate controllers with a lot of stuff in them.

The $30 grip is not the same as what comes in the console, it also charges the controllers. The one that comes with the console is like $7

I complained about Switch accessory pricing when I first saw it too, but it's really not that bad.

Does there happen to be any pictures of the interior of the Official Switch Carrying Case floating around?

u/rodfather · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I've been going overboard with accessories. Here's what I picked up so far:

Glass screen protector - Just in case.

128GB microSD card - I rarely buy physical games

Pro Controller - I love it. So comfortable.

PowerA Hybrid Case - I basically use this as a stand for my Switch when I'm on the go.

JDeal portable dock - It works. Make sure to follow the instructions. Works with my Nexus5x 5v 3A portable charger.

[Retractable HDMI cable] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019J96PSI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Hestia case - The Switch with the PowerA Hybrid Case, portable dock, portable USB-C charger, and retractable HDMI cable all fit in this.

USB 3.0 LAN Adapter - Faster speeds when on the official dock.

Gooseneck tablet holder - Ultimate comfort. Play while in bed.

Magic NS Wireless Adapter - I had originally bought this so I could use my PS4 controller. This was before I picked up the Pro Controller. It works. There was a recent firmware update that gives gyro support for PS4 controllers and it works well with Splatoon 2.

On the way:

Mumba case - For better comfort/protection while playing in handheld mode.

the PowerA Gamecube imitation pro controllers have octagonal notches. They come in wired and wireless, and based on the research I've done they seem really highly regarded.

u/Psiah · 5 pointsr/nintendo

That's really all it would need, though. Effectively just make it wireless and throw on a ZL button. Maybe adjust the C-stick a bit. I think that's safely within modern furnishes.

That's why I pre-ordered four of these, but I wouldn't mind a version with rechargeable batteries... and I'm not entirely sure if it has any sort of rumble or not.

I have two Hori Game Cases that store 24 games, or so. I had all my games in one of them, then I started buying games enough to fill the second one. By the time I filled the second one, I said screw it, and started putting all my games back in their original game cases. It's too much money invested to have them all in these storage cases that are easily stealable. I don't travel heavy with my Switch, but if I do, I just put a few games in one of my Hori Game Cases for the trip itself and I'm good to go. But travelling with / storing ALL my physical games? Not my thing anymore. I have a lot of RPGs I'd like to keep in good condition, not get stolen, as well. :)

Not sure but this is PDP's Switch "case" (also on BotW version) and, by the looks of it, it's just a semi rigid pouch.

I'm probably getting this one once I can see it in person or a nice review; it looks like it will have some kind of foam (as shoulder buttons would tilt the switch and yet it seems to be in a horizontal position) and I think it's made by the same company as a pretty similar looking NES mini case.

This is the screen protector that I got. Looks great, feels great, works great. And it’s a super cheap investment to keep that screen looking amazing. Well again, I'm not wound up about it, but literally every version of these games that has been re-released (even Wii/Wii U VC) has either Y and B inputs or button remapping, so it's a weird defense to make. Also I'm not sure why someone wouldn't use a pro controller if they have one, ESPECIALLY when I'm playing 2D games on the TV because the joycons have no d-pad to speak of. I even got this so I could have a real d-pad in handheld mode rather than those insane buttons. But again, that's me and I'm not saying everyone has to do it the same, just a bit weird that you're confused by using pro controllers (which I'm not sure even came up in this thread). My question would be why use a single joycon for a game with no analog controls? Why would I want to play NES games (or even modern 2D platformers) with a joycon control stick?

Again, nothing wrong with X and A but there are pretty obvious benefits to using dual joy cons or pro controller over a sideways joycon (which I personally view as the ultimate last resort for multiplayer games).

u/BillTNJ · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'm using the tough pouch by Hori, I really like it. Protects my switch well, I also throw in my wrist straps and a few games. Doesn't have any funky smell to it like a lot of the other 3rd party cases do. I picked mine up at Toys R Us, it's also available at Amazon.

Besides the Panda Global adapter, you could try one of the following:

8bitdo G Bros. Wireless Adapter. Lets you use the original GC controller, but it'll be wireless so there'll be a slight increase in input delay. Not sure if it's noticeable but I doubt it, should be like any other wireless controller.

Get a USB C to USB A adapter and plug the original GC adapter in it. A bit more of a mess than the Panda Global adapter but this works just fine. You'd have to get some kind of stand like this if you want to have the Switch standing up, since the USB C adapter is gonna prevent you from using the Switch kickstand.

I'm going with the Nintendo Switch Carry-All Case by Surge.

Here's why I like it:

  • It's got a hard, structured exterior so it won't get squished while in my bag.

  • It's got a microfiber interior.

  • It has elastic straps to keep my Switch from moving around inside the case.

  • It holds 8 games and has a mesh pocket for the Joy-Con straps.

  • It's only $12.99.

All that seemed pretty good to me so I'm going to give it a shot.
u/bigylittle · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
  • Screen Protector. I suggest a tempered glass screen protector
  • SD Card. Dpending on how committed you are to digital vs. physical, a 64gb or 128gb should hold you over. Wait for them to go on sale, they go on sale pretty often.
  • Carrying case. I recommend the ButterFox carrying cases, they come in different sizes so pick one that suits you.
  • A stand. By stand I mean something that will hold your Switch and provide access to the USB port for charging. Some recommend the Hori play stand, for me that's a bit too bulky and went with one meant for cellphones, works wonders.
  • Portable battery pack, look for ones with at least 2.1A output to sustain gameplay when charging.
  • Pro controller, it's essential on most games, literally night and day from the joy cons. I suggest getting the Xenoblade version because it has an updated D-Pad that the original has.
  • Another dock, theres a lot of controversy here. There are 3rd party options out there they have been noted as dangerous to your Switch and may brick it and render it useless. From my experience, I've had great success with the Nyko dock and the Best Buy Insignia dock, use these at your own risk. You could play it safe and buy another official Nintendo dock. it's not as cheap however.

Ignore the fact that it's a battery charger, these feel great to hold when playing with split Joy-Cons. Gives it that extra size making it easier to grip your hand over.

If you can try going to a GameStop or something, they likely have this on clearance for around $10 or less.

Here is an adapter. Your controller has to have a wired connection with this one and I think you have to map the Elite by first plugging it into a PC and using the Elite App. But, from what I've seen it should work well and could even potentially be used with a USB-C adapter to work in tabletop mode. I think MayFlash makes one that supports a wireless controller connection but I haven't looked into it as much.

Joy-cons are dropping in price recently and you can get them used if you want them even cheaper. And honestly... most people don't care about 1-2-Switch, and can live without Super Mario Party. I would definitely get a screen protector, I recommend the AmFilm Matte this protector reduces the glare and makes the system much better in a car or outside.

Also a carrying case. I went with this Surge case it's a good quality case that holds the system with the Joy-cons, 8 games and has a pouch for earbuds or a cable.

I also have a RavPower 26800 portable charger. This one is available for $64 and charges the system very well and is by far the highest capacity for the price.

I would definitely also get a microSD card you can get 64Gb for about $20 and 128 GB for $40. If you plan on going fully digital I would suggest a 200 or 256 gb card but they cost significantly more.

I have the RDS Deluxe case, and really like it! I work at a library and occasionally bring the entire system in for a program, and it comfortably holds the tablet with joycons attached, dock, pro controller, AC brick and HDMI cables... I can fit the joycon grip in one of the slightly curved slots in the top left and right (I usually tuck the AC brick in the other).

There's also enough space that I can bring along, without worry, a second set of joycons, all four joycon straps, and a Hori game case. I just tuck these things in and between the Switch itself and the dock. I face the Switch screen towards the front of the case, and while I do have a screen protector on it, nothing has ever gotten scratched -- with the case zipper shut, it holds everything snugly enough. I'm not sure where you live, but I was able to pick one up at Target in the US (Oregon), and it was nice not to have to wait on shipping.

That being said, the reviews that mention it having kind of a weird smell are totally true. I left it open and airing for a day or two before use and it doesn't bother me/I don't notice it anymore.

Hey guys!! This is awesome to hear my buddy is not the only person who would love to have something like this!!!

I'm somewhat new to the 3d printing and designing, but if your guys have this Hori case:

The design I made fits one of the 2 pieces of plastic that holds up to 12 game cards.

It's nice, when you don't want to risk loosing all your games when you want to take half of them on a quick road trip.

Also I was going to publish this design to my thingiverse so anyone with a 3d printer can print this out whenever :).

If anyone does want one, I would love to start producing these for people. It would be a dream to turn my designs and prints into a business at some point in time. Otherwise I'm just happy to hear that others like how it looks and would like one as well.

What is the current situation for Switch travel docks? The last I heard, the first commercially available travel dock will be available by Nyko starting October 31st.

Are there any other docks that are now/will be available that are worth checking out?

Idk if this helps your investigation, but when my switch bricked, it still worked but it didn’t connect to the dock (original or 3rd party) I was however able to charge it using my pro controller usb (or any usb c I’d assume) connected to my computer. I was not able to transfer my saves as I needed to be connected to a AC adapter but Nintendo was able to successfully transfer my saves to a refurbished unit.

When I connected the switch to a 1st party dock, it would charge for half a second and disconnect leaving a blinking green light on the dock until I removed power to it. There was no video signal at all to my tv but everything still worked in handheld mode

I bought three more volumes of Tokyo Ghoul, and bought the Female Corrin Amiibo. It wasn't in any of stores in my area so I had to order it on Amazon. Hilariously enough, the Female Corrin Amiibo is $94.94, but the Female Kamui Amiibo is only $38.00. I don't give a shit if the package is in Japanese, the amiibo itself is the same. Getting it in store for $15.00 would've been best, but I'm not about to complain given how annoying it is to pick these up. I'll pick up Male Corrin at one point or another, just not immediately (oh, and there's only $1.00 price difference between Male Corrin and Male Kamui, why I don't know).

I am also in the midst of downloading Civilization VI. The Digital Deluxe edition was on sale for 40% off, $62.99 altogether which is far better than $104.99. For comparison, the regular version is normally $79.99 and was 33% off for $53.59, and the five currently released DLC as a total price of $31.95. Yes it's true and you need a adapter. I use thisone to play with a xbox 360 controller and a logitech F710 and its work perfectly. Its plug and play. I know there is other adapter too but never try them.

If you're talking about this, then yeah I already saw it. However, I was hoping to do something wireless, as well as I'm kinda curious how to go about it myself as a project, I guess. Just looking to see if there were any resources to pour over.

u/Odiie · 3 pointsr/RocketLeague

amazon has some adapters available that plug straight in to the dock usb port. They also make a USB2.0 to USB-C dongle to plug in to the handheld unit but idk why you'd ever want to do that. The main advantages of an xbox controller compared to switch is that switch triggers are binary, where as xbox triggers are analog. This gives you more throttle control.

u/graciousintent · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I just got this I posted the link below it's only $17, and let's me use my Xbox one controller with my switch. It works perfectly and just saved me a lot of money than to buy another controller since I have three Xbox one controllers already. It works with PS4 controllers as well if you have one.

Thank you! I purchased the blue/red switch and then when the pink/green joy cons came out I bought those and then replaced the red one with the green one. I also took the two extra joy cons and bought these and got myself some cool clear purple ones for the nostalgia of the clear purple game boy I had when I was a kid. It also gives the joy con a d-pad so that's a big plus for platformers.

I use AirPods and have had a pretty good experience. I’m sure it would sound better if I used my Hyper X Clouds that I use for Xbox and PC gaming but then I can’t hear TV audio. You need a mixer for that.

u/ZombiePyroNinja · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

First, Third and Fourth- I take it you've really haven't had a Nintendo console for a long time.

Nintendo is trapped in another decade when it comes to online, and it really shows with the Online service and onboard NIC card. When it comes to the price of first party games; welcome to a nintendo console: Anything with a first party Nintendo character will rarely price drop but they're usually worth it with Nintendo being one of the few devs to sit as high as they do on metacritic for as long as they have.

> Yeah I know there are some good games for this thing, but the system experience outside of that is really sub par.

That's the whole point really. The video game console plays really good video games. Pick up Fire Emblem if you enjoy a tactics game/Persona's social system or Mario Odyssey if you enjoyed Sunshine on the gamecube days or Bayonetta 1&2 or Smash. Or start trying indie games, my Switch for a really long time was a glorified Binding of Isaac machine after Breath of the Wild until the library expanded as large as it did

As for your second point it's really your preference, I got large hands and the switch feels fine in portable mode. Used to have a Vita and it was a nightmare. If you hate the Joycon dpad so much then I recommend Hori Dpad Joycon (But to be clear it does not work wireless nor vibrate. Friend of mine loves the dpad on it though) for handheld play and a Pro controller for docked, the pro controller for me is on par for comfort with an Xbox one controller, never beena fan of Dualshocks.

u/Pwuz · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Like this?

I just find it nice to have the Netflix style catalog rather than a-la-carte. I bought a lot of NES games on my Wii & Wii U, but still only a fraction of those available.

u/MatNomis · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

There are no games that won’t work on a Switch Lite at all, only a couple that would require you to use joycons. Since the Switch Lite has built in controls and doesn’t come with a set of joycons, that means for these games, you’d need to have purchased or otherwise acquired a set of joycons, separately. Remember: the Switch is compatible with all Switch wireless controllers. It’s also compatible with all Switch USB controllers, if you get a sold-separately charging stand that has a USB port(s). The only controllers that won’t work (presumably ever) with the Lite are “attach-only” controllers that must be slid onto the Switch’s side rails to work (no wireless option). The only controllers I’m aware of that do that are third party ones like this and this (both by Hori).

Thus, you can add support for any game, if it’s ever critical. The only major thing you absolutely cannot do, is video out.

That out of the way, the games I’m aware of that require joycons and won’t work out of the box with the Lite, are:

  • Mario Party
  • 1-2 Switch
  • Fitness Boxing
  • Ring Fit Adventure

Another exception would be the Nintendo LABO kits. All the software would work, but these kits all involve custom cutouts that are sized to hold the Switch with its joycons off. Of course, it’s cardboard, so you could presumably figure out a workaround with enough tape and scissors.
u/BlackSajin · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

My Switch also has this crack. I noticed it about a week ago now, and I wanted to make a post on this subreddit, but I knew that I would receive a swarm of downvotes, and people telling me I dropped it, when I know that I did not. I keep my Switch in this case when it's not in the dock or in my hands. I have babied this thing, as I worked hard to get it.

I'm putting together an album of images on imgur here of people suffering from cracks in the same area, and other areas on the backplate of the Switch. I have asked some people for images that reported having the problem, but did not post an image. If you'd like me to add yours to the album, PM me. This might end up being useful to have in the future.

In regards to people claiming that this is not a manufacturing issue, and that this must be coming from physical damage, I think the imgur album speaks for itself. I highly doubt all of these people are lying and all dropped their consoles, and they are getting cracked in the exact same spot over and over again.

My main worry is that Nintendo screwed the pooch on this one, and in order to hit the price point they needed, they cheaped out on the materials for the outer casing of the console. I think that if we can get one of the gaming sites who got a review unit of the Switch to notice that theirs has a crack in it without having taken any physical trauma, we might have something to go on in regards to some people saying that Nintendo will not repair their unit.

u/jedimika · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'm getting the Hori case and the only tempered glass protectors I could find

The screen protector won't arrive at launch, so I'll just be extra careful for a while.

u/leenponyd42 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It's definitely function over aesthetics with the Pro Controller. They don't look like much, but they are extremely sturdy. If it really bothers you/your kids you can get canvas stickers made for the Pro Controller to decorate them. Just be aware that using the controller will probably cause the designs to fade where the hand holds the controller. Then you either slap a new one over it, or remove the old one and put a new one down. Probably going to be a sticky residue once brought up, however, so it's not likely something you can change you mind on after application.

The Pro controller doesn't fit the hand as well as a Dual Shock 4--Ps4 controller--but it's far more comfortable than using the JoyCons on their "comfort grip" apparatus.

It is a bit pricey, but I personally stay away from third party controllers because of generally poor experiences in the past. I find the money you save isn't really worth potential problems with an off brand controller.

u/Manokadobo · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

There's a third party that made plain plastic ones: https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Joy-Comfort-Grip-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01MS7YUA7?th=1

They're not branded, but they are cheaper. They're also pretty expensive for being pieces of plastic, which is why I just ended up buying a charging grip myself. Cheaper ones will probably come pouring out of China soon enough.

u/lifelongintent · 3 pointsr/GirlGamers

Another vote for the Switch here, primarily because of the exclusives. Nintendo makes a lot of kid-friendly games that you'll only see on Switch, like Mario, Yoshi, Kirby, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, etc.

Nintendo's online service:

  • Is $20/year
  • Gives you cloud saves for most games, so that if anything happens to the Switch, you can still access your save data.
  • Will let you play online for select titles, but requires you to download an app on your phone if you want to voice chat with others.
  • Gives you access to classic NES + SNES games. I imagine most would be challenging for a kid who didn't grow up playing them, but there's an option to "rewind" if you make a mistake or lose a life, and you can do this as many times as you need to. If she's interested in classic games at all, there are some real gems in there. Kirby's Adventure is a pretty easy one that still plays great, I highly recommend it.

As far as online goes, people can be really mean. This sub has endless examples of women who have been mocked, harrased, and even threatened. For that reason, I would be cautious about online play, or at least avoid chat.

That being said, some games have neat features that require online. For example, Animal Crossing (a game where you build your own town), allows you and your friends to visit each other's towns. As long as online play is limited to real-life friends and kid-friendly games, she should be okay. Nintendo is obsessed with family-friendliness and parental controls -- this page on their website is dedicated to parents and keeping kids safe in gaming, if you'd like to have a read.

To save some money, I would suggest getting the Switch and just one game, with an accesory or two. Or, you can keep the accessories in mind for future birthdays and holidays. Some ideas:

  • 1 year online subscription: again, this is useful for online, cloud saves, and access to classic titles, if you feel these things are right for her.

  • A micro SD card: The Switch only has 32 GB of storage space. If you buy digital games, that will get used up quickly. A 128 GB micro SD card costs about $25 CAD, and can be inserted into your Switch so that you can fit mores games on it.

  • A Joy Con Grip: if she likes playing with a controller, this is a great and affordable option for about $20 CAD. Alternatively, this guy makes great quality, officially licensed, wired controllers (and many other Switch accessories) at very affordable prices.

  • A case: so that if she ever plays it in handheld or wants to take it to a friend's house, she has somewhere safe to store it.

  • An Amiibo: These cute little figurines can connect to the Switch, allowing you to unlock things like outfits, power-ups, and other neat extras in the game. This explains how they work in more detail.

    I hope this helps! :)

u/Nymunariya · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

As I don't know where you are, I'll just show what my amazon has available. Maybe it's also available in your area?

this bag seems decent. Could probably hold two grips or two pro controllers. Definetly room for more joycons, as well as the switch, dock, and some cables. You can even move the dividers.

Otherwise, in the realm of compact just switch:

I originally bought a Bigben case that allows you to stick the screen below (without joycons) and tuck joy cons into a mesh bag on top. There's space for about 4 games, and the usb power brick. Hard plastic. Feels really sturdy. I love it. Except, not great if you to quickly play and quickly put it away. And it's fairly thick. I just want something I can put in my purse and be off.

Eventually I bought the special Zelda case from PDP. No need to take the joycons off before putting it away, quick in and out. And it's also thin, which is really nice. When travelling I can just keep the power cord in my luggage because I don't always have power on the train anyway, and the battery usually lasts fine. But, the case is a little flimly and buttons are probably being pushed.

Now, I'd prefer something hard plastic, like the bigben, but I'd like thinner like PDP.

Like most people said, getting the Switch and Zelda is just fine. If he buys games physically like I do (easy to trade games I don't like) you won't be needing an SD card.

What I would recommend is $20 official Nintendo brand carry case (link) that comes with a screen protector. It fits the portable console and few game cards in a really slim case that is good for bus rides and such. Plastic screen film is enough for the possible wear from repeatedly docking the station

u/OckhamsFolly · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

So, let me get this straight. You are looking for a hard, shock resistant case that snaps on to your Switch, over the screen, when not in use. In theory, something like this slim case, except instead of a padded zippered pouch, it would just be the front part made out of hard plastic on the outside (presumably with a soft silicone interior to absorb) and would snap onto the Switch, covering the screen and controllers. Is this correct?

Because I am pretty sure the thing I described does not exist.

Edit: Would something like this, which does not cover the screen, work?

u/Abmet · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Is this controller going to be quality, based on the company? It seems to be my perfect idea of a controller - GameCube style, but with enough buttons for everything (if the sticks click in, that is).

u/JoshuaJSlone · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

PowerA's is the only straight up wireless controller in the GCN style. The other new versions are wired. 8BitDo has announced a wireless adapter, but unless you're using it with a Wavebird that's still going to involve wires.

u/smashbrawlguy · 3 pointsr/smashbros

The PowerA Gamecube Controller is basically a Switch Pro Controller (minus rumble and Amiibo scanning) housed in the casing of a Gamecube controller. It's a very faithful recreation of the original, the only difference I've noticed is the addition of the extra buttons.

u/Lorben · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

8bitdo Gbros adapter. I'm using one for that exact purpose. Works great.

Side note: The SNES controller does not have ZL and ZR but the adapter will send that command if you press Start and Select at the same time. So you can still get to the save state menu and rewind despite not having the physical buttons to do so.

Just picked up a Switch via the Target deal. Need the usual accompaniment.

I'm picking up an amFilm screen protector and would like a case.

I've seen cases from TomToc, Fyoung, and the Orzly pack which seems like a good deal; and just came across this Zadii grip (Satisfye clone?), case, and screen protector that also looks like a good deal.

Any recommendations?

u/PostResidencyGoals · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
u/MapleA · 2 pointsr/Splatoon_2

I agree with you BUT!! I would not recommend the pro controller in OPs configuration. Meaning if you’re in his situation just play handheld. The reason is because when you hold the switch the screen is closer to your face and you feel less like your hunching over a small screen. Pro controller is great on a TV. Not when you use the switch in stand mode. The ideal way for OP to play mobile is if he has a satisfye grip. If you like having neck problems then go ahead play with a pro controller in portable mode.

u/Allaakmar · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Here’s my loadout:

First, I like being able to play in tabletop mode as I like having the joycons removed and separated while I play on the go, I carry the straps (though I removed the strap part so it’s just a way to add extra width to the joycons) and this tablet stand because I do like the normal one.

Next up, I use a portable USB-C charger with a PD port on it. I used to use a third party Switch charger since I’m not using it to dock, but I like having the option to charge my phone as well.

Finally, I use a case to carry everything in. The normal slim ones definitely aren’t enough, so I use one like this that fits everything so I can have everything on the go in a compact space.

TLDR: I keep a tablet stand, joycon straps, and a portable charger in a large case for when I’m on the go with my Switch. None of these are must haves, but I enjoy them all.

P.S.
One ESSENTIAL accessory is a screen protector. I got a small scratch on my bezel from my dock and it still bugs me I didn’t get a screen protector immediately. It baffles me that there’d be a design flaw like that, but it happens.

Finally, a lot of people like the Satisfye grips. While I’ve never found them necessary, a lot of people have. It would also be worth getting the bundle with the carrying case since it wouldn’t fit in a normal one.

Hope this helps or gives you some ideas of what you might want.

u/Sol-Savitr · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Or at their website. I bought the grip from their indiegogo campaign and just got it a few days ago. Its awesome so far.

u/clanton · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Well I'd say your best bet would be cutting the bottom of the grip with a Stanley knife. Saves buying another grip and should be pretty easy, it's just soft plastic. Otherwise I've heard good things about this Satisfye grip - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07FNJJG5V/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_vGMRDbG23WWCE and it doesn't seem to obstruct the USB C port at all.

This post got a bit longwinded because I'm a bit passionate on this subject, sorry. The PC gamepad space was a nightmare before Valve singlehandedly fixed it all. It used to be "Buy an Xbox pad or get out." Or as you said, "no other controller compares with it."

So Valve made the other controllers compare with it. Arguably, it's actually become the weakest and most feature-deprived controller these days now that other controllers are allowed to compete with native support across the board, because the only real advantage it had was that every game natively supported it. It has no gyro, no touchpad, and the least amount of usable buttons out of all the major controllers. I'd make an Epic Store comparison, but I have better things to talk about:

Beyond just adding support for every controller under the sun, the amount of control Steam Input gives you is incredible. Anything you could think of, and dozens of things you never thought of and never knew you needed. You can make it so that buttons behave differently based on whatever else is being pressed. A common thing to do is to bind the Back button with various other buttons for things like volume, playlist control, alt tabbing, etc.

If you have a PS4 pad or a Steam Controller (or any future controller that adds touchpads) you can add Touch Menus to them. These are fully customizable:

Example One

Example Two

Example Three

If you don't have a touchpad, you can use Radial Menus instead, which work similarly but with a stick instead of a touchpad.

My personal favorite use is for a Steam Controller which I configured to use the gyro for precise aiming, but have it only enabled while my thumb on the right touchpad so it only moves when I want it to move, and the sensitivity drops if I half-pull my trigger for lining up the shot. It makes using a controller in an FPS actually bearable, even enjoyable at times.

And again: Valve developed all of this as part of the software suite for their own controller, and then just natively supported all other controllers for all features that they're reasonably capable of. The PS4 and Switch Pro controllers can use Gyro, PS4 can use Touchpad, etc. They went out of their way to improve the competition for their own product because it was better for their customers. The end result was that they wanted controllers to be better, they didn't care how we got there.

Hell, at the beginning of this year they randomly added support for PowerA's Gamecube-style Switch Pro controller. It blew my mind, I did not expect them to add official support shortly after release for this obscure third party controller, but they did.

That's why I don't like Epic. Epic would never do any of this. That's why they're not interested in being better, they're not interested in actually competing. They're interested in giving you no other options. You don't have to be better if you're the only choice. That's why I don't value their "competition" at all. We don't need them. We were doing fine until they came along and started screwing everything up.

u/safe_for_work_stuff · 2 pointsr/EmulationOnAndroid

If you've already got an OTG adapter then any usb controler will work. Here's a PC usb gamecube controller that should work

There's the gamecube controller for the switch, but I don't know if those will work on phone/pc or not.

there are wireless ones for the switch, which means on android they'ge got that wierd terrible input lag so avoid those.

I've found that using the magic-ns adapter plugged into my phone, I can connect joycons or other Switch wireless controllers to my Note8 and play emulator games just fine. I was playing Windwaker with it last week.

  1. Buy a tempered glass screen protector. Docks have been known to scratch them up.
  2. Buy a micro SD card that's at LEAST 128GB in size.
  3. If you're going to play handheld at all and experience discomfort, definitely buy either a Skull & Co grip or a Satisfye grip.
  4. If you want to share your games AT ALL with anybody else in your family who also owns their own separate Switch, definitely buy your games physical. (There is a LOT you can read up on cloud saves / game sharing / etc. about this, but this is the rule of thumb, imo.)
  5. If you're NOT going to share your games with anybody else, then buying your games digitally tends to cut down on load times a little bit, as far as I can tell. Just keep an eye on how much space you have left on your micro SD.
  6. Definitely buy a Nintendo Switch Online (or whatever the hell it's called) Subscription. You need this to play games online, and you get a bunch of free NES / SNES games, too. Also, if you want to buy the Online subscription for multiple Switches, there's a family plan thing you can get as well.
  7. If you're going to play docked, invest in a Pro Controller. If you're going to play Smash, either invest in a Gamecube controller adapter and get a GC controller... or buy this wireless controller.
u/frenchfriedtatters · 2 pointsr/smashbros

This is what I have. It actually runs on two Double A batteries lol. So I guess it'd be easier to disconnect. Just open the back and take the batteries out!

u/wiikendwarrior84 · 2 pointsr/nintendo

8 bit do sells an adapter that I use in place of my Pro controller and it works great for original Gamecube controllers. It just maps the buttons to either a switch pro style (shoulders are ZL/ZR & Z is R) or GCN (shoulders are L/R & Z is ZR).

u/ahh_rada · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
u/Airsh · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I use this, but you need to plug it into a Wii remote as that's how you connect to it. You will need to make sure to update the drivers on this adapter btw. However, if you don't have a Wii remote lying around: There's also this thing too.

u/RickVince · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Not to mention the home button and everything that comes on the Pro controller and Joycons.

However I think I'm gonna stick with my classic console controllers and my beloved 8Bitdo Gbros.

u/TheBearOfBadNews · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

If you don't have a ton of controllers that need to be connected, or have the money to spend, my brother and I use these wireless adapters and they work great. I've not noticed latency or anything like that if that worries you, but I'm also not a competitive player.

u/bread_thread · 2 pointsr/smashbros

Nah, they’re only for docked mode.

But! this will let you use the controllers outside of docked mode

u/fifosexapel · 2 pointsr/MarioMaker2

I love the Pro Controller, but I have heard people complain about the D-Pad. I have never had an issue with mine, but I have not played a lot D-Pad intensive games with it.

I have heard good things about the Power A controllers (both the gamecube style and the pro controller style) but I haven't used them myself. The wired ones can be found for around $25 and the wireless for $40 so they might be a good choice as a second controller if you don't want to spend too much.

I own this Gamecube adapter that lets you connect both GCN and has a Wii Classic Controller socket, which means you can connect the controllers from the mini consoles to the Switch - which I plan to do to play SMM2 levels.

I'm also considering this 8 bit do adapter that lets you connect PS4, Xbox and Wii U Pro controllers to switch, since I really like the WIi U Pro and it's just gathering dust at home.

u/Dweezicus · 2 pointsr/miniSNES

If you’re looking for a wireless option, 8bitdo has a nice adapter. . I know it says Nintendo Switch, but it’s also windows compatible.

u/PWH187 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Go with this adapter plus Wii Classic Pro or the SNES Classic controller. I play SMM 1 with a SNES controller and its awesome.

u/AquaticRuins · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Assuming the input delay isn't bad a wireless GC controller adapter might be for you. I've never owned this product so I can't stand by it's quality but It's worth a shot.

u/RachelBee86 · 2 pointsr/nintendo

So I found this product recently but haven't opened the box yet. It makes any game cube controller wireless and maintains rumble. Also got some reusable batteries.

The stock Nintendo hybrid, grey. Perf for tabletop mode, only a slight pain to remove to use TV since you can slide it off after removing a joycon

I understand there's a few different hybrid cases but they're all the same style

u/sasasa377 · 2 pointsr/hardwareswap

Mate I'm sorry to say but I strongly doubt you'll be able to get $90 for the joycons. The case is neat, but you can get brand new joycons on Amazon for 71$, less for the red/blue ones. The color is neat but I'm doubtful anyone would pay a 20$ premium on it. Perhaps if you priced it a bit closer to 70$ you'd have better luck - but even then after fees and shipping you're coming out way lower than you could on Craigslist.

As for the mouse, that's a pretty okay price there. Good luck with the sales.

u/danielleosaur · 2 pointsr/Rochester

Yeah...you probably should. I bought one, but haven't put it on yet. I've had it since launch and I haven't had any scratches on it. But I'm extremely careful when putting it in the dock and I have a case for it. I'd say a case is absolutely mandatory if you're going to be using it on the go.

Personally, I've been looking for a case with three characteristics:

  1. Mesh pouch for AC Adapter etc.
  2. Protective flap to shield screen from mesh pouch
  3. Hard(ish) shell

So far, the only case I've found that has all three is the Surge: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Carry-All-Case/dp/B01N6RMR30

It also has straps for joycons... so this one gets my vote (granted, it's not super sexy)
u/DeltaKiteFlyer · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Hey friend. I went with a slim case by Surge on Amazon but returned it when I realized I couldn't fit extra jot cons and a battery. If you just want a slim, cool-looking case to carry the switch unit with attached joycons it can't be beat in my mind. It's only 10 bucks and good quality.

Im getting my switch in about a week and a half, so i've started to look for accesories, and I think i need some help :P

Initially ill be getting Mario Kart, so im going to buy the official Joy Con Wheel x2 thing.

I was also going to buy a carrying case, and I saw this one, which looked nice.

The last thing I was going to buy for now was a screen protector, since i've heard they can get scratched easily when placing/removing the console from the dock, so I was thinking of buying this one. I also saw a Hori screen protector, but it has horrible reviews (Mostly complaining about it unsticking at the bottom of the switch because of the heat when being docked).

So, are these good choices or should I buy some other one instead?

Also, ill probably end up buying a controller, however, I find the pro controller to be too expensive, so I was thinking of buying the Hori one which is much more affordable, but is it any good? Are there any other good controllers? And I was looking at Hori stuff, so I stumbled upon the Playstand, and the game case. Are they worth buying?

Sorry if this comment is too big, im very hyped for the Switch, and I dont want to ruin my experience with bad accesories =)

EDIT: I forgot to ask, Is a big SD Card worth it? How much space would you recommend if it is?

Amazon Reviews "Bend"

u/Bukosai · 2 pointsr/Switch

PDP has some kits with some cheap accessories. It includes a case as well, this all costs around 30 bucks (USD)
Nyko has a accessory known as "Clip Grip Power". It's the Joycon grip with a 3000 mAh power bank inside, and a phone stand for the Nintendo Switch Online App. I have one and it's really good, especially if you don't already own a power bank for your switch. This was 25 bucks. Very good price compared to the charging grip by Nintendo.
Split Joycon grips are available for less than 15 bucks, I have a pair (I forget what brand, but most look the same) and they work great. Back to Nyko, they said they are going to make a portable dock that is essentially the same one as the official dock. Here's a amazon link; go to nyko.com for a gamestop release date. https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501733668&sr=8-1&keywords=743840872252
As of now, this is supposed to be 50 bucks.
HORI recently made a controller which is cheaper than the pro controller, with a few drawbacks, like it's wired, no gyroscope or NFC reader, and so on. I don't own one; but it's 30 bucks. It seems like a good controller.

Honestly, cases will be on your taste. Some are too big (like that game traveler deluxe case; jeez that's huge.) Some offer too little. You decide. I just stuck with a basic BoTW case with 14 game cards for the future.

u/TheBigYello1isTheSun · 2 pointsr/Switch

I’d get the Nyko travel dock if I were you. It’s small and foldable and takes up way less space than the original dock. I have 2 portable docks, my main dock is in my bedroom, and outside of having the portable docks for travel, I find that the best use I will get from them is just leaving them hooked to the other TVs in my house so that I can dock to whatever TV I’m near without having to unhook the main one from my bedroom and plug it up elsewhere. The price went up a bit, but it’s worth it.

u/adanfime · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Hey there, /u/Rawkin_Wolf420!

Hey! This kind of questions belong in the Daily Question Thread that is stickied to the frontpage, but let me answer real quick.

What you should get:

  • Screen Protector (I recommend this as a must have)

  • Carrying Case (if you travel a lot)

  • microSD Card (if you plan on getting your games digital)

  • If you want to play multiplayer with friends or family, you could get an extra set of JoyCons or even a Pro Controller, which I highly recommend.

  • The JoyCon takes up to 20 hours to run out of battery, and they recharge when attaching the cons to the console and docking it. If you are really worried for battery running out, there is an accessory that extends the charge of each JoyCon.

u/craigbezzle · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Does anyone think the official AA battery pack shown here will provide a good amount of grip to the back of the joycons? I sometimes find the Switch to be a tad uncomfortable for my hands when playing extended amount of handheld mode, and I think an extended or bulky grip would help. I've seen 3D printed grips that look great but I don't have access to those, and the added functionality of longer battery life definitely intrigues me

u/tzamora · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
  1. Yes

  2. I don't know I have never had a 3DS, but I guess the Nintendo account is the one you need to use.

  3. I believe you should go for a SD. You can save shovel knight and Snipperclipers fine without problems, but after that your switch will fill up too fast.

  4. Forget about 1,2 Switch awful game. Take into account that playing with ONE joycon is not nice. Is too small and really uncomfortable. You best option would be metal slug 3 is easy for people that don't play a lot, its just shot and kill everything you see. Play arms before buying it, some people like it, some people (like me) don't. I think is best Mario Kart.

  5. The Link archer amibo is arrows everyday

Buy another set of joycons when you can and try to buy these things when available:
    https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-AA-Battery-Pack/dp/B071XXXK2X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497634550&sr=8-1&keywords=aa+joycon+pack

Not for the extra battery, but for having more grip handle of the Joycon

The AA battery pack add on for the joycons actually improve ergonomics too. The best part is they’re super cheap!

You don’t have to have batteries in them to use them.

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-AA-Battery-Pack/dp/B071XXXK2X

u/IkananXIII · 2 pointsr/splatoon

If I may make a suggestion, have you tried using the joycons on their own, without the grip? I found the grip uncomfortable as well, so I use the Joycons separately with these battery pack attachments to make them nice and fat and comfortable to hold. Aiming with a single joycon is so snappy and feels great. It's definitely something I think everyone should try at least once. I just use the battery packs to make the joycons more ergonomic, but you can also put one or two batteries in each one to adjust the weight to your liking. And obviously they'll charge the controller, though I've never found a need for that so I just use dead batteries to add some weight.

Just read the reviews. Also I have it and can assure you it works great. https://www.amazon.com/FastSnail-Controller-Converter-Dualshock-Compatible/dp/B073ZFPJLQ

You do have to update it to get rumble and gyro working though. But it's litterally drag and drop a file onto it. You can get it cheaper on eBay I read.

u/dannyankee · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Hows the input lag and can you connect multiple controllers at once? Does gyro work with PS4 controllers?

I bought the coov n100 like a month back because I don't mind it being wired its the small black one got it off ebay for 10, think fast snail sells it on amazon now for 17 . Best 10 bucks I've ever spent on an accessory. This

My PS4 controller plays like it was meant for switch gyro rumble and all. But for a few bucks more if this does all that plus allows you to connect as many controllers as you like I'd say this is a no brainer if you want something like it.

u/mouthsmasher · 2 pointsr/xboxone

I've got the pro controller, and it's pretty great. It's so much more comfortable and nicer to use than the joycons. I really do think the Xbox One controller is better though, so I also bought one of these, which lets you use an Xbox controller with your Switch. One downside is that it has to be plugged in with a cord, and the other is that the A/B and X/Y buttons are reversed. By plugging the little adapter into a PC, you can switch the buttons around though.

The quality is hit or miss, it seems. Some people in the reviews have had slightly warped shells that don't close all the way. With some, it's just cosmetic, with a few, it's caused issues with rumble feeling faint. Most seem to be have success with them, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I understand what you mean but if you're interested and buy say the default gray you can get replacement shells off Amazon for a reasonable price. Just note the reviews are mixed, I think the biggest issue is having to sand/file a couple of the edges to make the cases fit properly.

I have this case. It's a hard shell with a soft screen lining on the inside and has enough space to fit quite a few physical games, and although not specifically made to hold more than the switch and some games itself, you can fit the joycon bumpers in the case just fine. It doesn't bend at all and the zipper is quality.

I was reading in another thread (it's been a while but I think it was just a daily questions thread) and someone mentioned this headset https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Nintendo-Switch-Splatoon-Splat-Headset/dp/B01A0PVN5A for just the mixer (not the headset itself) and using your own headset. If you look through the reviews a few people talk about it in more detail. Can't give my own input since I haven't tried it, but if you already have a nice headset and you just want to mix chat audio and game audio, you might want to look into this.

Do you already have one, or are you planning on purchasing one? If it's the latter, just buy that Hori Splatoon headset. You can disconnect the headset and plug whatever you want (so long as it's using a standard 3.5mm jack) into the mixer.

Honestly, I've been looking around and maybe I don't have the terminology right, but I can't find anything as compact as this that does the same job. If you have, I'd be curious to see what it looks like and how much it costs.

I'm looking for something that would function similar to the mixer that Hori used to sell. Need to merge two audio outputs (switch and voice) into one set of headphones. This is the item that is out of stock: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A0PVN5A

u/TSchab20 · 2 pointsr/nintendo

I didn’t like it and bought a new left joy-con from Hori. It works great and has a traditional d-pad. Only downside is that the joy-con can only be used in handheld mode (attached to the switch), but this doesn’t effect me since I only play in handheld or docked with a pro controller.

This is the one I have: HORI D-Pad Controller (L) (Zelda) Officially Licensed - Nintendo Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AJRN4CE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_FJe6BbGGBS1Q5

u/swissarmychris · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I have one of these (specifically this one) and while I haven't used it a ton, here are my best answers:

  • I haven't noticed any significant battery drain. I don't leave it on my Switch all the time, but I've left it on there when travelling and didn't notice any unusual drain either while playing or while it was in sleep mode.

  • If it's wider than a normal joycon, that's news to me. I have a pretty similar case to the one you linked (mine is probably a little smaller) and the Switch fits inside just fine with the Hori joycon on there. I don't think it will be a problem.

  • The dpad sends the exact same inputs as a stock joycon, so it should work with all games that use those buttons. I could see it being awkward/annoying for games that treat them as individual buttons, but it should still work.
u/dankus917 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
u/Loofa08 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I hear you man but can I make a suggestion and buy the joy con that has to be attached at all times to work? The one with the D Pad. I’ve had it half a year and other than a goofy squishy minus button it works flawless. It’s normally $20 but I bought it for $13 on Amazon.

Yea, I think the Hori Tough Pouch gets it pretty close. Though It would be nicer if it has a pouch on the top lid that's as wide as the center divider flap.

I'm getting the HORI Switch Tough Case from Amazon UK, but looks like it's out of stock now. I thought GAME had some things too?

u/pbbpwns · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The [Hori Tough Pouch] (https://www.amazon.com/Tough-Pouch-Nintendo-Switch-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01MR63I6F) has been doing its job really well for me! The Nintendo Switch fits right in there and does not shake while travelling. There is also an extra compartment to store game cartridges. The exterior is solid and will protect the Switch well if it is dropped.

u/nndttttt · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Tempered glass screen protector and a nice case are must haves.

I use a Hori Tough Pouch and an Orzly Tempered glass screen protector. I would also recommend thumbgrips, the one on the switch are a bit slippery and it'll prevent wear and tear as well like this. I use Skill & Co. Skin set.

I haven't gotten the pro controller because I spend most of my switch time on the transit and the grip has been okay for home. My friends have all said it's a must have, I'm just waiting for a sale to grab it.

Because you've played botw already, I say get the controller. Better yet, get another game on your list instead! I'd recommend a multiplayer game so you can use the switch for what it's meant for.

u/buffalopete · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Some things to consider.

The costs: A second set of joy-cons runs 70 bucks or so, additionally you're correct a Joy-Con Grip should be purchased to seat the controllers - probably another 10 dollars or so. There are joy con grips with a port for a charging cable, that will charge the joy cons those are 25 bucks. I have one, but I never use the charger, rather I swap the extra joy-cons onto the switch while it's charging.
A pro controller runs around $60.
Ultimately, 80 bucks for joy-cons vs. 60 for the pro-controller.

The quality of the controller:
The pro controller is nicer, no question. But it can't split into two allowing two people to use it.

What your kids will want/what will save you headaches:
My vote is to get another set of joy cons to ensure they're both playing with the same type of controller and not fighting over it. They're likely at an age where they won't feel the need for the "best" controller so much as they'd want the ability to play with more friends.

u/Jebobek · 2 pointsr/Games

Yes, people are having issues when it is docked. This is because the basic dock is just a plastic piece that holds the joy-cons in a controller style.

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Comfort-Grip-Black/dp/B01MS7YUA7/ref=pd_sbs_63_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=W6583VVZMYG313HK4J3J&th=1

It does not modify the sync it has to the console. If you are holding this setup such that your fingers cover the emitter (top) then you can still have interrupts. If you use the pro controller the broadcast is stronger and is less likely to be interrupted.

u/takaci · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The joycon grips come with the console as well as with spare joycons.

The console comes with (at least for me): switch itself (i.e. the screen part), a pair of joycons, a pair of joycon grips, a joycon comfort grip so you can turn them into one controller, the plastic dock, a hdmi cable, and finally a usb-c AC wall adapter (which can be used either directly into the switch to charge it or as part of the dock which also charges the switch)

u/FFevo · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The Joycon Comfort Grip. Joycons will never be a pro controller.... but this makes them pretty damn close. Officially license by Nintendo and a steal at under $10.

u/penemuel13 · 2 pointsr/Spyro
u/BestSorakaBR · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I have this which is sadly the best case to actually put on your switch in my opinion. The single piece hard shell case you'd need to remove the entire thing if you want to just remove 1 joycon. The TPU cases seem a bit too finicky to get on from some reviews.

I might give this grip and case a try. Apparently the grip is larger than the stock one so it should fit better in my hands. The case seems like it should fit joycons so it seems like it's what OP's looking for. The licensed one from Nintendo is hot ***. Doesn't fit anything but the switch, games, and cables which is what I get from my $2 generic case.

I personally love the case I got. It won't do much in terms of protecting the Switch if you drop it or something. However, the best part about it is that the case can be used as a stand when you open it up. It's great for setting the case down on the tray on your plane and playing the Switch that way. Here is an Amazon link but I payed less for it buying it from Toys R Us.

And then on Amazon US, there's a plain Switch case with the same packaging, leading me to believe it's the same as the Splatoon one, just with no design. And reviews for this one definitely say it's a soft design that's meant more for scratches than any real protection.

Mod your controllers to have a D-Pad, or buy one of these. Problem solved.

Yeah I have the same problem with going down. It’s not horrible, but it happens enough to where I would buy something else to try. I didn't receive an answer yesterday, so reposting:

Are there any controllers out there similar to the HORI D-Pad Controller?

https://www.amazon.com/HORI-D-Pad-Controller-Zelda-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01AJRN4CE/?th=1

There are lots of 3rd party controllers out there, but this is the only one I've seen which "replaces" the joycon and thus is good for use in portable mode.

The problem with the HORI D-Pad for me is that the d-pad is still in a horrible position for actually using. I was hoping someone produced a similar controller but maybe with the d-pad in a different position, or a different controller shape, etc., so that using the d-pad won't be uncomfortable and cause horrible cramps.

Unfortunately, this controller is the only thing I've found. Everyone else seems to be only producing full controllers, and that's no good for me for playing in handheld mode.

u/chrisdivefr · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

u/TornadoCreator · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Honestly never bothered with Screen Protectors for anything. Don't use them for my phone or my Vita either. I have a carry case for my Vita and a normal flip-open phone case. That works well enough I find.

I like the Hori brand case. Used them for my PSP, Vita, and 3DS. So I know they're good quality. So long as you look after your device, there's no reason you should ever have the screen scratched. Just remember, don't pull or tilt towards yourself when taking the Switch out of the dock, that's how the dock ends up scuffing the screen.

I looked online and saw prices ranging from $300-500. Is there any difference between these consoles other than the skin?

The $300 base model of the Nintendo Switch (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01LTHP2ZK/) does not include any games, but is still what you should most likely buy. More expensive models may have games bundled or free in-game currency (e.g. Fortnite), but they shouldn't be more than $350 (plus tax). At $360, you're not really saving any money, and anything more expensive than THAT is from a third party trying to make a quick buck. The console itself currently has few variations; most of your customization will depend on what color controllers you get with the console.

What type of accessories am I going to need?

This depends on your use case. I'd recommend getting a screen protector (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/). If you expect to bring the Switch out of the house a lot, also get a case (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MR63I6F/). Anything else, like special controllers (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0748S3GXG/) or a dock cover (https://www.etsy.com/listing/560319070/), is largely unnecessary right now; look into them when you find you need extra joy-cons (https://smile.amazon.comdp/B078GZM4H8/) or a tabletop stand (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N9RTMWS/) for your Switch. In the end, you should not be spending more than $400 for the Switch, one game, and core accessories.

As for games, so far I planned on buying Smash Bros, Let's Go Pikachu, and One's Justice. Can you recommend any other games? I was never into Zelda but hear the new game is very good.

How old is your kid? Super Mario Odyssey (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MY7GHKJ/) is fun, and has a great co-op mode if you want to play together. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also always a blast (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N1037CV/). I'm also a huge fan of Splatoon 2 (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N9QVIRV/), but it's probably better for older kids because it requires more dexterity. There's lots of games to recommend, but it'll help to know what your kid already likes... or what you want your kid to like ;)

Side note: To play online, you need Nintendo Switch Online (https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/). It's $20 a year for one ACCOUNT, or $35 a year for 8 accounts. Each account also has separate save files, if multiple people will be playing on the same Switch. Smash Ultimate and Mario Kart both have online modes, but Splatoon's primary game modes are online-only.

Whats the difference between mario party and mario space odyssey?

Super Mario Odyssey is an action-platformer for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Party is a virtual board game for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Galaxy is an action-platformer for the Wii, a completely different console.

Let us know if you have follow-up questions!

u/TopTierBeard · 1 pointr/GameSale

Yeah the case is great. It has a slot where you slide the cartridge in so you don't need to lug around the game boxes. Link below:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MR63I6F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_1gOvzbQD9Y70N

I would be asking for 475 shipped. I still have the original box for the console itself, and the pro controller. To put it in perspective, I spent close to $600 when all was said and done. Didn't play much handheld, mainly used docked with the pro controller. Adult owned, smoke free home. All that jazz.

I don't want to sell but we just bought a house and I need money for a lawnmower. Check my post history - just sold a ton at /r/hardwareswap when I broke down my gaming PC.

All in, you'd get the Neon switch, pro controller, Zelda, Mario Kart 8 DLX, screen protector (installed), hori case, hori console stand, and dock sock to prevent screen scratches from the dock (custom made from Switzerland!).

Glad to answer any questions.

I went with Hori's case simply because I've been getting their cases since the DSlite. I feel I can trust Hori's build quality in terms of protection, I always throw a portable in my bag for commuting so I know they can take a beating. I can always just get another case when others hit the market or if I feel like it doesn't tic every box for how I wind up playing the system.

u/Solidusfunk · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Oh man! I haven't found anywhere in the UK to buy this, I think the case looks quality and robust. I went for the Hori one from amazon!

Its rather boring, nothing like the Zelda one melts

u/deanze1 · 1 pointr/gameswap

Yeah that makes sense. Maybe one of the following extras: a Hori case, an Orzly Comfort Grip Case for Switch, or Minecraft: Story Mode (Switch). Any of these appeal to you?

u/fitzmx6 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I have https://www.amazon.com/Tough-Pouch-Nintendo-Switch-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01MR63I6F/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1492783506&sr=1-2&refinements=p_4%3AHOR and Im quite happy with it. Travel to work every day with it in my backpack. My only concern is when I have more than 6 games. I trade in a lot so it may no happen for physical anyway.

Check out the third picture here which shows the inside of a different case:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B01MR63I6F/

Note that this is not the case you asked about, but you can probably expect the insides to be similar. If you zoom in you can see 5 individual elastic pouches to hold games. It's lining the top of the dividing piece of fabric, easy to miss. Then right below that you have another elastic band in the centre. I'm assuming this can hold the two joycon straps parallel.

u/deuslunus · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Are you having a hard time choosing the best accessories for your Switch? I personaly can't decide between these carry cases:

u/LeKnuth · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I'm very happy with the Hori Case.

The shell is harder than the official case, it fits 5 games and the Joy-Con grips.

u/pixelpushing · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

If he wants something discrete and compact then the Hori Tough Case might be worth looking at.

If he's a big Zelda fan then he might like one of the Zelda cases, the RDS ones are a bit bulkier but also come with little Zelda branded cartridge holders.

u/fntigre · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

This is the one I'm using. Not a true hard case, but I'll be using it to start out.

Holds games too...

An alternative to buying a pro controller is to get a better joy con grip. This is the one I got: https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Joy-Comfort-Grips-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01MS7YUA7

u/slipperypooh · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

And every review says "Great for little hands" or "small", haha. Though I appreciate the link.

I guess I didn't realize you could play with motion controls with the pro controller, so I guess that could be an option. Can you play motion controls with the comfort grip, ala: https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Joy-Comfort-Grips-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01MS7YUA7/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1549558299&sr=8-2&keywords=switch+joy+con+comfort+grip ?

I guess it's not much different than the Pro Controller.

u/LostMyLastAccount · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I saw this on amazon, it looks like what you're looking for: this is the link!

But the title of the product is soooooo bad.

u/JevinTM · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Here is a link to a grip that has a few different styles.

u/TheSingingBrakeman · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Checking on Bestbuy, I found both the charging grip (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/nintendo-joy-con-charging-grip/5730706.p?skuId=5730706) which'll charge your joycons as you or your friend play, and an off-brand version for a very reasonable price (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/powera-comfort-grip-for-nintendo-joy-con-controllers-black/5729901.p?skuId=5729901).

The charging grip is also available on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Charging-Grip/dp/B01N33MFPK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1497755536&sr=8-3&keywords=joycon+grip), as is the non-charging off-brand grip (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Comfort-Grip-Black/dp/B01MS7YUA7/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1497755536&sr=8-4&keywords=joycon+grip).

It's pretty weird that you can't buy a standalone Nintendo-brand non-charging grip, isn't it?

Would definitely recommend a pro controller, so much more comfortable than joy-con. I got joy-con comfort silicone grip things that go on the joy-con, but even then my hands absolutely kill me from playing Switch. If you just want to play as soon as you can, I guess get silicone comfort grips for your joy-con, and a comfort grip controller. Also definitely get a glass screen protector, and this case.. For games, I'd recommend BotW, Splatoon 2, and Odyssey (I assume by the time you have enough saved up odyssey will be out, it comes out in a month)

I have this zelda case I got from GameStop. It has a ridiculous amount of slots to hold your games, not to mention the design is really nice so I recommend it :) Here’s the case

u/ArkayneShad0w · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I love the officially licensed Zelda one. Or the Mario one if you're into that. Has 24 card slots built in and a microfiber cloth to get rid of all the damn fingerprints. It won't keep it as safe as some of the other ones but it looks great and has a handle to hold it with so it probably won't fall as much if you're carrying it around. https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Carrying-Case-Screen-Protector/dp/B01N226BBW I got this case since the Switch launched and I’ve been rocking it since it’s basic but works great. I especially love how it can be used as a stand so I can prop my Switch up on tabletop mode in bed

u/lman777 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

If you're looking for above average portability, I have no hesitation in recommending the official nintendo case. The portability is really good (though there isn't much space inside) and it functions as a better stand than the included kickstand, which really comes in handy. I also like that it's a low profile black color, which may not matter to other people, but for me I don't want to be carrying it in a flashy attention grabbing case at work.

Link here: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Carrying-Case-Screen-Protector/dp/B01N226BBW

u/mobott · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I really like the official carrying case, because the built in kickstand gives a better angle than the one on the switch, and makes it possible to play it on surfaces that I couldn't with the normal one, like on my bed. I can't vouch for the quality of the included screen protector because I'm already using a glass one, but I guess it's a nice inclusion.

u/mytoemytoe · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I got the PowerA magnetic cover: though obviously the number one thing you worry about is dropping your Switch, I'm more worried about scratching the screen while it's in my backpack or anywhere else. Link

hybrid cover case

u/strangemusicbox · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

If you're nervous about scratches (as I am), I would definitely recommend this console cover. It's doubles as a kickstand of sorts, but much sturdier than the one built into the console. You don't be able to dock it while the cover is in use, but if you purchase a USB C extender, you can just plug the console into the dock-- that way you never have to worry about scratches if you have a warped dock.

I have both of these products (just got the extender today) and they work beautifully. I hope this helps!

u/Ivopuk · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I want to HIGHLY recommend the Hybrid case (Normal or Splatoon 2 version).

Its SO fantastic and pretty cheap. Only con is that you have to take the Switch out of the case to put it in the dock. BUT that sounds harder than it is, I swear it takes maybe 2 real seconds.

Its fantastic case that protects the Switch and allows you to set it up in 3 different angles. PLUS, it looks really good.

Sure, the exhaust is on the top, but the intakes are on the lower back. See that there are holes in the back of the dock, and that all official cases and stands have holes in the back.

u/kerning_PQ · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

There's a hybrid case you can pick up that protects the tablet itself. There's also joycon silicon covers if you want. I don't really think those are necessary. A good zippered case as all you really need.

I love the "slim" tomtoc case. https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Nintendo-Original-Hardshell-Cartridges-Accessory/dp/B07C3Z8FFC
For some reason they increased in price, maybe one of the other colors is cheaper. I got mine for around 16 bucks. Looks like the "wide" version of the case is cheaper now?

It has just enough room to fit the 2 smaller kinds of skull&co joystick caps. It barely adds any thickness, yet it's rigid so it'll protect pretty well from falls. I can put the switch in my jacket pocket [darn, it's hot now..] and a few pants' pockets.

There's also a fatter one for chargers and such, but I have a pouch for my battery pack so I didn't need it.

u/RoscoeIV · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Quick question about tomtoc cases. I really like the look/form factor of these but I am torn between the slim and the larger case. I like the minimalism of the slim but the larger is $2 cheaper for what seems to be more. Does anyone have experience with both?

u/fish_taco_pirate · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I really like this one. If you don't need to bring any accessories with you it's great.

u/PinoyLaker · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

How many of you are using a grip on your switch? Any recommendations and is it mandatory?

Also, I just bought this ultra slim protective case from Tomtoc, on a lightning deal for $16.99, and I really do like it and how slim it is. But I also saw that Tomtoc had this case that came with a free grip for the same if not lesser price than the ultra slim. What do you guys think. I’ve only had my switch for about a week and probably gonna play 60-70% in console mode and the rest handheld. What’s nice about the ultra slim is that it fits in a couple of my shoulder bags when I take on the go.

u/Smitty2017 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

This one is the one i use now and the best one I found after trying several.
It’s extremely slim and lightweight, has a soft screen protector tab inside (with places to store game cards), but no b.s. like straps or anything to stop you from getting your switch out nice and easy. It’s a nice prime knit fabric with hardened edges and corners for protection.

You really should take a look; I love it and I throw my switch in this case and take my switch to the office everyday to play. Really easy to put away and pull out, plenty of protection, super slim.

Hey!

> Does your boyfriend enjoy buying physical copies of the games or are electronic copies fine?

Personally, I buy electronic versions for environmental reasons and so I have a 128GB microSD card. You can probably get a good deal on that given Black Friday. If you don’t have environmental reservations, I would say go with physical copies and a 32 or 64GB card because your bf can sell the game if he’s done with it. You can’t return electronic copies or sell them, so you’re kinda stuck with them forever.

> Switch V1 or V2?

Tbh, I wouldn’t recommend getting the second Switch only for the fact that you cannot remove the controllers. Having V1 off the bat allows your bf to pop the controllers off for 2 player games, the Switch Lite or V2 doesn’t allow that... and it’s something to consider imo. To me, Nintendo is all about playing with friends so I definitely enjoy being able to share immediately. This also removes the need for buying a separate controller.

> Games?

Classic many player games are Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros, closely followed by Mario Party. However, if your bf enjoys single player games, Zelda Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey are fantastic.

If you also wanna join in and play with him, I would suggest Overcooked 1 and 2. They’re amazing games and I know many nongamers that got hooked on these two games.

> Accessories?

I recommend getting a bag. You can buy something like this. It’s slim and perfect for carrying the Switch in his backpack.

If you have any questions, I got you! ;)

If you're worried about him ripping the joycons off with his Hulk-strength maybe you'd be interested in the grip attachment made by Satisfye.

Personally I've found it makes it much more comfortable to hold playing handheld and, in your cousin's case, it would probably greatly help in acting as a brace since he'd be holding the grip which also runs across the back of the console as well and not just the joycons themselves. You'd have to try pretty hard to accidentally break that thing.

u/Palidino · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Don't both these companies have versions already out for the OG switch? I have the skull and co case lol.

Sec let me look

Skull&Co

Satisfye

There's even more compact options like this that make a huge difference too (I have this one as well). Grips stick out past the switch but they're smaller. It's kinda like the skull&co with the smallest grips attached but a little less bulky.

I have dismotricity so I know your pain. I am only able to play it using the Satisfye grip (https://www.amazon.com/Satisfye-Ultimate-Comfortable-Ergonomic-Accessories-Thumbsticks/dp/B07FNJJG5V/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 )and even then I still do feel as if the game was no made for gamers with disabilities. I hope you will be able to enjoy it too and good luck !

u/asyrin25 · 1 pointr/gaming

>It is. Which is why i dont agree with people bitching about how "slow" the switches hardware is. If the games on it are good (which they are), why the fuck does it matter?

Dead Cells is a fine example of why it matters.

It's a great game if you have even the most remote interest in Metroidvanias. It runs like shit on the Switch. The crappy framerates of the game significantly impact the gameplay in a game where careful timing and reflexes are required.

>I have a 3ds. While yes, they have good games, most of them are clerly designed to be purely portable games. Not to mention the fact that with my large hands, i find holding the 3ds for longer than 10 minuets at a time to be very uncomfortable. Which is why the switch is better. Not only is it more comfortable in hand held, not only can i have multiple controller options, but i can dock it and play it on my TV as well.

They make grip cases for both the Switch and the 3DS that significantly improve their feel. My hands hurt holding either of them outside their cases. For the Switch, I recommend the Satisfye grip although the Skull and Co Gripcase is a close second. For the 3ds, I personally use the Monster Hunter Cross that I've modded with a rubberized grip. This is a pretty expensive option, however, so there are cheaper ones for people who don't want to invest that much.

>Exactly. And my PC does PC things and is a superior gaming machine to my Switch. But most games that i can play on one or the other, most time, i prefer the switch. I have emulators on my phone as well. But id still rather have those games on the switch because its a better platform for gaming than a Phone is.

I disagree. I use a cheap little xbox controller phone clip to hold my phone when I game. The controller connects bluetooth and provides a generally superior experience to gaming with my Switch. My phone has better audio, a better screen, and a more powerful processor. It also has free cloud saves and can connect to the internet without wifi (anbd has a superior wifi antennae).

>Ill take the taller screen, but even that said.. your arguing over .2" as if its a huge deal. Its not.

No, it's not. The OLED vs LED is though.

I plan to order one for myself on Black Friday :) However, I've heard that it's meant for people with larger than average hands, so def not for your son.

For a cheap controller, I'd recommend getting the 8bitdo wireless adapter. That way, you can use your PS4 controller!

u/mrstoehr · 1 pointr/Switch

I highly recommend the Satisfye grip when used handheld. Fully supports the joy cons to prevent bending/flexing, and makes it so much more comfortable. This plus a glass screen protector is my setup. A silicone case wouldn't fit with it due to fitting very tightly on the bare switch, but the satisfye seems to be a pretty good case as far as protection goes on its own. Most importantly, the rigidity it adds.

I have a Switch and I have to say the console itself is fine, but it's clear a massive miscalculation was made with the original design of the joycon. The Gamepad Pro so far seem much more durable(I've used the same since 2017 and it's only just finally beginning to experiences slightly less precises controls in one of the joysticks and that was mostly fixed with just a bit of calibration). However that might be because it actually uses what's likely a very different component model than the one that troubles joy-cons the most.

As it turn out, the faulty component(the joystick) is not even one Nintendo had designed themselves but is instead purchased from mass supplier. It's literally a "standard" third party model that was made for a variety of uses...

... and was likely never made by that supplier for durability due to the resistor pad inside the joystick box being made from graphite that metal component will literally dent and scratch over time.

Considering the tiny size of the joystick, I assume it was selected(though I have no ideas if Nintendo were originally aware of the weak nature of the internals of the joysticks boxes) primarily due to it's small size as to allow room for the much more advanced HD rumble(more advanced than even the Gamepad Pro's) in the pair and IR camera found in one ontop of the NFC sensor found in the other joycon.

All this said, it does mean that if you can find any third party model that use a different stick design though, they might be more durable than Nintendo's joycons and perhaps even cheaper than Nintendo's offering... since most third parties will have removed the more costly components/features of the controllers which is to say the forementioned HD Rumble/IR camera/NFC sensor.

Personally I've started the search myself even though my current joycons have yet to experience drift so I can preemptively make sure I have a more durable backup before I even get there. Though the tough part for me is to specifically find a pair that could support being used in handheld play which is my primary use for joycons.

My Gamepad Pro is still fine though, but I might still pick a new third party controller for a similar role though albeit different
reasons.
My dad's actually begun to play some games himself but while he's finally just starting to get the hang of 3D cameras, he still struggle to remember once in a while which button do what. But recently I fell upon a third party controller that's basically a modernized Gamecube controller updated with four shoulder buttons, motion control and a proper joystick instead of a C-stick, but otherwise retained the same controls layout.... including the extremely clear button identification layout with that massive green A button, that instantly noticeable red B and the X and Y butons to either sides of the top of the green A. It even got updated to have the screenshot/home buttons of Switch controllers too: https://www.amazon.ca/PowerA-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-GameCube/dp/B07GXLBCC3?th=1

If you want to connect multiple controllers, you'll need to get a usb c converter, and you'll need a 3rd party stand so the plug can stick out of the bottom. Or you can wait for that kickstarter one.

If you just need one controller, 8bitdo makes a wireless one and I've heard it works fine.

u/bharatb17 · 1 pointr/MarioMaker

This 8bitdo Bluetooth adapter supports the nes/snes Classic controllers or game cube controller with the switch:

u/romeo2413 · 1 pointr/MarioMaker

I've been using this 8bitdo adapter with the SNES classic controller. It says its a wireless adapter but you can also use it wired, which is amazing.

The only drawback is that the SNES classic controller doesn't have joysticks, so you can't really use it in editor. So stupid that you can't move the camera or cursor with the DPAD. But aside from that, it's basically perfect for actual gameplay.

The GameCube controller adapter takes up two usb slots and can be plugged into the dock. You can't use GameCube controllers portably with the offical adapter. Personally I reccomend either getting the powerA wireless gamecube controller or the 8bitdo wireless adapter if you want to play portable and docked.

There is a pricier way to play with Gamecube controllers, using 8bitdo's Gamecube wireless adapter. It's not out yet, but releases on the same day as Smash, so you should be fine there. There was some misinformation a few months back, the Elecom adapter is not compatible with guitars. Had a user saying it was with no proof, and a bunch of people went out and bought them.

There are two that are known to work. One is by Raphnet, and I'll have to find the other one, give me a but to edit. I still fully recommend the Raphnet adapter when it goes back in stock.

Edit: this one supposedly works. Had a few people on here praising it. Just need some sort of USB extension because it's short.

Still recommend the Raphnet adapter because it's long enough and plug in play, plus you can download the drivers and get 2ms latency.

I've been scouring the search feature and Google and I have a hard time picturing which case works for me exactly. I am looking for a case that can hold the future Nyko Portable Docking Kit, an extra set of JoyCons and their wrist straps + original wrist straps (The Docking Kit comes with an HDMI, power cable and the AC adapter). I realize that this might be a stretch given that the Docking Kit isn't out, but for those with amazing spatial abilities, that would be grand!

u/Carcass1 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

If you have a lot of physical games, pick up one of these cartridge cases up for sure. They’re a life saver for me. Compact and fit all my games that don’t fit into my case.

Also, i’d just get an extra set of joycons if you don’t have an extra set already. I’ve heard of drift problems and know it doesn’t make games unplayable, just annoying. If yours happens to do it and (assuming you’re originally in NA) you can’t send it in to get fixed right away, this way you’d still be able to play without an annoying drift issue.

Try the Hori Switch game case (Amazon link). Games fit according to this thread.

u/caprimulgusAU · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I probably wouldn't do it, because you might damage the contacts that way. I guess if you really wanted to, you could perhaps have them in some sort of individual sleeve/case, even if it's just a piece of paper, to avoid the contacts getting scratched (although, that might defeat the purpose of having them together in a pouch?).

Or at least have them held flat together in some way (rubber band?), to stop them scratching each other.

Personally, I just use Hori game cases (the 12 game one, but they also come in 24 game capacity) and smaller 4-game cases for more portability (or to lend games to people).

I have 2 of these:

https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Game-Nintendo-Switch-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01NASY99Z/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=switch+card+case+hori&qid=1554276238&s=videogames&sr=1-3

And 2 of these:

I believe you can also get small cases that hold 1 or 2 games. Maybe you could get a whole bunch of those, and carry those in your pouch?

u/the_number_19 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

For game cases, I've always wanted one of these(ordering it now in fact). It holds 12 cases. Problem is I have 13 physical right now, and by the end of the year I'll be around 18. So I'll need another one of these soon enough.

Now I don't keep the cartridges in the individual cases. The cases are more for display. For the game carts, I can't recommend this productenough! I have 1 and will be getting a 2nd when my physical library exceeds 24 games. It's cheap and holds 24 games nice and securely, or you can do 23 games and store an SD card in a slot.

If Nyko's scratched the screen, it's because you're doing it wrong. Off brand docks aren't limited to the same form factor as the official one, including options which make it more difficult to scratch anything, thus most are like that one there.

>Split screen: Split screen is going to be the tournament standard at grass roots events, because we simply can't afford extra monitors nor the space for double screen set ups.

Space I can understand, but how are TVs more expensive than Switches? Each setup can have 2 $150(or less) TVs for the same price of a Switch. You would need the extra TVs for hosting any kind of Splatoon 2 tournament down the line, as well. Now that I think about that, extra TVs are essential for most tournaments that aren't fighting games.

> Having an open bracket with everyone sorting themselves out leads to a very disorganized tournament. Having a set amount of tournament set ups (usually numbered) give me more control of the event as a TO

An open bracket doesn't mean that suddenly everyone is running around willy nilly doing their own thing. I just meant for the brackets for non-seeded players. If it's a small tourney, the entire thing is open bracket. Also, you can still have numbered setups of TVs and docks. I don't know how a BYO set up would lose this.

Fairness is debatable, but New Players is a valid point, mostly from the perspective of entrants that share a single Switch with their siblings.

Stolen property is a risk for every event ever. It's a valid point only if you see it as your responsibility to stop it from happening, which you do. So fair enough.

You lost me on the streaming point because there should only be one or two spectator systems set as streaming systems even if we use the BYO system. The spectator machines never have to be changed out, they need only join the proper Arena for the match they wish to stream.

Docks is a somewhat valid point, but may be alleviated later this year when Nyko's dock releases, depending on its quality.

u/UnfortunateCakeDay · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch
u/FatBaldWhiteMan · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

That Dock is really portable - almost looks to small for my taste (too light), just like a small windblow might be able to push over the switch. I would feel a lot more comfortable with it laying flat.

I'll still hope HORI will make a nice high-quality portable dock.

u/juicyjames · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

At the moment, no. However, Nyko is going to sell a smaller third party dock for $45 in the future! Can't find a release date on their site, but Amazon lists it at $50 on October 3, 2017

u/AdamManHello · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

> Some people like Nyko are engineering their own docks or dongles, but these will only work to charge the Switch or possibly provide ethernet unfortunately.

This is not true. The Nyko dock, unless they are lying to us, will provide TV display out. Directly from the Amazon product description: "Enable TV mode on the Nintendo Switch. Includes an HDMI cable for connecting to any TV on the go."

u/DaReapa · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I understand people are used to third party adapters but they are more commonly problematic and this is coming from someone who has been watching it happen for 20 years working with electronics. Look at the reviews for Nyko on Amazon those issues right at the top are common for cellphones. Many cellphones are not compliant either nor do most third party adapters use "fast" chargers or proper protection to save money and make a cheaper less safe product. Either way its the consumers choice to use an unlicensed product and not the manufactures fault if said product does harm.

u/DejaIntendDrew · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

u/draykow · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I think they're expecting people to buy and use the new battery grips that launch with the game.

I think the product is silly and bad (using disposable batteries to charge a joy-con), but a comfort grip for separated joy-cons would be nice.

Edit: joy-con battery pack

u/Lord_Vius · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

you dont need to use the grip or a pro controller.

u/wdouglass · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I find the "Joycon in each hand" thing to be super uncomfortable -- they don't have enough volume, maybe my hands are too big. They're fine attached to the switch, and i'm really glad that it came with the grip.

Maybe something like this will make them more comfortable -- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071XXXK2X

u/remiarutawa · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

ah okay, i misunderstood. have you thought about these? https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-AA-Battery-Pack/dp/B071XXXK2X

i've also seen people cut up a combined grip and attach them to the individual joy-cons to make a better grip that way.

u/theUnLuckyCat · 1 pointr/splatoon

I use the included wrist strap for a slightly better fit. You could also use the included grip for just the one JoyCon and still use them split. But if I were to buy an accessory, it would be a battery pack for both a heftier controller and the convenience of never having to charge the things attached to the Switch itself (cheap knockoffs also available).

Although the button layout on the Pro is a lot better, so it's great for that (and if there's ever any couch multiplayer).

Someone stated that they preordered an amiibo that they believed to be Female Corrin at GameStop about a week ago. There wasn't a name to the amiibo on their receipt, but they seemed sure that it was Female Corrin, but that was before we found out we were getting two of Cloud and Bayonetta.

There's no way that Target or TRU would get a Bayonetta figure (imo), so Best Buy or Gamestop seems likely. Corrin could go anywhere, but I think that placing Cloud or Bayonetta in stores like GS/BB would possibly get fans of the series to pick them up, even if they don't have a Nintendo console.

EDIT: Actually, it looks like Cloud (or Female Corrin?) may be an Amazon exclusive

I still dont like playing on the switch coming from pc, more of a novelty to me than anything else.

u/Viney1 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I would recommend getting a charging dock for the Joy Con if you'll have more than the base 2 pairs. The only way to charge the Joy Con is to have it connected to the system and in the dock (or the expensive charging grip). With a charging dock like (https://www.gamestop.com/nintendo-switch/accessories/nintendo-switch-joy-con-charging-dock/141872) here, for example, you can pop up to 4 joy con in there easily and charge them at any time.

Also, if they won't be playing the Switch docked and you want extra protection, there is a heavy duty rubberized hard case cover to protect it from drops. https://www.amazon.com/Mumba-Nintendo-Switch-Heavy-Rubberized-release/dp/B071ZRM6C1 <- like the one shown here.

Another thing to mention is that if you're looking for traditional controllers, you could buy 3rd party ones now for much cheaper than the pro controller (although the Pro controller is king). First option could be a cable for $16 that allows you to use your other console controllers with the Switch. https://www.amazon.com/FastSnail-Controller-Converter-Controllers-Compatible/dp/B073ZFPJLQ

The other options are about $30 and luckily come in many styles, but the only caveat is that they are wired, like the one I'll mention next.
https://www.amazon.com/Wired-Controller-Plus-Super-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B075DNGDWM

Aside from that info, only other thing I'd say is that the physical game cartridges are small, about same size as a 3DS cartridge, so you'll have to plan that out accordingly. ;)

Good luck, Santa!

It would bounce around a little if you don't have a grip in there. If you're going gripless then buy the tomtoc case designed for a bare switch:

That's the same case you were looking at but doesn't hold a grip, just the Switch and 10 games. It's a very tight fit and the trade off is how thin the case is.

I'd still recommend the tomtoc + kingtop grip because you'll forget the grip is even on. You don't have to remove it to use any feature of your Switch and it adds a lot of protection.

Along with what Joshua said, I'm a huge fan of Death Squared and Human Fall Flat. I play with friends and we have a blast, we love the humor of the games and are always laughing at what everyone's doing in the games. Puyo Puyo Tetris is a great single or multiplayer puzzle game. Astro Bears Party is a quick, fun multiplayer game, I picked mine up on sale for under a dollar. All offline.

Crash Bandicoot is a difficult 2.5D platformer, if you haven't played and are into that. I like it, some levels do get a bit frustrating. Snake Pass is one of my favorite games, you control a snake and it very much relies on weird controls and puzzles you have to figure out, based on the weird controls. If you like Portal, you'll love Chromagun. It's like Portal but with colors. Celeste is a death-happy, 2D platformer with the difficulty set on hard. If you want a challenge, Celeste is your game. All offline, all single player.

Online - I just started playing Fortnite and Rocket League, both seem pretty fun so far. Fortnite is a free download, too!

I travel a lot and LOVE this case. It's super small, it has 8 game pouches(and you can probably double up games in each pouch
too), hardshell, water resistant, looks nice and sleek, and I feel safe with it. I'm also just not an accessory person though -- I have just my switch, 3 physical games, thumb grips(like these)(totally unnecessary, just a personal preference), a screen protector(I've heard putting the switch in/out of the dock can scratch the screen), and that case. The case also came with an accessories pouch, but I've never used it.

A dock at $60?! Pfft! Try $90 MSRP!

I agree with you one million percent, though. There is NO way the dock is worth nearly $100 after tax.

I have a pre-order in for the Nyko Portable Docking Kit, which I was luckily able to get for $44.99, before the price went up to $49.99.

Honestly, I still think even $45 is high, but I'm much more willing to pay $45 than $90.

If we were dealing with literally any other company, I'd agree that the JoyCons may go down in price as technology improves, demand decreases and manufacturing costs decrease. Since we are talking about Nintendo, though, I really doubt they'll drop the prices... ever.

Just look at how much a new Wii U Pro controller still costs today ($50+), for a "dead" console. I can get a new DualShock 4 on Amazon for less than that every day, often around $39.99.
