My reply to a comment below:

A PNY 512GB micro SD is $350. So for 2 kg worth, it would be ~$1,400,000 and 2.048 Petabytes.

57.97 kB a meme.

4000 SD cards x $350 = $1.4 mil.

2000 g / .5 g = 4000 SD cards

Whoa there, let's clear up some things. SD cards are perfectly fine for MANY reads, and a 128 GB card will be fine for hundreds of terabytes of writes over its lifetime. [This card] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DOB6YW4/) is cheaper than $50 and has better performance than a hard drive.

128 GB is 128 GB +- a few megabytes due to partitioning. You're probably thinking about how hard drives were marketed with misleading SI or "metric" gigabytes which were 10^9 bytes instead of 2^30 . SD typically report using the 2^30 system your operating system uses.

Edit: /u/the_loneliest_noodle is right: That card does not have equivalent read speeds to the typical 5400 rpm drive used in consoles. Those get ~100 MB/s. Consecutive write speeds shouldn't really matter for gaming though. If you really want the best read speeds at that capacity, you have to start paying more like $80: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U77V5KU

this guy has the right idea. but when replacing everything you should highly consider upgrading the components.

hopefully your ipod is a 5th or 5.5 generation ipod classic video.
this is the best ipod classic model to upgrade into a higher capacity ipod (128gb, 250gb, 500gb)

then buy these parts on amazon...

the first item is a 128gb & 256gb mini SD card. this will give you the best/fastest performance possible for the size/price. booting from a flash card will be much noticeably faster than your ipod.

the next item is an SDXC to CF adapter, which will allow you to connect the 128gb SD card onto your 1.8 ZIF.

the third item is the CF to 1.8 ZIF adapter for iPod.

the last item are the tools needed to do everything.

connect it all together and you got yourself a super fuckin cool ipod.

check out amazon and ebay for new cases, faces, whatever. you can even get the aftermarket U2 ipod covers and install them.
ipod motherboard.

cheers.

EDIT: last item is actually a higher capacity battery + tools.

SD and MicroSD are both capable of the same speeds, the only difference is the physical size and the maximum capacity, but performance-wise it's the exact same tech on the inside these days, there's just less of it in micro form. For example, here's a bunch of pro microSD cards pushing 150-250MB/s:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012PKPU5W
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U77V8AM
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U77V5KU
http://a.co/7ASqWUO
http://a.co/bFBzjZu

Super fast pro SD cards in any form factor are stupid expensive though. And you're right about Class 10 too, since it only requires a minimum of 10MB/s to label a card as "Class 10" and is therefore utterly pointless nomenclature these days since even cheapo cards regularly push 50+MB/s now.

Just Google lexar 128gb usb 3.0, first result is Amazon with the product. For some dumb ass reason Amazon doesn't have anyway to share links from within their store app, otherwise I would link it.

For everyone asking about dash cams, here are a couple of links that I think will help. They're really not very expensive and can be installed for free by you if you don't mind a little effort (or a wire to your cigarette lighter), or you can get one hardwired (with the wire tucked away so it's barely noticeable) for $50-$100 from a local car stereo shop. The good thing is they're small and don't really stick out like a GPS, so they're not really going to raise the chances of someone breaking into your car to get at it.

This is a wonderful review site for those of you who like to research things before buying.
Dashcam Talk Forum/Blog

Here's their best value cam in all black from Amazon.

Here's the one I'm using which is just a little more money but also a tiny bit better in quality (you won't notice a huge difference, I just like the style better).

And here's a 32GB microSDHC memory card that you'll need.

To address the question that usually comes up, they record in loops. That means they record in segments of a few minutes (usually 3, 5, or 10 minute files) and then once the card fills up, they start recording over the oldest files first. 32GB is usually enough space for 5 hours of recording. Yes, you can usually click a button if you record something (or get into an accident) that will tag the last file to not ever get recorded over. They do record sound as well. Neither of those have GPS but you can get some more expensive ones that do.

I'd totally recommend getting a dashcam if you're a driver in Houston as if there's ever an accident you're involved in and not at fault, now you have a very good chance at having proof that it wasn't your fault, which can go a loooong way with insurance. Also, you can capture stuff like op here did, along with you know, russian dashcam worthy footage on occasion. :)

I was about to sell mine until i found this, and then hacked it so i could play games off it including emulators for virtually every system up to the PSX

u/vote_me_down · 12 pointsr/wii

You've convinced yourself into $170 and you're not going to listen to reason, so I don't know why you're here.

A used wii with one controller and nunchuck (which come with any Wii, and yes, that includes WM+ - you lose points if the WM+ isn't built in), a used Wii balance board and a 2GB microSD card. And a cheap plastic steering wheel.

So, basically: this. $50. Except that comes with four Wiimotes.

Oh, my bad - a used 2GB microSD card as well. Here a new 8GB one for $6, and that's a bit pricey tbh.

u/Zuthan · 10 pointsr/PSP

Mhm that’s why. I’ll provide the links below to the two things you need. First, I’ll give you the link to the SD card I bought. You don’t need this if you already have a micro SD card you want to use. Now the important thing is this adapter. It allows you to put in a micro SD and put it in the psp.

Micro SD card:

Adapter

Here is another adapter where you can insert two micro SD cards and it will combine them, if that’s something you are interested in. It’s a bit overkill, but that’s what some people want!

Dual adapter

Hope this helps!

u/Quade321 · 9 pointsr/PSP
  • Yes, it's very easy. This looks like an okay guide.

  • Through an emulator, a popular one is gpSP

  • That's covered in the first answer.

  • MediEvil Resurrection, Loco Roco, Burnout Legends, Patapon, Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, Me & My Katamari, etc.

  • It uses a memory card called "Memory Stick Duo," these aren't too horribly expensive, but most anyone here would recommend you get a Micro SD to Memory Stick adapter because they're significantly cheaper. Be mindful, the adapter is paper thin and cracks easily. I'd recommend putting in as much memory as you want and never taking it out.

  • If you've yet to hack your PSP, I would recommend either 6.61 ME-2.3 if you have a PSP-100X, or 6.61 LME-2.3 + Infinity if you have a PSP-200X or higher. It's easy to tell which model you have. Be sure to update to the official 6.61 firmware first. Readme files are included in the downloads. Read them, they will explain exactly what you need to do.
u/IICVX · 9 pointsr/pics

Well that's the thing, isn't it? How do you know that "literally all it is is a charger"?

All it takes is an unpatched physical connection exploit, and Eve has all your e-mails and passwords.

These days, almost every airport has free wifi, and we can make really fuckin' small wifi adapters; you can deploy a bunch of these to an airport lobby, and then remotely update them with all the latest and greatest in firmware hacks at your leisure.

TSA agents get caught stealing shit all the time; what makes you think the electricians who install these things in airports are above suspicion?

I disagree with what he suggested. Lexar provides a MUCH faster one for the same price. About 65% faster than the one he suggested (up to 150 mbps versus 95 mbps), which is faster than 7200rpm HDDs.

Looking around, there seem to be at least three other products:

u/Dropofr3d · 7 pointsr/NintendoNX

I don't think SD cards are too small.

I think the people who would need more than 500GB are in the minority, and that most people would be fine with that much. The PS4 and X1 both have 500GB HDDs and you don't see very many people complain that it's not enough and get a bigger one.

u/spaceballsrules · 7 pointsr/MotoG

The Extreme is better in every way. Faster read/write and optimized for shooting in 4K. It's only $6 more. Just be sure to get the one that is rated U3/A1/V30.

If you do opt for the Ultra, just be sure that it is the one that is rated A1, so it is optimized for use with smartphone apps.

u/guy_incognito225 · 6 pointsr/PokemonROMhacks

If you're looking for one specifically to be used in the GBA slot, I can't help, but if you just want a way to emulate GBA games, DSTwo works.

I've used my DSTwo since 2010. It can play DS, GBA, and GB games (some SNES also I've heard, but I haven't personally tried that). It doesn't need anything in the GBA slot, and it also works with all the systems I've used since (currently on a new 3ds xl).

I bought it for about $60 from dscardshop, but it appears they no longer have a website. It gave options to include an SD card, so I got an 8GB Kingston. I did a quick Google search and I found a place that lists prices and places where you can buy. The DSTwo site doesn't actually sell them.

One other thing to note, I always update the firmware on my original DS, just to be safe. Someone told me to do that, but I'm not sure if it's actually required. I guess just in case Nintendo adds something to a 3DS update that would mess up the card.

Get the new one and buy this: tada!

You can just leave this in your SD card slot and keep your documents and video files on it. That way you get all the features of the newer Mac and the capacity of the old one for only about 30 bucks more than the old one!
The only difference is it won't be as fast as your internal storage, so only put files on it you'd like to keep, but don't need that often.

u/pm1902 · 6 pointsr/nintendo

Transfer speeds can get quite high. Typical speeds are 70+MB/s, with some cards reaching 150MB/s read speeds

And as long as you don't get a cheap counterfit microsd card from Alibaba or something you should be fine.

u/Savanna_INFINITY · 6 pointsr/techsupport

The reason is more complex because of:

-Nowadays SD-card performance is not that great. Even if you got a
SanDisk Extreme 32GB microSDHC UHS-I Card
Internal storage is much faster. (Taking about the high-end smartphones.

Because you can only write or read once at a time and not simultaneously. This is were Universal Flash Storage is better.
And SD-Card storage is used for media like: videos and photos and not apps. (That's the mistake many people make.)

I can't go in full detail right now, but I think this might help also:

Alright I got a technical question.

I ordered a SanDisk Extreme PRO 64GB link

Read: Up to 95MB/s

Write: Up to 90MB/s

So won't this be ideal for a snappy phone speeds from an SD card for both 4k and general use?

---

Compared to the current offer Actual amazon link

The product description doesn't give a clear indication of write speeds (vs the 1st product I listed) but from the useful Amazon Comments I got:

Sequential Read : 45.93 MB/s

Sequential Write : 14.7 MB MB/s

^(thanks /u/ekol for the correct read/write speeds)

So wouldn't the 64gig Extreme pro be ideal for 4k recording and general speediness?

You can get a Patriot LX 128GB card from Amazon ($42.99, free shipping), for less than the cost of Newegg + their shipping for this card.

u/atetuna · 5 pointsr/buildapcsales

The drops this year are back in line with what I think of normal. Unfortunately we're still only at 400GB. It looks like Amazon started selling the 200GB I have in June 2015. Right now it looks like the biggest micro sd card they have is 512GB for $350, which isn't nearly as good as I would have predicted back in 2015.

u/CaspianX2 · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You should definitely look into a decent MicroSDXC card to store digital games, since many of the games worth playing on Switch are only available on the eShop. Plus, you'll want to take advantage of good sales when they come up.

Be sure to get a card from a manufacturer with a good reputation - there are a lot of phony cards out there that claim to be bigger than they actually are.

Here is a decent 128GB card for $18

Here's a 256GB card for $38

Here's a 512GB card for $71

>I think from memory that class 10 cards can cause problems, which is what I had.

That's definitely not true. Class 10 is absolutely preferred over anything lower class. It's not the class that would cause problems… just the specific cards firmware itself. Being class 10 or not doesn't have anything to do with it.

I can't remember where I saw it, but I remember seeing a huge chart that listed SD card compatibility reports with all the different XBMC/Pi distros. Using that chart and my intentions, I decided to purchase this card. I've had zero incompatibilities with it.

u/road_laya · 4 pointsr/Crouton

Do you have a SD card slot?

This is what I use:

u/seifer93 · 4 pointsr/PSP

I have 32 GB and I found myself playing maybe 2 or 3 games at any given time.

SD cards are cheap enough though that there's little point to getting a tiny SD card and having to pull your card in and out every time you want to play something different.

Smaller cards are also ridiculously expensive for what you're getting. A 32 GB Sandisk costs $10.59 or $0.33/GB. An 8 GB Sandisk costs $7.08 or $0.88/GB. You're paying 50% more for a 300% increase in capacity. It's a no brainer.

u/SnuffleGrabAPuss · 4 pointsr/gaming
u/JoeyBlaze · 3 pointsr/PSP

This doesn't say what class the memory cards are. If they're class 2 (which they prob are) it may not work for him. As well as a memory card to install the operating system (this one was perfect because it's a 2 in 1)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00200K1TS

The OS I used is raspbian and can be dled for free.
I hooked up the pi to my tv via hdmi cable and used a wireless usb keyboard and mouse for it.
Downloaded the offline files from bitaddress.org and transfered them to the raspberry pi via usb drive.
I could then open the site on my tv screen and generate a private and public key which has never touched the Internet. Wrote them down in a notebook and that's basically the only place the private key exists. I could then send Bitcoin to the public address and the network recognizes and records this. It's pretty wild that the network knows a public key is real even though it's never been online. I guess that's the magic of cryptography. The only way I could use the funds is if I load up the private key into an online wallet but then it will no longer be completely secure.
Here's a pic I took while setting it up feeling like Neo: http://i.imgur.com/zkYuWOa.jpg

u/minimalillusions · 3 pointsr/gaming
u/BenjaminGeiger · 3 pointsr/photography

I'm in the habit of formatting my SD cards after every import, so a text file on the card is not particularly feasible. (Maybe that's a feature to suggest for Magic Lantern?) Instead, I just replace the existing label with a new, printed label containing my phone number and an address (my dad's).

If I ever lose a card, I don't really care about the card itself; 8GB cards go for about $7 on Amazon, or a bit more at a brick-and-mortar retailer if I need one in a hurry. I just want the images back.

u/Tempest123 · 3 pointsr/PSP

Your in luck. Amazon is currently having basically half off micros sd cards.
Order this and this and you will have 32gb storage with room to grow for about 30 dollars.

u/Honey_Bunches · 3 pointsr/cringe

You can get a PSP 3000 used and in great condition on ebay for as low as $60. If you don't care about finding the best deal, you could easily find one at an average price of $80. From there, you can go on Amazon and get a 32 GB memory stick in the form of a dual-adapter that combines two 16 GB microSD cards into one stick. Even if you stop playing your PSP, you'll still have two 16 GB microSD cards to use for a phone, camera, computer, etc.

Anyways, so it'll come out to about $100. I've done software mods for a fair amount of electronics and I have to say that the PSP is by far the easiest. It's an extremely fast and simple mod that can be reversed at any time by simply restarting the system. It can then be reapplied by running a file that literally just restarts the console as modded.

You can play NES, SNES, GB, GBA, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, Sega CD, PSP, PSX, and more. I played a bunch of GBA, GB, and SNES games on mine and they all ran flawlessly. You can keep the games at their original resolution, fit it to screen, stretch it, or anything else you want. It's awesome. You can even play PSX games perfectly. I played a bunch of Vagrant Story, Chrono Cross, and Tomba. Don't forget that you can obviously play anything in the PSP library too. They're uploaded all over the place and you literally just copy/paste them into the Games folder on your memory stick, and they run perfectly.

Seriously, if you want to play emulators on-the-go or even chilling on your couch, get a PSP 3000 on ebay. The screen is nice and big, the buttons are comfy, and everything is simple when it comes to software modification. Here's the basic mod. For $100, it's an awesome setup and I highly recommend it.

Edit: I almost forget to mention that you can use a computer monitor as the display for the PSP if you want. I never cared to, so I can't say whether it's simple to set up or comfortable.

u/Viscerae · 3 pointsr/CrazyIdeas

>not economically feasible

Holy crap, you weren't kidding. And that's WITH a $200 discount!

I still think the storage space is the least of your problems if you're trying to fit GC capability into such a small package.

EDIT: And GC games aren't 1GB a pop, they're more like ~1.3-1.4GB, so you'd need the full terabyte.

u/Skandranonsg · 3 pointsr/AskTechnology

What is this other device? The only way I could imagine this working is if you made the SD card a shared network drive and this other device was capable of that sort of thing.

As for a physical adapter, if the other device is USB capable, you can always toss it in an external card reader. That way you're plugging/unplugging the cable instead of the card itself.

One other option is This little doohickey that automatically syncs items on the SD card through WiFi to a PC.

well ps1 and ps2 games have no copy protection really, if your making a backup, imgburn will do, just make bin/cues for playstation and i would go with iso's for ps2, the only reason why i say Bin/cue is that in retroarch medafenpsx (or whatever its called) will only do bin/cue files. if your going for accuracy read at a slow speed, and maybe do multiple dumps and compare using a checksum, but i think thats unnecessary. if a dump doesnt turn out right and you find it later you can always go back to that disc and dump it again.

for dumping xbox or xbox 360 games if you want iso's, theres ways to do it by using a dummy dual layer dvd and hotswaping before dumping with imgburn. although if the console you already have has homebrew i would check as there might be a way to dump the disc with the system and that would give the best results.

a modded wii can dump gamecube and wii games, so that would be the best bet for that. same with a psp, a modded one can dump the games directly to the memory stick, i picked up a photofast converter, that allows 2 regular sd cards to fit in the psp instead of the memory stick.

i have 2 16gb sd cards giving me 32gb of space on my psp, more then enough for all the games i have, plus emulators. there are people who have used 2 32gb sd cards and even reports of people using 2 64gb cards, so if you wanted every game on your psp you can do so pretty easily.

and yes fusion will play sega cd games, just define the bios in the config.

as far as cartridge based games, it might be better just to download the ones you have, and do that instead of dumping them yourself. they're super small and the hardware needed can be expensive just to get the exact same rom file you can find online.

u/Checksum_Error · 2 pointsr/psphacks

Disregard my comment, I read too fast and didn't see the GO after psp.

You need a cr photosmart adapter or something similar that will take the micro sd. It is the shape of the pro duo card for your psp.

https://www.amazon.com/PhotoFast-CR-5400-MicroSD-Adapter-Dual/dp/B001B6EAOY

Edit: Obviously shop around on amazon or your preferred online store, I just provided this link to show what it is, the price is ridiculous. I got one for about 6 bucks from amazon, I would suggest buying a few, as you might get one that doesn't work.

What you do is put the card in the adapter, then in the psp, then using the psp's xmb, format the card from the handheld itself. It will set the card up for you to then hook up to a pc to transfer files to it.

I have 2 16 gb cards (1 adapter takes 2 cards) for a total of 32 gb on my psp 3000.

Good luck.

There are pretty much no wrong SD cards as long as they are normal sized. So people say they run into issues with SDHC cards but I have a 32GB card and it works perfectly. Here is just an example but any SD card with 1GB+ size should work: https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-microSDHC-Class-Memory-SDC4/dp/B00200K1TS/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1537464388&sr=1-2&keywords=sd+card&refinements=p_89%3AKingston

u/bengineering101 · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

I think you'll have a hard time finding a kit that just includes an SD card and power supply. Most of the kits on Amazon include the Raspberry Pi itself. There's an Adafruit accessory kit that doesn't include the Pi, but has a case and a bunch of other stuff that it sounds like you don't want.

There are a bunch of options to buy individually though. Here are just a few:

  • SD cards, power supply and USB cable from Adafruit (note that they sell the wall adapter and cable separately, normally these are sold together)

  • SD card and power supply from Amazon.

If you are comfortable installing the operating system yourself (it's not that hard at all, just follow the directions here), it might be cheaper to just get a blank SD card, I'm not sure.

For the record I have this SD card and this power supply from Amazon and haven't had any issues. No guarantees that they're the cheapest/best options though.
u/TallE74 · 2 pointsr/PSP

you have to get Duo Pro with MicroSD slots adapter. They do sell those where you can insert 2 MicroSD 32GB each into one Duo Pro adapter Example : https://www.amazon.com/MicroSD-Memory-adapter-microSD-microSDHC/dp/B004GXKI04

u/khedoros · 2 pointsr/emulation

I went with an adapter with 2 slots, and it actually seems to do something similar to RAID-0 (striping), so it ends up with double the performance that 2 cards would have (tested that against a 1-card adapter that I bought before).

You're also better off going with a Sandisk at class 4 speed. In my experience, class 6 and up don't handle small data transfers as well, but class 4 should give more performance than class 2.

A Sandisk Class 4 microSDHC isn't going to cost you much more, but you should be able to squeeze a better speed out of it.

u/suaav · 2 pointsr/PSP

But the do sell micro sdhc to pro duo adapters. I'm expecting this one (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004GXKI04/ref=ya_aw_oh_pit) this week

I assure you that you have linux devices in your house.

I just found out I have an SD card that runs linux. This guy. Something like 95% of wireless routers run linux. Nearly all "smart" tv's or any tv that has a fancy interface of any sort runs linux. Tesla's cars run linux. It's really ubiquitous. You probably use it every day and don't know it.

u/skooter210 · 2 pointsr/technology

An alternate option might be this: Transcend 32 GB Wi-Fi SDHC Class 10 Memory Card (TS32GWSDHC10) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A659ILQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PHb1Cb58KGVX2

It’s a WiFi card, that once setup is able to transmit over WiFi to a computer instead of taking the card out at all. I don’t have a lot of experience with these, but I’ve heard ok reviews about them.

u/similardilemma · 2 pointsr/3DS

Busybox is actually used in a ton of places you might not expect. If you have a linux-based router, NAS, smart TV etc. they're probably using busybox, rather than GNU coreutils. Here is an SD card that has a built-in busybox/linux system with a wifi chip. Roku boxes use busybox. Busybox is everywhere. Android actually uses something called toolbox. Power users tend to supplement it with busybox, since toolbox doesn't do much. There are also entire (tiny embedded) linux distros that use busybox, since they keep their entire root filesystem in the initrd. On top of that, the majority of typical GNU/Linux distros actually use an initrd that uses a root filesystem that contains busybox, which does some initial setup on the system before doing a pivotroot to the real root filesystem (which uses GNU coreutils). This includes Debian (and Debian derivatives, such as Ubuntu), Red Hat and Fedora and their derivatives (such as CentOS), Gentoo, and Arch. Based on this, I'd say there are more instances of busybox out there then there are of GNU coreutils.

There aren't any complete replacements for GNU coreutils that I know of. The heirloom project was meant to be a replacement, but it hasn't seen much activity in a couple years. BSDs utils aren't that portable, from what I understand. Toybox is similar to busybox (small, single binary, basic functionality), but it doesn't have the dev community that busybox has. For a ton of use cases, however, busybox is more than enough, and much much smaller.

u/theproftw · 2 pointsr/Dashcam

Get this one (G1WH) instead if you can. It's a bit more discreet and it comes with a 1 year warranty. I have that exact one and it's been great.

In terms of MicroSD, Transcend is the way to go,

I have not had much opportunity to check the files (only one day of driving, ~20min) but so far all files are readable. I will post another follow-up after continued testing @ 1080 and 720p (for /u/cdude).

I bought one a couple months ago and I love it. I've actually recorded one accident at an intersection already (luckily not my own) and was able to offer the footage to those involved and the police if they needed it. After doing some research I heard a lot of good things about the G1W. There are knockoffs, but the one I got from "Black Box" on amazon appears to be legit. I got the "stealth" one as well for less glare from it. Here's the links to everything you need it you want to pick up a good one for a good price:

We were in all sorts of sandy places - deserts, dunes and beaches. Just to warn you - all my gear survived, but some sand definitely got into things. On my A7rII, a couple of the buttons got a little mushy (still worked but the tactile feedback wasn't the same).

I bought the canakit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C6EQNNK/

It has a case, but doesn't have an SD card. I bought this SDcard:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DOB6Y5Q/

Whatever sdcard you get you'll want a UHS-I Class 10 card. Buying an 8GB card doesn't save you that much money though. For example https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-MicroSDHC-Standard-Packaging-SDSDQUAN-008G-G4A/dp/B00M55C0VU/

In my opinion it is not worth paying more for a pre-installed sdcard because you can use WinDiskImager to copy the raspbian img file to the card very easily.

u/OpticalNecessity · 2 pointsr/3Dprinting

There's probably a max size it's capable of reading. I recommend you trash the new card they sent. They are all low quality and will ultimately fail. I recommend buying a 4-8gb Micro SD card Class 4 or higher.

Before I ask my question, I want to let all know I have done my research to the best of my abilities, however I am terrible when it comes to tech specs, so I am asking. I am going to retransfer my data back from the 2ds XL to my 3ds XL. But before I do, I want to upgrade the SD card in the 3DS XL which is the stock one. I just want something like 8GB or 16GB (I have a lot of physical cartridges). Go online and I find this. However, I am confused on 2 parts.

  1. Does a class 10 mean the console will load faster, load the games faster even if I am using a physical cartridge? (also what does that "I" next to the HC mean?)

  2. So when I want to swap the SD cards, I just stick the new SD card in and do the transfer. Is that correct?

Oh, and if this is a good or bad option for an SD card, please let me know!

Edit: Any thoughts on this brand?
u/nzana · 2 pointsr/computers

I would say if all you're doing is learning programming, picking up something like a raspberry pi (Vilros Raspberry Pi 3 Basic Starter Kit, Black Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DMFQZXK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_IX0vybT6PS3R4 + some sort of micro SD card like SanDisk Ultra 8GB Class 10 UHS-I MicroSDHC Memory Card with Adapter, Grey / Red, Standard Packaging (SDSDQUAN-008G-G4A) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M55C0VU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_FY0vybA14CAK5) is your best bet. The rest of your money can go into programming classes. If your interested in more courses, khanacademy.org has my favorite HTML + CSS + JavaScript courses, and upskillcourses.com just made their Ruby on Rails course free. Just saying, that's an amazing load of information for free that you can do all on your raspberry pi.

u/Chevaboogaloo · 2 pointsr/technology

You can use external hard drives as well. If you're like me and manage to corrupt SD cards a third of the time then this may be a better option.

Edit:
You could get an 8GB card with a 1TB HDD for $61.94. Granted it is $20 more but that's almost 10 times as much storage.

I've done the installation twice using those steps and haven't run into a problem yet. The only thing I didn't do was the very last sync command since the archlinuxarm website didn't list that. (I'm super noob so I just follow the instructions to the letter.)

I'm hoping you just have an sdcard type/brand that the odroid just doesn't like as opposed to having a bum board. But you stated that you replaced the sdcard already. This is the sdcard I'm using.

I recently got mine as well so I don't know if not having an sdcard gives any sort of post messages but I guess that's something you can try.

u/DarkStarrFOFF · 2 pointsr/AndroidQuestions

the files are on my internal storage. well the ones that it downloaded to start the installation. it seems it will use the external storage as a buffer.

this is a link to the amazon page for the sd card: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SNLIG5O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 if you scroll down to the comments, people posted the writte and read speeds. its the post with the images.

> Also, according to this review "the right side of this notebook houses a USB 3.0 port". Why are you not using a USB 3.0 device to update?

i didnt try it because i use the sd card as a secondary storage, its where i keep all the stuff. also i had forgotten it was a usb 3 since its always so slow. i just checked it and now it goes like triple its usual speed. it seems the factory reset i did helped it. i will try using a usb 3 and see how it goes. thanks!

Got this Patriot 128GB microSDXC working in my XT1528: http://amzn.com/B00SNLIG5O Just had to format it through the phone which formatted it as FAT32.

Pretty sure you won't notice a difference with a faster card on this phone... please correct me if I'm wrong!

u/YokohamaFan · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You are linking the SDXC version.

The MicroSDXC variation is way more expensive. It's essentially double the price and that's not even the fast type. To get the variation with 270MB/s transfer speeds, you will have to shell more than thrice the price of a 128GB UHS-I Class 3.

In any case, I doubt UHS-II will make it to the Switch. However, if the internals remain modular like the prototype shown in the pictures, people might mod it with faster interfaces.

u/downshiftnow · 2 pointsr/Surface

Read speed wise, most microSD cards are comparable so if that's your only concern, the 200gb SanDisk Ultra is your best bet. If you care at all about write speed, you should look elsewhere. Also, be wary of UHS-II spec cards that claim 150mbps read speed (along with a laughable 20mbps write) that require an adapter to achieve such speeds such as this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U77V5KU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_ep_dp_5BxzybEV9MBMT

If you're looking for the best microSD hands down, it's the Samsung 256gb EVO+. MSRP is $249 and Amazon has it for $139. Quite the bargain. A ton are in the wild considering that many people such as myself chose this as the freebie for purchasing a Note7 (or S7/S7 edge). https://smile.amazon.com/Samsung-256GB-EVO-UHS-I-microSDXC/dp/B01JNGCWHU/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483139819&sr=1-6&keywords=evo%2B+256

If you're looking to spend a bit less and can do with half the storage, the Samsung 128gb PRO Select is your next best bet. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01DOB6YUQ?ref=emc_b_5_t

Both of those cards are rated at 90mbps write and read with real life usage hitting within a couple mbps of that.

u/bws2a · 2 pointsr/windowsphone

The price on that 200 GB card is appealing, but I've seen others in this sub make similar complaints. I'm hoping this one will work better, since it is faster even than the 200. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00U77V5KU/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Hello friends,

I'm getting my first new 2DS XL and was hoping for some recommendations on SD cards. I was looking at the following:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWN9Q99/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JWXGNT/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was looking at these two things, although the official Nintendo site recommends the Sandisk Extreme which is:

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-microSDHC-UHS-I-SDSQXAF-032G-GN6MA/dp/B06XWMQ81P/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1509988553&sr=8-3&keywords=32+gb+sandisk+extreme+micro+sd+card

but it's slightly more expensive than the original Sandisk one I posted so if the original one works, I would rather go with that.

But those were my ideas. Maybe if someone has a better recommendation or can confirm these are the best ways to go? Also, I notice that people are using even bigger cards as long as they're formatted properly, is there a recommendation for those and how hard would it be to reformat it properly? It sounds way more convenient than having multiple 32gb cards to swap!

Thanks again!

u/DesignNomad · 2 pointsr/gopro

The SDSQXAF-032G-GN6MA and SDSQXAF-064G-GN6MA are the same card in different capacities. Amazon lists the card by the 64GB SKU, but you can select the 32GB in the listing, which is the one GoPro has on its approved list for Hero7 Black. Either should be just fine.

The Go requires an M2 memory card, which maxes out at 16gb from what I've read, giving a combined maximum of 32gb. Non-Go PSPs, on the other hand, can use one of these these babies along with a couple of standard micro-SDHC cards, for a combined maximum total of 128gb.

I got a couple of 32gb cards, so now I'm rolling with 64 gigs of space.

Get the Acer C7 Chromebook for $199.00.

Then buy an SD card for less than $10.

Finally, go to this website that specializes in turning a raspberry pi into an emulation station. There's instructions on how to turn the SD card into the emulation station on there.

You should be able to use that WITH the chromebook for everything you've said you want. Brand new awesome chromebook and an all in one emulation system for less than $210.

This one? I ask because I had some problems early on with memory cards not being fast enough. The 95mb/s ones were the only ones I could get to work. That being said, don't give up hope, because that was a while ago. Blackmagic recently released an update that unlocks ProRes 422, LT, and Proxy recording, so it might work perfectly fine if you take it down a notch from ProRes HQ. You can tell if the card is not fast enough because it will either not recognize the card at all, even if it's formatted correctly, or the REC indicator will start flashing while you're recording. That means it has dropped a frame.

u/ChristopherOrChris · 1 pointr/3DS

Here is the one I bought which is cheaper and the same size. Since the speed doesn't really matter for the 3DS, it's probably best to avoid "premium" cards.

There is also /u/stkj's recommendation which is cheaper than mine.

There are also SD cards with integrated Wifi (I'm not kidding) that automatically upload images. These must be popular with photjournalists: Notice that this particular card is commonly bought with a CF adapter, since most professional DSLRs use CF cards instead of SD.

No. And I haven't heard good words about them, although I haven't heard anything bad as well. But I do use one of their 64GB card in my camera.

But I'd personally suggest you to get a Micro SD card that's well that's well known in the phone community at least. SandDisk, Transcend, Samsung all works well. I personally got this and it's working pretty well. http://smile.amazon.com/Transcend-MicroSDHC-Class10-Adapter-TS32GUSDU1E/dp/B00CES44EO/

u/Elaboration · 1 pointr/3DS

I purchased this last night (Transcend 32GB MicroSDHC Class10 UHS-1) after doing some research of my own.

It seems to be out of stock now, but it cost ~$14usd, compared to the $17 Sandisk or $18 Samsung cards I was looking at)

Reasons for choosing these three products:

  • I know the 3ds can handle up to 32GB natively, and potentially unlimited capacity if you format to FAT32, but I wanted something that worked out of the box and didn't require me reformatting to something nonstandard (I'm not the most knowledgeable about these things).
  • 32GB is way more than I will ever need. I've had my classic 3ds for years now, and I've only used 6GB out of my 8GB card.
  • Most online links say the 3DS doesn't have UHS support, but I figure this product guarantees Class 10 speeds if it's advertising a higher speed. Plus it was cheap enough for me not to mind overpaying a dollar or two.

>Is there a cloud solution? Something that iTunes can "see" as if it were a drive on my physical machine?

Yes, but it will be expensive and slow. You want online storage that's accessible as "WebDAV", which means you can connect to it like an external drive.

Many storage providers only provide syncing, not WebDAV access. For example DropBox/Google Drive/OneDrive/etc can't be used this way.

Box supports WebDAV with their paid plans, but their personal plans seem to top off at 100 GB (for $10/month)

Here's a random list of other cloud providers that support WebDAV: http://www.free-online-backup-services.com/features/webdav.html

Speed, pricing, security, and terms of service vary. As a random example, OpenDrive gives you "unlimited" storage for $12.95/month.

Of course, accessing your iTunes library over the internet is going to be way slower than accessing it locally. Hard drives are 100 MByte/second, which is 800 Mbit/s. Your internet is probably under 50 Mbit/s; cable modems are usually 30 Mbit/s and DSL is usually 6 or 15 Mbit/s.

I really doubt using online storage for iTunes would be faster or more convenient than just plugging in an external drive.

By the way, an "external drive" can be an SD card that stays in your SD card slot. A 256 GB SD card is under $100. ($96.99 at the moment). That's probably your best option.

u/tristard · 1 pointr/dreamcast

It works! Although GDMENU gets confused when you have more than 64 folders on the SD card (goes out of sync) but with 64 games it works great (i just renamed the other folders for the time being). It is possible to play all the games but then you will have to push the button on the GDEMU manually to select a game, but pressing that button 200 times to select a game is not really convenient. More folders will probably be supported in the next version of GDMENU.

Sandisk have just been bought out by Western Digital, and I hear that they're going to be announcing new lines of flash storage in the coming months. Not sure if it will be at CES, but might be worth waiting to see what happens.

Amazon do seem to have a few in stock, and Sandisk are selling the 32gb directly but the price is extortionate.

u/illuxion · 1 pointr/MotoX

Storing apps on the SD card with Marshmallow, having at least decent read speeds are important. This is with one of the faster cards around, a Sandisk Extreme Pro, that has no problem getting about 90MB/s read and write in my laptop, but isn't quite as fast in the X. I opted for that card over a 128G card because of the speed, there are no 128s that fast yet. The closer to the stock memory speed it is, the closer to being transparent it will be.

Fair point. I have ~150GB of music on my computer... Though, I never listen to most of it. It's a library is what it is. My mother lost an Eric Clapton CD, and from then on, I told her (and anyone else), I'll back it up and burn another one. So everyone wanted me to rip their CDs... Yeah, it was pretty awesome. On my phone I have... 10.78GB of music. Still, products like this exist (Amazon link, no referral) so if I wanted to carry all the songs, it wouldn't be hard.

Never had an iPod. When the 20GB iPod came out (B&W, click wheel), the 40GB Creative Zen Touch (strip, not screen) was $20 less. I got that... and it still works... and I have no idea what to do with it. Wife says I can't give it away because she loves it (it kept us entertained on long car rides before the smartphone revolution). But she doesn't use it either, even though her 16GB Moto X doesn't have a microSD slot... I'll never have a smartphone with less than 32GB and lacking a microSD slot.

this is an older card that offers only 45MB/s reads. if you go far back in amazon reviews you can see people testing them and having slow speeds at 45MB/s and some reviews state that the write speeds were bad often dropping like a rock.

You really want to invest in a good card . I own this one

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Select-Memory-MB-ME128DA-AM/dp/B01DOB6YW4/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8

if you scroll down to customer images you can see someone was nice enough to benchmark it . He was getting 92.5MB/s sequential reads and 25.26 writes. That and the 512k scores 84/45 respectively are the most important.

I recommend you don't buy anything because we don't know what the switch can take advantage of. So here is an expensive card that I use in my surface pro 4
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U77V5KU/ref=twister_B00WECRAF0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

This is double the price of the first card I linked for the same capcity. Its sped ? 150MBs/ 55/ MB a second. The problem is the need for a UHSII card slot.

So like I said don't go out and buy until you know. I know for me I rather have faster loads than more storage. I will always have a case with me so I can always keep multiple micro sd cards

Writes should not be that important since games will only really write to save and when downloading games you may be limited by your connection anyway.

I heard of a Kingston one for 512 GB as well but haven't found it for sale anywhere.

256Gb ones should be pretty easy to find. If performance matters to you Samsung and Sandisk are the most reliable in read/write speeds actually hitting the threshold.

u/coromd · 1 pointr/raspberry_pi

Just out of interest, why not invest $70 in a 200gb microSD card (or $200 in a 512gb SD card and a microSD-SD cable if your wallet is limitless) and skip the HDD altogether? Lowers power consumption by a large amount and lowers the complexity and footprint and increases durability by removing the moving parts.

Also here's this chart about SD card compatibility with RPis

Also for syncing music I'm sure you can run an FTP server on the Pi0W and use that to synchronize music. Or if you're using a large microSD card you use the OTG port in gadget mode and set it up to let your Pi act as a USB drive (http://blog.gbaman.info/?p=699 and http://blog.gbaman.info/?p=791 though you'll need to find tutorials specifically for g_mass_storage/g_acm_ms/g_multi. Could be lots of fun if you use g_multi for g_ether and g_mass_storage and rig something up to automatically download more music when connected to your laptop. ^Though ^I ^guess ^that ^could ^also ^be ^done ^over ^WiFi... ^^nvm ^^then

Basically I know that UHS-1 is recommended for Switch and I know that I want 128GB (fits my needs and price range) but I'm stuck on a few and don't know the best option to go with. The three I'm stuck on are [this one by SanDisk] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010Q57S62/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_EanpzbQDF9ND9), [this one by Samsung] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWZWYVP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_0dnpzbQ51XVD3), and [this one by LEXAR] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012PLSIJ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XenpzbHA5EX24).

All help is appreciated! And if you can, please explain why I should go with the card you recommend over the other two. Thanks!

u/jimbo831 · 1 pointr/Lyft

Yeah, that would be awesome if you could send the one you use. I'm always worried I won't have noticed it is frozen and miss recording something important. I keep a push pin in my car to reset it when I do notice.

A Samsung was actually the first one I used that froze all the time. I even got the really nice one that met all of Transcend's requirements.

Currently I'm using this Lexar 633x. One thing I read is that Samsung doesn't provide warranty support when you use theirs in a dash cam while Lexar still does, and some people recommended this one on the dash cam sub. I've not had great luck with either. I guess maybe my cam is the problem but it never freezes with the card that came with it.

To be fair, I can't say for sure they were both formatted in FAT32, but that's what I thought they came with. I should try reformatting my card to be sure.

  • 128 GB Micro SD Card - for downloading eshop and future VC games
  • Travel Case - to keep my baby safe
  • And eventually a power brick, once I read some reviews with the Switch and which ones are the best

If you were looking to spend a little more then the YI Action Camera works pretty good. I personally use it on the trails and it works well.

Along with the camera I would get the Proshot Helmet Mount System if it works with your helmet. I also use this on the trails and it hasn't moved at all since I put it on due to the heavy-duty velcro they use (I've also crashed a couple times while it was on and it hasn't budged). The chin mount also has no wind resistance, so when going fast speeds your head wouldn't get pulled to a side and branches wouldn't knock it off your helmet.

A Sandisk Extreme MicroSD is what I use and it is fast enough to do 1080p 60fps.

Overall this would cost you ~$140 for all three items. The camera also comes with a free battery offer on amazon so you would have two batteries to get you through a couple riding sessions. (Each battery lasts a little more than an hour)

Here is some footage at 1080p 60fps

u/ZaBbeast · 1 pointr/zabbix

It was around 130 value per sec.

Storage is the main bottleneck, you need a fast SD card.

I m using SanDisk Extreme 32GB:

u/mandudebreh · 1 pointr/Dashcam

Keep in mind that many cameras can only handle a a max of 32 gb class 10 micro SD card. I'd recommend getting this SanDisk Extreme 32 gb. Even if you're worried about longetivity, getting a few replacements will still be cheaper than a $40 SD card.

You can't beat that price and the longevity on these is great. I've had several over the last 2 years and one that's in my GoPro since 2012!
