Seems like it'll always give a quick indication of the time down to the 1/6 of an hour since the tens digit isn't changing.

I'm fine with that trade for style.

Seems like this is a collector's item now, $55 for one online and it was actually officially licensed Tetris merch.

  1. Declutter

  2. Get some frosted window film and apply it to the glass doors in your desk cabinets. That way you can hide away your clutter without anyone seeing it.

  3. Whatever the ribbons and stuff on the wall are, they need to be moved. You might consider putting a big slab of cork board where they are hanging too...to give you a spot to attach important papers, reminders, photos etc etc

  4. Your bookshelf is overloaded at the top, and virtually empty at the bottom. Evenly distribute the weight so that the boards don't sag. Fill in any extra space on the shelfs with the knick knacks that are currently cluttering your desk.

  5. mount a hook somewhere to hang your earphones

  6. Consider getting a monitor mounting arm for your PC monitor. The Amazon Basics Single Arm monitor mount is 100 bucks, but its built like a tank. Being able to move the monitor and have it floating gives you more usable desk space and it would allow you to move your monitor directly in front of your webcam in case you needed to show someone something on the monitor during a video chat.

  7. I would consider replacing the desk lamp with something that puts all the light directly on the desk. You have a floor uplight in the background giving you plenty of indirect light. You don't need to stare at a lit up globe all day on your desk too
u/IllTakeOutTheTrash · 101 pointsr/TikTokCringe

To anyone that has an unfrosted window in their shower, you can buy window frost film. Been there, done that.

No kidding. I'd hate to live next door to these two.

OP, you seem to think the barking is cute for reasons that aren't clear to me. If you change your mind, this stuff can be hugely helpful for managing dogs barking at stuff outside.

My favorite alarm clock design is one that, if you wait too long to hit snooze, launches a disk into the air, and the only way to turn the alarm off is to re-insert the disk.

Although it has really shitty reviews, lol

And then there's this one that jumps off your nightstand and rolls around the room until you catch it and turn it off o.-;

u/mattr254 · 40 pointsr/oddlysatisfying

Pretty neat but it's over 90 bucks here

u/Snotbob · 37 pointsr/androidapps

Sounds like a lot of goddamn control over my phone being given to an alarm clock. That permission list is full of a whole mess of things I don't generally feel comfortable existing inside a solitary app, especially one that's meant to serve such a simple purpose.

You want an obnoxious but effective alarm clock that doesn't require a crazy amount of control over your phone? Try something like Clocky. That wandering asshole does a great job of prying you out of bed & pissing you off early in the morning.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I could never bring myself to trust an app like this.

For your wife [Original Blackout Pleated Paper Shade Black, 36" x 72", 6-Pack] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000SDROMG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_bbO7q7KNekFUY)

Super inexpensive, blocks light. I have them in almost every window of my apartment.

u/Ozilline · 28 pointsr/JUSTNOMIL

My suggestion doesn't help with your larger problem, but I hate thinking of you having to be in the dark all the time.

Have you thought of installing window film? I have this on a large window that faces my neighbor's house - it lets a lot of light in but still gives me privacy: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007RCX088

It's really easy to put up and it's non-adhesive so it won't damage the windows or leave any residue when you want to remove it. It also comes in patterns and stained-glass if you want something prettier.

During the day, your apartment will be dimmer than outside, so she won't be able to see in. At night I think at most she'd be able to see silhouettes, but you'd probably want your blinds closed at night anyway.

They are. See them here.

>Every autumn my family chooses a new ornament to go onto our holiday tree. This year it was between this ornament and another one that is less flashy, less gaudy, and just overall nicer. During our family meeting we overwhelmingly chose the other ornament but somehow we still ended up with this one. We're not sure what happened.

You've got a motion light; that's the first thing. If you can't replace that chain link, maybe you can get those wood slats that you insert into each column that give some tiny bit of privacy?

But I'm guessing privacy doesn't matter (that much) here. They jumped a fence to get in. They risked the light being on. They're bold. A block fence would be better, but other options are probably needed.

Another thing; get a shade, not blinds. Blinds have holes, people can see through (if they're close enough). Get something that is solid, blocks the whole thing. Shades are good (if they cover the whole thing, no gaps... mount them outside the window casing, making them wider. Home depot has cheap shades, I think $12 or something? Ikea has slightly nicer ones, maybe more like $30.

You can also go with window film: http://www.amazon.com/Non-Adhesive-Frosted-Privacy-Window-Film-/dp/B007RCX088/. That'll give light & privacy all the time, and if you do it right no gaps. You can easily remove later. I'd still use shades/curtain too. At night they can see light/shapes, but nothing else.

Another thing; motion-activated doorbell. You could use this: http://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-RCWL300A1006-Premium-Portable-Wireless/dp/B001CMLAZ4/ along with something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-RCA902N1004-Wireless-Motion-Detector/dp/B001G0MB4Q/. It'll ding (or beep, or chime, etc) whenever something trips the motion detector in back. Cover the LED on the motion detector, no need to give away its position. You can fairly easily hide the detector; it's a little bulky, but tuck it in a corner w/o lights.

Last; IP camera. Wired (ethernet + POE) is good. If you can't, then wireless. You'll still need power, but you can probably use an extension cord along with some cord holders (like http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/productImages/300/5b/5b68fca9-fb31-4ed6-a6c9-807b51a09a5c_300.jpg). You can also get power extension cables (for the tiny DC power to the camera). Distance may be a problem with those, have to try it out.

You can use motion detection on the camera itself to email you. Set the email to your phone's SMS / MMS email address, you'll get a text when it detects motion. Maybe even a pic (not sure if that'll work as an attachment).

You can get foscam; they're cheap, they work, they're not great. Others are better, but more expensive. Best I've found (for cheap & decent) is the discontinued Amovion C610 (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Support-Onvif-WIFI-HD-720P-Network-1-0-Megapixel-Mini-Wifi-IR-Cube-IP-Camera/1906543251.html). Cheap, but takes a while to ship from China (plus, you're risking dealing with an unknown vendor). Most foscams & that amovision I linked to are indoor cams; rain & temps may kill it. Under an eave, it'll probably survive, but it's just not rated for outdoors. But with no other option, I'd go for it.

Where are you (roughly) located? How tight is your budget? If you had a cam, could you figure out how to set it up? Definitely let me know if you can.

We got the OK to Wake! clock for our not quite 3 year old a few weeks ago and it's a freaking miracle. She only comes out of her room before 7:30am now if she needs to pee (we're just in the early stages of toilet training actually working) and then she goes back into her room to wait for her clock to turn green.

It's also got a nap setting and it's starting to be effective for "quiet/alone/rest time" since she's not really napping every day anymore.

For those curious. And the top review for the lazy...

>My office puts up a tree every year and we pool resources to get a really nice ornament, usually on the pricey side. For example, 8 years ago we got a really nice, hand crafted ornament from Hawaii. We liked it so much, we decided to get another one just like it 4 years later. Well, this year we all got together and chose a sedate, classy ornament from a shop in New York. My New York friends swore by their work and so we voted and chose it.
But then this red and gold POS showed up in the mail and we can't figure out why! We went through the vote hat again and we definitely voted for the New York piece with overwhelming numbers. I'm a bit worried that our manager, who thinks he's special and soooo sELECTIVE, might have gone over our heads and ordered this one instead.

>It turns out we can't get a refund and now we're stuck with the ugly thing. We put it on the side of the tree facing the wall, but it must be bewitched or something because it keeps reappearing at the top of the tree every morning! We found our angel topper in the corner crying. We don't know what happened and she says she's afraid to tell us =/

u/RockyMtnAristocrat · 11 pointsr/wicked_edge

Here's a copy-paste I put together that might be useful.

Equipment Essentials

  • A pro honed razor at your side. You need to compare the sharpness of the razor you're working on, with the sharpness of a razor that is shave ready. This will decrease your learning curve considerably. You're working blind otherwise.

  • DMT flattening stone. Your hones don't ship flat, and you must even them out to ensure a smooth edge. Flattening before every use is a good idea. If you don't want to buy the DMT, use 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper and atop piece of marble/glass.

  • Norton 4K/8K A popular choice for general honing, and can perform a laborious restoration/bevel set (if you do more than a few razors, get the 1k below to set a bevel).

  • A jewelers loop to see what happens to the blade as you hone, polish, stop and shave. I feel watching the scratch patterns of a straight razor bevel change is a critical educational step in straight razor bevel maintenance.

  • Chromium Oxide on a strop for final polish, or a diamond pasted strop.

Honing Supplies for Restoring a Few Straights

  • If you end up honing a few razor from antique stores or ebay, it's good to have a stone dedicated to bevel setting. This stage is 50% of the sharpening process, so it pays to have quality gear at this level King 1000 K For bevel setting on a budget (beware, it's a slow cutter). Or a nice bevel setter like this Chosera.

  • Niawa 12K For a nice final polishing of your razor. 8K is fine, but this puts a great edge on your blade.

    To hone:

First, you need to flatten your stone, making sure you've removed the top 1/64th or so of stone material to reach the true grits (the top is a bit rough on Nortons especially).Make sure your stone is perfectly flat. Use the DMT or the sandpaper I described above for this.

Next, clean your SR in soap/warm water. Dry it, and put a piece of electrical tape along the spine and fold it over (like a book binding) if you'd like (not necessary, and I don't do this, but some prefer the look of the end product).

I like to clear the edge of possible errand burs before I hone, so I drag the shaving edge against my thumbnail or a glass bottle. These burs can cause issues, and may make for a rough feeling edge. I've found that this is a good way to remove them. It may be unnecessary for some/most blades, but it's part of my bevel setting routine, and by doing this, I've notice good things and increased consistency when I hone.

Now, to hone. You're going to get your razor sharp in these stages:

  • Set the bevel (establish the sharp edge shape)
  • Polish the bevel (polish the shape you created earlier)
  • True the bevel (strop the bevel to make sure the edge is very uniform)

    Setting the bevel:

While all steps are important, this step is foundational. Place your razor on your bevel setting stone, keeping the razor spine and edge completely flat on the surface togehter. Do tiny circle strokes (circular motion down the hone) so you do about 30-40 tiny circles as you move own the bottom hone. Repeat on the other side of the razor, moving up the hone in the opposite direction (and counter-wise circle direction). Now do 15 x strokes. This is a set.

Repeat doing these sets until you can shave hair on your arm or leg by very slowly grazing over the tops of the hair - it should catch and cut with a bit of a tug.

It will take many many of these sets with a 4k stone, and less with a 1K.

Once you can shave hair on your arm or leg all along the bevel (toe to heel) with uniform sharpness and cutting, you may be set. Do another 10 or so x-strokes, very lightly, very perfectly as a final sharpening for your bevel. See if this helps your edge.

Once you're happy with your bevel, strop it and shave. If it's painful, it's likely your bevel isn't set. If it's decent, you're ready to move on.

    Polishing the bevel

Now move up to polishing. On the 4K and do 35 light x strokes. Go to the 8K and do 35 light x-strokes. Repeat this back and forth going 4K 30, 8K 30. Now keep this up, decreasing the stroke number by 5. When you're at 10 strokes, just do 25 on the 8K.

Always check for sharpness along the edge by trimming a bit of arm hair. You'll learn a lot from an edge by doing this.

Following the grits up in this fashion should give you a fairly polished bevel. It's best to go higher than 8K with a high grit chinese hone from a woodworking store, or a naninwa 12k, but 8K will do for now.

    Truing the edge:

Strop about 30 passes on your chromium oxide, clean the blade, and the perform 200 passes on leather - all spine leading, done very lightly.

    The Shave

After all this, you should have a great edge. Give it a test shave and compare it to your pro honed blade.

While honing, you'll likely get frustrated, but keep at it! If you're getting aggressive with the razor, just give it a break, and come back later. If the shave is no good, post back here and we'll help you diagnose.

    Some thoughts:

I tired to present information that's very searchable. Straight razor place has archived many of the ideas that I just presented. I highly recommend researching on your own and reaching a personal conclusion. What follows are my personal opinions.

This equipment I suggest is not necessarily the best, nor is it bad at all. It's great way to get started and find out what you like in a stone/routine. Some ideas to consider if you upgrade your set:

  • Try a natural stone for a finisher. I use a vintage Thuringian hone called an Barber's Delight Escher.
  • Upgrade your progression by adding various in-between grits. I really like going from a Chosera 1K, to Shapton Pro (not glass version) 2K, 5K, 8K, 15K, then finish.
  • Try finishing a blade with a pasted strop, and try without. Some love one over the other.

The back and forth honing I recommend is a honing series called pyramid honing, where you go between two different grit hones to ensure you don't form a wire edge or a bur. I like to recommend this for folks getting into honing since this is one of the most documented methods for get a razor to shave ready from a bevel set. A quick google search on pyramid honing will give you plenty of reading. I don't hone this way any more.

I highly recommend honing your razor as sharp as possible on one stone, strop as I've outlined, and give it a shave. For example, sharpen as much as you can at the 4K stage, and strop it 200 times. If it shaves ok, you're on the right track. If not, you've got more work to do at that level of stone. You'll be amazed that such a low grit can shave so well. If it's painful to shave after your lowest stone.... you're not done, and moving up the stones will not benefit your edge. Repeating this process of shaving up all the stone grits (4K, 8K, 12K) will help you get a feel for what honing at the different levels provide. Shaving off my 1K bevel provided me the biggest leap in edge quality while learning.

Don't limit your techniques. Once you can confidently bring a restored razor to shave with consistency, I'd recommend playing around and experimenting. Though this, I've developed some strokes that are critical to my routine, and used effectively with every blade I sharpen.

Make a frame with a bit of thickness. Put a regular mirror on one side. Mount an LED strip along the inside edges of the frame. Get a piece of plexiglass and some one-way mirror film to cover one side of it. Place the plexiglass, mirror-side, towards the real mirror.

u/Droidaphone · 10 pointsr/shrimptank

The two biggest challenges with all-in-one setups for shrimp is light (not enough) and waterflow (too much.) Shrimp really require live plants to thrive, and those plants need enough light to grow. It's hard to judge from pictures, but that tank's light seems like it MIGHT be adequate for low light plants. Shrimp also require very low waterflow. High waterflow will blow them around (they're tiny and light swimmers compared to fish) and they will easily get sucked onto the intakes of most filters. The tank you linked would need some modifications to be suitable for shrimp: at the very least it will need sponges or pantyhose covering the inlet and outlets, and the flow will need to be turned down to the lowest setting, probably.

So, it might work. But if you're interested in shrimp specifically, you might as well spend a small amount extra and build a custom setup that is tailored to them. You'd need:

  • a 10 gal tank (10 gal is cheaper to buy than 5, it's not any more work, and barely any more space.) Check thrift store for this if budget is a concern. You don't NEED a hood, unless you have kids or cats or something.

  • A sponge filter , aquarium tubing, and an air pump. This is the preferred filter type for shrimp. While we're discussing filters, make sure you understand the nitrogen cycle, and the basics of cycling a tank.

  • An aquarium heater and a thermometer. Don't stinge here. Maintaining a stable temperature is key.

  • A nice light. Doesn't have to pricey. A desk lamp and a daylight CFL bulb works great, but LEDs like thisare not much, either.

I think all of that will run you roughly $75, give or take. Obviously, more expensive than the all-in-one, but it would result in a tank that would be easier for a beginner to succeed with.

You'll also need to get some non-equipment essentials, like subtrate for planting in, a test-kit for monitoring your water, and obviously food, and a petri dish for feeding is highly recommended.

Then you can get into plants and stuff. Whew! Sounds like a lot, I guess. It is, but it's worth it, and shrimp are definitely a good place to jump into aquariums.

A few bovida packs to control the humidity:

And any airtight tupperware container. Even one from the kitchen will do the trick. I like these:

For long term storage you may want a hygrometer to monitor the humidity:

And if you want to get fancy and organize with cedar trays, two of these work perfectly stacked in the container above.

We gave my son one when he was about 2.5 years old. We used this one, and it worked very well for him. If we heard him get out of bed early in the morning, we could just yell (from our bed) "Is it green time?" and he would jump back in the bed. He also enjoyed the night light and silly-face features. Around 4 years old we introduced the wake-up alarm as part of teaching him to get himself ready. He figured out the snooze button all by himself. :)

He's 5.5 now, and we recently switched him to this wake-up clock that shows the digital time and an analog clock face together to help him learn to tell time.

Neither are cheap, but they work well and will last a long time. We passed the first one along to a nephew and expect it will be passed around to a few more kids before it's done.

u/someshmo · 8 pointsr/malelivingspace

With the current setup, I'd consider moving that Aeon F. print (!) to the wall with your Kesey poster print. Awesome wall art, btw. I'd put a floating wood shelf on the TV wall, painted off-white to match your baseboards and that Hudson Bay Point blanket. I'd stick a small row of vintage paperbacks on it and a couple bookshelf speakers for the oncoming record player. Bluetooth to avoid the wires, if possible.

I'd put the turntable on a small stand on the right, below the art, utilizing that plug. Or I'd get a new console with clean lines that takes up most of the TV wall and can accommodate both.

I'd say you need a bigger rug, partly tucked under the sofa. Some sort of 'faded navy' seems right to me-- either flatwoven, or a distressed pattern like the current rug. That way you could connect with the beige walls of the unit (the faded), but tie in with the red and yellow of your art and the Hudson throw (navy).

The current format is home office one side, living area the other. Seems like you enjoy reading, and want to collect some records, but don't want to live in a home library. If that's the case, I'd consider media storage on the desk side. You could move the desk a bit and put a row of Kallax behind the sofa. This also would make a surface for reading lamps / plants / decor... or MacBook when sitting at the desk. But it means you're walking in to a wall of books and records.

The other option is to put it on the door wall. This would make the room divide less heavy. Provide an entry surface for keys and mail. And you could move the plants off the sill for easier blinds action. Side note- I'd consider a strip of [privacy film] (https://www.amazon.com/RABBITGOO-Privacy-Frosted-Adhesive-Bathroom/dp/B01MTA00AX/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_201_bs_t_1/143-0898377-8791034?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=5K4MXTX1QYKNSSPA8073) on the window bottoms. Either way, this would probably require a smaller desk and/or tweaking.

Other thoughts- I'd go white (or baseboard off-white) for the blackout curtains. A burnt yellow planter on the table. Paint the corkboard frame black. One thing- the coffee table looks very tall in the pics. Hairpin legs are pretty affordable on Amazon. Love that wooden tray in the bathroom.

Here is a video explaining how to do it with led and show a small model. The TLDW video is that you create a box, have a mirror in the back, whatever you want to show on the inside of the box with lights, and the view part has a material that is reflective on one side (Plexiglass + mirrored window film put as the cover you see through and the reflective is on the inside).

u/neurosurge · 6 pointsr/confusing_perspective

If you have enough room in your box, put a large plastic cup in the middle and put a small ultrasonic fog machine in it. Put that fogger on a timer to run about 20 seconds every couple hours or whatever. While you're at it, hook a small fan up to run around the same time to pull in some fresh air. An arduino nano is perfect for this.

Put some Window Film like this on your windows. I live in the high desert and i did this to our windows and the plants are absolutely thriving. You can get really cool styles of film or get creative and create designs that are both useful and decorative. On one of my windows I cut the film to look like mountains that reach 3/4 of the way up the window. Then I hung some Full Sun plants to block out excess sunlight and now I have a curtain of green. I hope this helps and Good Luck!

When my puppy notices something from the window I immediately get his attention before barking and get him to sit and treat him for it. He then watches silently, we’re still working on it but I have noticed a slight improvement.

I also bought this for a different reason/not dog related and I love it! still get the natural light in.

I have several of those fibrox knives. I would also recommend everyone get a whetstone, angle guide, and honing rod. No matter if you have that particular knife or not, something as simple as this, this, and this will make it so easy to maintain an ultra sharp edge. A few drags on the honing rod will help keep your knife sharp, and when that doesn't cut it (heh) use your whetstone. You'll never have to suffer through using a dull blade again.

u/Sherlockiana · 4 pointsr/toddlers

It is this one!: https://www.amazon.com/Adorable-color-changing-night-light-children-families/dp/B002RNKOM2

You set it to a time (mine is at 6:15) and at that time it glows green for a half hour. At any other time, when you press one of the feet, it glows yellow (lasts about 20 mins or so, not on all night).

At night, I turn it on, remind my daughter that yellow means sleep, and we say night night to the “robot”. If she wakes before that time, I show her the yellow clock and say she needs to go back to bed till it is green. Works great!

u/RedDogThree · 4 pointsr/beyondthebump

Around that age I introduced the Okay To Wake Clock because my son also fancied a 5:30am wake time.

I set it for near the time my son was already waking up and we talked about what it meant- we get to wake up when the green light is on but if we wake up and the light isn't on yet we have to lay back down and sleep/rest. Then I started moving the wake time back 10 minutes or so. In the beginning, there was 10 minutes of screaming and crying and I would go in to pat him on the back and lay him back down, but I persisted.

He's 20 months old now and this thing is an ingrained part of our routine. The light on his clock is set to go off at 6:45am. If he wakes up sooner he looks at his light and will lay back down to sleep or quietly play in his crib (I have seen him do this on the monitor). The nice thing is the light is gentle enough that he frequently sleeps past the light until 7:15-7:30.

There have been periods of time in the last 8 months of retraining or adjustment- we recently moved his bedtime back 1 hour, for example- but this little device has done so much for us... especially as sunrise comes earlier and earlier!

The 7 Liter (236oz) (7.4qt) (42 cup) Sistema almost perfectly fits the 2 cedar trays that I got from Amazon. I was very pleased with it. The container goes by many names - I've literally seen it go by each of those unit of measures. Amazon has it for like $36 which is crazy. I had Walmart ship me one but they sent a 5 liter by accident and think the item listing is incorrect about the sizing. Sistemas have a rubber gasket on the lid and 4 flip lock things to keep the lid secure.

I ended up going with the Container Store. They are not in my area so I had to buy online and pay for the shipping. They go for $12.99

This is a pretty good primer about the technique and stuff. I just got a 1000 grit stone from amazon and tried it with a bunch of different cheap knives I had laying around. It's all technique and learning to feel the burr on the edge.

This is the stone I used too - https://www.amazon.com/King-1000-Grit-Whetstone-Plastic/dp/B000OT1ZOC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1523892968&sr=8-2&keywords=king+1000+grit

u/Kobluna · 3 pointsr/Bowyer

While it really depends on just HOW fine and polished you want to make your edge, any old sharpening stone would do for ya.

I've gone through a few of these over the years, it's not so abrasive that you'll grind away half your knife by accident, but enough to make it work.
https://www.amazon.com/King-1000-Grit-Whetstone-Plastic/dp/B000OT1ZOC/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1481149234&sr=8-15&keywords=waterstone

I cannot recommend the double sided stones with the low grit on one side, high on the other. The grits get washed together and it kinda ruins both stones pretty quick.

u/twelveoclock · 3 pointsr/fountainpens

I noticed that the writing edge has a slight curvature to it. Did you use a squishy surface like a "pad" to do the grind or something with a solid surface like a stone? I've found that pads don't make the writing surface fully flat and you might want to try with a solid grinding surface in case you want to try on a steel nib in the future. I've found my results to be far better on my whetstone compared to my micromesh pads

You could put on frosted window film like is used on bathroom windows. It's non-permanent and you could still have privacy and light. You could also stick bubble wrap up there instead. A lot of people do this in the winter for improved insulation on house windows. You could probably get bubble wrap for free to try it out.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007RCX088

u/kornberg · 3 pointsr/Dogtraining

I don't blame you, that is scary!

The good news is that 1) he probably didn't mean to bite you and 2) with the right techniques, you can take care of this problem before it gets 'stuck'.

By losing his shit when he sees something, your dog is basically telling you that he has no idea what to do in this situation and he's overwhelmed. The bite was not aggression towards you, it was a total lack of control over his emotions. Think of a young child flailing in the throes of a hysterical, out of control tantrum and knocking over a lamp in the process. Your dog was totally out of control and you were the lamp.

First order of business is to get him away from what's freaking him out. I just put [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Non-Adhesive-Frosted-Privacy-Window-Film-/dp/B007RCX088/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1420221216&sr=8-3&keywords=window+film) stuff on my back patio door because the dogs had actually knocked the door out of alignment trying to get to the squirrels and whatnot in the backyard. It's non adhesive, so it won't gum up your windows and you can take it off whenever. When a 7 year old peeled it off, I just re-wet the window and put it back on and it looks great. If it gets scraggly looking, it's pretty cheap so I will just replace it. It's been 2 months so far and if it was shredded tomorrow, it'd be worth the $30 every 2 months for the peace and quiet it brings. By preventing your dog from seeing other dogs outside, you're making it easier for your dog to overcome this issue. Every time he freaks out, the behavior of freaking out becomes more and more ingrained and harder to deal with.

Your next step is to teach your pup how to deal with his emotions when he encounters something that triggers an outburst. If you're not familiar with BAT techniques, I'd recommend finding a trainer or workshop in your area. [Here] (http://empoweredanimals.com/BAT-basics.pdf) is a good resource to understand the concept. If you've already been working on obedience with a clicker, [this] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpzvqN9JNUA) is a good technique. If you're unfamiliar, I'd start with a trainer and go from there. Clicker training is easy to do, but it's also easy to screw up. A good trainer will help you understand how your dog thinks, because their reasoning is not intuitive to a human. You'll have reasonable expectations set and an experienced person there to guide you when you need it.

Literally vegetable glycerin. I'd maybe get from a vape place though... not sure how pure your average kind is and whether it'd smell bad. Check nudenicotine.com for cheap definitely-vapable VG. Get 100% VG zero mg/ml nicotine.

As for vaping hardware... it's literally just a spool of wire wrapped around cotton soaking it up with power. But this might not be something you want to build yourself because something shitty has the real risk of blowing up the battery if you just leave it on. You could get a super cheap vape or something, and have it stay on? They're not really meant for that though. Or maybe something like this which is meant to stay on, then just leave VG in it.

Though dry ice might be the easiest set up of all. Depends if you want to be able to turn it on and off I guess.

u/615wonky · 3 pointsr/shrooms

Want to start by saying I'm definitely no shroom-growing genius yet. This is just my current setup, and a bleg for comments/ideas.

I'm just growing for myself. My brother died 1.5 years ago, and I've subsequently started microdosing shrooms, which turns out to be an absolutely fantastic antidepressant. So I'm more interested in "cheap, consistent, and reliable" than I am trying to churn out a kilo a week.

My setup is:

  • A 4-tier greenhouse

  • A Vicks cold humidifier on the bottom shelf

  • A water fountain mist maker on the top shelf, inside a random bowl from my cupboard

  • Two fans in the tent to help circulate air One is at top blowing down, the other is at bottom on the other side of the tent blowing up

  • A humidity controller (the humidifier and mister are plugged into it) to help keep humidity in the right zone

  • A Raspberry Pi 3 with Sense Hat so I can log temperature and humidity and log into it from work to check

  • The tent is sitting on an upside-down lid from the largest tote I could find at Lowes. This allows air circulation under the skirt of the greenhouse, and helps capture any water drips to ensure I don't get water elsewhere in the room.

  • Two plastic totes from Costco (sorry, can't find a link), with holes drilled in and filled with polyfill, similar to this.

  • A 20 W night light bulb on a 12 hour timer on the top shelf.

According to the Raspberry Pi, the average temperature in the room is 62 F, with a bimodal distribution (my girlfriend loves AC...). It's 65 F when I'm here alone, and 60 F whenever she's here. Humidity varies between 65% and 75%, though I'm still working on it. It's rather hard to boost temperatures in that particular basement room.

The shrooms are growing very slowly. They started pinning 3-ish weeks ago, and still don't look anything like the giant mushrooms I see posted here regularly. My "biggest yielding" tub currently looks like this. No giant shrooms, and rather sparse inside. Furthermore, a large percentage of the shrooms have been there long enough that the caps have turned black. The other tub has a few tiny pins but no growth yet.

So what do I need to be doing differently in order to improve my growth/yield? And are those black cap shrooms still good? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Things I've already learned this round:

  • Paint the bottom of your totes black or cover them with tape to prevent light from getting in. My totes don't have many shrooms as-is, but right now 2/3's of them are "side-dicks" that are impossible to get to.

  • Regularly rotate totes between shelves, as well as rotating them around on the same shelf, to ensure reasonably equal amounts of sunlight and air.

  • Even with a humidifier and a mister, it's hard to keep humidity in the zone. Use a squeeze bottle to mist totes every day.

You can find little water-based foggers for a few bucks in many places.

https://www.amazon.com/AGPTEK-Aluminum-Fountain-Fishtank-Birdbath/dp/B00PAK245E/

That's just a simple Amazon search for "water mist". You put them in a little pot of water and plug them in and they use high-frequency sonic pulses to make fog. They aren't anywhere as efficient as "Halloween fog maker" type things but they do the job for small jobs.

u/eatmonster · 3 pointsr/Charcuterie

I was where you were about 2 years ago.

  1. I found a free refrigerator and spent around $90 to buy all of the stuff to build my own Frankencurebox. I suggest buying a Mist Maker Fogger instead of a humidifier (less money and less space) and I use a tiny ceramic heater instead of a dehumidifier which kicks on the refrigerator to cool and dehumidifier. I eventually plan on building my own dehumidifier. Only time I've had a problem was when I loaded my box and the meat was giving off more humidity that my dehumidification could handle.
  2. I would start with dry cured sausages. Most people here trust the Ruhlman recipes/books when starting. They are faster to finish and less money if you mess up. Go to a butcher and ask for pork or beef grind. It's the scraps they eventually turn into ground. A whole muscle cure like loma is going to take you 50+ days to finish. A dry cured sausage like pepperoni is only going to take 15-20. Much faster cycles to practice and test.
  3. Nitrites/Nitrates are necessary and not dangerous if used properly. The big Nitrates scare of the 1980s was caused by a bacon shortage. Bacon producers over nitrated to speed up bacon production. Nitrates cooked at high temperatures release carcinogens. So because bacon producers were using too much nitrate to cure, there was some left over when the bacon was cooked which released carcinogens.
u/voice_in_the_woods · 3 pointsr/CatAdvice

I would assume there might be feral cats outside that they can smell and that might be winding them up. Talk to the vet about this as a possibility if you think it might be true. If it's a sight-related thing, i.e. they can see cats outside that are putting them on edge, you could cover the bottom of your windows with frosted film. If it's because ferals are spraying, you may need to look into ways to dissuade the ferals or get them moved.

If your vet deems it necessary, you may be able to get your cats on anti-anxiety meds, basically Prozac for cats.

I've got a long list of questions for you, if you don't mind. For reference, I just bought a King stone 1000 because my knife is incredibly dull, where I can press and rub my finger (like pressing a button on a phone, if not harder).

  • What coarser stone should I buy to use before the 1000? Can I start sharpening without anything less than a 1000, if the knife is at this point of damage?
  • I want to maintain my wet stone and prevent it from caving in. What kind of stone did you buy to make sure it's a flat surface?
u/thatguyron · 2 pointsr/woodworking

It's actually an exponential scale so the gap can be bigger at finer grits. Here's a chart that compares the grit number (use the waterstone column) with the actual size of the particles involved in microns.

My "everyday" set is this one and I this one (the 2nd one has reviews complaining about getting the wrong size, but I bought it in a store so I got the size this link is supposed to be for). Those are enough to get chisels and plane blades sharp enough to shave my arm hairs.

The 400 is some local brand I got in a small shop in Japan, and I like having a coarse stone since you'll be there forever on the 1000 stone if you ever accidentally chip an edge or want to restore an old blade. But to be fair, these are rarer uses so you might as well just use the sandpaper method for these purposes instead of buying a whole stone just for that purpose.

The 13000 stone is this one.

Yeah, OP needs a whetstone and a few youtube videos.

u/AManAPlanACanalErie · 2 pointsr/chefknives

People on youtube do stupid shit to get people to talk about them, because to join the conversation you need to watch the inflammatory video.

Ten minute soak, five minutes to sharpen, once, maybe twice, a month. Using this and this. Keeps the two knives I use sharp.

There is no black magic. Use the right grits, use the right lubricant, keep the right angle. Nothing else matters. Keeping your knives sharp with waterstones is right within the amount of work you are looking to invest (assuming you don't do anything silly like use a glass cutting board)

They come in two sizes -- Original Blackout Pleated Paper shade. 36" for $20 and 48" wide for $36. I bought the $20 version and was able to had to trim off a couple of inches; they're designed to be cut per the directions.

The top most end has an adhesive strip although in supposed one could use tacks if they preferred. The adhesive stip works fine.

u/GreyZQJ · 2 pointsr/raisingkids

Do you have Instagram? Check out "takingcarababies". She offers different types of classes that you can pay for, but I have gotten SO much good, free advice just from following her posts.

I also second what people are saying about the blackout curtains and sound machines. I got these for blackout curtains--they are cheap and efficient. You want something that actually blocks all light, which most curtains don't do.

If you want to get some blackout curtains that aren't actually curtains (for the strangulation risk), I highly recommend these paper ones

They're pleated and made of paper. You can cut them to length (or width) and they come with clips so you can fold them up and secure them!

u/driving26inorovalley · 2 pointsr/Tucson

Nice! Oh, and here are some temporary blackout shades:

https://www.amazon.com/Original-Blackout-Pleated-Shade-6-Pack/dp/B000SDROMG

I used Redi Shades in a whole house before while waiting to figure out a more permanent window treatment solution and ended up leaving them for more than a year, as they were clean-looking, durable, and easy to adjust if needed.

u/wararmy · 2 pointsr/DIY

Paper blinds.

That's what I used at my temp apartment. Black ones will fit the apt style & rather inexpensive. Easy to cut them to adjust the width. The only downside, given how high up your windows are, will be a pain in the boot to adjust them. So I'd just leave them at about 70-75% closed.

i have paper blackout curtains in my bedroom instead of an eye mask. you can also find them at hardware stores, for example home depot if you are in the usa. you cut them to you window size and tape em up. they have clips to keep them weighted when you put them doen at night. works like a charm - total darkness!

Onaroo OK to Wake Alarm Clock and... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B002RNKOM2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

(I hope the link works, I’m on my phone) This is the one I bought. I love it! I originally bought it just because it was one of the cheaper options. It has a thing in the back that you have to open up to set the awake, alarm and time and once it’s closed there’s nothing my kid can touch on it that will mess with the settings. The buttons on the front are just to turn the light on (which will shut off on its own) or to turn the awake light off. It even has a setting for nap times but I’ve never used it. My kid loves it too, when we go away he asks me to bring it.

u/scienara · 2 pointsr/Parenting

We got the OK to Wake clock mentioned above when our son was a bit over 2 years old. It works well for him. I like that we can set not only what time the light comes on, but how long it stays lit. It won't wake him up (as in, if he's sleeping and the light comes on, it's not bright enough to startle him awake), but it does let him know when it's OK to get out of bed when he does wake up naturally.

My guess is online ordering, or stores might have some. It will be tricky if you don't know the exact measurements of the windows. There is something like this at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, this at Amazon, and this at Lowe's.

I would really just stick with curtains or blinds, though. You only need them closed when you're changing and then you can open them right up again.

u/nevergirl · 2 pointsr/InteriorDesign

I live on the second floor of a building also with huge floor to ceiling windows that look into the public courtyard and across into neighbor apartments. I bought this stuff from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007RCX088

And used this tutorial: http://makingitfeellikehome.blogspot.com/2012/01/frosted-privacy-window.html
to create patters on my windows that let in all the light, and let me enough outside to make me happy without people being able to see inside very easily. The window film lets in a lot of light, but isn't see-thru at night (I've checked! Even standing right in front of the window with a light behind me, you can only see a vague outline, no details).

Hope you find your solution, good luck!

I'm sorry this is so hard for you. SAD really stinks.

The exercise, clean eating, light therapy, and anti-depressants are a big deal in managing SAD. It is awesome that you are doing this already.

It can be frustrating to be doing so much yet feel like it isn't quite enough. A lot of people need to do several things at the same time to manage SAD. Are you taking vitamin D? If wake ups are a problem, you might consider a wake up light alarm clock. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is really good for SAD, too.

I have a really bad time with long, unrestful sleep. The wake up light alarm is a big deal. I keep a light box next to my monitor and have it on most of the mornings when I work. For me, 20-30 min is not enough.

Do you have people in your life who will help you stay engaged in activities? Is there anyone you can ask for help with this?

For me, mid-end of December is usually the worst of the winter. You are not alone. Sometimes it helps to know that you have company. It doesn't lessen the feelings, but it can be less lonely.

Stay strong, days start getting longer in just 16 days!

It works by atomizing water, so the fog effect is just a very fine mist. It's fine enough that for short runs there's hardly any residue, but running it for a while leaves the tiles slightly damp.

u/ezzy_bear · 2 pointsr/paludarium

They are kind of the same product but on a different scale. The reptifogger is essentially a large ultrasonic humidifier that will produce mist and greatly increase the humidity in your tank. The mist king system is a diaphragm pump that pushes water out of high pressure mister that creates more of a rain effect.

A small ultrasonic mister could be purchased instead and set just under the surface of the water in your tank to create the aesthetic fog you are looking for and save you a decent chunk of change. This is what I am going to use in mine to make fog on the water

Ditch that dark corner shelf and get some nice over-toilet storage (one | two) that you can organize with baskets, bins, folded towels, etc. Weed out any bath products you're not using.

Replace the curtains with something more modern and light (one | two)! You could even just put some privacy film over the window so you don't lose any light. Add a hanging plant or lantern (to warm up the lighting) to the corner above the toilet, and a tall laundry basket or wastebasket next to the sink.

As others have mentioned, a rug is a great idea - they also make ones that fit around toilets (one | two).

Then maybe it would be best to try to obscure the window rather than the balcony. There are lots of ways to do that.

My wife and I had a similar problem; she hated being exposed but I didn't want to lose the natural light. What we found worked was to apply something like this to the glass:

... which gave us privacy while preserving natural light. Because we wanted to have some ability to see out, we didn't cover the entire window with it, just the center portion. It makes a nice effect, and it's easy to see out but still nearly impossible to see anything inside.

The other suggestions of cloth wrapped ice packs are worth trying, but I'd look at how to make the AC more efficient.

  1. Can you move the cage closer to the AC? Even if the whole room is warmer, the area closest to the AC will be cooler.

  2. If there's windows in the room, add window film to insulate and decrease heat coming it - it's cheap and easily removable if you rent (I rent and have them up). Just make sure it's non-adhesive, static cling film. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/Gila-Privacy-Static-Residential-Adhesive/dp/B000HE57JS or this one https://www.amazon.com/FILMGOO-Privacy-Control-Anti-UV-Non-Adhesive/dp/B07CYY7PQW/

  3. You could make or buy a solar (or battery) powered swamp cooler. In small spaces it can work shockingly well, but it's annoying to have to check the water level every few hours. You can also buy swamp coolers prefabbed, but if money is a concern you can DIY it. https://www.google.com/search?q=solar+swamp+cooler

My boy starts looking uncomfortable over 76, so I would be very worried keeping him in temps of 80+. I shoot for 72 degrees and he seems comfortable plus or minus a few degrees of that.

Refrigerated stone slabs do help for short term relief, but ultimately you need to keep the temp down. Chinchilla don't sweat, and can't release body heat that way. If you aren't comfortable in a long sleeve shirt or sweater in the room they're in, then it's too hot for the chins.

Your knife doesn't need to be expensive but it needs to be extremely sharp. you need to use a whetstone to get it sharp enough for sushi. Here is a video on how to use one:

You can make any run of the mill knife scalpel sharp, but a real sushi chef uses a hollowed edge knife, and sharpens it on a 10,000 grit whetstone.

P.S. as long as nori is fresh it doesn't matter what brand it is.

u/zapatodefuego · 1 pointr/Cooking

Victorinox makes booth a grooved and smooth hone. A grooved hone won't be any different than yours and a smooth hone just realigns a deformed edge. Here's Alton Brown explaining it, but he's not entirely correct because the steel he is using is also removing a small amount of material.

If I'm correct and the problem is that your current hone has removed some material in the wrong places, you should be able to fix it with the same hone just by consistently holding the right angle which should be 14˚ for a Wusthof. Remember, that's the edge angle and not the included angle. This will probably take a while though 30 seconds on a cheap whetstone would accomplish the same task.

Even proper honing on a smooth steel eventually requires sharpening. Honing where the steel is just realigning eventually develops fatigue in the metal which then needs to be removed.

u/blindtranche · 1 pointr/knives

I am happy with this stone.. It is big enough...about 7 1/2" to easily sharpen a kitchen chef knife.

I am not a fanatic. There is nothing better than 3 stones and a strop. But, I get a very good working edge in a couple of minutes with just this one synthetic stone. I have the Lansky system and ceramic sticks, but in my opinion they are fiddly and slow.

This one medium grit stone is simple, cheap, easy and fast.

If you're struggling to get 8 hours a night, you can focus on deepening the sleep you do get instead of sleeping longer.

  • Black out your room at night. This is the biggest one for me. I have cheap blackout shades and I use electrical tape to cover internet routers, smoke alarms - anything that flashes. Get your room dark enough that you can't see your hand in front of your face. Even a little light will fuck with your melatonin production and compromise your sleep quality.

  • If you use electronics at night, download f.lux. It's a free program that removes blue light from your monitor after the sun sets. Your phone should have night mode under settings; turn that on as well. Light in the blue spectrum is the biggest melatonin disruptor.

  • Take 400 mg of magnesium citrate or magnesium glycinate before bed. It eases stress and causes a dramatic increase in sleep quality. Plus, a good percentage of the population is deficient in magnesium, so you could probably use a little extra anyway. If you go for magnesium citrate, start at 200 mg and move up to 400 mg over the course of a couple days. Too much at once will make you shit your pants. Glycinate doesn't have that issue, but isn't quite as bioavailable.

  • Take 300 mcg of melatonin right before bed. Melatonin is a hormone your body uses to encourage deep sleep, and taking it in pill form will knock you right out. It's prescription in the UK, over-the-counter in the US. Most doses are far too high (2-10 mg), and can impair your natural melatonin production if you take them regularly without a break. Stick with 300mcg (linked above); it's the minimum effective dose and won't mess with your hormones long-term.

  • I also drink kava tea on nights when I really can't sleep. It's more for stress relief/anxiety than for sleep, but if you find you have trouble winding down at night it can be a big help. Don't drink alcohol alongside kava; the active compounds, kavalactones, bind to the same brain receptors that alcohol does, meaning the effects of the two stack.

  • Don't take sleeping pills if you can avoid them. I'm not a doctor, and I'm not saying you should ignore your doctor, but sleeping pills don't actually put you into stage 3 and stage 4 sleep (the deep, restorative sleep your brain needs). They can also cause a lot of neurological side effects.

There are a ton of them on Amazon, the most popular of which is the "OK to Wake!". It's $29, but for $10 more you can get an upgraded clock by the same company, the Teach Me Time which does all the stuff the OK to Wake! does but also has a real clock on it and will help your kid learn to read the time.

That said, I'm with /u/hadesarrow, a simple timer on a light or even one of those sunlight simulator alarm clocks would be a better investment. After all the cutesy kid alarm clock will be too babyish for them soon, but a real alarm clock with a sunrise simulator light (or plug for a lamp) will be useful forever.

It also has an option for an audible alarm and snooze for older kids.

My sister-in-law has this alarm clock made for little kids that tells them when it's ok to be awake. Her house rule is that until it says it's ok, they have to stay in their room and be quiet. I think this clock might be the one (if not, it's something similar).

What I did was I put my alarm on the other side of the room (and made sure it made the most obnoxious sound I could find, the Red Alert klaxon from Star Trek though the biohazard alarm works nicely too) and use an app called Alarm Clock Plus turn off snooze and set "Math for Dismiss" with 3 problems (you can set the number of problems and difficulty). If you want it to shut up you have to get up, walk across the room, and do math and by that point I'm pretty awake. Guy I used to date in HS, his dad set 3 alarm clocks, one in each corner so he had to get up and do a full circuit of the room to shut them all off. There is also Clocky, Tocky, This flying thing, A shake weight alarm clock, and this Bluetooth bed shaker

To help, instead of putting a backdrop on the sides (which in some can increase reflection) maybe look at privacy window films which will minimize reflection more. Other than that I don't know what to suggest, good luck!

u/ArizonaLad · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

If you want heat reflection AND daytime (only) privacy, a premium window tint installed on the inside of the window, such as Gila Film's Titanium line, would lower the heat entering the room by quite a bit, and obscure casual viewing of the homeowners. It does not obstruct the view at night, however.

For privacy after dark, without heat rejection, you would need a product like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Best-Home-Fashion-Non-Adhesive-6-5-Feet/dp/B007RCX088

Do do both jobs at the same time? Perhaps the Gila film on the inside, and the Best Home Fashion product on the exterior?

This could probably be answered best by calling the manufacturer, I suggest.

You mean this stuff, right?:

https://www.amazon.com/Fluval-Plant-Shrimp-Stratum-4-4-Pound/dp/B00JGQIY48

I was looking at that, but ultimately, potting soil has more nutrients in it (and it's what I'm used to using in all other aspects of my life), and I just prefer the idea of roots going into real soil.

So with that in mind, would you suggest the stratum as a cap? Or is that too light for a cap?

u/Elhazar · 1 pointr/PlantedTank

Well, it does is a hard challenge for a beginner, but doing a properly carpeted nano-Aquascape (~20l <=> ~5g <=> ~2.0 × 10^-2 m^3) with DIY CO2 and a small sponge filter is doable in <150$

A quick, small suggestion:

Tank, ~13l <=> 3.4g, 40$

Soil, 20$

Light, 40$

stones, 25$

Filter, 10$,

1 pot Monte carlo or some other easy carpet plant at your lfs: 8€

We‘re left with 7$ for ~4 RCS, I guess.

I assumed you construct you DIY CO2 from an old bottle with sugar and yeast, so 0$ effetivly.

For cycling and food some free samples of fish food does the job. When food rots it emits ammonia, that could be used for cycling.

So here we go, every thing ready for a nice iwagumi-aquascape. If you do well, it might looks like this (That Tank has HC as carpet, but Monte carlo looks similar)!

Well, if you‘re willing to put up a dozens of hours on studying to to properly keep a planted tank.

edit: Wrong link for tank, this was the one I mistakenly linked to. Still a nice, small tank, tho. Also some additions for clearance.

u/Nezsa · 1 pointr/Aquariums

Hmm, I don't think I've ever encountered a substrate guide like that, but based on the plants and fish you want to stock, you'll have success with either aquasoil, or sand+RootTabs.

If you weren't looking for a dark sand I would suggest going to your local hardware store and picking up Pool filter sand, but unfortunately it's usually white.

I've heard great things from Black Diamond blasting sand, but I'm not sure if it's available in Canada.

If you go to any of the pet stores near you, you'll probably be able to find "CaribSea Super Naturals" sand, which works well and it pretty commonly available.

For soil, I used Fluval Aquasoil for my first heavily planted tank, and it worked well. It's a bit expensive, but since you're setting up such a small tank I don't think it'll be too bad. I'm guessing a 4.4lb bag will be enough, but please double check!

My amazon sword and anacharis loves it! Even my anubias attaches itself to the substrate even though it has a decor for itself. There's other substrate that has fertilizer for the plants but that's only an online purchase from Amazon.

I feel like it will help with keeping the tank healthy. When I changed out the substrate for another color I crashed my cycle. I asked Reddit and researched and finds out I killed a lot of good bacteria :/ But remember to get a siphon to clean it every week. I do about a 25% water change when I clean the substrate. For the plants, since I just have this substrate from petco, I add weekly or bi weekly leaf zone, also found at petco. It does what the fertilizer substrate would do.

Of course natural sunlight is the best.
But since you are up there in the NE and it's going to be COLD and dark you can't provide that to it for a few months.

So... you can get a few 100watt lights here that should take care of it. put that into a 10" reflective dome and you'll have both light and a nice heat gradient for it to move in and out of.

u/16cantom · 1 pointr/Hydroponics

I'd love to describe it! Generally I use the same design as I've found it works best for what I've grown in the past (cannabis, tomato, basil, peas, bell pepper, lettuce) which is an adaptation of most "aero-bucket" designs. For mine it's very simple, food grade bucket (preferably black to limit algal growth, though I've never had issues with this before) and an inexpensive pond fogger. The pond fogger works awesome at vaporizing the water and I've found nutrient penetration to the roots is much more effective than a direct spray method. The fogger can be a little finnicky given it needs a semi exact water level to work well but if your bucket is sealed (food grade buckets use a great gasket for sealing) you'll be fine as the solution vapor will remain in the bucket with minimal losses. Ive also used a plastic pot upside-down to raise the fogger and allow me to fill more nutrient solution into the bucket. Links for my parts below!

SC5w is an excellent choice. It doesn't get much better for a single AA, but it might not be much floodier than the LD20. A 10° hotspot is fairly tight, it's probably because of the smaller XPL2 emitter. They do have an SC5 with a frosted lens, although the LED is markedly inferior to the new version. Shoot who knows, maybe you can use some frosted window cling or something on the lens if it turns out to be too focused.

The Olight S1 Mini Baton and S1 Baton can run on both RCR123s or primaries. CW only unless you want to dish out extra for the titanium ones (S Mini [Similar to, but different than the S1 Mini])(S1 Baton) to get NW.

My recommendations are all single-cell compact lights, but if you're used to carrying a 2xAA light and have a budget of $100, there are tons of options, especially with 18650 lights that can use 123s as backup. 18650s and a charger will set you back ~$30-40, but $60 leaves MANY possibilities. Parametrek will probably roll up any second and plug the Wowtac A1S because it comes as a complete kit for $30, but it doesn't say it supports 2xCR123. It might, but it doesn't say officially. Might be too throwy.

Thrunite Neutron 2C is a total kit, but might also be too throwy.

Depending on whether it can accept the 6.0V from 2xCR123, a triple configuration in a Convoy S2+ would be super bright, total flood light.

EDIT: Was wrong about the emitter in the frosted Zebra

Yup! My older dog used to bark at quite a bit when we lived in an apartment, but we managed to get her to mostly stop (granted, she's not a hugely barky dog - she's more of the talkative type)

The first think you'll need to do is management when you're not directly training. This means covering up windows (something like this might be a good option) so your dog can't see what's going on outside, and a white noise machine or something (my best has been those super crappy box fans they sell during college student move in - the cheaper the better because you want loud!) to block sounds.

Now that you've got that done, then you start counter conditioning the behavior. A great method to use is outlined here. If your dog is barking at things that are sporadic and can't be replicated by you, it is more difficult, but be on the lookout to see if you can manage to train with those distractions. But you may have to enlist friends to help you out with people walking by!

As for when it happens, I tend to then use negative punishment. If my dog barks inappropriately, they get a time out. I usually put them in the bathroom for about 10-20 seconds. More if they get super worked up and need to calm down. If once I let them out they bark again, they go back into the bathroom for another 10-20 seconds. Repeat ad-nauseum until they don't bark at the stimulus, and then reward heavily!

If it turns into a problem, I used these (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00XHXU7PU/ref=psdcmw_16136296011_t1_B01CA7IW9Q) as I did not care about the mirror really. In the end I removed them and built my PC into the closet

I got something a lot like this from Amazon. Sturdy, looks good and holds my headset and headphones :)

Edit: snapped a pic. Link

Great idea, but I would not recommend disabling that setting. I also bought a Styrofoam head as well, but have yet to use it for that reason. Thinking about it now, perhaps cutting away on the head to make an area that would not get close enough to the sensor? They make glass heads you can get from Amazon for about $35. I am not sure if just the material is enough to trigger the sensor or it is also a combination of light blockage. If so, maybe a transparent glass head could work? Will have to try putting up a glass cup to the headset to see what happens. https://www.amazon.com/MVAP-6832-Glass-Universal-Display/dp/B00XQH8Y9I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474999566&sr=8-1&keywords=glass+head

I have one of these! This one specifically, and man I wish I got it for that cheap....

It's actually a glass head for wigs! haha.

People also use it to display headphones, so I figured why not a HMD?

As for the riser below it, it's a monitor riser. I don't remember where and when I got it.

IKEA also makes a flat surface that is intended to be used on-top of the Alex drawers. I don't know what it is called, but it is always right next to the drawers in the stores.

You won’t be able to see the wires but it will still look natural.

I’ve got something like this on my list:

They sell privacy window film https://www.amazon.com/RABBITGOO-Privacy-Frosted-Adhesive-Bathroom/dp/B01MTA00AX?keywords=privacy+film&qid=1538172517&sr=8-1-spons&ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa&psc=1

in a whole bunch of varieties. They would still let most of the light through and enhance the privacy.

Hey, I've been looking into frosted glass films and sheets, and was having trouble figuring out what would be appropriate or actually work. Here are some I found online:

u/thesourswede · 1 pointr/Hue

Frosted window film would probably work, would eat some lumen though.
