For those commenting on the power bank... OP is using a USB-A power bank and so it won't charge the Switch while it is also being played. It will extend play time significantly, and it'll charge the Switch while idle.

USB-C (5V/3A) will charge the Switch while being played and it'll charge the Switch much faster than the USB-A while idle. USB-C PD will charge the Switch safely at the maximum rate, but those power banks are probably too big for this setup.

Aukey does make a 10,000mA USB-C power bank which is the same size as OP's. It is not USB-C PD, but again it is more than sufficient to charge the Switch during play. They also make a 20,000mAh USB-C power bank, as OP mentions, which is 50mm longer, 20mm wider, and the same thickness.

I bought a solar-rechargeable battery bank on Amazon for this one. Figure I can at least charge up my phone/Kindle and power a small USB desk fan for the hot night.

EDIT: I got this one. Reviews were good and it has an integrated flashlight.

So people are always going to slip stuff into some boxes some where.

Depending on your type of unit and how far away from home you guys are it might just be extra protein bars or it might be a ps4 and a tv.

I ALWAYS recommend:

Baby wipes

Literally all of your underwear, plus some you are about to go buy.

All your socks...plus some more that i think you should also go buy.

Pack of protein bars from GNC

Gum

Please bring a bunch of deoderant and tooth paste/tooth brush. Being in the field is not a free pass to just be nasty. Trust me you will get the rep for it and if you are working around people that aren't bumming it they will move you away fast.

Bring a brand new razor because you are going to be expected to shave. Pouring water on your face from a canteen then shaving is already difficult....with an old razor its even worse.

Stuff a bunch of plastic grocery bags into your ruck somewhere and you can use them to hold your dirty clothes.

Chances are you will be able to bring a duffel bag and then ALSO your ruck. If you don't smoke or dip grab a pack of smokes or two plus some grizzly winter green and you can trade it away.

Walmart 10mg melatonin chewables. Sleeping in a new place that sucks with a bunch of loud fuckers isn't the easiest. This should help as a sleep aid. I take four sometimes just to pass out. Bottle should be like $6 for 100 chewies.

A Power strip of your own. These can be really helpful when everyone is already plugged in and there are no more sockets.

A portable battery pack. Something off amazon is just fine. I recommend the solar powered one. Man that shit is a life saver. Something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/25000mAh-Hiluckey-Compatible-Smartphones-Waterproof/dp/B07FMFGGNR/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=solar+power+battery+charger&qid=1562521215&s=gateway&sr=8-4

Bring a book. Something fun. Maybe some sudoku. Find something you are interested in. That will make the time go faster. If you have a tablet buy a nice protective case and get it charged off that portable battery pack or find a way to make it happen.

Also, plastic ziplock bags are your friend. Not that slide zipper shit and not those cheap ones either but the red and blue make purple things. If you bring one just big enough to put your phone in its water proof. You can use the keypad and everything through the bag easy. It saves from rain and dust and whatever else might happen.

Bring a few sizes and a bunch of extras. You hand that shit out and people will think you're ass is merlin when its about to rain. People remember that stuff. I'm going to add this to the main post but I wanted to make sure you saw it.

Two pairs of ear buds from target. Something super cheap that you don't mind losing or breaking. Probably 5 a pop on amazon or something. These are just to get you through.

Bring extra power charging cords. You will also want to keep these in your sight at all times.

A good multi tool is nice and it can bail you out / make you the hero.

A small flash light that packs some power. You will be dumbfounded how dark it gets and you don't want to be walking into anything while your taking that midnight wiz.

https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Bright-Flashlight-Wsiiroon-Water-Resistant-Batteries/dp/B07537C91H/ref=sr_1_13?crid=Z2D1DNX2LIX1&keywords=led+flashlight&qid=1562521670&s=gateway&sprefix=led+fla%2Caps%2C166&sr=8-13

What is your MOS? It helps to determine what you are going to be doing. If you're in the TOC you can always charge your phone or your battery pack in there. If you are one of those high speeds who are out in the field....probably not.

Travel pillow and a small air mattress. Man those things are nice. A small twin will run you maybe $30. Super worth it. People might laugh but its way better than one of those metal cots. Bring a travel blanket like that woobie. That thing can be light but can also hold in some heat.

Find someone that you know has been in the unit for a while and ask them what they normally bring. Chances are they've been to an AT with the unit and know the shit that the command tries to pull. Like whats going to not be allowed and what is fair game. Maybe someone sneaking in an extra box that you can toss a few items in. People normally try to look out for others in the guard especially in their section. The last thing you want is some private with not shit, ill prepared, no resources and stinking in your section making you look bad. So your leadership should at least give you some type of leeway.

If you can be a part of the team that goes to the gas station to refill the gas canteens (if thats a thing for your unit) that power the generators make sure you get involved with that somehow or find someone that is. This can bail you out hard in a pinch and then you can re up on supplies. Maybe bring some cash with you in case you have to slide someone some grease money.

Duolingo is a great app to learn another language when you have well....not shit going on. Check it out. I don't know if you need an internet connection to use it or not. Mango language services is amazing as well and you get it free with an MWR online account.

And private....Please remember to drink water.

Here are some of the chargers that are known to perform "GOOD" or "BEST" with the Switch.

---------

Best

Charger|Price (USD)|Link|Notes
--|--|--|--
Nintendo Switch AC Adapter|$29.99|Amazon US|This is the only charger you should use with the dock but it's big and doesn't work great with any phones
Google 18W Pixel charger|$35|Google Store|More portable than Nintendo's charger, great at charging phones too, 6ft detachable cable
Google 60W USB-C charger|$59.99|Google Store|Bundled with Chromebook Pixel 2, great for laptops, very long 12ft cable
Apple 61W USB-C charger|$69|Amazon US, Apple|Bundled with 2016 13" MacBook Pro, no cable included
Apple 87W USB-C charger|$79|Amazon US, Apple|Bundled with 2016 15" MacBook Pro, no cable included
RAVPower 26800mAh USB-PD battery|$74.99|Amazon US|Might charge much slower unless you turn off the Switch before plugging it in. Avoid the included bad AC adapter.

Here are some other links for the Pixel phone charger: Best Buy, UK version

RAVPower 20100mAh USB-C battery|$57.99|Amazon US|
Apple 12W iPad USB charger|$19.99|Amazon US, Apple|Requires a USB A-to-C cable, better than any other USB-A chargers

Cables

I won't list prices here since they fluctuate a lot. Some of the chargers listed above have a non-removable cable. All the others (except the iPad charger) require a USB C-to-C cable.

USB C-to-C: For the Macbook, Google, SONEic, and battery pack chargers listed above. Here are a few on Amazon: AmazonBasics,
Anker, Cable Matters, Aukey.

USB A-to-C: The iPad charger is the only one that gives good charging speeds with these. The 5ft cable included with the Pro Controller works. Here are some others on Amazon: AmazonBasics, Anker, Cable Matters, Aukey.

No matter which charger you use, it doesn't matter whether the cable says it's USB 2.0, USB 3.0, or USB 3.1. They all charge at the same speed. Just make sure it has the correct plug shape on each end, that it has good reviews at a reputable merchant, and that it's long enough for how you want to use it.

Edit: I'll keep adding things as I remember them. I'm not adding the usual stuff like laptops, ipads, gym gear, etc, because those seem...common sense?

  • Cold meds with pseudoephedrine
  • Magnets (for lockers if you get one)
  • 3M command hooks of varying weight limits
  • Strong plastic coat hangars
  • 550 cord (I'd say no more than 30' of it)
  • Headlamp with red and white light (find one that you don't have to go "through" the white to get to the red!)
  • 2-3 good quality plastic clothes pins to hold curtains closed or some other task (the ones linked are identical to the ones at the Dollar Store for, I think, $4 for 12)
  • Knife sharpener
  • Pocket knife
  • Suction cup hook for the shower (if you use a bath scrubby)
  • Nail clippers and nail file
  • Small FA kit (bandaids, etc)
  • Small sewing kit with the right colours of thread
  • GoToobs for stuff like shampoo and body wash (and aloe gel if you burn)
  • Bose noise cancelling headphones (with a spare battery)
  • Camera (don't be the guy that brings a DSLR with 5 lenses)
  • Couple of power adapters if power is different
  • Water bottle (and denture cleaning tablets to clean it if there's no bottle brush)
  • Couple of locks (combo or keyed-alike, varying sizes)
  • Travel blanket
  • Inflatable neck pillow (the best one I've ever used)
  • Anker USB battery bank (love Anker products!)
  • Anker PowerPort
  • Depending on living accommodations, I also have a "travel kitchen" that I take with me that has a good Santoku knife, cutting board, pepper grinder and garlic press.
  • 2-3 tide pods because it could be a few days or a week before you get to the PX
  • If you know your sleeping arrangements, buy a "bed in a bag" for that bed size. Nothing like having your own good sheets to slide into after a rough day. Make sure you wash everything before heading over, so they're soft and ready to go when you get there.
  • A collapsable shoe organizer that you can use to store gitch, socks, t-shirts, etc, or even a collapsable sweater organizer (or two) if you want more horizontal space and less vertical.
  • If you're coming home or going somewhere on HLTA, don't forget to pack a civvie-pattern backpack. Don't be the guy wandering around a foreign airport wearing your day pack and combat boots in jeans.
  • Birthday/Anniversary/special event cards that you can mail from your location (shows you were thinking of them well in advance of your departure and before the event). Bonus points if it's a mushy anniversary card to a significant other, ensuring that your return is "extra special".

Not OP but I ended up ordering this battery. My hope is I can plug it into one USB, then use the two outputs of the battery. That’ll leave the other for a USB drive. This particular battery allows it to power the USBs while charging. So, in theory, it should still get ~2.1A from the single outlet to charge or passthrough even if the battery is dead. But when the battery is topped off, it should output even more (3.4A). I’m hoping all the times it’s not charging a phone will allow it to catch up and top off the battery.

If this doesn’t work, I’ll probably try to tap into a 12V source to power it.

There's nothing special about an SB powerbank, just needs DC out and the pro3/4/sb connector (and enough capacity for your particular needs). I have the QI and it can charge my SP3 2.5 times and my SB 1+ times.

Qi-infinity8482 cable included.

Intocircuit 26000mAh cable separate.

Lizone® QC 35000mAh cable separate.

eta /u/ygthb 's great suggestion:

MAXOAK 50000mAh 6 Port(5/12/20v)

u/schai · 10 pointsr/Ultralight

You sure these are lighter than just Anker's batteries?

Your setup: 9180mAh total/6.8oz = 1350mAh/oz

Anker PowerCore 10,000mAh: 10,000mAh/6.35oz = 1575mAh/oz

Anker Astro E1 6,700mAh: 6,700mAh/4.2oz = 1595mAh/oz

Anker PowerCore 3350mAh: 3,350mAh/2.56oz = 1308mAh/oz

It's neat but unless you really only need exactly 1 or 2 of those battery packs (and care about ~0.5oz savings), I'd say just stick with Anker due to convenience and safety.

EDIT: If you got a few of the exact same batteries, you could potentially build a small plastic attachment with a single circuit board and just swap out the batteries. That would be both cheaper and lighter. The extra USB ports are pretty unnecessary.

On my S3, I got a battery case, which easily doubled my battery life.

Here's something for the Nexus 5

It makes your phone a bit thicker, but I've never been that gung-ho on thickness. I'm going to throw my phone in a protective case no matter what, so it's not a bad deal.

(Actually, I just found out they make a battery case with an SD card slot for my moto x....I might have found myself a christmas present...)

(1) Foldable Keyboard

(1) USB C Hub

(1) 45W USB C Power Bank & (1) 45W Wall Charger

I'm also using this case for my iPad, and this screen protector.

Hope this helps!

I’ve got a solar charger for cheap on amazon, like $40. Unlimited power of the sun! And works for my phone, watch, camera, flashlights, vapes and more. Best camping companion, definitely recommend.

Edit: This is the one I have, only complaints are 5w is pretty slow and there’s no trickle charge mode (so if you want to charge something small like a vape or flashlight you need to have a phone charging at the same time), but you can’t beat the price for the size of panels and battery. But I’m sure if you spent a little more you could get quick and trickle charge etc

Edit 2: found this one with 18w!

u/AccidentallyCalculus · 5 pointsr/gpdwin

Something like this has it's own 25000 ma battery, which should charge the Win2 from empty twice with room to spare. I'm not sure how effective its ability to charge up via solar is though, but with multiple panels I imagine it's a bit more effective than those small cheap ones.

u/Boot_up · 5 pointsr/onebag

I have the Omni-C (https://www.omnicharge.co/products/omni-20-usb-c/), the Hyperjuice (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/hyperjuice-world-s-most-powerful-usb-c-power-bank/x/18292813#/) and Jackery Supercharge(https://www.amazon.com/Jackery-Supercharge-26800mAh-Compatible-g-MacBook/dp/B0791BGYS3/ref=sr_1_13?crid=1SZPBXXYZO97).

Omni would be my favorite but its shape just doesn't work well with my packing setup. On longer trips, when I check baggage, I bring it with me. But it sucks in laptop bags and EDC. I do like the setup and operation of it so much that I ordered the new Mobile series (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/omni-mobile-series/x/18292813#/). I will appreciate the wireless charging.

The Hyperjuice is pretty nice. Its newish to me but I've taken it on last 2 trips (both 5 day trips) and its performed well with no issues. It's the fastest of the 3 to recharge. It will probably be my main charger going forward. The 100W is nice for bigger laptops. I'm not a big fan of the lights to show levels, especially both of other 2 have % countdown in numbers.

The Jackery has been my main EDC. Its the smallest in physical size, has a numerical countdown and comes with a nice set of cables and carrying case. My only issue is it only has the 1 usb-c and 1 USB-A ports. I would like an extra port, since I share the pack with my lady. It's also the slowest to refill to full of the 3.

u/andreiknox · 5 pointsr/Romania

Eu mi-am luat o baterie externă, mi-e tare utilă.

u/Hentai_Bowtie · 5 pointsr/Nexus5

I have an Anker astro slim 2, 4500mAh and a really good size. I usually get slightly less than 2 full charges, but I also continue to use my phone while I use the battery.

I know someone who has an EasyAcc 5000mAh one, and I've never heard them say anything bad about it, and its rated at 2.5A, although I don't know if it really hits that or not.

u/staticaka · 5 pointsr/nexus4

I just use this It's cheap, lots of juice, and most importantly, it is light and slim. Doesn't make me feel like I'm carrying a brick.

u/BarryMacochner · 5 pointsr/pokemongo

Nevermind I'm retarded you said anker.

u/Malmortulo · 5 pointsr/pokemongo

I just picked up https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01191S0VY/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for $33, the reviews looked pretty solid and it does the adaptive fast charging for the galaxy phones if there's only one thing charging.

u/enerrotsen · 5 pointsr/Surface

I personally use:
RavPower 23000 mah
QI-Infinity Cable Dc Cable
However, the QI -Infinity 35000mah Includes the above cable and a larger battery pack that supports QC 3.0, and the included rapid charge can also charge a surface pro if you purchase another accessory cable. I am debating selling mine, to get the Qi-infinity version.

u/rougehuron · 5 pointsr/golf

I just keep one of these in my car and toss it in my bag when I get to the course.

u/dread_pirate_bobert · 5 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I've got a good one for you.

My wife and I work from home and we recently set off to travel the country and work from a trailer. You are in luck because I did a ton of research on making sure my laptop had juice.

Also if you decide if you do not like this stuff, you may want to change up your search terms because you don't want a generator. Search instead for a power bank

Here is the one that I purchased

It has worked really well for me and I used it daily. The downside is it is a 15 volt charge. This means it is suited to be charged by solar and is slow to charge. So make sure to charge it daily when you get home.

If you want to learn a bit more, there's some technical stuff below.

Another bit of warning to you. Any battery/powerbank is going to run off of DC current. Your laptop also runs off DC current. However, plugs to your house are AC current. So you have a power cord that converts AC into DC for your laptop to run. Everytime you convert from AC to DC you lose energy. So when you have a DC power bank, you have to convert to AC, then your charger converts it back from AC to DC. So you get WAY less battery life.

Because of this I also purchased a DC charger for my computer. It upped the power bank from one full charge to 3 full charges.

This is the DC charger I purchased. Make sure you look up how many watts your laptop needs to run.

Other power bank info

Try not to completely discharge the battery. Let it get to %25 then turn it off and recharge. It doesn't destroy the battery if you totally juice it, but it will lower its life expectancy every time.

Make sure to charge it if you don't expect to use it for a while

Don't drop it

Don't get it wet.

**Ninja edit - this is not a buy it for life...No battery storage system will ever be a buy it for life. At least not one that exists today. Batteries have an expected cycle limit. If you treat your batteries bad the cycle limit will be 200. If you treat it well it can be as high as 500.

Leaving on 8/23 out of happy isles for my JMT trip

I will be bringing an Anker 6700 and a UL solar panel. I tested the panel at home when I got it and it would fully charge the Anker in a day of just sitting facing up (not angled at the sun). This was in the winter as well, I would expect in the Sierra to get good coverage and sun intensity. It weighs less than 3 oz. Its super cheap but the build quality is not great, you really have to be careful with the USB connector or it will be damaged (most of the bad reviews are either people who damaged the USB connector or people that dont understand how much power a 10w solar panel is supposed to output). When you plug in or unplug a usb you have to hold the connector still.

The battery pack will charge my phone twice on its own. I dont plan on using it that much and I likely will only need another 1-2 charges to get me through the whole thing with airplane mode on, so if in non ideal testing conditions I got a full battery in a day, I think expecting a full battery over the course of the entire trip with it strapped to the top of my pack is reasonable. The only other piece of gear I need it for is my headlamp. I chose the 6700 because it is lighter than the Anker Powercore 5000. It does this by lacking quick charging, the input is less for charging the device from the wall, but the output to your device is the same. So if you plan to charge by outlet it is a terrible choice, but by charging via solar its perfect.

I can't recommend this enough. Specifically this is what I got but any of there power banks are boss, I got this one though because it charges using a USB c port instead of Micro USB.

u/wesinator · 4 pointsr/VanLife

Here's a 60w PD power bank that should charge in a couple hours. It only holds 20AH and when charging and discharging that quickly the number of cycles will be reduced. But for the money its the fastest charging one I could find on amazon so you could get a couple. You'll also need a 60w PD wall charger too. So if you already have a bunch of power banks you could get a duffel bag with a power strip in it and everything already plugged in. Just be careful of all the heat in the bag because those 60w chargers get pretty hot.

You could also get a 60w PD car charger or a low wattage pure sine wave inverter to charge while driving. Just make sure your 12v outlet is fused to handle that much power.

Edit: There's also this slightly larger capacity (26800mAh) power bank that comes with the charger, but it charges slightly slower (45w).

Edit Edit: There's also "portable power stations" like this that can charge at 100w. But at that price you might as well build yourself a dedicated solar system or at least install a battery isolator on your alternator and get a deep cycle lead acid.

$18 is not bad for 20,000mah ( you phone is approx 2500-4000 depending on phone.)

Also! Bring a 2-3 ft. Cable so you aren't messing with a 6 inch cable+battery bank+phone.

This one is super cheap and has been very reliable through two power outages and daily 6-10 mile walks (in which I drain my phone battery once or sometimes even twice). I have had a couple other brands that just stopped working for seemingly no reason.

ETA: The ones they sell in the impulse sections of stores are trash.

Li-PO battery inside gives better longevity. Cheaper than the ankers and bigger. Registering the products at their website gives you 18 months no hassle warranty with a life time warranty. No problems with it so far, have only made 4 full discharge cycles on it. So far, I love them both.

I had signal last year, it might go in and out depending on your provider though. It also might just take some time for messages to go through. I personally don't think a phone is really necessary. I think I called my family once during the festival to check in and my boyfriend used his phone a fair amount to text/meet up with our friends throughout the day. But, we always set meeting points for our camping group if we separated during the day, in case phones were dead. Like, in the morning we'd say "ok everyone meet at camp at 5pm" and if we wanted to go to different sets then, we'd say "ok everyone meet at the Lightning Stage sign at 9:30pm for x set" and so on.

I can't remember if they have charging stations but they likely do, I'd post on their facebook event and tag the Do Lab or whoever is listed as hosting the event page and ask!

I bought a portable/external charger battery to bring to fests. It looks like this, though I can't remember exactly which one I have (I just went for whatever was well reviewed). Just do your research, the more "mAh" it has, the more charges you will get out of it. You just plug your USB-to-phone-charger cable into it, it holds power. Then you can charge a couple times at least when you're at camp. :)

u/DaughterOfIsis · 3 pointsr/ElectricForest

The buses did have outlets last year, but I wouldn't count on it because they worked only half of the time for some reason. I would suggest buying a battery pack for the weekend anyway because your phone is going to die super fast when it's exposed to the sun. I would suggest this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01191S0VY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_FRZdzbCBXAY7M

Edit: I missed the part where you said you were planning on buying one anyway, haha whatever

The Switch can charge via it's USB-C port, there are already existing portable battery packs that will be compatible with it. I've personally got https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01191S0VY on order already

Excellent question -- although the T470 allows for swapping its external battery while the internal keeps the lights on. You might find yourself happiest by stocking one or more 72Wh 61++ batteries. From personal experience, using an external battery with extra cords while travelling is a nuisance. A big nuisance. You will need more desk space and so on. Not cool. When I was still using a 12" machine ten years ago, I found a slim battery matching its size and so it was under it and that was good. I am unaware of any slim batteries to fit right under the T470. It would need to be hell of a slim TBH, for example there's an Anker which is 184 x 124 x 15mm which is about one half in both directions of the T470 area. I am not quite sure the laptop would be very stable with it -- but if you do have a 61++ in the laptop, who knows, it might just level it out. Or you might be able to jerry-rig some feet if it doesn't. But we are really going off the chart here. (As an aside, note how PackedPixel avoids taking any desk space at all. They are on it.)

With that aside.

I am sure there are many products on the market but I am only aware of the Razer Power Bank which can deliver 2.25A at 20V over USB C. 150 bucks only buys you 12,800mAh. That's not cool.

However, if you consider the T470 also has the good ole' rectangular tip, then practically all laptop external batteries are on the table. For example https://smile.amazon.com/Poweradd-23000mAh-Multi-Voltage-Portable-Notebooks/dp/B015OAJFOC/ will do, even if it doesn't ship with the rectangular tip, a multitude of converter plugs from the old to the new are readily available on eBay and Amazon for about 1-2 bucks. This or any other similar will be below 100 bucks for the roughly maximum capacity FAA allows (gosh, people say it's the TSA that limited the battery capacity, they might enforce it but it's not them who limited it). There are 50 000 mAh monstrosities for those who do not fly.

And of course the Portable AC Outlet Battery Pack by ChargeTech will charge everything happily between green earth and blue sky. It has a price to match the capabilities. And converting the voltage to AC just to be converted back to DC is ... not efficient. This is a last resort and for that it's horrendously expensive.

The wiki will lead you to everything there is to know about the win, there's also my post in this sub about how I personally set up my win.

As for reinstalling the OS, I've found that to the best of my knowledge, nothing resembling spyware is packed in on the win, the installed OS works just fine for me, and you won't have to worry about making sure you've got all the drivers right.

The bios tweaks and other performance enhancements do make a difference, but if your game is running at something like 15 FPS, chances are no amount of tweaking is going to double that performance. With some tweaks, you could see something like a 5FPS increase, which could be the difference between a playable game and a slideshow on this machine. I personally am very comfortable with tweaking and modifying things, and I'm willing to figure my way through the instability or other side-effects as they happen, some people might not be.

If you want the most stable win, keep the original bios of the aluminum lid version and don't make any modifications at all.

Keep in mind this machine isn't exactly top of the line in any aspect. It's a bit faster than something like the 2011 MacBook pro in terms of CPU power, and the GPU is about as fast as something like a 9800GT from back in the day. It might run some newer games acceptably, but expect to need to get those games running with a lower resolution. The sweet spot for this thing is games from the past, and the recent past, and most 3D games from 2010-2013 or so can run at lowered settings with a good average of 30FPS. Games from the Xbox and PS2 era, fable lost chapters, final fantasy X remastered, Halo, GTA 3, GTA:SA etc. All run at a minimum of 30fps and very likely will hit 60 if you don't artificially cap them.

As for accessories, this will fit into cases for the 2dsxl and 3dsxl. I recommend a 128gb Samsung fit USB drive and a battery bank capable of 2.4A charging. If you're carrying it in a case or bag, consider something like an [Aukey 30,000mah portable charger] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01IN9N2JA/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1502135605&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=30000+mah+portable+charger&dpPl=1&dpID=31YmtVUlOBL&ref=plSrch) if you're going to be using the win for an extended period of time, or even so you can charge it while it's in your bag so it's ready to go.

Be patient with it, ask or search around to see if someone has gotten a particular game running and at what settings, and feel free to ask around the sub here if you've got questions, I check the sub a few times a day, and more likely than not someone in here can probably get you sorted out!

I use Anker products and have never had an issue. Pick up this for my two week vacation as just an incase I need extra power when I'm not near an outlet. Used it on a road trip and didn't have any issues.

Currently use this as my wall charger. Never had any issues with it even with charging 3 devices simultaneously.

u/Generic_Name_Here · 3 pointsr/Ultralight

After going through the research, this is what I ended up buying from Anker. It seemed to have the best form factor and power to weight ratio:

Anker [Upgraded to 6700mAh] Astro... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XS9RMWS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

If I had to go on a longer trip I’d probably snag 2 of these.

This is also handy; super short iPhone cable:

AmazonBasics Double Nylon Braided... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F9T4KYJ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I've never actually used a power bank but have used lots of other products from Anker and was very happy with the quality. I think the RAVpower units are good as well but personally to consider Aukey a step below Anker in terms of quality.

I'd recommend this if you just want a cute lil wee one that you can carry around with you and will still charge your phone a couple times: https://www.amazon.ca/Upgraded-Anker-Candy-Bar-High-Speed-Technology/dp/B06XS9RMWS/

But you can get ones with much higher capacity and faster charging speeds if you spend $10-20 more - depends how portable you need it to be. Just search "Anker power bank"

Earwigs would be absolutely ideal, but sadly the production (an indie short) is overbudget and can't cough up the ~$250/day to compensate me for the rental of a basestation and an earpiece.

A portable battery with AC is an excellent idea! Fairly sure Electric had you use something like this, which I'm all but certain this barebones outfit won't have, but I'll check. Not sure how they'll power their lights. I might buy a cheapo Amazon battery and pair it with a speaker. Hopefully it'll suffice since the car playback scenes are short.

u/ItsAlkron · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I use AUKEY power bank and it is amazing. I can charge my Switch while playing several times. And bonus use it for other things like my phone. Well worth it. Have taken it on flights several times too and saved me when playing high battery usage games.

u/Slamdunkin48 · 3 pointsr/Switch

The switch definitely has the possibility for many accessories. I'll link all the stuff I've bought at the end because I would recommend all of them

There is built in storage but not enough. I will recommend any micro SD card that's either 64 or 128 gb depending on how many games you plan on downloading. If you're going mostly mobile eshop games would definitely be more convenient.

As for other items, I love my pro controller but its not a necessity. I also only use it at home so it might not be for you.

You need a case for it, no two ways about it. The good news is that they are pretty cheap. There's cases that just carry the console, that carry the console and some extras, and that carry pretty much everything you could want to carry. Unless you're taking the dock often, I would just suggest a case with some extra storage.

I'd suggest a battery bank. There are a million options out there, and most of it has to do with cost. Just buy a size you like from a trusted brand like anker, ravpower, or aukey.

You also need a screen protector, because the plastic screen is not exactly durable. Anything works, but I would recommend tempered glass.

I'm positive they just made these. That could just be a simple cell backup power with usb. Then you plug the USB of the LED setup into the charger. They have kits but you will have issues bending to make the letters. I suggest finding led strips that just connect to each other.. [or possibly use connectors like this.]
(https://www.amazon.com/LightingWill-Solderless-Conductor-Connector-Single/dp/B01DM7EXX2/ref=zg_bs_17534489011_39?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=ECGPGY0SH33KK8CHJ6WX) Once its all made you can then power it with a usb power bank. You will likely have to put a resistor of some sort to prevent the LED from taking too much power from the USB power bank. (unless the leds come with their own power / controller etc)

A good PSU is essential and for road use I've kinda standardised on a 21,000mA power bank by Jackery. This can supply up 3.4A on each of the 2 ports. What's good about this one us that it can be charged while it's being used and it's just a battery - not a wannabe flashlight. Pump, a roll of Life Savers, phone (switch to Dexcom G6 if you can now that you're on X2--Basal-IQ is amazing and Control-IQ is going to be even better). That's it.

Extra infusion set, reservoir, syringe, needle, half-used vial of insulin in my bag when I'm at work or out for the whole day. I don't really keep it with me, just close enough that I don't have to drive an hour to get to it. I figure if I have a pump failure I have a solid hour before it's even remotely an issue (better to fix it sooner of course).

Also, check out the Jackery Bolt USB battery pack. Built-in charge cables, and it sits nicely in my pocket next to my pump while it is charging. That way I am not tethered in place while the pump charges. The battery stays in my bag too with the infusion sets, etc.

I do tweak the sliders for synth filter and envelopes, organ stops, and MIDI control. I certainly wouldn’t be twiddling the iPhone for changing dynamics mid-song, but I guess a $200 markup is a lot if a program change can get you by. I think the synths and organs on the NC2 are samples instead of emulations so they wouldn't be aa tweakable.

USB type A packs can be really large for cheap. I have this one and it can play zelda for 10 hours straight, but takes ~14 hours to recharge.

I just ordered this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IVMXW7G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), haven't received it yet. There was a "flash sale" where it was about 20% less than the current price so it seemed too good to pass up. They sell the same thing without the charger for ~$10 less, but you're going to want a quick charger. I haven't seen many (any?) other batteries at that capacity with qc3 input, but there are a few 10k ones on Amazon.

As for the N6... it's water resistant (the internal components have "nano coating", whatever that means) and I'm not planning to use it directly over bodies of water. Other than that I'm just going to be careful and probably put it in a ziplock bag if the weather gets crazy. I'm more concerned about dropping it on a rock, and there's not much that can be done about that short of using a tether.

u/Ouma_Shu · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Dunno if you already bought one but look at this one as well. I have it and it's great. When travelling I plug in the switch and phone when low on battery. Price for size is very competitive compared to Rav and Anker, and fast charges if you have an android compatible phone that has it.

u/iLL_S_D · 2 pointsr/Vive

I'd say it really depends on how you want to carry/mount it. If you don't plan on HMD mounting it and you don't care about weight, I've seen batteries as big as 30,000 work. If you are planning on mounting it to the HMD I'd recommend sticking with something as close to the stock HTC battery as possible like this. Also, if you have access to a 3D printer this is also helpful.

u/madcatandrew · 2 pointsr/pcgaming

I am not sure how well it will work but someone on amazon says you can use them and charge them at the same time, so possibly by plugging 2 together with usb-c and running the qc3.0 port on one to the headset will double capacity roughly? Here is the battery I use. I don't see any larger capacity options yet on amazon.

u/Imaflyingpapaya · 2 pointsr/Vive

I'll put this here so its near the relevant comment.

I'm using this bank and this pack to hold it. Slots in perfectly to the 3.5 inch version.

u/coreygriffin · 2 pointsr/Vive

Not to mention the TPCast is only ~$30 cheaper than the official first party supported adapter.

I have the Vive wireless adapter on an OG Vive with the deluxe audio strap and have noticed that it gets uncomfortable on my scalp about 2 hours in. I have a piece of foam between the headstrap and the adapter to absorb the heat. When I say uncomfortable I mean I notice it's getting hot, it's not exactly giving me 3rd degree burns.

Also the official battery does not last 6 hours (at best you're getting about 3 hours), however you can use 3rd party batteries that support QC 3.0. I have a Anker battery that costs less than the Vive one and lasts twice as long. The only caveat is that it takes forever to charge. I typically charge it overnight.

I don't use one. I camp with powered tent sites. I almost went this route last year but the site next to me let me run a line to my tent from their site. This was my back up plan if I hadn't been able to use their power. I had looked at a cpap battery back up a couple years ago and it was $500, the battery and inverter would have been $150. I know prices have come down since then and I was going to buy a battery bank as a CPAP backup, like this power bank but haven't needed to buy it. I liked the idea power inverter since it was multifunctional, but don't know how long it'll run my CPAP. I need to see how much my CPAP draws and run the calc to figure it all out.

USB C charging was such a mess when the standard was first released (former Nexus 6P owner) that I'm still leery of using any charger that's not from a well-known brand. Most of the issues have been resolved, but there are still products available that aren't compliant with USB C Power Delivery or with the USB C spec in general. Granted Lenovo has protection circuitry built-in to protect against bad chargers, but I still wouldn't want to risk damaging my laptop to save a few dollars.

I was specifically talking about the product linked at the top comments:
link. This battery pack appears to come with a wire attached, which you must then use adapters to connect to whatever phone. Upon second look, it also includes a USB out, which you are suggesting use of.

I still wonder if there could be a product that could do both--wireless and wired. A wireless charger with a USB out so if you did carry the battery in your pocket, purse, briefcase, backpack etc. you could quickly slip it in and know that it's charging during your commute.

This is the absolute best cellphone battery I've seen. They stand behind their product. Charges my cell twice on one charge. Not bulky, fits right behind your phone. Micro USB folds into it so you don't have to carry another cable. Lights tell you how much juice it has left.

u/keetoe · 1 pointr/MotoX

Have you considered an external battery? this one has a built in micro-usb cable.) I know I've linked their stuff like 10 times on reddit but I swear I don't work for them, I just really like their products.

u/moelester518 · 1 pointr/Android

There are good battery packs that aren't bulky and can get multiple charges out of it. I have this and all it really changes is my phone feels bulkier in my hand.

u/CptTesla · 1 pointr/Nexus5

At the age that most of them are, I would say your best bet is to carry a small usb battery and a short charging cable with you.
The other thing that I do is to try and keep it topped up throughout the day with the a very fast charger. The best I've seen are the blackberry chargers like this one. If you look around amazon and ebay, you can find them new for around 10 bucks. I picked one up a few years ago, and it's my favorite charger.

I haven't been able to find a replacement genuine OEM battery for my nexus, and I don't want to risk a knockoff hurting my phone, so I make due.

u/icru3l · 1 pointr/Nexus5

Something like this? The Nexus 5 has a soldered on battery that can't be replaced easily without desoldering and soldering back and AFAIK there aren't any extended battery packs standalone (without the case). You probably saw something for another phone or just an extended battery case.

u/LemonyArtist · 1 pointr/Android

I was going to get the zerolemon external battery case for the Nexus 5. I did that for my s3 and I'm never lookin' back, so battery isn't a huge issue for me. I mostly need speed and strength as I use GPS a lot. Camera, and battery life isn't something important to me. Cheap, strong and fast is a strength.

I really like this case It is a little expensive but I LOVE that it has a 2nd battery in it. This has survived a 30+ ft drop / throw onto concrete with just a small scuff to the case. I also had an issue with the belt holder ( totally my fault screwing around with it) broke it. Asked the vender if they sold the spring for the belt clip and they sent a new belt clip no questions asked. This is a HUGE case but being a bigger guy I have issues with out thicker cases.

Honestly, you'd be better off finding a place to charge your devices (generator or an outlet that still has power) and then being very conservative with usage.

It is obviously too late now, but a $60 external battery would have powered that 5c for quite some time. A 5c has a battery that is just under 1600mAh.

For $11, shipped, you could get this battery that charges it more than 5 times.

I'm a professor, so I'm always carrying more than I can fit in my pockets (laptop, notepads, sometimes piles of student papers, etc.). I have a messenger bag that's very simple with not much organization. The main compartment is divided into two parts, one of which has a couple of loops for pens and a small pocket. There's a open pocket on the back of the bag for things that you might want to access quickly. And there are small pouches on the sides of the bag for sunglasses or other small things.

My laptop goes in the part of the main compartment without pen loops. A couple of notepads go in the other part of the main compartment, along with a small case which fits in the small pocket and holds earbuds and a USB drive. Student papers go in that compartment when I need to carry them. My sunglasses go in one of the side pouches (the one I can easily reach while wearing the bag), and a pocket knife goes in the other side pouch (or in my pocket if I'm expecting to use it a lot). The back pocket holds a carrying case with several pens, a small power bank and cables, and a small multi-tool. I also have a small flashlight that can fit in various places depending on how accessible I want it to be, but usually is stored in the carrying case. (I like this carrying case specifically because it lies flatter than most others I've seen, so it's not uncomfortable against my back while in the back pocket of my messenger bag.)

both of them charge fast enough that I can not only keep my phone on an open the entire time, but itll actually gain charge while playing. I bought the 6,000mah first then found the 20,000 on sale on Amazon the very next day. If I had to choose only one I would just buy the 20,000 because its like 10 bucks more expensive right now for 3x the charge. I liked this one alot more than any others I've come across because it charged quick, had two ports (still charged quick while both were in use) and it has a flashlight great for festival camping. That's what I mean. Regular battery packs only output 5v @ 2A, what you need is a special Li-ion battery pack that's capable of outputting ~12V @ 3-4A. Like this.

My T460s and phone are currently running off one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/Poweradd-Pilot-23000mAh-External-Smartphones/dp/B015OAJFOC

...it'll happily charge my X230 & X201s too, came with all the relevant adaptors, but I got it to make up for the battery life downgrade. No fires yet.

Some points you may want to consider first:

  • You lose the battery time remaining indicator. It's not a huge deal mind, since you'll probably have a full internal battery when the power pack gives up
  • These power pack get very close to the limit of what's allowed on flights.
  • The adaptors stick out of the laptop much more than a normal plug, which can get annoying if it sticks out into the aisle on trains, e.g.

But I find it useful enough it comes everywhere. I can also charge it with the thinkpad AC adapter, so I don't need to bring one just for the battery.

Will this work well enough?

I'm the type that gets battery anxiety when my SP4 gets near 50%, which happens way too fast (they really should make battery life a priority with the next one, even if it means a slightly thicker/heavier device), but the QI Infinity power bank has solved that. Works great.

It's a bit pricey, but I needed a second charger anyway so I just had to spend a little more and get a massive power pack included in the price.

u/overzeetop · 1 pointr/Surface

I had a battery I used for my old laptop that output 12v, so I just picked up one of these: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZBI1IH0/

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0183UJ2SY/ is rated at 3.4x the size of the Surface Pro 4 battery, and 1.8x the Surface Book combined batteries; about 1.2-1.4 charges for the SB given normal charging efficiency. At 615g, it's a bit over 1/2 the weight of a SP4+Typecover, and make the whole kit 1.8kg. For comparison, the rMBP13 is 1.6kg and the rMPB15 is 2.0kg. A SB is 1.5kg, so this would push it to 2.1kg - about 100g/4 oz more than a rMBP15.

Spent a month in New Zealand, I'm on my second month in Australia, headed to SE Asia in a couple weeks.

I bought the i5/8gb/256gb model and a 200gb micro SD card.

Battery hasn't been a problem, though it's no marathon man. Honestly, I bought a USB battery pack and wish I had just gone ahead and gotten this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0183UJ2SY/ref=mp_s_a_1_16?qid=1458765752&sr=8-16&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=qi+power+bank

Not because I have had trouble with the SP4 specifically but because there are times when it's nice to get a boost and it'd be convenient to be able to top off the Pro as well. Since I'm carrying the battery pack anyway, it may as well cover all devices.

If you have an MS store nearby (or, hell, just a best buy or something), just ask if they can let you try one in your lap. They might have an employee model or can detatch it for you.

So I'm travelling the world and working along the way. I'm just using my surface pro 4 and it's external battery (RAVPower 23000 mAH) for the last 10 months now and I just walked into my room to a bloated battery. I didn't bring the original charger as it took up more space. Now I'm afraid that I'll be running out of a way to recharge soon, it doesn't look like MS officially sells Surfaces in Colombia and being on the road a lot I rather have a new battery pack than just a charger, although admittedly I now see the use in having one as a backup.

I found the Qi-Infinity battery-https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0183UJ2SY) which charger can be used directly on the Surface Pro too. So that looks like a perfect option, not sure yet if they deliver here (in time) but I'll hopefully hear back from them about that soon. If they don't deliver or if there is a good alternative I can find in the area I'd love to hear about it.

Help... i'm not sure if I can still charge using that battery pictured above.

A few observations!

You could drop 3-ish oz by switching your headlamp to the Nitecore 20/25 with the UL kit. You have a powerbank with you, so why carry something that uses disposables?

Switch from AirPods to the included Earpods to shave 1.3oz, although cords do suck a whole bunch.

Speaking of cords, you're not counting your charging cable. :-P Since you haven't bought the Anker 10k, you could take a look at the Jackery Bolt 6000mah. Lightning and micro USB cables included, only 5.3oz, but obviously less charging power. So, if you are out for week+ treks might not work for you. But for 3, 4, 5 day trips? Would probably be more than enough. I own this and it's been working awesome. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A6L85CC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

13.1 oz for fuel? Unless you're going out for more than 3-4 days at a time and boil multiple cups with every meal, I doubt you'd need more than a 4oz can, dropping it to like 7.3oz total. (You're also counting your ENTIRE 13.1 oz as consumable, which the can itself isn't....)

Take your ass pad, it's worth the weight. If you don't want the one you have, buy the smaller and lighter one from LiteSmith. https://www.litesmith.com/folding-sit-pad/

I've been using it since release (and it regularly goes on sale for $35) around the nexus 6P launch and it's perfect.

Plus, the anker only outputs max 2.4A per port, but USB C can do 3A, which this bank can do. So it'll charge things a little quicker

Ignore that bit. Anker did a horrible job with their photo showing max per port amps. They clarify it below. It's maxed at 2.4/USB-A, and 3A/USB-C. So get whichever you want

This is the age old question: is there a battery bank that can charge a Nintendo Switch and iPhone X at the same time? I’ve spent a weeks worth of online research trying to figure out. No luck.

The plan is to buy one battery bank for all my devices and stick it in my tech bag. The Nintendo Switch needs that USB C to USB C Charge, and I plan on picking up an iPhone X during the holidays, which can use a quick charging usb A 3.0 Port. I don’t want to get a battery case for the iPhone X because I want to remain to that sleek new design Apple was going for, and I currently have a pretty bulky phone and want to downsize it (iPhone 6 Plus with Mophie Battery Case). Same thing applies to my Nintendo Switch. Keep it elegant.

Most banks on the market only have one USB C Port (most likely input and output), along with one or two usb 2.0/3.0 ports. So I’ve found some options for around $50 that have a quick charging 3.0 port (which works for the iPhone X, 8, 8 Plus) and a separate USB C port for the Switch, but I’m not sure if I can charge both devices at once. If they can, how well? These three, based off the descriptions and people’s Q&As, supports charging the iPhone and the Switch. But nothing on BOTH. Here are the links:

I don't see why this portable battery couldn't charge the switch. It specifically has a USB-C charging output as well as a USB 12v 1.2amp charging output for qualcom 3.0 supported devices.

Its even advertised to charge USB-C laptops. If it can power a laptop I'd be surprised if it can't charge the Switch.

u/Fenrir1536 · 1 pointr/gpdwin

Oh in that case I'm not sure what to tell you, I haven't used my WIN 1 in a while but from what I remember their was no weirdness when fully charged while playing. I used this Ravpower battery and charger for charging both the WIN1 and the battery and had no problems with either.

u/bmf666 · 1 pointr/GalaxyNote9

I researched a lot of the anker models and surprisingly no, they do not all support quick charge 2.0/3.0. So make sure to verify if you choose one of their models. I ended up going with a Ravpower unit that has QC 3.0 support (which is backwards 2.0 compatible) and supports fast charging of the battery itself (a feature not all battery packs have, and to me a nice to have). It's a 20100 mAh unit, and it's massive, like the size of an old laptop power brick. Bigger than I would like, but I want to make sure on long trips I can charge my phone, tablet, and possibly my Switch. This is what I went with: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IVMXW7G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Another small arguable benefit to that one is it supports USB-C input as well as micro-USB, which I thought might come in handy since most of the time I'll have just a USB-C cable around for the Note9.

u/DiabloConQueso · 1 pointr/raspberry_pi

I've done this. It's not trivial, but it's also not all that difficult, either. I'm going to assume that you want a live view of the device (meaning you'd be able to view where the car currently is located, and track it in near-real-time), not a data logged view (meaning you'd drive around, offload the data later, then view it).

This is going to be a very high-level overview; you will likely require some kind of coding and database experience, along with familiarity with the Google Maps JavaScript API. It would simply be beyond the scope of this sub (and my willingness) to post every line of code and every step of setting things up.

First, the equipment you'll need for the Pi:

  • A working pi, obviously, with OS installed and configured
  • A USB GPS receiver (like this one)
  • A USB 2G/3G/4G dongle (like this one, with associated SIM card (if applicable) and airtime

First, you need to get the Pi communicating on the mobile network with the 2G/3G/4G aircard. You can follow the instructions here, but realize that tutorial references a specific 3G breakout board for the Pi. You're welcome to use that instead of the 3G one I linked above.

Once you have the Pi communicating on the mobile network, you need to get the GPS receiver working. You can follow a tutorial for that here, realizing again that this tutorial references a Pi-specific GPS receiver, but should work with the USB one I linked above.

Once you have those two things, you'll need to set up some kind of server somewhere to receive the data from the Pi (I used a standard LAMP setup: Linux, Apache, mySQL, php). A simple home-based server accessible over the internet, or perhaps an Azure or Google Cloud VM would work. In my solution, I simply did this:

  • On the Pi, write a script that, on a timed interval (30 secs or so, adjust to your liking), requested GPS data from the USB GPS device, parsed it, then sent that info over the 3G network to the server. The server would then take that data, parse it out again, and insert it into a database (mySQL for simplicity).

  • Then, I created a web page on the server that overlaid this GPS data from the mySQL database on top of a Google Map. I wrote it such that it would automatically update the GPS data on the map on a timed interval, so I could load the page and watch the slowest game of reverse-Pac-Man ever, so to speak.

  • Then, I configured the Pi to execute any scripts, GPS daemons, and 3G connectivity processes on boot, so that I could simply power up the Pi headless (using a USB battery pack, like this, for portability) and start tracking immediately.

Like I said, it's a straightforward list of steps to take, but requires some coding and database knowledge in order to completely pull together all the pieces. There might be "plug-and-play" solutions available (I did this back with the original Pi B, so some years ago), but I did it all custom just as a proof-of-concept.

I work closely with telemetrics and GPS tracking as my profession, and honestly, unless you're looking to hone your skills or have a hobby/pet project, there are off-the-shelf solutions that would get you up and running with vehicle/personnel tracking much, much quicker and easier.

Huge and expensive compared to lighter options.

A lot of USB-C chargers are clearly designed for laptops. In my opinion.

I use a small charger for power in case of emergency. Something with A to C charger has been fast enough for me. I usually leave it plugged in and in my pocket and my phone is charged quite a bit the next time I notice.

That more than meets the needs of the Quest. I am not personally familar with that brand. If I don't know the brand, I usually stick with items with the Amazon's Choice marker as that means that Amazon had not had a lot of returns on the item.

I stick it in a jacket pocket and the cable just hangs across to the light on the handlebars. You could also use a velcro strap or small bag to attach the battery to the bike, if you want.

And the nice thing is that the battery pack can also be used to charge your phone when you're away from home. I chose the light after I already had the battery pack.

Personally I think it is worth it, especially if you do what I did. I bought mine off ebay from bestbuy as an open box, cost me 850ish dollars plus tax and an upgrade to next day shipping, which brought the total up to about $950.

At that price, for me its unarguable. If it had been like 1200 or so, i might of had to think about it. But at that price, it seems like one of the best choices out there.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Open-Box-Excellent-Dell-G7-15-6-Laptop-Intel-Core-i7-8GB-Memory-NVI/323328281085?hash=item4b47de09fd:g:RQYAAOSwx3dblLBx:rk:2:pf:1&frcectupt=true

It was indeed open box but mine came in perfect condition. You might not like this option, but it is a way to get it much cheaper. The sale price seems to change every so often

But despite the open box, I was able to get the full premium plus warranty from dell for it for roughly 4 years (3 years 7 months or so, due to the fact it was open box I believe.)

I think the ram should be upgraded however at least if you get into ram intensive tasks. And they do offer a 16gb ram openbox and new option from the bestbuy ebay store, and I am sure if you hunt around you will find an openbox at a physical bestbuy location if you look.

If anything my ram was the only down side to this buy. But I intended to upgrade this anyhow and will be using crucial's compatibility guarantee program to make my purchase of 32gb of ram. This ram issue might not be a problem for you, however I run VM's for work and genuinely need the extra ram for things to actually run or the VM's have a high likelihood of not running or crashing.

I also dropped a 2 TB seagate firecuda hard-drive (SSHD) in my laptop with no problem ( I disabled UEFI secure boot and made sure the bios was up to date, and it worked perfectly on the first try). 96$ from amazon. I got probably 1tb worth of games on it already :P.

Going with an 8gb model gave me a few advantages as well, for example this laptop seems to come with dual sticks of ram no matter if you buy the 16gb or 8gb model. IF you want to upgrade to 32gb of ram, expect to throw away the old ram. Also the 8gb version came with a 256gb ssd, which is not a bad size and one less thing I have to worry about upgrading. Consider that I have used 98gb on my installation already...

So overall for my particular case, if I went with the 16gb version, in the matter of a month or two the following things would of happened.

I would of thrown out the ram, as I need the 32gb of ram and cannot reuse the old sticks in this particular latptop after an upgrade.

I would of thrown out the SSD, because just my base install I have done now would of ate all of the storage space. For reference I am using 98gb of ssd space, and have only 1 game installed on the ssd (csgo)

And I would of thrown out the HDD, because my base install has already used the entire storage space that drive would of provided. For reference I used about 1tb of storage already but I do have like most of my games installed (something like 47 games). I did that because I can lol, The other 1tb is dedicated to VM's and production related stuff.

Your end result might not be the same, if you are not intending to use it for the type of work like I do, you might have an advantage going with the 16GB model instead. Each person's usage and goals will differ.

There are some things to consider however

This thing does not have the ultimate battery life of like 10 hours you can find on other laptops.

I find that it lasts anywhere from 3~4 or so.

You cannot play games while on battery, at least not on anything close to high or medium settings without huge frame rate drops. And expect gaming to eat battery life much quicker.

I am saying this because, if you have never had a gaming laptop, you should be informed to expect this. My alienware had the same issue on both performance and battery life.

I did find a way to cheat this, by buying one of these.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0713XJBG2

it gave me at least an hour maybe hour and a half of gaming time, and I suspect it will give 4~8 more hours of normal web browsing usage but I haven't tried it fully yet. It can be very useful if you are mobile and need to use your laptop for production. However I don't think you can bring it on carry-on at an airport due to the restrictions of battery sizes by TSA, you should be able to put it in checked luggage however.

Other than the battery life, I personally cannot find too many cons about this laptop. It seems to be a solid performer overall, and has all the modern features you need like the fancy new thunderbolt connection (40Gbps), and support for NVME high speed drives as well as a regular 2.5" drive (as long as its 7mm or less in thickness) . And the build quality seems very good.

Its not very flashy and the cost to performance ratio is way up there. It has the amazing 10 series nvidia graphics card and ddr4 ram and the latest generation intel processor with an insane 12 cores and even turbo boosts on 6 cores up to something like 3.9 ghz which is pretty fast.

Overall its not a bad piece of kit, and I don't think you can build a desktop for much cheaper than this with very similar specs. That is to say, I don't think its way over priced. Unlike the alienware 15 with almost the same specs for 1800

I will say however,

One of the other options is the Acer predator

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Overclockable-Aeroblade-PH315-51-78NP/dp/B07CTHLX8C

I might of made your decision harder, but there are videos comparing these two and some others at the same time. It might be worth the look at them, overall your going to have to decide what you like more. They basically come down to preference. There are a few laptops with these specs at this price range. For me, the dell has the understated look that can pass for professional, the capability I needed, and a brand I really trust, so it was a no brainier.

But at the end, they are all going to be great bang for your buck, the pricing on this and the other direct competitors to this laptop are solid imo.

I don't know about the reliability of the others, I don't remember having to replace lots of parts in the other brands. Only HP has really had some serious bunks that I can remember, I changed way more HP motherboards than any other laptop. But I have owned Dell's and they never failed me so I stick by what I know is usually solid..

No matter what you get, if you intend to keep it many years. You need to get the warranty and max it out if you can. If you intend to keep it as long as you say, you will want accident protection and everything, and make sure you read reviews on the warranties. You don't want to find out after you break it that the warranty you got is bulls#$%. Dell has a lot of business contracts, and they have solid warranties there, and as a result those solid warranties trickle down to consumers as well. I know I've had nothing but the best warranty support from them.

On a side note, here are a few few recommended accessories to protect your laptop no matter what you buy, its not a bad idea to get something like the following

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071HBDDW8

Hardened glass screen protector

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DA2OMKS

Water and dust Resistant keyboard cover to give an extra step against a drop of water penetrating the keyboard and ruining the motherboard underneath.

It should be noted that I do not get paid for any of these items, you'll notice none of them are links to a compensated account somewhere.

I just like dell products and have had good experiences with them. This is just another case of a product that I think is great and worth the money.

For a 22v(ish) lipo stepped down to 12V (for use with a laptop car charger), you would at minimum just have to buy a pack of automotive crimp connectors and a pre-soldered XT60 connnector, then just crimp on the 2+2 input+output wires on the buck converter. A low voltage buzzer would be good too.

(The reason it would probably be easiest to run 22V->12V->19V instead of just 22V->19V would just be for added protection from chinesium buck converters, swappable batteries, and not having to muck with charger-sensing circuitry with makes like Lenovo)

Although one of those laptop power banks or AC power banks would do the job just fine with a compatible lappy as well.

So what's the problem that I'll run into with a not-smart isolator just that it won't top off? I did read the alt+solar link but still trying to understand. Also is this one smart? Ty.

Have you considered two battery packs around 10000 mah each? I'm using an older Anker Astro E3 10000 and an Anker 13000C. One can charge my phone/tablet while the other is charging. Both are pocketable on their own, but I tend to keep both in my briefcase/laptop bag unless I need to walk with my phone while it's charging.

u/aeronix · 1 pointr/Switch

Yep, I personally own this one, does just fine for the Switch. You could always get something with a higher capacity, but this also fits in my Switch's travel case.

Solar charger or alternatively a portable battery pack similar to this could be useful.

I have an different version of the anker battery pack and I have used it in a pinch with my pass through ego battery. Charge all batteries when you have power and hope you can get to an outlet before they all run out.

u/ItsIonic · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

While I didn't buy any of these particularly for the Switch, would I be good to go with any of these? What can I expect from them? To slowly charge to the point where it just prolongs the switch's battery from 3 hours to say, 4, or 5? To quickly charge while playing? Thanks

A iPhone 5 with brightness turned way down and energy saver turned on. Probably two hours.

I put the phone by my leg when I walk so that it turns the screen off as it will vibrate when a pokemon pops. I already know where the stops are unlike the herds of zombie sheeple that stare blindly at there phones as they shuffle along.

..

I also carry this for the family (three phones) --> { https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012NIQG5E } it will do six to seven full phone charges before dying.

I gave this to the kid --> { https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A6L85CC } it gives him two full charges before dying.

..

EDIT: On a side note, carry a small flashlight. It saves you from bumping around and falling down, which will not help your dating life at all. I watched a guy (probably 20-25) walk into a playground ladder because he couldn't look up for 3 seconds. I couldn't help but laugh.

Is it just accesories? The fastest way to get charge is to go to usb-c to usb-c. Correct? But looking at the images I just see USB-A ports in the images. If i want to to do usb-c to usb-c I would have to use the port that is used for charging? But it says input? does that mean it can't output?

Just wanted some clarfication.

You can always charge from your car if you have one.

But honestly, you should have a battery backup for this exact purpose.

If you live in a disaster prone area and Tallahassee is as it’s had 3 hurricanes in 3 years, you need one.
