But in this case, no, it’s actually quite affordable. You can get a cheap holder for around 5 dollars and a pack of 10 nibs for $7.

This particular pen looks like a dip pen; check out your local art store or hunt around online. They start pretty cheap like this; you then put the nib into a holder, dip it in ink, and make a huge fucking mess everywhere. Then you keep practicing until you can make lovely calligraphy.

You can also get flexible fountain pens. /r/fountainpens for all the fountain pen advice you will every need. Non-flex fountain pens start very cheaply (I love the Jinhao 599 which is under $2 delivered from alixepress and a Platinum Preppry for super fine writing which was AU$7) with flex pens starting out a bit more expensive for a basic modern one and then a few more for a vintage flex nib or custom made flex nib.

Basically, you can choose the price point you want a pen for and there will be something in that range for you, though after a certain point you'd paying for cosmetic design and random diamonds being shoved in and exclusivity rather than a better pen.

$500 chair that comes with shitty wheels?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CGZPOK2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can probably find cheaper ones that are the same thing on amazon, I had bought these though.

This may be a trigger rabbit hole for some but I absolutely stand by my day-to-day work pen. Pilot Precise V5 RT. It's a thing of beauty; writes a sharp black line, comfortable grip, retractable so I can click it incessantly. They may not last a lifetime like fountain pens or whatever, but they blow my standard office's pens out of the water.

u/Steptomyworld · 22 pointsr/battlestations

You should check these out for your chair!

Don’t know about this exact brand, but these types of wheels will be a lot easier on your carpet. Battlestation looks great btw! That wallpaper is sick.

3M Command strips work great, they have a variety of configurations to hang just about anything. They are, however, not inexpensive.

We use poster putty to hang lighter paper things (like posters)

For old-school gamers, THIS was a blank character sheet: https://www.amazon.com/Engineering-Computation-Letter-Sheets-35500/dp/B001J87JTM

I'd be willing to bet that if I looked in my AD&D 2nd Edition books that are in my attic, I probably have a character or two stuffed in the books, on engineering computation paper.

u/Boohyabuddha · 15 pointsr/college

I'll try to be specific with what I recommend, giving brands and models if I can. Bear in mind, I'm from a STEM major, so some of this is stuff I've used for math and other related classes that you might not need.

  1. Uniball KURU TOGA Mechanical Pencils - These are hands-down the best mechanical pencils I've ever used. It has a mechanism that rotates the lead as you lift up the pencil (I think? or maybe as you write...) so you get a sharp, clean script nearly all the time. My only gripe is I lose the eraser caps a lot, and if you don't have them on it's difficult to click more lead. The "Roulette" model might be different.

  2. TOPS Engineering Computation Pad - I actually take my in-class notes on my Surface Pro (highly recommend it), and use my next recommendation for practice problems, but I use this paper for my hand-in assignments. I don't like ruled paper for any kind of computation work, and with plain paper I tend to veer off and don't get clean lines. With this paper, though, I can see the grid on the backside through the front, allowing me to get a clean look without thick lines muddying up the aesthetics. This isn't necessary, but for me it makes my work easier to read and organize, and it often times is the only green paper in the homework pile so it's easy to pick out as well!

  3. NUboard A4 Dry Erase Notebook - My wife bought this for me for my first semester because I was going through so much paper to do practice problems, and because I hated standing up to do work on a bigger dry erase board. It's the size of a normal notebook with transparent sheets overlapping the dry erase panels, and your notes will (more or less) stay on the board until you erase them. By this I mean that you can do some notes or problems, close the book, shove it in your backpack, and when you open it it will be as you left it. This thing changed my studying habits, and I use a lot less paper now.

Here's some other random things I didn't think of before I realized I need them in the moment. I try to keep these things in my backpack most of the time:

Surge Protector - I do all my studying in the library, and if I don't get there early, all the desks with outlets get snatched up quickly (especially near midterms and finals). I ended up picking up a cheap one at Micro Center and keep it in my backpack in case I need to sit somewhere further away. Also, it helps others that aren't close to one either. :)

Noise-Cancelling Headphones - I study in the "absolute quiet" floors, but even then some people make some noise just shuffling papers, zipping-unzipping stuff, eating lunch, etc. You don't need the Bose fancy ones; anything that keeps the noise out (and, I should mention, your own music IN) will work.

Chegg/Wolfram Subscription - These saved my academic butt so many times. Wolfram might not be necessary if you're only taking one math course as a GEP requirement, but if you're taking up to Calc2 or 3 it's great. It can solve integrations and derivatives, but, more importantly, it will also show you a step-by-step solution. Chegg, however, I think is worth it for nearly any class. I've only had one or two textbooks whose answers weren't on there, and for the others it was a lifesaver. Professors will sometimes not post solutions or answers to problems in class or on homework, and books will often only have the answer in the back. Chegg, however, not only has the answer, but, more often than not, has step-by-step solutions. I used this all the time for two things specifically: 1) Check my homework before I turn it in to make sure I understood the processes (and got the answers right), and 2) doing practice problems from the book that the professor didn't address or post solutions for.

    Hope this helps!

I have a friend whose family owns a dollar store. Nothing in there loses them money, there are no loss-leaders at a dollar store. Heck, most of the items have at least a 250% markup. They make money on quantity sold throughout the store. Each item is super cheap to purchase but has a great markup and sells through quickly to get new product in.

They do carry a few non-dollar items like flowers and some basic convenience store things like milk and such for the neighborhood that don't follow that markup. Everything else though has insane markups. It's cheap, usually chinese-made stuff that works well enough.

Amazon has 100-sheet engineering paper for $6.14, and it has Prime shipping. That 100-sheet pad costs them way less than $1 to purchase in bulk wholesale.

Heck, even Follett sells 500-sheet packages for only $15.49.

Get some clear urethane office chair casters. I use these on my on hardwood, no mat. They are awesome, roll smooth, and no marks. I give them a wipe down with a damp cloth once a month or so to remove any sand or grit they pick up from the floor. I also use these on heavy music gear like speaker cabinets, or anything else that comes with those terrible hard plastic casters.

I was 36 before i was diagnosed. Here are a few things that worked for me - they may or may not work for you.

When I was 25 I had over 15k in credit card debt, 60k in student loans, had flunked out of college and my credit score was 455.

I now have now have less than 1k in credit card debt (school costs, going back to school) an Associates degree in cooking, and a credit score of over 790.

To be fair, I had a lot of great help from my family. But even with great help, you can't get that far without changing things about yourself.

SO Some of the things:

First: remember: every task is made up of a ton of little steps. Stop thinking it has to be done all at once, and instead think of the next step. To quote the Stormlight Archive: 'The Most important step a man can take is the next one' - So i will write this advice in small, easy to digest steps.

1) I closed all my credit cards. You can close them without paying them off.

Even now I only have 2 credit cards, one is joint with my mother, the other joint with my wife. I am not responsible enough without oversight. You want to close them so you -cant- use them. Draconian steps are sometimes needed. And no 'For Emergency' cards unless you keep that card with your parents or a very trusted close friend. Otherwise everything is an emergency.

2) I signed up for debt management If you can, try and do it through your bank, its more reputable, but if they dont offer it you'll need to do a bit of research to find the best one (remember. Small steps)

3) Mint.Com I used Mint to set up a budget for myself. Its a lot like the person explained at Simple, except 3rd party and can be set up with pretty much any bank. It allows you to set categories and see exactly how much you've spent.

4) Start a Bullet Journal Don't go into this thinking its something complicated. (i would completely ignore all the bullet journal videos and subs other than the one that started it ) This is literally all you need: a small pocket sized notebook, and a pen.

Take that notebook with you everywhere. Put it with your watch and your phone and your wallet and take it everywhere.

You can look up the official way to do it if you want, but all you need in it is a way to keep yourself on track. I recommend a habit tracker: make a little grid. One one axis put the day of the week, on the other put what you want to do: Brush teeth. Check Mint. Deodorant. Take Meds. - each day you do the thing, fill in that box. You'll see a nice visual representation of your habits and it will help to form them. Keep them simple. Don't fret if you miss a day, but use it as a reason not to miss the next day. Make it things you want to do for the rest of your life - not short term goals (like Learn C#)

If you want to add a daily to do list in there, then go ahead - just remember to keep the ToDo's simple, easy, and less than 5 a day for now. Time Management is one of our problems - don't overwhelm yourself by adding more than you can do and then feeling bad because you didn't do them./

5) Start a Routine - Every night before I go to bed I put my wallet, Bullet Journal, Watch, Keys, and Fidget cube in the same spot on my desk. I put my phone by my bed, charging, and my glasses next to that. Every morning i wake up, put them all in my pockets, and they stay there all day. Even my car keys. This is part of my routine.

It did not start this big. it started with remembering to put my keys on the hook. Every day. Keys on the hook. Find them somewhere else? Keys go on the hook. After I got that down, I moved on to add another task for a month or two. Then another. Small steps, remember?

Its taken me 10 years to build the routine I have, and I'm still building it. The last 2 months have been getting brushing teeth into it. I've gotten pretty good at it, but its still in my habit tracker. Again, small things. Small steps. In a month or two I'm going to try adding 'washing face daily' since I have light minor acne, but know I can't add it yet or I'll get overwhelmed.

6) If you want to learn a skill, see if you can sign up for a class The structure and routine of class can help a lot. It is a lot different to try and learn C# in a classroom, where you have homework and due dates that keep rolling, then trying to self motivate yourself to learn it. Sure I could, if the Hyperfocus hits. But it wont, and its not reliable when it does, and it wont last long enough to -really- learn everything.

7) Meds You said your meds don't work quite right and leave you unmotivated - have you tried others? I don't know what the procedure is in Canada, but mind/mood drugs affect everyone differently, and sometimes you need to find the right one, right does.

Through it all, Remember: Small Steps

The tasks seem so big and giant and thats why we never do them. I have felt that way about my book I want to write (like you do about your Port) and its taken 3 years, but I'm through 2/3rd of it.

The tasks don't have to be done tomorrow. yes, we want it done tomorrow, but teaching yourself - slowly, but resolutely - that you will still have time even if it takes you years to do it - is an important skill.

As is breaking things up into much smaller tasks

Here, as a parting gift, some thoughts about learning C# (or C+ if you wish)

  1. Download an editor (if you go with C#, Microsoft Visual Studio is -amazing- and really one of the best platforms for coding C#)

    a) Learn how to write Hello World to print to a screen. Done that? Now walk away. Put it away. You have to learn how to do things without the help of Hyperfocus and that sometimes means walking away even if you don't want to.

    b) The next day, learn how to ask for a number, and print it back. Done? Now walk away again.

    c) the third day, learn how to take that number, put it through a calculation (Number+5-3*6/4 or something) and print that new number out. Now walk away.

    d) Fourth day: Learn how to use an If/Else statement - If the number entered is >5, print True, else print false. Now walk away

    e) Fifth day: learn how to use a loop: Take a number, and add 2 to it X times (where X is the second number taken).

Congratulations. Those 5 things (Write lines, take in new lines, and perform calculations. if/else statements, Loops) are 95% of coding. EVERYTHING done in coding is made up of those. (sure there are more advanced concepts like Classes and Methods and Exceptions and Recursion ... but they are all made up of those 5 things)

Finally, You CAN turn this around and do better It is not easy. But it is possible. What works for you may not be the exact as above, but it is possible to find it. No body told me what to do, these are all things I came up with for myself, over time, over experimentation. it wasn't even conscious thought of 'lets try this now' it was just ... hey this seems to work, i'll keep it. Meds can help. I certainly don't say no to meds to help. But meds are just a tool, and you need to do stuff with those meds too.

And remember: There is a lot of world ahead of you. There is a lot of time to get things done. If it takes you a few years longer than everyone else, thats ok. Its your journey. The next step. Just take one small, tiny individual step. Then the next one.

I know this will get buried but I have decided to revamp my whole EDC.

/u/ieatedjesus I have taken the plunge on the Wallet you have recomended. I hate when a product has no reviews or I can't do research about it but whatever. I'm also super stingy with money so this is a huge deal for me lol ($42 with engraving)

As for the pen, I have decided to get a Fisher Space Pen $15. I have 3. Now I will have 4. (also bought a clip $5) ((also bought fieldnotes $10 for the wallet))

/u/odomandr I have decided to go with that knife $16. Nothing sexier than a good stone wash and minimalist design. I also need a knife. No idea about the quality but today I have decided to trust a total stranger on /r/EDC

/u/Ryl4nd99 Thank you for the great idea of a post! I hope to post again when everything comes in. I decided to add/replace my edc with the items above. I also carry a muthafuckin Casio as well as an Olight s2 Baton along with dollar store chapstick. Hopefully I can keep you updated or make a new post when all my goodies come in!

Sorry for the wall of text. Thank you for reading.

I am a sophomore cs student going into my 4th semester. Here's my experience with the calculator policies for tests in different classes:

  • Math: No calculator allowed or only a 4-function allowed.
  • Physics: Any calculator allowed except for those expensive TI Nspire CX ones with like LED screens. They never checked during exams. Also formula sheets were allowed for exams so you only ever needed the basic functions anyway.
  • CS: Never needed a calculator for any cs classes.

I always use a TI-84 cause that's just what I own, but I really only use it for the screen size. Any calculations can be done on a 4-function or scientific calculator like you have. When I don't have a calculator with me, I'm able to use my phone calculator app or try to always keep wolfram alpha or symbolab open in a tab on my computer which is helpful for explaining stuff and a larger range of calculations. In other words, you should be fine with the scientific calculator for 1035 that you have, but a more expensive one will make calculations easier, faster, and possibly more accurate (in my experience the keys on the scientific calculators don't register sometimes and are less sensitive than the nicer calculators, which can mess up a calculation - pain in the ass when you don't realize a button didn't register at the beginning of a multi step calculation until after the fact). There are a lot of ti-83's and ti-84's on eBay that are pretty cheap. I just looked and the first couple results were all under/around $40. Hope this helps!

Get hot? Just turn on the "AC." It's easy to go through a ton of water if you are blasting it constantly, but periodic 10 second bursts are really all you need. We never used more than one tank per day, if that. Detach the misting hose and the sprayer then doubles as a camping shower, just invest in a cheapo privacy tent.

We also use one or two tapestries for shade, just make sure to clip them with about a foot off the ground to maintain the breeze.

Accuteck scales on Amazon are pretty popular around here. It's useful to have one where the LCD screen can be moved away from the scale (for when you have large boxes). I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=sxin_5_ac_d_pm?ac_md=2-1-QmV0d2VlbiAkMjUgYW5kICQ1MA%3D%3D-ac_d_pm&keywords=shipping+scale&pd_rd_i=B00KYA0RC2&pd_rd_r=d8ca9b1f-d86a-4264-bd5e-d2db980ab1a3&pd_rd_w=Bg3hS&pd_rd_wg=PA9Uw&pf_rd_p=aed08533-d0f3-456a-bfcd-3ec60fc417c9&pf_rd_r=5PNA399EWXFBFQ99B9TT&psc=1&qid=1569514644&s=gateway

Don't spend too much time on a business plan. It's more important to get some practice at actually selling things. Good luck!

Make sure it weighs grams, oz and pounds. Also check that the screen is not placed on the weighing platform. My old food scale was like that and when I would put bigger items on I wouldn’t be able to read the screen. Some scales also have a top that folds up 90 degrees to hold bigger items, but a shoe box also works for that. I use a smaller “jewelry” scale for items less than an oz. or two

Leftie here. The best solution I’ve found is Noodler’s Bernanke Blue (or black, I think) ink. It dries almost instantly on every paper I’ve tried.

The Lamy LH nibs don’t seem to work for me because the flow is too heavy for my writing speed (i.e. I write slow and they seem to flood ink), but my leftie SO loves them.

Truthfully I'd just recreate what I have, as it would almost entirely fit inside the budget:
SS Jotter, I used this before switching to a TT Shaker, it is still fantastic.
Leek, been thinking about upgrading but still fantastic and the alternatives are way more expensive.
SF 348 I got the unlabelled BLF variant, and it is fantastic. Sleek, small, and bright.
MOTA Pocket Tool One of the card tool variants, I've used a few of its parts, but will radily admit that on these not everything is useful.
Flowfold This holds everything listed above, and does so without increasing the volume of my pocket, and making everything quieter and easier to pick up and go with.
Cable Key Ring Great, because it is large and thin, so I have my keys and car keys and USB on here. I tried a Keydisk mini, but found it still rattles against the car key, is fairly bulky, and cannot hold the USB. May try one of the new Orbitkeys next.
USB Drive, goes with the keys, I actually have a SP J80 32, but for some reason that one has increased in price.
Bifold Wallet The one I currently have is very similar, but I have no idea what it is called, a basic bifold.

So, this budget covers everything save the watch, which I didn't leave room for, because downgrading from a pebble would be sad, and getting one would be the entire budget. My choice to recollect everything I have mostly indicates how happy I am with the set that I created.

Buy a scale to weigh packages if you don't already own one. Even a cheap $10-20 one from amazon or eBay, whatever.

EDIT : The USPS website is good for ordering FREE supplies as well. You'll eventually need small flat rate boxes at least. I wouldn't pay for anything through them, the markup is crazy. Amazon has 6 pack rolls of tape atm for $7 as an add-on item as well.

Other things to keep in mind with eBay for sellers coming from Poshmark:

Give yourself a realistic handling time. When something sells, your handling time is how long you have to get it to the post office and scanned. I used to keep a 1 day handling time, but I'm not able to make it to the PO daily due to work and life in general. My USPS pick ups didn't always scan right away and dropping items in Blue Boxes is also not the most reliable, so selling something was usually really stressful for me and left me scrambling to get to the PO to ship. I ended up switching my handling time to two days because of the holidays and have since left it at that. I have more wiggle room to go to the PO or delays in scans to happen and I don't have to worry. You are penalized if you do not get something scanned within your handling time. I have not seen a reduction in sales since moving to a two day handling time, so I would highly recommend giving yourself the time if you need it.

Purchase a small scale for postage and learn how USPS works. Buy your shipping on eBay, it is more expensive at the PO. Remember that if you're going to use a Priority or PFR box, your label as to be a Priority label or the appropriate PFR label. Poshmark makes us all lazy in that regard. You can still ship in your pretty polymailers and recycled Amazon boxes, but just watch your Priority stuff. This is the postage scale I use, I like it, it works well. It used to be the cheapest option on Amazon, but looks like there is cheaper available. Alternatively, if you have an old food scale you don't use or can find a scale at the thrift, that would be an even better option.

I don't personally do auctions. I have done them, I just prefer not to. If I do list some for auction, it's usually damaged as fuck and I put a starting bid at $0.99 and take a loss just to get the item out of my life and recoup some costs of it. However, as of late, I've been just listing these items fairly cheap and letting them sit as BIN until somebody buys them.

/r/Flipping has a really helpful Daily Newbie Thread and I have always gotten my eBay questions answered there with reliable information. I highly recommend reading that thread to learn more and if a specific question about eBay arises, definitely post it! People are usually really helpful. They also have a few selling guides linked in that thread.

I've never used a hard mouse pad so these are just my findings:

The 9HD is 12.6" x 10.6" x 0.08"
Razer Destructror 2 13.98" x 10.04" x 0.09"
Logitech G440 13.39" x 11.02" x 0.12"
CORSAIR MM400 13.9" x 10.9" x 0.1"
GP3 HEATON 16.54 x 13.78 x 0.08 in But its ~88$
Fnatic Gear Boost Control Pro 15.75" x 12.01" x 0.07"
Theres also Aluminum mouse pads if you're into that
example: RAZER Manticor Aluminum 13.98" x 10.04" x 0.09"

For comparison one of the most used soft pads, BenQ ZOWIE G-SR Large, is 18.9" x 15.7" x 0.14"

It seems like they stopped making a lot of the actually large hard pads since most people use soft.

For better painting, especially on the Stormcast side, do sub-assemblies and for gaming before you have completely finished paintjob, stick the models together with blue-tac/poster putty - get this shit anyways, great for sticking wash pots to table so you don't flip them on your table/carpet etc. Another tip - if you cannot remove remains of the blue tac from model by hand, use a bigger blue-tac ball to remove it.

Subassemblies before painting:
Liberators - Hands with shields kept separate, add with bluetac before model is finished for playing

Retributors - "backpacks" kept separate for better access to back area. Possibly weapons as well for access to the front.

Prosecutors - wings removed if possible for painting them separately (way better handling) and access to the whole model, especially the Prime model has somehow very stupid wing placement.

Lord-Celestant on Dracoth - generaly not really much possibility for subassembly at all :(

Relictor - just glue this shit together, you can access anything on the mini

Chaos - in general I don't think there is any need for sub-assemblies, as the models have generaly open poses allowing great access for painting. However, Korghos Khul might be a good idea to keep him separate from the lord (blue tac) and therefore both models separate from base (blue tac).

By the way, I generally use bluetac to attach models to bases for playing, as bases are usually the last thing I paint/customize to match the whole paintscheme.

Ditch the PVC holders and terminal blocks. Just put a hole through the bulkhead large enough for electric match wires.

When you prep for flight, run the ematch leads through and connect them to your altimeter. Plug the hole with the sticky stuff sold for attaching posters to the wall and put your charge into the corner of a plastic bag, stuff the match head down in, fold it over and wrap it with masking tape.

FWIW, I got the poster putty idea from Kent Burnett, the guy who designed the Talon.

u/asciiaardvark · 5 pointsr/fountainpens

Some come with cartridges or converters, but you can always buy those separate.

  • The Pilot Petit1 would definitely have originally had an in ink cartridge, but if you've lost it you can eyedropper the pen easily by putting silicone grease on the threads and just filling the body of the pen with ink.
  • Lamy Al-Star uses Lamy cartridges/converters
  • IIRC, Pelikano Junior & the Rotring Core should both use Standard International, which isn't quite as standard as you'd hope, but I would guess the inexpensive Jinhao converters will work.

Congrats on a diverse set of nice starter pens :)

This is the kind of engineering paper I use for everything (I picked the first link I saw, which happened to be amazon, but you can probably find it for the same price or cheaper at an office supply store, or for $16 a ream at my university book store).

The grid on this kind of paper is actually printed on the back of the paper; when you have it on the ream, the grid from all the pages sort of adds up and is visible through the sheet, but once you take off the page, you can’t see it anymore. It’s nice for keeping things organized while writing, them when you take it off it looks super clean.

I like this stuff so much that I made a template of it in Krita when I switched to digital.

(If you meant, “where do I get old exam sheets,” then good luck. If you have friends in school, they may be willing to part with some. Your library might have scrap paper too. Or you can go back to college, but short of building your own paper mill, that might be the most expensive way imaginable to get scratch paper).

What I put in my pockets

Verizon LG G3 An oldie but goodie, been weilding this phone for a little over 2 years. Currently is running Cyanogenmod 13. Also has a 3rd party Anker battery inside which are a bit nicer than the one the phone comes with

Buxton Tri-Fold wallet Very sturdy and nice feeling wallet. My grandparents got it for me half as a joke as my last name is Buxton. Holds a second battery for my phone in addition to all the money I dont have.

Keyring with 144GB of Flash Storage on it. Keys for my house, and assorted flash drives. 2 8GB and 2 64GB. One 64GB is for my portable build of Ubuntu, the other is for Storing files on the go. One 8GB is for Hirens Boot CD, and the last one doesnt work and i'm too much of a lazy ass to take it off. Plus it looks cool.

Feild Notes I think everyone on EDC has one of these. Super handy. Above it is my handy Pilot G2, my personal favorite pen. Ive been using that one for about a year and it shows it with all the chew marks at the top.

Random Skullcandy Headphones.

Things I put in my bag

iFixit Pro Tech Toolkit Probably the best toolkit for computer repair, has literally every single screwdriver tip imaginable, plus some really handy tools for things like phone and tablet repair

2016 Razer Blade A wonderful gaming laptop, that can actually be used in the real world. Is very thin and light considering what's on the inside. Holds a 5ish hour battery life, so I'm not tethered to a wall all the time.

Steam Controller Wonderful for Gaming on the Go. It's a very good controller for PC Gaming, but only for certain people. First person shooters would totally suck on this controller (but then again they suck on every controller), but works very nicely for the games I play.

Logitech MX Master Probably the nicest mouse I have ever used in my life. Fits super well in my rather large hands, and the thumbrest button, speed adaptive scroll wheel, and horizontal scroll in addition to wonderful tracking and bluetooth support make it my favorite mouse of all time.

Cable Matters Thunderbolt Dock Very handy for a laptop that doesnt have Ethernet or VGA output, and an Extra USB port never hurt anyone either.

USB 3 & Micro USB OTG, SD Card and Micro SD card Adapter. Can plug into either standard USB or Micro USB, works as an adapter for a Micro SD or an SD Card. Also useful for a computer that doesnt have an SD card slot.

Microfiber cloth. The Razer Blade is a fingerprint magnet, so this comes in handy quite often.

u/Damrid · 5 pointsr/EngineeringStudents

If you want an absolute beast of a calculator, I recommend the TI-nspire CX Cas.

It can do anything and everything. It has gotten me through many classes. It can do Complex/Imaginary matrix operations, can graph 3D functions, can solve ODE's, and you can program it to accomplish various tasks.

u/Oncotic · 4 pointsr/fountainpens

Here's the perfect pen for you because fountain pens will drip into the cap when banged around and dry up if not used. There's no real way to avoid it. Yes, you are going to get inky fingers every once and a while and there are times when it won't work. Accept it, or a fountain pen is not for you.

With that said, some pens are better than others in terms of reliability. Most mid/high range pens are made well and typically have less problems and better customer service.

There are lots of pens out there that are professional and stylish. You should just be searching fountain pen boards, looking at pictures and finding the right pen for you. For example, I have a few Parkers and I have always found the Parker Sonnet to be a classy pen, and one that I would like to get. But you may be looking for something bigger, something that says a statement (because the Sonnet is a slimmer pen).

As for reliability, no pens come to mind that are spectacularly reliable.

I tend to use snippings of cardboard I have from boxes and shipments I receive (amazon, ebay, whatever). Make a little book of cardboard to tape the coins/bars in flips or bags inside of. That then goes inside of a bubble mailer. I then tape that up very well, wholly enclosing a shipping label I generate at paypal. I use this tape copiously.

If it goes into a SFRB, or MFRB, I also use strapping tape to seal up the edges and corners.

I have never needed to ship via any method other than USPS thus far.

u/haroldthehobo · 3 pointsr/Ultralight

No problem. It really isn't as hard as it looks. My best suggestions would be to first look at what you have, and really think about if you need it. Just not bringing things will save you way more weight than buying the lightest stuff.

After that, invest in a decent scale. It doesn't have to be too expensive. Just something that is accurate to atleast .1oz. Start weighing your stuff, and put it into a LighterPack list.

Once you've done that, and you feel like you've done your best to get your baseweight as low as you can, ask for a shakedown on here (instructions are in the sidebar as well). People will look over what you have and give you ideas on where to cut down.

I found it really helpful to just sit on this subreddit and read as much as I can. Even reading through other peoples shakedowns will give you an idea of things you could do to lose weight. Also, I like to read through a lighterpack whenever I see it. For example, my flair next to my name has mine. Reading through other peoples lists also gives you some great insight.

Best of luck and welcome to the wonderful world of gram counting ;)

You can start with a SteelSeries QcK+, or QcK Heavy, depending on if you want the pad to be thicker. Personally I don't like these because they're pretty rough and give me friction burns on my wrist, so if you're worried about that happening to you there's other options like Glorious XL, Razer Gigantus, Zowie G-SR, HyperX Fury S (this one is also rough for me but not as bad as QcK), and there's many more but that's a few off the top of my head. Some are a bit pricey though. If you really want some good info and help from more people, make a post on /r/mousereview saying what games you play and what kind of features, if any, you're looking for. They help me out with mouse related stuff all the time, and I'm also pretty active there too haha.

More than likely the QcK+ will be plenty for you as long as it isn't too rough for you. Seems to be an uncommon problem, but I have talked to other people with the issue. Just try to find a pad that's at least 40cm (400mm) or 16in or so wide, that's the most important thing. Some people swear by the Allsop Raindrop XL even though it's a bit on the small side for me. If you're around 900-1000 eDPI you should be fine with this one, I like it a lot, just wish it had a couple more inches in each dimension.

I have this mousepad (the CompLexity team version) coming in tomorrow if you want to wait and see if I recommend it.

Apologies for the wall of text, I'm kind of into this stuff, probably too much haha.

>Widowmaker is actually a viable option

She is still not great on PC.

>Besides seat time is there any useful tips you guys can give a recently converted?

Unlike a controller, where you were require to turn your sensitivity way up in order to turn around in a reasonable amount of time, you want to turn your mouse sensitivity way down for precise aiming. If you need to spin around quickly at lower sensitivity, you have the ability to swing your arm across your desk to do so.

Also, buy a good mousepad which is large enough for you to do that. I use a Razer Goliathus Speed Edition. It is pretty inexpensive and works great.

Other options:

[Zowie] (https://www.amazon.com/Zowie-Large-Gaming-Mouse-G-SR/dp/B00T56XWZU)

Steel Series

All three of those mousepads get used by professional Overwatch players.

I personally use an older design of the Goliathus with the same tracking surface but a different cosmetic pattern. Some of the new Razer graphics look like the Hulk jizzed on a roofing shingle and they may clash with your gear or sense of taste. They also make a "Control" edition with more texture, but I find it rough and distracting if my wrist touches it and it slows down my mouse slightly without really increasing my accuracy.

I have never used a SteelSeries mousepad, but they are known for good products. I own a keyboard made by them and it is great.

I have never heard of Zowie before checking what gear Overwatch Pros use, but I am interested in how basic it is while presumably having good enough quality for professional gaming. I really enjoy the understated look.

No, you're correct. If you're long periods of time sitting at a desk then yes, most likely it has something to do with poor circulation.

in other words:

  • Stop playing, get up and walk about for a bit. Shake your hands/arms or excercise to get some blood flowing.
  • Get a decent hand rest that supports your wrist.
  • Make sure to adjust your seating so you don't need to strain to reach the m/kb or see the screen. Incorrect sitting posture can cause back problems too.

After seeing the various customizations out there I decided to take a shot at my own. I'm not a crafty sort (as you can probably tell) but I am pretty happy with the outcome.

This setup lets you see enemy number, HP, and status without having to look at a computer screen or sleeves. How to do it...

  1. Stands from SpielPro, though frankly the existing ones probably work fine.
UPDATE: Don't buy them- the yellows are defective and you can't easily insert your standees without scuffing them.

  2. A labeler. I used this to print and attach the extra numbers in the middle.

  3. Some mounting putty. Never used putty before but this seemed to work fine. You don't need much- if you look at the far right stand, that is plenty.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQMFEC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  4. Small dice. Any color or whatever will do. I used these.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MDU77YW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Even if you aren't very crafty this is pretty easy to do and it makes updating combat results a breeze. Just rotate the dice and attach status as needed. I'm always looking to optimize, so if you can think of any further improvements, let me know!

Whoops I wrote a novel...

I think first it is important to identify what type of pen you want. Do you want a fountain pen? Do you want a ballpoint? Do you want gel ink? Fineliner? Do you prefer more bold or fine tips? Is it important to have a pen that has portability features? Are you a lefty? Is it important to have a pen that is pretty? Or if it writes well enough does it matter? It seems like a lot to go from "does it sort of write well enough to be legible" to such a laundry list of questions.

This is more or less the process I go through when buying a new pen:

  • I enjoy the experience of writing with a fountain pen, but I personally do not think it is worth the maintenance for day-to-day journaling, so I prefer a ballpoint (also, fineliners are fantastic for art and stuff, but I don't care for them for lengthy writing)
  • I prefer gel ink, but only if it doesn't smudge, bleed, or ghost too much so certain types of refills are right out (Pilot G-2 .07, for example)
  • I too have tiny handwriting so I will always prefer a more fine tip as long as it isn't too scratchy (certain refills that come in sizes less than .38 can be pretty bad, imo)
  • I am right-handed so smudging, while still a mild concern, is not necessarily a major issue as long as the ink isn't too bad
  • I like pens that are more portable, which seems silly, I mean it's a pen right? but it does matter to me, for example, if it is clicky or twisty that is generally better than capped (unless the cap is very secure) because they are less likely to open in my pocket, or if the pen has a clip if the clip is positioned at the very top or if it sits down some so that if I clip it to my pocket it will leave a large portion of the pen sticking out, etc
  • Finally, I like an attractive pen, but if it doesn't write well I'm not using it. As many pens as I have tried to use, and continue to try to use, I have literally never found anything I like to write with as much as these. At least as far non-gel ballpoints go. I have gone new-empty with well over a dozen of these. Any time I switch to a prettier pen, and then pick up one of these I always think, why did I ever stop using this pen?

  • Oh, also, black ink only. Period. Sometimes red is ok too. Never blue.

So that's a lot of words, but that's essentially my .02 for selecting a pen. Identify what you want and what is important to you and then make your selection based on that. With that in mind, here is my experience/opinion on specific pens:

  • Best non-gel ballpoint: Pilot Better Retractable in Fine, unquestionably. Zebra makes a good non-gel ballpoint as well, but I find they are less consistent in quality and sometimes you get a weird scratchy one
  • Best gel ballpoint: Uni-Ball Signo in Micro. This is actually probably my favorite refill type in general. Very smooth, dark ink, doesn't ghost on most types of common paper unless you're coloring with it or something. Makes fine lines that dry fast enough to not smudge unless you wipe your hand through it immediately. Just try to find a pen body you like that the refill will fit into, because the stock one is not pretty.
  • I don't know much about specific fountain pens, so if you are interested in that definitely check out /r/fountainpens
  • Honorable mentions:
  • The oft-praised Pilot G-2 is a really good gel-ink pen, but at least in my opinion, the 07 is literally unusable because it smudges and ghosts so damn much.
  • The Pentel RSVP is also a super good writer for a non-gel ballpoint, but this pen is the definition of not portable and also ugly.
  • You 100% cannot go wrong with Parker. The Jotter is probably my all-time favorite pen body. If only I could get a Signo or Better Retractable refill to fit in there.
  • Zebra F-701 is probably one of the best all-around decent pens. It looks impressive, it is substantial without being heavy in the hand, it is on the cheaper side for a "nice" pen (like 6-8 bucks I think last time I checked), and it can take most of the good Zebra refills and in addition many other popular refills will fit into it with some convincing.
  • If you like needlepoint tips, the Pilot Hi-Tec-C is probably the best there is. I have a random pen body with a Hi-Tec-C refill in .3 that I am using as my main pen right now and am pretty happy with it. I still prefer the Signo refill in Micro, if only just, but the pen body I have won't fit the refill. I would like to add that this is the only pen I have ever used in .3 that wasn't too points and scratchy to use.

One more thing, once you find a refill that you like, if the pen body isn't something you are happy with hit up thrift stores, ebay, or any of the number of Chinese wholesale websites out there for random cheap pens that you like. The refills don't matter, just buy a few of them until you find one you like that will fit whatever your preferred refill is. Like I said before, the Signo Micro is my favorite refill, but I hate the pen itself, so I have a random black metal pen with a secure cap that I bought from Aliexpress for like $2 with free shipping that the Signo refill happens to fit into that I (usually) use as my main pen. Right now I am using a different random pen that I bought online with the Hi-Tec-C refill because it is still new and shiny and I'm not over it yet, lol.

First, excellent name.

Second, you only need one pen. It's the Pilot G2 in your desired line thickness. I like 0.38 mm. But some people prefer thicker

Thirdly, efficiency = (the shit you gotta do)/(the amount of work+time it takes you to do it). Efficiency comes. With time. The nice thing about residency is you'll be doing so much of what you have to learn that it will crystalize into memory for you. The process works.

Fifthly, your job is to learn. You aren't expected to be particularly functional from day 1.

Lastly, a list of tips:

  • Take your history the same way, every time. You'll be able to weed out what you don't need.
  • Do your exam the same way, every time. Eventually you'll be able to weed out what you don't need.
  • Depending on your EMR, a lot of the documentation is automated. Don't re-invent the wheel. Steal templates.
  • Med students take thorough histories (usually) and buy you time

Just practice writing small! I've changed my handwriting on a whim just by doing this for half a page of regular notebook paper. I used to do it all the time in high school; I could never decide if I wanted to write my lowercase A's like "a" or "α", so I'd just write whichever one I wanted my handwriting to look like repeatedly until my hand got used to the motion.

I've recently sized down my handwriting as well in a similar way. Basically I've just been using a regular college-ruled notebook and when I take my notes in class, I make a point to make sure my letters are only 1/2 of each line because it's a lot easier to read (more white space between lines makes it feel less jumbled imo).

As someone else suggested, the dotted, grid, or lined notebook might help you quite a bit. But I would still practice in another notebook first (like don't go out and buy a $20 notebook immediately) to practice in, because it's probably going to look really messy until your hand gets used to the new way of writing.

I'd also suggest using a thinner pen if you aren't already. My favorite for general note-taking is the Pilot G2 Ultra Fine Point, though the Extra Fine Point (.5mm instead of .38mm) works well too. You can also find some pretty cute pens if you look on Korean and Japanese-themed websites (like Blippo), as they have many .35mm pens for pretty cheap.

Is it this pen from amazon? Is this a good cheap pen for noobs to practice with handwriting?

I started off with a Lamy Safari and have now bought 3. They are wonderful and last. They aren't a trophy pen but if you are a student and want to take pride in your work then this pen can take the beatings a backpack will give. After you are sure you like the pen I would suggest getting the refill converter so you can use bulk ink instead of the little cartridges. What kind of writing do you want to do with it? There are different nibs (tips) for different thicknesses/feed rates.

u/ImmovableMover · 3 pointsr/pens

Okay, sweet. So, one of the cool things about fountain pens is their customization to how you want to write. Do you like writing small and precise? Get an EF or F nib. Do you like cursive-looking writing? Get an italic nub. Do you like sexy line variation? Get a flex nib.

My point is that I would get one of the two most recommended starter fountain pens so that you won't be stuck with an experience you don't like having spent $50 on a design or nib size that doesn't suit you: the Lamy Safari or the Pilot Metropolitan. After the first few pens, you'll have an idea of what you really like in a fountain pen. These pens are both inexpensive, relatively high build quality, and nice writers. I started with a Lamy Safari EF as my first pen and I still use is regularly because it is a nice pen, despite it being inexpensive. But I think you can look around Youtube or Google some reviews on the two and see which one looks more appealing to you. I personally recommend the Lamy Safari because it has a "tripod" grip that helps beginners position the pen so that the nib is in the right orientation. See the Safari here. The Metropolitan is also a nice pen. So again, whatever you think looks cooler.

Fountain pens can be refilled through disposable cartridges or through filling mechanisms that take up ink from a bottle.

My first bottle of ink was Noodler's Black.

And to refill the Safari, I had to buy a converter.

I started using fountain pens around 5 or so months ago, and my bottle of the same ink is still going strong. (Although I have bought tons more other colors. :D).

I wrote a slightly more extensive "beginner fountain pen guide and why you should use fountain pens" comment on another post, and I'll link that here if you want to read it.

some of the ones I have gotten in the past are:

Something I've learned after playing this for two years:

  1. Find out the "flow" of the base. By flow, figure out where most players will be and position your self accordingly that will put you in a good place (be mindful of cover if you're infantry)

  2. Try to limit 1v1's vs a heavy if you can. You will more than likely lose.

  3. As with 2, try to always break the line of sight with the enemy. If they can't see you, they can't shoot you.

  4. A good mouse + mouse pad will make a world of difference. I use a Logitech G500 and this Steel series mouse pad.

  5. ALWAYS be mindful of the mini map in the bottom left. If you're playing with a competent team, they should always be putting down darts, radar, etc. will generally let you know where the enemy is located.

  6. Get your self a good pair of head phones. Sound plays a critical role in this game as well.

  7. This website is great for fine tuning your mouse.

  8. Try not to hold down the mouse button when trying to kill people (there are exceptions to the rule of course. Extreme CQC, SMG's and shot guns are what come to mind). Accuracy + head shots is what will get you quick kills.

  9. Try to get a "feel" for the recoil of weapons. That way, you'll get a handle of the COF and the recoil pattern.

    Good luck out there.

  • A smartphone
  • A PayPal account
  • A postal scale -- I have this one
  • Half sheet sticker labels for print at home postage
  • Goo Gone is magical for removing sticker residue

Depending on what you commonly sell, bulk buy padded mailers / boxes for that size. Stop tossing any boxes & padding material from shipments you receive. Figure out somewhere to store that to use for your outgoing shipments. A good chunk of the boxes & padding I use is recycled from another shipment I got in.

Definitely getting yourself set up to manage printing postage from home vs. waiting in line at the P.O. should be a big priority overall. There is no way I would enjoy flipping half as much if I had to wait in those lines to mail every item.

u/tkCrown · 3 pointsr/Flipping

Buy a scale. I got mine for $20 on Amazon and it weighs up to 75LB but also can weigh in ounces.

Anything under 13 oz. can ship first class for usually less than $2-4. I use poly mailers and bubble mailers for this purpose.

(I don't know if these are the best choices for your purposes, do some research on what size items you typically sell and buy mailers accordingly. These are what I buy and they fit anything from DVD's, small trinkets, and XXL jackets.)

Buy packing tape, bubble wrap, poly mailers and/or bubble mailers.

Packing tape: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005P7P9M2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Bubble wrap:

Poly mailers:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HGB33U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You print your shipping through eBay/PayPal because they give you a considerably decent discount and then can print straight from whatever printer you may have access to and tape it onto the package. It's acceptable to write it on a piece of paper and tape it, but then you have to wait in line at the post office (with prepaid labels, you can just drop it in the package drop box) and pay for tracking there.

If you're using them in poor conditions: Fisher Space Pen, or a pen that will accept a Fisher refill. I carry this Parker Jotter because it matches my Hero 100 Flighter, equipped with this Fisher refill.

However, just saying you want a ballpoint pen is a pretty big request. Gel, rollerball and ballpoint pens are all... ballpoint pens. Different ones will come with different inks.

Uniball Jetstreams are good, as are Pilot G2s. Personally, though, the Retro 51 Tornado is an absolutely fantastic pen. It's more expensive by a wide margin than the Jotter. It's a much thicker pen, though, so if you have larger hands it's much more comfortable than a Fisher or Parker. And, unlike a lot of pens out there, the refills are both fantastic and affordable.

So. I would say: Get a Jotter and slap a Fisher Space Pen refill in it. Then, if you want to get another nice ballpoint, get yourself a Retro 51 Tornado. Then get a fountain pen. Avoid Zebra. I love my G-301s, but goddamn, those refills are expensive and don't get any mileage at all.

u/plazman30 · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

The two pens I would recommend are both ball points, but you can buy hybrid ink cartridges for them:

  2. Parker Jotter

  4. For the Fisher Space Pen

For what it's worth, I think the LT1917 has become a standard because the original Bullet Journal web page sells them under their brand.

As mentioned here, LT1917 is 80gsm, which is relatively thin and makes a lot of pens bleed through and ghost. For more information about bleeding, ghosting, and general comparison between notebooks I recommend watching Which Notebook is the Best for Bullet Journaling?! (skip to 11:00 to see the comparison chart). I prefer Scribbles That Matter which is thicker (100gsm) and feels smoother to write on. My next purchase will probably be a Midori with 120gsm or a Rhodia to try them out.

One of the core principals of Bullet Journalism is that there are no hard rules. While it comes with some guidelines, you are free to use it however you see fit. Which means that there are no predefined pages. So for the most part you are going to be drawing the layouts. And this is why a Dotted paper helps because you can use the dots to draw your own layouts. You can checkout Pinterest for inspiration. The community uses the term "spreads" to signify two-page layouts used for all sorts of things.

As for pens, many recommend the Sakura Pigma Micron for good reason. While I use them for more "serious" work, when it comes to EDC I would highly recommend the Muji 0.38mm Fine Point Gel Pens. Unlike the Microns, they are not felt tip (which is why I wouldn't use them for EDC) but very sharp ball point pen with great consistency. A lot of people swear by the Pilot G2 0.38mm Ultra Fine Point but personally I wasn't pleased with them.

Finally, regarding the things you want to track, as I mentioned earlier, you can simply define the layouts of each page and track whatever you wish. A lot of the spreads you see from the community are really intricate. You can find a variety of them from very crazy daily layouts to minimal ones. It's all up to you.

Having said that, if drawing your own layouts daily seems like a lot of work (a lot of people actually spend a few hours planning them beforehand), then you might want to consider a more traditional Planner instead. As mentioned ITT, the Nomadic Planner has good paper (125gsm), weekly and monthly pages as well as lined and blanks for notes and the rest.

There is a whole universe of things to consider (and I'm more than happy to geek out about it), but I'd say just start with whatever. Don't think about it too much. Most of the negatives are personal, so while LT1917 doesn't work for some, it might for you. You'll figure things out as you go.

the Safari uses cartridges you can just buy and plug in or get a refillable insert to take advantage of all the cool inks out there. I rarely have to do maintenance on them. they are very nice LOW cost fountain pen. I also like the varieties of nibs available. I would assign a color pen to each nib so i wouldn't have to change the nib and clean the color out.

u/Lgc98 · 2 pointsr/fountainpens

I bought this converter: https://www.amazon.com/Lamy-Z24-Refill-Converter/dp/B001DVXWRI/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1541772915&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=lamy+safari+converter&dpPl=1&dpID=313XPcWjxuL&ref=plSrch

It’s really simple to use, but make sure you thoroughly wash the pen and let it dry before putting new ink. All you do is put the converter in the pen, dip the nib so its submerged in the ink, and twist the converter so thag it sucks up the ink. There’s a bunch of videos on YouTube explaining the process.

u/Ghoster13 · 2 pointsr/TheMightyPen

Please note the Safari doesn't come with a converter so if you don't plan to use cartridges (it comes with one) you will want to add a Lamy Converter to your order.

As for inks, any quality ink will work fine in your pen. Brands often mentioned in [/r/fountainpens ] include Noodler's, Parker, Daimine, Iroshizuku, Parker, and Sheaffer. Noodler's is generally considered one of the best values as its price per ounce is among the lowest. All of these inks should be available on Amazon. GL with your purchase!

That's the one I have. Doesn't hit the price target that well, but given how long this will last compared to a fabric pad, it's worth it IMO.

u/PrionBacon · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I used to have a SteelSeries QcK and never figured out why cloth mousepads are a thing again. It felt marginally better than the cloth mousepads I had in the 90s.

I switched to a SteelSeries 4HD: http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Professional-Gaming-Mouse-Black/dp/B002J9G5AE/

It's hard plastic but it's much more slick than the cloth pad. I like it much more than the cloth one. I use a Logitech g602 mouse.

u/pocketfool · 2 pointsr/hardwareswap

I have a SteelSeries hard mousepad that Id sell for $15 (or $10+ shipping, whatever that'd be). I'm 99% sure it's this 4HD Professional model but I won't be able to give you specifics on the model until I get home (~1.5hr).

I recently bought this off Amazon for 20 bucks. It was suggested by a few members on here. Its can go up to 75lbs. The other day I took a package to the Post office and the lady remarked how exact I was with the weight.

Weighmax 2822-75lb

u/LavernicaDeLuca · 2 pointsr/poshmark

I've had this one for at least 5 years now and it still works flawlessly and it has been 100% accurate for me too. I think I've changed out the battery a grand total of 1 time, I lost the power cable a long time ago so it's been battery only for years.

A little tip for eBay, make sure you weight with packaging. This is mostly relevant for stuff that must ship in a box but make sure you are accounting for the weight that packaging adds, I made that mistake far too often when I started on eBay :)

u/SnowmanOlaf · 2 pointsr/FulfillmentByAmazon

You're right. I'm sorry I came off condescending. I just did research on all local options and you are absolutely correct, the prices are outrageous. Get amazon prime, or a free trial, and you'll receive it in 2 days. I understand since this is your first shipment, you wanna send it out NOW, but just wait til you get the scale. This is the one I own. Works great. You don't need a 330 lb scale. 75 lb is perfect. http://www.amazon.com/Weighmax-2822-75LB-shipping-Battery-Included/dp/B002U4OEDS

There is much more to this, topics like shipping usps, and media mail, or parcel post using insurance is critical and nothing is more important tracking information (and delivery confirmation - if you have a big trade).
I'm hoping others have opinions as well.

Also, I would buy a shipping scale. This is the scale I use

You need to put some weight on the hanging film. I use this to hang my drying films, and this on the end of each individual film.

Each film is different also, some tend to curl more than others, or band in the middle. After my film is totally dry I cut them into manageable strips and then inside a nice heavy book overnight, then on to scanning.....

u/cbiscut · 2 pointsr/Pyrography

I always go for personal stuff. So my Carcassonne set has the roads and monasteries themed after the Super Mario Brothers 3 world maps. The castle pieces didn't play nice with 8bit aesthetics so I kept the wobbly shapes and just filled them in with things we've done together, movies we've seen, dates we've been on, etc so that when a castle is built it's made out of our relationship. Which is WAAAY more symbolic and sweet than I intended it to be originally when I panicked after my Mario Brothers plan went to shit. Bought a little wooden chest with a latch for piece storage and burned the score track onto the top of it.

Catan will probably be similar in nature. I just haven't sourced out the wooden hexes yet or planned out if I'm using actual Catan cards or getting my own printed, etc. She likes Breaking Bad a lot, maybe I'll make an island based around meth production.

One of the things I found helped me with my versatool was using a large binder clip on the edge of my table. If you squeeze the little shiney wing you can take it off of the body, slip it around the cord, then reattach it to the body of the clip so that it acts like a catch for the rheostat.

8 hours!? YOU'RE AN ANIMAL! A MACHINE! If you've got about $10 go pick up a crappy burner from WalMart and try it out. At the very least you'll be able to identify if your versatool is holding you back or if you just have a slow, methodical pace.

Large Binder Clips these are great for attaching things to your shade tent.

u/SiLhoueT_Te · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

I see you have 4" ducting but trust me you're definitely going to want to have this, thankfully 6" ducting isn't to expensive. Also buy these, so much easier than duct tape and these for managing the ducting. This and this too for supporting the inline fan and filter, the inline fan at full power will vibrate very slightly and I feel that the bungee cords help minimize vibration. I usually use zip ties for managing cords but also as a precautionary measure, I have a few loosely secured zip ties on my inline fans just in case a bungee cord were to become unsecured which that has never happened thankfully but you can never be to safe.

I've used this one

and this one

Personally I like the first one better. The bigger base is very nice. edit: you need to consider the size of the packages you're weighing. I need a scale that will measure heavy packages, the first one is better for that sort of thing. For general purpose ebay selling I'd get a scale that measures up to say 50lb, that should be good enough. Or maybe 2 scales, one for small stuff and one like the 2 I listed for heavy packages.

u/w1ngzer0 · 2 pointsr/Flipping
  1. Get a shipping scale. This will allow you to accurately weigh your item and print shipping labels via eBay. Accutek 8580
  2. Anything that's under 15.999 oz packed goes first class. You'll get a discount and pay $4.something vs full costs to them if calculated, or pricing higher to offer free shipping. This 15.999 oz weight is weight only TMK. I've sent snapbacks in 8^3 boxes and only paid first class because the weight was under 15.999 oz.
  3. Since you're doing clothing, order padded flat rate mailers from USPS. $6.50 your cost.
  4. Use the following fitshipper calculator to figure out best methods of shipping to each zone: http://www.flippertools.com/fitShipperListing/
  5. For anything that doesn't fit in a PFRE and you want to offer priority, learn cubic priority and cubic softpack. Put it this way, 8x8x8 box can go to zone 8 for under $11, priority.
  6. Read the other resources on fitshipper's site. There's a calculator for how much to shave a box down to go down a tier for cubic priority, etc.

Definitely weigh them. I debated this for a while, but since I got this scale, everything has been smooth sailing in the keg filling department. I fill 3 at a time from a 1/2 bbl fermenter. For $25 you can’t beat it. Up to 110 lbs, battery or a/c plug. The display is separate and plugs in so the scale can be on the floor (even with an additional platform on it or whatever) but the display can be up on a table where you can see it easily. It doesn’t lock in on a weight after a few seconds like bathroom scales do, so you can just watch as the keg fills and close the valve when it’s done.

That is the most basic way to do it, but I've learned that paying for paying for shipping online is probably the most efficient way to do it. Plus they usually give a discounted rate for paying online. All you need is a printer and a postal scale (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SMHWZ42/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_JuB3wb2YR63SY). You can even get shipping labels (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001PF1BSE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_2uB3wbG6X4SXA) if you wanted to take your packaging a step higher. (Totally worth it imo)

Go to stamps.com or usps.com. Enter your package weight and dimensions. Purchase and print the label. Stick the label on the package and drop it off at a post office. Writing the address on the package isn't hard but I was taking at least a minute or more for each package and now and can get way more packages done in way less time. And don't have to wait in line at the post office anymore.

u/bugmochi · 2 pointsr/Flipping

I've been doing this only for a few weeks. I bought this scale: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SMHWZ42?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00 Yes, you can use any printer. I bought these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ANLD1M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00 but you can get cheaper ones that aren't Avery. I typically ship via USPS. If you're shipping through eBay it should show you the cost difference. USPS is most often cheaper unless you have a large or heavy item.

u/iamnewtopcgaming · 2 pointsr/FortniteCompetitive

I switched from console for better framerate since I didn't care about "next-gen" 4k graphics at 30fps. I quit controller cold turkey and never looked back. Unfortunately, there is a high barrier to entry so I like to help people switch and have a good experience instead of pure frustration and end up reverting back to using a controller.

  1. After you've decided on your keybinds, watch a video on build techniques and practice the ones you want a few times each day. Then there are discords that host FFA game modes in creative to practice fighting others without having to queue, loot and farm, die, repeat. I actually think the latest storm wars maps are close to realistic and more fun than Champs arena games, so it's the only thing I've played outside of WC competitions lately. Kovaak's is a popular "game" on steam used to train your aim specifically.

  2. I think you're right, blindly copying 1 person is not be the best strategy. But, changing muscle memory is hard and pyramid is considered one of the best builds in the current meta imo, so you should try to get used to using all 4 or it might become harder later. I use Q(wall), E(ramp), C(floor), V(roof) for my builds using my thumb C and V (this was hard to get used to but worth it imo). Consider turning on sprint by default and using left shit for edit. CTRL is crouch and R is reload in every single game I play. I also recommend getting a big mouse pad and setting your sensitivity low if you want to get truly good aim.

This keybinding philosophy guide is pretty decent at describing the reasoning behind choosing certain keybinds over others.

I also highly recommend using these scroll wheel keybinds many of which could definitely be considered unfair advantage.

  3. This is a good segue into my final piece of advice. Unfortunately if you haven't noticed, Epic Games does not seem to care what happens to the "competitive" scene of Fortnite and they definitely don't care about optimizing the game for PC... So I doubt any of those features are coming anytime soon. I recommend also getting into another game like CSGO, Apex Legends, or Halo on PC when it launches to help practice general mnk mechanics as well. Public Fortnite matches will likely just frustrate you until you've built up some muscle memory (estimated 2-4 weeks to get back to your level on controller if you practice daily).

Feel free to dm me if you have more questions.

Hey,

I've tried the Hayate Otsu, and I can't recommend it. It may be an isolated issue, but when I tried it out for a week, it had a critical problem with static electricity. Yeah, I do mean that.. it is strange to describe as I've never expected this to be a problem either.
Whenever mice had contact with it and after moving the mouse on it for a minute, the friction built up tons of charge which shocked everything I touched, including my headphones. This was so bad I had to get rid of it. Otherwise, the size was too small. I did like their package where they ship it flat without bending it. In my opinion it was definitely not worth the price premium and hassle of finding it.

I now currently own the Zowie G-SR, which seems just about as perfect as I would want a mouse pad to be. Everything from the thickness, rubber pads, even surface, edge finishes, and no annoying giant logo.

My favorite before this mousepad was the Steelseries Qck Heavy, but this Zowie one just beats it out by perfecting it.

1.) Something that is blue. - I mean, it's literally blue.

2.) Something that says summer. - What says summer better than SURFING!?

3.) Something food related that is unusual. - It's a Kit Kat. But it's GREEN TEA flavored!

4.) Something you want to gift to someone else, and tell me why. - I've been trying to get /u/quickwittedslowpoke to buy this manga because it's awesome, but she hasn't yet. I really want her to read it!

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it! - Shameless shilling. My friend wrote this book and I want him to become famous! :D

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! - I don't really have a great reason for this, it was just on my mind because I had considered getting it as a gag gift for my uncle's birthday since his lucky number is 113 and that Pokemon is #113, but I didn't end up doing it since it wouldn't have arrived by his birthday (which already passed).

7.) Something related to dogs. - I have no idea what GSD is, sorry D:

8.) Something that is not useful, but so awesome you must have it. - It's literally just a statue. It doesn't do anything but look cute. But she's one of my favorite characters :D

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? - This is one of the best Anime films of all time. Even if you're not into anime, I still highly recommend it. It has won COUNTLESS awards already. It's a pretty big deal in the anime community. It's got a great plot and it's so sad that if you don't cry, you have no soul.

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain. - Zombies can't swim. Foolproof plan. They'll eventually decay in the sun and all die within a few days, and you'll be out on your cool ass boat, safe from the chaos.

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. - I know it seems a little silly, but I'm trying to learn to cook better, and I just don't really have very good cooking tools...

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. - Fun fact: I obsessively clean my ears. :I

13.) Something fandom related. - It's three fandoms in one! Super Smash Bros, Nintendo and Final Fantasy! :D

14.) Something ridiculously priced, more than $10,000. They exist, y’all. - Because it's eleven times what you asked :)

15.) Something with sharks or unicorns. - It was actually pretty decent.

16.) Something that smells wonderful. - At least I think it does. Needs lots of sugar though lol

17.) A toy that you wanted or had when you were a child that was the best ever, or (if it’s not on amazon) a toy that you think is pretty cool now - Does this count? I had the original back in the 80s/90s, and this is a new model with packed in games. But yeah, this shit was my childhood!

18.) Something that would be helpful for writers. - I mean, really, what're you gonna do with unsharpened pencils?

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be. - The Precure anime franchise is one of my guilty pleasures, and this character, Cure Peace, is my favorite character in the series! :D

Also assuming you want a stand that can have them side-by-side because I've never seen curveds on top of eachother.

Seems pretty hard to find a mount/stand for 3x 31.5" or higher in a side-by-side atleast. You could also get 3x 1 arm stand or 1x 2 arm and 1x 1arm, but that gets messy.

I recommend looking on Amazon.com at brands like Vivo, Mount-It, and AmazonBasics for good mounts for reasonable prices.

If a single triple monitor mount is not enough to properly fit all of the monitors you could get 3 singles. Make sure all of your screens have VESA mounting holes. If they have different VESA mount sizes you can get size adaptors.

Triple monitor mount 1: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BDT072S/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_VD5OCbJX1ZC75

Single monitor mount (X3): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B21TLQU/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_xE5OCbW8QX4H4

Once you go VESA mounted you never go back, so worth it man. I have my TV mounted on a VESA arm for playing Halo/Xbox, and my work desk has double monitor setup is VESA mounted too and it's worth the cleaness and space saving.

It's nothing particularly fancy. Some nib (hard to tell because it's covered in ink but one possibility is a Zebra G Nib) and an oblique pen holder (his looks something like this but there are cheaper ones).

> try to get something like an Accutek acb440. It's got a huge capacity

who needs a 440lb capacity for flipping? The problem with some of these scales with really large capacity is they don't perform as well at the bottom of the range. Here's an amazon review:

"Scale does not register weights under 4oz. Still increments properly after that, just no good for very light objects."

>Just jump in and get a scale that will last forever. I got lucky with my scale, it's a Mettler-Toledo PS-60...$44 at my local thrift store where I found mine

sure, if you find that scale for $50, you should buy it. but if you need a scale now, get the ~70 lb accutek w/ the remote screen for $25-35.

Check out /r/flipping. Many of us use small scales like this one to determine the weight. In your case, you then enter the weight and address into the Canada Post shipping calculator and it spits out a rate.

If you're selling on ebay, they automatically calculate shipping for you, making it even easier.

Boxes and other shipping supplies can be had for free from most retail stores. If you ask nicely, many places will simply give you their extra boxes at the end of the day. With a little ingenuity, you can make a hell of a lot of money. I've made $800 in 3 months and I don't thrift half as much as you do.

PM me if you'd like some more info.

I'd say re-stocking with items.

Boxes: If you live in a building, use the ones people throw away that you can find in the basement or go around your neighborhood and get some from the curb. I also like to reuse Amazon mailers.

Label printer: At an entry level, it's probably most cost effective to use the printer you already have or to buy a cheap laser printer like a Brother HL-L2300D that you can use to also print other stuff.

Scale: You can buy one for Amazon for ~$20-30, so I'd definitely say buy one if you don't already have one, as buying USPS (especially) labels of the correct weight via ebay/PayPal is cheaper than paying retail at the post office.

u/w8liftah · 1 pointr/weightlifting

Something like a lower capacity mailing scale may have decent enough accuracy to show a better idea of the real weights, although the cheaper ones may not be super accurate themselves. This one has a sensitivity of around 3 grams for lighter weights, and 6 grams for heavier weights with a max weight of around 23kg (50#). But I still wouldn't trust that to be super accurate unless you also have calibrated weights to check the accuracy first.

u/Kairiot · 1 pointr/Flipping

Use a scale here is the one I have, I like it and eBay's shipping calculator to get a good idea of the shipping cost. Unless if the item is very heavy, priority flat-rate is generally more expensive than a non-flat-rate box. I'd just do media mail for a dvd set through, you aren't amazon and buyers generally don't mind the "delay" of the media mail.

u/tielknight · 1 pointr/Ebay

Something like this Accuteck will do fine for most sellers until you get into shipping big & heavy stuff, otherwise it's all about getting your own packaging as you will get gouged at the post office(or wherever you're shipping from) if you don't use something like their Flat-Rate packaging(that's free).

Ebay is very a good source for packaging though you do want a general idea of what kind of packaging you need.

Not sure if they're even available anymore. The new ones have a stitched border so even though they are 48x40cm, you can't use the full size because that border stops your mouse. It's more like 43x35.

Also, it's expensive as fuck. $38 on Amazon.com and £50 on amazon.co.uk (LOL wat).

u/One1six · 1 pointr/buildapc

The answer to this will not be the same for everyone. Ergonomics of each mouse will feel different for each person due to differing hand sizes, grip, etc. Personally I used to favor big mice with lots of buttons for RPGs and Mobas… such as a Naga and then a Logitech G502. But then I started getting into FPS games and wound up wanting something lighter/smaller and never looked back (currently use a Logitech G-Pro). I still use this for RPGs just fine.. the two buttons on the side plus mousewheel button are more than sufficient for me as those 3 buttons alone can account for 12 binds when you consider ctrl, shift, and alt modifiers should you choose to use them... then you have scroll up/down and modifiers for those as well, to me anything more than that is overkill since you can realistically fit all binds on a keyboard anyhow.

Edit for mousepads I prefer large ones, the one I've bought twice now has been this one,

Seems like a lot of weight for one anchor point.

u/cphcider · 1 pointr/battlestations

Those monitors don't look identical, but you MAY be able to flip all 3 vertical and create a DIY ultrawide situation. That would give you more horizontal desk space so the TV isn't so crowded.

This one has arms you can adjust, but only horizontally (and tilt), you couldn't change any heights.

Same story with this one, but arguably easier to ensure things are more aligned. (This is what I use for 2 monitors that aren't identical and it works well enough.)

This one would let you play with heights, but is 2x the price of the others for that reason.

This was me playing with the idea of 2 horizontal and 1 vertical.

It is heavy dudy. I once had an old heavy 22" acer, the ones with the built in psu, and and it was able to hold it. It has adjustment for the weight of your monitor and cable management shrouds. The usb port is crap though I cut mine off.

My bad, I totally thought I linked it. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236051 The only thing I can see are two..... holy shit they have VESA screw holes. Couldn't see them because they were filled with a rubber stopper. Oh man -.-

So they are 13' tall. Looks like around 11' tilted maybe 25-30 degrees. I'm kind of worried about the main monitor being too high ( I adjusted it up to about 9' off the table and my eyeline is right below the center of the monitor with my chair raised up.)

I been fooling around with different orientations and I think I'll just do two vertical monitors on each side instead. At about 8' up and the two monitors to the side it makes a flush, door-frame shaped п orientation. Which mount would you recommend for that? I would get a slightly bigger piece for stability. Stick it to the bottom of the desk with poster putty

u/vabann · 1 pointr/multicopterbuilds

Poster Putty great when you have delicate items to solder, holds stuff in place without having to mess with grippers and clips.

Gorilla Clear Tape I use it to keep my RX in place and under all my ESCs in combination with zip ties. Some of the stickiest stuff I've found yet and I run a sign shop so I deal with adhesives all the time.

u/gotreef · 1 pointr/DIY

This seems needless complex.

Why not skip the thumbtacks? You can just as easily trim the tape around the magnet and apply it directly to the measured points on the wall.

Or better yet, poster putty or something similar. It's cheaper, faster, and from my experience, non-damaging.

u/MadtownMaven · 1 pointr/AskWomen

Yep. Although this was covering up the walls of my cube that are made for push pins. I'd think for real walls you could get that poster putty stuff so that it won't hurt the walls or anything.

u/freakingwilly · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I'm not sure how far you're willing to go, but one of my favorite solutions is poster putty. It seems silly, but this stuff sticks to just about anything. I used it to mount my sensor bar on top of my LCD TV. The best part is that if I don't like/want it anymore, it comes off cleanly.

u/lexpython · 1 pointr/howto
u/hobosox · 1 pointr/minipainting

Not super cheap but this will do the trick. You can also use poster tack (YMV with different brands). Maybe spray a coat of matte varnish on before applying tape/putty just to be safe.

Masking fluid could work too, but it has some caveats. You need to paint it on pretty thick, and don't let it sit for too long or it will be hard to get it all off. Its better for paint chips and small things, I don't recommend it for hoards of tyranids.

Masking is one of the drawbacks of airbrushing. You might be better off using a brush for the red, then carefully airbrushing highlights with just some quick masking. Then go back and touch up the blue with a brush if needed.

Last semester, I went fully digital when taking notes for my classes using my SP4. It's not an outright "better" experience - I would rather say that it's just "different" when compared to taking notes with pen and paper.

Good things:

  • never losing notes again (+sync to OneDrive, viewable from any internet-connected computer)
  • ability to record audio and synchronize playback to whatever you were writing at the time
  • being able to easily export notes/homework to PDFs to campus printers or send to others (this made me very popular with people who cut class)
  • ability to mark up electronic versions of textbooks with Drawboard PDF (if you can find electronic versions of them)
  • insert images/graphs from things like Mathematica directly onto the page, in color

    Bad things:

  • extremely poor battery life (~3-5 hours) under very light loads (I carry an external battery pack and my MacBook Air to compensate)
  • pen felt awkward for the first few weeks (missing "tactility" and resistance of pen on paper)
  • OneNote 2016 would randomly derp/crash for no reason at critical moments
  • "infinite paper" "feature" of OneNote 2016 is terrible especially when you go to print (things will get chopped off or duplicated). I created a "college ruled 8.5x11" template to get around that (creating a new page whenever needed).
  • it doesn't like my messy handwriting even after training it, so no handwriting --> searchable text for me
  • it really doesn't like complex, upper-level math for some reason (this happened to both me and my math instructor who used a SP2 last semester)

For reference, before the SP4, I used to take notes with paper and 0.38mm Pilot G2 pens from high school up until now, which is a pretty good chunk of time. I don't see myself going back to pen and paper unless absolutely required.

Chairs that cost $1000+ are not out of the norm at all.

Think of it this way: if you are a working professional in a white collar job, and you have to spend 6+ hours a day sitting, it makes a lot of sense to buy a chair that you are comfortable in. People pay ten times as much for things they use ten times less (e.g. cars).

It's a principle that I apply to much of what I own. As a student, I use just a couple of things really often:

  1. Keyboard
  2. Pen
  3. Notebook
  4. Backpack

For each of those I have spent a significant amount of time and money figuring out what makes the best tool for me. Because they are the tools I use the most, they had better be of good quality. They are, in order:

  5. DAS Professional Model S
  6. Pilot G2/Uniball Stick Fine Point
  7. Moleskine Ruled Notebook A4
  8. Timbuk2 Q Backpack

All of those are more expensive, but they make working and doing what I do a joy. If they are going to be my tools, then they are going to be good.

Also, I'm really sorry if that came off as highly pretentious. I realize now that my not have come across the nicest. Oh well, I've typed it out, I can't back out now!

You’re very welcome! I’m going to try to answer the first question the best I can, but it’s a bit out of my area of expertise. From my experience, if your pen is skipping with writing, the two things that I can think of is that the cartridge may not be inserted all the way or the nib is not alined correctly. The first one is an easy fix, as you just press on the cartridge a bit and make sure it’s snapped all the way in, but the second one is a bit more difficult to deal with. It requires more knowledge of how the pen works, etc. The easiest way to tell is if you look hold the pen at a 45 degree angle, nib facing towards you and the metallic/writing side facing down. Look to see if there is anything that is even the slightest bit out of line. If something is out of place, that could be the problem. The easiest way to fix it is to contact customer support from the pen company. There are other ways to try to realign them, but that goes way over my head at the moment. I’m trying to figure it out, but it takes some practice.

Now for an area I’ m a bit more familiar with. As for another pen after these, here’s the subreddit’s Holy Trinity of Starter Pen Recommendations:

You have the Pilot Metropolitan which runs around $15. It comes in a medium or fine nib and the pen body is made from metal. You can get them in a plain silver, black or gold or they have a retro pop collection with more “wild” colors. It comes with a black cartridge and a rubber converter if you want to fill it using ink from a bottle.

Then there’s the Lamy Safari. This one retails at about $37 but from a quick search on amazon, you can get it for around $20. This one’s made of plastic and comes with a cartridge. If you like the Safari but want one that’s made of metal, look into the Lamy Al-Star. It’s usually $10 more, but I found this one for the exact same price on amazon as the other Safaris. If you want to use ink bottles with either of these pens, you’ll either have to refill the cartridge or buy a converter. The converter is much easier to fill from a bottle with but reduces your ink capacity a little bit. Safaris come in a lot of different colors and special edition colors and nibs range from EF to B.

Finally, there’s the TWSBI ECO. This is right around the $30 mark. Instead of taking cartridges, the pen has what is called a piston filler. You hold the pen nib deep in a bottle of ink and turn the end of the pen and it fills for you. It has a large ink capacity because of this. This type of pen is also called a demonstrator because it has a clear body that you can see the ink move around in. It’s very cool. Another thing people love the TWSBI For is that you can take the entire thing apart and easily clean/replace parts. TWSBI nibs are pretty good too, and they come anywhere from EF to B and also carry a 1.1 stub, which is something similar to the flat calligraphy nibs on the speedball there. TWSBI also makes the TWSBI GO and I’ve heard great things about it but I have not personally used it, so I can’t say much about the differences between the go and the Eco. I think it’s mainly the filling mechanism (twisting the end of the pen on the ECO vs a spring loaded press of the button on the GO.)

Out of these three, I’d recommend the TWSBI ECO because the piston filling mechanism is really cool, you don’t have to worry about a converter, the nib is great, and I love the look of the pen. (However, I might be slightly biased as this was my first pen, lol.) I got a Safari recently and absolutely love the way it writes. It’s a fun, functional pen. I’ve used the Metro before and it’s a great pen when used with cartridges but I haven’t had good luck with the converter, sadly. When choosing a nib size, I’d recommend a F or M. I started with an EF pen and now almost all my pens are M nib. The broader the nib size, the smoother it writes as it lays more ink down when writing. The finer nibs (EF and F) have a bit more feedback but work better with smaller handwriting. I’d start somewhere in the middle depending on which experience you think you’ll like (F if you have smaller handwriting, M if you write larger and want it to be smoother). If you like the stub/flat nibs, don’t be afraid to get it in a 1.1 nib.

Now, here’s a few other recommendations outside the main three that come to mind when asking for a starter pen/are newer to FPs and want something else to try.

The Platinum Preppy runs anywhere under $10 and has a really good nib and in many different colors.

The Moonman M2 is a great eye dropper fill pen and has a really sleek design. It runs anywhere from $12-$20z The one I had before I lost it (oops) was a great writer and I really loved it. However, be warned that the QC isn’t the best with the nibs so you can get a good one or a not so god one. They also have a newer model, called the C1 which is really cool. I have this one and I really like it, but, again, you might get a bad nib. They also only come in one nib size (I think) so you can’t really choose what size you’d want sadly.

My last recommendation for you is a different type of Fountain Pen: the Pilot Parallel Pen. These are for calligraphy and you can get some really cool effects from them. They come with a little lettering/info book too so you can learn some basic styles with the pens. They come in 4 different nib sizes, and each pen costs around $10, but I attached amazon’s set of the 4 pens which you can get for $24 instead of around $40. These aren’t conventional FP’s, but are awesome if you really like calligraphy.

I hope I didn’t overwhelm you with this! Happy writing and happy pen browsing!

Any will work! Right now I'm using a Lamy Safari pen. You can buy green ink cartridges or you can get converters to refill with any ink you'd wish. Lamy sells their own green ink but there are plenty of other options on amazon.

ALTERNATIVELY: I find that the converters don't hold enough ink, so once I've used up the default cartridge that comes with the pen, I wash it out and refill ink myself with a narrow-nosed syringe. Any kind will work as long as the tip is smaller than the opening of the ink cartridge opening, though you may spill some ink on your hands. I use this because no pokey-bleedy.

just remembered UK... so:
Lamy safari - amazon UK

Green ink (Waterman, not Lamy, works fine)

Happy hunting!

u/X207Blitz · 1 pointr/mechanical_gifs

Starter: Lamy Safari with some cartridges.

I have this pen at work and use cartridges rather than a converter to save time and prevent potential catastrophes of filling them. If you like the fountain pen in the GIF, TWSBI Vac 700, should be a great second starter or you can get a converter; just know you'll need bottled ink.

My favorite ink right now is Pilot Iroshizuku, lines are clean for most of my foutain pens, it dries decently fast and is easy to clean out of the pen aswell.

what is the difference between the Z24 and the Z26. when i look on amazon it looks like both will fit in my Lamy Studio, the Z26 looks more similar to the cartridges that i have in terms of shape....but they still look mostly the same. (also the amazon picture shows the z26 inside a studio)

Pilot V5 Extra Fine

When they came out with the Retractable version of this bad boy it was like Christmas. I also found another cap version while I was in Greece last Spring that had a gray body and a super fine point...Love this pen so much. I also use Microns a lot, although I'm not sure why.

u/Harley1986 · 1 pointr/EDC

Thanks! Honestly, the pen I write with the most is the Pilot Precise V5 RT. It's been my favorite writing tool so far but the grip, while comfortable, tends to hang up in the inside of my pockets. The Jotter is my go-to pen for portability.

u/GaryTheSuperSnail · 1 pointr/Handwriting

Pilot G2 is always a good pen. I also like the pilot precise V5. It is a roller ball pen, so it feels a little smoother than other ball point pens. I use fountain pens. Pilot Metropolitan or Lamy Safari is a great place to start out, but if you want to spend even less money the Platinum Preppy is a popular starter pen. In the long run a bottle of ink will be cheaper than a ton of disposable pens.

u/hotheadnchickn · 1 pointr/rheumatoid

I use pilot v-5 roller ball click top pens (ink flows easily - no need to press), and i put foam around them so the grip is very thick. the click-top/ retractable feature is important, because it means you can put the foam low on the pen, which you can't do with a capped pen.

I’ve never done it, but I see these little carrier things that look like they hold about 10 floppies. They look like giant wallets or something that would hold a car manual.

u/Scorpion13992k · 1 pointr/comicbooks

I usually only collect trades but there are some that have never been collected so I use these BCW Stor-Folio boxes to keep them on a bookshelf. I like to make my own artwork for the front and spine.

u/JustABitEvil · 1 pointr/comicbookcollecting

Definitely bag and board your books, I use a basic binder that zips shut though these were recently recommended to me. On books that you want signed a trick I've picked up is to bag and board it but cut a hole in the front of the bag marked with colored tape, that way it's signed where you want it.

As to who charges for autographs, this tends to vary. In my experience big names (Sterenko, Lee, Claremont etc.) charge anywhere from $10 to $100 where lots of others don't charge at all or ask for donations to charities they support. Roy Thomas signed several of my books for $10 at a conference I went to back in March.

As to grading, I personally do not slab my books because I still love to read them, even my old silver age stuff, though I am considering getting my Stan Lee signed books graded. I would talk to a rep at the convention about the cost and turnaround time.

u/Horoto · 1 pointr/comicbooks

Yep, just found the link here. Not a bad deal at all! I'll probably pick a few of these up just for when I go to comic shops and pick up some floppies.

u/rickdod3 · 1 pointr/comicbookcollecting

I would suggest buying a stor-folio. They are PERFECT for carrying books at conventions. Here is a link

Also, be aware of the market on certain books. eBay is your friend. Use it to your advantage when dealing with dealers. If they have a book priced at $400 and you can buy one in the same condition on eBay for $250, bring that to their attention. Conventions always have inflated prices.

I should've asked this question years ago, but I'm just wondering if there's any reason for this:

I have a CM Storm Sentinel Advance II laser sensor mouse that just could not function/track on any neoprene/cloth mousepad. I had a neoprene pad that covered the length of the keyboard + mouse, but I had to switch to a SteelSeries 4HD Gaming Pad that is a hard plastic composition for the mouse to work. I've been using that plastic pad since then but I would like to switch back to a large neoprene pad since it's summer and hand/forearm sweat makes it hard to move the mouse around on a plastic pad.

My research says that laser sensors should work on any surface but my mouse didn't work until I switched to my current pad. Is my mouse defective? I'd like to switch pads without switching my mouse, but will ultimately make that change if I have to.

u/preventDefault · 1 pointr/insurgency

I googled what you mean and I do have the "Enhance pointer precision" box checked in Windows 7's Mouse settings. In the game itself, Raw Input is set to true in the settings.

As for my surface I use a SteelSeries 4HD Professional Gaming Mouse Pad. I used to have a Razer cloth pad but in the humid months it would get sticky and my mouse wouldn't move across it as well so I went to plastic and it glides really easy.

Sometimes it fucks me when I'm going for a really precise headshot for someone behind cover but most of the time it lets me whip around and hit people while hipfiring so it seems to work for me.

I do have my dpi/sensitivity set fairly high. I like to be able to move around with minimal physical movement as lazy as that sounds.

What type of box to put it in: If you sell a xbox 360 game, a padded bubble mailer will work just fine. Your ultimate goal is to limit the weight, while still securing the package. Shipping prices are based on weight/dimensions. If youre shipping something larger like a blender, then you would find a box big enough to fit it, while also allowing room for padding.

I stay away from mailing large things because its a pain in the ass to find a box big enough, and then after padding, shipping is like $30. All depends what your ROI is.

Why would you want to ban these

u/nomnommish · 1 pointr/IndianFood

Thing is, your bulk container will invariably be smaller than the bag the lentils or rice or beans came in. So now you end up with beans in 3 containers, a small one, a bulk one, and original packaging.

Instead secure the original packaging using large binder clips like this one

> Do you sketch on the front and back or just one side?

Both sides. I sketch a lot with blue ColErase pencils, which aren't as smudgy as graphite, or in ink or gouache, which won't rub off onto the facing page. Usually I'm not too fussy about my sketchbook stuff but if I've got something I really don't want to get too fucked up, I'll tack a piece of tracing paper onto the page.

> Do you do multiple sketches on a page or just one per page?

Loads. An empty bit of space on a sketchbook page is a place to practice drawing, like, a hand or something like that. It's there to be drawn in.

> Do you have multiple sketchbooks going at once?

Yep. Different sizes; a big one that I keep handy in my studio space, a smaller one for carrying around, one with gray paper, one with tan paper, and a kraft paper scrapbook for doing gouache sketches in so I'll stop wrinkling up my regular sketchbook. (But that one I only use one side of each page, because it would get wrinkly otherwise. The paper's heavy but it's not that heavy.)

On a side note, I always keep one of these Field Notes notebooks handy for writing things down, separate from my sketchbook. Artists I want to look up, notes from a book I'm reading or video I'm watching, color palettes I want to try out, whatever. If it's art related and important enough I want to remember it, I write it down. I've tried using my sketchbook for this in the past, but I've just found it easier to keep the two things separate.

It uses a Zebra G dip nib which is flexible. Unlike fountain pen nibs, dip nibs are semi-disposable and will eventually corrode or wear out. On the other hand, dip nibs are much cheaper to replace. I believe you can get a pack of 10 Zebra G nibs for $10ish.

u/SkippyLeDoo · 1 pointr/fountainpens

Zebra makes the nib in both stainless and titanium. The ones I use are titanium and have that cool brass-gold coating.

With the stainless steel nibs, I wouldn't worry too much about rust. Stainless steels don't oxidize as well as carbon steels, and the nibs have a chrome coating to further protect them.

I'd only worry about rust if you're doing a mod that involves grinding (like my TWSBI mod, for instance, which can be protected against with a coating of grease along the ground surface on top where the thickness is ground away).

I got the nibs from Amazon [here], but you can also get the stainless ones [here], which are one third the price.

I've had my Nexus 7 for just a couple of days now and think it is great. For the price point, it utterly trounces the Kindle Fire (which is getting passed down to my niece shortly). The screen is lovely, the UI is far more polished, and I'm generally enjoying using it quite a bit more. I suspect it'll get a bit better, too, as it is Google's flagship tablet right now.

I don't see any link to the pen you're unhappy with.

Yes, the Jinhao X750 will take Noodler's nibs. But the Noodler's nibs aren't really flex nibs, and I personally don't like them.

I would put Zebra G nibs on the Jinhao instead:

So I'm just starting out - like haven't started yet. I'm going to try and sell some of my old stuff first to see how this goes. I'll be moving accross the country in the next year, so this coincides with me wanting to get rid of things so I don't have to pay to move it. If I like it though, I'll buy more stuff to sell when I get to my new location. However, the logistics of packing and shipping is really confusing.

Here are my questions:

  1. Is Amazon strictly for high frequency sellers, or could people like me, who are just trying to sell off old stuff - also use the platform? Not many things I'm selling will have original boxes etc. As of right now, I'm leaning more towards eBay and Craigslist. However, I'm not near a big city right now so I'm not too confident in Craigslist.

  2. What type of package scale do I buy? The things I'll be buying range in sizes. I've seen people link little scales like this. I'm not concerned about how much weight it can measure, more that it's too small to efficiently weigh bulkier packages and items. For instance, I have some bulky coats that I plan to sell. I can't imagine that little scale will be able to weigh that.

  3. Is it better to explicitly charge shipping or to increase the price of the item and sell it with "free shipping?"

  4. The logistics of how much to charge for shipping (or account for shipping in your price) is completely lost on me. Like, I'm supposed to weigh the item fully packed - but if someone orders more than one thing, I'd have to re-calculate weight or re-pack it entirely. Also, with shipping services like First Class, they charge more depending on how far it's going. So how am I suppose to list a price if it completely depends on who buys it? Similarly, it might make sense to ship it priority mail flat rate. So like, am I supposed to just throw out that perfectly good packaging material every time I decide to use a flat rate envelope/box instead?

  5. Which packaging material am I suppose to buy? I have zero experience shipping anything that isn't a prepaid return item in its original box. No idea which boxes will fit which things. I've heard to use poly-mailers for non-bulky clothing. And to use cushioned-envelope mailers for small things. But which sizes? Is it better to buy an assortment of different things and just hope I have things that use them all - or to just go big and pay for the extra postage?

  6. Is it better to pay for postage online or to do in the post-office? Should I do it through ebay (ebay seller portal) What happens if I unintentionally underestimate how much it weighs when buying postage online? Is it returned to me? Do I get billed? Is the customer billed?

  7. Which shipping options should I always include? When should I require a signature? Should I always get a tracking number?

  8. I don't understand how many ebay sellers are able to turn a profit for things. For example, I see many people selling things on ebay for less than a $1 with free shipping. Wouldn't the cost to ship that item cost more than that though?

  9. I have an ebay account that uses my real name. I've never sold anything on it - I just use it to buy things. It's about 9 years old. Should I create a new account if I plan to sell things? I notice that most sellers have a name for their ebay business
